- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Spanish with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 155! Can you believe it? Lucas: I know, it's flown by. Last time we were talking about the bench and sitting. Today, I thought we could stay in the park, but move to a different spot. Luna: Oh, I hope it's the swings again. I loved that episode. Lucas: Not the swings, but close. Let's head to the sandbox. Luna: The sandbox! Perfect for kids. Okay, what's the word for sandbox? Lucas: It's 'el arenero'. Listen: el arenero. Luna: El arenero. That's easy. El arenero. Lucas: Exactly. Now, what do you do in a sandbox? You play in the sand. 'Jugar en la arena'. Jugar en la arena. Luna: Jugar en la arena. So 'arena' is sand. Lucas: That's right. So if you want to say 'I play in the sand', you say 'Juego en la arena'. But let's stick with the infinitive for now: 'jugar en la arena'. Luna: Got it. And what about making a sandcastle? That's a classic. Lucas: A classic indeed. 'Hacer un castillo de arena'. Hacer un castillo de arena. Luna: Hacer un castillo de arena. That's a mouthful. Let me try: hacer un castillo de arena. Lucas: Perfect. Hacer is 'to make', castillo is 'castle', and arena is 'sand'. So literally 'make a castle of sand'. Luna: I love it. So if I'm at the sandbox with a shovel, how do I say 'I have a shovel'? Lucas: Good question. 'Tengo una pala'. Tengo una pala. Luna: Tengo una pala. Pala... that sounds like 'pale' in English, but it's shovel. Lucas: Yeah, it's a cognate. So you can remember it. Tengo una pala. Luna: Tengo una pala. Okay. And to invite someone to play, like 'Let's go play'? Lucas: That's 'Vamos a jugar'. Vamos a jugar. Luna: Vamos a jugar. Simple. Let's practice a little scene. Say I'm at the park with a kid. Lucas: Okay. You point to the sandbox and say: 'Mira, el arenero. Vamos a jugar en la arena.' Luna: Mira, el arenero. Vamos a jugar en la arena. And then maybe the kid says 'Quiero hacer un castillo de arena'. Lucas: Yes! And you can reply: 'Tengo una pala. Podemos hacer un castillo de arena.' Luna: Tengo una pala. Podemos hacer un castillo de arena. That's a full conversation. Lucas: Exactly. Let's run through all the phrases one more time. First: el arenero. Luna: El arenero. Lucas: Jugar en la arena. Luna: Jugar en la arena. Lucas: Hacer un castillo de arena. Luna: Hacer un castillo de arena. Lucas: Tengo una pala. Luna: Tengo una pala. Lucas: Vamos a jugar. Luna: Vamos a jugar. Lucas: Great job. You know, if you're finding these episodes useful and want to keep them ad-free, listener support is what makes that possible. Luna: Yeah, it's a small way to say thanks. If you'd like to chip in, you can go to buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Lucas: No pressure at all. But it really helps us keep making content like this. Now, back to the sandbox — what's your favorite thing to build in the sand? Luna: Oh, definitely a castle. And then I like to dig a moat around it. Lucas: Nice. So you could say 'Quiero hacer un castillo de arena con un foso'. But maybe that's for another episode. Luna: Yes, let's not overwhelm. Let's just practice what we have. So, 'el arenero' — the sandbox. Lucas: Right. Keep practicing these, and next time we'll dive into another corner of the park. See you then! Luna: Adiós!
