- 1:29athletically questionable. [laughter]

- 1:34can just unzip the back? Keep it on.

- 2:01now.
- 2:01>> That's what [laughter] inserts.
- 2:04>> It's a $1 bill right now. Gross into
- 2:06100.
- 2:07>> Hey, let's be serious. It's a wrinkled

- 2:09>> Oh [laughter] boy. God.
- 2:12>> Podcast.
- 2:13>> This is what we do.
- 2:14>> Are we on Are we on camera?
- 2:15>> We are on camera every single Wednesday.
- 2:17We bring it out. Of course, we we post
- 2:19this on Thursday, but we come in here
- 2:21early on uh Wednesdays every single
- 2:23week.
- 2:24>> You can put the whole can in.
- 2:25>> I put a big one in, man. I put a big
- 2:27goddamn difference. And I don't give a
- 2:29[ __ ] That's what I do, baby. [laughter]
- 2:31Does my wife care? You damn RIGHT
- 2:35on the couch. And she was not happy with
- 2:37me.
- 2:38>> It was disgusting.
- 2:39>> Cam is famous for having these like I
- 2:42spent some time on the road with Cam
- 2:44doing TV and radio and whatnot. And he's
- 2:47got these spitters like everywhere.
- 2:49Everywhere.
- 2:49>> Disgusting.
- 2:50>> And
- 2:51>> accidentally drinking something like
- 2:52that.
- 2:52>> I don't know what the [ __ ]
- 2:54>> I was junior I was in junior year on the
- 2:56bus and I had tea in one and I had
- 2:58spitter in the other and I went like
- 2:59this and put in a mouth. I almost
- 3:01chucked all over the place. It was the
- 3:03nastiest thing that ever happened to me.
- 3:06>> Some [ __ ] was spitting [snorts] into
- 3:07his beer bottle.
- 3:08>> Oh yes.
- 3:10That's Ba.
- 3:11>> You're young.
- 3:12>> Isn't that boa?
- 3:14I reached
- 3:14>> both of these NUTS IN YOUR MOUTH. GOT IT
- 3:17OUT EARLY. GOT IT OUT EARLY. I DIDN'T I
- 3:20DIDN'T EVEN GET A CHANCE TO SAY WHAT'S
- 3:22BOTH.
- 3:22>> I know. The confused look was good
- 3:24enough. I was just like, UH, I'M GETTING
- 3:26[ __ ] [laughter] I KNOW. I KNOW IT'S
- 3:27HAPPENING.
- 3:28>> I'M GLAD YOU guys brought that up,
- 3:29though. Some of these bus rides, and
- 3:31listen, I'm an OHL pretty boy, Ontario
- 3:33Hockey League. We had 9-hour bus rides
- 3:35at the most. These guys out in the dub,
- 3:38boy, were [snorts] 25hour long in
- 3:41[clears throat] the middle of [ __ ]
- 3:42nowhere.
- 3:43>> Start
- 3:44>> to start. I mean, just the start of our
- 3:46road trip from Moojaw, where I played
- 3:48Junior, also my hometown, to Seattle.
- 3:50That was to start the 19-day trip was 26
- 3:53hours. We had to have two bus drivers
- 3:55with us so they could take turns and we
- 3:57just rolled all night long. And then
- 3:59what was even worse back then, I think
- 4:01they fly more now, but Prince George had
- 4:04literally the worst road ever. The
- 4:06closest trip for them was seven hours to
- 4:09Cam
- 4:09>> and Prince George had the worst travel
- 4:11>> and now they had to go to there was no
- 4:13other way for you to get anywhere but
- 4:14the Cam Loops and then they could
- 4:16disperse for
- 4:17>> I played junior hockey there. I did.
- 4:18>> You're damn right.
- 4:19>> Plenty of time for Loie to do his
- 4:20homework on that bus. Lots of [laughter]
- 4:23on that bus.
- 4:23>> I Hey, class of 2017 guys. I got
- 4:26>> No, you did. I love it.
- 4:27>> And No, you you went back to school.
- 4:28>> 40 years old. But let me ask you guys
- 4:30what in the 90s
- 4:31>> Billy Madison
- 4:32>> in the [laughter]
- 4:34>> That'd be kind of fun. In the 90s, what
- 4:37do you do on the bus? All these guys
- 4:38now, if you're playing, you got every
- 4:40kind of device possible. So like what
- 4:42did you guys do?
- 4:44>> What' you do? I had one card. Were you
- 4:46card guy? Like
- 4:47>> I didn't like cards, but there was a lot
- 4:48of cards.
- 4:49>> What' you do
- 4:51in pro?
- 4:51>> Yeah. Not so much in junior for me. Like
- 4:53the guys weren't playing cards. Now, we
- 4:56had some, you know, shitty travel up in
- 4:58Sudbury. The only teams that were close
- 5:01to us were Sous St. Marie was 3 hours
- 5:03away and North Bay. It was like an hour
- 5:05and a half
- 5:06>> and those were battles by the way.
- 5:08>> Like when we played North Bay was nuts.
- 5:10Like they had Brad Brown, Dennis Bond,
- 5:13Steve McLaren. Like they had some dudes
- 5:15>> underrated Steve McLaren down the pipe.
- 5:18Steve and so and the fans would travel
- 5:20>> back and forth. It was those were big
- 5:22games. But on the bus like nobody every
- 5:25now and then you get a Uker game going a
- 5:27little bit and
- 5:29>> that was it. But
- 5:30>> Bob Uker.
- 5:31>> What's that?
- 5:32>> Oh no no no. Rest in peace Bob. By
- 5:34[clears throat] the way
- 5:34>> when you were in Saskatoon, correct me
- 5:36if I'm wrong. Weren't you like pretty
- 5:38smart and scholastic player of the year
- 5:40and stuff?
- 5:43>> Scholastic player of the year.
- 5:44>> Seriously. And correct me. Were you in
- 5:47university?
- 5:50you were in university winning
- 5:51scholastic player of the year against
- 5:52kids that were in high school.
- 5:53>> Well, and I think that was the
- 5:55[clears throat] everybody everybody was
- 5:56in school. I think there's only one or
- 5:58two over ages that you know for that
- 6:00year everybody was in high school and I
- 6:02was I 17 or 8 17 I [snorts] just turned
- 6:0418.
- 6:05>> So Western Hockey League's classic
- 6:07player of the year. Did you win the
- 6:08whole deal?
- 6:08>> No. No, just uh
- 6:09>> just Western League.
- 6:10>> Western League. Yep.
- 6:11>> Hey, when you winer always Chaser's
- 6:13[clears throat] famous thing for you is
- 6:14Twister's smart enough to run the bank.
- 6:16He'd just rather rob it, [laughter]
- 6:18right? And I applied all those skills. I
- 6:20I I applied those skills to my spades
- 6:23game which was very and hearts.
- 6:25>> That's what we played through.
- 6:26>> Spades and hearts.
- 6:27>> Spades and hearts. And it got a little
- 6:29serial. You know, when you're playing
- 6:30the, you know, you're playing in the
- 6:31junior in the the junior ranks when
- 6:33you're making paychecks what 40 or 80
- 6:35bucks maybe if you're
- 6:37>> lucky. 85 bucks.
- 6:38>> When I played as an OA, I think it was
- 6:40300 bucks. I was pretty happy. Hey, when
- 6:42you're on those long road trips and all
- 6:43a sudden some rookie in the front goes
- 6:45back and he's in the bathroom for a long
- 6:47time and you're like, "You're [ __ ]
- 6:49taking a dump."
- 6:50>> We never had rookies that were allowed
- 6:51to.
- 6:51>> I was going to say
- 6:53allowed four kids. No, we put our feet
- 6:56up and they wouldn't be able to get by.
- 6:58>> So, they have to hold it.
- 6:59>> If they went in there, they weren't
- 7:00getting out, right? [laughter]
- 7:01>> Yeah. You blocked the door.
- 7:02>> They were not getting out.
- 7:05Cut the cord. You're in trouble.
- 7:06>> Yeah.
- 7:07>> What about What about high school for
- 7:09you though, Twister? Like when you went
- 7:10to high school, did everybody know who
- 7:12you were? Anybody try to mess with you?
- 7:14>> High school different than it is now.
- 7:16Okay. We every Sheldon and I best
- 7:20friend. We
- 7:21>> every weekend was a party. So you But
- 7:23it's not like parties now. You drove to
- 7:25whoever's mom and dad were out of town
- 7:27of course
- 7:28>> and everybody bring the beer and then
- 7:30you know some the houses made it through
- 7:32some was a house wreck but more often
- 7:34than not it was just destroyed. But our
- 7:36whole weekends were about that. you
- 7:38know, where can you you're putting beer
- 7:40inside the the uh I better not
- 7:43instead of window washing fluid, you've
- 7:45got, you know, your ramen coke or the
- 7:48time you press the button
- 7:49>> in the car.
- 7:50>> Yeah. Well, no, you reroute the hose
- 7:52right to your cup.
- 7:54>> Yeah, that's pretty good.
- 7:55>> Wait, wait, wait, wait. So, you would
- 7:56reroute your hose that went to the
- 7:57windshield wiper fluid, which you
- 7:59desperately need in Canada at all times
- 8:01probably,
- 8:02>> to a little thing that strained out
- 8:03right in the passenger side so you can
- 8:05make a cocktail. That's [ __ ]
- 8:07brilliant.
- 8:07>> And then
- 8:08>> I might do that.
- 8:09>> Told you he was smart.
- 8:10>> So then what?
- 8:11>> I WAS LIKE, HOW DO I PUT A KEG IN MY
- 8:13HEARD THAT BEFORE? That's not normal.
- 8:16>> I put a Oh my god.
- 8:18>> All you have to do is get two of them.
- 8:19There's a little It's a runs on 12 volts
- 8:22little pumps. You have one for your
- 8:23washer. Just Just don't get confused.
- 8:25[laughter]
- 8:27>> The wrong.
- 8:29>> Yeah. You might get gone if you drink
- 8:30that little [ __ ] boy.
- 8:32>> Yeah. You'll be fine.
- 8:33>> It's a different buzz.
- 8:34>> You'll be fine. [laughter] Yeah. Yeah.
- 8:35It hits differently.
- 8:37>> That's happened in Saskatchewan. I
- 8:38assure you.
- 8:39>> Daddy Freeze does make a good wine
- 8:40sweetener. Well, it did anyways back in
- 8:42the day. That's what he didn't junior.
- 8:44>> It's funny though, man. This even going
- 8:46to high school in Windsor. Like they
- 8:48didn't I feel like they didn't have a
- 8:49control.
- 8:50>> Like I was already signed quick at 18
- 8:52and then you stay drafted and all that.
- 8:55I knew I was gone. I didn't even go like
- 8:57I'd come hang out, you know, do
- 8:59whatever, get out of there, skip school,
- 9:02this and that. They didn't really do
- 9:03anything. I did go box in Detroit in
- 9:06this hardcore boxing uh this like little
- 9:09studio that they had. I did that every
- 9:10single morning which is cool. Hardcore.
- 9:13That was that was fun. But going to high
- 9:15school and juniors, I don't know how it
- 9:16is now, but we did whatever the [ __ ] we
- 9:18wanted.
- 9:19>> Whatever we wanted.
- 9:20>> We um
- 9:21>> there was no phones, that's for sure.
- 9:22>> And none. Yep.
- 9:23>> We had a great setup in in Sudbury. You
- 9:25know, there's two areas to live in.
- 9:27There's like old Sudbury which is down
- 9:29near the rink and new Sbury which is
- 9:31like 15 minutes down the road. And Gourd
- 9:35[clears throat] Euan was our educational
- 9:37like he was on the school board but he
- 9:39also would help the guys out and
- 9:40whatnot. And each school had a
- 9:42representative that would help you. And
- 9:44so if you're struggling, you're behind,
- 9:46whatever, they talk to the teachers for
- 9:48you, help tutor you, whatever it was.
- 9:50They really did a good job of trying to
- 9:52set you up for success. Now
- 9:56>> in Sudbury um in Sudbury as small town
- 9:59as it is and and maybe you guys through
- 10:02the small like the hockey team is
- 10:04everything.
- 10:05>> Yeah.
- 10:05>> So you can kind of get away with
- 10:09you know
- 10:10>> show up you know late night the night
- 10:12before I show up for school at like
- 10:1311:00 a.m. and forgive [clears throat]
- 10:15your absences and then you have the
- 10:17spend the lunch hour catching up on on
- 10:19your work and whatnot which was kind of
- 10:21a dick move. We should just just show up
- 10:23to school. Just do what you're supposed
- 10:24to do.
- 10:25>> Cuz the bus probably got in at like 5:00
- 10:27a.m.
- 10:27>> Yeah. [clears throat] Some of the times
- 10:28in like in Sbury like minus freaking 50°
- 10:33>> and you're trying to start your car at
- 10:344:00 a.m. and you got to hurry up, take
- 10:37a nap basically and get to school the
- 10:39next day.
- 10:39>> That was probably one of the wor that
- 10:40the I know people said the uh the old
- 10:42Windsor barn was very difficult for
- 10:44people to go into.
- 10:45>> Oh, it was terrible.
- 10:46>> Terrible. But Sudbury sucked too and so
- 10:49did Sous Marie. So, I love the Sbury
- 10:51Arena. I I love it. It is gritty as
- 10:53hell, man. Saturday, man. It don't get
- 10:56any better than that. Letter letter
- 10:59Kenny preference there.
- 11:01>> Yeah.
- 11:01>> Um, but yeah, so I'll talk about the
- 11:04Windsor rink in a second, but we we had
- 11:06a pretty good system. Then when Glenn
- 11:08Marovski became our head coach, he was
- 11:10like he was adamant about like you got
- 11:13to be at school. If you're out of if
- 11:15you're out of high school and you're and
- 11:16you're going to co you got to be at
- 11:18college or if you don't do college, you
- 11:21got to be at the rink every morning at
- 11:22like 10:00 a.m. called it the breakfast
- 11:23club and you would do a workout, you
- 11:26[clears throat] get on the ice, you do
- 11:27something, you know, just to get going.
- 11:29It was never like a bag or anything
- 11:30because you had practice later on the
- 11:32afternoon,
- 11:33>> get you out of bed and get
- 11:34>> Exactly. You're not going to just lay
- 11:35around party and whatnot.
- 11:38>> So MC was great about that. Um, but the
- 11:40Winds Arena got a funny story about
- 11:42Windsor Arena. We were there playing in
- 11:44on Halloween.
- 11:45>> Uh
- 11:46>> oh boy.
- 11:46>> And
- 11:48>> were you Did you ever play in the old
- 11:50one?
- 11:50>> Yeah. The whole time.
- 11:51>> Remember the end zones straight buff and
- 11:53people were looked down at the net.
- 11:54Well, there was no netting
- 11:56>> before.
- 11:58>> Oh, yeah.
- 11:58>> There was no netting. And so they had a
- 12:00giveaway. I forget what it was. It was
- 12:02these little plastic things
- 12:05on Halloween. And we beat the crap out
- 12:08of them that game. Well, the fans
- 12:09started to go nuts and so they started
- 12:11firing down these things on top of our
- 12:13goalie because they were you could line
- 12:15up. It was like a prison almost where
- 12:16you like line up here and straight down
- 12:18is the goalender. Like there's no like
- 12:20interference. And our goalie was Mike
- 12:23Leonard Doozy.
- 12:24>> Leonard Doozy. Leonard Duzy.
- 12:26>> Great name.
- 12:27>> He was selling pizza now. Leonard
- 12:28>> Dezy.
- 12:29>> Great goalie. Um drafted by the Harford
- 12:31Whalers, I think. Anyways, he started
- 12:33getting pelted by these things and we
- 12:36had a big brawl that went on and then
- 12:37and we're trying to go back to the
- 12:38locker room and that the old ones where
- 12:41you had to walk like there was a lobby
- 12:43like you people could walk.
- 12:45>> Yes. You're walking through people.
- 12:46>> Yeah. And so people were waiting.
- 12:47They're like teeing off on.
- 12:49>> Now I think back of it in my head I'm
- 12:51like these morons were teeing off on
- 12:53like kids smoking 16 17y old.
- 12:58>> It's just blue. It's blue cow as you can
- 12:59get.
- 13:00>> It's just blue cow. That was wild.
- 13:02>> The rink and bush show is legendary,
- 13:04too. The old crushed can. It was built
- 13:06in 57 and it had a a roof almost like
- 13:09Saddle Dome except smaller and
- 13:11>> made the Chicago dressing rooms look
- 13:13like freaking
- 13:14>> unbelievable. Yeah, it was it was not a
- 13:18place that people like other teams
- 13:20didn't like to come in to Moose. The
- 13:21fans were rowdy. Uh there were six feet
- 13:25from Moose's atmosphere.
- 13:26>> There you [laughter] go.
- 13:28>> That's where it is. There you go.
- 13:29>> Located right near what?
- 13:32testicles
- 13:34>> located right near what?
- 13:35>> What? Near my
- 13:37>> nuts. [laughter]
- 13:40God,
- 13:40>> he's too smart for you.
- 13:43>> It's tough when you go try to go
- 13:45intellectually
- 13:47cuz he's like got a face. I don't want
- 13:49to say rock guard around him.
- 13:51>> I was even giving you the out. I didn't
- 13:53even do it.
- 13:54>> He's not He's not there yet. He's not on
- 13:55your level.
- 13:56>> All right. The whole
- 13:57>> So, what are you saying, Loie? Oh, just
- 13:59that uh the old crushed can was quite a
- 14:01rink back in the day. They they tore it
- 14:03down and
- 14:03>> freezing cold.
- 14:04>> Oh my god, it was so cold. Especially on
- 14:08practice days. Like when it's minus 50°
- 14:11outside, you can barely start your car.
- 14:13Like we've got hoodies and stuff under
- 14:15our hockey equipment.
- 14:16>> But once everybody got in the rink and
- 14:18it was game night, it was a different
- 14:20story. And you got the, you know, you
- 14:21got going and you could the energy and
- 14:23everything else heated up. It was Moo
- 14:25was a cold. You you guys had to walk
- 14:27uphill to the rink and walk uphill to
- 14:29get home.
- 14:30>> Both ways. Both ways.
- 14:31>> But how about Hull Hull Olympics ring?
- 14:33Robert
- 14:35smoking dum.
- 14:38>> It was a cloud of smoke over the ring.
- 14:41It's crazy.
- 14:42>> I remember going to watch Luke Robbitai
- 14:44and there was another guy named Ge Ruo
- 14:45back at the time. They were the two top
- 14:47scorers in the Quebec League. We had the
- 14:49Ottawa 67s and then every now and then
- 14:51my dad would take us to the Hull
- 14:52Olympics game and we're like this is
- 14:54pretty cool. You know, one at first we
- 14:56didn't even know they existed because
- 14:58we're little kids and then we go over
- 14:59there and yeah, you'd sit down your seat
- 15:02and look up and the the standing room
- 15:04would be like one giant ring of smoke.
- 15:06>> Daddy, it's a fire.
- 15:07>> It's unreal.
- 15:09>> Those fans would get wild.
- 15:11>> It was a good crowd.
- 15:12>> Great. Wild. Then after we get to
- 15:13Shalomar Shalomar Shalomar
- 15:17Street
- 15:19Place, what was that?
- 15:19>> The whole street was covered. I can't
- 15:22remember. It was crazy. That thing was
- 15:24awesome.
- 15:25>> That thing was beat down. I remember
- 15:26when my parents first split up the first
- 15:28time we moved to Saskatoon and uh the
- 15:31barn that 84 85 Wendell Clark I think uh
- 15:35was pretty close to getting drafted. I
- 15:37think he got drafted at the end of that
- 15:38year, first overall. But uh it was
- 15:41crazy. This like Zas and the Saskatoon
- 15:43boys, they were just absolute.
- 15:46>> These kids now, let me tell you, all you
- 15:47parents out there,
- 15:48>> six, seven, eight tough guys. Like tough
- 15:50guys.
- 15:51>> Like killers.
- 15:52>> Killers on one team.
- 15:53>> You parents out there now, which a lot
- 15:55of people that listen to this podcast
- 15:56have kids that are playing. You got a
- 15:58pretty goddamn good. Even if you're in
- 16:00St. Louis that are listening right now,
- 16:02these rings are gigantic. They're
- 16:03beautiful. Growing up in St. Louis, like
- 16:05we would go,
- 16:06>> the ven form. Yeah, but it's still it's
- 16:09not outdoors. It builds character.
- 16:12>> The Afton kids are tough.
- 16:13>> They're tough. We love Afton.
- 16:15>> There was there was rings in including
- 16:18Kirkwood and Cahokia and whatnot that
- 16:20were outdoor and you had 6:00 games in
- 16:23the morning, 7:00 games in the morning.
- 16:24>> Granite City
- 16:25>> and Granite City, you have to run
- 16:27outside and you're freezing cold getting
- 16:29these kids have a pretty good and I feel
- 16:30like, you know, we we all kind of had
- 16:32something to do with that. Helping out,
- 16:34playing, building up hockey in St.
- 16:36Louis. Now these kids are carried in
- 16:38like pharaohs. [laughter] They got
- 16:40heated seats. They got massage rolling.
- 16:45[laughter] And I watch it and I watch it
- 16:47rolling.
- 16:47>> I watch it on these rinks and I'm like
- 16:49good for good. We want that. We want
- 16:51that. Like you guys, you know, that's
- 16:53what that's what you get. You know, we
- 16:54had a lot of guys come out in St. Louis.
- 16:55We got a lot of people that live here.
- 16:57We got a lot of people building up
- 16:58hockey in St. Louis. So the rinks are so
- 17:00much nicer. How are your billet
- 17:03families?
- 17:05Oh, well,
- 17:06>> can we explain what it is first to
- 17:07people? I guess maybe they don't know
- 17:08what it is. A bill family is when you
- 17:09leave town early like we all did and you
- 17:12have to go stay with a family that the
- 17:13team pays for. Not much money, by the
- 17:15way. And they vet them, but sometimes
- 17:18they don't vet them good enough cuz
- 17:19we've heard horror stories. So, that's
- 17:22what a billet family is. A lot of them
- 17:23are unbelievable that we still talk to
- 17:25to this day, but some of them were
- 17:27goofy. How were yours?
- 17:28>> My billet My first billet family, I was
- 17:30a senior in high school. I moved to May
- 17:32not North Dakota for Moo to play in the
- 17:34only Americanbased team in the
- 17:36Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.
- 17:38>> And the Billets didn't get paid
- 17:40anything. They were all 100% volunteer.
- 17:43So, the nice part was they all had some
- 17:45money. So, you didn't you weren't going
- 17:47into a place. I lived with the billet uh
- 17:50uh the billet coordinator. Uh she's not
- 17:52with us anymore. Rest in peace, Jod. She
- 17:54was amazing. She completely changed the
- 17:56trajectory of who I was as a person.
- 17:58>> Oh, good.
- 18:00gave me the discipline that my parents
- 18:02didn't seem to be able to hold on me.
- 18:04They were kind of going through their
- 18:05thing and I was kind of the third one. I
- 18:07had two older sisters so I was getting
- 18:09away with bloody murder [snorts] and I
- 18:11went down to Minot thinking I thought I
- 18:13was going to come back and play AAA but
- 18:14I ended up making the team out of
- 18:16training camp and she was just going to
- 18:18take me for the month cuz they weren't
- 18:19going to take anybody and then I just
- 18:20ended up falling like right with the
- 18:22family and I lived there for it was
- 18:24unbelievable.
- 18:25>> Yeah. I I I you know I probably wouldn't
- 18:27be where I'm at today from a hockey
- 18:28standpoint. Did you take care of them?
- 18:30Like tickets?
- 18:31>> Yeah. They always came to Minneapolis
- 18:32when we played the the Wild. Um,
- 18:35>> that's all they wanted, man.
- 18:36>> And every time I drive home in the
- 18:38summer and drive back, I always stop in
- 18:39for have the she made sweet or uh cheese
- 18:42potatoes with the hash browns and the
- 18:45mayonnaise mix and all that. They were
- 18:47so good.
- 18:47>> I don't know if that sounds that good,
- 18:48but
- 18:50>> but when you don't when you don't know
- 18:51any better,
- 18:53>> the cheesy potato dish casserole is one
- 18:55of the best dishes on planet Earth.
- 18:56>> Yeah. No, I get that.
- 18:58And then and then all over
- 19:02[laughter]
- 19:05it. And then I live when my last two
- 19:08years in Western Hockey League as a
- 19:0919-year-old rookie and an overage. I
- 19:11live with Dave Low, the man. Love you.
- 19:13>> Okay. Little shout out right there,
- 19:15baby. Davy boy. What's up?
- 19:16>> Did you Did you do any of that villing?
- 19:18>> I did. I had two French families. Great
- 19:20people.
- 19:20>> That's why you speak French so well.
- 19:22>> Um I French toast, French fries.
- 19:25[laughter]
- 19:25>> I can still French kiss. But you do kiss
- 19:27that way.
- 19:28>> Yeah, that's Oh, I do.
- 19:29>> He's an excellent kisser.
- 19:30>> No, my my families were great.
- 19:31[laughter]
- 19:32>> Just speaking from experience.
- 19:34>> We were roommates for
- 19:36>> We'll get into that, too, by the way.
- 19:38[laughter]
- 19:39>> Oh, god. Sorry. I'm sorry.
- 19:40>> What do you got going?
- 19:41>> What is that?
- 19:43>> Yeah. Music.
- 19:45>> Who sings that song?
- 19:46>> That's uh No.
- 19:48>> Do the Imagine Dragons. Do you like
- 19:50Imagine Dragons?
- 19:51>> I love the Imagine Dragons.
- 19:52>> Imagine Dragon bees nuts. YOUR
- 19:54[laughter] FACE.
- 19:57YOU CAN'T FALL FOR IT ANYMORE.
- 19:59>> My god,
- 20:00>> you can't do it. God, [laughter]
- 20:02>> we are. This is a very mature podcast.
- 20:05Imagine these [laughter] one, just so
- 20:07you know.
- 20:08>> Was that another level?
- 20:09>> 10 years.
- 20:11>> Oh my god.
- 20:12>> Twister, how are your villains?
- 20:13>> My billings were wonderful.
- 20:15>> Well, Carrie Clark and I lived together.
- 20:19>> Clark and I lived together.
- 20:20>> That's called a halfway house.
- 20:21>> It was [laughter] pretty much It was a
- 20:23halfway house. It was. And they were
- 20:25really good to us. I mean, they didn't
- 20:27get paid near enough money to feed us
- 20:29two animals.
- 20:29>> No way.
- 20:30>> And they were they were wonderful. We
- 20:32had uh in every way,
- 20:34>> food, everything.
- 20:35>> Oh, everything. Every They were great.
- 20:37>> Shark almost end Craig Darby's life.
- 20:40>> Oh yeah.
- 20:40>> In our first game in Freddy against
- 20:42Portland, he came and pushed Darbs from
- 20:45like in front. There was a guy behind
- 20:47Darbs, flipped him, crunched his neck
- 20:49off the boards, and just stood there. I
- 20:51don't think he got a penalty. It was a
- 20:52scrum. It was
- 20:53>> Clark. He did.
- 20:53>> Yeah. Oh, it was awesome. I was on the
- 20:55bench. I was like, "Holy [ __ ] that was
- 20:56crazy."
- 20:57>> He always used to do the moonwalk.
- 20:58>> Oh, when he when he scored. Oh, he was
- 21:00and he was right [clears throat] after
- 21:01Three Amigos. That was his that was his
- 21:04thing.
- 21:04>> And And [laughter]
- 21:06he would do the one side, two side. Oh,
- 21:08god.
- 21:09>> I like that.
- 21:10>> He was a piece of character.
- 21:11>> He was a piece.
- 21:12>> Are there more characters back then than
- 21:14now?
- 21:14>> Way more. I know.
- 21:15>> Way more characters back then. Guys were
- 21:17wild, man.
- 21:18>> Well, let's let's get the reason why.
- 21:20The whole bus ride thing. What do you
- 21:23get from a from the long bus rides? You
- 21:26get a bunch of cramped up characters who
- 21:28are at each other's throats, but you
- 21:30find a way to make it work. You're
- 21:32playing cards, spades, uker,
- 21:35>> crib. You're doing whatever you're
- 21:37doing.
- 21:38>> You're doing it for hours and hours on
- 21:40end. You build a rapport. You build a
- 21:42camaraderie.
- 21:43>> I feel like I'm afraid to
- 21:46>> now everything is on video now.
- 21:49>> Totally.
- 21:49>> You know, but
- 21:50>> there's no video on the bus.
- 21:51>> No, no. No, I'm talking about just let's
- 21:52get outside the bus for a second. Guys
- 21:54weren't afraid to beat
- 21:55>> I like the bus.
- 21:56>> I like the bus, too. But nobody else
- 21:59sees what's going on on the bus except
- 22:01for the guys on the bus. So like Sharky
- 22:03doing the moonwalk straight down center
- 22:04ice and then doing the three amigos.
- 22:07Like that's character. Like it's it's
- 22:10personality. It's,
- 22:11>> you know, you don't see a lot of that.
- 22:13But that that personality and the
- 22:14confidence to do that's built though
- 22:16going back to the dressing room. You can
- 22:18spend seven, eight hours a day with the
- 22:19same character. You're going to have a
- 22:21different look at him.
- 22:22>> Yeah.
- 22:22>> And you you might even hate them more
- 22:24than you would, but you'll play harder
- 22:26for them on the ice because you guys are
- 22:28a team. I think that baton hasn't been
- 22:30passed. I'm happy that it's not for
- 22:32them, but it's you got to you got to
- 22:34find another area to perform in. Find
- 22:35another arena to play that game.
- 22:38>> That's all I got to say.
- 22:40>> What was it? Who scared you the most
- 22:42fighting? Who caught Okay, fine. I knew
- 22:44that was question was going to be awful
- 22:45that way. No, no, no. Let me rephrase it
- 22:46then.
- 22:47>> Yeah, he scared everybody.
- 22:48>> I know he did. [laughter] He created me.
- 22:50Certainly. Him and Chaser created me. I
- 22:52know.
- 22:53>> Was a wild night.
- 22:54>> Who caught you the hardest? Can I give
- 22:56you a couple?
- 22:57>> Sure.
- 22:58>> Was it Todd Yuing? Rest in peace. We
- 23:00love by the way. Was it Francois Laroo
- 23:04when you broke off of him and came back?
- 23:06>> I thought No, [clears throat] that
- 23:06wasn't that was
- 23:07>> cuz he had the [ __ ] [ __ ] on his hands
- 23:09>> and he cut and cut me. But that didn't
- 23:11hurt. But you lost your mind.
- 23:13>> I was livid about it. It was over
- 23:15Snuggles.
- 23:16>> Who caught you? Oh, Jim McKenzie got you
- 23:18one time.
- 23:19>> Give me back. But those are successional
- 23:22punches where you
- 23:23>> I'll tell you what punching the head
- 23:24contrated
- 23:29heavyweights for in the history of the
- 23:31game.
- 23:32>> And I'm not saying little. I'm saying
- 23:34like
- 23:34>> like a water buffalo. [laughter]
- 23:35>> He's got other things that were big,
- 23:36too.
- 23:37>> I mean, he is something else.
- 23:38>> He was tough and just go look at some of
- 23:41his fights. He fought everybody and he
- 23:43just left and right.
- 23:44>> Left and right.
- 23:46You think Lo's got a big head? Jimmy
- 23:48Max's got another half a size sitting on
- 23:50top of his head.
- 23:50>> He's the sweetest human being in the
- 23:51world. Jimmy,
- 23:53>> sweetest human being in the world.
- 23:54>> I don't know.
- 23:55>> Fight Jerry Fleming. Do you remember
- 23:57playing against somebody?
- 23:58>> I did.
- 23:59>> He's huge.
- 23:59>> It didn't work well.
- 24:00>> Yeah,
- 24:01>> he's
- 24:02like you.
- 24:03>> No, 65.
- 24:05>> He's like 66 or 67.
- 24:06>> Yeah, he's coaching I think somewhere
- 24:07now. He was huge.
- 24:08>> Huge. I don't think he liked to
- 24:10fighting. No.
- 24:10>> No, I don't think he I got out one night
- 24:11with him and me, him, and Brian Curran
- 24:14were out one night just
- 24:15>> Happy Feet.
- 24:15>> Yeah. Oh, shackles. [laughter]
- 24:19>> Happy Feet.
- 24:20>> We call him Shackles cuz he skated like
- 24:21he had shackles. He didn't like that.
- 24:24But he pinned me over the boards one
- 24:26night in Portland and fed me a beating
- 24:27right in front of Barry Trotz who was
- 24:28the head coach.
- 24:30>> Barry. Yeah. Cuz I call him shackles and
- 24:31I wouldn't let off the gas. And then a
- 24:34scrum started and I he found me in the
- 24:37scrum and I I was like, I'm [ __ ] here.
- 24:40I'm done now. And he was a big B.
- 24:42>> He was a big man. He had the happiest
- 24:44feet in the game, though.
- 24:46>> Isn't it weird though? There's some guys
- 24:47that uh never you don't even know their
- 24:49name that much and didn't really even
- 24:51even play in the American League cuz you
- 24:52know the real heavyweights in American
- 24:54League from Morassi to [ __ ] even like
- 24:57uh
- 24:58>> Scroy. You're damn right to uh Mc or uh
- 25:02McLaren. McIntyre played a little bit in
- 25:04the in the NHL. Not too too much. Um but
- 25:06you there were so many so many tough
- 25:08tough guys. But there's a lot of tough
- 25:10guys and juniors, man, that were killers
- 25:13and they just couldn't figure it out and
- 25:15they didn't. And then all a sudden,
- 25:17boom, they're getting into construction
- 25:18or whatever. But god, were they tough
- 25:20and no one even talks about them, but we
- 25:22had to deal with them. You know what I
- 25:23mean?
- 25:24>> Crazy.
- 25:25>> We talked a little bit the last time or
- 25:27a couple times ago about Donald
- 25:28Brashier, too. I fought him two or three
- 25:30times and man, he was just so strong and
- 25:32he would he would pull on you and pull
- 25:34on you and then he just left pull pull
- 25:37upper [laughter]
- 25:37cut. I watched I watched a fight between
- 25:39him and and George The Rock and
- 25:41[clears throat] they both knocked each
- 25:43other out in the same fight, got up and
- 25:46it was one of the craziest.
- 25:47>> Georgie posted that the other day with
- 25:49Twister on it, too.
- 25:50>> Twister I Yeah, we I sent that to you
- 25:52guys. It's uh I didn't I didn't agree
- 25:54with his list at all in the order.
- 25:55>> He had prob
- 25:58Twister at like 10 on my list.
- 25:59>> I think he was three or four.
- 26:01>> Was that four?
- 26:03guys on that list that list like I
- 26:05probably wouldn't Godard was tough but I
- 26:07probably would have had him on that
- 26:08list.
- 26:11>> Go watch my fight with God.
- 26:12>> I watched your fight with [ __ ] I was
- 26:13going to try to post it the other day.
- 26:15You you beat the [ __ ] out of um Jordan
- 26:18Tutu. It popped up the other day. God,
- 26:20you start
- 26:21>> He didn't. DUDE, YOU JUSTOP
- 26:24CAME IN. I I got the [ __ ] off like the
- 26:27major seal. Oh,
- 26:29>> he smoked me. Like I I I GOT MY HAND AND
- 26:31I STOOD UP and he threw his gloves in my
- 26:33face and
- 26:34>> he tried to get you off the bat
- 26:35>> and I was like I grabbed him. I'm like,
- 26:37"Is this really happening? Do I really
- 26:39have free reign to ruin this guy's
- 26:41face?" And it was good.
- 26:42>> I got to give Goddard though a shout
- 26:44out. He was so tough.
- 26:47>> We're talking about tough, but I don't
- 26:50know if all the guys in a reputation. So
- 26:54it's weird, right? Because you got some
- 26:56guys that that Goddard was probably
- 26:57tougher than some of the bigger names
- 26:59that we'll talk about.
- 27:00>> But some guys who are so tough don't
- 27:02ever get the name.
- 27:04>> I agree.
- 27:04>> They don't get the respect. Even though
- 27:06they beat up the guys who were like,
- 27:07"Whoa, look out for this guy. Goddard
- 27:09maybe beat up two or three of those
- 27:10guys." Same thing happens to go scorers.
- 27:12You know, they
- 27:13>> Yeah, that's true.
- 27:14>> They score so many goals [laughter] in.
- 27:16>> There's some guys that don't get enough
- 27:17credit goal scorers.
- 27:18>> Well, they make a lot of money. They're
- 27:20>> There's There it is. Like, you're still
- 27:21making money,
- 27:22>> but it's just weird how that works,
- 27:23right? Because there's guys from every
- 27:25era of hockey that is like super tough
- 27:29where like it's like underground people
- 27:31know don't don't [ __ ] with that guy. But
- 27:33like above ground people like oh who's
- 27:35that guy? I he doesn't seem all that
- 27:36tough.
- 27:37>> That difference making 500 and a million
- 27:40back in the day.
- 27:41>> Yeah. These guys are all getting paid
- 27:43now. Big time money.
- 27:44>> Weird how that is. Like Goddard's an
- 27:46example. You know I think Eric Karens is
- 27:48an example too.
- 27:50>> He was tough as [ __ ] Big dude. They be
- 27:52like, "Oh, well, he's 6'5 or 6'6. He
- 27:54should be tough."
- 27:55>> Big D, man.
- 27:56>> He got caught by Craig Ruby one time.
- 27:57Boy,
- 27:58>> that's that's another guy who's tough as
- 28:00nails, too.
- 28:02>> Anybody anybody can play a thousand
- 28:04games in the league.
- 28:05>> Yeah.
- 28:06>> And play that role.
- 28:08>> Yep.
- 28:08>> It's
- 28:09>> not many.
- 28:10>> It's incredible.
- 28:11>> Not many. I want to say there's four
- 28:13there's four. Tyomi's got the most
- 28:14fighting majors in NHL history. It's
- 28:16like 339 or something. And then there's
- 28:19I think Tiger Williams. Brashier might
- 28:21be up in there.
- 28:22>> Shamco might be up there.
- 28:24>> I don't know if these there's only I
- 28:25think four guys with north of 300
- 28:27fights, but that's just incredible. Like
- 28:30I I think I had about 90 any
- 28:31>> Tim Hunter actually. I couldn't imagine
- 28:33having 300.
- 28:35>> Yeah. All of them against triple that
- 28:36amount. You know what I mean? Tim Hunter
- 28:38who doesn't isn't like considered a
- 28:40heavy heavy but he was a killer.
- 28:42>> His nose was a heavyweight.
- 28:44>> Oh my [laughter]
- 28:46you watched it. You watch it on channel
- 28:49two and you and you want to flip, you
- 28:50know, between commercials and his nose
- 28:52on channel 4. [laughter]
- 28:55>> Dave Brown, Philadelphia. Did you
- 28:58boy
- 29:00that's another channel Dave Brown?
- 29:03>> What? No.
- 29:04>> Oh, that's interesting.
- 29:05>> So, he was
- 29:06>> that guy's by the way. Not really. Not
- 29:09really. He's a wonderful man. I love
- 29:10Dave Brown. He's a guy. He's a greatest
- 29:13dude. But he was crazy. Yeah, you he's a
- 29:16big talked about long lanky man.
- 29:18>> Lefty little short sleeve on his jersey
- 29:20>> and he's on task.
- 29:22>> He talked People talk about Dave Brown
- 29:24like they talk about Twister.
- 29:25>> Yeah.
- 29:25>> Oh yeah.
- 29:25>> Brownie Brown was one of the guys in
- 29:29that in that era. And my first year that
- 29:32I got called up, Brian Sutter was the
- 29:34coach and we were playing Philly and I'm
- 29:36playing and of course this is like my
- 29:39second or third game. So I'm doing my I
- 29:41still to the all through my career get
- 29:43half that center line and Dave and I
- 29:45bumped a couple times and then we went
- 29:47both went over to like where the penalty
- 29:49box in the old bar and started
- 29:50stretching talking to each other and it
- 29:52was casual talk cuz I know Brownie and
- 29:54he knows me but you know basically we're
- 29:56going to get busy. Brian pulled me out
- 29:57of the game
- 29:58>> and I think it was probably the best
- 30:00thing for me at that point because I I
- 30:02didn't have nowhere near the experience
- 30:04that Dave had
- 30:05>> and he could have fed me my lunch and
- 30:06really changed my career. So I give or
- 30:08or it made it done the other way. Who
- 30:10knows? But I think at that point was
- 30:12probably the right thing to do.
- 30:13>> He played in Saskatoon, too, didn't he?
- 30:14In the Western League.
- 30:15>> Okay. Saskatoon had all at the same
- 30:17time.
- 30:18>> Joey Kosher, Wendell Clark, Dave Brown.
- 30:22>> Oh, yeah. Yeah.
- 30:23>> Dave Stanley or Bri.
- 30:26Yeah. Uh,
- 30:29uh, freaking Stanley.
- 30:31>> I know. I forget his first name, too.
- 30:32>> Yeah, I just did. Yeah. And there was
- 30:35>> Kevin Stanley. No,
- 30:36>> it'll come to me in a second. And they
- 30:38were that was that was a team we came up
- 30:40in the heels of. So th those guys had I
- 30:43mean Wendell was running people over in
- 30:46junior and all that confidence that he
- 30:48gained with those other guys in the box
- 30:49took it to the took it.
- 30:50>> Can we just can we talk about Wendell
- 30:52for a minute because when Wendell Clark
- 30:54got drafted the Toronto Maple Leafs.
- 30:56>> You [clears throat] I was I was I'm
- 30:58obviously younger than Wendell
- 30:59>> first.
- 31:00>> First overall and he would got drafted
- 31:02as a defenseman and never played one
- 31:04shift in the NHL as a defenseman. He got
- 31:06played left wing.
- 31:07>> Not only did he get drafted as
- 31:08defenseman, he won defenseman of the
- 31:10year in the CHL.
- 31:12>> Yeah. And they said, "No, no, no.
- 31:13>> He's the best defenseman in the in the
- 31:15entire CHL." And they dropped him like,
- 31:17"Hey, you want to play rightwing?"
- 31:19>> Sure. [laughter]
- 31:20>> But this guy came in and
- 31:22>> what was when 5'11?
- 31:25>> Is that being generous even?
- 31:26>> Probably being generous.
- 31:27>> And he was like 185 pounds machine.
- 31:29>> Yeah. 185 to 200 depending on the day.
- 31:32depending on the year that whatever when
- 31:34he first came in at 18 185 probably
- 31:37>> and being in Ottawa like the senators
- 31:39weren't around then. So we had the
- 31:41Montreal Canadians and Toronto Maple
- 31:42Leafs hockey night in Canada on the
- 31:44English Channel and you know the
- 31:46Montreal Canadians on the French
- 31:47channel. I remember watching Wendell
- 31:49Clark come into the league and just
- 31:52dismantling the league, running guys
- 31:55over like murdering guys with body
- 31:57checks. That wrist shot was a weapon.
- 32:00scored goals and then he fought guy he
- 32:02fought proby. I don't have like
- 32:04>> Well, he had no business fighting Bob
- 32:07>> Punch like it watching just him fight
- 32:10>> just the R like the craziness in him and
- 32:13and where he would throw those from
- 32:16>> Los
- 32:18No fear. There was no fear in threw
- 32:21down.
- 32:21>> He was he was better knock right down.
- 32:23That's what I'm trying to right down the
- 32:25pipe. Either he had caught with your
- 32:27head down. It's over.
- 32:28>> He knocked out Bruce Bell in
- 32:31>> Yes. And did he break his leg or
- 32:33something too?
- 32:33>> Then he knocked out Dave Mackey with a
- 32:35left hook and Mackey I was on Don Cher's
- 32:38rocket when I was a kid and I watched
- 32:40all
- 32:41>> I love you Don Cherry. I love you to
- 32:43death.
- 32:44>> Someone should ask Don Cherry
- 32:46>> to just sign off on it and come up with
- 32:48like now now it' be digital obviously
- 32:50but you could easily [clears throat] go
- 32:51to Netflix and go every year we're going
- 32:52to do a Don Cherry series.
- 32:54>> Oh my god.
- 32:54>> You know that'd be kind of cool.
- 32:55>> I got obsessed with that. That's how I
- 32:57got
- 32:57>> Well, you're not going to get Don Mlan
- 32:58with him.
- 32:59>> Two good guys.
- 33:00>> Ron Mlan. That's right.
- 33:01>> He's a nice guy. He just is
- 33:04>> Daryl Stanley.
- 33:05>> Daryl Stanley. That's it.
- 33:06>> Daryl Stanley. Who the tough guy was?
- 33:08>> He want still there. It just takes a
- 33:10little bit to get started. Some
- 33:11>> Well, they you hear what happened in
- 33:12Canada now? They're not doing Hockey
- 33:14Night Canada doing cricket. [laughter]
- 33:16Is that what I heard
- 33:16>> on CBC? So, Hockey Night in Canada moved
- 33:19from CBC to a different channel. They're
- 33:21not calling it Hockey Night Canada
- 33:23anymore, which is
- 33:24>> so blasphemy. blast me. Thank you.
- 33:26>> It's like the old TSN.
- 33:27>> They have cricket on there now.
- 33:28>> Well, they're calling, aren't they?
- 33:30Hockey night with Trump. I think he
- 33:31tried to change it. [laughter] Hockey
- 33:33>> night
- 33:35TSN still.
- 33:36>> Hockey night in US in Canada.
- 33:38>> It's Yeah, it's changed.
- 33:41>> Yeah, they are. I see it every day on
- 33:42Twitter, man.
- 33:43>> He's no more Howie Wanganger. Used to be
- 33:46such an awesome thing that you know
- 33:47>> remember Don used to sharp so many
- 33:49people.
- 33:49>> Hockey night. Hockey night Canada
- 33:52>> Maple Leaf Gardens. You go in and play
- 33:53the Leafs. Who's a little puck that used
- 33:55to teach?
- 33:55>> Peter Puck.
- 33:57>> With Howie Mer.
- 33:58>> Yes. Howie [laughter]
- 33:59Howie Mer.
- 34:00>> And then Howie Wanger was his was
- 34:02>> what?
- 34:03>> Howie Wanganger. He was catching on of
- 34:04Howie and he was doing camps all around
- 34:07Canada. I think people got got Wanganger
- 34:09and Meeker mixed up for some reason.
- 34:12[laughter]
- 34:14>> Naturally.
- 34:15>> I mean Iique
- 34:19Wang to me. How did
- 34:20>> I I don't know.
- 34:21>> I tell you what, man. I grew up watching
- 34:23because we didn't have any besides the
- 34:24blues. You can't watch anything in, you
- 34:26know, way out in Pacific, Missouri. But
- 34:28my dad would get me Rockam Sakum tapes.
- 34:31>> Well, you didn't get cable out there,
- 34:32did you?
- 34:32>> No,
- 34:33>> we didn't cable. [laughter]
- 34:36>> No, we didn't. When I was young, I
- 34:37didn't [ __ ] cable. I remember trying to
- 34:39go through the channels and there was
- 34:40one channel that was squibbly with like
- 34:42a girl and I think it was like a a porn
- 34:45channel maybe
- 34:46>> or like a romant
- 34:50if it's a porn channel you should be
- 34:52able to tell. Yeah.
- 34:53>> No, cuz it was blocked out. It was
- 34:55scribbly. It was scribbly and maybe it
- 34:57was like a romance whatever it was and
- 34:58I'd be like what's going on here and my
- 35:01mom would come in.
- 35:03[laughter]
- 35:04She
- 35:04>> what are you watching? I go nothing.
- 35:05>> You had a remote porn. remote.
- 35:07>> Imagine doing that now and finding the
- 35:10driply station and then you got to jump
- 35:12up and run over to the
- 35:14>> Hey, [laughter]
- 35:15I'll tell you I I will say this and I
- 35:16don't have this clipped off, but it's
- 35:17fine. But my my billet family in Windsor
- 35:20was 75 years old.
- 35:22>> They would watch me sleep
- 35:24>> and they never had a
- 35:26>> Did they hold your hand?
- 35:27>> Kind of. They never had like a son. They
- 35:29had five daughters. They were all out of
- 35:31the house, just so you know. And uh I
- 35:33came in like a psychopath. My parents
- 35:35are lenient as hell. They were very
- 35:37disciplined. They were very And I was
- 35:39like, "Okay." But they had cable
- 35:42downstairs and I don't think they
- 35:44realized
- 35:45>> they had the spanked vision.
- 35:46>> I don't [laughter] think his lotion
- 35:51towels
- 35:52>> vivid TV on that that they paid for
- 35:55vivid.
- 35:56>> And I'm down there the whole time like
- 35:58Cam's downstairs all the time.
- 35:59>> Why is Cam SO DEHYDRATED? EVERY TIME
- 36:01THEY'D WALK DOWN, THEY'D BE SLOW cuz
- 36:03they were 75 years old and THEY LIKE
- 36:04THIS DONE. I'M LIKE, "AH, WE'RE COMING
- 36:06DOWN, CAM. Clean up."
- 36:09>> Jesus Christ. Where's They had a camera
- 36:12on them. [laughter]
- 36:14>> They didn't know where technology was.
- 36:16>> WORING ABOUT YOU BEING DOWNSTAIRS
- 36:17LOOKING AT THEIR WATER BILL.
- 36:19>> They did it on purpose. Did you flip it
- 36:21over to that beautiful painting with the
- 36:24big furry head guy, Bob Ross?
- 36:26>> Yeah. Rosy boy.
- 36:28>> That's who you flipped it to, right? You
- 36:29haven't sold any of his paintings.
- 36:30They're worth a billion.
- 36:31>> That's not my paintbrush in your hands.
- 36:32>> So Bob Ross, I remember my dad would
- 36:35watch Bob Ross and like
- 36:36>> fantastic.
- 36:37>> And I hated it, right? I'm like,
- 36:39>> this is terri. I HATE THAT. AND you're
- 36:42like, ah,
- 36:43>> five minutes in
- 36:45>> I like Bob Ross.
- 36:46>> Beautiful.
- 36:48>> Beautiful man.
- 36:49>> He's got some things.
- 36:51>> Watch the documentary.
- 36:53>> The idea. [laughter]
- 36:55His paintings are still in a secure area
- 36:57that he hasn't sold. Like he's got like
- 37:00literally hundreds of millions of
- 37:01dollar. I know. But his like family, no
- 37:03one.
- 37:04>> Just give us the tip of the ice.
- 37:05>> Longer hair.
- 37:06>> I think he sniffed around a little bit
- 37:07and he did a couple things.
- 37:09>> He got a little shady.
- 37:10>> Yeah, I think
- 37:11>> Bob had a uh wasn't just happy little
- 37:13trees
- 37:15>> and the happy mountain in the back.
- 37:16>> Happy little trees with the stream here.
- 37:18Look at the flow of the river.
- 37:20[laughter]
- 37:21Somebody spends a lot of time uh
- 37:24watching a little Bob Ross.
- 37:25>> I love Bob Ross. So do I.
- 37:27>> Early in the morning with the PJs off.
- 37:31>> I wish I knew how to paint.
- 37:32>> This episode's gone straight down the
- 37:34toilet.
- 37:34>> Yeah. Buckle it up, Cam. [laughter]
- 37:37>> So [snorts] uh so we go back to the
- 37:39billet families cuz I don't know if Did
- 37:41you talk Did you talk about your blet?
- 37:44You didn't really talk about your
- 37:44>> We kind of got to it. It was two
- 37:46families. They were very very nice.
- 37:47>> Yeah. Um, but it was it was a good
- 37:50experience. That's why I learned about
- 37:51poutine.
- 37:52>> Oh, yeah.
- 37:52>> Pontang. No, not that one.
- 37:54>> Not that too. That too though.
- 37:56>> I remember eating that first [ __ ]
- 37:57learning about that.
- 37:58>> But poutine punani in gravy.
- 38:00>> Punani.
- 38:01>> Uh, if you don't put ketchup on your
- 38:03poutine, you're not eating it right.
- 38:05>> Really?
- 38:05>> Yes. No one ever.
- 38:07>> I've never heard no one ever.
- 38:08>> I hung out with a girl one time and she
- 38:10ate poutine and it turned me off.
- 38:12>> You've never?
- 38:13>> Yeah, cuz I knew she's have to take a
- 38:14dump and like
- 38:15>> because she used her fingers. Trust me,
- 38:17>> you open their mouth open. I'm like
- 38:22mouth open.
- 38:22>> Are we going to have like private
- 38:24sidebars? You know, okay. Coming from
- 38:26you. Coming from [laughter] you.
- 38:28>> We're all over the place. It doesn't
- 38:29matter. We entertain the people.
- 38:31>> My first year I got to Sbury and uh my
- 38:34brother was the overager, so he had an
- 38:36apartment.
- 38:38>> Oh, sorry. [laughter]

- 40:35did he do?
- 40:35>> What did they do to you, Jamie?
- 40:37[laughter] There are some Sean River
- 40:39stories that are out there, I tell you.
- 40:40>> Doesn't see him the other night.
- 40:42>> Yeah. Yeah. He He loves you guys.
- 40:44>> The people in the chat room want to hear
- 40:45it.

- 40:48right now. [laughter]
- 40:49>> 401.
- 40:50>> Yeah.
- 40:52>> No, it's really not that great. But um I
- 40:55what I was going to say is I had the
- 40:56pleasure of playing with my brother on
- 40:57the same team. That was
- 40:59>> just cool [ __ ]
- 40:59>> It was cool as [ __ ] He he he went to
- 41:02college, played two years at St.
- 41:03Lawrence University. They won the ECAC
- 41:05like two years in a row and then he's
- 41:07not a big guy. You guys have met my
- 41:08brother. He's a smaller guy. He played
- 41:09defense in an era that nobody who was 5
- 41:12foot n played defense pretty much.
- 41:14>> Yep.
- 41:15>> Being generous for him, huh?
- 41:16>> Uh maybe 5'8. Yeah. Um so they said you
- 41:19got to go play junior hockey to show
- 41:20that you could be play in a tough
- 41:22league. So he had already been drafted
- 41:24by the Sbury Wolves. So he left college,
- 41:26went played uh in Sbury, put up 80
- 41:28points as a defenseman.
- 41:30>> Yeah.
- 41:31>> That's nothing compared to what you did.
- 41:32Well, yeah, but that's the
- 41:34>> How many did you get?
- 41:35>> 120.
- 41:35>> I mean, come on. With a mullet.
- 41:37>> With big ass mullet. Oh, yeah.
- 41:39>> Well, Jamie, find that picture and we'll
- 41:41put that out there.
- 41:42>> I don't think I got 120 points in my
- 41:44junior and pro career.
- 41:46>> No, [laughter]
- 41:48>> we know.
- 41:48>> TripleA. Yeah,
- 41:49>> I got 1,800 penalty.
- 41:51>> You do Sean was my first year was his
- 41:54second year and he was captain him and
- 41:56Terry Chideroni. And Terry Chiron was he
- 41:59was like uh the Walmart version of
- 42:02Wendell Clark.
- 42:04>> Well, [laughter] Jesus Christ mean this
- 42:06poor man's gonna love that team's going
- 42:09to come find you.
- 42:10>> Be nice to him.
- 42:11>> I love Jitter.
- 42:12>> He's the wall
- 42:14of Wendell Clark.
- 42:15>> Okay, but [laughter]
- 42:16how else would you someone who played
- 42:18just like him but was not as good. He
- 42:21was drafted the Toronto Maple Leafs at
- 42:23almost at the same time too. like he was
- 42:24right there.
- 42:25>> $100 billion company
- 42:26>> in Yeah, it's not bad. Call me Walmart.
- 42:28Hell, give me that Walmart money right
- 42:30now.
- 42:30>> Yeah, LET'S MAKE HIM A SPONSOR.
- 42:32[laughter]
- 42:32>> BILLION COMPANY.
- 42:34>> UM, he's the
- 42:35>> He lived on his own. I lived with a
- 42:37family that was like 10 minutes from
- 42:39where he lived and there were great
- 42:40people. Now, I will say that when they
- 42:44ask you like, "What kind of place do you
- 42:45want to live at?" You know, and my
- 42:46brother said, "Tell them you don't want
- 42:47to live with any kids, you know, because
- 42:49then they're you become like a brother
- 42:52and
- 42:53>> babysitter."
- 42:53>> Babysitter.
- 42:54>> Yeah, I did. My roll up. My first family
- 42:56I'm living with.
- 42:57>> They've got two kids. A son I'm 16 at
- 43:00this time. They have a son that's like
- 43:0217 and a daughter that's 15.
- 43:04>> Oh boy.
- 43:05>> Yeah. How old are you?
- 43:06>> Uh 16.
- 43:08>> Oh boy.
- 43:09>> Uhoh. I don't like where this is going.
- 43:11>> I keep going.
- 43:13>> Uh so
- 43:13>> No, keep going. No, no, no. Now I know.
- 43:16Keep going.
- 43:16>> As things progress
- 43:18>> Oh god.
- 43:18>> through uh the naturally that you know
- 43:21you become friends with people who are
- 43:23friends with
- 43:24>> Oh yeah. Yeah.
- 43:25>> the people you live with. And so things
- 43:27went a little sideways with one of her
- 43:29friends at some point. And so the
- 43:31parents were kind of on to it at one
- 43:33point. And and then in junior hockey
- 43:35back then, don't know about now, you'd
- 43:37go out on a Friday or Saturday night
- 43:39after a game with your teammates and no
- 43:41matter how old you are, you're drinking
- 43:42beer at that point. And I came stumbling
- 43:46home one night with said person [snorts]
- 43:49and I don't know what happened. I'm
- 43:51lying in the living room in the morning
- 43:54with said person and
- 43:56>> what was his name? [laughter]
- 43:59>> I'm surprised you didn't say that first,
- 44:01but go ahead Jamie. My bad.
- 44:02>> I'm not going to say names for the whole
- 44:03purpose of like, you know,
- 44:04>> he'll be fine. Sure.
- 44:05>> But the my billet dad, I wake up to him
- 44:09yelling at me.
- 44:13>> What's that? three with the D.
- 44:14[laughter]
- 44:14>> No, let's let him finish.
- 44:16>> That's weird.
- 44:17>> Let's let him finish, please.
- 44:19>> So, I wake up. I'm laying in the living
- 44:21room. I don't even know why I'm in the
- 44:23living room at this point. I can't
- 44:24remember anything. I look over, there's
- 44:26a person beside me. We're both on the
- 44:28floor. And then I look over this way and
- 44:31he's screaming at me and I'm like butt
- 44:33naked and he's like pointing at the door
- 44:35and I'm like, "What?" I look over
- 44:36there's like 4 in of snow in the foyer.
- 44:40I never closed the door when I came
- 44:41home. That's D. That's [laughter] He
- 44:43didn't give a [ __ ] about anything else.
- 44:44>> I don't know what he cared about. It was
- 44:45my last day there. Uh, I'll tell you.
- 44:47>> He cared about his heating bill.
- 44:48>> Oh, yeah. I moved moved out u and then
- 44:51went to uh remember Jim Weame?
- 44:53>> Yeah.
- 44:54>> His parents were my second billet
- 44:56family, the Weames. And they were older
- 44:58people. And Jim Weame was playing in the
- 45:00NHL at the time. They were great. But he
- 45:04had some health issues. So, fast forward
- 45:06to my second year. This is all my first
- 45:07year. My second year, I roll up to this
- 45:10house again. And I said, "No kids, you
- 45:11know, they have two sons that come out.
- 45:13One, they're both younger than me." I'm
- 45:14like, "Oh, man." You know,
- 45:16>> I don't want to do this crap. Anyways,
- 45:18Gary,
- 45:19>> where's the daughter? [snorts]
- 45:20>> No, no, there was two sons. Nope. Um, so
- 45:23Gary comes out. This dude comes out.
- 45:24He's got tattoos all over.
- 45:26>> And I'm like, "Okay." All right. He's
- 45:29got a beard. He's got tattoos. No shirt
- 45:31on to greet me.
- 45:32>> I'm like, "Okay, this might be my
- 45:34people."
- 45:34>> So Gary and Denise uh were awesome. They
- 45:38had a room in the basement for me and uh
- 45:41they showed me, hey,
- 45:42>> leather suit and the house.
- 45:43>> This is your room. You got your own
- 45:45bathroom. And then they they had a bar
- 45:47and they had a bar with all sorts of
- 45:49alcohol and beer. Boy, Harry just goes,
- 45:51>> I got one rule.
- 45:54>> Whatever you drink, you replace.
- 45:56>> There you go.
- 45:56>> That's it. And so they were the most
- 45:59amazing people still to this day. You
- 46:01know, we message on Facebook and
- 46:03whatnot. And they were awesome. So we'd
- 46:05have all the like not all the team
- 46:06parties, a lot of the team get
- 46:07togethers, you know, the get together
- 46:08before you go out
- 46:09>> would be at our place and Gary would be
- 46:11down there mixing cocktails,
- 46:14>> driving you to the bar, picking you up.
- 46:16Yep. He was awesome.
- 46:17>> Taking care of you.
- 46:18>> They were uh instrumental in
- 46:20>> like my success, too. Like cuz my first
- 46:23year was bumpy in Sudbury. It was I I
- 46:25was playing right wing on the fourth
- 46:26line at one point. It was like it was
- 46:28weird. We had a really good team.
- 46:29>> You got a big problem with right wing
- 46:31fourth liners, do you? That's a damn
- 46:34good [laughter] point.
- 46:35>> That's a damn good point. When you're
- 46:36draft
- 46:39>> when you're drafted as a left-handed
- 46:41defenseman [laughter]
- 46:43saying
- 46:44>> first round.
- 46:45>> Yeah. Eighth overall. Um
- 46:47>> so, but no, they they were a big part of
- 46:49it. They become
- 46:50>> part of your family and they didn't try
- 46:52to parent me ever. Like do your thing
- 46:54and whatnot. Here are the rules. They
- 46:56you know she would do my laundry and
- 46:57they would cook the meals and like
- 46:59everything you need good food and like
- 47:01>> you have a bathroom your own that's huge
- 47:04as a bill back in the day
- 47:05>> it was cool they were great basement
- 47:07basically
- 47:08>> to myself if I want to hang out or
- 47:10whatnot
- 47:11>> listener these kids got it good now just
