- 0:00Speaker 1: Yeah, that.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Chuck Norris was chasing the Tyrannosaurus Rex. The rex was
- 0:06Speaker 2: not chasing the jeep. Murray, Murray, you there, you love sandwiches. Huh,
- 0:11Speaker 2: let's go to eighty.
- 0:13Speaker 1: He was bo wow that Prime Time. Maybe I had
- 0:18Speaker 1: a crush on Betty Rubble.
- 0:19Speaker 2: I honestly, until after the segment ended and we went
- 0:22Speaker 2: to commercial break, had no idea that Jonathan Coachman was black.
- 0:25Speaker 1: He caught them the game last night, although they won
- 0:28Speaker 1: the game. You're listening just to Godsend Company. Don't look now,
- 0:33Speaker 1: but this is becoming a thing. I mean, you and Hark,
- 0:40Speaker 1: You and I are like a man and a woman saying, hey,
- 0:43Speaker 1: let's not make this a regular thing. We'll get together
- 0:47Speaker 1: every now and then all of a sudden, I wake
- 0:49Speaker 1: up Monday morning and I'm still with you. Yeah.
- 0:55Speaker 3: He is pointing a short b at me directly out
- 0:58Speaker 3: of his mouth, pointing it at me an because he
- 1:00Speaker 3: is pleased with his joke. It was weird because we'll
- 1:06Speaker 3: get to Uh, We'll get to Lebron James and Uh
- 1:11Speaker 3: and his decision in just a second. Because we had
- 1:13Speaker 3: you on Miami was one of the teams Hawk of
- 1:16Speaker 3: course host Afternoon drive on wq IM here in Miami
- 1:20Speaker 3: and the flagship radio station for the Heat. Yes, correct, yes,
- 1:25Speaker 3: but we had you on. We were doing our thing,
- 1:28Speaker 3: and then Lebron decided where he was going to go. Now,
- 1:30Speaker 3: you and I talked about it privately in bed together.
- 1:35Speaker 3: The audience has not been able to get your thoughts,
- 1:38Speaker 3: but I want to ask you this because we have
- 1:39Speaker 3: breaking news. Mike Lombardi is on administrative leave at the
- 1:43Speaker 3: University of North Carolina. Taylor is a North Carolina fan.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Taylor was a walk on football player at the University
- 1:50Speaker 1: of North Carolina.
- 1:51Speaker 3: He cares about that program deeply. He loves them. He
- 1:54Speaker 3: loves that school. He loves everything about that school. But Hawk,
- 1:58Speaker 3: what were your thoughts originally when Bill Belichick got the
- 2:01Speaker 3: job at North Carolina?
- 2:03Speaker 1: Like, did you think it was a good hire? Well?
- 2:05Speaker 1: I figured it was probably a good hire. You know,
- 2:08Speaker 1: there were some question marks because you go, hey, you've
- 2:11Speaker 1: seen guys who are great in college football try to
- 2:14Speaker 1: go to the pros and it doesn't work. And you've
- 2:16Speaker 1: seen guys who are great in the pros try to
- 2:18Speaker 1: go to college doesn't work because they really are two
- 2:20Speaker 1: different animals. Although with nil stuff, it's kind of evening
- 2:25Speaker 1: the playing field. It's not as different as it once was.
- 2:30Speaker 1: But yeah, how could you not think it was going
- 2:32Speaker 1: to work. You've got a winning head coach, maybe the
- 2:35Speaker 1: greatest head coach in NFL history. I outvious, of course
- 2:39Speaker 1: with think Don Shula, then Mike Ditka, then maybe Bill Belichick.
- 2:44Speaker 1: But I figure, like, hey, he's going to go if
- 2:48Speaker 1: his game wisdom can rub off on some good recruits,
- 2:53Speaker 1: and you would imagine he could recruit better because he's
- 2:55Speaker 1: going to say, I'm an easy pipeline to the NFL.
- 2:58Speaker 1: I've spent my entire life in the NFL. And then
- 3:02Speaker 1: he brings in Mike Lombardi and you go, hey, they're
- 3:04Speaker 1: going to run this like an NFL program, Like this
- 3:07Speaker 1: is going to be you know, what did you say
- 3:09Speaker 1: before we went on the air the thirty third NFL team, Yeah,
- 3:13Speaker 1: Lombardi said that. Now he's on administrative leave, so yeah,
- 3:16Speaker 1: so yeah, I thought it was going to work. And
- 3:19Speaker 1: then Taylor. You remember the first drive because I said,
- 3:24Speaker 1: I mean when I feel like it might have been
- 3:26Speaker 1: a Thursday night or something, because when would I ever
- 3:29Speaker 1: sit down and watch a primetime UNC football game. But
- 3:32Speaker 1: it was strictly because Bill Belichick was the coach. I'm
- 3:35Speaker 1: not sure what day of the week it was. All
- 3:37Speaker 1: I know is after that first drive that you just mentioned,
- 3:40Speaker 1: I texted Taylor, You're winning the National Championship. I wish
- 3:45Speaker 1: I had a bet on the Natty. And then after
- 3:47Speaker 1: that first drive, I'm like, oh my god, like we
- 3:51Speaker 1: how did NFL teams sleep on Bill Belichick? Like this
- 3:55Speaker 1: guy is going to cut through college football like a
- 3:59Speaker 1: hot nine through butter And I think that was the
- 4:02Speaker 1: only good drive of the season. Yep, you got Michael
- 4:05Speaker 1: Jordan to come to a game, amanz.
- 4:08Speaker 4: So it was a Monday night football game. It was
- 4:10Speaker 4: the standalone game right that week, the Monday night football game.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:15Speaker 4: North Carolina goes down that first drive and they score
- 4:19Speaker 4: a touchdown. The buzz in Chapel Hill before that was palpable,
- 4:23Speaker 4: Like I'm sure you guys felt it all the way
- 4:25Speaker 4: down in South Florida because it felt like Carolina was
- 4:28Speaker 4: finally dedicating the resources to being a football school where
- 4:32Speaker 4: Lombardi the highest paid GM in college football, Belichick a
- 4:35Speaker 4: top ten paid coach in college football. Now you're starting
- 4:39Speaker 4: to see it. They score that touchdown and I am
- 4:44Speaker 4: just double birding every TCU fan in existence, even near me,
- 4:48Speaker 4: because they did have a good presence there in Chapel Hill.
- 4:51Speaker 4: Just because if everybody wants to go to UNC when
- 4:55Speaker 4: UNC is on your schedule, especially early fall, if I
- 4:58Speaker 4: could just paint the picture hawk, I'm jumping up and down.
- 5:01Speaker 4: Algie Crumpler's in the row in front of me, falcons,
- 5:04Speaker 4: legend falcons, and I'm basically wrapped in Algae Crumpler's bosom.
- 5:12Speaker 4: He he just has me. We're celebrating, We're pumping, We're
- 5:15Speaker 4: fist pumping, We're yelling at everybody. National champions, National Champions.
- 5:19Speaker 4: I think I was at the bars by the start
- 5:21Speaker 4: of the fourth quarter because I was like, yeah, this
- 5:23Speaker 4: is you were, this is.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Ordering Mongolian beef. Well, uh, well, the rest of the
- 5:29Speaker 1: games play. You had to really finish that off, though.
- 5:32Speaker 1: You have to go on the air the next day
- 5:33Speaker 1: and blast all the Carolina fans for leaving early learned
- 5:39Speaker 1: from the master. Yes, so what are you hearing of
- 5:42Speaker 1: Lombardi anything here? I mean I did.
- 5:44Speaker 3: I did think that Carolina was gonna have far more success, uh,
- 5:51Speaker 3: you know, with.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Belichick as the head coach. Uh, but they lost to
- 5:54Speaker 1: Wake Forest last year. Like, that's just it's embarrassing. What
- 5:57Speaker 1: are you hearing on Lombardi anything? I know you have
- 5:59Speaker 1: boots on the ground there.
- 6:00Speaker 4: Yeah. So I'm hearing that North Carolina is most likely
- 6:04Speaker 4: going to be under investigation. And I know what everybody's
- 6:07Speaker 4: thinking in this era of college football, it's it's almost
- 6:11Speaker 4: impossible to be under investigation. This is the wild wild
- 6:16Speaker 4: West of college Whatever you want. How did North Carolina
- 6:20Speaker 4: do something where they're under investigation? But North Carolina has
- 6:25Speaker 4: lost me. Bill Belichick has lost me, Lombardi has lost me.
- 6:28Speaker 4: And it really started from the Lombardi higher where it
- 6:31Speaker 4: was like, Okay, Belichick is here, let's let's get the
- 6:34Speaker 4: resources in place. And then Belichick's first order of command
- 6:38Speaker 4: was let me hire one of my best friends, who
- 6:40Speaker 4: also is unemployable by the NFL, to be the highest
- 6:43Speaker 4: paid GM in college football. Right right from there, it
- 6:46Speaker 4: seemed like just a retiree program of guys just collecting
- 6:50Speaker 4: a check. And ever since then, it's just been all downhill.
- 6:53Speaker 4: We North Carolina football cannot get out of its own way?
- 6:56Speaker 1: Are we under the opinion this cannot be corrected? With
- 7:02Speaker 1: Bill Belichick and Mike Lombardi, you can't give them a
- 7:05Speaker 1: one season, you know, Mulligan, to get things to where
- 7:10Speaker 1: they want it to be. You'd think this thing is
- 7:13Speaker 1: dead from the moment it started.
- 7:15Speaker 4: I think it was dead from the moment it started.
- 7:17Speaker 4: I think they needed a hit in the transfer portal
- 7:20Speaker 4: and get a quarterback. They missed in the transfer portal
- 7:23Speaker 4: the first window with Geo Lopez, who's now Wake Forest's quarterback.
- 7:27Speaker 4: They seemingly have missed this portal with getting Billy Edwards Junior,
- 7:30Speaker 4: a guy who's bounced around from Maryland to Wisconsin. If
- 7:35Speaker 4: you don't have a quarterback in this era of college football,
- 7:37Speaker 4: you're basically doomed from the start. And I think that's
- 7:40Speaker 4: it's even hard to evaluate the rest of North Carolina's
- 7:43Speaker 4: roster because of how badly they've missed on the quarterbacks.
- 7:47Speaker 4: For me, the expectations are very low for this North
- 7:49Speaker 4: Carolina team, like it would be a major win if
- 7:51Speaker 4: Belichick could even get them to a bowl game. I
- 7:53Speaker 4: think most likely Carolina is going to be like a
- 7:55Speaker 4: four and eight team and kind of get undressed and
- 7:59Speaker 4: every game and next year we're we're hitting the reset
- 8:03Speaker 4: button on the program and looking for a new coach.
- 8:05Speaker 4: I would just like to remind people, Yes, I was
- 8:09Speaker 4: excited when Belichick got hired by Yes, I was also
- 8:12Speaker 4: the person saying maybe we should hire John summer On
- 8:15Speaker 4: instead from tu Lane. I think he would be a
- 8:17Speaker 4: much better choice than Bill Belichick.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Yeah you were saying, is that the sports whisper? Were
- 8:21Speaker 1: you whispering? It is? Who would have thought the height
- 8:25Speaker 1: of us talking to College Football July twenty seven and
- 8:28Speaker 1: breaking down what we think might happen with the UNC
- 8:31Speaker 1: team this season? Who would have thought the height of
- 8:34Speaker 1: Bill Belichick as the North Carolina head coach?
- 8:36Speaker 3: The height for Taylor as a fan would have been
- 8:38Speaker 3: him jumping around with Algie Crumpler.
- 8:40Speaker 1: I mean, play one. That's all you can ask for,
- 8:43Speaker 1: one great moment during someone's tenure. You guys gave it
- 8:46Speaker 1: to you. Right job, mission accomplished.
- 8:48Speaker 4: I mean, and with this Belichick hiring, there's just been
- 8:51Speaker 4: distraction after distraction where he's blowing off Letterman events to
- 8:54Speaker 4: go to his girlfriend's cheerleading competitions.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Hucks so important events. Yeah, she needs people there.
- 9:04Speaker 3: He's more balanced at this stage of his life. I mean,
- 9:07Speaker 3: what do you want from the guy?
- 9:08Speaker 1: I hate telling people what to do with their lives. People.
- 9:10Speaker 1: There's certain people they like stamp collecting. There's other people
- 9:13Speaker 1: they like Pokemon cards, you know what I mean, Like,
- 9:16Speaker 1: I hate telling people what to do with their life. Man,
- 9:18Speaker 1: I have such a difficult time not asking her, Like, Hey,
- 9:22Speaker 1: at what point are we giving up the cheerleading? But
- 9:26Speaker 1: I'm not doing that. I think everyone should have their
- 9:29Speaker 1: own likes and dislikes. Of course, support her as well.
- 9:32Speaker 4: Yes, so there has been so many distractions in the
- 9:34Speaker 4: North Carolina program. Belichick, if he had a moment of reflection,
- 9:39Speaker 4: he knows it's not going well. Game one this season,
- 9:41Speaker 4: Hawk is in Ireland against TCU. If you're Belichick any
- 9:46Speaker 4: part of your mind, just say, I'm not getting on
- 9:48Speaker 4: this flight. I really don't want to go all the
- 9:49Speaker 4: way to Ireland.
- 9:50Speaker 1: It's a long trip, right, I don't even care. I mean,
- 9:53Speaker 1: I think it's hey, I'm getting on this flight. I'm
- 9:56Speaker 1: probably not flying back on this flight though, So you know,
- 10:01Speaker 1: bring some friends and let's plan a two three week
- 10:05Speaker 1: get away in Ireland when the game's over.
- 10:08Speaker 3: I mean, I gotta tell you, I don't know the
- 10:10Speaker 3: circumstances around this. We'll get to Lebron in a second.
- 10:13Speaker 3: But a paid administrative leave sounds delightful.
- 10:16Speaker 1: You know, oh my god, sign me up. He's getting
- 10:20Speaker 1: paid to not.
- 10:21Speaker 4: Do his job. He was already doing that in the
- 10:23Speaker 4: first place.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Would you if your wife was doing cheerleading competitions? Do
- 10:32Speaker 1: you think you would support her and just be all
- 10:35Speaker 1: in or do you think you might have a talk
- 10:36Speaker 1: with her? And I granted our wives are older than
- 10:39Speaker 1: Bill Belichick's girlfriend, but do you think you might have
- 10:42Speaker 1: a chat with her at some point and say, hey,
- 10:46Speaker 1: what's the timetable here on you giving up this cheerleader thing.
- 10:52Speaker 1: It's a dangerous game. Man. How old is Jordan? How old?
- 10:58Speaker 1: Twenty five? I believe?
- 11:00Speaker 3: Okay, right, I mean she's getting right around the age
- 11:03Speaker 3: where you would have that conversation. I think, no, yeah, right,
- 11:08Speaker 3: But I don't know.
- 11:09Speaker 1: I'm not having it with my wife. I can tell
- 11:10Speaker 1: you that she can. It's a kid. I mean, I
- 11:13Speaker 1: guess it's a kid to being in like a softball
- 11:16Speaker 1: league right in your fifties. Yeah, and your wife's like, hey,
- 11:19Speaker 1: when do you get to give that thing up?
- 11:21Speaker 4: You know?
- 11:23Speaker 3: Right, my wife's asked me that about fantasy sports she has.
- 11:27Speaker 3: She's like, haven't you have probably fantasy sports?
- 11:29Speaker 1: Probably time, right, and I have no rebuttal because she
- 11:33Speaker 1: does it cheerly. Ah, what'd you make a Lebron's decision?
- 11:39Speaker 1: The Philly very surprised. I was very surprised. Now that
- 11:43Speaker 1: you can start to do the post mortem on it,
- 11:46Speaker 1: it makes a little more sense to me. I was
- 11:48Speaker 1: under the impression. Now again, this is probably the media
- 11:51Speaker 1: just creating stuff on our own because there really were
- 11:54Speaker 1: no leaks. We thought money was not an object. It
- 12:00Speaker 1: obviously wasn't. We thought winning and championships were not important, correct,
- 12:07Speaker 1: it obviously was. Yes. We were told family was the
- 12:13Speaker 1: biggest parameter, And in his own statement he said this
- 12:16Speaker 1: was not a decision for family now, So things that
- 12:20Speaker 1: I thought were the most important facets of his decision weren't.
- 12:26Speaker 1: And shame up on us because he never said that.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Like we were just going off you know, inside info
- 12:32Speaker 1: from Windhorst and Chris Haynes and Shams and whatever. I
- 12:37Speaker 1: was certain Miami was going to be the destination, just
- 12:41Speaker 1: because it seemed like it was going to check all
- 12:44Speaker 1: the boxes that we thought were important. We know his
- 12:48Speaker 1: family liked it in Miami. We know that there's plenty
- 12:51Speaker 1: of golf in Miami. We heard golf was very important
- 12:55Speaker 1: and by the way, the East easier road than the
- 12:59Speaker 1: West to actually be competitive. I know, as a Knicks fan,
- 13:03Speaker 1: you're probably well, I don't know about that, but it
- 13:06Speaker 1: is I'd still rather play the Knicks than the Spurs
- 13:09Speaker 1: or okay see or never regardless, I thought the roster
- 13:15Speaker 1: with Bam and Joannie and Andrew Wiggins, and you'd feel
- 13:20Speaker 1: like with Lebron coming, they'd probably get a Bradley Beal
- 13:23Speaker 1: or a Demato Rose in Klay Thompson. I just thought
- 13:27Speaker 1: it was a great roster what I have thought about since,
- 13:31Speaker 1: and I think Rich Paul said it on his podcast,
- 13:33Speaker 1: and this is interesting to me. If Lebron came here,
- 13:38Speaker 1: I'm parsing some of what he said into what I
- 13:41Speaker 1: consider to be important. If Lebron came here, he was
- 13:44Speaker 1: maybe under this thought that I'm never going to be
- 13:48Speaker 1: able to replicate what went on those four years, right,
- 13:52Speaker 1: the Harlem Shake and all the huhah that went along
- 13:56Speaker 1: with it, Like whether it's fun or not fun, it's
- 14:01Speaker 1: going to pale in comparison to the four years with
- 14:05Speaker 1: Wade and Bosh and Rayalen and Shane Battier. And so
- 14:10Speaker 1: if you have something so great in your life. A
- 14:14Speaker 1: memory that is so great oftentimes you don't want to
- 14:18Speaker 1: go back and try to replicate it because it's always
- 14:21Speaker 1: going to pale in comparison. You know, honestly, you probably
- 14:24Speaker 1: know it in radio, but sometimes, like you do something,
- 14:27Speaker 1: you may replay it. People ask me, like, why do
- 14:29Speaker 1: you replace something? And I go, because I'm never gonna
- 14:31Speaker 1: be able to replicate that, right, That's the I mean,
- 14:34Speaker 1: it's kind of the whole concept of the podcast that
- 14:37Speaker 1: we do with Stegots and Hackman, where we look back
- 14:39Speaker 1: at some of the old Levatard Show stuff, but like
- 14:41Speaker 1: certain stuff it's so good in the moment, when you're
- 14:44Speaker 1: removed from it, you go, yeah, I'll never be able
- 14:46Speaker 1: to replicate that, Like that was that was perfect. And
- 14:49Speaker 1: so I never assumed that I was under the assumption that, hey,
- 14:53Speaker 1: Lebron he kind of wants to replicate that feeling of
- 14:57Speaker 1: the four seasons down here because I think it was
- 14:59Speaker 1: the best basketball in his career. I think it was
- 15:02Speaker 1: the best time in his career. And if it was,
- 15:06Speaker 1: he may have said to himself, Yeah, it's gonna pale
- 15:08Speaker 1: in comparison, it's not gonna feel the same. So let's
- 15:11Speaker 1: let's not do that, and and and let's not do
- 15:15Speaker 1: Cleveland again because that was great. And I brought them
- 15:19Speaker 1: a championship and we came back from three to one,
- 15:23Speaker 1: like we're not gonna be able to replicate that. So
- 15:25Speaker 1: now you know what it's all said. By the way, yes,
- 15:29Speaker 1: he was looking for something new, right, which is the
- 15:33Speaker 1: last thing that I thought he was looking for, because
- 15:36Speaker 1: I know as I get older, I'm not looking for
- 15:38Speaker 1: new stuff. Yes, I like the stuff that I'm comfortable with,
- 15:42Speaker 1: but obviously I'm not Lebron James. He was looking for
- 15:46Speaker 1: something new. And if he's looking for some new and
- 15:48Speaker 1: he said in his statement that winning a championship is
- 15:52Speaker 1: really important to him, still, well, then there probably is
- 15:55Speaker 1: no better destination other than if New York wanted him,
- 15:58Speaker 1: which I don't think they did, or if San Antonio
- 16:02Speaker 1: wanted him. There really is no better destination than Philly.
- 16:05Speaker 3: Well, he said he'd go to New York if New
- 16:07Speaker 3: York hadn't won the championship last year, so they did.
- 16:11Speaker 3: It's a great point about Miami because I hadn't thought
- 16:14Speaker 3: about this, the coverage, the four years, the four straight finals,
- 16:22Speaker 3: the buzz, the decision I'm taking my talents to South Beach,
- 16:27Speaker 3: the hatred. That team got to win two titles, to
- 16:31Speaker 3: go to four straight NBA titles, to have one of
- 16:33Speaker 3: the greatest shots in the history of the NBA with
- 16:36Speaker 3: Ray Allen. You're right, there is no way to replicate
- 16:39Speaker 3: what was the greatest four years of Lebron James his
- 16:43Speaker 3: career down here. And so because he set the bar,
- 16:45Speaker 3: they set the bar so high it'd be impossible to eclipse.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Well, in Philadelphia, there is no bar.
- 16:52Speaker 3: R This is the first time for him and what
- 16:53Speaker 3: became abundantly clear, and I think things changed. I think
- 16:56Speaker 3: that Jalen Brown trade changed everything for Lebron in this decision.
- 17:01Speaker 3: Is he saw a clear path where he could win,
- 17:03Speaker 3: not want put two titles. Maybe playing for Philadelphia, that
- 17:07Speaker 3: was the team that gave him the best chance of
- 17:09Speaker 3: catching Jordan. And listen, we're kidding ourselves if we think
- 17:13Speaker 3: that's not the most important thing to Lebron James.
- 17:16Speaker 1: We really I see you shaking your head. Yes, there's
- 17:18Speaker 1: definitely something there, as much as they may have tried
- 17:21Speaker 1: to tamp down that talk. And also, by the way,
- 17:24Speaker 1: there would be something to be said. I don't know
- 17:25Speaker 1: if anyone's done it before. Where you go and you
- 17:28Speaker 1: win four titles in four different cities. Crazy. You never
- 17:33Speaker 1: play in a city that you don't win a title in,
- 17:36Speaker 1: Like that's something that you can put on the mantle
- 17:39Speaker 1: and say, yeah, Jay never did that. Yep. It's interesting
- 17:43Speaker 1: because all the other things that it's not about he said,
- 17:47Speaker 1: it wasn't about his family. I think they're gonna be
- 17:48Speaker 1: living in New York, which makes sense, by the way,
- 17:52Speaker 1: because if they like New York. I saw it's a
- 17:54Speaker 1: forty five minute helicopter ride, yes, which you know he
- 17:57Speaker 1: could take like a petty. I mean, that's no big deal.
- 18:01Speaker 1: So you know, I just think we got wrapped up
- 18:05Speaker 1: in something, and I think Miami fans me included, I
- 18:08Speaker 1: got wrapped up in wanting to relive those four years
- 18:13Speaker 1: because I didn't want to do anything other than enjoy it.
- 18:15Speaker 1: And so I'm sitting there going, yeah, of course he
- 18:19Speaker 1: wants to do this again. I enjoyed it, you know,
- 18:23Speaker 1: all my friends enjoyed it. But he probably sat down
- 18:27Speaker 1: with Rich Paul and his family and said, is there
- 18:29Speaker 1: any way it would feel like that again for us?
- 18:32Speaker 1: And the answer was probably no, which makes sense, And
- 18:35Speaker 1: so it's like, let's go do something somewhere where there's
- 18:39Speaker 1: no ties, no history, and we're starting fresh.
- 18:43Speaker 3: And in terms of buzz and coverage, like he's gonna
- 18:45Speaker 3: get the feeling when he arrives in Philadelphia and they
- 18:48Speaker 3: announced this.
- 18:48Speaker 1: Thing and get going. It's gonna feel like Miami to
- 18:50Speaker 1: him again, because all eyes are on Philly now. So
- 18:52Speaker 1: it's cool.
- 18:53Speaker 4: We also got an update on the YouTube link the
- 18:56Speaker 4: Heat staffer. This is from Ramona Shelburne, the Heat staffer
- 19:00Speaker 4: who published the Lebron James presser video on YouTube, had
- 19:04Speaker 4: vacation scheduled for this week and he was trying to
- 19:06Speaker 4: get ahead of potential work.
- 19:08Speaker 1: Ah, that makes sense, yes, yes, like it. Guys got
- 19:15Speaker 1: to remember not to hit publish really, like that's a
- 19:18Speaker 1: standard the standard rule. Like, Hey, I'm going to shoot
- 19:23Speaker 1: this text over to my ex and let her know
- 19:27Speaker 1: what I'm really thinking of her. But after I type
- 19:30Speaker 1: it out, I'm just gonna let it sit there for
- 19:32Speaker 1: a minute, decide whether I want whoops, I hit send.
- 19:36Speaker 1: You don't want to be that guy. That guy can
- 19:39Speaker 1: enjoy his permanent vacation now, Taylor, this part of it's
- 19:45Speaker 1: gonna be funny if Philadelphia gets off to some sort
- 19:48Speaker 1: of bad start combined with Lebron James living in New
- 19:51Speaker 1: York City. Do you know, and I can't believe he
- 19:54Speaker 1: signed up for this, h but do you know what
- 19:56Speaker 1: the Philadelphia seventy six or fan base is going to
- 20:00Speaker 1: So Lebron James, if God forbid, it's like a fourteen
- 20:04Speaker 1: to twenty start and he's commuting from the place they
- 20:07Speaker 1: hate the most, Manhattan.
- 20:09Speaker 4: I mean, I think it's more likely that seventy six
- 20:12Speaker 4: Ers fan turn on Lebron James than Lebron James wins
- 20:15Speaker 4: back to back titles. Like I don't understand what you
- 20:18Speaker 4: guys are doing saying like, oh, if Lebron wins back
- 20:20Speaker 4: to back titles and he's catching up to Michael Jordan,
- 20:23Speaker 4: what about Lebron James the past five ish years makes
- 20:27Speaker 4: you think that he's winning a title, let alone back
- 20:29Speaker 4: to back.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Look at who he's playing with, though, Like, that's it,
- 20:32Speaker 1: that's the benefit of going to that Sixers team. But
- 20:36Speaker 1: I mean, I chose us to Gods. I really believe
- 20:40Speaker 1: it's the riskiest decision, yes, that he could have made,
- 20:44Speaker 1: because if he comes to Miami and let's say it
- 20:48Speaker 1: does pale in comparison to the four years that he
- 20:51Speaker 1: was here, and they don't win a championship, and they
- 20:53Speaker 1: don't even go to a championship. It's still like, Hey,
- 20:55Speaker 1: that's not why I came here. I came here as
- 20:58Speaker 1: a thank you for the four years that turned me
- 21:00Speaker 1: into a champion, and I wanted to thank the fans.
- 21:03Speaker 1: You go to Cleveland, obviously the results don't even matter.
- 21:07Speaker 1: It's hey, I wanted to finish my career in Cleveland.
- 21:10Speaker 1: You go to Golden State, and it's listen, basketball fans
- 21:15Speaker 1: have clamored to see me and Steph play together. And
- 21:18Speaker 1: we both know that we're at the tail ends of
- 21:20Speaker 1: our careers, and we both know that we're not competitive
- 21:24Speaker 1: for an actual championship the way that the league is
- 21:26Speaker 1: set right now. But we wanted to give basketball fans
- 21:30Speaker 1: an opportunity to enjoy an entire season of what they
- 21:34Speaker 1: saw us do in the Olympics, when everyone was going
- 21:36Speaker 1: crazy when we were on the court together. Like to me,
- 21:39Speaker 1: those were they weren't going to end in titles, probably,
- 21:42Speaker 1: but they were the least risky in Philly. He's got
- 21:47Speaker 1: to come out of there with at least one title. Yes,
- 21:50Speaker 1: If he doesn't, it's going to be looked at with
- 21:53Speaker 1: a side eye, like, hey, you went to chase a title,
- 21:56Speaker 1: you were unable to do it. There'll be the questions
- 21:59Speaker 1: like Philly is relentless with that stuff. You know, my
- 22:02Speaker 1: wife is from Philadelphia. I am very in tune with
- 22:05Speaker 1: what that city is like. That city ain't fun, that
- 22:08Speaker 1: city is rough. Yes, and if you're not delivering, imagine
- 22:12Speaker 1: remember the Heat start eight and nine, he's bumping Eric Spolestra.
- 22:16Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Like it's gonna be all bets are off
- 22:21Speaker 1: with that fan base if it's not smooth sailing from
- 22:25Speaker 1: game one. I mean, he agreed to be a mercenary.
- 22:29Speaker 1: You combined with all that.
- 22:30Speaker 3: With what Hack has said, with the idea that he's
- 22:32Speaker 3: living in New York, it's just not it's not gonna
- 22:36Speaker 3: go well but tailor. In the first seventeen games of
- 22:37Speaker 3: the Heat, when Lebron came down here, it was like
- 22:40Speaker 3: every game was covering, like every day we were covering
- 22:44Speaker 3: Game seven of the NBA Finals, right ck Yeah, it
- 22:47Speaker 3: was crazy.
- 22:48Speaker 4: Could you make the argument that the biggest loser in
- 22:50Speaker 4: all of this is Nick Nurse, the seventy six ers coach,
- 22:53Speaker 4: because yes, in theory, it's great getting Lebron James but
- 22:57Speaker 4: also Nick Nurse has to know if they get off
- 22:59Speaker 4: to a slow start, Lebron James will throw him under
- 23:02Speaker 4: the bus almost immediately.
- 23:03Speaker 1: I don't think so because of his attachment with Clutch Sports.
- 23:06Speaker 1: He's I think that Nick Nurse is nihilated because of
- 23:10Speaker 1: Clutch and Rich Paul. And I'm not feeling bad for
- 23:14Speaker 1: any head coach in the NBA who has Jalen Brown,
- 23:18Speaker 1: Joel Mbid vj Edgecombe whom I missing Lebron and Embiid
- 23:25Speaker 1: and Tyres Maxie Like, I'm not feeling bad for any
- 23:30Speaker 1: NBA head coach who gets to coach an All Star team.
- 23:34Speaker 1: It's an abundance of riches.
- 23:36Speaker 3: I mean, the coach would sign up to get this
- 23:39Speaker 3: starting five and he's fine, Like, he's gonna be fine.
- 23:42Speaker 1: He's won an NBA title.
- 23:44Speaker 3: So do you like if Nick what are you saying, Taylor,
- 23:47Speaker 3: If Nick Nurse does it win a title, he's gonna
- 23:49Speaker 3: be the guy that gets fired. Lebron just gonna fade
- 23:51Speaker 3: into the sunset and everyone will blame himpide.
- 23:53Speaker 4: I would imagine, yeah, But every time Lebron has a shortcoming,
- 23:57Speaker 4: it's it's never portrayed as Lebron's fault. We have to
- 24:01Speaker 4: get this guy out. We have to get this guy out.
- 24:02Speaker 4: This coach was the problem. Mike Brown was the problem.
- 24:05Speaker 4: And you see that, Tylou.
- 24:08Speaker 1: It's everyone. You can go down the list. It was
- 24:11Speaker 1: Eric Spolstra during those first seventeen games. Yes, But to
- 24:15Speaker 1: Hawk's point, in this particular case, Uh, the guy who's
- 24:19Speaker 1: coaching Lebron, James Lebron, is incentivized to keep him in
- 24:22Speaker 1: business as long as possible. He gets a part of
- 24:24Speaker 1: his paycheck. I mean it's true that like when and
- 24:29Speaker 1: when you look at it now and you see, like
- 24:32Speaker 1: I've seen that Nick Nurse is the only coach that
- 24:35Speaker 1: Lebron talked to during this you know, recruiting period. Like
- 24:38Speaker 1: there is obviously a lot of intertwined personalities and business
- 24:44Speaker 1: dealings that brought Lebron to Philly.
- 24:47Speaker 4: While Philadelphia has the title expectations now that Lebron goes there,
- 24:52Speaker 4: Lebron also does have the convenient aspect of a lot
- 24:55Speaker 4: of scapegoats on this team. Where people were telling you
- 24:57Speaker 4: before Jalen Brown is probably the seventh best player on
- 25:01Speaker 4: a title team. You have Joe Embiid who's never made
- 25:03Speaker 4: it to an Eastern Conference finals, I think there's a
- 25:05Speaker 4: there's a chance that if Lebron doesn't win in Philadelphia,
- 25:08Speaker 4: he kind of just washed his hand and goes, sorry,
- 25:10Speaker 4: I couldn't win with Embid.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Nobody else could. Yeah, no, I've won everywhere else that
- 25:14Speaker 1: I've gone. But Embiid can't be on the court for
- 25:17Speaker 1: more than thirty games a season. He's always, you know,
- 25:20Speaker 1: one one twist away from falling down and being out
- 25:24Speaker 1: for another couple of weeks. Jalen Brown, I mean Boston
- 25:28Speaker 1: got rid of him. It tells you a little something
- 25:30Speaker 1: about Jalen Brown, like, yeah, you can go down the list.
- 25:34Speaker 1: I mean, I don't think, but but Lebron's not expected
- 25:37Speaker 1: to be the guy who carries that team to a championship.
- 25:39Speaker 1: I mean one of the benefits, you know, if he
- 25:42Speaker 1: goes to Golden State, he and Steph are it. Yeah,
- 25:48Speaker 1: they're the guys who have to do it, and you
- 25:50Speaker 1: go to Philly, like, he's what fourth option, fourth or fifth,
- 25:56Speaker 1: fifth option, depends on the night. Some nights he'll be
- 25:58Speaker 1: the first, some nights they'll be the fifth. That's a
- 25:59Speaker 1: great spot to be it in terms of the biggest loser,
- 26:02Speaker 1: it's definitely not Nick Nurse it's that loser Brad Stevens.
- 26:05Speaker 1: So they fucked the Heat. They fucked themselves. He totally
- 26:10Speaker 1: fucked the Heat. If he doesn't end up shipping Jalen
- 26:12Speaker 1: Brown to Philly, Lebron does not end up in Philly,
- 26:18Speaker 1: he ends up in Miami. He might end up in
- 26:20Speaker 1: Boston too,
