Transcript
- 0:11Hello and welcome to Nick and Kristen in the podcast, yet
- 0:13another episode and today's episode is the Father's Day
- 0:16special. Yes, happy Father's Day early.
- 0:20Yes, it's on Sunday and I, I put in so much work in the birth of
- 0:24our daughter. I was there for three minutes
- 0:28and and then I was, I was at the end when the when the baby
- 0:31popped out. Right, it was, and it's been
- 0:34easy since. Yeah, it's definitely.
- 0:37Yeah, it's it's easier than yours job, that's for sure.
- 0:42Yeah. You have to deal with emotions
- 0:43and stuff. I just get to push her around
- 0:45and tickle her. But yeah.
- 0:47So I thought we'd make some, have some fun Father's Day stuff
- 0:50that we're going to do. And we'll tell the classic
- 0:51Father's Day story of my tradition on Father's Day.
- 0:54And then maybe you'll tell me the surprise this year early.
- 0:57No. OK, first they have a list of
- 1:01hot Disney dads. So I want you to rank.
- 1:03I want you to rank the Disney dads by their hotness and
- 1:07dadness. OK, I don't think any of them
- 1:10are hot. So they're cartoons, You're
- 1:12going to have to deal with it. You have to, you have to choose
- 1:14somebody. So out of 10 you're ranking for
- 1:18dadness? Like how good of a dad they are
- 1:20and hotness first one, King Triton.
- 1:23Well, not hot. Not hot, I'll give me a number.
- 1:262. Two Triton's not how he's
- 1:28ripped. He's a merman.
- 1:30And then dadness scale. He's a good dad.
- 1:33Yeah, he is. He's a good dad in the sense
- 1:35that he has some strict roles like you don't go up to the sea
- 1:39or to the the surface. Yeah, you don't go to the
- 1:41surface, like clear boundary. And also he doesn't want her
- 1:45interacting with humans. Why?
- 1:47Because we know that the mom of Ariel died like in a net or
- 1:51something like that. It's in a prequel but she so
- 1:54obviously he's traumatized but but he has good ground rules and
- 2:00it's to keep her safe because he loves her.
- 2:02Do you think he overreacted about the statue?
- 2:03There, yes, of course, but all parents overreacted some point
- 2:06in another and he felt immediately bad afterwards and
- 2:09he wanted to apologize, which shows great repair and he loves
- 2:13music and nurturing her singing career.
- 2:16So I would say 7 out of 10 Dad, all right.
- 2:19That's pretty good, King Frederick Rapunzel's dad from
- 2:22Tangled. We don't see him with anything
- 2:25and. We've watched the show. 0
- 2:27hotness because I don't even know what he looks like and 0
- 2:29dadness because I don't see him be a dad.
- 2:31The baby. Was still not the movie Tangled,
- 2:33but we watch there's a show. I haven't seen it enough.
- 2:36Oh, OK, so I was going to say. The baby was stolen underneath
- 2:39his nose while she was in the room with him, and there was an
- 2:42open window. There was an open window next to
- 2:45the crib. So I'm going to say 0 out of 10
- 2:47on the dad scale. OK.
- 2:49Bell's dad, Maurice. Oh boy.
- 2:52Well, zero on the hotness scale. How dare short fat yeah.
- 2:56Hey, come on. And 0 dad skills.
- 2:59I mean no you know what? I'll give him a I.
- 3:01Thought it was a pretty I'll give him.
- 3:02A5 because he's like, you know what?
- 3:03You don't have to be like everybody else.
- 3:05Yeah, be be. Yourself, all this kind of
- 3:07stuff, she. Didn't get to be the smartest
- 3:09person in the land or smartest woman in the land for no reason.
- 3:12He nurtured that academic side of her great, good, fine,
- 3:15everything, but totally useless in taking take care of himself.
- 3:19He parentified Belle. He made Belle be like a parent
- 3:24in the household. He did.
- 3:25She didn't get to have a childhood.
- 3:27She had to be his little sidekick and his little like,
- 3:30oh, OK, I'll do absolutely everything for you.
- 3:33It was a different time because he's useless.
- 3:36Different time, Kristen. All right.
- 3:39Anna and Elsa's dad, King Agnar. Hot in a scale and dad in a
- 3:43scale. 5 on the hotness scale because I can't even remember
- 3:46what he looks like, so I'm going neutral and yeah, a poor dad.
- 3:50I'm going to say 3, OK? Explain.
- 3:52So, OK, when you go to do something really dangerous
- 3:57because the mom and dad died together trying to investigate
- 4:00Elsa's powers, you don't go with both parents, OK?
- 4:04You leave one. When you go die, you go one
- 4:08parent at a time, right? And then you go, oh, man, that
- 4:12was a disaster. At least there's one left,
- 4:14right? So you don't go to parents at
- 4:15one time. He also, like, had
- 4:18misinformation about his whole childhood and all this kind of
- 4:21stuff that he passed on to the girls.
- 4:22He fed them a false history of the whole Kingdom.
- 4:25And yeah, so I'm going to. And then he locked Elsa away and
- 4:29told her not to use her powers, conceal, don't feel remember,
- 4:33which was the absolute opposite that the rock guy told her to
- 4:36do. Because remember, the rock guy
- 4:37was like, let her nurture her powers.
- 4:40She could fear them one day and that would be really bad.
- 4:42And he's like what I heard you say was lock her up and tell her
- 4:45that her parent powers are scary and like did the exact opposite.
- 4:49And he was kind of like a Dick to his wife, who he didn't
- 4:53realize had saved his life. Yeah, like the whole thing.
- 4:56And now we're getting to the frozen.
- 4:57Too, But. It's like, well.
- 4:58That's where I see most of his stories.
- 5:00Yes, it's just bad Dad. OK.
- 5:04Can you tell me? We watched a lot of Disney
- 5:05movies around here and we know. All these things.
- 5:07All right, Mufasa is the final one.
- 5:09Good. Dad OK. 8 out of 10 Dad OK?
- 5:12What was the what's he losing points for?
- 5:14He's losing points because I think he favored his son,
- 5:17although we didn't get to see much of everything.
- 5:19But he raised an entitled child. He was like, by the way, young,
- 5:25by the way, young, young, little child, you're going to rule over
- 5:28everyone and everything, so get used to it.
- 5:32And then Symbol walked around. It's an entitled attitude
- 5:34problem going I don't have to listen to you.
- 5:37I don't have to listen to you. I'm the future king.
- 5:39And like yes we all kind of spoil our child but that's why
- 5:42Mufasa lose points. It was teaching him to be a good
- 5:45king and then hotness scale. What do you think?
- 5:46It's a tiger, so you. Were a lion, would you give?
- 5:50It up. I mean he's the only lion in
- 5:51there, remember he's the only male, so he's got 1000 females.
- 5:55So zero out of on the hotness scale.
- 5:58There's a scale for Disney nerds on who the hot dads.
- 6:01So yeah. Do you have one that I left out?
- 6:03Do you think that there's a a dad, the best dad in Disney?
- 6:06It seems like Mufasa's got the highest score.
- 6:08Mufasa. Also, Mufasa had the highest
- 6:10score in the rankings. Oh, did he?
- 6:11Yeah, he was 10 out of 10 on both.
- 6:13Yeah, other than spoiling and entitling Simba, Yeah, he.
- 6:16Did pretty good kid, you know like but he was teaching him a
- 6:18good lesson a young. Child, by the way, you're better
- 6:21than absolutely every person taught.
- 6:24Him about the. Circle of life touches you're
- 6:26going to own. Yeah.
- 6:27And he was all like, oh, I don't have to listen to you, you, you.
- 6:30Or you, They tell him about the circle of life.
- 6:31The antelope eat the grass. Oh, that's.
- 6:33Good. This is why he lost the two
- 6:35points. Nick, I'm just saying, I don't
- 6:36think he did raise an adult child.
- 6:38He just there was a kid that he was just a kid, like being a
- 6:41kid. All right?
- 6:43Zeus was also on the list. What do you think about?
- 6:45Zeus. Oh yeah, I mean Zeus.
- 6:46No Zeus in any iteration. Zeus has never been a good dad.
- 6:51That's a good point. So yeah, Father's Day special
- 6:54going on. Let's take a break real quick to
- 6:55tell you about dad's favorite basketball game and why you
- 6:58should get tickets to go check out the Clark County Trash
- 7:00Pandas. So the Clark County Trash Pandas
- 7:02are a local basketball team that start off in March.
- 7:05So season tickets go on sale in October.
- 7:08You can start going to see games in March.
- 7:09But they are a slam dunk for the Clark County basketball fans,
- 7:12bringing professional basketball, family friendly
- 7:14entertainment and a commitment to the community we call home.
- 7:17So we got T-shirts from our buddy Brandon, who owns the
- 7:20team, which is weird to say that we own know some of.
- 7:22The I know an owner I. Know a basketball owner?
- 7:24Yeah, but it's going to be super fun here for locals in Vancouver
- 7:28and I know that if you want a shirt, you can go to
- 7:31clarkcountytrashbandits.com and grab yourself a shirt.
- 7:33We got one. I'm not going to show you it's
- 7:34right over there, but I'm still. Go back a podcast.
- 7:37Yeah, exactly what do dads want for?
- 7:41Fathers, that's a great question.
- 7:42So this is a question that gets asked every year about Mother's
- 7:45Day. Like what do moms really, really
- 7:46want to? Be left alone.
- 7:48To be left alone. Yeah.
- 7:48So dads, I thought this was an interesting list.
- 7:51So they went and they asked a bunch.
- 7:52They said like what do you want for Father's Day?
- 7:55Here are the top answers. So go to a baseball game, eat
- 7:58some hot dogs, enjoy some time with my kids away from screens.
- 8:01OK, so spending time with family.
- 8:03Yeah, I want to pack a cooler, go to a park, set up a grill,
- 8:05cook some burgers, drink a beer or two, and hang out with my
- 8:08wife and my daughter. So far lots of chill activities.
- 8:10Yeah, he doesn't have to do much, just want to chill.
- 8:12A day to read and write, paint or play video games.
- 8:15OK. So alone time I'm assuming on
- 8:17that one. Yeah, maybe.
- 8:18Yeah, a sword. Who did these people pull so?
- 8:22It's like a sword. It's like reminds me of that
- 8:24commercial. It's like I should have bought a
- 8:25Falcon or it's like the guy that like.
- 8:28Well, I technically wanted a light sword for most of my
- 8:30Father's Day, so and then someone said I just want a
- 8:33handmade cart and smoke meat all day.
- 8:36That would be fun. Every year we do something here
- 8:39in our family that we came up with the first year that Lily
- 8:42was born. It's have her dress up as one of
- 8:45my favorite pop culture characters.
- 8:47So if you don't know, I'm kind of a nerd and I like pretty much
- 8:50everything as far as pop culture goes for 80s, nineties, 2000s.
- 8:53Now, if you watch the movie, what is it?
- 8:57Game? What's the game?
- 8:58Ready Player 1. Pretty much everything in Ready
- 9:01Player One, Nick's a big fan of I.
- 9:02Would be I would love that game. Like I'm like, Oh my God, I
- 9:05lived through that whole era. So if it's a recap, like Lily
- 9:08for her first Father's Day with Nick, she was little baby
- 9:11Superman, then she's been Princess Peach, she's been a
- 9:15little tiny Jedi, she's been oh gosh, what else has?
- 9:19She been. She been Michael Jackson.
- 9:20She was Michael Jackson last year.
- 9:22She was Charizard. Charizard Yeah, I think that's
- 9:25it is. That it.
- 9:26I feel like there's another one maybe.
- 9:27Oh, she's Al Bundy. Al Bundy, that's what it was
- 9:30last year. She was out.
- 9:31By date, yeah. So that's what we've got so far.
- 9:33So you surprise me every year with what it is.
- 9:35You have to put the outfit together.
- 9:37It's more work for you than her, but eventually it always is.
- 9:39Eventually, she'll like. Sit by and do.
- 9:41Nothing. She'll do the work for me, Nick,
- 9:43that Well, I don't want you to do anything else.
- 9:45Like this is the one thing I wanted for her.
- 9:47No, this is totally fine. I'm fine.
- 9:48I'm fine doing this, Yeah. And so this is your one job for
- 9:51Father's Day. And so you've recently shot the
- 9:53pictures. Yes, I know this happened a
- 9:55couple days ago because you're like stamp, stamp I.
- 9:57Know because I like I've had the costume for like a week OK and I
- 10:00keep thinking oh Father's Day is ages from now and then I'm like
- 10:03Oh my gosh no it's this Sunday so I got to get this picture
- 10:05printed out so I was you were up here working so I was like oh
- 10:08perfect opportunity she seems in good spirits because that's been
- 10:11a lot of my problem is that Lily as a young child has always had
- 10:15big opinions and maybe a little too much like mufasa I've
- 10:19encouraged her to have her feelings shared with the group
- 10:23and so there's. You know there's something you
- 10:24don't want to do. You don't have to do it.
- 10:25But then when we want her to do something, we have to go crap.
- 10:28Except this. I need you to do this.
- 10:30I've had some really great costume ideas that got nixed at
- 10:33the last minute because she doesn't want to do it or she
- 10:35doesn't want to wear the hat or she doesn't want to wear a mask
- 10:37or whatever it is. This year I came up with a
- 10:39really great idea and she's like, I don't really.
- 10:43She was on board. She was like, OK with it, but
- 10:45she's like, I don't really want to do it.
- 10:47And I was like, fair, OK, so we kind of went with a fun, easier
- 10:52costume. So you're going to absolutely
- 10:55know who the character is. You're going to think it's
- 10:57hilarious. It turned out super good, but
- 11:00it's always kind of like my second idea.
- 11:03Because. The first one I have is like
- 11:04always, like this elaborate one, and to kind of give some
- 11:07perspective on that. So Nick is a huge fan of the
- 11:10musical Little Shop of Horse. And so one year I wanted her to
- 11:14dress up as Audrey too, which is the big plant.
- 11:16The plant that eats everybody? Yeah.
- 11:17And so I bought this Venus Flytrap costume and had like the
- 11:22Audrey fit like a head. And then I bought a pot like
- 11:26that had straps on it and an all green outfit with green tights
- 11:30and stuff like that. And I was going to have her sit
- 11:32in this pot. It was.
- 11:32Quite 11. What was she like 3 at this
- 11:34point? Yeah, she was.
- 11:34She was like 3 or 4 and she was terrified of the hat.
- 11:38Did it? What did it did it look like?
- 11:40I mean like did it have the teeth and everything?
- 11:41It had the. Teeth and everything.
- 11:43And so she was like totally, totally terrified.
- 11:46So that's the year we did Princess Peach, because I was.
- 11:49Like happy with that one either. OK, clearly I need to pick
- 11:52something that's a little bit more watered down, that feels a
- 11:54little bit more digestible to her little tiny personality.
- 11:57Princess Peach, by the way, the Princess from the Mario Brothers
- 12:00game. So this big pink Princess dress
- 12:03with a little Princess crown and she still hated that she wanted
- 12:08she. Didn't like dressing up.
- 12:09She didn't. Like dressing up now, she's
- 12:10better about it, but she's I will say.
- 12:13Opinion about things. Now this year the problem has
- 12:16become she has too much personality and she's OK
- 12:20dressing up, but now she wants to take the picture how she
- 12:23wants to take it. So there was.
- 12:25There was a power imbalance when we took the picture because I'm
- 12:27like, you have to pose like this because this is what the
- 12:30character does. And I showed her pictures.
- 12:32I was like, look, this is what we're recreating here.
- 12:34This is what we're doing. She's like, don't like it.
- 12:37I was like, OK, it's not up. For debate.
- 12:40It's not up for debate. This is the character that we're
- 12:42we're we're coming into a character right now and she's
- 12:44like, well, as long as I get to do some silly ones like the ones
- 12:47that I want to do just. Like in movies when you become
- 12:49an actress because she's probably going to pursue some
- 12:52sort of entertainment thing, got to give the director the 1 he
- 12:55wants and then you can do whatever you.
- 12:56Want yeah, like give me two good ones and then you could improv
- 12:59all you want. So the picture that I have is is
- 13:03a couple different ones. It's a little vignette and
- 13:06there's one in there that she she really wanted.
- 13:10And so I was like, OK, it's not. It's not embodying the
- 13:14character, but she looks cute and whatever and it makes her
- 13:16happy. Does she know who the character
- 13:18is? No.
- 13:19No idea. And so she knows the name of it
- 13:23because she read the name off the little bag or whatever that
- 13:26came in and she was like, I don't know what that is.
- 13:28I was like, don't worry about it.
- 13:30And then I hid the bag that had the name in it and I was like,
- 13:34do you remember the name? And she was like, no, it's like
- 13:36good because she blows it every year.
- 13:39Well, she knows. Last year, she didn't blow it.
- 13:42Amazon blew it. Because they packed.
- 13:44I got the the AL Bundy Polk jersey, like his foot, his
- 13:49football jersey, and it came at a clear bag.
- 13:53And when Nick and it was like Bundy and it said Bundy on the
- 13:55back and it was like spacing up. And I was just like, So Nick
- 13:58knew immediately, Yeah. I was like but it was a cute
- 14:00picture. It was a great picture.
- 14:01So yeah, I'm curious. I don't like to guess because I
- 14:03don't want to like, ruin the surprise.
- 14:05Yeah, I feel like you couldn't guess this one.
- 14:07Oh, interesting. OK.
- 14:08But I'll definitely know it. Oh, for sure.
- 14:10OK. Well, you're.
- 14:11Going to look at it, you're going to be like, Oh my God,
- 14:12yes, I love that, but it's not one of the go to's.
- 14:16OK, well, yeah, there's a lot. I was thinking, I was like, man,
- 14:19we're going to start running out of stuff.
- 14:20But there's a lot. There's a lot of stuff that I'm
- 14:22into. There's a.
- 14:23Lot. Like I have, you can just check
- 14:25my pop vinyl shelf or whatever. I'm like, OK, we can do that
- 14:27this year. But yeah, there's a yeah,
- 14:29there's a plethora of things to choose from that either I love
- 14:32or I'll get and that's, you know, we'll go through the love
- 14:35thing. I can at least get 80.
- 14:37Like it's like if I get to 80 she can stop.
- 14:41Well, and like I also had another great idea.
- 14:43I don't want to tell you about it because I might reuse it
- 14:45because I needed money for this one.
- 14:47The costumes were a little too elaborate and it was a mother
- 14:51daughter combo 1. And I was like, I haven't seen
- 14:54you. Do 1 of.
- 14:54Those I was like, I want to get in on this and I want to be a
- 14:58part of this and wouldn't this be so amazing?
- 15:00This would turn out so great. But the costumes were too pricey
- 15:05for an unemployed budget. Yeah, and so are.
- 15:09They very particular costumes like they have you couldn't like
- 15:11very. Specific costume.
- 15:13Interesting mother daughter, huh?
- 15:15Well, I'm not saying mother daughter, I'm just saying duo.
- 15:19Oh, OK. So just a duo and I was going to
- 15:22be a part of it, but I was like, can't afford it.
- 15:24This. Bebop and rocksteady.
- 15:26Bebop, you nailed it. Bebop and Rocksteady from
- 15:28Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. A big rhino.
- 15:31I'm surprised you knew who the where they were from.
- 15:33That's interesting. Good, you know the guy.
- 15:35I'm in the 80s too. I know when you were, you
- 15:38weren't cool. You didn't watch the cool stuff.
- 15:40I know, but I had a brother. He watched Teenage Mutant Ninja.
- 15:42He's that. Cool.
- 15:44Every boy, I mean. So were they both rhinos?
- 15:49No one was a pig and one was a rhino.
- 15:52Yeah, a bebop and Rockstar. Yeah, I know what they are.
- 15:54OK, good. All right, well, happy Father's
- 15:56Day to all the fathers that listen to this podcast.
- 15:58Thank you for listening to the podcast.
- 15:59And we will reveal what the answer is on Monday when we all
- 16:02find out together. We'll.
- 16:03Show the picture, yeah.
