- 0:00On a day when it's 81 degrees and sunny and there's
- 0:03barely a cloud in the sky and the lake is like
- 0:05glass, the last thing I'm thinking about is my
- 0:08holiday best of podcast episodes. But it's actually
- 0:12the exact thing I need to be thinking about as
- 0:14I sit here recording this podcast for you today.
- 0:22Hey, welcome to another episode of Abby the Podcast
- 0:24Lady. I've said it in the past couple episodes,
- 0:26but I think this actually is going to be the
- 0:29last pontoon podcast of the summer. Recording
- 0:32at my parents' lake place and it is just such
- 0:35a beautiful day. I don't want to be inside. These
- 0:37days are so numbered. Like I said, it is kind
- 0:40of the last little bit of summer. We're soaking
- 0:42it all in. It is 81 degrees right now. It's just
- 0:44beautiful out here. Just a nice light breeze.
- 0:47And so when I listen back on this episode later
- 0:50this fall, early this winter. I just want to
- 0:52remember what it's like taking all this in. It's
- 0:55so beautiful. But with that being said, it is
- 0:57officially September. It's after Labor Day. We're
- 1:00in that little tweener area. between Q3 and Q4.
- 1:04Q4 is really when the money starts moving around
- 1:06in business and you are currently podcasting.
- 1:10You're using it as your marketing tool. I'm so
- 1:12proud of you. That's exactly what you need to
- 1:14be doing. But it's starting to get to be the
- 1:16time where you need to think about your best
- 1:18of episodes for the holiday season. Yeah, best
- 1:21of for the holiday season because we all know
- 1:24that the holidays are going to roll around and
- 1:26you're going to want to take a break. We all
- 1:28do. Everybody loves that last little bit of time.
- 1:32at the end of the year between Christmas and
- 1:34New Year's, taking some time off, maybe doing
- 1:35some traveling, going to see family, just hanging
- 1:38out and laying low, wrapping up the year the
- 1:41right way. And the last thing you want to be
- 1:43doing is scrambling, trying to get your best
- 1:46of podcast episodes out into the world. So the
- 1:49best thing you can do right now is start working
- 1:51on them. And yes, you can start working on your
- 1:54best of episodes. I actually just did a best
- 1:56of summer episode for one of my clients. They
- 1:59needed a week of wiggle room. over Labor Day.
- 2:02And I'm like, hey, you guys, you had a really
- 2:04great summer. They had some really killer interviews
- 2:07that they did throughout the summer. They had
- 2:08some really great solo episodes they did throughout
- 2:10the summer. I'm like, guys, how about I just
- 2:12take the last three months of content and find
- 2:15some of the best key moments that stood out from
- 2:17those episodes. We'll mash them together. We'll
- 2:19do a best of the summer episode for Labor Day
- 2:22week. That means you guys all get a week off.
- 2:24You don't need to worry about it. You can send
- 2:25the kids back to school and just take a breather
- 2:27for a little bit. And it worked out so incredibly.
- 2:30well. But doing that made me think, okay, now
- 2:33is the time to start kind of cultivating those
- 2:35best moments that we've had so far in the year
- 2:38for my other shows. So I have content ready to
- 2:41go for those best of episodes when I want to
- 2:43make them come December. So the best way I have
- 2:46found to do it, I have a subscription to Riverside,
- 2:50which is a online recording platform. There's
- 2:53so much more than that now they do podcast hosting
- 2:55and all that. But I think that they're the best
- 2:57online podcast recording platform out there.
- 2:59If you're doing video interviews, Riverside,
- 3:01Riverside, Riverside. But they also have some
- 3:03really good AI tools built into it. And one of
- 3:06my favorites is you can take the episode that
- 3:09you have completed. It's done. It's edited. It's
- 3:11ready to go. And what you do is you upload it
- 3:14into your Riverside editor and then it creates
- 3:16magic clips and magic moments. So what I like
- 3:20to do is ask the co -creator function to make
- 3:23me magic. moments that are between five and ten
- 3:27minutes long from the episode and it scans a
- 3:30transcript it reads everything it pulls out the
- 3:32really juicy bits of the show and then I like
- 3:35to mash up a handful of them for a best of episode
- 3:39I think anywhere from that like I'd say like
- 3:41five clips at minimum for a best of that are
- 3:44at minimum five minutes long and then I'd probably
- 3:47max it at 10 10 can get kind of confusing and
- 3:49long but what I like to do is pull those magic
- 3:51clips and then one from every episode and mash
- 3:54it all together into one best of episode. And
- 3:57for the client I just did it for, we did kind
- 3:59of a mishmash of both their interviews that they've
- 4:01done and their solo ones. But what we do at the
- 4:03end of the year, because every other week is
- 4:05an interview and a team episode. So I will do
- 4:09a best of interviews episode for the last week
- 4:12of the year. And it's just some of the standout
- 4:14moments from the interviews that they have done
- 4:16throughout the year. But then I'll also do a
- 4:18best of their crew. So then they get two weeks
- 4:21off at the end of the year. So week one will
- 4:24be the best of the crew. Week two will be the
- 4:26best of the interviews. And so they get a two
- 4:27-week gap to just take some time off, reset.
- 4:30They already did the work. And honestly, recycling
- 4:33some of those clips from those shows drives numbers
- 4:36to people to listen to the full episode of the
- 4:40show that they might have missed throughout the
- 4:42year. They might be listening to that best of
- 4:43episode and go, wait a minute, I didn't hear
- 4:45that interview with that person. That was a great
- 4:47little clip. I want to hear the rest of it. So
- 4:48then they'll go back in the catalog and then
- 4:50listen to that full episode. So it's driving
- 4:53numbers. It's building interest. It's reminding
- 4:55your audience of what you have done this year,
- 4:57of what you've accomplished this year. And it
- 5:00just works out really great to give people some
- 5:01time off as well. What's also nice is that I
- 5:04usually over content when it comes to like social
- 5:07clips and reels and stuff like that. So there's
- 5:10still stuff that didn't get posted throughout
- 5:12the year that they can go and post to promote
- 5:14the best of episode. It works out really well
- 5:16that way. And really the only work that they
- 5:19have to do on the front end of it is record.
- 5:21a little clip at the intro saying, hey. We're
- 5:25taking some time off for the holidays. We hope
- 5:26you are too. And we wanted to still put something
- 5:29out for you guys and just kind of recap a great
- 5:31year that we had. So here is the best of episode
- 5:34for... And then that's it. I just put that in
- 5:38the front. I add in the clips that I've pulled
- 5:41through Riverside, mash it all into one audio
- 5:43form, video form, whatever you're doing for your
- 5:46show. And then that gets posted as the best of.
- 5:49And then I do like to include links in the show
- 5:51notes as well for the episodes that are referenced.
- 5:53So if people do... listen and they're like oh
- 5:55what was that interview that happened with sally
- 5:57at the eight minute mark i want to go listen
- 5:59to that full one they have an easy place in the
- 6:01show notes to access that interview go back and
- 6:03listen and just kind of recap the year now that
- 6:06being said i just spent seven minutes explaining
- 6:08how to make a best of video and that didn't include
- 6:11actually uploading or downloading or editing
- 6:13anything so it does take some time there are
- 6:16a lot of moving parts and pieces you do need
- 6:18to factor in when making your best of episodes
- 6:21so my best advice to you especially going into
- 6:24q4 right now you're recording podcasts you're
- 6:27locking in for labor day you're making sure that
- 6:29you get some fresh content out you're making
- 6:31sure you're doing the best thing you can to market
- 6:33the shows and market your brand and market your
- 6:35business if you have a really great moment in
- 6:37an episode that you are recording that you're
- 6:40editing pull it out right now Start a folder
- 6:43on your computer where you edit that just says
- 6:45best of 2026. And when you are editing and you
- 6:49have that standout moment, you're like, wow,
- 6:50I was really proud of the question I asked, or
- 6:52I really loved the answer my guest gave. Save
- 6:55that clip, throw it in the folder, because then
- 6:57when it comes time to make that best of episode
- 6:59at the end of the year, you have a folder that's
- 7:00just ready to go. You don't need to think about
- 7:02it. It's already edited. It's already sitting
- 7:04there waiting for you. Go in and just grab it
- 7:07and go. So as you're editing now, remember to
- 7:09pull those best of moments so you're prepped.
- 7:11ready for the end of 2026 I cannot believe I'm
- 7:14saying the end of 2026 already oh it's crazy
- 7:17and I'm sitting here sweating in the sun But
- 7:21seriously, working ahead is going to save you
- 7:23a lot of time and energy at the end of the year
- 7:26when you are probably going to be pretty strapped
- 7:28for time and energy. So think about it. Grab
- 7:31those clips. Work ahead. And if you need help
- 7:34with planning this out or you listen to this
- 7:37and you're like, I don't know what she's saying,
- 7:39but I really want a best of episode. I do podcast
- 7:41production work. I can help you with this. If
- 7:44you want a podcast, if you want all of this and
- 7:46you want it to run smoothly and not have to deal
- 7:48with any of it or learn any of it. I can help
- 7:51you with that. Go ahead and reach out at abbygravesproductions
- 7:54.com. Link is, of course, down in the show notes
- 7:57below. I can help you with your podcast no matter
- 7:59what kind of help you need. I'm the podcast lady
- 8:02for a reason. But keep working on those best
- 8:04of episodes. Pull those moments so you're ready
- 8:06to go at the end of the year and start planning
- 8:08accordingly. Honestly, what you can do is if
- 8:10you got enough clips for two weeks of best ofs
- 8:12at the end of the year, start working backwards.
- 8:15There are less weeks between now and then than
- 8:18you think. And you can probably... map out some
- 8:20pretty incredible content to put out in that
- 8:22timeframe. So that being said, leave a five -star
- 8:24rating and review, and we will see you next week
- 8:26on Abbey the Podcast Lady.
