Transcript
- 0:01[SPEAKER_00]: time for the 49ers rush podcast.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: and here's your host, John Chapman.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_02]: What is going on faithful and is absolutely incredible to be with you guys today?
- 0:39[SPEAKER_02]: It's Thursday, which means it is time for coach approach.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_02]: Me and the man, 49ers come back and we got a lot of ammunition today in, because we got to hear from so many of the position coaches, how are you feeling, OTAs are a rep?
- 0:54[SPEAKER_02]: Where are we at, and give us the thermostat?
- 0:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm actually pretty excited about it.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the fact that they couch in and felt like a cancel mini campus, I think is a good omen for how the season's going and minus a couple of things, you know, a shoulder being a little bit sore or, you know, some things here and they're primarily, they've been able to stay healthy.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_01]: That's something that's positive for the 49ers.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm feeling good about it.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we're hearing positive things about, about stripling and about cowling and what they're doing on offense.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_01]: So we're hearing good things about the back end.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_01]: with some of the things that are happening on defense as well.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: I was also very impressed with Rahim Morris, just the energy that he was kind of displaying when he was at the mic.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_01]: You could tell he was excited about this team, he was excited about the players, and I think if anything came through from Rahim Morris, it was how much he loves having Fred Warner and Drake Greenlaw back together.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: It just felt like that was the perfect marriage for the 49ers and Rahim Morris is loving every minute of it.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's funny because I have family members from Atlanta and they always call it talk to me about like, you know, whoever they draft or sign or whatever.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_02]: And when they got Rehe Morris, I was like, man, you guys are going to love this hire.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_02]: Like, like, Rehe Morris is such a cool guy.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_02]: Like, amazing.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_02]: And I talked about how Shanahan always hives him up and like, this was a great hire.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_02]: I really thought that didn't work out, didn't work out, but his personality,
- 2:20[SPEAKER_02]: Like, okay, let's see here.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_02]: You go from Robert's solid to me, go Ryan's.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_02]: Then Steve Wilkes, little bit of a, you know, change up in there with Steve Wilkes.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_02]: Then to, you know, pet rock, Nick Sordson, back to Sala, like, this is like the first time you're getting that like, pizzazz energy.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_02]: Like, Robert's solid's got energy on the field.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_02]: To me, go Ryan's got energy on the field, but man, you put a mic in front of him and it's just monitor on the, you know, we're excited in there, it's just like,
- 2:50[SPEAKER_02]: That's not Raheem Morse and I love that he's bringing his personality and, you know, it just shines through, it's refreshing.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_02]: Um, at what does, does that translate to winds, losses, whatever else?
- 3:02[SPEAKER_02]: I, I don't know the answer to that.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_02]: But as somebody that listens to every single minute of every 49ers press conference ever with the player interviews which are got awful boring and even the position coaches sometimes like do it I'll take that like right like I don't know it's just like oh what's happening here so I'm pretty pumped about reading more.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, me too.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_01]: I think that there's going to be some some interesting twists to what he wants to do.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_01]: And I think we've all been feeling that already just with him coming into the fold.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_01]: We feel like we're going to get something a little bit different.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_01]: That was what was exciting about Steve Wilkes when they first hired him was like, Hey, we're going to get some changes here and there.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_01]: What does that mean for the defense?
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: It ultimately didn't work out the way everyone was hoping.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: But I think you're feeling that with Rahim Morris right now.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_01]: There's a kind of a new energy about hey we're going to we're going to do what we always done But we're going to do some things that are a little bit different too.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_01]: I thought we felt that kind of from the different coaches as well where you had You guys like Johnny Hollins talking about there's going to be his own spin on coverages and some of the things that was bringing his own system in and bringing some of the things that he was going to do there
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought that you heard the same thing from KJ, right?
- 4:08[SPEAKER_01]: So there's a definite change.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think E-Breflu's kind of adds to that as well.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_01]: They've got a lot of different things they can do schematically.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's what makes it really exciting.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: New personnel combine with a different point of view on what it takes to play defense and the NFL in a modern day defense.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought that was another thing where he more said about E-Breflu's.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: He's bringing in some things that he saw around the league, some ideas and other things.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: I love the collaborative nature.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: When you get these minds together, that's when you can really get something great.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: So the energy is really great, but I think also where he's going to come from schematically, he's going to be a lot of fun as well.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_02]: The eberfluous interview was interesting, but yeah, that's like, what would you say you do here, right?
- 5:03[SPEAKER_02]: that was a little bit of a unique answer, but I thought it was very telling because there were so many questions.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_02]: I forget the coach that we had from the chargers and he came over, I could see his face and he's doing the pelvic strength.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_02]: Fred's daily.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you so much.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_02]: The pelvic thrust gave it away, right?
- 5:20[SPEAKER_02]: Right, and it gave me pleasure, yeah.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_02]: Like, everyone's like, what's he do?
- 5:24[SPEAKER_02]: What's he do?
- 5:26[SPEAKER_02]: The 49ers have brought in multiple coaches with the head coaching experience and, you know, whatever else, just another set of eyes help us bring in like for those of a lot of people that like haven't gone through coaching and building a game plan and breaking down tendencies and all that stuff and it's all the coaches sitting in the room, you know, on the film and with the board and all that stuff and it's like, all right, here's what they do.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_02]: How do we want to personal against this?
- 5:54[SPEAKER_02]: what blitzes will work against this, what coverages will work, where our vulnerabilities, all that stuff.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_02]: And just to have another set of eyes, actually, you know what, man, back whenever I was with someone, so we would do this to that formation and work really, really good.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_02]: You know, like, you know, instead of doing a 31 look on the defensive front, let's do a 22, that's going to stop the trap, but like, just more,
- 6:17[SPEAKER_02]: knowledge and experience that is key and just increases the awareness.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_02]: So I love the Eber Flue's higher and if we jump back at the delorean to last off season, it was Robert Solow or Bust.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_02]: for a defensive coordinator.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_02]: It like I was very, very concerned, but Matt Eberflus was on kind of my short list of, you know what, maybe as a DC, I wouldn't hate it.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_02]: But the fact that you get them now as an assist to the assistance and to serve Raheem, I don't know, what are your thoughts here on just adding all that experience and depth on the backside coaching staff?
- 6:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, number one, it's always nice to have another set of eyes that understands the game and has been around as long as he has.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_01]: He's also been head coach, a defensive coordinator.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: So he understand what it takes day to day to go talk to these coaches.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_01]: So he can kind of interject himself in the meetings and maybe, where he sees something that he can't handle right away.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_01]: And he says, hey, Eberflus, I need you to go sit in the meeting and talk to these guys or or just see what's going on so we can make changes.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_01]: That's number one.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_01]: That's why he says he's a coach to the coaches.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_01]: He can go.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_01]: and give them support the individual coaches without having to have Rahim Morris do that.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_01]: So Rahim Morris can stay what he wants to do in a holistic view, looking at the whole team and Eva Flue's can kind of go piece by piece.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_01]: But then you brought up the game day type stuff.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_01]: And how important it is when you have another set of eyes, it's just looking at it for in-game adjustments.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_01]: And hey, I got a tendency on what they're doing offensively.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: Here, I can share this with Rahim and maybe give them some insight.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_01]: I think always two heads are better than one.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_01]: And when you got
- 7:52[SPEAKER_01]: people that are really smart like these guys are they can figure things out.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_01]: So I love that Kyle's been doing that and bringing in these other coaches to help the defensive coordinator.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_01]: Number one, he doesn't have to do it.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_01]: It takes a lot of pressure off of him.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_01]: And then number two, it gives some freedom to that defensive coordinator to focus more on game plans and things that are happening in the game.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_01]: and the other guys can handle talking to the coaches and that sort of thing on the sideline.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_01]: So I think it's been, it's worked out pretty well.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_01]: I thought last year was probably the best it worked out and I'm hoping Eva Fluse takes it to another level because he is extremely smart and he has some really good concepts when he was coaching a couple years ago.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_01]: So I think these guys got to stay ahead of the league, the league's ever-changing Sean McVay is going to figure out something else.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_01]: 13 personnel is not going to be here that long.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_01]: They got to be ready for what's coming next.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that just the adaptations and the copycat league and all the second round tight ends that we had fourth to fifth round grades on and like it's weird.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_02]: The Niners chose not to even partake in tight ends and just say, you know what?
- 8:50[SPEAKER_02]: We don't even need to touch it tight end safety.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_02]: Who gives it to him?
- 8:54[SPEAKER_02]: Now, one of the interesting interviews I thought was Chris Forster.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_02]: Like I remember the season where Forster was on the mics, or I think it was Thursdays, or it was Wednesdays or Thursdays.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_02]: I loved it.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_02]: like he's just so fun to listen to.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_02]: He talked about how Brett taught hasn't been working now.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_02]: And it really kind of seems like it's going to be a two-horse race at that left guard spot between Connor Colby and Robert Jones.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_02]: Um, Carver Willis just seems like too much of a stretch for me, but what are your thoughts just on this idea of Connor Colby versus Robert Jones at this left guard spot, which is probably one of the last starting spots that's kind of up in the air.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I thought that that was an interesting interview, a starting just with the conversation about Miles Garrett and how that was a gut punch.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that got him really evaluating that position.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: I think if there's one good thing we take away from it, it's Chris first sir was talking about it being a meritocracy.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_01]: He was saying, hey, we got four guys.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to put the best of five offensive linemen on the field.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if that's always been the case with conversations when he said it aloud, but I think that that's what they're looking at.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_01]: I think Brett Toath is going to be in this, in the mix, as long as he can get healthy, but they definitely value him as a backup center.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_01]: And this is something that we saw in years past where that backup center is not always available to start.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_01]: So John Flesiano eventually became the starting right guard.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: We can all remember that in 2023, so it does happen.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I think when you look at it,
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: Connor Kobe's got a lot of nice things being said to him about, you know, from Colton McKibitz, you've got, you know, Robert Jones, who from what I saw in 2024 and there's nothing to go on in 2025, but in 2024 he was pretty solid.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think that there's at least a consistent starter that they could put at left guard if Robert Jones is healthy and capable.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_01]: I think everyone hopes that it's Connor Kobe, one thing Chris first or said in that interview was,
- 10:46[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't expect Connor Kobe to be as good as he was when they drafted him in the seventh round.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't see him as the starter, but now that they think that he can be.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_01]: So I think this is going to be interesting.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_01]: We won't know anything though until these guys start getting in the pad.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_01]: And John, I am so excited about training camp.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you're going to have guys like OSA, Diggies, who are going to get his Robert Jones and Connor Kobe, and some of the stunts and things that are going to happen.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: That's where we're going to find out if Connor Kobe's ready to start or not.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: I still put a little bit of an edge to Robert Jones, but I think that that's going to be a fun matchup all off season.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_02]: I like that.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_02]: And it's, you go and learn out there, you know, you're going to figure out real quick who's in and who's out is shade.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_02]: Shout out to shade at the nicks, congrats on your win yesterday.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_02]: Shade says, you know, I believe that when he pulls Brandl.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_02]: That is a very, very, I don't see that take a place at any time this season, but the fact they didn't add any years to Jake Brandl's deal.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to count that as a victory, um, love that he's getting more money, very deserving.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_02]: He has paid adequately for the performance he puts out there, just would really like it up, take and run blocking from that center position.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_02]: It's been a couple of rough years there.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_02]: Kim Bro, thanks for the super chat, my friend, says thanks for going live jense and good to see the faithful.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_02]: Now that OTAs are over, who are you most excited?
- 12:06[SPEAKER_02]: to see in pads, I'm going to go on the back end and I want to talk about this a little bit.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_02]: I want to see Marquis Eagle.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a big Marquis Eagle guy.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_02]: He was, you know, one of our 10 out of a 10, 49ers fits a year ago, came in, started week one, just had a little bit off, but always where he should be.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_02]: One of the best tacklers on the team just coverage was a little suspect.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_02]: you bring in Ashton Davis and that perils put out there on the athletic.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_02]: He wouldn't be shocked if Marky Seagull and Ashton Davis were the two starters at safety.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_02]: What are your thoughts there?
- 12:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I thought it was interesting.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_01]: I've actually floated the idea of this offseason about Marky Seagull and somebody else.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_01]: I thought maybe the 49ers would invest in in the draft.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_01]: I knew that that was a, you know, a big, a big far cry from what they normally do.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_01]: But if they did, I thought I seen a scenario where that was the case because I think on the back end, the 49ers know they need to get more athletic.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_01]: They need to get faster.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_01]: And when you look at what Raheem Moore's did in Atlanta, that's one of the things he invested in was speed.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_01]: Even guys like Billy Bowman, he didn't care.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_01]: you know what they look like as far as size and arm length and all that stuff.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, let's just get somebody that's really fast.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_01]: Having those guys that can be over the top and what do we hear it about OTAs right now?
- 13:26[SPEAKER_01]: 49ers wide receivers are getting behind the safeties and making plays down the field.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_01]: They chop up malachmascapa.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, getting beat.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that there are some question mark to about Malik Mustafa when it comes to cover.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_01]: He's not terrible, but last year there was a little bit of a step back.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't think that that's a crazy thought from Matt Barrows.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_01]: I still believe that Malik Mustafa is the leader in the clubhouse to start at one of the safety positions.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it comes down to Seagull and Jaya Brown.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_01]: And I think Ashton Davis will be in the mix and make no mistake if he's the better player.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_01]: And if he's starting to create turnovers,
- 13:57[SPEAKER_01]: Then he's going to get a chance, but I love Seagull's tackling ability.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's the best tackler on the 49ers team.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_01]: I don't care about position.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_01]: I just think he's that good when it comes to tackling 38 solo tackles in the open field last year.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_01]: That's ridiculous.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: This dude can do some things in space.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_01]: So
- 14:13[SPEAKER_01]: I like him.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's just he's got to finish and young players.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_01]: The reason they're not finishing, they're usually a tick slow with their eyes.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_01]: They're reading a little bit longer, not quite pulling the trigger.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's what we saw from Seagull not in the run game, but in the passing game, we're doing quite trust his eyes.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_01]: And I think if that happens, some past break ups will come in and you'll start making more plays.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm with you.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_01]: He's one of the most exciting players to watch during the offseason because if he hits with that athletic ability, the tackling ability is a ability that he showed at case state to cover if that translates.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: This do can be in a racer for the 49ers in the back end that they desperately need that with some guys right now that just aren't as great then it covers from out with stuff he can kind of do his own thing being in force or be physical around the line of scrimmage that will make his position a little bit easier without that more complications for mouth is often probably stretches his abilities a little bit.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, back to that Barrow's piece that he wrote, like three safety Scott works with the ones, Marquis Eagle, Mallock, Mustafa, and Jaya Brown, Asden Davis was squarely with the twos, they just joined the team a day ago.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, that's that's four guys.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_02]: And you can't really keep five safety's because, you know, yet Sierra Niel, who's your special teams kind of stud there.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I don't know.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not quite sure what's going to happen there, but we'll see where that is.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_02]: Now, let's jump to the linebacker.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_02]: We're getting some really good linebacker chat in the chat here.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_02]: Do get wallo.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_02]: And the name just sees to be pop it around.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_02]: Since they got this dude in the building halfway through last season, promotion promotion promotion starter,
- 15:55[SPEAKER_02]: And it was just like, oh, well, you know, everybody was injured.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_02]: He filled in nicely, whatever else.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_02]: One of the first transactions they made this off season was making sure Garrett Wallo was back.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_02]: They loved this dude.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_02]: Talk to me about Garrett Wallo.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_02]: It just like, he just can't quit him.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_02]: He just too much energy too much, like whatever is Garrett Wallo here to stay.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_01]: I think when you look at the roster's hard, right?
- 16:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's hard to make Gary Wallow stay.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_01]: When you look at the talent they got in front, I mean, minus them moving on from a young player that they really like.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Tate and Bethune, they still got two years of control.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_01]: I don't really see them wanting to move on from him.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_01]: He's usually the guy that makes all the calls after Fred.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_01]: So you like that about him.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_01]: They've got Nick Martin, you know, then they drafted and put draft capital into, you know, another player in Jaden Dugger.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_01]: So I think this is one of those rooms is difficult.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_01]: I think they fully expect to keep six linebackers Because they're just so talented and looped gift for such a good special teams player.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_01]: That's something the gear wall though adds as well.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_01]: So, Dugger and and guys like that Nick Martin, they're going to have to step up on special teams if they're going to be able to make this roster.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_01]: I just I think Garrett Wall is a great player.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't know how without the injury and the thing is about the offseason is things are going to shuffle because somebody's going to get nicked up in some way and so maybe then he gets the gets on the team, but they are extremely talented.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_01]: That's why D winters was you know a player that could trade away it's just.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_01]: the talent at the lineback of this and is great.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_01]: It's really, really good.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's super deep.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_01]: But I do like Garrett.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I thought he played really well in the playoffs last year.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_01]: A lot better than the practice squad type player that everyone envisioned when he came over from Denver.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_01]: I think he could push Luke Gifford.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_01]: I think he played better at linebacker than Luke Gifford did last year.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_02]: Oh yeah and the special teams like the energy like because we saw him first on special teams and my favorite thing about him was like dude he shows up with bad intentions and he is pissed off every time the whistle goes off because he just wants to hit somebody else and I remember doing the special teams breakdown and I was like dude this guy he's a fireball man.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_02]: God be careful he's a little too over aggressive to you know kind of slap people the face and all that stuff
- 18:14[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm just like, okay, can Garrett Wallow be the guy that's just, look, he's going to make the roster as a special teamer and just let him back up a spot.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_02]: Like, could you have that luxury with him?
- 18:27[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's funny because I say all the time, like, man, dude, Samo is one of my favorite players on this roster.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want him to start.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want him to be as he was a starter last year because all the injuries, but like, Samo makes your roster better as a backup rotational guy.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_02]: Garrett Wallows kind of that, like, I love those overachievers.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_02]: They have no business being here, but just play with so much passion, heart, and instincts, and just they understand their role.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_02]: I'm in on this Garrett wall of stuff.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_02]: It like, do you keep six?
- 18:56[SPEAKER_02]: Because, okay, Drake Greenlaw, Fred Warner, Jayden Dugger, Nick Martin, that's four, Luke Gifford's five, Pro Bowl special teamer.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_02]: Then you're down to like, okay, Tatum, Bethoon, Larry word Garrett wall, like, is there a chance he can make this for us?
- 19:15[SPEAKER_02]: So tell me, don't take away my hype of Garrett wall over right now, and tell me there's a chance.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think there's always a chance.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that he's on the outside looking in.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_01]: I do think he's a bubble player, because Tate and Bethane played really well last year.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_01]: There's one thing you can count on Tate and Bethane to do is stop the run and the 49ers.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_01]: That's one of the things that they wanted to do last year.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_01]: They invested in it.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_01]: Whether it's D-line, line, back, or a secondary didn't matter.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_01]: Let's stop the run.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_01]: And that's something that Tate and Bethane does really well, plus they trusted him with the green dot.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_01]: That's saying a lot.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I heard a little bit about the calls coming from Garrett
- 19:51[SPEAKER_01]: I think it would be great if they could keep him.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_01]: I just think when they brought back Luke Gifford, they made an investment in him on special teams over Garo Wallo, and that's the decision they end up making.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_01]: But we'll see, we'll see what happens with Dougherk, can he stay healthy, we'll see what happens with Dick Martin?
- 20:05[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't think they want to lose those guys.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_01]: Those guys have a lot of upside.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_01]: Dick Martin is still one of the fastest dudes on the field.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the dude's crazy quick.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_01]: And if his instincts
- 20:14[SPEAKER_01]: continue to get better and he doesn't overrun plays and he starts playing a little bit more into control.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to be a problem and Doug has got the elite length and size.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_01]: Those guys could be really good in the future.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_01]: I think the 49ers aren't ready to give up on them.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_02]: What's that whole one in a million talk?
- 20:31[SPEAKER_02]: Now, Johnny, Johnny Holland and KHA Wright talked.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_02]: So it got to hear from both of them, which I really, really liked.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_02]: one of my favorite comments probably was, you know, Fred Warner and Drake Greenlaw, they're going to be where they've always been.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_02]: Those guys, Mike and Will traditional.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_02]: But that third guy.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_02]: And like the third guy's going to be different.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_02]: This is what we've all kind of been speculating with bringing in Rehean Morris.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_02]: Are you finally going to get a little bit of a change?
- 21:00[SPEAKER_02]: It seems like that is taking place.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_02]: Talk to me just a little bit.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_02]: And we've talked a little bit of scheme, Robert Saliverse, Rehean Morris, what the differences are going to be.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_02]: I think that this is huge.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_02]: That third linebacker Sam, however you want to call it, five man front, you throw around so much terminology,
- 21:21[SPEAKER_02]: When you heard them talk about that, what personnel or person came to mind on this step chart?
- 21:27[SPEAKER_01]: It was Nick Martin.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_01]: I really do think that.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think Nick Martin's got the elite athleticism compared to everyone else.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_01]: Now, Jayden Dugger is the eventual guy.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, when you look at the way that they drafted, then they signed Larry Worth, who's also built in the same way.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_01]: Those are the guys that are looking at in 2027, 208, who are an edge president who can also play off while a linebacker.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_01]: I think that that's the way they're going to go, but in the short term, the interim, while Drey Greenlaw's under contract, Nick Martin is that guy because of his explosiveness is extreme for step.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that I see a lot of, even though he's not the same size as Jaylin Walker, Walker's a lot bigger actually when it comes to weight, the Nick Martin, Nick Martin is explosive.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_01]: And so I look at a guy that could play off ball, be consistent against the run, coverage still needs to get better.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_01]: But when you're playing Sam Lineback or an additional 43, it's not one of the things
- 22:17[SPEAKER_01]: But when you come to the line of scrimmage, I think Dick Barton could do some damage coming off the edge because of his quickness and athletic ability.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_01]: So I kind of like the idea of him playing there, a lot more than the guy like Tate and Bethoon.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_01]: So I think it comes down to those guys kind of in that situation.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_01]: And then is it a traditional three, four alignment?
- 22:34[SPEAKER_01]: You know, are we getting the defensive line shifting and moving guys around is Alfred Collins going to play a you as zero tech, is that going to happen?
- 22:40[SPEAKER_01]: Or are they going to go with the more of like that 4-3 over and kind of shift over just a little bit?
- 22:45[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's going to be one of the kind of, yeah, the nuanced parts of this conversation.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_01]: But I do think that they're looking for a hybrid role, a guy that can kind of do more than one.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_01]: And Ramello Heights probably in the mix to do some of that as well.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_02]: There we go.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_02]: That is key.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_02]: And we saw some for three over under last year with Luke Gifford, but they did it stop the run game.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_02]: I think Reemore is going to do it to go after the pastor.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_02]: That's the difference.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_02]: I'll look at Tommy Huxley using his love link which out there talking about Gav.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_02]: It gonna make me jealous out there.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_02]: Tommy, you play nice now.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_02]: Joe, the man super chat.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_02]: Big thanks to both of you too for helping this fan
- 23:22[SPEAKER_02]: Enjoy the game so much more my favorite two Niners potters appreciate you Joe you are such a cool dude Can't wait to see and see at all again my friend you are the freaking man and let me just say this for everybody out there you're going to a 49ers away game and
- 23:36[SPEAKER_02]: little teaser here.

- 24:02[SPEAKER_02]: All you have to do is search 49ers rush on any of the TickPick sites, apps, you name it, and on top of all of that.

- 24:30[SPEAKER_02]: If you want to build the 49ers community, you're traveling by yourself.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_02]: We got you covered, 49ers rushroadtrip.com.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_02]: Alright, way too much defense to talk.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_02]: We got to give some love to the offensive side.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_02]: Let's start off.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_02]: Loved hearing everybody just gleam over Mike Evans, like rightfully so.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_02]: He's Mike freaking Evans.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_02]: I love the forgetting Sarah Marshall reference there, Kebrew, you're the freaking man.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_02]: Infinite sorrow.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_02]: Hard to be just about Mike Evans.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_02]: Is this kind of what you expected, you know, kiddo talk it three to five touchdowns, hit deep routes, run a different like the X wide receiver is finally an X wide receiver again.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think this one is really it's one of the the things that's been interesting about the offseason.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_01]: I think there was a initial like, oh, we got Mike Evans and then after that, I felt like everyone just kind of cooled on it and forgot how big of a signing that was for the 49ers and what he's going to mean to this roster.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_01]: you know, in George Kittles talking a little bit about what he did, you know, in the red zone session, well, he has 42 catches inside the red zone his career, 42 of them are touchdowns.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_01]: Like Mike Evans is a touchdown machine.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_01]: And that's going to be huge.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_01]: And we talk about how important red zone offenses for the 49ers in general.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_01]: And you've got, you know, some of the best in the NFL history, when you're talking Christian McAfron, his effect in the red zone,
- 26:10[SPEAKER_01]: And I was looking at this and I did a video a while back and I said these guys are going to approach 70% inside the red zone as long as they can stay healthy that's how good they're going to be and if you're converting touchdowns that's a huge effect, but my ovens is just going to be open all the time I mean this is going to be you know 24 seven thing because he's just he knows how to play the game he knows how to get open.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought Jerry Gray, you know, talking about the defense having to tip coverage his direction and knowing that things are going to open up.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_01]: And that's that's one of the things defense supporters have to worry about now.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_01]: You got McAfrey doing his thing on one side Mike Evans doing his on the other.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_01]: What do we do?
- 26:45[SPEAKER_01]: Do we tip covers that way?
- 26:46[SPEAKER_01]: Does that give one on one looks to Ricky Pierce all on the John Stribling.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_01]: It starts making things extremely interesting 49ers got a bona fide stud in Mike Evans.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_01]: And now defense is going to have to play a little bit different.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_01]: And that means safety's play a little bit deeper.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody starts being a little bit more concerned about Mike Evans, and everything starts opening up for this offense.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_01]: So Kyle knew what he was getting.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_01]: He finally got his Andre Johnson, you know, one of these guys that he can make an impact with who, you know, Jones type guy that can change the offense in a positive way.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_01]: This is huge.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_01]: This is the legitimate X receiver.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_01]: Patrick and it hasn't had since 2017.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_01]: But BA was good, but BA is not Mike Evans.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_01]: Mike Evans is a bona fide holo femur.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and notorious he says, you know, you think Mike Evans got to do the boom box.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_02]: Why he wore a shirt that said humble over a hype for his first press conference, which we didn't get here.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_02]: Shoutout to the 49ers audio team, muting the Mike for 75% of Mike Evans first interview.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_02]: But they're in postseason form, so shout out to those guys.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_02]: It's got to happen.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_02]: But so I don't know.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_02]: Now,
- 27:53[SPEAKER_02]: Mike Evans, well, long in his years, 30 plus, but still got it, obviously.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_02]: Leonard Pinkerson, the 49ers wide receiver coach spent some time talking about to Sean Stribley, who had two big catches, one of them was a 50 plus yard touchdown.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_02]: He let it out that Stribley was his number three overall wide receiver in this draft class, which I thought, like, that's a little spicy.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_02]: That's a little spicy.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, who was the guy's ahead?
- 28:23[SPEAKER_01]: I think that there was probably some, I know there was a couple of guys that are really, they were excited about kind of the first round of Kyle kind of said, hey, if these guys aren't here, we're going to kind of move on.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_01]: I think those guys went early, but the fact that Hankerson was that high.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_01]: on just on dribbling says a lot about the player.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it was because he's such a complete player.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_01]: You know, when you looked at everything that he did, it wasn't just route running.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't just speed.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_01]: It was also as blocking.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think that it's easy to fall in love with the player.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_01]: What I love is that we're already getting the early reports that he's making plays.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_01]: We're not hearing about drops.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_01]: We're not hearing about any of that.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_01]: We're hearing about a guy that's going out there and meeting all the expectations they had as an individual inside the meeting rooms, but also out
- 29:04[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, Hankerson loving tripling.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think is a great sign for the 49ers because there was a lot of wide receivers that went ahead of descent tripling yet when they took him at 33 people thought it was a reach.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't a reach in the building where it was a consensus that this dude was one of the top three wide receivers, you know, in the draft.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's huge David.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_02]: Are you worried about Mike Evans falling off a bit?
- 29:26[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sure he's still amazing, but as Ian is prime, I doubt it.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_02]: You're not paying for prime.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_02]: Like, it in a world where Christian Watson got the extension he got today.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_02]: The entire 49ers wide receiver room is under contract for less than the Christian Watson deal.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_02]: Like you're you're getting what you paid for.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_02]: You're hoping he's better than he was last year.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_02]: He had the hamstring.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_02]: He had the collarbone.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_02]: And even talked about how.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_02]: He's way more fresh now than he was a year ago.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, the injury sucked in whatever else and not making the playoffs, but he's like, man, my body kind of needed it.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_02]: I'm feeling way better than I have the past couple of years.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm not saying you're gonna get 12, 13 hundred yards out of my heavens.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think that's really what you need.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_02]: Like if you told me the 49ers were getting 800 yards and eight touchdowns,
- 30:17[SPEAKER_02]: Dude, I would take it with this wide receiver core.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_02]: Like, that's all he needs to be, just the threat to help the run game and to keep those safety's back like you talked about.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_02]: Like, what do you expect out of my Kevin's?
- 30:30[SPEAKER_02]: Do you have like a yardage or a touchdown or reception?
- 30:33[SPEAKER_02]: Like, where would you put your expectations for this year on my Kevin's?
- 30:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think he's going to come really close to a thousand yards.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_01]: I do.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_01]: I think that the way the teams are going to have to play this team of the 49ers, I think there's going to be opportunities for Mike Evans.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think there'll probably be, you know, hills and valleys during this season where defenses decide to either let him go one on one or kind of try to take him away depending on.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_01]: They're personnel.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_01]: So I think there's going to be games.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to get a hundred yard game from Mike Evans here and you're going to get you know 50 there.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_01]: But I think the touchdowns are what I'm really the most focused on right.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_01]: I think you could be a double digit touchdown guy last year to one.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_01]: Jennings got nearly double digits.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_01]: Mike Evans is a better red zone threat.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_01]: He's got more size.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_01]: He just knows how to play a little bit better.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_01]: This is going to give Brock pretty the ability to go not just with the jump ball, but also the back shoulder fade.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to put a lot of pressure on defenses.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_01]: to give a little bit of help to corner backs inside the red zone that could open up some things in the running game.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think it's going to be kind of a pushing pull all year with Mike Evans and the hills and valleys, but I think we're going to see a lot of place from him.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_01]: So close to a thousand yards, I think 10 touchdowns.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think that that would be realistic for Mike Evans in his first year in San Francisco.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_02]: And the one thing I do want to hit on before we switch topics back to the defense aside,
- 31:47[SPEAKER_02]: Mike Evans has never had Kyle Shanahan and the three reasons why Mike Evans joined the 49ers was Brock Perty, a team that needed an X and was competitive in Kyle Shanahan.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_02]: Like we talked about Andre Johnson.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_02]: We talked about Julio Jones.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_02]: We have seen what Kyle Shanahan has done.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_02]: Josh Gordon up at Cleveland.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_02]: You remember those days?
- 32:10[SPEAKER_02]: Like Kyle can do this with that wide receiver
- 32:16[SPEAKER_02]: There's a chance you might get something a little new from my Kevin's.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not saying he's going to have 1500 yards or whatever else, whatever.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_02]: I'm telling you right now.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_02]: This is a match made heaven and I'm very, very excited just to see Shanna hand perty Evans.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_02]: That is fun and get your popcorn ready right here.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_02]: Mike Brunell says Mike's gonna have 10 plus touchdowns easily, most of them in the red zone scored three to five.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know how you miss four in there, but it was so many we couldn't even count.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_02]: Let's go to the defensive line.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_02]: We have a lot of comments here.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_02]: on the defensive line.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_02]: One, Logan started the conversation out saying, man, I really hope that Mikhail Williams comes back sooner, rather than later.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_02]: Now, there were some interesting nuggets about Micah Parsons.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_02]: And he was talking about how probably in October, you know, coming back from his MCL ACL, and Micah Parsons tore his December 14th, Micah, Micah Williams tore his November seconds, six weeks earlier.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_02]: So if Micah's coming back and shoot.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_02]: Michele's way younger, injury happened six weeks earlier, and then Nick boasts a September 21st, what do your thoughts just on the Michele Williams timeline, Nick boasts a timeline with this defensive line?
- 33:40[SPEAKER_02]: Can we expect a week one, or is that flight to Australia?
- 33:44[SPEAKER_02]: And the fact that the game's four days earlier, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, fly back.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_02]: Is that enough to say, you know what?
- 33:51[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe not week one.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_01]: I think Nick boasts is going to be ready to go week one.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_01]: I think the 49ers the way that they've handled the Aussies and they believe Nick boasts is going to be ready to go if not they would have made another signing because they would know he was going to stay on the public and they don't have the depth around right now do the first four games and you just never know how these things are going to go.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_01]: But I think boasts is ready to roll week one.
- 34:14[SPEAKER_01]: I think he'll be there in Melbourne in Australia.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's going to play 17 games this year.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's going to have a bounce back season from a kill Williams.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_01]: I don't have as much confidence that he's going to be ready to go week one.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_01]: I do think that he's a candidate for the public.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it's going to be a long stay on the public.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_01]: I think it could be a month.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the four games that they need or whatever, no kind of bring him back.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_01]: But I do think that that is a realistic possibility and why there's been so much smoke around them possibly bringing in another Edge player, you know, whether that has been Geneva on clowning or Joey Bosa or whoever it's been there's been consistent conversation about that But they don't have to do anything right now with all these veterans still out there they can allow training camp to start They can take a look at what Sam Okuwani would key on white and those guys look like right now even get a
- 35:00[SPEAKER_01]: a better look at Cameron Sample as well, who I think was the real signal to me that McElwell Williams was probably going to start in the public because Cam Sample is a guy that plays the run pretty well.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't add a whole lot in that type of quarterback pressures, but he can be a solid guy in a rotation.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_01]: So he was kind of a signal to that.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_01]: He's insulation in case McElwell Williams isn't ready to go and I don't think McElwell will be, that's why I do believe a signing of defensive end is still out there and possible
- 35:30[SPEAKER_02]: right if they make sense now here's a fun little projection right here from a man-to-end case says at some point are we going to have Bosa CJ West also digs you out for Collins and McKell Williams on the D line at the same time.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_02]: I would adjust this a little bit.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_02]: I would say no to those five throw out one of those defensive tackles that throw in Ramello height or throw in, you know, whichever linebacker with that's Nick Barton shaded dugger, you know, somebody like that, what are your thoughts here on this five man front with all D line men, we saw a little bit with, to me, go Ryan's a couple years ago and a little bit with Steve Wilkes, but not a lot.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think this type of thing is possible if you get into the high reds on the low reds on maybe you're 10 to five yard line.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_01]: This group would kind of make sense.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_01]: If you were in a just a normal set, I don't think that you would put these exact guys out there athletically, you would be giving up some when it comes to past rush and some things that they could do.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't think that that makes sense.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and we saw that with Steve, well, too, we put in like Javon, Ken laws, the extra guy, and you would lose a linebacker.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_01]: And I didn't really love that a whole lot.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_01]: I felt like team speed went down in the way that the league is with all the athleticism.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_01]: You don't want to lose team speed.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_01]: So get into short areas.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_01]: You have a third and one, a fourth and one.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, those types of situations get guys in their red zone.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_01]: That would make sense.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_01]: But I think you're right when you're talking, when they go to five man pressures,
- 36:59[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to look to get more athletic guys in there.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_01]: Ramello, height to go with a couple of defensive ends.
- 37:05[SPEAKER_01]: I think OSA digs you will kind of be the default defensive tackle.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_01]: And then after that, I think you can have a lot of defensive ends.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_01]: Just like you did last year where they're going to move key on.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_01]: Why do you rush as good on the inside?
- 37:13[SPEAKER_01]: Macell Williams, those guys will be bringing pressure from the inside.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_01]: So I like a five-man pressure, but I'm with you.
- 37:19[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go with a little bit more athleticism.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_01]: Guys who can stunt and put pressure on the quarterback.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and look at Maria.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_02]: For the first time in a while, defense looks dominant again.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_02]: Let's see.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_02]: The pieces are way better.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_02]: The depth is way better.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_02]: Gotta see how all these guys rebound from injuries and bring you back to a green law and all those kind of things.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's important.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_02]: Shout out to my man shade right here.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_02]: How many games will green law play?
- 37:48[SPEAKER_02]: He says he hopes 17.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_02]: But what are your thoughts there on Jray?
- 37:54[SPEAKER_02]: Because let's be really honest, you know, he's never played a full, he played 16 games his rookie year when there were 16 games.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_02]: He's never played 17 games.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he eight games last year, two the year before that.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_02]: But the 15 games and back to back years, 2022 and 2023, what are the expectations with Jray Greenmont?
- 38:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think you're looking at probably like around, you know, that 13 to 14 games, you know, or the he'll be ready to go, and there'll probably be some games he's nicked up that he needs to be out.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_01]: The 49ers are going to be very cautious with him.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_01]: The thing about Drake Greenlaw is you want him out.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_01]: There's much as possible.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, but when you get to play off time and I know that's always a big if, you know, people will say, hey, you can't just count on play off time, but that's when you need all your horses.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_01]: That's why people are talking about
- 38:44[SPEAKER_01]: making sure you're getting other players reps for Christian McCaffrey.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_01]: That'll be something that's important.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_01]: It'll also be important to have Drake Greenlaw healthy when the playoffs happen.
- 38:53[SPEAKER_01]: We've seen Drake in the playoffs.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_01]: Dre is a monster in the playoffs.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_01]: Making things happen, getting the football, and I think that that's going to be the most important thing.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_01]: So 13, 14 games that they could be realistic for Drake Greenlaw.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's fully removed now from his Achilles injury.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think that it's hindered him over the last two seasons, which kind of skewed this a little bit as far as games
- 39:14[SPEAKER_01]: I like the way they're handling him right now.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_01]: Him and Fred are chilling on the side, talking to where he Morris.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_01]: They are giving him the all-star treatment that he deserves.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that's going to help him when he gets into the season.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_01]: Because I think they're going to manage his load pretty well.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_02]: There we go, they gav right here.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_02]: Can we get a stat line prediction for OSA?
- 39:32[SPEAKER_02]: Whether you wanna go with SACS, pressures, quarterback hits, what are kind of your thoughts here for OSA or DigiZoo one, just to put this into perspective, the most SACS he's ever had is four and a half.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_02]: What he does better than anybody back to back season with 23 quarterback hits is bananas.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_02]: How do you kinda see him working out this year?
- 39:55[SPEAKER_01]: I think his sack numbers are going to go up because I think that the amount of pressure that's going to come from the outside, uh, with Ramello height Nick Bosa and the way that right over he Morris is going to generate pressure on the outside.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's going to funnel some quarterbacks to step up, they're going to step up to try to avoid.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's one thing Ramello height is going to bring his speed around the edge and sometimes that that's speaking, get a little bit deep.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_01]: Those quarterbacks are going to want to step up and for a guy who gets a ton of quarter
- 40:22[SPEAKER_01]: Now, it gets a few more sacs, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him break his career record for sacs in a season and do that because I think that when it comes to past rushers, he's not going to be a focal point and there's so many guys that are going to be doing so many things that I talked about him being the designated detackle with all these defensive ends that are going to be out there.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's going to give him some opportunities to get to the quarterback and I think he's going to have success this season.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_02]: Now, Chris Cousaric talked about OSA and said he's one of the hardest working people I've ever been around.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_02]: First one in.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_02]: Last one out.
- 40:53[SPEAKER_02]: If he does leave, he comes back like it just been a leader, leader, leader.
- 41:00[SPEAKER_02]: I want to start the OSA as a captain movement.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_02]: Is that crazy talk knowing that he just joined the team, but everybody that talks about it was just like, yeah, like, like, oh, yeah, this guy, he's exactly what you want, and he's mentoring all those young DTs and whatever else, but
- 41:28[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, you know, I mean they used to have Eric arms said, you know, be one of those captains, you know, it's it's possible.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_01]: But you guys come in in like Mike Evans, you know, he's going to be a captain on this football team for sure.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_01]: You already got Nick Bosa along the defensive line.
- 41:41[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's tough, you know, but I think you do look at guys who have been captains in the past.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_01]: I got like Dioma to the North continues to be a captain of this football team.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see what happens with that.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_01]: So there's always a chance.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_01]: I think Osa could do that.
- 41:52[SPEAKER_01]: But
- 41:54[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, the 49ers will see how many captains end up having, but I love that thought process from Chris Kassaric of how Osoid to get you as going about business.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_01]: And if there ever was a guy, if he's about business like that, that you want to have a captain, that's the kind of guy you want.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_01]: A guy that's going to do all the things
- 42:11[SPEAKER_01]: that you're supposed to do.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_01]: That is a signal to those young guys, you know, thinking about Alfred Collins and CJ West and Grayson Holtman learning from Osa Digazoo and how he goes about business.
- 42:21[SPEAKER_01]: That's important.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_01]: That's how you build and foster really good energy in a room and build culture.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_01]: So it's nice to see they got another culture guy that fits right in.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_01]: So if he was a captain, I wouldn't bat an eye.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_01]: I think that would be great for the team.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_01]: There's still no with all the holdovers that they have on this football team.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_01]: If there's enough spots for Osa as a captain.
- 42:37[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm very curious, the leadership at the top of this roster is pretty impressive.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_02]: Kimbro, one of the things I haven't talked about, Trent said he's done after next year.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_02]: That, you know, this is the first time Trent has said, yeah, I think this is it.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, the no holdout clause, the way they did the contract, does seem to say all signs are kind of
- 43:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think the 49ers now at least have a plan of attack, right?
- 43:09[SPEAKER_01]: They know what they have to do over the next couple seasons.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_01]: Number one, I think they know that they've got an aging roster in general.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_01]: They need to win a Super Bowl.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_01]: I think that they are invested in winning now.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_01]: I think this year, next year, they know that there's a window for this team to win with this particular core group of players.
- 43:26[SPEAKER_01]: And I think Trit Williams kind of expressing that.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's not exactly one one for the Gipper type thing,
- 43:31[SPEAKER_01]: You know that they're going to be invested in winning and I do think that when you get to the trade deadline the 49ers as long as they're in it They're going to be looking to make a move to put them over the top.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_01]: They didn't make a miles Garrett move now But there could be a move at the trade deadline We've seen the 49ers be willing to do that I think they're going to want to get a win and I think a lot of these players want that Super Bowl win.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_01]: They know what it means
- 43:51[SPEAKER_01]: Not just for their career, but for their legacy.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_01]: And I think Trit Williams wants to walk into the Hall of Fame with a Super Bowl win.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_01]: That's why he keeps re-upping for the 49ers' generation of wealth.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, win the Super Bowl.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, and I think that's what he's trying to do.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_01]: But now the 49ers know that next year, they probably need to invest in a tackle of the future for left tackle.
- 44:09[SPEAKER_01]: So get the popcorn ready for the 2027 first round and see if the 49ers will actually take an offensive tackle high in that draft.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_02]: You did have Chris Forster say in that he saw in Riquecruis as a starter in this league.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_02]: We shall see.
- 44:25[SPEAKER_02]: Austin could read he Morris, be shit a hand, spagnola, that's what you're hoping for.
- 44:30[SPEAKER_02]: That's what you're hoping for.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_02]: You know, a remorse has been a two-time head coach.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_02]: Usually, don't get that third chance.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_02]: Like what that looks like, whatever else, like it would be wonderful to lock down and opposing coach.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_02]: It won, you know, remorse has already won a Super Bowl as a defense coordinator.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_02]: Like he's been there, he's done that.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_02]: I would be very happy if those two are coaching the 49ers for a very, very, very long time.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_02]: That would be awesome.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_02]: That would be awesome.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_02]: Now, I will say this.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_02]: I wanted to make sure I felt like I kind of cut you off and to give you a chance to answer this one earlier.
- 45:06[SPEAKER_02]: I threw in my marquee Siegel answer shout out to Kim Bro again.
- 45:10[SPEAKER_02]: Now that OTAs are over who are you most excited to see in pads will wrap it up with this one.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_02]: I cut you off very rudely and I want to make sure you got a chance to answer this one.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'm most excited to see the defensive line.
- 45:24[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I want to see Osa Digi Zua in Pads for the 49ers and what it looks like in this team.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_01]: I want to see Alfred Collins and CJ West and how they've improved from last season.
- 45:34[SPEAKER_01]: Because I think that that defensive line is going to be the motor for this 49ers football team when it comes to defense.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_01]: And I know that there's a lot of conversation about Fred Warner and Drake Greenlaw.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_01]: and how great they are and they are great, but that defensive line is what keeps those guys clean.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_01]: And if you that defensive line can put pressure on the quarterback if they can do all the dirty work taking on double teams, it's going to make things extremely easy for those linebackers to go do the things that they need to do.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_01]: Big play, Dre, all pro-fred, they get that way because of a great defensive line and the 49ers have had players in front of them in the past that have been really good.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_01]: So I want to see how that investment is working out, whether that's the trade for OSA,
- 46:12[SPEAKER_01]: or those young guys that they've brought in, and even Grace and Holt, and I think that's going to be interesting as well.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_01]: They've tried to flip the script on what it was last year, where it's extremely light.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't great, but this year, I think they're invested a lot in, and I'm curious to see those guys play.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_01]: I love watching the big guys go, and I think that those big guys are also going to make the offensive line better as well, because they're extremely athletic and extremely big, so I'm excited to watch the D-line.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_02]: This season is just getting more and more exciting by the day.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_02]: It really, really is.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_02]: And if you were 98 days away from kickoff right now, shout out to Eric Myzery runs my social media, our social media, he puts those out every day and I'm like 98 days, not that far.
- 46:50[SPEAKER_02]: Kind of too far.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_02]: And we're entering into kind of the only slow period the NFL allows in the calendar.
- 46:57[SPEAKER_02]: 49 hours have dismissed, many can't, but it's not even gonna have it.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_02]: They's going to show that a little bit, which is kind of good.
- 47:04[SPEAKER_02]: Let's be honest, the faithful needs a little bit breathing time.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_02]: Go watch some basketball relax, get outside a little bit, whatever else.
- 47:11[SPEAKER_02]: I wish it was crazy all the time, but it's where we are.
- 47:14[SPEAKER_02]: What are your thoughts just on the upcoming off season?
- 47:18[SPEAKER_02]: How you feel about this break?
- 47:20[SPEAKER_02]: 98 days away from kickoff, all those things.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_01]: Well I think it's tough when it comes to content right like if you're if you're a person that makes a lot of content coming up with stuff all the time is it's somewhat difficult at times I mean if you're talking scheme and players is not so bad I do think that this is very important for the players I think the players need to get away they need to get ready for the season so I love that part of it I think that also it builds anticipation because now with nothing going on
- 47:48[SPEAKER_01]: When the 49ers get to July and they lock it up for training camp, there is going to be a fever pitch surrounding this team.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone's going to want to see Mike Evans.
- 47:56[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone wants to see Stribbling of what he's capable of doing.
- 47:59[SPEAKER_01]: I think this is going to be fun.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'm really excited about, you know, 98 days and the 49ers getting back on the field and making things happen.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_01]: And when they line up in Australia.
- 48:09[SPEAKER_01]: I hope that they're ready to roll and, you know, if they go in there and what's interesting the Miles Garrett thing, I definitely increased the odds of the Rams winning, but they only got a point right now right three and a half point favor to according to a lot of the sports books.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_01]: That wasn't a huge jump like I was expecting.
- 48:24[SPEAKER_01]: So 40 honors are definitely still considered one of the teams to beat in the NFL.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're going to go out and prove it.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think this is going to be a really fun season.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_01]: I'm excited about the team.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I'm pumped, man.
- 48:35[SPEAKER_02]: I'm pumped.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_02]: It's gonna be fun.
- 48:37[SPEAKER_02]: And so, thankful for you, man.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_02]: Appreciate all that you do for everybody.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_02]: That's watching, listening, whatever.
