- 0:00Speaker 1: The professor prevails in Mategui, while the rookies errors cost
- 0:04Speaker 1: him his first Grand Prix victory twice. I'm your host,
- 0:08Speaker 1: Rnita Vanmullen, and today we've got the Motor GP Ninja
- 0:11Speaker 1: of Knowledge mac Layton Matt. I feel like we have
- 0:15Speaker 1: to start with Saturday and talk about Pedro Acosta taking pole,
- 0:20Speaker 1: huge step for the rookie, and then also the first
- 0:23Speaker 1: time I think we've had all year, three different manufacturers
- 0:26Speaker 1: on the front row. It's so exciting to see these
- 0:29Speaker 1: changes happening in the grid.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Yeah, it was cool Pedro Acosta on pole, Vanya second
- 0:34Speaker 2: Vignales thirty. Okay, we've had this season that's been so
- 0:38Speaker 2: massively dominated by a decady that it was nice to
- 0:40Speaker 2: see some variety up the front. But that was a
- 0:43Speaker 2: very very cool qualifying session because you had this looming
- 0:46Speaker 2: specter of rain the entire time. It looked like Mark
- 0:49Speaker 2: Barkes had pulled just a supernatural lap out of the bag,
- 0:52Speaker 2: and then it turns out that he breaks track limits
- 0:55Speaker 2: at turn four and the message was slow getting to him,
- 0:57Speaker 2: so he didn't have a chance for a second lap.
- 1:00Speaker 2: At the end of the day, you end up with
- 1:01Speaker 2: Pedro Acosta on pole and he's been a little bit
- 1:04Speaker 2: wasn't so anonymous, but he certainly cooled down from how
- 1:06Speaker 2: well he started the season. And remember Austria was terrible.
- 1:09Speaker 2: He's berating himself and angry with everybody and everything that
- 1:13Speaker 2: we've got a taste of this in Indonesia the previous week.
- 1:16Speaker 2: And then to seek him put a bike on pole that,
- 1:19Speaker 2: let's face it, it's not really a bike that should be
- 1:21Speaker 2: on pole on merit, and he's a rookie and he
- 1:24Speaker 2: goes and sticks it on pole at a track that
- 1:26Speaker 2: he's clearly never ridden a Motor GP bike before against
- 1:28Speaker 2: all of those decaddees. So so impressive, and it just
- 1:32Speaker 2: shows you why everyone's so excited about what this kid
- 1:35Speaker 2: could do. Because I don't know about you, but it
- 1:37Speaker 2: doesn't look like it's some one off, does it. It
- 1:39Speaker 2: looks completely repeatable that you wouldn't be shocked at all
- 1:42Speaker 2: if he got another pole or two before the end
- 1:43Speaker 2: of the season. I just think he's that good.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Oh for sure, he's going to get a podium and
- 1:48Speaker 1: a win. Sorry, he's going to get his Motor GP
- 1:50Speaker 1: win in his rookie year. It's inevitable. It's got to
- 1:54Speaker 1: have to happen because it's Pedro Acosta, right.
- 1:57Speaker 2: It feels like it when you consider what he's riding
- 1:59Speaker 2: relative to I mean, look, the Catty's not only got
- 2:02Speaker 2: strength of numbers with eight of them, but they're clearly
- 2:04Speaker 2: the best spike. We've talked about this a few times,
- 2:06Speaker 2: and you have to look at what a cost is
- 2:08Speaker 2: doing relative to super experienced guys like Brad Binder and
- 2:12Speaker 2: Jack Miller on the same machinery. Now he's behind Binder
- 2:15Speaker 2: in the standings for reasons that we'll get to it
- 2:17Speaker 2: later in this podcast. But you cannot help but be
- 2:20Speaker 2: impressed with his rookie season because he came in with
- 2:24Speaker 2: so much hype after winning mto three, Moto two. But
- 2:27Speaker 2: you know, when someone comes in with that much expectation,
- 2:30Speaker 2: they can only kind of disappoint, if you know what
- 2:31Speaker 2: I mean, if they're not great from day one. But
- 2:34Speaker 2: we saw those first two or three races when he
- 2:36Speaker 2: was on the podium and he's finishing strong, and look,
- 2:39Speaker 2: you know, we do have to talk about what happened
- 2:41Speaker 2: over the course of the weekend because you'll beating himself
- 2:43Speaker 2: up for it. But at the end of the day,
- 2:45Speaker 2: he ticks so many boxes this rookie season, and yeah,
- 2:49Speaker 2: I mean he's running out of chances to get that
- 2:50Speaker 2: first win in twenty twenty four, it wouldn't be a surprise.
- 2:53Speaker 2: But once he's in that factory KTM team next year,
- 2:56Speaker 2: I think that's going to lift that entire organization up
- 2:59Speaker 2: and maybe they had a big challenger to Decanty next year.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Well, you mentioned Q two and I want to talk
- 3:04Speaker 1: on that a little bit because it was super interesting
- 3:07Speaker 1: in the fact that Joe Martin had his worst qualifying
- 3:10Speaker 1: I think since was it twenty twenty three that you
- 3:14Speaker 1: don't expect that from him. So my thought, and I
- 3:17Speaker 1: know I've been saying this so much, but is it
- 3:19Speaker 1: the pressure? Was it just mategi because there was like
- 3:22Speaker 1: so many unknowns of was it the weather getting that
- 3:25Speaker 1: file lap in? Was it that needed to be happened
- 3:28Speaker 1: at the beginning of the session? Did he leave it
- 3:30Speaker 1: too late? What is going on with Joje Martin in
- 3:33Speaker 1: that Q two because it's so unlike him.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a little bit. It's felt inevitable that
- 3:39Speaker 2: more of them were going to go down because that
- 3:41Speaker 2: was such a weird Q two because normally you see
- 3:44Speaker 2: the way Q two develops and that everyone will get
- 3:46Speaker 2: a banker lap in on that first run, they'll build
- 3:48Speaker 2: to the ball, they'll leave it all out there on
- 3:50Speaker 2: that last lap. But it felt like every single corner
- 3:54Speaker 2: of every single lap, the weather was variable. It wasn't
- 3:57Speaker 2: like it was starting bad and getting worse. It was
- 3:59Speaker 2: very So is there a bit of raid on your visor?
- 4:02Speaker 2: Is there not? Is it threatening in some parts? Is
- 4:04Speaker 2: it threatening in other parts? And you see the aerial
- 4:07Speaker 2: shot of that twin ring Motigui layout, it's over such
- 4:10Speaker 2: a vast area because you've got the IndyCar oval there
- 4:13Speaker 2: and so the circuits super spread out, you can have
- 4:15Speaker 2: totally different weather in one end of the track than
- 4:17Speaker 2: the other. So combination of really strange track conditions and
- 4:22Speaker 2: air conditions and the nature of that track where it's
- 4:25Speaker 2: a lot of big stops into hairpins, I think it
- 4:28Speaker 2: was inevitable that someone was to come off. Now the
- 4:30Speaker 2: fact that it was Martin, he's normally so volcanic over
- 4:34Speaker 2: one lap, we'd seen what Marquez had done earlier in
- 4:38Speaker 2: that session, perhaps a little bit of pressure. But what
- 4:40Speaker 2: was strange for me is that everything leading up to
- 4:43Speaker 2: qualifying it kind of felt like of the two title protagonists.
- 4:46Speaker 2: It felt like Pecot was on the back foot a
- 4:47Speaker 2: little bit and he was the one that came through.
- 4:50Speaker 2: And I do wonder if that's going to be a
- 4:52Speaker 2: theme over these next four races with Martin holding the advantage.
- 4:56Speaker 2: But I think, and we've said this before, I think
- 4:58Speaker 2: I have more trust in Banoya to make fewer mistakes.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Now.
- 5:02Speaker 2: I know that sounds weird for a guy to had
- 5:03Speaker 2: seventy nfs this year, but because he's been in a
- 5:06Speaker 2: couple of title fights already and he's won them, I
- 5:08Speaker 2: trust him to be a bit more solid in the
- 5:11Speaker 2: back end of races. And maybe Joje Martine's the guy
- 5:15Speaker 2: who's possibly faster but maybe more prone to making errors.
- 5:18Speaker 2: It's probably something to watch going forward. But yeah, it
- 5:22Speaker 2: was unusual to see him so far back on the grid,
- 5:24Speaker 2: But you've got to say he did a pretty good
- 5:26Speaker 2: job saving it, didn't they.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Yes, he made up a fair few positions, which we
- 5:31Speaker 1: will talk about the sprint and the race shortly. But
- 5:34Speaker 1: you mentioned earlier that Mark Marquez's poll lap disqualification. I
- 5:39Speaker 1: posted on the Fox Sports socials this social media screen
- 5:44Speaker 1: grab basically where Moto GP posted. You know, the rules
- 5:48Speaker 1: of the rules blah blah blah, and you can see
- 5:50Speaker 1: where Mark's blake goes on there, and then Mark commented that, going, yeah,
- 5:54Speaker 1: but the timing is the timing, and you could see
- 5:56Speaker 1: he was so frustrated with the fact that it took
- 5:59Speaker 1: so long for the stewards to get that notification to him.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Do you think that it was fair or should it
- 6:07Speaker 1: have been a much quicker response from the stewards.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Look, I think it should have been a much quicker response.
- 6:12Speaker 2: I don't think they are denying that, and I don't
- 6:15Speaker 2: think Mark's denying that he ran onto the green and
- 6:17Speaker 2: it was a track limits violation either. I think both
- 6:19Speaker 2: agreed with the sentiment. But the timing of when that
- 6:21Speaker 2: message was delivered there was some sort of software or
- 6:24Speaker 2: electronics glitch or something someone's probably trying to install, like
- 6:27Speaker 2: a new iPhone update in the background or something who knows,
- 6:29Speaker 2: But you know, when you've already got a roll at
- 6:31Speaker 2: clock at a fifty buet Q two session, you can't
- 6:34Speaker 2: have delays like this. So here he was thinking that
- 6:37Speaker 2: he was on pole and then the lap got scrubbed
- 6:39Speaker 2: and he was nine that he didn't have a chance
- 6:40Speaker 2: to do anything about it. So look, just one of
- 6:43Speaker 2: those weird technical things that it shouldn't go wrong in
- 6:47Speaker 2: top level sport, but it does. The stewards explained what
- 6:50Speaker 2: had happened, and they said they'll try a nine it
- 6:52Speaker 2: out so it doesn't happen again. But you know you're
- 6:54Speaker 2: going to have situations like this where things fail. It's
- 6:57Speaker 2: just you don't want them to fail at that moment.
- 6:59Speaker 2: So it was a The problem was a problem of timing,
- 7:02Speaker 2: not the fact that there was some sort of dispute
- 7:03Speaker 2: that he broach track limits or the fact that the
- 7:05Speaker 2: penalty needed to be given. It was just a timing
- 7:07Speaker 2: thing and unfortunate for markus. My goodness, that was a
- 7:11Speaker 2: lap when you consider what it is that he's writing.
- 7:13Speaker 2: And I love watching him about you, but I love
- 7:16Speaker 2: watching him in those conditions where everyone's a little bit unsure.
- 7:20Speaker 2: You know, we see guys going out on their outlaps
- 7:23Speaker 2: in there, dragging their foot along the ground to trouble
- 7:24Speaker 2: work out how wet it is. I love watching him
- 7:26Speaker 2: in situations like that because he's always been a guy
- 7:29Speaker 2: that's just all right. There's only one way to find
- 7:31Speaker 2: out where the group is. Let's go and attack it
- 7:32Speaker 2: and just live on my wit it's it's super fun
- 7:35Speaker 2: to watch, but in the end, a bit like Juje Martine,
- 7:38Speaker 2: like he was way further back on the grid that
- 7:39Speaker 2: he should have been, But it didn't really affect his
- 7:42Speaker 2: weekend too much because of how well he.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Recovered Saturday's sprint. It's hard to not talk about peker
- 7:50Speaker 1: van Yaya's starts at the moment because we see him
- 7:52Speaker 1: in these his practice starts and it looks like he's struggling,
- 7:55Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden it comes to the
- 7:56Speaker 1: Grand Prix, he just gets the whole shot every time.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Those two caddies are insane. But then we had the
- 8:01Speaker 1: opposite happen with Maverick Vinalez who got the terrible sart
- 8:06Speaker 1: and just like blended into the back of the field.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Well did it twice, did it on Saturday and Sunday.
- 8:11Speaker 2: And my understanding was the Saturday problem was that the
- 8:15Speaker 2: rear ride height device didn't disengage properly, which we've heard
- 8:19Speaker 2: that a number of times. And I don't think there's
- 8:21Speaker 2: going to be that many people too worried about when
- 8:23Speaker 2: they leave the sports. I'm not sure exactly what they're
- 8:25Speaker 2: adding at this point. If everyone's got them and everyone's
- 8:28Speaker 2: theoretically making the same start. Then we're just investing a
- 8:31Speaker 2: heap of money into something that's not really helping the show.
- 8:34Speaker 2: That's another podcast, I think. But yeah, Vignalez, the race
- 8:37Speaker 2: started and he went from the front row and we
- 8:39Speaker 2: barely saw him again except for what he crashed on
- 8:42Speaker 2: Sunday is just you know, a black bike down in
- 8:44Speaker 2: the gravel. So it was a weird one because he
- 8:47Speaker 2: hasn't been up the front in qualifying for a fair while,
- 8:49Speaker 2: and like you said, it's like, oh, this is good.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Three manufacturers on the front, maybe we're going to get
- 8:53Speaker 2: a diverse race. But he was out of the equation
- 8:56Speaker 2: pretty quickly because of that ride height device I mentioned
- 8:59Speaker 2: before on Saturday and then crashed out on Sunday. And
- 9:02Speaker 2: I think where you're going next? And I haven't seen
- 9:04Speaker 2: your run sheet here, so I'm just projecting. I think
- 9:06Speaker 2: the next two words on your run sheet might be
- 9:08Speaker 2: Pedro Acosta, because we do have to talk about what
- 9:11Speaker 2: happened to the pole sitter, don't we.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Well. I heard on the coverage that he's running the
- 9:15Speaker 1: chassis that Brad Benda was testing, and Brad didn't like it.
- 9:19Speaker 1: But I wanted to ask you, is that what you
- 9:21Speaker 1: think is helping propel Pedro Acosta. Does he seem to
- 9:25Speaker 1: just be gelling with this new Chaffi. But then obviously
- 9:29Speaker 1: what happened, what happened crashed out of the lead. Is
- 9:32Speaker 1: that just like I said, the intro was at just
- 9:34Speaker 1: a rookie error A little bit.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, on the first part, I was curious
- 9:40Speaker 2: to hear Herbet Poncherraal speaking to Simon Crafar on the
- 9:43Speaker 2: coverage where they said that after Aragon they've stopped throwing
- 9:46Speaker 2: so many new bits at Pedro and the bike to
- 9:49Speaker 2: test because Katim's always trying to push the envelope and
- 9:52Speaker 2: bring updates, and it got to the point where I
- 9:54Speaker 2: think he was almost trying too much stuff without you know,
- 9:58Speaker 2: being remembering what it was that he'd tried and how
- 10:00Speaker 2: he tried it. I remember he mentioned in the Messano
- 10:02Speaker 2: test he said we tried this, and I think that
- 10:04Speaker 2: was the second run, but maybe it was the third
- 10:06Speaker 2: run and I can't remember. And then there was something else,
- 10:08Speaker 2: and they're throwing so much stuff at him that maybe
- 10:10Speaker 2: they've stripped it back and said all right, here is
- 10:12Speaker 2: a bike, go and work with this, go and understand this.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Find out where the performance envelope goes, and he just
- 10:19Speaker 2: seems to have been a lot more settled since then.
- 10:22Speaker 2: We saw how good he was in Indonesia, as I
- 10:23Speaker 2: mentioned earlier, but in terms of the sprint and the
- 10:26Speaker 2: Grand Prix, I mean the sprint was the one that
- 10:29Speaker 2: surprised me a little bit because you would have thought
- 10:31Speaker 2: starting on pole in motor GP race for the first time,
- 10:34Speaker 2: all right, bit of pressure in the early lapse, but
- 10:37Speaker 2: he had a pretty comfortable lee before he crashed out
- 10:39Speaker 2: with three laps left, and I reckon that one was
- 10:42Speaker 2: done simply because Bagnal was second and not really going
- 10:46Speaker 2: to push hard enough to risk for a minimal number
- 10:48Speaker 2: of points where he's got a championship deficit to think about.
- 10:51Speaker 2: So the race was there for a costa to lose,
- 10:54Speaker 2: and he managed to lose it, probably by over pushing
- 10:57Speaker 2: a little bit. He had a comfortable margin, he was
- 10:58Speaker 2: trying to make it more comfortable. That's just an inexperienced thing,
- 11:02Speaker 2: perhaps being a bit anxious for that first win. But
- 11:05Speaker 2: the Sunday race, where he'd been beaten into term one
- 11:07Speaker 2: by Vanyaya, he had second place pretty comfortable at that
- 11:11Speaker 2: point because as we mentioned, before Martina Marquez was so
- 11:14Speaker 2: far in the pack that they had to fight their
- 11:16Speaker 2: way through. So it wasn't a comfortable second place, but
- 11:19Speaker 2: it was a second place you could consolidate on and
- 11:21Speaker 2: then see what happened in the back half of the race.
- 11:24Speaker 2: And then not even three laps it, he's down at
- 11:26Speaker 2: the last corner and managed to continue on for a
- 11:28Speaker 2: little bit. I think he kept going hoping there might
- 11:31Speaker 2: have been a flag to flag and he could have
- 11:32Speaker 2: come in and changed bikes and see what happened there.
- 11:34Speaker 2: But such a disappointment to leave motigue with no points,
- 11:39Speaker 2: given how good he was for the whole weekend, and
- 11:42Speaker 2: you know, he said he was just sad after the race.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Like the good thing with him is he's pretty unfiltered
- 11:47Speaker 2: when it comes to when he does his media and
- 11:50Speaker 2: that sort of thing, and there's no hiding how disappointed
- 11:53Speaker 2: he was. And it's good that he's disappointed, because you
- 11:55Speaker 2: get the sense that once he gets away from the weekend,
- 11:58Speaker 2: he'll look at how that panned out. It's like, I've
- 12:00Speaker 2: got no points here, but I've taken pole. It's still
- 12:03Speaker 2: a successful weekend despite the lack of points, but it's
- 12:06Speaker 2: already a successful weekend, if you don't make the same
- 12:07Speaker 2: mistakes next time you're in that situation. So the next
- 12:10Speaker 2: time he gets up the front, I don't think if
- 12:12Speaker 2: it doesn't go well, I don't think it's going to
- 12:14Speaker 2: because of that. Let's say that.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I think he's going to learn those lessons and
- 12:19Speaker 1: the mistakes that he made. He'll go and assess everything
- 12:23Speaker 1: and what I feel like I'm learning about Pedro And
- 12:25Speaker 1: I guess you can agree or disagree, but it seems
- 12:28Speaker 1: like he is a very methodical writer and is almost
- 12:32Speaker 1: like an old soul when it comes to his riding
- 12:34Speaker 1: and the bike and understanding. Where quite often you'd see
- 12:37Speaker 1: these rookies come in and I'm interested to see next
- 12:41Speaker 1: year with these motoritude guys who are stepping up, is
- 12:43Speaker 1: how much it is just like full gaass flat out
- 12:46Speaker 1: where Pedro seems to be. He's so involved with the development, understanding,
- 12:50Speaker 1: working with the engineers and everything that it's almost like
- 12:54Speaker 1: he's a different generation writer. He shouldn't be so young.
- 12:57Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, completely, like he's got an old head on
- 12:59Speaker 2: young shoulders. The thing I like about him too is
- 13:02Speaker 2: he's really accountable in that he's not going to be
- 13:04Speaker 2: one of these guys that looks for a million excuses
- 13:06Speaker 2: to blame everything under other than himself. He's very much
- 13:10Speaker 2: in the moment. He'll put his hand up and say,
- 13:12Speaker 2: I stuffed up here. Now we move on to the next.
- 13:15Speaker 2: But it's good that he there's a real care factor
- 13:19Speaker 2: there because he is so invested, like he's impatient, which
- 13:22Speaker 2: all the great writers are. You have to remember, this
- 13:24Speaker 2: kid's still twenty years old. But there's a degree of
- 13:27Speaker 2: accountability there that I like. And you see this in
- 13:30Speaker 2: all forms of motorsports. Sometimes it's a bit I win,
- 13:33Speaker 2: but you lose or we lose, and there's a deflection
- 13:36Speaker 2: of accountability there. He's very quick to put his hand
- 13:39Speaker 2: up when it's his mistake, even if sometimes there might
- 13:41Speaker 2: be extenuating circumstances. So long term, as much as matigue
- 13:45Speaker 2: is going to hurt, I think it's going to hold
- 13:46Speaker 2: him in good stead because yeah, he would just learn
- 13:48Speaker 2: from his mistakes, and he's that mature old soul as
- 13:52Speaker 2: you were saying before, and I'd be very surprised if
- 13:55Speaker 2: he did the same thing twice in the future.
- 13:57Speaker 1: I just want to also mention and we'll move on
- 13:59Speaker 1: from Pedro shortly, but I loved how in the Thursday
- 14:02Speaker 1: press conference. Afterwards, Motor GP posted how he was saying
- 14:06Speaker 1: that Johe Martin and Peco Banyaya need to create more
- 14:10Speaker 1: entertainment for everyone. I thought that was hilarious. And then
- 14:14Speaker 1: after the sprint, I think it was Lewis Sudderby said
- 14:19Speaker 1: I'm so sorry. I said, how you haven't put a
- 14:22Speaker 1: tire wrong or race and then you tucked the front.
- 14:24Speaker 1: And then Pedro looks directly down the camera and was like, commentators,
- 14:28Speaker 1: just don't mention my name in Sunday's grom pre please,
- 14:31Speaker 1: I don't want the commentator curse.
- 14:33Speaker 2: He's I love this kid's krismus because he's so unfiltered
- 14:37Speaker 2: about everything. You get the sense that you know, he's
- 14:39Speaker 2: pretty similar to the way he is on camera when
- 14:42Speaker 2: he's off camera. There's just one speed with him and
- 14:44Speaker 2: he says what he thinks. But that was Lewis Sardaby.
- 14:47Speaker 2: I felt you're always flirting with dangerous a commentator when
- 14:50Speaker 2: you start mentioning things like that, And he wasn't saying
- 14:52Speaker 2: anything that was untrue. He had been absolutely flawless to
- 14:55Speaker 2: that point, and no, sir, in that sentence come out
- 14:58Speaker 2: of his mouth that a Costa was in the grad
- 15:00Speaker 2: so yeah, ultimate commentator's curse there. That was horrible.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Let's touch on Jack Miller. So Saturday Sprint PA, first
- 15:07Speaker 1: KTM across the line thanks to obviously Pedro crashing out
- 15:12Speaker 1: and that weird technical error that happened with Bradbinder's bike,
- 15:16Speaker 1: and then p ten on Sunday. I guess, is this
- 15:20Speaker 1: the boost of confidence that Jack needs heading into the
- 15:23Speaker 1: rest of the year.
- 15:25Speaker 2: The start on Sunday, if you've gone back and watched it.
- 15:28Speaker 2: I actually went and watched the onboard. It's a bit
- 15:30Speaker 2: like a video game in it. He went from fourteenth
- 15:32Speaker 2: on the grid to fifth on lap one and he
- 15:35Speaker 2: just decided, I'm going to stick to the inside line here,
- 15:37Speaker 2: and I'm going to run a really really tight line
- 15:40Speaker 2: and where everyone's elbowing each other and carrying on the
- 15:43Speaker 2: first lap and we can talk about Juan mir and
- 15:45Speaker 2: Alex Marquez a little bit later on. He looked up
- 15:47Speaker 2: and he said afterwards, holy shit, I'm in fifth place.
- 15:50Speaker 2: It was just like the greatest analysis of all time.
- 15:52Speaker 2: It's like, how did I do that? And look, the
- 15:55Speaker 2: KTM is not a bike that should be fighting up
- 15:58Speaker 2: in those positions for anyone than Pedro Acosta. At the moment,
- 16:01Speaker 2: there was always a sense he was going to regress
- 16:04Speaker 2: to the meme, but put a couple of nice passes
- 16:06Speaker 2: on Marquez and Bastianini and looked pretty decent and it's
- 16:09Speaker 2: settled to where it probably should have been by the end.
- 16:12Speaker 2: I think he was probably a bit disappointed that he
- 16:14Speaker 2: lost that place to Elasias Bagaro on the second last lap.
- 16:16Speaker 2: He looked like he had that covered. But look top
- 16:19Speaker 2: ten finish in the sprint in the Grand Prix. It's
- 16:21Speaker 2: not often we've said that.
- 16:23Speaker 1: This year.
- 16:23Speaker 2: It's the third double top ten of the year Portugal
- 16:25Speaker 2: and San Marino with the other two, so definitely heading
- 16:28Speaker 2: in the right direction. I think he was super frustrated
- 16:31Speaker 2: on Saturday because he just keeps getting knocked out in
- 16:34Speaker 2: Q one, where you look at who's in Q one,
- 16:37Speaker 2: you're thinking, all right, he should be a guy that
- 16:38Speaker 2: comes through here and just made a mistake at the
- 16:41Speaker 2: end of Q one, and the difference between qualifying on
- 16:44Speaker 2: the first three rows and qualifying further back is yeah,
- 16:46Speaker 2: we know the KT gets off the line really well.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Jack's one of the best guys on the GRIT on
- 16:51Speaker 2: first laps but you're giving yourself so much to do
- 16:55Speaker 2: this weekend up paid off where he had that mega
- 16:56Speaker 2: first lap seven days before that, he was on the
- 16:59Speaker 2: ground three corners because he's just in the jungle of
- 17:01Speaker 2: the mid pack as they thunder through the first few corners.
- 17:04Speaker 2: So a Q two appearance, I mean, look, Phillip Island
- 17:06Speaker 2: is somewhere he's generally qualified pretty well and he always
- 17:09Speaker 2: starts well there. We've seen that several times, even going
- 17:12Speaker 2: back to the older second tier Honda days. He was
- 17:14Speaker 2: got off the start at Philip Island. But you've just
- 17:17Speaker 2: got to get out of Q one because the depth
- 17:19Speaker 2: of MotoGP at the moment. There's seriously good guys in
- 17:22Speaker 2: Q one and we don't see it as much because
- 17:24Speaker 2: the TV coverage focuses on the front, but it's madness
- 17:28Speaker 2: back there on the first lap, and the risk taking
- 17:30Speaker 2: because people know how these races go now is pretty
- 17:33Speaker 2: severe back there. So you know, in seven days he
- 17:35Speaker 2: got the he went from zero to hero in seven
- 17:38Speaker 2: days on the first lap. But look, double top ten
- 17:40Speaker 2: as good as it can get at the moment, and yeah,
- 17:43Speaker 2: at least things are looking positive ahead of Philip Island
- 17:45Speaker 2: for him.
- 17:46Speaker 1: Did you see those photos that we posted on the
- 17:49Speaker 1: Fox socials of the Vader seas or the vapor trails
- 17:53Speaker 1: coming on. Yes, how incredible is that taken by Gareth
- 17:57Speaker 1: Harford who's a motor GP photographer. If he's been captured before.
- 18:01Speaker 1: I think it might have a few years ago with Zako,
- 18:04Speaker 1: but you could really see how the arrow is coming
- 18:08Speaker 1: into play makes it that's what you seek.
- 18:11Speaker 2: Yeah, there were some really interesting stuff with Jack on Saturday.
- 18:13Speaker 2: He had those amazing photos which was a combination of
- 18:15Speaker 2: the light being dull enough that you could see and
- 18:17Speaker 2: this huge humidity because it looked like it was about
- 18:20Speaker 2: to rain the entire time and never quite did, so
- 18:22Speaker 2: those photos were amazing. But I don't know if you
- 18:25Speaker 2: saw on the coverage the slow mo shot of Jack
- 18:27Speaker 2: coming out of that big stop at the end of
- 18:29Speaker 2: the back straight there with the chassis twisting and bucking
- 18:33Speaker 2: and vibrating. And every time he comes into a media
- 18:36Speaker 2: debrief he always talks about the vibration through the chassis
- 18:38Speaker 2: and we haven't been able to get on top of
- 18:40Speaker 2: it during the year. And someone brought up that that
- 18:43Speaker 2: slow mo shot had gone out on the world feed
- 18:45Speaker 2: through Q one and he looked at everyone said, see,
- 18:47Speaker 2: I'm not making this up, like this is exactly what
- 18:49Speaker 2: we've been dealing with for the last ten months ever
- 18:51Speaker 2: since that new re attire went in. It's just so
- 18:54Speaker 2: the performance of that retire is so strong and so
- 18:56Speaker 2: powerful that that bike looks like a super handful getting
- 18:59Speaker 2: back on the gas. And that's what he's been saying
- 19:01Speaker 2: all year. If you're doing that corner by corner lap
- 19:04Speaker 2: by lap, someone like a Coster maybe who's never ridden
- 19:07Speaker 2: abotor GP bike before, you know, he doesn't necessarily know
- 19:10Speaker 2: any different. So it's almost sometimes it's better to not
- 19:13Speaker 2: know what's going on, where someone like Jack or Brad
- 19:16Speaker 2: Binder or some of the more experienced guys on that
- 19:18Speaker 2: bike are like, hang on, it wasn't like this before,
- 19:21Speaker 2: but it was Jack saying on Saturday, So I'm not
- 19:23Speaker 2: making this shit up. This is actually real. So yeah,
- 19:26Speaker 2: it was quite funny to see that.
- 19:27Speaker 1: I think. Yeah, even from like a technical standpoint, it
- 19:30Speaker 1: was really cool to witness because you hear these writers
- 19:32Speaker 1: talking about chatter a lot, and I guess it's someone
- 19:35Speaker 1: who doesn't understand the bikes or what's going on. You're like,
- 19:38Speaker 1: what's his chatter? Like I don't understand that. And then
- 19:40Speaker 1: you see that bouncing and like you said, corner after corner.
- 19:43Speaker 1: If that's happening, no wonder. They're losing the drive, they're
- 19:48Speaker 1: losing corner entry, they're losing the speed everything that comes
- 19:50Speaker 1: along with it. But yeah, I guess for Jacket it
- 19:53Speaker 1: was really cool to see and cool to see even
- 19:56Speaker 1: the commentators talk about, like, oh my god, look at
- 19:59Speaker 1: what's happening to his US sixteen right now. So I
- 20:01Speaker 1: love those supersomos on the I.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Could watch those soups. I'm a massive nerd for the
- 20:06Speaker 2: super SlowMo camera. I got a bit. I love watching
- 20:08Speaker 2: those things because the just the detail that you get
- 20:11Speaker 2: to see with everything slowed down that much that it's
- 20:13Speaker 2: impossible for the naked eye to see. And I find
- 20:16Speaker 2: myself watching them a couple of times because you're looking
- 20:18Speaker 2: at what the front of the bike's doing. You look
- 20:19Speaker 2: at what the back of the bike's doing when it's
- 20:21Speaker 2: dull like it wasn't Motigi. I love the clear visors
- 20:24Speaker 2: so you can see where the rider's eyes are. That's
- 20:26Speaker 2: always a really cool thing to watch on the coverage
- 20:28Speaker 2: as well. So yeah, super slowo camera, big tick in
- 20:31Speaker 2: this household big tick.
- 20:33Speaker 1: But let's move on to Sunday's from Prix so we
- 20:35Speaker 1: can tick that one off the list. You mentioned it earlier.
- 20:38Speaker 1: I was going to bring up straight away what a
- 20:40Speaker 1: bizarre crash between Alex Marquez and Johan Mia. I know
- 20:44Speaker 1: that Alex has been given that penalty, but the way
- 20:47Speaker 1: that his bike was stuck under John Muir's Honda, that
- 20:51Speaker 1: was just so so weird.
- 20:53Speaker 2: I'm not I'm not sure I've seen a crash like
- 20:55Speaker 2: that where another bike attaches itself to a bike with
- 20:58Speaker 2: a rider still on it and get dragged the entire
- 21:01Speaker 2: way through this at the gravel trap and Juami managed
- 21:04Speaker 2: to stay upright while towing Alex Marquez's riderless Deckatti behind
- 21:08Speaker 2: him through a gravel trap. It was absolutely bizarre, and
- 21:11Speaker 2: Mira ended up falling off, which Mir and foleyoff as
- 21:14Speaker 2: a common theme on this podcast. For those of you
- 21:15Speaker 2: playing podcasts Bingo at home, that's twelvety and f's for
- 21:18Speaker 2: Jeanmir this year out of thirty. It's pretty grim for him,
- 21:21Speaker 2: but this one wasn't his fault because he got just
- 21:23Speaker 2: completely rammed up the back by Alex Marquez. And nobody
- 21:27Speaker 2: was happy after that because Jeanmir was saying, it's not
- 21:29Speaker 2: the first time he's done it, and I want an
- 21:31Speaker 2: apology and this is ridiculous. And to be fair to him,
- 21:34Speaker 2: he'd actually had a really good start because he qualified
- 21:36Speaker 2: down the back and he was already nibbling around the
- 21:38Speaker 2: fringes of the top ten. But Alex Marquez was pretty
- 21:41Speaker 2: filthy because he's got a long lap for Australia and
- 21:44Speaker 2: he was saying, all right, so I got taken out
- 21:46Speaker 2: by another rider's bike in just seven days ago when
- 21:49Speaker 2: Jack Miller's Katim skittled everyone on the first lap. There
- 21:52Speaker 2: no penalty for Miller, which I did agree with to
- 21:54Speaker 2: be fair, because it was Jack had made his own
- 21:56Speaker 2: mistake and Jack Spike had taken somebody out. Alex Marquez
- 21:59Speaker 2: ran straight up the back of Juan Mir and fell
- 22:02Speaker 2: off his own bike, So I'm not sure he's got
- 22:04Speaker 2: a leg to stand on with complaining about the penalty.
- 22:06Speaker 2: But yeah, I think if Alex Marquez gets through lap
- 22:09Speaker 2: one at Philip Isle and they probably should be like
- 22:11Speaker 2: a round of applause or something, because the last two
- 22:13Speaker 2: races he's got all the way to Indonesia, all the
- 22:15Speaker 2: way to Japan. I think he did three corners in
- 22:17Speaker 2: one race and about ten in the other, so a
- 22:19Speaker 2: lot of travel for not much reward for Alex Marquez.
- 22:22Speaker 2: But the trivia nuts noticed that there were seven decatties
- 22:27Speaker 2: in the top eight finishes. His was the only one
- 22:29Speaker 2: that wasn't, so a bit of variety for Alex. Thank
- 22:32Speaker 2: you for providing that, if not anything.
- 22:33Speaker 1: Else, well exactly because Mark then said in the post
- 22:37Speaker 1: race press conference the big Debrie Storry to Simon krafas
- 22:40Speaker 1: super boring race, and we're like, yeah, apart from that
- 22:42Speaker 1: crash that happened earlier on and maybe Vignalas and then
- 22:45Speaker 1: Pedro Acosta, there was nothing else that really happened in
- 22:49Speaker 1: Sunday's Grand Prix.
- 22:49Speaker 2: Right, it was super frustrating because it felt like it
- 22:53Speaker 2: felt like something was about to happen for twenty four
- 22:56Speaker 2: laps it didn't actually happen. Let you go, oh, here
- 22:58Speaker 2: we go, this is going to happen. You got the
- 23:00Speaker 2: top four in the championship, in the top four positions
- 23:02Speaker 2: after about ten laps, after Martine and Marquez have worked
- 23:05Speaker 2: their way through, So thinking, all right, this thing's like
- 23:08Speaker 2: a you know, a sauce bent on the stove right now,
- 23:10Speaker 2: that's sibbery. You know, it's coming up to the boil, slowly, slowly,
- 23:13Speaker 2: but surely, and it never quite got there. And we
- 23:16Speaker 2: had the bit where the white flags came out. It's like, oh,
- 23:18Speaker 2: it's it going to be a bit of rain here?
- 23:19Speaker 2: Does someone have to be brave on some dry tires.
- 23:22Speaker 2: It almost became a good race for fourteen laps and
- 23:24Speaker 2: never actually did. And I've written something for Fox Sports
- 23:28Speaker 2: this morning on Monday here saying that, you know, Mark
- 23:31Speaker 2: Marquez kind of summed up what we all thought that
- 23:33Speaker 2: he just struck his shoulders and said it was a
- 23:35Speaker 2: super boring race, and he's not wrong. It's Look, it's
- 23:38Speaker 2: great that Banya has narrowed the championship deficit to ten
- 23:41Speaker 2: points now, because I'd be really surprised now if this
- 23:44Speaker 2: doesn't go to a last race showdown at Valencia, which
- 23:48Speaker 2: you know we've seen that in the last couple of years.
- 23:49Speaker 2: It's super tense, it's really really good TV. You find
- 23:53Speaker 2: out a lot about writers under stress in those sorts
- 23:55Speaker 2: of situations. But if the long term payoff is worth,
- 24:00Speaker 2: if Valenci is good, if we get a fantastic Malaysia,
- 24:02Speaker 2: and of course Australia in two weeks time, but I
- 24:05Speaker 2: don't think Japan's going to rank very highly on races
- 24:07Speaker 2: that I will rewatch again just to see if I
- 24:09Speaker 2: missed anything, because I'm fairly sure I saw everything I
- 24:12Speaker 2: needed to see.
- 24:13Speaker 1: Did you see Jojem Martin and Peco Banaya Mark Marquez
- 24:17Speaker 1: in that little room before they go out on the
- 24:19Speaker 1: podium and Peco? I think Mark said, what's the points gap?
- 24:23Speaker 1: Now Peco goes ten and then Peco goes joyes should
- 24:27Speaker 1: let me close the gap and then we go to
- 24:29Speaker 1: Valencia with zero points and just battle it out and
- 24:32Speaker 1: then Peco Sorry, Jem Martine was like, yeah, I'm keen.
- 24:37Speaker 2: And where that was funny too? Is you wonder how
- 24:39Speaker 2: that conversation goes if there's not a camera heaves dropping
- 24:41Speaker 2: on it as well? Because there's a performative aspect to
- 24:44Speaker 2: that green room before they go out on the podium too,
- 24:46Speaker 2: because they know everything they say and do is be
- 24:48Speaker 2: recorded and it's going to be broadcast. That was pretty funny,
- 24:50Speaker 2: but Peko put him on the spot there. But well,
- 24:53Speaker 2: I don't know about you. I don't mind necessarily a
- 24:55Speaker 2: championship where one manufacturer is doing so much winning. I mean,
- 24:59Speaker 2: Decadie's on my last thirteen Grand Prix. We've not seen this
- 25:01Speaker 2: since I think it was two thousand and one, two
- 25:03Speaker 2: thousand and two with Honda. It was the last time
- 25:05Speaker 2: a single manufacturer won this many races in a row.
- 25:08Speaker 2: I don't mind necessarily one manufacturer dominating if you get
- 25:12Speaker 2: a really live championship fight, which it feels like we're
- 25:15Speaker 2: going to get with banyor Martin for a second straight year.
- 25:18Speaker 2: But you've got all of these little ancillary stories in
- 25:21Speaker 2: that Martin's leaving Tocadi. Imagine if Dacadi dominate a season
- 25:25Speaker 2: like this and then Martin wins the championship and takes
- 25:27Speaker 2: number one and goes off to a prilier with it
- 25:29Speaker 2: like as a marketing exercise, that's a disaster. You've got
- 25:32Speaker 2: the Marquez situation where he's coming into bad YYS team
- 25:35Speaker 2: next year. So there's all these little subplots bubbling away
- 25:38Speaker 2: in the background that makes me think these last four
- 25:41Speaker 2: races will be pretty good. But yeah, the Sunday race
- 25:45Speaker 2: was nearly a good race for twenty four laps, but
- 25:47Speaker 2: not quite.
- 25:48Speaker 1: I guess one of the highlights that we could say
- 25:51Speaker 1: juhe Martin from p. Eleven to P second, P. Two
- 25:55Speaker 1: on Sunday and Mark Marquez from p. Nine to P. Three.
- 25:58Speaker 1: I love it when you see them coming through the pack, right.
- 26:01Speaker 2: So what you're saying is we should have reverse grid,
- 26:03Speaker 2: like just like a random wildcard reverse grid race. So
- 26:06Speaker 2: we'll start, you know, like one of the Hoddess probably
- 26:08Speaker 2: be on pole or something, and all the decadeies have
- 26:10Speaker 2: to start down the back. That would be kind of fun,
- 26:11Speaker 2: just to change things up.
- 26:12Speaker 1: The carnage. Oh could you imagine the carnage? Oh, so entertaining.
- 26:21Speaker 1: We're going to talk about Remy Gardner because he was
- 26:24Speaker 1: our wild card Aussie for Yamaha, filling in for the
- 26:28Speaker 1: injured cow crutch Low. Obviously, we know Yamaha this track
- 26:31Speaker 1: it doesn't really suit their bias because it's very stop
- 26:34Speaker 1: and go. But from what I heard and what he said,
- 26:37Speaker 1: it was a positive takeaway for the parts that he
- 26:40Speaker 1: was testing and giving a clearer understanding to Yamaha. Yeah.
- 26:44Speaker 2: Look, I mean I think when you have a wildcard
- 26:46Speaker 2: in a situation like this, and Remy's obviously not full
- 26:48Speaker 2: time in the series now, so everything's a little bit
- 26:51Speaker 2: alien to him, even though he's done these couple of
- 26:53Speaker 2: wild cards this year with cal Crushlow has been too
- 26:55Speaker 2: injured to do them. The job description is really different
- 26:58Speaker 2: on these weekends and that yes, she could look at
- 27:00Speaker 2: the standings to go. He was last on the greed,
- 27:02Speaker 2: he finished last in the sprint, he finished last than
- 27:03Speaker 2: the Grand Prix. But you're in your testing things in
- 27:07Speaker 2: a race environment, and if Yamaha are happy with the
- 27:10Speaker 2: jobless they've given you to do, and you've managed to
- 27:12Speaker 2: do that, then that's job done. As far as Rumi
- 27:15Speaker 2: is concerned, I'm sure he would have loved to have
- 27:16Speaker 2: had a soft tire in there and gone healthful leather
- 27:18Speaker 2: for fifteen laps to enjoy himself, to see where he
- 27:20Speaker 2: could have got. But you know what you're signing up
- 27:23Speaker 2: for when you're doing one of these wild cards, and
- 27:25Speaker 2: getting a chance to get on a motor GP bike
- 27:28Speaker 2: is not something that is afforded to too many people.
- 27:30Speaker 2: And probably he thought that he'd never get a chance
- 27:32Speaker 2: to again after finishing up with Katyeah in twenty twenty two,
- 27:35Speaker 2: so he came to Japan. He did the job for
- 27:37Speaker 2: a Japanese manufacturer and he will go back. He's got
- 27:40Speaker 2: a back to back to finish world superbikes at Esterilla
- 27:43Speaker 2: and Herrath. I think it is so five weekends in
- 27:45Speaker 2: a row on his bike, He's going to need a
- 27:47Speaker 2: rest after this.
- 27:47Speaker 1: I think Lucky he loves his job. We said that
- 27:50Speaker 1: in the last podcast, right, Lucky he loves what he
- 27:52Speaker 1: gets to do. Well, let's move on to Moto two
- 27:56Speaker 1: because monor Gping not the most exciting. Grand Prix two
- 28:00Speaker 1: was so many if but wrong tied choices, slicks, wets,
- 28:05Speaker 1: race restarts, red flagged. It was a lot to process.
- 28:09Speaker 2: I wish we'd had those conditions about an hour later,
- 28:13Speaker 2: just to throw a curveball in there, because it was
- 28:14Speaker 2: one of those. So Moto two they ondly have the
- 28:17Speaker 2: one bike, so there's no changing for wet weather bikes.
- 28:20Speaker 2: So they got halfway around the first lap and it
- 28:21Speaker 2: started pooring with rain randomly, so it was red flagged,
- 28:24Speaker 2: truncated race, and then it became a track that was
- 28:28Speaker 2: wet but drying, but no one knew how fast it
- 28:30Speaker 2: was drying because it was the sun. It was just
- 28:32Speaker 2: the heat and the humidity that might dry it up.
- 28:34Speaker 2: So it was one of those races where sort of
- 28:37Speaker 2: fortune favored the brave a little bit. So the riders
- 28:39Speaker 2: on slicks were the ones that ended up getting the benefit.
- 28:42Speaker 2: The ones that were more cautious on wet's started up
- 28:44Speaker 2: the front and went backwards. But I think I Gura
- 28:47Speaker 2: finishing second in that race. It's now really hard to
- 28:50Speaker 2: imagine that he doesn't graduate to Motor GP next year
- 28:53Speaker 2: as a world champion. In motor two. I think they
- 28:55Speaker 2: leads sixty points now. He came through from a long
- 28:58Speaker 2: long way back to finish on the podium, but nothing
- 29:01Speaker 2: like a bit of rain early in the race to
- 29:03Speaker 2: spicings up. But when I was watching that, I was thinking, Man,
- 29:05Speaker 2: can you imagine if that was Lap one of the
- 29:07Speaker 2: Motor GP race, everyone's diving into the box. There would
- 29:11Speaker 2: have been some and you know who they would have been.
- 29:13Speaker 2: Jack Miller would have been in front of the cue.
- 29:15Speaker 2: It would have been you know what, I've got nothing
- 29:16Speaker 2: to lose here. I'm going to try and wobble around
- 29:18Speaker 2: on some slicks here and hope this and hope that
- 29:20Speaker 2: this weather passes and I could look like an absolute
- 29:23Speaker 2: hero here and get a podium or even something better.
- 29:25Speaker 2: But I was happy that some rain came. I just
- 29:27Speaker 2: wish it'd have been about an hour later.
- 29:29Speaker 1: I was thinking the same thing when the white flags
- 29:31Speaker 1: came out during MEDERGP, going Johe Martin is going to
- 29:35Speaker 1: follow whatever Peco Banyaya does. dB.
- 29:39Speaker 2: Yeah, after what happened at beside it. If Peco appeared,
- 29:42Speaker 2: Joge was right behind him. If Peco stays out, Joes
- 29:44Speaker 2: just mimicking what Peco's doing. Get this point, that's a
- 29:46Speaker 2: mistake he's not going to make again.
- 29:49Speaker 1: Well, our Aussie senter ag is sorry, guys, we diverted
- 29:52Speaker 1: from Moto to to MotoGP, but back to Moto two
- 29:54Speaker 1: Ozzie Center ags P twenty obviously just tough conditions and
- 29:58Speaker 1: we see I agree like you said, the guys who
- 30:01Speaker 1: went out on the slicks just were setting lap times.
- 30:04Speaker 1: They were crazy fuzz Jake Digson, he was on poll,
- 30:07Speaker 1: got a good start and then just fell back through
- 30:09Speaker 1: the field. So wrong tied choice for Sena. But it's
- 30:12Speaker 1: a gamble that he had to make.
- 30:14Speaker 2: Right Well, I think he was also in the majority.
- 30:17Speaker 2: I think there were only seven or eight out of
- 30:19Speaker 2: the twenty six on the grid that went with the slicks,
- 30:21Speaker 2: so you could see if you'll see some guys in
- 30:23Speaker 2: that top ten that you haven't seen all year when
- 30:25Speaker 2: you look at the classification, but he went with the majority,
- 30:29Speaker 2: I guess, and look, it certainly looked wet enough to
- 30:31Speaker 2: be there on wet tires, but in the end that
- 30:34Speaker 2: ashfelt dried pretty quickly. So start a twentieth, finished twentieth.
- 30:38Speaker 2: Just one of those ones you just have to put
- 30:39Speaker 2: down as a learning experience and move on.
- 30:42Speaker 1: And Moto three we have to talk about David Alonso,
- 30:47Speaker 1: the first Colombian ever to win a Moto three title.
- 30:52Speaker 1: Big weekend for David, big big year for David Alonzo
- 30:54Speaker 1: as well, who's moving up to Moto two next year.
- 30:57Speaker 1: But it's kind of been like we knew it was
- 30:59Speaker 1: going to happen, Like he's what ten victories this year,
- 31:03Speaker 1: He's just dominated. But do you think we're starting to
- 31:06Speaker 1: see well they called him the baby goat, right, are
- 31:09Speaker 1: we starting to see another Pegro Acosta, Mark Marquez, Valentino
- 31:12Speaker 1: Rossi coming through the ranks. Yeah?
- 31:15Speaker 2: I love this kid. I mean he's won ten out
- 31:17Speaker 2: of sixteen races in Moto three, which is the hardest
- 31:21Speaker 2: category to win a single race in, and you're looking
- 31:24Speaker 2: at who this season is being compared to. Now, this
- 31:27Speaker 2: is as good as any of the best lightweight class
- 31:29Speaker 2: seasons we've ever seen. Still four rounds to go, you
- 31:32Speaker 2: could still conceivably add to those ten wins. But it
- 31:36Speaker 2: was really interesting in the post race for Moto GP,
- 31:39Speaker 2: where Pecovannaya, Jorge Martin and Mark Marquez all talked pretty
- 31:45Speaker 2: glowingly about a lotso and I know that he's done
- 31:47Speaker 2: a lot of training with Mark Marquez in the past,
- 31:49Speaker 2: and the point that Marquez made that was really obvious
- 31:53Speaker 2: to me on Sunday. He said, you know, he's a kid,
- 31:55Speaker 2: let him enjoy this, but also you can't see how
- 31:58Speaker 2: it's not going to be good for in the future.
- 32:00Speaker 2: He's got the talent, but there's a real charisma to him,
- 32:03Speaker 2: like he's a bit of a showman to him. And
- 32:05Speaker 2: I don't know about you, but the post race celebrations
- 32:08Speaker 2: with his little pocket bike that he'd started his journey with,
- 32:10Speaker 2: and you know, he looked so there. It was just
- 32:13Speaker 2: so genuine how excited he was. And he's a kid,
- 32:15Speaker 2: he's eighteen years old and with what he's done, but
- 32:18Speaker 2: I love the charisma and the way that he speaks.
- 32:21Speaker 2: He's I think he's got three or four languages going
- 32:23Speaker 2: at pretty decent levels as an eighteen year old, which
- 32:25Speaker 2: is certainly more impressive than you and me. But look,
- 32:28Speaker 2: he's an absolute star of the future of this kid.
- 32:30Speaker 2: He sounds like he's got his head screwed on the
- 32:32Speaker 2: right way. He asks the right questions, He trains super hard,
- 32:35Speaker 2: and give him about two or three years and Juge Martin,
- 32:38Speaker 2: he said, he's like, yeah, give it three years. He's
- 32:40Speaker 2: going to be up here giving all of us a
- 32:41Speaker 2: hard time because I think he's the next one. And
- 32:44Speaker 2: winning ten out of sixteen in Moto three. It seems
- 32:47Speaker 2: almost impossible to say it, but it's a full credit
- 32:49Speaker 2: to him. And we've we've got our first world champion
- 32:51Speaker 2: with four rounds to go, which is pretty impressive.
- 32:54Speaker 1: Very impressive. Tough weekend though for Job Helso and Jacob Rolstone.
- 32:59Speaker 1: Kelso crashing out when he was in that top ten group,
- 33:02Speaker 1: which was such a shame. Managed to pick the bike
- 33:04Speaker 1: out rejoin the race, but p twenty one back of
- 33:07Speaker 1: the field right, and then same with Jacob Rulso. He's
- 33:10Speaker 1: just having a tough run at the moment.
- 33:13Speaker 2: Yeah, Jacob was a little bit happier with how this
- 33:15Speaker 2: weekend had gone relative to the last couple. He finished seventh,
- 33:18Speaker 2: finished seventeenth, just outside the points, but three straight races
- 33:22Speaker 2: for him with no points, but he was feeling like
- 33:25Speaker 2: he'd actually made some progress and things were better than
- 33:27Speaker 2: Indonesia and that second Massana around it Kelso we've been
- 33:30Speaker 2: so used to him being up the front that I
- 33:32Speaker 2: had to go and scramble and thought, when was the
- 33:34Speaker 2: last time he hadn't had a top ten finish. He
- 33:37Speaker 2: had six straight top tens and score points in eighteen
- 33:39Speaker 2: out of his last nineteen, so he came back to
- 33:41Speaker 2: last year. So he's had a super consistent year and
- 33:45Speaker 2: you're always going to make a mistake here and there.
- 33:47Speaker 2: I think he was just super frustrated because he was
- 33:49Speaker 2: in the back end of that top ten. We've seen.
- 33:51Speaker 2: There's a lot of races this year where he's finished
- 33:53Speaker 2: in that fifth to eighth bracket where he doesn't quite
- 33:57Speaker 2: have the machinery necessarily to fight for podiums, but he's
- 33:59Speaker 2: always in the next group. So I think that was
- 34:01Speaker 2: the frustration for him. But the good thing for Joel
- 34:04Speaker 2: and Jacob and Center, of course, is that their nixt
- 34:07Speaker 2: race is on home soil, and if Joel needs any
- 34:10Speaker 2: more motivation, I don't think many people at Philip Poland
- 34:13Speaker 2: wanted to rain in a couple of weeks time, but
- 34:16Speaker 2: he made pretty good use of it last year and
- 34:17Speaker 2: got that first World Championship podium. And I dare say
- 34:19Speaker 2: there'll be a febit of Joel Kelso Merch in the
- 34:21Speaker 2: stands because he certainly captured some imaginations that day.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Yes, he definitely did it one of the highlights when
- 34:28Speaker 1: I was talking to him earlier this year about Philip
- 34:30Speaker 1: Island and and his podium place last year, and you
- 34:32Speaker 1: could just see his eyes light up. But to be honest,
- 34:34Speaker 1: when I was talking to Jacob and Joel, it's the
- 34:36Speaker 1: same thing. They're so excited to come race at their
- 34:39Speaker 1: home Grand Prix in front of the fans and friends
- 34:41Speaker 1: and family here they don't get to see for twelve
- 34:43Speaker 1: months of the year, right because they're alway traveling. So
- 34:46Speaker 1: for those guys heading home, obviously Jack Miller as well,
- 34:49Speaker 1: the Australian Grand Prix, and for us as fans, we're
- 34:52Speaker 1: all so excited to attend. But I think that is
- 34:55Speaker 1: everything from the Japanese Grand Prix next up, like we
- 34:59Speaker 1: just said, the ostri Alien Grand Prix and Matt, you
- 35:01Speaker 1: and I are going to be on the ground covering,
- 35:03Speaker 1: so we'll give you guys all the latest news, but
