- 0:00Speaker 1: Back to Martimon.
- 0:02Speaker 2: I r.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Well, Michael Goodwin the best columnist in America. You can
- 0:09Speaker 1: read them every Sunday and every Wednesday in the New
- 0:12Speaker 1: York Post. All his columns are up on the New
- 0:14Speaker 1: York Post website. You should go take a look at them.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Michael Goodwin, how you doing.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Good morning, Mark? Thank you.
- 0:21Speaker 1: There was no column yesterday. You ruined my Sunday. I
- 0:24Speaker 1: know it was a holiday, was.
- 0:24Speaker 2: East I was gonna say almost every Sunday and almost
- 0:28Speaker 2: every day.
- 0:30Speaker 1: So what do you think the left going absolutely nuts
- 0:34Speaker 1: trying to convince us we're losing everything in Iran. It
- 0:37Speaker 1: looks like it's going pretty well to me when you agree, yes.
- 0:41Speaker 2: You know, Mark, I was just the pictures of their
- 0:47Speaker 2: downed American aircraft in this incident, and of course the
- 0:52Speaker 2: rescue is unbelievable story, but the picture of the down
- 0:58Speaker 2: the aircraft. The first thing that went to mind was
- 1:02Speaker 2: Jimmy Carter's attempt to rescue the hostages, and of course
- 1:08Speaker 2: the disaster of that effort, and it really, as Carter
- 1:15Speaker 2: said later, it probably cost him the election because the
- 1:20Speaker 2: hostages were held for something like four hundred and forty
- 1:25Speaker 2: four days until Ronald Reagan was elected, and it struck
- 1:30Speaker 2: me that that failed effort, bungled effort by Jimmy Carter,
- 1:36Speaker 2: in some ways became emblematic of this presidency. And if
- 1:42Speaker 2: Donald Trump, if this incident becomes emblematic of his presidency,
- 1:48Speaker 2: then I think he's at a whole different course right
- 1:52Speaker 2: looking at history, and that this is a good omen
- 1:56Speaker 2: about this war, as I hope it is. That Donald
- 2:00Speaker 2: Trump will have pulled off quite a miracle there.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Well, normal people say, wow, this was unbelievable, this rescue.
- 2:07Speaker 1: But if you're watching television or reading the New York Times,
- 2:10Speaker 1: all you keep hearing about is, well, it proves Iran
- 2:12Speaker 1: is still strong. They were shot down two of our helicopters.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Obviously they still have plenty of offensive capability. So what
- 2:19Speaker 1: do you do about that media spin? How do you
- 2:20Speaker 1: fight that?
- 2:23Speaker 2: There isn't much you can do if you're the lighthouse
- 2:27Speaker 2: at this point. I mean, they look, they hate Trump,
- 2:32Speaker 2: everything about Trump. You know, we were in a quagmire
- 2:36Speaker 2: in the third day. You know, they were on more.
- 2:39Speaker 2: I mean, it was Stantnamo over before we even began.
- 2:43Speaker 2: But look, I think if Trump try for kind of
- 2:47Speaker 2: shadow box, which he offer, does against that media I
- 2:52Speaker 2: think it'll only kind of they'll dig in their heels
- 2:56Speaker 2: and he'll get more and more frustrated. I think what
- 2:59Speaker 2: he needs needs to be able to do as much
- 3:02Speaker 2: as possible ignore them and let his record speak for
- 3:07Speaker 2: itself to the American people. There are still enough media
- 3:12Speaker 2: organizations that will cover the actual events instead of the
- 3:17Speaker 2: anxiety and personal opinion of the reporters. But I think
- 3:22Speaker 2: if Trump gets deeply involved in fighting this media war,
- 3:29Speaker 2: it's only going to be to his own detriment because
- 3:32Speaker 2: they're never going to admit that he's right about anything.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Well, of course you're right, but have you ever said
- 3:40Speaker 1: that Donald Trump just ignore the Chris.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Either. Look, I think on a human side, we will
- 3:50Speaker 2: all face the same temptation. But I think it if
- 3:55Speaker 2: he wants to go down as a successful president, thick
- 4:00Speaker 2: only in this context of Iran that we're talking about,
- 4:04Speaker 2: then I think he's going to have to focus more
- 4:07Speaker 2: and more on the accomplishments and let the record show
- 4:12Speaker 2: that if you have the thinged one of the nuclear
- 4:19Speaker 2: Islamist power, then you're on the right course to doing that.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Yeah, so we're talking Michael Goodwin, the greatest calumnist in America,
- 4:27Speaker 1: and then President Trump but tweets out open the F
- 4:31Speaker 1: and straight he uses the F word. It will blow
- 4:34Speaker 1: you into the stone. You're not supposed to talk like
- 4:36Speaker 1: that when you're a president. You're not supposed to ever
- 4:39Speaker 1: use that kind of language as a professional government. But
- 4:43Speaker 1: Trump does it all the time. When will people finally
- 4:45Speaker 1: get used to it and stop going crazy over it?
- 4:49Speaker 2: Yeah? I think they there's some kind of imaginary way
- 4:55Speaker 2: a president is supposed to conduct himself publicly. But this
- 5:01Speaker 2: is not a standard that they held Joe Biden too
- 5:05Speaker 2: right in terms of he couldn't remember anything, he couldn't
- 5:09Speaker 2: answer questions his son's corruption. That was that these issues
- 5:13Speaker 2: were kind of glossed over because Joe Biden didn't attack
- 5:18Speaker 2: the media. So it's really a personal fight that the
- 5:23Speaker 2: New York Times, the Washington Post, many other elements are
- 5:28Speaker 2: having with Donald Trump. It's not about their job. There's
- 5:32Speaker 2: journalists so much as it is personal.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Yeah, Hey, Michael Goodwin, mayor Mom, Donny. It's just about
- 5:38Speaker 1: one hundred days now. Hard to believe, but this is
- 5:40Speaker 1: his first hundred days. What do you think he said?
- 5:43Speaker 1: As crazy as he is, the good news is he
- 5:45Speaker 1: doesn't seem to actually get anything done. So I guess
- 5:47Speaker 1: that's good.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Yeah, it does seem longer than one hundred days, isn't it?
- 5:55Speaker 2: Some like forever? Look, I think mark the thing that's
- 6:00Speaker 2: coming up. It's coming like a freight train. Is this
- 6:05Speaker 2: issue of the budget and whether the city standing among
- 6:12Speaker 2: investors declines and therefore has to pay even more higher
- 6:18Speaker 2: interest rates to borrow money. And so this downgrade of
- 6:22Speaker 2: the credit watch from stable to negative by three bond
- 6:28Speaker 2: rating agencies is a real bread alert for him if
- 6:35Speaker 2: he really wants to kind of keep any kind of
- 6:37Speaker 2: public confidence. But if you think back to the city
- 6:42Speaker 2: fiscal crisis of the seventies, you really remember how that
- 6:49Speaker 2: lack of confidence in the York fed on itself, people
- 6:53Speaker 2: that businesses leaving the city. You don't want because financial
- 6:58Speaker 2: crisis can have can foster all kinds of other crisis,
- 7:03Speaker 2: crime crisis, for example. So Mandani needs to take this
- 7:07Speaker 2: seriously down.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Yeah, you mentioned if you we had Andrew Cuomo as
- 7:15Speaker 1: a governor, he was so far to the left, no bail,
- 7:18Speaker 1: no jail, close the prisoners, wouldn't he He would have
- 7:22Speaker 1: been awful as a mayor.
- 7:23Speaker 2: I think probably, Yeah, we'll never know, Right, he's smitties.
- 7:32Speaker 2: I don't think there's any political career for Andrew Como.
- 7:36Speaker 2: But I voted for him because not because I had
- 7:42Speaker 2: great love for his record, but because I think he
- 7:45Speaker 2: would have been better than Mamdani on fundamentals like this. Yeah.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Uh well yeah, people say he'd be better with the police.
- 7:54Speaker 1: But again, he's the guy that gave us no bail,
- 7:56Speaker 1: no jail. He's the guy that threw Ice out of
- 7:58Speaker 1: New York. He was no better. In fact, he might
- 8:02Speaker 1: have been worse than that. He actually was brave enough
- 8:04Speaker 1: to actually try to get stuff done. But so we
- 8:07Speaker 1: missed the call. We went to get a column on Wednesday, right,
- 8:10Speaker 1: Oh yes, oh good, it's not Sunday without your column.
- 8:14Speaker 1: But Michael Goodwin, great stuff. Thanks for being with us,
- 8:19Speaker 1: my pleasure. Thank you, Mark, take care. Uh hey, just
- 8:23Speaker 1: so you know, let me just check again.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Uh.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Stock market up, yep, the Dow is up. You know,
- 8:30Speaker 1: if you were watching all the Sunday shows, uh, they
- 8:33Speaker 1: had you convinced that the president's tweeting about using the
- 8:37Speaker 1: F word, the President saying we're going to blow her
- 8:40Speaker 1: in into the stone age. Why, this is the end
- 8:41Speaker 1: of the world. This is when the US we actually
- 8:45Speaker 1: heard this all over these Sunday shows and Oliver Morning
- 8:48Speaker 1: Joe type shows today. The US will never recover from
- 8:51Speaker 1: that tweet. Our standing in the world will be dementu
- 8:55Speaker 1: I don't think so. I don't think so. The stock
- 8:57Speaker 1: market actually up today.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Now.
- 8:58Speaker 1: One reason it's up. The other thing, if you're watching
- 9:01Speaker 1: all that left wing media, they'll convince you that the
- 9:04Speaker 1: economy is in so much trouble the economy is to say, well, actually,
- 9:08Speaker 1: the economy is doing just fine. The job numbers. Remember
- 9:11Speaker 1: the market was closed on Friday, so today they're reacting
- 9:14Speaker 1: to the Friday numbers that came out. The job numbers
- 9:17Speaker 1: were spectacular, not just better than expected, but way better
- 9:22Speaker 1: than expected. I mean stunningly better than expected. Corporate profits,
- 9:27Speaker 1: which I know liberals hate that, but that's really what
- 9:29Speaker 1: fuels the market. Corporate profits are doing very well. The
- 9:33Speaker 1: stock market is up as a result, market doing great. Hey, yeah,
- 9:37Speaker 1: we got a lot to get to. We'll get to
- 9:38Speaker 1: Crazy Mayor, Mom, Donnie, we'll get to Artemis, we'll get
- 9:42Speaker 1: to CNN in more sixty minutes. There's some changes coming
- 9:47Speaker 1: and all of that just ahead. Don't forget Buck and Clay.
- 9:50Speaker 1: We'll be here at noon today excellent show. Sean Hannity
- 9:54Speaker 1: back today three to six. It's the most listened to
- 9:57Speaker 1: radio show in America. Jesse Kelly six and Jimmy Fayla
- 10:01Speaker 1: always very funny. Great show every night nine to midnight.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Here on seven ten Woir
