- 0:21Speaker 1: and the City. Because this week has been crazy.
- 0:25Speaker 2: We are yes, yes, but will it will happen?
- 0:29Speaker 1: It will We're coming. We're coming for it for real.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Uh.
- 0:32Speaker 1: I had a family emergency, so like I had to
- 0:34Speaker 1: scramble and rearrange some things. And my coworkers are amazing
- 0:40Speaker 1: and work with me, so I appreciate that. But this
- 0:42Speaker 1: happy hour, I'm gonna talk a give an update about
- 0:44Speaker 1: things happening in my life that aren't horrible, but they
- 0:48Speaker 1: are a little bit anxiety ridden. But that's okay. We're
- 0:51Speaker 1: we're gonna get into it before we start. This is
- 0:53Speaker 1: a happy hour, so if you are doing anything happy
- 0:56Speaker 1: hour ish, do so responsibly. Also not sponsored by any
- 1:01Speaker 1: of the things that I'm going to talk about currently
- 1:04Speaker 1: or we're going to talk about. We could be we
- 1:06Speaker 1: should be call us yeah things for here. Annie, are
- 1:11Speaker 1: you doing happy hourish things?
- 1:13Speaker 2: I am? And I forgot to open it before the noise. Okay,
- 1:21Speaker 2: if you don't like the sound of a can opening,
- 1:24Speaker 2: then skip five seconds.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Anyway, I had a bunch of friends over recently. There's
- 1:35Speaker 2: a lot of stuff going on right now. There's birthdays,
- 1:38Speaker 2: there's holidays, there's all kinds of things. And they all
- 1:41Speaker 2: bought me kind of different beers. And this is a
- 1:45Speaker 2: very spring, citrusy beer.
- 1:49Speaker 1: I see the lemonon there.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Yeah, the can is very pretty. I actually haven't had
- 1:53Speaker 2: one yet, so this is what goes.
- 1:58Speaker 1: I like it. Yeah, is it a pale l.
- 2:02Speaker 2: I think it's a Belgian l Yeah, citrus Belgian l.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Oh those are That's a good combo. I like that.
- 2:10Speaker 1: It's the tasty m h nice I am. It's been
- 2:16Speaker 1: a kind of a busy week and I am running
- 2:19Speaker 1: off of fumes essentially with weird sleep schedule and bouncing about.
- 2:23Speaker 1: So I have been drinking a lot more coffee or
- 2:26Speaker 1: a lot more caffee recently. I have gotten into actually
- 2:29Speaker 1: getting buying my own chies. I've concentrated chai to make
- 2:33Speaker 1: myself a chai lattes, so I have that on hand
- 2:37Speaker 1: as well as my water, because you know, you gotta
- 2:39Speaker 1: counter it. Be responsible, drink that water right right right? Yes,
- 2:44Speaker 1: mineus bubbly And I wonder if there's any connotations, but
- 2:46Speaker 1: I probably shouldn't drink that much bubble of water, but
- 2:48Speaker 1: I really like it.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Yeah, we can talk about that later. We were talking about.
- 2:54Speaker 1: That, okay, okay, and he's ashowing me. And today I
- 2:57Speaker 1: was just going to give you an update about what
- 2:59Speaker 1: is happening. I had told you that I am venturing
- 3:02Speaker 1: into new hobbies and things that like growth, personal growth,
- 3:07Speaker 1: where like it's not a midlight crisis necessarily, even though
- 3:10Speaker 1: I've had ten and he has told me. But it's
- 3:14Speaker 1: just like you know, kind of finding new passions and
- 3:17Speaker 1: new loves. And I've been doing a lot more like
- 3:21Speaker 1: working out zoom, but I've done it for ten years though,
- 3:23Speaker 1: like it's been a thing that I've always done. I've
- 3:25Speaker 1: always loved dancing. I've always had the idea that I
- 3:29Speaker 1: would love to choreograph my own routines. But I'm not great,
- 3:32Speaker 1: but I'm okay in some of the things, and I
- 3:34Speaker 1: can get you to move well today, very like I've
- 3:39Speaker 1: been waiting for a while. I told y'all, I think
- 3:42Speaker 1: in December, right, this was my plan that I was
- 3:45Speaker 1: gonna I was gonna go for it and a little
- 3:47Speaker 1: bit of hesitation, and I have like a playlist with
- 3:51Speaker 1: about six of my own routines nice, great, and that's
- 3:55Speaker 1: been ready to go. I got certified in it, and
- 4:00Speaker 1: then I started sitting my application and I think the
- 4:03Speaker 1: second week, first week of January, because I'm like, I'm
- 4:05Speaker 1: gonna do this nothing. I heard nothing. I heard nothing.
- 4:09Speaker 1: I did it again. I heard nothing. I had my
- 4:12Speaker 1: instructor friend, who has been my zomitator of the entire time,
- 4:16Speaker 1: do it for me. Nothing when I tell you it's
- 4:20Speaker 1: been a month of like nothing, even to the point
- 4:22Speaker 1: that he actually would text her and be like, hey,
- 4:25Speaker 1: have you seen this person's uh application, She's really great,
- 4:29Speaker 1: And then even like did one for me as a referral,
- 4:32Speaker 1: like sit in the referral nothing Annie. So I kind
- 4:35Speaker 1: of just was like, you know what this might be
- 4:37Speaker 1: telling because I am very much that person, especially when
- 4:39Speaker 1: it comes to being doing anything new or things that
- 4:43Speaker 1: like I have no control in that. I take it
- 4:46Speaker 1: as a sign if it's not working, then it's not
- 4:49Speaker 1: meant to be. I'm not going to push whatever whatnot.
- 4:51Speaker 1: So I kind of left it alone. I mean, we
- 4:54Speaker 1: were still trying, don't get me wrong, but like I
- 4:56Speaker 1: was like at peace with it might not happen. That's okay,
- 5:00Speaker 1: I can go to my classes. I can do some
- 5:01Speaker 1: routines in here and I can still be free. I
- 5:05Speaker 1: decided this Monday that, you know what, I'll try one
- 5:08Speaker 1: more time and see if this works. And that day
- 5:13Speaker 1: I got a phone call. The next day he was like,
- 5:17Speaker 1: do you want to come in for an audition? I
- 5:18Speaker 1: was like, well, dang, And today I did an audition.
- 5:22Speaker 1: So I had to go in, go in with a
- 5:24Speaker 1: warm up, did a couple of routines, did another warm up.
- 5:28Speaker 1: She's about your cold down. She's filming me. I got
- 5:31Speaker 1: good reviews. I think she kept saying you're very energetic.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Like that feels like when you tell a toddler about
- 5:40Speaker 1: how much energy they have, you know what I mean?
- 5:44Speaker 1: It kind of felt like that. But I'm like, you
- 5:45Speaker 1: know what, I'm gonna get this a compliment. Yes, And
- 5:47Speaker 1: then she's like you're good at queueing and I was like,
- 5:49Speaker 1: I've done it. But she's like, you've done this for
- 5:50Speaker 1: a long time, and she was like, so you just
- 5:51Speaker 1: got certified. I was like, yeah, like a month ago.
- 5:54Speaker 1: She's like, huh, you're really good at this, and I
- 5:56Speaker 1: was like, yeah, I've been in classes for ten years. Also,
- 6:00Speaker 1: some things just come naturally, like being a cheerleader, being
- 6:03Speaker 1: all those things that that came through. But it was
- 6:05Speaker 1: really kind of funny because I'm like, Okay, now she's
- 6:08Speaker 1: throwing out days that she would like me to be
- 6:10Speaker 1: at different clubs, which is if you know anything about
- 6:13Speaker 1: about Atlanta, Like the running joke is to get to
- 6:16Speaker 1: anywhere in Atlanta is fifteen minutes without traffic, but there's
- 6:19Speaker 1: always traffic, So go ahead and plan thirty minutes or
- 6:22Speaker 1: forty five minutes for that trip, and it could be
- 6:24Speaker 1: zero point five miles. It's gonna take you that long.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Oh yeah, every dang time. So like that was like,
- 6:33Speaker 1: you know, I do travel already, so it wouldn't be
- 6:36Speaker 1: too unusual. I am sad about the fact that I
- 6:38Speaker 1: might have to miss some of the classes that I
- 6:40Speaker 1: have already had, I will tell y'all. So with all
- 6:43Speaker 1: of these things, I started having a little bit of anxiety.
- 6:47Speaker 1: I did take a propopinal, if y'all know what that is,
- 6:49Speaker 1: is for its like a low grade blood pressure medication
- 6:52Speaker 1: for anxiety performance anxiety. I love that, y'all, like, because
- 6:59Speaker 1: at one point I was like, oh, my heart's not
- 7:01Speaker 1: racing like that, like that anxiety where I almost want
- 7:03Speaker 1: to throw up. And I was like, oh, yeah, that's
- 7:05Speaker 1: a good drugs is that drug? Because it really did
- 7:10Speaker 1: help me be calm and like rational in my thinking,
- 7:13Speaker 1: not not like racing thoughts because that happens to me
- 7:16Speaker 1: a lot. So I came in and I was like, Okay,
- 7:20Speaker 1: all of these things were great. But then the anxiety
- 7:22Speaker 1: this started coming, and I was like, oh my god,
- 7:24Speaker 1: I had to teach a class. What if people don't come,
- 7:26Speaker 1: What if they don't like me? What if they like
- 7:29Speaker 1: don't like my routines? Because I am so self conscious
- 7:33Speaker 1: about everything that if I have can't do it well,
- 7:36Speaker 1: I won't do it at all. Like I've talked about
- 7:38Speaker 1: this before and it's the same. I know I can dance,
- 7:41Speaker 1: but I don't know if my routines are good. The
- 7:43Speaker 1: few routines that I've showed so far, people love it,
- 7:46Speaker 1: love it enough to copy it and do it themselves
- 7:48Speaker 1: or do it without me being there. And I think
- 7:50Speaker 1: that's the biggest compliment. But like I'm watching other people
- 7:54Speaker 1: who are actually trained because I am not trained, and
- 7:58Speaker 1: I'm like, oh no, I'm not as good as them.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Oh no, I don't do that. Like people are like
- 8:03Speaker 1: ballroom dancers or Latin Latin dancers, and I'm like, oh,
- 8:07Speaker 1: my stuff is not Latin, Like I do a lot
- 8:10Speaker 1: of Latin dancers because it is zoom bud you're supposed to,
- 8:13Speaker 1: but things I would create would be a lot more
- 8:16Speaker 1: like hip hop, cardio jam type of thing. So I
- 8:19Speaker 1: feel like I'm a little nervous, even though every class
- 8:22Speaker 1: that I've ever like helped teach or whatnot, I've been
- 8:25Speaker 1: complimented and told like my ego is being fed, so
- 8:28Speaker 1: there's no reason for me to doubt it other than
- 8:31Speaker 1: I am a doubter with a lot of performance anxiety
- 8:35Speaker 1: and a lot of self deprecating ideals about myself and
- 8:41Speaker 1: no self esteem. Although I've gotten better as I get older,
- 8:45Speaker 1: because it's like you kind of start caring a little
- 8:47Speaker 1: less about what people think, but there's still enough to
- 8:50Speaker 1: be like, but if I don't people get people in
- 8:53Speaker 1: these classes, they'll cancel me. And I feel like that
- 8:56Speaker 1: is one of the biggest rejections that I might have
- 8:59Speaker 1: to deal with.
- 9:10Speaker 2: I personally think that you will do fantastically, but I
- 9:15Speaker 2: understand all of your concerns because it's scary to like
- 9:21Speaker 2: put yourself out there and then hope that people respond
- 9:25Speaker 2: to it. And show up right, because if they don't,
- 9:28Speaker 2: then it's like you did this whole thing.
- 9:31Speaker 1: And it was for naught. I do have this level
- 9:38Speaker 1: of like, to be fair, I'm also a little bit lazy,
- 9:42Speaker 1: and I'm like, oh my god, I really have to
- 9:43Speaker 1: commit to this. As y'all know, when I like like
- 9:46Speaker 1: a hobby, I like it for about six weeks and
- 9:48Speaker 1: I'm yeah, I'm done type of conversation. Of course, I
- 9:52Speaker 1: have stuck with this again for ten years. This has
- 9:54Speaker 1: been something I have constantly done and constantly love and
- 9:57Speaker 1: will like drive a little far too. This is kind
- 10:00Speaker 1: of my socialization. I love these people in a way
- 10:03Speaker 1: that can be superficial without feeling superficial because we might
- 10:07Speaker 1: not know much about each other. But I love our
- 10:10Speaker 1: time together and it's such a like unifying time for
- 10:13Speaker 1: the most part. There's also controversy and there's also like
- 10:15Speaker 1: a little bit of drama that happens at times, just
- 10:19Speaker 1: like in anything. But the level of diversity of the
- 10:23Speaker 1: different types of people that you meet in these classes,
- 10:25Speaker 1: especially in Atalanta, like one class has all like Asian
- 10:29Speaker 1: and Latino people in black like community. The way that
- 10:33Speaker 1: we gather it is so diverse that there's hardly like
- 10:36Speaker 1: for the first time, there's less white people than there
- 10:39Speaker 1: are like any other community. I'm like, oh, that's rare.
- 10:41Speaker 1: That's rare to see that in any like not necessarily
- 10:45Speaker 1: a privilege, but I mean being a part of a
- 10:47Speaker 1: GEM member like that is a little bit of a privilege.
- 10:50Speaker 1: But I love seeing that level of diversity. You have
- 10:53Speaker 1: people who are all the way from like eighteen to
- 10:57Speaker 1: there's a woman there that's eighty two, Like, it is
- 11:01Speaker 1: phenomenal to see and they are moving and having fun.
- 11:03Speaker 1: They're enjoying being able to move and listening to the music.
- 11:07Speaker 1: So I love every bit of that, and it feels
- 11:11Speaker 1: like a good community without having to be like, okay,
- 11:14Speaker 1: but we have to have sit down talks and have
- 11:16Speaker 1: deep conversations because I am the person who can't do that,
- 11:20Speaker 1: Like I have to be able to do that, especially
- 11:22Speaker 1: if it's a one on one setting, but if I
- 11:24Speaker 1: only get to see you for like five minutes at
- 11:26Speaker 1: a time after class, it could be superficial and I
- 11:28Speaker 1: don't feel bad about it, Yeah, which is what this is,
- 11:34Speaker 1: and also a growing relationship as you get to know
- 11:37Speaker 1: people like it is nice to be missed and seen
- 11:40Speaker 1: and I like when you walk in and having people
- 11:42Speaker 1: yell hey, or if you're missing a couple of classes
- 11:45Speaker 1: they come and be like, what you've been we missed you.
- 11:46Speaker 1: It's nice to be seen, you know. But with all
- 11:50Speaker 1: of that, I say this preemptively because I haven't gotten
- 11:54Speaker 1: a yes, so I might come back and be like,
- 11:55Speaker 1: she actually doesn't like me. She told me I wasn't hired.
- 11:58Speaker 1: So if that comes about, we'll hear that as the thing.
- 12:00Speaker 1: I like, Well, it didn't mean to happen. It didn't.
- 12:02Speaker 1: It didn't. It wasn't meant to be. But with the
- 12:06Speaker 1: idea that it does go forward, this is a new
- 12:09Speaker 1: adventure and I really hope that I can to keep
- 12:12Speaker 1: loving it because we've talked about that. How when it
- 12:14Speaker 1: becomes a job, it's not fun it's fun anymore?
- 12:20Speaker 2: Yeah, or at least like it's stressful. In my experience,
- 12:26Speaker 2: it's it's still fun, but then it becomes a thing
- 12:30Speaker 2: that is a stressor.
- 12:32Speaker 1: On some level. Yeah. I mean, I'm like, for now,
- 12:36Speaker 1: if I don't want to go to class because I'm tired,
- 12:38Speaker 1: I don't have to. If I'm teaching the class, I
- 12:41Speaker 1: have to.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Yeah, And there's pros and constant.
- 12:45Speaker 1: That that's both good and a bad thing. Sometimes moving
- 12:49Speaker 1: around going to class makes me feel better, I will
- 12:54Speaker 1: say that. So that's it's coming. I'm excited for this adventure.
- 13:00Speaker 1: I'm probably I'm gonna switch up my like name what
- 13:04Speaker 1: like in order for people to find me on those apps.
- 13:07Speaker 1: If you're in Atlanta and if you want to come
- 13:11Speaker 1: to a Zoomba slash Cardio GM class LA Fitness. Not
- 13:14Speaker 1: a sponsor, uh, but that's where I will be teaching.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Maybe mm hmm, come find me, hang out and dance
- 13:21Speaker 1: with me. I'm excited if this does happen. The process
- 13:28Speaker 1: of actually auditioning was interesting, was interesting any I wasn't
- 13:31Speaker 1: gonna talk about that too, uh in that like, it's
- 13:36Speaker 1: been a long time since I've done an interview for
- 13:38Speaker 1: a job or any type of like because even like
- 13:41Speaker 1: in this job literally just started with me and you
- 13:44Speaker 1: talking about a subject that was that I was passionate
- 13:46Speaker 1: about and too, yeah we like you or get come
- 13:49Speaker 1: in as where like previously when I was working with
- 13:52Speaker 1: the Department of Juvenal Justice, I was initially interviewed and
- 13:56Speaker 1: then for any promotion I did have to get go
- 13:58Speaker 1: through the interview process. But that's been about eight no,
- 14:02Speaker 1: twelve years because I was in a position for a minute.
- 14:05Speaker 1: So like coming back and doing something physical and being like,
- 14:08Speaker 1: I gotta do this performing too was odd.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Yeah. Oh, I mean the whole interview process is strange,
- 14:20Speaker 2: and it I've only done, I think one that included
- 14:25Speaker 2: a physical element, and it was so bizarre because at
- 14:30Speaker 2: the end I was like, I know I didn't look
- 14:34Speaker 2: I was doing the thing, but I know it didn't
- 14:40Speaker 2: look like the coolest thing.
- 14:43Speaker 1: It's gonna look how I just recently watched actors talk
- 14:45Speaker 1: about running and they have to fil slstage to show
- 14:49Speaker 1: to see how they run to fix the way they
- 14:51Speaker 1: run on space. But yeah, essentially I was doing that
- 14:54Speaker 1: because I've been watching myself. I have to videotape myself,
- 14:57Speaker 1: often with routines so I can remember what I did. Man,
- 15:01Speaker 1: I hate videotaping myself. I hate that. And there's a
- 15:07Speaker 1: component to this where you have to kind of advertise
- 15:09Speaker 1: yourself because you want people to come. And I'm like, oh, oh, man,
- 15:13Speaker 1: I'm really bad about that. I don't have to figure
- 15:15Speaker 1: that one out because I'm not good at social media anyway,
- 15:17Speaker 1: and I don't like putting myself out there and I
- 15:19Speaker 1: don't like to film myself bouncing about.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Yeah, agreed on all points. I don't like any of
- 15:28Speaker 2: that either. But also up if.
- 15:31Speaker 1: You ask me to, yes, well I'm hoping. Yeah, I'm
- 15:34Speaker 1: gonna ask you too. Of course I'm gonna ask you to.
- 15:36Speaker 1: I want everybody to come and hang out with me.
- 15:39Speaker 1: There's a lot. Yeah, we'll see. It feels an odd
- 15:41Speaker 1: timing as we are in the middle of Also, I'm like,
- 15:44Speaker 1: we're talking about ice and immigration issues, and then I'm like.
- 15:48Speaker 2: And zoomba, you've got to find some kind of outlet.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Did you do?
- 15:54Speaker 2: You really do?
- 15:55Speaker 1: But it's such an interesting thing because you're like, ah,
- 15:57Speaker 1: this is a real flip from what we're talking about. Uh,
- 16:01Speaker 1: but yeah, y'all, it's happening. New Adventures of Sam.
- 16:07Speaker 2: I love it. I can't wait to hear some updates.
- 16:10Speaker 1: And you can. I can't wait for you to come
- 16:12Speaker 1: to the class if I have one.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Oh yeah with me.
- 16:16Speaker 1: I need to get ready, you got you gotta get ready? Yeah,
- 16:19Speaker 1: chutch it out.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Oh wow, listeners. Definitely if you are in Atlanta, I
- 16:25Speaker 2: want to check it out if it happens.
- 16:27Speaker 1: If it happens, we'll let you know.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I just got pretty end of excited. I was
- 16:31Speaker 1: really want to talk about the interview thing, but then
- 16:32Speaker 1: I got sidetracks. But it's okay, Well let us know.
