- 0:00And gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take where we talk all
- 0:04things Major League Baseball. Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate
- 0:09Reyes. It all starts right now.
- 0:15Welcome back to the Three O Take presented by Schnook Seeder.
- 0:17This is episode 592. I'll be your host, Kyle Korne.
- 0:22I'm here with my Co host Nate Reyes.
- 0:25Nate. Daddy's back, Daddy's back.
- 0:29That's right. You weren't with us last week.
- 0:32It's good to have you back. Good to have you back.
- 0:33It was weird. It was weird being because I,
- 0:38for those who don't know, I don't know if you mentioned it,
- 0:40I was on a, a whole work conference the whole week.
- 0:42So. Yeah, we may had we may have
- 0:44alluded to the fact that you were you were struggling a
- 0:47little bit at that at that point in time and maybe maybe just
- 0:51probably not suitable for on air.
- 0:55New, new, new sales. Look, sales people just they do
- 1:02it a little bit differently. You know, the hair comes down a
- 1:06little bit Wilder, you know, So we got after it, but it was
- 1:12weird being like like seeing it like, you know what I mean?
- 1:15Like knowing that you guys could are going and I'm like not able
- 1:20to go normally. I'm like, you know, if I'm on
- 1:23vacation or like I'm not even looking at my phone.
- 1:26I was like, I could do this, but I can't do this, you know?
- 1:28I didn't like it. It was weird.
- 1:32It's all right. We made, we made do.
- 1:33We made do. It was a good show.
- 1:36It was a good show. Josh in the corner got promoted
- 1:39to Josh in the Square, I guess. I don't know Co captain, Co
- 1:45captain, but the yeah, we made it.
- 1:46We made it work. A little controversy to start
- 1:50the show today. Wanted to discuss briefly Nate,
- 1:54I wanted to actually get your thoughts, your follow up
- 1:56thoughts to what is the controversy of the Major League
- 2:01Baseball teams with states in their name controversy.
- 2:05Because for those who don't know, I put out a video a day or
- 2:12two ago where the prompt was I'll just lay the lay the
- 2:16foundation here give you the background the prompt was name
- 2:20the four Major League Baseball teams with states in their name.
- 2:25Now, in giving Nate this prompt, I already know the answers,
- 2:30'cause this is part of the part of the content we do.
- 2:32This is sort of the game set up. I give Nate the prompt, he's got
- 2:35to answer in 60 seconds and I know the answers and he starts
- 2:41reeling off, He said Minnesota, which being the first one you
- 2:45pulled was very impressive. That would have been the last
- 2:47one I pulled because Minnesota, Minneapolis, it all runs
- 2:49together to me. And then he he, he mentions the
- 2:53rain or no. Then he goes into the Yankees
- 2:56and Mets and then finishes up with the Rangers.
- 2:58And it was like, how did I do? I was like, no, you're wrong.
- 3:02Because the New York team, I couldn't.
- 3:03Lock back in after. That you were.
- 3:06You were. You were bamboozed.
- 3:09I thought the two that you would get first.
- 3:11Yeah, yeah. So to which I say, no, you're
- 3:15wrong because both of those teams represent like the New
- 3:18York in both of those teams alludes to slash acknowledges
- 3:23the city of New York, and the blowback on social media was off
- 3:29the charts. Just know that you've got an
- 3:32army of people out there defending your honor.
- 3:36Yeah, they normally call me idiot, so it feels good to be on
- 3:40this side of it, you know? Yeah, dude.
- 3:44I mean, look like if, if, if it's if it's a technicality, you
- 3:49know, it's, I think it's the way the the question was, was
- 3:55phrased. I mean, could I have phrased it
- 3:57better? Yes.
- 3:59Do I care? Not that much.
- 4:01I don't care. That much either to be honest
- 4:03with. You would I change it if I could
- 4:07do it again? No, because I've gone back and
- 4:11forth on it. And I think that no matter which
- 4:15way you look at it, you could be right, because I stand by the
- 4:18fact that if you look at it in a vacuum, does do the New York
- 4:26Yankees, does that name include a state?
- 4:31Technically speaking, it's the city.
- 4:35Technicality, baby, I won. And same applies for the Mets.
- 4:39And people are like, well, you're not going to call them
- 4:41the Queen's Mets or the Bronx Yankees.
- 4:44And I'm like, wait till these people figure out that New York
- 4:47is a city because apparently they didn't realize that.
- 4:50So just, you know, just wanted to get your thoughts.
- 4:54New York City is the name of the city, but you could say the same
- 4:58about Tampa Bay. The city is Tampa and then by
- 5:01Tampa Bay. No, it's you look up and there
- 5:05there are addresses in New York where you address it to New
- 5:08York, NY. So it is a literal city and
- 5:11people could not wrap their minds around that.
- 5:13Yeah, that's right. When I just say New York City,
- 5:16it's like, well, it has to be. But you're right, it is.
- 5:17It's new. York, that's what people kept
- 5:19saying. They're like, well, you're not
- 5:20going to do they go by the New York City Yankees.
- 5:22I'm like, wait till this guy finds out about the fact that
- 5:25it's a it's a city in and of itself.
- 5:28But even with that said, Tampa Bay is not a city either.
- 5:31And they I was trying to think around the league like who else
- 5:35is doing something like this? Tampa Bay would be the example
- 5:38of that, right? Because they're not Tampa that
- 5:42that is doing something where it's not actually the name that
- 5:45then that's that's what I was thinking is like who's doing
- 5:47that? But I guess that that's it.
- 5:52It's making my brain hurt a little bit, but.
- 5:54I I trust. You.
- 5:56I trust you. It sounds right.
- 5:57It's Tampa, FL right, But it is New York, NY.
- 5:59So the the beginning of my argument is is.
- 6:02Well, no, it's not the. Yeah, it's not the same because.
- 6:05It's not the same. It's not a state, but I I get
- 6:07what you're. Saying, But I was just trying to
- 6:08think who's doing that? Who's they're?
- 6:10Playing off of making additions, subtractions, that kind of
- 6:12thing, I got you. Whatever the athletics are going
- 6:16to have to do. I think honestly, I think people
- 6:19I, I appreciate comments, I think people that comment
- 6:22regularly are great, but you also maybe have too much time on
- 6:26your hands and it takes a lot for me to comment on a video.
- 6:30I don't know, maybe you, that's just me.
- 6:32It takes a lot for me to like, put my thoughts out there, like
- 6:36I really got to care. Do you think that's because you
- 6:40have a mic weekly? I guess I just don't care if
- 6:44people know what I'm thinking that much like for like I'm
- 6:47going to put it there and like I need people to scroll by this
- 6:51and I did comment on a video on TikTok and I think I just now
- 6:58stopped getting likes on it. I had a comment that.
- 7:01Popped off. Crazy, isn't it?
- 7:03It went like 8 months and I'm like enough.
- 7:05I don't want notifications on someone liking this comment
- 7:09anymore. I went back, I that happened to
- 7:11me. I went back deleted the comment.
- 7:12I was like, it's gone. I'm done.
- 7:15I hope the people that liked it enjoyed it.
- 7:18Hey speak. I'm glad you brought up the
- 7:20video thing because I wanted to before we move on, talk about
- 7:23current events and and this that and the third YouTube.
- 7:27It's been a minute since we plugged the YouTube.
- 7:29Nate, I would, I would greatly appreciate if you could plug
- 7:33what we're doing over there. Yeah, please, just, I mean, it's
- 7:36a big help for us, like it's a big support to be able to just
- 7:40go and subscribe there. Look, it doesn't cost you
- 7:42anything. It's it's it's literally it
- 7:45takes 30 seconds. I can give you that 30 seconds
- 7:48now and chat about something random.
- 7:50If you want to buy time, you're not going to miss anything, but
- 7:53if you're not watching these episodes, you're losing a lot of
- 7:56that too, you know what I mean? There's a lot of stupid faces
- 8:00that I'll make while Casey's making some crazy rant and vice
- 8:04versa. So I'd like for you to go over
- 8:06there, do us a solid, hit that subscribe button.
- 8:11It's free, but it's a massive help for your boy and I'd
- 8:18recommend watching on there. If not, keep listening on that
- 8:22platform that you're using, but just go to YouTube right now and
- 8:25help us out and maybe, you know, do it on your wife's phone or
- 8:28something too. I don't think I realized how
- 8:31many people watch you watch podcasts on YouTube like it's
- 8:35it's a big. Thing I only will like all the
- 8:37podcasts I consume are on YouTube.
- 8:39That's crazy. All right, We'll be like Nate.
- 8:41Watch, watch, watch us on on. YouTube I feel like if if you're
- 8:46the work from home gang JB knows and an extra monitor you're a
- 8:52YouTube person. Just go give us a subscribe
- 8:57that's. That's the move.
- 9:00Let's talk Jose Ramirez extension, shall we?
- 9:04Boy, oh boy, can't me. Oh my.
- 9:07I mean, can we say we're surprised?
- 9:10No. Because this is, I think this
- 9:13was fate, I think Jose Ramirez was destined to be a Cleveland
- 9:17guardian for life. And it is looking to be that way
- 9:21because he has agreed to a contract extension that will
- 9:24keep him in Cleveland through 2032.
- 9:28Already signed through 2028, but he has added four years to that
- 9:32deal. So he will He will be paid
- 9:35175,000,000 over the next seven seasons, with 10 million
- 9:39deferred every year. The deal also includes a no
- 9:43trade clause and bonuses for winishing, winning or finishing
- 9:47in the top five in MVP voting. Which he does all the time.
- 9:52All the guy does. All the time.
- 9:55All the time. Now I got to say, and I'll be
- 10:01very curious to hear your all thoughts, but where my mind
- 10:03immediately goes is the conversation of a Mike Trout.
- 10:07And I'm not I'm not putting them in the same basket necessarily.
- 10:10Both extremely talented baseball players, both for, you know,
- 10:14different reasons, different things they've done on a
- 10:16baseball field. But when you look at the the
- 10:23loyalty to a fault, it makes you wonder.
- 10:28But I have to say, I think I, I thought about it a lot today and
- 10:31I think where I arrived was that I view this differently, one,
- 10:37because it's, we're talking different money.
- 10:39But two, the reason I don't put Jose Ramirez and Mike Trout in
- 10:44the same basket as it relates to loyalty is that Jose Ramirez is
- 10:50playing for a team that has proven that they're capable of
- 10:56doing something in October. Yeah.
- 11:00Mike Trout blindly just signed his name to the TO.
- 11:03He put pen to paper knowing that there was a less than 0 chance
- 11:09that he was going to see October again.
- 11:12Yeah. And that I mean, you, you in a
- 11:14certain, to a certain degree, I still kind of admire it where
- 11:19I'm like, you know what, the guy you, you just don't see star
- 11:22sticking around with the same club anymore for, for their
- 11:25entire career. But it gets to a point where
- 11:30you, you scratch your head a little bit.
- 11:31But I, I don't, I don't, I don't think I'm doing that with Jose
- 11:34Ramirez. The only head scratching I'm
- 11:36doing is just the amount of money that I feel like he's
- 11:39missed out on. But regarding the loyalty, I
- 11:42respect the move Because at the end of the day, Cleveland has at
- 11:45least gotten to the dance. Yeah, I'm kind of torn.
- 11:50Like I was torn when he initially signed that long term
- 11:53deal. And it's more so I think that
- 11:57like he continues to be underrated because of where he's
- 12:01at. And part of me was like, oh,
- 12:05man, I hope that he does get to a team in a city that, like, he
- 12:09can finally be appreciated for the level of production that he
- 12:13throws out there. But now it's like, you know,
- 12:17what? Is he 32?
- 12:20333333. So let's take him to 39 ish.
- 12:26Yeah, dude, it's like, I mean, there's no sense in going
- 12:30anywhere now, you know what I mean?
- 12:31Like might as well finish it out.
- 12:34And I, I we talk about all the time like those, those names,
- 12:38just they mean a little bit something extra.
- 12:41You know, the Todd Hilton's the, the Derek Jeter's The Who was
- 12:46the other name I just saw the other day.
- 12:48It was a Biggio. Like you got like these names
- 12:51that. Anne Bagwell.
- 12:53May not necessarily be all time greats, and I love Jose Ramirez.
- 13:01I think he's going to be probably a Hall of Famer, yeah,
- 13:06but I don't think he's going to be considered as like an all
- 13:10time great. I think he'll probably be fairly
- 13:13forgotten and kind of lost in the mix just because of maybe
- 13:18never really do anything for Cleveland, right?
- 13:20But. I'm going to give you a hold on.
- 13:22I'm going to give you a chance to to walk that back if you
- 13:26choose. No, I'm not.
- 13:27You're not back. He's not going to be an all time
- 13:28great. We're not.
- 13:30I'm not saying all time great, but you're saying you said Jose
- 13:33Ramirez is going to be fairly forgotten?
- 13:37Yeah. I mean, if we're talking, you
- 13:39know, all three of us sitting down with our grandkids someday,
- 13:43I don't know how often Jose Ramirez is going to come to mind
- 13:48with all of the names that we've gotten to witness, right?
- 13:51And I don't, I don't mean to put you on the spot here, but I'm
- 13:54I'm genuinely curious. Is there an example from years
- 14:00ago that you could make that like obviously we would know
- 14:04'cause, you know, we're, we, we enjoy, like, you know, learning
- 14:08more about those players and that kind of thing.
- 14:09But is there a, is there a player that kind of comes to
- 14:12mind just so I can sort of gather where your head's at with
- 14:17it, 'cause I, I can I. I, as you explained it, I think
- 14:21I, I'm able to understand what you're saying a little bit more,
- 14:23but I don't know if there's somebody that comes to mind from
- 14:26that era. How about an Alan Trammell?
- 14:30I think of a higher name than that slightly.
- 14:33I mean, I would. Alan Trammell, 70, WAR player,
- 14:39played with Detroit his entire career.
- 14:41When we looked back now, obviously he was done playing in
- 14:4496. He was at the later days,
- 14:47started in 77. I just looked him up because I
- 14:50thought of him, but it wasn't a guy that I knew about until they
- 14:54started talking about his Hall of Fame case.
- 14:57Yeah, yeah. I mean, I don't know, It's just.
- 15:02I mean, he's going to be a Hall of Famer.
- 15:03There's no, there's no question about that, Hall.
- 15:06Of Famer and I think like that his style of play I don't really
- 15:09see fading too much probably lose some pop after a little bit
- 15:13but like, I don't know I mean I don't I don't think he's going
- 15:17to be in the same breath as like the Miguel Cabreras and the
- 15:20Albert pool horses. And like the names are you're
- 15:23just like these are all time greats.
- 15:26I I think there's tears that I look at it you know where
- 15:29there's like these names that are in the upper echelon of Hall
- 15:33of farmers and then there's these names that are the middle
- 15:36tier of Hall of farmers and it sucks because it's like if
- 15:39you're in the Hall of Fame, you're in the Hall of Fame.
- 15:40That's the upper tier. But yeah, I mean, I don't, I
- 15:47don't know where is he at career wise right now with like, you
- 15:50know, I, I know that there is probably a ton of double SA, ton
- 15:55of stolen bases, ton of home runs.
- 15:58Yeah, 57 war already. Go ahead.
- 16:01Oh, I was going to say, can I throw out and it?
- 16:04Who's to say how how the yeah, who's to say how the careers
- 16:08compare when it's all said and done?
- 16:10But could I interest you in a Scott Rolen?
- 16:13I think, I think he'll be higher than that.
- 16:20It's it's another 70 war player though that's.
- 16:23What I'm saying, I'm not saying statistically, I'm just trying
- 16:25to. I'm trying to.
- 16:26But yeah, like some of those names give a cock for discourse.
- 16:31Yeah. And maybe it's because of where
- 16:33he's playing and where he's going to end up finishing.
- 16:36Maybe it's because of that. Maybe he's, you know, there's
- 16:41your upper upper echelon names where it's like, look,
- 16:44regardless of my fan affiliation, I had to watch this
- 16:50guy play, right? Then you have these names that
- 16:53you run across and then you got to kind of have to drop it down
- 16:56to like the average viewer, right?
- 16:58Is the average viewer dying to catch a Jose Ramirez at bat the
- 17:02same way they're dying to catch, you know, some of these other
- 17:06names. It's it's just I think he's a
- 17:10victim of where he he's playing. I think he's a victim of
- 17:16mediocre post season success and Jeff Bagwell.
- 17:23But I have a ton of respect because I love names that stick
- 17:26around. I love, I love that.
- 17:29He's the same amount of All Star games that Scott Rowland made.
- 17:33Scott Rowland had a Silver Slugger.
- 17:35Jose Ramirez has already had six.
- 17:38Scott Roland finished in the top five in MVP.
- 17:40It looks like once. Josh is always just setting out
- 17:45to make me look like an idiot. I I'm not.
- 17:48I'm this is a good example, but like the same thing with Alan
- 17:51Trammell, he didn't finish in any.
- 17:53This. Is top five.
- 17:55This is like 5 or 6 times. I'm talking purely discourse.
- 17:59I'm not, I'm not talking, I'm not saying statistically, I'm
- 18:03not saying in terms of awards. I'm saying just how like
- 18:07perception, public perception, fan perception, the discourse
- 18:12surrounding said player. I don't like.
- 18:14I was just trying to make sense of.
- 18:17I mean, that's, it's like for different reasons, I'm not, I
- 18:21think the same argument with like, I'm not going to try and
- 18:25pull certain stats or biases or whatever, but like a Todd
- 18:28Hilton, I think that's kind of how it's going to be, you know
- 18:31what I mean? Like it's like, hey, there's a
- 18:34lot of people that did watch him and loved him, rightfully so.
- 18:40But like, if we're going to sit down and have a conversation and
- 18:42like I only have a couple minutes to tell you about all
- 18:45time greats, I don't know if Todd Hilton comes to mind.
- 18:48It's a good point, Josh is. Probably a similar thing when
- 18:51it's all said and done. OK, I I will hear you.
- 18:54I'll hear you on that. Now that you've you've made some
- 18:58comps and you've explained yourself.
- 19:00I've made a question. Like I said, like it's just,
- 19:02it's, it sucks. Well.
- 19:04On, on that, on that note, and and I, I wanted to bring this up
- 19:08at some point on the flip side, people can sit there and, and
- 19:12scratch your heads at, at Cleveland, but it's like, OK,
- 19:18what if, what if he did what everybody is saying like go find
- 19:21a team that gives you a chance to win sort of the same, along
- 19:24the same lines as they did for Trout.
- 19:26It's like, go find a team that you can win a ring.
- 19:29What if he just was like, you know what, I want to go play for
- 19:32the Dodgers. Then what's the narrative
- 19:34surrounding a guy like Jose Ramirez?
- 19:36Here's here's one for you. Here's a better comp maybe and
- 19:39more recent comp would probably be like a Joe Mauer.
- 19:44How do you feel about that? That I think you're getting
- 19:47closer just for the. Yeah, just the.
- 19:52Fact that like. Just the life for.
- 19:54His own team. I'm just, I'm sorry, I'm looking
- 19:57up the baseball references. Jose Ramirez.
- 20:00Let me. Ask you this, He's going to be
- 20:01Can I ask you this? Can I ask you real quick first
- 20:04about the baseball reference? Do we or or any, any site or
- 20:08resource that we have available to us are do do war career war
- 20:14projections are are those a thing like are we able to
- 20:18extrapolate that out or is are we only able to do that with
- 20:21other statistical categories right now?
- 20:24You could, I mean you could, you could just by looking at an
- 20:26average and then that's. What I was going to say, what is
- 20:28the averaging? War.
- 20:29Well, I mean inevitable, you know, tailing off towards the
- 20:33end. I don't know how you would.
- 20:34So Jose Ramirez has already passed up Joe Mauer in war, and
- 20:38he's only if he's only a couple away from Helton.
- 20:41So like it's, it's wild when you think of it that way.
- 20:44What is he at right now? He's at 57.6 WAR and this is
- 20:49what it, this is the kind of brings up the question I, I was
- 20:51going to ask you. I'm looking here.
- 20:55So we're talking third base 57.6.
- 21:02The average Hall of Famer at third base is 68.9.
- 21:05He's getting A10 WAR in these next eight years or or whatever
- 21:10that whatever that contract is, his seven-year peak is already
- 21:14above what the Hall of Farmers are.
- 21:16OK, so his WAR per 162 is 5.8. That for 3rd baseman in the, in
- 21:22the Hall of Fame right now is 5.1.
- 21:25The jaws rating, which we don't need to go into what that is
- 21:27right now is a little bit below. But let me, the question I
- 21:30wanted to ask you is because I, I think it's the same along the
- 21:33same lines as what you're saying, Nate.
- 21:34Do you think, though, when it's all said and done, when his
- 21:39career is over and he's on that last leg and we all take the
- 21:43opportunity to look back at his career, Do you think that
- 21:48regardless of how he was treated and paid attention to during his
- 21:52career, we will all look back at that career differently in
- 21:56hindsight? And we will talk about him.
- 21:59He will be popular because these numbers are he's possibly going
- 22:04to be a 70 WAR player. And we already talked about how
- 22:08guys like Alan Trammell weren't treated correctly.
- 22:11And really, quite frankly, we should be watching.
- 22:14This guy's is at bats. Like that's our fault.
- 22:17Yeah, I'm, yeah, I hand up. I've I've been one of those
- 22:24people to not pay the appropriate amount of attention
- 22:28to Jose Ramirez's career no longer starting in 2026.
- 22:32I like something, you know. Starting this year, from this
- 22:36moment forward, no Mas. I'm a Jose Ramirez fan and I'm
- 22:41going to give him the respect that he's due.
- 22:45Yeah, good, good. Guys.
- 22:50Is he? We're the last six years he's
- 22:52been a top 10 MVP vote at. Least that's insane dude.
- 22:56And really, 6th is it's this nuts dude.
- 23:01Where's Adrian Beltre if we're going to narrow down to 3rd
- 23:04baseman? I like that on the WAR list.
- 23:08He's high, too. Maybe that's a little bit of a
- 23:11better comp. Yeah, he's.
- 23:13But he's like very high and this is a 93.7 war dude.
- 23:18I mean, maybe. He's saying he's averaging
- 23:20roughly between 5:00 and 6:00 WAR a year. 5.8 is his average
- 23:25per 162 and and Adrian Beltre was 5.2.
- 23:30There you go. So he's got what, 6 years left
- 23:32on the steel now? Seven years left.
- 23:34But Beltre broke in a year earlier at 19 and played until
- 23:37he was 39. So yeah, I mean, if Jose Ramirez
- 23:39continues to do this, you're looking at.
- 23:43AI mean he's going to be up there with Ruth I.
- 23:46Don't know about that. I mean, they're going to be
- 23:48talking about him the same way they talk about Babe Ruth.
- 23:52When it's all said and done, I. Don't think that.
- 23:56He's great, good for good for Cleveland.
- 23:59I respect it. I like what I, I, I like it.
- 24:04I'm, I hope it finishes. I hope there's nothing weird.
- 24:10You know the. The guy's still going to make
- 24:14$272 million in his career. He's still.
- 24:17Yeah, but he is. He's been under.
- 24:19As happy. The baseball coach More.
- 24:21Players like that. Stop.
- 24:23Stop. No, that's exact.
- 24:26I underpaid. The owners love you, Josh.
- 24:29The owners are eating everything you're saying up.
- 24:33He, Jose Ramirez has been underpaid his entire career
- 24:37under point blank period. Yeah.
- 24:42Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But Josh is over here.
- 24:45Well, I mean, sound like Garrett Cole at the press conference.
- 24:51I mean two people. Two people signed that contract.
- 24:56If he's happy, he's paid fine. It's an unnecessary Garrett Cole
- 25:02ricochet, but whatever. I mean, on Gee willikers moving
- 25:11on, Mackenzie Gore traded to the Texas Rangers.
- 25:17This was I was another name I was glad to see finally, finally
- 25:23drop in the notice. Who was the other one recently
- 25:26where I was like, I'm glad that finally happened.
- 25:28Oh, Louise Robert. I just feel like it's been a
- 25:31name that we've heard for some time.
- 25:33Like will he get will he get flipped?
- 25:36And I got to be honest with you, I'd I like the Texas Ranger
- 25:39sizzle fit. You know, sometimes you see
- 25:42these trades come through and you're like, I don't know if it
- 25:44really moves in the uniform, but I like, I like Mackenzie Gore's
- 25:46Texas Ranger. I still believe in, in Mackenzie
- 25:49Gore. I know he had a brutal
- 25:51second-half last year, but I'm, I'm still believer.
- 25:58I don't, I don't like that reaction.
- 26:02Nate's not a believer. Why are you not a believer?
- 26:06I I don't, I mean as a full shipload of prospects like I.
- 26:13I'm not. I wasn't even talking about the
- 26:14deal. Yeah, that was that was crazy.
- 26:16Which brings up the Josh, was it you talking about or were we
- 26:20talking about in the group chat about if this is what Mackenzie
- 26:22Gore pulls in? Like, what would a guy like Paul
- 26:24Skeens, what? What kind of Hall would would he
- 26:27bring in? Yeah.
- 26:28Yeah, I mean, I I don't know, this was just crazy.
- 26:32I I think he's good. I think that they like the
- 26:35Rangers rotation has like one of the highest ceilings and it's
- 26:43just like, now who's going to show up, right?
- 26:46Like is lighter for real? Is Rocker going to get it
- 26:49figured out? Is degrom going to like be
- 26:52degrom? Is it ever ever going to reach
- 26:54that threshold again? Is Ivaldi ever going to fall off
- 26:57like so? Nope.
- 26:59I think that there's like a really high ceiling.
- 27:03I like the fit. Maybe we're just saying that
- 27:06like, hey, the Rangers offense last year was just fluky.
- 27:11They cleaned house with a couple names.
- 27:14Let's try and kind of figure it out.
- 27:17But like, I don't know, I'm not that high in the Rangers.
- 27:21I wouldn't be surprised if some of these guys are getting sold
- 27:25next year. Can Josh, can you, can you look
- 27:31into a little bit or maybe you even know like what, what's the
- 27:34return here for the Nationals? Because I know everybody wants
- 27:40to look at, you know, like 5 prospects.
- 27:44But, and I love putting things into, into fantasy baseball
- 27:47terms because it's easy for me to understand.
- 27:49Is this the same thing where you're trading for like a a a
- 27:54promising arm and you're like, hey, I can give you like Spencer
- 27:59Torkelson, friggin, you know, just this.
- 28:05I mean no disrespect to Spencer Torkelson because he actually
- 28:07had a bounce back here, but you know what I mean?
- 28:10Like you're, you're, you're pulling together the.
- 28:13Scraps the That's what I do in fantasy every year.
- 28:16Yeah, and he plays it off as if he's actually savvy.
- 28:20I don't know how he does it but. I pull it off every year, so
- 28:23that's definition of savvy. It's five players I would.
- 28:31I can do that and piss you off. I mean, hey, there's pulling off
- 28:36trades and then there's win in the league.
- 28:38I had one of those. One of those I do a lot more of
- 28:42than the other, but well done. Well done.
- 28:46Anyway, yeah, it's five players. There's two fifth round picks
- 28:49and and two international guys and then their first round pick,
- 28:5212th overall from last year, Gavin Fien.
- 28:55And that's I think the big one. But I mean, he's an 18 year old
- 29:01prospect. He was, he was 12th overall.
- 29:04It feels like. And I think that's the point I
- 29:06was making in the group chat. It feels like quantity over
- 29:09quality here to get 5 players for Mackenzie Gore, which by the
- 29:13way the list of guys that Mackenzie Gore is involved with.
- 29:17Remember, he was traded to the Nationals for Juan Soto and Josh
- 29:23Bell in that ridiculous CJ Abrams, Robert Hassle, James
- 29:28Wood and Mackenzie Gore, plus two more guys.
- 29:31That was a crazy, crazy haul. So like he's been involved in
- 29:35these like ridiculous deals, this one mainly just because
- 29:40it's a 5 for one deal. I don't know.
- 29:42I don't know how ridiculous this will end up being.
- 29:44Those guys are pretty far away. So I it it's really hard to
- 29:49tell, but it has to feel like quantity over quality here.
- 29:51I'm interested. I hope there's a name in there.
- 29:54I hope we look five years down the road and this is a whole
- 29:57Tatis and James Shield trade. Like no offense to Mackenzie
- 30:02Gore, just like I don't. I don't know.
- 30:05I don't. Sounds like a lot of offense,
- 30:06actually. But yeah, that's just me.
- 30:08I. Don't know.
- 30:09I mean, James Shields a pretty solid.
- 30:11Career, right? Better career than three of us.
- 30:14I think Mackenzie Gore finishes up and him and James Shields at
- 30:18the same same career. I think he'd, I think he'd be
- 30:23solid. I think he'd be happy with that.
- 30:24I don't know that he would. I if you're Mackenzie Gore, I
- 30:27think you look around and and see the and see the hype that's
- 30:31surrounded your, albeit early career.
- 30:35It's just, it's crazy. You just, you never know, you
- 30:39could have a hidden gem in there and you couldn't, you know, like
- 30:42no disrespect, he's not going to listen to this.
- 30:47But you know, my buddy Brett that we talked to years ago and
- 30:50interviewed on the podcast years ago, 13th overall pick from the
- 30:54Cardinals. He was the trade that was sent
- 30:59Matt Holiday from the A's to the Cardinals.
- 31:03That was a one for one. He was in the Roy Oswalt and Roy
- 31:06Holiday trade. That was the three-way trade
- 31:08with Houston and. That was a one for one.
- 31:11Yes, him and Matt Holiday. That was a one for one thing.
- 31:13Holy cow, I don't remember that. That's crazy.
- 31:15So it's like, and you know, I love Brett, but like not a
- 31:20household name. You know, you never know what
- 31:24this stuff. It's it's interesting.
- 31:27And then you have the, you know, the name that's like, you know,
- 31:30it pops up five years later and you're like, whoa, superstar.
- 31:33So I, I think that's, I like that it happened.
- 31:36I don't know where this puts the Rangers as far as, you know,
- 31:39their strength in in the farm and how they rank that way.
- 31:44I think it's a good get. I think there's a high ceiling.
- 31:48Maybe you can squeeze something out of them.
- 31:50I'm just kind of confused with the Rangers not know what they
- 31:52are. Dead he like he's got, he's got,
- 31:56I mean, hopefully if assuming things work out the way they
- 31:58should, he's got many years ahead of them.
- 32:01Like it's not like he, he's not a 38 year old where they're
- 32:04trying to, you know, catch a few innings out.
- 32:10I think it's safe to say Mackenzie Gore is entering his
- 32:13prime right now. Again, if things go the way they
- 32:16should. At what point are we like saying
- 32:19that? Like maybe he didn't live up to
- 32:21the name entirely, you know what I mean?
- 32:23Like a valid point. Lucas Giolito was like the belle
- 32:26of the ball and talked about like untouchable, and then
- 32:29finally he gets moved and then it's like he kind of stumbles
- 32:33along for a couple years and then now he's just like a middle
- 32:35rotation guy. It's got a little bit of Andrew
- 32:38Heaney vibes, right? Big name, which moved a lot in,
- 32:41involved in some big trades coming over from the Marlins.
- 32:45Kiki Hernandez was in that. Deal.
- 32:47It ends up being more depth than than frontline, that's all.
- 32:51Nate, I will trade you. You were.
- 32:53Wrong. Because I hope he, I hope he
- 32:54ends up good. He's looked really good in in
- 32:57certain stretches. I just want to see a full
- 32:59season. Nate, I will trade you Anthony
- 33:02Volpe, Jordan Romano and Connor Wong for Tarek Scubble.
- 33:08No deal. See, The thing is, you laughed.
- 33:14Josh, he, he would pull off a trade like that and he would
- 33:18have a justification for it and he would gaslight you into
- 33:21thinking, oh, shoot, Nate just kind of got, he just kind of got
- 33:26fleeced, to be honest with you, like Jordan Romano.
- 33:29Like, did he really? Just I would I would talk down
- 33:32school at that point if I. Got It's insane.
- 33:35I don't know how he does it. Guy's a salesman at heart.
- 33:40Can't, can't ever change. It's insane.
- 33:42By the way, the the Matt Holiday trade was a three for one.
- 33:47Brett went along with Shane Peterson and Clayton Mortenson.
- 33:51Cool, there you go. Sorry.
- 33:55He was in that Royals well and Roy Holiday 1/2 I think.
- 33:59I don't, I don't know how that worked, but there's like a
- 34:01potentially a three-way trade back in the day.
- 34:05And so Nate, don't feel bad. He's gotten me a handful of
- 34:09times. It's funny when we I think our
- 34:11idea when we brought Josh on was like it.
- 34:13Was not Fact Check us we. No, no, that was the idea was
- 34:17the Fact Check us. And now that he's doing it, it's
- 34:20like, all right, guy, like let it, let us breathe a little bit.
- 34:27We don't. We don't know.
- 34:28He was the headliner of that trade, OK.
- 34:30We don't know at all, yeah. He certainly was.
- 34:33Yeah, yeah. All right.
- 34:34Yeah. He was also traded for Michael
- 34:36Taylor. Man, I'm on your side.
- 34:40Well, that's a good question. No, no, Michael Taylor, I've.
- 34:44Never heard of him, I only know. What was?
- 34:47Anthony goes. The the Michael Taylor, Michael
- 34:52A Nate, I'm on your side here. Thanks, dude.
- 34:57Harrison Bader. Oh, Harrison.
- 35:01Love you. Harrison Bader.
- 35:03Oh brother, this. Guy.
- 35:06Stinks. That was to Josh, not Harrison
- 35:09Bader. No, I'm just kidding.
- 35:11I'm kidding. I'm kidding.
- 35:11I'm kidding, I'm kidding. No, I'm kidding.
- 35:13No, I nothing against Harrison Bader. 2 year, 20 and a half,
- 35:18$1,000,000 deal with the Giants. Presumably we'll be there
- 35:22everyday. Center fielder.
- 35:24Does this move Jung Huli to right?
- 35:26I was reading. Seems as though that'll be the
- 35:29case. Why?
- 35:34Why not? Wasn't he better?
- 35:36Feel like he's a better center fielder.
- 35:38Than Harrison Bader. There's some guys, not many guys
- 35:41better than Harrison Bader. Yeah, Harrison Bader's nails in
- 35:44the outfield I. Don't know, Jung Huli looks
- 35:47really good. Is this in like a preserve the
- 35:50body kind of thing 'cause there's some injuries?
- 35:52The grandson of the wind dude. What in the dude balled out.
- 35:58Hold on, Josh. Don't tell me you don't know.
- 36:00You don't know who Grandson of the Wind is, Uh.
- 36:03Oh no. It's from Pocahontas.
- 36:09No, it's. Jung Hu Lee.
- 36:10That's his that's that's his nickname.
- 36:13How have oh nickname? Are you guys just finding this
- 36:16out for the first time? 100%.
- 36:18Wow. Yeah, Grant's Under the Wind.
- 36:20Jung Hu Lee. Yeah, by outs above average
- 36:24standard last year Nate -5 for Jung Hu Lee positive 792nd
- 36:33percentile. I thought that was the whole
- 36:35big. Point the arm is very good,
- 36:37which will play really well in right field and coming over he
- 36:40was defensively, he was looked at as good it it just didn't go
- 36:44as well. That wind came to a screeching
- 36:47halt at TSA at LAX. But he'd never felt the San
- 36:50Francisco win before. Yeah, I'm sorry.
- 36:52That was that was unnecessary. That was that's that's let's.
- 36:56Walk that back a bit. Harrison Vader has has
- 37:00consistently been one of the one of the top dogs in the outfield.
- 37:05No, I get it. I love Vader.
- 37:06He's a, he's a good vibes guy. Who's the who's the young kid
- 37:10over over there That's just the funniest, weirdest clubhouse guy
- 37:14ever in San Francisco, I think. Yeah, I think he was a rookie
- 37:19last year. Just a full on weirdo.
- 37:21He's always miked up, always messing with people.
- 37:26In the outfield. I don't know.
- 37:28I think he's an infielder. I'm not sure you say the name.
- 37:33I'm going to remember it. Bryce Eldridge.
- 37:36Yeah. Big tall guy.
- 37:38No. No.
- 37:39Short guy. As a local, as a local boy,
- 37:41that's the local boy out here. He's going to be.
- 37:45He's going to be. I don't know, I feel like him
- 37:47and him and him and Bader are going to be homies.
- 37:51It's a fun. That sounds like a fun
- 37:52clubhouse. No, I got to figure this out.
- 37:54It's Gerald Tyler Fitzgerald. No, this is going to bother me
- 37:59now. Yeah.
- 38:01Let's all look it up. Hayden Bird Something drew.
- 38:05Gilbert, yes, Drew Gilbert Dude, look up Drew Gilbert stuff on
- 38:10social media. The guy's hilarious, constantly
- 38:13messing with dudes, super funny, keeps it real light all the time
- 38:18and they kept Vader's like a vibes guy.
- 38:21Vader's just a fan favorite wherever he goes, and it's
- 38:26random clutch home runs. He's very clutch player.
- 38:30Super good defensively, I like him.
- 38:35Oh, wait a minute, was Drew Gilbert the same?
- 38:41That was the same guy, if you remember.
- 38:44I completely forgot about this. He played for Tennessee.
- 38:49Do you remember seeing the video of the kid pimp in the home run?
- 38:53And then hold on, let me he stands there and watched it and
- 39:03then just launches the bat. Oh, I thought this was the one
- 39:07with the umpire. Like push him along, push him
- 39:10along. That was a different one.
- 39:11But he has. He has.
- 39:13No, this if pretty. Where did he go?
- 39:16Where did he go? To Tennessee?
- 39:17Yeah. It's like any funny college
- 39:20video that you've seen. It's like that type of guy has
- 39:24now made it to well, that's leagues and has like kept that
- 39:27same like clubhouse like just fun random stuff.
- 39:33He's hilarious. That's the Tony V era too at
- 39:35Tennessee. Yeah, yeah.
- 39:37Which I'm sure fed into it probably.
- 39:41I like what's going on out there.
- 39:43I'm, I'm starting to, I'm starting to lock in a little bit
- 39:48more. I kind of like San Francisco
- 39:52kind of like it. Loose Let's just go have fun,
- 39:56win some games. Keeping it in the NL W you,
- 39:59Darvish. Kind of a weird situation.
- 40:02What's going on there? So apparently there was a port.
- 40:06Let me see here timeline wise about I'm reading here.
- 40:11A month and 1/2 after his surgery, Darvish said he wasn't
- 40:16sure if he'd be able to pitch again.
- 40:18And then this past weekend, there was a report that
- 40:21indicated that Darvish had informed the team of his
- 40:25intention to retire, of his intention to retire And then put
- 40:32out something on social, which I saw, 'cause I, I keep seeing all
- 40:34this, you Darvish breaking retiring graphics.
- 40:38I'm like, oh Dang, crazy. Wow that he waited till almost
- 40:43February. And then he comes out with a
- 40:46post on on Instagram and says, you may have seen an article.
- 40:50And although I'm leaning towards voiding the contract, there's
- 40:53still a lot that has to be talked over with the Padres.
- 40:55So the finer details are yet to be decided.
- 40:58Also, I will not be announcing my my retirement yet.
- 41:01Right now I'm fully focused on my rehab for my elbow.
- 41:04And if I get to a point where I can throw again, I will start
- 41:07from scratch again to compete. If I if once I get to that
- 41:10point, I feel I can't do that, I will announce my retirement.
- 41:19I don't know how much I care about this.
- 41:25You Darvish. I'm I'm all done.
- 41:27Good career. You have the ability, Nate, when
- 41:30I send over the list to like, I don't, I don't care to really
- 41:34talk about that and I can take it off the list.
- 41:36You knew that coming into this. You knew this was on the list of
- 41:39things I wanted to wrap up at the end.
- 41:41I know I thought I cared. I really don't.
- 41:43As you were reading this story, I cared less.
- 41:45I. Fair.
- 41:49I'm just all done with you, Darvish.
- 41:51The are you hurt? Are you not hurt?
- 41:52How many innings are you going to give us?
- 41:54Can't wait till he comes back. Is he going to save the
- 41:56rotation? Is he going to come back in the
- 41:57bullpen or is he going to hop back in the rotation?
- 41:59How many innings are we going to get out of him?
- 42:00Did he find a new pitch? Like I'm like?
- 42:02I'm done. I'm all done.
- 42:05That when you get that from Nate, you're you're toast.
- 42:08In his book. When you get the I'm all done,
- 42:12All done, it's over. All done, All done.
- 42:18All done with. With the Padres, like now all.
- 42:20Hold on with the Padres. What are the Yeah dude, how is
- 42:23this their fault? All of these contracts are
- 42:25starting to smell all of these bad contracts.
- 42:28Starting to smell. We knew these contracts were bad
- 42:32when they were signed. We knew that they were going to
- 42:34smell. Now they're smelling.
- 42:36I smell them. I can smell.
- 42:38What do they smell like? Probably like, you know, if I
- 42:46walked home then it was 115° and you know, my Gooch was a little
- 42:53steady. OK, OK.
- 42:56You asked something like that. You asked.
- 43:01We don't. That's what it's starting to
- 43:02smell like out there in San. Diego, we don't.
- 43:04No, we don't. We don't need to hear.
- 43:13We don't need to hear about sweaty Gooch the Gooch.
- 43:17We don't Sweaty. Gooch.
- 43:20Look, you're making Josh blush. You're embarrassing him talking
- 43:23about this kind of nonsense, this kind of filth on this show.
- 43:26This is a family program. What other smell can you think
- 43:29of? I mean, I could have gone a
- 43:31million other different ways before arriving at that.
- 43:35I don't think that would have been as accurate.
- 43:36That was crazy. That's definitely getting
- 43:38clipped for the three O take no context Twitter account.
- 43:43You can you can guarantee it. That's getting that's getting
- 43:48clipped. Little plug for that.
- 43:50By the way, if you if you're if you're a fan of the show, if
- 43:53you're a fan of the program and you're looking for some good,
- 43:56you know, occasional entertainment, head on over to
- 44:03what is it? Hold on, let me pull it up.
- 44:07Believe the first clip on there is.
- 44:08I'm a big Peter guy, yeah. One of the first clips on there
- 44:11was I'm a big Peter guy. It's no context.
- 44:18That's up there. Shout out Andrew recent recently
- 44:23made account. It's called No context 30 take
- 44:28at no context 30 take on Twitter or X.
- 44:32It's a it's a great it's a great account.
- 44:35I love it. I love it dearly.
- 44:38OK, so you Darvish. Sweat a Gooch.
- 44:41Throw that in the garbage can, I guess.
- 44:43No disrespect. Let me ask you this.
- 44:46You care more about this the fact that Aaron Judge known
- 44:52known failure in October. Take that back.
- 45:01I don't think I will. How do you feel about him
- 45:05gracing the cover of And It'll Be The Show?
- 45:09I was surprised. I'm actually I think the graphic
- 45:13with him in the USA jersey looks a little weird.
- 45:15It's like a little distorted and I can't figure out why.
- 45:17It looks funky to me. Are you saying it's AI slop?
- 45:20Is that what you're? Are you accusing?
- 45:22It will be the. Slop.
- 45:22I don't know the angle of it is head.
- 45:25I can't quite figure out why it just looks slightly off.
- 45:30Slightly off. I knew MLB The Show was up to
- 45:32something because they tweeted. I was like, I think the the day
- 45:36before they were like, we will not be coming out with a new
- 45:39cover athlete. And everybody's like, OK, let's
- 45:40go back and look at the athletes that they've already had because
- 45:43that's what obviously what it means.
- 45:44And sure enough, it's Aaron Judge because he was on 18, I
- 45:48think. Yeah, which was.
- 45:51Pre pre peak in my mind so I'm glad there's a return here.
- 45:56Yeah. And then?
- 45:57The first one, right? That movie.
- 45:59The show hasn't done that before.
- 46:01First, repeat. Repeat.
- 46:04Why do I feel like there was somebody else?
- 46:08I don't think they've ever done it.
- 46:10It wasn't Mauer. Mauer was on there just once.
- 46:16Was it really? Wow.
- 46:20Yeah. Then 19 was our sweet young
- 46:21Prince, which by the way, that you go back and look at that
- 46:24cover slop, that was before they had the ability to, I think,
- 46:30successfully pull off a jersey swap.
- 46:32Because if you remember, he was named the cover athlete, but
- 46:35they didn't know who he was going to play for because that's
- 46:38prior to him signing his contract.
- 46:41And if you look at that, Phillies uniform could not be
- 46:45more computer generated, the worst cover they've come out
- 46:51with in the franchise. Oh, that is bad.
- 46:53That is bad. So bad.
- 46:55Yeah, forgot about that one. Awful.
- 46:59But yeah, by the way, you nailed that.
- 47:01Joe Mauer, MLB The Show, 10 and 11.
- 47:04Bam. Back-to-back years.
- 47:05How about that pull? Granted I said it wasn't him so
- 47:08I guess I'm technically wrong, but it was the name of mind.
- 47:11It was the name of the credit. They wow back-to-back years.
- 47:15Yeah. Dude back then MLB the Show did
- 47:19not have the respect. I loved it back then.
- 47:23The first I had the I think it was O 7, maybe O 5, something
- 47:31like that. What kind of I thought I thought
- 47:33they started O 6. David Wright I think was on a
- 47:37cover back then. I thought they started O 6
- 47:45because then they take the torch from like the MVP series because
- 47:48MVP fell off. Yeah, they ended it.
- 47:50And then I think MV MLB The Show took over and I think it was O
- 47:536. Do you see what I'm saying about
- 47:55the Judge USA? Oh, let me pull that up.
- 48:01So it was. It was MLB.
- 48:03It wasn't. Just MLB.
- 48:04It wasn't until O. Six.
- 48:05Yeah, it was MLB. They were, they were 98 is when
- 48:09they started doing. MLB.
- 48:11It was just MLB 98 and then in ML, in MLBO 6 they started
- 48:16calling it The Show and it was Big Poppy.
- 48:20Well, the Nate to your point, the USA that's, that's a
- 48:23Photoshop obviously because he hasn't, he hasn't debuted those
- 48:273. No, but his body like looks too
- 48:28small compared to the size of his head.
- 48:30I don't know, just a small gripe.
- 48:34Small. Understood.
- 48:34Understood. That's all I got.
- 48:36I love that. I love the nod to WBC. 100%
- 48:40that's huge. I think that they're like, yeah,
- 48:45'cause they're going to have like these patches and I mean, I
- 48:49don't know, we were talking about it off air.
- 48:51It's like really helped maybe added to the the card element,
- 48:58you know, over these last few years, like MLB The Show is like
- 49:01really like dude, they're dive in on that.
- 49:03You know, I like it. They're.
- 49:05I, I think we can safely say that by going head first into
- 49:09the WBC element here with MLB The Show, we can safely say that
- 49:13that is now fully mainstream. If the, if there was any
- 49:16question, I think having, yeah, having the WBC as a, as an
- 49:21element to MLB The Show now that's dude, this thing is going
- 49:25to continue to blow up like this is.
- 49:28And I can, I obviously I would have no way of knowing, but I
- 49:31was thinking about this like today or yesterday.
- 49:34I think we're getting to that point of this of the year where
- 49:37players who opted not to play for whatever reason are going to
- 49:41start getting real FOMO. Yeah, I, I think what's crazy is
- 49:49that it's probably not even credit to the US team.
- 49:54It's probably more credit to the Japan team because you see all
- 49:58of these names that have come after they won the last one, You
- 50:04know, like all the hype around Yamamoto, now he's here, now
- 50:08he's dicing Sasaki. It's just sick.
- 50:14Like it's, that's so cool. That's God.
- 50:17I can't wait to be there dude. I'm excited.
- 50:19It's. Going to be great.
- 50:20It's going to be great. I'm excited.
- 50:22You know what else is going to be great?
- 50:24Murray's Question of the Week. Murray's question of the Week.
- 50:29Murray wants to know this week which year and team is was your
- 50:38favorite example. His was the 2017 Dodgers.
- 50:42Known Dodgers fanatic. He's going 2017 Dodgers.
- 50:55For the sake of air, I would imagine this has to be like your
- 51:01favorite team. And then you know you're not
- 51:03going to just oh, my Yankees fan.
- 51:05But it was this team for it was the IT was the such and such
- 51:10Kansas City Royals. That was my favorite.
- 51:12Man, I love. Do that right.
- 51:14I love the O7 Diamondbacks. You know.
- 51:22Yeah, I mean that could be a fun way to answer.
- 51:24It is like your non team's. Favorite team?
- 51:26Yeah, let's do that. I like that.
- 51:28Oh. But you said O 7 dude.
- 51:31I honestly the O 7 Rockies was probably the most fun of
- 51:36watching like non Yankee baseball that I've ever had
- 51:39being. How did?
- 51:41Because this is my first year in Colorado and that was the the
- 51:45game 163 Matt Holiday, you know, sliding in the home.
- 51:50I mean, Todd Hilton was still there.
- 51:53I, you know, Tulo was like, I was at games and like the entire
- 51:58stadium's chanting a rookie's name.
- 52:00Like to me, that blew my mind. Cargoes on that team like that.
- 52:05That team was just like. It got swept in the World
- 52:08Series, four games and none. Well, they had two weeks off
- 52:13before they played, but I was at that.
- 52:16I was at that NLDS game. They played played against the
- 52:20Phillies where the lights went out.
- 52:22Remember that when the lights of the whole stadium went dark and
- 52:24then they were losing by like 3 and then they came back on and
- 52:27won? Yeah, that team I had a lot of
- 52:31fun watching. That's fair.
- 52:37Non favorite team probably. Send me the question early so I
- 52:45can think about it and then throw a curveball last minute.
- 52:50Well, I mean, you got it. No, I, I sent you guys the
- 52:53question so you could think about it, but we're just adding
- 52:55a slight twist. That's all.
- 52:56I didn't read it. I didn't read any of this.
- 52:58That's why I was surprised. Whether you Darvish the.
- 53:01Yeah, see, so my answer was. Now you people, now you people
- 53:04not why I say now people have known.
- 53:06You see what I have to put up with with this guy, but I do it
- 53:10anyway. Now that Josh is here, it's way
- 53:12worse too. Oh my gosh, yeah.
- 53:15When Nate found out that Josh was joining the show, he's like,
- 53:18now I dude, I don't have to No, I was kidding my.
- 53:23Answer was going to be the 2013 2013 Pirates team.
- 53:28OK. That's your, you know what I'm
- 53:30saying? What?
- 53:31Oh, oh, oh, was going to be your answer.
- 53:33I was like because. That's what you're saying.
- 53:34Like, I mean, I even thought about it.
- 53:36But that team there was all three of those years was fun.
- 53:42Go ahead. Come on, man.
- 53:44Cueto. It's peak.
- 53:50No, it was just, I mean, obviously Kutch went an MVP and
- 53:53and all those years of losing and coming out of it, that was.
- 53:58Man that summer. That summer was.
- 54:00Another MLB The Show cover athlete?
- 54:02Yeah. That's right, Kutch. 3rd That
- 54:04MVP was 13. That's ridiculous.
- 54:07What that's? Ridiculous to say out loud.
- 54:11I would probably have to say, I mean, not spending hours
- 54:16thinking about it. I feel like my first reaction
- 54:18would be the 19 nationals, that World Series team.
- 54:20Yeah, that team. Dude, I, I, if you've, if you've
- 54:25listened to me, if you know me, you know that I love when a team
- 54:27has a thing. They had so many.
- 54:29Things like the baby that like really early in that.
- 54:32The team of Destiny. Oh yeah, yeah, I I could see it
- 54:36from a mile away, 'cause they like that group.
- 54:38You looked at that group and you're like, the fact that
- 54:40they're even here is unbelievable.
- 54:44And I, I you could just see the pieces starting to fall into
- 54:48place. And with every series of pass,
- 54:49you're like, OK, you get past the Dodgers.
- 54:52You, I mean, you end up, yeah, when I when that thing went
- 54:56seven against Houston, I was like, put all of your money on
- 55:00the Nationals. There is no way they're not
- 55:02winning this thing. And that was a fun thing to
- 55:04watch. I was at that wild card game.
- 55:06If you remember that ball that Soto hit out to Trent Grisham
- 55:11and he, he slipped, yeah, he slipped and it rolled to the
- 55:14fence. That place came unglued.
- 55:17That was fun to watch. And seeing Zimmerman finally,
- 55:22you know, get his time after kind of sort of front of the pod
- 55:29local. He's he's not too far from where
- 55:32I work. But yeah, that was that was a
- 55:36fun group. All right.
- 55:38Well I mean, favorite team I guess it's the easy one Be the
- 55:4209 Yankees. For me it's just like my first
- 55:46time being like fully grown and aware.
- 55:52That team was freaking stacked. If we're going favorite team, I
- 55:57would say 13 socks. Really. 13, yeah, I wouldn't
- 56:02expect to that. Yeah, I mean, 18 at that point,
- 56:05I wasn't watching every single game. 18 I watched every game
- 56:08that year yeah but the 13 bunch man, I mean. 13 probably still
- 56:14had like your classic guys that you grew up with that.
- 56:16Yeah. Pedroia, Poppy.
- 56:19Yeah. Friend of the pod Brandon
- 56:20Snyder, local hero, also made an appearance that year.
- 56:24He ended up getting a ring for that, by the way.
- 56:26He yeah, he had, he had a couple games with them that year.
- 56:30So yeah, that that was just a a perfect storm of so many things.
- 56:35I remember I could take you to the spot where I was when Poppy
- 56:38hit that that home run against the Tigers off Benoit, the one
- 56:42where Tori Hunter flipped over the fence.
- 56:45Yeah, that, that was one of my favorite.
- 56:49In the security guard, the bullpen, bullpen cop.
- 56:55So for my non pirates. There you go, we bought you some
- 57:00time. Yeah, bought me some time.
- 57:01I'm going to go 97 Mariners and I'm probably going to hear about
- 57:07that later. You're dating yourself.
- 57:08Hey, that's you. You said it, not us.
- 57:10Listen, I'm a kid. I got Ken Griffith, junior Jay
- 57:15Buhner, Edgar Martinez, that whole group.
- 57:19The. Dan Wilson.
- 57:21Dan Wilson. That's the Edgar walk off down
- 57:25the left field line. Griffey scores from first.
- 57:27Griffey scores from first. Walk off the Yankees.
- 57:30Randy Johnson. Jamie Moyer, like a lot of that.
- 57:35That was a really, that was a really cool team.
- 57:37Joey Cora. Did you know that at the time,
- 57:42I'll probably botch this step, but did you know that at the
- 57:45time of his retirement, I think Jamie Moyer had struck out like
- 57:489% of all of all time? That's cool.
- 57:55That was Griffey's MVP season 2 so that's I mean if it's not
- 58:00been said on here, Griffey's all time favorite player for me so.
- 58:04I don't know that I knew that about you, actually.
- 58:05Yeah, all time. Remember we were talking before
- 58:08I told you that whole stack of oh right, Griffey cards.
- 58:11It kind of checks out. But yeah, we actually just got
- 58:14new Griffey shirts for our kids because they'll keep doing it.
- 58:20Not that they already had the bubble gum one.
- 58:21This is a new one. It's the Sweet Swings cans.
- 58:24Oh yeah, I saw. That yeah, with the bad.
- 58:27Shoes. I those.
- 58:30Are hard to find. Saw them in the mall in Atlanta.
- 58:33When I was there, when I was playing, I never went a year
- 58:36without buying the new Griffey's, the the Griffey
- 58:39cleats and I can't wear Nikes. I didn't care.
- 58:43Like Nikes are too narrow for me.
- 58:45And I was like, don't care wearing the Griffey's.
- 58:49You're such a Midwesterner. Feet are too wide for Nikes.
- 58:54Dude, there was one. I can't.
- 58:55Explain it, man. It's just, it's a Midwestern
- 58:57thing. I don't know why it is, but it
- 58:59is. I wore the Poppy Reeboks one
- 59:02year and I said never again. I can't I.
- 59:04Remember that, I remember that. I was like, this is my guy, but
- 59:08I can't never again. Yeah, those things were.
- 59:12Didn't they have the flap? The tongue flap?
- 59:16Those were tough. Maybe the tongue flap cleat
- 59:19days? When I think tongue flap I think
- 59:22Ripken for sure with the orange orange swoosh on them.
- 59:26Yeah, those were sick. Those were sick.
- 59:29Yeah, majority of the tongue flap cleats were not.
- 59:33Yeah. I'm, I'm such an old head when
- 59:37it comes to this, but I, I still think black cleats are just, I
- 59:42mean, I, I totally get why we've ventured away from that, but
- 59:45like when you see a black cleat. I love the white cleats.
- 59:49I love the white cleats. Talk about like another fun
- 59:53team. Like I like those.
- 59:55Like the Eric Chavez A's. 2 Early 2000A's.
- 59:59Yeah, dude, like those were fun. Not like not.
- 1:00:02Because the white vaults. But like, I love the white
- 1:00:05cleats, I thought they look so good and they were like the only
- 1:00:08team that did them back then. I don't know why they got away
- 1:00:11from that. Well.
- 1:00:13They all wear their own cleats now, you know what I mean?
- 1:00:15There's there's no not many teams who are all wearing the
- 1:00:18same color. Which is a whole other thing
- 1:00:21that a whole other can of worms that I'm like, can we just wear
- 1:00:25it? Like guys don't even wear that.
- 1:00:28I don't we we don't need to go down the trap hole, but guys
- 1:00:30don't even wear the same belts anymore.
- 1:00:33Like, I don't know, I don't know if you've noticed that like
- 1:00:35different colors, different styles.
- 1:00:38Personalized. I've seen Chrome belts.
- 1:00:41Oh yeah. I've seen metallic belts,
- 1:00:43personalized belts embroidered. Belts.
- 1:00:45Where's like the diamond studded belt?
- 1:00:48Diamond Studded. Belts.
- 1:00:49I mean at what point is have have we dog?
- 1:00:52Collar. It's crazy.
- 1:00:53At what point have we gone too far, you know?
- 1:00:55Guys don't even wear the same color sliding.
- 1:00:59I couldn't even do the whole thing.
- 1:01:00Like, dude, the the accessories in the game right now are just
- 1:01:05and, and love them or hate them, but they're they are.
- 1:01:09They're just all over the place. I couldn't believe that the
- 1:01:11Yankees were letting Jazz Chisholm wear purple.
- 1:01:15I know. That's the one color I can't get
- 1:01:17behind. I'm like, unless you play for
- 1:01:19the Rockies or. Old school Diamondback throwback
- 1:01:23uni. True.
- 1:01:23Yeah, yeah. Rockets or D backs?
- 1:01:25Like what are we doing? Yeah.
- 1:01:28I don't know anyway. Anyway.
- 1:01:31That's Murray's question of the week.
- 1:01:34Good job, Murray. Josh, let's put you on the spot.
- 1:01:37But do we have trivia? We do have trivia.
- 1:01:39Hey, we do have trivia and it is it is based around you dartfish.
- 1:01:47Oh my goodness. Freaking knew it.
- 1:01:49I said I was dumb. I thought about as soon as you
- 1:01:53said I don't care, well, you could not care about the
- 1:01:55situation, but you know, I always try to do something that
- 1:01:57has something to do with it. You Darvish was one that I I
- 1:02:00figured this would be an easy one.
- 1:02:02Came over here second fastest player to 2000 strikeouts.
- 1:02:08So, you know, that's that's something.
- 1:02:11Yeah, but but Nate's all done with him, so.
- 1:02:13He's all well, he's all done with maybe the situation.
- 1:02:16I, I think if I think if he's all done with him, then we can
- 1:02:19just write him his card and tell him happy retirement and talk
- 1:02:22about what he accomplished in his career. 297 starts, 1778
- 1:02:29innings, 2075 strikeouts. So I'm going to just go off of
- 1:02:33that real quick because what I'm going to look at here is by
- 1:02:37innings pitched quickest to 2000 strikeouts.
- 1:02:40And I got to tell you, I had a hard time actually finding this
- 1:02:44stat down to AT I'm trying all different kinds of tools.
- 1:02:48So I ended up with if the if somebody wants to call out the
- 1:02:51show because I got something wrong, then we can do that.
- 1:02:55But I'm going with screwball. I don't know if you're familiar
- 1:02:57with screwball. It is a.
- 1:02:59It is a peanut. Butter whiskey.
- 1:03:03Nope, this is a website. What are you talking about?
- 1:03:06Screwball dot AI it is a it is a a module that you can that you
- 1:03:12can look up baseball stats, just very hard to do AI sucks at it.
- 1:03:16This page is more specific. It just understanding what
- 1:03:20you're asking and then just looking up the stats.
- 1:03:22If anyone challenges you all, fight them.
- 1:03:24No, it's it's fine. And if you've got a better way
- 1:03:27to do. It where's my, where do I?
- 1:03:28I don't get that kind of support.
- 1:03:33So all we're looking for here? Fantasy.
- 1:03:35I bring stuff to the table and he's like, I don't care, let's
- 1:03:38move on. All we're looking for here is
- 1:03:40pitchers to reach 2000 strikeouts in under 2000 innings
- 1:03:45pitched. So.
- 1:03:46Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander. Hold on, hold on.
- 1:03:49What I have here, What I have here is the end of.
- 1:03:54Keisha Phillips. I don't know why it's the end of
- 1:03:57the game, but it's the end of the game.
- 1:04:00There is. I probably shouldn't.
- 1:04:02There's 10 more guys on this list along with you, Darvish,
- 1:04:07and it is. It is 2000 strikeouts in under
- 1:04:112000 innings, so you got 10 guys to guess.
- 1:04:16In addition to Darvish. So there's ten that we have to
- 1:04:18guess. There's 10 to guess.
- 1:04:20There is 11 total. Including Darvish.
- 1:04:24Including Darvish. So I've already obviously given
- 1:04:26up Darvish. Let's see if we can get him.
- 1:04:28And really, they're not there is there is one that's hard and a
- 1:04:32matter of fact, I'm going to give you 1.
- 1:04:34No, don't give us one, OK? No, don't give it to us.
- 1:04:39I won't. Where does Darvish and?
- 1:04:41Darvish is number 2. #2 You said OK.
- 1:04:43Yeah, he's the second fastest. There is a current player right
- 1:04:46now who is who has this record. And I, I mean, I remembered this
- 1:04:52so. All right, I'm going to break
- 1:04:54out my handy dandy whiteboard. Yeah, let's do it.
- 1:04:58We've got, we've got 10 names on the list.
- 1:05:00A couple of them are older, but you will get one of them.
- 1:05:04There's no shot. Actually, three of them are a
- 1:05:07little bit. Let's just go.
- 1:05:09You guys can get the list. All right.
- 1:05:11Verlander. Not on the list.
- 1:05:13Sick. Off to hot start.
- 1:05:16It's a great start. Verlander, by the way, I think
- 1:05:20he was right around 2160. Kershaw.
- 1:05:24Kershaw is #7 on the list. All right.
- 1:05:27Garrett Cole. Garrett Cole is #4 on the list.
- 1:05:31This guy sucks on the list guy. Yeah, yeah, but what does this
- 1:05:35list matter? How old are we going here, do
- 1:05:38you think? It's probably that name that he
- 1:05:41said is impossible. No.
- 1:05:44Well, no, there's one there's. Some oldies.
- 1:05:48There's an older one, but it's, it's one that I, it's one that's
- 1:05:50reachable. You guys can probably get there.
- 1:05:55And, and I, I mean, I can tell you it's in the 60s.
- 1:05:58There's one in the 60s, two in the 70s.
- 1:06:00Bob Gibson. That was where my mind went.
- 1:06:04No. Come on.
- 1:06:07Nolan Ryan. Nolan Ryan is number 8 on the
- 1:06:10list. He's one of the ones in the 70s.
- 1:06:16Randy Johnson. Randy Johnson is #5?
- 1:06:28What give us this hint? What is the old?
- 1:06:31Did you? Or unless you already said it,
- 1:06:32what's the old or like the furthest back?
- 1:06:35That is it. The one in the 60s is the
- 1:06:36furthest. Back.
- 1:06:37It's the guy we'll never get. No, there's one guy that's 1971.
- 1:06:42You won't get him if you get him.
- 1:06:45I mean, I've never heard of him. This is 2000 strikeouts, you
- 1:06:47said? 2000 strikeouts in under 2000
- 1:06:50innings. Did you?
- 1:06:53Go Sandy Koufax. I I was Sandy Koufax.
- 1:06:55About that, that's the oldest one.
- 1:06:57Yes, that 1965 he's #9 on the list.
- 1:07:00Wait, that's the guy you didn't think we'd get?
- 1:07:02No. That's the one in the 60s that I
- 1:07:04thought you would get. There's a guy in 1971 who's
- 1:07:07number 10 on the list that you likely will not get.
- 1:07:10Oil Can Boyd. He's I don't see him.
- 1:07:14I'm just kidding, you said Koufax was 9.
- 1:07:16Koufax was 9. What are our slots that are
- 1:07:19open? We need 1310 and 11:00 and 6:00.
- 1:07:22Sorry, 136. You said one is active.
- 1:07:26One is active. 6 like the number.
- 1:07:29One active. Active.
- 1:07:31Scherzer that is the number six guy.
- 1:07:34Yes #11 I don't think so. Yeah, I, you know what?
- 1:07:42I think that's number 11. May or may not be.
- 1:07:48Paul Skeens after next year. Yes.
- 1:07:51No, he was not active. That number 11 was not active in
- 1:07:5820250. That's right.
- 1:08:01Yeah, man, sometimes you just blank.
- 1:08:07Juan Mershal. Juan Mershal, Fernando
- 1:08:10Valenzuela. No, I'm, I'm looking for some of
- 1:08:20the names you have. You have brought up Clemens.
- 1:08:25You said that before we started. Roger Clemens #22 was not under
- 1:08:292000 innings. He had a little bit of a slow
- 1:08:31start. Well.
- 1:08:32That's kind of what I was thinking too.
- 1:08:33I. Mean that.
- 1:08:35Like Toronto boss 20. Strikeout games on his rookie
- 1:08:37season. Pedro Martinez.
- 1:08:41Pedro Martinez #3. Bam.
- 1:08:43Nice, nice. So all we got left is 1 and 11.
- 1:08:48No 1:10 and 11:00. And 10's you're not getting 10.
- 1:08:52Do you say 1 is active? One is active the heck dude, and
- 1:08:57I mean it. It hasn't been that long since
- 1:09:00he got to this point. He was the at the time, well,
- 1:09:03obviously at the time, but we. Said Verlander.
- 1:09:06We said. Verlander's number 21 was not
- 1:09:09there. Yeah, what he's saying is that
- 1:09:12he just got there. Oh right, two in my head.
- 1:09:16I'm, I didn't say the year yet, but he's still active.
- 1:09:19But yeah, he's but he, he was the fastest obviously to 2000 in
- 1:09:2516126 innings. 2000 strikes. I remember talking about this.
- 1:09:36I just don't remember who it was, but it what you said it was
- 1:09:39recently, right? Like last year.
- 1:09:41Not that recent. I don't think I don't think he
- 1:09:45got there any wise Who, no. Last year, well 2024, was when
- 1:09:52Darvish got to 2000 and he was the second.
- 1:09:56Oh, why is this? You said Darvish is, oh, he's #2
- 1:09:59OK. He's #2 Gerrit Cole was 2023
- 1:10:02when he got to 2000 and he would have been at the time, he would
- 1:10:06have been the third fastest until Darvish jumped up, then he
- 1:10:10moved down to 4. So that's telling you it's
- 1:10:18before 2023. Jacob degrom.
- 1:10:25That's why not degrom saying but.
- 1:10:26I didn't think he got there with the innings.
- 1:10:28Oh, oh, oh. Sorry, like I don't, I don't
- 1:10:30think he's at 2 or 2000 strikeouts because it's just.
- 1:10:33That's that's correct. And that's Chris Sale, just for
- 1:10:36Chris Sale is your guy. Nice.
- 1:10:39And now you have a guy who got it.
- 1:10:43Where's slot? Where's sales slot in?
- 1:10:45He's number one, That's it. That's he's the guy.
- 1:10:48Shoot #10 and #11 #10 is 1971. You can just let me know when
- 1:10:54you're ready to give up on that one.
- 1:10:56Number 11 got there in his final season in 2024.
- 1:11:01And yeah, I mean, just barely got it. 19190 innings and a
- 1:11:12third actually. And he retired, you said?
- 1:11:15Yes. 2024 retired just under, just beat the buzzer.
- 1:11:23He was 37 when he got there. Kind of a big, I would say like
- 1:11:33a a big personality. Trying to think of recent
- 1:11:42retirees. He did not play for Boston.
- 1:11:51He did spend one season in New York.
- 1:11:59So is everyone else. It's true he also spent a year
- 1:12:06in LA. Who do you retire with?
- 1:12:08Who do you retire with? That gives it away.
- 1:12:11He spent seven years with the teams that he retired with.
- 1:12:13Let me go through his teams 1st and then see if that that
- 1:12:16triggers it. Started with the team he spent
- 1:12:20most of his time with. Went to Minnesota Yankees,
- 1:12:22couple years with Texas, couple years with the White Sox.
- 1:12:26Traded to the Dodgers in the middle of that season.
- 1:12:28Went back to his main club. Where do the Yankees fit into
- 1:12:33that mix? They were.
- 1:12:35It was Minnesota, then the Yankees, then two years in
- 1:12:38Texas, two years in Chicago, 2 1/2 years in Chicago.
- 1:12:41Traded to the Dodgers, back to his original team.
- 1:12:45Andrew Heaney. Not Andrew Heaney.
- 1:12:49Like what? There's no way it was him.
- 1:12:53Andrew Heaney was pitching this past year, yeah.
- 1:12:57Oh, sure did, yeah. In in 2021 with the White Sox,
- 1:13:01he was he finished third in the Cy Young.
- 1:13:04The two years before that, he was fifth.
- 1:13:05Hold on, hold on. It's Lance Lynn.
- 1:13:07Lance Lynn's and the Cardinals was the team.
- 1:13:09Yeah, Lance Lynn is number 11 on that list.
- 1:13:12Any any takers on the 1971? You got any guesses there?
- 1:13:17Can you give us a team? Yeah, but you know what?
- 1:13:19I'm not going to lie, I'm going to have to look the guy up to
- 1:13:22give you a team. All right, all, then we're out.
- 1:13:26Give us the initials. What are the initials if we're?
- 1:13:29SM and your teams are well he did it all with Cleveland.
- 1:13:36Then he looks like he bounced around to the Giants, the
- 1:13:38Yankees and the Pirates. I never heard Pirates.
- 1:13:43Well, he pitched 14 games of the Pirates in 1975.
- 1:13:47Long before I was a human though.
- 1:13:49Steve Miller. You got the letters right?
- 1:13:54Because you gave them to us. Well, I'm trying to give him
- 1:13:57something. Sean McDonald.
- 1:13:59Oh, you got three. The first three let well first
- 1:14:03first 4 letters of the last name.
- 1:14:06McDonough, McDonough. Not that this is ridiculous.
- 1:14:12He was actually born in Pittsburgh, PA.
- 1:14:15Hold on. He said McDonald.
- 1:14:17He said McDonald. You said he got the 1st 4
- 1:14:21letters right. I said McDonald McDonough, and
- 1:14:24you look at me like I've got no, I'm saying.
- 1:14:26That, that wasn't it. It's not McDonough.
- 1:14:30But how many other options are McDougal?
- 1:14:32Well, the N the N was not correct.
- 1:14:34He got all excited the N McDougal.
- 1:14:37Right, that would be the 5th letter.
- 1:14:39McDougal. Not McDougal.
- 1:14:43It's nuts that. Makovsky.
- 1:14:48His name was Sam McDowell. I was going to look at that.
- 1:14:53McDowell was going to get there. I was going to get there with.
- 1:14:56You. Even if you did, you didn't know
- 1:14:58Sam. It was just you.
- 1:15:00You could have just done spin the Wheel of Names and got it.
- 1:15:03Yeah, we're going to play that game later.
- 1:15:07I'm going. To OK so RIP.
- 1:15:08Out Sam McDonald. Just to put a bow on.
- 1:15:11McDowell. Just to put a bow on this, there
- 1:15:15are seven players right now who are over 1500 strikeouts in less
- 1:15:20than 2000 innings that have a chance to actually do this as
- 1:15:26well. Say that again, there's what
- 1:15:28there's there's active players. There's seven players right now
- 1:15:32who I don't know if all seven of them have a chance to do this,
- 1:15:34but they're they're on the list to to have a chance to do this.
- 1:15:38One question would be Jacob degrom, who's only pitched 15139
- 1:15:43innings and is already at 18151 strikeouts, which is a big
- 1:15:48number. Robbie Ray is an interesting
- 1:15:50one, 1700 strikeouts, 1400 innings.
- 1:15:53If I don't know if he plays long enough to do that with, with the
- 1:15:56injuries, Carrasco's already 3839 years old.
- 1:15:59He's not going to get there. He's only at 1600, but.
- 1:16:02Got to be done. Actually, three that would
- 1:16:04probably be interesting. Kevin Gosman, 1954 in the
- 1:16:08strikeouts, 19111 innings. Sonny Gray, 1920519118 innings,
- 1:16:15which those guys are like they're going to do that this
- 1:16:18year. Yeah.
- 1:16:20And then Aaron Nola at 1876 strikeouts, 1715 in innings.
- 1:16:26So he's also a guy that could do it.
- 1:16:28Zach Wheeler is a little bit further away and a little bit
- 1:16:33older. Pretty interesting list.
- 1:16:37We could see more guys enter this list with only eleven guys.
- 1:16:43Shortlist. Yeah, that's.
- 1:16:48That's hitters. Hitters used to put the ball in
- 1:16:51play back then. That's right.
- 1:16:53Not no MO Sam McDowell. Sam.
- 1:17:02McDowell on that man's name. That's right.
- 1:17:05Man, oh man. The Sam McDowell episode.
- 1:17:10Episode 592 Sam McDowell No way you got Sam McDowell on the pod.
- 1:17:16Dude. How is Sam McDowell?
- 1:17:18Let's see, let's do. How do you spell?
- 1:17:19That he's he's 83 years old. He's 83 years old.
- 1:17:24There it is. Samuel Edward Thomas 02 middle
- 1:17:27names. Oh Baseball Reference only has
- 1:17:29one middle name on there. Samuel Edward Well, this is
- 1:17:32Wikipedia. And the great thing about
- 1:17:34Wikipedia is it's. Probably the wrong McDowell.
- 1:17:37Hey, I mean he's a six time All Star and he won an ERA title.
- 1:17:42Bro, that was when that was when the Indians really had really
- 1:17:50had the the uniform. They had Shiwahu on the, on the
- 1:17:54PEC on the chest. But then they rocked the sea
- 1:17:57that is now the Cincinnati Red Sea.
- 1:18:00If you remember. They had a lot, they had a lot
- 1:18:03work in there. Yeah.
- 1:18:07Samuel Edward Thomas McDowell, 6 foot 5.
- 1:18:13Whoa, back then. His nickname was Sudden Sam.
- 1:18:17Sudden Sam? Interesting.
- 1:18:20His father, Thomas, was a heat inspector for US Steel.
- 1:18:24Sure was. McDowell had a total of nine no
- 1:18:26hitters in high school. In Pittsburgh, lefty.
- 1:18:33Had signing bonus offers from all 16 Major League teams.
- 1:18:38And debuted at 18 years old, by the way.
- 1:18:40That's crazy. Do you imagine back then they're
- 1:18:43like they're talking about going to 18 team league are?
- 1:18:47You freaking kidding me? They're bumping it up to 18.
- 1:18:54What are we doing? This isn't baseball anymore.
- 1:18:56Oh jump off this bridge as God is my witness.
- 1:19:01According to Baseball Reference this this information is surely
- 1:19:05not accurate. He made about $453,000.
- 1:19:09There's rumors just going. To say dollars $453 in his
- 1:19:15career. Oh boy, Sam, there's rumors that
- 1:19:18they're going to be expanding about 30 years out of Colorado.
- 1:19:24Those hippies. They even got roads out there
- 1:19:27yet. This is the 60s.
- 1:19:35Oh boy, the. 60s He didn't retire till 1970. 520 teams in
- 1:19:40my league, they're trying to play them a freaking playoff.
- 1:19:48We just play World Series games here.
- 1:19:51Freaking playoff. I got to go to bed.
- 1:19:55They're paying these guys $500 a year.
- 1:20:00To play a kids game I'm going to write my congressman all right
- 1:20:09and at some point at. Some point he had to talk about
- 1:20:12the his American League going to ADH and he's like, dude, I'm in
- 1:20:16158 out here, what do we need ADH for?
- 1:20:20Oh, that's true. Yeah, man, he was 2.
- 1:20:24Player home runs. What a life.
- 1:20:27Oh, to your quiet, to your point, Nate wrong Sam McDowell
- 1:20:30at the top of the entry on Wikipedia, it says for the
- 1:20:32soldier and judge see Samuel McDowell.
- 1:20:37So there's a there's a a famous soldier and judge.
- 1:20:41Oh, now the OK, this is interesting steel mill.
- 1:20:44Worker. No, his allegiance was to the 13
- 1:20:49colonies he was part of of the Virginia militia.
- 1:20:53He was born in 1735, participated in in the conflicts
- 1:20:59of the French and Indian War, Lord Dunmore's War, as well as
- 1:21:03the American Revolution. Let's go, baby.
- 1:21:05You know what? You love it.
- 1:21:10What a time. This is something I.
- 1:21:13Guarantee you you could have given our listeners 7 million
- 1:21:21guesses as to what we would. Have covered, never know.
- 1:21:24At the end of this episode, I guarantee you the militiamen
- 1:21:30known as Samuel McDowell was not going to be one of those.
- 1:21:34Guesses Your bingo card will never get finished in this
- 1:21:39episode. Sad day.
- 1:21:41Suckers. All right, that's that's all we
- 1:21:45got. JB, you got to sign off yet?
- 1:21:48Yeah, you said go baseball. Yeah.
- 1:21:50Can we incorporate like some Mens or some Pittsburgh ease
- 1:21:53into this? Yeah, I'd appreciate that.
- 1:21:55I. Try not to go too heavy, you
- 1:21:57know what I mean? I.
- 1:21:57Lean into it. We welcome it here.
- 1:21:59We. We don't.
- 1:22:00We won't judge well, Nate, I've heard.
- 1:22:01You. I haven't heard you say it, I've
- 1:22:03just I've just read it in text. Oh, I yeah.
- 1:22:06You did. When we first got under, you
- 1:22:08were like, we're all in now. I heard it alive.
- 1:22:12Yen's is Yen's is in my, that's in my blood.
- 1:22:15That's my mom's side of the family.
- 1:22:17So it's it, doesn't it? It'd be weird to you.
- 1:22:19It doesn't register with me. Put it in a sentence.
- 1:22:24Use Yen's in a sentence, Josh. I I do all the.
- 1:22:28Time in your sign off right now. Oh, in my sign off?
- 1:22:31Yeah, make it. Well, it doesn't fit well.
- 1:22:32I've been saying go baseball, but but you just want me to do
- 1:22:36something else. Hey, it's smooth.
- 1:22:43So I start, I start the other, I start my other pod.
- 1:22:46We ate any. Oh, we did.
- 1:22:47That's what I'm saying. It just flows.
- 1:22:48That's what I'm saying. It doesn't register with me.
- 1:22:50It's like second nature. Too fast, man, Too fast.
- 1:22:54We start every every show on the other one with the big Yins
- 1:22:57guys. Yins guys, yeah.
- 1:23:01I don't think I like that that much.
- 1:23:02I. Love it.
- 1:23:05Yeah, you do. Yins guys, what do you yell it
- 1:23:09out? Yeah, Yes, guys.
- 1:23:13That's how you just say things, that's what.
- 1:23:15You you would know this if you watch Bridge to Bucktober.
- 1:23:17That's right, I'm. Sorry, man, that's on me.
- 1:23:20That's on me. Yeah, I catch clips.
- 1:23:23You do. All right, all right.
- 1:23:25So basically what Nate is saying.
- 1:23:27Yeah, we can come up with something else.
- 1:23:30Basically what Nate is saying is hiatus on, on Josh's sign off.
- 1:23:34So no pressure. You don't don't feel like you
- 1:23:36got to sign off. Nate is basically demanding that
- 1:23:39you change your sign off. OK.
- 1:23:43Yeah, let's just. I was fine with it.
- 1:23:46For the record, I would go. Baseball was a great.
- 1:23:49It was short, sweet, to the point.
- 1:23:52But Nate says no, so. It felt half assed to me but.
