- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Good next to you
- 0:07Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:10Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Still me by myself for the rest of the week.
- 0:14Speaker 2: What a big weekend we've had. Uh, thanks to our
- 0:16Speaker 2: friends at Chris Flyer. I'll tell you more later on.
- 0:19Speaker 2: But we're going to kick off a brand new week
- 0:21Speaker 2: and a great day ahead. Monday, 8th of June, Grant
- 0:24Speaker 2: Perez kicks us off first this hour. Stay tuned. Singapore's
- 0:27Speaker 2: number one hit music station.
- 0:31Speaker 2: And just yesterday after Kris Flyer Fest, I actually joined
- 0:35Speaker 2: uh some friends over at the Sentosa area and had
- 0:38Speaker 2: dinner and, you know, caught up and stuff and um
- 0:41Speaker 2: I heard all about what happened over at the Sentosa
- 0:43Speaker 2: Cove Marina. I'm just catching about it this morning. Look,
- 0:47Speaker 2: I didn't have time to read the news yesterday, right,
- 0:49Speaker 2: but surely I saw.
- 0:50Speaker 2: I mean, a mixture of um the yachts over in Monaco,
- 0:53Speaker 2: of course, Monaco Grand Prix, and the unfortunate situation in
- 0:57Speaker 2: the Sentosa Cove area, but thankfully, um, a later article
- 1:01Speaker 2: that has been released, I think maybe later last night
- 1:04Speaker 2: has uh has revealed that everyone is safe and the
- 1:07Speaker 2: crew is safe as well since the fire broke out
- 1:09Speaker 2: on a luxury super yacht, and I think a lot
- 1:12Speaker 2: of details still not disclosed. They're still doing investigations, but
- 1:15Speaker 2: a couple of friends who actually live in that area
- 1:18Speaker 2: saw and sent videos.
- 1:20Speaker 2: To us. It was pretty scary, man, like the smoke was,
- 1:23Speaker 2: it was thick black suits and apparently it was going
- 1:25Speaker 2: on for 2 or 3 hours. So I'm very relieved
- 1:28Speaker 2: to see that in the updated article, everyone's fine, um,
- 1:33Speaker 2: no casualties or anything at all. So that's, I think
- 1:35Speaker 2: that's the most important, but, um, you know, it's not
- 1:38Speaker 2: something you would expect to see, especially not here in Singapore, right? Um,
- 1:42Speaker 2: it is a beautiful place and I can't imagine the
- 1:45Speaker 2: damage that it has done to, to a yacht like that. So.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Just glad everyone got away unscathed.
- 1:53Speaker 2: The Seraphim is about to continue and uh whatever it
- 1:55Speaker 2: is that you're up to this morning, if you're already
- 1:57Speaker 2: up nice and early and you're heading to the gym,
- 1:59Speaker 2: you're heading to work early, I got you covered with
- 2:01Speaker 2: some great music to keep your energy levels. Jen, I'm
- 2:04Speaker 2: so excited for the weekend here in Singapore. I mean,
- 2:07Speaker 2: the weekend that just ended, yes, that was great, but
- 2:09Speaker 2: the weekend in Singapore, I've never caught Weekend Live in
- 2:12Speaker 2: concert before and I'm unsure whether this is gonna be
- 2:16Speaker 2: like the last time he will make such a big
- 2:18Speaker 2: tour in Asia, in our region, you know.
- 2:21Speaker 2: So I'm really, really excited for that. Um, got myself
- 2:23Speaker 2: a pair of tickets already. So I texted Germs, my partner, husband,
- 2:29Speaker 2: very weird to say that. And I was like, hey,
- 2:31Speaker 2: I got us tickets for the weekend. And he was like,
- 2:33Speaker 2: oh my God, that's so cool.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Uh, yeah, so that's one of the concerts I'm very, very,
- 2:37Speaker 2: very excited for this year. Aside from BTS, of course,
- 2:41Speaker 2: which everyone has struggled to get tickets for, so we'll
- 2:43Speaker 2: see whether there's gonna be a second wave or I
- 2:46Speaker 2: don't know what else that's gonna happen, you know, closer
- 2:49Speaker 2: to the date. It's still, still early days. Don't give
- 2:51Speaker 2: up hope just yet in case you didn't manage to
- 2:53Speaker 2: get your tickets. Uh, coming up in just a bit, um,
- 2:55Speaker 2: aside from concerts, something that our friends across the causeway.
- 3:00Speaker 2: will be very, very, very proud of, um, and it's
- 3:04Speaker 2: food related. I'll tell you more in just a bit,
- 3:06Speaker 2: but this might just get you craving for this particular
- 3:09Speaker 2: dish for breakfast. Speaking of game time, this is probably
- 3:13Speaker 2: one of the most intense competitions when it comes down
- 3:16Speaker 2: to the culinary world, OK? I want to give a
- 3:19Speaker 2: big shout out to our friends from across the Causeway
- 3:21Speaker 2: because in a recent MasterChef episode, there was a MasterChef
- 3:25Speaker 2: challenge and this Malaysian contestant, she's only 27.
- 3:29Speaker 2: She won that challenge with a dish prepared in just
- 3:33Speaker 2: one hour and you will never be able to fathom
- 3:36Speaker 2: how she did it in one hour, OK? Because we
- 3:38Speaker 2: live in Southeast Asia, we know that certain dishes, right, um,
- 3:42Speaker 2: even for our hawkers and all that, it is impossible
- 3:45Speaker 2: to just prep in under an hour. They take hours
- 3:48Speaker 2: from the ingredients, you know, to, to chopping it up
- 3:50Speaker 2: to sometimes you even need to boil a broth for
- 3:53Speaker 2: hours and hours to get a stock.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Their challenge was in 1 hour and she made a
- 3:59Speaker 2: roti Channai dish, OK, with curry. How did she make
- 4:03Speaker 2: it in under 1 hour? That's crazy. Um, this is
- 4:06Speaker 2: a World Cup cook-off challenge and it was inspired by
- 4:10Speaker 2: her family and her culture, of course. I think, um,
- 4:12Speaker 2: it is, the base is like a Malaysian coconut curry, right?
- 4:15Speaker 2: There's also coconut rice, um, cucumber and pineapple salad.
- 4:19Speaker 2: And uh Roti Chennai, of course. So they were saying
- 4:22Speaker 2: that this was voted like the best World Cup watch
- 4:25Speaker 2: party food, and I agree. I mean, look, this is
- 4:27Speaker 2: the kind of stuff I would love to have. I,
- 4:29Speaker 2: I'm Asian through and through and
- 4:31Speaker 2: Very Singaporean as well in terms of my, my palette
- 4:34Speaker 2: and my taste, right? So I would love to have
- 4:36Speaker 2: this readily available, but unfortunately, after looking at all the
- 4:39Speaker 2: pictures and the clips and the videos, it is not
- 4:42Speaker 2: something I'm able to order now at 6:49 a.m. in
- 4:45Speaker 2: the morning. In fact, sometimes Joakim and I have, um,
- 4:49Speaker 2: cravings for like prata, you know, things like that. Yeah,
- 4:52Speaker 2: it could, could be available, but
- 4:54Speaker 2: Um, pretty difficult with our location. I don't think we
- 4:56Speaker 2: found one that's like worthy of paying for, paying that
- 5:01Speaker 2: much in the morning for just the two of us. So,
- 5:04Speaker 2: sometimes we'll try and tag team with like muttons, for example,
- 5:07Speaker 2: we'll text them, you know, hey guys, do you want anything?
- 5:10Speaker 2: Can we, can we bundle it up together so we
- 5:12Speaker 2: get more orders? But yeah.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Yeah, so I'm really, really happy. So this is such
- 5:17Speaker 2: a big achievement for especially us in Southeast Asia to
- 5:21Speaker 2: see some of our dishes being represented out there. I mean, that's,
- 5:24Speaker 2: that's pretty cool, man. So big shout out to Jamie
- 5:27Speaker 2: Tan representing Malaysia and the Team Asia Pacific. So that
- 5:31Speaker 2: kind of includes us in a way, right?
- 5:34Speaker 2: Tim McCray about to play first, the perfect song to
- 5:37Speaker 2: play right after the Monaco GP. I can't believe I
- 5:39Speaker 2: was just there like a week ago before the actual
- 5:42Speaker 2: Grand Prix. It was already looking very exciting. Welcome to
- 5:45Speaker 2: the 8th of June, Monday. Still solo and yours for
- 5:48Speaker 2: the rest of the week. And when I came across
- 5:50Speaker 2: this particular, um, story, it really, really made me smile
- 5:54Speaker 2: because at 73 years old, I don't know, I can't
- 5:57Speaker 2: imagine myself there yet. My parents are close in terms
- 6:00Speaker 2: of age.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Um, but they are very busy with the dog that
- 6:04Speaker 2: we have. We adopted one called Maxi, as you know,
- 6:07Speaker 2: a couple of years back, and she's become an absolute
- 6:09Speaker 2: queen and princess of the household. But this particular man
- 6:14Speaker 2: by the name of Uncle Ong, as people fondly call
- 6:16Speaker 2: him now, he's about 73 now, and he took it
- 6:20Speaker 2: upon himself to feed over 30 cats, 30, 30 cats
- 6:26Speaker 2: daily in both Kallang and the Hougang area.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Despite having a neck brace, he has bad knees, he's
- 6:33Speaker 2: got a bad back, but he's been spotted by a
- 6:37Speaker 2: lot of residents around the area just um doing this
- 6:40Speaker 2: every day, you know, day in, day out.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Um, he, he's decided, you know what, like he's, she
- 6:45Speaker 2: just wants to do this because it's his passion. As
- 6:47Speaker 2: a result, because a lot of um members of the
- 6:49Speaker 2: public have noticed him doing this, right? They've been helping
- 6:52Speaker 2: Uncle Ong buy cat food over the past couple of
- 6:54Speaker 2: years to shoulder his financial burden. Now, buying cat food
- 6:58Speaker 2: and pet food, or if you're a pet owner at all,
- 7:00Speaker 2: you would know that it's not cheap to, to take
- 7:03Speaker 2: care of a pet. And these cats, they're quite independent already, right? I,
- 7:06Speaker 2: I believe cats, they can
- 7:08Speaker 2: Do their own thing throughout the day. Like you just
- 7:10Speaker 2: leave them at home. They, they probably film a whole
- 7:13Speaker 2: reality series and then you come back and they're just,
- 7:15Speaker 2: they're just there to greet you or maybe they don't
- 7:17Speaker 2: even greet you. I don't know. I mean, that's what
- 7:20Speaker 2: I like about dogs because they always seem to need
- 7:23Speaker 2: you around, right? So yeah, cats are super independent, but
- 7:26Speaker 2: they still need to be fed. Um, and here's the backstory.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Uncle Ong used to spend
- 7:32Speaker 2: More than $1000 of his monthly salary just on feeding
- 7:36Speaker 2: cats before the public came in to step in and
- 7:39Speaker 2: help him, right? And although his physical condition has deteriorated,
- 7:43Speaker 2: I mean, he's just aging and he has to now
- 7:45Speaker 2: wear a neck brace. He still keeps up his nightly
- 7:47Speaker 2: cat feeding in these areas and it's just so sweet.
- 7:50Speaker 2: You know, I think at the end of the day, um,
- 7:52Speaker 2: he's come up to say that he's very grateful for
- 7:54Speaker 2: the public support, but he also said, beware of scammers.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Because, you know, sometimes people may pretend like they're doing
- 8:04Speaker 2: something good to get money from the public, right? And
- 8:07Speaker 2: they're not actually doing something good. So he's just warning
- 8:09Speaker 2: people out there, beware of scammers, don't, you know, I
- 8:12Speaker 2: hope people are not using his name to, to get
- 8:15Speaker 2: donations or whatever, but if you want to help, I
- 8:18Speaker 2: believe you can contact SNS Pet Shop.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Um, they've got an email address, so just go look
- 8:23Speaker 2: it up, but this story just really made me smile
- 8:26Speaker 2: this morning. He has found his purpose, and that keeps
- 8:29Speaker 2: him going every day a little reminder, the next time
- 8:32Speaker 2: you're traveling, you got to be extremely careful, OK? Um,
- 8:35Speaker 2: this reminded me of all the times where I did
- 8:38Speaker 2: a couple of things that may have put myself in
- 8:41Speaker 2: a slightly more dangerous position when, you know, I was
- 8:44Speaker 2: filming overseas and things like that, you know, adventure and
- 8:47Speaker 2: all that, right?
- 8:48Speaker 2: But sometimes you just want to experience life. However, there's
- 8:51Speaker 2: a difference between experiencing travels and life safely and um
- 8:56Speaker 2: not being too careful. So, this Singaporean woman, she was
- 8:59Speaker 2: over at a waterfall in the Selangor area and she
- 9:03Speaker 2: accidentally slipped and fell, and this is alleged, OK? We
- 9:07Speaker 2: still don't really know what happened there, but allegedly she
- 9:08Speaker 2: slipped and fell at a waterfall.
- 9:11Speaker 2: This is at an eco Forest Park and thankfully, she
- 9:15Speaker 2: was very lucky. She was found in time. She had
- 9:18Speaker 2: to be carried down on a stretcher by the local firefighters.
- 9:22Speaker 2: This literally just happened on Saturday, by the way.
- 9:24Speaker 2: So the, the rescue team was immediately dispatched. Um, they
- 9:27Speaker 2: hauled this stretcher up, you know, to help evacuate her,
- 9:31Speaker 2: and she was immediately handed over to medical staff that
- 9:34Speaker 2: arrived at the scene to examine her, but the authorities
- 9:36Speaker 2: and the, the experts also reminded the public, please prioritize
- 9:41Speaker 2: safety when you're going for your recreational activities, you're hiking,
- 9:45Speaker 2: you know, at waterfalls, rivers, if there are any on-site
- 9:48Speaker 2: warning signs, please heed them. They're not there for fun.
- 9:52Speaker 2: They're definitely there for a reason.
- 9:54Speaker 2: And one more really important point, they encourage visitors to
- 9:58Speaker 2: wear proper shoes. Um, I, I remember this ages ago, uh, we,
- 10:04Speaker 2: we were filming a travel show, right? And
- 10:07Speaker 2: It's the kind of thing where we just really go
- 10:09Speaker 2: with the flow, but I think one of the, the
- 10:11Speaker 2: guys in the camera crew, he did not wear like,
- 10:13Speaker 2: he did not bring proper sports shoes. So he was
- 10:16Speaker 2: wearing like slip-ons for hiking, you know, like, and we
- 10:19Speaker 2: hiked up like Mount Bator, that kind of vibe, and
- 10:22Speaker 2: I'm so glad that everyone was safe because he, I
- 10:25Speaker 2: think slipped a couple of times because of like the
- 10:27Speaker 2: lack of grip on his shoes, but we, we really
- 10:31Speaker 2: did not know better. I mean, I did not have
- 10:33Speaker 2: proper hiking shoes.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Shoes either. I was wearing like normal running shoes, which
- 10:36Speaker 2: is still better than slip-on shoes, but still not great, right?
- 10:40Speaker 2: It's still not proper hiking shoes. So, um, if you
- 10:42Speaker 2: are going for any adventures anytime soon, please be careful.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Um do not participate in dangerous activities during bad weather,
- 10:49Speaker 2: especially as we know it's, it's been, you know, it
- 10:51Speaker 2: can be quite unpredictable sometimes, so please follow the advice
- 10:54Speaker 2: of your local guide. Don't go on your own. I
- 10:58Speaker 2: think that's the most important part. Don't go off on
- 10:59Speaker 2: your own, right?
- 11:01Speaker 2: Um, this one was, uh, uh, uh, I think it
- 11:04Speaker 2: was over at, I want to say, I want to
- 11:07Speaker 2: say Thailand, but yet I feel like it was Malaysia,
- 11:09Speaker 2: but anyway, once again, it was filming and the guide said, OK,
- 11:14Speaker 2: there's this particular place where you can actually free jump,
- 11:18Speaker 2: and it's about 10 m. OK, so it's only if
- 11:20Speaker 2: you want to do it. There's, there's no one forcing you,
- 11:23Speaker 2: only if you want to do it. So, you know,
- 11:25Speaker 2: me being me, I was like, yes, I want to
- 11:28Speaker 2: do it.
- 11:29Speaker 2: So I went ahead, I did it, and they did
- 11:31Speaker 2: say you got to keep yourself very straight, like when you,
- 11:34Speaker 2: when you jump in, your, your body has to be
- 11:38Speaker 2: very upright and straight so that your feet pierce the
- 11:41Speaker 2: water and you just jump in straight, you know, if not,
- 11:43Speaker 2: you might get injured. Unfortunately, for one of our other
- 11:46Speaker 2: crew members, he, I think, panicked or what, like when
- 11:49Speaker 2: he jumped off, I think he panicked and he landed
- 11:51Speaker 2: on his back instead of piercing through the water straight
- 11:55Speaker 2: with your, with your legs and your feet.
- 11:57Speaker 2: So I think he had a bit of a back
- 11:59Speaker 2: injury after that. Oh no.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Yeah. Now, coming up right after 8:00 a.m., um, this
- 12:06Speaker 2: is quite unfortunate, but it's been inspired by my own,
- 12:09Speaker 2: one of my besties, OK? If you followed my wedding
- 12:12Speaker 2: YouTube series, you would have seen and been introduced to
- 12:14Speaker 2: a lot of my very close friends. I mean, none
- 12:17Speaker 2: of them are in the industry. They are, well, some
- 12:20Speaker 2: of them work in the media industry, but they're not
- 12:22Speaker 2: like artists or influencers or anything like they're all out of, of,
- 12:25Speaker 2: of the limelight, right? And
- 12:27Speaker 2: Uh, we've been very tight friends since school days. So,
- 12:30Speaker 2: very unfortunately, one of my friends who celebrated her birthday
- 12:34Speaker 2: just a few days ago, um, we went for, we
- 12:38Speaker 2: went for a celebration, like sometime last week, OK, uh,
- 12:42Speaker 2: ahead of her birthday. On her birthday itself, she unfortunately
- 12:46Speaker 2: fell really, really ill, like with, I don't know, a
- 12:50Speaker 2: stomach bug or something was wrong with her, her tummy.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Um, and she had to be hospitalized. So that was quite,
- 12:58Speaker 2: it was, we were horrified because we were like on
- 13:00Speaker 2: her birthday, she got hospitalized. In fact, it was, I
- 13:03Speaker 2: think the, the morning of her birthday, she got hospitalized,
- 13:07Speaker 2: and she's been there ever since. It's been a few days.
- 13:11Speaker 2: So we feel really so bad for her, you know,
- 13:13Speaker 2: because um it was, we were celebrating a lot of
- 13:16Speaker 2: milestones for her. She just announced something to the group and,
- 13:19Speaker 2: you know, it's a happy time. It's a happy time.
- 13:21Speaker 2: So I felt really, really bad for her. She's still
- 13:23Speaker 2: there now and she's texting me this early in the morning.
- 13:26Speaker 2: The only reason why she's up this early in the
- 13:28Speaker 2: morning is because she's still in the hospital.
- 13:31Speaker 2: And I think like they do rounds or like there's
- 13:33Speaker 2: a breakfast thing or something and yeah, that's why she's
- 13:36Speaker 2: texting me this early in the morning, which has inspired
- 13:39Speaker 2: today's topic that I'll open up phone lines for later on.
- 13:42Speaker 2: I don't think she can tune in right now, so
- 13:44Speaker 2: she has no idea that I'm using this as a topic,
- 13:46Speaker 2: but I'll let her know. Um, she is a very
- 13:48Speaker 2: close friend of mine, so I think it should be fine.
- 13:51Speaker 2: But I think when it comes down to celebrating birthdays,
- 13:55Speaker 2: maybe even anniversaries or or big moments, sometimes things may
- 14:00Speaker 2: not go the way that you expected it to be
- 14:03Speaker 2: and um it might mess up in one way or another.
- 14:07Speaker 2: How do you deal with it and how do you
- 14:08Speaker 2: take it in your stride is another question. So I
- 14:11Speaker 2: would love to delve into that in just a bit. Every,
- 14:14Speaker 2: every time it's a Monday, right? I will get standard.
- 14:16Speaker 2: I'll get texts from the usual people, um, my closest friends,
- 14:21Speaker 2: of course, and at least one or two will say, uh,
- 14:23Speaker 2: I can't believe it's Monday already.
- 14:25Speaker 2: I feel you. That's the reason why I'm here, to
- 14:27Speaker 2: give you energy in the morning because um nobody gives
- 14:30Speaker 2: me energy in the morning, so I have to self-hype,
- 14:32Speaker 2: you know, before I get to work and as a result,
- 14:35Speaker 2: when I get on air at 6, I'm already energized.
- 14:37Speaker 2: So that's, that's my job and I'm here for you. So,
- 14:41Speaker 2: we're gonna open up phone lines, 669-11987 or you can
- 14:44Speaker 2: even drop me a text uh 90050987. This just happened
- 14:49Speaker 2: to my, one of my closest friends a few days back, OK?
- 14:53Speaker 2: In case you missed it earlier, I gave you a
- 14:55Speaker 2: very quick um TLDR earlier. This was just a few
- 14:59Speaker 2: days ago when we celebrated her birthday, and it was
- 15:02Speaker 2: a hit, a hit of her actual birthday. So we
- 15:04Speaker 2: did dinner, we went karake, you know, we, it was
- 15:07Speaker 2: super fun. Like everyone had fun, and I came to
- 15:09Speaker 2: work the next morning feeling very tired, but it was
- 15:12Speaker 2: worth it. And she was quite quiet for, for the
- 15:15Speaker 2: rest of the, the morning, like on her actual birthday, like,
- 15:19Speaker 2: you know, naturally we texted, wished her again.
- 15:21Speaker 2: And everything, but she was really quiet. Then sometime in
- 15:24Speaker 2: the afternoon, uh, or late morning rather, she goes, hey guys,
- 15:28Speaker 2: like I'm not feeling so well, like I'm really not
- 15:31Speaker 2: doing so well. Like she doesn't know whether it's food poisoning,
- 15:34Speaker 2: is it related to, I don't know what we ate
- 15:36Speaker 2: or something, but everyone else was fine. So then, um,
- 15:40Speaker 2: all of a sudden things started to escalate and uh
- 15:43Speaker 2: got a text from her sister saying that she's going
- 15:46Speaker 2: to the A&E.
- 15:47Speaker 2: And she's likely going to get hospitalized and we're like, what?
- 15:50Speaker 2: We were all freaking out, right? And we're so worried because, I,
- 15:54Speaker 2: I mean, nobody wants to catch food poisoning, but look,
- 15:57Speaker 2: I was going to go to town with a restaurant
- 16:00Speaker 2: if something really that bad happened to my friend or
- 16:02Speaker 2: any one of us, right? So I was ready, I
- 16:04Speaker 2: was on standby. It's like, guys, we, this is serious.
- 16:08Speaker 2: But it turns out it wasn't food poisoning. I think
- 16:11Speaker 2: she's had a very bad, um, gastric-related situation.
- 16:16Speaker 2: And I think, you know, the late night and like
- 16:19Speaker 2: our drinks and stuff might have aggravated it. So she, yeah,
- 16:23Speaker 2: I think it might have just brought out something that
- 16:25Speaker 2: she didn't know was such a big issue, health wise.
- 16:29Speaker 2: So she's still there. I think hopefully she'll get discharged today,
- 16:32Speaker 2: but we were just saying like, what a way to,
- 16:36Speaker 2: to celebrate your birthday. I mean, we had so much
- 16:39Speaker 2: fun that on your actual birthday, you went to the
- 16:40Speaker 2: hospital like, man.
- 16:42Speaker 2: This could have happened to any one of us. Like,
- 16:44Speaker 2: I just really feel so bad for her, and it
- 16:46Speaker 2: is a wake-up call though and a bit of a
- 16:48Speaker 2: reminder for us to really take care of ourselves and
- 16:50Speaker 2: don't ignore the warning signs, right? Um, something as simple
- 16:53Speaker 2: as not really eating well day to day may cause
- 16:57Speaker 2: like really bad gastric issues, and I know my, my
- 17:00Speaker 2: mom always nagged at me about this last time, but
- 17:02Speaker 2: we only learned the hard way, like, you know, like this,
- 17:04Speaker 2: this is us. This is how we learn. So, 669-11987
- 17:08Speaker 2: or drop me a text 90050987.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Has an unfortunate incident or just something bad happened on
- 17:17Speaker 2: your birthday or your friend's birthday before? Not necessarily even
- 17:20Speaker 2: something bad, but something unexpected or unfortunate. Let us know
- 17:25Speaker 2: and uh also tell me how you dealt with it
- 17:27Speaker 2: and how you came out of it, right?
- 17:30Speaker 2: 669-11987. I would love to give you a beautiful dining experience.
- 17:34Speaker 2: This is at Wild Sea Cafe at One Flower Hill.
- 17:36Speaker 2: It is worth $100 situated over in beautiful Sentosa. Love
- 17:41Speaker 2: it so much, Lady Gaga. You have no idea how
- 17:44Speaker 2: loudly I was belting this out in the studio when
- 17:47Speaker 2: my mic was off.
- 17:48Speaker 2: I think actually, I'm not sure how soundproof our walls are,
- 17:53Speaker 2: to be honest, because sometimes I can hear a little
- 17:56Speaker 2: bit of the other DJs from the station opposite us, um,
- 18:00Speaker 2: you know, if they're getting very excited or something, something happened.
- 18:03Speaker 2: So I'm pretty sure they can hear me singing very badly. Anyway,
- 18:06Speaker 2: the topic here today inspired by one of my besties
- 18:09Speaker 2: that just happened a few days ago. We're celebrating her birthday.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Everything was great, super fun.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Um, we were just talking about it in the chat,
- 18:16Speaker 2: then the very next day on her actual birthday, she
- 18:19Speaker 2: fell super ill, um, didn't know what was wrong, got hospitalized, A&E, everything.
- 18:25Speaker 2: They identified that it wasn't food poisoning and, you know,
- 18:28Speaker 2: the rest of us were fine. Turns out she had
- 18:30Speaker 2: a very, very bad gastric issue that I think has
- 18:33Speaker 2: been bubbling under the surface for many years and somehow,
- 18:37Speaker 2: you know, uh, the fact that we went for drinks
- 18:39Speaker 2: and maybe we stayed up a bit late, it triggered it. So,
- 18:42Speaker 2: she's still there.
- 18:44Speaker 2: The whole weekend she's been there, it feels so bad
- 18:47Speaker 2: and uh she's hopefully, fingers crossed, officially getting discharged today,
- 18:51Speaker 2: but what a way to celebrate her actual birthday, right?
- 18:54Speaker 2: We felt so bad. So my question to you today
- 18:56Speaker 2: was actually,
- 18:57Speaker 2: Has there been anything unexpected or unfortunate that happened on
- 19:02Speaker 2: someone's birthday before? It could be a loved one, it
- 19:04Speaker 2: could be your own birthday. I mean, we can't control
- 19:06Speaker 2: these things, right? Uh, I'll tell you mine later on,
- 19:09Speaker 2: but first, I got a message here from Angela. Hey, Sonia,
- 19:12Speaker 2: it just happened two weekends ago actually. It was my
- 19:15Speaker 2: birthday on Sunday, and my husband and I were prepping
- 19:18Speaker 2: for my birthday dinner.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Um, we're hosting our relatives when I got informed by
- 19:22Speaker 2: my mother-in-law that my daughter puked 3 times. So we
- 19:25Speaker 2: had to stop all prep and went over to my
- 19:28Speaker 2: mom-in-law's place to pick her and send her to the doctor. TLDR,
- 19:31Speaker 2: my daughter puked 7 times throughout the entire day, and
- 19:35Speaker 2: some of the puke landed on me. My birthday wish
- 19:38Speaker 2: was literally used for her to hope that she recovered fast,
- 19:43Speaker 2: and I trust that she did, right, because this was
- 19:44Speaker 2: 2 weeks ago, so.
- 19:46Speaker 2: I hope she's back to normal and eating and, you know,
- 19:48Speaker 2: having fun again. Thank you so much for sharing, Angela. Um,
- 19:51Speaker 2: I really hope that you managed to have a belated birthday.
- 19:54Speaker 2: I mean, in moments like that, you don't even think
- 19:57Speaker 2: about your birthday anymore, right? You just deal with the
- 19:59Speaker 2: situation at hand or you deal with the problem. So, um,
- 20:02Speaker 2: I feel you and I hope that you, uh, your
- 20:04Speaker 2: husband maybe took you out for a nice birthday date
- 20:07Speaker 2: or something. That could be quite cute, right? Now, when
- 20:09Speaker 2: we come back, more of your messages, quite lengthy ones
- 20:12Speaker 2: coming through as well, so I gotta vet through them
- 20:13Speaker 2: first and read through them and
- 20:15Speaker 2: Um, some callers hanging on the line. Still time for
- 20:18Speaker 2: you to call me 669-11987 or drop me a message.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Let me know, was there ever a situation where something
- 20:25Speaker 2: unexpected or almost unfortunate happened on your birthday or a
- 20:29Speaker 2: loved one's birthday, or maybe even a special occasion? It
- 20:32Speaker 2: could be anniversary, it could be something, something, Christmas, New
- 20:36Speaker 2: Year's Eve. Talking about unexpected or unfortunate things that may
- 20:40Speaker 2: sometimes ruin a special day, you know, it could be
- 20:42Speaker 2: a birthday, anniversary.
- 20:43Speaker 2: New Year's Eve countdown or something and uh speaking of
- 20:46Speaker 2: New Year's Eve countdown, this one just happened like it
- 20:49Speaker 2: uh the the recent New Year's Eve countdown of 2025, 2026, right?
- 20:55Speaker 2: So my friends and I were in Bali, and back then, uh, we,
- 21:00Speaker 2: we booked a couple of like restaurants, you know, we
- 21:03Speaker 2: planned the party that we wanted to throw in our
- 21:04Speaker 2: villa that very night. I'm not sure if I actually
- 21:07Speaker 2: said or told this story on air. I might have
- 21:09Speaker 2: told it to Joakim and then I don't know if
- 21:11Speaker 2: I said it on air.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Um, but since, you know, we're on the topic of
- 21:14Speaker 2: things that ruin special occasions, um, Jeremy, my husband, which
- 21:18Speaker 2: is very weird to say right now, I'm still getting
- 21:20Speaker 2: used to it, he got like super bad case of
- 21:22Speaker 2: Bali belly on New Year's Eve itself, and um, it
- 21:26Speaker 2: was so bad to the point where now if you
- 21:29Speaker 2: need to stand by this number, OK, I'll, I'll, I'll
- 21:31Speaker 2: send it to you if you need. But recently, there's
- 21:34Speaker 2: been a lot of clinics that have popped up in
- 21:35Speaker 2: Bali to deal with this Bali Belli situation because I
- 21:38Speaker 2: think
- 21:39Speaker 2: The hospitals are overwhelmed and if it can be solved with,
- 21:42Speaker 2: you know, a drip or medication that a doctor, a
- 21:46Speaker 2: mobile doctor can come and administer for you, then that
- 21:49Speaker 2: will solve the problem greatly, right? You don't have to
- 21:51Speaker 2: worry about getting stuck in a jam on the way to,
- 21:54Speaker 2: to the hospital and all that.
- 21:55Speaker 2: So I called, I tried, I tried like 3 different numbers.
- 21:58Speaker 2: 2 of them, one of them didn't get back. Um,
- 22:01Speaker 2: the other one said, sorry, they are dispatched all their
- 22:03Speaker 2: doctors already, they don't have any more because New Year's Eve,
- 22:06Speaker 2: you know, too many people getting sick, I guess. Finally,
- 22:09Speaker 2: the third one replied. So they came down in about 40,
- 22:13Speaker 2: 45 minutes, which is already very fast by Bali standards,
- 22:17Speaker 2: and managed to solve the problem. So I was so relieved,
- 22:20Speaker 2: but
- 22:20Speaker 2: Yeah, as you could tell, New Year's Eve, not what
- 22:23Speaker 2: I thought I would be experiencing. Hopefully, this year's one
- 22:26Speaker 2: will be better, counting down into 2027. Anyway, back to
- 22:30Speaker 2: your messages first before phone lines. Um, saying hi here
- 22:35Speaker 2: to Brian. You said, morning. A few years ago, I
- 22:38Speaker 2: actually got tested COVID positive a few days before my birthday.
- 22:42Speaker 2: So I was quarantined in my room on my birthday itself.
- 22:45Speaker 2: I briefly popped out after dinner to the living room.
- 22:49Speaker 2: To sing song, cut cake with the family. Since we
- 22:52Speaker 2: were all masked up, I couldn't even blow out the candle,
- 22:54Speaker 2: so I fanned it with my hand. Then I had
- 22:57Speaker 2: to quickly cut my slice of cake to bring back
- 22:59Speaker 2: into my bedroom and continued my isolation. At least my
- 23:02Speaker 2: recovery was smooth, so I didn't feel totally miserable during
- 23:05Speaker 2: the whole isolation. Uh, I feel you. I mean, look,
- 23:08Speaker 2: if you said it was a few years ago, maybe
- 23:10Speaker 2: it was at the time where it was still quite,
- 23:13Speaker 2: quite bad, and, you know, you don't want to spread
- 23:14Speaker 2: it to your elderly, your parents or your, your older
- 23:17Speaker 2: folks in the house, right?
- 23:19Speaker 2: Ah, completely get it. OK. So, one more message here
- 23:23Speaker 2: from John. You said, morning. Um, we were celebrating my
- 23:27Speaker 2: partner's birthday at a posh celebrity restaurant while overseas when
- 23:32Speaker 2: my partner bit on a broken piece of wire buried
- 23:36Speaker 2: inside the toasted bread. Oh my goodness, what?
- 23:39Speaker 2: Um, this almost dampened the whole entire celebration, and they
- 23:42Speaker 2: didn't even bother to apologize for it. They only gave 20%
- 23:46Speaker 2: discount for the meal after the complaints. What a horrible
- 23:49Speaker 2: dining experience. And uh eventually we went home and finished
- 23:52Speaker 2: a big tub of ice cream for a sweet ending
- 23:54Speaker 2: to the day. Oh, no, that's horrible. Uh, but you
- 23:58Speaker 2: know what, at least, at least you still had a
- 24:02Speaker 2: sweet ending, right? And what, what's most important is both
- 24:05Speaker 2: of you are fine.
- 24:06Speaker 2: OK, we got Jen on the line. Jen was in
- 24:08Speaker 2: the midst of telling me about your young daughter. What happened?
- 24:10Speaker 2: When she's 5, we are going to celebrate her birthday, right, but, um, unfortunately,
- 24:15Speaker 2: she had some, her cheeks suddenly expanded. It's like swollen
- 24:19Speaker 2: is growing inside, swollen, yeah, swell, very, very.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Badly, so no have to brought her to bring her
- 24:26Speaker 2: to the A&E Mount Avenue, and she has this kind of,
- 24:30Speaker 2: I think, I don't know what it is that like,
- 24:33Speaker 2: like just something that she has to draw it up.
- 24:35Speaker 2: It's like some fluid, yes, yes, so we celebrated her
- 24:39Speaker 2: birthday there the next day.
- 24:41Speaker 2: And decorate the whole room. Oh, you're so cute. I mean, look,
- 24:45Speaker 2: you adapt, right? You adapt, but thankfully it was, it
- 24:48Speaker 2: was nothing life-threatening or serious, right? Yeah, no, but being
- 24:52Speaker 2: a parent will be very worried. I'm sure I'm sure,
- 24:56Speaker 2: under the knife, you know.
- 24:57Speaker 2: I know, I know. I mean, look, I'm, I'm not
- 24:59Speaker 2: a parent, but I can't imagine the, the bride here,
- 25:02Speaker 2: physical right here on 987. Her entire wedding is just insane,
- 25:06Speaker 2: you know, so beautiful. Very happy for her, surrounded by
- 25:10Speaker 2: uh genuine close friends and family. That's, that's the best
- 25:13Speaker 2: way to go. Anyway, back to the topic here today.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Has something unexpected or unfortunate ever ruined a special occasion?
- 25:20Speaker 2: Hopefully not a wedding, but you know, maybe a birthday
- 25:23Speaker 2: or it could be New Year's Eve countdown like what
- 25:25Speaker 2: I shared earlier or just a special occasion, right? Um,
- 25:28Speaker 2: so many messages coming through, like I said, actually pretty, um,
- 25:32Speaker 2: pretty lengthy ones too.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Say hi over here to R. You said, hey, Sonia,
- 25:38Speaker 2: today is my birthday. Hey, happy birthday to you. Happy
- 25:41Speaker 2: birthday to you, and everything has been going well so far, thankfully,
- 25:45Speaker 2: though I can't guarantee what will happen once work starts,
- 25:47Speaker 2: ha ha. One birthday I will never forget was a
- 25:50Speaker 2: couple of years ago. On the 7th of June itself.
- 25:55Speaker 2: Um, my, my son suddenly developed a very high fever
- 25:57Speaker 2: and a severe cough. His breathing became so labored that
- 26:01Speaker 2: he was breathless and his whole body was shivering while
- 26:04Speaker 2: he was crying and trying to sleep. We were so
- 26:06Speaker 2: worried and had no choice but to rush him to
- 26:08Speaker 2: the A&E where he was subsequently admitted.
- 26:11Speaker 2: After the doctors ran tests, we found out that he
- 26:13Speaker 2: had RSV, respiratory syncyal virus. I don't know if I'm
- 26:18Speaker 2: saying that right, a respiratory infection that affected his lungs
- 26:21Speaker 2: and airways. It is quite serious, but thankfully, we made
- 26:24Speaker 2: the decision to bring him in early and get him treated.
- 26:27Speaker 2: The next day, which is my actual birthday, 8th of June,
- 26:30Speaker 2: he was already feeling much better after receiving treatments and IV.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Since I was staying in the hospital with him, we
- 26:36Speaker 2: had a small cake that came with a hospital meal.
- 26:39Speaker 2: It was a very simple celebration, but seeing him recover
- 26:43Speaker 2: was the best birthday gift I could have ever asked for. Thankfully,
- 26:47Speaker 2: everything turned out well in the end. Oh, I'm so
- 26:50Speaker 2: happy that this was, this, you know what, was a
- 26:52Speaker 2: good memory at the end of the day. I mean,
- 26:53Speaker 2: you never want to revisit that, but you are grateful for,
- 26:57Speaker 2: for his recovery and for the small things in life, right?
- 27:01Speaker 2: Sometimes it makes you smile, just small celebrations that makes
- 27:04Speaker 2: you smile. Happy birthday though. I really hope you have
- 27:06Speaker 2: a good one.
- 27:07Speaker 2: And why are you working today? That's the question. Don't
- 27:10Speaker 2: you have birthday leave or some sort of, I don't know,
- 27:13Speaker 2: leave to take?
- 27:14Speaker 2: Why are you working today?
- 27:16Speaker 2: Have a good one regardless. OK, more messages coming through
- 27:19Speaker 2: in a while. I didn't realize this would really strike
- 27:22Speaker 2: a chord. So many unexpected things happening on special occasions.
- 27:27Speaker 2: The conversation continues in just a bit. Uh, just a
- 27:30Speaker 2: quick recap here. Based on real-life experiences, my poor bestie,
- 27:34Speaker 2: one of my best friends, she unfortunately got hospitalized on
- 27:38Speaker 2: her birthday itself from a bad gastric issue, and we
- 27:41Speaker 2: were just celebrating her birthday with her like, you know,
- 27:43Speaker 2: 12 hours before that.
- 27:45Speaker 2: And uh she had to be admitted into A&E. So,
- 27:48Speaker 2: saying hi to some of our listeners that are just
- 27:51Speaker 2: texting in right now. Honestly, so many very lengthy ones.
- 27:54Speaker 2: I asked you, was there anything unexpected or unfortunate that
- 27:58Speaker 2: happened on a special occasion before? And I'm saying hi
- 28:02Speaker 2: over here to Jolen. You said, hey, Sonia. Last November
- 28:06Speaker 2: was my husband's birthday month. I was already 8 months pregnant,
- 28:09Speaker 2: by the way, just weeks away from my due date.
- 28:12Speaker 2: We decided to celebrate with a buffet dinner.
- 28:15Speaker 2: Not long after we started eating, I suddenly felt intense
- 28:18Speaker 2: pains and cramps. Before we knew it, the hotel staff
- 28:22Speaker 2: had to call an ambulance and I was on my
- 28:23Speaker 2: way to the hospital. It was my first ever ambulance
- 28:26Speaker 2: ride and definitely not how we imagined my birthday celebration
- 28:30Speaker 2: would go. Thankfully, after being checked, everything was fine. Turned
- 28:34Speaker 2: out to be random 3rd trimester pains and the baby
- 28:37Speaker 2: was perfectly OK.
- 28:38Speaker 2: Fast forward now, baby is 6 months old. Oh, congratulations.
- 28:43Speaker 2: We finally made it back to the same buffet at
- 28:46Speaker 2: Ritz-Carlton for a proper celebration for advanced Father's Day celebrations.
- 28:52Speaker 2: It's now a funny memory we can laugh about with
- 28:54Speaker 2: the little one in our arms. That's so cute, Jolen.
- 28:57Speaker 2: Thank you so much for sharing that story with me. So, so,
- 29:00Speaker 2: so cute.
- 29:01Speaker 2: Um, many new texters coming in. Jem says, something my
- 29:06Speaker 2: mom reminds me constantly every year. On her birthday, she
- 29:10Speaker 2: needs to get admitted to hospital because of me. She
- 29:13Speaker 2: went into labor the night of her birthday, and I
- 29:16Speaker 2: came out the next day. That happened more than 30
- 29:19Speaker 2: years ago, and I'm still reminded of it till this day.
- 29:24Speaker 2: That's really cute and I'm sure that because both of
- 29:27Speaker 2: your birthdays are back to back, it's just a very
- 29:29Speaker 2: uh busy birthday month for you. Um, it's, yeah, I,
- 29:33Speaker 2: I get it. It's such a coincidence, right? But these
- 29:36Speaker 2: are the stories that you will share for the rest
- 29:37Speaker 2: of your life and it will continue to make you laugh.
- 29:40Speaker 2: Thank you so much for these heartfelt messages. I, I
- 29:42Speaker 2: did not expect so many of you to have had
- 29:44Speaker 2: experienced um unfortunate things or unexpected things happening on special occasions.
- 29:50Speaker 2: And we're talking about unfortunate or unexpected things that happen
- 29:53Speaker 2: during special occasions, and honestly, this just really struck a chord.
- 29:58Speaker 2: Frankly speaking, I did not expect so many messages coming through. Um,
- 30:02Speaker 2: I wanna try and squeeze in a couple more before
- 30:05Speaker 2: we wrap it up and uh, give, uh, give the
- 30:08Speaker 2: winner the prize here today.
- 30:10Speaker 2: OK, so saying hi here to, let me get your,
- 30:14Speaker 2: let me get your name here. You said, hey, Sonia. Oh,
- 30:16Speaker 2: MG I just heard you reading out this lady's message
- 30:20Speaker 2: about Ritz-Carlton buffet.
- 30:22Speaker 2: Um, 4 years ago, we were supposed to be there
- 30:24Speaker 2: for their Easter brunch to celebrate our parents' birthday, but nope,
- 30:27Speaker 2: our twins had their own minds. They decided that they
- 30:30Speaker 2: want to arrive on my mom's actual birthday, so we
- 30:33Speaker 2: couldn't make it to the buffet, but we did it
- 30:35Speaker 2: for Thanksgiving last year with the twins. Such a perfect
- 30:38Speaker 2: buffet because they loved it too. Maybe Ritz-Carlton has a
- 30:42Speaker 2: certain magic on pregnant mommies.
- 30:45Speaker 2: Hey, I hope someone from Ritz is tuning in right now, man,
- 30:48Speaker 2: because this could be a perfect like marketing stunt for them. That,
- 30:51Speaker 2: that is simply hilarious. Um, thank you so much for
- 30:54Speaker 2: your message. I think that came from Mel. Yes, thank
- 30:57Speaker 2: you so much for that.
- 30:58Speaker 2: OK, um, that's all the time that I have right
- 31:01Speaker 2: now because one person is walking away with a wonderful,
- 31:05Speaker 2: wonderful treat. This, I really want to go to One
- 31:08Speaker 2: Flower Hill over in Sentosa launching their new dining concept
- 31:11Speaker 2: at Wild Sea Cafe and Wild Seed Bar and Grill.
- 31:15Speaker 2: And this is a Western Japanese.
- 31:17Speaker 2: Inspired, uh, dining experience. In the day, guests can enjoy
- 31:21Speaker 2: Japanese inspired drinks, moder a cafe. At night, it focuses
- 31:25Speaker 2: on Wagyu meats, grilled dishes, cocktails, and this is all
- 31:28Speaker 2: within a very lush hilltop garden atmosphere. Today, I've got
- 31:32Speaker 2: to give it to Birthday Boy RY. Congratulations.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Yeah
- 31:39Speaker 2: Actually, I don't know if um you're, you're a dad
- 31:42Speaker 2: or a mom, because I didn't really get your full name,
- 31:46Speaker 2: but anyway, I only got your initials, but your message
- 31:49Speaker 2: really touched me and, you know, we're talking about celebrating
- 31:52Speaker 2: the wins, right? And you know, when it comes to
- 31:54Speaker 2: a situation where you have an unexpected incident or something
- 31:58Speaker 2: unfortunate happened on your actual birthday, you just lock in.
- 32:00Speaker 2: And you try and deal with the deal with the problem, right?
- 32:03Speaker 2: You don't even think about yourself anymore. So, I want
- 32:05Speaker 2: you to enjoy this treat. Since today is your birthday,
- 32:07Speaker 2: you may not get to go today, but you can
- 32:09Speaker 2: go for a belated belated birthday celebration, and this is
- 32:13Speaker 2: worth $100 over at Wild Sea Cafe at One Flower Hill. Congrats, Enjoy,
- 32:19Speaker 2: and we'll see you there very soon. This calling my
- 32:22Speaker 2: name right now is this dumpling Shop. OK, I have
- 32:25Speaker 2: to say.
- 32:26Speaker 2: The famous Yang's Dumpling from Shanghai has officially opened here
- 32:30Speaker 2: in Singapore, and this is over at Bugis Junction. It
- 32:33Speaker 2: started drawing long lines over the first weekend that it
- 32:37Speaker 2: was opened here, which was, I guess, just the weekend
- 32:39Speaker 2: that went by. Um, it's a famous street food store
- 32:43Speaker 2: in Shanghai, apparently that started in 1994.
- 32:46Speaker 2: Um, it quickly grew to become like a must-visit spot
- 32:48Speaker 2: on a lot of food lists for people that visit there.
- 32:50Speaker 2: In fact, you know what? China is on my list.
- 32:53Speaker 2: I mean, I haven't been back to China since, I
- 32:55Speaker 2: don't know, like half a lifetime ago. The last time
- 32:58Speaker 2: I went there, oh wait, no, I went to China for,
- 33:01Speaker 2: for filming, but that was like Hainan, Hainan Island, so
- 33:05Speaker 2: slightly different kind of vibe, but I did hear very
- 33:08Speaker 2: good things about other places, you know, Shanghai has developed
- 33:10Speaker 2: so much and all that.
- 33:11Speaker 2: Um, but yeah, their, their dumpling making is apparently excellent,
- 33:15Speaker 2: and they're super iconic. They have more than 400 stores islandwide.
- 33:18Speaker 2: They're finally here in Singapore. So you can expect that
- 33:21Speaker 2: traditional kind of like Shanghai, Shanghainese pan-fried pork dumplings, um,
- 33:26Speaker 2: meaty fillings, very soupy juice, um, in the, in the
- 33:30Speaker 2: dumpling also with that pan-fried crispy bottom with just sesame
- 33:35Speaker 2: seeds on the top. Well, it looks so good. Uh,
- 33:37Speaker 2: I really, really like, I'm drooling just looking at these pictures.
- 33:40Speaker 2: Um, they go for about 790 for a plate of 4,
- 33:43Speaker 2: and I think the prawn dumpling version is 1490 for
- 33:46Speaker 2: a plate of 4, but I'm mildly allergic to prawns,
- 33:48Speaker 2: so I don't know whether I'll go for it, but
- 33:50Speaker 2: if it looks that good, I might just go for
- 33:52Speaker 2: it and pop an antihistamine later.
- 33:55Speaker 2: You know, I love food. I love food too much.
- 33:57Speaker 2: I will still eat my favorite beach root prawn mee, OK?
- 34:00Speaker 2: Just take the risk. And, uh, many other dishes that
- 34:03Speaker 2: you can expect, but definitely go for the dumplings. Now, um,
- 34:07Speaker 2: if you do a lot of maybe um business or
- 34:10Speaker 2: you travel up to China quite a bit, this is
- 34:13Speaker 2: pretty interesting because my last experience when I went to China,
- 34:16Speaker 2: I felt like I wasn't that locked in into that
- 34:19Speaker 2: ecosystem because everything is digital there, right, with their own
- 34:22Speaker 2: apps and everything.
- 34:23Speaker 2: So the good news is now, Singapore users can tap
- 34:27Speaker 2: on DBS remits to transfer money to your Weisin Pay wallets,
- 34:32Speaker 2: which is the digital RMB wallet within the Weisin and
- 34:36Speaker 2: WeChat apps. I'm not super familiar, but my friends who
- 34:39Speaker 2: travel up and down a lot, they know that everything
- 34:41Speaker 2: is quite digital now, right? Um, so if, if you're
- 34:44Speaker 2: not familiar as well, this is a mobile banking app
- 34:47Speaker 2: under DBS. It just launched, like, I think on, on Friday.
- 34:51Speaker 2: So funds sent through DBS remit are credited to the
- 34:54Speaker 2: recipient's wallet almost instantly. So you can use it for
- 34:57Speaker 2: other payments, transfers, other services within the WeChat world, as
- 35:01Speaker 2: I call it. Um, so I, I think there will be,
- 35:04Speaker 2: of course, some registration related stuff if you've never tried
- 35:08Speaker 2: it before or some verification, but ever since they launched,
- 35:12Speaker 2: I think, officially, they announced it in February, there was
- 35:16Speaker 2: so much interest in it.
- 35:17Speaker 2: And the number of customers using this service has quadrupled. So,
- 35:21Speaker 2: congrats you guys, very, very good, very good move there.
- 35:24Speaker 2: I think other banks are definitely going to move into
- 35:26Speaker 2: a similar service very soon. It is only growing at
- 35:30Speaker 2: a rapid pace, this particular sector. So, um, do keep
- 35:34Speaker 2: a lookout in case your own local bank starts to
- 35:37Speaker 2: launch certain things and you find it useful as well,
- 35:39Speaker 2: that could be great. But for me,
- 35:41Speaker 2: Haven't made plans to travel to China just yet, um,
- 35:45Speaker 2: and I haven't found much use for my apps yet.
- 35:48Speaker 2: In fact, I think, I don't even know if I've
- 35:50Speaker 2: like my WeChat app anymore, to be very honest, but
- 35:54Speaker 2: very soon, I would love to plan a trip there
- 35:56Speaker 2: as long as I can navigate around. I mean, I,
- 35:59Speaker 2: I might still have to use like translation app and
- 36:01Speaker 2: all that because, you know, I'm the most hopeless person
- 36:04Speaker 2: when it comes to Mandarin.
