- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:04Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus. Powered by Seahawks.com. Now, here's your host, NASA Chobie.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Welcome in to another edition of Hawk Talk, the Seahawks.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Welcoming in the San Francisco 49ers to Lumen Field Bump.
- 0:19Speaker 1: It's rivalry week. You know, I know a lot of
- 0:21Speaker 1: players aren't going to put the focus there, but we know.
- 0:23Speaker 1: The fan bases, everybody knows. It's a little extra when
- 0:25Speaker 1: you're playing the 49ers. Especially after the last two times
- 0:28Speaker 1: these teams played, Bump.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Yeah, man. We got their number.
- 0:32Speaker 3: We actually have a plaque in their locker room. The
- 0:35Speaker 3: Hawks have been here and dominated twice.
- 0:38Speaker 1: They redid their locker room. I heard Jen talking about it.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Oh, did they?
- 0:40Speaker 1: Yeah, they had to do a couple things, maybe given,
- 0:43Speaker 1: you know, just how the last game. Well, no, just there's,
- 0:46Speaker 1: you know, there's cigars, there's champagne, there's beer, all that stuff.
- 0:49Speaker 2: A little smoke in there.
- 0:49Speaker 1: No, but in all honesty, it's a new year, new team.
- 0:51Speaker 1: The Niners are playing good football. There's no mistake about it.
- 0:54Speaker 1: This is going to be a game. that, you know,
- 0:57Speaker 1: down the road could decide the NFC West. I mean, obviously,
- 0:59Speaker 1: you have to play the Rams twice and all that,
- 1:01Speaker 1: but we know these games mean so much more by
- 1:03Speaker 1: the end of the year, so let's waste no more time.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Get right into the matchup with these 49ers. What's on tap?
- 1:09Speaker 1: What's on tap? 4-0, but first place in the NFC
- 1:13Speaker 1: West with wins over the Rams, Dolphins, Cardinals, and Broncos.
- 1:18Speaker 1: 27-7 beatdown of the Rams week one. Some would chalk
- 1:20Speaker 1: that up to poor travel plans, whatever, what have you.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Injuries to the Rams. Blame the travel agent. Blame the
- 1:27Speaker 1: travel agent.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Coach McVay.
- 1:30Speaker 1: And then they beat down the Dolphins, who were struggling.
- 1:33Speaker 1: The Cardinals, that game was close. I mean, it was
- 1:35Speaker 1: six points. The Cardinals came back late, but that game
- 1:38Speaker 1: was definitely competitive. And then these Broncos games, Bump, what
- 1:41Speaker 1: did you see for them against Denver?
- 1:43Speaker 2: Oh, man, it started off pretty slow.
- 1:45Speaker 3: The game's first touchdown coming from Debo Samuel, who looks good,
- 1:48Speaker 3: running down that dang sideline, man. with 4-15 left in
- 1:51Speaker 3: the third quarter, making the score 10-3 Niners. After Broncos
- 1:55Speaker 3: field goal, the 49ers would find the end zone again
- 1:58Speaker 3: after a one-yard touchdown from who?
- 1:59Speaker 2: Christian McCaffrey.
- 2:01Speaker 3: And then the Broncos would answer with a 70-yard drive
- 2:03Speaker 3: of their own, ending with a 13-yard touchdown pass to
- 2:05Speaker 3: Jalen Waddell, making the score 17-14 with four minutes left.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Yeah, Niners will seal the game when Purdy connected with
- 2:12Speaker 1: George Kittle, showing he's still got the juice off that
- 2:15Speaker 1: Achilles injury, runs it for a long touchdown, 56 yards.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Denver misses a field goal in the next possession. They
- 2:20Speaker 1: needed two scores. San Francisco ran out the clock, taking
- 2:23Speaker 1: some knees. Purdy finished the game 19-30, 2-18, two touchdowns,
- 2:26Speaker 1: zero interceptions. We're going to spend a lot of time
- 2:28Speaker 1: talking about Brock Purdy today. McCaffrey, 70 total yards. Debo Samuel,
- 2:32Speaker 1: you mentioned it, Bump. And he physically looks good.
- 2:35Speaker 2: He does.
- 2:35Speaker 1: The guy that we saw that we're seeing so far
- 2:37Speaker 1: this year wasn't the guy I think we saw in Washington.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Nah.
- 2:40Speaker 1: It felt like 2019, 2020 Debo. You know what?
- 2:44Speaker 2: Him and Washington reminded me of when I played in
- 2:46Speaker 2: the CFL. I didn't want to be there. I didn't
- 2:48Speaker 2: want to be there. You can tell by the way
- 2:49Speaker 2: I was playing. I did not want to be there.
- 2:51Speaker 3: So it was nice for him to be in that
- 2:53Speaker 3: dark place and then come back home and play some
- 2:54Speaker 3: good ball.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Yeah, and then Drake Greenlaw, he was definitely motivated. He
- 2:57Speaker 1: was cut from the Broncos the year before. He was
- 3:00Speaker 1: on Sean Payton's head a little bit. There were a
- 3:02Speaker 1: couple altercations there, but he's playing good football. He's healthy again.
- 3:05Speaker 1: And the only big thing, obviously, the Niners are impacted
- 3:08Speaker 1: by injuries. The biggest one, Nick Bosa, probably not going
- 3:10Speaker 1: to play this week. There's a couple other lurking ones, Bump.
- 3:13Speaker 1: But now we've had 17 games really screw stuff up.
- 3:17Speaker 1: We used to have quarters of seasons, and we could just,
- 3:19Speaker 1: you know, obviously we'll call it the first quarter.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Well, technically, after the first quarter, we'll be through the quarter.
- 3:26Speaker 2: So we're right there.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Yeah, so let's jump into this head-to-head, Bump, how the
- 3:29Speaker 1: numbers look.
- 3:29Speaker 2: All right, man, let's look at these numbers. Now it's
- 3:32Speaker 2: starting to make sense, right?
- 3:33Speaker 3: The Hawks are 13th overall in offense, 13th running the football,
- 3:36Speaker 3: 14th pass offense.
- 3:38Speaker 2: It took a little bump down. And then 10th when
- 3:40Speaker 2: it comes to points per game.
- 3:41Speaker 3: The Niners are 7th overall offense, 6th running the football,
- 3:44Speaker 3: 8th throwing the rock, and 30th, excuse me, tied for
- 3:48Speaker 3: 2nd when it comes to scoring.
- 3:50Speaker 2: 30.5 points per game. The offense is rolling for the 49ers.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Yeah, they're scoring points. They're definitely scoring points in bunches.
- 3:57Speaker 1: When you flip it over to defense, that's where the
- 3:58Speaker 1: Seahawks kind of have the advantage. Number 1 in total
- 4:00Speaker 1: defense in the league when it comes to yardage. 11th
- 4:03Speaker 1: in run defense. That slid after last week because the
- 4:06Speaker 1: Chargers found some success there. They are first in pass defense,
- 4:09Speaker 1: allowing just 144 yards a game, and they are fifth
- 4:12Speaker 1: in yards allowed. Looking at the Niners, they are seventh
- 4:14Speaker 1: in total defense, ninth against the run, 11th against the pass,
- 4:18Speaker 1: and third in points per game. Both teams, turnover differential.
- 4:22Speaker 1: They're in the positive side. Seahawks are tied for fourth.
- 4:24Speaker 1: The Niners are tied for 14th. It's going to be
- 4:27Speaker 1: a dogfight. These teams are both. They have both strengths offensively, defensively.
- 4:31Speaker 1: When you look at it, something's got to give. Really
- 4:33Speaker 1: good defenses on both sides, good offenses. I'm excited to
- 4:35Speaker 1: see this matchup.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Yeah, man, it should be a good one. It's always
- 4:39Speaker 2: a good one.
- 4:39Speaker 3: The past three years, it's been a good one when
- 4:41Speaker 3: it comes to this 49er team.
- 4:42Speaker 2: So, yeah, man, let's get ready to go.
- 4:46Speaker 1: And obviously these are division rivals, been division rivals since
- 4:49Speaker 1: the realignment in 2022. So there is a lot of
- 4:52Speaker 1: history between both these teams. Let's get to know it.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Know your history.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Seahawks lead the all-time series 33-24 after ending a six-game
- 5:01Speaker 1: losing streak to the 49ers in 2024. That was a
- 5:04Speaker 1: brutal stretch for us.
- 5:05Speaker 2: It sure was.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Six, it felt longer. But the Seahawks have actually won
- 5:09Speaker 1: three of the last four meetings. And before that six-game
- 5:12Speaker 1: winning streak, just to set the record straight, the Seahawks
- 5:14Speaker 1: actually won 17 of 20. So it's really been a
- 5:17Speaker 1: domination for most of the last couple decades. Obviously, two
- 5:20Speaker 1: different eras, Pete and Harbaugh, and then now McDonald and
- 5:23Speaker 1: Kyle Shanahan. But we know what happened last time these
- 5:26Speaker 1: two teams played. It was a beat down. Beat down.
- 5:31Speaker 1: 41-6 at Lumen Field in the divisional playoffs. And this
- 5:35Speaker 1: game was over from the jump. Now, I usually struggle
- 5:38Speaker 1: saying that because these guys went out there and physically
- 5:41Speaker 1: had to shut them down, play after play, and do
- 5:43Speaker 1: all that. But the energy, if you were in the
- 5:46Speaker 1: building that night, when Shahid is posing in the end
- 5:50Speaker 1: zone after running the opening kickoff back and their kicker's sliding,
- 5:52Speaker 1: trying to slide tackle him, getting a flag, the energy,
- 5:55Speaker 1: for one, it caused an earthquake. Secondly, the energy in
- 5:58Speaker 1: that building, you just knew the Niners are not ready
- 6:02Speaker 1: for what's about to happen. hit them and it did
- 6:04Speaker 1: punch them right in the face.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Yeah they got smacked i mean the first play 95
- 6:08Speaker 3: yards to the house i couldn't believe it i saw
- 6:10Speaker 3: the flag and i'm like please yeah please no holding
- 6:12Speaker 3: blocking the back or something uh but i think i
- 6:14Speaker 3: was in the booth with rabel and you and i
- 6:17Speaker 3: think you pointed out that the guys slid and the
- 6:19Speaker 3: coaches are right next to us and they're still celebrating
- 6:21Speaker 3: so i'm like okay if they're good yeah we must
- 6:23Speaker 3: be good no that was that was electric man it
- 6:25Speaker 3: was a fun atmosphere.
- 6:27Speaker 1: And then i think what really did it for me
- 6:29Speaker 1: was that their first series so We score. We kick
- 6:31Speaker 1: off to them. They're facing a fourth and one. And
- 6:35Speaker 1: they run this weird kind of gadget play. Purdy hands
- 6:38Speaker 1: it off to Juszczyk, and they run like a sprint
- 6:40Speaker 1: option towards the Niners' sideline. And McCaffrey's like the option back.
- 6:44Speaker 1: And all the Seahawks are running to the football, kind
- 6:46Speaker 1: of get strung out. Juszczyk pitches it, kind of fumbles
- 6:49Speaker 1: out of bounds. Seahawks take over and downs. And you
- 6:51Speaker 1: just looked at it, because Kyle Shanahan is arguably the
- 6:54Speaker 1: best offensive play caller in the game, right? When I
- 6:57Speaker 1: saw that on fourth and one, I go, oh, they're
- 6:59Speaker 1: in trouble.
- 7:00Speaker 2: They're in trouble, isn't it? The atmosphere.
- 7:02Speaker 3: I remember it was like, it was obviously a late-night game, right?
- 7:05Speaker 3: Prime time.
- 7:06Speaker 2: It was smoky out there.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Like, the whole scene was set up for the dramatic
- 7:11Speaker 3: start and finish.
- 7:12Speaker 2: But, man, we knew that game was over fairly quickly.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Yeah, it was 24-6 at halftime. Ken Walker had three touchdowns.
- 7:17Speaker 1: It was just a beatdown. And the Niners were, of course,
- 7:20Speaker 1: because you're going to hear this, and I'm sure if
- 7:21Speaker 1: you haven't, you're hearing it all week. The Niners were
- 7:23Speaker 1: super dinged up at the end of last year.
- 7:24Speaker 3: Yep.
- 7:25Speaker 1: When you look at their offense, though, I saw this
- 7:27Speaker 1: from Josh Dubot, who we're going to talk to on
- 7:29Speaker 1: Hawks Live. Tonight, their AP writer down there in the Bay.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Only one big time missing starter was Kittle. The rest
- 7:37Speaker 1: of their playmakers on offense. I'm just talking about offense.
- 7:40Speaker 1: I'm talking about defense. Hardy was out there. Their left half,
- 7:44Speaker 1: Trent Williams was out there. McCaffrey was out there. Juszczyk
- 7:46Speaker 1: was out there. They had some people playing. Let's not
- 7:50Speaker 1: say that nobody played. Yes, they were banged up defensively.
- 7:52Speaker 1: No Fred Warner, no Bosa. I understand that. But offensively,
- 7:55Speaker 1: they had some dudes out there. So don't get it
- 7:56Speaker 1: completely twisted. The Seahawks weren't playing a practice squad team.
- 8:00Speaker 1: They were playing. There were some gold jackets that played
- 8:03Speaker 1: in that game.
- 8:04Speaker 3: Calm down, CJ Gardner. Don't be talking about practice players, man. Hey, man,
- 8:08Speaker 3: practice players are what it do. Practice squad out here, man.
- 8:11Speaker 3: We know about it. Ready squad. But anyway, let's flip
- 8:14Speaker 3: our attention back to what's going on in the division.
- 8:15Speaker 1: What's the word?
- 8:17Speaker 3: Where my soldiers at?
- 8:18Speaker 2: Westside! Where my soldiers at?
- 8:19Speaker 1: Westside!
- 8:20Speaker 2: And the Seahawks are the NFC West champs again.
- 8:23Speaker 1: What's the word in the West on Hawk Talk?
- 8:27Speaker 3: All right, division leaders are coming into town. San Francisco
- 8:30Speaker 3: 49ers are 4-0. The Seattle Seahawks 3-1, Rams 2-2, and
- 8:34Speaker 3: the Cardinals 1-3. This win will tie some things up
- 8:38Speaker 3: at the top, so let's get it done.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Let's revisit what happened. Rams at the Eagles.
- 8:42Speaker 3: This was easily the most frustrating football game of the
- 8:45Speaker 3: whole weekend. The Eagles were up 20-10 in the fourth
- 8:47Speaker 3: quarter with 940 left in the game, facing a first
- 8:50Speaker 3: and goal from the Rams' nine-yard line. They proceeded to
- 8:53Speaker 3: turn the ball over on downs. Then they gave up
- 8:55Speaker 3: a 10-play 98-yard drive, ending with a Kyron Williams touchdown,
- 9:01Speaker 3: went three and out. And then they give up a
- 9:03Speaker 3: 10-play 79-yard drive, ending with another Kyron Williams touchdown. And
- 9:08Speaker 3: that was all she wrote for the Rams. They go
- 9:10Speaker 3: out to Philly with a 24-20 win. Hertz was 12
- 9:14Speaker 3: of 27, 93 yards.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Not good. Two touchdowns.
- 9:17Speaker 3: He was sacked four times. Matthew Stafford, 32 of 51, 317.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Zero touchdowns, but he did turn the football over. He's
- 9:24Speaker 3: not playing his best ball as of late. Kyron Williams
- 9:26Speaker 3: ended the day with 16 carries for 80 yards and
- 9:28Speaker 3: two touchdowns. And Puka got back to doing Puka things.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Dye reception for 125. The Rams were so close to
- 9:35Speaker 3: a 1-3 start, thanks to Philly. The Rams will welcome
- 9:39Speaker 3: in Josh Allen and the Bills on Monday Night Football
- 9:42Speaker 3: this week.
- 9:43Speaker 1: So close to being 1-3. Man, and the pressure would
- 9:46Speaker 1: have been on because the Bills are a good team.
- 9:48Speaker 1: That would have been. So it'll be interesting to see. Obviously,
- 9:50Speaker 1: the Rams... They haven't lived up to their Super Bowl
- 9:53Speaker 1: expectations because they were crowned in June. They're obviously a
- 9:55Speaker 1: really good football team. They're not healthy yet. But just
- 9:57Speaker 1: something to monitor, man, because they're they're tough schedule we'll
- 10:01Speaker 1: see how they continue to play obviously go bills we'll
- 10:03Speaker 1: see what happens in that ball game other way other
- 10:07Speaker 1: elsewhere in the division i should say cardinals went to
- 10:09Speaker 1: the giants cardinals kind of been in every game this
- 10:12Speaker 1: year yeah so they've competed they did their thing other
- 10:15Speaker 1: than the seahawks game Well, let's fast forward to the
- 10:17Speaker 1: end of that game. Tram by six. Cardinals drive all
- 10:19Speaker 1: the way down the field. Jacoby Percet got them down
- 10:22Speaker 1: their ball on the Giants' four-yard line. Facing a fourth down.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Game on the line. Unfortunately, he throws a pick to
- 10:28Speaker 1: Deontay Banks. Runs it back 98 yards. Four touchdown. Backbreaker
- 10:33Speaker 1: for the Cardinals. Malik Nabors had 112 yards on six receptions.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Jacoby Percet, okay, 21-35, 166. Two touchdowns but three interceptions.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Marvin Harrison sighting. He had a touchdown. That was his
- 10:47Speaker 1: only reception of the game. To make matters worse, they
- 10:50Speaker 1: lost their left tackle, Paris Johnson Jr., for the season
- 10:53Speaker 1: with a torn bicep. Cardinals will welcome in the Detroit
- 10:56Speaker 1: Lions on Sunday.
- 10:58Speaker 3: Hey, get Marvin out of Arizona. Just get him out
- 11:00Speaker 3: of there. He needs a fresh start, man. He needs
- 11:02Speaker 3: a fresh start. He's too good to be playing the
- 11:05Speaker 3: level of football that he's playing.
- 11:07Speaker 2: He's not motivated. He's not motivated.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Different coordinators? What's going on?
- 11:10Speaker 3: Something, man. I watch his route running. He seems uninterested.
- 11:14Speaker 3: That's not the Marvin Harrison I saw at Ohio State.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Get him out of there. Start all over.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, obviously, you know, wide receiver you. He
- 11:21Speaker 1: was the sure thing. And it's, yeah, it's head scratcher.
- 11:24Speaker 1: I don't know. I think you might be right, but
- 11:25Speaker 1: who knows. Anyway, let's pull our attention back to these 49ers.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Man up. Hey, who you got?
- 11:31Speaker 2: Who you got?
- 11:32Speaker 1: You know what time it is.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Man up.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Man up, brother.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Man up.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Man up on Hawk Talk. We start with the quarterbacks
- 11:39Speaker 1: like we do each and every week. Brock Purdy, man.
- 11:41Speaker 1: It's crazy to think Brock Purdy is now in year
- 11:43Speaker 1: five in National Football League.
- 11:45Speaker 2: He's all grown up now. Hey, it's all grown up.
- 11:47Speaker 1: A lot has happened since he's become QB one for
- 11:49Speaker 1: the 49ers. He's led in the playoff three times, got
- 11:52Speaker 1: him the NFC championship game. Then he got hurt in
- 11:54Speaker 1: that game in 22, gets them to a Superbowl. They
- 11:56Speaker 1: don't win that against the chiefs gets to a wins
- 11:59Speaker 1: a road playoff game in Philly. Then obviously loses the
- 12:01Speaker 1: Seahawks in the divisional playoffs, five and three playoff record
- 12:05Speaker 1: pro bowler, got a massive payday top 10 quarterback paid
- 12:09Speaker 1: highest paid in the league. So he's doing that. And
- 12:13Speaker 1: obviously we know, He's played with a lot of good
- 12:16Speaker 1: football players. We know that. He's played with potential Hall
- 12:20Speaker 1: of Famers, Kittle's a Hall of Famer, McCaffrey's going to
- 12:22Speaker 1: be a Hall of Famer, like all these guys that
- 12:23Speaker 1: he's played with. But he's a good football player.
- 12:26Speaker 2: He is.
- 12:27Speaker 1: You cannot take that away from him. He's played some
- 12:29Speaker 1: really good football, too. So last year he was hurt
- 12:31Speaker 1: a lot. He only played in nine games, still had
- 12:33Speaker 1: 20 touchdowns, 10 interceptions. This year, red hot start. Tied
- 12:37Speaker 1: for first in passing touchdowns to 11. Tied for first
- 12:40Speaker 1: or first in passer rating with 126.2. Second in yards
- 12:43Speaker 1: per pass attempt, 8.9. 13 yards for pass completion, and
- 12:46Speaker 1: number one in QBR. He has not been sacked one
- 12:50Speaker 1: time this year. 49ers are the first team in 21
- 12:54Speaker 1: years to open the season with four straight games without
- 12:57Speaker 1: allowing a sack after beating the Broncos on Sunday. First
- 12:59Speaker 1: team since Indianapolis in 2005 to open their season without
- 13:02Speaker 1: allowing a sack in the first four games. Purdy has
- 13:05Speaker 1: been under pressure on 35 dropbacks according to Pro Football Focus,
- 13:09Speaker 1: the second fewest of any team so far this season.
- 13:13Speaker 1: So on the air. 79, 113, 1,007 yards, 11 touchdowns,
- 13:17Speaker 1: just one interception.
- 13:19Speaker 2: He's looking good, man.
- 13:19Speaker 3: He's moving well in the pocket. Offensive line is protecting him.
- 13:22Speaker 3: He's getting the football out on time. Respect where respect
- 13:25Speaker 3: is due. My man is playing like the MVP of
- 13:28Speaker 3: this league, so it's up to this defensive line to
- 13:31Speaker 3: kind of kill all that noise and bring him back
- 13:32Speaker 3: to reality.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Yeah, and here's the one thing, Bump. We've talked about
- 13:35Speaker 1: Purdy a lot on this show, obviously playing the 49ers
- 13:38Speaker 1: twice a year. Here's something that really jumps out to me,
- 13:41Speaker 1: and I think this is the key to the game.
- 13:43Speaker 1: And we can say this every week, but it's about turnovers, right?
- 13:45Speaker 2: Yep.
- 13:46Speaker 1: But when you break down the numbers with the 49ers
- 13:48Speaker 1: and Purdy specifically, this is how you win ballgames.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Crazy numbers.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Purdy has started 49 regular season games in the NFL.
- 13:55Speaker 1: So of the 26 regular season games he has started
- 13:59Speaker 1: and he hasn't thrown an interception, the Niners are 24-2
- 14:03Speaker 1: in those games.
- 14:03Speaker 2: That's pretty good.
- 14:04Speaker 1: He doesn't turn the ball over. Starter, no turnovers, 24-2
- 14:07Speaker 1: in those games. Now, Purdy started 23 regular season games
- 14:10Speaker 1: when he's thrown one or more interceptions. The Niners are
- 14:13Speaker 1: 10 and 13 in those games.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Okay.
- 14:15Speaker 1: So here's what we've said this for years. If Purdy
- 14:18Speaker 1: takes care of the football, the Niners win. If they
- 14:20Speaker 1: turn the ball over, they don't. It sounds really simple,
- 14:23Speaker 1: but I really think you take the ball away. The
- 14:25Speaker 1: Seahawks did a good job taking the ball away the
- 14:27Speaker 1: last two games against the Niners. Obviously, they won those
- 14:29Speaker 1: games last year, so we'll be interested to see if
- 14:32Speaker 1: they can get that.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Going this week. Yeah, man. I mean, that's the formula
- 14:35Speaker 2: right there.
- 14:35Speaker 3: You get a turnover, you have a great chance of
- 14:38Speaker 3: winning this ballgame, and that's something that's– Hawk Stephen has
- 14:40Speaker 3: been doing a great job Like we said, they're fifth
- 14:42Speaker 3: in scoring defense, talking about the Hawks allowing 18 points
- 14:45Speaker 3: per game. They're number one in passing defense, allowing 144
- 14:48Speaker 3: yards per game. So you have the ingredients to go
- 14:52Speaker 3: out there and snatch the football out the air and
- 14:54Speaker 3: give yourself a better chance. All right, let's talk about
- 14:56Speaker 3: our quarterback, Sam Darnold, man.
- 14:58Speaker 2: He had an all right performance. It wasn't great. All right.
- 15:02Speaker 3: 13 of 19, 168, two touchdowns last week against the, the,
- 15:05Speaker 3: the chargers.
- 15:06Speaker 2: But again, When he has a clean pocket, his numbers
- 15:09Speaker 2: were great.
- 15:09Speaker 3: All right, Darnold completed 10 of 11 attempts for 131 yards,
- 15:12Speaker 3: two touchdowns without pressure against the Chargers, right?
- 15:15Speaker 2: Keep them clean.
- 15:16Speaker 3: However, Darnold was pressured on 53% of dropbacks, the highest
- 15:20Speaker 3: rate he's faced in the game as a Seahawk, completing
- 15:22Speaker 3: three of 11 attempts for 37 yards and an interception
- 15:25Speaker 3: when under pressure. The Chargers registered pressure on 60% of
- 15:28Speaker 3: dropbacks in the first half, 45% in the second half.
- 15:33Speaker 3: On the year, Darnold is 45 of 69, 560 yards,
- 15:36Speaker 3: six touchdowns, three interceptions. He's been sacked four times with
- 15:40Speaker 3: a QB rating of 101.1. Got to keep him clean, right?
- 15:44Speaker 2: Keep him clean.
- 15:45Speaker 1: I think, obviously, it's harder to play under pressure. The
- 15:49Speaker 1: Chargers did a good job there. But I think the numbers,
- 15:52Speaker 1: it's early in the year, but the numbers show if
- 15:53Speaker 1: you keep a clean pocket, Sam Darnold's going to cook.
- 15:56Speaker 1: And if you don't, they struggle a little bit there
- 15:58Speaker 1: at the end. Nice thing, though, Bump, there's no Nick
- 16:00Speaker 1: Bosa that's out there. But you do have a lot
- 16:03Speaker 1: of dogs on that side to deal with. Niners, good defense,
- 16:05Speaker 1: seventh in total yards, 11th in the run defense, third
- 16:07Speaker 1: in scoring defense, so they're doing their thing there. Now
- 16:10Speaker 1: flipping over to the running back position for the 49ers,
- 16:13Speaker 1: Christian McCaffrey. His resume speaks for itself. I don't need
- 16:16Speaker 1: to go through all of the accolades that he has
- 16:20Speaker 1: unless you live in under a rock. You know that
- 16:22Speaker 1: this guy's a dog, Swiss Army knife. Last year he
- 16:24Speaker 1: still had 1,200 yards, 10 touchdowns, also had almost 1,000
- 16:28Speaker 1: yards receiving and seven receiving touchdowns, led the NFL in
- 16:31Speaker 1: touches last year. The next closest player was 44 behind him.
- 16:35Speaker 2: Goodness gracious.
- 16:36Speaker 1: So they worked him to death, and I can't believe
- 16:37Speaker 1: he didn't miss a game last year. It was really impressive.
- 16:40Speaker 1: Fourth in all-purpose yards, second in yards from scrimmage. This year,
- 16:45Speaker 1: not the most amazing start, but he's still out there.
- 16:47Speaker 1: 50 carries, 218, four touchdowns, 16 receptions for 122 yards.
- 16:52Speaker 1: He's a three-time Pro Bowler, All-Pro, Offensive Player of the Year.
- 16:55Speaker 1: He's a dog. Now, the Seahawks' defense, their 11th-and-run defense,
- 16:59Speaker 1: allowing 102 yards per game. That went up because they
- 17:02Speaker 1: gave up 147 yards to the Chargers. That's the most
- 17:04Speaker 1: they've given up in a game since they gave 157
- 17:06Speaker 1: to the Commanders on November 2nd of 25. And that
- 17:10Speaker 1: Commanders game was a blowout. You just get some leaky
- 17:12Speaker 1: yards at the end. So, again, the Seahawks didn't allow
- 17:15Speaker 1: a 100-yard rusher per se. There's still 30 consecutive games
- 17:18Speaker 1: with that, 33 including the postseason. But they did allow
- 17:22Speaker 1: a little bit more yards than were used to, so
- 17:24Speaker 1: it'll be interesting to see how that matchup. unfolds on sunday.
- 17:27Speaker 3: Yeah man gotta tighten that run game up against a
- 17:29Speaker 3: better running back in mccaffrey but um i think we
- 17:31Speaker 3: can get it done all right emmanuel wilson versus this
- 17:34Speaker 3: 49ers defense man they have to bounce back against the
- 17:36Speaker 3: chargers uh price is out on the ir obviously you
- 17:39Speaker 3: know sharps is uh recovering from an acl injury and
- 17:43Speaker 3: um emmanuel he did his thing man he didn't disappoint
- 17:45Speaker 3: 81 yards and 21 carries one touchdown also had three
- 17:48Speaker 3: receptions for 39 yards in the touchdown it's just the
- 17:51Speaker 3: second time in his career that he had a game
- 17:53Speaker 3: with multiple touchdowns wilson We'll once again get a majority
- 17:57Speaker 3: of the carries on Sunday. On the year, Wilson, 53 carries,
- 18:00Speaker 3: a buck 90, one touchdown. George Helani and potentially Valish
- 18:04Speaker 3: Jones should also get some rest. But the Seahawks also
- 18:06Speaker 3: brought in some reinforcements. You got Robert Henry Jr. Watch
- 18:10Speaker 3: this kid's game. He's from UTSA where Rick Willen went to.
- 18:14Speaker 3: Watch this game against Texas A & M.
- 18:15Speaker 2: He's got some big play ability.
- 18:17Speaker 3: Rushed for a buck 77, had a 75-yard touchdown, man.
- 18:21Speaker 2: I like this dude. He was undrafted in 2026, but
- 18:23Speaker 2: you can find some diamonds in the rough.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Absolutely. I heard your rant earlier on Seattle Sports about
- 18:28Speaker 1: undrafted guys. Obviously, shout out to your guy, Efton Chisholm,
- 18:31Speaker 1: doing big things there. Just because you don't know about them,
- 18:33Speaker 1: like you said, doesn't mean they're not dogs. A lot
- 18:35Speaker 1: of guys have turned into that. But the one thing, Bump,
- 18:38Speaker 1: I want to talk about is the running game, and
- 18:40Speaker 1: I think this is really important for the Seahawks, their
- 18:42Speaker 1: future success this year. According to NextGenStats, the Seahawks are
- 18:46Speaker 1: really struggling in short-yard situations. Seahawks ball carriers have gained
- 18:50Speaker 1: 13 yards and a touchdown across 14 design runs. and
- 18:54Speaker 1: sneak attempts in short-yarded situations this season. They are averaging
- 18:59Speaker 1: a league-low. 9 yards per carry in those situations.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Not good.
- 19:02Speaker 1: They've been contacted behind the line of scrimmage on nine
- 19:05Speaker 1: of those 14 carries, totaling negative 12 yards before contact.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Third fewest in the NFL. You have Gohani with four
- 19:11Speaker 1: of those carries. Price with one of those. Barner with
- 19:14Speaker 1: one of those. He scored on that. And then Wilson
- 19:16Speaker 1: has the other attempts there. Now, what they're potentially missing
- 19:21Speaker 1: is Zach Charbonnet, He's eventually going to come back, obviously.
- 19:24Speaker 1: But last year, he was really good in short yardage situations,
- 19:26Speaker 1: converted 20 of 33 such carries, including seven touchdowns, tied
- 19:30Speaker 1: for fifth most in the NFL bump. So that is
- 19:32Speaker 1: a part of the game where the Seahawks really need
- 19:34Speaker 1: to improve in short yardage. Do you think we're going
- 19:37Speaker 1: to see more of the barnyard come back?
- 19:38Speaker 3: I think you have to. That's the only thing that
- 19:40Speaker 3: really works so far. I mean, only one yard and
- 19:43Speaker 3: scored a touchdown. But listen, this is all just leverage
- 19:46Speaker 3: and push and one two and i think this team
- 19:48Speaker 3: has that so uh we'll see um whoever's running that
- 19:51Speaker 3: rock you gotta look out for fred warner and and
- 19:53Speaker 3: dre greenlaw and they're both playing at a high level
- 19:55Speaker 3: we know who fred warner is he's going to be
- 19:56Speaker 3: in the hall of fame four-time pro bowler a four-time
- 19:59Speaker 3: first team all pro and um he is one of
- 20:03Speaker 3: the most explosive linebackers i see from sideline to sideline
- 20:06Speaker 3: i've seen him shed blocks and dive over another body
- 20:10Speaker 3: um to make the tackle man he last year he
- 20:12Speaker 3: missed the final 12 games of 2025 and um it
- 20:14Speaker 3: was the first time in his career that he missed
- 20:17Speaker 3: more than one game in a season he started in
- 20:19Speaker 3: all 125 games he played in for the niners prior
- 20:22Speaker 3: to that um in 2026 he has 40 tackles three
- 20:25Speaker 3: passes defended two forced fumbles a half sack a tfl
- 20:28Speaker 3: two quarterback hits this guy's a problem yeah.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Fred fred is one of the best i mean when
- 20:33Speaker 1: he was coming up and bobby was still at his
- 20:35Speaker 1: peak doing his thing you could just tell that Fred
- 20:37Speaker 1: was kind of the next version of Bobby Wagner. Obviously,
- 20:39Speaker 1: Fred is his own player, and he's super special in
- 20:42Speaker 1: his own right, like you said, future Hall of Famer.
- 20:44Speaker 1: So it was a big miss for them last year
- 20:46Speaker 1: when he wasn't playing. And now he's got his partner back.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Drake Greenlaw is back in San Fran after a year
- 20:50Speaker 1: in Denver. Things didn't go well for him in Denver,
- 20:52Speaker 1: was never really healthy. Remember, he blew his Achilles taking
- 20:55Speaker 1: the field in the Super Bowl against the Chiefs. Took
- 20:58Speaker 1: him a long time, was never really right last year.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Came back this year, has played in every game, and
- 21:03Speaker 1: like I said earlier, he was fired up against the Broncos,
- 21:05Speaker 1: trying to get a little revenge there. So far this year,
- 21:07Speaker 1: 34 tackles, one forced fumble, but together they are definitely
- 21:11Speaker 1: something to contend with in the middle of the field.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Speaking of Hall of Famers, Bump, they have another Hall
- 21:17Speaker 1: of Fame guy, hasn't spent his whole career in San Francisco,
- 21:20Speaker 1: but he's definitely gonna get his gold jacket in Mike Evans.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Yeah. Mike Evans, 13 year vet, man.
- 21:25Speaker 3: And last season we saw one of the most impressive
- 21:27Speaker 3: streaks of all time come to an end. Evans had
- 21:30Speaker 3: a thousand yards in 11 straight seasons. Only him and Jerry, uh,
- 21:34Speaker 3: have been able to do that. Uh, but in 2025,
- 21:37Speaker 3: he only played in eight games due to injury. Those
- 21:38Speaker 3: 11 consecutive seasons with a thousand yards are tied for
- 21:41Speaker 3: the most NFL history. Like I said, only him and Jerry, um,
- 21:47Speaker 3: Mike Evans has found his role in this offense, right?
- 21:50Speaker 3: He doesn't have to be the explosive guy, right? You
- 21:52Speaker 3: just be a possession guy. And he's still got some
- 21:54Speaker 3: twitch to him, man. I saw a touchdown that he scored.
- 21:56Speaker 3: Got on the DB's heels. Gave him a jab over
- 21:59Speaker 3: the top. I mean, he's one of the best in
- 22:00Speaker 3: the game, dog. So he has almost 900 career receptions,
- 22:04Speaker 3: over 13,000 yards, and 110 touchdowns. Those 110 touchdowns are
- 22:07Speaker 3: the 10th most in NFL history so far this year.
- 22:08Speaker 3: 17 receptions, 213, and two touchdowns.
- 22:16Speaker 1: And I guess 14 of those 17 receptions are either
- 22:19Speaker 1: for first downs or touchdowns.
- 22:20Speaker 2: There you go.
- 22:20Speaker 1: So he's doing his thing. Guy we mentioned earlier today,
- 22:24Speaker 1: Debo Samuel made his return in San Francisco after last
- 22:26Speaker 1: season with the Commanders. Spent his first six years in
- 22:30Speaker 1: San Francisco with the 49ers. Best season coming in 2021
- 22:33Speaker 1: where he was an all-pro. 1,400 yards receiving, 365 rushing,
- 22:37Speaker 1: 14 total touchdowns. When he's at his best, you're getting
- 22:40Speaker 1: him the ball in a lot of different ways. Whether
- 22:42Speaker 1: that's receiving, running. To me, Bump, he's not the best
- 22:48Speaker 1: receiver in the game. He's not the best running back.
- 22:50Speaker 1: But he's the best version of whatever he is in
- 22:53Speaker 1: the league. He's a different Swiss Army Knife than Christian McCaffrey.
- 22:58Speaker 1: And I know this because we watched him kill us
- 23:00Speaker 1: for years in that losing streak stretch. So he can
- 23:03Speaker 1: play ball. He looks like he's in good shape, and
- 23:05Speaker 1: he's back to doing Debo things. So he's another guy
- 23:07Speaker 1: the Seahawks are going to have to contend with. Older receivers,
- 23:11Speaker 1: they don't have Pierce Hall. But these guys will absolutely
- 23:14Speaker 1: kill you if you let them. Yeah.
- 23:16Speaker 3: Debo has 72 for seven, 27 and five touchdowns.
- 23:19Speaker 2: It did not feel that way last year. I didn't
- 23:21Speaker 2: believe it either. Nah.
- 23:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:23Speaker 2: Did not feel like that. So a big as Debo, man,
- 23:25Speaker 2: he's healthy and playing some good ball.
- 23:26Speaker 1: All right.
- 23:27Speaker 3: Let's talk about our guys. We got Jason Cooper cup
- 23:30Speaker 3: and Rashid Shaheed. Jason continues to be a walking highlight reel.
- 23:34Speaker 3: But for the first time, he did not go for
- 23:36Speaker 3: over a thousand yards and did not get in the
- 23:38Speaker 3: end zone. He still let all receivers with five receptions
- 23:41Speaker 3: for seven to six yards. and I use this on
- 23:43Speaker 3: our show, you told me this, for context, if he
- 23:45Speaker 3: has 76 yards every game, he will finish the year
- 23:47Speaker 3: with 1,200 yards. 1,200 yards. That's how high he set
- 23:52Speaker 3: that bar. We look at 76 and be like, oh, man,
- 23:55Speaker 3: he had an off day. Every receiver in the league
- 23:59Speaker 3: would take at least 76 yards per game, man, because
- 24:01Speaker 3: you're going to have a job in this league for
- 24:03Speaker 3: a long time if you continue to do that.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Yeah, no, Jax is special. We already know. And now, obviously...
- 24:10Speaker 1: I'm really interested to see the times that Lenore is
- 24:12Speaker 1: matched up on Jason because we haven't heard the comments
- 24:17Speaker 1: in the media, but you know it is going down outside.
- 24:20Speaker 3: Jackson has been targeted 13 times, or excuse me, 17
- 24:24Speaker 3: times when Lenore has lined up over him. He has
- 24:27Speaker 3: 11 catches for 131 yards against Lenore. No touchdowns yet. But, listen,
- 24:31Speaker 3: I like those numbers. I mean, I think that's pretty good.
- 24:33Speaker 3: It is pretty good.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Pretty good.
- 24:35Speaker 1: So, no, I mean, yeah, I'm expecting a big game
- 24:37Speaker 1: from JSN. He didn't have to have big games last
- 24:39Speaker 1: year just the way those games played out. But Jax, obviously,
- 24:42Speaker 1: is a dog. He only needs 91 pass yards to
- 24:44Speaker 1: pass Joey Galloway. Second most receiving yards in a player's
- 24:47Speaker 1: first four season in franchise history. And look at these numbers, Bump.
- 24:52Speaker 1: I mean, third in receiving yards, first in touchdowns, first
- 24:56Speaker 1: in longest reception, receiving yards third, yards per touch second,
- 25:00Speaker 1: yards per scrimmage sixth. And it took, for him to
- 25:02Speaker 1: get out of first place, it took CeeDee Lamb to
- 25:06Speaker 1: have almost 200 yards, I think it was.
- 25:08Speaker 3: Yeah, like a buck 89 or something like that.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Yeah, so there's a couple other people playing out of
- 25:11Speaker 1: their minds just to be in this conversation. So he's
- 25:14Speaker 1: doing his thing. And then the other two guys bumped.
- 25:17Speaker 1: We got to see a little bit more from Shahid.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Hopefully we get to see a little bit more of
- 25:20Speaker 1: that on Sunday.
- 25:21Speaker 3: Yeah, we got Cooper Cutt, the OG. You know what
- 25:23Speaker 3: I'm saying? He got nine for 114 in the touchdown.
- 25:25Speaker 3: But I think the more exciting thing to see was
- 25:27Speaker 3: Rashid Shahid. catch a big what 20 yard game going
- 25:30Speaker 3: across the uh the field like a a diagonal and
- 25:34Speaker 3: then this is a 28 yard touchdown in the backfield
- 25:37Speaker 3: you got to find ways to get this dude the
- 25:38Speaker 3: ball and that's what flurry is doing on the year
- 25:40Speaker 3: he has seven receptions for 73 yards hopefully we're turning
- 25:44Speaker 3: a quarter we're going to see more of deuce deuce
- 25:46Speaker 3: getting loose.
- 25:47Speaker 1: Yeah no absolutely and if anything you put it on
- 25:49Speaker 1: film right you put it on film going into this
- 25:51Speaker 1: week that's extra meetings extra things i'm sure flurry's gonna
- 25:55Speaker 1: have a couple extra looks that look similar but different
- 25:57Speaker 1: plays so It'll be interesting to watch that chess match
- 26:00Speaker 1: over there. And lastly, last match we're going to look at,
- 26:02Speaker 1: George Kittle against his front seven. He's another guy. Going
- 26:05Speaker 1: to be a Hall of Famer. We don't got to
- 26:06Speaker 1: tell you about all the things he's done. Seven-time Pro Bowler,
- 26:09Speaker 1: two-time first-team All-Pro. He's been second-team All-Pro like three other times.
- 26:13Speaker 1: Second among active tight ends and receiving yards with 8,252,
- 26:16Speaker 1: only behind Travis Kelsey. 4,000-yard seasons. I mean, he started
- 26:22Speaker 1: tight end new, does all the things. 11 games last year,
- 26:25Speaker 1: he dealt with a hamstring tear. ankle sprain, then tore
- 26:29Speaker 1: his Achilles. The fact that he's back doing what he did,
- 26:32Speaker 1: a 56-yard touchdown, ran away from guys this last game.
- 26:35Speaker 1: The fact that he's back is crazy. Kittle is a
- 26:38Speaker 1: dude that if he didn't play for the 49ers, I
- 26:40Speaker 1: would love. I would love him.
- 26:42Speaker 3: I love watching him play.
- 26:44Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 26:44Speaker 1: I just wish he had a different uniform on. He's
- 26:46Speaker 1: a dog, and he's someone the Seahawks obviously have to
- 26:48Speaker 1: contend for because he's also a dog in the run game.
- 26:50Speaker 1: So he is somebody that you got to definitely pay
- 26:53Speaker 1: attention to.
- 26:55Speaker 3: Now.
- 26:57Speaker 1: This is how the Seahawks are going to get it
- 26:58Speaker 1: done against the division rival 49ers path to victory.
- 27:03Speaker 2: At the 45, waits for the snap. Michael Dixon puts
- 27:06Speaker 2: it down.
- 27:07Speaker 1: That kick is away. And that kick is good! The
- 27:11Speaker 1: Seahawks win!
- 27:12Speaker 3: It's good!
- 27:13Speaker 1: It's a path to victory on Hawk Talk. I mean,
- 27:16Speaker 1: I think it would be naive to not... understand the
- 27:19Speaker 1: fact that the last time they were in this building,
- 27:21Speaker 1: we know what happened. Yes, that was last year. I
- 27:23Speaker 1: don't think anyone in the Seahawks building is thinking about
- 27:25Speaker 1: that game like that. They know what's at stake. They're serious.
- 27:28Speaker 1: They're ready to rock. But if you're on the 49ers,
- 27:31Speaker 1: I don't think you can walk into that stadium not
- 27:33Speaker 1: thinking about that game. So it means a lot. So
- 27:35Speaker 1: we'll see who can control the emotions, who can play
- 27:38Speaker 1: every one step at a time and get out there
- 27:40Speaker 1: and execute. Both teams are pretty healthy bumps, so... I
- 27:43Speaker 1: don't think injuries are a factor, and now it's going
- 27:45Speaker 1: to be man versus man. Who's the best out there?
- 27:48Speaker 3: Yeah, and just clean it up. No sloppy play, man.
- 27:50Speaker 3: 150 penalty yards last week. Seven personal fouls. You got
- 27:54Speaker 3: to do better there. And then, of course, like we
- 27:57Speaker 3: say every week, take care of the football and start fast.
- 27:59Speaker 3: The 49ers are playing some good ball right now, man.
- 28:02Speaker 3: You got to stay on the field, limit those three
- 28:04Speaker 3: and outs, and Jason, get back to dominating like you've
- 28:07Speaker 3: been prior to last week.
- 28:09Speaker 1: Absolutely. It'll be interesting to watch him and Lenore go
- 28:11Speaker 1: at it. Then defensively, get after Brock Purdy. He hasn't
- 28:14Speaker 1: been sacked all year. He gets the ball out quickly.
- 28:17Speaker 1: That's why it's hard to get him on the ground.
- 28:19Speaker 1: That being said, though, you get ahead. You have to
- 28:21Speaker 1: throw the ball. You have to sit there and pat it.
- 28:22Speaker 1: That's when things happen. I mentioned earlier, Purdy has started
- 28:25Speaker 1: 26 regular season games without throwing an interception. In those games,
- 28:30Speaker 1: 49ers 24-2. Purdy has started 23 regular season games where
- 28:34Speaker 1: he's thrown one or more interceptions. In those games, the
- 28:36Speaker 1: 49ers are 10-13. You turn them over, you have a
- 28:40Speaker 1: good chance of beating them.
- 28:41Speaker 3: Yeah, make life tough for that dude, and you will
- 28:44Speaker 3: win this football game. And don't let any weapons go off.
- 28:47Speaker 3: All right, contain Mike Evans, contain McCaffrey, Kittle, and the
- 28:50Speaker 3: rest of the game. And this game could have big
- 28:54Speaker 3: playoff implications later on in the year.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Absolutely. Go win a game. Go win a week. It's
- 28:58Speaker 1: going to be a crazy atmosphere at Lumen Field. America's
- 29:01Speaker 1: Game of the Week, so you got Tom Brady. On
- 29:03Speaker 1: the call.
- 29:04Speaker 2: Always on the call.
- 29:04Speaker 3: Okay, Thomas.
- 29:05Speaker 2: Okay.
- 29:06Speaker 1: You know what it is. The Seahawks will have you
- 29:08Speaker 1: covered on the radio. Pre-game show starting at 10 a.m.
- 29:11Speaker 1: If you want to come see us in person, come
- 29:13Speaker 1: out to Ticketmaster Tailgate. We'll get you covered. Seahawks taking
- 29:16Speaker 1: on the Division Rival 49ers on Sunday at 125. He's
- 29:20Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus of Nassau Chobie. Hopefully we'll be talking to
- 29:22Speaker 1: you guys on Monday about a Seahawks win.
- 29:35Speaker 3: Thank you.
