Transcript
- 0:11Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to episode forty five of Ravellio for
- 0:15Speaker 1: May twenty eighth, twenty twenty six. I'm Amy and I'm Nicole.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Nichol's back.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Yi, I'm back. I'm back. I'm going to be back
- 0:39Speaker 2: for a bit, I think, so. Thanks so much to
- 0:42Speaker 2: our lovely friends for filling in for the last episode.
- 0:46Speaker 2: I listened to the episode on my flight home and
- 0:50Speaker 2: it was very fun.
- 0:52Speaker 1: We had a good time. If you missed it. We
- 0:56Speaker 1: talked about plants and herbology in a little bit about
- 1:02Speaker 1: magical plants and their relation to our human world muggle world. Yeah.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Well in this episode we're going to kind of continue
- 1:12Speaker 2: on the I guess like interesting topics. I guess maybe
- 1:17Speaker 2: a tied to like another. No, I mean nothing is
- 1:22Speaker 2: a boring topic, but I think that like, yeah, I
- 1:24Speaker 2: mean I can't I haven't really you know, listening to
- 1:27Speaker 2: herbology topics and now we're going to talk about astronomy,
- 1:30Speaker 2: like just interesting topics, not boring, just different different. So
- 1:35Speaker 2: in this episode we're going to be discussing the stars
- 1:38Speaker 2: and planets and how they're used in Harry Potter. But
- 1:44Speaker 2: first listening to w W in the Wizarding Wireless Network
- 1:55Speaker 2: Now for the latest headlines. So we have a little
- 1:59Speaker 2: bit of new this episode. There's some new merch coming
- 2:06Speaker 2: to Epic Universe. There's new collectible glass character wands that
- 2:11Speaker 2: will be available. I think they're just going to be
- 2:14Speaker 2: available at Ministry of Magic and Epic Universe. I don't
- 2:18Speaker 2: know if they're going to expand further. But the news
- 2:21Speaker 2: story I saw just said in Ministry of Magic and
- 2:27Speaker 2: these are really cool and they like you can also
- 2:29Speaker 2: get a glass stand to put them on, like the
- 2:31Speaker 2: wand stands that they already have available, And yeah, I
- 2:37Speaker 2: don't think something that I would actually get, which is
- 2:40Speaker 2: shocking because I have a good merch item, especially ones.
- 2:44Speaker 2: But they are really cool and actually I think they
- 2:46Speaker 2: look really like classy and would look kind of like
- 2:50Speaker 2: elegant on the show.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Or are these like only for the one year anniversary
- 2:58Speaker 1: or do we know if they're going to be out
- 3:00Speaker 1: for longer than that.
- 3:02Speaker 2: So I'm not sure because I know that you had
- 3:04Speaker 2: originally had in the dock about anniversary merch and I
- 3:06Speaker 2: was like, wait, there's anniversary merch, Like I had no
- 3:09Speaker 2: idea that there was, So I don't know if that's
- 3:13Speaker 2: why we're seeing some new Merch pop up if it
- 3:15Speaker 2: is related to that. I think that something like this
- 3:18Speaker 2: kind of looks like an anniversary.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Type, like how I did like the plaque for Hogsmeade
- 3:24Speaker 1: that was like the.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Glass Yeah, that I still wish i'd got when we
- 3:27Speaker 2: were there and I didn't. But yeah, but I haven't
- 3:30Speaker 2: seen anyone reporting the character Last Character Wants as an
- 3:35Speaker 2: anniversary item.
- 3:36Speaker 1: But yeah, I don't know if it's just a coincidence
- 3:39Speaker 1: that they just came out like around the same time,
- 3:42Speaker 1: because I know they did. They did like different anniversary
- 3:46Speaker 1: items for each portal I was seeing, and they had
- 3:49Speaker 1: like a new bag and like stuff like that, but
- 3:54Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know, because yeah, like everything
- 3:58Speaker 1: I've seen about the glass ones, it hasn't necessarily been
- 4:01Speaker 1: like only available for the first anniversary.
- 4:05Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, they definitely seem like an anniversary item.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Though I wonder too what they should have done if
- 4:13Speaker 2: it was going to be like an anniversary item, is
- 4:15Speaker 2: they should have done the like the Phoenix wand it's
- 4:19Speaker 2: like glass, although I don't I don't know if that
- 4:21Speaker 2: one would have worked well as glass because I feel
- 4:23Speaker 2: like you need the different paint colors to kind of
- 4:25Speaker 2: really see it. I think I guess maybe the character
- 4:29Speaker 2: wants work better because they're just it can be a
- 4:33Speaker 2: little bit. They're more about the shapes I think than
- 4:35Speaker 2: the detail. But yeah, no, that's a good question. Hopefully
- 4:39Speaker 2: we'll see like more on it. I don't know if
- 4:43Speaker 2: Universal has like a if there's if they've posted anything
- 4:47Speaker 2: official about the glass wands. I've just seen it through
- 4:50Speaker 2: other outlets, so maybe we'll learn more about it if
- 4:56Speaker 2: Universal posts about it like more officially. M But yeah,
- 5:03Speaker 2: there's also a new hazelnut flavored chocolate frog that is
- 5:09Speaker 2: going to also be exclusive to Ministry of Magic, And yeah,
- 5:15Speaker 2: this sounds really great. I like message Amie as soon
- 5:18Speaker 2: as I saw it because this is hazel nut is
- 5:20Speaker 2: my jam and I'm like, this would be great and
- 5:23Speaker 2: they just need to like add some like they need
- 5:26Speaker 2: to make it like a Ferraro rochet chocolate frog that
- 5:29Speaker 2: would be like perfect, like add some little actual hazel
- 5:32Speaker 2: nuts in it. They could really off the chocolate frog game,
- 5:37Speaker 2: like we could get I don't know, like truffle and
- 5:40Speaker 2: it's got like a like lint, like think of like
- 5:42Speaker 2: lint truffles, like a like a smoother inside like they
- 5:46Speaker 2: could really level.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Up a good salted caramel.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean I feel like this. Obviously we knew
- 5:53Speaker 2: that they started branching out right, like we got the
- 5:56Speaker 2: white chocolate, we got the dark chocolate one, and now
- 5:59Speaker 2: like the hazelnut one. I think like the sky's the limit.
- 6:02Speaker 2: I think they're showing that we could really branch out
- 6:04Speaker 2: with the chocolate frog business and really have a lot
- 6:07Speaker 2: of flavors. And I hope they do that.
- 6:13Speaker 1: And I just had to bring up I know this
- 6:15Speaker 1: isn't like new, but the butter beer macron. I know
- 6:21Speaker 1: that you and I talked extensively about how disappointed we
- 6:25Speaker 1: were there was no butter beer macron, and then they
- 6:27Speaker 1: did it for butterbeer season this year. My friend McCormick
- 6:33Speaker 1: tasted it and I was like, I gotta know, like,
- 6:35Speaker 1: is it good? And she said it was one of
- 6:37Speaker 1: the best butter beer items that they brought. So I'm
- 6:41Speaker 1: really hoping it's like permanent and it stays because I
- 6:44Speaker 1: really want it.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Oh. I was really hoping that you know that she
- 6:49Speaker 2: was going to tell you it wasn't good so that
- 6:51Speaker 2: I could be like, oh, thank god I missed it
- 6:54Speaker 2: because butter I do feel like butter beer items can
- 6:56Speaker 2: be like hit or miss, Like last year was it
- 7:00Speaker 2: last year that I went during butterbeer season and I
- 7:02Speaker 2: got like the puff pastry and I really thought I
- 7:05Speaker 2: was gonna like it, but it was like I didn't
- 7:08Speaker 2: love it, and it was like, if I remember right,
- 7:10Speaker 2: it was either it was either sickingly sweet or it
- 7:13Speaker 2: was flavorless. I can't remember. It was one of the extremes,
- 7:16Speaker 2: but it just wasn't that great. And so I think
- 7:18Speaker 2: butter beer stuff can be hit or missed, so dash
- 7:21Speaker 2: darn it sad that they're great, but and I feel
- 7:25Speaker 2: like that they will keep it as like, because they're
- 7:28Speaker 2: really monopolizing on this butter beer season thing, so it
- 7:31Speaker 2: makes sense that they would be like, we're only going
- 7:34Speaker 2: to bring this item out every year for butter beer season.
- 7:37Speaker 1: But it really should be permanent, because how can you
- 7:40Speaker 1: have a pumpkin juice macarn and not a butter beer one.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Well, and I feel like when they first when we
- 7:48Speaker 2: first started learning about the food items, I swear there
- 7:51Speaker 2: was a butter beer one there from the beginning.
- 7:54Speaker 1: I think we made this up.
- 7:57Speaker 2: I mean, maybe we're confusing it with like the butter beer,
- 8:00Speaker 2: but like I don't think so. Like I swear there
- 8:03Speaker 2: was a butterbeer Mac or maybe not. I swear that
- 8:06Speaker 2: we were talking about that they should do it, and
- 8:08Speaker 2: then they announced that they were doing them. I don't know. Well,
- 8:13Speaker 2: hopefully either way, at least we know they do exist
- 8:17Speaker 2: in some form at some point in time. McCormick, if
- 8:21Speaker 2: you're listening, I'm glad they were great and no one
- 8:28Speaker 2: day hopefully we'll we'll try them. And then we did
- 8:34Speaker 2: learn just a little bit of show news that the
- 8:38Speaker 2: actress who's playing Ginny Weasley will not be returning after
- 8:42Speaker 2: season one. So we learned that Ginny will be recast
- 8:46Speaker 2: for or starting like with season two of the Harry
- 8:49Speaker 2: Potter TV series, as Gracie will not be returning due
- 8:54Speaker 2: to quote unforeseen circumstances.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Yeah, this is a shame, but like I said, at
- 9:04Speaker 1: least it's happening after season one and not season two.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Because right, it's not like in season two.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Yeah, she doesn't have a ton of scenes in season one,
- 9:17Speaker 1: so like.
- 9:17Speaker 2: I mean, I think like, yeah, I mean, other than
- 9:21Speaker 2: probably like the scene we saw, like we see in
- 9:23Speaker 2: the teaser, like at the train, and maybe if there's
- 9:26Speaker 2: any quick little things of her on at Home, But yeah,
- 9:30Speaker 2: I don't think that she would have had like a
- 9:32Speaker 2: really big role in that first even anyways, so hopefully
- 9:37Speaker 2: it won't be too much of yeah, of a change,
- 9:39Speaker 2: but yeah, I mean, unfortunately, these things like do happen.
- 9:43Speaker 2: I don't think that she will be the first actor
- 9:48Speaker 2: or actress that we might see replaced over the course
- 9:50Speaker 2: of the series, especially given how long the series is
- 9:53Speaker 2: supposed to span and how many years it does happen.
- 9:58Speaker 1: So that's hard when you're dealing with it's because not
- 10:02Speaker 1: only are you dealing with them in their lives, but
- 10:04Speaker 1: their family's lives. So you know, if something happens in
- 10:08Speaker 1: the family and the case, you can't do it anymore. Like, yeah,
- 10:13Speaker 1: it's it's hard, but.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Yeah, but yeah, but again, like we said, it's yeah,
- 10:20Speaker 2: it's at least it's kind of early on and yeah,
- 10:23Speaker 2: and I think we just hope that the unforeseen circumstances
- 10:26Speaker 2: are nothing bad or nothing nothing points that it is that.
- 10:30Speaker 2: But yeah, things just life happens. Life happens. The cat
- 10:39Speaker 2: upstairs is just running around. So if you can hear
- 10:42Speaker 2: like a horse, stop, it's the upstairs kit just a cat.
- 10:47Speaker 2: It's just the cat sounds like the a pack of
- 10:51Speaker 2: centaurs that we're going to be talking about later. Honestly,
- 10:54Speaker 2: there you go, setting the mood, setting the mood. Anyways,
- 10:59Speaker 2: back to the news, So, min Alima has kind of
- 11:04Speaker 2: re entered the game a little bit here, very surprisingly
- 11:07Speaker 2: and announced that they're going to be releasing a tabletop
- 11:11Speaker 2: board game called Defenders of Hogwarts. And I can't say
- 11:16Speaker 2: that this was ever on my bingo card for me
- 11:20Speaker 2: and a Lima No, but I don't hate it whatsoever.
- 11:28Speaker 2: So there's still a lot we don't know about this game,
- 11:30Speaker 2: but there we get a little bit of a background
- 11:34Speaker 2: of what the game is going to be about in
- 11:35Speaker 2: their announcement post on Instagram, and it says, in Defenders
- 11:39Speaker 2: of Hogwarts, the famed School of Witchcraft and Wizardry has
- 11:42Speaker 2: been infiltrated by death Eaters and Dark Forces. You must
- 11:47Speaker 2: make a choice. Represent your house and defend your school,
- 11:50Speaker 2: or join the Dark Forces to ensure Lord Valdemore's victory.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Choose wisely, for this battle will have the power to
- 11:57Speaker 2: determine the fate of Hogwarts. Kind of sounds like we're
- 12:01Speaker 2: going time travel a little bit and completely change the
- 12:04Speaker 2: outcome of what happened but yeah, that's all we kind
- 12:09Speaker 2: of really know right now. It looks like the game
- 12:12Speaker 2: is going to be available soon on Kickstarter, so it's
- 12:15Speaker 2: going to start there and you can sign up to
- 12:19Speaker 2: learn more. There's a link in the bio on Mina
- 12:22Speaker 2: A Lima's Instagram page. So really interested to see if
- 12:26Speaker 2: eventually it makes it beyond Kickstarter onto like regular retail.
- 12:34Speaker 2: But yeah, I mean I think I could see it
- 12:37Speaker 2: doing well on Kickstarter, like a lot of people, obviously
- 12:41Speaker 2: we are big fans of min A Lima and yeah,
- 12:48Speaker 2: we'll see but exciting news. Exciting news me and Alima's
- 12:52Speaker 2: back in the game with something new, like you know,
- 12:54Speaker 2: with not going to replace ours, not going to replace
- 12:59Speaker 2: our book that we wish that was so main Liama.
- 13:01Speaker 1: But yeah, interesting, yeah, so I.
- 13:08Speaker 2: Mean as we learn more about that, you'll hear about
- 13:10Speaker 2: it here. And the last couple of things are a
- 13:15Speaker 2: little bit of like audio things, which if you're listening
- 13:19Speaker 2: to this podcast, you probably like listening to audio things.
- 13:23Speaker 2: The first two episodes of Harry Potter the Official Film
- 13:27Speaker 2: podcasts are now streaming on HBO Max, or you can
- 13:30Speaker 2: listen to the audio only versions on all major platforms
- 13:34Speaker 2: such as Apple, Music and Spotify, so continue listening to us,
- 13:39Speaker 2: of course. But there's also the official podcast, which I
- 13:42Speaker 2: think we had announced when they announced it, and I
- 13:44Speaker 2: didn't really, I don't. I didn't think I realized it
- 13:46Speaker 2: was already going to be out. I was really surprised
- 13:48Speaker 2: when I saw this. I wasn't expecting it to already
- 13:50Speaker 2: be out. And then, yeah, if you're looking for even
- 13:56Speaker 2: more to listen to, we are at the point. We're
- 13:58Speaker 2: all seven full cast audio editions are now available on Audible.
- 14:03Speaker 2: I got I think it was like last week or something.
- 14:05Speaker 2: I got my email that my Deathly Hallow's pre order
- 14:08Speaker 2: was available, and we've made it. They're all here. I
- 14:12Speaker 2: still have to finish listening to sorcers Stone, but I
- 14:14Speaker 2: will get through all of them eventually. I have them
- 14:17Speaker 2: all purchased, and I think I've got a lot of
- 14:21Speaker 2: you know, sorting through the apartment to do, and I
- 14:25Speaker 2: think it'll be a great time to slap on the
- 14:29Speaker 2: audio dramas. But I'm still going to put in a
- 14:32Speaker 2: plug for them if you haven't purchased them or listen
- 14:34Speaker 2: to them yet. They're really, really great. So they are
- 14:37Speaker 2: now all available. Cool, and really that's kind of all
- 14:41Speaker 2: for the news.

- 15:07Speaker 1: All right, so for our main discussion, we are going
- 15:11Speaker 1: to talk about stars and planets and constellations and all
- 15:16Speaker 1: that good stuff in the night sky and how it
- 15:19Speaker 1: pertains to Harry Potter. So before we jump in, just
- 15:25Speaker 1: to kind of go through the differences here between like
- 15:30Speaker 1: astronomy and astrology, because sometimes that gets confusing. Astronomy is
- 15:37Speaker 1: a natural science and the study of the physical stars, planets, galaxies,
- 15:42Speaker 1: black holes, et cetera, and is evidence based. Astrology is
- 15:49Speaker 1: a pseudoscience, or a belief system in which positions and
- 15:52Speaker 1: movements of celestial bodies directly influence human lives and earthly events.
- 16:01Speaker 1: We see both of these used throughout the books. Obviously
- 16:04Speaker 1: there are astronomy classes. Astrology kind of aligns a little
- 16:09Speaker 1: bit more with like divination and the centaurs and their
- 16:13Speaker 1: branch of that, So yeah, a little bit of both.
- 16:20Speaker 1: And then Star Loar. Star Loar is the stories in
- 16:25Speaker 1: the mythology of how constellations or stars came to be
- 16:29Speaker 1: in the sky, and the most familiar to us in
- 16:33Speaker 1: the Western world are usually from Greek and Roman stories,
- 16:38Speaker 1: but cultures around the globe have had legends to explain
- 16:42Speaker 1: the stars and their placement for ever. So there's a
- 16:47Speaker 1: lot of star war out there.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Which makes sense, right, because if you think about the past,
- 16:53Speaker 2: and like, all you really had was like the night
- 16:57Speaker 2: sky and the stars, and so it only made sense
- 17:00Speaker 2: that over time things like starlar and astrology came to
- 17:04Speaker 2: be because as humans, we love to develop things to
- 17:07Speaker 2: explain things we can't explain, right, And so you you know,
- 17:10Speaker 2: you're literally laying there watching all these stars and seeing
- 17:12Speaker 2: these things, and it seemed only natural that these things
- 17:16Speaker 2: would develop. And I think now that we are in
- 17:20Speaker 2: a place where we're in homes and we have electricity
- 17:22Speaker 2: and maybe we're not stargazing as much, we're like losing
- 17:24Speaker 2: that a little bit. But you know, so I love
- 17:28Speaker 2: whenever I used to have an app on my phone
- 17:30Speaker 2: that followed like my like was astrology based and like
- 17:34Speaker 2: not that, and it's always fun to read it and
- 17:36Speaker 2: be like, wow, this really applies to me. Even if
- 17:38Speaker 2: I still agree that it's like a pseudoscience, I think
- 17:41Speaker 2: it's still really fun.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely, And I love Starlar, Like I feel like
- 17:47Speaker 1: my introduction to Greek mythology was through Starlar, so I think, yeah,
- 17:54Speaker 1: it's always fun to revisit those stories. So just to
- 18:00Speaker 1: mention real quick, there is obviously astronomy class at Hogwarts
- 18:05Speaker 1: in which students study the night sky and they use
- 18:09Speaker 1: that natural science discipline. In astronomy class, they use their telescopes,
- 18:14Speaker 1: they locate the stars, the planets, constellations, they chart them. Interestingly,
- 18:23Speaker 1: there really doesn't seem to be a magical twist to
- 18:26Speaker 1: this class. It seems to be very much astronomy in
- 18:31Speaker 1: the Muggle sense as well. So it's kind of interesting
- 18:35Speaker 1: that like which is in Wizards see the importance of
- 18:40Speaker 1: that science.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Well, and I think that it's I mean, I think
- 18:45Speaker 2: it makes complete sense that which is a Wizards would
- 18:50Speaker 2: be so interested in something like astronomy. And I think
- 18:55Speaker 2: and we know too, and I think we talked about
- 18:57Speaker 2: it a little bit more and depth, and we did,
- 18:59Speaker 2: like our Partment of Mysteries episode like way back, like obviously,
- 19:03Speaker 2: one of the rooms in the Department of mysteries is
- 19:05Speaker 2: like space, So yeah, there's definitely a interest there. And yeah,
- 19:12Speaker 2: again I think it just magic space. I think it's
- 19:16Speaker 2: it's just I think they go hand in hand. But
- 19:19Speaker 2: I do think it's really interesting that it is like
- 19:22Speaker 2: the only class like at Hogwarts that is really like
- 19:26Speaker 2: comparable to like what a class we would have in
- 19:29Speaker 2: the Muggle world is, and that there isn't really this
- 19:32Speaker 2: magical twist on it.
- 19:37Speaker 1: I guess, like the only the only way there could
- 19:40Speaker 1: really be a magical twist, I guess is like thinking
- 19:43Speaker 1: about some of the plants that we discussed last episode,
- 19:48Speaker 1: and how like if those ingredients are picked at a
- 19:51Speaker 1: certain point, like under a full moon or like whatever, like,
- 19:57Speaker 1: their effects are different. So maybe that' like one of
- 20:00Speaker 1: the reasons why they study astronomy because it does affect
- 20:04Speaker 1: other magical disciplines.
- 20:06Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Obviously, divination uses the stars in a very different way,
- 20:19Speaker 1: but we'll kind of get to that a little bit later.
- 20:24Speaker 1: So obviously, when we talk about Harry Potter and the
- 20:28Speaker 1: Night Sky, there's certain characters in their names that come
- 20:32Speaker 1: up that you know, through the years we all learned
- 20:38Speaker 1: their relation to stars and things. This was a big
- 20:43Speaker 1: one when the books were actively coming out and people
- 20:46Speaker 1: were trying to get whatever clue they could possibly get
- 20:49Speaker 1: about what could happen to certain characters. Diving into kind
- 20:55Speaker 1: of the meaning behind the names was one of those
- 20:59Speaker 1: methods people we're trying to use to gather some hints.
- 21:03Speaker 1: So some of these character names that are tied to
- 21:06Speaker 1: stars and constellations you probably already know about. Some of
- 21:12Speaker 1: them are a little bit more in depth and I
- 21:17Speaker 1: think maybe not quite so common knowledge, So those are
- 21:21Speaker 1: interesting as well, But we're going to go through some
- 21:23Speaker 1: of these. So, uh, first, up Remus Lupin, which we
- 21:29Speaker 1: talked about quite extensively a few episodes ago, and we
- 21:34Speaker 1: did talk about the etymology of Lupin's name on that
- 21:37Speaker 1: episode as well, but I thought it was important to
- 21:40Speaker 1: note here in line with our discussion that Lupin is
- 21:44Speaker 1: derived from Lupus, which is the name of the wolf constellation,
- 21:52Speaker 1: so he is relevant to our discussion. And then another Marauder,
- 22:01Speaker 1: Serious Black. I feel like this is the one that
- 22:04Speaker 1: everyone knows right Serious or the Dog Star is known
- 22:08Speaker 1: as the brightest star in the sky and is located
- 22:11Speaker 1: in the constellation known as Canis Major or the Great dog,
- 22:16Speaker 1: so obviously serious anime is form. It's a dog, this
- 22:22Speaker 1: makes sense.
- 22:25Speaker 2: And he is the brightest star in the sky. Here's
- 22:28Speaker 2: the brightest star in my sky.
- 22:36Speaker 1: The Black Family in general really liked naming after stars
- 22:41Speaker 1: because we have Sirius's brother, Regulus, who is named after
- 22:46Speaker 1: two stars. Actually, so Regulus is the brightest star in
- 22:53Speaker 1: the Leo constellation and our tourists is the brightest star
- 22:59Speaker 1: in the constellation. I think that's how you say it, Boots,
- 23:04Speaker 1: I don't know. Probably so. The Leo constellation is thought
- 23:14Speaker 1: to be the form of a lion, representing the Nieman
- 23:17Speaker 1: lion from Greek mythology, which we did talk about a
- 23:20Speaker 1: little bit last episode. But to recap, Hercules was tasked
- 23:25Speaker 1: with defeating the Nieman lion, which had magical golden fur
- 23:30Speaker 1: that weapons could not penetrate. So to defeat the beast,
- 23:34Speaker 1: Hercules went into a cave and fought it in hand
- 23:37Speaker 1: to hand combat. Interestingly, this battle takes place in a
- 23:43Speaker 1: cave and involves fighting something that can't be killed with
- 23:47Speaker 1: ordinary weapons, sort of like a certain impenetrable locket. The
- 23:54Speaker 1: Regulus encounters a little bit of.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Foreshadowing, foreshadowing of his fate I think so.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Mm so, then a little bit of like astrology here.
- 24:06Speaker 1: So Leo star signs are generally considered charismatic with a
- 24:11Speaker 1: desire to stand out. They are considered to be generous
- 24:14Speaker 1: and loyal. A weakness of theirs is to be attention seeking, arrogant,
- 24:20Speaker 1: and or stubborn, which I feel like a lot of
- 24:25Speaker 1: this applies to Regulus.
- 24:27Speaker 2: I think so too.
- 24:31Speaker 1: So that kind of explains Regulus's first name and it's
- 24:35Speaker 1: star namesake. The second name Arcturists. So the Booths constellation
- 24:43Speaker 1: is of a herdsman or a plowman. And there are
- 24:47Speaker 1: a few different myths of how this constellation came to be,
- 24:51Speaker 1: but the most likely reference here involves are tourists and
- 24:57Speaker 1: that story. According to Greek mythology, Arcus was the son
- 25:02Speaker 1: of Zeus and Callisto, and Arcus was raised by his
- 25:06Speaker 1: grandfather Lichen. One day, Zeus went to Lichen's house for dinner, and,
- 25:14Speaker 1: in a very super messed up quest to determine if
- 25:18Speaker 1: his guest was really the King of the gods or not,
- 25:21Speaker 1: Lican kills his grandson Arcus and serves Zeus a meal
- 25:26Speaker 1: made of his flesh. Totally normal family dynamic, nothing weird here. Uh,
- 25:36Speaker 1: Zeus noticed what happened here, and he gets so mad
- 25:40Speaker 1: and he turns like it into a wolf like anthropy
- 25:46Speaker 1: and gave life back to his son. But meanwhile it
- 25:51Speaker 1: gets weirder. Arcus, his mother, Callisto, had been transformed into
- 25:58Speaker 1: a bear by Zeus's wife Harrah, because she was mad
- 26:00Speaker 1: about the infidelity.
- 26:04Speaker 2: This is really I mean, and she can't be mad.
- 26:07Speaker 2: I mean, Zeus has like how many kids with how
- 26:09Speaker 2: many people? Like we need to get beyond the infidelity.
- 26:15Speaker 1: I think he's the problem. Yeah, yeah, so turns Klosto
- 26:21Speaker 1: into a bear. Callisto almost gets killed by her son
- 26:27Speaker 1: because he was out hunting and you know, saw a
- 26:29Speaker 1: bear and yeah, almost killed her. So to keep both
- 26:33Speaker 1: of them safe, Zeus places them in the sky. Callisto
- 26:38Speaker 1: would become the constellation of Ursa major, and Arcus was
- 26:42Speaker 1: placed nearby in the boost constellation. Arcturus is the brightest
- 26:48Speaker 1: star in that constellation and often referred to as bear Watcher.
- 26:54Speaker 1: So he's supposed to be kind of like standing by,
- 26:57Speaker 1: like protecting his mother. Yeah.
- 27:03Speaker 2: Interesting, Yeah, I don't know, like if that one has
- 27:08Speaker 2: a really good one to one applicability to Regulus, but yeah, interesting.
- 27:18Speaker 1: I don't know about Regulus's grandfather, but like, I would
- 27:21Speaker 1: hope that he didn't try to kill him. And surfing
- 27:23Speaker 1: for dinner. Yeah, that's one of the more wild myths.
- 27:33Speaker 2: I mean, maybe maybe the author just liked that story
- 27:38Speaker 2: and wanted to throw.
- 27:40Speaker 1: Well, this is weird.
- 27:44Speaker 2: I know how to throw them off. Let's throw this
- 27:46Speaker 2: name in. Oh gosh, well she had to get an
- 27:50Speaker 2: a name, right, so like and if and I think
- 27:53Speaker 2: if you're like, if you've already decided you're going to
- 27:57Speaker 2: follow stars and you're going to get the Black family
- 28:01Speaker 2: star names, and you're like, well, I need a because
- 28:05Speaker 2: I wonder if rab came before the name, which it
- 28:09Speaker 2: could have, and then you're like, what stars start with A? Yeah,
- 28:14Speaker 2: and our tourists just kind of actually works pretty well
- 28:17Speaker 2: as a name, so it might not have any other
- 28:19Speaker 2: implication other than just it was the thing that worked.
- 28:23Speaker 1: So then obviously we've got Andromeda. So Andromeda black slash
- 28:30Speaker 1: tonks Andrameda is a constellation meant to depict the Greek
- 28:36Speaker 1: mythological princess of the same name. In Greek mythology, Andromeda's mother, Cassiopeia,
- 28:45Speaker 1: brags that she and her daughter are more beautiful than
- 28:48Speaker 1: the near its se nymps Incensed another angry god, Poseidon,
- 28:56Speaker 1: sends a sea monster to ravage the coastline, and in
- 29:02Speaker 1: Drameda becomes the human sacrifice, and she has chained to
- 29:06Speaker 1: a rock to appease the gods. But before the sea
- 29:10Speaker 1: monster can come and eat her, she's rescued by Perseus,
- 29:16Speaker 1: who is on his way back from his quest to
- 29:18Speaker 1: kill Medusa, and so he uses the head of Medusa
- 29:22Speaker 1: to petrify the sea monster, and Perseus and Andromeda get married.
- 29:29Speaker 1: So there's a happy ending to this strange family dynamic too.
- 29:34Speaker 2: Which I think is not common in Greek stories. They
- 29:40Speaker 2: have a They're known as tragedies for a reason. So
- 29:44Speaker 2: I'm glad that this one had a happy ending, which
- 29:48Speaker 2: I do feel like, I guess if we want to
- 29:51Speaker 2: compare this to like TNKS, I think that, I mean,
- 29:59Speaker 2: I feel like she both did and didn't have a
- 30:02Speaker 2: happy ending, obviously. I think there is this happy ending
- 30:05Speaker 2: in that she like finds this family with you know,
- 30:10Speaker 2: with Remus, and they have Teddy and all of that,
- 30:13Speaker 2: and she just, you know, I feel like, has always
- 30:17Speaker 2: felt kind of like this outsider and everything with and
- 30:21Speaker 2: then finds this family, right, But then obviously we do
- 30:25Speaker 2: know kind of has a little bit of a tragic
- 30:27Speaker 2: ending with dying during the Battle of Hogwarts.
- 30:30Speaker 1: So I think too in pertaining to Andromeda Black, obviously
- 30:39Speaker 1: Andromeda's mother, well family in general, they disowned her, right,
- 30:46Speaker 1: so you've got that element as well, that's kind of
- 30:49Speaker 1: the same and like casting them off and be like
- 30:53Speaker 1: right bye. Yeah. So then we get to Bellatrix as well,
- 31:04Speaker 1: and Drameda's sister. So Bellatrix is the name of the
- 31:09Speaker 1: third brightest star in the O'Brien constellation. And I just
- 31:15Speaker 1: found it interesting that we have Regulus and Serious who
- 31:18Speaker 1: are named for the brightest stars in their constellations, but
- 31:23Speaker 1: Bellatrix is only the third brightest in hers.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Yeah signe Bellatrix.
- 31:31Speaker 1: Yeah, No, is this just another one of those you know,
- 31:35Speaker 1: good over evil, the good is brighter?
- 31:38Speaker 2: No, I think it does kind of Like I mean,
- 31:41Speaker 2: it could have also have been like what I said before,
- 31:44Speaker 2: that like Bellatrix was just the coolest name to you there,
- 31:47Speaker 2: which I mean I can't imagine like another name for her, right,
- 31:50Speaker 2: it just works. But I do think that for sure
- 31:53Speaker 2: it could be like a foreshadowing of because yeah, Regulus
- 31:57Speaker 2: and serious are both good. She's not, so I think
- 32:02Speaker 2: that there might be something there.
- 32:05Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, So another interesting note, Bellatrix. The star marks
- 32:12Speaker 1: Orion's right shoulder, the left from the viewer's perspective from
- 32:17Speaker 1: the Earth, but if you were Orion himself, it is
- 32:21Speaker 1: the right shoulder. And we know Bellatrix is the right
- 32:24Speaker 1: hand woman to Voldemort, so that's kind of cool. The
- 32:30Speaker 1: name also means female warrior, which makes sense. According to
- 32:37Speaker 1: writings by Ptolemy, Bellatrix is associated with the planetary energies
- 32:42Speaker 1: of Mars and Mercury, which in astrological beliefs means a
- 32:48Speaker 1: mixture of thinking fast and acting fast. Mars is associated
- 32:53Speaker 1: with drive, willpower, and physical energy or exertion, while Mercury
- 32:58Speaker 1: is associated with the mind, intellect, and communication.
- 33:03Speaker 2: That makes sense, and we'll talk about Mars a little
- 33:06Speaker 2: bit more later. But it's also very much associated with war,
- 33:11Speaker 2: which again fits her female warrior. Yeah bad, just wanting
- 33:18Speaker 2: to be engaged in warlike things.
- 33:23Speaker 1: And I thought this was interesting too, just because she
- 33:26Speaker 1: is very much like a knee jerk reaction kind of character, Like.
- 33:32Speaker 2: Yeah, thinking fast and acting fast, I think that does
- 33:35Speaker 2: describe her.
- 33:36Speaker 1: Yeah, and then we've got Draco Malfoy. Draco is the
- 33:46Speaker 1: name for the constellation of the same name, which forms
- 33:50Speaker 1: the shape of a dragon in the nice sky. In
- 33:54Speaker 1: Greek mythology, the dragon guarded the golden apples that Hercules
- 33:58Speaker 1: had to steal as part of his lates. The dragon
- 34:02Speaker 1: was defeated by Hercules and placed in the sky by Harra,
- 34:06Speaker 1: who was trying to honor that the dragon you know,
- 34:10Speaker 1: kind of did her bidding and such. In Roman myths,
- 34:16Speaker 1: Draco is one of the titans who fought Olympian gods.
- 34:21Speaker 1: Minerva or you know, the Greek Athena. Minerva's the Roman
- 34:26Speaker 1: equivalent of that, defeated the dragon. She grabbed it by
- 34:31Speaker 1: its tail and threw it into the sky, where it
- 34:35Speaker 1: came to rest as a constellation. So a couple stories
- 34:41Speaker 1: to explain Draco. The Draco constellation also used to house
- 34:48Speaker 1: the Earth's north star Supin, but due to the Earth's
- 34:53Speaker 1: swabbling access that star is no longer located at the pole.
- 35:02Speaker 2: And I don't, yeah, I think this one is like
- 35:04Speaker 2: harder to kind of like, I think see like a
- 35:06Speaker 2: connection to Draco other than the name Draco just being
- 35:11Speaker 2: like a really cool.
- 35:12Speaker 1: Name pretty much. Yeah, I don't know. I mean, I guess,
- 35:21Speaker 1: like if you want to think about him like fighting
- 35:27Speaker 1: a losing battle, I guess it kind of works with
- 35:30Speaker 1: like the Roman mess. Well, I guess in both situations, right,
- 35:35Speaker 1: the dragon doesn't win m either time. I mean, I
- 35:43Speaker 1: guess you could kind of see Dumbledore as like an
- 35:49Speaker 1: Olympian god if you wanted to go that parallel of
- 35:52Speaker 1: like Draco. Yea, but ye didn't work.
- 36:00Speaker 2: Yeah owh Draco was one of the Titans who fought
- 36:06Speaker 2: the Olympic gods. Okay, yeah, yes, yeah. And I was
- 36:11Speaker 2: thinking too about the in like the Greek aspect of
- 36:16Speaker 2: the dragon, like guarding something, and like I feel like
- 36:21Speaker 2: right now my brain's not working enough to like really
- 36:24Speaker 2: think of like that connection, but there's something like standing
- 36:26Speaker 2: out to me about that where it's like possibly like
- 36:32Speaker 2: and defeated by hercules, like possibly, Like I don't know,
- 36:36Speaker 2: I just something about there thinks about like Draco and
- 36:39Speaker 2: Harry and like, but I don't know.
- 36:42Speaker 1: What, almost like guarding like his family legacy, right like
- 36:48Speaker 1: he just trying to kind of like uphold that old
- 36:51Speaker 1: way of thinking that he was raised in.
- 36:55Speaker 2: And I and actually if we want to insert herse
- 36:58Speaker 2: child here because here I am incerting chirst Child. That
- 37:03Speaker 2: actually works even really well too, because I think that
- 37:06Speaker 2: when we get to see Draco's kind of progression as
- 37:10Speaker 2: an adult and as a father, and I think that,
- 37:17Speaker 2: and I don't know if my brain's going to take
- 37:19Speaker 2: me to articulate where I want to go, so hopefully
- 37:22Speaker 2: everyone else is just kind of following me here, not
- 37:24Speaker 2: necessarily that Draco's like defeated by Harry, but like they
- 37:30Speaker 2: kind of start to have mutual understanding with each other
- 37:34Speaker 2: and Curse Child, and I think that it is more that,
- 37:37Speaker 2: like they both bend, but it's more that, like I
- 37:41Speaker 2: think we see that bend more from Draco, like Harry's Harry,
- 37:46Speaker 2: like he's his character is like pretty set where I
- 37:48Speaker 2: think like Draco has more of like a character progression
- 37:51Speaker 2: as he gets older, and he has like kind of
- 37:52Speaker 2: like this redemption arc, right, And I think that Harry
- 37:57Speaker 2: almost like indirectly affects like his redemption arc a little bit.
- 38:02Speaker 2: Don't know what I'm saying makes sense at all. Hopefully
- 38:04Speaker 2: somebody listening is picking it up. But I think that
- 38:07Speaker 2: like Harry is pretty instrumental to like Draco's story, even
- 38:13Speaker 2: if he doesn't want to like, admit it. Yeah, hopefully
- 38:19Speaker 2: that made sense. Brain's not really working this morning. Hopefully
- 38:22Speaker 2: that made sense.
- 38:27Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean it's interesting you bring up Kursechild because
- 38:32Speaker 1: Scorpius is also on my list.
- 38:34Speaker 2: Right, of course, that's why not.
- 38:38Speaker 1: So in Greek mythology, the Scorpius constellation represents the giant
- 38:45Speaker 1: scorpion that Gaya is sent to sting and kill Obrian.
- 38:50Speaker 1: As enemies, Scorpius and Orion the Hunter are placed on
- 38:54Speaker 1: opposite side of the sky from each other, and when
- 38:57Speaker 1: Scorpius rises in the summer, Orian set in vice versa
- 39:01Speaker 1: with the change of seasons, so the two are never
- 39:04Speaker 1: in the sky together at the same time. I just
- 39:11Speaker 1: immediately thought of the Scorpion king and the alternate timeline
- 39:16Speaker 1: and how he's basically used as a tool, like to
- 39:21Speaker 1: do the bidding of someone else, right, so kind of
- 39:25Speaker 1: like that scorpion in its relation to Gaya. So yeah,
- 39:34Speaker 1: I think there's also something to this, like not being
- 39:39Speaker 1: in the sky at the same time as your opposite
- 39:45Speaker 1: and I think that's like Scorpius and Elvis obviously are
- 39:49Speaker 1: not enemies, but I think that there's a similar kind
- 39:53Speaker 1: of representation there in that like when they're trying to
- 39:58Speaker 1: be kept apart. You know, they're not in the sky
- 40:03Speaker 1: at the same time or whatever, kept apart. So yeah,
- 40:10Speaker 1: So this next one I think is probably the most
- 40:14Speaker 1: interesting on this list to me, and that is Marobi
- 40:18Speaker 1: Gaunt and I feel like we need to have a
- 40:22Speaker 1: deep dive discussion on Marobi because she's fascinating. Like, I
- 40:29Speaker 1: hope the TV show gives us more Morobi because.
- 40:32Speaker 2: Well, and I think I said that before, those are
- 40:33Speaker 2: like some of my favorite chapters and part of the
- 40:37Speaker 2: reason why I just really like Half Blood Prints is
- 40:40Speaker 2: like just the exploration of all of that stuff. So
- 40:43Speaker 2: I mean, we're definitely going to get it. It's like drama,
- 40:45Speaker 2: it's it's HBO like so interesting. Yeah, we should do
- 40:49Speaker 2: a character deep dive on her and what we have.
- 40:53Speaker 1: Yeah, so Marobi. I feel like this is the one
- 40:57Speaker 1: that a lot of people don't realize has a connection
- 41:00Speaker 1: to stars. But Maropi is known as the Faintest Sister
- 41:07Speaker 1: as it's a very faint star in the Plates or
- 41:11Speaker 1: Seven Sisters star cluster, and this star cluster is located
- 41:16Speaker 1: within the Taurus constellation. According to Greek legend, Mropi is
- 41:25Speaker 1: the faintest star because she was the only sister out
- 41:28Speaker 1: of the seven to marry a mere mortal. Sound familiar,
- 41:34Speaker 1: Murropi marries a muggle, so there's our tie in there.
- 41:41Speaker 1: So Maropi the Star is also sometimes referred to as
- 41:46Speaker 1: the Lost Plates and basically Marobi's said to be the
- 41:53Speaker 1: faintest because she hides her face in shame in his
- 41:59Speaker 1: life lost as a result because she's so faint. There
- 42:06Speaker 1: could be a few different interpretations as to reasons why
- 42:10Speaker 1: she's so ashamed. You know, either that's because she's ashamed
- 42:15Speaker 1: that she married immortal and shamed her family, or maybe
- 42:20Speaker 1: she's ashamed of who her husband is because in Greek mythology,
- 42:24Speaker 1: her husband Sisyphus, was not the best guy. Neither was
- 42:33Speaker 1: Tom Riddle argue right, But in the legend, Maropi's husband, Sisyphus,
- 42:42Speaker 1: was the king of Corinth. Sisyphis famously brought the wrath
- 42:46Speaker 1: of Zeus because of a lifetime of crimes such as
- 42:50Speaker 1: self importance, betrayal, and trickery. He was punished and made
- 42:57Speaker 1: to roll a giant boulder to the top of mountain
- 42:59Speaker 1: in tard over and over and over again for all eternity.
- 43:06Speaker 1: I feel like what we see of the Muggle Tom
- 43:10Speaker 1: Riddle is that he also kind of has some of
- 43:13Speaker 1: these traits of being like a little full of himself
- 43:16Speaker 1: and like, you know, so that's.
- 43:21Speaker 2: Interesting, and then it must be a genetic thing, because
- 43:25Speaker 2: I think we see that passed right on.
- 43:29Speaker 1: He got more than just his father's name. And it's
- 43:32Speaker 1: interesting because he was so mad that he got his
- 43:35Speaker 1: father's name.
- 43:35Speaker 2: But really, you know, you.
- 43:38Speaker 1: Can change your name, you can change your clothes, change
- 43:42Speaker 1: your mind. Where it ghost.
- 43:45Speaker 2: I literally heard it as soon as you said it.
- 43:48Speaker 2: It just in my brain. The lyrics, the music, it
- 43:51Speaker 2: was all there.
- 43:52Speaker 1: Good. See that's what I was going for.
- 43:55Speaker 2: But true, I mean, yeah, I think that's pretty applicable
- 44:00Speaker 2: to Baltimore. Sorry, honey, but you're pretty much like your dad.
- 44:06Speaker 1: Ye couldn't run from it. Also, I think like these
- 44:13Speaker 1: references to Marobi being lost and hiding her face, it
- 44:18Speaker 1: all works in regards to maro Bi gaunt as well.
- 44:21Speaker 1: I mean, she's literally trying to blend into the background
- 44:24Speaker 1: in her father's house. Like I was actually just listening
- 44:29Speaker 1: to the audio book in that chapter last night, and
- 44:33Speaker 1: it describes her as like blending into the wall behind her,
- 44:38Speaker 1: like her clothing blends in and everything else. So that's
- 44:43Speaker 1: kind of another reference to that lost Lady's thing.
- 44:51Speaker 2: I think too, Like just I think thinking about her,
- 44:57Speaker 2: like just what happened like in her life of just
- 45:01Speaker 2: feeling like I don't know, like just mentally and like
- 45:07Speaker 2: physically like beat down and just having like feeling very
- 45:12Speaker 2: like worthless, just being yeah, just I mean I think
- 45:17Speaker 2: just being in the miserable surroundings that she was in
- 45:20Speaker 2: and like her family, that it makes sense that she
- 45:22Speaker 2: would to all the points that you just made like
- 45:25Speaker 2: kind of yeah, like I don't know, like hide your
- 45:29Speaker 2: face and kind of fade into the background, or I
- 45:34Speaker 2: mean the way that the family like treated her, could
- 45:36Speaker 2: that have also like created like shame. I know we talked,
- 45:40Speaker 2: like you mentioned a little bit about what you said,
- 45:42Speaker 2: like you know, shamed by her family because of who
- 45:44Speaker 2: she married, and maybe shamed because of who her husband was,
- 45:47Speaker 2: but also like did she feel shame because of the
- 45:51Speaker 2: way that like her family treated her made her feel
- 45:54Speaker 2: like not even if there was nothing there to be
- 45:58Speaker 2: like shameful of, Like you just sometimes like I feel
- 46:02Speaker 2: like develop that if you're being treated a certain way, right, I.
- 46:06Speaker 1: Mean, they made her feel like she was totally worthless and.
- 46:09Speaker 2: Like right, right, and then you just I think then
- 46:12Speaker 2: those other emotions just kind of blend in, and so
- 46:16Speaker 2: you just you also blend in to the you know,
- 46:19Speaker 2: to the background. And I think that two with her
- 46:25Speaker 2: whole story, it kind of then I mean, obviously we
- 46:29Speaker 2: can talk about that more if we ever talk about her,
- 46:31Speaker 2: but just how then it transitioned into a fact of
- 46:34Speaker 2: her becoming like having this like obsessive like unrequited love, right,
- 46:40Speaker 2: and then the steps that she took to obtain right.
- 46:49Speaker 1: I think that's her trying to.
- 46:52Speaker 2: Being desperate for like affection, right, and feeling like you
- 46:56Speaker 2: can't like or feeling like we're talking about, like feeling
- 47:01Speaker 2: worthless and stuff like that. And if you're always in
- 47:03Speaker 2: the background and stuff like that, maybe you feel like
- 47:06Speaker 2: I'm not going to gain the attention of somebody, and
- 47:08Speaker 2: so I have to do something to force that attachment,
- 47:15Speaker 2: which I mean ultimately is what she does with the
- 47:17Speaker 2: love potion. Right.
- 47:18Speaker 1: So you got a wonder too, like if she could
- 47:24Speaker 1: be somewhere looking down on how everything turned out after
- 47:28Speaker 1: she's gone, Like did she feel shame about who her
- 47:33Speaker 1: son became? And the same of that situation that she
- 47:40Speaker 1: kind of put into.
- 47:41Speaker 2: Play manufactured Like I manufactured this love and then look
- 47:47Speaker 2: at what was born of this manufactured love, and now
- 47:51Speaker 2: that the byproduct of that manufactured love is now literally
- 47:56Speaker 2: reigning terror on the entire Wizarding World Lost lives. Yeah,
- 48:04Speaker 2: but it also is like, would any of that have
- 48:09Speaker 2: ever happened if her life growing up or whatever was
- 48:18Speaker 2: better and that it never needed to be this fading
- 48:24Speaker 2: into the background or feeling shamed by the family or
- 48:27Speaker 2: anything like that, Like if none of that had happened,
- 48:30Speaker 2: would she? Yeah, And it's just a whole what if.
- 48:33Speaker 1: If Tom Riddle wasn't what she perceived as her only
- 48:37Speaker 1: ticket out of that situation, then it would have never
- 48:42Speaker 1: never come to.
- 48:43Speaker 2: That, And in that she is the key to the
- 48:46Speaker 2: entire story. Look at that. Yeah, the faintest star becomes
- 48:55Speaker 2: the key to the story. M hm. No, very interesting,
- 49:06Speaker 2: and I think that I'm sure there's probably even some
- 49:09Speaker 2: other like little references to other stars and stuff too
- 49:12Speaker 2: that we didn't necessarily talk about or pick up on.
- 49:15Speaker 2: And yeah, very very interesting. The other thing that we
- 49:22Speaker 2: wanted to touch on this episode is obviously the centaurs,
- 49:26Speaker 2: because they're kind of our most obvious connection to astronomy,
- 49:34Speaker 2: astrology and how our wizarding world kind of operates obviously
- 49:40Speaker 2: by our wisten world, I mean the Harry Potter, but
- 49:43Speaker 2: it's ours, right, it's our stories, ours the only wizarding
- 49:48Speaker 2: world I know, so it's ours. So obviously, you know,
- 49:53Speaker 2: centaurs are as creatures half man, half horse, mystical beings.
- 50:00Speaker 2: It's very interesting because they are considered you know, beasts
- 50:05Speaker 2: in terms of the way that they're registered you know
- 50:08Speaker 2: with like the Ministry of Magic and all of that,
- 50:10Speaker 2: but are also said to basically have like you know,
- 50:13Speaker 2: human intelligence, and because of that, they're like very skilled
- 50:19Speaker 2: in divination and astronomy. They rely a lot on reading
- 50:25Speaker 2: the movements of the night sky in order to predict
- 50:27Speaker 2: the future. Due to this, I think, you know, centaurs
- 50:31Speaker 2: a lot of them could be very talented seers. Now
- 50:36Speaker 2: the question is like, are they a seer because they
- 50:39Speaker 2: can like read the night sky or were they just
- 50:41Speaker 2: a seer because of whatever makes which is in wizard
- 50:44Speaker 2: seers And they just think it's because they can read
- 50:46Speaker 2: the night sky? Who knows? Because I think we talked
- 50:50Speaker 2: about obviously, you know, you mentioned earlier astrology being kind
- 50:53Speaker 2: of like a pseudoscience, and the centaurs really are on
- 50:58Speaker 2: that like astrology style. So it's yeah, very interesting to
- 51:04Speaker 2: think about them as seers and like do they think
- 51:08Speaker 2: they're a seer for a reason differently than they are
- 51:10Speaker 2: a seer? Like, I don't know, just very a very
- 51:13Speaker 2: interesting circle.
- 51:14Speaker 1: I feel like centaurs, like I mean from like things
- 51:18Speaker 1: that like Forenzi says and stuff like, I feel like
- 51:20Speaker 1: they see themselves as not necessarily like Gift did with sight,
- 51:32Speaker 1: Like I feel like they just they see themselves as
- 51:35Speaker 1: holding the wisdom to be able to interpret it correct
- 51:40Speaker 1: and they yeah, they see kind of you know, seers
- 51:46Speaker 1: as witches and wizards as sort of a negative thing
- 51:49Speaker 1: like correct those sight silly seers.
- 51:53Speaker 2: Yeah, they don't know anything correct where. I think though,
- 51:57Speaker 2: that some of the centaurs might legitly be seers, and
- 52:02Speaker 2: exactly because they don't necessarily buy into the human magic
- 52:09Speaker 2: they're explaining they're seeing abilities as being based on what
- 52:13Speaker 2: they're reading in the stars and how they're interpreting the stars,
- 52:16Speaker 2: when in reality they might just actually literally be a seer,
- 52:20Speaker 2: but it's not necessarily the magic science that they believe
- 52:24Speaker 2: that they believe in or buy into. So Yeah, so
- 52:29Speaker 2: for them, you know, rather than you know, using something
- 52:33Speaker 2: like a crystal ball, like we mentioned, they interpret the
- 52:37Speaker 2: planetary and the stellar movements to track world events and
- 52:42Speaker 2: you know, foresee the future. And really the key distinction
- 52:47Speaker 2: between the like human study and practice of divination is
- 52:53Speaker 2: really focused on like day to day fortune telling, right Like,
- 52:57Speaker 2: we see that a lot when we're like looking at
- 53:00Speaker 2: divination class, right Like they're sitting there, they're using different
- 53:03Speaker 2: things like tea leaves and the crystal ball and everything
- 53:06Speaker 2: to try to just predict kind of random day to
- 53:10Speaker 2: day things. Whereas divination for the Centaurs is not really
- 53:18Speaker 2: about those day to day things. It's more about dedicating
- 53:21Speaker 2: a very long time, sometimes up to decades, to tracking
- 53:26Speaker 2: the different celestial bodies to try to predict larger world
- 53:29Speaker 2: changing events, wars, shifts in history, not so much those
- 53:34Speaker 2: little day to day kind of things. So when we
- 53:39Speaker 2: meet the Centaurs, who you know, live in the Forbidden
- 53:42Speaker 2: Forest on the grounds of Hogwarts, we see that, I mean,
- 53:47Speaker 2: they they talk and very vaguely, very vague comments. They
- 53:53Speaker 2: always seem to be eluding, you know, to seeing the
- 53:55Speaker 2: future a little bit. But actually if you really step
- 54:00Speaker 2: back and like dissect a little bit about what they're
- 54:04Speaker 2: actually saying. It might seem like very vague and silly
- 54:07Speaker 2: on the surface, but it actually they were pretty on
- 54:12Speaker 2: point with a lot of things here. So you know,
- 54:17Speaker 2: for example, we see like friends tell Harry that they're
- 54:21Speaker 2: faded to me again, and then they do. We see
- 54:26Speaker 2: like friends talk about like kind of like he calls
- 54:30Speaker 2: it a brief calm but like an intermission between the
- 54:33Speaker 2: first and the second Wizarding Wars, which again happens most
- 54:38Speaker 2: of our story, right. We kind of start our story
- 54:42Speaker 2: at the end of the First Wizarding War, and the
- 54:44Speaker 2: bulk of our books take place during this. I mean,
- 54:48Speaker 2: I wouldn't call it calm, especially for Harry. It's not
- 54:51Speaker 2: a very calm time at all. But in terms of
- 54:54Speaker 2: like a larger societal Wizarding War, it is this like
- 54:58Speaker 2: intermediary period where there are things brewing, right, and the
- 55:02Speaker 2: second vision in war is brewing, but it is this
- 55:05Speaker 2: like time of calm. It's a time of peace. It's
- 55:07Speaker 2: not a time of Baltimore being at his power and terrorizing.
- 55:13Speaker 2: So the Centaurs were really kind of correct there as well.
- 55:16Speaker 2: And also you know accurately predicted that, hey, this is
- 55:20Speaker 2: just a calm intermission. There's another war to come, which
- 55:24Speaker 2: obviously does happen. So the Centaurs also believe that kind
- 55:33Speaker 2: of going back to when we were just talking about
- 55:36Speaker 2: like their interpreting or the way that they practice, is
- 55:39Speaker 2: that they believe that they're just messengers and that it's
- 55:43Speaker 2: not their place to interfere with the predictions unless it
- 55:47Speaker 2: has been foreseen that they should interfere, which obviously, being
- 55:54Speaker 2: able to predict the future and see the future comes
- 55:58Speaker 2: with a high responsibility right of knowing what might happen
- 56:01Speaker 2: or and I think that in a lot of humans
- 56:07Speaker 2: would probably try to interfere, right. I think a lot
- 56:10Speaker 2: of like in in the real world, a lot of
- 56:16Speaker 2: stories about time travel or things like that involve humans
- 56:22Speaker 2: trying to go in and change events or having knowledge.
- 56:27Speaker 2: If they're from the future and they travel back in time,
- 56:31Speaker 2: they obviously kind of can predict the future because they
- 56:35Speaker 2: lived it, right, and we see them try to change it,
- 56:37Speaker 2: and what always happens. It never really works history, these
- 56:41Speaker 2: fixed points in time, they'll always happen. And so the
- 56:44Speaker 2: Centaurs I think, really had this like no, we are
- 56:47Speaker 2: not like meant doesn't matter what you know you're not
- 56:50Speaker 2: meant to meddle with it unless it tells you that
- 56:54Speaker 2: you're supposed to meddle with it, and then they will intervene.
- 56:59Speaker 2: So kind of back to what I mentioned before for
- 57:03Speaker 2: friends kind of explains you know, in the quote, he says,
- 57:06Speaker 2: as we watch the skuies for the great tides of
- 57:09Speaker 2: evil or change that are sometimes marked there, it may
- 57:12Speaker 2: take ten years to be sure of what we are seeing.
- 57:15Speaker 2: So yeah, if you want a quick prediction from the centaurs,
- 57:21Speaker 2: you're probably not going to get it because they need
- 57:24Speaker 2: to watch and track and see the trends. And yeah,
- 57:30Speaker 2: they're just they're in that they are in the game
- 57:33Speaker 2: of waiting and seeing what happens.
- 57:36Speaker 1: And I know this further proves that they're kind of
- 57:38Speaker 1: like not wanting to meddle so much because like, if
- 57:44Speaker 1: you're waiting ten years, by the time you actually find
- 57:47Speaker 1: out what's going to happen, there probably isn't time to meddle.
- 57:51Speaker 1: Like it's probably late, but.
- 57:53Speaker 2: That's probably already happened. It's in motion. And actually we
- 58:00Speaker 2: we do see that kind of in this next point
- 58:04Speaker 2: that I have here, Actually is that so I mentioned
- 58:06Speaker 2: earlier that Mars was going to come up again, and
- 58:10Speaker 2: Mars is very important to the centers, right because you know,
- 58:14Speaker 2: as we mentioned a lot of the things that they
- 58:16Speaker 2: like to predict is big events, big historical events, and
- 58:20Speaker 2: what are some of the biggest historical events. We have
- 58:23Speaker 2: war history class, what we jump from one war to
- 58:27Speaker 2: the next, So that is really what they're focused on.
- 58:30Speaker 2: And so their I feel like their favorite planet is Mars,
- 58:34Speaker 2: and what they track the most is Mars because Mars
- 58:37Speaker 2: predicts the things that they're most interested in predicting. Right,
- 58:40Speaker 2: So we learn from Forends that Mars is the quote
- 58:44Speaker 2: bringer of battle, and then also to kind of tie
- 58:48Speaker 2: this to Roman mythology, Mars is also like the god
- 58:51Speaker 2: of war. So again we just kind of see this
- 58:53Speaker 2: constant comparison to Mars and war. So we first see
- 58:59Speaker 2: the Center tours using Mars as like a foreshadowing thing
- 59:06Speaker 2: in Sorcerer's Stone when we first meet the sent I
- 59:08Speaker 2: mean literally, we first meet the Centaurs and they're immediately
- 59:11Speaker 2: foreshadowing things. So we have the centaur Ronan who is
- 59:16Speaker 2: just repeatedly saying, Mars is bright tonight, Mars is bright tonight,
- 59:20Speaker 2: and you know he says at one point it's unusually bright.
- 59:24Speaker 2: And this is in chapter fifteen, a sorcerer's stone called
- 59:27Speaker 2: you know, the Forbidden Forests. And this is how Ronan,
- 59:31Speaker 2: you know, responds when Hagrid asks him. You know, they're
- 59:33Speaker 2: in the forest, they're trying to find the hurt unicorn,
- 59:36Speaker 2: trying to figure out what's going on. They stumble upon
- 59:39Speaker 2: the Centaurs. Hagrid asks them, you know. He takes a
- 59:44Speaker 2: pause and he stares unblinkingly upward and then starts just
- 59:49Speaker 2: saying over and over again, Mars is bright. And Hagrid
- 59:52Speaker 2: gets a little frustrated. He's like, yes, you know, so
- 59:54Speaker 2: we so we know, you know, because you keep saying it. Well,
- 59:56Speaker 2: he says this when you know, when Bain comes in
- 59:59Speaker 2: and says it too. But so then yeah, speaking of Bain, right,
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: So then Centaur Bain joins. Hagrid then turns to Baine
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: because he's not getting what he wants from Ronan and
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: is like, hey, Baine, like, do you know anything that's
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: going on? And Bain, you know, walks over and stand
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: next to Ronan, and he also looks up at the
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: sky and is like, ah, the Mars is bright tonight.
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: And then yeah, and that's when Hagrid then gets very
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: irritated and you know so and he you know, he
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: says to you know, the kids that you know, trying
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: to get a straight answer out of a centaur. He
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: calls him ruddy stargazers, and they're not interested in anything
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: closer in the moon.
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: How a very straight answer.
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: They are giving him a very straight answer. You just
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: need to like interpret it right. But literally, like you know,
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: what happens in the very next couple of pages after this,
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: literally Harry Malfoy and Fang stumble upon Baltimore himself, the
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: cause of the wars in the world and the yes
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: and the cause and you know, and I think that
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: you absolutely could say, like Mars was extra bright that
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: night because it was the first you know, we're gonna
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: have Harry coming face to face with Baltimore again, you know,
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: obviously doesn't know it immediately. In that time, we learn
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: that Baltimore is back in that moment, we learned, I
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: mean back in you know, obviously in some kind of form,
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: but he's still around. We learned that he's he's not dead,
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: you know. We learned that he is using other people
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: and latching on to kind of stay in existence and
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: is the one feeding off the unicorns, and it's just yeah,
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: Mars was bright and then here was Yeah, the the
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: uh bringer of the Bringer of Battle is I think
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: a pretty accurate way to describe Baltimore. And here they
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: were Mars is bright tonight, the Bringer of Battle is here,
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: and then five minutes later there he is. So then
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: kind of, you know, kind of to what you were
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: saying too about their kind of waiting and predicting and everything.
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: I think that they do get into this position where
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: like the terrible things are already maybe happening by the
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: time they determine what the stars and the planets are
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: telling them, you know. I mean, did the Centaurs necessarily
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: know that it was like Valdemore, like feeding on the unicorns?
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: Maybe yes, I mean obviously we see that like some
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: of them did you know? But did they all who knows?
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: They just knew something was up, you know. They also
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: talk about which also could be a little foreshadowing in
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: the same scene and kind of referring to then they
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: say like the innocent like always fall first or something.
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: I don't remember that it's in you know, riddles when
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: Sundors talk, But they talk about like the innocent kind
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: of always being affected first, meaning the unicorn, right, And
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: I think that's also a really good foreshadowing because you
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: think of all of the innocent people who did lose
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: their lives or were casualties of Baltimore, you know, I mean,
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: who is like when Baltimore comes back into his own body, Like,
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: who is the first casualty there? Cedric, someone who's very
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: innocent in that moment. So I think there's just a
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: lot of foreshadowing, like just every time we get any
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: dialogue from the Centaurs, regardless of what Hagrid says, definitely
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: I should have listened to them. He should have in
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: that moment realized like we should maybe get onto the
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: forest because they're telling me that Mars is bright tonight,
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: like something's going to happen, right, and it does. So
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: then kind of fast forwarding to Order the Phoenix is
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: when we kind of get to get more of the Centaurs,
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: because that is when we see Forriends become the Divination
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: Professor much too on Bridges. Yeah, she's not happy with
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: this at all, but it happens. And so in chapter
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: twenty seven of Order the Phoenix is when we get
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: kind of forends is like divination class, and he has
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: the class like you know, observe the planets and the stars,
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: and again points out Mars in the scene, specifically to Harry,
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: Like Harry kind of mentions at that point that he sees,
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: you know, this bright red star right above him, right
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: above Harry. Again, I think another foreshadowing moment. So yeah,
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: he tells that, he points out Mars. He indicates to
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: the students it is shining brightly, and again that should
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: be the warning sign. Anytime a centaur tells you Mars
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: is bright, you be prepared because something is coming and right,
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: and you know it's I think in that moment he's
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: saying it, he's like saying it to Harry, and I
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: think it's this little suggestion that something's going to break
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: out soon, Another fight is going to break out, another
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: war is coming, which obviously we know to be true
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: literally a couple books later. So interestingly, I mean, Trelawne
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: also talks about Mars in her class, so it's not
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: just the centaurs that you know, a reference Mars. She
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: specifically talks about how the angle that the planet makes
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: to Neptune in her orry, which is like a model
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: of the solar system. We learned that Trelannie taught the
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: students as Parveti is kind of explaining this to Friends,
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: that Mars causes accidents and burns when it makes this
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: angle to Saturn, and that that means that people need
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: to be extra careful when handling hot things, and that's.
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: Houch trivial compared to like war is gonna happen.
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: Correct, and literally, Friends quickly dismisses Parvadi and Trelawny and
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: is like human nonsense. That is the restatus response, And
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: that is a really good explanation right there. Of like
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: just how I mentioned earlier the differences and how the
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: centaurs see divination and practice divination. Is that and how
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: I mentioned earlier is that like humans really use divination
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: to kind of predict these day to day events, where
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: the centaurs are using divination to predict these bigger impact events.
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: And in this moment, Friends does go on to explain that,
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: you know, tiny human accidents have little significance in the
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: grand scheme of the universe, and he's not wrong, Like
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: you grabbing a hot pan out of your oven and
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: burning your hand has little importance in the grand scheme
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: of the universe, in your universe and that money else,
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: it doesn't affect anyone else but you, and maybe anyone
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: else you might complain to about it. And I think
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: that with human divination or Trelawny right, like she might
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: say something like, oh, you know, Mars is currently making
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: an angle to Saturn, So when you go home and
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: cook your dinner tonight, be careful grabbing that pan because
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: you're going to get burned. And she might be right.
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: I mean, it might actually happen. I think that we
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: know that Trolanni has made some accurate predictions, but the
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: Centaurs are just like that's stupid, Like, why are wasting
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: time trying to predict if you are going to burn
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: yourself in the oven later? It's trivial in the grand
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: scheme of everything, we should be utilizing these these these
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: the talents that we have to read the stars and
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: the planets to predict things that are actually going to
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: affect the greater humans and things. And you know, and
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: I think that friends would agree that astrology is ridiculous
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: because he says that these tiny human actions are unaffected
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: by the planetary movements, Like what do you think, what
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: do you mean, today, you're going to wake up and
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: money is gonna come into your way, because Saturn is
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: aligned in this way, like he would just be like,
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: what are you even talking about, which I just think
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: is funny because I think, especially in the Wizarding World,
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: I think there's a place for both. I think that
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: I agree with the centaurs and that, like, obviously I
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: do agree, right, tiny little human things don't have significance
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: in the greater scheme of things, and really being able
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: to predict these bigger future human life altering events does
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: seem like a better use of time. But I also
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: think that to dismiss just being able to predict the
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: little things because those little things are important in the
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: universe of that person and in your universe it's important, right,
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: and it's I think there's a place for both. I
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: think there's a place for Let's let the centaurs continue
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: to kind of tell us about the bigger things that
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: are going to happen, and we'll let Trelawney continue to
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: tell us about the little things that are going to happen. Like,
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: I think both play a role in the Wizarding World.
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: And yeah, I think just going back to kind of
- 1:09:50Speaker 2: I guess how we started the episode that talking about
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: divination and talking about the way that witches and wizards
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: and magical creatures also rely on the stars and the planets,
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: Like it just makes sense that they're so interested in them,
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: And maybe that's also why they do play so much
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: focus on just studying it naturally as well, because if
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: you are trying to read the movements and the placements
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: and stuff, you have to understand the science behind what
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: you're looking at and what it's doing. So I don't know,
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: maybe that to tie I guess to tie it back
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: to the beginning of an episode, it all kind of
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: does fit together in terms of why they even study
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: the stars and the planets and their positioning and how
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: they move, because it then directly plays into things like divination,
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: which obviously is a questionable science. We know that Hermione
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: is not really bought in to her divination whatsoever, but
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: I think that, yeah, the centaurs kind of give us
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: that place that maybe maybe there is something there at
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: least in the Wizarding World.
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: Yeah, well, and I think too, like from all of this,
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: there's obviously like a big respect for the stars in
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: the Wizarding World, not just from the centaurs. But obviously
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: humans see the importance too, Otherwise, like you said, they
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: wouldn't be studying it for entire families like the Black
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: Family to borrow names from stars, like there's some sort
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: of reason and respect there. And I don't know, maybe
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: it just goes back to something bigger than them, like
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: even witches in Wizards, who they have this magic. But
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: I feel like just the human nature of needing to
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: believe in something big and something that's more ancient than
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: us and like out there and like.
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: And to under I guess understand like the unknown. And
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: I think if you really think about it, everything about
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: I don't know, you can even think of like space
- 1:12:19Speaker 2: and everything that is involved with space is also being
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: like magical and fantastical. And I could see which is
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: in Wizards, like really feeling like space and the stars
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: and everything that has to do with astronomy is like
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: this extension of like their magicalness, because it is magical
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: in and of itself, and it doesn't seem like I
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: mean even in real life right now, right like I
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: just like thinking about space or you know, obviously, you know,
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: I like extremely followed the Artemist mission, you know, several
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: weeks ago and seeing the pictures of the mission and
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: pictures that we just get of Space, like it it
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: is this magic. Is this like unreal, unexplainable kind of phenomenon, right,
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: And I feel like Space also seems like this unreal,
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: unexplainable phenomenon. But they both exit. I mean, okay, now
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: let's go back to the Wizarding World. Right, they exist,
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: they both exist, but they're both this weird I mean
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: weird in a great way, like weird, unexplainable phenomenon. They
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: have that in common. So yeah, I think it only
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: makes sense that which isn't Wizards would latch onto it
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: because of that commonality. But I also think that even
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: their magic can't explain it, and so there is still
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: that fascination in studying it and using to predicticked because
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: they can't explain it either. So right, yeah, no, definitely,
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: very very interesting. And yeah, I think that the Centaurs
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: are more important than people won't let them on to be.
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: And they are not just ruddy stargazers. I think as
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: you know calls them. Yeah, it's a noise.
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: Okay. So we have a couple of responses to last
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: episode's discussion question, which was whatiziting world plant would you
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: like to grow in your garden? So first from Jerry,
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: Jerry says, if magic could make a Mediterranean water plant
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: grow in my Central USA pond, the magical plant I
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: would most like to grow in my garden would be gillyweed.
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: I would love to be able to hold my breath underwater,
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: and as I recall, it also made Harry feel the
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: cold of the Black Lake less and being older than
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: Harry was at the time, I would be sure to
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: carry a packet or two with extra gillyweed attached to
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: my swimwear when going for a longer dive to be
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: able to take another dose if my swim lasted more
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: than an hour. Smart Yes. Jerry also says I think Dittany,
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: the real magical or at least Greek version, might come next,
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: since something with powerful healing properties could always come in
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: handy if you do another Herobology episode, I suggest bobo
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: tubers as another plant that could be discussed, and it
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: is another example of that principle the dose makes the poison,
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: explaining how a plant or other substance can be both
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: poisonous and useful in medicine. Undiluted boober tuber pus causes
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: lots of problems. Think of hermione when nasty folks sent
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: her owel post containing this, But when properly harvested and treated,
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: this same pus can be used to cure acne. Yeah,
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: very true. The same plant can do multiple different things.
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: And then Carolyn says, not sure. I would probably want
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: the one that looked the prettiest when it flowered, or
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: Devil's snare to keep out intruders.
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I like that.
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I plant some at my front door.
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: So for this episode, we want to know do you
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: think the centaurs no more than they let on? We
