- 0:04Speaker 1: up.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Good next to
- 0:07Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:10Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Welcome to the middle of the week. We're closing into
- 0:14Speaker 1: the end of PSLE season.
- 0:16Speaker 2: It's officially the last day when higher mother tongues celebrate
- 0:20Speaker 2: after this people. Yes, that's right. All the best. We're
- 0:24Speaker 2: going to kick it off here with Miley Cyrus this
- 0:26Speaker 2: Wednesday morning. Stay tuned. Singapore's number one hit music station.
- 0:32Speaker 2: I was saying CCTV and here in Singapore, you can
- 0:38Speaker 2: best assure yourselves that we are being watched everywhere we go.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Whether it's CCTV or someone taking a video of us,
- 0:45Speaker 2: for example, if it could be too loud on the
- 0:47Speaker 2: trains or if they think we are causing a ruckus.
- 0:51Speaker 2: You'll be sure they'll record it and they won't go
- 0:54Speaker 2: to the authorities, no, they'll post it online and more
- 0:57Speaker 2: or less we get shamed for our mischievous behavior. So
- 1:01Speaker 2: unfortunately over at North Shore Plaza, and this is where,
- 1:05Speaker 2: you know how some Singaporeans, it's like we don't deserve
- 1:08Speaker 2: nice things. I remember when the more bikes or old
- 1:12Speaker 2: bikes or the old 4 bikes were a thing. There
- 1:14Speaker 2: were people throwing the old 4 bike off the HDB ledge.
- 1:18Speaker 2: The way down to the ground floor to which they
- 1:20Speaker 2: were rightly investigated, and I think they have to deal
- 1:22Speaker 2: with the law. Unfortunately for this one, a bunch of
- 1:25Speaker 2: youth were caught using the, uh, I think it was
- 1:27Speaker 2: a Hello Ride or an any wheel going up the escalator.
- 1:31Speaker 2: It is not supposed to be done this way or indoors, people,
- 1:34Speaker 2: for nothing. You get a video of yourselves circulated on
- 1:38Speaker 2: social media. So please behave well. Don't be shamed online
- 1:43Speaker 2: like that and treat our en
- 1:45Speaker 2: Wheels or Hello Rides or any other bike rentals with care, people,
- 1:50Speaker 2: especially not just bike rentals, the car rentals as well
- 1:54Speaker 2: with the get go cars or Tribe shares. Make sure
- 1:57Speaker 2: it's in good condition before you even start the engine
- 1:59Speaker 2: and maybe do a short test drive first to make
- 2:03Speaker 2: sure everything is working before you actually drive to wherever
- 2:06Speaker 2: you need to go. Now, for the majority of primary
- 2:09Speaker 2: 6 students, congratulations, it is over.
- 2:13Speaker 2: PSLE done and dusted. I am so happy for you, really.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Enjoy all the post-exam activities. You'll be having fun in school.
- 2:22Speaker 2: I'm very sure they got some maybe inter-class tournaments planned
- 2:26Speaker 2: for you or school excursions, but for a handful of
- 2:29Speaker 2: P6 students, today for them will be the official last
- 2:33Speaker 2: day of PSLE because it's the higher Chinese, higher Malay,
- 2:37Speaker 2: higher Tamil, in other words, higher mother tongue. It begins
- 2:41Speaker 2: at 8:15 a.m.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Paper one, and then paper two is at 10:15 a.m.
- 2:47Speaker 2: So sending you all the love and all the best
- 2:50Speaker 2: as you tackle the final hurdle for you when it
- 2:53Speaker 2: comes down to PSLE. And of course, if you want
- 2:55Speaker 2: to give your friends or anybody a shout out who
- 2:58Speaker 2: might be going through the exam period right now, not
- 3:01Speaker 2: just PSLE but any other exam in primary or secondary
- 3:04Speaker 2: school or even JC ITE, poly, or uni.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Phone lines are open in just a bit at 669-119-87.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Maybe say around 6:45. You can call in or you
- 3:16Speaker 2: can WhatsApp us at 90050987. Request for your favorite song
- 3:21Speaker 2: to play and we'll do it for you here on 987. Again,
- 3:24Speaker 2: music has the power to hype you up and change
- 3:27Speaker 2: the mood. Hopefully takes away some of the nerves that
- 3:30Speaker 2: you might have as well. 987, hello, what's your name?
- 3:35Speaker 2: Nicholas. Hello, Nicholas, and what level are you in this year?
- 3:39Speaker 2: Primary 4. Primary 4, from which school?
- 3:44Speaker 2: Tao Nan. Alright, giving Tao Nan Primary School a shout out.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Well done, my friend. And is it exam season for
- 3:50Speaker 2: you as well? Yes. And what paper is it today
- 3:53Speaker 2: or soon?
- 3:55Speaker 2: Uh, my next paper is English. And when is this?
- 3:58Speaker 2: My sister is doing higher Chinese today. Oh, what's your
- 4:02Speaker 2: sister's name?
- 4:03Speaker 2: Rebecca. And anything you wanna say to her?
- 4:07Speaker 2: Uh, good luck. Yes, good luck are two very, very
- 4:11Speaker 2: good words. OK. What song can I get for you
- 4:14Speaker 2: and your sister? Waka waka. You really want to hear
- 4:18Speaker 2: waka waka?
- 4:20Speaker 2: Yes. OK, you know what? For one time only, I'll
- 4:23Speaker 2: play it for you here at 987. Enjoy the song
- 4:25Speaker 2: and make sure you dance in the car, OK? You
- 4:28Speaker 2: take care. Thank you. Bye-bye. So this one going out
- 4:31Speaker 2: to Nicholas and Rebecca, as well as to Alexis of
- 4:34Speaker 2: CHIJ Saint Nicholas Girls' School. All the best for your
- 4:38Speaker 2: higher mother tongue. It's the final day of PSLE and
- 4:42Speaker 2: hopefully your exam season, you will do well for it.
- 4:44Speaker 2: I want to throw you back to two years ago, 2024.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Sometime in the month of June, I believe millennials and
- 4:53Speaker 2: perhaps older Gen Z's and even the Gen X's, they
- 4:56Speaker 2: were really excited when they saw that Linkin Park were
- 4:59Speaker 2: gonna come back together to put out new music. So yes,
- 5:03Speaker 2: rest in peace, Chester Bennington, but I guess the band decided, hey,
- 5:06Speaker 2: you know what, we will carry on his legacy, not
- 5:09Speaker 2: by trying to recreate whatever Chester did, but you know,
- 5:13Speaker 2: just live up to it and also go our own
- 5:15Speaker 2: way now. So they recruited singer Emily Armstrong.
- 5:18Speaker 2: And when they announced 5 locations for a concert, I
- 5:23Speaker 2: think Sao Paulo in Brazil was 1 location, South Korea
- 5:27Speaker 2: was another one, and I got really lucky. Trust me
- 5:29Speaker 2: on this one. When they announced South Korea for a weekend,
- 5:33Speaker 2: I went, OK, I'm just gonna buy a ticket, go
- 5:36Speaker 2: there for the weekend and watch one of my favorite
- 5:38Speaker 2: bands perform and just enjoy whatever's going to happen for
- 5:40Speaker 2: them and how they move forward.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Fast forward to maybe say when I was there in
- 5:45Speaker 2: the month of September for the concert in Korea, and
- 5:48Speaker 2: this is why I say I got very lucky for
- 5:50Speaker 2: myself at 987.
- 5:52Speaker 2: I think somebody from Warner Music got wind that I
- 5:54Speaker 2: was going and they said, hey, Joakim, uh, they actually
- 5:57Speaker 2: need someone to host their Asia press conference and we'll
- 6:01Speaker 2: give you 5 minutes with Linkin Park. How about that?
- 6:04Speaker 2: And I went, sure. It's OK. No amount of money
- 6:08Speaker 2: can buy this experience. So the entire interview is still
- 6:12Speaker 2: available for you on 987's Instagram and on TikTok, and
- 6:15Speaker 2: I think yesterday I got reminded that on 29th of September,
- 6:18Speaker 2: it was the day I posted.
- 6:20Speaker 2: The 20 compilation photos and videos of my experience in
- 6:25Speaker 2: South Korea watching Linkin Park perform again at the Inspire Arena.
- 6:30Speaker 2: So why am I talking about Linkin Park? Because today, worldwide,
- 6:34Speaker 2: if you follow them on social media, you would have
- 6:36Speaker 2: seen that they're announcing and
- 6:37Speaker 2: They have released a live concert film taken in Sao Paulo,
- 6:41Speaker 2: of course, 2 years ago. They call it Unshattered, and
- 6:44Speaker 2: it's basically them in concert just like your Billie Eilish
- 6:47Speaker 2: Hit Me Hard and Soft or your Blackpink live concert
- 6:50Speaker 2: films as well. And you will hear songs like this one,
- 6:53Speaker 2: for example.
- 7:04Speaker 2: That's one of their newer ones called Emptiness Machine, but
- 7:07Speaker 2: they also performed classics like this one.
- 7:22Speaker 2: I can see why musicians and DJs enjoy performing over
- 7:26Speaker 2: in Brazil, whether in Sao Paulo or Brasilia. And there's
- 7:30Speaker 2: one more song as well.
- 7:44Speaker 2: From their 1000 Suns album, this one called Waiting for
- 7:47Speaker 2: the End. So these are just three of the many
- 7:50Speaker 2: songs featured in the concert film. I'm looking at the
- 7:53Speaker 2: website right now. It's available worldwide, but here in Singapore, nothing.
- 7:57Speaker 2: So please, can somebody at least give us a limited
- 8:00Speaker 2: screening of this LinkedIn.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Park Live in concert film from Sao Paulo 2024 and
- 8:06Speaker 2: earlier I did share that come 26th of December 2026,
- 8:11Speaker 2: if you are taking public transport and you're wondering, eh,
- 8:15Speaker 2: how come I'm paying 12 to 13 cents more? Well,
- 8:18Speaker 2: it's because there'll be a
- 8:21Speaker 2: Fare increase for public transport fares. Again, it begins December 26th,
- 8:26Speaker 2: and this is why I say 12 cents or 13 cents.
- 8:29Speaker 2: It will go up to 12 cents if you're paying
- 8:32Speaker 2: by card for trips up to 3.2 km. So if
- 8:36Speaker 2: you're going above 3.2 km, the fares will go up
- 8:39Speaker 2: by 13 cents, and students, senior, and persons with disabilities,
- 8:44Speaker 2: your card fares will go up by 5 cents per trip.
- 8:48Speaker 2: If you're paying cash, it will rise.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Rise by 20 cents for adults and 10 cents for
- 8:54Speaker 2: concession groups. Now, this is a very big example of
- 8:58Speaker 2: how whatever happens very far away from Singapore, somehow we
- 9:03Speaker 2: will still feel the effects and I think if you
- 9:06Speaker 2: watched the press release yesterday and the doorstop interview,
- 9:10Speaker 2: They were saying about how, given the tensions in the
- 9:13Speaker 2: Middle East and all the Strait of Hormuz issues and problems,
- 9:16Speaker 2: this is why energy costs has risen, and for us
- 9:19Speaker 2: here in Singapore, we are definitely feeling the effects, so
- 9:22Speaker 2: this is why they're going to increase the transport fares,
- 9:25Speaker 2: but not to worry because also in the news, the
- 9:28Speaker 2: government will really provide loads of subsidies. We're talking about
- 9:32Speaker 2: close to $200 million. So again,
- 9:35Speaker 2: Mark this date down. The full article and the full
- 9:38Speaker 2: press release is available for you on CNN. Make sure
- 9:41Speaker 2: you read it and be informed before you complain for
- 9:44Speaker 2: nothing on TikTok or maybe even Reddit or on Instagram reels. Hey,
- 9:47Speaker 2: how come my transport fare increased? Now, in case you're
- 9:49Speaker 2: wondering where is our darling Sonia Chew, unfortunately, her sinus infection.
- 9:53Speaker 2: that she shared with us on air yesterday about what
- 9:57Speaker 2: she's going through. It got a little bit bad, so
- 10:00Speaker 2: she's resting up and hopefully back with us tomorrow. She
- 10:03Speaker 2: did text me last night saying, hey, I might not
- 10:05Speaker 2: feel so good, so I might not come in today
- 10:07Speaker 2: in case I pass you anything. So thank you very
- 10:09Speaker 2: much for being responsible and really
- 10:12Speaker 2: Uh, we blame the haze because, uh, actually, you know what,
- 10:16Speaker 2: till this day, I believe people are still a little
- 10:18Speaker 2: bit confused on what to refer to, whether it comes
- 10:21Speaker 2: to PSI or the p.m. 2.5. So, based on my understanding,
- 10:27Speaker 2: the p.m. 2.5 is actually like a small indicator of
- 10:32Speaker 2: these fine micropollutants in the air. So for example, if
- 10:36Speaker 2: right now you wanna go
- 10:37Speaker 2: Go out and walk your dog or go for a
- 10:39Speaker 2: walk or go for a run, you look at the p.m. 2.5,
- 10:42Speaker 2: the one hour p.m. 2.5 reading, which if I'm not wrong,
- 10:46Speaker 2: I'm gonna hit refresh now on the website that is hayes.gov.sg. So,
- 10:52Speaker 2: the current one hour PM 2.5 reading, it's at 55, OK? So,
- 10:59Speaker 2: north side 55, West is at 70.
- 11:03Speaker 2: South at 59, east at 68, and central at 63.
- 11:08Speaker 2: So it's roughly in the elevated range. The 24 hour PSI,
- 11:14Speaker 2: that's a combination of all the pollutants, and you want
- 11:18Speaker 2: to use that to plan the next day's activities for
- 11:21Speaker 2: an organization, for a school, and everything else that you
- 11:25Speaker 2: do as a group, or maybe even your run clubs
- 11:27Speaker 2: as well.
- 11:28Speaker 2: So, currently at 7 a.m. the PSI stands at 97
- 11:33Speaker 2: in the north, 119 for both West central, 118 in
- 11:38Speaker 2: the east, and 112 at the south. So, it's in
- 11:42Speaker 2: the unhealthy range. So, use both readings, uh, the correct way.
- 11:48Speaker 2: It can be a little bit confusing, yes, but again,
- 11:50Speaker 2: if you need a guide, I believe, uh, that our
- 11:52Speaker 2: friends over at.
- 11:54Speaker 2: g ov s g They have how to read it
- 11:57Speaker 2: correctly for you on their website. And I'm gonna be
- 12:00Speaker 2: a little bit cheeky today. I'm gonna take a Formula
- 12:03Speaker 2: One example and I'll use it in everyday life because
- 12:06Speaker 2: I'm very sure you know someone in your office, in
- 12:10Speaker 2: your organization, or wherever it is that you work at.
- 12:13Speaker 2: There is always someone like this. I want to talk
- 12:16Speaker 2: about the team, Aston Martin.
- 12:19Speaker 2: And if you're a Formula One fan, if you're chuckling,
- 12:21Speaker 2: then yes, you would know that Aston Martin have become
- 12:24Speaker 2: the butt of all jokes when it comes to Formula
- 12:26Speaker 2: One cars and the Formula One itself. And their current
- 12:31Speaker 2: team lineup boasts two-time world champion, and he just resigned
- 12:36Speaker 2: his contract for another year for next year. Fernando Alonso.
- 12:40Speaker 2: We've gotta say congratulations, really.
- 12:43Speaker 2: One of the current living legends of the sport alongside
- 12:47Speaker 2: maybe say Lewis Hamilton, and the 2nd seat, uh, it's
- 12:52Speaker 2: confirmed for next year as well. It's being filled by
- 12:56Speaker 2: Lance Stroll again. And if you were to go by
- 13:01Speaker 2: a performance outcome and how well someone does in an organization,
- 13:07Speaker 2: Lance Stroll should be out of a job.
- 13:11Speaker 2: But here's the thing. Who owns the Aston Martin racing team?
- 13:16Speaker 2: It's Lawrence Stroll, who is Lance Stroll's father. You definitely
- 13:22Speaker 2: know what I'm getting at, and again, I'm gonna be
- 13:24Speaker 2: quite cheeky on this Wednesday morning and if Sonia were here,
- 13:28Speaker 2: She would probably be nice about it and for me,
- 13:31Speaker 2: you know lah, I'm the bad cop. So given how
- 13:34Speaker 2: I'm going solo today, you're hearing the bad cop's opinions. Sonia,
- 13:39Speaker 2: where are you? OK, so if you follow Formula One
- 13:43Speaker 2: or if you don't follow Formula One, it's OK. Let
- 13:45Speaker 2: me try to make it easy for you, OK? Given
- 13:47Speaker 2: how I've really committed to following this season, I, I've
- 13:50Speaker 2: learned a thing or two about a few different teams
- 13:53Speaker 2: and for Aston Martin, OK, that's the team in green, um,
- 13:58Speaker 2: Yes, it's become the butt of all jokes between Formula
- 14:02Speaker 2: One fans, and Fernando Alonso is a two-time world champion,
- 14:06Speaker 2: so he has renewed his contract and he's gonna sit
- 14:09Speaker 2: in the driver's seat next year for the 2027 season.
- 14:13Speaker 2: So well done, Fernando Alonso. OK, yes, yeah. All right.
- 14:16Speaker 2: I mean, he has the resume, over 400 Grand Prix
- 14:20Speaker 2: in his lifetime, 24 seasons. That's, that, that's crazy. Well done, Fernando.
- 14:25Speaker 2: And then we move on to the other driver that
- 14:27Speaker 2: they have, Lance Stroh.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Look, I'm very sure he's a nice guy personally and
- 14:34Speaker 2: all that, but looking at his track record, no pun
- 14:38Speaker 2: intended for this season, yeah, did not finish in Australia,
- 14:43Speaker 2: did not finish in China, did not finish in Japan,
- 14:47Speaker 2: did not finish in Monaco, Barcelona, Austria, did not finish
- 14:51Speaker 2: in Belgium, didn't finish in the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, and
- 14:55Speaker 2: the recent Azerbaijan. So,
- 14:58Speaker 2: You, you might blame him or you might blame the car. It's,
- 15:01Speaker 2: it's either or not. I think teams like Aston Martin
- 15:05Speaker 2: and maybe even my boys at Cadillac, we, we're still
- 15:07Speaker 2: trying to figure out the car and adapt to the
- 15:10Speaker 2: new rules. So every time they announce changes, but they
- 15:13Speaker 2: still don't do well, you're just wondering what, what, what
- 15:16Speaker 2: changes here. So for Lance Stroll, unfortunately, he is on
- 15:19Speaker 2: the receiving end of comments like, hey, this is Nepo baby,
- 15:22Speaker 2: because his father is the chairman of Aston Martin.
- 15:27Speaker 2: Get the link now. And if you were to be,
- 15:29Speaker 2: maybe say a manager or maybe even HR, right, if
- 15:33Speaker 2: you were to look at Lance Stroll's record, you might go, OK,
- 15:36Speaker 2: this guy is not performing well. Let's get someone else
- 15:39Speaker 2: into the seat and see how well he does for
- 15:41Speaker 2: Aston Martin next year. But given how he's his father's son,
- 15:46Speaker 2: It's a bit tough, and I guess he still has
- 15:49Speaker 2: a seat for next year, so congratulations to Lance Stroll, yay.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Though I'm very sure, maybe say younger drivers in Formula
- 16:00Speaker 2: 2 are going, hey, I, I, I want that seat.
- 16:02Speaker 2: It's very unfair. I feel that I can do a
- 16:05Speaker 2: better job. So we take that example and we go
- 16:09Speaker 2: to everyday life now, in your office, in your organization,
- 16:13Speaker 2: maybe even in your school or or wherever that has
- 16:16Speaker 2: a working community or whatsoever. Here's my question.
- 16:21Speaker 2: And I'm very sure you know of someone like this.
- 16:23Speaker 2: Do you know someone or have a colleague or a
- 16:25Speaker 2: schoolmate with you who is really terrible at what he
- 16:28Speaker 2: or she does, but somehow he or she is still there?
- 16:32Speaker 2: You, you, you've given feedback to your manager or your
- 16:35Speaker 2: HR or whatsoever, but this person is still there by
- 16:38Speaker 2: some miracle. I'm encouraging you to spill the tea on 987, really,
- 16:45Speaker 2: because this is inspired by me being cheeky and bringing
- 16:48Speaker 2: a Formula One example to real life where Fernando Alonso,
- 16:52Speaker 2: two-time world champion, he has renewed his contract with Aston Martin.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Well done for next season. That, that, that's deserving. And
- 16:58Speaker 2: then Lance Stroh.
- 17:03Speaker 2: If you're a manager or an HR professional, if you
- 17:06Speaker 2: look at his current performance, you even wonder how is
- 17:08Speaker 2: this guy still in the team? How does he have
- 17:10Speaker 2: a job? Again, look, nothing personal. I'm very sure he's
- 17:13Speaker 2: a nice guy out there, but because his father is
- 17:17Speaker 2: Lawrence Stroll, the chairman of Aston Martin, and you know,
- 17:20Speaker 2: you know lah, so my question is,
- 17:23Speaker 2: Do you have anyone in your workplace who is really
- 17:26Speaker 2: bad at what he or she does, but somehow is
- 17:29Speaker 2: still there? I'm gonna keep everybody anonymous today, OK? Anonymous
- 17:34Speaker 2: texter number one says, hey Joakim, I had a colleague
- 17:39Speaker 2: who simply was either lazy or quite incompetent, even with
- 17:42Speaker 2: a simple task with her workout, with with her work,
- 17:45Speaker 2: but because she knows how to look smart,
- 17:48Speaker 2: And knows how to boot lick. She has remained with
- 17:51Speaker 2: the organization for a very long time. Wow, OK, another
- 17:57Speaker 2: one coming in.
- 18:01Speaker 2: From this anonymous texter #2, I was just summarizing your
- 18:04Speaker 2: text in my head. Hey Joakim, there's this there's this
- 18:08Speaker 2: guy in my company who has been in IT for years,
- 18:12Speaker 2: but somehow still doesn't know how to fix basic problems.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Every time something goes wrong, he just restarts the computer
- 18:20Speaker 2: and says, should be OK for now. Somehow he's still employed.
- 18:23Speaker 2: On the topic of, do you know of anyone who's
- 18:26Speaker 2: super bad at his or her job, but by some miracle,
- 18:29Speaker 2: this person is still there.
- 18:31Speaker 2: Long story short, Formula One example, Lance Stroll has a
- 18:34Speaker 2: contract with Aston Martin next year, to which on social media,
- 18:38Speaker 2: people are going, what's, what's happening? It's very obvious what's
- 18:41Speaker 2: going on here because guess who is his dad, the
- 18:44Speaker 2: chairman of Aston Martin again.
- 18:47Speaker 2: This is all tongue in cheek speculation. I'm very sure
- 18:50Speaker 2: he's a nice guy personally, but again, if you were
- 18:52Speaker 2: to look at his professional record, you might start asking
- 18:56Speaker 2: questions like, how is this guy even still here? Why
- 18:58Speaker 2: don't we give a Formula 2 driver a chance? So
- 19:00Speaker 2: I'm gonna keep all my texters today anonymous. We do
- 19:03Speaker 2: have a call to get to in a bit. Wanna
- 19:05Speaker 2: say good morning to anonymous texter number 3. Hey, Joakim.
- 19:09Speaker 2: I want to share about my incompetent colleagues. I have
- 19:12Speaker 2: a colleague who just joined and is scared of everything.
- 19:16Speaker 2: For context, she's 15 years older than me. I am 22. Basically,
- 19:21Speaker 2: I'm tasked to give her some of my tasks for
- 19:23Speaker 2: my project. Simple ones from getting vendor quotations, arranging delivery
- 19:28Speaker 2: of items and.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Next, for example, after 2 to 3 months here, she's
- 19:31Speaker 2: scared of everything. She doesn't dare send emails to clients
- 19:35Speaker 2: or vendors. She's she's afraid of signing quotes, she's afraid
- 19:39Speaker 2: of calling them. Basically, she has done almost nothing here,
- 19:42Speaker 2: and I do not understand why someone who has been
- 19:45Speaker 2: in the workforce for this long can be still scared
- 19:47Speaker 2: of everything. There is more to this, but these are
- 19:50Speaker 2: some of the funny encounters. Thank you so much for sharing.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Wanna also say good morning to anonymous texter number 4.
- 19:57Speaker 2: Hey Joakim, I'm the one people spread rumors about saying
- 20:01Speaker 2: that I'm horrible at my job and that nobody wants me.
- 20:04Speaker 2: A friend heard it and encouraged me to leave because
- 20:07Speaker 2: all my hard work and overtime clearly was not appreciated.
- 20:11Speaker 2: Funny thing is, when I want to take leave, nobody
- 20:14Speaker 2: wants to cover my work. Even when I'm sick, I
- 20:17Speaker 2: end up doing a full day's work in
- 20:18Speaker 2: Half a day before taking MC, so not every rumor
- 20:21Speaker 2: you hear about someone at work is true. My long
- 20:24Speaker 2: leave was canceled by my line manager because the only
- 20:28Speaker 2: colleague familiar enough with my work to cover me is
- 20:30Speaker 2: currently on maternity leave. So apparently I'm terrible at my job,
- 20:34Speaker 2: yet somehow my work is difficult enough that no, that,
- 20:37Speaker 2: that there's no one to cover it when I'm away.
- 20:40Speaker 2: Yikes. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts, and
- 20:43Speaker 2: I really hope things get better for you in the office.
- 20:45Speaker 2: If not, please go somewhere else. Go to our phone
- 20:48Speaker 2: lines right now, 669-119-87. Anonymous caller, what's your story? OK, uh,
- 20:53Speaker 2: so I previously I worked in this, this, uh, this company.
- 20:56Speaker 2: It's a very small company, so the owner is actually, uh,
- 21:00Speaker 2: Uh, one of the, uh, staff that, so it's a,
- 21:04Speaker 2: it's a daughter actually. So, um, so I didn't know
- 21:09Speaker 2: this till I'm, I joined them for more than 3 months.
- 21:13Speaker 2: So after, so I did ask my managers how come she, her,
- 21:17Speaker 2: she always like her task is like lesser than all
- 21:19Speaker 2: of us.
- 21:20Speaker 2: And she always like every time when she comes to work,
- 21:22Speaker 2: she always like play games and she can just watch YouTube,
- 21:25Speaker 2: TikTok and everything. So we all of us is like, uh, it's,
- 21:29Speaker 2: it's really unfair. Then uh uh and one day my
- 21:33Speaker 2: manager told me that, you know that this, this girl
- 21:36Speaker 2: is actually the owner's daughter. I was like, oh, OK,
- 21:39Speaker 2: I didn't know about that.
- 21:40Speaker 2: So we all of us really comment and told the HR,
- 21:44Speaker 2: told the man, the senior manager, but that we got
- 21:46Speaker 2: no comments because this is the older daughter. we can't
- 21:49Speaker 2: do anything because she likes to complain to the dad
- 21:51Speaker 2: if we did something bad to her. This is tough, man.
- 21:55Speaker 2: This is very tough for all of us. It's like, uh,
- 21:58Speaker 2: all of us is overloaded at work and we can
- 22:01Speaker 2: just look at her. She can just play phone until
- 22:04Speaker 2: the end of the day. I was like, wow, that's
- 22:05Speaker 2: a good life.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Are you still working for this company or have you
- 22:07Speaker 2: left already? Uh, no, no, I already left the company. That's,
- 22:11Speaker 2: so we have, there's one day where we actually have
- 22:13Speaker 2: a mass resign because we told the managers that this
- 22:17Speaker 2: is really unfair that we, we are being like treated like, uh,
- 22:23Speaker 2: not like a staff, but actually like a servant. She's
- 22:26Speaker 2: over there like doing. Can I ask, do you know
- 22:30Speaker 2: whether she's still working for that company?
- 22:32Speaker 2: Uh, I guess she do because, uh, what I heard
- 22:36Speaker 2: from my manager that she's still there. She's right now
- 22:38Speaker 2: is the senior manager. What? Look, I kid you not,
- 22:43Speaker 2: our 987 WhatsApps, uh, I feel as if we're becoming
- 22:46Speaker 2: a Reddit confessional because people are sharing their stories. Thank
- 22:51Speaker 2: you so much. Let me try to get to as
- 22:53Speaker 2: many as I can this morning, OK?
- 22:56Speaker 2: Anonymous texter number 5. Hey Joakim, my colleague is always
- 23:01Speaker 2: so pretentious and although her work is average, she always
- 23:04Speaker 2: portrays a very hardworking image, only in front of the boss.
- 23:08Speaker 2: She is a say yes to boss, but actually a
- 23:11Speaker 2: lot of work she accepts are undone, are not even done.
- 23:14Speaker 2: She always tries to pass what she, what she has
- 23:18Speaker 2: accepted to other people, then when things go wrong,
- 23:21Speaker 2: She plays the victim and says, oh, I was given
- 23:24Speaker 2: too much of work, but in actual fact, she was
- 23:26Speaker 2: the one who took it on and got promoted. Then
- 23:28Speaker 2: after a promotion, she officially gave away some of her portfolio.
- 23:32Speaker 2: In an extreme case, she even blatantly discussed with another
- 23:35Speaker 2: colleague who empathized with her, bracket obviously blinded by her lies,
- 23:39Speaker 2: to plan to go cry in front of the boss
- 23:42Speaker 2: so that she can escape some duties that she disliked. Wow! Really, man?
- 23:48Speaker 2: The, the, the corporate world is so different. Wanna say
- 23:50Speaker 2: good morning to another texter, anonymous texter number 6. Hey, Joakim,
- 23:54Speaker 2: I have a colleague who recently did not do well
- 23:56Speaker 2: managing a big project and received feedback from various departments,
- 24:01Speaker 2: yet he's still around and he has been working in
- 24:03Speaker 2: my company for 8 years because he was brought in
- 24:06Speaker 2: by the head of my department. Oh, OK, cannot lose
- 24:09Speaker 2: face because it's your hire. You got to make sure.
- 24:12Speaker 2: This person does well or defend this person so that
- 24:14Speaker 2: you won't lose face. Well, this is really complicated. Go
- 24:17Speaker 2: to the phone lines 669-119-87. Anonymous caller number two, what's
- 24:22Speaker 2: your story? It's actually my husband's workplace, so there's this lady, right, she,
- 24:28Speaker 2: she cannot work with anyone. Um, basically everybody that she
- 24:32Speaker 2: hired under her has left, come and go, right? And, um.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Whatever her subordinate subordinates, um, do, right, she will actually
- 24:42Speaker 2: redo it, so, so nobody can stand her, and she's
- 24:45Speaker 2: still there after 17 years and, you know, everybody sees
- 24:48Speaker 2: that there's a problem with her, but she's still there. Wait,
- 24:52Speaker 2: after 17 years.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Nobody has, well, no one has done anything. Is it
- 24:59Speaker 2: because she's someone important? Is she someone's daughter or what?
- 25:03Speaker 2: No, not like that. It's, um, yeah, I just don't
- 25:06Speaker 2: know why. Another mystery that needs to be solved here
- 25:09Speaker 2: in life. Anonymous texter number 7 or 8 now. Morning, Joakim.
- 25:14Speaker 2: A fellow colleague has been around for 20 years, yet
- 25:18Speaker 2: still making the silliest mistakes, asking her fellow colleagues how
- 25:21Speaker 2: to solve an issue. These colleagues joined after her, me included,
- 25:25Speaker 2: so she's definitely had a fair share of seeing these
- 25:28Speaker 2: kind of same issues. We are all covering her by
- 25:31Speaker 2: clearing her mess and cleaning her mistakes. She has zero
- 25:34Speaker 2: guilt and eagerness to learn. Painful as it sounds, she
- 25:38Speaker 2: won't leave. It's the other colleagues that are leaving. Oh, OK.
- 25:42Speaker 2: Another anonymous texter, hey, Joakim, there's this managerial level person
- 25:46Speaker 2: in the company who is such a smooth slash glib talker,
- 25:50Speaker 2: and in a data-driven company where decisions are based on numbers,
- 25:54Speaker 2: he always tai chi and delegates work out to his
- 25:57Speaker 2: execs or interns, even to churn data for him. And
- 26:00Speaker 2: when challenged, he would direct the question back to them.
- 26:04Speaker 2: He is good with words, but when it comes to
- 26:06Speaker 2: data and follow-ups, everyone just wonders how is he still here.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Go to the phone lines at 669-119-87. Anonymous caller number 3,
- 26:17Speaker 2: what's your story? Yeah, I know this, uh, particular colleague,
- 26:21Speaker 2: very good looking, charming, likable, sweet talker, and you know,
- 26:25Speaker 2: nobody actually knows what he does. Now when it comes
- 26:27Speaker 2: to real world.
- 26:28Speaker 2: You know, the error 404 just pops out. He's nowhere
- 26:31Speaker 2: to be found. And you know, when the board of
- 26:33Speaker 2: directors appear, you know, he's just online suddenly and the
- 26:36Speaker 2: error just disappears and the camera starts rolling. So here's
- 26:40Speaker 2: what he has been working on. Um, he's a master
- 26:43Speaker 2: of strategic visibility.
- 26:45Speaker 2: He's really good at taking credit and he's damn good
- 26:48Speaker 2: at selling himself 100 out of 100, you know, and, uh,
- 26:51Speaker 2: untouchable because, uh, thanks to his premium corporate plot armor
- 26:55Speaker 2: and somehow he still got a recent promotion and, uh,
- 26:59Speaker 2: now I finally know, you know, KPI means, uh, you know,
- 27:01Speaker 2: keep powerful individuals impressed. That's how you excel in the
- 27:04Speaker 2: corporate ladder. Has, has anyone ever given feedback to HR
- 27:08Speaker 2: or the superiors about the performance of this guy?
- 27:12Speaker 2: I mean, performing very well in stocking and selling, I
- 27:15Speaker 2: think that's probably some of the honest, uh, conversations they have. But, uh,
- 27:19Speaker 2: I don't think anybody would dare to go against him
- 27:21Speaker 2: because of the, the, the attacks that maybe have a
- 27:24Speaker 2: lot of repercussions, right? Thank you so much for all
- 27:27Speaker 2: your calls and your texts. I hope I was able
- 27:30Speaker 2: to
- 27:30Speaker 2: Read every single one of them. Two more just came in.
- 27:34Speaker 2: Do I have time? OK, maybe I have time for one. OK.
- 27:37Speaker 2: I want to say good morning to anonymous texter number
- 27:39Speaker 2: 8 now. Morning, Joakim, AKA fellow F1 fan, was low-key
- 27:44Speaker 2: chuckling to myself on the way to work while I
- 27:46Speaker 2: heard what you said about Stroll the Nepo baby.
- 27:49Speaker 2: And I totally agree with you. Again, tongue in cheek,
- 27:51Speaker 2: tongue in cheek. Anyway, my mom has a senior at
- 27:54Speaker 2: work who has been at the company for over 2 decades.
- 27:57Speaker 2: She's been there the longest. She tends to talk loudly
- 28:00Speaker 2: and whine and complain when she's having a bad day.
- 28:03Speaker 2: It's disruptive to the other colleagues who are trying to work.
- 28:06Speaker 2: During their peak period, she rallied other admin colleagues to
- 28:09Speaker 2: write emails to higher-ups and complain about their workload. She
- 28:13Speaker 2: takes it out on their colleagues when she's having
- 28:16Speaker 2: When she does not get a raise or a promotion
- 28:18Speaker 2: and says things like her title and pay grade is
- 28:21Speaker 2: not enough for her to guide others, but she will
- 28:23Speaker 2: still nitpick at other people's work. No surprises on why
- 28:27Speaker 2: she didn't get promoted. There you go. Thank you so
- 28:30Speaker 2: much for all your calls and texts, and let me sing.
- 28:32Speaker 2: A jingle and deliver it to you. 123, food news.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Food news. Joking with the good food news. Usually it's Sonia,
- 28:41Speaker 2: but today she's on MC. Not to worry, back with
- 28:43Speaker 2: us tomorrow. But this one involves our national carrier, Singapore Airlines.
- 28:51Speaker 2: I mean, majority of us here in Singapore, we are
- 28:55Speaker 2: always biased towards Singapore Airlines. You want to see our
- 28:58Speaker 2: airlines do well and hopefully, with the, uh, SkyTrek season
- 29:02Speaker 2: very soon, they can win the world's best airline. But hey,
- 29:06Speaker 2: how about this? They are rolling out more than 100
- 29:09Speaker 2: new and refreshed dishes across all cabin classes. So, let's
- 29:14Speaker 2: start with.
- 29:15Speaker 2: Economy class. OK, so some of the things to look
- 29:16Speaker 2: forward to roasted chicken breast and oriental style fish with
- 29:22Speaker 2: yellow bean sauce. If you're able to afford it and
- 29:25Speaker 2: fly premium economy, you get Irish lamb stew and chicken stroganoff,
- 29:31Speaker 2: just two of the many to look forward to as well.
- 29:34Speaker 2: Business class. You have prawn cocktail.
- 29:38Speaker 2: Sew or roast pork with wonton noodles and roasted cauliflower steak,
- 29:43Speaker 2: and you also get Singapore style prawn noodle soup and
- 29:46Speaker 2: Indonesian dishes like jackfruit or pw with blue pea rice
- 29:51Speaker 2: and vegetariannasi padang, and if you can go higher, maybe
- 29:55Speaker 2: if you have enough miles or for your honeymoon or what,
- 29:58Speaker 2: sweets and first class, you've got poached Maine lobster.
- 30:02Speaker 2: with champagne sauce and beef short rib sambal perchik with
- 30:05Speaker 2: nasi kabo. Hopefully I'm saying that correctly, and other dishes
- 30:10Speaker 2: include the likes of suvi chicken thigh roulet. You get
- 30:13Speaker 2: lobster royale and citrus marinated lobster. Again, you know me,
- 30:18Speaker 2: I'm more of a meaty person, so all the meat,
- 30:20Speaker 2: the chicken and the beef and the Irish lamb stew,
- 30:23Speaker 2: give it to me. I'll take it.
- 30:25Speaker 2: It's gonna be progressively rolled out and then maybe from
- 30:28Speaker 2: November 8th, you can look up for the new drinks
- 30:31Speaker 2: and tableware on board Singapore Airlines. Always a great way
- 30:35Speaker 2: to fly. Congratulations guys. Now, I'm gonna share something with
- 30:38Speaker 2: you and I wish Sonia were here to either calm
- 30:42Speaker 2: me down or just call me crazy or maybe even stupid. Um,
- 30:46Speaker 2: you know,
- 30:48Speaker 2: I'm still one of those people, maybe a handful of
- 30:51Speaker 2: people here in Singapore that still uses a bunch of
- 30:53Speaker 2: house keys, OK, for my door locks and all that
- 30:56Speaker 2: to which I've left it in the studio many times.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Thank you very much, and Nicole and Sonia for helping
- 31:01Speaker 2: me grab it back. And yeah, occasionally I leave it
- 31:05Speaker 2: in the tray.
- 31:05Speaker 2: Station also Sonia I was like, can you please go
- 31:08Speaker 2: and get a digital lock, you know, just put your
- 31:10Speaker 2: numbers in your, in your, your, you can enter your
- 31:13Speaker 2: house without having to carry your house keys around and
- 31:15Speaker 2: you misplace them. And I went, OK, yes, uh, the,
- 31:17Speaker 2: the day I get a new place, I'll do it,
- 31:20Speaker 2: but I have this fear, this fear is what if,
- 31:22Speaker 2: you know, the battery runs out.
- 31:26Speaker 2: And I'm stuck outside and she goes, Can you stop overthinking,
- 31:30Speaker 2: joki Ma? Then they'll give you a signal. It will
- 31:33Speaker 2: start beeping to let you know that the battery is
- 31:35Speaker 2: going low. And then I read this on Mothership and
- 31:39Speaker 2: I sent this article to Sonia and I said, Hey,
- 31:42Speaker 2: this could have been me. Two, there are two boys
- 31:46Speaker 2: who wanted to go back home to their flat over
- 31:49Speaker 2: at Yishun, and they realized the door lock.
- 31:52Speaker 2: It was low in battery. What did they try to do?
- 31:54Speaker 2: The door lock was actually not powered because the battery died.
- 31:57Speaker 2: In other words, they tried to climb into their flat
- 32:00Speaker 2: and they had to get the SCDF to rescue them.
- 32:03Speaker 2: So yeah, again, it's could have been me, but I
- 32:06Speaker 2: would not have been so foolish. I might have called
- 32:08Speaker 2: the locksmith. So I sent this article to Sonia and say, hey, look,
- 32:12Speaker 2: this could have been me. She replies to me saying,
- 32:13Speaker 2: ha ha ha. I would have laughed very hard if
- 32:16Speaker 2: that were you.
- 32:18Speaker 2: But again, I, I, I feel justified that my allegations
- 32:21Speaker 2: and fears were not unfounded. Like it can actually happen. So,
- 32:26Speaker 2: check your batteries, people. Thank you so much for letting
- 32:29Speaker 2: me keep you company solo. Tomorrow. Hopefully, Sonia's back with us.
- 32:33Speaker 2: She's taking a day of rest to really calm her
- 32:36Speaker 2: sinus infections down. The haze, again, please make sure you
- 32:40Speaker 2: check the PSI and the p.m. 2.5 readings before you
- 32:44Speaker 2: plan any activities and stay safe.
- 32:46Speaker 2: Especially to all the run clubs. If you're still running,
- 32:49Speaker 2: I mean, well done to you, but make sure you're
- 32:51Speaker 2: keeping your health in check because we are fast approaching
- 32:54Speaker 2: the Garmin Half Marathon, and I think the GE run
- 32:58Speaker 2: and very soon it's the BYD full marathon, half marathon,
- 33:01Speaker 2: 10 km, 5 km on kids's dash. If you haven't
- 33:04Speaker 2: done so already, please go for a health checkup. Make
- 33:06Speaker 2: sure your heart is in good condition to take the
- 33:09Speaker 2: distance of a 5 km, 10 km, half marathon, or
- 33:13Speaker 2: full marathon. Don't play.
