• 2:45
In local news, a piece of historical military equipment, specifically part of a drone plane
• 2:51
known as a Remote Control Aerial Target, recently surfaced on Marconi Beach in Wellfleet, Cape
• 2:58
  Cod.
• 3:00
This artifact, identified by a National Park Service historian, dates back to the 1940s
• 3:05
and 50s, when these drones were utilized for anti-aircraft training at the now-defunct
• 3:11
  Camp Wellfleet.
• 3:13
These drones were launched from aircraft at high speeds and controlled remotely for target
• 3:18
  practice.
• 3:20
The discovery highlights the area's past military activities and offers a rare glimpse
• 3:26
into the technology used during that era.
• 3:33
  Now on to sports.
• 3:36
In recent years, Major League Baseball has faced numerous challenges, not least of which
• 3:41
concern the very tools of the game, the baseballs and uniforms.
• 3:46
Since MLB's purchase of the baseball manufacturer Rawlings, there have been ongoing issues with
• 3:52
  the baseballs, complicating things further.
• 3:56
Players like Kenley Jansen and Pete Fairbanks have voiced significant frustrations over
• 4:01
the quality of the baseballs, specifically grip problems that differ from past complaints
• 4:07
about the balls being overly juiced.
• 4:11
These grip issues, persisting since the acquisition, are impacting pitchers' ability to perform
• 4:17
consistently and safely, a stark shift from 2022, when the main concerns were aerodynamic
• 4:24
  changes due to manufacturing inconsistencies.
• 4:27
Additionally, MLB players are contending with new uniform issues.
• 4:34
This season's uniforms, produced by Nike and Fanatics, are lighter, but have raised
• 4:39
eyebrows due to their see-through fabric, leading to discomfort and a lack of practicality.
• 4:46
Both these issues with the baseballs and uniforms underscore a growing concern about the attention
• 4:51
to detail and quality control in MLB, affecting both the integrity of the sport and the athlete's
• 4:59
  performance.
• 5:01
In local sports, the Red Sox, at home, lost to the Guardians 6-0.
• 5:08
And in national hockey, the Bruins on the road, lost to the Capitals 3-0.
• 5:14
Tonight, the Red Sox are at home for Game 2 against the Guardians.
• 5:20
And the Bruins are back at home to skate with the Senators.
• 5:26
In top news, around the world, some of the most remarkable architectural wonders are
• 5:32
at risk, necessitating urgent conservation efforts to prevent their demise.
• 5:38
In Valonia, Italy, the 157-foot Torre Garacenda, a 12th century structure with a notable lean,
• 5:46
is receiving intervention, using techniques that stabilized the leaning tower of Pisa.
• 5:53
Similarly, England's Hearst Castle is under reinforcement due to erosion from relentless
• 5:59
sea waves, while Egypt's ancient site of Abydos faces threats from looting, prompting
• 6:05
  heightened security and preservation efforts.
• 6:09
In Western Australia, the expansive Rock Art site of Miradjuga is battling pollution from
• 6:14
nearby industrial activities, even as it gains some protection through expansion into the
• 6:20
  national park.
• 6:22
Teotihuacan in Mexico, overwhelmed by the impacts of overtourism and environmental wear,
• 6:28
is seeing initiatives for sustainable tourism and structural preservation.
• 6:34
Each of these sites showcases the global challenge of preserving historical legacies against
• 6:40
modern threats, underscoring the crucial role of conservation in maintaining our cultural
• 6:46
  heritage.
• 6:48
In business news, Tigerwood's choice in putters has sparked not just a trend, but
• 6:55
an asset class among golf enthusiasts.
• 6:59
Scotty Cameron's Custom Clubs, especially the Torre putters known as Circle T's, command
• 7:05
hefty prices, with values stretching from $2,000 to $8,000 per club, and can resell
• 7:12
  for much more.
• 7:14
This fervor isn't limited to the clubs.
• 7:17
Associated merchandise like head covers can also fetch high prices, reflecting the putter's
• 7:22
status as both functional sports equipment and collectible art pieces.
• 7:27
Cameron's designs, which have been wielded by pros like Woods and Brooks-Kotka, carry
• 7:33
a mystique enhanced by their aesthetic appeal and rarity, fueling a collector's market
• 7:38
  akin to luxury brands.
• 7:41
The Allure is so potent that even a backup putter made for Woods fetched nearly $400,000
• 7:47
  at auction.
• 7:49
With such high stakes, these putters are seen not just as sports tools, but as investments
• 7:54
in art, bridging the gap between athleticism and craftsmanship in the golfing world.
• 8:01
In crypto movement, Bitcoin is just under $63,000.
• 8:07

• 9:00
And now, back to the show.
• 9:03
  Let's talk science.
• 9:05
Top astronomers are gathering at London's Royal Society to critically reassess long-standing
• 9:11
cosmological theories, including the centriole belief that the universe expands at a constant
• 9:17
  rate.
• 9:19
Spearheaded by Oxford cosmologist Suvar Sarkar, this revaluation comes amid growing evidence
• 9:25
suggesting the universe may be expanding unevenly, a phenomenon that could fundamentally alter
• 9:32
  our understanding of cosmic dynamics.
• 9:35
Sarkar's research into over a million quasars indicates a possible lopsided universe, challenging
• 9:42
the conventional role of dark energy and the uniformity assumed in the cosmological constant.
• 9:49
This paradigm shift could reshape physics, prompting a thorough review of what we perceive
• 9:54
as the fabric of the universe.
• 9:57
And in entertainment news, Chris Hemsworth's attempt to star in Kevin Costner's new directorial
• 10:06
project was unsuccessful as Costner decided to take on the lead role himself.
• 10:13
The movie, described as an abstract and interesting love story involving a horse wrangler, drew
• 10:19
Hemsworth's interest, partly due to his own fondness for horses.
• 10:25
Despite Hemsworth's efforts and interest, Costner, feeling he was still fit for the
• 10:30
role, chose to cast himself, suggesting Hemsworth look for another project.
• 10:36
This undisclosed film is separate from Costner's current work on his western epic Horizon,
• 10:42
which involves multiple installments and a broad and sumble cast.
• 10:47
Well, alrighty folks, it's time for the quote of the day.
• 10:53
And today, our quote comes from Michael Jordan.
• 10:57
  And number 24 said,
• 10:59
Some people want it to happen.
• 11:02
  Some wish it would happen.
• 11:04
  And others make it happen.
• 11:08
And that's a wrap for this morning.
