- 0:07The 1954 baseball All-Star game took place at Cleveland Stadium on Tuesday, July 13, 1954.
- 0:14The Los Angeles Dodgers had the right for their manager to lead the All-Star team after they won the nationally pennant in 1953 under manager Chuck Dresden.
- 0:22But Dresden was pushing the Dodgers owner Walter O'Malley for a long-term contract and O'Malley wasn't having it.
- 0:28He let the contract expire at the end of 1953 and hired minor league manager Walt Alston to manage the team in 1954.
- 0:35He would manage the Dodgers for another 23 years.
- 0:38The American League All-Stars were managed by Casey Stingle thanks to their victory over the Dodgers in the 1953 World Series, which would be their fifth consecutive championship.
- 0:47This audio recording is from the Mutual Radio broadcast featuring announcers Al Helfer and Jimmy Dudley.
- 0:53Quickly we'll get to the lineup of today's great team. These are the men who will start the game, men chosen by U.S. fans of America.
- 1:02After the first three innings, the managers will be free to call upon whom they like.
- 1:07Here is the shouting lineup and the batting order for the national league team.
- 1:13At second base, number two, Rene Hamner of the Philadelphia field.
- 1:19Number 19 at Short Dap, Alvin D'Arts, great Short Dap of the New York Giants.
- 1:26In center field, number four, Duke Schneider, one of the stars of other All-Star games.
- 1:33A great player of the Brooklyn Dodgers in center field.
- 1:37In right field, number six, Dan Musial.
- 1:42As far as seniority is concerned, he is the All-Star of all All-Stars.
- 1:47He has been on his 11th All-Star team.
- 1:51He has been in the box store of all of the previous 10, truly one of the game's great stars.
- 1:56At first base, number 18, Ted Pazuski, powerful dad of the Cincinnati Red Lays.
- 2:01At third base, Jabrancki, left field, Jackie Robinson, catching Roy Knappanella and picking Robin Roberts.
- 2:08The American League. And in left field, Manny Manosco, second base, Robby Avila.
- 2:13Center field, Mickey Mantle, catcher, Yogi Berra, first base, Al Rosen.
- 2:20Marzelline up, later, right now, ladies and gentlemen, our national anthem.
- 2:50There are the crowders, each and every one of these fans.
- 3:16Now settle back in their seats, ready for the team competition coming this afternoon.
- 3:25We gave you Al Rosen at first base, at third base, fighting at the number six spot, is Ray Boone.
- 3:31In right field, Hank Howard, set-up, Kiko Carousel and picking Whitey Ford of the New York Yankees.
- 3:37The American Leagueers have already taken the playing field.
- 3:40This whole game will be getting underway shortly.
- 3:42Right now, we've paused 10 seconds for station identification. This is the Mutual Broadcasting System.
- 3:49WGP.
- 3:55Our fans, back-jet, prove them, huge municipal stadiums, the scene of the captain of all star games.
- 4:01And ready to get underway, is Whitey Ford, ready to fix the belief of batter stepping into the batter's box.
- 4:06And here, after the right, is one of the American's soft broadcasts, ready to bring you the play-by-play.
- 4:11Mutual Big Alhelfer, Alton in.
- 4:14Alright, Jim, thank you for your time.
- 4:16But after that, ladies and gentlemen, we are ready for the start of the 24th annual All-Star Game.
- 4:20It's Whitey Ford, who has won seven this year.
- 4:23Lost Six has fixed two shutouts, including a two-hitter open to call the White Sox.
- 4:27It's about ready to make his first pitch to Grandville Hatchery, the fan second baseman of the Pivotoff Ufiles,
- 4:32who has been chosen here this afternoon by U-Fans to lead off for the National League Ball Club,
- 4:37as one just hates hardly 20 ball games that have been played between these two teams as a mid-summer class.
- 4:42Grandville Hamner, who is batting at 3-23, is the number eight-hitter at this moment in the National League.
- 4:48Grandville Hamner to be followed by Shortstop Alvin Dark, and then by Centerfielder Duke Snotty.
- 4:53If there is a change in the line-up, it has been a last second change,
- 4:57so we'll check the line-up as we go along, as given by Jim Dudley.
- 5:00However, at this particular time, it seems to be after the Alpenny.
- 5:04That rumble of the American League handling the balls and strikes behind the play here in the first four and a half,
- 5:08and he's quick with Bill Stewart, who is the man in Zoro down behind first. He's the National League gunman.
- 5:13Now, we'll set the American League for you defensively. Whitey Ford on the mound, the New York boy,
- 5:17is battering Major Shoget Bear, and the first pitch now to Grandville Hamner is a fastball that is funded down the first-place line foul.
- 5:24Grandville Hamner trying to put his lay on, hot-spot down the first-place line for strike one.
- 5:28So the 21st annual All-Star game, the second win to be played here in the City of Cleveland, is underway.
- 5:33Now, around the Indian field for the American League. Cleveland's fine competitor Al Rose in his first base.
- 5:38His money-made body of era, at second. At Shutt's top, Chico Garg-Gal, one of the fancy-feeling Shutt's top, for the business.
- 5:45At third base, Ray Boone, who comes back to Cleveland here in front of the Triumph and Grove,
- 5:49are the left field minimum-low-star of the Chicago White Sox.
- 5:52There is a fix to the plate now. Fastball taken high on outside.
- 5:55So the counters one ball and one strike here on the leadoff man, Grandville Hamner,
- 5:59who is making his appearance in his third All-Star game.
- 6:02The rest of the outfield defensively for the American League.
- 6:05In center this afternoon is Mickey Maddell and it writes his hang-power both of the New York Yanks.
- 6:10The fix to the plate a big hook, a curveball, up to the base.
- 6:13That runs for half the two balls and one strike to Hamner.
- 6:16Grandville Hamner, who was born in Richmond, Virginia, now makes his home in Clearwater, Florida.
- 6:20Five eleven hundred and sixty pounds.
- 6:22One of the struck plugs on that Philadelphia infield in the national lead.
- 6:25He stands just off the plate with his feet wide spread apart, and his straight waist down to the big.
- 6:30Two balls, one strike to cover. And then he's ready for it.
- 6:33He's ready to bend the next one in.
- 6:34He deals with all the fastball, swing on, and Hammer down into right field.
- 6:37Getting under the hang-power.
- 6:39He waits for it to come down and makes the catch.
- 6:41So we have all number one here, the top half of the inning.
- 6:44All comes Alvin Garth.
- 6:47Can you catch him?
- 6:49I'll be New York Yanks.
- 6:51I'm batting number two here for the national lead.
- 6:53Alvin Garth.
- 6:56So he's got so many telegrams from his friends down in Lake Charles, Louisiana, that they had to wheel him out, to him in a wheelbarrow.
- 7:01How about that?
- 7:03He comes from Lake Charles, Louisiana now, all born in Comanche, Oklahoma.
- 7:06A right-handed hitter batting in 293, making his third appearance in the All-Star game.
- 7:11Four delivery manos, lot of curveball, a kick-off, off the first-aid 500-quack-walk.
- 7:15Go, James.
- 7:18Down at first-aid for the All-Stars is Charlie Grimm, very immutable manager of the Milwaukee Braves,
- 7:23and the currently leading manager of the National League, Leo DeRosier, is doing his work down behind third,
- 7:30for Walter Austin, who is running the power club from the bench.
- 7:33Now, ready for the next pitch on the Ohio Tigers?
- 7:36No ball is one strike to Charlie, right-handed batting Alvin Garth.
- 7:39Here comes the pitch, Garth takes it high off the face.
- 7:41Garth is one ball and one strike.
- 7:43Alvin Garth to be followed by Duke Snyder, the National League's number one hitter.
- 7:48That is percentage-wise.
- 7:50Duke's up there in a lot of things, too.
- 7:53He can really go.
- 7:55The man who's up in the side here, the umpire, the many blue.
- 8:00So, as we give you a just a moment, this far pitch is a lot of curve.
- 8:02It's high, it's a ball too, and I got a score in London now on Alvin Garth.
- 8:06Ed Blomowla is working to play the first four-and-a-half game.
- 8:08At first base, he's the National League's better umpire, and he's balance-backed.
- 8:12Joe Paparello of the American League is second, and Bill Stewart is down at third.
- 8:16He's the National League umpire.
- 8:17Jim Honojeck and Tom Roman on the line.
- 8:20The Dark Swings on the next pitch has a high pop-up in the short. Let's see you.
- 8:23Going out for it behind third base, the shortstop, Kerrascale.
- 8:26Next for catching, we have Alvin with you here.
- 8:28Coming up now is Duke Smith.
- 8:30After four, five, six, five, six, five, six, five, six, five, six, five, six.
- 8:37That's Duke Snyder weighing number four, standing in the play-by-now.
- 8:40Kicking, Bill is getting ready to go.
- 8:42Yogi Barrault, the American League catcher, is about to get down on the cross from the line.
- 8:47Duke Snyder, the number one hitter in the National League, with a percentage of 367.
- 8:52367.
- 9:00Duke is fifth this year in the National League, and one side of him was 70.
- 9:03Ford pumps with two downs, it's just a curve.
- 9:05It's not so long outside to Duke Snyder, like Ann Hitter, next ball one.
- 9:09Duke Snyder making his fifth appearance in the out-stop classic.
- 9:16Golden Pioneer, rather shallow third base.
- 9:18Alvin's down around right, Wendy.
- 9:20Big curve for Alvin, Snyder's strong on there, the high-slide ball hits down.
- 9:23The left field line, Minoso has the very easy comes over, near the power line,
- 9:26and he's shallow left, and makes the catch, Alvin goes lead.
- 9:29Well, Duke Snyder pops up to Minimozo in the field, and that's the third out here,
- 9:33made off the first inning.
- 9:35No run to the National League, no run, no hit, no errors, nobody left saw.
- 9:39The other's smaller, at the end of the top half of the first inning.
- 9:42The star is the National League, nothing, the American League, nothing.
- 9:48When you face that south room mirror this morning, you'll get quick, wonderfully refreshing shades
- 9:53if you use the Genet Super Speed Racer.
- 9:55This quick shaving instrument teams up with any good shaving cream
- 9:59to make your look and feel your downright face.
- 10:02The one-piece gelatration changes the face instantly.
- 10:05It gives you cool and, as the young fellas say, real cool shave
- 10:09that look good and feel good.
- 10:11Keening is a cinch too, what's for grins, those for drinks.
- 10:14What's more, the gelat supersede is double S, so you save money on blades.
- 10:19Get next to the all-star gelat shaving thing.
- 10:21I'm asking for a gelat supersede laser, complete with dispenser,
- 10:25super shot group blades, inspiring double-gates, or only a dollar.
- 10:32Always set them to the last half of the first inning.
- 10:35The total score game between the National and the American League
- 10:38is in this summer's final round, inter-sustaining agreement.
- 10:41The first time I saw the American League 12-star
- 10:46will be Chicago's Minimino, so I'll bang in the field.
- 10:49We'll cut the national league forward offensively now.
- 10:54It's Robin Roberts from Swingdale, Illinois,
- 10:56and now living in Medebrook Central when you take some off.
- 10:58Robin Roberts, known as a fairly good control figure in the National League,
- 11:03is one of the best in the business.
- 11:05This year, Robin Roberts has won 11 ball games, has lost eight.
- 11:08He has six-ball shutouts, two of which have been one-hitter.
- 11:11He has so far posted pretty magnificent records.
- 11:14As far as the league is concerned,
- 11:17Robin Roberts had a one-hitter against Milwaukee back on the 29th of April in a night game,
- 11:21and the one-hitter over Cincinnati at Philadelphia.
- 11:23He pitched to Minoso, hitting right-handed,
- 11:25and it swung on and crawled back into the screen just like that.
- 11:28Robin Roberts has covered off the one-hitter spoiled by Bobby Adams
- 11:32for Cincinnati's first baseman when he led off
- 11:34in the top half of the first inning, smacking his first home run of the year.
- 11:38Robin Roberts, the pitcher, is battered by this Roy Campanella.
- 11:42Now the pitcher to Minoso, batting his 3-13 is swung on.
- 11:47It's half-boss on the straightaway center field.
- 11:49He's got it backing up, still going back on with extra catch, and we have our number one.
- 11:53Win the Minoso, a very unique fourth-all for our game.
- 11:56A quick slide off the center field to the left-hand, and Bobby Avila comes up.
- 12:01Here's young color who's the cutting-slide of Aero II's Mexico.
- 12:12Bobby Avila, a fine second baseman for the Cleveland Indian,
- 12:16and bearing in his second off-star game.
- 12:20Minoso is the number two hitter in the American League for Sunday's
- 12:23RISE decision, how many is batting? It's 341.
- 12:26Roberts makes first six short, I'm gonna say. Sure, the break was across under the ladders for strike one call.
- 12:34Avila stands about three-quarters deep at the plate, he's two feet pretty much together.
- 12:38Roberts comes, and delivers.
- 12:41What looks like an after in the ball, and just down he's short-stopped through, and the field's a little bit bit.
- 12:47There's the first play fit in the all-star game.
- 12:51Roberts gives it up here through the right-handed batting Bobby Avila, and on the college,
- 12:56he's the first hitter, Mickey Mantle from college, Oklahoma.
- 13:04Mickey Mantle is the tremendous favorite around the league.
- 13:06He's batting a 3-16 hitting fourth in the American League right now, leading in home runs at 18.
- 13:11He's also one of the leaders in the burn side of it.
- 13:14Roberts's liver's torn, a fast ball, and Mickey's calls are brought out into center field.
- 13:18Roberts's batter puts the front-glock, just comes on board, waits every half-way to second.
- 13:22Retreats of the catch is made by Snatter's in center field for number two.
- 13:27Yogi Berra, batting a 2-91 comes up now.
- 13:36So a two down and one on, for the American League here in the last half of the first inning.
- 13:40Yogi Berra, the left-hand catcher of the New York Yankees, makes his way after the plate, hitting left-handed.
- 13:47A little follow-up where he's got a choose to call the ball of fur,
- 13:50because the way he moves around,
- 13:53leaves over the plate.
- 13:55Roberts puts over to Zuzki first and watches the winners try to wait,
- 13:58and pitches the plate to Berra outside on a half-season, fast ball for ball one.
- 14:02At second base, it's Randall Hander defensively.
- 14:05The shot stops at Alvin Gauke, at third is Cardinals' Ray Jeplanski.
- 14:09Out in left field, more than that, the National League this afternoon is Jackie Rothenstein.
- 14:14The pitch of the plate is outside and high in Campanella.
- 14:17Whereas Rand quickly, thinking maybe Avedo, who is very fast from the base side,
- 14:21maybe off the break.
- 14:23So the count is all two on Yogi Berra.
- 14:27Two balls, no strike.
- 14:30Bilkatter defensively in center field, in right field, Sam and Amirzio.
- 14:33The Duke of Gamara.
- 14:35A lot of ball, a full-on, hits the call off the first base line.
- 14:37Zuzki gloves it and tries it right back to the mound to pitch it off.
- 14:41So now it is a two-ball and one strike count on Yogi Berra.
- 14:45In the last half of the first inning, the goal is all game.
- 14:48While the one hit has been produced so far, Avedo hit one through the hole between Shorty third and Inglef field.
- 14:54Here in the last half of this first inning after Minotaur flies to center.
- 14:57Madeline flies to center.
- 14:59And Avedo forces to go on the first with Kruzuzki on the inside corner.
- 15:03Robert delivers the plate.
- 15:05Fast ball, it misses outside to Berra for ball three.
- 15:08And one on Yogi Berra.
- 15:11The closest quality American league.
- 15:14Freddie Hutchinson, the manager of the good and bad coaches, is still team first.
- 15:17And Mali Marian.
- 15:19One of the coaches of the club of White Sharks is working out at third base.
- 15:23Now Robert is ready. Check just one over the shoulder with the pitchers right there.
- 15:26He's going to break in the pitchers well for ball four.
- 15:28And he's going to hold up on Trotting to second as Farrell walks.
- 15:43And the best round of applause for their fine competitor.
- 15:47As the president is saying last night, young fellow who has made a start.
- 15:50And so simply because he was determined to do so.
- 15:53He's playing today with a stiff finger on the stiff index finger on his right hand.
- 15:56It was broken. Al-Horzen first base.
- 15:58Twins on first base and doesn't get it.
- 16:00Just enough to get the foul on X-Rike line.
- 16:04Al-Horzen is tied to the number five and number six position in the American league.
- 16:07As the bat comes to Sunday's wise.
- 16:10At 3.13 with minimum outflow of the starting up fielder here this afternoon.
- 16:14Al-Horzen hitting right handed.
- 16:16Dan's three quarters keeper to the weight and keeps him feet pretty much together.
- 16:19So the American league here has a push going in the last half of this first inning.
- 16:23He's lost but he was passed only 24 men in the regular season.
- 16:26He lost his first man. He had to put him under his first and second and two down.
- 16:29There's cross cross fire to the plate.
- 16:31If over to me it's the Rosens' right-hand ball.
- 16:35Yogi Berra is on his first.
- 16:37Bobby Ebeler, after having singles.
- 16:39Has been pushed down to second on the loss given to Yogi Berra.
- 16:42The outfield fans are on the left and play pretty deep for Rosen.
- 16:45He's hit 14 home runs in the regular season.
- 16:48Let's put forward to the plate now.
- 16:50This is cross ball and misses outside and low with it for ball one.
- 16:54One ball and two strikes.
- 16:57Roberts moves back up to the top of the rubber.
- 17:01Looks down, takes his shot and more at Campanella.
- 17:04Check his runner back over his right shoulder.
- 17:06Goes to the bottom of the stretch and delivers a curve.
- 17:09It misses outside and low to Al-Horzen to Wrennys down to two and two.
- 17:13And Campanella calls for time.
- 17:15Lots of cross for Roberts. The two of them are meeting now in the middle of the diamond.
- 17:18And Paul, Campanella who is struggling with a left hand that seems to be partially paralyzed.
- 17:26Another fellow is for the great competitor in baseball.
- 17:29Right Campanella?
- 17:31And everyone here in this park looks at it.
- 17:35It's just a scare and that's all of you playing through with the run and all.
- 17:39That's for all of Rosen's first and the third.
- 17:42Roberts gets the half-pipes off the fifth.
- 17:44And that's all here in the last half of the first inning is Rosen Streiktoff giving Robin Roberts his first dunk out of the ball game.
- 17:50And it's first when affected by either pitcher.
- 17:52Roberts is struck from 99 out in regular season.
- 17:55And here in the last half of the first inning for the American League is Threstford no more.
- 17:59No runs. One base hit by the Avila single to left.
- 18:01One lock given to Barrow.
- 18:03Leave Shulin on, they were nowhere.
- 18:05So the score at the end of the first inning is the National League nothing and the American League nothing.
- 18:11Well put, comfortable shaves that look swell and make you feel great.
- 18:15All for shaving cream and an up-to-date one-piece Gillette razor.
- 18:20Well, it's a lovely way of seeing quite a first inning here, Admiral Fellow.
- 18:24Absolutely, Al and when Roy Campanella went out to talk to Robin Roberts,
- 18:28a couple of boys who play on different teams,
- 18:31Campi Evans definitely knew what he was talking about.
- 18:34When he wanted Roberts to come in with that fast ball on Al Rose, that's down to and due.
- 18:40Well, I think we can see a lot of that this afternoon because these characters see pretty good books in that.
- 18:46But Barrow's all over the things that they've kept back in their memories will avail themselves here this afternoon.
- 18:53And, well, actually what happens with Stan Murcio?
- 18:57He'll be the first man up here for the National League team in the second inning.
- 19:01Well, appearing in his 11th All-Star Day, Stan the Man Murcio,
- 19:05Adamson St. Louis was born and raised in the city of DeLore, Pennsylvania on the Monaca Hill River.
- 19:15Here's one of the nice guys in this race.
- 19:17A fellow that you're always glad to see.
- 19:19He competes pretty much together, but from a very severe start.
- 19:22Don getting himself wiggled into position, 24-ready now.
- 19:26The liver's going a big curveball that's messed off low and outside for power.
- 19:30Stan Murcio is tied with his teammate Red Shading from St. Louis.
- 19:35As the number five and six hitter for some reason he's wise in the National League is at this moment.
- 19:39Murcio's about to get 3-31, has a total of 26 home runs,
- 19:44and leaves everybody in the Major League with 82 runs out of in.
- 19:48No wonder they pitched to him carefully.
- 19:50And Ford is doing just that.
- 19:52Overhand curve, Mews is playing well,
- 19:54there's a lot of left-rights coming up as power,
- 19:56and he's got the ball, Mews goes to the first base, throws in,
- 20:01and it's a single for Sam and I.
- 20:07There's the rifle shot by Mews here in the right field.
- 20:09Now I had to come up fast for it,
- 20:11Clint had to get off his shoe top, had to drop it.
- 20:13So Ford is giving up his first hit.
- 20:17Here is Zek Zuzzi from Cincinnati.
- 20:23Zek Zuzzi's game.
- 20:25So now makes his home in the city of Cincinnati,
- 20:27was thrown in Argo and a little high.
- 20:29Big left hand hitter.
- 20:31He's out of your 3-12.
- 20:33That's Jordan as a fastball, the missus just outside, about shoulder high.
- 20:37All one on six hits.
- 20:39So Sam Mews, he leaves it off here in the top of the second inning,
- 20:42giving the National League their first advantage.
- 20:44He's on the first with nobody down,
- 20:46Rose on the inside corner first, Ford pitches the plate to Zuzzi,
- 20:48swings there, the ball is on the second,
- 20:50up with the Zabita plays it's the second for one off,
- 20:52and over to first, double play.
- 21:00Zek Zuzzi hitting his old fastball play from Bobby Avila,
- 21:03Kiegelstahl, and over to first base, the flip rose.
- 21:05That's the first twin killing in the All-Ireland.
- 21:07Rocking up for the All-Ireland league.
- 21:09Here comes Wage Uplunski, the number nine hitter in the National League,
- 21:12batting at 3-22.
- 21:15So our twin killing breaks the back of any threat tonight,
- 21:18the league might have had in the back of their head right now.
- 21:20And with the bases empty, two down.
- 21:23Gieblunski batting at 3-22, takes the first pitch, the ball one.
- 21:29Great, he keeps his feet pretty much together.
- 21:32Ford has a crowd just slightly bent at the knees,
- 21:35stands about midway in batter's box,
- 21:37Ford goes to the corner, that's one on there,
- 21:39the grass covers the short, Kara Skellen,
- 21:41son of a pick-up, her is he,
- 21:43Ford goes to first base to Rose in the inside, and Gieblunski is up.
- 21:45Quickly in, the National League is put out here in the back half of second inning.
- 21:52And for the National League, no runs, there was one base hit,
- 21:55there were no errors, and nobody was left on.
- 21:59So again, the one and one half inning to play,
- 22:01there's only first annual All-Star game from Crescent,
- 22:03the four is, the National League nothing, the American League nothing.
- 22:07One, two, three, four.
- 22:15A couple of years back, Ray Bullen sadly left the city of Crescent
- 22:18because he's been traded over to Detroit.
- 22:21He became a very fine third baseman for the Tigers,
- 22:23and he's making his appearance for the first time in the All-Star game,
- 22:26hitting right handed.
- 22:27He's been chosen by U-Fans for his stellar work,
- 22:29a box corner four Detroit,
- 22:32first pitch home, and both of our walks.
- 22:34Ray Bullen hitting right handed,
- 22:37starting at 3-0-3, the number 10 hitter in the American League.
- 22:39The third ball, Joy McClone outside the ball too.
- 22:43Ray Bullen,
- 22:45starting number six in the order here this afternoon,
- 22:47up for his first half out of the day,
- 22:49as we step into the last half of second inning here from Cleveland.
- 22:52Robin Roberts on the mound for the National League,
- 22:55touches motion,
- 22:56quick, kick controls.
- 22:58The sweepers that misses outside,
- 23:00and Roberts who is usually very sharp on controls,
- 23:02are coming behind to Ray Bullen,
- 23:05of the California 3-0.
- 23:10Ray Bullen from San Diego, California,
- 23:13leans over the plate as Roberts switches him a curve,
- 23:16over for Scott, just a little wrinkle, not too much.
- 23:20Now the top of 3-1.
- 23:23Scott Bullen can cut that long ball for you.
- 23:26The left home runs this year,
- 23:28Ray Bullen has weighed in with the 14.
- 23:30Roberts drives fast on in 12 minutes for a second.
- 23:34Bullen had his sights set.
- 23:37On defense, 365 feet away from home plate.
- 23:40It's 320 feet down the left and right field far lines here at Cleveland.
- 23:44Play find ball far,
- 23:45365 to right and left center, and straight away center 410 feet.
- 23:51Got a playing field here, and a prayer well kept.
- 23:54Now the 3-2 pitch through Bullen.
- 23:56In the whistles,
- 23:57fast ball thrown on by Bullen, there's a high pop up,
- 24:00right behind first base,
- 24:02Ted Kruzucki going back for it,
- 24:04and he's off to the left to make the catch.
- 24:27He's right handed hitter,
- 24:35and he's going to the left field for a base hit.
- 24:42The last half of second inning,
- 24:47ball hit from John to left field,
- 24:49and the batter coming up to Cicco's character.
- 24:54Here's the guy that says the captain tried to direct his center to the left.
- 24:59One of the fine fielding short shots for the baseman.
- 25:02Cicco Kershaw hitting right handed,
- 25:04batting at 263,
- 25:05and fairing in the third all-star game.
- 25:07Right handed batter standing deep at the plate,
- 25:09he's sitting much at heart straight away,
- 25:11and a fast little pitch.
- 25:12Kruzucki playing a shallow third,
- 25:13as the first pitch is made over.
- 25:15Off the hands on the inside corner for strike one call.
- 25:18One off, one on here in the last half of second inning.
- 25:24The outfield playing quite the around the left.
- 25:26Robinson playing a deep left field.
- 25:28Now Robert's checks his runner,
- 25:31whistles the pitch into the plate,
- 25:32that's one off.
- 25:33Hopped right out of the mid-off,
- 25:34campin' L.A.
- 25:35The care scale cuts just enough to put the tip of the ball.
- 25:38Well, the count on Cicco's care scale
- 25:40is no ball, it's in two strikes.
- 25:42There is one off, there is one off,
- 25:45in the last half of inning number two,
- 25:47in the squallest ball game,
- 25:49the 21st annual off-star classic
- 25:51from municipal segment pleasant.
- 25:54He's sent you away with a very good pleasure
- 25:56of the Gillette Safety Razor Company.
- 25:58Now the old two pitchers,
- 25:59who care scale,
- 26:00a fast ball that sheds off outside the ball one.
- 26:04One ball into strike.
- 26:07In case you're tuned in like with us,
- 26:08it's Robin Roberts on the mound.
- 26:11Regular season is 111,
- 26:13has lost 864, shut off, two one-hitters.
- 26:17The delivery, care scale,
- 26:18swings in a big change of curve,
- 26:19and there's a good one, that's strike three.
- 26:22That's second strike out for Mr. Roberts,
- 26:23here this afternoon.
- 26:27Coming up to the plate now will be Whitey 4.
- 26:30He was sort of a surprise starter in a way.
- 26:34Whitey the New York boy,
- 26:36coming up to the plate,
- 26:37getting there around the clock,
- 26:38he's close.
- 26:39Whitey has won seven of lost pitch this year,
- 26:41six two shut offs.
- 26:44I've pitched one two-hitter,
- 26:46I've pitched over the shoulder-legs off.
- 26:51Whitey 4 choking up on about hitting with handed.
- 26:54Takes the Roberts fast ball outside,
- 26:56and high at the ball one.
- 26:58One ball into strike.
- 26:59Jabowski comes in shallow at third base,
- 27:01play almost up on the rim of the infield grab.
- 27:03The outfield straight away,
- 27:04and up to the right side of the infield deep,
- 27:06and they're plugging the hole between first and second.
- 27:08Pitch the plate on, and this is for Whitey 1.
- 27:12Whitey 4, now with the plate with two down and one on,
- 27:14and the last half of the second inning.
- 27:16Either team has been able to score,
- 27:18Roberts has been hit quite,
- 27:20two singles from that field,
- 27:22and starting pitch at 4,
- 27:24and hits for just one.
- 27:25Usually a single,
- 27:26going in the second inning to right.
- 27:27Pitch the plate to 4,
- 27:28it is all the nice ways to knee for a foul strike.
- 27:33One ball through strikes,
- 27:34he's got on board,
- 27:35hard-tipped that up on his left shoulder,
- 27:37and waits for Roberts to go through his shenanigans with a mound.
- 27:40Roberts is ready,
- 27:41again a glance over at first base,
- 27:43over his left shoulder,
- 27:44watching Hank Bauer stride away.
- 27:46In comes the pitch,
- 27:47towards Twink,
- 27:48hits for Aitlin,
- 27:49runs his foul down the third base line.
- 27:50That fouls his over the road,
- 27:51with Kansas is back into the crowd.
- 27:53And somebody goes over,
- 27:55and Hathley with the two of them air.
- 27:58Roberts gets the new ball,
- 28:00lots of first-brace and he's fouled,
- 28:02settles his gap back down,
- 28:03gets his hands all dried up on his uniform.
- 28:07Gavin Ellis stays down on the crowd,
- 28:08pumps the foul,
- 28:09hops to Mr. Zuckett.
- 28:10Here's the one to delivery,
- 28:11a lot of curve,
- 28:12outside the whitey forth,
- 28:13the foul two.
- 28:14Two balls and two strikes.
- 28:16Hank Bauer,
- 28:17ready to fly on anything down at first base,
- 28:19he sees the single to left field,
- 28:21with one down here in the second inning,
- 28:23then care of scale struck out behind him
- 28:24to effect the second out.
- 28:26Ford leaning over the plate very drastically now,
- 28:29hits his leg to a McFlinger on there,
- 28:31the slow bounding ball taps off to the right of the plate,
- 28:34Roberts coming over, picked up.
- 28:36Eddie Rommel, the plate on fire says he wants to see the ball,
- 28:39looks it over,
- 28:40and then takes it out of play.
- 28:44The count of two balls and two strikes on Waddy Ford,
- 28:46the number nine hitter in the American League order,
- 28:48laying his first all-star game.
- 28:50The long guy gets things upset at the plate now,
- 28:53and Roberts straightens out of his trouser leg
- 28:56and moves up to the base of the plate on the left.
- 28:59Two ball, two strikes, the count on four.
- 29:02Bauer tries to wait in first base,
- 29:04Roberts checking them delivers a lot of hits
- 29:06from places taken at the need for called strike three.
- 29:09So that's all for Ford decides to retire here,
- 29:11in the last half of the second inning,
- 29:14that's three third strikeouts for Robin Roberts,
- 29:17and here in the last half of the second inning
- 29:19for the American League,
- 29:20no runs, there was one base hit,
- 29:22Hank Bauer single to left field,
- 29:24seven all-errors, and one man, Hank Bauer,
- 29:26left at first base.
- 29:27So the score at the end of two full innings of play now
- 29:30is the National League nothing, the American League nothing.
- 29:39In the third inning here,
- 29:41it will be the last third of the National League
- 29:43fighting order, Jackie Robinson,
- 29:45a left fielder followed by Rod Campanel,
- 29:47a capture, and Robin Roberts, the pitcher.
- 29:50Robin Roberts and the number is the switch hitter.
- 29:53Coming out to the mound, Robert Slally is 24.
- 29:57Moving on out to Pitchard's mound,
- 29:59Rose Setty, American League's full year defensively now
- 30:01as we get ready to come out to the third inning.
- 30:03It's toward on the mound with a record of seven wins
- 30:05and six losses in the regular season,
- 30:07making his first appearance in the All-Star game,
- 30:09his better remaining is Yogi Berra.
- 30:11Berra has appeared in seven All-Star games,
- 30:14that is this year's year seven.
- 30:16At first base, the crowd rose.
- 30:18At second base, Bobby Adela,
- 30:20all-star, the Cleveland Indian,
- 30:22the yellow-garage scale of the Schmuckleite shot.
- 30:24Third is Leibbun, the Pitchard's striker.
- 30:27Out in left field is Minimanosa, the light shot.
- 30:30In center field, Mickey Matlow, the Yankees,
- 30:32and in right field, Hank Barrow, the Yankees.
- 30:34All these men have been voted by you, the fans of America,
- 30:37to start this All-Game here this afternoon.
- 30:39Now, Jackie Robinson, the number 10 hitter in the National League,
- 30:42he's presented twice,
- 30:44starting at 3-21,
- 30:46stepping up there. Jackie's appearing in his sixth All-Star game.
- 30:50He's up for his first set back here this afternoon,
- 30:52hitting right-handed, standing in the deep of the plate.
- 30:55Big, powerful guy, can hit that all-round layup, boy,
- 30:58although the extra base blow,
- 31:00under the home run, is more of his specialty.
- 31:02He's hit only nine home runs this year,
- 31:04finding in 30 rounds.
- 31:06First off, he has gone out of the sixth base.
- 31:12Robinson hitting right-handed,
- 31:14has four closing fastball,
- 31:16and fires the great two-end of the lettuce for a call strike.
- 31:18All these starting teams here this afternoon.
- 31:25For the National League of Storm, 23 bases,
- 31:27the next few players over to wrap in Superstar 2.
- 31:30Last ball, will be timed by Whitey Claw.
- 31:35Now, the home run hit 230 by the spot,
- 31:38of National League of 116,
- 31:40has been hit by the starting eight.
- 31:43Here's to the National League.
- 31:48They have the power here this afternoon,
- 31:51as the paper figures are used as the main.
- 31:55More taking too much time,
- 31:57and Robinson back to waiting the plate on him.
- 31:59He's back up there now, and starts to notice
- 32:01the home run back.
- 32:03The old two-pitch by Whitey 40.
- 32:05Rare as back, deals with off-fastball,
- 32:07front-line, there's a high-bounder, hit the schlucks,
- 32:09carousel, gloves are down the big hole,
- 32:11and the one.
- 32:13Robinson bouncing out from short,
- 32:15carousel, the road.
- 32:17And we have one down here,
- 32:19top to third inning, and that brings on Roy Cappanella.
- 32:21Roy Cappanella!
- 32:27Roy Cappanella, who says he's going to go on and play,
- 32:29as long as that left hand of his will permit him to do so.
- 32:32Roy hitting right-hand, the big spot,
- 32:35usually when he has all of his strength,
- 32:39he's one of the toughest guys in business to pitch to.
- 32:41Roy towards him a hook, that's high,
- 32:43off the shoulder part, the ball one.
- 32:45Cappanella is starting at only 215.
- 32:47However, he has driven in 32 runs for his father,
- 32:50he's a 13-home run, and belazers in that,
- 32:52he has gone in one base this year.
- 32:55Roy can do a change-up curve,
- 32:57and Cappanella bounces right back to the screen.
- 33:00Cappanella bounces right up by the TV cameras over there,
- 33:02where Gene Kelly and Malala are working out.
- 33:05Roy Cappanella, who's got a total of
- 33:1243 innings in the all-star game, not counting this one.
- 33:16He's been running for a while, he's been quite a figure.
- 33:20One more one strike down to him,
- 33:22and now nobody on top of the third.
- 33:25No score in the ball game.
- 33:27Cappi opens his hands down towards third,
- 33:31he keeps his feet wide spread apart.
- 33:33Cappi's still a loose, and Cappi's gone against Longhorn.
- 33:36This one hits back to the screen,
- 33:38and that might go up over the screen in the crowd.
- 33:40As far as the breeze is concerned,
- 33:43here's Raffa-Noon, everybody, there just isn't any.
- 33:46All the flags are just limping flag balls,
- 33:49got quite brilliant sunshine,
- 33:51and a blue cloud of sky, and it is warm.
- 33:54Real warm.
- 33:56After being used, scorecards, fans,
- 33:59well, it's really tough.
- 34:01That's the kind of baseball what you dream about.
- 34:04Now, forward ready, here's the one, two, pitch, two, Campanella.
- 34:06Passball, high and outside, with ball two.
- 34:09Right now on to Slaysn identification time, too.
- 34:13We'll find out what happens with Campanella.
- 34:16We'll be able to...
- 34:17...fell out.
- 34:19Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go.
- 34:23Balls, forward ready, here's the two, two, pitch.
- 34:26A curve ball, a column, the Campanella and foul shift.
- 34:28Right back into the master plate, I'm trying to get Rommel.
- 34:31Guy had Rommel himself with about a major league picture.
- 34:37Rommel, the umpire, and she's behind the plate.
- 34:39Three ball and ten of the National League at first.
- 34:42Joe Paparello of the American League at second.
- 34:44Bill Stewart of the National League at third.
- 34:46He'll work three balls and strikes.
- 34:48In the last four and a half, anyway.
- 34:52Now, off to the next two, two, delivery, to Roy Campanella.
- 34:55He decides for it again, is taking too much time,
- 34:57and he backs out, just as Robinson did.
- 35:01Right back after the plate goes Roy, digs in, gets his strikes down in good.
- 35:04There, holds him in up into the pocket.
- 35:08Forward, umpire, delivers two, two, a curve ball,
- 35:10front on the Campanella and his foul again, back to the screen.
- 35:14He then bounces off the screen up into the first section.
- 35:19I like to have the vantage point here at Cleveland,
- 35:22and the final spot, guys, these thoughts you have along baseball row.
- 35:25Give me that leg here with my left,
- 35:27as we get vantage over working here for 77 ball games a year.
- 35:32Look right down over, catch your shoulder,
- 35:34look right straight up the dam.
- 35:36They do two pitch, a let up, pitch is outside.
- 35:39The cop is three balls and two strikes,
- 35:41and Roy Campanella.
- 35:42One off, nobody arms off of the third inning.
- 35:45Neither team has been able to score here
- 35:47in the 21st annual All-Star Game.
- 35:50Being played at the Unisport Stadium in Cleveland.
- 35:5224, get ready, go through the top of the poppin' delivery,
- 35:56the big curve, and Campanella swings in again, fouls the back.
- 36:00One thing for sure, Campanella is giving 24 quite a work out.
- 36:04The fans are getting quite a bounce out of it here this afternoon.
- 36:09Campanella calling for the batter's rosin bag,
- 36:11it's off his hands, his wrist and dry mouth.
- 36:15Drives back out to the plate now.
- 36:18Rocher moving back and forth to coach the ball.
- 36:21Rocher's back to the third.
- 36:23Charlie Graham moving back and forth to first.
- 36:28Hasn't been much fake traffic this afternoon.
- 36:31Three to pitch to Campanella.
- 36:32Pass ball, Campi takes it high, there's fake traffic, that's ball four.
- 36:37And before we get to Roberts,
- 36:38that's ball ten seconds for station identification.
- 36:41This is the Miss World, right?
- 36:43This is WGM, the Chicago Tribulation, serving the middle west.
- 36:58Look here to Robin Roberts as your batter.
- 37:02Big number 36 standing in his plate there right now.
- 37:05Getting right handed.
- 37:06He'll come up somewhat on the handle of that.
- 37:08He had one time patching himself as the first baseman
- 37:10when he was going to Michigan State College.
- 37:12He went up on the first pitch and fended right back to a tomorrow.
- 37:14That's 24th fielding.
- 37:15The pitcher goes first base in time.
- 37:17And just a moment, the play down fire
- 37:19had Ronald says that ball was in foul territory.
- 37:23And hits the foot of Robin Roberts,
- 37:25so he's calling the play back as a foul ball.
- 37:30That's where Campanella, who's often moving
- 37:32on that offensive sacrifice, has come back to first base.
- 37:36And Lee Bowlin, man, has called him back.
- 37:39Casey Sangle comes up.
- 37:40There he is standing on his own plate now,
- 37:42rocking to round a lot of the feeling
- 37:44to a first base up by Lee Bowlin's man.
- 37:48And Bowlin's man is coming down to claim
- 37:50that it was a foul ball.
- 37:52So it'll be straight to Robin McCobb on Robin Roberts.
- 37:58There's a high curve on Roberts trying to run it.
- 38:00He's got the break down in foul territory
- 38:02off to the left of the plate and it rolled up toward the mound.
- 38:05The whitey board coming off very nimbly like the cap to field it.
- 38:08But it was rolled out at his hip, Robert.
- 38:10In foul territory, and that was a foul ball.
- 38:12That was cracked down off to the left of the plate anyway.
- 38:16Don't forget there's no balls in one strike on Robin Roberts.
- 38:19Campanella leads the first pitchers made.
- 38:21There he is about this time.
- 38:22It's time to start.
- 38:23Bloom goes back to second base
- 38:24to carestell for the fourth foul on Campanella.
- 38:26He'll throw the first.
- 38:28George, an offensive sacrifice that results in the fourth foul.
- 38:31Bloom handling very well at third base.
- 38:34He came in charging quickly over toward pitchers mound.
- 38:40Playing effective carestell
- 38:42with a shoal stop for the fourth on Roy Campanella.
- 38:45Well, we have second out here in the top half of third inning.
- 38:49It's a five to six fourth foul on the offensive sacrifice.
- 38:51It's a good start with the extra-none.
- 38:53And that brings on the top of the batting order,
- 38:54Grandville Hamner, who flies the right field back in the first inning.
- 38:57Got it off today, hitting it 3-23.
- 38:59Well, a check is run at first.
- 39:02And look at the place.
- 39:03Hamner's clean.
- 39:04There's a high pop up.
- 39:05Hit down shortstop way.
- 39:06Carrot scale, flip the glasses, get down there.
- 39:07He's got it.
- 39:08That's all.
- 39:09The national lead has been retired here.
- 39:12And they've done half pop in the number three.
- 39:14I'll pop up by Hamner's shortstop.
- 39:16No runs, no base hits.
- 39:17No errors.
- 39:18One man was left off.
- 39:20And at the end of two and a half
- 39:21he needs to play on the All-Star game.
- 39:22Four is the national league nothing.
- 39:25The American league, nothing.
- 39:27By today's one-feet Gillette for smooth, refreshing shape.
- 39:31You've changed blade so easily,
- 39:33an quick rinse cleanser razor.
- 39:35Just as for the Gillette super speed razor,
- 39:38it's only $1 including blue blade dispenser
- 39:41and firing travel case.
- 39:48The last half of inning number three
- 39:50on the All-Star game from Cleveland.
- 39:52It's the top of the batting order now for the American league.
- 39:54And we've had a wrist motor so promised
- 39:56that nothing and nothing really stands up thick, doesn't it?
- 39:59Now it's really something to watch.
- 40:01And of course, this Robin Roberts is again proving
- 40:03why he's one of the game's great pitches.
- 40:05With those three strikeouts, he's only three away from the record
- 40:08held by Carl Hubble and Vandermeer, Johnny Vandermeer.
- 40:12But I'm glad you injected that
- 40:13because we'll be watching from now on as
- 40:15Minimum Enoso right-hand hitter swings on the first six,
- 40:17six of all at the end of the bat file
- 40:19down the first place line for strike one.
- 40:21Enoso a 313 hitter at game time.
- 40:23Died for the fifth and sixth shots
- 40:26in the American league with Al Rosen at 313.
- 40:29Glad to center field in the first inning
- 40:31so he's open one the other afternoon.
- 40:33Roberts delivers him a pass file.
- 40:35Piles of the screen for strike two.
- 40:41Now he'll stand around the left and playing deep.
- 40:43The left side of the end field playing deep
- 40:45with their positions.
- 40:47Get lunch yet third, a couple of steps behind third.
- 40:49Roll the centrifuge in the line.
- 40:51Short shot.
- 40:53In the hall between second and third playing deep.
- 40:55Lend a hammer back on the rim of the outfield grass
- 40:57in right center.
- 40:59Hit the plate right after all they've
- 41:01taken the captain Enoso who sits down to take it.
- 41:04One ball and two strikes to count on many.
- 41:06He keeps himself loose as action as the boys say
- 41:09and the trade keeps himself loose up there
- 41:11and always ready to hop either way.
- 41:13Right the open stance down towards third base.
- 41:16Sort of crouched on one knee.
- 41:18Looks as though he's about to spring off his right foot.
- 41:21One two pitch going to pass ball
- 41:23that's high off the base for ball two.
- 41:25Two balls and two strikes on minimum.
- 41:27Enoso leading off here in the last half of the third inning
- 41:30for the American League.
- 41:32That's the oldest ball game we've had.
- 41:35Only three hits in the game.
- 41:37Two for the American League.
- 41:39Both singles, one single hit for the National League
- 41:41back down Muzio.
- 41:43That arms curve is inside under the chin.
- 41:45That's ball three to Enoso.
- 41:53That's Enoso.
- 42:03Got my passes to give out.
- 42:05Hit the right handed.
- 42:07Three two count on him as Robert.
- 42:09He's around with that ball now.
- 42:11Watch this captain that looks at the middle of the target.
- 42:13A pass ball off the base.
- 42:15High off the ball four.
- 42:17The other third inning is open.
- 42:19Arm Enoso's drawing the second base on ball
- 42:21is giving up by Robert.
- 42:23And you know there's an old baseball adage.
- 42:25It says to walk the first man in an Indian cradle.
- 42:28We've so many times seen that go over the boards
- 42:30and down the drain.
- 42:32The way these pitchers go today.
- 42:34Let's see if that should happen in this case.
- 42:36Bobby Avila.
- 42:38The number two hitter in the American League at game time
- 42:40comes up to the plate.
- 42:42Bobby hitting right handed.
- 42:44He's singled into left field in the first inning.
- 42:46Getting the first hit of the ball game.
- 42:48Enoso who can fly is on the first.
- 42:50Kuzuski holds against him.
- 42:52The pitch is made and there's a hot pop ball coming right back here.
- 42:54Look at that ball.
- 42:56Right back here to our broadcasting booth.
- 42:58We always like to call out to the fellas that are in the first with us
- 43:01when a pop off is back because
- 43:03quite often that fellow will be a little busy
- 43:06working over some statistics or something.
- 43:08And if he doesn't see it he's probably gonna get hurt.
- 43:11So we try to keep each other's eyes
- 43:13just to whether or not pop balls are coming back this way.
- 43:15So if you hear either Jimmy or me
- 43:18shout out to one of our working to break these here.
- 43:21That's the reason for it.
- 43:23Now the whole one pitch to Bobby Avila.
- 43:26There goes Enoso. The pitch is made.
- 43:28Come on. There's a landslide hit.
- 43:30Now the first place flyer.
- 43:32Boy Enoso had a good jump there at first place.
- 43:34He was off and going.
- 43:36He's gotta come all the way back.
- 43:38This casey single had the boys plan hit and run.
- 43:41And this Enoso can go as we told you.
- 43:43We'd have to watch him.
- 43:47Robert's pitch.
- 43:49But he was gone before Robert to throw that ball.
- 43:54Look out on Bobby. Avila has no balls in two strikes.
- 43:57So as this guy again holds the impact on Harvind.
- 44:00Now though he may be going again.
- 44:02Robert goes to the top of the stretch.
- 44:04Hesitates.
- 44:05Hesitates HeESS grandmother.
- 44:08Iveso estará
- 44:17the Buckley now headed the second one.
- 44:21Let you back into the winning wave.
- 44:23You all start there.
- 44:25keluar both there and Camp!
- 44:27All the American League.
- 44:29We'll have to get back into the winning ways in the All-Star game.
- 44:34Have a quick run here.
- 44:36And let's see if we're going to have any action down in the bullpen.
- 44:39Yep, sure enough, Johnny Hadsamelli.
- 44:41The left hander from the New York Giants is down in the bullpen throwing for the National League.
- 44:46Johnny Hadsamelli.
- 44:48He's had quite a record this year too.
- 44:50Hadsamelli.
- 44:52I think left hander is Mickey Matl.
- 44:54Well, as always, the left hander is underfield in the first inning.
- 44:58He's 4-4-1.
- 45:00Runners taking their lead.
- 45:02Down comes the pitch to Matl.
- 45:04Up the stride and high for Ballwa.
- 45:06Jabonski crawls up shallow at third base.
- 45:08The second foul may be trying to drop the front down in the third base line and thereby get on below the base.
- 45:12The right side playing deep.
- 45:14Yadsfield slightly shaded the right playing very deep.
- 45:17Pitch a fast ball.
- 45:19Ball falls straight.
- 45:25Battle standing deep at the plate hitting left handed.
- 45:28Against the right hander pitching to Roberts.
- 45:30Well, the American League's Anvilio Kuntz-Legre is down in the bullpen warming up for them.
- 45:36Now Roberts, to the top of the stretch.
- 45:38Check his runners.
- 45:39Delivers.
- 45:40Matl swings.
- 45:41He's got a high curveball.
- 45:46That Matl was really trying to pull the pine of that one.
- 45:56Well, the American League has him on here.
- 45:58First and second.
- 45:59Nobody out last half of the third.
- 46:01This is the goal of opportunity so far.
- 46:03Matl scouts one ball and two strikes.
- 46:05He leans over the plate.
- 46:06Now Roberts checks his runner.
- 46:08Delivers the plate.
- 46:09Matl is out of there.
- 46:16Click out number four for Robert Roberts.
- 46:21Now he has to pitch to Yogi Berra, who is always a tough man.
- 46:24This guy, Yogi Berra, is known around the trade as one of the best basketball hitters in the business.
- 46:30I asked a couple of the American League pitchers one time, and that's a long go.
- 46:34I said, what do you pitch to Yogi Berra?
- 46:35It doesn't make any difference.
- 46:37He was pointing whatever he thinks of that moment looks good to him.
- 46:42Then for Vick to Yogi, he walks in the first.
- 46:44He's coming up to his first official at that now.
- 46:48That man hitter.
- 46:49Runners first and second.
- 46:50One out.
- 46:51Last of the third.
- 46:52No scorer.
- 46:53The pitch is a fast ball.
- 46:54Outside by Shea, Berra for ball one.
- 47:00Runner taking their lead.
- 47:01Down comes the pitch to Matl.
- 47:02It's outside and high for ball one.
- 47:05Jabonsky crawls up the shuttle at third base expecting Matl maybe trying to drop a front down in the third base line and they'll by get on below the base.
- 47:12The left side is playing deep.
- 47:14Yogi Berra slightly shaded the right and playing very deep.
- 47:17The pitch is a fast ball.
- 47:18Powered right to go up the way for a call straight.
- 47:26Battle standing deep at the plate hitting left handed.
- 47:28Against the right handed pitching to Robert.
- 47:31The American League's Ndelioprince Slega is down on the bullpen warming up the van.
- 47:36Now Roberts to the top of the stretch.
- 47:38Jester's runners delivers.
- 47:39Matl swings.
- 47:40Come on, he's got a high curve ball.
- 47:47That Matl was really trying to pull the pie into that one.
- 47:57Well, the American League has them on here.
- 47:58First and second.
- 47:59Nobody out last half of the third.
- 48:01This is the growth of opportunity so far.
- 48:03Matl counts one ball and two strikes.
- 48:05He leans over the plate.
- 48:06Now Roberts checks his runner.
- 48:07Delivers the plate.
- 48:08Fast ball.
- 48:09Four.
- 48:10That looks like three.
- 48:11Matl's out of there.
- 48:16Breakout number four for Robert Roberts.
- 48:21Now he has to pitch to Yogi Berra who is always a tough man.
- 48:24This guy Yogi Berra is known around the trade as one of the best bad balls hitters in the business.
- 48:30I asked a couple of the American League pitchers one time.
- 48:33Not so long ago.
- 48:34I said, what do you pitch Yogi Berra?
- 48:35It doesn't make any difference.
- 48:37He'll swing it whatever you think.
- 48:39So that moment looks good to him.
- 48:42The unpredictable Yogi walked in the first inning so he's coming up for his first official half back now.
- 48:48That's hand hitter.
- 48:49Runners first and second.
- 48:50One out last to the third.
- 48:52No score with a pitch.
- 48:54Shares a fast ball.
- 48:55Outside by Shade.
- 48:56The barrel for ball one.
- 49:01Yogi Berra who came from the hill in St. Louis.
- 49:06Certainly has become quite a figure in this big national fast time of ours.
- 49:12Bobby of Eilish-Tetzlop first.
- 49:14Minozo out second.
- 49:15Hotfield and slightly around the right and deep.
- 49:17This is one of the high level hung down right field line.
- 49:21Coming over for it is the right fielder and Van Katkevitz.
- 49:25He's in the stands and foul territory.
- 49:27That ball was pretty well poked.
- 49:29That's a loud strike.
- 49:33That sort of electrified the fouls instead of jammed in here at the municipal stadium.
- 49:37Well, a full stop that Yogi got in the hole a while.
- 49:42Got on him with one ball and one strike.
- 49:45One out, two on, last half to the third.
- 49:47No score.
- 49:50Right side of the infield playing deep.
- 49:52Suzuki, by the way, back to his fielding depth.
- 49:54The runner's the first in second.
- 49:56In comes the pitch from the plate.
- 49:58Very sweet.
- 50:00Well, that struck something off the fast ball that time.
- 50:03Yogi tried to tie it.
- 50:07Got another walk shot in front of the plate.
- 50:09Hotter's that ball back to the bottom of the rubber.
- 50:12OK, marrying down behind the third.
- 50:14Holds up fingers.
- 50:16Showing one out.
- 50:19One out, last half to the third.
- 50:21No score.
- 50:22Second, a V last first.
- 50:23Robertson trouble.
- 50:24And an alien of all time.
- 50:26In comes the pitch.
- 50:27Yogi swings hit the foul ball right up over our 2S microphone.
- 50:34In comes the pitch.
- 50:36Yogi swings hit the foul ball right up over our 2S microphone.
- 50:44Now holds one and two on Yogi better.
- 50:46And a new supply baseball is being brought out to play down bar at Rommel.
- 50:50You don't notice a difference in the umpires.
- 50:53The American League wears the wind pad.
- 50:56How much strapping over the outside of the court
- 50:58and holds it up on each pitch while the National League wears the protector under the coat.
- 51:03And then off hampered by that cleaning round out in front of him.
- 51:07So when Bill Stewart comes in behind the plate,
- 51:09he won't be hampered by the wind pad.
- 51:11Now we're ready. The one-two pitch.
- 51:12There's a high bounding ball to first. Kuzuski backs up, takes it, wins over Setson first place.
- 51:16The only play he can make.
- 51:17The runners move up a notch and we have the second out.
- 51:22Down to the bar for Al Rosen.
- 51:32On Yogi better, it's round out to first base.
- 51:34Bobby Abito, of course, moving over to second.
- 51:36Admin Imanoso moving down to third.
- 51:37There's two outs here in the last half of third inning.
- 51:40It's been placed fairly up to Al to do something about it.
- 51:44He committed the third out of the first inning with a man on his second base and a one on his first.
- 51:49Stuck out.
- 51:50Al would like to a tone forward if he possibly can.
- 51:54Right hand hitter standing in.
- 51:56Roberts pulls the top of the stretch.
- 51:58The livers, Rosen swings, hit the ball ball back to the screen.
- 52:01You can see Al is hampered by the stiff right finger on his index hand.
- 52:05He's the right hand, the index finger on his right hand.
- 52:10We had the opportunity of interviewing Al Rosen last night on the show.
- 52:16Clive to the broadcast with the ball game, head over to this network.
- 52:20And he was explaining what trouble he was having with that right hand.
- 52:23I said, well why don't you give it some much damage that I can?
- 52:26This is how it's going to work.
- 52:36Al Rosen, this right hand at all.
- 53:01Al Rosen, over to the left field, has three-one home run to put the American League ahead to read nothing.
- 53:07At Cleveland, Al Rosen.
- 53:11Al, the fans really chose a guy there.
- 53:13The man's way going up to play now.
- 53:15Takes the first pitch outside the ball one.
- 53:18Robin Roberts, that's up for a three-round home run here in the last half of third inning.
- 53:23Al Rosen did it with his little sledgehammer.
- 53:27Set on curveball to, what is outside the ball to.
- 53:36The interesting Chris Feigler, the old gray eagle here this afternoon.
- 53:40He's really helping to rest his right comfortably.
- 53:42He's really helping to rest his right comfortably.
- 53:44Al Rosen, over to the left field, has three-one home run to put the American League ahead to read nothing.
- 54:08Al Rosen, over to the left field, has three-one home run to put the American League ahead to read nothing.
- 54:15Al Rosen, over to the right field, has three-one home run to put the American League ahead to read nothing.
- 54:24Right on curve ball, throw it off the shoulder point.
- 54:27On the inside, go right hander, hit her, and bar her, count dollars, one ball and no strikes.
- 54:33These two home runs back to back have electrified the thousands who have come here to the Lakefront Stadium this afternoon.
- 54:40Robert Tready delivers an overhand pass ball, it's through there, the way for strikes.
- 54:45One bottom, one strike.
- 54:47You know there's always something good about seeing a fellow get up there and achieve something despite the use of handicap.
- 54:57Touch ball is thrown on the bar and hit the ball, count is one ball and two strikes.
- 55:02Knowing that several of these men playing here this afternoon are playing under the handicap of injury, those move one of them.
- 55:11One two pitch, one on by baller and hit the ball right back to the screen, so it's count holds it's run into.
- 55:21A lot of rattles had to give up on the all-star game because of a groin hip injury.
- 55:27Mike Garcia, the flying Cleveland pitcher, out of my city of California had to give up, he had a broken blood vessel and the little finger be sticking in.
- 55:35Now baller swings on a high curve and the first was like three.
- 55:38That's the side here in the last half of third inning, but it was a way up for the American League, that's because of strike after Robert Tready.
- 55:46Here in the third inning, for the American League they come up with four big runs on just three days hit, so no errors, nobody was left off.
- 55:57Goal of the four at the end of three followingings of play in the all-star game here at Cleveland, it's the American League four and the National League nothing.
- 56:05It's been a lot of ball game here so far, but hey mister, how you fix the blades?
- 56:12Cleveland blue blades of course with the sharpest edges ever home.
- 56:16Bottom in defense is with used blade compugnants and keep a couple of extra facts on hand.
- 56:25To the top half of the fourth inning, I'm going to have a new pitcher now for the American League, it's Sandelia Consuigra.
- 56:30Sandia Consuigra who is made to take the place of Garcia, he's a thunder right hander.
- 56:38Consuigra, holding in there now as the new pitcher.
- 56:44All that means is that the court is all through here, and we'll look at that after having fixed the three innings.
- 56:49And the Consuigra is just pinned on Sunday, so take the place of Mike Garcia.
- 57:05So Sandia Consuigra doesn't have much warning that he was going to play in the all-star game, but here he is out here now with a record of 10 wins and 3 losses, it's two shutouts this year.
- 57:16Here's Sandia Consuigra, slender right hander, the tee coming off.
- 57:22He'll pitch first of all to Alvin Dark here in the top half of the fourth inning.
- 57:32Alvin Dark standing in, Roger Wigler makes the first pitch to him and Dark takes it over for a strike.
- 57:38Dark is all for one this afternoon, he came up the first inning and popped up the shortstop.
- 57:49Dark nervous, he comes back, back, back and forth.
- 57:52Consuigra sweeps low in these pumping motions, delivers curve ball and stays high off the shoulder for ball one.
- 57:58One ball and one strike.
- 57:59And the Consuigra now doing the pitching for the American League, he has been handed the ball of holding, they fall on the advantage the American League has given.
- 58:09This ball, their ball to Dark is high, that's when he gets off the pace, that's ball two, two balls and one strike.
- 58:16Consuigra is sort of a nervous guy, very wiring, very thin, sort of spindly or full-leg.
- 58:31He comes with the pitch now to Dark and swings, out of the loop, that's why ball out into shortness.
- 58:35And the tee is coming on, it's making him out and makes a fine running catch to three-power Alvin Dark.
- 58:39Now we have one out to top the fourth inning, Sandy Consuigra now has gotten rid of Dark and he must face Duke Snyder.
- 58:52In three innings of pitching here this afternoon, Whitey Ford gave up only one hit pass, one man, start out nobody.
- 58:58But that was pretty good pitching chore for a young fellow who wasn't figured to get a catch starting here this afternoon, but he leaves the ball game with a full run advantage.
- 59:06Consuigra now pitching to Duke Snyder, who's gone over a lot, the ball to him is good for a strike.
- 59:15Started with a straightaway stand for the pitcher, over five figure to Snyder, plays some mighty fine baseball for the faithful over at Hebbitt's Field.
- 59:24The ball to him is far on hit, right back through the middle, up to center field where they hit Duke Snyder is off.
- 59:29That ball right where it was pitched, now that's the first hit off for Consuigra and the second hit from the National League and here's Sam Mizzio.
- 59:47You know those four runs, made in the last half of the third inning by the American League.
- 59:51It's been the largest since the first inning of the 1949 All-Star game at Hebbitt's Field. The American League also scored four in an in-in this.
- 1:00:02Sam Mizzio who's got the first hit, the ball game for the National League, queens on the first pitch and hit the high foul ball, coming right back this now, up on top, in the spectators, strike one on stand.
- 1:00:15Mizzio bumped the single in the right field in the second inning, was cut down a moment later when Ted Kruzewski hit into a fast double play as the second hitter in the top second inning.
- 1:00:26So the last in the league has gotten just two base hits, one by Stan Mizzio left by right now and one by Snyder who was on the first time at first base with one out.
- 1:00:35Walter Nuffins, everything's made in the American League, comes to work, pitches, fast balls, one on, hit it, and the ball goes in first and second into the right field. Mizzio has single, there goes the runner, Snyder moving on into the first base on the ball.
- 1:00:50So Sam Mizzio for two.
- 1:00:56Now Walter Mizzio made a dive at that ball, trying to stop it, but couldn't get near it.
- 1:01:00All the National League trying to retaliate here, like to wait back and get into the ball again, is Ted Kruzewski who can get that ball in the long run for him.
- 1:01:12Ted Kruzewski, back in the lead, and the ball goes in the long run, and the ball goes in the long run, and the ball goes in the long run.
- 1:01:28Ted Kruzewski from Argo Illinois in Allen, Cincinnati, plays this kid this year, has his 22 home runs for him, and is on his 67 run for him.
- 1:01:43What a powerful guy, and the ball goes in the long run.
- 1:01:46Got in the ball, Sam, looks to call Bob Lemon, he's starting to warm up for the American League. Bob Lemon.
- 1:01:51Now comes the leg red, Texas runners, the first and second, with one out here, the first and third.
- 1:01:59The pitch is for one as they come in, hit the ball in the first base, down into the right field corner, Snyder comes into the stall, Mizzio comes into the third base and holds up there.
- 1:02:09Ted Kruzewski, hits the high pounder over the road, and steps down along the right field line.
- 1:02:14What he means the long and third is going to get started from third easily with the first National League run.
- 1:02:18Now it's their 4-1 ball game, and for Kruzewski, is for a young batter in here this afternoon, hit number three up on Slickler, run number one.
- 1:02:27The batter coming up is Jeff Lunski.
- 1:02:30If you think it's a little spot on the third base from the range of Lunski, you can hit that long ball for you too.
- 1:02:35I've seen an exact couple that really took off and out of the park.
- 1:02:39Jeff Lunski always tied for the number three in fourth position in the National League, it's game time here.
- 1:02:48He runs that in with 73, he's tied with only Mays of the New York Giants who is on the fence right now.
- 1:02:55And here's 11-1 run, that's the number he uses on the back of his uniform, block 2 number 11.
- 1:03:02And Swayder delivers to him, it's a crossfire outside 4-1.
- 1:03:06All started when after dark, the batter hit through the middle for a single and Stan Musial moved him around the third on the single hit on the right field.
- 1:03:19Then Kruzewski found the high in the right field for a single to get to run in and put Musial on.
- 1:03:24It's the plate is low, Paul Tzotowicz of Lunski, Scott Hoss of Osmo Strike,
- 1:03:29Leo DeRosha's opening it up big behind third, gets to Lunski's attention, yells something at him, leading down off third, Stan Musial, hands on hips.
- 1:03:39Conthrack there, in trouble here, waiting around in hot water on the top of the court.
- 1:03:44Four to one ball game, the American League.
- 1:03:47Conthrack with Livers' curve, it's taken the faster, over for Strike off the hand, right on the In-Triple, it's got the top of the line.
- 1:03:53Two and one, two balls, one strike, down off Ray Jeff Lunski.
- 1:03:59He'll be followed by Jack Robinson.
- 1:04:02One out here on the top of the court, one is in first and third, one run has been scored by the National League, they're trying to get back into the ball game.
- 1:04:08And Jeff Lunski at the plate represents the trying run for the National League.
- 1:04:12Conthrack ready, delivers, the pitch is shot on, it's a long shot, it's a long shot, it's in the front of the field for the base track.
- 1:04:17Luzzi, the second to hold on as Musial comes in to score the second run.
- 1:04:23Conthrack almost slips the glove right off the hand, I'll put the con pleasure.
- 1:04:30They'll give Ray a run, Vannevin.
- 1:04:33That's the fourth hit of Conthrack with run number two, and they lead, and the American League has come half and two as the National League comes fighting back here in the top half of the court.
- 1:04:41Mr. Dudley, I wouldn't have missed this one for the world.
- 1:04:47I wouldn't have missed it for the world, Jeff.
- 1:04:50You know, Casey has been back plate for 15 stops this afternoon now.
- 1:04:56Sandy Consuelo Group was a substitute, and of course Casey is without the help of his big chief, Wahu Ali Reynolds, and without the big pair, Mike Garcia.
- 1:05:06Albert is far ahead of the plan record behind him. This is what the fans like to know, action and plenty of it.
- 1:05:13Well, they got action right now, and Jackie Robinson, they're hoping to produce even more for the National League here in the fourth inning.
- 1:05:19They picked up two runs, and the American League leads four to two.
- 1:05:23On the way to the pitchers, Robinson has to go to the first foul, it's a half foul on the first play five.
- 1:05:28Over to do the fans go to the opposing camp, Jeff.
- 1:05:31The opposing fans back to the American League dugout. Let's strike one down, Robinson.
- 1:05:45Moving on, Robinson first to second. Big head, Kruszyski on the second. Jeff Lunski is on the first.
- 1:05:52Both Kruszyski and Jeff Lunski have hammered in runs for the National League.
- 1:05:55And Robinson, who's rounded out as the first hitter in the third inning, rounded out from Shroff first, is up there right now.
- 1:06:03Robinson, who's worked game time, was starting at 321.
- 1:06:07Come to Edgar, goes to the top of the stretch. As it takes, Shroff takes his run on the second base.
- 1:06:11He's hit Kruszyski, backs off the mound and chases head back into second.
- 1:06:16Jeff Lunski moves away from first, closing back to the field.
- 1:06:18He's feeling death. In comes the pitch now. Robinson trying to hit the right field fouls it off the first base line.
- 1:06:26And while we have a few seconds, let's pause 10 seconds for a station identification.
- 1:06:30This is the mutual broadcasting system.
- 1:06:33This is WGN, the Chicago Tribune station serving the middle west.
- 1:06:37WGN, the Chicago Tribune station serving the middle west.
- 1:06:43Right back to the business of hand.
- 1:06:46Watching Johnson's go-ahead try to get out of the dip stalling. He has gotten in.
- 1:06:50Watching Robinson, he delivers on the second base line shot, hitting the right field foul on the mound.
- 1:06:54He's left in there for the next activation, up against the 380 foot sign.
- 1:06:58This comes for Kruszyski, in the third run.
- 1:07:01The renaissance over the plate. Jeff Lunski scores a straight up, a double for Robinson.
- 1:07:04Robinson coming on to release Guns-Wig-Rab.
- 1:07:13Guns-Wig-Rab came on, if you recall the pitch here in the North Ending.
- 1:07:19And coming out real fast as Bob Lemmon has come on.
- 1:07:24The man on the second base, Robinson, is the responsibility of the now departing Sandy Guns-Wig-Rab.
- 1:07:32Now let's see, Jeff and Ella will be the man that Lemmon will face, here in the North Ending.
- 1:07:38Bob Lemmon, he's been one of the mainstays of the Cleveland 15 staff, and one of the five figures in this game.
- 1:07:47The bottom of the thoughtful Lemmon coming in and Sandy comes later going out.
- 1:07:54Bob Lemmon, in the very 19 games for the Cleveland Indians this year.
- 1:07:58As close to the record of nine wins and five losses. He's the sixth off that you might hander.
- 1:08:07Lemmon is on the scene.
- 1:08:10There's the anaconda for him.
- 1:08:11That is one of the last.
- 1:08:15That is the only one left.
- 1:08:18Bob Lemmon with the record of nine wins and five losses.
- 1:08:29I have pitched one shutoff this year.
- 1:08:32And a tee down there now, standing on the mark, throwing the warm up pitches out of his battery and making Yogi better.
- 1:08:37Bob Lemmon, from San Bernardino, California.
- 1:08:47Bob number 21.
- 1:08:52He's now living in Long Beach, California. I believe his memory serves for that being.
- 1:08:57Jack got off into the second base. He drove in through here.
- 1:09:00Died it up into the top of the fourth inning. So it's all tied. 4-4. The runner Robin to the second.
- 1:09:07The responsibility out there for the parking zone swagger. He'll take stone in one-third of his fourth inning.
- 1:09:11Bob Campanella, who often the third inning. I've pushed that back now, officially.
- 1:09:15Lemmon, catches the runner back at second.
- 1:09:18The winner of the plate, Campanella takes a high curve from Bob for ball one.
- 1:09:24One bottom of the strike.
- 1:09:25Bob Lemmon is no stranger as far as play in the All-Star game is concerned.
- 1:09:32Bob's been chosen before.
- 1:09:36Now we're ready for the pitch.
- 1:09:38There it comes. Swarov by Campanella and popped up down third base way.
- 1:09:42Led on the foul line. It's Ray Burrill in fair territory. Making the catch for the second half.
- 1:09:48So Lemmon comes around, gets Campanella on a high foul ball to third base.
- 1:09:51And that brings up Robin Roberts to pitcher.
- 1:09:55But it's not going to be Roberts. It's going to be Don Mueller of the New York Giants.
- 1:09:59Don Mueller coming up the bat.
- 1:10:06There's an answer for Don.
- 1:10:14So Roberts goes three innings here, which he gave up four runs and five hits.
- 1:10:17Walked two and struck out five. And Don Mueller is coming up right now for it.
- 1:10:23Don Mueller of the New York Giants.
- 1:10:29Playing in his first All-Star game. Getting an opportunity here to pitch back.
- 1:10:33He's left handed hitter and as far as Don Mueller is concerned, in the way of about batting percentage,
- 1:10:40he's a fellow that's been up there very high in the National League.
- 1:10:42Bob Lemmon will be the guy to pitch to him now.
- 1:10:47Don Mueller is actually the number two hitter in the National League with a percentage of three, five, six.
- 1:10:52He is second.
- 1:10:54All-Nate to Duke Snyder.
- 1:10:56Bob Brooklyn who holds a percentage of three, sixty-seven.
- 1:10:59Don Mueller, quiet guy.
- 1:11:01Leans over to play, takes the first pitch down to the shins on the inside.
- 1:11:04Ball ball one.
- 1:11:05Don Mueller batting for Robin Roberts. Down in the bullpen and all warmed and ready to go.
- 1:11:12And I expect maybe Austin may use him left hander Johnny Antamelli.
- 1:11:16He'll be probably on here to pitch the last half before then.
- 1:11:20Lemmon gets set. Delivers an overhand curveball.
- 1:11:23All the sinks blow on that side.
- 1:11:26So the guy on Don Mueller now has two balls, no strikes.
- 1:11:29Jackie Robbins in representing the five-breaking run for the National League.
- 1:11:32Big stepping off at second base. It was his two-base blow on the right center field.
- 1:11:36Between Madeline Barr.
- 1:11:39Lot in the time run here in the top of fourth inning.
- 1:11:43Two down. Robinson, the sole base runner at second.
- 1:11:46Lemmon checking. Delivers a play.
- 1:11:48Mueller swings there's a five into right center field.
- 1:11:51That might be in the duper basis.
- 1:11:53He can't get this.
- 1:11:55Mueller's on his way to second.
- 1:11:56He's five to four of the National League.
- 1:12:07Bob Lemmon gives up a hit.
- 1:12:09The run is charged to Sunday.
- 1:12:11He can't swig grab.
- 1:12:13Who now can be the losing pitcher in this ball game if it should end this way.
- 1:12:15A third double.
- 1:12:17I've done a trick here.
- 1:12:19Robinson coming in easily.
- 1:12:21Down second base to star on Don Mueller's pinch hit.
- 1:12:23Double the right center field.
- 1:12:24So give me a learn.
- 1:12:26I run about it in.
- 1:12:29Five to four now.
- 1:12:31In favor of the National League we go to the top of the batting order for Grenville Handler.
- 1:12:33And the first pitch to him is outside the ball one.
- 1:12:40The last man to come to bat here for the National League will come run back not only to make up the deficit,
- 1:12:45but to go one run ahead as they leave five to four.
- 1:12:47Mueller sets off second.
- 1:12:49Lemmon delivers.
- 1:12:50The third ball that seemed to be just under the knee.
- 1:12:59Don Mueller from St. Louis, Missouri.
- 1:13:04On a second base.
- 1:13:06Randall Hammers-Lunges on the next pitch is a high bounding ball to Brunette 30.
- 1:13:09He's up with it.
- 1:13:11First base to Roseland's arm.
- 1:13:13And the Mike Pan retires to recover the shot.
- 1:13:15So I was about to beginning here.
- 1:13:16In the fourth ball of the National League.
- 1:13:19They come up with five big runs.
- 1:13:21Let's see.
- 1:13:23Five six-page hits.
- 1:13:25There were no errors.
- 1:13:27And there was a man left off.
- 1:13:29So after three and one half innings of play here at the All-Star Game in Cleveland,
- 1:13:34the score is the National League five, the American League four.
- 1:13:41Hello.

- 1:14:28So ended the last half of the 4th inning.
- 1:14:41which the markruk scored six times in a 5th inning.
- 1:14:44This is the second bigger than The Null Star play.
- 1:14:53Johnnie Agile, the fire left hander of the New York Giants coming on.
- 1:15:06This is the guy who, before the season started, many people doubted the fact that he was going to be shot for the New York Giants,
- 1:15:19but my old friend Russ Rogers said to me, how do you watch this boy? He's going to be good, and he is.
- 1:15:24Johnnie Antonetti, 15th pass to Cal.
- 1:15:27Look down into left field and sit there for a base hit.
- 1:15:30Keep on pass here, leading off here in the fourth inning for the American League.
- 1:15:33Look to the left.
- 1:15:34Antonetti is giving up his first hit.
- 1:15:39Johnnie Antonetti.
- 1:15:41And that's 15 now. He's won 13-years-old, 0-6-4 shutout.
- 1:15:48Check with him. Listen to the calls.
- 1:16:13Nice ball feet in the hook and on in his three.
- 1:16:15Well that's happening now, hitting left handed.
- 1:16:17Facing Johnny Attenami who fires the fastball to him and pucks it over to Mies for call strike one.
- 1:16:21Attenami fighting for Lemons who pitches two-thirds of an Emmy here for afternoon.
- 1:16:26We'll have a new pitcher for the American legion that's off half of their finish.
- 1:16:30Ted Williams.
- 1:16:32Having a three-sixty-seven to the regular season playing in 40 ball games.
- 1:16:36Injuries and all, he's been right in there.
- 1:16:37Lean-sucked behind curveball under the chin.
- 1:16:40The shot is one-bottom one strike.
- 1:16:42The shot is one of the most significant figures in this game.
- 1:16:44A career interrupted tricep over water service and by any number of injuries,
- 1:16:49he's still dead in there back.
- 1:16:50Right, he's no kid.
- 1:16:53Ted Williams firing for Tom Lemons.
- 1:16:55Tickle, carousel.
- 1:16:57Let off here in the inning with a single.
- 1:17:00That swings on the next pitch and peeps a ball right into the cloud for strike two.
- 1:17:03His shot is one ball and two strikes.
- 1:17:14Sonny Attenami standing out on the 5-11 of the ball.
- 1:17:22Park forward with a tie run on now for the American legion for space.
- 1:17:26Attenami came on here in the fourth inning.
- 1:17:30Pitch is now to whatever is inside.
- 1:17:32Right, that's all two.
- 1:17:34Two balls and two strikes.
- 1:17:37That's what I think will all remember.
- 1:17:40The all-star game here this afternoon.
- 1:17:42We all have a feeling this is going to be one of those all games that a lot of people have talked about for a long, long time to come.
- 1:17:48There's a three-star back and forth already.
- 1:17:50Park forward off a national league.
- 1:17:57Williams, swing off.
- 1:17:59That's the first ball.
- 1:18:01That's the first ball.
- 1:18:05That's what I'm gonna say.
- 1:18:07My personal achievement.
- 1:18:09I'll only be striking out.
- 1:18:11I'll just run this one.
- 1:18:13Williams goes back to the house.
- 1:18:15Coming up is Minoso.
- 1:18:17Who's played the federal role.
- 1:18:19Minoso was on in the third inning and worked around on the single.
- 1:18:22A round out and then when Rose and Eddie three-round won the most, it was one of the members four for the American League.
- 1:18:29Minoso leading off with a play.
- 1:18:31That's another ready.
- 1:18:32So, it was a big lead up.
- 1:18:33So far, high on that side.
- 1:18:34Minoso for ball one.
- 1:18:37Johnny Hansen on it.
- 1:18:39He's a great pitcher for the national league.
- 1:18:42Record of 13-2 and four shutouts.
- 1:18:45Raven Roberts.
- 1:18:47I'll say we have the last field.
- 1:18:51We'll pick it up for him.
- 1:18:53It's in there for a face in.
- 1:18:57And the flow comes on in.
- 1:18:59So, second base.
- 1:19:02That's going to be last third.
- 1:19:04Minoso, swing to any right side.
- 1:19:08The second we have field for you now.
- 1:19:10All right, that's the shankers.
- 1:19:12That's the shankers.
- 1:19:17In left field, Muzio moves over to play left field for the national league.
- 1:19:22Sam Muzio moves over here in the ball setting to play left field.
- 1:19:26William A. comes in center.
- 1:19:30Look nice in front of field.
- 1:19:32We'll check that right fielder for you.
- 1:19:34I think that's Duke Sutter moves over to right.
- 1:19:37I think Duke Sutter has moved over to right field.
- 1:19:40Got to have another now facing Avila.
- 1:19:46In comes a pitch to Avila.
- 1:19:48And it's a little to ball one.
- 1:19:50Sutter has moved over to right field everybody.
- 1:19:54The footwork of Sutter in right field in the fourth inning when it mazes by in center.
- 1:20:00Coming out of the ball again will be Robinson.
- 1:20:04So you have to put mazes in Robinson's spot.
- 1:20:06It's now to right handed batting Bobby Avila.
- 1:20:10Here's a close curve.
- 1:20:12He'll check on the first swing.
- 1:20:16He's playing center field nationally here in the fourth inning.
- 1:20:24And also on the first.
- 1:20:26Garry Scow is on the third.
- 1:20:28One out.
- 1:20:299-1 for the American League on at third base.
- 1:20:31So Mr. Anthony Nellie has his work cut out for him.
- 1:20:33Avila looks around at Marty Merriam.
- 1:20:35Coaching down at third.
- 1:20:36See if there's a sign of any kind.
- 1:20:37Is Jablonsky moves up Scallow at third.
- 1:20:39Holding Scallow as close as possible.
- 1:20:41And another check she's got.
- 1:20:42Delivers a curve ball.
- 1:20:44Come on.
- 1:20:45There's a loopy slide to left.
- 1:20:46News he'll come in for.
- 1:20:47Granted there's a backup.
- 1:20:48And the curve ball to second base.
- 1:20:50And the run comes in fourth.
- 1:20:58Back to right fly in the left field.
- 1:21:00Gives Bobby Abira a run back in.
- 1:21:03The run scores up Johnny Anthony Nellie.
- 1:21:05And it's now five and five.
- 1:21:06So a death penalty small game to win a move.
- 1:21:09And a whole run.
- 1:21:11Got all being gotten here by the American League.
- 1:21:13And the fourth inning belong to Bob Lemon.
- 1:21:15So Lemon.
- 1:21:17Much more to be the winning pitcher.
- 1:21:19If any more runs come into score.
- 1:21:21And the American League remains ahead.
- 1:21:23Of course that all remains from the last of the baseball.
- 1:21:25Garg and we'll have to wait and see.
- 1:21:27Coming up and playing out of Mickey Mouse.
- 1:21:30And also of course on that fly ball to left field.
- 1:21:32Holding on to the first base.
- 1:21:33When the curve came in to second base.
- 1:21:35From San Mujil.
- 1:21:39So one run has been slowed here to five and five.
- 1:21:42And Mickey Mouse for the first time.
- 1:21:43The first time the start of the new running right hash.
- 1:21:45There's a full to first.
- 1:21:47And also just to remember him ahead of him.
- 1:21:49He's just the farthest the ball back to the mark.
- 1:21:52Johnny Anthony has given up the one run inside the ball game.
- 1:21:54And the foul ball with the man on is up to the play.
- 1:21:56In comes the pitch Mickey take.
- 1:21:58Outside the ball one.
- 1:22:02There are two down here in the fourth inning.
- 1:22:04To the tie breaking run.
- 1:22:06And very sweet for the Mini Minosa.
- 1:22:08Horizontal for his base.
- 1:22:09Mickey Mouse left that try to do something about it.
- 1:22:11He's gone over two today.
- 1:22:12Slide to center and stuck out.
- 1:22:14Swing to the fifth and doesn't get it.
- 1:22:16A big lot of bad balls.
- 1:22:18Mickey left that ahead of him.
- 1:22:32On to that end taking a slap in Kaplanala.
- 1:22:38So should the play then close over the first Minosa.
- 1:22:41Has been warned of Anthony's quick motion to first base.
- 1:22:44Back to the head of it.
- 1:22:45And Kuzuski still remains on the inflight corner.
- 1:22:48That was it.
- 1:22:49Down comes the pitch.
- 1:22:51Tell on the manlers and high bounding call to first.
- 1:22:53Jablonski has it goes to first base for the after Kuzuski.
- 1:22:55And that's the third one to retire the foul.
- 1:22:58So all the man will pass the ball to the side of the side.
- 1:23:00Here first to first in the fourth inning.
- 1:23:02But it was a protective inning for the American League.
- 1:23:04It seems I'm getting back into the ball game on an even footing.
- 1:23:06One run for the American League here in the fourth inning.
- 1:23:09There were two base hits.
- 1:23:10One sacrifice to lie.
- 1:23:11That's for the tie breaking run.
- 1:23:13Seven or errors.
- 1:23:15One man was left on.
- 1:23:17Four men have been left on out by the American League
- 1:23:19and going to that fourth time.
- 1:23:21And the fourth inning to play now
- 1:23:23is the American League five.
- 1:23:25The National League five.
- 1:23:30Well I don't know Mr. Dudley if you could have anything more even
- 1:23:33in the baseball game than we've had here this afternoon in Cleveland.
- 1:23:36Well I don't know when they started this back in 1933.
- 1:23:39They turned it a fan stream game.
- 1:23:42And that's what the fans are witnessing this afternoon.
- 1:23:45Already the score is five and five.
- 1:23:48The National League is at two pitches.
- 1:23:50The American League is now coming on with its fourth pitch of all port of field.
- 1:23:54And they say how that a ball club is no better than your bench.
- 1:23:58When Ronald Alston pulled out of John Mueller
- 1:24:00with that double into right center
- 1:24:02he knew just what he was doing.
- 1:24:04But this is the way the fans like it.
- 1:24:06A thriller second.
- 1:24:07Score is five and five.
- 1:24:08Same number of hits.
- 1:24:09Seven or eight.
- 1:24:10And right now one of the American League's top right handers
- 1:24:13Bob Porterfield got victory of last year
- 1:24:16in the junior circuit coming on to pitch.
- 1:24:19It looks like we're going to get the same amount of excitement
- 1:24:22and gene play in the second half that we've had in the first half.
- 1:24:28Well it's the Bob Porterfield as you saw the first coming on here.
- 1:24:33He has one guard.
- 1:24:35And it's all seven.
- 1:24:37It's and five to httpumnesota.
- 1:24:40And right under the right field here.
- 1:24:42And four and five..
- 1:24:45And one of those got to ride next way for Ted Williams.
- 1:24:55he's
- 1:24:55coming on.
- 1:25:03He's
- 1:25:03in
- 1:25:03He's
- 1:25:06When we make him out of the right field, we have Mini Manosov, the latest Alvin Darksbott,
- 1:25:11Porterfield, pitches to a left curve, but inside for ball one.
- 1:25:15Ball has come out of the ball game, so Porterfield has to win in the end spot of the batting order.
- 1:25:22That'll be the number seven spot.
- 1:25:25Porterfield delivers, dark takes.
- 1:25:27Low, and outside on the fast curve ball for ball two.
- 1:25:31A put Porterfield in and in the end spot.
- 1:25:38That's a not Porterfield ball game to win or lose, as it is Antonelli.
- 1:25:43The two-nothing delivery is a fast ball fired through under the letters to strike one call.
- 1:25:48Five and five between the National and American League here, a top half of the fifth inning.
- 1:25:53Dark to be followed by Schneider and then by Muzio.
- 1:25:57All the changers have Williams and left field, while Porterfield on the mound.
- 1:26:02Those are for two changers.
- 1:26:04Porterfield pitching, Yogi Berwick catching.
- 1:26:07Infield remains the same as started the ball game.
- 1:26:09Williams now in left, Madeline Center, and in right field Manosov, ours out of the ball game.
- 1:26:13Porterfield ready, delivers two long dark takes under the knees for ball three.
- 1:26:18Muzio's in the lead, and a foul from one strike.
- 1:26:28Porterfield getting set.
- 1:26:30Looks out of Yogi Berwick, gets the time.
- 1:26:32Dark waits for four of the three-one delivery.
- 1:26:37Old command she's gone, hole for two.
- 1:26:39Locked up from Schneider, brings on a six-cent or five-hour center field.
- 1:26:43Madeline will ease the end.
- 1:26:44It makes the catch foul number one.
- 1:26:46It's a good time for our darkest driver center field to make him out.
- 1:26:49That'll bring up Duke Schneider, who ended the inning in the first with a slap on the left field,
- 1:26:53Manosov who's then playing in left.
- 1:26:57And then he came along in the fourth inning and smacked one right back through the middle.
- 1:27:04It's off a base hit, so Schneider now eyes one for two.
- 1:27:08Duke, number four standing in, another California boy.
- 1:27:14And another fellow who, by sheer determination, has become a fine baseball player.
- 1:27:18Jose from that foul, does Porterfield outside.
- 1:27:21Ah, I forgot the ball one this matter.
- 1:27:23The front-tander batter started off today as the number one hitter in the Lachlan League,
- 1:27:26batting a three-sixty-seven.
- 1:27:28One hole pitch towards an overhand curveball.
- 1:27:30It's coming across right up the street like to it.
- 1:27:32Oh, no scuff that.
- 1:27:33But Duke, I would have had it through the near.
- 1:27:35Jimmy, you should have warned me about that.
- 1:27:37I had my hand on it, but that was all.
- 1:27:43That's one two-bleak tee.
- 1:27:46One-on-one, there's a guard here on Duke Schneider.
- 1:27:49Of course, you can't catch a baseball and you got a handful of pencil.
- 1:27:54Another one-one pitch to Duke Schneider.
- 1:27:56Porterfield comes twice to a little bit of a pass ball.
- 1:27:58Schneider swings on it and hits the through in the right field.
- 1:28:02Or a base hit.
- 1:28:04Duke Schneider's been a ground ball between first and second and the right.
- 1:28:07Big college drive, didn't make it.
- 1:28:13That's the eighth base hit.
- 1:28:15Well, the national league.
- 1:28:175-1, 28 hits.
- 1:28:22That news hill coming up to the plate now is batting a three-sixty in all-star competition.
- 1:28:27He's had 13s and 36s.
- 1:28:29And news hill this afternoon has had two for two.
- 1:28:32So with one-on, there's one-on.
- 1:28:34Here, represents the tie-back he runs for the national league at first base.
- 1:28:38Porterfield delivers, news hill takes the curve.
- 1:28:40Over the out-star corner, nice to be first-front.
- 1:28:43Stan news hill, playing in the leg-front stadium here for the first time in his baseball career.
- 1:28:49And a lot of occasions, there's a lot of problems to our game.
- 1:28:53Stan leans over to plate, wiggles himself into position.
- 1:28:55There's a throw to first.
- 1:28:57It's not in time, as matter gets back to it.
- 1:28:59Rosen slips the ball back to the mound of Porterfield.
- 1:29:04White-Luck-Boff delivers, curve ball, news hill swings on.
- 1:29:06There's a high pop up out into the very short-Luck-Field.
- 1:29:09Going back for it, his counter-scaler shuts off.
- 1:29:11Williams comes on, but it's counter-scaled to make the catch.
- 1:29:14And Satter, hurries back to first base.
- 1:29:16Checking it out here in the top half of the inning.
- 1:29:19Light up ball, game at 5-5.
- 1:29:21The batting ball is hit for Zuzki.
- 1:29:24Head's batted in one of the three-five runs.
- 1:29:28The National League here today.
- 1:29:30Rub it in in the fourth inning of the single.
- 1:29:33Head into right field.
- 1:29:35Satter.
- 1:29:38That's Zuzki hitting right down.
- 1:29:40Game time batting at 3-12.
- 1:29:42The National League first baseman for the Cincinnati Reds.
- 1:29:45Porterfield ready.
- 1:29:46The Lippers in the fastball.
- 1:29:47That after the rules, there is a hard-ratch kick into right field.
- 1:29:50But also close back kick, but up there,
- 1:29:53the goal's into right field.
- 1:29:54Satter, head to field.
- 1:29:59Head to field.
- 1:30:04Satter, head to field.
- 1:30:09Head to field.
- 1:30:14Head to field.
- 1:30:19He's got a hollow on the corner field fastballs and ready to go.
- 1:30:253-1 batted in now for Zuzki.
- 1:30:27Here's Jeff Lunski.
- 1:30:297-5 ball game.
- 1:30:30Head to the National League.
- 1:30:31Porterfield ready.
- 1:30:32The Lippers.
- 1:30:33Jeff Lunski swings into high-bounded ball down back up third.
- 1:30:35Poon is up with it.
- 1:30:36There is his go to first base in time and Jeff Lunski is up.
- 1:30:39Well, we've had some action here in the first...
- 1:30:42a lot of happenings with this ball game.
- 1:30:44Let's see, here in the fifth inning.
- 1:30:46Two big runs for the National League for the Matic Park.
- 1:30:49Two runs on a single and a home run.
- 1:30:52The home run hit by Zuzki.
- 1:30:54Those are the only two hits.
- 1:30:56They were no arrows and nobody's left on.
- 1:30:58The National League is left on two and a half.
- 1:31:00He's going to backfire time.
- 1:31:02At the end of the third one and a half inning,
- 1:31:04I'll play here at Cleveland.
- 1:31:06The ball stands...
- 1:31:08...leaked by...
- 1:31:14...the wide Gillette's newest and lathered shaving cream.
- 1:31:17It's called foamy.

- 1:32:06We are the National Candles in the National League set up.
- 1:32:09Also in the National League set up.
- 1:32:12We'll have a change of one fire.
- 1:32:14So if Bill Stewart comes back behind to play with Mary Romo,
- 1:32:16it goes over to take the third.
- 1:32:18And it's my pleasure and pleasure to introduce the five known for the right time.
- 1:32:21All those games, hard of reputation here in the middle of the night.
- 1:32:24And the five must get.
- 1:32:26Would you like to introduce Bill for the last half of the ball game?
- 1:32:28Jimmy Dunn. Come on, Jim, it's all yours.
- 1:32:30Thank you very much, Al.
- 1:32:32And let's hope that the second half of his building is the first half.
- 1:32:35He gives himself well.
- 1:32:37He's leading seven to five, a couple of changes.
- 1:32:39Randy Jackson of the Chicago Cups is now at third base in place of Randy Hamlet.
- 1:32:45And Red King Deans is at second base in place of...
- 1:32:49Our King Deans is at second base in place of Hamlet.
- 1:32:52And in place of Diplomps, he at third, is Randy Jackson.
- 1:32:55Yogi Berra leads off.
- 1:32:57The first pitch joined me, tries the punt.
- 1:32:59Foul down the third baseline for strike one.
- 1:33:02National League seven.
- 1:33:04American League five. As the National League has came up with two beginnings.
- 1:33:07Five runs in the fourth and two in the fifth.
- 1:33:10Yogi Berra attempting to get on base,
- 1:33:12but he lost that in the 5,000th pitch.
- 1:33:16Johnny Encinelli, one of the...
- 1:33:18And it's my pleasure.
- 1:33:21And for everybody to introduce the five,
- 1:33:22I'm Bill for the right time.
- 1:33:24All those games, hard of reputation here in the middle of the night.
- 1:33:26And the five must get.
- 1:33:28Would you like to introduce Bill for the last half of the ball game?
- 1:33:30Jimmy Dunn. Come on, Jim, it's all yours.
- 1:33:32Thank you very much, Al.
- 1:33:34And let's hope that the second half of his schooling was successful.
- 1:33:37He gave it so well.
- 1:33:39The National League leading seven to five, a couple of changes.
- 1:33:42Randy Jackson of the Chicago Cup is now at third base in place of Randy Hamlet.
- 1:33:47And where's Candice?
- 1:33:49Is at second base in place of...
- 1:33:52Our Candice is at second base in place of Hamlet.
- 1:33:55And in place of Diplomps, he at third, is Randy Jackson.
- 1:33:58Yogi Berra leads off.
- 1:33:59The first pitch joint, he flies the punt, fouled down the third base line for strike one.
- 1:34:04National League seven, American League five.
- 1:34:07As the National League has came up with two beginnings,
- 1:34:10five runs in the fourth and two in the fifth.
- 1:34:13Yogi Berra attempting to get on base,
- 1:34:15but he's off better here in the last half of the fifth.
- 1:34:19Johnny Anthony, one of the...
- 1:34:21Fires left-handers of the National League,
- 1:34:23obtained by the New York Giants from the Milwaukee Braves,
- 1:34:26into the windup. The pitch is one of those lines left,
- 1:34:29out of the shortstop, better than that field of 8-5.
- 1:34:31Stan Learfield coming over five, the color makes the turn.
- 1:34:34He's held it first, a single, on the throwback to the end field.
- 1:34:38And there we go again.
- 1:34:41As the American League bounces right back.
- 1:34:45Stepping into the batter's box is number seven, Al Rosen,
- 1:34:49whose home run in the third inning has counted for three of the American League's runs.
- 1:34:54American League led, four to nothing at the end of three.
- 1:34:57Right-hand batter.
- 1:34:59Anthony, the pitch is a strike to the outside corner of the aisle.
- 1:35:03Bill Stewart, veteran officers back to the plate
- 1:35:06for the last half of the ballroom.
- 1:35:08Anna Pickers at first, balance planters at second.
- 1:35:10Eddie Ramos moves to third base.
- 1:35:13Strike one to count, the run leaves.
- 1:35:15The pitch is inside, Rosen holding back on his wings.
- 1:35:18The ball one, down his evens evens.
- 1:35:21Ball one and strike one.
- 1:35:23And the red coming up with his first hit of the ball
- 1:35:25for him, he had had a walk previously.
- 1:35:28So the American League has now have a total of eight years.
- 1:35:32Here's the stretch.
- 1:35:34The pitch is high and outside.
- 1:35:35The count is two and one.
- 1:35:37Ball zero and strike one to count.
- 1:35:39The odd field is at least, and well around the left.
- 1:35:43Van Muir's the old deep and straight away,
- 1:35:45almost back to the edge of the track in left field.
- 1:35:48And William A. of the New York Giants,
- 1:35:51the red center towards the 380 mark.
- 1:35:54They're on the trace, there's nobody out in the last of the fifth.
- 1:35:57Here's the pitch, one on the left.
- 1:35:59Balling, balling and it is down, well behind.
- 1:36:26Here ladies and gentlemen, is Sully and all four of the farmers.
- 1:36:30Two home runs and two turns to pass.
- 1:36:32Well, Rosen and five runs, let it in.
- 1:36:38This ball game is again tied up, deadlocked at seven and seven.
- 1:36:43Nobody out, Ray Brown stepped in.
- 1:36:45He hit a home run his last time up.
- 1:36:47Longs and LA pitches, ball one high.
- 1:36:51Ball one to count.
- 1:36:56That ties the all-star record for most home runs in the game.
- 1:37:02Two, set by Orquivon of the Pittsburgh Clarence back in 1941.
- 1:37:07Orquivon, at least, the Pittsburgh Clarence.
- 1:37:11The next pitch, ball two high and out five,
- 1:37:13but got it through and nothing.
- 1:37:15And now Roy Campanella moves out the drop to the pitch
- 1:37:17with Johnny Antonelli.
- 1:37:20Antonelli has been one of the big reasons
- 1:37:22why the New York Giants are leading the national league.
- 1:37:26This year, he has come along in great strides.
- 1:37:32Leo DeRosha is very happy about that field.
- 1:37:36Here's the wind up, but you and nothing stick.
- 1:37:38Well, on a ground ball down the third base line,
- 1:37:40taken by Jackson on the big hop.
- 1:37:42The sort of person who moves out, one away.
- 1:37:48And now Gritzen, warming up down in the bullpen.
- 1:37:50One out.
- 1:37:52And the score is 7-7.
- 1:37:54Right now, it's far 10 seconds for station identification.
- 1:37:57This is the mutual broadcasting system.
- 1:38:00And this is WGN, the Chicago Tribune Station,
- 1:38:03Chicago, in up and saving the middle west.
- 1:38:11Back at Cleveland's municipal stadium.
- 1:38:13The last half of the fifth inning, one out, Bob Protofield.
- 1:38:16The right-hand batting, and the first pitch.
- 1:38:18And Lyons running through that field,
- 1:38:20but Newfield, most of them out, and it makes the catch.
- 1:38:23The Lyons drive into left field,
- 1:38:25off about a pop water field, one of the better hitting pitchers
- 1:38:28in the major league today.
- 1:38:30There are two outs, and nobody outs.
- 1:38:36By the way, Al Rosen has not only tried the home run record
- 1:38:39in all-star competitions, but the record for most runs
- 1:38:42batted in in a single game.
- 1:38:44In the first half of the fifth inning,
- 1:38:46he has tried that one.
- 1:38:48But Williams, of Boston did it in 46.
- 1:38:51Tico Garrys-Gell is the batter.
- 1:38:53Right-hand hitting shot-shot.
- 1:38:55First pitch, he fouls it, off to the right of the plate.
- 1:38:59Mike Lund.
- 1:39:01Bob Grissom, the oldest player on the National League squad
- 1:39:06for this year's All-Star Game,
- 1:39:08is warming up down in the low back.
- 1:39:13Like Lund account, Ansonelli into the wind-up.
- 1:39:15The pitch is high and outside for ball one.
- 1:39:18One-and-one account.
- 1:39:20Fans are getting a big kick out of the National League umpire,
- 1:39:23Bill Stewart, who is very dramatic, spectacular in his work.
- 1:39:27Fine umpire.
- 1:39:29The next pitch is a straight call to the inside corners.
- 1:39:32Ansonelli both the serves in on the right-hand batter.
- 1:39:36Ball one and strike two with two out, and nobody on.
- 1:39:39Two runs at home, the ball game is tied up 7-and-7.
- 1:39:44On deck is Ted Williams.
- 1:39:48If Garrys-Gell can get on, you can bet your boots.
- 1:39:50The fans will be calling for more action.
- 1:39:54Lotfield is around to the left, big hole open in right center.
- 1:39:59The one-and-two pitch, Ace bringing a miss.
- 1:40:01Tone change-up, he struck him out.
- 1:40:03Garrys-Gell goes down for the third out, retiring the side.
- 1:40:08That is Ansonelli's second strikeout from Pearson in the ball game.
- 1:40:12In the fifth inning for the American League, two runs on two hits.
- 1:40:16And the score at the end of five innings is National League 7, American League 7.
- 1:40:24Fans know of the Razor Honour is in the same league with the one-feet Gillette.
- 1:40:29It gives you easy shade, and talk about convenience, you change plays in a different...
- 1:40:43Now going into the first half of the sixth inning with the National League at bat, number 24,
- 1:40:48William Mayne, making his first appearance in an all-star game.
- 1:40:52Just a couple of years ago, an unknown in organized baseball, as far as the major league are concerned,
- 1:40:58he has come on to become one of the most spectacular, amazing stars of the 1954 season.
- 1:41:0431 home runs to his credit. This year, a National League competition.
- 1:41:09Mayne's heat spread far apart, waiting for the pitch.
- 1:41:13The wind up, the pitch is on and grounded fouls, down the third base line, out of play.
- 1:41:18Right one.
- 1:41:28Now warming up in the National League, well, then, is number 21, Lawrence Farm, prep fender.
- 1:41:34Right one to come on, William Mayne, for the field pitches, ball went high and outside.
- 1:41:42Strong right-handers from the Washington, Connecticut, like Leninghamna, another fine Virginia boy.
- 1:41:51The OK's the time, the pitches went on and fouled high over toward the American League dugout.
- 1:41:56Howlersen moving over, but he won't be able to get it. It drops back in the trial, out of play.
- 1:42:02There's the usual scramble for a foul ball, a souvenir of the all-star game of 1954.
- 1:42:09Connect with that $85 fruit. There's a $2.85 fish ball rolling around over there.
- 1:42:18Roll one and strike two on the batter, William Mayne.
- 1:42:22Mayne does come along so fast that he is now being reckoned as one of the top stars of the game.
- 1:42:30Connects, just one, there's a half-drive going on at the left field.
- 1:42:33And the Oaks, Ted Williams moves back on the track in front of a pension he has there.
- 1:42:39William Mayne is first time up in the all-star game, giving the fans a real thrill as he drove one deep into left field.
- 1:42:49One out of the National League is here in the first half of the sixth inning.
- 1:42:53The score is tied 7-7. The batter is number 39, Roy Campanella.
- 1:43:03Well, he certainly has done a humans job in all-star play in his career.
- 1:43:11He speaks power as he stands there and takes the first pitch outside and lower the curve ball.
- 1:43:16The famous American League striker. The O'Dhammers ask you where it came from.
- 1:43:24Nobody seems to know. One O'Dhammers said it was a nickel curve.
- 1:43:28The next pitch, Campanella fouls the back of the screen. Strike one.
- 1:43:33Roll one and strike one to count. National League seven runs, nine hits.
- 1:43:38American League seven runs, nine hits. It has been an early contest. That's why.
- 1:43:45The boxfielders are on short-lift. They recognize the ability of this boy, Roy Campanella, to drive one out of here.
- 1:43:52Here's the wind-up. The pitch is outside and higher.
- 1:43:56Ball two. Turn one to count.
- 1:43:58Ted Williams in left field. Mickey Matlin in center. Many men also in right.
- 1:44:04Williams never still a minute. He's out there. Studies every plate of grass.
- 1:44:09The two-one pitch is thrown on and fouled back to the screens. Strike two.
- 1:44:13Hit your count.
- 1:44:20You've all been shocked into play by the Empire Bill Stewart.
- 1:44:26Jay Brun, the third baseman from Detroit, covering right close to the line. Roll back to the bag.
- 1:44:33Frank Thomas is on deck. Looks like we'll have a pinch at him for Anthony Nellie.
- 1:44:40One out. We're on the first half of the sixth inning.
- 1:44:44What a field of action. Pitch is in there. The line draft. How don't you like center for a base hit?
- 1:44:48Rolling out short, the center field are coming over fast. Manler's up with it.
- 1:44:51The throwback to second. Holding it through a single. Campanella is on first base.
- 1:44:57That is his first hit. And the 10th hit of the game for the National League.
- 1:45:05That's the number 15, Frank Thomas of the Fifth World Cup.
- 1:45:11Batting for Anthony Nellie. Here comes the National League's second century.

- 1:50:37Ball three.
- 1:50:38Attempting to keep the ball away from Big Ted Williams.
- 1:50:41He has just missed on a couple of them.
- 1:50:43Ball three no strikes.
- 1:50:47The outfield is around Ted Wright and deep in all fields.
- 1:50:50Right out of the empty of each.
- 1:50:52The three and nothing pitch.
- 1:50:54Two highs for ball four.
- 1:50:55And Williams opens the last of the six with a base on ball.
- 1:51:03That brings up the top of the batting order.
- 1:51:05The ball goes many minors though.
- 1:51:12And Mellie worked two innings.
- 1:51:14Give up three runs.
- 1:51:15Four hits and struck out two.
- 1:51:17Walk none.
- 1:51:22That's the third base on balls.
- 1:51:24Given up by National League pitches.
- 1:51:26Many minors though.
- 1:51:27Right hand batter.
- 1:51:28He has to walk and the single in three steps to the plate.
- 1:51:31Sort of first by Spahn.
- 1:51:35He has a good motion.
- 1:51:36This is covering Williams back in time.
- 1:51:38Manoso steps out.
- 1:51:44That field is shifted around Ted left from Manoso.
- 1:51:47However they are very worried of this boy.
- 1:51:50He hits to all fields.
- 1:51:51Another sort of first has Spahn.
- 1:51:53Side to catch Williams meaning toward second.
- 1:51:58Number 21.
- 1:52:01Here's the pitch.
- 1:52:03Inside and low ball one.
- 1:52:05Manoso holding back on his swing.
- 1:52:09Manoso has been the harrier.
- 1:52:13Now they should cover a white cross attack this year.
- 1:52:16Crossed in RBI.
- 1:52:18And in home run.
- 1:52:20Another sort of first.
- 1:52:22Spahn starts to ball down to Williams.
- 1:52:24That's the pitch.
- 1:52:27The pitch is the arm from Ted Kudiski.
- 1:52:30225 pounds.
- 1:52:32Williams leads up.
- 1:52:34The pitch is a strike.
- 1:52:35Pass ball to the outside front of Bel Tide.
- 1:52:37Ball one and strike one the chance.
- 1:52:39When the last half of the sixth inning was restored to Tide.
- 1:52:42National League 7.
- 1:52:43American League 7.
- 1:52:45Nobody out.
- 1:52:48Manoso crossed over the plate.
- 1:52:51The next pitch.
- 1:52:52He changed up his left for Lyons drive in the right field.
- 1:52:54Williams facing around 7.
- 1:52:578% is going on the third.
- 1:52:58Matt is still coming over.
- 1:52:59He's cut off.
- 1:53:00Five is shot up Alvin Dahl.
- 1:53:01Holding Manoso at first.
- 1:53:03And Dahl was really playing heads up baseball.
- 1:53:06Realizing that Manoso would have attempted to go to second.
- 1:53:09He cut it off.
- 1:53:11And he realized he throws out of line.
- 1:53:15Here's Manoso's second straight yet.
- 1:53:18Reynolds on first and third.
- 1:53:20With nobody out.
- 1:53:22The American League is starling back again.
- 1:53:28Only this time they have an opportunity to forge in front.
- 1:53:34Bobby Avila just in.
- 1:53:38Lawrence Bond on the left-hand.
- 1:53:40Just down three times.
- 1:53:43Here's the church.
- 1:53:45The pitch is a strike.
- 1:53:46Pass ball right over.
- 1:53:48Right one on Bobby Avila.
- 1:53:50Avila has two hits and has many times for the plate officially.
- 1:53:56Got to run that again with his fireball to let the other guys trip up.
- 1:54:00Manoso leaves off first.
- 1:54:01Williams off third.
- 1:54:03Bond pitches and there's a foul-stiff out of the catch this time.
- 1:54:06Strike two.
- 1:54:09New ball starts in the play.
- 1:54:11Bondek is Mickey Lamble.
- 1:54:16The American League has a total of ten hits now.
- 1:54:21Each team has a total of ten hits.
- 1:54:24Bond finds himself in a rough spot.
- 1:54:30The left-hand he takes off with a sign from Cappanella.
- 1:54:32OK, it's the next.
- 1:54:33The count on two.
- 1:54:35In position.
- 1:54:36The pitch is thrown on and fouls.
- 1:54:38Down to right field line.
- 1:54:39Saving back into the fans.
- 1:54:46Got to play.
- 1:54:55Virgil five-straps.
- 1:54:57Running up in the American League bullpen.
- 1:55:01All right, the orange of pitch is thrown into the dirt.
- 1:55:03A fine stop by Roy Cappanella.
- 1:55:05And that's the way catcher.
- 1:55:08Strike two to count now.
- 1:55:11Dead-chain beam.
- 1:55:12Second baseman moves in a step of two to sharpen and curing words for a catcher.
- 1:55:17The outfield is a plane just about straight away for Abila.
- 1:55:21What he may is.
- 1:55:23He's going to field him up through these.
- 1:55:25It's not one and two.
- 1:55:26Runner's on first and third.
- 1:55:28Bond pitches and there's a loop.
- 1:55:29We're going out to left field.
- 1:55:30That's all.
- 1:55:31He's going to be in there for a pace.
- 1:55:32He's gone through the way from here.
- 1:55:33He recovers Manoso's one to third before coming in.
- 1:55:35And Manoso is out.
- 1:55:37He's just a second on the call.
- 1:55:46Williams scores easily from third.
- 1:55:48He waited to make sure the ball would fall in there.
- 1:55:50It is Abila's third hit and his second run batted in.
- 1:55:57And also, attempting to go to third was out.
- 1:56:01Here's the old two.
- 1:56:02Third baseman Jackson seven-five in your score.
- 1:56:06Abila is on second.
- 1:56:08Moving to second on the throw into the play-face.
- 1:56:13That is Mickey Mabel.
- 1:56:14Again batting right-handed against left-hand pitch.
- 1:56:18American League leading eight to seven.
- 1:56:20Great pitch by Spahn to Mabel.
- 1:56:22He's four-one high and outside.
- 1:56:24Mabel is 0-3.
- 1:56:26Five to center field struck out and down to down.
- 1:56:29Abila on second takes the lead.
- 1:56:32There's a stretch by Spahn.
- 1:56:34The pitch is drawn on a ground ball.
- 1:56:36One's last to third baseman of a shot.
- 1:56:38That's easy.
- 1:56:39And that can't make a play.
- 1:56:40It's last to second.
- 1:56:41Hopeings and Seton start the Abila off.
- 1:56:46And it is a basic by Mickey Mabel.
- 1:56:53Well, the fans got a big kick out of it.
- 1:56:56Watching the fusion of the 11,000 dogs.
- 1:57:02As he tried to come up with one of the unusual plays,
- 1:57:04what would have been, how's the game,
- 1:57:06that he'd been able to get Abila?
- 1:57:07Abila had to bat back.
- 1:57:08It's an in-field hit for Mabel.
- 1:57:10Very fast of course.
- 1:57:11So I've got no chance to get him.
- 1:57:13Runner's on fifth and second.
- 1:57:14One out.
- 1:57:15And Yogi Berra is up then.
- 1:57:16Not that bad.
- 1:57:18First pitch.
- 1:57:19Berra is outside to get away from the catch.
- 1:57:21He's having a left.
- 1:57:22But as long as he's not moved,
- 1:57:24just right away from him, the short ways,
- 1:57:26he's leaving inside.
- 1:57:28Fall on the count.
- 1:57:29Berra.
- 1:57:30Berra has to walk into Senkul
- 1:57:32and three trips to the play.
- 1:57:35American League leading by a score of 87.
- 1:57:40Well, in OK's the sand chips for Runner's.
- 1:57:42The pitch has 20 minutes for strike one.
- 1:57:46All one and strike one.
- 1:57:48The count on Yogi Berra.
- 1:57:52Little fella that came up to get a hill
- 1:57:54in St. Louis some years ago
- 1:57:55to become one of the major league's top stars.
- 1:57:59There's the stretch.
- 1:58:00The pitch is fouled back into the radio booth, yeah?
- 1:58:06Big Al, don't tell me you missed that one.
- 1:58:08I sure did.
- 1:58:09After second time, I tried to catch it
- 1:58:10with a pencil and it doesn't work.
- 1:58:12I hope you better get that to our vibes.
- 1:58:15Strike sure to count.
- 1:58:21Probably a few of those on second.
- 1:58:23Mickey Mantle is on first.
- 1:58:27That's where the blank straight away
- 1:58:29is the end of the fact that he throws hard to right field.
- 1:58:32The runner's on the move.
- 1:58:33The pitch is popped into a shot right field.
- 1:58:36Second baseman.
- 1:58:37Red chain, moving back his 100th.
- 1:58:39He makes the catch.
- 1:58:45That's you out.
- 1:58:46And the roar of the crowd.
- 1:58:47Leap now heard when the beat comes up.
- 1:58:56Alvila goes for third on the pitch.
- 1:59:00But quickly he plays his step
- 1:59:02and he's shot a ball of pop-up in his short right field.
- 1:59:05Howlers are now stepping in.
- 1:59:07There's two homeruns in second of the plan.
- 1:59:09His last is just to the plate.
- 1:59:10Five runs right again.
- 1:59:13First pitch he swings and fouls 50.
- 1:59:15End of the day.
- 1:59:16Strike one.
- 1:59:21Lawrence Spahn, the left-hander on the mound
- 1:59:22for the National League.
- 1:59:23The left-hand Williams gave up a hit to Minoso.
- 1:59:26And a hit to Alvila.
- 1:59:28Those singles.
- 1:59:29That's her.
- 1:59:30And a foul fly.
- 1:59:31Minoso is now trying to go to third on Alvila's hit.
- 1:59:34There's two away.
- 1:59:35One run home.
- 1:59:36Ball one is high and outside.
- 1:59:39A curve ball to refusing.
- 1:59:41Barn rubbing his hand.
- 1:59:43Now looking at it.
- 1:59:45Flanners even sweeping.
- 1:59:47Ball one and strike one.
- 1:59:49Last half of the sixth inning.
- 1:59:51For eight to seven American ladies.
- 1:59:54Pass ball is swinging a miss for strike two.
- 2:00:01And Spahn has a fast ball.
- 2:00:05A real blue starter when he wants to rear back and let it go.
- 2:00:09Ball one and strike two to count.
- 2:00:16End of the session.
- 2:00:17Spahn takes the runners.
- 2:00:18Ball one and strike two.
- 2:00:21Ball two and strike two.
- 2:00:24Marv Grissom again warming up for the National League.
- 2:00:27Down the left field line.
- 2:00:28Virgil Trout warming up for the American ladies.
- 2:00:31In for Bisham Chouas.
- 2:00:33Spahn steps off the rubber.
- 2:00:35The boys were taking too big a lead.
- 2:00:38Alvila on second.
- 2:00:39Man along first.
- 2:00:40Here's the trick.
- 2:00:41Ball two and strike two.
- 2:00:43Marv Grissom again warming up for the National League.
- 2:00:45Down the left field line.
- 2:00:46Man along first.
- 2:00:48Here's the trick.
- 2:00:49The Tudor pitch is fired into the base.
- 2:00:51As Rosen attempts to protect the plate.
- 2:00:54You notice one thing about Al Rosen.
- 2:00:56You watch him play.
- 2:00:59From the count in his favor.
- 2:01:01He's right down on the end of his bat.
- 2:01:03Ready to go for that long one.
- 2:01:05Then the pitcher gets two strikes on him.
- 2:01:07He'll shorten up.
- 2:01:09Choke up on the bat just to catch.
- 2:01:13Man along lead off first.
- 2:01:15Tudor pitch again filed into the base.
- 2:01:18Ball two and strike two.
- 2:01:29Barn and Coralfield are the two pictures of record.
- 2:01:32As of right now.
- 2:01:34The air ball games are won early.
- 2:01:36Then the last half of the sixth inning
- 2:01:38with the American League leading 8-7.
- 2:01:40The Tudor pitch.
- 2:01:41400 yards to hard smash off the pitch.
- 2:01:43Now, Clark comes over to pick it up.
- 2:01:45But can't make a play.
- 2:01:46The bases are loaded.
- 2:01:49It is a basic for Al Rosen.
- 2:01:51The hard smash.
- 2:01:52All-flanders Jackson's left.
- 2:01:54Alvin Jackson came up with it.
- 2:01:57But was unable to make a play.
- 2:01:59A deal on.
- 2:02:00And Manville both fast and then moving up.
- 2:02:02And that's who they want to go with two outs.
- 2:02:05Rosen's third hit.
- 2:02:09And here comes Walt Orson.
- 2:02:11Number 24.
- 2:02:13The Brooklyn manager of the National League All-Star team.
- 2:02:17We may get a new pitcher.
- 2:02:19Mark Bisson has been warming up.
- 2:02:21Down in the growth end.
- 2:02:23And is ready to come in if they need him.
- 2:02:27They are calling for Bisson to come in.
- 2:02:32Well, I'll help you.
- 2:02:33You've got a lot of All-Star games.
- 2:02:35And I guarantee you haven't seen any more action
- 2:02:37than you're watching today, have you?
- 2:02:39Well, I'm sure you're right.
- 2:02:41The last one we saw had a lot of action in it.
- 2:02:43Jimmy was the one that came up in the park in 1950.
- 2:02:46One of the next innings.
- 2:02:48Right here this afternoon we're seeing a parade of the stars.
- 2:02:51And I think that's where everyone came out to see.
- 2:02:54Right now, as you said, Mark Bisson is coming on.
- 2:02:57The final release of the New York Giants in the American League.
- 2:03:00It was making his first appearance in All-Star play.
- 2:03:03And in the Liberty All-Star League pitcher.
- 2:03:05So, Mark Bisson is coming on.
- 2:03:07The All-Star games were filled with the Giants
- 2:03:09and has lost three fifths-one shutouts.
- 2:03:11He's been used principally in the relief by Leo de Rocher.
- 2:03:14But he certainly has turned out to be one of the fine stoppers
- 2:03:17as far as the Giants are concerned.
- 2:03:20So, Mark Bisson, well in his studies.
- 2:03:22And he's the hooky-judge right-hander.
- 2:03:24Glippers were sort of a broken-on delivery.
- 2:03:26Right now, talking to Roy Campanello.
- 2:03:28So, Jimmy, it looks as though they're going to the bullpen
- 2:03:32into the best win this one in the All-Star game this afternoon.
- 2:03:36Well, this is what makes the fans happy now.
- 2:03:39The greatest stars, as you noted a moment ago.
- 2:03:42Bisson has been one of the great finds of the 54 seasons
- 2:03:46as far as Leo de Rocher and the New York Giants are concerned.
- 2:03:49He has saved a lot of ball games for the de Rocher men.
- 2:03:53And they're drive for the 54 of Tennessee.
- 2:03:56Long ways until September.
- 2:03:58But the Giants are riding high.
- 2:04:01And view the fact that they've been able to take
- 2:04:03the course's contender, the Brooklyn Dodgers.
- 2:04:09The Cleveland Indians leading the American League
- 2:04:11by a stand-up game.
- 2:04:13All teams will return to action again first.
- 2:04:16All right, Bisson takes just a couple of warm-up draws
- 2:04:19and signifies he's ready to work.

- 2:17:20If there's a hole in the infield, you'll find it.
- 2:17:23The next pitch is fouled back into the stand, a mutual engineer almost coming up with a souvenir on that one.

- 2:18:18He has been known to pull a ball right down the first baseline.
- 2:18:23Wins the Harvard, doesn't land a pitch in that particular fashion, they're playing him around to the left.
- 2:18:29Luke Snyder has a lot of right field of cover.
- 2:18:32The next pitch is swinging a miss, he struck him out, and that is something you do not see very often.
- 2:18:39Nelson Fox going down swinging.
- 2:18:46That happened until a couple of weeks ago, he had faced Indian pitchers, for example, almost 400 times
- 2:18:53before Don Moss, a rookie left hander, struck him out.
- 2:18:57He called Carlos Keller's the batter, shortstop, takes, ball on outside and low, ball on the count.

- 2:20:13He has been known to throw a ball right down the first base line, with the Harvard, doesn't plan to pitch him.
- 2:20:21That's the figure of fashion, they're playing him around to the left.
- 2:20:24Good Snider, has a lot of right-fielder coverage.
- 2:20:27The next pitch is swinging him in, he's struck him out.
- 2:20:30And that is something you do not see very often.
- 2:20:33A thousand blocks going down swinging.
- 2:20:40That happened a couple of weeks ago, he had faced Indian pitches, for example, almost 400 times,
- 2:20:48before Don Marcy, a rookie left-handed, struck him out.
- 2:20:52He called Harris-Cowellers the batter, shortstop, takes ball on outside and lowers.
- 2:20:57Ball on the count.
- 2:21:02Mark Griffin, calling for the National Lakers.
- 2:21:06End of the wind-up.
- 2:21:08The pitch is ball to Renzi Tice, he goes to the batter, ball to No-Strikes.

- 2:21:22The outfielders are around to the left.
- 2:21:25That's where nothing fits.
- 2:21:26Balls back to the screen.
- 2:21:28Ball to N-Strike 1.
- 2:21:36Ted Williams is on deck.
- 2:21:40Now moves back into the shade of the shadows.
- 2:21:43The turn-1 pitch is going, he takes his bat, he grounds one of his shortstop.
- 2:21:46Don covers over nicely, he's up with it.
- 2:21:48The first, Harris-Cowellers out, number two.
- 2:21:51Don Griffin for Soski, 6-3.
- 2:21:55Don Griffin.
- 2:22:01Ted Williams is about it with two out.
- 2:22:04And nobody on, in the last half of the seventh inning.
- 2:22:08Now the outfield should be way around to right.
- 2:22:11Alvin Dodd, the shortstop, moves over close to the second.
- 2:22:15First pitch is a strike call to the outside corner, Neyhav.
- 2:22:20Red chain beams to the second baseman.

- 2:22:38And Vissom has come two very fast pitches.
- 2:22:42Going around the knees, here's the windup.
- 2:22:46Pitch is outside for ball one.
- 2:22:48Ball one and strike two.
- 2:22:53Vissom uses a screwball, and he has great control over it.
- 2:22:59All right, the one and two pitch, outside.
- 2:23:01Again the screwball, that was ball two.
- 2:23:06Vissom has one of these, odd stance is a faceball.
- 2:23:11He's always working up there, pulling a new shirt.
- 2:23:14And the great pair of eyes.
- 2:23:16The two pitch, he swings and fouls it back into the upper depth.
- 2:23:25Ball two and strike two.
- 2:23:28Vissom, of course, remembers some of his great feats in all-star competitions.
- 2:23:33Regular season play.
- 2:23:36One of the game's great stars.
- 2:23:38Ball two and strike two with two hours, nobody odd.
- 2:23:41Here's the windup.
- 2:23:43There's some pitches, fouled into the deck.
- 2:23:46Williams still alive.
- 2:23:51Muzio has pulled all the way over into left center.
- 2:23:57In the American League, quite often they use what they repair, too, as the Williams shift.
- 2:24:01With the shortstop actually on the first base side of second.
- 2:24:05And this fellow's up.
- 2:24:06The two pitch, he swings and he misses, he's stuck him out.
- 2:24:10Williams goes down swinging.
- 2:24:14That's the second strikeout for Vissom.
- 2:24:17Re-upp and free down for the American League, no runs, no hits, nothing is lost.
- 2:24:21And at the end of seven, with four, American League eight, National League seven.
- 2:24:27There you know what Brooklyn Starship's night of days.
- 2:24:31Well, really smooth, easy shave,
- 2:24:33nor the racer can touch today's one piece Gillette.
- 2:24:36I would be the last guy in the world to argue with you about that.
- 2:24:40Try today's Gillette and see why.
- 2:24:49So how after a slug test in the middle three innings,
- 2:24:53it looks like this is going to blow down to a fan pitches battle.
- 2:24:57Well, things are going to be tough from here on out.
- 2:24:59Jimmy, you can bet your last bottom dollar on that.
- 2:25:01Pretty tough guy coming out to do some pitching here now for the American League boss Latin.
- 2:25:08That's Virgil Trucks, the left climbing ham.
- 2:25:13Virgil Trucks is one-twelve, is one-five this year in the American League.
- 2:25:16He's picked three shut-offs.
- 2:25:19Virgil Trucks has been one of the five pitchers.
- 2:25:21He's a double no hitter in the American League.
- 2:25:24And actually this year he's pitched a one-hitter to over the Detroit Tigers.
- 2:25:28That happened to Detroit on the sixth day of this month.
- 2:25:32Virgil Trucks almost had another no-hitter to join the Europe-Russeinist Bob Treller with three no-hitters.
- 2:25:37That's Virgil Trucks coming out now.
- 2:25:39He's a one-hitter this year with a record of twelve and five on the year.
- 2:25:43Three shut-offs.
- 2:25:44So things can be pretty tough for those National League players from here on out, Jim.
- 2:25:48Absolutely Al. Well, we still have plenty of action coming up.
- 2:25:52American League leading by a score of eight to seven.
- 2:25:55I know. I'm sorry, Jim. I just don't see that it's not going to be Trucks.

- 2:26:15You know, one of the truly great stars of past All-Star competition is one of the game's greatest players.
- 2:26:22Who's unable to be here today.
- 2:26:24Joden Joe, the Yankee Clipper.
- 2:26:27A man who has thrilled thousands and thousands of baseball fans all over the world.
- 2:26:32Joden Marshall out in San Francisco, probably hoping he would be here today.
- 2:26:37But according to his friend Bob Ardman of the Oakland Express,
- 2:26:41Joe was unable to make the trip for the All-Star game this year.
- 2:26:44Business too pressing.
- 2:26:46All right, Bob Keegan is ready to work and Randy Jackson leads off.

- 2:27:30On deck is what he may use.
- 2:27:33I imagine a million thoughts are running through his mind as he wakes to come up.
- 2:27:37Probably hoping that Jackson gets the board.
- 2:27:40Playing in his first All-Star game.
- 2:27:43Randy Jackson has been one of the standout players of the Chicago team this year.
- 2:27:48Understand hack.
- 2:27:52One and two counts.
- 2:27:53Keegan checks his time.
- 2:27:54Wants to read it again.
- 2:27:56And Jackson steps out to break the spell.

- 2:28:44When the first half of the eighth inning with nobody on, Jackson leading off for count three two.
- 2:28:48All right, the payoff pitch. The difference on a ground ball pass for pitchers of the shortstop.
- 2:28:53Thumbel's momentary by Carrick.
- 2:28:54Can he pitch it up?
- 2:28:55That's what it first is inside.
- 2:29:03A beautiful recovery on the part of Keiko Carrick's down.
- 2:29:06He was just on the verge of being charged with the first error of the ball game.
- 2:29:10But he recovered his own fumble and got Jackson at first on a wicked throw.
- 2:29:15That brings up Willie Mays, number 24. His first time up the flat to left field.
- 2:29:19Ted went him stacking up to the fence to make the catch.
- 2:29:22He's a fine save by Harris-Gall.

- 2:29:52Ball one and strike one, McCount.
- 2:29:59Back too long ago, they were drawing a foul out.
- 2:30:02Green, Willie Mays and Jim Schneider.
- 2:30:05Arguments, weights, throw and con,
- 2:30:07but it's wonderful that both of them could make the All-Star team
- 2:30:11and both playing at the same time.
- 2:30:13Mays and Schneider, Jim Schneider in right.
- 2:30:17One and one to count, with one out.
- 2:30:19The pitch is thrown on and fouled down the right field line,
- 2:30:22curving back into the stands out of play.
- 2:30:25Back two.

- 2:30:50The pitch is thrown on, there's a line drive in the center field.
- 2:30:52Mandel coming in, but he can't get it.

- 2:30:56A sizzling line drive in the center for Mays.
- 2:30:58The All-Star hit.
- 2:31:02And it brings up number 39, Roy Campanella.
- 2:31:11Well, there have been 25 hits.
- 2:31:13Both teams are just one short of tying.
- 2:31:15The All-Star record of 26 hits made in 1937.
- 2:31:18Each team has 13 hits.
- 2:31:21Should Campanella come through,
- 2:31:23that would tie that record in identical pressure.
- 2:31:26The American League has 13, the National 12.
- 2:31:29Mays on first with one out.
- 2:31:31Throw the first by Keegan.
- 2:31:36He works the first quite often with a base runner aboard.
- 2:31:43Mays is very fast and Keegan wants to keep an eye on him.
- 2:31:46He represents the tying run with one out.
- 2:31:48Never throw the first.
- 2:31:50Rosen had to reach for it.
- 2:31:52And he was cut in for distance.
- 2:31:59Roy, if he had hit that,
- 2:32:01wouldn't he would have landed right out in Lake Erie.
- 2:32:07Strike one to Camp.
- 2:32:09No question of what he wanted.
- 2:32:11Mays leads away.
- 2:32:13In position, Keegan,
- 2:32:15and the All-Star.
- 2:32:17And he's got a good one.
- 2:32:19Mays leads away.
- 2:32:22In position, Keegan checks.
- 2:32:24The pitch is too low for ball one.
- 2:32:26He had a strike there, but the umpire calls him.
- 2:32:29And those men in blue do a wonderful job.
- 2:32:32Umpires are the American and National League.
- 2:32:37They are the All-Stars.
- 2:32:39Just as the players are.
- 2:32:41Representing the various teams, they represent the commissioners.
- 2:32:44Throw the first by Keegan.
- 2:32:46Mays is back.
- 2:32:51The coach of baseball, no ice to see that though.
- 2:32:53They'll go it away, maybe.
- 2:32:55The next pitch, Campanella swings with misses.
- 2:32:57Strike two.
- 2:33:01Now Keegan's ahead of him.
- 2:33:03Account ball one and strike two.
- 2:33:08On deck number 25, Dutch Bell.
- 2:33:12Only one out.
- 2:33:14Campanella though is hoping to stay alive with a basic.

- 2:33:22The pitch is swinging to miss.

- 2:33:26He down.
- 2:33:37Well, that is the second strikeout for American League pitchers.
- 2:33:40One by Porterfield and one by Keegan.
- 2:33:44Dutch Bell is the pincer.
- 2:33:46Number 25.
- 2:33:53Dutch Bell batting for Marv Grissom.
- 2:34:00He is the number three hitter in the National League.
- 2:34:05Batting average 3-43.

- 2:34:15The left hand batter swings on the first pitch
- 2:34:17and piles it down the left field line.
- 2:34:19Into the seat.
- 2:34:21Out of play.
- 2:34:23Strike one.
- 2:34:25Al Vera walks out toward the pitchers mound.
- 2:34:27Wants to talk to Bob Keegan.
- 2:34:32Every time you pick up a sports page,
- 2:34:34you read where the Cincinnati red legs have been
- 2:34:37pounding the ball out of the lot.
- 2:34:41Birdie Tebbets taking over as manager of the Cincinnati
- 2:34:44ball club.
- 2:34:46After turning in a fine job at Indianapolis in the American
- 2:34:48Association last year, has been doing a great job
- 2:34:50with that ball club.
- 2:34:52And they gave Paul one of baseball's fine personalities.
- 2:34:57Woody Mays is the base runner with two outs.
- 2:35:00He represents the tying run.
- 2:35:02To the first by Keegan.
- 2:35:04To Rosen.

- 2:35:08On deck is red shamedies.
- 2:35:10He'll come up if Bell can stay alive.
- 2:35:12Bell, the left hand batter, hitting for the pitcher,
- 2:35:14Marv Grissom.
- 2:35:18Keegan's imposition with a stretch.
- 2:35:20Touch the runner.
- 2:35:22The pitch is high and inside.
- 2:35:24Ball one. Even up. One and one.
- 2:35:28Gene Conley continues to warm up down in the

- 2:35:32He's the right hander.
- 2:35:34Ailes from the Milwaukee Braves.
- 2:35:40American League leading by a score of 8-7.
- 2:35:44Upfield is around toward right for Bell.
- 2:35:46Up for his first time.
- 2:35:48And also back on the track.
- 2:35:50Mays is ready to travel.
- 2:35:52He'll go with the crack of the bat.
- 2:35:54There's a throw to first. The fast one by Keegan.
- 2:35:56He's the right hander.
- 2:36:00One and one to count.
- 2:36:02Thank you, Mannell.
- 2:36:04Keegan right center.
- 2:36:08Bell, left hand batter, crunched over the plate.
- 2:36:10The pitch is 100. There's a foul ball going
- 2:36:12to the right center.
- 2:36:14Mannell is reaching back to the pitch.
- 2:36:16And Bell for home run.
- 2:36:38That foul pinching for Marv Gissom
- 2:36:40has put the National League ahead.
- 2:36:42By a score of 9-8.
- 2:36:44A home run over the right center field fence.
- 2:36:46With William Mays aboard.
- 2:36:48And the National League leads 9-8.
- 2:36:50This is now Marv Gissom's ball game.
- 2:36:56And they have tied the record of 26-6
- 2:36:58by both teams.
- 2:37:00Red Sheen-Dies to the batter.
- 2:37:02Keegan's first pitch.
- 2:37:04The inside's gone away side.
- 2:37:06Bell put a lot of work on that ball.
- 2:37:08It's a throw.
- 2:37:10Over Mannell's head.
- 2:37:12Just over the fence at the 3-80 mark.
- 2:37:16That's the second pinch hitter that has come through.
- 2:37:18For Walt Olson,
- 2:37:20the National League manager.
- 2:37:28Here's the windup. The pitch is fouled back into the upper deck.
- 2:37:32It's one of the field girders.
- 2:37:36The counter strike too.
- 2:37:38Red Sheen-Dies.
- 2:37:40The St. Louis Cardinals.
- 2:37:42Flashy second baseman.
- 2:37:48Yes, we've really seen it today.
- 2:37:50And we wish each and every one of you
- 2:37:52fans who helped pick this all start
- 2:37:54team to be here.
- 2:37:56The next pitch is from under there.
- 2:37:58It's a top line to Shrop-Right field.
- 2:38:00Now the props are racing back.
- 2:38:02Miniminoso's coming in and it's Minoso.
- 2:38:04He's got the ball, he's coming in with it.
- 2:38:06That's going to be a tough one for the official
- 2:38:11star to call. It is the first error of the ball game.
- 2:38:14It looks like Nelson Fox was going to make me catch.
- 2:38:18But Nellie at the last second was called off.
- 2:38:20Miniminoso kept shouting, I've got it.
- 2:38:22And he couldn't handle it.
- 2:38:24He hit his glove and dropped to the ground.
- 2:38:26It's a two base error for Miniminoso.
- 2:38:28The first error of the game.
- 2:38:30Right now, that's part 10 seconds
- 2:38:33for station identification.
- 2:38:35This is the Mitzuo broadcasting system.
- 2:38:38WGM, the Chicago Tribune Station,
- 2:38:41serving the middle west.
- 2:38:53Now back at Cleveland's huge municipal stadium.
- 2:38:56We're in the first half of the eighth inning
- 2:38:58leading by a score of 9 to 8.
- 2:39:00Alvin Dark is up with two outs.
- 2:39:02Chained each on second.
- 2:39:04The first pitch is fouled back into the stands out of play.
- 2:39:11We have really seen baseball here this afternoon.
- 2:39:19Almost 69,000 fans filling in on today's
- 2:39:23game. 17 runs, 26 hits.
- 2:39:28There's a runner on second with two out here on the top of the eighth.
- 2:39:31Keegan-Pitchers, the dark takes track two of basketball.
- 2:39:36That's about me high.
- 2:39:39Left hand at Dean Stone from the Washington Senators.
- 2:39:43Warming up down in the American League World Cup.
- 2:39:45Dean Conley has finished his warm-up draws
- 2:39:47and is ready for action in the last of the eighth.
- 2:39:51He will attempt to preserve this game for Mark Bissom.
- 2:39:57Hotfielders are around to have met the dark.
- 2:40:00The pitch is swung on the boundary down the third baseline.
- 2:40:03Stay still and Alvin attempts to make a play on Chained East
- 2:40:06when he plays the third.
- 2:40:15Alvin attempted to make a play on Chained East
- 2:40:20at third. He would not have been able to get dark at first base.
- 2:40:23He realized that.
- 2:40:25The ball is a high-bounder and Boone had to wait for it to come down.
- 2:40:28It's an infield hit for Alvin Dark giving him his first hit
- 2:40:31for today's game.
- 2:40:33Runner's on first and third.
- 2:40:36And here comes Casey Fingal.
- 2:40:38Out of the American League dugout, back to first.
- 2:40:41The batter is Duke Schneider.
- 2:40:43The National League leading by a score of 9-8.
- 2:40:47That is the 14th hit for the National League.
- 2:40:50Well, Alvin looks like Casey Fingal really has himself a problem right now.
- 2:40:55That's right. He was going pretty well with Quarterfield and Derrick Bob
- 2:40:59and got Nelly Parkson out of hit form.
- 2:41:01Now he's going to have to take Keegan out of the ballgame.
- 2:41:03And the left hander, he's going down the bullpen
- 2:41:06as you've already told the folks,
- 2:41:08as he isn't just about ready to come into this ballgame.
- 2:41:10And as it now stands, it's Keegan's ballgame to lose.
- 2:41:12It's Mark Bissom's ballgame to win.
- 2:41:14And of course, as you'll also have already told the folks down in the bullpen,
- 2:41:18that's Gene Conley, as he isn't ready now, to take over for the National League.
- 2:41:22So Casey Fingal is taking out Bob Kagan and bringing on Dean Stone.
- 2:41:27There in the eighth inning, two-thirds of the eighth inning is all that Keegan is able to fetch
- 2:41:32and Casey Fingal is going to take him out of there.
- 2:41:34So that's quite a ballgame cooking along here.
- 2:41:379-8 affair.
- 2:41:39In favor of the National League in the game of C-Sought back and forth
- 2:41:42we're going to give a big hand to the delight of all the fans that have come in here
- 2:41:45to the Lakebunch Stadium equipment.
- 2:41:48And we're sincerely sorry, as we said earlier in the broadcast,
- 2:41:52that Chris Steger isn't here with us.
- 2:41:54The old gray eagle won one of the five stars of yesteryear
- 2:41:57and now with the Cleveland organization suffered a mild heart attack yesterday
- 2:42:02and is resting in the hospital very comfortably today.
- 2:42:05And we sincerely hope that he's enjoying the ballgame
- 2:42:07and we're, well, God, we'd just like to see Chris allow these real great guys.
- 2:42:11Big Al, I'm awfully happy you brought that up
- 2:42:14because I know that Chris would love to be here today.
- 2:42:18I don't believe he's ever missed one.
- 2:42:20And he loves baseball.
- 2:42:22Of course, as you know, and we all know, he was one of the game's great players.
- 2:42:26Speaking of people unable to be here, as you know, Ed Burns,
- 2:42:30the sports writer with the Chicago Tribune,
- 2:42:33is still in the hospital up in Boston.
- 2:42:36Ed is probably wishing you a well.
- 2:42:39He's one of the other writers and the fans covering today's ballgame.
- 2:42:42We sure hope that he's listening in to it and feeling much better.
- 2:42:45I'll bet you about that he's got his ear glued to that radio up there in Boston.
- 2:42:49He's quite a sportsman. I know Carl Conwell, he has somewhere out there.
- 2:42:52We got a kick out of Kenny Smith, a New York writer.
- 2:42:56And he has been carrying messages from all of the fellas.
- 2:42:59He had it for the All-Star game to spin it up to big head.
- 2:43:02We hope he's going to be all right soon.
- 2:43:04My team's stone is the new pitcher for the American League.
- 2:43:07The left hander who has turned in a good record for Bucky Harris,
- 2:43:11the manager of the Washington Center this year.
- 2:43:16Stone has won seven and lost two.
- 2:43:19This is his first mania in the major leagues.
- 2:43:24Casey Stingle knows from watching this fella that he can do all right.
- 2:43:29He's whipped the Yankees a couple of times.
- 2:43:33Left hand pitcher against left hand batter. Duke Snedder steps in.
- 2:43:37Runners on first and third with two outs.
- 2:43:39First pitch is two high ball one.
- 2:43:44Ball on the count.
- 2:43:47We're still in the first half of the eighth inning with a national league leading.
- 2:43:49Biascorp nine to eight.
- 2:43:52Seldon comes up with a stretch. It's all lanky boy.
- 2:43:55Pitch is a fast ball. We're going to miss with strike one.
- 2:43:59Seldon was cut in for a little distance there. The pitch was up around the shoulders.
- 2:44:06Sennersing to watch the various sluggers to see what they like.
- 2:44:10Larry Dolby for instance. The Indians great centerfielder loves a pitch low.
- 2:44:14Snedder is trying to seal home. The post is coming in and he's out.
- 2:44:17The team's attempting to seal home.
- 2:44:20And now Calvin Carrick, Neo de Rocha and Sonny Cama arguing with Stone Ball.
- 2:44:26All that Neo de Rocha is really mad. Look at him go.
- 2:44:30The manager of the New York Giants is picked up a hand full of dirt.
- 2:44:35He throws it away.
- 2:44:38Bill Stewart very calmly goes about his business of pressing off home plate.
- 2:44:43And now Charlie Grimm gets into the act.
- 2:44:46And there are two of the greatest characters in baseball.
- 2:44:49Charlie Grimm and Neo de Rocha.
- 2:44:51And the Indian star goes out as he attempts to seal home.
- 2:44:56Ron Fair.
- 2:44:58It's it to the catch of Cabernola. Cabernola was pulled over and he was out.
- 2:45:02And they score going into the last half of the eighth inning.
- 2:45:06National League nine. American League eight.
- 2:45:09Slugging Hang-Bauer of the New York Yankees.
- 2:45:12There's the biggest nine out of ten big liggers here with Gillette Racers.
- 2:45:15That's an awfully high percentage.
- 2:45:17And there's an awful lot of Gillette Racers sold.
- 2:45:20And the United States alone bought over nine million last year.
- 2:45:23They went to brand new shavers.
- 2:45:25To older men who retired their trusty three-piece Gillette.
- 2:45:28For today's hand here, one-piece model.
- 2:45:30And to men who switch from other types of Racers.
- 2:45:33But can't give a clean looking, refreshing shave.
- 2:45:36Which have put Gillette so far out front.
- 2:45:38It's tough to name a runner up.
- 2:45:40Gillette steadily increasing popularity.
- 2:45:42Points up one thing.
- 2:45:44The way to get invigorating shaves is last for hours and hours.
- 2:45:47It's with shaving cream and the one-piece Gillette Racers.
- 2:45:50So as for Gillette's super speed racers.
- 2:45:53Complete with Blue-Braid dispenser and Cyrene travel case.
- 2:45:56One dollar.
- 2:45:58We are the race.
- 2:46:00We are the race.
- 2:46:02We are the race.
- 2:46:04We are the race.
- 2:46:06We are the race.
- 2:46:08We are the race.
- 2:46:10And now going into the last half of the eighth inning.
- 2:46:14We have some changes here.
- 2:46:16Three of these totals.
- 2:46:18They are in the eighth inning for the National League.
- 2:46:20Two runs on three hits.
- 2:46:23And one man was left.
- 2:46:25There was also one error.

- 2:47:44The next pitch is a strike call to the outside corner.
- 2:47:46Manoso attempted to make a forward target,
- 2:47:48moved up into the batter's box,
- 2:47:50just one of it.
- 2:47:52The rest of the lineup is for the same.
- 2:47:55With hard-dissip first base,
- 2:47:57new batter, connor pitching and Virgis catch.
- 2:48:01Fast half of the eighth.
- 2:48:03The two-one pitch, one on a grand ball to be shot down.
- 2:48:06That's it.
- 2:48:07That's it.
- 2:48:08The first and Manoso.
- 2:48:09The speed merchant is out.
- 2:48:10A fine play by Alvin Dahl.
- 2:48:13Very pretty play.
- 2:48:16One gone in the last of the eighth.
- 2:48:21They're getting a 10-fitter, number 14, Larry Dahlby.
- 2:48:25That in for Team Stone.
- 2:48:30Larry Dahlby.
- 2:48:38They're sure wondering why he's batting for Stone.
- 2:48:40Stone was put in the number two spot when Fox came in.
- 2:48:45The play second base and play for Bobby Abelo.
- 2:48:48First pitch to Dahlby,
- 2:48:49the ball went high and outside.

- 2:48:55And also in home run for the total of 14.
- 2:48:58One out, nobody on.
- 2:49:00Next pitch, he swings any misses.
- 2:49:03Had a good ripple.
- 2:49:08Ball one and strike one.
- 2:49:10Virgil trucks warming up for the American Lakers.
- 2:49:17Dahlby crouched over the plate.
- 2:49:20Finally pitches, Dahlby swings and misses, strike two.
- 2:49:24One out, nobody on.
- 2:49:33They play Dahlby, stricter to pull.
- 2:49:36Second baseman, back on the edge of the outfield grass,
- 2:49:39midway between first and second.
- 2:49:41Center field of maze, well over into right center.
- 2:49:43Here's the wind up.
- 2:49:46The pitch is following,
- 2:49:47the first one to drive, one to the left center, and that ball is over the crack for home run.
- 2:50:13Dahlby, coming through with a home run to tie it up, nine and nine.
- 2:50:20That has to fly the record for most home runs.
- 2:50:23Six by both clubs, set in 1951, had destroyed.
- 2:50:28Mickey Mantle is the batter.
- 2:50:29Finally first pitch to end.
- 2:50:32Ball one outside.
- 2:50:36One away.
- 2:50:38Mantle batting left again, against right hand pitches.
- 2:50:41Faces strike.
- 2:50:43Better high pitch, right over.
- 2:50:50Well it's Gene Conley's ball game to win a lose now.
- 2:50:54When the last half of the eighth of the short time, nine and nine.
- 2:50:59The next pitch, Mantle swings and misses, strike two.
- 2:51:04The boards are really slugging today.
- 2:51:0818-8 hit, six home runs, 18 runs, scored deadlock, nine and nine.
- 2:51:15Conley's next pitch is too high for ball two.
- 2:51:18Two and two counts for even up.
- 2:51:30Conley checks his sign, in action.
- 2:51:32The wind up.
- 2:51:33The pitch is ball three outside and the string is out.
- 2:51:36Ball count of three and two on the batter.
- 2:51:44The value of fans can really settle back and realize you've done a great job in selecting today's all-star team.
- 2:51:51The next pitch, swung on and skidded over the grass.
- 2:51:54Out of the second base, center center field, a face hit.
- 2:51:57Maze is up with it, the throwback to the end.
- 2:51:59He'll hold it through a single.
- 2:52:01Mantle is on first.
- 2:52:03And Larry Burrow comes up.
- 2:52:15Four home runs for the American League and two for the National League.
- 2:52:19The score is tied, nine and nine.
- 2:52:22Howl Rosen is it two, Ray Brun is it one.
- 2:52:25Larry Bilby is it one, is a pinch hitter.
- 2:52:27First pitch to Burrow, he fouls it down, they let's be aligned.
- 2:52:32Strike one.
- 2:52:34I'll always remember the words of George Twinkle-Dowe Southkirk when he was managing the Newark Bears in 1946.
- 2:52:42He said, this little fella, Yogi Burrow, will swing at bad pitches and hit him better and farther than anybody.
- 2:52:49The next pitch is a strike, a beauty over the outside corner.
- 2:52:55Remember those days that the stadium there in Newark, the Newark Bears, that's such a great team.
- 2:53:03Yogi had hit him two feet over his head, lying him over the fence for home runs.
- 2:53:09On to count, with a run around first, one out, Mantle leads off, a pitch for one high and outside.
- 2:53:16Mokie Burr just the catcher, had to go up for it.
- 2:53:20And that's how Rosen.
- 2:53:24Mantle coming through with the American League's 15th hit, his second of the game.
- 2:53:30The next pitch is fouled back into the stands, off to the left of the plate.
- 2:53:39Young fella in a large-jacket shirt, made a fine catch.
- 2:53:46Count is four-one and strike two.
- 2:53:50A walk and a single in four trips, giving him one out of three officially.
- 2:53:54Oddfield is around to right.
- 2:53:56The pitch is swung on and fouled off to the right of the plate, coming back into the crowd.
- 2:54:01Mokie Burr just the catcher made a run for it, but no chance to get it.
- 2:54:14Another star of National League play of the past, who would like to have been here and had planned for it, but couldn't make it.
- 2:54:20There's a former giant and card player, Big Hank Lieber, out in Arizona.
- 2:54:25So many of you would like to be here.
- 2:54:28The next pitch is swung on and fouled, on to the left of the line, off to the plate. Nobody would be able to get to it.
- 2:54:33They're playing Burr, well around to right.
- 2:54:36Jackson started to run for it, so did Muzio, but no chance for it.
- 2:54:40The count remains, ball one and strike two.
- 2:54:48Burr just heads back into the batter's box, holding that bat right down on the very end.
- 2:54:54One and two, one out.
- 2:54:56The pitch is swung on, there's a pop-fly going to the shot-left center.
- 2:54:59Mokie's racing back, still going back and can't get through it.
- 2:55:01Muzio's not reached it.
- 2:55:02Ten minutes for a base hit.
- 2:55:05And it'll move to second. Al Rosen is coming up.
- 2:55:16The last half of the eighth inning, one out.
- 2:55:18Hunter's on first and second.
- 2:55:20The American League again, battling back.
- 2:55:28Jim Wilson and Carl Erskine are working in the National League Boat End.
- 2:55:34Wilson of the Milwaukee Braves, Carl Erskine of the Brooklyn Dodgers.
- 2:55:38Al Rosen steps in, he has five runs batted in.
- 2:55:42Two home runs and a single.
- 2:55:44Runner's on first and second.
- 2:55:46Score tied, nine and nine.
- 2:55:48Connelly backs off the rubber.
- 2:55:51Al back into vision.
- 2:55:54The pitch to Rosen is ball one inside and low.
- 2:56:03Ball on the count.
- 2:56:08Runner's ready to move, one out.
- 2:56:14The next pitch, ball two, Ryan inside.
- 2:56:16Connelly working very cautiously against the American League slugger.
- 2:56:22Rosen started off as if he was going to care American League pitching apart this year,
- 2:56:27but then came up with an injury to his, on his right hand.
- 2:56:32That's just too high.
- 2:56:33Ball three, three and no count.
- 2:56:38Connelly, your fans have chose the All-Star teams of 1954.
- 2:56:42Were you the manager?
- 2:56:43One out, Runner's on first and second.
- 2:56:45Would you let him go?
- 2:56:48I hope for that walk.
- 2:56:49Move that runner over to third.
- 2:56:50Where is the end scoring position on a five-all?
- 2:56:53Ray Brun is on deck.
- 2:56:56We're in the last half of the eighth inning with a score tied, nine and nine.
- 2:57:01Willie May is pulled over into left center.
- 2:57:03The pitch is a strike.
- 2:57:05Right in there, the old catch-up pitch.
- 2:57:08Cat moves to ball three and strike one.
- 2:57:15Three and one to count.
- 2:57:17Werner is on first, Mickey Mantle on second.
- 2:57:21Werner being coached off by Freddie Hutchinson.
- 2:57:24Marty Marion shouting out to Mantle.
- 2:57:26The pitch is strike two and the string is out.
- 2:57:30Low cat of three and two.
- 2:57:35And now it blows down to that battle between pitcher and batter.
- 2:57:43After all, there's the basis of the great game of baseball.
- 2:57:47The never-ending battle that goes on between pitcher and batter.
- 2:57:51Here's the stretch.
- 2:57:52The payoff pitch, the runners are moving at ball four.
- 2:57:55In the start and low, he walked in.
- 2:57:57The bases are loaded.
- 2:58:00Mantle moves to third.
- 2:58:03Werner takes over at second.
- 2:58:06And Ray Brun was due, but we're getting a pinch at it.
- 2:58:11And here comes Walt Austin out of the National League dugout,
- 2:58:16taking the slow, long walk out to the pitchers mound.
- 2:58:19And Mickey Brennan is coming out of the American League dugout
- 2:58:22as a pinch at it for Brun.
- 2:58:26How have you ever seen such an opportunity for opposing managers
- 2:58:31to work with the strategy?
- 2:58:34Absolutely right, Jimmy.
- 2:58:36I haven't seen the opportunity presented before,
- 2:58:38but it certainly has been presented here this afternoon.
- 2:58:40And we've had two pinch hit home runs.
- 2:58:42We have a record of pinch hit home runs in the off-car play.
- 2:58:46But here's a guy coming up to play to contract that long a chore.
- 2:58:49It's Mickey Brennan who is coming up as you said the bat for Ray Brun.
- 2:58:53Now, there's going to be a check show on our part,
- 2:58:56but wouldn't it be surprised that Mickey Brennan would stay right in there
- 2:58:59to play at first base and then move Flip Rosen over from first over to third
- 2:59:03because after all, Rosen has been playing third, hasn't he?
- 2:59:08Now we're going to have Luke Carlisken who's going to come on
- 2:59:11to take over on the mound for the National League and read Gene Connelly.
- 2:59:15So you'll have some changes there, Jimmy.
- 2:59:17Yes, Al.
- 2:59:18And as you say, more than likely, Stingel will have Brennan play first base
- 2:59:23and Rosen will move to third base.
- 2:59:26He was chosen as the first baseman for the Emerging League All-Star
- 2:59:31game by the fans of America.
- 2:59:34A fine tribute to a fine ball player
- 2:59:36who last year was voted the most valuable player in the Emerging League
- 2:59:40by unanimous vote on the part of the baseball writers.
- 2:59:44Then he was called upon to switch to first base.
- 2:59:47He did so for a while,
- 2:59:49and now he's moved back to his position at third.
- 2:59:53In the regular season, he'll probably go to the hot corner in the ninth inning.
- 2:59:59Carl Erskine, number 17, right hander from the Brooklyn Badgers,
- 3:00:05is the new pitcher.
- 3:00:06Carl Erskine, Carl Erskine, Carl Erskine,
- 3:00:11Erskine and Smokey Burgess, the catcher.
- 3:00:14Avalo conference out there.
- 3:00:20It seems sort of strange to see these fellas in different uniforms
- 3:00:24gathering for conferences, working out strategy,
- 3:00:27plan of attack, plan of defense.
- 3:00:30And during the regular season, they battle one another through the mail.
- 3:00:34Many of them personal friends.
- 3:00:36But as so many of the great competitors will tell you,
- 3:00:39once the bell rings and that ball game gets underway,
- 3:00:42you're wearing a different uniform, we're not friends.
- 3:00:46Carl Erskine, he has won 10 and lost 8 as a member of the Dodgers this year.
- 3:00:52He comes into a very difficult situation,
- 3:00:55with the bases loaded and only one out.
- 3:00:58Taking his warm-up doors, and Mickey Brennan, wearing number 3,
- 3:01:03from the Washington Senators, stands off to the first base out of the plate,
- 3:01:07trying to get a lion on this fella.
- 3:01:16A ball game jammed with excitement.
- 3:01:19Beautiful defensive play, fine catches, great base running.
- 3:01:24And as most fans like it, a lot of scoring and a lot of pitting.
- 3:01:29Nice purchase again goes out to the mound for a final conference with Carl Erskine.
- 3:01:41Finally he started the setting, that's the first man to face him.
- 3:01:45Then gave up a home run to Larry Doughy, the top of the ball game.
- 3:01:49Mandel and Barra singled, Rose and Wamp.
- 3:01:52The bases loaded, the infield is drawn in, they'll attempt to close the door on this runner.
- 3:01:57They wind up, and the first pitch to Brennan is Bar one high and out-side.
- 3:02:06Carl Erskine, the fine right-hander from the Brooklyn Dodgers,
- 3:02:10in a tough spot, the bases loaded, Mandel, passman on third.
- 3:02:15The pitch is ball two, low into the dirt.
- 3:02:21Ball two, no strikes, the score is tied.
- 3:02:25The American League right now has the upper hand, with only one out, and the bases loaded.
- 3:02:30Mandel, Barra and Rosen are ready to rise.
- 3:02:36Erskine into the wind up, the turn-up thing pitch is fouled off to the right.
- 3:02:41He came on with a change-up, Brennan just got a piece of it on the end of his bat.
- 3:02:48Brennan was the American League batting champion of last year.
- 3:02:52Always dangerous to ever a threat after the plate.
- 3:02:57As fancy a fielding first base, as many of you'll find in the game, anywhere.
- 3:03:03Currently batting 309 in the American League campaign.
- 3:03:08After a bad start, he's come along very fast to pick it up to 309 at the All-Star Low.
- 3:03:15Here's the wind up for the turn-1 pitch, chase, swing and miss.
- 3:03:18Strike two, Erskine 30-morten under the hand.
- 3:03:35Ball two, strike two.
- 3:03:37The next pitch fouled back to the screen.
- 3:03:40Brennan got a piece of it to stay alive.
- 3:03:42At tense moment, Erskine is really barring down.
- 3:03:49On deck is Nelson Fox.
- 3:04:00The second baseman is the only member of the end field not in tight.
- 3:04:03He's playing back in case of a ground ball, might be good for a double play.
- 3:04:08It's a good pitch, just low into the dirt, almost got away from the catcher.
- 3:04:12Hit the umpire's foot and roll down, ball three.
- 3:04:16Hit the umpire and that's a good save for Erskine and Smokey Burgess.
- 3:04:26Three and two, the swing is out, full count on the batter.
- 3:04:33That was a good break for Erskine. That pitch was low into the dirt.
- 3:04:38He got past the catcher but hit the umpire's foot.
- 3:04:42Three and two count. Here's the wind up.
- 3:04:45The runner's going to go down.
- 3:04:47One out, the pitch, like three called a pad for a f**king outside corner.
- 3:04:57Brennan is called out on strike.
- 3:05:02Erskine really sneaks the pass and by. Two gone.
- 3:05:09Well, you can always say that was a great sent there but there's still one more death to come.
- 3:05:21Nelson Fox. Fox struck out his first time up.
- 3:05:26Right now he has a chance to put the American League in the sun but the fireball will not do it anymore.
- 3:05:35It will have to be a base hit.
- 3:05:40Ball three. Hit the umpire and that's a good save for Erskine and Smokey Burgess.
- 3:05:58Three and two. The swing is out, full count on the batter.
- 3:06:03That's a good break for Erskine. That pitch was low into the dirt.
- 3:06:06He got past the catcher but hit the umpire's foot.
- 3:06:13Three and two count. Here's the wind up.
- 3:06:16The runner's edge off. One out. The pitch, like three called a pad for a f**king outside corner.
- 3:06:21Brennan is called out on strike.
- 3:06:26Erskine really sneaks the pass and by. Two gone.
- 3:06:34Well, you can always say that was a great sent there but there's still one more death to come.
- 3:06:42Nelson Fox. Fox struck out his first time up.
- 3:06:51Right now he has a chance to put the American League in the sun but the fireball will not do it anymore.
- 3:06:56It will have to be a base hit.

- 3:07:24Here's the open straight away and not deep in left.
- 3:07:28Big Snider. The gadget outside, straight away in right.
- 3:07:33And fairly deep. Erskine comes into action.
- 3:07:37The pitch is thrown on the vessel. The loop is going on the second base.
- 3:07:40And South
- 3:07:44Leslie and Veller goes again.
- 3:07:50A little looping foul ball that rejects out of the reach of Alvin D'Arts.
- 3:07:55Race for it. All more sector.
- 3:07:58Hunder looks for Nelson Fox. And he'll run some home.
- 3:08:03Mandel and Veller scores. Rosen stops at second.
- 3:08:09And Fox is on first.
- 3:08:13That was...
- 3:08:17The two lines are tied to Gene Connelly.
- 3:08:22And of course they go to the center on the winning side to Bob Keegan.
- 3:08:30Excuse me, how do you like?
- 3:08:31Gene Stone, the left hander, with the last pitcher in there.
- 3:08:37Schalers' job is up now. Erskine's first pitch down to car one high.

- 3:09:04And the last of the gate.
- 3:09:07National League was leading the three runs long to the emerging league first-time in front.
