- 0:19Sean coming up to until fives coming up in No 10 minutes, 15
- 0:24minutes. We'll give you 4 of you an
- 0:26opportunity to win some grub from the chicken coop.
- 0:29That will be all coming up about 20 minutes after.
- 0:31Before we do that, we'll spend a few minutes with Stephen M
- 0:35Sipple from the on three medium huskerillustrated.com.
- 0:40It is a big one in Lincoln this weekend.
- 0:42Houston Christian Houston Christian pays a visit.
- 0:47Trent not. Getting you real excited to no.
- 0:50Sound like no. They snuck by Arkansas Baptist
- 0:54in week 169 to zip. OK, how bad are they?
- 0:59Maybe UMass and Arkansas Baptists should have a get
- 1:02together on the schedule. Well, we'll talk to SIP
- 1:04nonetheless. We'll get the latest on the
- 1:06Huskers coming up here and no, about 5 minutes or thereabouts.
- 1:11Look forward to catching up with SIP each and every week.
- 1:14So listening to Dave and about those Packers and are they the
- 1:20team to beat in the North in your mind?
- 1:22Yeah. I, it's, I think it's pretty
- 1:25hard to poke a lot of holes in what we've seen the questions, a
- 1:29wide receiver position. The one thing when we had this
- 1:32conversation throughout the summer is we just had different
- 1:35viewpoints of Jordan Love and WAS.
- 1:37It for me. I kept going back to the injury
- 1:40in week one in Brazil a year ago, that crappy field.
- 1:42He wasn't right. I thought he was going to be
- 1:45closer certainly last season to the guy that we saw at the end
- 1:47of the year, the year previous than what we saw throughout.
- 1:50And I still believed in the talent.
- 1:52When you'd push back and say what about that wider Sievert
- 1:54group and, and I get it, are they going to get Golden
- 1:56involved? I would think, I mean, you know,
- 1:58there was there. Remember how the bananas the
- 2:01crowd went when they drafted a full?
- 2:02Been over 2 decades since they had a wider siever in the first
- 2:05round. I mean, that was that was one of
- 2:07the highlights from the opening night of the draft was watching
- 2:10Packer fans go crazy when they when they draft.
- 2:13Yeah, the answer's they have to. I mean, he's he's incredibly
- 2:16quick. They can run the football.
- 2:18So did you learn more about the Packers or more about the Lions?
- 2:22Because I look as I, I thought the Lions were still the team to
- 2:27beat in the north. Dan Campbell's still there.
- 2:31They didn't go outside the building to find coordinators,
- 2:33guys that had been there and done that were part of the
- 2:36system. They had so many injuries last
- 2:39year that that I I couldn't quit the Lions for that, for that
- 2:43reason. Now they play the Bears on
- 2:46Sunday afternoon. A must win for both.
- 2:48It's huge for both. I mean, the Bears would be oh,
- 2:50and two in the division already if you fall on that one, as
- 2:53would the Lions. And and what's the number 5 1/2?
- 2:57I want to say something I hate. Fives.
- 2:59I hate fives. Right in the middle it's up to 6
- 3:021/2. Isn't right now one spot?
- 3:04Yeah, so the so the money's coming in on the Lions.
- 3:07Short week maybe. I mean, what just how bad
- 3:10Williams looked after the, you know, the second-half of the
- 3:12football game. Let's see six at DraftKings.
- 3:16Circa has it 5 1/2. There's a 6 1/2 out there at
- 3:19FanDuel. So it's kind of floating around.
- 3:22But yeah, it definitely looks like a plenty of Lions money
- 3:24that is starting to come in on that front.
- 3:27The Ragnar retirement. Which dude was 20?
- 3:319 No, I know. And.
- 3:34Came out of nowhere because they lost Zettler too as well right?
- 3:37You know, when that came up, I was more fixated on the loss of
- 3:40both coordinators and maybe it should have been also a bigger
- 3:45piece, at least for me, because that was not part of my handicap
- 3:48in Detroit this year. It was my concerns about the
- 3:50coordinators, but not that offensive line.
- 3:52I mean, just look back at that box score in week one.
- 3:55They couldn't run it all against Green Bay.
- 3:57I mean when you finish. And they got 2 pretty good
- 3:59running backs. David Montgomery, 11 carries for
- 4:0125 yards, a long A6. What was Gibbs is long. 9 for 19
- 4:07yards. He did have a 14 yarder.
- 4:09That means in his other 8 carries.
- 4:11Bottle them up five yards. How many?
- 4:13How many catches for Aman Ross St.
- 4:15Brown? 4 for 45.
- 4:16That's it. It was a lot of Laporta.
- 4:19Gibbs had 10 catches in the game for 31 yards.
- 4:22Wow, what were Goff's overall numbers?
- 4:25Padet, I mean, he's 31 to 39, so that can oh.
- 4:28You think he had a pretty good game?
- 4:29Did he hit 200? 225 and how many of those came
- 4:32late with the Tesla catch in that end zone?
- 4:37How he got that foot down, I'll have no idea, but he did.
- 4:40Still, how many of those were in garbage time when the game was
- 4:42hopelessly done? 39 attempts, only 225 yards.
- 4:47That's concerning. There's a lot there and I think
- 4:50it's something that we need to go back to that offensive line
- 4:52that is a big, big class. Now had to move over from guard
- 4:55to take the center spot. Zeitler's gone obviously you
- 5:00mentioned Ragnos kind of out of nowhere to retire.
- 5:03They still got penny Sewell, who's as good as there is or one
- 5:05of the better players in the league.
- 5:07I'm I I, I mean, obviously I'm dead wrong on how the north's
- 5:10going to play out and I I don't think that there's any coming
- 5:12back from that. Packers look really good, but so
- 5:15does Washington Trent. I think this game is an absolute
- 5:18coin flip tonight. Do you I?
- 5:19Really do so you'd be grabbing the three.
- 5:21I think. I think I probably would if I
- 5:22was forced to bet it. I didn't see a play of
- 5:25Washington and versus the Giants.
- 5:27I didn't see one play. I was going a lot of places.
- 5:29That wasn't one of my stops. And I'm not a red Zoner channel
- 5:34but Debo looked good. Rejuvenated did he?
- 5:40He had a touchdown run on an end around using him as that Swiss
- 5:44army knife that they do and the running game look good.
- 5:47You know they have that new kid with hyphenated name.
- 5:51Yeah, it's not. It's not just Eckler, it's
- 5:52another somebody else. There, Right?
- 5:54Yeah. Eckler's still there.
- 5:55Jacory Croskey Merritt. OK.
- 5:57He was getting some buzz in the fantasy community, was he?
- 6:00Yes. One of those two, Yep, was
- 6:02McLaren. Rusty, I didn't see much of him.
- 6:05In fact, I don't remember when I was watching seeing him even
- 6:09target that I. Can I?
- 6:10I saw Zach Ertz. Yep, had a touchdown.
- 6:14He's good. I like that the that defence is
- 6:17up front. They're good, at least they've
- 6:19they were last year. Well, they're veteran they're
- 6:22and it worked last year. The concern is though aging
- 6:26veteran team. Well, Von Miller's got to be 40.
- 6:28Well, I know he's not quite there yet, but he's been around
- 6:30a long time. Bobby Wagner's What in his same?
- 6:34Mid. 30s. How old's Von Miller?
- 6:36Von Miller's 36. 36 Bobby Wagner is 35.
- 6:40Both of them, right? Lot of experience between those
- 6:43two cats. Super Bowl rings between those 2
- 6:46cats. Marshawn Lattimore, he's pushing
- 6:4830 now. It just over the course of the
- 6:50year and that was another reason I was a little bit more down on
- 6:53Washington. But this will be a fun game
- 6:55tonight, I think. It will be too.
- 6:57I'm with you and and again, 3 1/2 Amazon bar Prime's got it.
- 7:03It's a great it's a great lid lifter for Thursday Night
- 7:05Football. Packers and Washington again, if
- 7:09you can't be in front of your TV if you're driving around central
- 7:13Iowa here tonight as it is on Des Moines sports station 106.3
- 7:16KXNO. I think it's probably as the
- 7:19number one radio package that's available out there.
- 7:23Westwood ones, game broadcast, having the rights to those, you
- 7:28know, Thursday Night Football, Sunday night, Monday night.
- 7:31But then it's the playoffs, right?
- 7:32It's wild card divisional. Look, everybody's going to watch
- 7:34their TV if they can. I understand that some people
- 7:37don't have that ability. So we're working, you know, some
- 7:40are driving around, driving kids, picking up kids, whatever.
- 7:43It's just good to have it. So we will air that game tonight
- 7:48immediately following Cyclone Insider that airs tonight at at
- 7:546:00. All right, we will do the
- 7:56chicken coop giveaway coming up here, 3 locations for the
- 7:59chicken coop. We'll give you your cue to call
- 8:02at that time. They're the locations West Des
- 8:05Moines, 60th and Ashworth. They're in Urbandale, 12725
- 8:09Meredith and in Ankeny, just South of the D Mac campus.
- 8:13So this weekend in college football, we haven't talked a
- 8:16lot about some of the national games headliner, Notre Dame,
- 8:18Texas A and MI Think we touched on that one just a little bit.
- 8:22What else intrigues you this weekend though?
- 8:24Is there anything else? LSU.
- 8:26Florida, I'm into that one. I want to see that game, 'cause
- 8:29I think LSU is a pretty damn good football team.
- 8:32Yes, I think they are. Obviously the Notre Dame game is
- 8:35massive because they can't. They can't lose back-to-back
- 8:38games. I don't think.
- 8:40I don't think that they can. Do you have any intrigue with
- 8:43the USF Miami game? Not really.
- 8:46You don't think it's going to be a game?
- 8:48No, I'm not saying that that's that's the game on CW.
- 8:51Yep. 3:30 Central kickoff. The night game obviously got to
- 8:56watch you Iowa UMass, you know, maybe the game that I'm looking
- 9:01more forward to most. If I could only pick one and
- 9:04it's it's it's a tier, but below the, you know, the the five
- 9:08stars. Yes, I think I know where you're
- 9:10going, where Arkansas will miss. No, that's that's not it.
- 9:13Normally I would be. It's Minnesota Cal.
- 9:16I like this freshman quarterback for Cal.
- 9:19Don't ask me to say his name. JK.
- 9:22What's his last name? Start with SJK something.
- 9:26He's a freshman from Hawaii, can really Chuck it around and I
- 9:29think Minnesota's pretty good. Saga Pilote.
- 9:31Saga Pulalote or something like. That Duran Kiwi saga pulote.
- 9:35Cave. The W is is pronounced as AV.
- 9:40Cave kave, Charan kave saga, Pulotelli.
- 9:45That's it. Boom, well done.
- 9:48Just took two shots. Sangapolotelli.
- 9:51I think he's pretty good player. So yeah, that that one's on that
- 9:54one's on my list is that'll be the game that I'm starting to
- 9:58nod off in my chair when we get to that one at some point,
- 10:02'cause that's a 930 kick. ESPN has that one.
- 10:07All right, let's get a a quick call in here, then we'll we'll
- 10:10open up the phone lines. Let's get Jim.
- 10:13He's found a college game. Who did we miss?
- 10:15Jim, who do you want to watch? Georgia, Tennessee.
- 10:19Oh, that's good. Just.
- 10:19Took Tennessee. I just took Tennessee money
- 10:21line. It's 3 1/2 right now.
- 10:23So why do you like Tennessee? At Tennessee, I'm not sold on
- 10:27Georgia's quarterback. No one nor mine.
- 10:29Offense. Yeah.
- 10:30Are you sold on Tennessee's quarterback?
- 10:33No, but being at home. Yeah.
- 10:36I think that's going to be the difference.
- 10:37So and I called in early so someone else can win those
- 10:40chicken coop tickets. I've won them too many times.
- 10:42That a? Boy, You're pretty good at this.
- 10:45So who's George? George is without their two
- 10:48starting cornerbacks, correct? Is that why the number
- 10:51plummeted? Oh yeah.
- 10:51I think so. At least one for sure.
- 10:53And that game's 230 ABC. 230 ABC.
- 10:57Yep, Yep. Gotcha.
- 10:58All right, buddy. Thank you, Jim.
- 10:59Enjoy the game. You bet.
- 11:00Good luck to you. More you bet, the more you win.
- 11:03All right, let's get Sip for a couple of minutes in here.
- 11:05Sip, I missed you early. We only got a couple of minutes
- 11:07left, but after all, it's Houston Baptist.
- 11:10Is that or Houston Christian? Who the hell is the Nebraska
- 11:12playing this week? They used to be they used to be
- 11:17Houston Baptist. It was until 2021.
- 11:20Okay then they then they changed the Houston Christian all.
- 11:23Right. So it's kind of both, right?
- 11:26Yeah, I I can't wait for these these games to get oversip.
- 11:30I really can't. Let's let's bring on the big 10,
- 11:32right. I know that I I you glean
- 11:36something from it, obviously in teams, workout kinks, etcetera,
- 11:39etcetera. But going out to cover a game
- 11:42like this, you kind of know what how it's going to end already,
- 11:45right? Or do you?
- 11:47Well, yeah, you do. I mean, excuse me.
- 11:52Gosh, I would tell you this, I do have a little bit of insight
- 11:57or more insight than I normally would about Houston Christian
- 12:00because I was there for Nebraska, actually had coaches
- 12:04in the satellite camp last summer at Houston Christian.
- 12:10So I spent 2 full days at Houston Christian and I would
- 12:15tell listeners this, if if you're there, if you're standing
- 12:21in that, what I would, I'll call it a stadium, but it's just, you
- 12:24know, it's a field with bleachers.
- 12:26I mean, and you're, you're on that campus that you really you
- 12:31fully understand how stark the difference is between Iowa, the
- 12:38big money, Big 10 and then this this program that's coming in.
- 12:43It's, and I guess the, and I've said that I'm over here this
- 12:48week when you're there and you're standing there and you're
- 12:52in the, you're, you're on their field and you're standing by a
- 12:55fence and 15 feet away as ACVS Pharmacy.
- 12:59You just, you just realized this game shouldn't happen and it
- 13:03just, it really shouldn't. It did.
- 13:06And you know what? I don't mind if the AD doesn't
- 13:07like the last day. It is what it is.
- 13:09I don't think the game should happen, but it's going to
- 13:11happen. Nebraska will win by a big
- 13:13number, and maybe we'll learn stuff and maybe we won't.
- 13:17Sippy, my favorite or my most intriguing thing this week has
- 13:21really nothing to do with this game.
- 13:23It's looking forward to the Michigan game and Biff Pogy is
- 13:26going to be mating the sidelines.
- 13:28A guy that is a piece of work at the very least.
- 13:30If you saw him at Charlotte, remember his son being recruited
- 13:33to That's the big dude. He's going to be the acting head
- 13:37coach with Sharon Moore. Now, they made it so he wouldn't
- 13:42have to miss the Oklahoma game. Of course, his alma mater, I
- 13:45guess you understand that. But from the Nebraska
- 13:47perspective, can you take this as a little bit of, I don't
- 13:50know, a slap in the face, a motivation?
- 13:53Hey, they think they need their coach for Oklahoma, but they
- 13:56don't need it for US against the the Huskers.
- 13:59Yeah, I do think there's that. That could be some, there could
- 14:02be some level of motivation there.
- 14:06I've had the big I I would just say this, it's it's significant.
- 14:12I mean, take Kurt Ferenz off the sideline for a game and in fact,
- 14:16not even have him available for the week of a game.
- 14:18I know what people are probably going to say, you know,
- 14:22snarkily, I know there's some struggle there, but I mean,
- 14:26that's huge. He's Iowa.
- 14:27He's that program. You take him off the silence.
- 14:30There's a lot different feel. And it's I mean, I sit by a guy
- 14:35every week, Bill Bush, who's been in those situations.
- 14:38He says it's, it's a, it's a major factor when the head coach
- 14:42isn't there. Everything's a little different.
- 14:44So that what I'm telling you is it does work, in my opinion, in
- 14:48Nebraska's faith. And you know, they'll need some
- 14:51stuff like that. Sip, we will make sure that we
- 14:55have a full 10 or 12 minutes for that game next week.
- 14:57It's going to be a fascinating 1230 in the afternoon.
- 15:01All right, buddy. Thanks, Sip.
- 15:02We appreciate it. We'll grab you next week.
- 15:04All right. Thanks for having me.

- 18:37Chiefs Sunday Night Football Total points closest without
- 18:40going over Ryan. 40. 5:45 Thank you, bud.
- 18:45Appreciate it. Thank you.
- 18:47Good to talk to you. Everybody took UMass.
- 18:50Everybody took UMass last week. We had our first of the football
- 18:53season, a consensus pick a week ago as everybody jumped aboard
- 18:58with the Michigan Wolverines. This trend.
- 19:02Is it's, it's, it's not that it's not unbeaten.
- 19:06It's north of 70%. I did the math last football
- 19:08season and at the time going back I think it was 2 years.
- 19:11I look back upon consensus picks were under 30% hit rate ATS.
- 19:18This is a try. If you're a trends player, that
- 19:20means you're laying it with the Hawk.
- 19:22Guy listening the elastic band off the egg off the wallet and
- 19:27firing with both fists. Can you feel confident with
- 19:30that? 35 1/2.
- 19:33I know UMass is awful, but Albany was awful.
- 19:36Yes, no, I think, look, I think Ference will run the football in
- 19:42the fourth quarter knowing what lies ahead.
- 19:45But don't you want to get Hank Brown a little action?
- 19:47I would love to see a trend. I'd love to see him.
- 19:49We get more than a little action and we may be headed in that
- 19:54direction, who knows? We'll see next Friday night.
- 19:58Man, oh man, get the conference play on the road at Rutgers.
- 20:03Looking forward to that one. And the Big 10 is on as they'll
- 20:05come home and play Indiana the following Saturday.
- 20:08All right, we're going to talk to Dalton Wasserman here.
- 20:10Momentarily covers the NFL. profootballfocus.com,
- 20:14profootballfocus.com or is where you can find Dalton and all of
- 20:19his terrific colleagues over there, profootballfocus.com.
- 20:22For Dalton, we'll take a look at some of the bigger games of the
- 20:25week with him. We'll get.
- 20:26To the Eagles and the Chiefs, but I want to start, of course,
- 20:30with Thursday Night Football and Dalton is with us.
- 20:32Dalton Trenton, Ken, as always, thank you for finding time for
- 20:36us here. We certainly appreciate it
- 20:38statewide in the state of Iowa. How are you, Dalton?
- 20:41First of all, good to talk to you.
- 20:43Fantastic. We got NFL and college football
- 20:46both rolling full speed. It's it's a busy season
- 20:48obviously, but it's a whole lot of fun.
- 20:50No, it really isn't. Starts tonight with I think a
- 20:53just a terrific football game. Dalton, you could sell me on the
- 20:55Packers. You could sell me on the
- 20:56Commanders. I would I would listen to both.
- 20:59I think this game is a coin flip.
- 21:01I think you could sell me on both teams because I'm with you.
- 21:04It's going to be a fantastic football game.
- 21:05You've obviously got Jane Daniels and a jacked up offense
- 21:08now with Laramie Tunsil and Debo Samuel and they're coming even
- 21:11off a great defensive game. And then he got, I mean, just
- 21:14how good did the Packers look last week with Micah Parsons in
- 21:17the fold and Jordan Love? I was looking for a little bit
- 21:19of a bounce back for him coming off of last season that was
- 21:21inconsistent and he showed Step 1 of it last week.
- 21:24I think it's a fantastic Thursday night game we have
- 21:26tonight. And when you look at this game,
- 21:29I mean, when you look forward, if we believe that both Green
- 21:31Bay and Washington are going to be contenders this year, I mean,
- 21:34the tiebreaker situation that very well could apply when we
- 21:36get late in the season, that could be absolutely huge for
- 21:39this one. I want to go a little bit deeper
- 21:41on the Commanders because I thought this was going to be a
- 21:44step back year. All the breaks that they got a
- 21:47season to go, it was going to start to bounce the other way
- 21:49maybe for Washington. Impressive performance.
- 21:52They ran the football well against the Giants defense that
- 21:54I really like. What do you look at Daniels in
- 21:57year #2 do you believe that there's even another level that
- 22:00he can go to this season? Yeah, I mean, it's, and then the
- 22:04the next level you're talking about, and it's so rare to see
- 22:07it so early in a guy's career is really that level of being in
- 22:09the MVP conversation with with the Josh Allen's and Joe Burrows
- 22:13and then Patrick Holmes and Lamar's and guys like that.
- 22:15I mean, he's right behind those guys right now.
- 22:18He could put together a season like that with the tools they
- 22:20have on offense, with the ability he has to process
- 22:23defenses with his legs and the way he can run the football and
- 22:26really change the game that way or with his arm.
- 22:28He's got everything you could ever ask for.
- 22:30And I think the way we need to start talking about him is just
- 22:32any given week when Jaden Daniels is on the field, that
- 22:35team has a shot to win. It doesn't matter who the
- 22:37opponent is or the location or whatever.
- 22:39You're never going to see a game where he doesn't go down
- 22:41swinging. I think it's one of those
- 22:42situations like Burrow, like Alan and those guys where, you
- 22:45know what, this guy could win any football game on any given
- 22:48day. Yeah, he's he certainly looks as
- 22:50though he's headed in that direction to start his career.
- 22:52Well, let's get to the the big one on Sunday afternoon, 325
- 22:56hour time in Kansas City, a GEHA field.
- 22:59I'm told that's how you pronounce it, an Arrowhead
- 23:01Stadium Super Bowl rematch. Eagles will have you would
- 23:05expect Jaylen Carter for a full game.
- 23:08Chiefs coming off a loss over in Brazil.
- 23:11This has a classic written all over it.
- 23:12I think. I hope it lives up to it.
- 23:14How do you see it, Dalton? I think the Chiefs defense needs
- 23:18to play a lot better than it did last week if they're going to
- 23:21try to win this game because the Chiefs are not going to win a
- 23:23high scoring game right now. You're talking about a team with
- 23:25Xavier Worthy possibly out this week.
- 23:27Travis Kelce's obviously slowed down.
- 23:29They don't have Rasheed Rice until the 7th game of the
- 23:32season. There's just not much
- 23:33explosiveness. This is death by 1000 paper cuts
- 23:36in this offense. And then here and there, Mahomes
- 23:38can do, you know, you can pull one of his miracle plays.
- 23:40But they are not an explosive team.
- 23:42They need to not get into the high 20s and 30s.
- 23:44They need Steve Spagnolo's defense to step up more so than
- 23:47it did last week against the Chargers.
- 23:49More intriguing games, an important one in the NFC North.
- 23:52Two teams O and one already in the division.
- 23:55Detroit, Chicago. Some good things early for
- 23:57Chicago, a lot of bad late in that fourth quarter.
- 24:00Detroit, well, they did something late in the fourth
- 24:02quarter. But when they're hopelessly out
- 24:04of it against the Packers, do you think the Bears can push
- 24:07them here? And, and where's your concern
- 24:09level with the team that ran away a year ago with the NFC?
- 24:13Yeah, the Bears can absolutely push them.
- 24:14I think on the whole, that's one of the hardest games to read all
- 24:18weekend. I think it could go any
- 24:20direction. The Lions offensively did not
- 24:22look good last week. The Bears look good for a bit
- 24:24and then slowed down late in the game.
- 24:26Obviously blew the 17 to 6 lead. To me, that game is about which
- 24:30team can run the football. The Lions have concerns on their
- 24:33offensive line and obviously there's been a lot talked about
- 24:35without Ben Johnson, John Morton as their new offensive
- 24:37coordinator. But the Lions need get they need
- 24:39to get back to their physical brand of football on the
- 24:42offensive line. And then the Bears, look, they
- 24:44don't have great running backs. The offensive line, especially
- 24:46in the inside, is new. I I think the team that comes
- 24:48out and runs the football better in that game will win and takes
- 24:51the pressure off Jared Goff and Caleb Williams.
- 24:53Whoever can do that the best, I think comes out on top.
- 24:56Dalton, Full disclosure, I'm a Broncos fan.
- 24:58I watched the Broncos last week take on the Titans.
- 25:01I came away more impressed with Cam Ward than bone Knicks.
- 25:04And then I'm a Knicks guy. But I was really impressed with
- 25:07Cam Ward. Well, how did you guys kind of
- 25:09rate his game at Pro Football Focus?
- 25:11They host the Rams this week. I think they're a live dog.
- 25:15Cam Ward's first start. How did you guys are Pro
- 25:18Football Focus see it? So Cam, there, there was some
- 25:21good throws in there. I'd say overall, when you look
- 25:23at our grading, it comes out to some average grades.
- 25:26And I think he was just under so much pressure.
- 25:27He was under pressure 53% of the time in in that game.
- 25:31So Cam, look, the word for him always for me has been fearless.
- 25:35He is willing to throw in the tight windows.
- 25:36He's willing to stand in the face of pressure.
- 25:38But that team around him needs to be better.
- 25:40And that offensive line especially, and the one reason
- 25:43maybe they're not as live and underdog is that if their own
- 25:46line doesn't play better, look, the Broncos D line dominate in
- 25:49them. Yeah, they're adverse and those
- 25:51guys coming to town from the Rams, and that's an absolute
- 25:53group of monsters in the pass rush.
- 25:55So if they can protect him better, then you're on to
- 25:57something. But that it starts up front with
- 25:59that offensive line. They were not good last week.
- 26:01Take it a step further, Ken was talking about your guys's
- 26:04numbers over at PFF and give us a guy or two that maybe you'd be
- 26:08surprised by how they graded out when you were watching the game.
- 26:11And then when you go through and take a look at the L22, give us
- 26:14their name or two this week that surprised you and their
- 26:17performance in week #1. All right, I'll give you one.
- 26:20Our highest graded quarterback for the week actually was
- 26:23Matthew Stafford. And that might sound funny.
- 26:25He didn't put up gaudy passing totals and they only won the
- 26:27game 14 to 9. I'll tell you what, I'm we were
- 26:30too worried about this back injury or whatever was going on
- 26:33there. He made, I believe it was 5 big
- 26:35time throws, which are the highest graded throws on our on
- 26:37our scale that we put out. He was just incredible in that
- 26:41game. And the fact that that game was
- 26:42so close was really, really more about the mistakes on some other
- 26:46guys on the offense. That game could have been a lot,
- 26:48a wider score with the way Stafford Efford was throwing the
- 26:50ball. And I'll be honest with you, I
- 26:51believe the 6th or 7th highest graded quarterback was Justin
- 26:54Fields. Man, with The Jets, I mean,
- 26:56look, they came out, they ran the football well and he looks
- 26:58really good and comfortable in that offense.
- 27:00I'm curious to see what they can carry that momentum into week
- 27:03two against Buffalo. Your thoughts on JJ McCarthy's
- 27:05performance on Monday night and then carry it forward to hosting
- 27:09the Falcons on Sunday Night Football.
- 27:11McCarthy, Did his fourth quarter show you enough?
- 27:15I mean, it showed you enough that he can get there.
- 27:18Sure. I mean, the consistency has to
- 27:19get there. He only dropped back to throw
- 27:21the ball 25 times. I think there was only 20
- 27:23attempts on the night. So it's kind of low volume.
- 27:26And look at the kid making his first start.
- 27:28And Kevin O'Connell did a fantastic job of guiding him
- 27:31through adversity. You know, our numbers are going
- 27:33to say exactly what you think about that football game.
- 27:35He was terrible in the 1st 3/4 and he was really good in the
- 27:38fourth quarter. And the fact that he gutted it
- 27:40out and found a way to win, that's a massive positive.
- 27:43So consistency is going to be a factor in something you're
- 27:45looking for from McCarthy. But the fact that he battled
- 27:48through that, that adversity to find a way to win that game, I,
- 27:50I think Kevin O'Connell just got to be so proud of that part of
- 27:53it. Dalton As you know, it doesn't
- 27:55matter where you are in the country, there's going to be
- 27:57Steelers fans all over the place, and there's a lot of them
- 27:59here, even in the upper Midwest. The Steelers Aaron Rodgers, 4
- 28:03touchdowns, 22 of 30 passing didn't look exactly nimble back
- 28:08there, but he was chucking it around and making some plays
- 28:11against The Jets team that at minimum he's got some dudes out
- 28:14there defensively. Your take away from that
- 28:16performance and if healthy, if we can see a good Aaron Rodgers
- 28:20through the course of an 18 game schedule.
- 28:22Yeah, this has actually been a big point of contention this
- 28:25week with our grading because in our PFF grades, he didn't grade
- 28:28quite as high as you might think coming off a stat line like
- 28:30that. But you know, he he was
- 28:32efficient. I think what you saw was a
- 28:35different philosophy than Russell Wilson.
- 28:37Russell Wilson who was lying out, step back there and throw
- 28:39the ball deep downfield. Aaron Rodgers, what he's looking
- 28:42for is to just move the chains, complete the easier throws,
- 28:45recognize the busts in coverage sometimes that The Jets were
- 28:48having. There was not good communication
- 28:50in The Jets secondary on a lot of plays and he took it.
- 28:52He's a quarterback at this age that what he's going to do is
- 28:55take advantage of the defenses mistakes.
- 28:57So he certainly deserves credit. He played relatively well.
- 29:00He made a couple of mistakes that I think there was 2 dropped
- 29:03interceptions in that game that really to turn things in The
- 29:06Jets favor. But overall, I think you saw the
- 29:08philosophy and the reason that they went from Russell Wilson to
- 29:11Aaron Rodgers. I think he's going to need to be
- 29:13a little bit better against better teams, but it was a good
- 29:16start, at least for the passing game for the Steelers.
- 29:19I follow Dalton on Twitter at PFF under score.
- 29:23Dalton. Dalton, you do a ton of previews
- 29:25of college football games from what you've seen as we
- 29:28transitioned to college. For our last couple of minutes
- 29:30with you. Dalton, give me Who are your
- 29:33team's best two or three teams in college football from what
- 29:37you've seen so far? Well, how do you have them
- 29:39right? Say one through 5, one through
- 29:413, whatever you want. I mean, I have no issue with
- 29:45Ohio State being number one and what they did in Texas and the
- 29:48way that they looked on both sides of the ball and they
- 29:50continued that last week in an easier game.
- 29:52I think as Julian Fan continues to develop, that team's going to
- 29:55be really dangerous. LSU in the way that their
- 29:57defense is playing, they've been fantastic.
- 29:59If they can keep up that defensive improvement, because
- 30:01that's been the problem the last couple years, has been their
- 30:03inability to stop opposing offenses that are especially
- 30:06good throwing the ball. LSU is really good.
- 30:08Penn State's obviously really good, but they haven't played a
- 30:10big game yet. But it's very open at the top
- 30:12right now, I think. I think you have those three who
- 30:14have proven something on the field in big games so far, or at
- 30:17least especially LSU and Ohio State.
- 30:19But there's a lot of huge games coming in the next couple weeks
- 30:22that are going to shake things out even more.
- 30:23Speaking of huge games the SEC gets their conference play
- 30:26really started this week with a bunch of them.
- 30:28And because I think the slate is so good, this one's a little bit
- 30:31under the radar. Arkansas going to Ole Miss
- 30:34Taylor has been absolutely outstanding in the early going.
- 30:38Competition is going to ramp up in a big time way.
- 30:40Going to the Grove, I was a little bit surprised by this
- 30:43number. I thought it would be and more
- 30:45in that 1010 1/2 range. It's right around a touchdown.
- 30:48What do you expect to see with Ole Miss in Arkansas?
- 30:51I think you're going to get a wild football game.
- 30:53I think even now it's sitting at 7, seven and a half and I
- 30:56believe it's going to be close to that.
- 30:57I think that game's going down to the wire in Arkansas is a
- 30:59very good chance to win. You're looking at, I think the
- 31:02odds are wider in Ole Miss favor.
- 31:04One, they're at home. And two, they really slammed
- 31:06Arkansas last year, but they lost all those guys on that
- 31:09offense that put up 63 points. I haven't been particularly
- 31:12impressed yet with the way that Ole misses looked.
- 31:14I think Austin Simmons has had a real transition to being the
- 31:17starter and he's really got, you know, Lane Kippens trying to
- 31:20guide him through some tough times and some big mistakes.
- 31:22But I think Arkansas, look, Taylon Green, like you
- 31:24mentioned, is really dangerous. He's a really good quarterback
- 31:27under Bobby Petrino there as the OC.
- 31:29And then if Arkansas secondary can just keep them in the game
- 31:33and if they're better than they were last year because they gave
- 31:35up 63 points to Ole Miss last year and their secondary was
- 31:38just a disaster, if that's a better unit and they got a lot
- 31:40of transfers in there and they keep themselves in it, I think
- 31:43Arkansas can absolutely go down there and win that game.
- 31:45What a great follow during football season.
- 31:47College or pro Dalton Wasserman at PFF.
- 31:50Under score Dalton. Dalton, you do great work over
- 31:53there. Ton of videos up there.
- 31:54College football NFL rankings released or gradings released.
- 31:58Keep up the good work Dalton. We appreciate what you do for us
- 32:01and we'll talk to you down the road.
- 32:02Thank you, Dalton. Absolutely appreciate you guys
- 32:05have me on as always. Yep, good to talk to you, Dalton
- 32:07Wasserman. It really is a good follow on on
- 32:10Twitter if you're into football, if you're different angles,
- 32:12different voices. So here's an anomaly that's
- 32:15coming up from the betting world when it comes to the Broncos and
- 32:18the Colts line. This line is 2 1/2 at FanDuel.
- 32:22Circa just went to pick. What pick?
- 32:26Now that's got to be a whopper of a bat.
- 32:27It has to be huge. I mean, that's one and circa.
- 32:30Takes huge bets. So your son Kale gets the bet,
- 32:32and he's got to call Benson. He's not quite at work yet, 20
- 32:35minutes away, but yeah. But if he is, yes.
- 32:37That's what where Benson needs to get involved.
- 32:39For sure. If you're moving to that number.
- 32:43What were they this morning? They couldn't have been there
- 32:48then, were they? I am looking they.
- 32:50Were at Well, they were one yesterday, they were two on the
- 32:549th. Do you have an hourly split of
- 32:57the split by the hours? Zeal.
- 32:59No, just the last time that it moved was from or.
- 33:02The last number posted that it changed was yesterday at about
- 33:053:27 in the afternoon. Went from went from 2:00, then
- 33:08down to 1. Then this morning it opens up
- 33:11and it's a pickle. I'm telling the Colts, the Colts
- 33:15got a big shot to win this football game.
- 33:17Danny Dimes fan over there. Well, I'm now you talk about the
- 33:21Broncos defense like there's 85 Bears.
- 33:23Well, they're pretty good. I'm not saying that the 80.
- 33:25Five bears and Danny Dimes is going to carve them up, huh?
- 33:28Well, Greenlaw's not playing OK, but they got a lot of dudes,
- 33:32including the the the defending defensive player of the year in
- 33:37Pat Sir Tan Hufanga is absolutely legit.
- 33:41Zach Allen is a beast. Their defensive line is great.
- 33:44They got a bunch of guys. They're good.
- 33:46They're really good, really good.
- 33:49But Danny Dimes is going to be the one you're nervous.
- 33:51What I watched Bonex play Bonex was terrible.
- 33:57Terrible. So we should maybe erase that
- 33:59tape from the summer when you were singing the virtues of Bo
- 34:02Nicks. Put a bit in the top five.
- 34:06No, no, I never went that far. I just maybe if I said I said
- 34:10maybe, I hope he becomes, he's not there yet.
- 34:12My argument with Bo Nicks was always with Sean Payton.
- 34:15I didn't know how much more upside was there, how much
- 34:17better he could get than what we've seen.
- 34:21I might be right on this one. You could be.
- 34:23I hate to say it, but especially this one.
- 34:26I mind when you're right on another things, but this one's
- 34:28gonna Lewis the knife. Lucas has something intriguing
- 34:31right now. Call in the trade you can get
- 34:34Caleb Williams. Lucas.
- 34:35For Bonex, before the show, we were talking.
- 34:37About Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 34:38Would you take it? No, no.
- 34:43Sean Payton with Caleb Williams. Ben Johnson with Bonex I don't
- 34:51know I'm I'm anxious to see where this quarterback class how
- 34:56it all plays out right because there were so many of.
- 34:59Them Knicks was bad. McCarthy was bad for three
- 35:02weeks, Drake May was not very good on Sunday.
- 35:05You go through. Panics.
- 35:07I didn't see anything. And had opportunities and got
- 35:10them into field goal range and. We'll see the 8th versus the
- 35:1310th pick on Sunday Night Football. 123 Williams, Daniels
- 35:20May 8th Pennex 10 McCarthy 12 Knicks.
- 35:24We'll see how it ranks 10 years from now.
- 35:27We will take a time out. Trent's plays of the day.
- 35:30They're coming up next. Miller and Condon talking sports
- 35:33with you. Thanks for being with us on Des
- 35:34Moines Sports station One O 6.3 KX and over statewide on the
- 35:38Iowa State Iowa Sports Radio Network.
- 35:41I'm Miller and Condon, final couple of minutes here on a
- 35:43Thursday. Turn things over and off the
- 35:46bench. Shawn and Lucas take you until
- 35:485:00. Cyclone Insider TONIGHT airs
- 35:51from six until 7 and that's followed up by Commanders and
- 35:56the Packers. That coverage courtesy of
- 35:58Westwood One getting underway at 7:00.
- 36:02I'm not sure what Messieurs Repay and Heinz have cooked up
- 36:05on Cyclone Insider tonight, but it airs at 6:00.
- 36:09All right, Trent Connor, first of all, before we get into your
- 36:11place of the day, have you decided where you're going to be
- 36:14broadcasting high school football tomorrow?
- 36:16Yes, going to be Valley Stadium is the Tigers coming off a loss
- 36:20to newly minted #1 Waukee Northwest last week.
- 36:24They tried to bounce back as they welcome in Lucas Strains
- 36:26alma mater. The Urbandale Jayhawks will be
- 36:29making the way in. Good stuff, good game, you
- 36:31think? Hope so.
- 36:32Yeah. How?
- 36:33Was the schedule in week 3. Little bit different.
- 36:36I had some plans, maybe even to travel a little bit more, but
- 36:38decided to stay here local. Couple local teams that'll be
- 36:41involved in that. One all right, good stuff.
- 36:43Let's your plays of the day. There's football.
- 36:46Is the West over or is tonight the last night?
- 36:48I don't know. OK, Neither do I Didn't look.
- 36:50Yeah, I haven't looked at it since #22 got hurt, Yeah.
- 36:56What are you betting on tonight? Baseball.
- 36:58I got 3 baseball plays and one in both in the NFL and in
- 37:01college. Going to start with Christian
- 37:03Javier and the Astros against your Blue Jays here.
- 37:07Too big of a price. I'm going to grab the plus 140
- 37:09in a even matchup I believe. Yeah, I do too.
- 37:12Plus 140, like that one with pick number one pick #2 well,
- 37:16Mackenzie Gore's coming off the IL.
- 37:18You know what that means? Bet against.
- 37:19Them bet against them and we will do that against Weathers,
- 37:22who's been pretty good for Miami -117 in that spot.
- 37:26And then tonight we're going to grab a big price plus 153 with
- 37:28Sardiano against Seattle. I'm betting against the streak
- 37:32as the Mariners are hot, but we're going the other way.
- 37:35Angels plus 153. You talked me into it.
- 37:38You know, I'm a great listener. Yeah, I I don't hear that at
- 37:42home. I don't hear that at work with
- 37:43you. But today I'm a great listener.
- 37:45Our guy does hear that at home. I'm.
- 37:48Grabbing the commanders. You've talked me into it today.
- 37:51Give me the 3 1/2 there and I'm going to lay it with the
- 37:53Wolfpack tonight. NC State -7 Against a Wake
- 37:56Forest team that is struggling, defensive.
