- speaker-0: Why do people freak out when you say, well, I you know, I'm just gonna I'm just gonna go find a blacksmith and I'm just gonna just sit under them and learn and and it's like people lose their mind. Why? Because we've been trained to think that collectivist government socialized systems is what's gonna bring about human flourishing and liberty. Do everything you can to do things together as a family. Cause your children will learn far more working alongside you than by sitting their rear end down for four hours a day and hearing lectures. Yeah. ⁓ I don't know if that helps. speaker-1: It's completely helpful. And it's it's the message that we have here because the reality is is I mean, I always say with a little boy, you sit him down at five years old at a desk and the only thing he's gonna be focusing on on all day is how to hold still because they're not made to do that. They're not created to do that, right? And so then we have to drug them in order to keep them to sit there because that's not how they're designed. ⁓ Yeah. And so the reality is is it that You are a perfect example of it's it's the doing life. It's homeschool. It's it's not school at home. It's life, it's home, it's being with our kids, it's it's doing with our kids. But the culture doesn't like that. My daughter who just graduated, she's looking into being a midwife. And people say, ⁓ so a nurse midwife, which means you go to a four-year college, you get your nursing degree, and then you'll be a midwife. And she says, No. ⁓ that's actually what I'm trying to avoid, actually, is the medical system. What I'd like to do. And and so the route she takes is an apprenticeship and and people lose their mind, Seth. They lose their mind when they think, wait, you're not gonna go sit at a university. You're literally gonna learn this trade and become certified just by watching women do it and being in their presence doing it. People lose their mind when we talk about this. They lose their mind when we break free from, you know, these systems that they've created to keep us in their boxes. speaker-0: Yeah, well, I mean, that's just the same tension between individualism and collectivism. Right. ⁓ right, which ⁓ William F. Buckley in his ⁓ it's somewhere here behind me. I think it's that blue one right there, ⁓ God and Man at Yale, the the the ⁓ statement i in in and it's like three hundred page book. The only statement that got him in such big trouble that everyone hated him was, and I'm trying to remember how he said it. I think he said, I believe that the greatest struggle ⁓ facing the world right now is the battle between atheism and Christianity. ⁓ however, I also believe that the struggle between individualism and collectivism is the same struggle, reproduced on another level. ⁓ and so in other words, he indicted all the collectivist big government libs as being the same side of of the atheist coin. ⁓ And that was what got him in such big trouble, because there were all these all these, you know, ⁓ cultural Christians who were like, I'm a I'm a Christian, but they were total freaking libs. Totally. And and he said, you know what, the struggle between atheism and Christianity is the same struggle between individualism and collectivism. And that's what and then then people were like, ⁓ they started manifesting rainbow demons. They're like, How dare you say that? But that's the same thing that you're saying right now. Why do people freak out when you say, Well, I ⁓ you know, I'm just gonna I'm just gonna go find a blacksmith, you know, I'm just gonna go find a you know, ⁓ a guy who ⁓ works in leather. You know, I'm I'm just gonna go find a a doctor, midwife. I'm just gonna go find a lawyer, ⁓ and I'm just gonna just sit under them and learn. And and it's like people lose their mind. Why? Because we've been trained to think that collectivist government socialized systems is what's gonna bring about human flourishing and liberty. And but of course it's not. And my proof for that is I don't know every single failed socialist regime. Okay. ⁓ the s socialism, collectivism, has always been an enemy of liberty and it's always been an enemy of being human because we were not made to function that way. We were meant to put our hands in the dirt and exercise dominion and learn to make the things that the Lord made flourish even greater, which is the original commandment given to the first humans ever. It's called the Dominion Mandate. It could be called the the the the first human's job description. And it's repeated to NOAA after the fall, which means that even though we screwed up, we're still called to fulfill the Dominion Mandate. Totally. ⁓ but but the Dominion Mandate ⁓ assumes familial, covenantal responsibility and succession. ⁓ but you can't have both. You can't have familial, covenantal succession and responsibility, and also have socialistic AOC Bernie Sanders collectivism. Totally. It's always going to be one or the other. And so those have always been at odds with one another. ⁓ and I think maybe the whole homeschooling ⁓ debate brings that struggle to the surface unl ⁓ like few other things in the twenty-first century. speaker-2: This episode of Homeschool Insights is brought to you by BJU Press Homeschool, CTC Math, and the Explorer Bible for Kids.
