- 0:08Speaker 1: Welcome to the Favorites, the podcast from the Volume Podcast Network.
- 0:14Speaker 1: It's Thursday. That means it's time to enter the Thursday Thunderdome.
- 0:25Speaker 1: On today's show, our special guests will compete alongside my
- 0:31Speaker 1: co host, my bff, my companion Professional Sports Better Simon Hunter,
- 0:37Speaker 1: in an epic test of wagers and wits that's quickly
- 0:42Speaker 1: made this show the most anticipated thirty ish minutes of
- 0:46Speaker 1: the entire sports gambling weekly media landscape. Simon Man, Simon,
- 0:57Speaker 1: you're a Sixers fan. Sixers played the Hawks last night
- 1:00Speaker 1: recording this on Thursday, and they gave up, uh, pretty
- 1:04Speaker 1: massively lost the game. Now we're losing the series and
- 1:06Speaker 1: would looked like what could have been a pretty less
- 1:10Speaker 1: than challenging romp to the finals that might not even
- 1:14Speaker 1: get out of this round. I was there. Yeah, I
- 1:17Speaker 1: don't put my business on Twitter because I hate being
- 1:20Speaker 1: that fan that's like just complaining about their life and
- 1:23Speaker 1: about their fandom. But I mainly didn't go on Twitter
- 1:25Speaker 1: because I went on for one second to say something
- 1:28Speaker 1: and all it was was never any memes about the
- 1:31Speaker 1: Sixers and how we're a joke. I don't know, man,
- 1:33Speaker 1: I was gonna ask you, is that like, what is
- 1:36Speaker 1: your worst in person memory for sports? Like I that's
- 1:40Speaker 1: the lowest I've felt since. We were talking to Tiki
- 1:44Speaker 1: Barber about his brother pick sixing the Eagles. I was
- 1:47Speaker 1: at the Buccaneers game. It was twenty degrees freezing his
- 1:50Speaker 1: brother pick six. That was the end of the Eagles run,
- 1:53Speaker 1: pretty much with Andy Reid, and I think, honestly, until
- 1:56Speaker 1: that point the quiet thing was brutal. But that quast
- 1:58Speaker 1: shot was so amazing that I honestly wasn't even that
- 2:01Speaker 1: upset about it. And I wasn't there in person like
- 2:03Speaker 1: for this. I was in person. I said it to
- 2:06Speaker 1: my buddy. It was I think they're on a fifty
- 2:08Speaker 1: to two run Atlanta, And I said to my buddy,
- 2:10Speaker 1: we have to take Atlant alive right now because we
- 2:12Speaker 1: had way too much money. Um. Basically, the night before
- 2:15Speaker 1: me and him had money lined the nets at halftime
- 2:18Speaker 1: with the Sixers. So I had the nets plus like
- 2:21Speaker 1: to fifty or plus two sixty money lined with the
- 2:23Speaker 1: Sixers money line. So I told him, let's hedge like Atlanta,
- 2:26Speaker 1: Mike come back and win this game. So we hedged
- 2:28Speaker 1: at plus two fifty plus two forty. The woman sit
- 2:31Speaker 1: in front of us, hedged with like bet with us.
- 2:33Speaker 1: She'd be like, I'll bet with you, guys, like like
- 2:35Speaker 1: I don't think we're gonna win either, And know that
- 2:38Speaker 1: you could just feel as soon as the fourth quarter started,
- 2:41Speaker 1: no one was breathing. There was literally no air in
- 2:43Speaker 1: the entire arena. Everyone could like feel the tension. No
- 2:46Speaker 1: one was talking, you know, like there was that one
- 2:49Speaker 1: asshole guy near me that the whole game was just
- 2:51Speaker 1: like Ben Simmons, you suck, dude. We know Ben Simmons
- 2:55Speaker 1: sucks every Sixers fan there Again, I don't want to
- 2:57Speaker 1: freak out on this podcast chat. I'm trying to hold
- 2:59Speaker 1: it in. I was like literally dying inside, just the
- 3:03Speaker 1: slowest death of ever experienced. You won't be surprised to
- 3:06Speaker 1: learn that that level of pain as an experience for
- 3:10Speaker 1: me has happened twice in person, both times involving my
- 3:16Speaker 1: beloved Chicago Bears. Nineteen eighty six or eighty seven, I
- 3:21Speaker 1: forget which year they played the Niners in the NFC
- 3:24Speaker 1: title game, and they were probably heavy favorites. It was
- 3:28Speaker 1: at home. It was forty below, no joke, I was
- 3:32Speaker 1: at the game. They lost twenty seven or nothing to
- 3:34Speaker 1: the Niners. That was excruciating. And then the Bears in
- 3:37Speaker 1: the Super Bowl against the Colts the Prince halftime show,
- 3:40Speaker 1: Devin Hester runs a touchdown, returns a opening kickoff for
- 3:44Speaker 1: a touchdown. They went on to squander the lead. They
- 3:47Speaker 1: lost to Peyton Manning in the rain. Horrible game plan,
- 3:51Speaker 1: remember every second of it. Also missed the Prince halftime
- 3:54Speaker 1: show because I was called and my buddy and I
- 3:58Speaker 1: went into the concession to get out of the rain
- 4:01Speaker 1: for fifteen minutes. So gut wrenching on every level. Today,
- 4:06Speaker 1: Simon d we have arranged a special rematch for you.
- 4:13Speaker 1: We are taking it back to March eighteen. Are very
- 4:17Speaker 1: first Thunderdome episode. That means you're no stranger to this
- 4:21Speaker 1: first challenger, and he is no stranger to the world
- 4:24Speaker 1: of sports betting. One of the most unabashedly enthusiastic betters
- 4:27Speaker 1: on the West Coast and one of our esteemed colleagues
- 4:30Speaker 1: at the Volume podcast Network, a return Thunderdome challenger and
- 4:34Speaker 1: the host of the Sports Gambling with Money Line Monico podcast.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Alex Monico, what an intro chad. I'm ready to run
- 4:43Speaker 1: through a Bear's wall right now, baby. Thank you for
- 4:47Speaker 1: the for the hype up. I'm ready to dance. I
- 4:49Speaker 1: I was telling them I had the six years yesterday.
- 4:52Speaker 1: So I'm struggling as well, not a personal level, but
- 4:55Speaker 1: in my pocket. And it's one of those losses you get,
- 4:58Speaker 1: you get a haircut, you trim the cosmo, you start
- 5:00Speaker 1: all over. So thank you for jamming with me the
- 5:02Speaker 1: last two hours of the throw and Mike, I'm either
- 5:04Speaker 1: going out with the hair on a win or a loss.
- 5:06Speaker 1: I'm in the six foot club for two more hours.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Let's enjoy it. Signon your second. Challenger was last seen
- 5:13Speaker 1: here wiping the floor with both you and Monaco on
- 5:16Speaker 1: his way to a decisive Thunderdome victory. One of the
- 5:20Speaker 1: most beloved handicappers here at the Action Network, the heartbeat
- 5:23Speaker 1: of our college football coverage, the pride of Razorback Nation.
- 5:27Speaker 1: I can't believe he's gotten out of bed after the
- 5:28Speaker 1: Razorbacks crushing College World Series playoff. Lost a man just
- 5:32Speaker 1: two weeks away from his second and final wedding, sporting
- 5:37Speaker 1: the mohawk. Lucky in love, Mr Colin Wilson, my brother.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Thank you for having me on. Guys, trust me, I
- 5:45Speaker 1: know having bad sports teams break your heart is a
- 5:48Speaker 1: lifelong Razor fan and alumni and a lifelong Royals fan. Uh.
- 5:54Speaker 1: The only time I've cried in my entire life, my
- 5:56Speaker 1: entire life, when my two sons were born, and when
- 6:00Speaker 1: Madison Bumbarn Garner came out of the bullpen of the
- 6:03Speaker 1: World Series and shucker Royals down in Game seven. So
- 6:05Speaker 1: I know what it's like to be deflated. And yes,
- 6:09Speaker 1: I am getting married after being single for the last
- 6:11Speaker 1: ten years. I am once again throwing myself into the world.
- 6:16Speaker 1: The biggest gamble of man could ever make. Not even
- 6:19Speaker 1: throwing money over the counter, You're throwing money over a
- 6:21Speaker 1: different counter, the biggest gamble you could ever make. Dude,
- 6:24Speaker 1: let me tell you something. You know. I love love,
- 6:27Speaker 1: so I'm super all in on you getting married. Number
- 6:31Speaker 1: two completely agree with you. Getting married is the biggest
- 6:36Speaker 1: risk you can take. The biggest gamble you can take
- 6:40Speaker 1: is getting married, because that is a life defining, life
- 6:45Speaker 1: changing moment where every single second of your day can
- 6:50Speaker 1: be determined by your partner. Yeah. Absolutely, you have to. Uh,
- 6:56Speaker 1: and you have to. I mean you think trying to
- 6:59Speaker 1: hedge a sick serves game, trying to get both sides
- 7:01Speaker 1: of a total or a side is like for three hours,
- 7:04Speaker 1: you're sweating that. Every day you wake up, you're trying
- 7:07Speaker 1: to get both sides of the of the ticket with
- 7:09Speaker 1: your wife, right, I mean between the food and the
- 7:13Speaker 1: kids in the lawn and the two dudes, and you
- 7:15Speaker 1: got your job, and you're always hedging a ticket every
- 7:17Speaker 1: day you wake up in a marriage. I can't wait.
- 7:19Speaker 1: I love it well that that bodes well for Simon
- 7:23Speaker 1: and uh, I assume Monica is not dating anyone. I
- 7:26Speaker 1: don't know who date that guy. But uh. Also, the
- 7:29Speaker 1: only two times I've ever cried the movies Meet Joe
- 7:32Speaker 1: Black and Titanic. I found those performances in both movies
- 7:36Speaker 1: to be, you know, emotional. It's a beautiful movie. Brad
- 7:40Speaker 1: Pitt is a beautiful, beautiful man. Here we go, ye
- 7:43Speaker 1: to give it to Brad pittcause Benjamin Button almost did
- 7:45Speaker 1: the same thing to me. He's an amazing actor. He
- 7:47Speaker 1: deserves the Oscar that he's gotten. He deserves Springfield, Missouri
- 7:50Speaker 1: from Kickapoo High School, Great Great State Missouri. Here's how
- 7:55Speaker 1: today's game is played. You'll answer two kinds of questions,
- 7:58Speaker 1: traditional trivia questions about sport at sports betting in the
- 8:00Speaker 1: world at large, also completely subjective and totally assinine open
- 8:04Speaker 1: ended questions or prompts that I alone will judge. Since
- 8:09Speaker 1: you've both been on the show, you now know that
- 8:11Speaker 1: I will most definitely favor Mr Simon Hunter. To accumulate points,
- 8:16Speaker 1: you must answer the trivia questions correctly and also convinced
- 8:20Speaker 1: me that your responses to those open ended prompts are
- 8:23Speaker 1: better than the responses from your opponents. Let's begin Part one.
- 8:28Speaker 1: I love this, I love this theme right here. Today
- 8:31Speaker 1: is a special day for sports fans across Western New York,
- 8:35Speaker 1: the ancestral home region of our producer Matt Mitchell. That
- 8:40Speaker 1: is because Josh Allen, quarterback of the Buffalo Bill's Savior
- 8:44Speaker 1: of Bills Football, will be throwing out the first pitch
- 8:46Speaker 1: at the Toronto Blue Jays game tonight, which will be
- 8:48Speaker 1: played in downtown Buffalo thanks to the Jay's ongoing pandemic
- 8:53Speaker 1: Canadian travel restrictions. Buffalo is the largest city in a
- 8:57Speaker 1: regional utopia, famous the world over not only for its
- 9:01Speaker 1: handsome but relatable natives, but also for its enormous cultural impacts.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Let's discuss a few simon one of Western New York's
- 9:11Speaker 1: most enduring cultural contributions. Is this well known dessert brand
- 9:17Speaker 1: born in Larroy, New York. In Its original five flavors
- 9:24Speaker 1: were strawberry, raspberry, orange, lemon, and lime, and brand spokespeople
- 9:31Speaker 1: have included Jack Benny, Lucille Ball, and most famously Philadelphia
- 9:37Speaker 1: native Bill Cosby. What is this well known dessert brand
- 9:45Speaker 1: I've no included? Is that put you to sleep? Though?
- 9:48Speaker 1: Oh dude, you don't hear too many Bill Cosby jokes anymore,
- 9:52Speaker 1: so I had to make oney now, Oh you hear
- 9:54Speaker 1: is Bill Cosby jokes. It's like he's gone from being
- 9:57Speaker 1: the best at punch lines to the ultimate punch line.
- 10:00Speaker 1: And I think you did a pretty good job on
- 10:01Speaker 1: that one. The answer is jello. God see like three
- 10:08Speaker 1: mustard tea or something something Weirdea, this goes back to age.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Anybody that is around our age had the pudding pop
- 10:14Speaker 1: commercials in the late eighties and the early nineties. Yes,
- 10:18Speaker 1: when I was reading this, this this question, Colin, I
- 10:21Speaker 1: was thinking, you got to get the pudding Pope, Jello pudding,
- 10:27Speaker 1: pops Cello, pudding pops ros putting on a stick. Yeah,
- 10:31Speaker 1: it always gets the green light from mom because it's
- 10:34Speaker 1: made with real pudding. Alex. Few people know Rochester, New York,
- 10:40Speaker 1: is the home of an NBA champion, but it's true.
- 10:43Speaker 1: The Rochester Royals won the nineteen fifty one titled before
- 10:46Speaker 1: the franchise moved to Cincinnati, and then Kansas City, and
- 10:48Speaker 1: then finally this California city where they played since with
- 10:54Speaker 1: very little success. I'll go with Sacramento. Sacramentos wrecked. You
- 11:00Speaker 1: did it right, buddy, Colin. Buffalo, New York was the
- 11:04Speaker 1: first US city to widely use street lights, earning the
- 11:07Speaker 1: nickname the City of Light, thanks almost exclusively to this
- 11:12Speaker 1: nearby landmark well. I would say Silent Field, where the
- 11:17Speaker 1: Toronto Blue Jays play their Triple A games, but I'm
- 11:19Speaker 1: not gonna go there because I'm all obsessed with perk
- 11:21Speaker 1: factors and Volagaro Junior hitting home runs. I'll go with
- 11:24Speaker 1: Niagara Falls. Niagara Falls. Colin, You're an amazing contestant. I
- 11:30Speaker 1: kind of think I might want you to win your chat.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Remember you're the pack tall referee. This is going to Simon,
- 11:36Speaker 1: That's true. It always goes to Simon until Simon decides
- 11:40Speaker 1: to go all in on the last question and gets
- 11:42Speaker 1: it wrong and there's nothing we can do. Part one prompt,
- 11:45Speaker 1: are you guys ready? In the recorded history of Niagara Falls,
- 11:48Speaker 1: only five people have survived and unassisted swim over the
- 11:52Speaker 1: falls and the resulting one hundred and sixty seven foot plunge.
- 11:57Speaker 1: You had to bet on any living athlete to survive
- 12:01Speaker 1: a swim over Niagara Falls. Who would you choose? And
- 12:04Speaker 1: why Simon, you're up first? I mean, there's only one answer.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Ray Lewis. Every time he hit someone, it's like surviving
- 12:10Speaker 1: a car crash opposably. So if there's anyone that can
- 12:12Speaker 1: serve the impact of hitting the Niagara Falls, it's gonna
- 12:15Speaker 1: be ray Lewis. This man literally lives for impact. That's
- 12:18Speaker 1: all he wants is impact. So give me ray Lewis.
- 12:21Speaker 1: That man does not break. And here I thought when
- 12:23Speaker 1: you said ray Lewis, you were going to make some
- 12:25Speaker 1: kind of murder joke and then you were going to
- 12:27Speaker 1: do it in the mayor of East Town accent murder
- 12:32Speaker 1: dir or I need some murder. I'd be careful what
- 12:34Speaker 1: you said, Chad. He's got addresses. He'll find you. Colin,
- 12:38Speaker 1: let's go ahead and review and think about people that
- 12:41Speaker 1: have actually jumped off of Niagara Falls, because you know
- 12:44Speaker 1: it was in Superman to Lois Lane, jumped over. She
- 12:46Speaker 1: wanted to prove his Superman was Clark kent with Superman
- 12:49Speaker 1: and he turned into so he jumped in himself. Whatever.
- 12:51Speaker 1: I try to think of like an athlete, like who's
- 12:53Speaker 1: strong enough, who's fast enough, who could swim out? But
- 12:57Speaker 1: why am I overthinking this? The only people that have
- 12:59Speaker 1: ever survived this, I mean almost everybody dies. The people
- 13:02Speaker 1: that have survived this went over in an oak cask.
- 13:05Speaker 1: First was in nineteen oh one. It was a lady
- 13:08Speaker 1: named Annie Edson Taylor. In nineteen o one went over
- 13:11Speaker 1: in an oak cask, came out with no injuries. A
- 13:14Speaker 1: little bit of bleeding, but no injuries whatsoever. So what
- 13:17Speaker 1: famous athlete knows an oak cask? Well, I want to
- 13:21Speaker 1: go with Matthew McConaughey because he loves Wild Turkey and
- 13:24Speaker 1: he's supporting that brand like crazy. But he doesn't play
- 13:26Speaker 1: any sports. He just shows up at Texas Long Worn
- 13:28Speaker 1: games and does his little fingers. So I gotta go
- 13:30Speaker 1: with David Beckham. David Beckham owns Head Club that is
- 13:34Speaker 1: the official whiskey of Inter Miami and Major League Soccer.
- 13:38Speaker 1: David Beckham is your answer. I love your logic, Why
- 13:42Speaker 1: wouldn't you go with Connor McGregor. He doesn't Actually, I
- 13:46Speaker 1: think he's just a spokesman. I've actually seen pictures of
- 13:49Speaker 1: David Beckham next to these casks. He knows his way
- 13:51Speaker 1: around the barrel a lot longer than Connor McGregor does.
- 13:54Speaker 1: I like your theory. I would also think that maybe
- 13:58Speaker 1: going with the Oaken theme, I would go with Anthony Thompson,
- 14:03Speaker 1: the greatest running back in the history of Indiana University,
- 14:06Speaker 1: who played for the old Oaken bucket against Purdue every
- 14:10Speaker 1: single year. Alex, your answer, I don't know how you
- 14:14Speaker 1: topp that that that backing by he calling his road
- 14:18Speaker 1: an essay with backup stores? Is I actually am going
- 14:21Speaker 1: to complete castanza opposite? I read a story about how
- 14:25Speaker 1: Lebron James saved Carmelo Anthony from a current on the
- 14:29Speaker 1: Banana Boat Famous Vacation, said to myself, under crisis, this
- 14:35Speaker 1: man the chosen one who I'm gonna say, Look, if
- 14:39Speaker 1: he takes the fall and he gets hurt, he could
- 14:41Speaker 1: be just doing it for the ref's whistle. I'm gonna
- 14:44Speaker 1: take Lebron James under all adversity to land the plunge
- 14:49Speaker 1: and save himself, whether he hurts himself or he's faking. Wow,
- 14:52Speaker 1: that's pretty interesting too, that's a third rationale. But hey,
- 14:57Speaker 1: I'm gonna go with Colin because I feel ach the
- 15:00Speaker 1: Oaken bucket, the Oaken cask, the thinking about the next
- 15:05Speaker 1: level of research and data here puts him over the top,
- 15:07Speaker 1: which is not unlike how Colin lives his life. So
- 15:10Speaker 1: Colin wins the prompt onto Part two, The Reality of Sports.
- 15:16Speaker 1: My co host and my best friend, Simon Hunter is
- 15:19Speaker 1: both a big sports fan and a seasoned veteran in
- 15:22Speaker 1: the world of reality TV, so now is the perfect
- 15:25Speaker 1: time to discuss the illustrious intersection of famous athletes and
- 15:29Speaker 1: reality television. Simon arguably the best rebounding forward in NBA history.
- 15:35Speaker 1: This two thousand eleven Basketball Hall of Famer was also
- 15:41Speaker 1: an early reality TV star. He had his own MTV
- 15:44Speaker 1: reality talk show in on the Grand Prize on the
- 15:47Speaker 1: ABC's The Mole in two thousand and four, and appeared
- 15:51Speaker 1: on Celebrity Big Brother, Celebrity Apprentice, and more. Who is
- 15:56Speaker 1: this reality TV star, Basketball Hall of Famer, amazing rebounder worm?
- 16:03Speaker 1: You nailed it, Dennis Rodman, And before we move on,
- 16:07Speaker 1: I was just gonna say, I'm starting to realize here
- 16:09Speaker 1: that I'm like to Aaron Rodgers like the NFC, and
- 16:12Speaker 1: Colin is the Tom Brady. He comes here just for
- 16:15Speaker 1: one season, he wins the show. I've been here for months,
- 16:18Speaker 1: I've only won once, and he's already just steamer along
- 16:21Speaker 1: that I can't take him. Man, Colin, You're way too
- 16:23Speaker 1: good at this. Dude was supposed to be in my
- 16:25Speaker 1: off season. I'm supposed to be getting some hybernation sleep
- 16:27Speaker 1: for college football starts. But you know, here we are.
- 16:29Speaker 1: We got you know what, Simon, I would give you
- 16:32Speaker 1: an extra half point for that. Thank you. Alex. Although
- 16:36Speaker 1: he's a Canadian who played quarterback for the University of
- 16:39Speaker 1: Florida and the New York Giants, his current ESPN College
- 16:42Speaker 1: Football analysts is still best known for being the Bachelor
- 16:45Speaker 1: on season five of The Bachelor back in two thousand four.
- 16:49Speaker 1: I don't know if I'm embarrassed to get this correct
- 16:51Speaker 1: or or not. I'm gonna go with Jesse Palmer. Yeah,
- 16:54Speaker 1: you should be proud. You're right, That's exactly what you
- 16:58Speaker 1: should feel. You nail this for two. We came back
- 17:02Speaker 1: with a vengeance, Colin finishing fourth place on Celebrity Apprentice
- 17:06Speaker 1: in two thousand eight was certainly not the career highlight
- 17:09Speaker 1: for this British boxer who defeated both Evander holy Field
- 17:13Speaker 1: and Mike Tyson and who remains the last undisputed heavyweight
- 17:17Speaker 1: champion of the world. Yeah, he's called rio chicken bow.
- 17:21Speaker 1: You're a chicken bow. It's Lennox Lewis right, a hundred percent.
- 17:26Speaker 1: I feel like Colin wins this because he and I
- 17:28Speaker 1: are that, you know, not the same age, but close
- 17:30Speaker 1: to it. And also I will say that, uh, I'm
- 17:33Speaker 1: looking behind me and my credentials here, because I do
- 17:37Speaker 1: have a credential from the first holy Field Lewis fight
- 17:41Speaker 1: that was at Madison Square Garden that I went to.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Probably it is a top five sporting event for me
- 17:49Speaker 1: in my life, so incredibly exciting and energizing, so much enthusiasm.
- 17:55Speaker 1: There is nothing like a heavyweight title fight at MSG.
- 18:00Speaker 1: It's different than a than a football game or even
- 18:02Speaker 1: a basketball game because the amount of space in which
- 18:05Speaker 1: the concentration can be focused is just so much smaller.
- 18:10Speaker 1: And then the celebrity wattage and the scenery around the
- 18:13Speaker 1: ring is amazing. I remember after the fight it ended,
- 18:19Speaker 1: I lived on fifty seven Street between Lexington and Third.
- 18:22Speaker 1: The fight was at MSG, probably a thirty five minute
- 18:25Speaker 1: walk minute walk to my apartment. Got home late, was
- 18:28Speaker 1: still so amped. I stayed up all night and the
- 18:30Speaker 1: movie that was on HBO the time. You don't have
- 18:33Speaker 1: you know, you don't have your choices. You just watch
- 18:35Speaker 1: what's on as White Men Can't Jump. And I stayed
- 18:38Speaker 1: up to like three o'clock in the morning watching it
- 18:39Speaker 1: because I was still so amned. I loved it all right.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Here is your prompt for part two. Fellas. Imagine you
- 18:46Speaker 1: can create a new reality television show from scratch and
- 18:48Speaker 1: command any living athlete or athletes to participate. Describe your
- 18:53Speaker 1: reality show concept and who you would choose as your stars.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Colin your first Yeah, don't care if I win the
- 19:01Speaker 1: point on Thunderdome. I'm heading two executives with TV to
- 19:05Speaker 1: pitch this idea that I've actually had for quite a while.
- 19:09Speaker 1: The biggest problem with college football is the transfer portal.
- 19:12Speaker 1: We need a reality TV called the Transfer Portal House,
- 19:17Speaker 1: which would be the entire Tennessee team right now, the
- 19:19Speaker 1: entire The second you enter the transfer Portal, you show
- 19:23Speaker 1: up to this house with your suitcases. Now, a little
- 19:25Speaker 1: background on myself. When I started at Arkansas, we were
- 19:28Speaker 1: under investigation by the n c A. They made the
- 19:31Speaker 1: they made the athletic dorm be engineering students and athletes.
- 19:36Speaker 1: So I know what it's like living three years with
- 19:39Speaker 1: the college basketball team and the college football team, and
- 19:42Speaker 1: it would just be TV gold. So here's how it works.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Here's the rules. We build a house similar to Hogwarts
- 19:48Speaker 1: from Harry Potter. Right, everybody gets their own wing. It
- 19:51Speaker 1: depends on what conference that you come from, So like SEC,
- 19:55Speaker 1: you get the penthouse floor matching. You're in the basement
- 19:59Speaker 1: and you can only come up to the dining hall
- 20:00Speaker 1: on Tuesday's Pact twelve. They sleep in hammocks out on
- 20:04Speaker 1: the lawn and the big tent just runs around the
- 20:06Speaker 1: house and demands respect. Is the resident director. But nobody
- 20:09Speaker 1: invites them to the sun Belts parties. So yes, the
- 20:12Speaker 1: Transfer Portal House. Oh my god, that is an amazing idea, Alex,
- 20:18Speaker 1: how are you going to top that? I'm gonna I'm
- 20:22Speaker 1: gonna top it with a little comedic undertone here and
- 20:25Speaker 1: hope you bite Chad. I'm gonna go with what what
- 20:29Speaker 1: I like to call waking up with the Jenner's. This
- 20:33Speaker 1: is a house full of all Kendall Jenner NBA x is.
- 20:37Speaker 1: I have a starting five and a six man for
- 20:39Speaker 1: you if you'd like to hear. And it's basically these
- 20:42Speaker 1: guys who all quite frankly outside of maybe Demon Booker,
- 20:46Speaker 1: absolutely need to work on their game. So they will
- 20:50Speaker 1: live in a house and they will not get to
- 20:52Speaker 1: take out Kendall or even get any FaceTime. You can
- 20:54Speaker 1: go a little four year old virgin speed dating if
- 20:57Speaker 1: you want some sort of series of unique to work
- 21:00Speaker 1: on your Ben Simmons jumper, or you're not going on
- 21:04Speaker 1: a day with Kendall, and I call a waking up
- 21:06Speaker 1: with the Jenners. Who are the players in that house
- 21:09Speaker 1: would be D'Angelo Russell, Kyle Kuzma, Ben Simmons, Devin Booker,
- 21:16Speaker 1: Blake Griffin, and Jordan Clarks. And that's just from one article.
- 21:22Speaker 1: This is a brilliant idea. I can't believe it. It, Simon,
- 21:27Speaker 1: I want you to win so badly. The idea of
- 21:30Speaker 1: Monica winning this round does not do any of us
- 21:33Speaker 1: any good. But it's a really good answer. I'm gonna
- 21:37Speaker 1: go overseas. I was thinking, what has the most drama
- 21:39Speaker 1: of all sports, and it's definitely European soccer. Americans don't
- 21:43Speaker 1: really care about it, but it's literally never ending teammates
- 21:46Speaker 1: sleeping with wives, sleeping with players who are married but
- 21:49Speaker 1: have girlfriends, and these other players people with their girlfriends
- 21:52Speaker 1: and it's just like pure madness, which when I worked
- 21:55Speaker 1: in TV, that's every night. We just want drama, like
- 21:59Speaker 1: literally we wait, wait, got in. We would say when
- 22:01Speaker 1: we're gonna tell you and say, who cares, Let's just
- 22:03Speaker 1: give him an alcohol and see where the knight takes us,
- 22:05Speaker 1: because all we want is drama. So when I think
- 22:08Speaker 1: of just the Premier League, um, I guess Pulsick would
- 22:12Speaker 1: be the best one because he's American. I mean, he
- 22:14Speaker 1: would probably be the star for now, but he's kind
- 22:16Speaker 1: of a lame ducks. I don't know if he'd be great,
- 22:18Speaker 1: but I feel like that we would find the drama
- 22:21Speaker 1: in the Premier League. I would just go with some
- 22:22Speaker 1: type of soccer club because it's just never ending drama.
- 22:27Speaker 1: This is tough. I'll be honest. You you nail it
- 22:30Speaker 1: with European soccer. I think the audience for European soccer
- 22:33Speaker 1: would be big, and I think you're nailing it with
- 22:36Speaker 1: the off pitch, off field ideas that it's about their
- 22:42Speaker 1: lives outside of that, whereas Monica comes with a really
- 22:45Speaker 1: good idea tapping into the heartbeat of reality television, the
- 22:50Speaker 1: the white hot Universe, center of the universe and reality television.
- 22:55Speaker 1: But what he has them doing isn't is interesting, and
- 22:57Speaker 1: so that I feel like, at the end of the day,
- 23:02Speaker 1: if we can get teams from European Soccer or players
- 23:05Speaker 1: from European soccer to buy in, there will be more
- 23:08Speaker 1: drama with that than with Monica. Monica great effort, love
- 23:11Speaker 1: the idea. What about calling show. At the end of
- 23:16Speaker 1: the day, if I'm getting euro soccer, I'm getting a
- 23:21Speaker 1: lot of high drama with temperamental and tempestuous personalities who
- 23:26Speaker 1: won't drink soda. Give me that any day of the week. Simon,
- 23:31Speaker 1: you have one. Here is our current score. Colin, you
- 23:35Speaker 1: have three. Alex you have to Simon, you have to
- 23:39Speaker 1: Here we go to part three Continental. What's the live
- 23:42Speaker 1: load of live odds right now? Chad? What can I
- 23:45Speaker 1: take calling it plus plus money right now? Can't? Colin
- 23:50Speaker 1: is like, there's no value in Colin right now. He
- 23:53Speaker 1: is so far and away the clubhouse leader on this
- 23:56Speaker 1: point is basically the gambling here's continental shifts. Speaking of soccer,
- 24:03Speaker 1: the gambling world has been enjoying Euro, the international soccer
- 24:07Speaker 1: tournament that runs through much of the summer. There have
- 24:09Speaker 1: already been a few big upsets, and American gamblers have
- 24:11Speaker 1: found themselves suddenly literally and figuratively invested into invested in
- 24:19Speaker 1: a diverse array of countries. I will now ask you
- 24:23Speaker 1: each two questions about a euro underdog nation. Colin, Let's
- 24:31Speaker 1: talk Slovakia, who defeated Poland as plus four hundred underdogs
- 24:36Speaker 1: on Monday. And the beautiful capital of Slovakia is Baratoslava,
- 24:42Speaker 1: located on the banks of the Danube River. It's only
- 24:45Speaker 1: an hour's drive from Vienna and is the only capital
- 24:49Speaker 1: city in the world to border two of these. It
- 24:52Speaker 1: borders two of these. They borders two countries, Yes, different countries,
- 24:59Speaker 1: Austria and Hungary. Too many Americans. The most famous Slovakian
- 25:05Speaker 1: athlete of all time maybe Peter Bondra, who spent fourteen
- 25:09Speaker 1: seasons with this DC area sports team. Uh boy, it's
- 25:16Speaker 1: gonna I mean, let's see, I could I'm old, so
- 25:19Speaker 1: it could be the Bullets. We'll go with the Capitals,
- 25:23Speaker 1: Big Washington Capitals, Very Nice Alex. The Czech Republic scored
- 25:28Speaker 1: a heart fought victory versus Scotland earlier this week after
- 25:32Speaker 1: the Checks opened at one and fifty one to claim
- 25:36Speaker 1: the euro title. Also involved in a hard fought battle
- 25:40Speaker 1: are two beer companies, one American and one Check, who've
- 25:44Speaker 1: been in a legal dispute since nine oh seven over
- 25:47Speaker 1: the trademark of this incredibly famous beer, Budweiser. Budweiser. Yeah,
- 25:58Speaker 1: the Czech Republic has more of these old buildings, so
- 26:02Speaker 1: the answer is these old buildings than anywhere in Europe,
- 26:04Speaker 1: although the aforementioned Slovakia has the most per capita. The
- 26:09Speaker 1: word can also be used as a verb describing a
- 26:13Speaker 1: move in chess. Also described it as more of these
- 26:17Speaker 1: old domiciles. I don't even I don't even have an
- 26:21Speaker 1: educated guess. It's castles. It's castles. Uh, gosh, day it gota.
- 26:29Speaker 1: I'm gonna go on a long walk. Now that is
- 26:31Speaker 1: too easy. You should get a haircut. Sign that Global
- 26:35Speaker 1: surveys ranking general citizen happiness Finland commonly scores the highest
- 26:40Speaker 1: in the world, so there is little doubt Fins were
- 26:43Speaker 1: delirious after their soccer team defeated nearby Denmark as plus
- 26:47Speaker 1: one thousand underdogs in their opening game last week. But
- 26:51Speaker 1: more surprising is that Finln also leads the world in
- 26:54Speaker 1: the consumption of this globally beloved non alcoholic beverage, consuming
- 26:58Speaker 1: nearly three times more better than America Coca Cola coffee
- 27:05Speaker 1: coffee we were looking for coffee simon. The total population
- 27:11Speaker 1: of Finland is about five and a half million people,
- 27:14Speaker 1: which is less than the metro population of this southern
- 27:18Speaker 1: US city, which is hosted an MLB, NBA and NFL
- 27:21Speaker 1: franchise for over fifty years and has just one championship
- 27:26Speaker 1: to show for it, Atlanta. Yes, here's your prompt. Imagine
- 27:34Speaker 1: you made a huge bed on a euro underdog. You
- 27:37Speaker 1: must move to that country and remain there until, against
- 27:40Speaker 1: all odds, that team wins the trophy. And mid July,
- 27:43Speaker 1: if your goal was to have the most fun imaginable,
- 27:46Speaker 1: what team would you select and how would you join
- 27:48Speaker 1: in their unlikely celebration colin Euro first. Well, nobody needs
- 27:54Speaker 1: to hear this, but I traveled for fifteen years around
- 27:57Speaker 1: the world, so I know almost all the countries on
- 27:59Speaker 1: this list. So I did a little, a little thinking
- 28:02Speaker 1: and uh, you know, I just know on the Ukraine front, Okay,
- 28:06Speaker 1: I'm getting married. I don't need to go to Ukraine.
- 28:08Speaker 1: It's a great option for people on the dating market.
- 28:10Speaker 1: Simon right. So as for whales, I once got drunk
- 28:15Speaker 1: with the Queen of England's second cousin in a village
- 28:17Speaker 1: outside of Ponti Pool. It's a great story, but there's
- 28:20Speaker 1: just too many sheep in the road, so I'm not
- 28:22Speaker 1: I'm not going back there every again. I adore Scotland.
- 28:25Speaker 1: I adore golfing in the rain and how you can
- 28:27Speaker 1: blast your driver and it's still in the fairway. But
- 28:30Speaker 1: if you go for a week on a diet of
- 28:31Speaker 1: haggis and Scotch, your intestines turned into a fiery mud slide.
- 28:36Speaker 1: So that's out too it. Sex is not allowed in
- 28:38Speaker 1: the dark in Budapest hungry, so that's absolutely out. And
- 28:42Speaker 1: in Switzerland you can't plush the toilet after ten pm. True,
- 28:45Speaker 1: it's illegal, it's against the law. Denmark is where I
- 28:48Speaker 1: I got. It kind of got interesting because you know,
- 28:50Speaker 1: my my new wife, she's in this whole baby mode.
- 28:54Speaker 1: But we're way past having babies. We can't have babies.
- 28:57Speaker 1: And in Denmark if you find a child abandoned and
- 29:00Speaker 1: you can't find their parents after two hours, that's your child.
- 29:04Speaker 1: So if I go to Denmark, I don't know how
- 29:06Speaker 1: many kids I'm going to have. And that's a problem
- 29:09Speaker 1: because I actually wanted to be in Denmark for one reason.
- 29:12Speaker 1: It's it's not against the law to escape from prison.
- 29:15Speaker 1: I'm serious. I'm not lying about this. You can escape
- 29:18Speaker 1: from prison in Denmark with no repercussions whatsoever. It's a
- 29:24Speaker 1: shocking So I think just to go there so that
- 29:27Speaker 1: my new wife can be happy by finding all these
- 29:28Speaker 1: abandoned kids and making them our children, and me escaping
- 29:31Speaker 1: prison as many times as possible, just for fun. I'm
- 29:34Speaker 1: going to Denmark. Also, our new owner is better collective.
- 29:40Speaker 1: They are based in Denmark, so you could have you
- 29:43Speaker 1: could be at the corporate office every day. Yeah, I'll
- 29:45Speaker 1: tell them, I'll be right back. I'm just gonna I'm
- 29:47Speaker 1: gonna Andy dufrain myself tunnel out of this cell. If
- 29:50Speaker 1: you can escape from prison, you can be in the
- 29:52Speaker 1: opposite of your day. Oh my god, that's such a
- 29:54Speaker 1: good answer. It's going to be impossible for Alex and
- 29:56Speaker 1: Simon to top this. But Alex, you can try. The
- 29:59Speaker 1: only thing I can outer with is going to the
- 30:02Speaker 1: happiest country in the world, at least at the polling polls.
- 30:06Speaker 1: And I'm going. I'm taking my polls and I'm going
- 30:09Speaker 1: to Finland, and I am literally having a ball. They
- 30:12Speaker 1: are known. I'll give a little call. In fact, they
- 30:14Speaker 1: have three thousand saunas, saunas. I don't know why, a
- 30:18Speaker 1: lot of fits and going on, I guess, but they
- 30:21Speaker 1: have a Santa Claus village. They're also known for reindeers,
- 30:24Speaker 1: so you can find me. As Finland already tops the
- 30:28Speaker 1: boys den Mark, I'll go ahead and take a little sauna,
- 30:34Speaker 1: a little chilling with Rudolph, a little but heavy with
- 30:37Speaker 1: Santa Claus, and I'll wait for Finland to catch the
- 30:40Speaker 1: Euro doubIe. Celebrating with Finland, I get it. I get it,
- 30:44Speaker 1: UH doing a sauna. Colin would celebrate with the UH
- 30:49Speaker 1: team from Denmark and adopt babies and escape from jail,
- 30:54Speaker 1: which many of them might be doing if they were
- 30:56Speaker 1: to win the euros. Simon, I'm I know it's I
- 31:01Speaker 1: know exactly what Simon's doing. Now. You have no idea, Chad,
- 31:04Speaker 1: you you're all into class and love. Those are two
- 31:07Speaker 1: things I think of Chad of class and love grants
- 31:10Speaker 1: the language of love, and it's one of the classiest
- 31:13Speaker 1: places in the world. So are we not going to
- 31:14Speaker 1: be chilling in south of France. I don't know what
- 31:17Speaker 1: these guys are doing right now, but it was just
- 31:19Speaker 1: sitting there. So I'm taking it south to France. Give
- 31:22Speaker 1: me France every day, so and I get to go
- 31:24Speaker 1: with you. I get to go with you. Oh, you're
- 31:26Speaker 1: common chaff dude and your wife no kids though, no kids? Simon,
- 31:30Speaker 1: you are a hundred percent when this prompt you know
- 31:34Speaker 1: exactly what to say that if we could make it
- 31:38Speaker 1: to a visa in the next two weeks before my wedding,
- 31:40Speaker 1: I'd like to join that too. At the end of
- 31:43Speaker 1: the day, he said, I'm classy and I love love,
- 31:45Speaker 1: and if that's what he's gotten from me in these
- 31:47Speaker 1: past couple of years, I'm totally good with that. All right.
- 31:50Speaker 1: Here's the current score. Colin Wilson, you have five. Alex Monico,
- 31:54Speaker 1: you have three, Simon Hunter, you have four. The topic
- 31:57Speaker 1: for the final for the Grand fin Alley famous Us.
- 32:00Speaker 1: How much would you like to risk? Please close your eyes,
- 32:03Speaker 1: hold up your fingers with your wager amount Budweiser is
- 32:07Speaker 1: the most advertised beer brand in America, boasting a massive
- 32:12Speaker 1: domestic advertising budget that of course includes the annual Super
- 32:16Speaker 1: Bowl commercials. In two thousand three, bud Wise released one
- 32:20Speaker 1: of their most popular Super Bowl commercials of all time,
- 32:23Speaker 1: entitled Referee. This commercial featured their iconic Clydesdale horses playing
- 32:29Speaker 1: a game of football that becomes interrupted by an instant
- 32:33Speaker 1: replay review. Appropriately enough, in the commercial, this replay review
- 32:38Speaker 1: was conducted by a referee from the Animal Kingdom, portrayed
- 32:42Speaker 1: by a well known African animal who was the animal
- 32:46Speaker 1: to play the referee in this commercial. Here comes the King,
- 32:51Speaker 1: who comes the big number one? But why the beer?
- 32:55Speaker 1: The King is second and none? Just say? But why said?
- 33:01Speaker 1: You've said it all comes the killing of But why
- 33:08Speaker 1: the beer's the one that's leading the list? And what
- 33:12Speaker 1: I think makes it bitt telling you? There's Alex, you
- 33:26Speaker 1: have three points, you risked three points. Give me your answer.
- 33:31Speaker 1: I missed listening to the question, but too late, I said, horses, Dude,
- 33:37Speaker 1: I don't even know what to say to that. Damn it.
- 33:40Speaker 1: You have zero points now, Alex Monico Simon, you have
- 33:44Speaker 1: four points. You risked four points. No shock there. What
- 33:48Speaker 1: is your answer? Zebra right, Zebra, Zebra. Simon, you now
- 33:55Speaker 1: have eight points. Colin, you have five points. Here's the thing.
- 34:00Speaker 1: He only risked three points, which means we are potentially
- 34:06Speaker 1: headed for the playoff if Colin got the right answer. Colin,
- 34:09Speaker 1: I answered chimp. Oh my god, massive. This is a
- 34:18Speaker 1: Hawks like come from behind victory two weeks in a
- 34:26Speaker 1: row for our reigning champion, my best friend, the guy
- 34:31Speaker 1: I'm tilting the game for. Anyways, Mr Simon Hunter, before
- 34:36Speaker 1: we get to Simon to gloat, Colin, I would like
- 34:38Speaker 1: to hear a little bit about how you're feeling right now.
- 34:41Speaker 1: I feel like the Arkansas Razorbacks came in as the
- 34:43Speaker 1: number one seed. I didn't lose one weekend series. I
- 34:46Speaker 1: am seventeen four against everybody that's in Oma all right now,
- 34:49Speaker 1: and I just lost. So I'm a little embarrassed. I
- 34:51Speaker 1: think you should be embarrassed. I think not getting that
- 34:54Speaker 1: last answer, you're probably, in many ways the smartest person
- 34:59Speaker 1: that the action work, and the fact that you knew
- 35:02Speaker 1: so much about every single thing we talked about today
- 35:06Speaker 1: and then went with chimp instead of Zebra. Yeah, all right,
- 35:10Speaker 1: Before we sign off, here's a word from our fearless leader,
- 35:14Speaker 1: Action Network CEO, Patrick King. It's just the international system
- 35:18Speaker 1: of currency which determines the totality of life on this planet,
- 35:25Speaker 1: and you have metal with the primal forces of make sure.
