- 0:58Speaker 1: Have you really cute to be three days of camping?
- 1:02Speaker 3: The facilities are apparently amazing, there's one hundred and twenty apps,
- 1:07Speaker 3: so we're pretty exciting. The bands flying up for Melbourne,
- 1:11Speaker 3: we're flying down from camps. So yeah, that's what's happening.
- 1:17Speaker 3: That's in a couple of weeks.
- 1:19Speaker 4: Beautiful guys. Thanks for joining us this evening.
- 1:22Speaker 5: Thanks so, as you mentioned her, have the honor of
- 1:27Speaker 5: closing the thirteenth Mitchell Creek Rock and Blues Festival the
- 1:30Speaker 5: Sunshine Coast Hinderland from September thirteen to fifteenth. Like you
- 1:34Speaker 5: say it, it sort of doesn't really sink in, but if
- 1:36Speaker 5: you think about it, guys, that's a massive achievement. Like
- 1:38Speaker 5: you're closing the Mitchell Creek Rock and Blues Festival and
- 1:41Speaker 5: that's good achievement, well done.
- 1:44Speaker 1: I know, it just came out of the blue light. Seriously,
- 1:49Speaker 1: I was contemplating, like, where are we going? What are
- 1:51Speaker 1: we doing with this band? What's going on?
- 1:54Speaker 6: You know?
- 1:54Speaker 1: Is it such you know, it's such hard work as.
- 1:57Speaker 3: You know, the band going in and I was I
- 2:01Speaker 3: was really like having a bit of the down.
- 2:03Speaker 1: I said, I don't even know who you're going to
- 2:05Speaker 1: keep this band going, you know. And then the phone rang.
- 2:08Speaker 3: It was Jimmy and he said, hey, how do light
- 2:12Speaker 3: to come up play festival ORB Nights And I was like, wow, okay,
- 2:17Speaker 3: what's this all about? And yeah, so it was just
- 2:22Speaker 3: out of the blue totally. The Bloody said they've been
- 2:25Speaker 3: following us for a while and he was drawn to
- 2:29Speaker 3: our single The Truth.
- 2:30Speaker 1: He really loved that.
- 2:31Speaker 3: It's suit of a classic rock kind of single. So yeah,
- 2:36Speaker 3: that's that's basically how it happened.
- 2:38Speaker 5: Nice and the first of U's got one hundred and
- 2:41Speaker 5: twenty artists planned, including the Radiators. There's hat Fits, Stained,
- 2:44Speaker 5: Pacey Trio, him Gays in the Rough, Diamonds like it
- 2:47Speaker 5: only bands in particular you're looking forward to catch it.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Well.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Jeron's really good mates with Lockie to only he's playing
- 2:56Speaker 3: just before.
- 2:56Speaker 7: Us, Yeah Sunday that it's just amazing. He is so
- 3:06Speaker 7: such a player and the.
- 3:12Speaker 1: M Yeah, and there's a few there's a few.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Bands dotted through the three days that you definitely want
- 3:22Speaker 3: to on a catch where we're going to be probably
- 3:26Speaker 3: spending on the Saturday rebursing into studio the property, so
- 3:32Speaker 3: you might miss you there. But yeah, we're so just
- 3:37Speaker 3: even just seeing it's such great, great guys. Yeah, yeah,
- 3:46Speaker 3: I've got I've got girlfriends you know that I've known
- 3:48Speaker 3: since your high school that have got tickets that are
- 3:52Speaker 3: coming and that live around that area.
- 3:55Speaker 1: So there's about three groups that are coming. So it's
- 3:58Speaker 1: going to be.
- 3:59Speaker 2: It's going to be.
- 4:00Speaker 1: It's gonna be.
- 4:04Speaker 5: We've had a little bit of a joke about this,
- 4:06Speaker 5: but it's it's a serious thing.
- 4:08Speaker 4: Like you're gonna be there for three days.
- 4:10Speaker 5: There's one hundred and twenty bands, three days of partying.
- 4:13Speaker 4: Have you got a battle plan?
- 4:14Speaker 5: How you're going to pace yourself yet or are you
- 4:16Speaker 5: just gonna got the cheats?
- 4:27Speaker 1: We're pretty season.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Roles, you know, We're just we just keep for me
- 4:35Speaker 3: as it's trying not to talk too much as you.
- 4:39Speaker 4: Probably trying to get caught up in the emotion of it.
- 4:41Speaker 5: I guess, yes, yeah, what happened before though, Like you
- 4:51Speaker 5: guys will be trying to be quiet because you don't
- 4:52Speaker 5: want to recognoice. People will be trying to talk to you.
- 4:55Speaker 5: They'll be thinking you're rude because you're not talking back
- 4:57Speaker 5: to them. They'll get the you'll get the ships in
- 4:59Speaker 5: there you're yell at them, then all of a sudden,
- 5:01Speaker 5: banging your voices playing.
- 5:05Speaker 3: It's really is going to be challenged, especially while we're talking.
- 5:09Speaker 3: You know, there's street of my best girl friends that
- 5:12Speaker 3: are coming. You know that part, you know, So I'll
- 5:20Speaker 3: behave myself. I we'll just paint it.
- 5:24Speaker 4: Yeah, it'll be fine now looking through the light up,
- 5:32Speaker 4: I reckon.
- 5:32Speaker 5: Aside from the radiators, you guys are pretty much going
- 5:35Speaker 5: to be the hardest and heaviest span over the three
- 5:37Speaker 5: days made. So did you think have you thought about yet? Like,
- 5:41Speaker 5: do you reckon the crowd will be hard to win
- 5:42Speaker 5: over or do you reckon it'll sort of they'll be
- 5:45Speaker 5: looking for something different.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Oh, look, I reckon, it's you know, being three days,
- 5:51Speaker 3: there's a lot of there's yeah, a lot of different clues.
- 5:54Speaker 3: There's some focused soul, there's there's a bit of rock,
- 5:57Speaker 3: but we're definitely forecial.
- 6:00Speaker 1: And I said to Jimmy.
- 6:01Speaker 3: Look, man, you know we've got some soul songs, we've
- 6:05Speaker 3: got some more sort of funky stuff, like do you
- 6:08Speaker 3: want us to to kind of play.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Down a bit? And he said no, he said, the
- 6:13Speaker 1: heart of the better mish go hard.
- 6:16Speaker 3: So all right, so we pulled out all of our seriously,
- 6:25Speaker 3: you know how there's a couple of classic rock songs
- 6:28Speaker 3: in there, but most of the hardest stuff. So I
- 6:31Speaker 3: usually sort of try and do our sets so that
- 6:34Speaker 3: you know, there's a bit of a light and shade
- 6:36Speaker 3: and a bit of a crescendo. But this is going
- 6:39Speaker 3: to be in your face. Yeah, We're just we're just
- 6:42Speaker 3: going to go for it. Yeah, it's it's a huge rift.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Nelson Young's in a way there, so yeah, it's gonna
- 6:53Speaker 3: it's going to be in.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Their face, that's sure. I hope we've been the O.
- 6:58Speaker 3: I think you know we've done I don't know most
- 7:01Speaker 3: of the songs we've played, you know, yeah, done a
- 7:04Speaker 3: lot of shows these.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Songs people, you know, and I played in middle school.
- 7:13Speaker 7: And it's all blues based, it's all soul based, and
- 7:15Speaker 7: it's all you know, classic rock.
- 7:17Speaker 2: So it really fits. As far as the other content playing,
- 7:22Speaker 2: it's along the day line. It's just.
- 7:27Speaker 7: Maybe a little bitter, you know.
- 7:32Speaker 3: Yeah, so yeah, we definitely definitely had that conversation. But
- 7:37Speaker 3: like we've had We've had the Grand Flag, Grand Light,
- 7:41Speaker 3: and yeah, we're just going to go for it. And
- 7:44Speaker 3: I think being the last band, you know, it will
- 7:47Speaker 3: be it will be a party that the ones that
- 7:50Speaker 3: stays to the end, you know that that would be
- 7:54Speaker 3: the hard there anyway, So all the kids will be bad.
- 7:58Speaker 5: I'm pretty sure I should be anyway. You guys recently
- 8:09Speaker 5: released your latest EP, toe Tag as well, So how's.
- 8:12Speaker 4: The how's the only response been for that?
- 8:15Speaker 1: Yeah? Really good.
- 8:17Speaker 3: I probably need to do more work, you know. It's
- 8:20Speaker 3: it's a constant. We're pretty organic, you know. I only
- 8:25Speaker 3: really sort of gotten onto this streaming in the last
- 8:28Speaker 3: couple of years. Our first album was a CD. We
- 8:32Speaker 3: sold five hundred copies hard copies of that. I think
- 8:36Speaker 3: I've got ten left for this festival, and so I
- 8:40Speaker 3: was pretty anti streaming to be honest.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I'm a bit old school that's.
- 8:45Speaker 3: So it's definitely something that we need to look further into.
- 8:50Speaker 1: There's no escaping it.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Unfortunately, just got to give life's work away.
- 8:58Speaker 7: So you know, office company that kind of infrastructed buying.
- 9:05Speaker 7: So we're doing it, and you know it's a lot.
- 9:12Speaker 3: But you know what, every radio station that I've had
- 9:15Speaker 3: time to approach and send to, they've all played it.
- 9:20Speaker 3: So you know, we do get a lot of support,
- 9:24Speaker 3: community radio support. It's just that constant job, you know,
- 9:30Speaker 3: great to have. Yeah, it just got to keep at
- 9:34Speaker 3: it constantly.
- 9:34Speaker 1: But yeah, look it's it's going all right. It's organic.
- 9:37Speaker 3: And you know, we had eighty streams the other day
- 9:41Speaker 3: and I think, well that's okay considering I don't advertise,
- 9:45Speaker 3: I don't do the the boosts or whatever that is.
- 9:48Speaker 1: You know. So, yeah, it.
- 9:50Speaker 4: Sounds so much like me. It sounds so much like me.
- 9:53Speaker 5: It's like I had no fucking idea yea out with
- 10:02Speaker 5: the posters and the glue, like putting the posters on
- 10:04Speaker 5: the telegraph.
- 10:08Speaker 2: You know what.
- 10:09Speaker 3: Honestly, I believe that still works in a scene and
- 10:13Speaker 3: the white noise and the constant ship that's on your
- 10:17Speaker 3: screen if you go on to your regular and walking
- 10:20Speaker 3: around Chapel Street or runs it through whatever, and you.
- 10:23Speaker 1: See the poster every day. I think it's does into
- 10:27Speaker 1: the subconscious on some level.
- 10:29Speaker 3: And that's apparently takes six times in the old scale
- 10:33Speaker 3: of marketing before someone acknowledges your brand. So I think
- 10:39Speaker 3: having those pies and that's really important, I really do,
- 10:44Speaker 3: and I always do that with all of our shows
- 10:47Speaker 3: when we're from I always do posters.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:50Speaker 4: Cool, I've readden through your pressure these guys.
- 10:53Speaker 5: It says that you're continually pushing the boundaries of your
- 10:57Speaker 5: musical expression.
- 10:58Speaker 4: Like it sounds great, but what is it you mean,
- 11:00Speaker 4: can you elaborate on that? A good for us?
- 11:03Speaker 3: Well, yeah, because it's such a it's such a process
- 11:07Speaker 3: for me personally as a writer.
- 11:08Speaker 1: I mean, I collaborate.
- 11:10Speaker 8: Still with my old guitar, a Steel, So you know,
- 11:15Speaker 8: we've we've got so much stuff on the shelf yet
- 11:18Speaker 8: to release, so that has been interesting bringing that into
- 11:22Speaker 8: you know, I had to went up with her together
- 11:24Speaker 8: six years ago.
- 11:25Speaker 3: That was kind of all the songs I had was
- 11:27Speaker 3: my back catalog. And then when Jerome and I started
- 11:31Speaker 3: writing together, you know, we wrote probably five or six
- 11:35Speaker 3: songs on the first album together so that that first
- 11:39Speaker 3: album was quite eclectic. We've got probably this including Jerome,
- 11:43Speaker 3: there's four drummers on the first album, so I was
- 11:46Speaker 3: pretty much it was all hired guns. You know, I
- 11:49Speaker 3: was paying session players, which you know, like Venoms. You
- 11:52Speaker 3: know was in my bands still thirty years ago. So
- 11:56Speaker 3: Venom has always been there and great and been a
- 11:59Speaker 3: big part out of the songwriting process for me. But
- 12:02Speaker 3: now so I don't know.
- 12:04Speaker 1: I think it's eighteen months, two years almost now with
- 12:07Speaker 1: this lineup. So you know, Mark.
- 12:10Speaker 3: Lcloud coming on board, and Mark has a really distinct style,
- 12:16Speaker 3: and so that's been interesting by melding that.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Into what we do. It's kind of the stone of
- 12:22Speaker 1: rock and the slower bluesy rock stuff. It's really anted
- 12:28Speaker 1: up the style.
- 12:30Speaker 3: I think it's pushed it into Chris Parki is quite
- 12:33Speaker 3: a metal player, as you know, has pushed it a
- 12:36Speaker 3: little heavier, which is great life.
- 12:39Speaker 1: But what has happened with Sir Nelson?
- 12:42Speaker 3: Jerome Nelson's the guitarists, look by the guitarists and a
- 12:46Speaker 3: Christian who's who's a young guy who's very creative, great musician.
- 12:52Speaker 3: So all of us, right even Die has put forwarded
- 12:56Speaker 3: a beautiful piece. It's kind of like, what do we
- 12:59Speaker 3: call it crazy?
- 13:00Speaker 7: It's the Doctor. It's system amazing, and it's a collection
- 13:08Speaker 7: of stuff. Because I wrote the song, Nelson took it
- 13:12Speaker 7: and like kind of produced a demo that really went
- 13:16Speaker 7: somewhere else. It was just just yeah, it's a more
- 13:21Speaker 7: electronic kind of bigger rock sound, and and it's amazing.
- 13:27Speaker 7: So as we finish it and put more lyrics on
- 13:31Speaker 7: it and figure out, you know, the storyline and all.
- 13:35Speaker 2: The things that we write about.
- 13:36Speaker 7: Especially recently, I've been failing for artical I mean, we
- 13:39Speaker 7: don't do girls and cars kind of songs. You know,
- 13:44Speaker 7: it's usually even though there's you know, the Love tribute
- 13:48Speaker 7: song and this app but pretty much, yeah, we try
- 13:52Speaker 7: to cheap topical turn things and and uh political stances
- 13:58Speaker 7: because we're pretty you know.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Venom says, I'm very pritic with the way I write.
- 14:05Speaker 3: So I don't know, I think it's a personal journey
- 14:09Speaker 3: if I'm really arked up about something and help.
- 14:14Speaker 1: But so we're pushing in that sense, like.
- 14:19Speaker 3: It's just so cool to be able to have to
- 14:22Speaker 3: get together with a really amazingly talented and creative group
- 14:28Speaker 3: of people who in their own rights all write music
- 14:32Speaker 3: and have their own individual styles, so and every you know,
- 14:37Speaker 3: it's such are quite you know, everybody works really well
- 14:42Speaker 3: together of diplomatic in that sense, as as a band
- 14:46Speaker 3: songwriting together, everybody's heard, everybody gets to put in. And
- 14:50Speaker 3: I think that became really evident with on the EP
- 14:55Speaker 3: Let the Enemy Go, as a song that we all
- 14:59Speaker 3: arraigned and constructed together.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Christian had come up with the riff. And the funny thing.
- 15:06Speaker 3: Was we were jamming with Christian, Jerome and I down
- 15:10Speaker 3: at the Frankstin House.
- 15:11Speaker 1: We had a little studio and this little.
- 15:14Speaker 3: Like rift came up, and amongst a lot of other
- 15:17Speaker 3: things we were working on, we record everything.
- 15:20Speaker 1: We listened back to that and said this was cool rift.
- 15:23Speaker 3: Let's work on it, and so Jerome and I worked
- 15:27Speaker 3: on it, came up with the song.
- 15:28Speaker 1: The lyrics flew pretty easily, and then we you.
- 15:33Speaker 3: Know, said to Christian, oh, we've written something from that idea.
- 15:36Speaker 1: And then he said, oh he listened to it. He goes, oh,
- 15:39Speaker 1: he goes, it's close.
- 15:40Speaker 3: He goes, I've already recorded that, like that's actually his song,
- 15:44Speaker 3: and so we were like, oh wow.
- 15:48Speaker 1: So you know, that was really interesting because he didn't
- 15:52Speaker 1: say anything.
- 15:52Speaker 3: And so when we listened to the original recording that
- 15:55Speaker 3: he did with it's like when he's sixteen, I mean
- 15:58Speaker 3: what he was when he was school towards bringing out yeah,
- 16:02Speaker 3: and and it was like, oh wow, we heard this.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Song was really cool. So Jerome was like, okay, we
- 16:09Speaker 1: might yeah, we might go.
- 16:11Speaker 4: With all this.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Yeah, so that.
- 16:16Speaker 3: This guy and so that then you know, it was
- 16:20Speaker 3: never really arranged. There was only a really basic like
- 16:23Speaker 3: full of sketches. You know, you just have a concept.
- 16:25Speaker 1: You might have a first of chorus.
- 16:28Speaker 3: Most of the songs when when guys put things forward don't.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Really have a bridge. Jerome is the is the king bridges.
- 16:36Speaker 3: He's really good at writing singling. So it's yeah, so
- 16:45Speaker 3: we're pushing it in that sense, and I think, you know,
- 16:51Speaker 3: I love Nelson's sound, like he's one of those guitarists
- 16:54Speaker 3: that has a signature sound. And we're sort of decided
- 16:59Speaker 3: that we would go that's almost like southern kind of
- 17:03Speaker 3: blues rocks style, and he's.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Sort of come up with view the track.
- 17:08Speaker 3: So yeah, it's it's a very interesting process and we're
- 17:13Speaker 3: not like, oh no, it's gott to sound.
- 17:14Speaker 2: This is business, this is the this is the sun,
- 17:22Speaker 2: you know what we feel?
- 17:24Speaker 1: Yeah, wherever the you know, the inspiration.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Comes from influenced. But well the.
- 17:32Speaker 7: Music for the past fifty sixty years probably more like e.
- 17:38Speaker 7: It's because we listen to all stuff, you know. I mean,
- 17:41Speaker 7: I come from a like gospel jazz kind of background
- 17:46Speaker 7: because my dad dad musician, and so I don't this
- 17:50Speaker 7: is a lot of that as a trial. But the
- 17:53Speaker 7: Christian has just come out of university. But he's got
- 17:57Speaker 7: all these other grads, but he's as well, so he's
- 18:03Speaker 7: got a huge whichever standards and big band stuff, and
- 18:09Speaker 7: so it's it's wild to see that that.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Pool of influence.
- 18:14Speaker 7: Nelson is another His dad is a music teacher, a pianist,
- 18:20Speaker 7: piano teacher, and uh but he's like he just loves
- 18:24Speaker 7: the Beatles and loves that kind of sensibility with vice
- 18:28Speaker 7: arms and but the tricky chords, and so we take
- 18:32Speaker 7: all that we try to and then.
- 18:36Speaker 1: And then.
- 18:38Speaker 9: Fool.
- 18:39Speaker 1: She's comes from that, you know, that seventies sort of fun.
- 18:43Speaker 7: But she she loves, she loves you know. So it's
- 18:49Speaker 7: like and she's a teacher. She's a teacher, so you
- 18:55Speaker 7: know what I mean, It's like it's it's as.
- 18:59Speaker 2: Exactly. It's pretty and we want everybody, you know, kind
- 19:06Speaker 2: of equal share.
- 19:07Speaker 7: That's what we've come so getting all that and getting
- 19:12Speaker 7: having format really and that's still as a I guess
- 19:18Speaker 7: a modern edge to it.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Classic yeah, class. So it's fun.
- 19:24Speaker 3: It's fun though for me, it's just I'm just loving
- 19:28Speaker 3: having an actual band, you know, like a serious line up.
- 19:31Speaker 3: Everyone's really getting one's into it and it's a beautiful
- 19:34Speaker 3: thing to have.
- 19:36Speaker 1: I feel very blessed.
- 19:37Speaker 4: Very cool.
- 19:39Speaker 5: Now, just say someone's going along to Mitchell Preak and
- 19:41Speaker 5: they haven't heard of her, give us three of your
- 19:45Speaker 5: songs that they can listen to you get engaged on
- 19:47Speaker 5: the band and get to know you a bit better.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Yeah, great, you.
- 19:58Speaker 3: Know we stylistically, I don't know, I like it, said jee,
- 20:07Speaker 3: it's like.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Such a Jesus One.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Song that kind of a roll the influenced. You know.
- 20:12Speaker 2: There's there's all the great things, which is.
- 20:15Speaker 3: Not that we're not Jimmy Heart, but.
- 20:20Speaker 2: That's listen, that's the song of writing in spite of
- 20:25Speaker 2: our soul.
- 20:26Speaker 9: Yeah, but it has and then but then there's there's
- 20:31Speaker 9: the truth, which is pretty I don't know, it's describe.
- 20:38Speaker 1: My favorite song is Let the Enemy Go. That's my
- 20:42Speaker 1: favorite song. I love it.
- 20:43Speaker 3: It's a it's a rock, it's a classic kind of
