Transcript
- 0:00Hi everyone, welcome to Mini Scroll, the daily Internet
- 0:03culture podcast bringing you the biggest stories from social
- 0:07media, the creator economy and the digital space every Monday
- 0:10through Thursday. I'm your host, Lauren Meisner,
- 0:13the founder of the youth digital media brand Centennial World.
- 0:18Welcome back to Mini Scroll everyone, and happy Wednesday.
- 0:22OK, I have some housekeeping stuff to get through before we
- 0:25get into the stories for today. First of all, if you guys watch
- 0:29the podcast #1 we are available now on Spotify to watch and #2
- 0:35my sleeve is soaking wet because I spilled soy sauce on it when I
- 0:39was having lunch and it didn't have time to dry.
- 0:42The next housekeeping thing is that tomorrow I will be filming
- 0:46or recording AQ and A for the podcast that will go live on
- 0:51Friday, October 11th. So instead of a deep dive, you
- 0:54guys will get AQ and A from me. I don't know how I feel about Q
- 0:58and AS like I, I love watching them.
- 1:00I don't know how I feel about producing one for the podcast
- 1:02because it feels a bit like lazy content.
- 1:06However, once a year, Jordy and I typically did AQ and A, so I
- 1:10did want to keep that going for you guys because there's so many
- 1:13new listeners now, especially with YouTube.
- 1:16Also because we have a very busy week the following week because
- 1:20it's South by Southwest in Sydney.
- 1:22So very exciting. We are partnering with a brand
- 1:25for the first couple of days. So we'll be on the ground there
- 1:28Monday, Tuesday and then I'm actually speaking on two panels
- 1:33on Wednesday and one of them apparently allegedly is on the
- 1:37mainstage. So it's going to be a crazy week
- 1:41and my team and I will not have time to prep and record our
- 1:46typical like meaty deep dive for the next Friday after that.
- 1:50So basically my point is we need to do all the prepping and
- 1:53recording in the next like week and a half to backlog for the
- 1:57busyness. So I needed something easy to
- 2:00get up for next week. And I don't know, I didn't want
- 2:03to leave you guys hanging. I know I could have maybe just
- 2:05not released one, but I just took two weeks off.
- 2:07So I felt kind of bad. So that being said, in terms of
- 2:11schedule and also by the way, there's always time stamps down
- 2:13below. Whenever I do anything
- 2:15housekeeping on mini scroll, people are like skip to blah,
- 2:18blah, blah. And it's like there are always
- 2:19time stamps. If you don't give a shit, skip
- 2:21to the time stamps. So Monday, this coming Monday,
- 2:24the 7th is a holiday, a public holiday in Australia, so or at
- 2:28least in NSW. So I will be off then.
- 2:33So there will be no mini scroll on Monday and the Wednesday when
- 2:36I'm speaking on two panels at South by Southwest, which is
- 2:39October 16th, there will also be no mini scroll.
- 2:42Then because I literally just will not have capacity, I will
- 2:45not be able to get a mini scroll up.
- 2:47I will be very focused on something else.
- 2:50The reason why I brought up the Q&A, sorry, I completely just
- 2:53went off track there is because if you have questions, please
- 2:56either comment them on YouTube on this video on the community
- 2:59tab, I put a little blurb where you can leave a comment or you
- 3:03can slide into my Instagram DMS. I put a comment box on Instagram
- 3:07or you can also leave it on Spotify.
- 3:08You can comment specifically on certain episodes.
- 3:11So lots of ways to ask me questions.
- 3:14OK. The first story that I have for
- 3:15you guys is that Trisha Paytas has addressed the end of
- 3:20Frenemies on the Soul Boom podcast.
- 3:23So Tricia went on Rainn Wilson's podcast this week, which is like
- 3:26truly the craziest crossover. Another absolutely crazy
- 3:30crossover. And I don't know if this is
- 3:31going to mean very much to you guys, but for me, a Bravo
- 3:36obsessed queen, Brittany Cartwright from Vanderpump
- 3:40Rules. And is it Brie, not Brie Larson,
- 3:43Brie Van de Kamp? Marsha Cross?
- 3:47They posted a photo together like 2 days ago and I lost my
- 3:51mind. I have no idea.
- 3:53Those two people to me do not exist in the same world.
- 3:55They do not exist in the same universe, in the same realm.
- 3:59I literally thought I was in the Twilight Zone.
- 4:03So yes, Tricia Paytas and Rainn Wilson are kind of up there on
- 4:06that list for me as well. So she went on his podcast and
- 4:09she finally spoke for the first time about the dissolution of
- 4:12frenemies from 20/21. So I'll play a clip, but I will
- 4:16say she didn't get into like too many specifics.
- 4:19However, Rain also wouldn't let her stay vague or like wouldn't
- 4:25let her kind of brush it under the rug.
- 4:27So he really did press her and I thought it was an interesting
- 4:31response, so I'll play the clip. Honestly, it's like traumatic.
- 4:35I don't, I've never talked about it like it's, it's online.
- 4:38I think if people know, they know, but it's actually and a
- 4:40lot of it was. Can you?
- 4:41Talk about it here. Is this a safe space?
- 4:45It is, but I don't know if the internet's a safe space like I,
- 4:48because you know what, because it is still so fresh, right?
- 4:50Like it's a few years ago, a lot of it was brought on by me.
- 4:53I would say like 90% of it was definitely brought on by me
- 4:56because I just, I couldn't handle the triggers that I was
- 4:59able to. There's just a situation I was
- 5:01in that triggered me a lot and I'm putting it all on me and
- 5:03like not on anyone else. Like it triggered me so much and
- 5:06I thought I was like strong enough to like handle these
- 5:08triggers, but it just, it didn't work.
- 5:10So I had a psychotic break in September of 2021.
- 5:14What happened? I went online, there's it's
- 5:17deleted now. I just went on Twitter.
- 5:18It wasn't even YouTube. And I just was like screaming,
- 5:20sobbing, like I couldn't control myself, like I couldn't breathe.
- 5:23Just like shouting at people to like leave me alone.
- 5:26And let me just pause you right there.
- 5:29What is it about you? And I'm just really trying to
- 5:31understand this. Like I'm.
- 5:34I'm so activated, I'm so angry, I'm so triggered.
- 5:38I'm so overwhelmed. I'm about to just lose my Shim.
- 5:41I have psychotic break. Yeah, but I gotta log in.
- 5:44Yeah. And hit live stream and put it
- 5:47in the tripod and press and make sure my lights on.
- 5:51And now I'm going to have the psychotic break.
- 5:54What is going on? What OK, what is what's the deal
- 5:57with that though? What is that impulse?
- 5:58And again, is it because you're getting that reward from doing
- 6:01it? The more that you have kind of
- 6:03nervous breakdowns online, then you get, you know, the money
- 6:06truck backs up or what I. Think in the past it would have
- 6:08been, but this was the reason I mentioned Twitter is because
- 6:10like you couldn't monetize Twitter back then.
- 6:11So I remember putting it because to me it was like, because I've
- 6:15been cancelled, I've been in so many feuds.
- 6:17Again, a lot of my doing I was drama.
- 6:20I'm. Going to slow you down here
- 6:22because I know I want to get, there's a lot of big
- 6:24generalizations I don't want to get like real, more specific
- 6:26like, yeah. One thing I've never talked
- 6:28about and I because I've healed so much because it was literally
- 6:31like, and this sounds so silly because it's like I've been
- 6:34through like like literally sexual assault when I was a kid
- 6:37by like teachers like crazy shit.
- 6:38But this like one event? I don't know, it's just
- 6:40something I haven't processed or worked through quite yet.
- 6:43So I've seen a lot, of course, about this particular moment on
- 6:47the podcast, on Reddit. People are saying they're proud
- 6:51of her for taking accountability and kind of, you know, taking
- 6:55ownership of a lot of what happened between her and Ethan.
- 6:58And then there are other people who are saying that her response
- 7:01feels very reminiscent of, like, when you are dealing with
- 7:04somebody, especially in your family, who is so toxic that you
- 7:09just have to, like, take the blame and just kind of deflect
- 7:12from the question because you don't want to end up getting,
- 7:15you know, abusive text messages or end up being talked about
- 7:20more by that person who is really toxic.
- 7:22And so some people feel like maybe that's what she was doing
- 7:26in that moment because she doesn't want to publicly talk
- 7:28talk about it. Because I think there has been a
- 7:31shift in perception about Ethan Klein over the last probably
- 7:35like year. I would say mostly, and that's
- 7:38also a big discussion on Reddit is people are talking about this
- 7:41specific clip. And then they're talking about,
- 7:43you know, how they kind of perceive Ethan and Tricia's
- 7:47relationship and also the dissolution of their
- 7:49relationship with a new perspective on Ethan.
- 7:52And that's absolutely not to absolve Tricia from her horrible
- 7:56behavior over the years on front Emmys throughout that period.
- 8:00Yeah, she has had, I mean, we've done deep dives on her.
- 8:03I actually think I might do an updated deep dive because I
- 8:05think the last time Jordy and I did a deep dive on her, we did
- 8:08A2 parter and I think it was like 20-20, maybe 20/21.
- 8:13It was a long time ago. I was thinking about doing an
- 8:15updated one. But yeah, she, you guys know, I
- 8:19love her, but she is seriously problematic and has done some
- 8:24seriously horrible fucked up things.
- 8:26But Frenemies just gave us, I mean, frenemies was so special
- 8:30when it was good. It was so good and people loved
- 8:35to see their friendship bloom, their families merge like that.
- 8:39But now it's so much more complicated with children
- 8:42involved with, you know, Ethan. I mean, I'm with Tricia and
- 8:46Moses getting married. Like there is a lot more at
- 8:49stake now. So I appreciate that.
- 8:52She was really, I think that answer was really graceful on
- 8:54Rain Wilson's podcast. And I will let you guys know if
- 8:58Ethan responds because I feel like he might OK the next story
- 9:03that I have. This is a big trigger warning.
- 9:06I am giving a Diddy update and it is a really horrible story.
- 9:11So definitely go down to the time stamps or click out.
- 9:14So 120 more people have come forward with sexual assault
- 9:19allegations against Diddy since his arrest, including 25 minors.
- 9:26On Tuesday, it was revealed that 120 accusers have come forward
- 9:30against Diddy, claiming that the media mogul sexually assaulted
- 9:33them. One of the plaintiff's attorneys
- 9:36said the complaints were, quote, unprecedented in scope and the
- 9:40allegations included both men and women ranging from 9 years
- 9:45old to 38 years old. In many cases, accusers claim
- 9:49that they were drugged with horse tranquilizer.
- 9:52And one of the accusers, a nine year old boy, claims he was
- 9:55sexually assaulted while auditioning for Diddy to be part
- 9:58of bad boy Records. So in terms of how Diddy is
- 10:01responding to, I mean, the entire thing, but like also
- 10:04these new allegations. Diddy's lawyer said he cannot
- 10:07respond to quote every meritless allegation in what has become a
- 10:12reckless media circus. That said, Mr. Combs
- 10:16empathetically and categorically denies as false and defamatory
- 10:20any claim that he sexually abused anyone, including minors.
- 10:25He looks forward to proving his innocence and vindicating
- 10:28himself in court if and when claims are filed and served,
- 10:32where the truth will be established based on evidence,
- 10:34not speculation. OK, so when I first covered the
- 10:38Diddy arrest last week, I think it was, I actually cut this part
- 10:43out. I I was talking about in the
- 10:45episode and then this is delusional.
- 10:47But I got like scared. And I was telling Sean I was
- 10:51like, yeah, I had a take on the podcast about how, you know, he
- 10:54is like vehemently denying this. And that's like the stance is
- 10:58like, he is not guilty. That's the stance that he's
- 10:59taking and his lawyers are taking.
- 11:01And I said on the podcast, but like, I cut it out.
- 11:04I said like a case of this size, the government arresting
- 11:08somebody who is literally like the media mogul, like he is one
- 11:13of the most powerful people in media, possibly one of the most
- 11:16powerful men in the world, or at least in America.
- 11:19You know, he is so, so incredibly powerful and wealthy.
- 11:22They don't just arrest you for no reason.
- 11:26You know, they have, I am sure, years and years of evidence.
- 11:31And I said that on the podcast. And I was like, I'm actually too
- 11:35scared to say that. Like I'm scared that Diddy's
- 11:39like team is going to come for me.
- 11:41And Sean was like, you think that out of everyone in the
- 11:45meet, all the media outlets, all the commentators, all the
- 11:48podcasters, whatever that are talking about this, you think
- 11:51that they care about you. I was like, OK, that's actually
- 11:54so true. Like that is delulu.
- 11:56So anyways, I'm saying it now. It is so wild that they're going
- 12:00to maintain not guilty, not guilty when there is apparently
- 12:05just so much evidence and the US Attorney like they are, they're
- 12:10not making mistakes like this, especially against someone who
- 12:14is that powerful. And I did just want to say one
- 12:18thing. I think I haven't seen a ton of
- 12:20it, but I have seen a few brands and just like people in general
- 12:26sharing, posting, commenting on, liking whatever memes about the
- 12:321000 bottles of baby oil and some of the kind of like insane
- 12:37parts of this story that feel kind of icky or weird.
- 12:42Obviously not the illegal things, not the really horrific
- 12:45things, but those kind of quirky moments from this whole arrest
- 12:49this case, like everything that's come out.
- 12:51And I just think that is so distasteful and so disgusting.
- 12:55And I think we really, really need to think about how we are
- 12:58talking about this and like a memefying this moment.
- 13:01There are possibly hundreds of victims.
- 13:04And if you think about the people in your life who are
- 13:07survivors and how they feel when they see you, like reposting a
- 13:11meme about baby oil, given the context of what that means and
- 13:18what that represents, I just think it's really damaging and
- 13:22it's sick. And we absolutely need to stop
- 13:25that. Okay.
- 13:26And the last thing that I wanted to actually two things.
- 13:29I wanted to share two final things.
- 13:31These are not like big official stories, but the first is that
- 13:34the founder, the actual founder of Crumble has come out and
- 13:39addressed the crumble Australia just like in a tick tock really
- 13:42quickly saying like we have no affiliation with Crumble.
- 13:45And then they made a joke about how they like guess they should
- 13:48expedite their timeline on making it to Australia, which
- 13:52please. Also, I know that a lot of
- 13:54people don't like Crumble. I I don't care.
- 13:57I still am desperate to try it. Like I still need to try it.
- 14:00And then I also got some comments about the fact that I
- 14:02was just in Canada. And I went on this huge rant
- 14:05yesterday about how I'm so desperate to try Crumble and
- 14:07they don't have them in Australia, but I was literally
- 14:10just in Canada for like 3 weeks. And to that I say I fumble.
- 14:15I actually had no idea that crumble was available in Canada.
- 14:18I'd only ever seen people eat it on TikTok in the US.
- 14:21My parents also retired to the middle of nowhere.
- 14:23So I actually don't know if I could have got crumble when I
- 14:26was home. But regardless, that's why I
- 14:29didn't because I literally just didn't know it was in Canada.
- 14:32OK, And the last thing I wanted to touch on is that I got a
- 14:36comment. So I posted something on my like
- 14:38Instagram story being like, what do you guys think this comment
- 14:41is about? Somebody tagged me on TikTok
- 14:44being like, you need to talk about this.
- 14:45And I just like took that screenshot.
- 14:47ANYWAYS, they were tagging me in a crumble cookie video, but I
- 14:50posted it on my stories and so many people had like such good
- 14:53responses to what they thought that I was going to be covering.
- 14:56A lot of people said crumble, but one person said sepia bride
- 15:00getting divorced. So I was like, Oh my God, I
- 15:02forgot that happened. So I just wanted to touch on it
- 15:04really quickly. I don't know know if you guys
- 15:06remember, I don't think I talked about sepia bride on mini
- 15:09scroll, but there was a bride she went so viral like grew a
- 15:13huge following from complaining about her wedding photos, how
- 15:18her wedding photographer edited all her photos to look like
- 15:22sepia toned essentially. And she wanted them to be much
- 15:26more natural, much more editorial.
- 15:28And she also was fighting to get the raw images because her
- 15:32photographer, I don't know if she I can't really remember the
- 15:34story. I don't remember if she wouldn't
- 15:36re edit them. And so she went absolutely viral
- 15:38for like documenting the saga. And it was so divisive.
- 15:41So many people were like looking at the photographer her.
- 15:45I mean, she put this first of all, she put this woman on
- 15:46blast. Horrible.
- 15:48We're looking at the style of photos and being like, that is
- 15:51the style of photo that this photographer does.
- 15:52Like, what did you expect when you hired her type of thing?
- 15:55And then other people were like, yeah, it is ridiculous that like
- 15:57when you hire a photographer, especially for a moment as big
- 16:00as your wedding, that they won't include the raw images if you
- 16:04ask for them. So I just fact checked the
- 16:06photographer would give her the RAW files, but for $4000 extra.
- 16:10OK, so this is this is kind of wild.
- 16:14And she's made jokes on her TikTok about the fact that like
- 16:17she built her following off of being sepia bride, like off of
- 16:19her wedding and now she's getting a divorce.
- 16:22And the one thing I will say is that people are being really
- 16:25savage about this in terms of being like, I knew she was a
- 16:27nightmare from the moment that I saw her videos and how she was
- 16:31putting this photographer on blast.
- 16:32And like, I think we just need to separate like how she acted
- 16:35in that moment around her wedding.
- 16:39Obviously, I, I do agree that the videos and the way she was
- 16:42going after the photographer and stuff like they were, it was
- 16:45horrible. We need to separate that like
- 16:47that behavior and that saga from her getting a divorce and just
- 16:52labeling her like, you know, point blank, a bad person who
- 16:56was a nightmare to be married to.
- 16:57And now a few months later she's getting a divorce.
- 17:00I think divorce is very sad, no matter what the circumstances.
- 17:04And she said on TikTok too, it is possible that she she, she
- 17:07says she like maintains that she did not like the photos and
- 17:10that, you know, her complaints and everything that happened on
- 17:13TikTok, like that was because she didn't like the photos.
- 17:15But she did say on TikTok, it is possible that I was taking a lot
- 17:20of my unhappiness out on either the photographer or like just
- 17:25blowing this situation out of proportion because I was like
- 17:27unhappy in my relationship. So, and that's a little tidbit
- 17:32on that. Anyways, guys, that's it for
- 17:34mini scroll today. Thank you so much for listening.
- 17:37Please remember to rate review and subscribe.
- 17:39Please leave me questions for my Q&A because I am recording it
- 17:43tomorrow. So I got to get the questions
- 17:45ASAP. I love you guys and I will talk
- 17:47to you tomorrow as well. OK, bye.
