- 0:00Speaker 1: Back to Texas basketball. Actually, real quick, excuse me, General
- 0:05Speaker 1: quarterback Diego Pavia has been granted an extra year of eligibility.
- 0:12Speaker 1: So Pavia a motion for a preliminary injunction that would
- 0:15Speaker 1: allow him to play football in twenty twenty five. That
- 0:18Speaker 1: was granted. So Pavia, who, of course quarterback Vanderbilt to
- 0:23Speaker 1: that upset victory over Alabama this season. We'll be back
- 0:26Speaker 1: in twenty twenty five and we'll be coming to d KR.
- 0:30Speaker 1: So Pavia bought the law and won it. So excited
- 0:34Speaker 1: to see Diego Pavia. They take on Georgia Tech in
- 0:37Speaker 1: They're a ball game against Haines King. That will be
- 0:40Speaker 1: a fine game. Okay, back to some more sound from
- 0:43Speaker 1: Texas Longhorn point guard Julian Larry. Believe it or not,
- 0:51Speaker 1: and I'm sure Craig Way would know this, but Larry
- 0:54Speaker 1: actually was the starting quarterback for Frisco lone Star when
- 0:57Speaker 1: he was in high school. In fact, he was part
- 0:59Speaker 1: of a a ten win team. He played with Marvin Mims,
- 1:04Speaker 1: the Biller white Out NFL receiver. And so he was
- 1:08Speaker 1: asked today or yesterday, excuse me about what kind of
- 1:12Speaker 1: quarterback he was?
- 1:13Speaker 2: Was a dual threat? Was he passed first.
- 1:15Speaker 1: What kind of quarterback was Julian Larry, Texas Longhorn point guard,
- 1:19Speaker 1: former Frisco lone star quarterback.
- 1:22Speaker 2: I definitely was a dual threat.
- 1:24Speaker 3: I would say maybe not as quick, but you know,
- 1:27Speaker 3: a little little Lamar Jackson, little Michael Vick, you know,
- 1:31Speaker 3: that was me on the field.
- 1:32Speaker 2: But I had good receivers as well.
- 1:36Speaker 3: I played with Marvin Mems he plays for the Denver
- 1:38Speaker 3: Broncos right now. But we also have some really good
- 1:41Speaker 3: guys on the defensive side of the ball too that
- 1:43Speaker 3: are also in the NFL as well. It wasn't that
- 1:45Speaker 3: year when I played quarterback, but the year before I
- 1:48Speaker 3: played with Nick Bolton that starts with the Chiefs right now.
- 1:52Speaker 3: And then we got a few more. Trey Taylor, I
- 1:54Speaker 3: think he's with the Saints playing safety. So there's a
- 1:57Speaker 3: few NFL guys that I've played with coming to that school.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Yeah, his last year ten wins. The year before that,
- 2:02Speaker 1: he's mentioning it went twelve to two that season, the
- 2:06Speaker 1: Frisco lone start undefeated in district, played district championship and
- 2:11Speaker 1: got pretty far in Texas High school playoffs. Okay, so
- 2:14Speaker 1: now that we know he's a dual threat quarterback when
- 2:17Speaker 1: he's on the floor. Does he have the mentality of
- 2:20Speaker 1: being a quarterback when playing point guard?
- 2:22Speaker 2: It definitely has.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Just being that guy that you know, the guys come
- 2:26Speaker 3: back to, ask questions and really, you know, getting my
- 2:29Speaker 3: other guys going. That's what I'm really good at, just
- 2:30Speaker 3: getting guys going and you know, bringing guys along. So
- 2:33Speaker 3: that's pretty much always been that for me and always
- 2:37Speaker 3: been that role that I've been in pretty much everywhere
- 2:39Speaker 3: I've been.
- 2:40Speaker 1: So in the previous answer, he's you know, when I
- 2:42Speaker 1: asked what kind of quarterback he was, he said, I
- 2:45Speaker 1: believe what Lamar Jackson, Michael Fick. Now, if you call
- 2:48Speaker 1: yourself Lamar Jackson, Michael Fick, why aren't you still playing quarterback?
- 2:52Speaker 3: Well, I would say I played like him. I wouldn't say,
- 2:55Speaker 3: you know, the level, the levels are a little different.
- 2:58Speaker 3: But just the love for basketball, you know, my love
- 3:02Speaker 3: for basketball and just how much time I put it
- 3:04Speaker 3: and how much work I put into it. You know,
- 3:06Speaker 3: that's what really had set me apart in those two
- 3:10Speaker 3: and had really just helped me make my choice.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Okay, okay, So does being a former high school quarterback
- 3:17Speaker 1: help him to the floor.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Better right, Being a quarterback's definitely helped out just for
- 3:21Speaker 3: like passing angles as well, because you know, like football,
- 3:24Speaker 3: the ball can't hit the ground, but basketball the ball
- 3:27Speaker 3: gets a chance to hit the ground. So really just
- 3:29Speaker 3: learning those passing angles, like in the air to where
- 3:33Speaker 3: only my guy can get it for a layup, or
- 3:35Speaker 3: like this pass can lead him into a layup, or
- 3:38Speaker 3: this pass or this super quick swing will give my
- 3:41Speaker 3: guy a wide open shot. So really just helping out
- 3:44Speaker 3: with those passing angles and where.
- 3:45Speaker 2: To put the ball at.
- 3:47Speaker 1: It does sound cliche, but I do think Jewles does
- 3:49Speaker 1: see the floor differently. I mean, he had a no
- 3:51Speaker 1: look pass against Pine Bluff on Saturday. I think it
- 3:54Speaker 1: was to sarah on Yemma where he was on the
- 3:57Speaker 1: right side of the court half court, just whip in
- 4:00Speaker 1: a bullet to on Yema who went in for the layup,
- 4:03Speaker 1: no look past. Fantastic, fantastic vision. He's been fun to
- 4:09Speaker 1: watch so also, you know he's not afraid to throw
- 4:11Speaker 1: up an lu that may work out.
- 4:14Speaker 2: It may now.
- 4:14Speaker 1: There's been a couple of times this season where he's
- 4:16Speaker 1: been looking for Kendall Weaver or Kloom or somebody and
- 4:19Speaker 1: it's turned out of bouncing Rodney Terry on the Texas
- 4:22Speaker 1: bench not happy, but Larry does have impressive vision. Okay,
- 4:27Speaker 1: So two games up to go in non conference played
- 4:30Speaker 1: for Texas. Had some big wins NC State, Syracuse Saint
- 4:34Speaker 1: Joe's has some tough losses a Whio State ukun. So
- 4:36Speaker 1: what has Larry and this team learned about themselves so
- 4:38Speaker 1: far through non conference play?
- 4:40Speaker 3: I would say that I'm learning that we're starting to
- 4:44Speaker 3: come together on the offense, and we're a really good
- 4:47Speaker 3: running team, like really really good when we're running. So
- 4:49Speaker 3: I would just say, like a key for us is
- 4:51Speaker 3: just getting stops. And you know, as we've continued to
- 4:53Speaker 3: play like we were continuing to see like we have
- 4:56Speaker 3: really good individual on ball defenders, So really just each
- 5:00Speaker 3: other on that end as well, like when to help,
- 5:02Speaker 3: when to not help, and you know that'll just help
- 5:04Speaker 3: us get those clean rebounds and get out in transition.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Yesterday the women's game last night, Joey Larry was there.
- 5:11Speaker 1: He's usually come to a handful of game so far,
- 5:13Speaker 1: I think, usually with his teammate Jason Kent, also from
- 5:16Speaker 1: India State, but I thought he was also with Nick Cody,
- 5:20Speaker 1: the freshman six foot eight freshman from Dallas, Texas, had
- 5:24Speaker 1: a season ending injury in his high school season last
- 5:26Speaker 1: year his senior year season, missed it, came back and
- 5:30Speaker 1: had his best game of his short Texas career against
- 5:33Speaker 1: Arkansas Pine and Bluff eight to ten shooting, had twenty
- 5:36Speaker 1: points two rebounds overall. What is Julian Larry's impression of
- 5:41Speaker 1: the freshman Nick Cody.
- 5:43Speaker 3: I would say he's most efficient in the short roll
- 5:47Speaker 3: or either either in the short roll or getting downhill,
- 5:50Speaker 3: because I'll say he's a good playmaker once he gets
- 5:52Speaker 3: it in there as well as he showed, but also
- 5:56Speaker 3: transition because he's really good at running as well. He's
- 5:59Speaker 3: a gazelle out there are running. So really just hitting
- 6:02Speaker 3: him in his spots in that middle of the floor
- 6:04Speaker 3: in those short rolls, and hitting him ahead and transition
- 6:07Speaker 3: and just finding him on cuts as well, because he's
- 6:09Speaker 3: really good at cutting, like finding different holes and spots
- 6:12Speaker 3: within the defense. And I mean just really with the
- 6:14Speaker 3: older guys that we have, like Ken and Art, they
- 6:17Speaker 3: could really help him out with some of those some
- 6:19Speaker 3: of those things.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Obviously, Larry transfer from Indiana State. You know, he's from Dallas,
- 6:23Speaker 1: from the Texas area, but you know, playing in the state,
- 6:26Speaker 1: now playing here at Texas. What has the transition been
- 6:29Speaker 1: like from Indiana State back to Austin.
- 6:32Speaker 2: It's definitely been fun.
- 6:33Speaker 3: I mean, I knew I was going to come in
- 6:34Speaker 3: and play with a bunch of super talented guys, so
- 6:37Speaker 3: I knew like that was gonna be one thing. But
- 6:39Speaker 3: really just just how we brought it together. That was
- 6:41Speaker 3: really my main piece offensively and defensively, and I'm I
- 6:44Speaker 3: feel like it's been coming together really well and we're
- 6:47Speaker 3: really showing it over these last few games, just with
- 6:50Speaker 3: our ball movement and our defensive connectivity, and we just
- 6:54Speaker 3: have to continue to stay consistent with.
- 6:56Speaker 1: That last question for Julian Larry, he was asked about
- 7:01Speaker 1: the upcoming SEC play one of his thoughts and looking
- 7:05Speaker 1: at the rankings in terms of college basketball so far
- 7:11Speaker 1: through December's get closer to the new year, SEC is dominating.
- 7:14Speaker 1: You have Tennessee and Auburn at one and two, Kentucky
- 7:17Speaker 1: for Bama and Florida six and seven. You have A
- 7:21Speaker 1: and M at twelve, Oklahoma tend to know they're at fourteen,
- 7:25Speaker 1: ole Miss at seventeen, half the conference top twenty five,
- 7:30Speaker 1: and then you have Arkansas, Missouri just outside the top
- 7:33Speaker 1: twenty five, receiving votes at twenty seven and twenty eight,
- 7:36Speaker 1: and you still have Texas getting some votes there, just
- 7:39Speaker 1: seven votes and the last eight people actually excuse me,
- 7:41Speaker 1: just three vote three votes overall. So what does Jew
- 7:45Speaker 1: and Larry make so far of their upcoming sec folks
- 7:48Speaker 1: who have been playing so well so far this season
- 7:50Speaker 1: to start?
- 7:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it's definitely fun. Definitely fun. That's what
- 7:54Speaker 3: you come to Texas for to play the best. So
- 7:56Speaker 3: I mean it's not really like Darling looking at it
- 7:59Speaker 3: is like like you can't wait to get out there
- 8:01Speaker 3: and play against those type of teams because you know,
- 8:04Speaker 3: those high level basketball games is what we're here playing for.
- 8:07Speaker 1: And what strikes you about the style of play really
- 8:11Speaker 1: some high scoring team run through uh.
- 8:14Speaker 3: And just that fast pace of play and just knowing
- 8:17Speaker 3: like it's a thinking man's game. So I mean, it's
- 8:20Speaker 3: gonna be down to the most minute details to you know,
- 8:23Speaker 3: win these games. So that's what really sets to the
- 8:26Speaker 3: part is the pace of play and just those you know,
- 8:29Speaker 3: minor details that you have to execute to win these games.
- 8:34Speaker 1: It's gonna be a very tough start for Texas As
- 8:36Speaker 1: they begin conference play. First game Texas A and M.
- 8:41Speaker 1: That's right, the A and M. Maggis that will be Saturday.
- 8:45Speaker 1: To believe, the Saturday, January fourth, the Cotton Holdings Lone
- 8:50Speaker 1: Star showdown in College Station seven o'clock tip. That place
- 8:54Speaker 1: will be rocket. Okay, we'renna be back to wrap up
- 8:56Speaker 1: Wednesday's program here on AM thirteen hundred The Zone
