- 0:16Speaker 1: Welcome into this Wednesday edition of Jags Am. After a
- 0:20Speaker 1: disastrous performance on Monday Night Football, I'm ka Nannie Stevens,
- 0:23Speaker 1: Brian Sexton, and John Oser are with me today. We're
- 0:26Speaker 1: gonna talk this thing out, but we are not gonna
- 0:27Speaker 1: sugarcoat things. It did not look good in primetime. It
- 0:31Speaker 1: was embarrassing for the Jags as they lost to Buffalo,
- 0:34Speaker 1: Big thing, number one blowout in Buffalo. I haven't been
- 0:37Speaker 1: here that long. That was the worst performance I've seen
- 0:39Speaker 1: from the team. Brian, You've been here a long time.
- 0:42Speaker 2: That was not good.
- 0:43Speaker 3: That was the.
- 0:43Speaker 4: Worst regular season loss in franchise history. And I can
- 0:46Speaker 4: go through it and we don't have graphics to support it,
- 0:49Speaker 4: but trust me, that was the worst. And it is
- 0:53Speaker 4: emphasized highlighted by the fact that there was so much
- 0:56Speaker 4: on the line that the quarterback spoke his mind. After
- 0:59Speaker 4: the lost Sunday to the Browns. We all expected this
- 1:03Speaker 4: team to be a competitive contender this year. Not may
- 1:06Speaker 4: be sure it was a super Bowl, but in the
- 1:08Speaker 4: mix for the division title in the playoffs, and despite
- 1:12Speaker 4: two losses, they kind of looked like maybe they could
- 1:14Speaker 4: get there. Last night, John, it didn't look like they
- 1:17Speaker 4: even belonged in the conversation.
- 1:19Speaker 5: Yeah, unfortunately, I can think of some that I could
- 1:22Speaker 5: compare it to Tampa last year. Sort of felt this
- 1:25Speaker 5: way to me. But look, I mean, i'm nitpicking it.
- 1:29Speaker 5: It was as bad as I can remember. And I've
- 1:33Speaker 5: said to anybody who listen, I expected energy early. I
- 1:36Speaker 5: expected the Jaguars to lead. I expected one of those
- 1:38Speaker 5: games where the commentators were talking about, hey, look at
- 1:41Speaker 5: how well they're playing, look at their fight, this is
- 1:44Speaker 5: an okay team. And then I expected Josh Allen, which
- 1:47Speaker 5: he did in the first half take over the game.
- 1:49Speaker 5: I did not expect what looked like listless. But I mean,
- 1:55Speaker 5: whatever adjective you can use for poor, it was bad.
- 1:59Speaker 5: It was garrassing, and it's the kind of thing that
- 2:03Speaker 5: something needs to get shaken up and we'll find out
- 2:05Speaker 5: what it is.
- 2:05Speaker 2: You know.
- 2:06Speaker 4: And I have to say I felt like it was
- 2:09Speaker 4: over when they went three and out on their first
- 2:12Speaker 4: offensive series. By the way, they have done that with
- 2:15Speaker 4: their first offensive series in each of the three games
- 2:18Speaker 4: this season, and it just spelled doom. The Bills were
- 2:22Speaker 4: in such great form and they just charged down the field.
- 2:26Speaker 4: You had to answer, you had to do something, and
- 2:29Speaker 4: they couldn't do anything with an offense that we all
- 2:31Speaker 4: expected would be able to build on what they did
- 2:34Speaker 4: last year. It just it leaves you scratching your head thinking.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Can they fix this, and just so frustrating considering the
- 2:41Speaker 1: expectations going into this year as well. Big Thing number
- 2:45Speaker 1: two unstoppable. We put a lot on the offense not
- 2:48Speaker 1: getting going.
- 2:48Speaker 2: So far this season.
- 2:49Speaker 1: The defense looked terrible on Monday Night Football, allowing the
- 2:52Speaker 1: Bills to score at Will. Yes, Buffalo is a very
- 2:55Speaker 1: talented team, but Jaguars made them look even better. John,
- 2:57Speaker 1: that was frustrating. We talked about this new design scheme,
- 3:00Speaker 1: but there was just so many issues on the front,
- 3:03Speaker 1: the back, all of it.
- 3:04Speaker 5: Yeah, they were down in the secondary. Jaron Jones got
- 3:08Speaker 5: hurt early, and Tyson Campbell's already out, Darnel Savage is
- 3:11Speaker 5: already out.
- 3:11Speaker 3: All those things.
- 3:13Speaker 5: Look, they're gonna play man, and they kept playing man
- 3:16Speaker 5: on Monday Night and the Bills kept beating it with
- 3:19Speaker 5: plays that were frankly designed to beat man. The X
- 3:24Speaker 5: factor to me and the thing that is concerning, I
- 3:27Speaker 5: really thought the lynch pin of this defense was gonna
- 3:31Speaker 5: be the front. I thought Eric Armstead Trayvon Walker, josh
- 3:34Speaker 5: Heines Allen, Devine, Hamilton. I kind of pictured Brian a
- 3:40Speaker 5: group that could win with four and could dominate without help,
- 3:44Speaker 5: and they haven't been that in big moments or against
- 3:49Speaker 5: Buffalo any more.
- 3:50Speaker 4: You know, you said lynchpin to the defense, But I
- 3:52Speaker 4: think you and I talked during the course of the
- 3:55Speaker 4: preseason about them being the strength of this team.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Right.
- 3:58Speaker 4: They would shut up the offense in good field position.
- 4:01Speaker 4: They would be able to you know, in the case
- 4:02Speaker 4: of turnovers, which we saw way too many of last year,
- 4:05Speaker 4: they would be able to get the ball back or
- 4:07Speaker 4: at least to hold a team to a field goal attempt.
- 4:11Speaker 4: The talent is there to get it done. But you
- 4:13Speaker 4: know there were moments. Josh Heinz Allen, on the first
- 4:16Speaker 4: touchdown run, took a terrible angle on the running back Cook.
- 4:20Speaker 4: I just I was stunned that he jumped so far
- 4:23Speaker 4: inside and then couldn't get back. It looked to me
- 4:27Speaker 4: like it was here we go again. Panic on the
- 4:31Speaker 4: defensive side when they couldn't get the stop. I don't
- 4:34Speaker 4: know whether that was not being able to get him
- 4:36Speaker 4: off the field on fourth down because of the error
- 4:38Speaker 4: by Andre cisco I don't know. But when they got
- 4:41Speaker 4: deep into the red zone and it appeared that they
- 4:43Speaker 4: were going to score, the Jaguars defense panicked.
- 4:47Speaker 5: Yeah, it's hard to look at it unless you know
- 4:50Speaker 5: what the assignments are. But often in that situation, you
- 4:53Speaker 5: get down early, there's some urgency to it, and you
- 4:57Speaker 5: sort of start playing hero ball on defense. Going after
- 5:00Speaker 5: that are outside the scheme, and that's where you got
- 5:04Speaker 5: to be careful sometimes as saying whether there was no effort,
- 5:08Speaker 5: usually it's misplaced effort that causes a performance last night.
- 5:13Speaker 5: In Eventually and talked to coaches this week, my guess
- 5:15Speaker 5: is that's what it is.
- 5:17Speaker 1: It's gonna be a short week because we played on
- 5:19Speaker 1: Monday night football. Our final big thing is changes. So
- 5:22Speaker 1: going into this week, something has to change, whether it
- 5:25Speaker 1: be personality, the scheme, what they're gonna do exactly, Brian,
- 5:27Speaker 1: When you're looking at changes like this, we heard from
- 5:30Speaker 1: head coach Doug Peterson about saying everything is on the table.
- 5:34Speaker 6: Honestly, I don't know what you change.
- 5:36Speaker 4: I mean, if you looked at the starting defensive line
- 5:38Speaker 4: last night, it was Tyler Lacy and Orlando Ledbetter that
- 5:42Speaker 4: started out there. I mean, Ryan Nielson moves guys around.
- 5:44Speaker 4: It's not like personnel changes there. And I said last week,
- 5:48Speaker 4: I think you had to have the conversation about replacing
- 5:50Speaker 4: Cam Robinson, who had a really difficult game, But by
- 5:53Speaker 4: the end of the game, your ability to do that
- 5:56Speaker 4: was compromised by Anton Harrison's injury. And now Walker Little
- 5:59Speaker 4: starting on the rights. So the offensive line would be
- 6:02Speaker 4: an area where I would be interested in getting young,
- 6:05Speaker 4: hungry players into the lineup. Walker Little is playing for
- 6:09Speaker 4: a contract. I would love to play or leverage that
- 6:13Speaker 4: his human nature to go out and play his best.
- 6:16Speaker 4: But now I've grasping at straws here. You can't make
- 6:19Speaker 4: a lot of changes during the course of an NFL season.
- 6:21Speaker 5: Well, Doug alluded to it after the game on Monday.
- 6:24Speaker 5: You know there is an element here. You've prepared the
- 6:27Speaker 5: way you build teams in this day and age. You
- 6:29Speaker 5: build your depth chart with the idea you're going to
- 6:31Speaker 5: go play. You have your backups, and there's a few cases.
- 6:34Speaker 5: Walker Little could be a case. Cooper Hotts could be
- 6:36Speaker 5: a case. I don't see him on defense pulling Trayvon Walker,
- 6:41Speaker 5: Josh Haines, Allen Devon. You know these guys were talking
- 6:44Speaker 5: about they're not going to change scheme, Doug said on Tuesday.
- 6:51Speaker 5: I think it was not gonna make changes in terms
- 6:54Speaker 5: of game day roles in.
- 6:56Speaker 3: The coaching staff. Look, it's the old thing.
- 7:00Speaker 5: People have watched these shows of ours during struggling seasons.
- 7:04Speaker 5: They want change. There's a limit how much you can
- 7:06Speaker 5: do on the fly. You just got to do what
- 7:08Speaker 5: you're doing better. Tweak a few things, but it's not
- 7:10Speaker 5: gonna be wholesale.
- 7:12Speaker 1: I think they might be forced into some changes as well.
- 7:14Speaker 1: We've had some injuries in that game and before the
- 7:16Speaker 1: game as well. Will go over that a little bit
- 7:18Speaker 1: later on in the show. Stay with us, we're gonna

- 10:45Speaker 13: It's not for lack of effort or trying and all
- 10:47Speaker 13: of that. I just think that sometimes you just have
- 10:51Speaker 13: to get out of your own way, right and we
- 10:55Speaker 13: just keep digging ourselves in a in a hole early
- 10:58Speaker 13: and can't it seemed to dig our way out of it,
- 11:02Speaker 13: you know, especially you know, as one sided as this
- 11:05Speaker 13: game was today.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Jaguars got behind early, that is for sure.
- 11:10Speaker 1: I will politely disagree with Doug a little bit there,
- 11:13Speaker 1: because there may be effort, but as soon as there
- 11:15Speaker 1: is any resistance, it just feels like they kind of
- 11:18Speaker 1: put their hands up to it. Brian, and I think
- 11:20Speaker 1: that's part of the frustration I'm feeling. Is if you
- 11:22Speaker 1: feel like everybody's going out there giving one hundred and
- 11:24Speaker 1: ten percent and they just aren't good enough, then that's fine.
- 11:28Speaker 1: But I think we all feel that there are talented
- 11:30Speaker 1: parts of this rosters. There's ways to do this, and
- 11:33Speaker 1: they're just not doing it correctly.
- 11:34Speaker 4: Say it with me, because you've heard me say that
- 11:36Speaker 4: this is not a resilient team. They weren't last year
- 11:39Speaker 4: when things turned bad, and I get it there were injuries.
- 11:41Speaker 6: John and that prevented them.
- 11:43Speaker 4: But the Buccaneers game and at the end of the season,
- 11:47Speaker 4: the Titans game with everything to play for on that
- 11:49Speaker 4: final Sunday of the season, the playoffs, the division title,
- 11:53Speaker 4: nothing right, and then last night with everything that was
- 11:56Speaker 4: there when things went bad, where was the resultancy, call
- 12:00Speaker 4: it mental toughness, call it whatever you want. This team
- 12:03Speaker 4: is lacking in their ability, and we can talk about
- 12:06Speaker 4: their lacking and ability you know, on the field, but
- 12:09Speaker 4: often the field, I mean between the head, you know,
- 12:11Speaker 4: here here you expect to see more when things get tough.
- 12:17Speaker 4: I expect to see more when things get tough.
- 12:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:21Speaker 5: Again, I don't doubt the want to as much as
- 12:26Speaker 5: the ability to want to the right way. And uh,
- 12:32Speaker 5: I know they want to win, but in the last
- 12:33Speaker 5: nine games, there's a there's a collective belief that a
- 12:38Speaker 5: team has to have to sort of stop one of
- 12:40Speaker 5: these things and coming together, and I think they want to.
- 12:44Speaker 5: And then when it doesn't happen in the big moments,
- 12:47Speaker 5: when there's not that guy to jump up and make
- 12:49Speaker 5: the big play, they felt to me a little bit
- 12:52Speaker 5: like like the end of last year when we all
- 12:53Speaker 5: talked about and Josh eines Allen said it after the season,
- 12:57Speaker 5: sort of waiting for somebody else to make that big play.
- 13:00Speaker 5: They keep thinking somebody will be the guy to step up,
- 13:04Speaker 5: you know, and after nine games it's fair to wonder
- 13:06Speaker 5: do they have that guy?
- 13:07Speaker 3: And I hope they do. Right now, they have to
- 13:10Speaker 3: show they did.
- 13:11Speaker 6: It was their last night.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Let's look at some of these Josh Allen touchdown throws,
- 13:16Speaker 1: because we talk a little bit about a player making plays.
- 13:18Speaker 1: He wants to make those plays and obviously he's one
- 13:21Speaker 1: of the best.
- 13:21Speaker 2: In the league.
- 13:21Speaker 1: That's a perfect example, but just the way he's setting
- 13:24Speaker 1: up the offense and what the Buffalo Bills have been
- 13:26Speaker 1: able to do it because I look at Josh Allen
- 13:28Speaker 1: as a little bit as an example, like he used
- 13:30Speaker 1: to have those problems where he'd throw interceptions, but he
- 13:32Speaker 1: was throwing the ball. He was making those decisions and
- 13:35Speaker 1: kind of taking that role on good and bad and
- 13:37Speaker 1: worked through it to the point where he's at now.
- 13:40Speaker 1: And you want that for our team. You want that
- 13:42Speaker 1: for Trevor, you want that for Josh Heinzealen, you want that.
- 13:44Speaker 2: For all of them.
- 13:45Speaker 1: And it's just to see it. The Stark comparison made
- 13:49Speaker 1: it even more drastic to me.
- 13:52Speaker 5: With good teams, Brian, you feel like, I'm never quite
- 13:56Speaker 5: sure how to enunciate this perfect way, but they know
- 14:00Speaker 5: how they want to play, and the Bills feel like
- 14:03Speaker 5: they know exactly what they want to do and they
- 14:05Speaker 5: have the capability to do it. And the Jaguars right now,
- 14:10Speaker 5: I don't think you can watch their offense and think
- 14:12Speaker 5: that they know it collectively exactly what they want to
- 14:15Speaker 5: do or who they want to be. Some of that
- 14:17Speaker 5: is because they haven't converted a third down, so that
- 14:19Speaker 5: you know, we're back to talking identity a little bit.
- 14:25Speaker 3: The Bills got on a roll and knew exactly how
- 14:27Speaker 3: they wanted to attack. The Jaguars haven't gotten there.
- 14:34Speaker 5: I'm trying to analyze it, saying, as I heard last night,
- 14:36Speaker 5: there's just so little to analyze when you get blown
- 14:38Speaker 5: out like this. But Josh, that to me feels like
- 14:40Speaker 5: something like it.
- 14:40Speaker 4: Josh Allen here looks like he is playing in the backyard,
- 14:43Speaker 4: just scrambling around and making the play.
- 14:45Speaker 6: He feels comfortable.
- 14:47Speaker 4: He's clearless he's the best player on the field last night.
- 14:50Speaker 4: I mean, anything he wanted to do he did seemingly
- 14:52Speaker 4: with ease.
- 14:54Speaker 6: But just watch the way.
- 14:55Speaker 4: That he moves and you realize he knows exactly what
- 14:57Speaker 4: he's doing, as opposed to you Trevor out there and
- 15:00Speaker 4: it looked like he was so mechanical and forced and
- 15:03Speaker 4: trying to do everything by the numbers, right, He's not
- 15:08Speaker 4: at the same level as Josh Allen.
- 15:11Speaker 6: And again it's not.
- 15:12Speaker 4: All on Trevor, but you expect big plays and their
- 15:15Speaker 4: quarterback made them and our quarterback did not.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Yep, look a little bit of what Trevor was dealing with,
- 15:21Speaker 1: because yes, Trevor does need to make plays. The offensive
- 15:24Speaker 1: line also needs to hold up a little bit. And
- 15:26Speaker 1: then I think a little bit of it is a
- 15:28Speaker 1: combination of both because they aren't playing well. Then Trevor
- 15:31Speaker 1: gets in his own head a little bit about thinking
- 15:33Speaker 1: he's going to get pressure no matter what. So seeing
- 15:36Speaker 1: that play and just kind of him getting backed a lot.
- 15:38Speaker 1: There was a lot of combinations there, and people wanted
- 15:40Speaker 1: to talk about the play calling a lot. I don't
- 15:42Speaker 1: know what you can do because there wasn't much time
- 15:45Speaker 1: to do much of anything with some of these plays here.
- 15:48Speaker 6: Well, there's no time there.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Yes, and we'll see what the injury situation is. I
- 15:53Speaker 1: know Anton has a knee injury he's dealing with. So
- 15:55Speaker 1: we saw Walker a little in there a little bit.
- 15:57Speaker 1: He didn't look great either. We hadn't seen Walker and
- 15:59Speaker 1: we thought, oh, maybe that one help.
- 16:00Speaker 5: Yeah, some of it is like what we're showing here
- 16:04Speaker 5: is late in the game, when the Bills just teed off,
- 16:08Speaker 5: just knew what was coming and anguish. Trevor talked about
- 16:13Speaker 5: how when that happens against the Bills, they have a
- 16:14Speaker 5: lot of different looks.
- 16:15Speaker 3: They can bring all those looks at every play.
- 16:17Speaker 5: If you get down twenty five to a team like
- 16:20Speaker 5: the Bills, you're gonna have big, big problems.
- 16:22Speaker 3: In past pro.
- 16:22Speaker 5: There's still in the first half, there's opportunities there where
- 16:26Speaker 5: there's time, and even beyond the offensive line, it's not
- 16:31Speaker 5: clicking when there are opportunities. They then you figure out
- 16:34Speaker 5: when you get a lead, play with the lead, convert
- 16:36Speaker 5: some third downs, all those cliche stuff.
- 16:40Speaker 3: I guess I'll believe when I see it.
- 16:42Speaker 4: I Doug said, you know, you've got a lot of
- 16:45Speaker 4: time invested, and you have an offensive philosophy, you have
- 16:49Speaker 4: a way that you want to play. Just an observation.
- 16:54Speaker 4: This team needs to be able to run the ball
- 16:55Speaker 4: to set up play auction. It's not like you're gonna line.
- 16:58Speaker 5: Up and they've been doing that. Cat I think the
- 17:02Speaker 5: chance to do that got away from them a little
- 17:04Speaker 5: did last night. They definitely want to do that, but
- 17:07Speaker 5: you have to do that yeah.
- 17:08Speaker 6: You have to be able to do that.
- 17:10Speaker 2: I'm playing from behind obviously.
- 17:11Speaker 4: No, it doesn't, it doesn't lead to that, But I
- 17:13Speaker 4: just I'd like to see Tank Bigsby slamming the ball
- 17:16Speaker 4: in on first down, you know, and creating some yardage
- 17:19Speaker 4: in the middle of that, to to bring the safeties
- 17:21Speaker 4: to the line of scrimmage and allow Trevor at the
- 17:24Speaker 4: time to go throw it.
- 17:26Speaker 1: We saw Trevor's interception overthrowing Brian Thomas Jr. Be talking
- 17:29Speaker 1: so much about getting Brian Thomas Junior involved. I know
- 17:31Speaker 1: it was kind of later on when they were trying
- 17:33Speaker 1: to figure something out, but just seeing that regression as
- 17:36Speaker 1: well was tough because we hadn't seen that a little.
- 17:39Speaker 1: I mean, he wasn't playing great, but he wasn't turning
- 17:41Speaker 1: the ball.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Over like that, and see that as well as just
- 17:44Speaker 2: kind of icing on the cake at that point. Unfortunately.
- 17:46Speaker 5: Yeah, I guess to me, at that point, I felt
- 17:50Speaker 5: like whatever, because I'm not trying to be facetious there.
- 17:56Speaker 2: I understand.
- 17:57Speaker 3: I felt like, twenty three.
- 17:58Speaker 5: Those are gonna score and they got the ball back
- 17:59Speaker 5: no matter and they were playing so up hill. He
- 18:01Speaker 5: hadn't done that this year. I can't start doing that.
- 18:06Speaker 5: He sailed it and his mo Throughout the course of
- 18:09Speaker 5: his career, he does that a few times a year,
- 18:11Speaker 5: and I wish he didn't. But I even had a
- 18:16Speaker 5: tough time putting that in key plays because I didn't
- 18:18Speaker 5: feel like I cared that much about that.
- 18:20Speaker 4: But you know what's interesting about this play, And I
- 18:22Speaker 4: can open my notebook and show you thisay I wrote
- 18:25Speaker 4: down on as they were getting ready to go forward
- 18:27Speaker 4: him fourth down, right at their own what thirty nine
- 18:29Speaker 4: to forty yard line, I wrote, turn out the lights,
- 18:32Speaker 4: calm at the parties over the old the Andy Don
- 18:34Speaker 4: Meredith song that he used to sing from the broadcast booth.
- 18:36Speaker 4: Because I thought, you don't get this one. I mean,
- 18:39Speaker 4: there's no chance whatsoever. And Trevor took the snap and
- 18:42Speaker 4: did what Dougas said he doesn't do very well. He
- 18:44Speaker 4: put his shoulder down and you could just see he
- 18:46Speaker 4: was not going to be denied on down a little
- 18:47Speaker 4: crease and you could you had a great camera angle.
- 18:51Speaker 4: You could see the look on his face. So I
- 18:53Speaker 4: scratched it out. I thought, Okay, the quarterback's got something. Literally,
- 18:56Speaker 4: it's right there. I scratched it out, and then the
- 18:59Speaker 4: very next play was the intersept. I wrote it again,
- 19:01Speaker 4: turn out the lights, the parties as.
- 19:02Speaker 1: We read and pen that time. Yep, that's enough for
- 19:06Speaker 1: a video. We're gonna come back talk a little bit

- 22:39Speaker 1: That's all right, We're gonna go over a little this
- 22:44Speaker 1: or that. We're not the experts in terms of how
- 22:46Speaker 1: to fix this, but we're going to try to talk
- 22:47Speaker 1: this out and see if we can figure out what
- 22:49Speaker 1: they might be doing here.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Obviously, changes are all on the table.
- 22:52Speaker 1: Had coached Doug Peterson said that as much after the
- 22:54Speaker 1: game and today we look at.
- 22:56Speaker 2: The offensive side of the ball.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Personnel probably not going to be seeing its huge change there,
- 23:00Speaker 1: I imagine, just do injuries in the scheme that they
- 23:03Speaker 1: already have in place. But is it personnel is a scheming?
- 23:07Speaker 1: What can be changed? What is possible? Is it just execution?
- 23:10Speaker 2: Still well?
- 23:11Speaker 4: I mean, execution is absolutely the overriding.
- 23:14Speaker 6: I mean it's ninety percent of it. At least.
- 23:18Speaker 4: The injury is going to make it interesting. I'll say
- 23:20Speaker 4: the same thing I did last week. Cam Robinson is
- 23:22Speaker 4: not playing well, and if he can't hold up your
- 23:25Speaker 4: quarterback can't play well. I would make the change. I
- 23:28Speaker 4: put Walker Little in, a guy who's hungry and playing
- 23:30Speaker 4: for a contract, who you thought would be your starting
- 23:33Speaker 4: left tackle at some point when you drafted him in
- 23:35Speaker 4: the second round overall. I would also make the move
- 23:38Speaker 4: with Cooper Hodges. The coaches can go, Brian, you don't
- 23:41Speaker 4: know what you're talking about. You don't see the same
- 23:42Speaker 4: thing that we see on the practice field. You don't
- 23:44Speaker 4: know what we know. But he's a young, hungry, strong player.
- 23:49Speaker 4: And I just got done saying that. I think they've
- 23:51Speaker 4: got to be better using play action, and that means
- 23:54Speaker 4: the running game, and I just don't have a lot
- 23:57Speaker 4: of confidence that the right guard moves anybody anymore. I
- 24:00Speaker 4: would be pushing to get Cooper Hodges in, but I
- 24:02Speaker 4: can't think of anything outside that.
- 24:03Speaker 5: Yeah, I think those changes they sort of have a
- 24:07Speaker 5: feeling now of inevitability at some point. I don't know
- 24:11Speaker 5: when that point will be, I don't know. If it's
- 24:13Speaker 5: not on Sunday, I know when it would be. I
- 24:16Speaker 5: think Brian touched on something earlier, and I either don't
- 24:20Speaker 5: give you that much credit. Note maybe we should switch,
- 24:23Speaker 5: Maybe I should sit there. Maybe that would be switch
- 24:26Speaker 5: spots on the couch that way. I think maybe running
- 24:28Speaker 5: bigsby a little bit early. Not that Travis, you know,
- 24:33Speaker 5: hasn't done anything to not get his carries, but that
- 24:36Speaker 5: that could be a thing. They tried getting it to Gabe,
- 24:39Speaker 5: I mean, not gave but Brian Thomas Junior a little
- 24:42Speaker 5: more pointedly at times on Monday. So maybe those are
- 24:48Speaker 5: beyond that. It's just difficult because you had put so
- 24:51Speaker 5: much preparation and everybody sort of knows what your best
- 24:56Speaker 5: shot is, even the players sort of know that on
- 24:59Speaker 5: most so when you start changing that, you feel like
- 25:03Speaker 5: you're weakening yourself, even though public.
- 25:05Speaker 3: Perception is, oh, we gotta make a change.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:08Speaker 5: So I think any changes might be a little more
- 25:12Speaker 5: subtle in terms of game plan than they are like
- 25:17Speaker 5: bold personnel moves that can be tweeted.
- 25:19Speaker 4: Listen, And I gotta be honest, after last night, I
- 25:22Speaker 4: just want some power. I want something that feels powerful
- 25:27Speaker 4: and Tank Bigsby is a power back, and I think
- 25:31Speaker 4: that you will. And it seems like he's always moving forward, right,
- 25:35Speaker 4: it seems like he's always still grinding his way for
- 25:37Speaker 4: three or four yards. I just think if you can
- 25:40Speaker 4: do that, you can force a defense to adjust and
- 25:43Speaker 4: then you can take your shots. Again, oversimplification sitting here
- 25:46Speaker 4: without tape and the analytics reporting all of that, But
- 25:49Speaker 4: having done this for thirty years, I think I know
- 25:51Speaker 4: enough to think that would help.
- 25:53Speaker 2: By the eye test, that definitely, Yeah.
- 25:55Speaker 6: That's the way to put it.
- 25:56Speaker 1: When we look at the defensive side of the ball,
- 25:58Speaker 1: we talked a little bit about the man coverage that
- 25:59Speaker 1: did not work against Buffalo. Obviously that's what they've been
- 26:01Speaker 1: hanging their hat on under the same defensive.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Team under Ryan Nielsen. Is this something you tweak?
- 26:06Speaker 1: Is this something you change, Especially with the personnel that
- 26:08Speaker 1: you may not now have available because of injuries, you
- 26:12Speaker 1: have to kind of change that a little bit.
- 26:14Speaker 5: I think it's hard because it's sort of what you've
- 26:16Speaker 5: built your philosophy.
- 26:18Speaker 3: You know, aggressive attack. This has been what has been preached.
- 26:24Speaker 5: So you get away from that after one game, which
- 26:27Speaker 5: really for the defense it's it's.
- 26:29Speaker 6: The first bag game.
- 26:30Speaker 3: It's one game.
- 26:32Speaker 5: You get away from that, and then you've got players
- 26:34Speaker 5: sitting in their lockers on why we're going to wake
- 26:36Speaker 5: like I thought we were doing this. So you got
- 26:39Speaker 5: to be careful of completely reidentifying what you've said your
- 26:43Speaker 5: philosophy is.
- 26:46Speaker 3: But you also have to adapt.
- 26:48Speaker 5: So right now, I don't know that there's major personnel
- 26:52Speaker 5: changes to be made because in the secondary they're low.
- 26:55Speaker 5: They've already been rotating along the front, and I'm not
- 26:59Speaker 5: sure they're going to get away from that. So subtly
- 27:03Speaker 5: blitz a little more.
- 27:05Speaker 3: I hate being the get after the quarterback. Be aggressive,
- 27:08Speaker 3: blitz guy. I don't think you'll see huge philosophical changes
- 27:12Speaker 3: on defense.
- 27:13Speaker 4: And let me turn around and repay the compliment because
- 27:15Speaker 4: you have been on this one.
- 27:17Speaker 2: You guys are being so sweet.
- 27:18Speaker 3: Well, it feels like.
- 27:20Speaker 4: We're not saying anything nice because we really haven't. I mean,
- 27:22Speaker 4: there's nothing nice to say. However, John has said steadfastly
- 27:27Speaker 4: about this team is that it's not the secondary, it's
- 27:30Speaker 4: the front, right. I mean, in today's NFL, the way
- 27:33Speaker 4: that the rules are written, rare are the players, the
- 27:36Speaker 4: cornerbacks who are so strong and skilled that they can
- 27:41Speaker 4: shut down a wide receiver. This is about the front.
- 27:44Speaker 4: I don't see them changing. I see them trying to
- 27:47Speaker 4: get more pressure. I don't know whether that's bringing a
- 27:50Speaker 4: blitzing linebacker.
- 27:52Speaker 6: I don't know how they do it.
- 27:54Speaker 4: But it has to start up front before you can
- 27:57Speaker 4: start thinking about what you're doing in the back end.
- 27:58Speaker 5: Yeah, to reiterate, when they sign Armstead and they brought
- 28:02Speaker 5: and Hamilton was healthy, you had Trayvon and Josh top
- 28:05Speaker 5: ten picks.
- 28:06Speaker 3: Philosophically, you were.
- 28:07Speaker 5: Saying we will be good because we're elite here and
- 28:11Speaker 5: that bunch as a group, I think back hasn't played
- 28:16Speaker 5: all that elite and if the defense is gonna be
- 28:19Speaker 5: big time, that's where.
- 28:20Speaker 3: It has to start.
- 28:21Speaker 2: All right. How about a little optimism for this one
- 28:23Speaker 2: as we look forward? Can a win change something? Right now?
- 28:26Speaker 1: I know there's not a lot of confidence in this,
- 28:28Speaker 1: but if you look at this what the division looks like,
- 28:31Speaker 1: it's not as if anybody's doing a great job. Houston
- 28:35Speaker 1: is still obviously because it's just three weeks in, we're
- 28:38Speaker 1: still in range. If you go to Houston and you
- 28:39Speaker 1: get a win, I would say that would change what
- 28:43Speaker 1: I think of this team. Do I know they can
- 28:46Speaker 1: do that at this point, I don't.
- 28:48Speaker 2: It absolutely can change, It would change my mind.
- 28:51Speaker 3: Because of this too.
- 28:53Speaker 5: The Texans still have the same difficult, brutal schedule as
- 28:58Speaker 5: the Jaguars. They've already played the Colts, They've already played
- 29:03Speaker 5: the Bears.
- 29:04Speaker 3: Those are two teams.
- 29:05Speaker 5: Look right now, the way the Jaguar are saying, I'm
- 29:08Speaker 5: not saying they're favorite to getst any team, but those
- 29:10Speaker 5: aren't the Bills, for example, right, So you feel like
- 29:14Speaker 5: there will be games the.
- 29:16Speaker 3: Texans can lose.
- 29:17Speaker 5: They're not going undefeated if you get back within one
- 29:20Speaker 5: game in the tie break, which you would then with
- 29:22Speaker 5: a straight face Doug until the team right back in it,
- 29:24Speaker 5: and he's not saying anything.
- 29:27Speaker 3: It's not true. So absolutely can change it.
- 29:30Speaker 4: And you get the Colts the next weekend and you
- 29:31Speaker 4: have a chance at home to go to and zero
- 29:34Speaker 4: in the division, right, which is what it takes for
- 29:36Speaker 4: this team to make the playoffs, because you won't have
- 29:38Speaker 4: any tiebreakers with a couple of losses in the AFC
- 29:40Speaker 4: early on.
- 29:41Speaker 5: But we may we may as well be in your homestay, Brian,
- 29:44Speaker 5: to show me state. Yeah, because you got to show
- 29:47Speaker 5: me because before I say this team is gonna do
- 29:49Speaker 5: anything at this point to do it, I'm the when
- 29:51Speaker 5: I said they're gonna play with energy on Monday, you
- 29:53Speaker 5: weren't the only one.
- 29:54Speaker 3: Right. Well, it's about me though, so.
- 29:58Speaker 4: So amazing cany that again until I see amazingly as
- 30:03Speaker 4: negative as everything is right now, and it is, you
- 30:07Speaker 4: can forget about this with a win, because now you're
- 30:11Speaker 4: talking about coming home a game behind them and the
- 30:15Speaker 4: Colts the next week, and you have a chance there
- 30:18Speaker 4: to be right in the thick of things. Yes, one
- 30:20Speaker 4: win at this moment of the season can change everything.
- 30:23Speaker 2: All is not lost.

- 34:19Speaker 15: And I think that's what we're lacking right now, is
- 34:21Speaker 15: we're not just not making the place.
- 34:24Speaker 6: We're in positions to do it and not doing it.
- 34:26Speaker 1: So players are gonna get a chance to make the
- 34:29Speaker 1: plays in a very important game as we take on
- 34:31Speaker 1: the Houston Texans, leaders of the division, on Sunday.
- 34:36Speaker 2: And I know it's short weeks, so they're gonna have
- 34:39Speaker 2: to flush it a little bit quickly.
- 34:40Speaker 1: But I will say because of the delays of the
- 34:42Speaker 1: team playing, they got to sit with it for several
- 34:45Speaker 1: hours in a stadium where they got blown out, and
- 34:48Speaker 1: to sit there and while I don't advocate for wallowing
- 34:50Speaker 1: in it, sometimes you need to think.
- 34:52Speaker 2: About what you've done. And I feel like the team
- 34:54Speaker 2: got to do that.
- 34:55Speaker 3: Now.
- 34:55Speaker 1: They're gonna come back in this week and work on
- 34:57Speaker 1: it and in a short week try to turn this
- 34:59Speaker 1: thing around.
- 35:00Speaker 4: They need a hard corner, right, I mean, something they
- 35:02Speaker 4: can hold on to and thrust themselves into a different holeway,
- 35:05Speaker 4: so to speak, Something that takes them, you know, at
- 35:07Speaker 4: a turning point in their season.
- 35:09Speaker 6: Maybe that was it. They need it desperately this week.
- 35:12Speaker 5: And the Texans are good, but they did not play
- 35:14Speaker 5: well Sunday. There's some flaws that you should be able
- 35:18Speaker 5: to take advantage of, but the Jaguars have a lot
- 35:20Speaker 5: of flaws have to fix.
- 35:21Speaker 2: Can be done.
- 35:22Speaker 1: We'll look ahead on Thursday to see a little bit
