Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, Discos, need a little more Disgraceland in your life,
- 0:05Speaker 1: just to touch to get you through. Yeah, me too.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This is the podcast that comes after the podcast. Welcome
- 0:11Speaker 1: to Disgraceland, the after Party. Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode,
- 0:30Speaker 1: a little thing we like to call the after party.
- 0:33Speaker 1: This is the show after the show, the party after
- 0:35Speaker 1: the party. The bridge to get you from one full
- 0:37Speaker 1: episode or Disgraceland to the other, the backyard to dig
- 0:40Speaker 1: into the dirt. On this episode, we are talking, among
- 0:44Speaker 1: other things, once again about the Notorious Big some disgraceful
- 0:48Speaker 1: new metal, Ricky Powell, Bismarcky, and of course your voicemails, text,
- 0:53Speaker 1: dms and more, and as always, a whole lot of Rosie.
- 0:57Speaker 1: All right, Discos, let's get into it.
- 1:12Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:13Speaker 1: In this week's re release of Part two of The
- 1:15Speaker 1: Notorious Big Story, we get further into the infamous East
- 1:18Speaker 1: Coast West Coast Beef, but also into Biggie's life after Tupac,
- 1:22Speaker 1: his inspiration as an artist, and the mystery behind his
- 1:25Speaker 1: still unsolved murder. Still unsolved? Can you believe this is
- 1:29Speaker 1: twenty six years ago? But recently there was some news
- 1:34Speaker 1: related to Tupac secures murder the Nevada home of Keith D,
- 1:38Speaker 1: one of the two living eyewitnesses to Tupac's murder. His
- 1:42Speaker 1: home was recently rated and now, at the time of
- 1:45Speaker 1: the taping of this after party episode, The Sun newspaper
- 1:49Speaker 1: in the UK is reporting that Keith D is facing
- 1:51Speaker 1: quote unquote imminent charges related to Tupac's murder. Not sure
- 1:55Speaker 1: how credible the Sun is just throwing that out there,
- 1:58Speaker 1: But add to that, one of the former detectives who
- 2:02Speaker 1: worked on Biggie's case is saying that whatever evidence they're
- 2:04Speaker 1: collecting from Keith D may actually help solve Biggie's murder
- 2:08Speaker 1: as well. So what do you think onto something here
- 2:11Speaker 1: be getting warmer? Feels like every couple months or sorry,
- 2:14Speaker 1: years or whatever, something pops up that teases us and
- 2:16Speaker 1: lets us think that we're finally going to get to
- 2:18Speaker 1: the finally going to get to the end of this.
- 2:20Speaker 1: I almost feel like, if we were to know who
- 2:23Speaker 1: actually killed Biggie or Tupac, would we even pay attention
- 2:26Speaker 1: to it in today's media landscape, Would it even cut through?
- 2:30Speaker 1: I mean, I know it would cut through immediately, but
- 2:31Speaker 1: I almost feel like the mystery around their death is
- 2:34Speaker 1: way bigger than any potential solving of the case could be.
- 2:38Speaker 1: You can hear at the end of this Notorious Big episode,
- 2:41Speaker 1: the part two episode that we just released, you can
- 2:43Speaker 1: hear where I'm coming from with my feelings on who
- 2:45Speaker 1: killed them and what the motivation could have been. So
- 2:49Speaker 1: because of that, because of my thoughts on this, it's
- 2:52Speaker 1: easy for me to see why one of the former
- 2:54Speaker 1: detectives who worked on the case, like I just mentioned,
- 2:56Speaker 1: would say that whatever evidence is found on Keith d
- 2:59Speaker 1: might act helped authorities find out who killed Big the
- 3:03Speaker 1: Big the Big One, the notorious Big One. This topic,
- 3:08Speaker 1: still twenty six years later, is a hot one. And
- 3:11Speaker 1: I don't mean popular one, I mean dangerous one. The
- 3:13Speaker 1: killers are still out there. I believe that. I believe that,
- 3:17Speaker 1: at least in the case of Tupac, the killer still
- 3:19Speaker 1: holds influence and is still dangerous and still capable of killing.
- 3:23Speaker 1: And I think that that is very much why no
- 3:26Speaker 1: one will actually say who they think killed Tupac. If
- 3:30Speaker 1: you watch interviews with people who were involved, I mean
- 3:33Speaker 1: friends of his other artists in the music industry, same
- 3:37Speaker 1: thing goes for when they talk about who killed Biggie.
- 3:40Speaker 1: You can kind of see a pattern develop and how
- 3:42Speaker 1: they answer questions in what they don't say, and I
- 3:45Speaker 1: use that. I use that as a guiding guide post
- 3:50Speaker 1: for me on writing these big episodes. And again, you
- 3:55Speaker 1: know what I just said about Tupac's killer being out there,
- 3:59Speaker 1: the same holds for Biggie's killer. Not only is he
- 4:01Speaker 1: still out there, I believe that the forces that brought
- 4:03Speaker 1: down Big are bigger and more dangerous than the forces
- 4:07Speaker 1: that brought down Tupac Secure. So, uh, you know, there's
- 4:11Speaker 1: a question I asked at the end of this episode,
- 4:13Speaker 1: the part two episode on Biggie. The question is who
- 4:15Speaker 1: stood to gain from the death of the notorious Big.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Lots of potential people stood the game was at his
- 4:20Speaker 1: record label, his manager, the LAPD Tupac supporters. There is
- 4:24Speaker 1: a long, long list. So who who stood to gain
- 4:27Speaker 1: from Biggie Small's dying? Six one seven nine oh six
- 4:32Speaker 1: six six three eight. The question this week is simple,
- 4:35Speaker 1: who do you think killed the notorious Big? Leave me
- 4:38Speaker 1: a voicemail or send me a text just like the
- 4:41Speaker 1: eight five to nine chiming in here on their way
- 4:44Speaker 1: to work.
- 4:45Speaker 3: Hey Jake, this is shown from the eight point nine
- 4:48Speaker 3: Uh calling.
- 4:49Speaker 4: In on my way to work.
- 4:50Speaker 3: Listening to the most recent Bonus episode you had asked
- 4:55Speaker 3: about feuds and music from of the greatest views of
- 4:59Speaker 3: all time, you said that you aren't too sure about
- 5:01Speaker 3: any country music, and one that immediately came to mind,
- 5:06Speaker 3: especially considering you know, you recently put out the Merle
- 5:09Speaker 3: Haggard episode. People keep calling in requesting Wayalem Jennings episodes. Well, actually,
- 5:13Speaker 3: Merle and Whalon had a bit of a beef circa
- 5:18Speaker 3: in nineteen sixty nine, Waylon Jennings and Merle got into
- 5:23Speaker 3: a poker game and Merle and I think it was
- 5:28Speaker 3: his manager at the time, I remember it was Fuzzy Owens.
- 5:32Speaker 3: But anyway, Merle and Fuzzy Whylan thinks that they set
- 5:39Speaker 3: him up and took all his money because Whalen had
- 5:42Speaker 3: anywhere between four and five thousand dollars on this game,
- 5:46Speaker 3: and he lost and was bitter about it. And even
- 5:49Speaker 3: though both of those guys were friends with Johnny Cash,
- 5:53Speaker 3: Willie Nelson and you know other outlaws in the scene,
- 5:58Speaker 3: you know, they.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Just couldn't get along. Whalen never forgot about that, you know,
- 6:02Speaker 2: he still held over Merle's head. So a lot of people,
- 6:05Speaker 2: you know, they wonder why Merle wasn't in the highwayman.
- 6:09Speaker 2: This is a big part of the reason why. But anyway,
- 6:11Speaker 2: I love the podcast.
- 6:13Speaker 3: I know you've asked in the past about what we
- 6:15Speaker 3: do and where we listen, like I said, listening on
- 6:17Speaker 3: the road. And also while I'm at work, I work
- 6:20Speaker 3: at big as fans. I guess you could say on
- 6:22Speaker 3: the biggest Fans the Great Disgrace Land. She keeps doing
- 6:25Speaker 3: what you're doing and.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Rock rolla all right, Sean, I had no idea about
- 6:29Speaker 1: this Merle Haggard and Whalon Jennings dust up. See that's
- 6:33Speaker 1: the thing, that's that's why this thing of ours, this
- 6:35Speaker 1: quote unquote thing of ours works. I share info with
- 6:39Speaker 1: you guys. You guys hit me the classic country beefs
- 6:41Speaker 1: and have no fear. We will get to a Whaleen
- 6:43Speaker 1: Jennings episode paging Zeth lundy uh sometime in the near future.
- 6:47Speaker 1: But in the meantime, like I said previously, you can
- 6:49Speaker 1: check out the video we have on Whalen on our
- 6:51Speaker 1: YouTube channel that's YouTube dot com slash at Disgrace lampod.
- 6:54Speaker 1: But back to the voicemails, Judy. Judy from the three
- 6:58Speaker 1: oh nine sounds like a clash song, do isn't it?
- 7:00Speaker 1: Judy from The Three on nine? All right, Judy, what
- 7:03Speaker 1: do you got.
- 7:04Speaker 5: Hey, Jake? I am calling from three h nine and
- 7:10Speaker 5: I was listening to a bonus episode. Not sure which one,
- 7:15Speaker 5: but you asked about non biopic music movies.
- 7:19Speaker 6: Or something to that extent, and I don't think this
- 7:23Speaker 6: is a bio. I think it's just an amalgamation of
- 7:26Speaker 6: different stories that are similar to maybe musicians, well, definitely
- 7:30Speaker 6: similar to musicians.
- 7:32Speaker 5: That have lived, but I don't.
- 7:35Speaker 6: Think it's about anyone in particular.
- 7:36Speaker 5: It's American pop. It's an animated movie.
- 7:40Speaker 6: I love it is my favorite.
- 7:42Speaker 5: It is so just layered.
- 7:46Speaker 6: When you really get into it and watch it, the
- 7:49Speaker 6: animation is crude and raw. With the music, it's just
- 7:54Speaker 6: a great experience. So I suggest that I didn't mention
- 7:58Speaker 6: my name. My name is Judy again, Colin from the
- 8:01Speaker 6: Three on I have a great day, Balta.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Rolla, Judy, thank you. I've never seen American pop. I
- 8:08Speaker 1: don't think it's not this. No, I'm thinking of heavy metal.
- 8:12Speaker 1: That's someone from the seventies. When is American pop from
- 8:14Speaker 1: two Thousand's what I got to figure this out. I'll
- 8:17Speaker 1: look into American pop. Judy, thank you. I appreciate the voicemail.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Let's check out this one from Terry all the way
- 8:26Speaker 1: out in Idaho in the two.
- 8:29Speaker 7: Eight Hey Jay gets Terry from way out in Idaho
- 8:34Speaker 7: again the two to eight music Movies. I'm gonna have
- 8:40Speaker 7: to say I am a huge Prince fan. So Purple Rain.
- 8:44Speaker 7: I know that probably won't go down on a lot
- 8:47Speaker 7: of people's list, but it's one of my favorites. Bohemian
- 8:50Speaker 7: Rhapsody is up there. I also have to say I'm
- 8:53Speaker 7: a Motley Crue fan, so I loved the Dirt and
- 8:57Speaker 7: eight Mile was a good one with Eminem so really
- 9:01Speaker 7: love that. Anyway, keep up the great work and rock Corolla.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Terry, thank you for the call. I love Purple Rain
- 9:10Speaker 1: because I love Prince. But I'm going to say something
- 9:14Speaker 1: that I don't think is controversial. But who knows Prince
- 9:17Speaker 1: is not a good actor. We love Prince and because
- 9:21Speaker 1: we love him, I feel like that compensates in Purple Rain,
- 9:24Speaker 1: at least for his lack of acting. Chops, Yeah, I
- 9:27Speaker 1: still love the movie. His shitty acting doesn't really affect
- 9:31Speaker 1: it for me. He just looks good on a motorcycle.
- 9:33Speaker 1: What can I say, what else did you talk about here?
- 9:36Speaker 1: The Dirt. The Dirt was good, especially Tony Cavallero is
- 9:39Speaker 1: Ozzy Osbourne and that scene with the ants, But it's
- 9:41Speaker 1: hard to compete with that book. I don't know if
- 9:43Speaker 1: you've read The Dirt, the Neil Strauss book, but it
- 9:47Speaker 1: is incredible. I think it's the only book I've ever
- 9:49Speaker 1: read in one sitting where I just started reading it
- 9:52Speaker 1: and I stopped everything I was doing, and I could
- 9:56Speaker 1: not stop reading it until I was done. I remember
- 9:59Speaker 1: exactly where I was. I was in I was on
- 10:01Speaker 1: the Upper east Side in my friend Julie Duffy's apartment
- 10:06Speaker 1: back when she lived in New York, and we'ld go
- 10:08Speaker 1: out on tour managing John Cooper, Mellen Camp and justin
- 10:11Speaker 1: Timberlake and let me crash your place when she was gone.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Awesome of you, Julie, still thanking you after all these years.
- 10:17Speaker 1: But I remember she had a copy of The Dirt
- 10:19Speaker 1: on her bookshelf when I got to her place, and
- 10:23Speaker 1: I mustn't have had anything to do that day and night,
- 10:25Speaker 1: because I just planted my ass down in one of
- 10:28Speaker 1: Julie's chairs and I just read and read and read
- 10:30Speaker 1: and read, and all these years later, it's a it's
- 10:33Speaker 1: a Netflix thing and we're still talking about it. But
- 10:35Speaker 1: that's because the book is so damn good. So Terry,
- 10:38Speaker 1: check out the book The Dirt by Neil Strauss if
- 10:40Speaker 1: you haven't already. And thanks for your bad Lands answers
- 10:43Speaker 1: as well. I'll get back to you separately on your
- 10:44Speaker 1: movie stuff over in the wrap party. All right, let's
- 10:47Speaker 1: check in with Billy for the two to one to zero, Jake.
- 10:51Speaker 4: You got Billy here from the two to one zero
- 10:54Speaker 4: in San Antonio, Texas, And I'm calling in a reference
- 10:58Speaker 4: to one of your previous after party questions. So I
- 11:03Speaker 4: just wanted to, like, you know what I've been listening
- 11:05Speaker 4: too lately in reference to what you first mentioned, I've
- 11:09Speaker 4: been revisiting a lot of old school well really, I
- 11:14Speaker 4: mean just nineteen eighty stuff like Talking Heads, Depeche Mode
- 11:17Speaker 4: and nine inch Snails. But man, you were talking about this,
- 11:22Speaker 4: you know, I can't I can't believe that you like,
- 11:25Speaker 4: you've never seen NASA ron Killers or you didn't like
- 11:28Speaker 4: it the first time when you saw it, because it's crazy.
- 11:31Speaker 4: Oliver Stone he directed that flick, and then he hired
- 11:34Speaker 4: Trent Reznor from nine Inch Snails of nine and Snails
- 11:38Speaker 4: is nine Inch Nails to produce the soundtrack for the film.
- 11:43Speaker 4: So I don't know if you've rewatched it, but you
- 11:47Speaker 4: might like it the second time around much more because
- 11:52Speaker 4: in my personal opinion, I don't know which is better
- 11:55Speaker 4: the film or the soundtrack. So you might want to
- 11:59Speaker 4: challenge yourself on that one, friend, I think it will
- 12:02Speaker 4: be thoroughly surprised. But keep on keeping on, man, keep doing,
- 12:08Speaker 4: you know, keep touring the best work that everybody implores
- 12:12Speaker 4: you to continue doing. And I'm a huge fan of yours. Yeah,
- 12:18Speaker 4: you're an inspiration, brother.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Be good, Take.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Care, Billy. I did not know about the Resnor angle
- 12:25Speaker 1: with Natural Born Killers, but I'll indeed get back into
- 12:27Speaker 1: it and check it out. I love having a reason
- 12:29Speaker 1: to rewatch movies and challenge my initial opinions about things,
- 12:33Speaker 1: and your timing is great. Just heard a Resnor piece
- 12:36Speaker 1: from the Social Network soundtrack and popped up on my shuffle.
- 12:38Speaker 1: I was blown away by him and Atticus Fitch. Am
- 12:41Speaker 1: I saying that right? But yeah, I'll check out natural
- 12:45Speaker 1: Born Killers for no other reason, like you said, just
- 12:47Speaker 1: for the soundtrack. And it's been decades since I've seen
- 12:50Speaker 1: that movie, so kind of excited to have a reason
- 12:52Speaker 1: to dive back into it, even though it was just
- 12:55Speaker 1: reading Tarantino's comments about how much he still dislikes that
- 12:58Speaker 1: that movie. All right, six one seven, nine oh six,
- 13:02Speaker 1: six six three eight. If you want to leave me
- 13:04Speaker 1: a voicemail on anything that we're discussing here in Disgraceland,
- 13:07Speaker 1: I love loving these recommendations from you guys on best
- 13:10Speaker 1: non music biopic music movies. That's a mouthful, But this
- 13:15Speaker 1: week's question, you know, keep those, keep those answers coming
- 13:17Speaker 1: if you got them. But this week's question is who
- 13:19Speaker 1: killed the notorious Big Doesn't get more true crimey and
- 13:23Speaker 1: more music true crime than that. Check out the latest
- 13:26Speaker 1: re release of the two Biggie episodes we did part
- 13:28Speaker 1: two just hit It's at the top of your feeds.
- 13:30Speaker 1: You can check that out to refresh your memory. Hit
- 13:33Speaker 1: me back with your theories on who killed Biggie Smalls.
- 13:37Speaker 1: We'll take We'll take theories on who killed Tupac as well,
- 13:39Speaker 1: whatever whatever other questions you have voicemails texts six one
- 13:44Speaker 1: seven nine oh six six six three eight. I'm gonna
- 13:48Speaker 1: take a quick break. Be back after this with some
- 13:51Speaker 1: answers to your text some dms and more. Yes, yes,
- 14:16Speaker 1: we are back, so let's dive into some of your texts.
- 14:18Speaker 1: You can text me as you know six one seven
- 14:20Speaker 1: nine oh six six six three eight. Got this one
- 14:23Speaker 1: here from the eight one four Hi, Jake, my name
- 14:25Speaker 1: is Chad and I'm from the eight one to four
- 14:27Speaker 1: area of Pennsylvania and I have been listening to you
- 14:29Speaker 1: since you started work on Disgraceland and bad Lands while
- 14:33Speaker 1: at work while I cut the grass at home. I
- 14:35Speaker 1: work in a manufacturing plant that makes fuel related items
- 14:38Speaker 1: like some pumps and LCD screens for gas stations and
- 14:41Speaker 1: depots all over the world. My family and I recently
- 14:43Speaker 1: took a trip to Virginia Beach and I introduced them
- 14:45Speaker 1: to your podcast during the drive. They loved your writing
- 14:48Speaker 1: and storytelling abilities. Keep up the great work and thank
- 14:50Speaker 1: you for all your hard work. I would love to
- 14:52Speaker 1: hear something about the early few between Roger Waters and
- 14:54Speaker 1: David Gilmour someday if you could. Much love. Thanks for
- 14:58Speaker 1: the text, Chad, appreciate it that you're spreading the Disgraceland
- 15:03Speaker 1: to your family. You must have some older kids, I hope,
- 15:10Speaker 1: but yeah, Roger Waters and David Gilmore. We're gonna do
- 15:12Speaker 1: a Pink Foyd Part two at some point, and I
- 15:14Speaker 1: believe we'll get into that, all right. This one comes
- 15:17Speaker 1: in from the five one eight Hot on the Conspiracy Line.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Hey Jake Chuck in the five poe eight again, I
- 15:23Speaker 1: heard you talking about Mark David Chapman on the pod today.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Are familiar with the theory. Are you familiar with the
- 15:27Speaker 1: theory that John Lennon was assassinated but not necessarily by Chapman.
- 15:31Speaker 1: I don't know what to make of it. Maybe it's
- 15:32Speaker 1: similar to your John Denver pod. Anyway, attaching a link
- 15:36Speaker 1: to the pod, I am familiar with it, and I
- 15:38Speaker 1: don't put any stock in that. But hey Man, Free Country.
- 15:42Speaker 1: You can believe what you want to believe. But everything
- 15:44Speaker 1: I've read leads me to believe that Chapman was the guy.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Not even a question, all right? All right? This one
- 15:52Speaker 1: comes from the six seven eight. Hey Jake, this is
- 15:54Speaker 1: Erica from the six seven eight ATL. I'm a new
- 15:57Speaker 1: listener to your podcast and I love it. Shout out
- 16:00Speaker 1: to my coworker Steve, who introduced me to the Disgracelam podcast.
- 16:04Speaker 1: And then I saw you had one about movie stars
- 16:05Speaker 1: and I said to myself, this is amazing. I'm a big,
- 16:08Speaker 1: huge movie person, so thank you for the podcast. You
- 16:10Speaker 1: got it. This is going to a bad Lands direction,
- 16:14Speaker 1: but I'm gonna keep rolling with it. With that being said,
- 16:16Speaker 1: I was on my way with work, looking for an
- 16:17Speaker 1: episode to listen to and find one about Kerry Fisher.
- 16:19Speaker 1: And as I'm listening to, I got on the highway
- 16:22Speaker 1: and this black jeto was in front of me and
- 16:24Speaker 1: I noticed their license plate. Immediately said, oh mg, the
- 16:26Speaker 1: license plate r at Obi wan Kenobi. I couldn't believe it.
- 16:30Speaker 1: I don't know what this means, but it was interesting enough.
- 16:32Speaker 1: I had to reach out to tell you about it,
- 16:33Speaker 1: and this won't be the last time you hear from me.
- 16:35Speaker 1: I got a lot of catching up to do. Well,
- 16:37Speaker 1: all right, And then she sends in. Erica sends in
- 16:40Speaker 1: the picture of the Obi wan Kenoby license plate from
- 16:44Speaker 1: the jet. I got a little it was a little
- 16:45Speaker 1: bad lance text there. I thought it was gonna be
- 16:47Speaker 1: an after party disgraceland text, but hey, we'll keep it.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Let's see what else we got from the four six'
- 16:54Speaker 1: nine subject music industry Beefs, jake what About David? Crosby

- 23:49Speaker 1: Eight At disgrace, Lampod i'm gonna take a quick break
- 23:53Speaker 1: back with some recommendations in just a. Bit the recommendations
- 24:12Speaker 1: Part this is the recommendation's, part the part we recommend
- 24:15Speaker 1: the things that need, recommending the recommendation's. Part all, right all,
- 24:17Speaker 1: right all. Right i'm writing this thing that hopefully you
- 24:19Speaker 1: guys will hear about. SOON i can't talk about, it but,
- 24:22Speaker 1: someday HOPEFULLY i. Can it's a story that's set in
- 24:25Speaker 1: the early. Offts it's set in two thousand and, one
- 24:28Speaker 1: to be. Specific so As i'm writing this, Thing i've
- 24:31Speaker 1: been mining rock music from two thousand and nineteen ninety
- 24:34Speaker 1: nine for, inspiration not from two thousand and, one because,
- 24:38Speaker 1: again the story takes place in early two thousand and.
- 24:41Speaker 1: One and also the thing That i've noticed is two
- 24:44Speaker 1: thousand and, one this thing happens in music that changes
- 24:47Speaker 1: the course that we're. On two thousand and one is
- 24:51Speaker 1: when we start to get you, know we get the,
- 24:52Speaker 1: strokes white, stripes start to break, through and then the
- 24:58Speaker 1: sort of floodgates, open the high, ives the, vines all
- 25:01Speaker 1: of the, bands for lack of a better, term and
- 25:06Speaker 1: mainstream rock music takes a turn for the, better for
- 25:09Speaker 1: sure in my, Opinion But i'm focused on for the
- 25:15Speaker 1: worst here in two thousand And what was going on
- 25:18Speaker 1: in two thousand and nineteen ninety, nine and As i'm
- 25:22Speaker 1: writing this, thing And i'm immersed in this world And
- 25:25Speaker 1: i'm listening to what was on the charts at the
- 25:27Speaker 1: time for rock, MUSIC i find myself having a brand
- 25:33Speaker 1: new appreciation for WHAT i can only describe as ridiculous
- 25:39Speaker 1: new metal. MUSIC i fucking. HATED i didn't care about.
- 25:46Speaker 1: IT i THOUGHT i not only hated, IT i like.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Actively it just repelled. Me i'm talking about these songs
- 25:56Speaker 1: in particular are the Ones i've been listening, to and
- 25:58Speaker 1: these are the bands That i'm talking about, Here, Okay
- 26:01Speaker 1: Last resort By Papa, Roach American badass By Kid, Rock
- 26:06Speaker 1: drive By, Incubus down with The sickness By, Disturbed Sleep
- 26:11Speaker 1: now in The fire By Ridge against The. MACHINE i
- 26:15Speaker 1: was pretty much out On rage after their first, Album
- 26:18Speaker 1: so by two thousand and ONE i wasn't paying, attention
- 26:20Speaker 1: or two THOUSAND i wasn't paying, ATTENTION i should. Say
- 26:22Speaker 1: and as For Papa, Roach Kid rock And incubus And,
- 26:25Speaker 1: DISTURBED i was thoroughly. Disinterested but, again hearing these songs
- 26:33Speaker 1: now almost as artifacts from another. Time with this new,
- 26:39Speaker 1: OBJECTIVITY i hear them as kind of a new classic
- 26:44Speaker 1: rock AND i cannot Believe i'm saying, this But i'm
- 26:47Speaker 1: open to, it LIKE i again again, Again this music repelled,
- 26:54Speaker 1: me and Now i'm, like you, Know i'm turning Up
- 26:59Speaker 1: Last resort By, roach, which by the, way the lyrics
- 27:01Speaker 1: are so fucking. DARK i can't believe that was like
- 27:03Speaker 1: a radio. Hit BUT i don't. KNOW i, MEAN i
- 27:07Speaker 1: Realize i'm flushing all my quote unquote cool guy crad
- 27:10Speaker 1: down the toilet. Here but what CAN i? Say this is.
- 27:12Speaker 1: True there's something that happens with time where you can
- 27:15Speaker 1: bring objectivity to a piece of, music and you can
- 27:18Speaker 1: hear it in the context of nostalgia or something that
- 27:21Speaker 1: makes you feel Like it's not that it gives you,
- 27:25Speaker 1: permission BECAUSE i don't give a shit about. THAT i
- 27:27Speaker 1: don't care what people think about WHAT i listened to
- 27:29Speaker 1: or what they think about me BECAUSE i listened to
- 27:30Speaker 1: something or. Another, Clearly i'm telling you right now THAT
- 27:33Speaker 1: i can appreciate it disturbed For god's. Sakes but there's
- 27:36Speaker 1: something about just having distance from. It And i've experienced
- 27:40Speaker 1: this with other types of music, too that make it
- 27:43Speaker 1: listenable to, me make me not, listenable make me almost
- 27:46Speaker 1: want to just want to like. It it's. Weird it's fucking.
- 27:49Speaker 1: Weird and all of. This of, course listening to this
- 27:54Speaker 1: bad new metal from nineteen ninety nine and two thousand
- 27:58Speaker 1: has forced me into listening to newer heavy, music hardcore,
- 28:02Speaker 1: music new, metal not new and you, metal but new
- 28:05Speaker 1: as in modern. Metal mostly When i'm working, Out So
- 28:09Speaker 1: i'm listening To Incendi, Area i'm listening to Mad Ball.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Leeway that's, OLD i get, it but Still i'm back
- 28:14Speaker 1: listening to a power trip kind of new but not really.
- 28:18Speaker 1: Turnstyle SO i just got to ask what heavy music
- 28:21Speaker 1: are you guys listening to Because i'm in that mindset right.
- 28:23Speaker 1: Now and, yeah if you want to convince me that
- 28:26Speaker 1: these new metal bands are actually better THAN i thought
- 28:28Speaker 1: they were AND i just missed something and Now i'm
- 28:30Speaker 1: finally catching up to, it convinced me WHY i shouldn't
- 28:32Speaker 1: Hate Papa roach Or disturbed is What i'm. Saying, Uh and,
- 28:35Speaker 1: again hit me up with some any modern hardcore or
- 28:38Speaker 1: modern metal you guys are digging on six one seven
- 28:41Speaker 1: nine oh six six six three. Eight i'm in a
- 28:44Speaker 1: heavy music phase currently And i'm digging, it so hit
- 28:47Speaker 1: me up with those. Recommendations also listening To Death valley
- 28:51Speaker 1: girls band From La going to see them in a
- 28:53Speaker 1: couple of weeks At. Bumblefest, uh anyone else going To?
- 28:56Speaker 1: Bumblefest Maybe i'll see. There caught up on for music
- 29:00Speaker 1: related video. Content caught up on a couple of music
- 29:03Speaker 1: docs since we last. Spoke showtime keeps playing The Ricky
- 29:06Speaker 1: Powell The individualist documentary from twenty. Twenty And i've seen this.
- 29:11Speaker 1: BEFORE i saw it when it came. Out of, Course
- 29:13Speaker 1: i'm interested In Ricky powell just because of his affiliation
- 29:16Speaker 1: with The Beastie, boys but also just being part of
- 29:18Speaker 1: that whole like Downtown New york thing in the eighties and.
- 29:21Speaker 1: Nineties that's my, lane, man as it is for a
- 29:25Speaker 1: lot of you guys. TOO i KNOW i see any
- 29:27Speaker 1: of that. Content i'm just, like suck right. In and
- 29:30Speaker 1: this documentary is really. Great And Ricky powell was a great.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Artist he was a, photographer he was more than. That
- 29:37Speaker 1: he was a. Personality he had his own. THING i
- 29:40Speaker 1: know a lot of you know who he. Is i'm
- 29:41Speaker 1: obviously speaking right now to those who. Don't but if
- 29:44Speaker 1: you're all interested in Downtown New, york if you're all
- 29:47Speaker 1: interested in early hip, hop early def jam or The Beastie,
- 29:52Speaker 1: boys of, course anything like. That check Out Ricky Powell The.
- 29:55Speaker 1: Individualist this documentary is not, new it's from twenty, twenty
- 29:59Speaker 1: but it is. Worse LIKE i, SAID i saw it,
- 30:01Speaker 1: then and it's on and every TIME i catch it,
- 30:03Speaker 1: ON i just rewatch. It it's just it's really fucking. Great,
- 30:07Speaker 1: also there's a NEW i think this is On showtime as.
- 30:09Speaker 4: Well.
- 30:09Speaker 1: Showtime showtime does a lot of music, content which is.
- 30:12Speaker 1: AWESOME i appreciate, that thanks Mister Mimus. Showtime but they've
- 30:17Speaker 1: got this new Biz marquee documentary Called All up in The,
- 30:20Speaker 1: biz which is pretty damn. GOOD i haven't seen all of.
- 30:23Speaker 1: IT i like The Ricky powell. Thing it pops up
- 30:26Speaker 1: And i'm just like sucked into. It i'll watch it
- 30:28Speaker 1: all before the next time we, speak just BECAUSE i
- 30:31Speaker 1: really started to get into it last, night and and
- 30:33Speaker 1: it dawned on. Me you, know there's this you, KNOW
- 30:37Speaker 1: i don't know if the programming here From showtime with
- 30:39Speaker 1: Biz marque and The Rocky powell thing is because we're
- 30:43Speaker 1: we're circling we're still circling this fifty years Of Hip
- 30:46Speaker 1: hop anniversary thing or. Not but it dawned on me
- 30:49Speaker 1: and watching these, docs especially the Biz marque, one THAT
- 30:55Speaker 1: i just think it's so great that we. Are these
- 30:58Speaker 1: docs come out and a lot of them tell the
- 31:01Speaker 1: same stories or they tell different versions of anecdotes from
- 31:06Speaker 1: hip hop, history WHICH i think is very important because
- 31:11Speaker 1: we've been beaten over the heads OR i, have at
- 31:14Speaker 1: least in people my, age with the sort of punk
- 31:17Speaker 1: rock and classic rock music history, lore and we know
- 31:21Speaker 1: all these stories about The ramones getting, together all the
- 31:24Speaker 1: stories about The stones and Led zeppelin or The Sex
- 31:27Speaker 1: pistols Or nirvana or. Whatever this stuff is like it's
- 31:32Speaker 1: well worn. Road it's been gone over in so many different.
- 31:37Speaker 1: Ways And i'm guilty of going over this stuff more
- 31:39Speaker 1: than once as. Well hip hop because it's a newer,
- 31:42Speaker 1: medium it's a newer form of, music and his history is,
- 31:45Speaker 1: newer has not had this, happen and they are all
- 31:47Speaker 1: these sort OF i hate this, phrase but these untold,
- 31:50Speaker 1: stories just a story About Marley morrow and The Juice,
- 31:54Speaker 1: crew and how these Guys Big Daddy, Kane, Bismarquis eric
- 32:00Speaker 1: b and Rock, keem how these guys all kind of
- 32:02Speaker 1: were in the same, orbit how they're jockeying to get
- 32:05Speaker 1: on these tracks and how this history took. SHAPE i,
- 32:09Speaker 1: mean this stuff is very. Compelling these stories are super,
- 32:12Speaker 1: interesting and they're part of hip hop, lore and they
- 32:14Speaker 1: deserve to be as prevalent in sort of the historical
- 32:20Speaker 1: rear view as are stories about punk rock and classic rock. Are, maybe,
- 32:24Speaker 1: though the problem isn't one of disseminating this. Information maybe
- 32:28Speaker 1: the problem is my lens and HOW i look through
- 32:32Speaker 1: it and sort of where it takes, me where it
- 32:34Speaker 1: has taken. Me but all this is to say that
- 32:37Speaker 1: all this hip hop content that's being released right, NOW
- 32:40Speaker 1: i think it's. GREAT i love. It i'm here for,
- 32:43Speaker 1: it And i'm happy to add our own content From
- 32:47Speaker 1: disgraceland onto this pile as. Well you guys are going
