Transcript
- 0:02[SPEAKER_01]: Hi folks, welcome to the episode of Film Study.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_01]: This is Kendrick Music.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_01]: We have the pleasure of talking about the offense tonight from that preseason win over the Eagles.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_01]: Great showing by both sides of the ball here, but to join me to talk about the offense tonight is Nick Mehta and Nick, how you doing?
- 0:15[SPEAKER_00]: To a great can, thanks so much for having me.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_00]: Quite a start to the preseason, quite a start to the Jesse mentor era.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: It was really one of the things that stops me on both sides of the ball was how, and I can't find a better word for this
- 0:30[SPEAKER_00]: everyone looked very assignment sound, everyone knew what they're supposed to be doing on every play and I thought that was just really, really encouraging often.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, really evident certainly something that we've seen from from McDonald's, McDonald's defense in in 23 and 23.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: I would say 22 for some of the season, you know, after they got real quiet, but then I would say last time he was terrific is a two sided effort in terms of what they did.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_01]: They won snap count 76 to 40.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_01]: They did it on both sides of the ball and they did it without any turnovers, which is frankly remarkable.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_01]: that they were able to throttle the eagles the way they did through 55 minutes of the game through the whole game in total, but but through 55 minutes of the game even more so with the 76 to 40 snap advantage.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I was expecting mentoring and key on Martin to be a little bit more upset about not getting the shutout at the post game presser.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't really show much emotion about it.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_00]: But I think, like you said, for 55 minutes, I mean, the Eagles, there's all this talk about Sean Manion.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_00]: And I know what's the preseason and hurt wasn't plague and all the relevant caveats there.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_00]: But just for Raven's fans to come in and see Jesse mentor be as advertised.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_00]: You know, a little bit more exotic than I was expecting.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't all vanilla.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_00]: He threw a couple of tricky play calls in their defensively.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: And just really enjoyed watching the, again, I gotta find it better where the competency, but the cohesion, I think, is the best way to put it between all parts of the field and how organized secondary was.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: It didn't really notice any major blood coverages or anything like that that you would expect out of a preseason game, new play call or new system, a lot of new young players in there just was just very, very impressed by mentors and back on that game.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I would agree, and you know, go down further.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: You can probably put Mickinson that group too.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_01]: I think that the finger prints of the coaching staff were all over this game.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: I kind of want to save that for just a little bit later.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: But some great stuff there, absolutely suffocating performance by the defense.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, beautiful night.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_01]: We're just nice to be at the park.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: And this doesn't always happen in the preseason.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_01]: We've had some rain and recent years and that other games where it's just been swelteringly hot.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: This was very tolerable, whether wise and a beautiful light for football.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_01]: To take the offense a while to get rolling in this one, once Tyler Huntley got out of the game, though, Fanyata and Reed were really on the mark all night.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Fagnano was really impressive.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_00]: And dating back to the spring, it's interesting that he was signed.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, alongside Diego Pavia, former Heisman winner, all the pop and circumstance and headlines of him coming to Baltimore.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_00]: And Fagnano is very quickly and very evidently to better quarterback between them.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_00]: But that comparison is a very favorable comparison for Fagnano.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_00]: Right, Pavia is really, he just does not have anything near an elephant
- 3:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, with his story next to Fanyano, Fanyano looks like a pro.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_00]: Fanyano has been able to calm in and actually establish himself and look like he belongs.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_00]: And it's interesting, he was just been okay in practice.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_00]: He's been making intercede throwing interceptions as an under after rookie quarterback is going to do.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_00]: But really stepping out to the plate and shining under the lights.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_00]: I think the composure that he showed was probably the most impressive part beyond.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_00]: The throws and some of the placing made, I know we're going to get into that more detail, but just from a bird's eye view, his ability to come in, run the offense, he threw, he had 29 drop-ups, he passed the ball, played more in general than I was expecting, and really just didn't look never look like the lights were too bright for him, so I really commend him for that.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think there were other things I liked about Fannyano's game as well, but I think one of the big ones was, you know, pocket presence was good.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_01]: He moved around in the pocket a little bit to make himself some additional space.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's really sometimes hard to pull this apart from a typical preseason game because.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_01]: the trick plays that most offenses runs are all these tired old boot plays.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_01]: They're always rolling out the quarterback, usually, you know, zoned block left naked boot right, but they throw in one going the opposite direction because that's got to be extra tricky.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_01]: And yet up with six or seven or eight of those plays in a single game,
- 4:43[SPEAKER_01]: And it's just they never run that many in the regular season, but they don't want to run other trick plays that really dig into their actual working capital, a trick plays, they want to run these little crap trick plays, anyway.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_01]: So that's what they did a lot with him.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_01]: He did a good job throwing on the move.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: I thought even more impressive was he stood in against pressure very well.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_01]: So not only was the pocket presence there in terms of understanding where that pressure was coming from, but when he was going to take a hit, he went ahead and delivered a nice accurate ball and then took the hit.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so, and the Ravens have tried a couple times in the Lamar Jackson era to develop a fine-to-young developmental QB3, and they've never even gotten to this point with one of them, where they have a solid preseason game and you think, okay, here's something we can really work with.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure I felt ever felt that way about Leary.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: I've really liked Leary like at the combine and like throws a great ball, but never felt
- 5:38[SPEAKER_00]: really confident about his trajectory, or felt like he had even a starting point to grow from involved somewhere where I was really like, okay, I could see this going somewhere.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_00]: So I think for Nyan was really the first time we've seen that.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: And then Austin really, you know, comes in this week has the experience with Declan Doyle in, you know, these past two off seasons or just past last off season with Chicago, they're excuse me.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_00]: And
- 6:00[SPEAKER_00]: All he's got to do is come in and close out the game, makes a couple plays.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: That scramble was great.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure Lamar and Snoopper going crazy on the sidelines for that.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_00]: And it just brings a vibe and energy of the Bravins have kind of this offensive
- 6:18[SPEAKER_00]: coaching staff that's really, really well built out.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_00]: And it's full of combination of young guys, you know, you've got guys like Israel Woolfork, obviously Dolors really young, but then you've got a Faulkner, you've got Joe LeBardi on this staff, a former offensive, two former offensive coordinators, I think there's at least one more.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: And so it was really excited to see how this staff came together, I thought, mentor.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_00]: Doyle, we've made a lot of really interesting choices and how they built the staff.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_00]: And it's early, but you feel like some of it's already, you can see why they made some of those moves.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't want to say pay off, but you're starting to see some of the results.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_01]: You can definitely see the finger prints of the coaching staff on this game and we've got a lot of talk about that.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_01]: As we get through the rest of the socials, let's put a pin in that one for right now.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: But I thought I did think a great effort for the coaches, I thought the young receivers were as advertised and we'll get into them individually as we walk through.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_01]: You know, some of the position groups and we talk about individual players will hit them on both places probably, but Really great game for Walker, Serat, and Elaine on a combined basis.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_01]: They did, you know, they the three of them had a fumble and Serat had a fumble Obviously, but other than that, you know, they went down to the ground to get the ball
- 7:31[SPEAKER_01]: Lane presented himself very well and he didn't have to reach he reached back for one ball But he did do much out you did have to do much else outside the frame.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_01]: He had a great game So, you know you got to be I know there's a lot of wide receiver fanatics out there in in In flock nation who've been very disappointed over the years
- 7:50[SPEAKER_01]: This is a year, start getting excited about our young players, and also, I wouldn't make last night into a referendum about Rashad Bateman.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_01]: Rashad Bateman is still the number two receiver, and that ain't changing, at least not immediately.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: And he's really been good in camp this year, as we've seen.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_01]: We're not going to see him in the preseason for very good reasons.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know,
- 8:17[SPEAKER_01]: the word came out today, obviously from Jesse Mentor, that it's going to be a very similar group of players in the second preseason game.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_01]: So it's not going to change in the third preseason game.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_01]: So I think this pretty well sets the mark that, you know, the 20 years so guys that sat out for this game are going to take the whole preseason all.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I agree.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: Go back to Bateman very quickly.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_00]: He's talked in this training camp about getting different looks in the offense, getting looks out of the slot, which is something he really did not do at a high rate in the first several years of his career.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_00]: I believe it was among the lowest rates of getting usage out in the slot for those first several years of his career, and so that that change is going to be
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: really big to see his usage diversified and you know a guy who just we've seen him get open on tape so many times and it just has never felt like quite the right fit in his role in the offense and Munkins offense he's obviously very much a deep threat and he felt he said he felt one dimensional in that respect and so the fact that the Ravens have these guys laying and walkers so rot emerging to me is just
- 9:17[SPEAKER_00]: These are guys who are going to be able to take full advantage of the opportunities they get of the fact of, you know, defenses devoting their attention to zafel hours and dare a kind ring the march accent.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, Bigman and Andrew's being the secondary targets, you know, front in the passing game, they're still going to get plenty of attention from opposing defenses.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_00]: And so what really Saturday said to me about the unit as a whole is that these guys are going to be able to really punish opposing defenses for not giving them enough attention and for giving them easy matchups.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I would agree.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's the additional targets really showed up in a very positive way in terms of what's going on.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's look at some of the key position battles.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_01]: I just want to start at the center because it's a place in one of the really two.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: significant position battles.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_01]: And by the way, I don't count why to see her three or four as a position battle.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_01]: Those guys will both get tons of snaps.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_01]: Center, it could be a one or zero for somebody in terms of how many snaps they get the whole year.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, Pitzer started, played 15 snaps.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: He definitely got the Starter's treatment.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he played exceptionally well.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_01]: He, you know, a huge offensive holding flag really kind of marred the outing.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: Didn't do a bad job passbarking.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying that and there were some decent exchanges that went on in passbarking, but he had 15 snaps he played.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, pitchers been in the lead since the spring for the center job, but a lot of that has been because of his experience and the my view on the center, the center competition has always been slanted in favor of past protection, knowing that the Ravens have such a solid run game, they've, you know, two capable run blockers at guard.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: And obviously Derek Henry Lamar jacked in the back field, not that I don't care about the suners run Run blocking ability, but we all watched the Ravens play football last two years, and we all know that passwalking is really what did this team in Offensively more than any other single thing, and so
- 11:15[SPEAKER_00]: That's why Pinter has been a relatively steady past blocker in his career, but he's been a backup.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_00]: He's never been asked to go out and start an entire season and hold up in past protection over an entire season.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_00]: And so getting at this juncture in his career, he's wasted 30, 30 this year, I believe.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_00]: And so you do wonder a little bit, like is this, you know, is this guy going to be able to hold up the entire season?
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: The experience is great but to me it's not so much experience and because it's a new offense everyone is coming in at at a certain level together that it's not like a major overriding factor to me and in what I want to see in this competition.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_01]: The guy who had a lot of experience coming in last year and ended up losing his job was Joe Nodbum and he lost his job to Carson Vincent by the end of the year.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_01]: He wasn't even on the game day roster.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_01]: Vincent was ahead of him.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_01]: Continue back on the center group though.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_01]: Postsick.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody's expecting him to take the job or a lot of people are certainly.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_01]: The Ravens brought him in.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_01]: He's got a ton of experience.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_01]: This is 10th NFL season.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_01]: And he played the last 14 snaps of this game.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_01]: Two drives.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_01]: He was fine.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_01]: He had a really violent pancake on the final real snap that was past the echo of the whistle.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it was a really, almost a cheap shot.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_01]: I think at that point he was, he was driving the guy to the ground.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_01]: But it was, I mean, you got to take it out of the game situation a little bit at that point.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_01]: It's probably not put the guy on the ground.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_01]: After you've just gotten the first down,
- 12:44[SPEAKER_01]: There's no need to do it, but postsick doesn't really seem to be ready based on his usage, usage more than his actual play.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_00]: Clearly, you was just excited to be back out on a football field.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_00]: So those are that, that I don't blame him for, but yeah, well, the post-acplayed 14 snaps, Pinter played 15 and you just listened to how we're talking about them right now.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: They were fine.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't embarrass themselves.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't, you know, they didn't have any horrific plays.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_00]: Pinter had that, Pinter had the holding, they ended the Ravens second drive.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_00]: Postsick didn't, you know, wasn't exposed horribly, that the pick kick after the whistle wasn't really, the whistle doesn't really mean a whole lot.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_00]: Ken, you and I have had this conversation.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_00]: I think a couple of times this year about there is an extent to which the Ravens just need a baseline of serviceable center plate, the EG average center plate in this offense.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_00]: And that stability is really what they need more than anything else than, you know, this is not a disontile lunar bomb, but taught lunar bomb is a plus, plus potential, a guy who can really add things to your offense as a center.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_00]: You know, barring that, and you know, I don't want to get too much into the like numbers and stuff here, but barring that just in terms of your resource allocation, getting a serviceable center is for for the money that they're paying them is really where they need to be for really any of the guys who could win the starting job this year.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_00]: That is to me the higher priority than.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_00]: You what what can I go do with this guy as a blocker the way they could with Winterbomb?
- 14:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's literally an 80% of the player at 20% of the price situation.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_01]: They have a 6 million dollars invested in the position I believe among those three guys.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, Winterbomb is 27.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_01]: And it's a 27-A-V over three years.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_01]: It's just no small commitment.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's a multi-year commitment.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_01]: And Linnabom is a, you know, just an average, league average pass blocker.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe a little bit above, depending on what you look at, but as penalties were very serious, you see, you know, you got a really value run blocking over pass blocking.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I've heard you say it, but this is something I've preached for many years is the relative importance of,
- 14:48[SPEAKER_01]: pass-bocking, run-bock is higher at any position, and PFF has kind of in my opinion led people down the wrong path by overweighting, run-bocking relative to pass-bocking at the two interior positions.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway, it is what it is, but the guy we haven't talked about and we left for last is Javan-Win.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I want to do this.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_01]: I want to leave this for the top of the second show, so we're going to split this into two episodes.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'll go into some real detail on Gwyn.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_01]: but qualitatively outstanding effort from Gwen and just completely different look from what I expected.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_01]: The guys are fire hydrant in terms of moveability as a past block or which I completely did not expect.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_01]: I expect that to be the problem.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_01]: Very violent.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_01]: It can placement is outstanding positions as feet very well, just qualitatively outstanding effort from women.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_01]: I'll get into some
- 15:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I was super, super impressed.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_00]: And in listen folks, listen to how Ken is talking about Javan going compared to how we were just talking about Ethan Posick and Danny Pintre.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_00]: This is actually was an exciting night to watch from the young guy.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_00]: I know that you've probably, I know that you have mentioned multiple times in the show.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_00]: You know, Ledford, Wayne Ledford, Raven's offensive line coach brings him up from Atlanta.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_00]: And I know for you, Ken, that was a big sign that this might be a legit competition for any legit competition for the center job.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_00]: If Ledford is bringing this guy with him and the Ravens have been some ways handed Ledford the keys of the castle, especially with that offensive line.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_00]: What can he come out and show?
- 16:22[SPEAKER_00]: And early in camp, and it's hard to see in camp, paths, no paths, contact, no contact, etc.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_00]: It's really hard for these guys to stand out and camp.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_00]: And so, in the back of your head you're like, okay, we'll pinch her, post it.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_00]: They've got the experience and you feel like they're in the lead.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_00]: And then you watch Javank win plan.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_00]: You're like, that is a guy that's fighting for a starting job.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_00]: That's a guy who's fighting to be a starter in the national football league.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_00]: And
- 16:44[SPEAKER_00]: You know, again, this isn't meant to be a knock-on-pimter and post-it, but I didn't see like that fire out of them in the same way.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_00]: When climbing to the second level was gorgeous last night, so some of the bots he was able to hit, I was just so impressed by his ability to navigate in space and, you know, it's just, it was not even expecting to be raving about 81 of these three guys after this first game, and to me, Gwyn really came in and, in my opinion,
- 17:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and it's obviously we should start seeing indications of that, but I'll just finish with this for the first show.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to get talk about July and win for probably 15 minutes of the second show as my guess, but if after this game
- 17:27[SPEAKER_01]: Javan-Gwin is not, has does not have some elevation of role, responsibility, life-fire usage in the Vikings' practices, whatever it might be.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_01]: If there's not an elevation, a further desire to see more of what this guy could do against the top level of competition available this time of year, then it was never a three-way competition to begin with.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_01]: They were just BSing us the whole way.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this is, this is, this is, this is, this is, this is, this is, this is, this is, this is, this is, this is, this is, this is, this is, this is, this is, this is, this is, this
- 17:53[SPEAKER_01]: the one guy outplayed the other two by such a ginormous margin, you have to take that seriously, unless you'd already made up your mind.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know why you wouldn't be willing to change it after seeing that game.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk more.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_00]: What you're describing is the John Harbog approach to guard competitions.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_00]: And so it would be really, really interesting to see if what you're describing is the case that when never really had to legitimate shot and the team isn't responding what they see out on the practice field and really even more importantly, in preseason because for so many years, John would be talking about, oh yeah, this guy's in the mix for the starting contact competition, this guy's in the mix,
- 18:35[SPEAKER_00]: Then if I let start to finish, why are we here for two seasons in a row and an area of a sense of competition, those years, real competition, those years, despite what Harbal said.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_00]: I have to say optimistic, just based on everything we've gotten from mentor, from Doyle, from Ledford, that this is not going to be one of those situations.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_01]: I certainly hope you're right.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's move on.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_01]: One thing I'd like to talk about this time years of order of entry so that we go through, we get a few comments of the players and you can leave some players out because you have a second chance to come back to him in part two of the show.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_01]: So I'll just toss that out there for starters Nick.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_01]: But at QB, we didn't really have any surprises.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_01]: Huntly was up for two series.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_01]: Then we saw Fanyano and he, you know, was got most of the rest of the game and then read had one drive plus the Neil Down Drive effectively.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_01]: to play Fagnano obviously got the quality juicy middle of the game and watch the same way that Javon Gwinn did.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, maybe you can even map it, the Fagnano got the play with Javon Gwinn, and so I had a really good game from that perspective, but he certainly did a fine job.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_01]: And then I very impressed with Austin Reed in the drive he had, some couple of on-target throws.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_01]: He lost another throw that Coriolis Johnson dropped, just a fine game I thought from Reed as well.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_00]: We do our right about Faniado and Gwen being playing the same 51 snaps and with with Huntley you know Huntley is such a gamer
- 20:01[SPEAKER_00]: He's kind of always better when he's got to get thrown into a game than to me the 20's I guess preparing for one He's just that kind of player.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_00]: He's always been in my eyes Maniano this is a consequence of the scholar Thompson I our placement obviously I think the Ravens were probably more looking at him to be their cuby three this year
- 20:20[SPEAKER_00]: You know, could have created a bit of a roster decision whether it's 53 men or practice squad, and then you got the injured, they bring in Austin Reed, but you know, again, we just just coming in, he has, you know, has not been been with the team, but has not been building chemistry and all that all those things.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_00]: And so when you're on a really just had to take on a lot, and I think that was.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_00]: Not that it's hard.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_00]: Guys who are competing for roster spots are trying to stand the mentality of always being prepared always being ready to go that's still a size of proportion of snaps responsibilities that he was handed and when you think about in a weird way when you think about one of the key goals of the Ravens on Saturday night was to highlight and.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_00]: see what they could get out of these rookie past catchers.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_00]: That them does put quite a bit on the quarterbacks to put those past catchers in positions to make plays and show what they can do.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_00]: And so that was also, I think, a really nice part about Finyano's performance and the meat of that game is being able to spread the ball out and hit the rookie guys and kind of let everyone get a chance to show what they did.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he did.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_01]: He certainly had a chance in some of the, some of the lesser receivers ended up playing with Reed at the end of the game.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_01]: So, Fanyano certainly got, you know, a good opportunity to play with the big three in this game.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_01]: Let's, oh, just open the box here and take a brief looking side here.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_01]: 20 seconds or less.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_01]: Just, Fanyano, make this team as a third quarterback within the 53 or he's hit the top of the practice squad.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_00]: Top of the practice squad for me.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_00]: I,
- 21:48[SPEAKER_00]: going on drafted and, you know, teams get their QB3 set and they want them during training camp.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_00]: It's really uncommon, but they would pluck them off the practice squad for their 53 as an undraft or rookie huge.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_00]: Just would not be.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_00]: Would not be what you typically see.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_00]: I would take the risk.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_01]: I would take the risk as well as as rosters start to a trip.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_01]: I think Fanyano, if you were to have another game like this would be a player that that other teams would look at.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_01]: There may be some other teams that scouted him.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_01]: And there may have liked him.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_01]: The Raven certainly got him and and I don't know.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's possible he could he could be gone before the end of the year.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_01]: When you get you know eight or ten quarterback injuries into the season, including back.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and then there's always opportunities to promote and for the 53, I don't believe he has any guaranteed money.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_00]: So that tells me he really didn't have a ton of interest or doesn't have much guaranteed money.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_00]: So it tells me he doesn't have a ton of interest coming out as an on draft.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_01]: I'd be surprised if he has anything but his UDFA signing bonus.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'd really be surprised, but I mean, that's just the nature of UDFA.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_00]: It's a small signing bonus, too, is what I'm saying.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_00]: Look, it's pretty minimal.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_01]: All right, let's move on to the running backs.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_01]: I arrested Henry Hill.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_01]: Ali was injured for the game.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_01]: Ali's status got a little murkier with midter's comments today at the podium.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and the Ravens signing Jonathan Ward on Sunday as well, at to their guy who's on the practice squad briefly last year.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_00]: So he said,
- 23:15[SPEAKER_00]: forget exactly we said that he was working through a very vague about Ali didn't really give any details and so we'll have to see if Ali even suits up at all this week for example and that could be a real issue for him making this roster.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's certainly, he is right on the bubble and the Ravens.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_01]: But Yano would be one example, but the Ravens may also want to keep a tenth offensive lineman say, so those are possibilities.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_01]: And there are people, including a bed I have with boss going on, let's say, this is the year that it'll be 26, 24 defense.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_01]: I was happy to do that.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_00]: Can I get it on boss's side on that?
- 23:51[SPEAKER_01]: I laid three to one, boss's side he thinks 26 defenders.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm with us.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_01]: Ooh.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_00]: All right, you want to, sorry, I've been on this boat for about a week, I think.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_01]: $20, even up.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so we're $20 didn't even money here.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_01]: Let's do that and then that will be the all the witnesses Ron air here.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_01]: That's great.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_01]: All right, so anyway, Randall saw a time he was the first in, then we saw Tautaliver and then McMillan.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_01]: They all were very similar in terms of running the ball.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_01]: They all had some decent gains as the game went on.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_01]: And they all did a pretty crappy job of pass blocking.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_01]: Tautaliver and McMillan each got run over by an inside line
- 24:33[SPEAKER_01]: It blitzing, and they not look good at all from that perspective, but as runners, they look good.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think Millen had a target, but I think Tao Tao over caught two balls and had a few yards there.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, another situation where because of injuries infections resting, these guys got a lot of run and felt like Redo, I think had a pressure he allowed to look like on one pass block two.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_00]: To be that was what the area was.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_00]: Honestly, maybe most curious to see him and I was probably more excited to see him run, but I was most curious to see how he was going to look in pass pro because that is going to be his quickest and best path to playing time early in his Raven's career.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_00]: And not quite there yet, he's obviously got the size for it, and that's what Keaton Mitchell was missing last year.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_00]: But just getting to see a little bit, it's never really felt like any of them got into much of a rhythm.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_00]: And then another really able to find that much space and break anything off, which is kind of a slog, it felt like for all three of those backs.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and it's still not bad in terms of success rate.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think they had some first-down runs.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_01]: They ran the ball right down the throat of the Eagles when they knew it was coming.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_01]: But I mean, the last drive, you know, they would have six-yard gain and eight-yard gain and then the game was over.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the Eagles knew exactly what was coming at that point.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, it's, I think they did a fine job running the football.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_01]: They didn't even better job, obviously, of passing it.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I don't think there's any surprises in that running back group, by the way, and I think Ward effectively that signing is probably one to try and get them through the pre-season.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_01]: So they want a guy at a minimum salary that they can help them, take some snaps, get him through the pre-season, hopefully it doesn't get hurt, and, you know, he'll build up a little bit of tape, hopefully from, from that as well.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_01]: Taut Oliver and McMillan, I mean, one of them, there's probably room four in the practice squad, assuming Ali is not the guy on the practice squad.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_00]: And again, not knowing what the deal is with his injury and, you know, even thinking ahead, is this an IR placement scenario and he did, you know, even if it's kind of a phantom IR placement scenario, like the Ravens have been known to do every now and again, could this be a situation in which case, one of Taltalavera McMillan, you'd have to expect would be on the practice.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to say this, if they I are, if they try and make an eight week I I are for a midseason replacement out of all the which is they have two spots to do that now that are basically replaced the handshake deal and then they can use handshakes in addition to that although the Ravens honestly look up and down this roster there's almost nobody who fits the handshake criteria.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_01]: That's the problem.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_01]: There's one is John Jenkins he's only one, but John Jenkins has three 50 and guaranteed money.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_01]: And so it does, because they save 1.66 million if they cut them and I think he's actually a cut risk.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_01]: I actually not make it the team cut risk because they want to keep saying a koya or something.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_01]: So they have, you know, I talked about this a little bit on the defensive pod yesterday, but Jankens is spot could be up for grabs.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_01]: I think that Washington is not sure of a spot in Washington's case.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_01]: They probably would try, you know,
- 27:38[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, they almost have to keep them if they can't trade them, but they'll try very hard to trade them would be my guess and and they really want that roster spot.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_01]: So what they've what they've done is they basically mitigated the risk of the preseason by having them around in terms of hate and all their defensive line goes are definitely going to hold up then we might need Washington.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_01]: or if we have some of these young players shine and now it looks like some of that's happening because Benny played well, I thought people's played well, a Koye looked big in the game.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_01]: They have three young guys they'd probably like to keep all of them on the roster if they had the spots they don't have the spots.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_01]: They might not have the spots, but even one of them is the problem, but you could replace Jenkins with a Koye and you could replace
- 28:24[SPEAKER_01]: Washington, if you trade him with either Benier Peoples.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_01]: So, or you could carry 60-fence of lime, and what you've talked about, I just don't believe in Ravens are gonna do that.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_01]: It would be a big departure, and I know it's new coaching, but it's still Eric DeCosta, and he's gonna wanna manage the roster in the way he sees fit.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think the defensive line or defensive back or the two places why I think there could be 26 26 defenders, but not to get to too far off topic over to the tight end room.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_00]: Nothing like nothing super surprising here.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_00]: I would say obviously Andrews smith him resting tells me that he is going to have a.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_00]: really substantial early season roles around a problem in probably the entire season as a run blocker.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_00]: It was interesting here.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_00]: I can't remember now who who was specifically you might went when I say it.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_00]: Someone compared Deckland or Durham's might to Patrick record.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_00]: And in one of the press conferences this week, and I can't remember who it was, I think it might have been one of the tight ends might have been Josh Quavus, and obviously the comparison is not he's, you know, a 300 pound full back with comparison is how the Raven see him as a blocker and using this kind of a movable block or a versatile piece, the way that they use your card and they were able to use him a bunch of different ways, bunch of different environments, different types of blocks they asked him to hit.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_00]: So it almost feels like they're expecting terms myth to, again, not be Patrick Ricard to be a 300 pound fullback, but fill that kind of feature and block or ask role that Ricard has had in past seasons.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they do have like two guys who kind of fit that that mold.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to call a smith one, but Scott is also one.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_01]: He's really more in the role.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_01]: He's slimmed down dramatically this year.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_01]: He probably weighs 262, 265 right now.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_01]: And he's got catching ball out of the backfield.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_01]: So he's a very unrecorded like a netbacker.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_01]: We saw record run and a number of flat rounds.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_01]: It is clear with the rapants that basically were, you know, balls he caught at the line of scrimmage and then looked for a fearful defender to run over.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_01]: There's just, with Scott, I think he's actually has the potential to catch the ball down the field eight yards if you need it into.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_01]: What he ran actually was a very record-esque route in this game where he had, I think, you know, one plus seven or something on the route, but still nice to see him get in there and catch up.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_01]: We see him catch up all what maybe six, seven times in camp over the course of two and a half weeks so far.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I feel like I've seen the drops reduce from last year to the spring to training camp as well, which was a little bit of an issue before, so the practice squad guy probably is best still.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_01]: We're kind of bearing the lead here because Anderson Spite sat out and Josh Hibner, sorry, Matt Hibner was putting the players together there.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_01]: Matt Hibner had a great, a great game was one of the real stars for the Ravens and one of the problems that I noted in camp for their two big ones.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_01]: One is wasn't holding onto the football at nearly the rate you'd expect and that's a two part thing.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_01]: He wasn't.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_01]: He had some drops, but he also was bobbling balls and double catching them, which was costing in the act.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_01]: And the other thing he was doing was he's catching all shortballs.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_01]: Everything was, you know, seven on seven.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_01]: He was in the middle of the field in front of defenders, you know, 11 on 11, you know, he's catching flat route after flat route.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, that's just not what you want to see out of your big, you know, vertical seam challenging across the middle between L2 and L3, tight end that's supposed to change your offense, son.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_01]: He's, you know, he's one of your flex guys.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_01]: and then it gets free down the left side line of Tyler Huntley hit him for the 29-yard play, which is a thing of beauty, and one of the only times he's been behind, he's probably is the only time he's been behind behind the defense, all stubborn.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's been a lot of short intermediate, outs, flats, sit routes for the tight end, it's, it's
- 32:11[SPEAKER_00]: part of I think the reason that there has been concern about the tight end is just how bland the offerings have been from them and that's in some ways it's not even really you know their father's what they're you know being being coach being coordinated to to do play call and all that uh... with with him or i think and i noticed this in practice last week and obviously it should have been the game is
- 32:31[SPEAKER_00]: This is a guy that needs to be on the move, and you got to hit him and stride for him to use that athleticism.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_00]: His conversion from catching and turning into a ball carrier looking for Yack, just not a real natural thing for him yet.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's something he's going to get better at.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_00]: He has the natural athleticism.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_00]: He just doesn't have the feel for it yet.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_00]: But when you get him on the move, as the Ravens did on Saturday night,
- 32:51[SPEAKER_00]: You could tell that this is a guy who was able to catch the ball and strike and keep moving.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_00]: He has the acceleration, he has the agility to make a move in space and obviously dig it off to shake off at defender too.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_00]: And so it was really really just excited to see him get used in a way that I thought was more befitting his skill set.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, maybe a guy that can help the Ravens on extended place too.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_01]: He's got some, got some speed, got some ability, maybe, to make space to find it.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_01]: I think he'll probably have a pretty big catch radius.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody's got Jacoli Lane's catch radius, but I think or probably Mark Andrews, but he could be a guy who has pretty good catch radius for a tight end that you see, you know, Jackson could put up the ball to a general area when in trouble.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_01]: and make a play.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_01]: And that's all he really ever wanted for my Zale likely on that, is that everything, but it was a big part of what he got from my Zale likely.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I felt that Hippener was as fine as a rum blocker and nothing spectacular, but he's not, you know, obviously he's not Smith.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_00]: He's not the guy, you know, I really want out there clearing the way for Derek Henry Lamar Jackson quite yet.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_00]: I think he only had looking at PFF right now.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_00]: He had two past-blocking snaps and not really much to take away from
- 34:01[SPEAKER_00]: I will say after the game just having that welcome in the NFL moment having that welcome to the NFL moment It'd be a positive one a lot of guys.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_00]: It's a negative one, but this one is like, hey, I made it So it was kind of cool to to hear him, you know, he said he you're blacked out after the play It looked like I'm a side line.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_00]: He head-butted Mark Andrews not Andrews wasn't wearing a helmet And there's a little things like that that you see from a rookie.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, okay, he got to show
- 34:22[SPEAKER_00]: the skill set, the strength of his game, and so you can see him loosen up and feel like he's, you know, he's arrived a little bit more.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_00]: So definitely felt that for him on Saturday.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_01]: He said, he has a faulty memory on the field that seems sometimes he came to the podium the other day and he had this big lash across his neck.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_01]: And people asked, I think it was one of the female reporters asked him about it actually, and he couldn't remember where it happened.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_01]: He had a couple ideas, but he didn't know exactly where it happened.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_01]: I think I know.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_01]: Josh Quave has got in there for 36 snaps.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_01]: He actually led the tight ends and snaps.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, wasn't a great day for him.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_01]: His only catch was an 11-yard play, but which seems good, but it was a 9 plus 2 on 3rd and 11 where the underneath zone was,
- 35:05[SPEAKER_01]: 10 11 yards off the ball and it wasn't it wasn't anything that you'd write home about or you'd see even the video that you want to show your grandkids.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_01]: Just a fairly average night I thought for Quivas and one where he wasn't certainly one of the stars.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_01]: One of the things about this game was of the players they drafted in April.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_01]: Eight of the 11 players made a highlight play in this game.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_01]: Eight of the 11, and I can't count away this in that group.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_01]: They 11-yard throw is just, it doesn't eat the minimum standard for me.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and this is honestly really what we've seen from him in camp has not really been spectacular.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_00]: Has struggled really felt like he's struggled with drops at times that has improved, I think, over the course of camp, but not in a super significant way.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_00]: He's not making a lot of tough contested catches.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_00]: Again, this is a function of how the Titans are being used, I think it's worth noting.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_00]: But this, I mean, this is a guy.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_00]: could be a healthy scratch on game days to be as a rookie.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_00]: I just don't see really much of a role for him.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, not a guy I'm expecting to really shine on special teams either just given, you know, is athleticism and size.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_01]: So if you only have three tight ends act on game day, you lose your ability to play 13 with one injury.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_01]: And I think this is a place where I think you just take the risk and you have it the next week.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you have, yeah, I've quite this available again.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_01]: The next week, if Smith goes down or whatever,
- 36:31[SPEAKER_01]: And you probably have, you might have Scott back on the roster at that point if, if, if, if a, if a, a smite throw to go down for multiple weeks.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and even if you were doing with, uh, you know what, well, the way you're talking about Scott, it's, it's not impossible to me that the Ravens could see look at what Scott brings as a blocker and say we would rather have four hit the, the three other tight ends and Scott instead of Quiva's active on game days, even if Scott's being activated from the practice squad.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, I mean, and this is, you know, time has a tough position to adjust it.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_00]: It's a tough position to adjust to, you know, especially in Baltimore, where blocking is king and, and Quabas and Hibner are, you know, Hibner are very, very different usage in, in college, and what he's going to see here in the NFL, and so in line blocking is going to be a huge part of his improvements in getting and carving out a consistent role and really his long-term future.
- 37:22[SPEAKER_00]: Quabas isn't kind of a similar boat to me just really needs to work on just getting back down to the fundamentals of blocking and kind of rebuilding up his ability, his abilities and that respect.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, just as a receiver he just doesn't bring a ton to the table.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_00]: And so he is a guy who's good and need to become a solid blocker to carve out his role.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_01]: Now, completely agree, and that's obviously going to be a battle for him.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_01]: Let's be one of the wider Siever position.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure it's something everybody wants to hear about, you know, most people want to hear about.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_01]: They rested, baiting, and flowers, you know, I don't think there's any question about the number one and number two receivers on this team, but then the next three guys in all came in at the same time.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_01]: They basically all started, and that was Walker Lane and Wester.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_01]: And they all got good opportunities to play early with Huntley and in some cases play on to play with Plinyana a little bit.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, in all cases, they got to go on and play with Plinyana a little bit.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_01]: But really impressive games from all from well, from two of those three guys Western was to let's start with him because it's the easiest.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_01]: He was targeted three times.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_01]: He actually made a very good play reaching back for the ball that I think denied the other day.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_01]: The Eagles in Interception.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_01]: It looked to me like Thomas was tracking the ball behind him.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_01]: He was going in for the, you know, he knew he was going to have to go low.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_01]: He's on the sideline.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_01]: He was tracking the ball from the intersection.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_01]: Much as a way longer beam was on the ball like a tip by Silas Walters and he, he, he tiped the ball unfortunately the ball felt incomplete.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_01]: But he had three targets and no catches, honestly, a victim in a lot of ways of some inaccuracy when he was in there.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_00]: that.
- 38:58[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it's feeling more and more like his roster spot is safe.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_00]: I think so Rod's fumble is certainly not something that's going to help and we're going to get more to him in a second, but that's certainly not something that's going to help his eyes as a returner.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_00]: I know it came on offense, but it's certainly not going to help.
- 39:13[SPEAKER_00]: his cases of returner and the Ravens just don't really have another natural returner like Western.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think his lack of usage on Saturday night was an indication that he pretty much has this lot roster spot locked in.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_00]: There was maybe some question earlier on and always felt like he had the wide receiver position and someone had to come and take it from him, just doesn't seem like it's going to do that now, especially with Sirat and Elaine
- 39:43[SPEAKER_00]: There isn't the feeling of, oh, okay, well, like if we have some undrafted and some young receiver comes in, shows us a lot on offense, maybe he threatens Wester, the Ravens have that in their draft picks.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_00]: They're not going to look to bump Western now.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that's a valid point.
- 39:55[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think there was any danger to the top six.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_01]: I think this is one of the most locked-in groups of wider severs.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_01]: I've ever seen the Ravens have.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, we've gone through this whole camp and there hasn't been a camp darling, wide receiver at all.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_01]: There are a couple of people talking about Hillary, but not in terms of making the team.
- 40:12[SPEAKER_01]: it's about, you know, he'd be good at the top of the practice squad.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, people are talking about Jacoby Lane, certainly.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_01]: They hadn't really been talking about Serrat until, until this last game here.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_01]: But there's, there's, it really isn't a camp darling.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_01]: And almost every year there's that one wide receiver, there basically says, okay, can't leave him off the team.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_01]: You know, kind of, there's not a guy like that this year.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_00]: Jacoby Lane has sucked up all the attention, all the error in Baltimore.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_00]: Everyone is just just so,
- 40:42[SPEAKER_00]: It's also representative of, you know, where the Ravens are.
- 40:44[SPEAKER_00]: The fact that they have two starting wide receivers, two one, excellent, provol, caliber, wide receiver, another who I still believe in.
- 40:53[SPEAKER_00]: I, you know, I know where Shibetman's not those popular among Ravens fans, but a guy who I still think is a solid wide receiver to in this league, especially his price point.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_00]: And the fact that we are not scouring the
- 41:07[SPEAKER_00]: The the drags of our undrafted talent and hope for impact receiver, I think it's just a really positive sign for where the starters are and the fact that EDC has maybe finally hit on a couple of these receivers here.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, hopefully this isn't a year at any point where the Ravens consider bringing in a veteran receiver.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_01]: So, by the way, all the people you want us to find digs here, boy, what I'm gonna stake that would have been.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_01]: What a frickin' mistake that would have been.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_01]: To bring him in with this unit of wide receivers ahead of him, just would have been a big mistake.
- 41:39[SPEAKER_01]: And the people all want the auntie Johnson here or other players like that,
- 41:49[SPEAKER_01]: Dizz, Brian, that's right, I have lost his name for a second, but there's Brian.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_01]: You know, all of the things that people have wanted over the years of these washed up-lined receivers, it's much better if you can draft them and obviously get the value out of them on their first contract.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_01]: And the Ravens have got that I think right now and really need to flex this opportunity with these guys.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_01]: You know, all three of them look like they're going to deserve snaps and they really they want to get these guys between the three of them a number of targets that might be similar to maybe flowers or even maybe a little more between the three of them.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, yes, I agree.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that what you're seeing is that this is a group that can do multiple things.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_00]: I felt like coming into the season.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_00]: There was a little concern about Sirot and Lane and Walker.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_00]: carving out specific roles becoming a little too predictable and limited and how they're contributing.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_00]: But if you look on Saturday night, it was a lot of different ways that those three guys were contributing to the offense.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I thought, you know, what we saw in this game in particular,
- 43:08[SPEAKER_01]: And I could go into this in the second part, but I'll just go into here, in terms of walk or in particular, was that this was a guy who's running some of the complimentary routes that he won't run during the regular season.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_01]: Campy actually has been running tons of deep routes and the quarterbacks have been consistently under throwing him and it's just made him look a lot less than lane.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_01]: in camp.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he's had a worse camp at all.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's had a great camp himself.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_01]: I've been very good about that.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_01]: One thing, I'm not crazy about the way he carries it around after he gets a deep ball.
- 43:38[SPEAKER_01]: It's underthrowed, but he's got an open deep, and that's really been very cool.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_01]: And hopefully the quarterback will get a dialed in with him in terms of finding the spot or figuring out how to do that right.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_01]: In this case this game he didn't have any deep route to Iran, but he run it ran some complimentary routes from crossing some comebacks.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_01]: He had a dig, he had a, he had a, it's just a sit down route in the middle about four yards past the line of scrimmage.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_01]: It was not a big deal, but you know, Walker needs to have these other routes in order to exploit the value at the top of the stem of a, a quarterback not knowing, you know, what what he needs to do.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_01]: So he needs to have some other things to go with that.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_00]: 100% I think that has been something I've lost very closely in campus and diversifying his route tree and using his athleticism in more ways than just going vertically.
- 44:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's probably the best player on the team right now in terms of taking a cross or turning a corner up field like he's taken a bunch of
- 44:35[SPEAKER_00]: you know, relatively short drag routes and and just burns whoever's behind him in coverage and turns out field for a big gain and you see like okay this this is a guy who's they're more there are more than there's more than one way to use his size and his athleticism that just on on the vertical defaults that you know he is very good at is going to be a part of his diet this year but to get on the field in the NFL if you got to have it more diverse if I drive tree.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_01]: So he made a great point just then about he's a guy who can take a ball where he catches the ball coming across the field and then find the place to turn that up vertically.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_01]: He's been very good at that, but he has tremendous number of opportunities in this game.
- 45:14[SPEAKER_01]: He got a low ball, had to go down and get it on that what it was 15 yards or so.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_01]: play he made.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_01]: And by comparison, Jacobi Lane got a beautiful, you know, shoulder high ball to catch where he easily turned the corner and both outraced and out muscle the two defenders to get into the end zone there.
- 45:34[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there's a huge difference.
- 45:36[SPEAKER_01]: I mean,
- 45:37[SPEAKER_01]: Walker needed up all right then, probably you might have had 10 extra yards or you might had 35 extra yards in terms of where he caught that ball crossing and the potential for a a much bigger gain.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_01]: So something's a little bit about the quarterback there and
- 45:52[SPEAKER_01]: Sarat I thought he did pretty well after the catch as well.
- 45:56[SPEAKER_01]: He had he had most of his throws were coming back and kind of going low for the football, which I thought that's good.
- 46:03[SPEAKER_01]: He needs to be able to do that, particularly when you're a more of a closely guarded contested catch receiver, you need to be able to go low and have something to differentiate yourself in terms of where you can catch a ball around your frame.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_01]: Jacobi Lane is kind of anywhere, but I think for Sarat it's going to be mostly low that he gets the ball.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_01]: But he did you know he made a guy miss on the left side line.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_01]: He I think he made a guy miss on this on the fumble catch as well, but but unfortunately
- 46:28[SPEAKER_01]: Unfortunately, he made a guy miss, and then he didn't.
- 46:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm sure he felt the same way watching that as I did, can I was saying next to Kevin Richardson.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_00]: And we both kind of said at the same time, that ball's coming out, secure that ball.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_00]: Something of that nature focused on the fact that the football is exposed and former Raven, Sean Wade came in, punched out from Sarat, set out to the game that everyone was coming to pick him up.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_00]: teammates, veterans, and rookies alike coaches,
- 46:55[SPEAKER_00]: Coming to pick him up and make sure he knew that he, you know, still put together a really really solid game I think the yards after they catch juice is something that flashed on his film But because of his athleticism you really wonder how much is that gonna be able to translate to the NFL when you're playing all the athlete to the highest caliber And it was there he showed that juice and so you know
- 47:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be interesting to see, you know, he's probably right now the healthy scratch on game days if you're going to have one in that wide receiver room.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_00]: So, Rod is just because, you know, Walker's got the experience and seems to be carving on a role in obviously lane has been the darling, but so, Rod clearly has something to offer this offense.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_00]: So, it will be really interesting to see in
- 47:39[SPEAKER_00]: bit of theme, all summer, how are they going to, you know, figure out these roles in the wide receiver room and what's interesting is, I don't know that we really got answers on Saturday night so much as a reason to be intrigued and excited about all three of those guys.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, and that's fine.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_01]: We don't need any of this.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_01]: We can take the answer from the coaches 90 minutes before the first game, literally.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'm happy learning then who's going to sit?
- 48:04[SPEAKER_01]: I'm, you know, 75 or 90% sure that you sit a wider receiver out of this group.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_01]: Western, obviously, has a role, so he has to be there on game day.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_01]: I guess there would be some team, you might think, boy, we want to run 10 personnel or something, we want to make sure we protect our ability to do that and maybe they want to have a threat then, but, but, and then if you decide to do that, Serrat replaces Western for a week as your return guy.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_01]: So it could even work out from that perspective.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not expected by the way to do anything silly like that, but it's possible.
- 48:37[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get going a little bit because we're running a little bit behind now that's always great organic discussion.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_01]: We had Gillary and Wade, sorry, yeah, Gillary and Wade come in the game with Seret, but Gillary made some nice plays in this game.
- 48:49[SPEAKER_01]: Disserves a spot, probably deserves to be playing somewhere in the NFL based on what he's done, but I think he's a great top of practice squad fit for the Ravens if needed.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I create a guy who is...
- 49:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think.
- 49:03[SPEAKER_00]: a good camp last year, too, if I remember correctly, as his connection with, now I forget which quarterback was throwing the ball to them all last year.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I felt like a good camp last year is how to good camp this year.
- 49:15[SPEAKER_00]: Just a guy who's just not bring anything that's different and it really stands out in his skill set, but it's just a high quality player, the kind of guy that mid-season the Raven suddenly need to bring up a fifth wide receiver
- 49:31[SPEAKER_00]: way just is not turning into that gadget really dynamic athletic threat that people were hoping doesn't you know it doesn't really seem to be certainly in practice is not flashing as a receiver to even get any I don't even know if you got any returning opportunities in the game
- 49:50[SPEAKER_01]: But if you return the last point of failure.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_00]: So you return that a lot, you know, in terms of last point, but just to me, just hasn't shown the kind of flash and juice that you're expecting and really a guy that size needs to show if he's going to, you know, get onto a roster at some point.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, again, a guy who's just, I think, stuck on the practice squad and, you know, you know, it wouldn't, it's just looking at the Ravens, the rest of the Ravens, depth at wide receiver, you know, I could see them preferring to keep Chris more to,
- 50:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's possible.
- 50:20[SPEAKER_01]: I think Wade is a one for one replacement for Wester if something were to happen.
- 50:24[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's why they might keep him there, but the Ravens have had the last couple years.
- 50:28[SPEAKER_01]: They've had a lot of veteran receivers hanging around on the practice squad, you know, Sims and Miller and Kirkwood.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_01]: All these guys who basically were really fairly long in the tooth for an NFL practice squad,
- 50:41[SPEAKER_01]: and still hanging around trying to get playing time with the Ravens and the Ravens at times they were calling him up.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_01]: They, you know, they said, Los E. Flowers for a playoff game, they had Sims.
- 50:52[SPEAKER_01]: They had in there and, you know, it's just sometimes they got into this version of the Ravens, I hope it never comes to that.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_01]: I really hope it doesn't because they'll have a lost quality if it does.
- 51:01[SPEAKER_01]: let's move on a little bit talk about more and Johnson and Chris Moore, you just mentioned him here, 33 years old back.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's a three elevation guy from the Ravens practice squad, I think that's where he ends up.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_01]: Any different view for him this year, he could end up in the sixth guy if there were injuries, but...
- 51:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, when the Ravens sign him, you know, the thought was okay.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe in all purpose, special teams got it.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_00]: They prefer, prefering him his ability to contribute in all phases, special teams is supposed to dress a returner.
- 51:32[SPEAKER_00]: He broke off a returner in practice.
- 51:34[SPEAKER_00]: The other day as well does have experience as a returner.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_00]: So, and has, it's just, like you talk about these veterans, he's the kind of guy that they like, he's a real lunch pill guy, special teams, Ron Blocker, that has been in a bunch of different systems.
- 51:50[SPEAKER_00]: And it has put up some yards as a receiver, certainly more than I was expecting in the last couple of years of his career at this juncture, but you know, just looking at the way the rest of this wide receiver room is played out, practice squad at best.
- 52:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 52:03[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 52:04[SPEAKER_01]: I'm in the same spot on there.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_01]: Cornelius Johnson very unfortunate to drop at the end of the game on a very pretty, pretty
- 52:14[SPEAKER_01]: That was out there on the left-side line and could it look like he might have had yards after the catch maybe not But he but you know obviously we never got to find out because he dropped the football and then he got bailed out by a off-ball defensive holding because the defensive holding was on Bram It was the last guy to end of the game and not on Johnson at all so tough game for Johnson Bram That that was the contribution he made in the game was that defensive hold.
- 52:38[SPEAKER_01]: He was not otherwise targeted
- 52:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 52:41[SPEAKER_00]: Not really a whole lot to say about these guys hasn't been a whole lot to say about them in camp.
- 52:47[SPEAKER_00]: Pretty much camp bodies.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_00]: I think that, you know, again, the the fact that none of these guys are being really looked at really closely.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, what can this guy bring?
- 52:57[SPEAKER_00]: Can this guy do something is just a much better sign for the health of the Ravens Widersever room, uh, up higher on the depth chart than anything else?
- 53:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 53:05[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 53:06[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk about the offensive line and how they came into this game.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_01]: They rested Stanley Rosengarten in Simpson.
- 53:12[SPEAKER_01]: Simpson was just due injury.
- 53:14[SPEAKER_01]: I think in looking at this, I think Simpson should have rested anyways.
- 53:17[SPEAKER_01]: Been the league in a number of years.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_01]: I think he would have if healthy rest.
- 53:22[SPEAKER_01]: It may have even been healthy enough to go any rest at a many way.
- 53:25[SPEAKER_01]: And we saw two guys who are potential starters in Pinter and you want to actually get out there.
- 53:33[SPEAKER_01]: Pinter, we talked a little bit about terms of he had the holding coat when we talked at the center group.
- 53:38[SPEAKER_01]: You want to head a mix night, honestly.
- 53:39[SPEAKER_01]: And I know a lot of people, there's some great highlights, there's some great physicality in there, and there's a couple of really nice stunt hand-offs that he was involved in that I thought were good.
- 53:52[SPEAKER_01]: Um, there's also one thing I wanted to talk about in here that was one of the coolest things about you want to, but I want to give you a chance to respond first and then not, and then I'll bring up my point.
- 54:03[SPEAKER_00]: The great thing about about Simpson resting, uh, you wanted, I think part of it was just, you know, getting a chance to see him hit some dudes on a very primal level for Ravens fans who have been
- 54:19[SPEAKER_00]: seeing that erupt from him so quickly.
- 54:22[SPEAKER_00]: Was, you know, maybe I'm exaggerating a little bit here, but just as important as pretty much anything else he could do on the night, I mean, there's really no question about a starting job, obviously you want to see him succeed.
- 54:33[SPEAKER_00]: But I think getting that moment of, okay, this is as advertised, this is the guy we drafted, he's doing the things we drafted before.
- 54:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's just a real kind of checkbox moment for the preseason.
- 54:45[SPEAKER_00]: And to an extent, preseason is a lot of checking boxes.
- 54:48[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 54:49[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 54:49[SPEAKER_01]: So the Ravens started licked in hand at Ray Tackle.
- 54:52[SPEAKER_01]: We're not going to talk about him just yet.
- 54:53[SPEAKER_01]: But licked in hand at Ray Tackle.
- 54:54[SPEAKER_01]: He played the entire game, which is really nice.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought he played pretty well in general.
- 54:58[SPEAKER_01]: But while you want a was in there on the second drive, you want a I'm sure most people saw this either on the broadcast or definitely if you're at the stadium because they replayed a couple times at the stadium.
- 55:10[SPEAKER_01]: They showed a bodacious help block.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_01]: So to describe what a help block is, there's a guard bubble over the right side.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_01]: There's nobody directly opposite you want a for him to block.
- 55:19[SPEAKER_01]: Lichtenhand had an opponent that was and he had lichtenhand a more or less swallowed up his bull rush at that point but was maybe giving a little bit of ground.
- 55:27[SPEAKER_01]: So you want a job that is to process from inside out.
- 55:30[SPEAKER_01]: So he looks first of all.
- 55:31[SPEAKER_01]: Is there anybody from coming from level two?
- 55:34[SPEAKER_01]: Is anybody crossing the face of the center that I need to take care of?
- 55:37[SPEAKER_01]: Because my block here's possibly his go from inside out.
- 55:39[SPEAKER_01]: And then his last thing is to go, go take care of a help block for Lichtenhand.
- 55:44[SPEAKER_01]: And first of all, he went through that processing pretty quickly, which is good because we seen guards who didn't go through that processing pretty quickly, pretty quickly, whose names rhyme with Chilelli.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, and that we, he real subtle.
- 55:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 56:01[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, he went over and absolutely drilled that player and I don't have in my mind who it is right now.
- 56:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's in my article by the way, but here's the really cool part.
- 56:16[SPEAKER_01]: If you look back then by the flattened him, not knocked him on the ground.
- 56:20[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's ever 17 by the way.
- 56:22[SPEAKER_01]: But the very first drive of the game,
- 56:26[SPEAKER_01]: He's in this exact same position.
- 56:28[SPEAKER_01]: He's the guard bubble is on that side.
- 56:30[SPEAKER_01]: He processed inside, he goes over and he just kind of taps the guy.
- 56:34[SPEAKER_01]: Same guy, same opportunity, football does not have good control groups, but this is one case where there's a perfect one for one control group.
- 56:43[SPEAKER_01]: And it's very clear to me.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_01]: And this is one of the ways in which you can see the fingerprints all over the design that led for probably grabbed him by the collar and had a conversation with him about him.
- 56:53[SPEAKER_01]: What the hell are you doing out there?
- 56:56[SPEAKER_01]: You're literally, you're just tapping the guy.
- 56:58[SPEAKER_01]: Go knock him out of lefty, let's see some physicality.
- 57:00[SPEAKER_01]: And he went out there with a second drive and it was completely different.
- 57:04[SPEAKER_01]: And I wouldn't be surprised if there were other elements of physicality that were there based on a conversation.
- 57:09[SPEAKER_01]: But if that conversation did not occur, first of all, it should have, and second of all, it might have been the number two guy instead of, instead of lead for who had the conversation.
- 57:19[SPEAKER_01]: But boy, what a, what a absolute clear out.
- 57:24[SPEAKER_01]: on that on that second help block.
- 57:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and the, I mean, this is the lead for an influence, right?
- 57:32[SPEAKER_00]: And the combination of like very technique driven coaching that he has, but also his ability to tap into pure speed and physicality and you know, Adam Randall had in the post game mocker room, Adam Randall had a hat and said speed off the ball, which is, you know, the offensive lines mantra.
- 57:49[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, you see, you see that, you see that in play, saw that in play multiple times.
- 57:55[SPEAKER_01]: All right, so we got Pinter, you on and for a little bit, you want me some positive, some negative, so you know, there's certainly it was not a perfect night for him by any stretch, but it was great to see that physicality extended starters on us on the we're there as well that Vincent who played.
- 58:10[SPEAKER_01]: 60-some snaps, I believe, Jones, who was in for the same set of snaps as Vincent was and then licked an hand to play the entire game.
- 58:18[SPEAKER_01]: We talked about him a little bit.
- 58:20[SPEAKER_01]: Emery Jones really struggled on that first drive.
- 58:22[SPEAKER_01]: Terrible, terrible first drive for him.
- 58:24[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, he had three consecutive plays where he allowed some sort of pressure event.
- 58:28[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was two-thirds of a quarterback
- 58:32[SPEAKER_01]: on those three consecutive play.
- 58:34[SPEAKER_01]: So really ugly three play set for them.
- 58:37[SPEAKER_01]: But he really settled down when he moved back to right guard.
- 58:40[SPEAKER_01]: And I was wonder, is he only meant to play the right side?
- 58:45[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought originally it might have been the fact that the Eagles took some starters out of the game.
- 58:51[SPEAKER_01]: After the first or second drive, not the case at all, really.
- 58:53[SPEAKER_01]: They played rotationally pretty much the same way the Ravens did, same guys playing all through the night.
- 58:59[SPEAKER_01]: And they almost had to, given the fact
- 59:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Jones obviously played right tackle exclusively, almost exclusively at LSU, was, you know, come thought to be a guard coming to the Ravens injury rookie year, et cetera.
- 59:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's never really got a chance to settle in and we've seen this with guys who move around the offensive line and don't get a chance to sell it one spot.
- 59:22[SPEAKER_00]: It's, you know, interesting, Jones,
- 59:24[SPEAKER_00]: Now try to remember I can't talk my head which side he's been working on primarily in practice.
- 59:29[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I see.
- 59:29[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 59:31[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 59:31[SPEAKER_00]: And so that's just, just seems to be more comfortable, but the issue with that is then you have to make sure you have a dedicated left guard backup, which, you know, theoretically would keep Andrew Voorhees on this roster.
- 59:42[SPEAKER_00]: Even though I think that the, the, the, the, the, the reading goes to a contract with guarantees is already done that.
- 59:46[SPEAKER_00]: That does put him, you wonder if that puts him at left guard to a top at the, as the top
- 59:54[SPEAKER_00]: backing up right card.
- 59:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I and I think that's I would probably see that as the way they go.
- 1:00:00[SPEAKER_01]: The Ravens like to like make one for one moves where nobody has to move now they could obviously just had Jones jump in but then that'll even bear at two spots on the right side.
- 1:00:09[SPEAKER_01]: I kind of feel like Emory is the is the backup at right guard and right tackle.
- 1:00:13[SPEAKER_01]: We've seen Vincent get it get a swing opportunity there.
- 1:00:17[SPEAKER_01]: Vincent is much more of a natural left tackle.
- 1:00:20[SPEAKER_01]: He's got the feet forward.
- 1:00:21[SPEAKER_01]: He's got the
- 1:00:23[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's almost like if you use them at right tackle, you're almost taking a risk you don't want to with your your only backup left tackle.
- 1:00:31[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think you Rosengarten would be a good fit at all moving over there and so it's really you'd rather have Emory Jones be your backup right tackle.
- 1:00:39[SPEAKER_01]: All things being equal.
- 1:00:40[SPEAKER_01]: And I guess possibly number two, which we have to talk about after this is is Lichtenhanna guy, you have the top of the practice squad in case there's a tackle injury and and yeah, you have to you have to find somebody.
- 1:00:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's probably Jones to get you through a game But maybe Lichtenhanna's a guy that becomes the right tackle after an injury occurs to Rosengarden
- 1:00:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and Lichtenham played really well.
- 1:01:00[SPEAKER_00]: And you're going to get more of the details of everyone's performance, but the fact that he was asked to come in, kind of similar Fagnano with this weird situation earlier in the week.
- 1:01:08[SPEAKER_00]: Right, Taco Kendall Lam suddenly retiring.
- 1:01:11[SPEAKER_00]: The second veterinarian's offensive tackle had decided that didn't want to play two weeks.
- 1:01:17[SPEAKER_00]: Didn't want to play anymore, two weeks after shining with the Ravens.
- 1:01:21[SPEAKER_00]: Just, you got to wonder what Duane Ledford's haze and rituals are in that house behind room?
- 1:01:26[SPEAKER_00]: But that's a joke to be clear, but you know credit to him for cone out there and just and playing, especially when the Ravens had such a lopsided snap count, which you're a play count, which I know you're a big fan of, going out and planning the entire game as a piece of big guy.
- 1:01:44[SPEAKER_00]: That is not the easiest thing to do when you've been rotating and rotating and rotating all summer.
- 1:01:49[SPEAKER_00]: So a lot of credit to him, not just for doing that, but for looking really good.
- 1:01:54[SPEAKER_00]: for looking really quite good, better than I felt like he is looked in practice.
- 1:01:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I, I, I, he's more ahead.
- 1:02:01[SPEAKER_01]: I thought he was, he was, you know, not a guy who really could help the team this year.
- 1:02:06[SPEAKER_01]: I thought they had all the backups they needed to tackle.
- 1:02:07[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I'm, I'm feeling a little bit differently about whether Jones or Lichtenhand might be the multi game solution there if he had an injury to Rose and Gordon occur.
- 1:02:15[SPEAKER_01]: All right, we're going to go quickly through this green and four he's came in.
- 1:02:18[SPEAKER_01]: When we're going to talk about the second show, four he's I thought really struggled for a lot of the night.
- 1:02:22[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of difficulty and in particular, I was really bothered by a late, let's pick up where he left it for a running back and the running back of course gets run over.
- 1:02:30[SPEAKER_01]: I was one of McMillan or Taltala where I can't remember which one it was on that play because they're getting steamrolled by the interior defensive, I'm sorry, interior linebackers of the Eagles was so similar.
- 1:02:44[SPEAKER_00]: Honestly, not a ton to add there, just really that the, I guess I'm curious what the plan was earlier in the week before the labor retirement and then how that may have shuffled things elsewhere on the line and how they, you know, and why maybe they just decided, let's just have Lincoln Hand take the whole right tackles late.
- 1:03:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I just don't think there was anybody else to give it to.
- 1:03:08[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you could be Cory Bullock there.
- 1:03:10[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he played it in college.
- 1:03:12[SPEAKER_01]: That was during.
- 1:03:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:03:13[SPEAKER_01]: So I guess, I guess.
- 1:03:14[SPEAKER_00]: But Menter said that he was only going to play garden center.
- 1:03:16[SPEAKER_00]: So clearly, again, that was in Edo and the plan going in.
- 1:03:19[SPEAKER_01]: seems pretty secure to me that's going to put a guard at this point, but we'll see.
- 1:03:24[SPEAKER_01]: Five guys who are in the center competition, you know, at this point.
- 1:03:28[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, pound stockings, postsick, bullock gutting on the final drive.
- 1:03:32[SPEAKER_01]: We don't need to talk about them too much.
- 1:03:34[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't think pounds was bad, but Dawkins is a little bit out of position at left guard.
- 1:03:40[SPEAKER_01]: Not much to say about bullock in a short opportunity like this other than I hope he gets more
- 1:03:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, guard center and and has tackle experience and you think about, you know, we're talking about in a pinch, get you through a game.
- 1:03:56[SPEAKER_00]: You know, but it really comes down to it if you if you have two injuries along your offensive line then you know a guy that you're in a pinch and so a guy who's going to be able to get you the end of a game like Bullock who has at least some experience and knows what he's doing on some level out there is important.
- 1:04:11[SPEAKER_00]: This is also just a result of a guy who was injured for a bunch of the off-season Right and and doesn't get a chance to really carve out a spot during spring practices carve out a spot in training camp and really it's just been battling uphill the entire time
- 1:04:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:04:26[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, we'll cut it here for the first half of the show.
- 1:04:28[SPEAKER_01]: We'll come back, we're gonna talk about the lack of exotic looks in this game.
- 1:04:33[SPEAKER_01]: I want to hear your thoughts about this net because I know you mentioned that hey, we did see some exotic things, and there are a few.
- 1:04:38[SPEAKER_01]: I agree, but I want to talk about that with you.
- 1:04:41[SPEAKER_01]: But before we cut out, tell folks where they can talk football with you online.

- 1:05:12[SPEAKER_01]: He's just catching up to killing even now in TV shows which is he's several years behind our
- 1:05:19[SPEAKER_01]: correct me, be great show, but settle yours by.
