- 0:00Exodus chapter 28, Let's start in verse one and take you unto
- 0:06you Aaron, your brother and his sons with him from among the
- 0:08children of Israel, that he may minister unto me in the priests
- 0:12office, even Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, Eliazar, Itamar, Aaron's
- 0:17sons. So we're going to get to see
- 0:19here in this transitional chapter where we go from all of
- 0:23the things that are required for the Tabernacle into what is
- 0:27required for the clothing of the high priest and those who
- 0:32minister inside of the Tabernacle.
- 0:34Verse 2 And you shall make holy garments for Aaron, your
- 0:40brother, for glory and for beauty.
- 0:43So think about it. Sinful man must put on this
- 0:47glory and this beauty that God has prescribed.
- 0:50And we see that Christ had the glory and beauty on the inside,
- 0:55but on the outside he resembled a man.
- 0:57What an amazing paradox that we can see here in this 28th
- 1:02chapter of Exodus. You're going to get to see God's
- 1:05mind in the vast of it, friends. He has the mind larger than all
- 1:11the ocean put together, friends, and we're just trying to play
- 1:14catch up. Verse 3 And you shall speak unto
- 1:18all that are wise hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of
- 1:23wisdom that they make. They may make Aaron's garments
- 1:27to consecrate him, and he may minister unto me in the priest's
- 1:30office. So verse 3 is a pivotal verse in
- 1:33this chapter where you can see who is the one who's actually
- 1:37fueling them. We can see that God Almighty is
- 1:41giving them this very miraculous insight and the ability to not
- 1:47only know about it, but to actually materialize all of the
- 1:51things that God is asking for. And it's the same within the
- 1:56temple, it's the same within the Tabernacle, friends, that God
- 2:01has supernaturally given wisdom and given ability to these
- 2:08humans here, and they are able to go in and do the things that
- 2:14God has asked them to do. What an amazing God we serve
- 2:20for. And these are the garments which
- 2:22you shall make, a breastplate and an ephod and a robe and a
- 2:26broidered coat, a mitre and a girdle, And you shall make holy
- 2:30garments for Aaron your brother and his sons, that he may
- 2:33minister unto me in the priest's office.
- 2:36So this was like a holy suit that he was to put on, and it
- 2:40had all different kinds of layers.
- 2:42We saw that there was a turban to put on his head.
- 2:45We saw that there was this ephod which was kind of like a vest.
- 2:52You can see here that there are so many different layers, and
- 2:56God has a reason for every single one of them.
- 2:59Let's keep going. 5 And you shall take gold and blue and
- 3:02purple and scarlet and fine linen.
- 3:05So we get to see royalty, we get to see the blood of Jesus
- 3:08Christ, we get to see the heaven, and we get to see
- 3:11purity, all wrapped up in the same way that we did in the
- 3:17articles within the Tabernacle. 6 And they shall make the ephod
- 3:20of gold, and blue, and purple and scarlet, and fine twine
- 3:24linen, with cunning work. 7 And it shall have two shoulder
- 3:28pieces thereof joined at the two edges thereof, and so shall it
- 3:33be joined together. So we get to see the high
- 3:36priest. He actually has to bear the
- 3:39brunt and bear the weight of these 12 tribes, and that's why
- 3:43they were placed on his shoulders. 7 And it shall have
- 3:46the two shoulder pieces join the two edges of it, and so it shall
- 3:50be joined together. 8 And the curious girdle of the ephod
- 3:55which is upon it shall be of the same, according to the work
- 3:58thereof, even if gold, blue, purple, scarlet, and fine twine
- 4:03linen. 9 And you shall take 2 Onyx stones and grave on them
- 4:07the names of the children of Israel. 10 Six of their names on
- 4:12the one stone, and the other six names of the rest of the other
- 4:16stone, according to their birth. So these two Onyx stones had six
- 4:23names on each of them that represented the 12 tribes of
- 4:27Israel, the 12 sons of Jacob 11 With the work of their engraver
- 4:35in stone, like the engravings of a signet, you shall engrave the
- 4:392 stones with the names of the children of Israel.
- 4:42You shall make them to be set in the ouches of gold.
- 4:46So here you can see that not only does the high priest bear
- 4:50the brunt in the weight of the 12 tribes on his shoulders, but
- 4:54they are also to be close to his heart.
- 4:58And that is what you need to understand about a loving and
- 5:01graceful and good God, that he is full of justice.
- 5:08He is a just God. Not only is he a loving God, but
- 5:11he's a just God as well. And aren't we thankful that he
- 5:16is not just one or the other? That God is perfect in all of
- 5:22His ways and we do not need to try to make God into the image
- 5:29of our own selves and how we think and what we would do and
- 5:33all of the likes. We get out of our own intellect,
- 5:36we get out of our own way, we get out of our own reasoning and
- 5:40understanding of how we think God should be, and we just say
- 5:44yes and Amen to every jot, every title, every syllable, every
- 5:50single letter that is inside of His word.
- 5:53He has given us the full council, the full authority, and
- 5:58that is what you hold in your hands today.
- 6:01There is nothing that needs to be added or subtracted to the
- 6:04Word of God. He has given us His full counsel
- 6:07and here it is for us to study, to reason.
- 6:10And I'm so incredibly blessed to be on this journey with you,
- 6:16friend. I'm so thankful that you are
- 6:18here and we are learning together. 12 And you shall put
- 6:27the 2 stones upon the shoulders, the ephod for stones of
- 6:31memorial, and to the children of Israel.
- 6:33And Aaron shall bear the names before the Lord upon his two
- 6:37shoulders for a memorial. 13 And you shall make ouches of gold,
- 6:43and two chains, pure gold, at the ends of wreath and work, and
- 6:49you shall make them, and fasten the wreath and chains to the
- 6:52ouches. So here we're going to get to
- 6:55see that there are little bells that are on the high priests.
- 7:02And as he goes into the holiest of holy places, where the
- 7:06Shekinah manifest glory of God, the presence of God is.
- 7:11And it was a dangerous place, friends, because of God's power.
- 7:19And you see it break out in the Bible.
- 7:22You see His Holiness is set apartness, friends, And they
- 7:27must consecrate themselves. And the best way to think about
- 7:31consecration is going into the temple and taking anything out
- 7:36of it that does not belong. Anything that's holding you back
- 7:40from God, You must release it, get rid of it, lay it on the
- 7:44altar. Let God burn it up, friends.
- 7:47And if the high priest did not do so, if he did not do
- 7:51everything just right and he went in without any reverence
- 7:58for God, it was a dangerous place.
- 8:00So the bells stood in the place to allow the people outside of
- 8:05the holiest of holy places to know that the priest was still
- 8:08alive. And if he wasn't, they'd have to
- 8:11drag him out by a rope that was attached to him. 15 And you
- 8:17shall make the breastplate of judgment with cutting work after
- 8:21the work of the epod shall you make it of gold, blue, purple,
- 8:25scarlet, fine twine, linen. And you shall make it 4 square.
- 8:29It shall be being doubled. A span shall be the length of
- 8:33it, and the span shall be the breadth of it.
- 8:36And you shall set in it settings of stones, even 4 rows of
- 8:41stones. The first row shall be Sardius
- 8:44and Topaz and carpal. This shall be the first row 18.
- 8:48And the second row shall be an emerald and a sapphire and a
- 8:52diamond 19 and the third row liquor amethyst 20.
- 8:57In the 4th row Burrell, Onyx, Jasper.
- 9:01They shall be set in gold in their enclosing.
- 9:04So you can see how the 12 tribes of Israel are set in gold, and
- 9:09it doesn't even matter all of their place within the hierarchy
- 9:14of it all, they're all set in gold.
- 9:17They're set in God's eyes. Their names are written upon the
- 9:21gates of New Jerusalem. Friends, they are represented in
- 9:26the 24 elders in the throne room.
- 9:28Friends, these 12 tribes, we've got the 12 apostles and the 12
- 9:33tribes of Israel represented in all of the completion of what
- 9:38God wanted to do on this earth for humanity.
- 9:42What an amazing God we serve. You can see that the church and
- 9:45you can see that the Jews are intermingled in together, and we
- 9:50wouldn't even be here without them.
- 9:52Don't forget it, friends. 21 And the stones shall be with the
- 9:59names of the children of Israel. 12 According to their names,
- 10:04like the engravings of a signet, every one of his names shall be
- 10:08the they be according to the 12 tribes. 22 And you shall make
- 10:13upon the breastplate chains at the end of the wreath and work
- 10:16of pure gold. And you shall make upon the
- 10:19breastplate 2 rings of gold. And you shall put the two rings
- 10:22on the 2 ends of the breastplate. 24 And you shall
- 10:26put the two wreath and chains of gold in the two rings which are
- 10:30on the ends of the breastplate. 25 And the other two ends of the
- 10:35two wreath and chains shall you fasten in the 2 couches, and put
- 10:39them on the shoulder pieces of the epod before. 26 And you
- 10:43shall make two rings of gold, and you shall put them upon the
- 10:462 ends of the breastplate in the border of it, which is in the
- 10:50side of the epod inward. 27 And the two other rings of gold you
- 10:55shall make, and you shall put them on the two sides of the
- 10:58epod underneath, toward the four part thereof, over against the
- 11:03other couplings thereof, above the curious girdle of the epod.
- 11:0828 And they shall bind the breastplate by the rings of it
- 11:12unto the rings of the ephod, with the lace of blue, that it
- 11:15may be above the curious girdle of the ephod, and that the
- 11:19breastplate be not loosed from the ephod.
- 11:22So you can see here that God is very detailed in every little
- 11:26thing on side of this suit for the high priest, as he puts it
- 11:32on. Everything has a meaning, and
- 11:35it's no different in our life right now, in this moment.
- 11:39Friends, we know that Jesus Christ is the great high priest.
- 11:43He's the King of kings, and he's also our high priest, and he
- 11:47holds both offices all at once. And he is making us into a royal
- 11:52priesthood, friends. And God cares about every single
- 11:57little detail, all the way to the color and the measurements.
- 12:02This is the God that we serve. Nothing is haphazard, friends.
- 12:06God does everything well. Don't forget it. 29 And Aaron
- 12:12shall bear the names of the children of Israel in the
- 12:15breastplate of judgment upon his heart when he goes into the holy
- 12:19place for a memorial before the Lord continually.
- 12:22So. You can see here that not only
- 12:24did the high priest bear the weight of all the 12 tribes on
- 12:28his shoulders, but he also kept them close to his heart. 30 And
- 12:32you shall put the breastplate of judgment, the Urim, and the
- 12:35thumb, and they shall be upon Aaron's heart, and when he goes
- 12:40in before the Lord, And Aaron shall bear the judgment of the
- 12:43children of Israel upon his heart before the Lord
- 12:46continually. So here's a very interesting,
- 12:50mysterious part of the Bible that many commentators and
- 12:56theologians can debate about. But Needless to say, this Urim
- 13:03and the Stummin, friends, these were stones that would go in to
- 13:09this holy suit, this holy attire that the high priest was to put
- 13:15on. And he would grab for these
- 13:18stones. And the stones would help him to
- 13:21make decisions about the nation of Israel, friends.
- 13:26And that is what you're going to see congruent throughout
- 13:30scripture and it drops off later on in scripture.
- 13:34But even David himself used the Urim and the Thummim to find out
- 13:39about King Saul. So we get to see this amazing
- 13:43mysterious 2 stones that were to give some kind of judgment.
- 13:48But when the prophets arrive on the scene and God not only gives
- 13:53a yes or no, but He starts to explain some of the mind of
- 13:57Christ and the mind kind of God, the heart of God, friends, He
- 14:01starts to explain it to us, even though he doesn't owe us any
- 14:05explanation, but he starts explaining a lot of his heart
- 14:09and the reasonings behind things through the prophets.
- 14:11You see this Urim and this thumb go away, and it disappears off
- 14:16the scene. 31 And you shall make the robe of the ephod all blue.
- 14:2232 And there shall be a hole in the top of it, in the midst of
- 14:26it, and you should have a binding of woven work round and
- 14:29about the whole of it, as it were the whole of a harbichon,
- 14:34and that it not be ripped. So you can see that this is the
- 14:38robe of the ephod. 33 And beneath upon the hem of it you
- 14:42shall make pomegranates of blue and purple of scarlet round and
- 14:47about the hem of it, and bells of gold between and around and
- 14:51about them. This is to sign to everyone that
- 14:54the high priest is still alive, and he has not been stricken
- 14:58dead by the holy presence of God. 34 And a a golden bell and
- 15:06pomegranate, a golden bell, pomegranate upon the hem of the
- 15:11road round and about it. 35 And it shall be upon Aaron to
- 15:16minister, and his sound shall be heard when he goes in unto the
- 15:21holy place before the Lord, and when he comes out that he die.
- 15:25Not so. This is to show everybody, Hey,
- 15:29the high priest is still alive, do not worry. 36 And you shall
- 15:33make a plate of pure gold engrave upon it, like the
- 15:38engravings of a signet. Holiness to the Lord.
- 15:43So right on Aaron's forehead it was to say, Holiness to the
- 15:48Lord. Holiness is set apartness.
- 15:53He is set apart for this work, but he must consecrate himself,
- 15:58get rid of all of the sin, get rid of every single thing, deal
- 16:03with every single thing in his life before he even tries to
- 16:07come in to the presence of the Lord.
- 16:09Aren't you thankful that the blood of Jesus Christ covers you
- 16:13so that you can come in to the holiest of holy places?
- 16:16He ripped the veil from top to bottom so that you and I can
- 16:20come in covered by the blood of Jesus Christ.
- 16:22I pray that you have accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as your
- 16:26Savior. I pray that you have been washed
- 16:30in the blood, not just dunked in some water.
- 16:33I pray that you can come in to this holiest of holy places, and
- 16:37you can dine and Sup with the Lord Jesus Christ. 37 And you
- 16:44shall put it on a blue lace, that it may be upon the mitre,
- 16:49and upon the forefront of the mitre it shall be.
- 16:52And there shall be upon Aaron's forehead, that Aaron may bear
- 16:56the iniquity of the holy things which the children of Israel
- 17:00shall hallow in all their holy gifts.
- 17:03And there shall be always upon his forehead, that they may be
- 17:06accepted before the Lord. 39 And you shall embroidery the coat of
- 17:11fine linen, and you shall make the mitre a fine linen.
- 17:14And you shall make the girdle of needlework.
- 17:17And for Aaron's sons you shall make coats.
- 17:19And you shall make for them girdles and bonnets.
- 17:23And you shall make for them for glory and for beauty.
- 17:26They need this glory and beauty because there's nothing good
- 17:30inside of humanity. God has to prescribe all of
- 17:34these garments so that they can exude the glory.
- 17:38And and beauty of God, because there is nothing good inside of
- 17:42us. 40 And for Aaron's sons. So you can see that Aaron's sons
- 17:49are not as elaborately decorated as the high priest friends. 41
- 17:55And you shall put them upon Aaron your brother, and his sons
- 17:58with him, and shall anoint them, and consecrate them, and
- 18:02sanctify them, that they may minister unto me in the priest's
- 18:07office. So here Moses is on the Mount of
- 18:10Sinai in the encompassing of God's glory, in the cloud on
- 18:15top. He's being supernaturally fueled
- 18:17by God. He's being fed and he's being
- 18:20hydrated by the presence of God. And here God is giving him all
- 18:24of these elaborate details, and he tells him to anoint Aaron and
- 18:29his sons. That is putting the stamp of God
- 18:33upon them and to consecrate them.
- 18:35That is getting rid of all of the sin that's inside of them,
- 18:39getting them to confess and get rid of it, and then sanctify
- 18:43them. And that is getting them to
- 18:45think and become and to act more and more and more unto the
- 18:50things in the heart and the mind of God.
- 18:54And that is what it takes to be a minister in the priests
- 18:57office. We need the anointing friends,
- 19:00we need to consecrate friends, we need to be sanctified
- 19:04friends. And 123 That is what equals the
- 19:09ministry. 42 And you shall make them linen breeches to cover
- 19:14their nakedness, and their loins even unto the thighs they shall
- 19:18reach. 43 And they shall be upon Aaron and his sons, when they
- 19:22come into the Tabernacle of the congregation, or when they come
- 19:26in unto the altar to minister in the holy place, that they bear
- 19:30not iniquity and die. And they shall be a statute
- 19:33forever unto him, and his seed after him.
- 19:36So you can see that they are to put on this linen under garment
- 19:42for decency. And God very much wants us to
- 19:48act in a reverent, decent way as we minister unto His people.
- 19:52We cannot just have anointing without consecration and
- 19:57sanctification. We cannot just have consecration
- 20:02without the anointing and the sanctification.
- 20:05We cannot just. Be sanctified without the
- 20:09anointing and the consecration. We need all three.
- 20:12Friends, I pray that God's anointing is upon you.
- 20:18I pray that you have consecrated the temple, and I pray that
- 20:21you're growing and being sanctified every single day on
- 20:26this journey. I'm so thankful you're here with
- 20:28me. I hope you've been blessed by
- 20:30this amazing chapter in God's Word.
- 20:32I know I sure have. I'm praying for every single one
- 20:35of you, and I love you. Let's say a quick prayer.
- 20:40We love you, Lord. We thank you for your word.
- 20:43We thank you for today. God consecrate us, anoint us.
- 20:46God, help us to be sanctified as we go through this life.
- 20:51Help us to minister. Help us to be your hands and
- 20:54feet. Lord, I pray that you'll help
- 20:56us, God, to have the mind of Christ, to know what to do and
- 21:00when to do it. Lord, we just want more of you.
- 21:02We want to be inside of your will.
- 21:05God we reject all the systems of the world, and God we pick up
- 21:11our cross, we bear our cross. God we count the cost.
- 21:14Lord we put our hand to the plow, and Lord, we go out into
- 21:18the harvest. Lord, help us to finish this
- 21:20race well. In Jesus Christ, holy and
- 21:23precious name, I pray men.
