- 0:06Hello. What's your least favorite scary
- 0:08movie? If they do something in a
- 0:13Freddie Prince junior movie, we shouldn't do it in real life.
- 0:17Absolutely. Well, they don't.
- 0:18Watch Your least favorite Scary Movie, The podcast where we talk
- 0:20about the good, the bad, the ugly, and the absurd in all of
- 0:24our favorite. And least favorite?
- 0:25Scary movies. Because we believe every horror
- 0:27movie rightfully has its fanbase.
- 0:28Even if we don't always get it. My name's Travis, my name's
- 0:31Jesse, and welcome back to promo Woo woo.
- 0:34So today we are doing our Patreon voted episode.
- 0:38We are covering Kerry 2002 by way of announcements.
- 0:44We have to be or not to be this weekend.
- 0:48Yeah, it's coming up this weekend, so.
- 0:50Be able to. Look after that my pick.
- 0:53Gotta see where I can find prom wise on to be.
- 0:56We've already got one saved on the list.
- 0:59We we kept it there. Remember?
- 1:00Like we're going to save this for to be prom month.
- 1:02It better still be. There, yeah.
- 1:05I I don't think that one's going anywhere, OK.
- 1:07It's one of those movies that lives there.
- 1:10All right, so other than that, hopefully we've done our
- 1:14announcement for next week's episode.
- 1:16And if we haven't, then I guess you're just going to find out
- 1:19the franchise next week. Yeah, and you'll.
- 1:22Just see then. But it also means we'll have a
- 1:24wrap up coming up soon of our Final Destination franchise, so
- 1:28be on lookout for that. Time set on the schedule.
- 1:30Yeah, that'll probably be to be weekend, right.
- 1:32So this weekend, yeah, be on lookout for that.
- 1:34That'll. Be that all right?
- 1:36Anything from you? I don't have anything.
- 1:38OK, well then let's get into Carrie 2002.
- 1:43Carrie released or premiered, whichever you prefer to say, on
- 1:48November 4th, 2002. As of May 16th, you can watch it
- 1:53on YouTube, Pluto, TVMGM plus Vicks.
- 1:57Not Vaporub. That's via, Oh yeah, Fubo TV,
- 2:01Sling TV, Prime, YouTube TV, Philo.
- 2:05All of those subscriptions require an add on because this
- 2:08is an MGM movie. So basically you need The MGM
- 2:10plus add on. You can also rent it from
- 2:12Fandango at home, Apple TV or Google TV.
- 2:15We watched it on Tubi Tubi. And that's not even showing up
- 2:19on this list. Wow, cool Internet.
- 2:23OK Written by Bryan Fuller, Based on the novel by Stephen
- 2:26King, directed by David Carson, Music by Laura Cartman, special
- 2:31effects makeup by Rachel Griffin.
- 2:33Starring Angela Bettis as Carrietta.
- 2:36Carrie White Patricia Clarkson is Margaret White.
- 2:39Rena Sofer is Miss Desjardins. Candace McClure is Sue Snell.
- 2:43Emily de Raven is Chris Hargenson.
- 2:45Tobias Miller is Tommy Ross. Travis.
- 2:49Time for our favorite game on the show budget.
- 2:51Or Bud, I say bugdad. Yeah, I don't have any
- 2:57information for it 'cause it was made for TV movie.
- 3:00Yeah, that's the tell for me. But also just look at this
- 3:03thing. And I, I don't, I don't have box
- 3:06office information either, but I can tell you that 12.21 million
- 3:09viewers watched it. Oh, that's cool.
- 3:11I like that for our TV movies where we have like that right
- 3:14there, that's their. Right, eyes on screen.
- 3:16Yeah, yeah. INDB score 5.4 out of 10. 5.4
- 3:21Wow, OK. I pulled 3 movies from 2002
- 3:26trying to look at a similar theme and I decided to go with
- 3:30Vengeance with a supernatural twist.
- 3:32Oh fun so. Cool.
- 3:34And there were actually quite a few of those.
- 3:35Pick from two of them are movies we have covered.
- 3:38Well, all three of them are movies we have covered
- 3:40previously, but two of them are 2B movies.
- 3:42Oh, perfect. All right, cool.
- 3:43Let's hear it. The.
- 3:44First one's witchcraft. Yeah, witchcraft.
- 3:47Oh I fucking love that movie, man.
- 3:49Witchcraft released September 25th, 2002.
- 3:52A budget of 5 million worldwide gross of 329,000.
- 3:57If I remember, sorry I don't mean to interrupt, but isn't
- 3:59isn't the whole crux of that thing they find like a magic
- 4:02penis? Yep.
- 4:03OK, and if you're if you're unsure, if you don't want to
- 4:06take the time to listen to the episode, just go read our the
- 4:09auto generated chapter titles. Oh yeah, that's right.
- 4:13I forgot. Yeah.
- 4:14IMDb score 5.2 out of 10. Yes, second movie has multiple
- 4:19names. Could be Survivor Survival
- 4:22Island or it could be Demon Island.
- 4:23Oh yeah, Demon Island. That movie was actually OK.
- 4:27It was pretty fun it. Was pretty fun that released
- 4:29June 14th 2002. I also don't have a budget or a
- 4:33gross for it. It does have a 2.6 out of 10 on
- 4:36IMDb. Oh yeah.
- 4:37I mean, it's not like a great movie.
- 4:39It's a fun movie. It's a fun movie.
- 4:41It's not. It's not here for a good time.
- 4:43It's here for a fun time. My favorite part about that
- 4:45movie is the poster where they took like a shredded dude and
- 4:48put like Xander's actor's face on the head.
- 4:51I. Mean, Nicholas, Brendan.
- 4:52He's shredded a little bit, but he wasn't.
- 4:55It was not him. It's so obvious that it's a
- 4:57Photoshop. 3rd movie almost feels kind of unfair in terms of
- 5:02what they were working with to put it with these.
- 5:04But we're looking at themes, right?
- 5:06So the Ring. That released.
- 5:10Yeah that released October 18th, 2002.
- 5:12A budget of 48 million and a worldwide gross of 249,000,000.
- 5:17IMDb 7.1 out of 10. Love it, also fits in a remake.
- 5:22It does, yeah. OK, I have a few tag lines.
- 5:25OK. Make a date with terror and have
- 5:29a bloody good time. It's kind of rude to carry.
- 5:33It is, yeah. If you've got a taste for
- 5:35terror, take Carrie to the prom. Again.
- 5:40If people just weren't Dicks to carry, she was a lovely.
- 5:44Prom. Date.
- 5:44Yeah, it would have just been like a fine prom.
- 5:48Yeah, that's all. Everybody was.
- 5:49Like to not go through the effort of setting up an
- 5:52elaborate pig blood trap. Everybody was cool until that
- 5:56one person wasn't. Yeah, and then it just too far.
- 6:00For a night you won't forget, join Kerry at the prom.
- 6:05I don't know why I'm saying I'm like that but.
- 6:07I don't know. It does have like a sinister
- 6:09tone to it. But you know, that could go
- 6:11either way though. Like you're going to have a
- 6:13great. Time like I think he's having a
- 6:15pretty. Good time with her.
- 6:15I think he was, yeah. He, he felt threatened by the
- 6:20teacher. So he like, he kind of had to
- 6:22have a good time with her or else.
- 6:24Yeah, there was that. Yeah, Carrie.
- 6:29Good girl, evil powers. Her powers aren't evil.
- 6:35Yeah, it's really kind of how you use them.
- 6:37Yeah, if only they knew she had the power.
- 6:43I mean, she was kind of showing it to them here.
- 6:45And yeah, like, they just had to pay more attention.
- 6:47Like really, a lot of this could just be addressed.
- 6:50Felt like don't be assholes. Yeah, really.
- 6:52But I mean, she was making it so clear.
- 6:54She's like, I like broke my desk in half.
- 6:57Like I I've thrown shit around. This That's how little they pay
- 7:00attention to. Her.
- 7:00I know it's telling. OK, so this was.
- 7:03I've got some fun facts. Yeah.
- 7:05So this was ATV movie requested by NBC.
- 7:08It was an international Co production by Canada and the US,
- 7:12produced by Trilogy Entertainment Group and MGM
- 7:14Television. So it's a joint effort.
- 7:18It was commissioned as a standalone movie, but it was
- 7:21truthfully intended as kind of a Packdoor pilot for ATV series.
- 7:25And that's why they changed the ending for Carrie to live.
- 7:28OK now. Brian Fuller played around with
- 7:31a few different ending ideas. One of them was to give Zeus
- 7:34Nelson powers and the other was to create a new carry.
- 7:40But in the end, they felt that it was really cruel to kill off
- 7:45a girl who had been victimized her entire life, which I think
- 7:49is, you know, that's part of the tragedy of the novel.
- 7:51Yeah. So I mean, yeah, it's, I don't
- 7:54like either tragic. I don't, I don't like any of
- 7:56these endings here. Like, I didn't, I hated that
- 7:58ending where they're like on the land together, you know?
- 8:01Like, yeah, that makes sense that it's a backdoor pilot,
- 8:04though. Yeah.
- 8:05And like, so they, they really thought Angela Bettis like, they
- 8:10did a much different kind of portrayal.
- 8:12Whereas Sissy Spacek, like really embodied the victim role.
- 8:15Angela Bettis had a little bit of a like nicer edge to her is
- 8:20what they said. Like a nicer and edgier tone to
- 8:23her. OK.
- 8:24So that's kind of how they felt about her portrayal.
- 8:28King was not involved in this. He was very disappointed by the
- 8:32rage Carrie too and he often not to be involved in this
- 8:36adaptation. I'm sorry, King I I blamed you
- 8:38for this in the first place. The only other fun fact I have
- 8:43is that this was, you know, it was considered a reimagining of
- 8:46the 70s movies. They had to update a lot of the
- 8:48school stuff from the 70s. They had to modernize it some,
- 8:50but they were also very careful into taking into account the
- 8:54Columbine shootings 'cause it was still very much on people's
- 8:57mind and he didn't want to lean into heavily to the whole
- 9:00teenage vigilante thing. Yeah, yeah.
- 9:03I guess I can't remember. I mean, that was fairly fresh.
- 9:06So yeah, that makes sense. That's.
- 9:08Why her rampage was a little bit different.
- 9:10I mean, it was still more of the same.
- 9:11I mean, yeah, but that's, that's what I had.
- 9:15OK? That's the information from the
- 9:17Internet. What's the information for my
- 9:19brains? What's the good, bad, ugly and
- 9:20absurd? OK, the good, I'm going to be up
- 9:24front with this right here. The good is going to be on the
- 9:26shorter side for me, OK. But the one thing I can say
- 9:30about it is that it's I think it benefits from being like an
- 9:35already well told story because at the heart of it, it's a
- 9:39really good revenge story. And that is that part still
- 9:44shines through in this movie. But the execution is a little
- 9:48bit to be desired for me. Man, I don't know, like I I
- 9:55don't have a whole lot good to say about this movie myself and
- 9:58I'm really struggling to think of anything else.
- 10:00So like add to this. So if you got anything you want
- 10:03to jump in with here, feel free. OK, well I did like the
- 10:07performances from most of the cast members.
- 10:09OK. I thought Angela Bettis
- 10:11especially, like she had some some really good moments where
- 10:15she was being the more ballsy Carrie.
- 10:17And I appreciated us seeing those, like when Sue Snell was
- 10:19talking to her in the drugstore and helping her with the makeup.
- 10:22And she goes, you act like you think you're superior to me, but
- 10:26it's OK because you're not like little ones like that.
- 10:29I kind of like, I don't. And I'll get into.
- 10:32I don't think her performance is all around stellar.
- 10:35I'm saying these vulnerable. No, I got you.
- 10:36I got you. I get what you're saying.
- 10:38I thought they did the fake nice mean girl thing really well.
- 10:42There are just a lot of really subtle moments throughout that
- 10:45if you've been a teenage girl, you recognize as teenage girl
- 10:48warfare. And so I thought that was really
- 10:50well done. Yeah, you probably caught that
- 10:52stuff more than I did, for sure. And then there were also just
- 10:54some things, I don't know if these are intentional or if it
- 10:57was a budgetary issue, but things that added a sense of
- 11:01realism to the movie, like all of the girls in the locker room
- 11:04having different kinds of towels.
- 11:06Because I feel like when you see it, like when you see a movie,
- 11:08generally they all have like white towels like this, all from
- 11:10a hotel or something. Yeah.
- 11:12This really truly feels like a brought your towel from home
- 11:14situation, which is what it would be like in most schools.
- 11:16Yeah, I guess you're right. Yeah.
- 11:18And also carries dress fabric, like the dress that she makes
- 11:21herself, the dress being so wrinkly and kind of stiff.
- 11:26It just felt so true to life. OK, so these are a lot of things
- 11:29that you can definitely notice that went over my head for.
- 11:31Sure. I pay attention to Yeah, like
- 11:33her dress definitely looked like when I don't get the exact right
- 11:37material for a project and I don't wanna deal with ironing or
- 11:40steaming it. That's what she got with the
- 11:42dress, and I really appreciated that.
- 11:44OK, so what's some of your bad? OK, hold on.
- 11:49I will give them one other point here.
- 11:51I think that they actually did a pretty good job of updating the
- 11:55time. Yes, again, they made it work
- 11:57like she does, like the Internet research for telekinesis and
- 12:00stuff like that. That makes sense.
- 12:01I did think it was kind of funny though in the librarian who's
- 12:04like an older little lady with one head to show her.
- 12:06Head yeah. Can you show me how to Internet?
- 12:08Like I guess that would kind of be how it is in 2002.
- 12:13Like, yeah, in 2002 I was, I think I was pretty good with the
- 12:16computer at that point. Yeah.
- 12:18But no, I don't know. OK, so bad.
- 12:20Unfortunately, this movie just had a very cheap feel to me.
- 12:24I I just don't think that like it's Scream TV movie, but it
- 12:29didn't just Scream TV movie to me.
- 12:30It screams like classic Hallmark movie to me.
- 12:35Oh, I can see that, yeah. It's just all of these things
- 12:39that add up. The cinematography, like I don't
- 12:42understand what this person was doing, but this fucking person,
- 12:45the DP loved Dutch angles like the little like it's like
- 12:51tilted. Oh, OK.
- 12:52Where it's like a little bit like diagonal, like the framing
- 12:54of The thing is, and it's just like too much.
- 12:58Like know your time and place for those right there.
- 13:00It was just a little bit. Yeah, it was a little bit too
- 13:03much for me. I thought the acting was pretty
- 13:05lackluster. The worst one was the evil
- 13:08boyfriend. Oh yeah, no, Billy Nolan.
- 13:11What the fuck? Terrible fucking acting.
- 13:14I'm sorry man. Like I don't want to be harsh on
- 13:16this person but. He doesn't even have a picture
- 13:18on IMDb. He doesn't know this is probably
- 13:20his own. He they need.
- 13:22They were desperate for people. I think that guy.
- 13:25Which is weird because you also have people like Catherine
- 13:28Isabel and Patricia Clarkson that are involved in this.
- 13:31Yeah, you got some like. Stellar.
- 13:33Yeah. Actors in this, it's kind of
- 13:35surprising to me, even like I can't remember her name, but the
- 13:40person that played Carrie. Angela Bettis, yeah, Also.
- 13:43She's been in like some pretty notable stuff too.
- 13:45She was in another horror movie this year too that I almost used
- 13:48in my yeah. Yeah, I recognize her from that.
- 13:51I've not even seen that movie, but I know that poster so well.
- 13:55And I also just, you know, there's just other things like
- 13:57music too. Like the music choices were
- 13:59really, really questionable for me sometimes.
- 14:01Like it's just like they went with very of that era music,
- 14:07which I thought was weird for that type of story.
- 14:11And I think that's one of those things you're going to like go
- 14:13back and listen to like some of the scenes, like the placement.
- 14:15But it was something that was so out of place for me and jarring
- 14:18that I just. Stuff like that always kind of
- 14:20screams TV movie to me. Yeah, same.
- 14:22And it just kind of killed the tone for me.
- 14:24Like any immersion was broken whenever I would hear this
- 14:28stupid song that was playing. And one thing that like, OK, I
- 14:33don't want to just like constantly be like, I like the
- 14:36original better. Therefore this movie is just
- 14:39inferior because of that. It's just.
- 14:40Hard not. To it's really hard not to, but
- 14:43here's one thing that I liked that the the original did that I
- 14:48wish they would have done in this one is how Tommy in the
- 14:51original 1, it's like more ambiguous like is he in on the
- 14:54prank? Is he like, I felt like they
- 14:57did, they played a little bit more ambiguous, like the entire
- 14:59time I was questioning like if he actually wanted to be around
- 15:02with her, they made him actually enjoy being with her in that
- 15:05one. And this one right here, he's
- 15:06very much like being. Forced by Sue.
- 15:09He's being forced by Miss Deja. And like, he doesn't seem like
- 15:12he wants to be a part of it. And I've got something about
- 15:14that that I'll talk about in my ugly.
- 15:16OK, but I I like the way I like Tommy's portrayal in the
- 15:20original, the original a lot better just because like, I
- 15:23mean, there was a long time I was thinking like this guy is
- 15:25totally going to fuck her over because he like they made him an
- 15:28asshole in this movie. Like when we get Tommy
- 15:31immediately he's like defending Carrie being picked on, you
- 15:34know, because he like throws a book at the guy and I don't
- 15:38know, like I just I thought that that made for a better, more
- 15:40interesting movie in the in that one.
- 15:43OK, that's it for my bad. But what do you have?
- 15:47This movie didn't need to be over 2 hours long.
- 15:49Oh my God, it's so fucking long but it's a Stephen King TV movie
- 15:52and they always. You're thinking of the
- 15:54miniseries, which are always 2 parters.
- 15:56That's what you're thinking of. This is not a miniseries.
- 15:58So this is all like just one night.
- 16:00Everybody watch this. And I didn't talk about this in
- 16:03my fun facts because I didn't want it to like color our
- 16:07discussion of this. But this movie was it received a
- 16:12lot of awards, mainly for like the performances, but it was
- 16:17panned partly because of atmosphere, partly because of
- 16:20length. OK, so critically, this was not
- 16:23a super well received movie. And that's one of the reasons
- 16:26why. And I, I, I get it.
- 16:27It feels very, it drags on. If you're going to use that
- 16:31flashback motif, you cannot do it for longer than two hours.
- 16:35Like you can't do it for longer than about an hour because at
- 16:38some point the past has to meet the present.
- 16:41And we don't ever get that in this.
- 16:43So there's never like a resolution to that.
- 16:46And also, I can't tell what kind of tone they were trying to have
- 16:49because it was all over the place a little bit.
- 16:52It was also, I think, unnecessary to add like the
- 16:54police station questioning scenes like this is just a way
- 16:57to frame like the story we're watching unfold in the 1st.
- 17:00It's like we didn't need that. And I'm going to be very
- 17:04transparent here. I've read the book, but I last
- 17:06read it in high school, so that was 16 years ago.
- 17:10So I don't remember how I remember that.
- 17:13There were a lot of like newspaper clippings and stuff
- 17:15framing the story, but I don't remember if there was like
- 17:18excessive police station stuff or not.
- 17:20Gotcha. See, I've never, I've never read
- 17:22the story. Yeah, it's a short 1 and I
- 17:24really should go back and reread it, but every time I think about
- 17:27it, it's too close to prom month and I don't want to.
- 17:30I I get so negatively impacted when I watch a movie after
- 17:34reading the book versus the other way around 'cause I I as
- 17:39much of a hard time as we were just talking about having
- 17:41comparing this to the to the 1970s one, the the De Palmas
- 17:46theory. I have a very, very hard time
- 17:49separating book and movie, especially when it comes to
- 17:52Stephen King adaptations. And I've discovered I just need
- 17:55to watch the movie before I read the book.
- 17:57That's pretty much the only way that I can actually enjoy the
- 17:59movie. Yep, I I get that.
- 18:02But yeah, those that that wasn't my main thing like it just I
- 18:05when it started the way it started, I was like, oh, cool,
- 18:08we're settled in for an easy hour and a half because you
- 18:11can't the way that what I did not know how long it was.
- 18:14We paused that 45 minutes into the movie and we had an hour and
- 18:18a half left and you're like what the fuck?
- 18:20Yeah, 'cause it just that story doesn't need that runtime.
- 18:23No it doesn't. OK, ugly.
- 18:26Ugly, I just wrote. Do I really have to say?
- 18:28I mean, it's, I mean, it's the whole point of the movie, like
- 18:33the excessive bullying of this character.
- 18:35These people are just like, they're not even cartoonishly.
- 18:39You mean it's just like it's to like a whole another level.
- 18:44Like I, I don't think that this type of like cruelty in school
- 18:48is realistic. You know what I mean?
- 18:50Like I I know people can be super, super mean in school, but
- 18:53like the the links that they go. I can tell you that that's going
- 18:56to be more accurate to the book, just knowing how Stephen King
- 18:58writes, even without having reread this in a long time.
- 19:01He loves an over the top, cartoonishly evil bully.
- 19:04Does he? Yeah.
- 19:05But I mean, part of that's because he's telling a scary
- 19:07story. And what's more evil than a
- 19:09teenager? I guess that's true.
- 19:10That's a great point. Yeah.
- 19:12But I mean, yeah, I mean that that's pretty much it.
- 19:14Also the mom. Oh yeah, religious abuse and
- 19:18abuse. Abuse.
- 19:21So we've got, it's so funny that Patricia Clarkson, she plays one
- 19:25of my least favorite movie moms in Margaret White, but she also
- 19:31plays Emma Stone's mom in Easy A and that is like, I love her
- 19:36parents in that movie, The way they're written and portrayed.
- 19:39And you said she's also Tammy one?
- 19:41And she's Tammy one. She's got, she's got range, is
- 19:45what we're saying. Yeah, although Tammy 1 is very
- 19:48close to Margaret. Wyatt Oh, yeah, no, definitely
- 19:50more on that that end of the spectrum.
- 19:52Also, and this is what I was going to say before about the
- 19:55way Tommy treats Carrie in this. The way he talks to her is the
- 19:58way you would talk to a dog. Like he doesn't talk to her like
- 20:01she's human. The most human he gets with her
- 20:04is when he's like, it's not like your ceiling claps.
- 20:06She goes. Yeah, my ceiling class, he goes,
- 20:08can I see it? That's something that was like
- 20:10human. He plays with the rest of the
- 20:12time he's like, you want dance? You want some punch?
- 20:14So imagine like when he you look real pretty goes like gets in a
- 20:16punch, brings it back in a bowl. Like you go just like look it
- 20:20up, you know, like that's how you guys drink, right?
- 20:22You scoop it with your tongue. Like, and I think we're even
- 20:24less pandering to Talia than he is.
- 20:26Weird Talia lives a better life than us.
- 20:29In his house, yeah. She's got a higher budget.
- 20:32OK, What's your answer? So back to like the bullying,
- 20:36but I thought it was like very much high school PSA levels of
- 20:40unoriginal type bullying. Oh yeah, it just.
- 20:43They took away the plug it up, they put it on the locker, but
- 20:46they took away them chanting plug it up and instead they just
- 20:49shout period at her. That's a downgrade.
- 20:52Yeah, it's just like, yeah, like I just.
- 21:00I can't. We're going to get into a lot of
- 21:02this stupid shit in a little bit.
- 21:05But I also thought it was really fucking weird that her mom says
- 21:08that only bad girls get big boobs.
- 21:11What? Because they're dirty pillows.
- 21:14But like they're. Beacons of sin, Travis.
- 21:16I like how that one girl calls her and she's like whoa her
- 21:19mom's a hypocrite because she's got C coughs.
- 21:21And Carrie's like, no, my mom said that she, she's a Sinner.
- 21:25She is a bad girl. That's how she had me.
- 21:27That's true. Yeah.
- 21:29That's so weird to me, though. Like she's like a very, very
- 21:33like, it's not even like actually following the religion
- 21:35at that point. She thinks like procreating is a
- 21:37sin. Well, that's funny because you
- 21:40want to hear my absurd. Yeah, my absurd is during one of
- 21:44Margaret's monologues to carry where she says Jesus can't help
- 21:49you with your sin. Oh yeah, we talked about it for
- 21:53like 5 minutes here and then we were like, that's kind of like
- 21:56that's his thing, That's his main thing.
- 21:58That and carpentry, like those are the big things that Jesus
- 22:03does, helps with sin. Very forgiving.
- 22:06Yes, it's. God, that is not very.
- 22:08Forgiving. Yes.
- 22:09God's like fuck yeah God. Old Testament, No having a child
- 22:14really softened. Jesus.
- 22:15Jesus is the mediator. He's like, hold on, hold on.
- 22:17I know him. I can talk.
- 22:19To him, Dad, Dad, this is my friend.
- 22:21But they sin but but. They know not.
- 22:26What they have done, we're going to hell.
- 22:31And God's like, oh, oh, OK, my bad.
- 22:39OK, this is going on all right. Also the Freddie Prince junior
- 22:43argument sound. It's it's not an incorrect.
- 22:47Argument very, very accurate. Yeah.
- 22:50But I I didn't expect that. And that was another incident of
- 22:54it being like a modernized version, like Freddie Prinze
- 22:57Junior is like a very big influence on this movie, which
- 23:01is insane to me. And I, I even said it.
- 23:04I pointed out that like, sometimes he smiles and he's got
- 23:06like almost a Freddie Prinze? Junior asks.
- 23:09He's trying to channel. It and it feels, yeah, it
- 23:10definitely feels like he's trying to channel it.
- 23:12And the final thing? Meteors I read OK that is the
- 23:17thing in the book apparently Apparently it is but what the
- 23:20fuck? I was just like OK watching
- 23:23Carrie I know how this story goes.
- 23:25Immediately title card meteors falling through the Carrie sign.
- 23:28Like what the. Fuck, was that from the book?
- 23:31I know I was like honestly, I couldn't tell you.
- 23:32I well at. First I was like, OK, this is
- 23:34stylized 2000s, all right? We're getting a little extreme
- 23:38with an X here, you know, like. 2.
- 23:42X's Exactly. Yeah.
- 23:43But like, then whenever the moment happens, like Carrie gets
- 23:47in an argument with her mom and all of a sudden meteors start
- 23:49falling from the sky. I'm like, oh, so this is, like,
- 23:51actually a thing? We're not just being stylized.
- 23:54Like, it's just like a part of the story.
- 23:55And then never again. Well, yeah, twice.
- 24:00Twice in the movie. Meteors.
- 24:03Yeah, the beginning of the movie.
- 24:04And then when Margaret beats the ever loving shit out of Carrie
- 24:09when she's talking to us still about her boobs.
- 24:11Yeah, it's just, it's crazy to me.
- 24:13So. OK, where are your absurds?
- 24:15That was it. Oh, that was your absurd.
- 24:17OK, OK. I thought you had more.
- 24:18OK. Not that Jesus is absurd, but
- 24:21the the argument that Jesus can't help you with your sins.
- 24:23I know, man, Jesus has got your back.
- 24:27Yeah, that's what they need to start saying in church.
- 24:30Jesus has your back. I'd wear that on AT shirt.
- 24:34On the back. On the back.
- 24:35Yeah, that's where he's got me. Oh.
- 24:38My God, don't steal that idea. God damn Jesse, we can grip.
- 24:42We can grip so hard now. What are you rating it?
- 24:46I didn't like this like I, I, I really didn't like it.
- 24:50Just it's a four. 4 I'm giving it A5 OK?
- 24:55Like it's right there. Like it's not the worst, but I
- 24:58don't know that it's one that I'd come back to again.
- 25:00I would never. Watch I would watch the De
- 25:02Palmas on. I'm interested to see next year
- 25:04how we feel about the the 2013. Yeah, 'cause we have watched
- 25:09that one before, but it's been so long I can't remember
- 25:12anything. We saw that one in theater.
- 25:14We did. OK, time to talk.
- 25:16All right, what's the average? 04.54.5 OK sorry I thought you
- 25:20knew that you're an accountant. Well, I did, but you gotta say
- 25:23it for the other people, the non accountants out there, sure.
- 25:25OK, I'm sorry non accountants. Yeah, OK, let's go.
- 25:30We start off with the baby crying and asteroids meteors.
- 25:33Yeah, buddy, birth, followed by the comments.
- 25:35Yeah. That's that's the Bible forge.
- 25:39Yeah. Let me get to.
- 25:42OK. Good detective interviewing Sue
- 25:44Snell. He talks a lot about drugs and
- 25:46doughnuts, which seems like it would be a good time, except he
- 25:49knows she's kind of being questioned for murder, so.
- 25:53Yeah. Carrie is being made fun of a
- 25:57lot. The first thing we see here is
- 25:58being teased because she's excused from class because her
- 26:02mom, you know, wrote for her to be excused from this class.
- 26:05And everybody was like, really just being.
- 26:08That like why? Well, what's the basis for being
- 26:11made fun of here? This is what I'm talking about,
- 26:14Yeah. It's just so we get like another
- 26:18guy. It's like another day in school.
- 26:19She's over there doodling. She's in the.
- 26:21Library. That's where she went went to
- 26:23when she was excused from class. Oh OK, well she's doodling like
- 26:27a picture of her and Tommy. She's crushing hard on Tommy
- 26:29right here and a couple of other boys noticed that she's kind of
- 26:33like looking at him so they start making like little kissy
- 26:35sounds at her. They start no, it turns into
- 26:38full blown sexual harassment. Actually, you're right.
- 26:40He's he's starts moaning. Yeah, yeah, you're right.
- 26:42I forgot about that. Yeah, he's.
- 26:43Doing like a full on orgasm and then Tommy throws a book at his
- 26:46face. In PE.
- 26:47They're playing softball and Carrie strikes out and everybody
- 26:50takes it way too seriously because again, it's PE.
- 26:53It's just gym class. Like why are they?
- 26:56Stakes are they could not be lower you.
- 26:58Fucking suck Carrie. Like what?
- 27:00Nobody is that invested in PE softball?
- 27:03I'm sorry, it's just not a thing.
- 27:07I OK, no. So in Jim Coston High school we
- 27:10did play like flag football or something one time and there
- 27:14were these girls that were taking it way too seriously, but
- 27:16it probably one of them yelled at me cuz hello me football.
- 27:20No yeah. And I was just like, what
- 27:24happens if we lose and they didn't have a response?
- 27:28And the gym teacher was like, you, you diffuse that really
- 27:30well. I was like, yeah, thank you.
- 27:31Like, but also, I don't care. Like no offense to you and your
- 27:34job, but I don't care about football.
- 27:36Like, yeah. I don't.
- 27:39I don't feel any sense of like myself has disappeared with not
- 27:44being good at flag football. Which is weird because you're a
- 27:46super competitive person. I am super competitive, but you
- 27:49know, I have to channel that entertain into the things I
- 27:52know. I.
- 27:52That you actually care. About.
- 27:53Yeah, yeah. OK.
- 27:56So they go, they have to shower after gym class.
- 27:59And I appreciate that the stalls actually were stalls and not
- 28:02just open like every shower or whatever.
- 28:05Yeah, and Carrie gets her period and instead of cause like in the
- 28:10book and obviously in the original, the tampon machines
- 28:13broken. So they busted open to steal a
- 28:16bunch of tampons and they're pelting them at her and shouting
- 28:19plug it up, plug it up, just surrounding her and shouting
- 28:22period. Yes, traumatic, definitely still
- 28:26a bad time. But how do you take a formula
- 28:28like that and make it worse? I feel bad for her because she
- 28:32doesn't even know what a period is so in her mind they're just
- 28:34like yelling punctuation at her. Like what are you talking about?
- 28:38What did I get wrong? Did I forget a period?
- 28:40Even when you know what a period is, there is still like a slight
- 28:45moment of existential dread the first time it happened.
- 28:48I'm sure. What the fuck.
- 28:49Like, you know, mentally, intellectually what it is, but
- 28:53actually experiencing it is still terrifying the first time.
- 28:57I I can only imagine it would be terrifying.
- 29:00Yeah, the coach helps, kind of. She, Mr. Jardin, I like, she
- 29:08constantly pulls me to her side and then pushes me away.
- 29:12I never know how to feel about the way she treats Carrie
- 29:15because she's like helping Carrie.
- 29:17And then Carrie is like hysterical and so she slaps her
- 29:20and I'm just like. I think that they they saw the
- 29:25slapping in the original movie and like we got to have her slap
- 29:28somebody, but they made it the wrong person because she needed
- 29:30to slap. Chris yeah.
- 29:34But all she does is like pin Chris up against like the Walker
- 29:36or something later. She still gets physical.
- 29:39She still crosses the boundary. Yeah.
- 29:41But yeah, like slap and carry here.
- 29:44I don't, I don't, I don't agree with it.
- 29:46Well, and in the book, there's one thing I do remember is that
- 29:48Mister Jardin has like weird feelings about Carrie.
- 29:52So like she's mostly like, I don't like the way she's
- 29:54treated, but she's also like she I don't want her grabbing me
- 29:57like she was like getting period blood all over her.
- 29:59I mean, I think that that's kind of like fair.
- 30:01Yeah, I've been like, no, don't touch me.
- 30:03Yeah, All right, so they're in the principal's office.
- 30:06They're talking about everything.
- 30:07The principal keeps calling Carrie Cassie, which is starting
- 30:10to piss Carrie off. And like, so Mr. Jardin is like,
- 30:13she didn't even know what was happening to her own body is not
- 30:16OK. And the Prince is like, listen,
- 30:17we can't educate her against her mom's like, wishes.
- 30:20And I would argue that that's the whole fucking point of
- 30:23public school. Yeah, that's why I thought too.
- 30:25Yeah. You're supposed to learn about
- 30:26the things, especially the things that parents aren't
- 30:28teaching their kids. Yeah, in in today's life, she
- 30:32would just be homeschooled. I get, yeah, well, I guess it's
- 30:35probably like a touchy because of the religious exemption
- 30:38should like that they could do, you know, they could get in a
- 30:41lot of trouble if they really tried to do that.
- 30:43But they do excuse her from gym for a week and he keeps calling
- 30:46her Cassie like you said and she doesn't like it.
- 30:49Gets so mad she throws the desk like she just like rows it up
- 30:53against the wall over there and they all are like, just all
- 30:56right, we're going to pretend like that didn't happen, right?
- 30:58Well, because, I mean, she didn't actually physically do
- 31:00it. Yeah, but they can't be like
- 31:02Cassie. Don't be throwing desks.
- 31:04That's not what I'm saying. Nobody's reacting like holy
- 31:06shit, that desk just moved on its own.
- 31:08Everybody's like, OK, this is totally normal.
- 31:10Let's not even acknowledge this. She goes to her locker and plug
- 31:15it up, his graffiti on it and hundreds of tampons are just
- 31:20stacked up in there. That's everybody in the hallway
- 31:24is laughing at her. They're laughing.
- 31:27They're. Laughing.
- 31:28They're Detroiters. They're laughing.
- 31:32So she's walking home and there's this kid on a bike and
- 31:35he is like, he passes her and he's like, hold, hold on, I'm
- 31:38going to turn around and hold her.
- 31:42Like he doesn't even go to the high school, he's like 6th grade
- 31:46at best. He's like, oh, this person looks
- 31:48like they need this right now. Hold on, let me do my civil
- 31:51duty. And that honestly, he's lucky he
- 31:56didn't get a Roundhouse kick to the face, which is what somebody
- 31:59can sneak up. I'm like, that would be
- 32:00completely entitled to do. But instead she just mind throws
- 32:04him. Mind freak, she's.
- 32:08Criss Angel. Mind freak but it's so so bad
- 32:13when he gets tossed from the bike though.
- 32:15Like they didn't slow motion but it's like they shot it real time
- 32:19so it's like dangling on the wires just so slowly through the
- 32:22air. He probably couldn't.
- 32:24Have a kid that young do like a stunt where he just eats himself
- 32:28off the bike. Surely not.
- 32:29No, you can't mind. Freak that kid.
- 32:31Like, come on. So she gets home and she sees
- 32:36like a holes in her roof and wearing like a hole on the
- 32:40railing of her stairs. And for a minute I thought this
- 32:43was just demonstrating that they take such poor care of their
- 32:46house that like erosion, like I was like, oh, the gutter has a
- 32:51hole. The rain wore away the the stair
- 32:54rail. That's what I thought was
- 32:56happening. But then we see her flashback
- 32:58and this is the same actress who is in Twilight Eclipse and
- 33:04Silent Hill. The Little Carrie.
- 33:06Yeah, young, Carrie, Josh, Jordelle, something like that.
- 33:11Yeah, I know you're talking about.
- 33:12Yeah, that she is talking to the neighbor Estelle about booze and
- 33:18saying she wants in 7th day. Yeah.
- 33:19She's just out there like she's sunbathing topless and like, she
- 33:22rolls over. She's like, what's up, kid?
- 33:24And she's like, what are those? Like these are called breasts.
- 33:28How do you not know this? You're like 12.
- 33:33But yeah, so that that obviously upsets Margaret, who comes out
- 33:38and is like, stop talking about dirty pillows.
- 33:41Margaret drags her inside. And the whole neighborhood is
- 33:43starting to gather it because Margaret and Estella's mom and
- 33:47dad are shouting at each other. And so the whole neighborhood
- 33:49gets attracted. Margaret brings Carrie inside,
- 33:52and you just hear screaming and walloping.
- 33:56And you can see some of them are like, should we be calling the
- 34:00police? Yeah, 'cause it sounds like
- 34:03Carrie might die today. Yep.
- 34:06Except then the meteors start. Yep, it's just meteors.
- 34:13Like what the fuck? Even in the book I'm going to
- 34:17say this feels so weird. It's it is like I I don't think
- 34:21that that even needs to be a thing.
- 34:22It's just crazy. So, Carrie, not in present time,
- 34:28exactly, because that was a flashback within a flashback.
- 34:30We're still technically a flashback, man.
- 34:32She asked her mom I shouldn't warn her about her period.
- 34:35And she was like, well, I just didn't think you'd be such a
- 34:37goddamn Sinner. It's like I hoped you wouldn't
- 34:40catch the curse. Yeah, it's a curse.
- 34:42She's like, you're a woman now. You're cursed.
- 34:45That's that's an accurate way to look at it though.
- 34:48So it is a curse. She locks her in the closet to
- 34:53pray she's gotta admit that she's being bad.
- 34:56Yep. So now we're back to present
- 34:58day. Cop is still questioning Sue.
- 35:01Curious fucking diary. I know.
- 35:03Rude. Well, I mean, come on.
- 35:05She did kill a lot of people. I think that's kind of standard
- 35:07procedure for somebody that killed a lot of people.
- 35:09Yes, Yeah. Engages in a religious debate
- 35:12with Sue. Sue says that she couldn't tell
- 35:16you much about the The Last Supper, but she can tell you a
- 35:21lot more details from dogs playing poker.
- 35:23What a fun metaphor. Yeah, yeah.
- 35:26And the cops, like, respect. You're right, Carrie.
- 35:30Carrie's sneaking some pop culture magazines into the
- 35:33closet. Board in the closet where she
- 35:35hides her magazines. Kutch Desjardins is incredibly
- 35:41aggro with her class and like it from a non professional
- 35:46standpoint. I applaud her just telling these
- 35:49girls that they're shitheads. But you can't do that when
- 35:52you're a teacher. You're in a position of power
- 35:55over these girls. Like, yeah.
- 35:56She's crossing the line here because I mean, I'm not going to
- 35:58lie, it didn't. It was nice to see these kids
- 36:00get it. I think the thing that was
- 36:02really ridiculous, so like, out of all of this, the thing that
- 36:04hurt all of them the most is whenever she was like, you call
- 36:07her ugly, you're ugly. They're ugly.
- 36:10She's just like, that was the thing that really got them.
- 36:13And she's pelting them with tampons.
- 36:16She said she wanted them all to have three day suspension and
- 36:18have their prom tickets revoked, but the school board out voted
- 36:22her. They said that those punishments
- 36:25will happen if they don't attend the five days of detention.
- 36:29They're all being assigned. But to give give Mr. Desjardins
- 36:34some to give her her or no? She is in charge of their
- 36:41detention. Their detention is happening in
- 36:43gym class for the rest of the week while Carrie is in the
- 36:45library. Yep.
- 36:46And she's going to run them ragged.
- 36:48Yeah. And Carrie, meanwhile, in the
- 36:50library, is searching telekinesis.
- 36:53Yeah. Can you she goes to the library
- 36:54and can you teach me to Internet?
- 36:56Yeah, the detector talks to Sue about Chris Harkinson, says that
- 37:01Chris Harrison wrote a letter to Donna Kellogg about getting
- 37:05kicked out of the prom and how she's gonna get her revenge.
- 37:07And I thought this name was gonna be a lot more important.
- 37:10I made a point of writing down Donna Kellogg.
- 37:11I was like, cool, we're gonna see this come back.
- 37:14Never again. Not a single person we see.
- 37:17Also, we didn't talk about the fact that this detective, the
- 37:19actor's name is David Keith, which just feels like it's such,
- 37:25so close. I feel like he's.
- 37:28So far away. This guy probably in.
- 37:32It's a stage name. Yes, he changed his name to
- 37:36that. That way he could, like, get
- 37:37called back. Like we got Keith David
- 37:39interested in this project. He's like, no, you know, last
- 37:42name first, then my first name, you know, like it's very formal.
- 37:46Yeah. No, it's Keith Comma David.
- 37:48Yeah, exactly. So it's four days, so prom we
- 37:54get some kids passing notes in class and.
- 37:57They're really mad that Chris is suspended and was kicked out of
- 38:01the prom. See, this is like a Carrie's
- 38:03fault. I hate this is so stupid because
- 38:06it's I can't remember her name. Tina, who is.
- 38:10Yeah, I think, Tina. She's like, yeah, thanks for
- 38:12getting her suspended. Like she didn't do shit.
- 38:15You guys made fun of her. You got in trouble for it.
- 38:18Add this to my list of bad because Catherine Isabel is
- 38:21criminally underused and she was such a good like spiritual
- 38:24successor to PJ Souls for this role.
- 38:27I agree. Yeah.
- 38:28Was that the same character? Yeah.
- 38:30I think she would have been better if she was used a little
- 38:33bit better. You're right.
- 38:34Because I love Catherine Isabel. She's a great actor.
- 38:38So they are passing the note and Carrie's getting, you know, she
- 38:41knows it's about her. So she starts to have like this
- 38:43episode and she completely blacks out for the entire class
- 38:48and breaks her desk in. Half she's having like a 45
- 38:51minute. Seizure or like breaks her desk
- 38:53in half. Yeah, like bends her metal
- 38:55ruler. Yeah, everything is just like
- 38:58fucked up on her desk and nobody knows and the.
- 39:00Teacher's like Carrie, you're going to be late.
- 39:05That's that's it. And then I think this is
- 39:08probably my favorite scene in the movie because Chris's dad,
- 39:11who's a lawyer, is meeting with the principal and he's you know,
- 39:15they're like throwing cases in precedence back and forth
- 39:20against each other. And the principal basically
- 39:23plays in universe. He's like, OK, fine.
- 39:25If that is harassment and assault then I will be
- 39:29countersuing Chris for the same because she did XY and Z to
- 39:32carry. Not only that, but like he like
- 39:35starts off, he's like, all right, well, let me pull up a
- 39:37record here. Here are her grades.
- 39:39She's AC average student. She has 27 different violations
- 39:43against several other students. It's just like damn, this guy
- 39:46brought the fucking receipts. Yeah, he was ready for it and I
- 39:50loved it. My dad gets all huffy and just
- 39:53leaves. Yeah, it was cool.
- 39:55I thought he was going to cake. I thought he was going to bend
- 39:57because that's how it like, seemed that first He's like, all
- 39:59right, so you're going to sue us then?
- 40:00And he's like, all right. Chris and Sue are at a bowling
- 40:06alley that night and they talk to each other, which we don't
- 40:08see their friendship falling out in this movie either.
- 40:11It doesn't seem like they're ever actually even friends.
- 40:13No it doesn't. Which kind of takes away from
- 40:15any kind of impact of this scene, for example, because
- 40:18Chris is like, why didn't you stand up with me at the gym
- 40:20class? Like, maybe I wouldn't have been
- 40:22suspended if we'd all done it and shown him how stupid it was.
- 40:24And she was like, we shouldn't be such assholes.
- 40:27Have you ever considered that point?
- 40:29She's. Like also, we wanted to go to
- 40:30prom. Yeah, it's really stupid to do
- 40:32that if you wanted to go to. And you think they can't take
- 40:35away all of our prom tickets? They absolutely can't.
- 40:38They're already paid for. Exactly.
- 40:40Yeah. So yeah, she's just really mad
- 40:42and stews over it. Carrie is at home practicing
- 40:47moving her hair brush. Just little bits in here, much
- 40:50like my cousin and I used to do when we would watch Matilda
- 40:53while our kids we'd be like, all right, surely we can cultivate
- 40:57telekinetic power. And then her mom starts knocking
- 41:02on the door, and that, much like little Gohan, it's when her.
- 41:06Her emotions. Are heightened that her powers
- 41:09are at their strongest. Meanwhile, we have Tommy who is
- 41:13trying to convince Sue not to do this whole plan that she has of
- 41:17having Tommy take Carey to the prom by using Freddie Prince
- 41:20Junior logic, which was he uses that movie.
- 41:25I I don't know what movie is. I think it's the movie with him
- 41:27and Paul. Walker Yeah, yeah.
- 41:30Where that's what he's yeah, that's what he's saying.
- 41:32About yeah, trying to take her to the prom or something like
- 41:33that. Turn the nerd girl into like the
- 41:35cool girl. And he's like, and she's
- 41:37supposed to not be very hot, but really, she's just wearing
- 41:39glasses. I do like that he calls out
- 41:41that, like, that's literally the only thing.
- 41:43Yeah, some people think glasses are hot.
- 41:46I do. Yeah, I mean, I wasn't going to
- 41:48name anybody in this room, but. What's up?
- 41:53But now she's like no, like seriously, you got to take her
- 41:55or else like. And I do generally like that.
- 41:59Like if this is the part of a movie, it's not something that
- 42:01we should be doing in real life. Yeah.
- 42:04I I don't want to generalize it to Freddie Prince Junior,
- 42:06though, because, well. Yeah, I guess I kind of worked
- 42:12out for him in that movie, but in like other movies such as I
- 42:15Know What You Did Last Summer, he's usually a dumb ass.
- 42:17That's true. Oh man, at some point we're
- 42:19going to have to cover the 20251.
- 42:21I know you don't really want to revisit it, so we're gonna have
- 42:24to cover it, and we're gonna have to talk about one of the
- 42:27most confusing plot lines in a series of movies that I think
- 42:30I've ever seen. I don't.
- 42:32Wanna. Well, we're gonna have.
- 42:34To I know we've talked about two bad movies in a row now.
- 42:37At this point I wanna go back to good movies.
- 42:39We will next week. We will next week, my friend.
- 42:43You're right. You're right.
- 42:44Just you wait. Carrie, wait.
- 42:47OK, now. So now we get like Tommy at
- 42:51school the next day asking carried a prom and she's
- 42:53rightfully suspicious. Yeah.
- 42:56She's like, this is totally a prank.
- 42:58And it's because I trust you. The the group of Mean Girls are
- 43:01over there too, like being Mean Girls.
- 43:03So like, of course they're going to wait for a like a laugh.
- 43:05And Tom's like, no, like, look, if anybody laughs or is mean, I
- 43:09will hit them. And you know what?
- 43:10He is probably true. He threw a book at somebody
- 43:13already. So she knows.
- 43:14She knows that he will. Yeah.
- 43:18So. She agrees.
- 43:18Yeah, after he keeps pressing her about.
- 43:20It yeah. And he's like, I think it would
- 43:21be nice. I think you're different.
- 43:23And she's like OK, cool. He goes no, no.
- 43:25OK, interesting. Mysterious.
- 43:27Mysterious, the detective thinks Sue, Chris and Tommy basically
- 43:32all plotted to humiliate Carrie, which is what Carrie was kind of
- 43:37thinking at first. Carrie tells her mom about the
- 43:40problem and Margaret is like, no, and Carrie's like no.
- 43:43I'm going and things are going to start changing around here.
- 43:46Mother. Got to try and start fitting in
- 43:49like people think I'm weird. I like how the mom didn't even
- 43:52dispute that. Yeah, you are.
- 43:54Yeah, you're weird, creep. Like, I don't even really like
- 43:58being around you all that much. I do think I keep locking you in
- 44:03the closet. And she tries to leave, but
- 44:06Carrie closes the door on her and she's like, no, like.
- 44:09And she tosses the table too. And I'm like, Mama, what are you
- 44:11going to talk about this right? Now, here's the thing.
- 44:14There are things that I do remember from the book, right?
- 44:16And I remember her practicing moving stuff around.
- 44:20Yeah. So I thought we were going to at
- 44:22least get some of that, considering how fucking long
- 44:25this movie is. But we see one scene of her
- 44:27practicing with the hair brush and then all of a sudden she can
- 44:29use her powers to control. Super Well, yeah.
- 44:31Like there was no development. The pacing is all over.
- 44:35Yeah, yeah. You know, the weird thing is
- 44:38like the guy that made like wrote this, Bryan Ford, he's
- 44:40like responsible for a lot of successful TV adaptations like
- 44:43he did Hannibal. I think he's working on the new
- 44:47Friday the 13th show that's coming out.
- 44:49Yeah, he's not. Like it's not.
- 44:51This just wasn't his best. No, I mean he was also like.
- 44:54This is probably one of his first ones too.
- 44:56Yeah. So detective is interviewing
- 44:59Norma. She's the class president and
- 45:03asking if he thought this, if she thought this was a plain
- 45:06friend. Oh my God this fucking girl is
- 45:08so irritating. This is where, like, the
- 45:10interviews start becoming gratuitous, because they're not
- 45:14really. Adding anything?
- 45:16Yeah, yeah. This person, this character, I
- 45:19feel is just like inserted into this story for no reason
- 45:21whatsoever, just so I have this energy.
- 45:24Like, because he's going to make this big reveal about the real
- 45:27ballots being tossed out. But like, that's not a reveal.
- 45:31Like we know this was a prank. Yeah, yeah.
- 45:34It's just, Oh my God, I can't stand this.
- 45:37Chris overhears Carrie on the phone talking to basically,
- 45:40like, I don't know, like a spiritual counselor or somebody
- 45:43about her, her abilities. And she comes in and she was
- 45:46like, no, like we just tease you because like, we like you, like
- 45:50you're fun. But you do need to worry.
- 45:53You do need to like be careful with Sue.
- 45:55Like I know that you guys are like piling around now and like
- 45:57that's great, but Sue likes to have her little projects and
- 46:00it's kind of her MO. So, you know, just kind of be
- 46:03aware of how she talks to you. She's like, Sue won't be a bitch
- 46:07upfront. I will.
- 46:08That's true, but. Chris is not being a bitch
- 46:11upfront, she's doing secret girl bitch.
- 46:13Yeah, yeah. So we now see Carrie is at a
- 46:17store, she's trying on some makeup.
- 46:19Sue sponsor and approaches and tries to give her some pointers
- 46:22on it. And she asks her why she cares.
- 46:25And Sue's like, well, I just, you know, I just want to help
- 46:29out. And she's like you, No, you
- 46:31just, you feel sorry for me and you feel superior to me.
- 46:34But it's OK because that's not true.
- 46:36Thanks for your help. Bye.
- 46:38And I wish I could have seen more of this, like I wanted more
- 46:41nuance in this. And with with, I'm sorry I have
- 46:44to keep parking on it with a two hour and 15 minute runtime.
- 46:48There's time for those types of things and we just don't get it
- 46:51in this. No, we need more detective and
- 46:54girl who did the ballots eating food.
- 46:57I could live without Keith Comma David.
- 47:01Yeah, I don't need his character.
- 47:04Two days before prom, Sue and her crew are Sue and the Sue
- 47:09ads, if you will. They are painting banners and
- 47:13Tina sees Chris come in and she shows her new ballots with
- 47:17Carrie's name as one of the candidates for prom queen and
- 47:23Chris gets an idea and calls Billy.
- 47:26Kerry tries to talk about prom with her mom again.
- 47:28Yeah, she shows her the dress she's going to make and she does
- 47:31not like the dress pic. Yeah, she says that it's not,
- 47:36it's not very modest. And she's just not having fun.
- 47:40And she was like, it's. Also red can't do.
- 47:42Red, she's like mom, it's pink. She's like, why are you so like
- 47:47sinful? You're a Sinner.
- 47:48Those dresses, it's a sin dress. Well, I mean, you're already
- 47:52cursed, so like it, if everything you do is cursed in
- 47:55like a sin, then just fucking go with it then.
- 47:57Like, if you're not gonna be able to live a perfect life,
- 47:59then I guess you're just gonna like, live one of those lives.
- 48:03You know when people nowadays are like talking about an
- 48:06adorable character they love and they call them the cinnamon bun?
- 48:09Yeah. Margaret White is a Cinnabon.
- 48:13Cinnabon. Yeah, Cinnabyte.
- 48:15Yeah, Cinnabyte better good punch up.
- 48:19I'm gonna leave all of this in because that was a good punch
- 48:21back here. So we're back to the cops.
- 48:25He is questioning Jackie now. Yeah, we still haven't even
- 48:28gotten. I know, but don't worry, we're
- 48:31getting there now. So Jackie, like we got busted on
- 48:35the fucking like CCVTCCV. Yeah, camera footage, crystal
- 48:43clear circuit. Television.
- 48:45Exactly. Yeah, thank you.
- 48:46The crystal clear picture though that he that whoever this farmer
- 48:49was got top of the line ship for 2002.
- 48:52Yeah, apparently his his fence wasn't doing the job.
- 48:56Yeah. And yeah, like, OK, So what the
- 48:59fuck were you guys doing there? Obviously Sue was there with
- 49:02you. And he's like, well, no, Sue
- 49:05wasn't there. And then we go back in time to
- 49:07the pig farm. Yep, and Chris, Billy, Jackie
- 49:11and another person that I think they said the name briefly and I
- 49:14didn't write it down. He reminded me of why of the guy
- 49:18that plays Lou, the boy in prom night.
- 49:21Just the way he looked, just not as big.
- 49:24Less unibrow also. They kill a pig.
- 49:27That's sad. And The thing is, the guy that
- 49:29plays like Billy here does such, he does this fucking stupid like
- 49:34little like dance before he swings.
- 49:37The this guy stinks. He is not a good actor.
- 49:42It's so bad. Why did they give this guy such
- 49:44a crucial character? I yeah, I and like, listen,
- 49:49Billy is supposed to be a psychopath and there are
- 49:51different ways to play a psychopath, but.
- 49:54John Travolta, he did it. He's got the RIZ, yeah.
- 49:58He does that's. Part of the thing with the
- 50:00psychopath is that a lot of times they are really charming
- 50:03to an extent. Yeah, but this guy is, like,
- 50:05cartoonish. Yeah.
- 50:07He does the thing where he just, like, stares off in a distance.
- 50:09And later, like, whenever he's like, let's go into town, Let's
- 50:11watch the fires. So it's just like, this is so
- 50:14stupid. It's so fucking dumb.
- 50:17OK, so yeah, they killed the pig.
- 50:21Now we get the cop combing. Through the White House.
- 50:26Yes, and he finds Carrie's empty yearbook.
- 50:30Nobody signed it. So sad.
- 50:33Is anybody shocked? No.
- 50:35No, I thought that there was going to be 1 signature, it was
- 50:37going to be Sue or something like that.
- 50:39But we don't even get a signature from Sue.
- 50:41Like it is just literally just her name.
- 50:43Sue, Sue Sue S. It's not even spelled right.
- 50:46Yeah. S 00.
- 50:49Sue, Sue. So mom sees the final dress and
- 50:56once again she's like, I can see your nipples.
- 50:58She's like, I can see your dirty pillows and we don't even get a
- 51:01like, they're all going to laugh at you.
- 51:04No, that moment is so iconic. I know.
- 51:06I don't know why you wouldn't want to pay kind of homage to
- 51:09it, which I guess they do. Like later when Carrie was like,
- 51:12they're laughing at me, They're all laughing at me.
- 51:14But yeah, it's too late. So mom tries to stop her, but
- 51:18Carrie Tella kicks her out. Yeah.
- 51:21And she like, walks her up or something.
- 51:22I don't fucking know. It's prom night, baby.
- 51:25Who cares because we got Carrie with stronger powers.
- 51:29Now she's just walking through the house doing all kinds of
- 51:32telekinetic shit. Well, she's stressed because
- 51:34Tommy is late. Oh, is that what it is?
- 51:36Yeah. Well, don't worry.
- 51:37Tommy arrives. He's there to pick her up.
- 51:39He's got a limo. Big shot Seal and fell down.
- 51:44Tommy wants to see. Carrie says no.
- 51:47I. Carrie's got to go to prom.
- 51:48Like I said, this is the most human he is in his interactions
- 51:52with her and I kind of am slightly endeared to him being
- 51:54like can I see? I know and like.
- 51:58Like I want to know what it looks like when the ceiling
- 52:00caves in. And like, why are you so casual
- 52:02about it? Why don't you have any plaster
- 52:04on you? Yeah.
- 52:06And they get into the the limo, but we see Missus White is off
- 52:11the side of the building just watching her.
- 52:14We head back to the detective, and he's telling Sue that
- 52:16basically the story from Jackie checks out.
- 52:20So she's cleared from any suspicion of what happened with
- 52:22Carrie. But he's like, I don't
- 52:25understand why you're not like more traumatized.
- 52:27And she's like, what am I supposed to be mourning forever?
- 52:31He's like, yeah, but it's been 2 weeks so you know, maybe a a
- 52:36little a little longer A. Little bit of emotion.
- 52:41So we see the arrival of Prom and everybody's complimenting
- 52:45Carrie. She's got a nice ass,
- 52:47apparently. Yeah, that's why.
- 52:48What's her face tells her? Helen, I think.
- 52:51Yeah, I don't know, but everybody's like giving her a
- 52:53looks because like, wow, she actually put herself together.
- 52:55Yeah, it's. Kind of nice her bang still
- 52:57looks shitty as hell, but. Well, it's the 2000s.
- 53:00Yeah, that is true. Yeah, they're probably popping
- 53:02back then I. Wonder if we're going to see a
- 53:05bunch of side bangs when I watch the 20131.
- 53:07I'm surprised at the lack of frosted tips in this one, right?
- 53:11You know, where are the crunchy curls and fried bangs?
- 53:15I guess that's more late 2000. Gelled up spiked air.
- 53:17I was part of that crowd. That was me.
- 53:21I'm just picturing the Dino nuggie boy from Wife Swap whose
- 53:24mom like spikes. His hair up.
- 53:27Yeah, dude, I had so much gel in my hair.
- 53:31There were times where I was like, there's like, a solid
- 53:33piece of gel still just, like, up there.
- 53:36Yeah. Not good.
- 53:38So they're, like, having a good time at prom, you know, She's
- 53:43still feeling a little bit uneasy.
- 53:44But like, the Tommy and his pal and his pals, they all are
- 53:49pretty accepting of Carrie. So they all sit at the table and
- 53:52they're having a good time. Yeah.
- 53:54He goes over to get her some punch.
- 53:55And while he is away, the teacher comes over to have a
- 53:58word with Carrie. And she tries to give her this
- 54:03serious talk. Like, I like what she said here.
- 54:05She's like, look, high school doesn't fucking matter.
- 54:07Like everything up until this point, like it's not going to
- 54:10matter for your life. Here's the thing.
- 54:14Good pep talk, wrong time. Because of prom.
- 54:17Yes. No, it's not even just because
- 54:19of prom, because like, Carrie's there and she's having a good
- 54:22time. It's like Mrs. Jordan is saying,
- 54:23like it's OK to have a good time, but like, this isn't
- 54:26actually important. Like this won't matter.
- 54:29No. I like Carrie, just enjoy her
- 54:31night and no. She was, but she's talking about
- 54:32how she hates high school and she's like, you know what?
- 54:34I hate high school too. But you know what?
- 54:36No, Mr. Jordan starts that conversation.
- 54:39I know, but Carrie's. Like, I know I'm not supposed to
- 54:41say it, but I kind of hate high school too.
- 54:43Like I. Wanted to be over just that's
- 54:45what I mean. Like Mr. Jardin is such a weird
- 54:47character to me because she's got moments where I'm like, this
- 54:50is a good pep talk, but like, also this is not the right thing
- 54:54to be saying. I guess yeah, like went.
- 54:57Back to the diplomas one where she is saying like, you know,
- 55:00like prom is a really special night for me.
- 55:02I had a lot of good times, but I had even better times after high
- 55:05school. I guess like that's the better
- 55:07version of this pep talk. Yeah, I suppose that's true.
- 55:10That's a better way to handle it.
- 55:13We also see Chris and Billy getting the bucket set up and
- 55:16Billy's telling Chris like once they announce it, pull the rope.
- 55:20Don't stay behind to see what happens.
- 55:21Just get out of there and if anybody catches you, my name
- 55:25stays out of your mouth bro. I'll kill you.
- 55:28We cut to some dancing. Also, but while away, the
- 55:33teacher went over to time and he's like, look, you better give
- 55:36her a fucking great time tonight or you're I'm going to kill you.
- 55:40Basically. Yeah.
- 55:41Yeah, Like your wife will be over with.
- 55:44And he he believes her. So he's like, all right, she's
- 55:47going to like, he feels forced to make her to go dance, even
- 55:51though Kerry doesn't really want to dance.
- 55:52He's like, look, we got to get up there.
- 55:54I'm going to, like die. So come on, let's go.
- 55:57And then it's time for voting for the prom king and queen, and
- 56:01Kerry's surprised to see their names on it.
- 56:03And then people at the table are encouraging her and they're
- 56:05saying yeah, the hell with false modesty.
- 56:08You know, I like, yeah, I, I don't know.
- 56:11It's back to the cop the cop is talking to.
- 56:14Norma. Norma like about the ballots and
- 56:18he's like, well, you know, actually the real winners were
- 56:20Frank and Jessica and she's like, that can't be.
- 56:23I counted the ballots and he's like you were given fake
- 56:26ballots. Whoa, nobody knew that was the
- 56:30thing. So what do you know?
- 56:33Carrie and Tommy win and they go up there.
- 56:37It's a big hole shebang. Yep, we we do.
- 56:43Cut briefly to Margaret sitting alone in the chaotically
- 56:47redecorated house that Carrie did while she thought Chris or
- 56:52not Chris. What's his name, Tommy.
- 56:56Tommy was standing her up. So they're up there.
- 56:59They're being asked to do their first stance.
- 57:02They take hands. Chris is holding on to the rope
- 57:05and it seems like she's choking. Tommy and Carrie dance and they
- 57:08kiss. Except that didn't actually
- 57:10happen. Twas a dream.
- 57:11Twas Twas her, imagining what would happen.
- 57:15Instead, as they take hands to go dance, she gets the blood all
- 57:21over her. And then the bucket falls and
- 57:23hits Tommy in the ad. And here's The thing is that at
- 57:26first, nobody's reacting, and Tommy looks like he's actually
- 57:29ready to kick some asses like you promised her.
- 57:31Yeah. It's a book.
- 57:32I need a book right now. Yeah, he's like, I'm going to
- 57:34actually kick some asses. Except Chris drops the rope and
- 57:38starts to run like she was told to.
- 57:39The bucket falls and knocks him out.
- 57:42And The thing is I don't understand.
- 57:43But like they go over to check on him and like he's not
- 57:45breathing. Like would that kill him?
- 57:46Like a bucket falling on his head.
- 57:48I mean, severe brain trauma can kill you.
- 57:50But that bucket isn't even that. It's metal and it fell from a
- 57:53great height. Don't overthink this right now.
- 57:55Yeah, fine. But The thing is, once they're
- 57:59like he's not breathing, then everybody starts laughing.
- 58:02It's like they're like, OK, we don't have to worry about Tommy.
- 58:03And also, we kind of hate that guy, right?
- 58:05Yeah. Kind of sucks now.
- 58:07Yeah, let's all laugh. Yeah, and Carrie snaps.
- 58:11This is her moment right here. She says fuck everyone, locks
- 58:15all the doors, nobody can escape.
- 58:17Here's the thing. Earlier in my notes when I first
- 58:19get to the prom, I wrote that these decorations violate all
- 58:22kinds of Fire Marshall codes, and this moment proves me
- 58:26correct things. Things catch on fire very
- 58:29quickly in this auditorium. Were there like a lot of like
- 58:31open flames around or something? No, just like decorations.
- 58:35Way too close to like the ceilings and sprinklers and just
- 58:38overwhelming the space and everything.
- 58:40Yeah, so she starts using her telekinesis and she starts a
- 58:43fire and people are trying to escape.
- 58:47We have a moment here where we have Tina who's trying to run
- 58:50out but Carrie says no fuck you in particular and takes a
- 58:53basketball goal and like swings it down Final Destination style
- 58:57to whack her to. Death.
- 58:58That could be a really cool death, but we didn't get enough.
- 59:01Catherine, Isabel. I know.
- 59:03Like we don't get emotional payoff from this moment.
- 59:05Yeah, I mean, it still feels kind of nice because she was
- 59:08mean enough, but like, it could have been so much more.
- 59:10Yeah, I just, I don't understand how you have such a long movie
- 59:15and develop the character so. Little I know.
- 59:18So then we also get a scoreboard that is starting to, like, fall
- 59:23down. There's water all over the
- 59:24floor. The teacher, yeah, she has
- 59:27opened up one of the vents and is getting students to crawl
- 59:30through. And then right as the scoreboard
- 59:33falls and starts to electrocute all of the kids on the gym
- 59:36floor. The sprinklers have gone off so
- 59:38the gym is like has a few inches needing water so basically
- 59:41everybody gets electrocuted by the scoreboard.
- 59:45So Carrie exits the building. We see Sue, who is at her house.
- 59:51She hears the sirens in the distance.
- 59:53So she's like, I got to go check that out.
- 59:54I guess she stays outside and sees the glow.
- 59:57And so she drives out. She makes it as far as the gas
- 59:59station. And there are some people there
- 1:00:01and they're like, oh, yeah, I know the gym went up in flames.
- 1:00:04And she's like, I got to go. And they're like, Nope, you're
- 1:00:06not going to be able to get anywhere near there.
- 1:00:08And then the gas pump starts shaking.
- 1:00:11Power lines start going down. And so we've got a power like a
- 1:00:16street light that falls down and it creates an explosion with all
- 1:00:19of the, like, gas that has come out of the pumps.
- 1:00:23And basically, Carrie is walking through town and Destruction is
- 1:00:26walking with her. Billy and Chris are driving out
- 1:00:30to watch the fires. I don't know where they're at,
- 1:00:34but like, they've had just had sex and they're sitting in the
- 1:00:37bed. They look mad and Jackie runs
- 1:00:39out and he's like, school's on fire, everybody's dead.
- 1:00:42Where are they at? The Jackie was just like there.
- 1:00:46Just downstairs. Yeah, I know.
- 1:00:48I don't fucking know, man. Like I'm confused.
- 1:00:52I think that he like keeps Jackie downstairs in the kennel
- 1:00:55or something. How'd you get out?
- 1:00:59Go on, get. So yeah, they decided.
- 1:01:02To go out and. Watch the fire, yeah.
- 1:01:04Let's go watch him. Yeah.
- 1:01:05OK, cool. OK, Edge edgy, so let's see.
- 1:01:10They, they're driving out and they see Kerry in the middle of
- 1:01:12the road and Billy's like excellent.
- 1:01:15And so he slams on the gas pedal.
- 1:01:17He's going to run her over and it just like crumples around
- 1:01:21her. It doesn't hurt her at all.
- 1:01:23And then she goes. Wraps him around.
- 1:01:26Yeah, just like a fucking tornado.
- 1:01:29So now she's home. She gets to the bathtub and
- 1:01:32draws herself a bath and gets in and she's just enjoying some
- 1:01:36bath time. And then Mama approaches.
- 1:01:38She tells mom and they all laughed at her, all sad.
- 1:01:42She said what did I do? She doesn't even understand.
- 1:01:44Like she knows something bad happened at the prom, but she
- 1:01:46can't remember anything that went down.
- 1:01:48Yeah, she's like, I'm covered in blood and I'm in the bathtub
- 1:01:51now. What happened?
- 1:01:54I don't remember what happened. Mama says you die.
- 1:01:58Yeah, she starts to drown her. And Harry pictures her heart.
- 1:02:03Here's the thing again, I don't remember exactly how it goes in
- 1:02:07the book, but I do feel like this is probably more accurate
- 1:02:11to how she killed Margaret. Is imagining, yes, imagining
- 1:02:14squeezing her heart the. Thing that really surprises me
- 1:02:17here is that like, she's able to hold her under long enough to
- 1:02:20actually like, successfully drown her.
- 1:02:22Like why I couldn't carry, just throw her telekinetically, you
- 1:02:26know? Why did Sue drive out to
- 1:02:28Carrie's house? That's another great.
- 1:02:30Question like we don't see enough development between the
- 1:02:34two of them. Like she feels bad.
- 1:02:36She shouldn't. Be this invested.
- 1:02:38Yeah, yeah. Like, yeah, like, like she made
- 1:02:41fun of her. Feel like an asshole.
- 1:02:43I'm going to give her a date. That's the extent of it.
- 1:02:45You feel like she probably could have washed her hands of
- 1:02:47everything at that point, but like, I did my job.
- 1:02:49Yeah, like, this is, it's weird because what she's about to do,
- 1:02:52the detective, you know, is like, did you see to Gary Carrie
- 1:02:57at the gas station or not? And she's like, I don't know, I
- 1:02:59saw a person in a dress as well. And she's like, besides, what do
- 1:03:02you care? Carrie and her mom are dead.
- 1:03:05They've been buried. And he's like, well, the body
- 1:03:06hasn't been identified yet. Don't, don't, don't.
- 1:03:10So yeah, yeah, she's at the house now.
- 1:03:12She goes in there and finds Carrie underwater, pulls her
- 1:03:15out, gives her not good CPR. Really bad CPR she just like you
- 1:03:19don't do a chest pump and go. She didn't even do a chest pump,
- 1:03:24she just pulled her out, pulled open her like lips and just like
- 1:03:27blew in her ear 2 times. Not even like well spaced apart
- 1:03:31like once. 10 seconds later, one more time.
- 1:03:34Successfully performed CPR carries back to life now.
- 1:03:37That's not how that works. Yeah, it's as is bad.
- 1:03:40They Yeah, She her life flashes before her eyes.
- 1:03:45Carries it is. And Sue's like we've got to go.
- 1:03:49So we now get the cop who is questioning the teacher and the
- 1:03:53teacher doesn't have any answers but.
- 1:03:55She says that it's unnatural. Whatever happened was something
- 1:03:59unnatural. She's like, she believes it was
- 1:04:01Carrie, but she can't really explain how.
- 1:04:05And it's like, I don't know, man, if you would have paid
- 1:04:07attention in the fucking principal's office when she
- 1:04:09moved in desk that one time, maybe you would be able to like,
- 1:04:14no, But no. We see Sue and Carrie sometime
- 1:04:19later are at mama's grave. She's wearing this really bad
- 1:04:24wig. Margaret White and Carrietta
- 1:04:26White, which was the reveal that her name is Carrietta, not
- 1:04:29Carrie. Carrietta really surprised me.
- 1:04:32You you were shocked. Carrietta.
- 1:04:33Is that in the book too? I don't remember.
- 1:04:35Carrietta is a weird name. I'm sorry for anybody out there
- 1:04:38named Carrietta. I've never heard it.
- 1:04:40I have not either. The closest I've got is
- 1:04:42Marietta, GA. Yeah, you're right.
- 1:04:45So Carrie's like, like they get in the car and we'll know
- 1:04:49whatever she's like. Look, you need to get out of
- 1:04:51town so. It's like I can drive you as far
- 1:04:52as Florida. What?
- 1:04:54Where are they from? Probably Maine, right?
- 1:04:55I don't know. Surely it's Maine.
- 1:04:58It's got to be Maine. That's a long way to drive from
- 1:05:00Maine. Yeah, I can drive you as far as
- 1:05:01Florida, OK, from the north of the country to the South of the
- 1:05:05country, that's pretty far. So you can probably take me to
- 1:05:07like California too then, right? Like we can go to like 1.
- 1:05:10Little further. Maybe.
- 1:05:11But like, we're going to the edge of the country either way,
- 1:05:14let's just fucking go there. And yeah, I mean, that's pretty.
- 1:05:19Much we get a dream within a dream within a dream because.
- 1:05:21Oh, right, because we have to have the jump scare.
- 1:05:24Yeah, because we think that Kerry's attacked by Margaret
- 1:05:26from the grave, but she's not really.
- 1:05:28But then she wakes up in the car and then she's being tired
- 1:05:30again, but she's not really. And they just drive to Florida.
- 1:05:35That's it. And that's where the TV show is
- 1:05:36going to pick up, I guess. I'm so glad that they didn't get
- 1:05:39picked up. Yeah, would have been so bad.
- 1:05:41How long would the episodes be you think?
- 1:05:43They said I read something that said Movie of the week and I
- 1:05:47don't. Movie.
- 1:05:48So there would be several movies, I guess.
- 1:05:50Oh, Lord, have mercy. No, OK, I'm not changing my
- 1:05:55score, man. This is a four for me.
- 1:05:56It's just not good. I yeah, I the more we talk about
- 1:06:00it, the more it's like it's. Boring do.
- 1:06:04Something, yes, make it shorter or do something more with your
- 1:06:08time. But you can't have a really long
- 1:06:10movie in two-dimensional characters.
- 1:06:13That just doesn't work. Like and The thing is, I know
- 1:06:15this is a good story, like it's so good, but it's just didn't
- 1:06:20execute it well at all. All.
- 1:06:22Right. I think I'm going to actually
- 1:06:24put mine down to a 4.5. OK, so new average 4.25.
- 1:06:28OK. Talia was pretty playful during
- 1:06:32the movie though, which is really impressive with how long
- 1:06:34the movie was. Well, she had to find ways to
- 1:06:36have fun. That's true.
- 1:06:38That's true. Yeah.
- 1:06:39So I guess. I don't know where she's leaning
- 1:06:44with this one, I think maybe like 5?
- 1:06:48Yeah, I think she like, it's right there in between for her.
- 1:06:50She was like, I would be prom queen, but I would be nice and
- 1:06:54everybody would be nice to me. And she would use her
- 1:06:57telekinesis for good. Good girl, good powers.
- 1:07:00Exactly, yes. What?
- 1:07:03Who is always Ultimate Warrior? Norma.
- 1:07:08Why? Because Norma's eating a bunch
- 1:07:10of Donuts. During the thing, Yeah.
- 1:07:13Why? Because the doughnuts were
- 1:07:15there, OK, and they were clearly meant to be Krispy Kreme, but
- 1:07:19they never actually say that they're Krispy Kreme.
- 1:07:21Can't. Because he keeps saying that
- 1:07:22they're not hot and we go through this every time.
- 1:07:25Hot and ready Is Little Caesars fresh?
- 1:07:27Nope. Whatever they're the they're the
- 1:07:30Krispy Kreme logo or. Yeah, yeah, they're crispy and
- 1:07:34the creamy. Yeah, that that's, that's all
- 1:07:36you really need to know about it all.
- 1:07:38Right, this is a hooter, a holler for Cordelia.
- 1:07:40I think this is another holler. I think so too.
- 1:07:43She's just like she came and watched a little bit with us,
- 1:07:46but most of the time she was just in the kitchen and chasing
- 1:07:48her tail. Because in her mind, she's like,
- 1:07:51wow, like bullies get. Bullies get what they want.
- 1:07:55Yeah, like you telling me if I bully like, I'm going to like
- 1:07:57get telekinesis to death. Seems fake.
- 1:08:01Yeah, this is not a real story. She has a little boy in this
- 1:08:06house, though. She takes on all of the cats.
- 1:08:08Zoe was in the litter box the other day and Cordelia was
- 1:08:11antagonizing her and I was like, that's just such a Dick move.
- 1:08:14She's she's getting a little bit too big for her britches.
- 1:08:16She's been pouncing on me here lately like she's like going to
- 1:08:20take me down. She tried to eat my hair while I
- 1:08:23was doing yoga. She's a bully.
- 1:08:26She is So yeah, she didn't like this movie at all, no.
- 1:08:30All right, do we have a new tagline?
- 1:08:35What would Freddie Prinze Junior do?
- 1:08:37Love it. Speaking of, what would Dominic
- 1:08:41Credo do? What would Dom do?
- 1:08:43I'm going to try and think of this in like a moment of like
- 1:08:45Dom versus Carrie, where it's like with what's his face
- 1:08:50driving at Carrie. I was just about to say so.
- 1:08:52It's everything plays out the same.
- 1:08:54Dom is a bully in this movie. I'm sorry, but he is.
- 1:08:57He killed a pig. Yeah, like that's just the thing
- 1:08:59that. Happened.
- 1:09:00Yeah. If you kill a pig, you're a
- 1:09:01bully. Yeah, and he's driving like you.
- 1:09:03Know a farmer I guess. There's humane ways to do it.
- 1:09:07I mean, I'm a vegan, so I'm still kind of.
- 1:09:10Yeah, it's not I don't you're up on that.
- 1:09:12I don't like it. I'm not up on it either.
- 1:09:14As somebody that eats meat, OK, I don't like I don't like read
- 1:09:18magazines on like the latest developments.
- 1:09:21But like, I think that like he drives at her, but he catches
- 1:09:26her off guard and hits the Nos and she thinks that he's just
- 1:09:30like going to arrive slower, but he's faster.
- 1:09:32So she's slower than Nos basically.
- 1:09:34Yeah, and he successfully takes her out and saves the day by
- 1:09:38destroying the evil that is terrorizing the town.
- 1:09:40OK, yeah. OK Now Dream sequel.
- 1:09:45So say this. Actually, they go on and get
- 1:09:47picked up and they're running down to Florida together.
- 1:09:50Kerry in Florida. So what?
- 1:09:51Kind of like mess are they gonna get into down there?
- 1:09:56They're going to Jacksonville. I can just feel it.
- 1:10:02I want Carrie to, I want it to completely change tones.
- 1:10:09It's not horror. She just becomes like a
- 1:10:12Floridian. But first, she has like a spring
- 1:10:16break experience down there. Oh, so she gets to like, she
- 1:10:21takes the advice that the teacher says.
- 1:10:23She's like, yeah, she could. She's like, look, you can go and
- 1:10:27live on a whole new life after high school.
- 1:10:29Like, you can take the things that you like about yourself and
- 1:10:32leave the things that you don't like.
- 1:10:33So she's like, OK, I like that. I like to party.
- 1:10:36So she goes down there and, like, parties for spring break.
- 1:10:39And there's some Mean Girls at spring break down there,
- 1:10:42Shirley. And you know what?
- 1:10:44She's just going to have to teach them a lesson.
- 1:10:45Weird spring break tragedies that keep happening, yeah.
- 1:10:50OK, there we go. I like that all.
- 1:10:52Right, you said that you went to an alternate place to find a
- 1:10:56review because IMDb was also trying to make you make an
- 1:10:59account. It's a thing that we.
- 1:11:00Will not give in. I am not, no.
- 1:11:02If I have to pull reviews from other sources I will, so I did.
- 1:11:07I got a review from Reddit, the Stephen King subreddit.
- 1:11:12Somebody made a post saying Kerry 2002 doesn't get enough
- 1:11:15credit, so here's what they say. OK, so we all know how good
- 1:11:21Kerry 1976 is. It's a horror masterpiece and a
- 1:11:24terrific adaptation of King's book that retains just enough of
- 1:11:27the book to keep the story intact.
- 1:11:29But I have to say the 2002 TV version is the most faithful
- 1:11:32adaptation that gets overlooked too much.
- 1:11:36Despite it's a glaring made for TV quality, I still think it
- 1:11:39holds up as a decent movie. Some of the writing and acting
- 1:11:42is atrocious, but I do think Angela Bettis killed it as
- 1:11:46Carrie despite looking 30. I wonder how old she actually
- 1:11:49was in this. You looking it up?
- 1:11:51Yeah, I'll look it up. OK, it's the only version that
- 1:11:54shows the reign of stones and the town destruction, so that's
- 1:11:57where I got the confirmation that apparently it happens.
- 1:11:58And I guess you, well, I I think the other one showed the town
- 1:12:02destruction too. Maybe not.
- 1:12:05Which are such interesting parts of the story.
- 1:12:07And I like how it tries to follow the epist.
- 1:12:10Yeah. She was 29.
- 1:12:11Wow OK, pretty young looking for a 29.
- 1:12:16Year old. Yeah, actually.
- 1:12:19All right, And I like how it tries to follow the style of the
- 1:12:21book by including police interviews with the survivors.
- 1:12:24OK, I guess so was the thing. Yeah, like I said, I remember
- 1:12:27newspaper articles. I don't remember the police
- 1:12:29interviews. But boy, I'm going to look at
- 1:12:30it. It's been like. 16 years since I
- 1:12:31read it so. I've never read the book.
- 1:12:33I I didn't. I didn't care for that edition.
- 1:12:36There were things from the book I guess I just don't really care
- 1:12:38for because I don't like the meteors either.
- 1:12:41The only thing I don't like is how Carrie lives at the end.
- 1:12:43And thank God they didn't turn it into a Hulk style series with
- 1:12:46Carrie going around saving people like they had originally
- 1:12:49planned. We shall not talk about the 2013
- 1:12:52movie. So was that the plan that they
- 1:12:56were going to like just have her like save the day by like going
- 1:12:59Carrie Rage and just like? Maybe, I guess cuz Bryan Fuller
- 1:13:04liked her as a character, he didn't want to kill her to make
- 1:13:07her the bad guy. That sounds terrible.
- 1:13:10I'm so glad that that didn't happen.
- 1:13:11No, like I would have watched it.
- 1:13:13I don't know if anybody would have wanted that.
- 1:13:14I guess you could have had that, but I would have not watched
- 1:13:17that. I don't like look, I like I I
- 1:13:20get it. Like it's probably like faithful
- 1:13:22to the book in some ways, you know, and that's cool.
- 1:13:26But like, I don't know, like I like, I can't really speak to
- 1:13:30that because I don't. Things that, like you can be
- 1:13:33faithful to the book without capturing everything that's in
- 1:13:36the book because we don't get a lot of the character development
- 1:13:39that we need to care about these interactions between characters.
- 1:13:42I felt, I think I like, I remember feeling it like more in
- 1:13:47the original movie whenever that shit happened to Carrie because
- 1:13:50of just the way that everything was developed and the portrayals
- 1:13:53and the acting. It was just, it's, it's so much
- 1:13:56better. The The Hunger Games
- 1:13:57adaptations, the very first movie adapts a lot of the events
- 1:14:01that happen, but you don't get enough of the character
- 1:14:06development that goes into it, to the point where you and I had
- 1:14:09different experiences watching the movie because I'd read the
- 1:14:12books. Yeah, they explained so many
- 1:14:13things like Peter to me. And I had to explain a ton of
- 1:14:16things to you. And I think if you have to read
- 1:14:18the book to understand the movie, it's just, I'm sorry,
- 1:14:20it's just not a good movie. It needs to be able to stand on
- 1:14:23its own. And it's one of those things.
- 1:14:25And I know that I've said like, I have a hard time separating
- 1:14:27the books from the movies. And that's not because I expect
- 1:14:29the movie to be exactly like the book is.
- 1:14:30Because I read a book, I imagine it one way in my head, and if
- 1:14:34it's too fresh when I go to watch the movie I have a hard
- 1:14:37time picturing like it's. Kind of what happened with
- 1:14:40Christine. With me too, yeah.
- 1:14:42You know, like I had just read that book and then we watched it
- 1:14:45together after you had just read it too.
- 1:14:46And then? We didn't even see the fucking
- 1:14:49house get destroyed by the. Car and we're still upset about.
- 1:14:51It days since we were. Thinking about this, we need to
- 1:14:55actually have that on the the white board over there.
- 1:14:59But ultimately there are different mediums for telling a
- 1:15:04story and you have to do them in different ways.
- 1:15:06And that's The thing is that with diplomas, he captures those
- 1:15:10relationships so much better without including all of the
- 1:15:13same exact events and beats of the story.
- 1:15:15It's a tighter story, too. Yeah.
- 1:15:17So I just. I appreciate it not having the
- 1:15:19cop interviews. I don't.
- 1:15:20I don't think the cop interviews add anything to the story at
- 1:15:23all. Not the way they're done anyway.
- 1:15:26And like. And that's The thing is that if
- 1:15:28you've read the book and you want to see a faithful
- 1:15:30adaptation, you can fill in those gaps for yourself and
- 1:15:33that's what you want. That's good, that's great.
- 1:15:36But it should be able to stand on its own as well.
- 1:15:39Like you shouldn't need to do supplemental reading for it.
- 1:15:41I agree. OK, well then that does it for
- 1:15:45that. I don't have any listener
- 1:15:48reviews for this. All right, well, next week we
