Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Big 98.7.
- 0:02Speaker 2: We present to you Haunted Hearts, a Hallmark Halloween movie.
- 0:07Speaker 3: Absolutely in no way associated with Hallmark.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Jeanette, I know you have a big city job waiting,
- 0:16Speaker 2: but this town needs you.
- 0:18Speaker 3: I need you.
- 0:19Speaker 2: You helped turn our little Halloween festival into something magical.
- 0:24Speaker 2: And now you're just going to disappear like a ghost.
- 0:27Speaker 2: I can't imagine this town without you. And I don't
- 0:30Speaker 2: want to imagine my life without you. So please, don't leave.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Be my boo. You really are something, Harrison. But you
- 0:42Speaker 2: can stop worrying. I already turned down the job. I'm
- 0:46Speaker 2: staying to run my dad's year-round Halloween store.
- 0:51Speaker 3: You're staying here with me?
- 0:55Speaker 2: Looks like this small town has cast a spell on me.
- 0:58Speaker 4: Well, thank goodness.
- 1:00Speaker 5: Now you two can finally stop flirting and help me
- 1:02Speaker 5: take down these decorations.
- 1:04Speaker 3: We've got it covered, Mrs.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Halverson.
- 1:07Speaker 2: So, Jeanette, dinner tomorrow night? Only if you promise not
- 1:13Speaker 2: to ghost me. I won't ghost you. I want to
- 1:22Speaker 2: be your boo.
- 1:23Speaker 4: And they lived happily ever after. Now, somebody give me
- 1:26Speaker 4: a drink.
- 1:27Speaker 1: All right. Round of applause for the two of you.
- 1:30Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 1:31Speaker 6: A star-studded cast. You can find that in no theater
- 1:35Speaker 6: near you at any point. But a wonderful job.
- 1:38Speaker 3: Thank you. That was Haunted Heart.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Celebrating life's little victories. Victory. Every morning we practice gratitude
- 1:48Speaker 1: on Big 98.7. If I could, I would keep this
- 1:52Speaker 1: feeling in a plastic jar. Bust it out whenever someone's
- 1:55Speaker 1: acting hard. I just really needed a win, you know.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Share your little victories with us at 701-280-1987. All right, Megan,
- 2:03Speaker 1: do you have a little victory to get our Monday started?
- 2:06Speaker 1: You're our leadoff hitter. You're going to set the tone,
- 2:08Speaker 1: all right? Boy, no pressure. Got it. Okay, good.
- 2:12Speaker 5: Actually, over the weekend, it was fun because I got
- 2:14Speaker 5: to see Mama and Papa Z. Hadn't seen them for
- 2:16Speaker 5: a little bit. And there's nothing better than when your
- 2:18Speaker 5: parents come to town and they're like, I'm going to
- 2:20Speaker 5: take you out for lunch.
- 2:21Speaker 4: Yes. That's the way.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Yes.
- 2:23Speaker 6: That's the best. You're never too old to go out
- 2:26Speaker 6: for lunch with your mom and dad.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Right? Never, ever.
- 2:29Speaker 5: And we went to the Golden Phoenix, and that was
- 2:31Speaker 5: the first time going there, and it was.
- 2:34Speaker 4: A bomb buffet. It was so good.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Really?
- 2:37Speaker 4: Oh, my gosh, yes.
- 2:38Speaker 6: The Golden Phoenix. I got to remember this, because I
- 2:39Speaker 6: heard you talking about, or someone, was it you?
- 2:41Speaker 4: Probably.
- 2:42Speaker 6: Maybe talking about going there. I got to check this
- 2:44Speaker 6: place out. I love a buffet. I always try to
- 2:46Speaker 6: eat more than what my bill's worth.
- 2:48Speaker 5: Absolutely. I mean, they've got fresh. I don't know if
- 2:51Speaker 5: you like sushi, but they got fresh sushi. They got
- 2:53Speaker 5: the hibachi. They got the pho. They got everything.
- 2:56Speaker 4: And I'm like, maybe you don't like the Chinese food.
- 2:58Speaker 4: They got American food, too. Like, it's all just wonderful.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Oh, OK. The Phoenix buffet is where it's at.
- 3:04Speaker 4: It's so good. OK, so that was my little victory.
- 3:06Speaker 1: I love that. That's a beautiful little victory.
- 3:08Speaker 4: Angie, what's yours?
- 3:10Speaker 2: I went to a wedding on Friday night, and it
- 3:13Speaker 2: was lovely because I just love love, man.
- 3:16Speaker 3: And the couple was super into each other. Everything was gorgeous.
- 3:20Speaker 2: It was at the Jasper Hotel, and the tablescape was pretty.
- 3:24Speaker 3: The views were gorgeous.
- 3:25Speaker 2: It was just such a nice time celebrating a couple
- 3:28Speaker 2: that clearly wants to be together. Because you know when
- 3:31Speaker 2: some people are like, oh, I'm getting married, and you're like,
- 3:34Speaker 2: you shouldn't. This couple is not that. They clearly love
- 3:41Speaker 2: each other, and it was just lovely to see love in.
- 3:45Speaker 3: Action, I guess.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Well, good for you.
- 3:47Speaker 6: It's kind of interesting you say that because Crystal texted
- 3:50Speaker 6: and said her weekend was great. She went to a wedding,
- 3:53Speaker 6: but this was yesterday, and she said it was awesome.
- 3:55Speaker 6: So a lot of love this weekend. Yes.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Who doesn't love love?
- 4:00Speaker 3: I love a good wedding. Haters, but we're not a
- 4:03Speaker 3: hater here at 98.7. What about you, Gabe? What's your
- 4:05Speaker 3: little victory?
- 4:05Speaker 1: My little victory? I'm not kidding.
- 4:07Speaker 6: This might have been the greatest weekend in all of
- 4:10Speaker 6: Minnesota sports.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Maybe history. Maybe history.
- 4:14Speaker 6: My Golden Gopher hockey team, they sweep UND Thursday and Friday.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Sorry, Megan.
- 4:20Speaker 1: It is what it is.
- 4:21Speaker 4: I'm not that broken up about it.
- 4:23Speaker 6: And then the Gopher football team beats Iowa. And if
- 4:27Speaker 6: you are a Golden Gopher football fan, let me tell you,
- 4:29Speaker 6: they just don't beat Iowa. It's been done like twice
- 4:32Speaker 6: in 30 years.
- 4:33Speaker 5: Oh, wow.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Okay, so this is major.
- 4:35Speaker 6: Yeah, and then the Minnesota Wild went back-to-back this weekend.
- 4:38Speaker 6: And then the Vikes won yesterday. I went 6-0 since Thursday.
- 4:43Speaker 3: I feel like you can die happy.
- 4:45Speaker 4: And if you like the Timberwolves, they also won. They
- 4:48Speaker 4: also won!
- 4:49Speaker 1: Yes! The Timberwolves are going to be very good. What
- 4:53Speaker 1: a great time to be a Minnesota sports fan for
- 4:56Speaker 1: at least five days. How awesome is that? Embrace it
- 5:00Speaker 1: while you can.
- 5:01Speaker 7: I know.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Because you never know when it's going to come crashing down.
- 5:07Speaker 6: Last Friday at 4.37 a.m., I had a buddy text me,
- 5:13Speaker 6: which did not bother me one bit because I had
- 5:15Speaker 6: already been up for about an hour. So we had
- 5:18Speaker 6: a full-blown convo before even 5 a.m., and I remember
- 5:23Speaker 6: talking to him going, you know what's crazy is I
- 5:26Speaker 6: know you're up, you know I'm up, so this is
- 5:28Speaker 6: perfectly socially acceptable.
- 5:30Speaker 1: But there's, like, no other person on Earth.
- 5:33Speaker 6: Other than, I suppose, you two that I could text
- 5:35Speaker 6: at four something in the morning.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Which made me kind of wonder, is there a time, is.
- 5:40Speaker 6: There like a socially acceptable time on a Monday, Tuesday,
- 5:44Speaker 6: Wednesday morning that you wait?
- 5:46Speaker 1: To text someone, 701-280-1987.
- 5:48Speaker 6: Do you have a time rule at all? Let us
- 5:52Speaker 6: know this morning. Do you wait until 7, 8?
- 5:56Speaker 5: So mine is it varies because probably all of you,
- 6:00Speaker 5: like me, have had those friends that, oh, I forget
- 6:02Speaker 5: that you wake up at an.
- 6:03Speaker 4: Odd godly hour in the morning. And the rule is
- 6:08Speaker 4: that if you.
- 6:09Speaker 5: Text me way late, even if I don't see it
- 6:11Speaker 5: because I put on Do Not Disturb now.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Good for you.
- 6:14Speaker 5: But if you text me, let's say, 11 p.m., then
- 6:18Speaker 5: I am going to for sure text you the moment
- 6:22Speaker 5: I see it.
- 6:23Speaker 1: I love this.
- 6:24Speaker 5: But if you wait, like if it was a little
- 6:26Speaker 5: bit earlier, I know it's like eight, nine, even before 10.
- 6:30Speaker 4: Like, OK, then I will wait until like seven. In
- 6:34Speaker 4: the morning.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Seven is like your not petty time.
- 6:36Speaker 4: Yeah. That's the weekday weekend. That moved to like nine.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Okay. Oh, okay. I don't have a... Time is a
- 6:45Speaker 3: social construct.
- 6:46Speaker 1: You just fire them off?
- 6:48Speaker 3: Yeah, whenever. I don't care.
- 6:49Speaker 2: The horrible thing, though, too, is most of the people
- 6:52Speaker 2: that I text are from my hometown, which is Vegas,
- 6:56Speaker 2: and they are two hours earlier than us.
- 7:00Speaker 3: And I wake up.
- 7:01Speaker 2: At 3 a.m., So sometimes it works out because if
- 7:04Speaker 2: I'm texting at 3 a.m., it's only 1 a.m.
- 7:06Speaker 3: There and it's Vegas.
- 7:07Speaker 2: So they're probably still up versus getting up. But yeah,
- 7:13Speaker 2: I just it doesn't matter. The time difference screws everything up.
- 7:16Speaker 2: So it's like I'm texting whenever.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Just accept it.
- 7:18Speaker 1: I'm texting whenever.
- 7:19Speaker 2: I'll text you as soon as I see it, even
- 7:21Speaker 2: if that's at an inconvenient time. Because like Megan said,
- 7:24Speaker 2: she has it on Do Not Disturb. My phone is
- 7:27Speaker 2: perpetually on mute. At the very least, silent.
- 7:30Speaker 7: Yes.
- 7:30Speaker 3: So if I text you late and it's like, oh,
- 7:34Speaker 3: you woke me up. How old are you? What year
- 7:36Speaker 3: is this? Why is your sound on on your phone?
- 7:40Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 7:41Speaker 3: We stopped doing that in like 2010. Exactly.
- 7:44Speaker 4: I've never heard my phone ring.
- 7:45Speaker 6: What?
- 7:45Speaker 4: It has a ringtone?
- 7:46Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 7:47Speaker 6: Well, and it's funny for people who get up early
- 7:49Speaker 6: in the morning. Like if you're someone who gets up
- 7:51Speaker 6: early and you got big 98.7 on for you, you
- 7:54Speaker 6: might be going to bed a little bit earlier. So
- 7:56Speaker 6: there's also a late night time that would affect us
- 7:59Speaker 6: more than obviously an early time. If someone texts me
- 8:02Speaker 6: at four or whatever, like that doesn't matter to me
- 8:03Speaker 6: at all. But if you hit me with a 136
- 8:06Speaker 6: reel on Facebook Messenger, mom. I will be responding to
- 8:11Speaker 6: you at 4 a.m.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 8:13Speaker 6: My mom and dad have learned how to send reels,
- 8:16Speaker 6: and they're retired, so bedtime doesn't exist.
- 8:19Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:20Speaker 6: And my mother, who I love to death more than
- 8:22Speaker 6: anything on this earth, loves firing off parenting reels and, like,
- 8:27Speaker 6: things you should know about babies.
- 8:29Speaker 1: At 1.36 a.m.
- 8:32Speaker 6: Mom, I've been asleep for five hours.
- 8:35Speaker 4: Why are you sending me this?
- 8:37Speaker 1: Could you hold off until, I don't know, five?
- 8:40Speaker 3: No, that is parental privilege. They get to send whenever.
- 8:42Speaker 4: And also, it's when she found it.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Yeah, you're right.
- 8:45Speaker 4: Because she's got to send it off right then or.
- 8:46Speaker 1: She'll lose it. That's true. You're right.
- 8:48Speaker 3: Yeah, we got to give some grace to your mom.
- 8:51Speaker 5: Put on do not disturb on your phone already.
- 8:53Speaker 4: Like, come on.
- 8:54Speaker 6: I'm one of the weirdos who always has my sound
- 8:55Speaker 6: like turned on. You're a nightmare.
- 9:00Speaker 1: 701-280-1987. Do you have a morning time? Socially acceptable.
- 9:05Speaker 6: You're fine firing off some texts and you're not going
- 9:07Speaker 6: to feel guilty. And then and or at night, when
- 9:10Speaker 6: do you kind of cut them off? Are you like,
- 9:11Speaker 6: all right, I'll wait till tomorrow.
- 9:13Speaker 2: I will say for the big 98.7 morning show, text
- 9:16Speaker 2: us or call us whenever.
- 9:17Speaker 1: We don't care.
- 9:19Speaker 6: That's right. In your friend group, there are very likely
- 9:25Speaker 6: multiple characters, multiple personality types.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Now it is Halloweek.
- 9:29Speaker 6: And here in the big 98.7 studio, we have three
- 9:33Speaker 6: very different, I'd say very distinct Halloweek personality types.
- 9:38Speaker 2: So I'm fully committed to costumes every single day of
- 9:44Speaker 2: the week because it's Halloweek.
- 9:46Speaker 3: That's me.
- 9:47Speaker 1: You do great.
- 9:48Speaker 5: I enjoy a good vibe where I'm like, I got
- 9:51Speaker 5: the boo sweatshirt on today and I've got the ear,
- 9:55Speaker 5: the Halloween earrings. I've got some orange socks like that's
- 9:58Speaker 5: my vibe for today.
- 9:59Speaker 1: You're not really.
- 10:00Speaker 6: Like character dressed up, but you're celebrating the spirit.
- 10:03Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Yeah. And I am a sexy Vikings fan today.
- 10:07Speaker 3: Oh, my God.
- 10:09Speaker 1: And just to be clear, I.
- 10:11Speaker 6: Did ask my wife earlier this morning, hey, if I
- 10:15Speaker 6: put on my Vikings jersey, can I go as a
- 10:17Speaker 6: sexy Vikings fan today? And she said, yes, you're really sexy, babe. Also,
- 10:23Speaker 6: I need you to do this when you get home.
- 10:26Speaker 6: It has to do with putting something in a crock pot,
- 10:28Speaker 6: so that's got me panicked.
- 10:30Speaker 1: But the point still stands. I'm a sexy Vikes fan today.
- 10:34Speaker 2: No, but genuinely, you're not dressing.
- 10:37Speaker 3: Up every day.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Couldn't care less.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Okay, so which one are you this week? Are you
- 10:43Speaker 2: fully committed to daily costumes? Are you just in the vibe?
- 10:47Speaker 3: That's right.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Or you couldn't care less and you're just... reveling in
- 10:51Speaker 2: the fact that the Vikes are 6-0 magically.
- 10:53Speaker 4: Hey, there's nothing wrong with that.
- 10:55Speaker 5: But I think he's reveling in thinking everything he puts
- 10:58Speaker 5: on makes him sexy.
- 11:00Speaker 6: Whatever I wear this week, that is my Halloween costume
- 11:03Speaker 6: with sexy in front of it.
- 11:05Speaker 3: I hate everything about you, Gabe.
- 11:09Speaker 6: 701. I can't even with you.
- 11:12Speaker 1: 701-280-1987. Choose your character.
- 11:15Speaker 6: Halloweek Angie, Vibes Megan, or Sexy Gabe.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Oh, my God. Come on. Big 98.7. This is Am
- 11:25Speaker 1: I the Problem? It's me. Hi. I'm the problem.
- 11:30Speaker 5: It's me.
- 11:31Speaker 1: We'll hear one side of the story and with your help.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Am I the problem?
- 11:35Speaker 8: Decide if it's right or if maybe you're the problem.
- 11:39Speaker 1: I'm hardly the problem. On Big 98.7.
- 11:41Speaker 3: Don't get distracted by puppy TV.
- 11:46Speaker 2: We've got the TV on, and there's puppies.
- 11:49Speaker 3: All over it.
- 11:50Speaker 1: And we have lost Megan for the past two minutes.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Megan's so cute.
- 11:54Speaker 6: I'm sorry.
- 11:54Speaker 3: I'm paying attention.
- 11:55Speaker 4: I'm paying attention.
- 11:56Speaker 3: It's Am I the Problem? We've got to help Marla today.
- 11:59Speaker 3: I'm here.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Hi, Big 98.7 Morning Show team and everyone who is listening.
- 12:05Speaker 2: My name is Marla, and I realize that Christmas will
- 12:08Speaker 2: be here before we know it, and I'm hoping your
- 12:11Speaker 2: listeners will be able to help me with the.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Pickle I'm in.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Through the years, my family has grown to five kids,
- 12:18Speaker 2: nine grandkids, and nine great-grandkids.
- 12:20Speaker 1: That's beautiful, actually.
- 12:22Speaker 3: I love that.
- 12:23Speaker 2: My husband and I are retired, and with our income
- 12:26Speaker 2: now being reduced, we talked about reducing.
- 12:29Speaker 3: Our gift list but aren't sure who to cut out.
- 12:32Speaker 2: We thought of giving small gifts but didn't like the
- 12:35Speaker 2: idea of giving them something they won't want or need.
- 12:38Speaker 2: I've even suggested drawing names for a secret Santa exchange,
- 12:42Speaker 2: but no one jumped on board. I'm curious to hear
- 12:45Speaker 2: how your listeners with large families handle gift giving during
- 12:49Speaker 2: the holidays. Should we cut down on gift amounts, cut
- 12:52Speaker 2: back the lists, or even cut out all gifts? We're
- 12:56Speaker 2: really looking for a solution.
- 13:00Speaker 3: 701-280-1987.
- 13:00Speaker 2: What advice do you have for Marla today as she
- 13:03Speaker 2: prepares for Christmas and trying to gift for.
- 13:06Speaker 3: A huge family?
- 13:08Speaker 2: I'll tell you right now, don't give anybody anything. Don't
- 13:12Speaker 2: give anyone anything. You've done enough, okay? You helped create
- 13:18Speaker 2: this huge family. And I think they should be showering
- 13:22Speaker 2: you with gifts, especially if you're on a reduced income now.
- 13:26Speaker 2: And they should be grateful that you're still in their
- 13:28Speaker 2: lives at all. Don't give them anything, especially because no
- 13:31Speaker 2: one jumped on board the Secret Santa Exchange.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Yeah, you tried to have a solution.
- 13:34Speaker 4: I'm really sad about that, actually.
- 13:36Speaker 3: So you get nothing. You lose. Good day, sir. That's
- 13:39Speaker 3: where my head is at.
- 13:40Speaker 4: Merry Christmas. Bah humbug.
- 13:42Speaker 1: We're done.
- 13:45Speaker 3: What do you think? Do you have... something maybe less
- 13:47Speaker 3: mean than whatever.
- 13:48Speaker 1: I just said.
- 13:51Speaker 3: 701-280-1987.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Let us know.
- 13:52Speaker 5: I'm very curious on the age of, well, you've got
- 13:57Speaker 5: older grandkids now.
- 13:58Speaker 4: So you got, cause you got great grandkids.
- 14:01Speaker 5: So if you're going to narrow it down, I feel
- 14:02Speaker 5: like it would be then the great grandkids. Who are
- 14:05Speaker 5: the young ones? Like are the, The ones who like
- 14:09Speaker 5: love Christmas the most. That's the ones that you focus on,
- 14:11Speaker 5: at least.
- 14:11Speaker 4: In my family.
- 14:12Speaker 5: Because once we reach a certain age, then be like,
- 14:14Speaker 5: you all go into one big thing and you draw
- 14:16Speaker 5: a name.
- 14:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:17Speaker 5: And you exchange gifts that way. You only have to
- 14:19Speaker 5: purchase for one person. But if there's kids, but once
- 14:22Speaker 5: they're like teenage age.
- 14:26Speaker 3: Not for the teenagers.
- 14:29Speaker 4: I was like, you know what? I never liked anything
- 14:31Speaker 4: I got.
- 14:32Speaker 7: Like, OK. Oh, yeah.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Unless it was like a gift card or something. Yeah,
- 14:36Speaker 3: that's true.
- 14:37Speaker 2: And any gift card worth anything probably sounds it sounds
- 14:40Speaker 2: like it's out of Marla's budget.
- 14:42Speaker 3: So maybe just like the little, little kid?
- 14:45Speaker 4: That's what I'm thinking.
- 14:46Speaker 6: No, here's what you do. You get the five adult
- 14:48Speaker 6: something and the rest of the young kids get nothing.
- 14:50Speaker 6: Go to the thrift store, buy a bunch of spoons
- 14:53Speaker 6: that they can play with.
- 14:54Speaker 1: What? Kids don't need gifts. Have you ever seen a
- 14:57Speaker 1: kid on Halloween?
- 14:58Speaker 6: They play with the, or on Christmas, they play with
- 14:59Speaker 6: the box more than the actual present.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, actually, maybe that's the move then.
- 15:04Speaker 6: Just go to the thrift store and buy some random
- 15:07Speaker 6: things that you know they'll play with and cost you nothing.
- 15:10Speaker 6: Just get the kids stuff. Them grandkids, you didn't ask
- 15:12Speaker 6: them to be in this world. Your kids, you did.
- 15:15Speaker 6: But them grandkids, you didn't. That's what I'd say.
- 15:19Speaker 4: I'm all about a good thrifting.
- 15:20Speaker 6: The reason I feel this way is there's a specific reason.
- 15:23Speaker 6: My parents have their first ever granddaughter ever. And I
- 15:27Speaker 6: know I'm getting zero for Halloween.
- 15:29Speaker 2: So I'm trying for Christmas and Halloween and every other.
- 15:33Speaker 6: I'm trying to manifest my own gifts this year.
- 15:36Speaker 3: Oh, okay. That's fair.
- 15:38Speaker 2: What advice do you have for Marla today as she
- 15:40Speaker 2: preps for the holidays? Should she just cut out giving
- 15:44Speaker 2: gifts altogether to her massive family, or is there a compromise?
- 15:51Speaker 1: Big 98.7.
- 15:55Speaker 2: Marla Roden asking for some help on how she's going
- 15:59Speaker 2: to get through Christmas this year in terms of gift giving.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Because she's retired. She and her husband are retired. She's
- 16:06Speaker 2: got five kids, nine grandkids, and nine great-grandkids.
- 16:11Speaker 3: And she's like, I can't afford all that. That's a lot.
- 16:13Speaker 1: That's a lot of gifts, yeah.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Yeah, so she wants some tips on how she can
- 16:17Speaker 2: gift-give this holiday season and it, like, work out and
- 16:21Speaker 2: not upset anybody.
- 16:22Speaker 4: Everybody's getting socks.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Oh, that's actually a dope gift.
- 16:27Speaker 6: Or one sock, and then on their birthday, they get
- 16:30Speaker 6: the matching one.
- 16:31Speaker 7: Jesus.
- 16:32Speaker 1: You got to really want them socks.
- 16:34Speaker 3: Wow.
- 16:36Speaker 4: What if the one was like the birthday was right before?
- 16:39Speaker 4: Like now you got to wait a whole year to
- 16:41Speaker 4: get the sock?
- 16:41Speaker 6: Or they all get the same sock. Just buy a
- 16:43Speaker 6: pack of 40. No one gets a unique sock. This
- 16:46Speaker 6: is why we.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Turn to you for advice on Am I the Problem?
- 16:51Speaker 3: Because all we got here is give them a bundle
- 16:54Speaker 3: of socks. We did have this up.
- 16:57Speaker 2: We have this up on the Big 98.7 Facebook page.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Jacqueline came in with a really great idea. Cut back
- 17:04Speaker 2: on gifts for the adult kids for sure. As an
- 17:06Speaker 2: adult and parent, I want the focus and magic of Christmas.
- 17:10Speaker 2: to be on my children, not myself.
- 17:12Speaker 3: Could never be me.
- 17:13Speaker 2: That still leaves you 18 people to potentially buy for.
- 17:17Speaker 2: I would maybe look at getting family gifts. For example,
- 17:21Speaker 2: get grandkids that are siblings a gift to.
- 17:23Speaker 3: Do as a family.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Like a movie night basket, game boards, etc. Something to
- 17:27Speaker 2: create more memories. This way you're buying the family of
- 17:31Speaker 2: grandkids slash great grandkids something to do together versus individual toys.
- 17:36Speaker 3: I mean, Jacqueline hit the nail on the head.
- 17:38Speaker 6: Fantastic.
- 17:38Speaker 3: That's an amazing suggestion.
- 17:41Speaker 6: Now, Crystal kind of was in line with you here, Angie.
- 17:43Speaker 6: She said, I was going to say the same thing.
- 17:45Speaker 6: I mean, if they can't afford it, you could just
- 17:48Speaker 6: do everyone gets a birthday gift. There's no point in
- 17:50Speaker 6: going any broker. So she's kind of with you have
- 17:52Speaker 6: just cut out all the gifts completely.
- 17:54Speaker 3: Yeah, just cut out all the gifts.
- 17:55Speaker 2: I think like one year in my family, I was
- 17:59Speaker 2: a broke broad. And I was like, everybody getting a
- 18:02Speaker 2: thoughtful handwritten card.
- 18:04Speaker 4: Okay.
- 18:06Speaker 3: And everyone agreed.
- 18:07Speaker 2: Like, yeah, let's all just do handwritten cards. And then
- 18:09Speaker 2: everybody else forgot except me. So I'm the only one who...
- 18:13Speaker 2: completed the assignment. And in the end, I looked like
- 18:15Speaker 2: a hero.
- 18:15Speaker 1: You were the Christmas hero.
- 18:16Speaker 3: I was the Christmas hero.
- 18:17Speaker 2: But yeah, like if you can't afford it, don't go
- 18:20Speaker 2: into debt just because you want to get gifts for people.
- 18:23Speaker 2: A thoughtful handwritten note goes a long way, especially from
- 18:27Speaker 2: a great grandparent.
- 18:28Speaker 5: I love all of those things. And Victoria, she texts in.
- 18:32Speaker 5: Cut out gifts altogether. I'm a family of 22. I'm
- 18:35Speaker 5: not expecting my parents to gift everyone. The rest of
- 18:37Speaker 5: the family draws names.
- 18:38Speaker 1: That's the best way to do it.
- 18:39Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 18:40Speaker 3: Drawing names is smart.
- 18:41Speaker 2: I'm mad that Marla's family didn't want to draw names
- 18:44Speaker 2: for Secret Santa.
- 18:45Speaker 1: I have another strategy for you. Here's what you do.
- 18:47Speaker 1: Here's what you do, okay?
- 18:49Speaker 6: You go buy like a $ 5 stock or a $ 5 bond.
- 18:53Speaker 6: And I say $ 5 in quotes because then down the
- 18:57Speaker 6: road you can say, oh, this will turn into you'll
- 18:59Speaker 6: be a millionaire. And then you just don't do it
- 19:01Speaker 6: at all, and you tell everyone it just didn't work out.
- 19:04Speaker 5: Jeez, you're terrible.
- 19:05Speaker 1: It's like, oh, I had to pay my electric bill instead.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Again, this is why we ask you to help out
- 19:11Speaker 2: when we do Am I the Problem?
- 19:19Speaker 8: Starting off the day with something good. This is Gabe's
- 19:22Speaker 8: Good News on Big 98.7.
- 19:26Speaker 6: And this is some good news from Fargo Davies Jr.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Luca Raut.
- 19:30Speaker 6: He just broke the North Dakota State cross-country course record,
- 19:35Speaker 6: winning the Class A boys title in 15 minutes, 13.6 seconds. Now,
- 19:42Speaker 6: if you don't know, that's roughly five minutes a mile,
- 19:45Speaker 6: in case you.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Wanted to feel.
- 19:47Speaker 6: bad about your own jog on the treadmill later today.
- 19:50Speaker 3: 15 minutes is my entire mile. Like, that's the game.
- 19:54Speaker 4: I'm like, wait, what?
- 19:56Speaker 6: Yeah, he also swept the distance races at the state
- 19:59Speaker 6: track meet back in May. So this dude's basically, like,
- 20:02Speaker 6: undefeated in running.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Take a listen. That was a... I was really happy
- 20:07Speaker 1: with that time.
- 20:07Speaker 7: I think it was just like when I go against
- 20:10Speaker 7: really good competition, I kind of go into the mindset
- 20:12Speaker 7: that like I'm here to win and that.
- 20:15Speaker 1: I won't let anybody beat me.
- 20:16Speaker 7: So I think big races like this, I can just
- 20:19Speaker 7: let it all out on the court.
- 20:20Speaker 6: Shanley senior Ethan Erickson, he took second in his final
- 20:24Speaker 6: statement as well, and he ran his best time ever
- 20:28Speaker 6: on the course. Davies did finish second as a team,
- 20:30Speaker 6: and Luca says they're coming back 10 times better for
- 20:34Speaker 6: next year.
- 20:35Speaker 4: My thought was always like, hey, at least I finished.
- 20:38Speaker 3: Yeah, right.
- 20:40Speaker 6: The line I need to cross. I can see it.
- 20:42Speaker 6: That's usually what I'm happy about.
- 20:44Speaker 1: So congratulations to him, though. A state record. A state record.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Very cool.
- 20:49Speaker 6: We'll have to see how long it sticks around because
- 20:50Speaker 6: what do they say about records? They're just meant to
- 20:52Speaker 6: be broken. So maybe he'll break his own record next year. Oh, dope.
- 20:55Speaker 6: The world is full of nice people. If you can't
- 20:57Speaker 6: find one, you got to be one. And broken crayons,
- 20:59Speaker 6: they still color.
