- 0:07Speaker 2: Hello, Big Blue Nation, Welcome to Just the Cats. My
- 0:11Speaker 2: name is Michael Bennett. Thank you very much. There justin
- 0:16Speaker 2: May seventh, Thursday, as we get you ready for you know,
- 0:20Speaker 2: a nice day. It's a little chilly outside, but at
- 0:22Speaker 2: least the sun is out. You know, the sun shines
- 0:24Speaker 2: bright somewhere in my old Kentucky home. Thankingness, it did
- 0:28Speaker 2: at least today. Didn't on Derby Day. But it'll be here.
- 0:31Speaker 2: But if you want to call in five O two
- 0:33Speaker 2: three four fourteen fifty, if you want to text in
- 0:36Speaker 2: on the Whiskey Thief text line, you can do that
- 0:37Speaker 2: five oh two three four to one four fourteen fifteen.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Can tweet me at Just the Cat Radio, or you
- 0:42Speaker 2: can join us on YouTube at Big X. I can't
- 0:47Speaker 2: say that doesn't flow out easily, Big X Sports Radio, Louisville.
- 0:50Speaker 1: There you go. I just said, it is it on?
- 0:52Speaker 1: It's on? Okay, good justin? Good morning? Are you?
- 0:55Speaker 2: I'm great? How are you listen? I'm not in the
- 0:58Speaker 2: grouchy mood, so uh.
- 1:00Speaker 3: But listen, let me let me stop that right now.
- 1:04Speaker 3: I am not in a grouchy mood. I just had
- 1:07Speaker 3: to talk about some of my sports teams that made
- 1:10Speaker 3: me a little annoyed last night or have been making
- 1:12Speaker 3: me a little bit annoyed.
- 1:13Speaker 1: So now overall, I'm good. I get it. I am
- 1:16Speaker 1: a little tired.
- 1:17Speaker 3: I stayed up late to watch a freaking Red's loss
- 1:19Speaker 3: and that that was just frustrating.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Who are they playing right now? The Cubs on fire?
- 1:25Speaker 3: That's why I think they've won fourteen straight or something,
- 1:27Speaker 3: have they really it's they're on a crazy run.
- 1:30Speaker 1: You know. My Tampa Bay Rays have only lost four
- 1:32Speaker 1: games this season, and they're what.
- 1:35Speaker 3: At all best record in the league's twenty five and
- 1:38Speaker 3: eleven okay at home?
- 1:41Speaker 2: You mean, I must have looked it up wrong, but
- 1:46Speaker 2: there's something They're good. I don't know what they are.
- 1:50Speaker 2: It doesn't matter, but yeah, you know, this is not
- 1:53Speaker 2: just the Raise. This is uh that's a great name though.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Just the rais yeah, really, yeah, I like it.
- 2:00Speaker 1: I'm glad you do. But I don't know. You can
- 2:02Speaker 1: look at them and tell me what there they are?
- 2:04Speaker 3: They are it is at home, so they're fourteen okay,
- 2:06Speaker 3: fourteen and four at home?
- 2:08Speaker 2: Fourteen and four is what I looked at, okay, and
- 2:10Speaker 2: their overall record is what it is. I don't worry.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Twenty four and twelve. Okay, that's pretty good.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Incredible. Yeah, so they're there. I think they're won the
- 2:19Speaker 1: game back behind the Yankees.
- 2:21Speaker 2: I mean I looked at that and think, man, it
- 2:23Speaker 2: would be nice if you know, they limited how much
- 2:25Speaker 2: they spend. And that's what's going to have to happen
- 2:29Speaker 2: with college sports. Otherwise it's going to be the same
- 2:34Speaker 2: teams that are going to win every single year. Because
- 2:38Speaker 2: I saw a report yesterday where, uh, there are a
- 2:43Speaker 2: few teams out there, Texas, Florida, Duke, Louisville, and Tennessee
- 2:53Speaker 2: are the ones that are the big spenders coming up
- 2:56Speaker 2: this basketball season. And the part that was amazing to
- 2:58Speaker 2: me justin is the fact that three of those five
- 3:04Speaker 2: are historically known as football schools Florida, Texas, Tennessee. Of course,
- 3:11Speaker 2: Louisville and Duke are predominantly known as basketball schools. I
- 3:15Speaker 2: was shocked by that that those three schools are looking
- 3:20Speaker 2: at spending the amount of money they are. Of course,
- 3:22Speaker 2: they're saying that U of L has already spent over
- 3:25Speaker 2: thirty million dollars on a roster. Are you surprised that, Well,
- 3:30Speaker 2: there's a lot and how do they note truthfully, that's
- 3:34Speaker 2: the other part I'm not buying. So you're not buying
- 3:36Speaker 2: it now I am buying it. I think that U
- 3:39Speaker 2: of L is spending upwards. Okay, would you agree they're
- 3:42Speaker 2: spending more than what UK did this past season.
- 3:46Speaker 3: I'm not even convinced to that. No, I mean, twenty
- 3:50Speaker 3: two million dollars is a lot. There are only you're
- 3:53Speaker 3: only paying on a normal roster what ten eleven impact guys? Right,
- 3:59Speaker 3: So I don't see a world where the guys that
- 4:02Speaker 3: they have or are getting that much money. Now Flory,
- 4:06Speaker 3: he may have gotten like three million, but I don't
- 4:10Speaker 3: see anyone else over over that two million dollar more.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Oh, they've gotten everybody they've wanted. They've all signed up,
- 4:16Speaker 2: and then all of a sudden you have a coin
- 4:18Speaker 2: incidence where John Schnader is back in with U of
- 4:22Speaker 2: L and given money. So I look at that and
- 4:25Speaker 2: I think, okay, that might be the case. And when
- 4:28Speaker 2: everybody doubted you, Kate last year when they said they
- 4:31Speaker 2: spent twenty two million, so why would you doubt U
- 4:33Speaker 2: of L when the reports are coming out that U
- 4:35Speaker 2: of L spending thirty million or plus.
- 4:38Speaker 3: My thing is just so Kentucky was the highest last year.
- 4:41Speaker 3: At that's that's what we've been doing.
- 4:43Speaker 1: That was what was reported.
- 4:46Speaker 3: We're gonna go ten million dollars more than what Kentucky did. Like,
- 4:52Speaker 3: that's how precipitously this thing is gonna grow.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Ooh, nice words.
- 4:56Speaker 3: It's gonna continue to give ten million dollars more and
- 4:58Speaker 3: more and more every year.
- 5:00Speaker 2: I gotta concentrate on that. I am totally off focus
- 5:03Speaker 2: because you said precipitously.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Nice job.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I am going to compliment you on that. So
- 5:10Speaker 2: it's going to rain. There's gonna be some precipitation at
- 5:13Speaker 2: u of L. No, oh, that's not how you break
- 5:16Speaker 2: it down. No, Okay, precipitously means quickly.
- 5:19Speaker 1: I know. But but rain falling quickly, I mean, who knows?
- 5:23Speaker 1: Could be? Uh, there's falling with money over there.
- 5:28Speaker 2: I believe it. I think they have spent that much.
- 5:31Speaker 2: But are you Let's forget about U of L for
- 5:34Speaker 2: a second. But Texas, Florida and Tennessee are spending upwards
- 5:40Speaker 2: of that, not thirty, but you know, upwards of twenty
- 5:43Speaker 2: million dollars.
- 5:44Speaker 1: I can see.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Texas because there's a lot of money down there, a
- 5:47Speaker 2: lot of alumnus that want to spend money, but wouldn't
- 5:49Speaker 2: you think that they would rather a lot of that
- 5:52Speaker 2: go to football. Same thing with Tennessee and Florida. I
- 5:55Speaker 2: think Texas has enough money where they can get it
- 5:57Speaker 2: doesn't matter. They can pay football and pass. Okay, But
- 6:00Speaker 2: how so who is the most surprising team that they
- 6:03Speaker 2: keep saying spending a lot of money?
- 6:04Speaker 1: Out of those five.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Teams, I would have to say Tennessee is the most
- 6:09Speaker 2: surprising to me. Probably so because I feel like with Florida,
- 6:13Speaker 2: I feel the same way as Texas. There's a lot
- 6:15Speaker 2: of money in Florida. Even though you say there's a
- 6:17Speaker 2: lot of to divide, because you got Miami Florida State,
- 6:21Speaker 2: you've got Well, no, that was Oscar that was telling
- 6:24Speaker 2: me this. You got Miami Florida State. Saw dude this
- 6:27Speaker 2: morning looked just like him.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Oscar Cones. Yeah really Louisville, No, he's not. I wish
- 6:33Speaker 1: he was.
- 6:34Speaker 3: Stopped at the gas stage. There was this old man
- 6:36Speaker 3: in there, looked just like okay, all right, well can
- 6:39Speaker 3: I get back to my point?
- 6:40Speaker 2: Yeah? I got your permission, thank you. Yeah, you got Florida,
- 6:44Speaker 2: then you got Florida State. You got Miami. Then you
- 6:47Speaker 2: got Central Florida. Then you've got South Florida that's really
- 6:51Speaker 2: up and coming. Uh, and then you got the other
- 6:54Speaker 2: little schools on down there in South Florida, that and
- 6:57Speaker 2: that that are they can come and go. But man,
- 6:59Speaker 2: I still feel like there's enough money in Florida that
- 7:02Speaker 2: they could spread it around between each school, and Florida
- 7:07Speaker 2: is spending that kind of money. Tennessee is a different story. Tennessee.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Even though he got Memphis, you got Vanderbilt. I still
- 7:15Speaker 2: believe the big dog in Tennessee is University of Tennessee.
- 7:19Speaker 2: But they never spend money. They don't ever care about basketball.
- 7:22Speaker 3: Do you think that they've gotten to the point where
- 7:24Speaker 3: they're just so sick and tired of here in every
- 7:26Speaker 3: season Tennessee's never been to a Final four. Yeah, and
- 7:29Speaker 3: it's like we're going to change that.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Watch this.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Yeah, we're gonna spend forty five million dollars on our roster.
- 7:34Speaker 2: And I think Rick Barnes has gone out and really
- 7:36Speaker 2: promoted himself and his basketball team to the point where, Okay,
- 7:40Speaker 2: he's going to be able to raise that money. And
- 7:42Speaker 2: clearly he has raised that money because I think the
- 7:44Speaker 2: other thing that's happening. That's kind of wilking Tennessee.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Yup, is the.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Fact that Vanderbilt is really raising a lot of money.
- 7:51Speaker 2: I think that motivates you. When you see your competition
- 7:54Speaker 2: raising money, guess what you want to do? You want
- 7:56Speaker 2: to beat him. I know I'm motivated when it comes
- 7:59Speaker 2: to petition. I never never, growing up and still to
- 8:04Speaker 2: the state, never gonna like to get beat. If I'm
- 8:07Speaker 2: involved in it, I don't ever want to get beat.
- 8:10Speaker 2: That's the one thing that motivates me. And I think
- 8:12Speaker 2: Tennessee is kind of that. Maybe Vanderbilt has woken up
- 8:16Speaker 2: a sleeping giant because Vanderbilt is doing a phenomenal job
- 8:21Speaker 2: raising money, and you know, you got the football program
- 8:23Speaker 2: that's on the upswing. You got the basketball program that
- 8:27Speaker 2: was really a huge surprise as far as I'm concerned.
- 8:30Speaker 2: And it's like, Okay, it's time for Josh Heipel, it's
- 8:34Speaker 2: time for Rick Barnes to wake up. We need to
- 8:36Speaker 2: do something to Tennessee. That's that part. I'm really surprised
- 8:40Speaker 2: a byt because I don't ever hear Tennessee fans really
- 8:44Speaker 2: care about basketball.
- 8:45Speaker 3: Well, I mean, that's the beauty of it. For as
- 8:48Speaker 3: much as we don't much care for the whole nil
- 8:51Speaker 3: thing and and the way things are with college athletics,
- 8:54Speaker 3: that's kind of the beauty of it. You get these
- 8:56Speaker 3: teams that you would have never expected to be in
- 8:59Speaker 3: these positions. They're trying to become a powerhouse like a
- 9:02Speaker 3: Tennessee I mean, they've had really good seasons the last
- 9:05Speaker 3: handful of years, but they can't get over that threshold.
- 9:08Speaker 3: And them spending a ton of money to go out
- 9:11Speaker 3: and get whoever they want is what they think pushes
- 9:15Speaker 3: them over that threshold. Then by all means, go out
- 9:17Speaker 3: and try it. Whether it succeeds or not, who knows.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the other question, all right, So with them,
- 9:24Speaker 2: if you have Ella spending that can of money, if Tennessee, Texas,
- 9:27Speaker 2: Florida Duke is spending that kind of money and they
- 9:31Speaker 2: do not have a successful season, is there any way
- 9:35Speaker 2: that those teams get the kind of criticism that the
- 9:38Speaker 2: university can Kentucky did last year and Mark Pope or
- 9:42Speaker 2: do you think it's just the entire country that wants
- 9:45Speaker 2: to criticize Kentucky and Mark. I mean, I think they'll
- 9:47Speaker 2: get criticized if those numbers come out Now, obviously, with
- 9:51Speaker 2: Duke being a private university there, that'll never come out
- 9:55Speaker 2: for them, will never know in history how much Duke
- 9:58Speaker 2: spent on their basketball, right, I think it leaks out.
- 10:03Speaker 2: I don't know really, all right, So what should they do? Well,
- 10:08Speaker 2: n Cuba can't do anything, But what should the change be.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Should the change be? Okay, leave it as like the
- 10:17Speaker 2: Major League Baseball where it's the wild Wild West weekend,
- 10:20Speaker 2: the rich keep getting richer and they spend as much
- 10:22Speaker 2: money as they want. Or should it be more like
- 10:25Speaker 2: an NFL where you only have a certain amount of money,
- 10:29Speaker 2: then you hit a cap and you have that. How
- 10:33Speaker 2: do you think it'll go? Because at that point the
- 10:36Speaker 2: Duke's out there, the Notre Dames, they have to show
- 10:43Speaker 2: and prove how much money they spend. How do you
- 10:45Speaker 2: think it'll go? And who's going to stop it? How
- 10:47Speaker 2: do I think it'll go? Or how do I want
- 10:49Speaker 2: it to go? Well, I know how we want it
- 10:51Speaker 2: to go. How do you think it'll go? Or is
- 10:54Speaker 2: that one of the same.
- 10:56Speaker 3: No, I don't think so, because I mean, obviously everyone
- 11:00Speaker 3: involved with this, like everyone that's a fan of anybody
- 11:03Speaker 3: college sports in general, we all want a salary cap,
- 11:06Speaker 3: that's the way to do it. I mean, we spend
- 11:09Speaker 3: a lot of time talking about baseball and how there's
- 11:11Speaker 3: a lack of salary cap and you get teams like
- 11:13Speaker 3: the Dodgers and Yankees, and I just don't think you
- 11:16Speaker 3: want to have that at the college level. The more parody,
- 11:19Speaker 3: the better off college athletics is going to be. So ultimately,
- 11:23Speaker 3: I think we all want to see a salary cap.
- 11:25Speaker 3: I don't know how important that is at this juncture
- 11:28Speaker 3: to the NC double A, So I think there will
- 11:31Speaker 3: be several years before that becomes a thing where the
- 11:36Speaker 3: light bulb goes off in their head like, oh, maybe
- 11:39Speaker 3: we should do a salary cap. Yeah, no, bleep, NC DOUBLEA.
- 11:42Speaker 3: We've all been saying that for five years now, so
- 11:44Speaker 3: I think they're gonna lag behind and not realize how
- 11:47Speaker 3: important something like that is. But it definitely is.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Let me ask it this way, then, why do you
- 11:53Speaker 2: think because I think we all agree everybody's listening to
- 11:56Speaker 2: show everybody, and you and I would would agree NFL
- 11:59Speaker 2: is more more popular than MLB.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Is that fair? Oh yeah, all right?
- 12:04Speaker 2: Why do you think that is? It can't be just
- 12:06Speaker 2: for the love of football. Why why do you think
- 12:09Speaker 2: football NFL is more popular than Major League Baseball.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Truthfully because there a the sport is way more exciting
- 12:18Speaker 3: than baseball. I don't think anybody would argue with that.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Now.
- 12:22Speaker 3: I love both, don't get me wrong. I love baseball,
- 12:24Speaker 3: love football, but football inherently is more entertaining. B There
- 12:29Speaker 3: are schedules only seventeen games as opposed to one hundred
- 12:32Speaker 3: and sixty two. Yeah, so each and every game feels
- 12:37Speaker 3: way more valuable than one baseball game.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Does. I think those are the main two reasons right there.
- 12:43Speaker 1: All right?
- 12:44Speaker 3: Now, does the salary cap have something to do with that?
- 12:46Speaker 3: Where That's what I want to know, That teams can
- 12:49Speaker 3: only spend a certain amount of money, sure, because it
- 12:51Speaker 3: does make it more of an even playing field. I mean,
- 12:53Speaker 3: if you get you can get the Jets, if they're
- 12:56Speaker 3: playing their best ball of the season on that day,
- 13:00Speaker 3: they can beat the best team in the league that day.
- 13:02Speaker 3: That's just that's how it is. They're all professional athletes.
- 13:05Speaker 3: That's the part about college sports that I worry about
- 13:07Speaker 3: the most. That you're going to have certain teams that
- 13:10Speaker 3: are going to win every single year because they can
- 13:12Speaker 3: spend whatever amount of money they want. And I worry
- 13:16Speaker 3: that people are going to get sick and tired down
- 13:18Speaker 3: the road if this continues for years on end, that
- 13:21Speaker 3: they're not going to watch college sports at all. Only
- 13:24Speaker 3: the teams that continue to win the are the fans
- 13:26Speaker 3: that are of those teams are going to pay attention.
- 13:30Speaker 3: Everybody else is going to say, who cares? Let me
- 13:33Speaker 3: ask you this, And I do worry about Kentucky not
- 13:35Speaker 3: having enough money. Put yourself in my shoes, all right?
- 13:39Speaker 3: As an Indiana fan, Yes, does all this stuff going on?
- 13:44Speaker 3: Would that worry you that we are potentially going to
- 13:48Speaker 3: get another team run undefeated? Or does this completely eliminate
- 13:52Speaker 3: that chance?
- 13:55Speaker 1: Well, I'm not sure I understand your question.
- 13:57Speaker 3: So with like nil and all, like say, do goes
- 14:00Speaker 3: out and there's no salary cap as it stands now, yes,
- 14:03Speaker 3: they can theoretically go spend one hundred and fifty million
- 14:06Speaker 3: dollars on their basketball roster.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Yep?
- 14:09Speaker 3: Does that give them a better chance of running undefeated
- 14:12Speaker 3: throughout the entire season?
- 14:14Speaker 1: It does? You don't think it does? No?
- 14:17Speaker 3: That I mean, That's what I'm trying to figure out
- 14:19Speaker 3: literally right now as we're speaking, because as I'm talking,
- 14:22Speaker 3: I'm like, man, well, all this there's gonna be It
- 14:24Speaker 3: feels like there's gonna be a perfect situation with the
- 14:27Speaker 3: perfect ingredients.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Right.
- 14:29Speaker 3: That record from Indiana is eventually gonna go away because
- 14:33Speaker 3: there's hardly any policing with any.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Of this, right, Oh, there's no policing. Are you kidding?
- 14:37Speaker 2: What are they policing anymore? Yeah?
- 14:39Speaker 1: Uh so?
- 14:40Speaker 2: I thought the interesting part was Dan Issel, I don't
- 14:44Speaker 2: know if you saw this or not, was on a
- 14:47Speaker 2: podcast today called Run It Back, and he made the
- 14:50Speaker 2: comment that really raised a lot of eyes yesterday saying
- 14:53Speaker 2: with nil we can't cheat like we used to. He
- 14:58Speaker 2: made the comment I was hoping Boogie would be here
- 15:00Speaker 2: to kick in some more nil money.
- 15:03Speaker 3: Now dan Issel said this, Dan Essel's not wrong for
- 15:07Speaker 3: what it's worth, all right, So is he calling out
- 15:11Speaker 3: his former UK basketball coach.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Seems like it. It did to me. It's like, oh
- 15:17Speaker 1: my goodness. And that surprised you because I don't it
- 15:19Speaker 1: didn't mean.
- 15:20Speaker 2: Really, I don't know. I look back and think I
- 15:24Speaker 2: don't want because I didn't. I wasn't living during the
- 15:27Speaker 2: era of Adolf RUPs, so I don't know. I lived
- 15:30Speaker 2: in the era of Joby Hall. Dude's name was Adolph.
- 15:34Speaker 2: You're telling me you don't think he was cheating. Come on, dude,
- 15:37Speaker 2: was no.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Way to say that. No, I'm not.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Gonna say that I turned a name with Hitler. Oh
- 15:43Speaker 2: my god, that stopped. That's just obnoxious right there. Man,
- 15:49Speaker 2: I I know we are not going there because you know,
- 15:52Speaker 2: one of my good friends is as good as Grandson.
- 15:55Speaker 1: So I, yeah, I cannot.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Say charge grandson pro I mean, I don't want to
- 16:02Speaker 2: make fun of Chiprup's grandfather that he's very proud of.
- 16:07Speaker 2: I no, I would think not. But but you know,
- 16:10Speaker 2: his name is Adolph. Adolf repped the Third But yeah,
- 16:14Speaker 2: but no, I I I I would like to think
- 16:18Speaker 2: that Adolph did not do anything unusual. Now as far
- 16:22Speaker 2: as Coach Hall, as far as Eddie Sudden, as far
- 16:25Speaker 2: as I don't know, I don't see Tubby Smith doing
- 16:28Speaker 2: anything unusual.
- 16:29Speaker 3: But look, I'm not saying that here you are. I'm
- 16:32Speaker 3: not saying Kentucky historically has outright cheated. I think every
- 16:37Speaker 3: team did, or were they fudging some things. I fully
- 16:41Speaker 3: believe that.
- 16:42Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I listen to tell me that Nick Saban
- 16:47Speaker 2: never cheated, to tell me that Mike Krzyzewski never cheated,
- 16:50Speaker 2: to tell me that John Caliperi never did anything unusual.
- 16:56Speaker 2: I think it's an absolute farce. I think that things
- 17:00Speaker 2: were Who was it the old LSU coach that came
- 17:04Speaker 2: in there when he was assistant coach with Nick Saban
- 17:06Speaker 2: ed orzer On what was the comment he famously said,
- 17:10Speaker 2: within the last year, you know, we used to bring
- 17:13Speaker 2: bags of cash in the back door. Now we bring
- 17:16Speaker 2: it in the front, which I think is awesome. And
- 17:19Speaker 2: that calls Nobody said anything, Oh you're talking about Nick Saban.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Nobody called him out. And I want to know.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Why they didn't call Nick Saban out on this. Why
- 17:27Speaker 2: doesn't anybody come out and say, Okay, yeah, Mike Krzyzewsky
- 17:32Speaker 2: did this, Nick Saban did this. I want to know
- 17:34Speaker 2: why they keep it so quiet. If they did.
- 17:38Speaker 3: They just don't have the proof they need, I guess,
- 17:40Speaker 3: but the player should. I think we all know that
- 17:43Speaker 3: there was some nefarious stuff going on across the country.
- 17:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:47Speaker 3: I mean every every school I do believe was cheating
- 17:50Speaker 3: in some way, shape or form. Others were just better at.
- 17:53Speaker 2: Why were some caught? You know, they got the thirty
- 17:55Speaker 2: for thirty on SMU football. They were caught, uh and
- 17:59Speaker 2: I've always often wondered, Oh, come on, you mean, out
- 18:02Speaker 2: of nowhere, Miami University becomes the greatest football team in
- 18:05Speaker 2: the in the country. They weren't doing anything unusual at
- 18:09Speaker 2: that time. Why did SMU get caught in and Miami
- 18:12Speaker 2: did not? I mean, they were bringing in some serious
- 18:16Speaker 2: thugs to play football at a really good school. Yeah,
- 18:21Speaker 2: you mean to tell me some of these players that
- 18:22Speaker 2: played for Georgetown University and John Thompson could get into
- 18:29Speaker 2: Georgetown University if they didn't play basketball. Come on, there
- 18:33Speaker 2: was something going on. I mean yeah, And I know
- 18:37Speaker 2: Kentucky's probably guilty of a lot of this. Literally every school,
- 18:40Speaker 2: I would have to say, every single school, every single.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Coach out there was doing something unusual. But I just don't.
- 18:48Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 18:49Speaker 2: I was kind of surprised that Dan Issel, famously played
- 18:52Speaker 2: at UK says what he does said yesterday, and I'm like,
- 18:56Speaker 2: oh my god.
- 18:56Speaker 1: I can I just say I love old man version
- 18:59Speaker 1: of day? Do you really?
- 19:01Speaker 3: He just doesn't hide his feelings. He will tell you
- 19:04Speaker 3: exactly what he's thinking about any subject, and I love
- 19:07Speaker 3: that about it.
- 19:08Speaker 2: You think that's what happens when you get older. You
- 19:10Speaker 2: just don't care. You don't. That's what it is. You
- 19:13Speaker 2: just don't care what people think anymore. Exactly, I will see.
- 19:16Speaker 2: I would like the older age of me to be
- 19:18Speaker 2: the younger age of me. I would like to be
- 19:21Speaker 2: able to speak out like I do today. When I
- 19:23Speaker 2: was twenty years old, I just didn't do that tarder
- 19:28Speaker 2: when you're young. Why takes a while to find your voice?
- 19:32Speaker 1: Oh?
- 19:32Speaker 2: Exactly, So you think it takes a while to find
- 19:34Speaker 2: your voice, okay, or at least feel confident in your voice.
- 19:38Speaker 2: I don't even know if I'm confident in my voice today,
- 19:40Speaker 2: and I'm on the radio, So anyway, we gotta take
- 19:43Speaker 2: our first break. Five O two three four or four ten?
- 19:45Speaker 2: Go on, I don't even have a song. Oh, I'm sorry. Well,
- 19:48Speaker 2: you're enjoying my conversation so much.
- 19:50Speaker 3: You didn't have a song, you know, yesterday on yesterday's show,
- 19:53Speaker 3: I didn't even upload my show until like ninety five, wow,
- 19:59Speaker 3: because I was just loving the conversations were happening.
- 20:02Speaker 1: I take that as a compliment.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Five O two three eight four fourteen fifty You want
- 20:06Speaker 2: to call in five O two four one four fourteen
- 20:08Speaker 2: fifty If you want to text in on the whiskey thief.

- 20:28Speaker 1: Cats coming up.
- 20:31Speaker 4: Biggy soon, Beggy soon, pretty bitchy pretty pretty.

- 20:45Speaker 1: and I need you Beggy soon.
- 20:56Speaker 5: That's it.
- 20:57Speaker 1: And the cup down and nuts.
- 20:58Speaker 5: Oh you drink something and it tastes just like jerichle.
- 21:05Speaker 1: See cold. She walked up to me and she asked
- 21:12Speaker 1: me the dents. I asked her name and the problem.
- 21:16Speaker 1: She said hello, hello, and then.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Man, you're going old school today. I like the Kings.
- 21:24Speaker 2: I haven't heard the Kings in a long time.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Playing the Kings at least?
- 21:29Speaker 2: Do you really? I don't remember them? Okay, I'm glad
- 21:32Speaker 2: you do. So you like the Kings and.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Not really you're giving me a dirty look? Why are
- 21:37Speaker 1: you giving me a dirty look? Complimenting you? Not really?
- 21:39Speaker 3: A huge Kings fan you're not not like it, but
- 21:42Speaker 3: they have a lot of songs that Matt's what I'm
- 21:44Speaker 3: trying to do here.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Yeah, and I know what you're trying to do, and
- 21:47Speaker 2: I appreciate that makes it fun. Uh And the last
- 21:50Speaker 2: few days I've been able to guess what you were doing.
- 21:52Speaker 2: I just didn't say yeah. I made it easy today okay, yeah,
- 21:55Speaker 2: and yesterday. Actually, all week has been really easy to
- 21:58Speaker 2: figure out. That's probably why I was able to figure
- 21:59Speaker 2: out out if five two four one fourteen fifty you
- 22:02Speaker 2: want to text me on the Whiskey TI text line.
- 22:04Speaker 2: I like this because this guy has not texted in

- 22:18Speaker 2: million on average players, stop the nonsense, fellas.
- 22:22Speaker 1: I love this.
- 22:24Speaker 2: I appreciate it cuz but uh, I need to upset
- 22:30Speaker 2: him a little more so he'll text in a little more.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Thank you for the text. Yeah, y'all starting rumors cuz
- 22:35Speaker 2: I mean, do I sound good? I don't sound like
- 22:38Speaker 2: this guy. I am not hip, Okay, I'm just an
- 22:41Speaker 2: idiot on the radio. So but I love that.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Ye y'all you have. That's it.
- 22:47Speaker 2: That's we need Matthew back. I am protesting till Matthew
- 22:51Speaker 2: comes back. You know, we didn't do that last week
- 22:53Speaker 2: when we were on the backside. I know we told
- 22:55Speaker 2: him we were going to and we did. Oh yeah,
- 22:57Speaker 2: we did and did well. I mean it was hard
- 22:59Speaker 2: to do it with, you know, because they all the
- 23:01Speaker 2: delay and all that kind of crap that we have
- 23:05Speaker 2: here with equipment at the station. But I'm not gonna
- 23:09Speaker 2: hate on this radio station. This radio station does a
- 23:11Speaker 2: great job ninety nine percent of the time, so I'm
- 23:14Speaker 2: not gonna hate on I don't think they do a
- 23:16Speaker 2: great job.
- 23:17Speaker 1: But y'all U of L haters. I mean, I just
- 23:20Speaker 1: I want it on the record that I am not
- 23:22Speaker 1: a U of L hater.
- 23:23Speaker 2: I love this guy. He might be my favorite texture
- 23:26Speaker 2: now I need. Let me tell you, sir, there's one
- 23:30Speaker 2: from March that says skank team.
- 23:33Speaker 1: I love that.
- 23:34Speaker 2: I love the way this guy's talking to the text line.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Let me tell you cuz I want you to text
- 23:40Speaker 2: in every day, okay, because I'm enjoying your text even
- 23:43Speaker 2: the old ones you've sent in. So one person texted
- 23:47Speaker 2: in by Booty is tender. This morning, fellas go cats.
- 23:53Speaker 3: I don't want to even try to read into what
- 23:56Speaker 3: that could possibly mean.
- 23:58Speaker 2: I don't have any idea, but okay, well, I'm glad
- 24:03Speaker 2: your booty is tender this morning. So I think he
- 24:06Speaker 2: meant my booty, didn't he not by booty?
- 24:10Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 24:10Speaker 2: Yeah, my booty is tender this morning. Okay, Well, I'm
- 24:14Speaker 2: glad your booty is tender's but it sounds.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Oh you know, what can I tell you? Last?
- 24:19Speaker 2: I went out with some great friends of ours last night.
- 24:21Speaker 2: My wife and I did. Todd Skaggs and his wife Jean,
- 24:25Speaker 2: and we went to this restaurant out and.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Man, what is it?
- 24:29Speaker 2: Do you know where Geene Snyder and Lagrange Road is?
- 24:35Speaker 2: I don't know if you call that Middletown or it's
- 24:39Speaker 2: on the outskirts of Anchorage. It's not Anchorage. We went
- 24:41Speaker 2: to a restaurant. I'm gonna give this restaurant a shout out.
- 24:45Speaker 2: We went to a place called Bricks. It's in the
- 24:48Speaker 2: Shames shopping center as Kroger.
- 24:51Speaker 1: You've heard of it? Yeah? Have you? Really?
- 24:54Speaker 2: It was fantastic. Todd's like Michael, get the pork chop,
- 24:58Speaker 2: Got the pork chop? Blackened French fries. He said, uh,
- 25:03Speaker 2: the waiter came out. You want truffle. I'm like, oh no, please, no,
- 25:07Speaker 2: yes every time, no, no, no, no, no. I cannot
- 25:12Speaker 2: stand truffle. It's disgusting to me.
- 25:15Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, id bad, Michael benefit really.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Okay, Oh it's no, it was. It was disgusting. So
- 25:22Speaker 2: I didn't do it. But anyway, one person. So I
- 25:27Speaker 2: just wanted to give a shout out to Bricks.
- 25:28Speaker 1: I was about to say, what was the point of
- 25:29Speaker 1: the store.
- 25:30Speaker 2: Give him the shout out to bricks and the fantastic
- 25:32Speaker 2: pork chop I had.
- 25:33Speaker 1: Man, we had some wine. Michael Benn was drinking wine
- 25:36Speaker 1: last week. I don't know. Oh yeah, I had three
- 25:38Speaker 1: glasses of wine. Did you cry? No? I didn't cry,
- 25:41Speaker 1: that's you. That's yeah.
- 25:43Speaker 2: I wasn't in a lazy boy watching a Hallmark movie
- 25:46Speaker 2: and crying over some kind Have you watched that Kentucky
- 25:49Speaker 2: movie by the way, about the Kentucky Derby? You know
- 25:52Speaker 2: it's it's I can tell you how it's gonna be.
- 25:54Speaker 2: And somebody was talking about it yesterday.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Oh they were on our show.
- 25:58Speaker 2: No, I was at my brought it up right, somebody
- 26:02Speaker 2: tell us what the name of the movie is it's
- 26:05Speaker 2: it's I'm sure it's like Kentucky Love. I don't know,
- 26:08Speaker 2: Kentucky Derby Love or something. Here's what happens. It's a
- 26:12Speaker 2: rich girl with a poor guy. They end up meeting.
- 26:15Speaker 2: The families don't like each other. Yeah, Darryl Hall John Oates,
- 26:18Speaker 2: thank you. But they end up the families don't like
- 26:23Speaker 2: each other because they don't want the rich girl to
- 26:25Speaker 2: be with some poor boy. They end up hooking up,
- 26:27Speaker 2: falling in love, getting married, and there's you and they
- 26:30Speaker 2: want the Kentucky Derby. There's the movie in the nutshell.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Because every Hallmark movie is the exact same way drives me.
- 26:38Speaker 2: My dad would watch Hallmark movies. It's like, Dad, come on, man,
- 26:41Speaker 2: there's gotta be better things for you to do and
- 26:42Speaker 2: watch a stupid and he would get emotional with these
- 26:45Speaker 2: stupid things. Here's my one problem with what I know
- 26:47Speaker 2: about the movie. Yes, the trainer in the movie.
- 26:52Speaker 3: Yeah was a female. Okay, what's wrong with that? That
- 26:57Speaker 3: should have been a sign, Michael, rigged.
- 27:00Speaker 1: They are not rigged. Rigged? Now, why would you say that?
- 27:04Speaker 3: Why would they put out a movie where the female
- 27:06Speaker 3: or where the dirt the trainer is a female and
- 27:09Speaker 3: in the same year and the Kentucky Derby.
- 27:11Speaker 1: If female trainer wins, I think it's great. It's rigged.
- 27:16Speaker 2: All right, Well we need a name of the movie,
- 27:19Speaker 2: so somebody please text me in before this idiot over
- 27:21Speaker 2: here just goes loses his nuts because says the dirt.
- 27:24Speaker 2: I'll tell you what's rig is the stinking steamboat race
- 27:27Speaker 2: that's rigged. Don't tell me the Belle of Louisville can
- 27:31Speaker 2: beat the Delta Queen every single year.
- 27:33Speaker 3: Did you hear this year that the Belle of Cincinnati
- 27:36Speaker 3: actually crossed the finish line first, but for whatever reason,
- 27:40Speaker 3: they gave the win to the Bell of Louisal Like,
- 27:43Speaker 3: this is our city, You're not winning exactly.
- 27:45Speaker 2: It's our race, our Derby festival. You go do your
- 27:49Speaker 2: little chili race up in Cincinnati and you can win
- 27:51Speaker 2: the chili thing. Okay, the Bell of Louisville needs to
- 27:54Speaker 2: win it every single year.
- 27:57Speaker 5: Uh.
- 27:57Speaker 1: One person said, Scoots is kiky got it? Got it? Uh?
- 28:02Speaker 2: It is wrong that I heard Is it wrong that
- 28:05Speaker 2: I heard Lola and was upset it wasn't Yoda by
- 28:08Speaker 2: weird al.
- 28:10Speaker 1: That's a great text. Sorry.
- 28:14Speaker 2: Uh, yeah, you should have texted that a little earlier
- 28:17Speaker 2: this week when it was May the Fourth be with You, But.
- 28:20Speaker 1: Oh gosh, that would have been good. You didn't even
- 28:23Speaker 1: think about that now, Joe. Yeah, you know it's funny.
- 28:25Speaker 2: There are songs that I'm like, oh, please don't play
- 28:29Speaker 2: that because I think a weird Al Yankovich. Didn't he
- 28:33Speaker 2: do one that was a Michael beat It?
- 28:35Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 28:36Speaker 2: He and he did eat it. Every time I hear
- 28:39Speaker 2: beat It, which has been a long time since I've
- 28:41Speaker 2: heard heard beat it, it's weird Al Yankovic singing eat it.
- 28:46Speaker 2: I mean, the guy it's it's the dumbest entertainment in
- 28:50Speaker 2: the world. Yet he's probably laughing to the bank.
- 28:53Speaker 1: Oh yeah, you know.
- 28:54Speaker 3: I've said for years, if if weird Al and Adam
- 28:57Speaker 3: Sandler didn't corner the funny music, I would one thousand,
- 29:02Speaker 3: that would you really? Because I could. I could come
- 29:05Speaker 3: up with some funny funny stuff.
- 29:07Speaker 1: See.
- 29:07Speaker 2: I would take church songs when I would be singing
- 29:10Speaker 2: in church and change all the words and I'd make
- 29:12Speaker 2: my girlfriend laugh. So I haven't done it. Every now
- 29:15Speaker 2: and then they'll sing an old time church song and
- 29:18Speaker 2: I'll be oh, I remember the lyrics I made for
- 29:20Speaker 2: this and I'll start singing them to myself.
- 29:22Speaker 3: It's like, oh, I can't sing this kind of fire up.
- 29:24Speaker 3: This is the day Michael singing. This is the clay,
- 29:28Speaker 3: this is the way, this.
- 29:31Speaker 1: Is the jay.
- 29:32Speaker 2: I mean, I'm going off on all kinds of Oh yeah,
- 29:34Speaker 2: this is the that the Lord won't come. But I'm
- 29:38Speaker 2: gonna be shot down by the Lord right now. One
- 29:41Speaker 2: person said, rep testified under oath during point shaving scandal
- 29:46Speaker 2: he paid his players.
- 29:49Speaker 1: This is history right here, all right.
- 29:52Speaker 2: The Curry Journal did an article about twenty six UK
- 29:55Speaker 2: players who stated they received the one hundred dollars handshakes.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Sutton had the Emory envelope with one thousand dollars. Patino
- 30:03Speaker 2: showed his true self at U of l Cali. Perry
- 30:06Speaker 2: left two schools on probation and forfeiting wins. Did you
- 30:10Speaker 2: forget or just deny?
- 30:12Speaker 5: No?
- 30:13Speaker 1: I didn't forget.
- 30:15Speaker 2: Uh, But I don't know if I ever believe the
- 30:19Speaker 2: whole Eddie Sudden Emery thousand dollars thing. I mean, how
- 30:23Speaker 2: random is it? I mean, think about the chances of
- 30:27Speaker 2: that happening today and Emory envelope goes out to California,
- 30:31Speaker 2: all of a sudden opens up. That's from Eddie Sutton
- 30:34Speaker 2: in UK to a player. Come on, that's that's there's
- 30:38Speaker 2: something up with that. That just doesn't really convince me
- 30:43Speaker 2: that this really happened. I buy it, hook lot and sink.
- 30:46Speaker 1: Do you really?
- 30:46Speaker 3: I mean, I have seen in my life. I can
- 30:49Speaker 3: tell you the story during the break, but I have
- 30:51Speaker 3: seen blatant cheating, cheating at the high school level. So
- 30:55Speaker 3: what I'm that way?
- 30:57Speaker 5: Wait?
- 30:57Speaker 2: Wait, wait, wait without mentioning high schools, you got to
- 31:01Speaker 2: tell me what you're talking about.
- 31:02Speaker 3: What is the blatant cheating that you're experiencing? All right,
- 31:05Speaker 3: So this was when I was living in jackson.
- 31:07Speaker 2: I mean, are you receiving handshakes that say, hey, no,
- 31:10Speaker 2: not to me. Call this game the right way? I
- 31:12Speaker 2: want to see you know, you call it for me,
- 31:14Speaker 2: you're getting one hundred dollars hit not to me.
- 31:16Speaker 3: So right, this was back in I want to say,
- 31:18Speaker 3: probably twenty fourteen. I had contacted a private school in
- 31:23Speaker 3: Jacksonville that plays a national basketball schedule, and I'm like, okay,
- 31:28Speaker 3: well I want to broadcast for you all. Here's my
- 31:30Speaker 3: number what I would need every game? Yeah, they only
- 31:32Speaker 3: had six home games that year, So I'm like all right, cool,
- 31:35Speaker 3: no problem. This is football basketball six home games they
- 31:39Speaker 3: play a crazy nationalskime. Really, So I meet up with
- 31:44Speaker 3: their athletic director h and assistant athletic director at a restaurant.
- 31:49Speaker 3: When I get there, the assistant athletic director sitting there
- 31:52Speaker 3: in the booth. The athletic directors nowhere to be found.
- 31:56Speaker 3: He comes walking in late on his phone and he
- 31:59Speaker 3: hangs it up, acts like I'm not even there, and
- 32:02Speaker 3: the dude doesn't even look at me.
- 32:04Speaker 1: This is weird.
- 32:05Speaker 3: He looks straight at his assistant ad and he goes, well,
- 32:09Speaker 3: that's not what I wanted to hear. Looks like we're
- 32:11Speaker 3: gonna have to drop a bag. And I'm sitting there
- 32:14Speaker 3: as a little twenty kid, and I'm like, what is happening?
- 32:18Speaker 3: What is actually going on? So they proceed to continue
- 32:22Speaker 3: to talk about this right in front of me, again
- 32:24Speaker 3: like I'm not even there. And apparently this kid was
- 32:28Speaker 3: from New York. They wanted to get him down to
- 32:30Speaker 3: their school to play. His mom had this I guess,
- 32:34Speaker 3: religious TV show. So they're sitting there talking about making
- 32:38Speaker 3: their full tithe Wait wait wait, wait, hold on, now,
- 32:41Speaker 3: slow down, because I got to comprehend this.
- 32:43Speaker 2: His mom had her own TV show and it was
- 32:46Speaker 2: a religious TV show.
- 32:47Speaker 1: Correct. Oh, I am loving this story already.
- 32:51Speaker 3: So they wanted to knock out their full tithe and
- 32:54Speaker 3: one feel swoop is what they said. I'll never forget
- 32:58Speaker 3: those words. Wow, knock it out in one fail swoop.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Okay.
- 33:02Speaker 3: So apparently they continue to that they have another conversation.
- 33:07Speaker 3: He gets up, makes another phone in front of you all,
- 33:09Speaker 3: in front of me. Yeah, keep in mind this is
- 33:11Speaker 3: all happening while I'm sitting there.
- 33:13Speaker 1: They still.
- 33:15Speaker 3: By what's going on here? Freaking out? Ok, I'm literally
- 33:18Speaker 3: freaking out. The dude doesn't even talk to me yet. Yes,
- 33:21Speaker 3: So he ends up after that phone call, coming back
- 33:26Speaker 3: to the table and the assistant a d had friends
- 33:30Speaker 3: that were assistant coaches at Florida, and he told him
- 33:34Speaker 3: the university of University of Florida. All right, And he
- 33:37Speaker 3: told the assistant ad to call his buddies at Florida
- 33:42Speaker 3: and then call the mom and tell her that they
- 33:45Speaker 3: were interested in her son, but only if he went
- 33:48Speaker 3: and played at their school.
- 33:51Speaker 1: Wow. Crazy right, And so this was high school?
- 33:56Speaker 3: What finally transpired? I have no idea. I don't know
- 34:00Speaker 3: if the kid ever even even know who the kid was.
- 34:03Speaker 3: I didn't even end up broadcasting. I didn't even end
- 34:06Speaker 3: up broadcasting the games, Michael, because I was so put
- 34:09Speaker 3: off that I am really watching blatant cheating happen right
- 34:13Speaker 3: in front of him.
- 34:15Speaker 2: I mean, the story feels incomplete now because I need
- 34:18Speaker 2: to know who this player was and whatever happened to him.
- 34:21Speaker 3: You know what, they were going to pay me a game.
- 34:23Speaker 3: This is how much money this school had. They were
- 34:25Speaker 3: going to pay me seven hundred and fifty dollars for
- 34:29Speaker 3: every game that I did.
- 34:31Speaker 1: Why did you turn that down?
- 34:33Speaker 3: I just I don't I don't really even remember how
- 34:36Speaker 3: it ended up playing out, but I do remember I
- 34:38Speaker 3: left that meeting feeling very very gross. Yeah, wow, crazy,
- 34:45Speaker 3: this just sounds like a deal with a drug dealer.
- 34:50Speaker 1: I mean, we got to create a bag for this.
- 34:52Speaker 3: Like, I mean, I had always assumed she has a
- 34:54Speaker 3: religious show up in me.
- 34:56Speaker 1: Yeah, where was this show? She? They were from New York? Wow?
- 35:01Speaker 3: But yeah, I mean I always knew cheating was happening. Yeah,
- 35:04Speaker 3: I didn't know that it was happening the way it
- 35:08Speaker 3: was at the high school level. Okay, I never never
- 35:11Speaker 3: thought that was the case, So seeing that was crazy.
- 35:14Speaker 2: Yeah, that. That is fantastic. Okay, I just that you
- 35:17Speaker 2: didn't get the rest of the story. So anyway, all right,
- 35:21Speaker 2: let me get to one more Michael. Did you notice
- 35:24Speaker 2: how Mark Pope glossed over the recruiting misses in his
- 35:27Speaker 2: video to the fans?
- 35:29Speaker 1: All right?
- 35:30Speaker 2: So Mark Pope, to his credit, did respond to a
- 35:35Speaker 2: few of the questions.
- 35:36Speaker 1: I need to watch that during this break.
- 35:38Speaker 2: Yeah, And I tell you what, you probably don't play
- 35:41Speaker 2: it coming in and play some music coming in and
- 35:43Speaker 2: then let's play the video.
- 35:45Speaker 1: Do you want to play the whole thing? It's not
- 35:47Speaker 1: that long. Yeah, it's not that long.
- 35:50Speaker 2: We'll go through it, and I I want to Yeah,
- 35:55Speaker 2: I want to talk about it a little bit. So
- 35:57Speaker 2: credit to him for following through. Now, is he gonna
- 36:00Speaker 2: do more? I don't know what do you think should
- 36:03Speaker 2: he do more?
- 36:04Speaker 3: I mean, he said he was gonna answer every question,
- 36:07Speaker 3: but he's not going to answer everything. He's not gonna
- 36:10Speaker 3: cut because they've got thousands of questions that have come
- 36:13Speaker 3: in and there's obviously a lot of trollers on there, sure,
- 36:17Speaker 3: and he's not going to answer those questions.
- 36:19Speaker 2: And is is he really reading them or does he
- 36:22Speaker 2: have some intern up there? That's reading, coach. I think
- 36:26Speaker 2: this is a good one. You need to answer that
- 36:28Speaker 2: option B I do too, because I know he's interested
- 36:32Speaker 2: in all of these questions that the true fan are asking,
- 36:37Speaker 2: and I appreciate that. But I don't know is this
- 36:41Speaker 2: is let's talk about when we get back. Is this
- 36:43Speaker 2: a good look or a bad look? Fabo two three
- 36:45Speaker 2: four fourteen fifty five two four one four fourteen fifty
- 36:49Speaker 2: I think that's a great text.
- 36:50Speaker 1: Right there.
- 36:50Speaker 2: We're gonna we're gonna dove dive into that a little more.
- 36:53Speaker 2: We dove into it a little bit right now, but
- 36:55Speaker 2: we're gon dive in a little longer. Okay, So stay
- 36:58Speaker 2: right there a lot more. Just the cats come.
- 37:29Speaker 1: Wake up, Maggie. I think I got something said.
- 37:33Speaker 5: You's late September, and I really should bet.
- 37:40Speaker 1: You back at school, your jep, your mouth. But I
- 37:47Speaker 1: feel like, oh, Maggie, I couldn't have tried anymore. My
- 37:57Speaker 1: senior high school English teacher, this was her favorite song.
- 38:03Speaker 1: Why I remember that?
- 38:04Speaker 2: I don't know, missus Briley Becky Briley at Christian Academy
- 38:08Speaker 2: of Louisville. She loved Rod. My girlfriend at the time
- 38:12Speaker 2: called him Rod the Bod it's like, Okay.
- 38:14Speaker 1: That's weird. They have a good bond.
- 38:16Speaker 2: I didn't pay attention. I don't want to look at
- 38:19Speaker 2: Rod Stewart's Bye. The only thing that stuck out I
- 38:22Speaker 2: told my mom when I came home one day from school.
- 38:24Speaker 2: I said, Mom, I want my hair to look like
- 38:25Speaker 2: Rod Stewart's. She's like, no, you will not. He had
- 38:28Speaker 2: bleached in his hair and it stood straight up. She goes,
- 38:31Speaker 2: you will not be looking like that. Michael Bennett.
- 38:33Speaker 3: Oh, here we are fifty years later and you do
- 38:36Speaker 3: same hair. You just need to stand If you stood
- 38:39Speaker 3: it up, you'd look.
- 38:40Speaker 2: Just like No, it would not. I mean he's got
- 38:43Speaker 2: blonde hair. My hair is white now with a little
- 38:46Speaker 2: dark lawn. Okay, is it really? No, it's not the same.
- 38:50Speaker 2: I've often thought about what if I freaked my wife
- 38:52Speaker 2: out and went and dyed my hair, how she would do?
- 38:54Speaker 1: How early did you go white?
- 38:57Speaker 3: Uh?
- 38:58Speaker 1: I would say? When I turned fifty? Really? Yeah, I'm screwed. Really,
- 39:03Speaker 1: I've already got so much gray in my hair in
- 39:05Speaker 1: my peace. Is it really that white? Oh? Yeah, it is? Okay?
- 39:08Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, I just I don't know. I just
- 39:11Speaker 2: I'm a little disappointed because it makes me. There are
- 39:15Speaker 2: days I'm like, wow, I look just like my dad
- 39:17Speaker 2: and I'm sixty years old.
- 39:18Speaker 1: It's like I don't feel that.
- 39:20Speaker 2: I just don't feel my age at all. You don't
- 39:23Speaker 2: act it either, No, I don't, and thank the Lord,
- 39:26Speaker 2: I don't. One person said, my burp smell like pork
- 39:29Speaker 2: runs this morning. Great text, Thanks so much. It's a
- 39:32Speaker 2: sports Collins show and you're telling us that slightly concerning
- 39:39Speaker 2: and you can't remember the last time time he had them. Also, Michael,
- 39:43Speaker 2: who is your MLB team? I thought I'd made that
- 39:46Speaker 2: kind of clear. My number one team is Tampa Bay Rays.
- 39:50Speaker 2: I've always since they went moved to Saint Petersburg or
- 39:54Speaker 2: started in Saint peters but that's always been my favorite team.
- 39:56Speaker 1: I love the Rays.
- 39:57Speaker 2: I love what they do, the fact that they're a
- 40:00Speaker 2: small market team that does a really good job for
- 40:05Speaker 2: the amount of money or the not much amount of
- 40:08Speaker 2: money that they spend. My number two teams, of course,
- 40:11Speaker 2: Cincinnati Reds, and they'll always be I believe Scoots's team
- 40:15Speaker 2: is the Reds loser. Real fans root for the White
- 40:19Speaker 2: Sox champs in twenty twenty six.
- 40:21Speaker 1: Oh he smokes, Wow.
- 40:24Speaker 2: I'm curious, Well, his numbers from Illinois. I'm curious how
- 40:27Speaker 2: you became a white Sox fan. Is it more popular
- 40:30Speaker 2: to be a white Sox fan in Chicago or a
- 40:32Speaker 2: Cubs fan?
- 40:33Speaker 1: Cubs for sure? Why is it the Cubs? Why are
- 40:35Speaker 1: the Cubs so popular in Chicago? Harry Carry? You think
- 40:38Speaker 1: that's the reason? Yep?
- 40:39Speaker 3: I mean they they were always on TV GN. That's
- 40:43Speaker 3: what made me a fan of the Cubs. White Sox
- 40:45Speaker 3: weren't on TV. That's right, all right.
- 40:48Speaker 2: So back in the day when cable was first coming out,
- 40:52Speaker 2: it was always the Mets because you got WR New
- 40:54Speaker 2: York WTBS, you had the Braves.
- 40:57Speaker 1: I was a fan he passed yesterday to see that.
- 41:00Speaker 2: Skip Carry? Oh really, no, I did not see that.
- 41:05Speaker 2: You know his daughter lives in Lexington, how about that
- 41:08Speaker 2: and has a restaurant up there. Yeah, I'm sorry to
- 41:12Speaker 2: hear that. He was an icon back in the day.
- 41:15Speaker 2: I mean what he was able to do with I
- 41:18Speaker 2: mean a lot of people credit cable for Ted Turner.
- 41:22Speaker 2: I'm sorry because he owned at one time he owned TBS, TNT,
- 41:28Speaker 2: did he own CNN, I don't remember, but Turner Broadcasting
- 41:34Speaker 2: System is what that stood for. I'm sorry to hear that.
- 41:38Speaker 2: How old was he?
- 41:39Speaker 1: I want to say eighty seven?
- 41:40Speaker 2: Wow, eighty seven years old. That's a good life right there.
- 41:44Speaker 2: Good forty eight, Handlers said. Kentucky was the original version
- 41:48Speaker 2: of that story, starring Walter Brennan and Loretta Young. Actual
- 41:52Speaker 2: footage of stonework on Keenland Clubhouse. That is the one
- 41:56Speaker 2: thing that's beautiful about Keenland is there, you know, part
- 42:01Speaker 2: of the buildings build out of the stone to get
- 42:02Speaker 2: the ivy growing off of it.
- 42:04Speaker 1: Limes green. Huh.
- 42:06Speaker 2: Limestone, I think it is limestone. Sometimes limestone is really ugly.
- 42:10Speaker 2: Sometimes it's really pretty. And I think the limestone that
- 42:13Speaker 2: they have at Keenland is just beautiful.
- 42:14Speaker 1: Basically, Indiana's whole campus is limestone. Is it really? Well?
- 42:18Speaker 1: They mine it right there, so it kind of makes sense,
- 42:20Speaker 1: doesn't it. I like it. I think it's great.
- 42:23Speaker 2: My church's limestone. I don't think it's the pretty limestone,
- 42:26Speaker 2: but it's pretty. Scoots were Stacy's mom because she has
- 42:31Speaker 2: got it going on.
- 42:33Speaker 1: I don't know if Stacy's mom will make the cut,
- 42:35Speaker 1: We'll see.
- 42:37Speaker 2: Being from Illinois and the year I started getting into
- 42:40Speaker 2: sports was the year they won it all. That's pretty cool.
- 42:43Speaker 1: Good.
- 42:44Speaker 2: So that makes sense, is that when that was? So
- 42:48Speaker 2: you're a young guy then, mister Illinois, So I'm good
- 42:51Speaker 2: for you. One person said, Rod fronted The Faces originally
- 42:57Speaker 2: the band The Faces, and he is correct.
- 42:59Speaker 1: I don't think I've ever heard of it.
- 43:00Speaker 2: And a famous guitarist was the lead guitarist for The Faces.
- 43:04Speaker 2: And you don't even know who it is, but it's okay,
- 43:08Speaker 2: it's Ron Wood. You never never heard of Ron Wood. No,
- 43:11Speaker 2: he's in the Rolling Stones. For heaven's sakes, God, you
- 43:15Speaker 2: kill me.
- 43:15Speaker 1: He never needed to know his name.
- 43:17Speaker 2: Keith Richards is the lead guitarist. Ron Wood was with
- 43:19Speaker 2: The Faces and Rod Stewart. Yeah, yeah, Well back in
- 43:22Speaker 2: the I want to say, back in the late eighties
- 43:25Speaker 2: early nineties, Rod Stewart came to Louisville for the derby
- 43:29Speaker 2: and brought his wife, who was a I can't remember
- 43:32Speaker 2: her name she was. She was a model, the real
- 43:34Speaker 2: famous model back then, and that was the big deal
- 43:37Speaker 2: back then. All right, well, let's talk about the derby
- 43:39Speaker 2: for a couple of minutes. Uh, Golden, and this is
- 43:41Speaker 2: probably not enough time, but we want to talk about
- 43:43Speaker 2: we can go in the second hour about it. Golden
- 43:46Speaker 2: Temple is going to bypass the Preakness and he's going
- 43:48Speaker 2: to target the Bellmont. I know you talked about it
- 43:51Speaker 2: pretty much at linked on your show Sunrise of Scoops.
- 43:54Speaker 2: But is this hurting horse racing or is this giving
- 43:59Speaker 2: horse racing respect?
- 44:01Speaker 1: Hurting?
- 44:02Speaker 3: Why because the casual fans not gonna tune in to
- 44:06Speaker 3: the Preakness knowing that there's no shot at a triple crowd.
- 44:09Speaker 2: It's hurting the Preakness. I don't know if it's necessarily
- 44:12Speaker 2: hurting horse race. Oh, I mean overall, no, it's it's
- 44:15Speaker 2: a blip on the radar because now people will say,
- 44:18Speaker 2: I'm not watching the Preakness. I'm just gonna wait till
- 44:21Speaker 2: the Belmont comes out when Golden Tempo comes out.
- 44:23Speaker 1: Now, do you.
- 44:24Speaker 2: Feel like it's truly to rest the horse or do
- 44:27Speaker 2: you feel like more so that the powers at b
- 44:32Speaker 2: trainer and owners feel like, well, we can't win that race.
- 44:36Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 44:36Speaker 3: I mean I had a textra on my show this
- 44:38Speaker 3: morning bring up about the shorter distance. Yeah, exactly what
- 44:42Speaker 3: that horse being a deep closer the way we saw
- 44:45Speaker 3: it doing the Derby with that shorter distance, can it
- 44:48Speaker 3: still run that type of race? I don't know I'm
- 44:52Speaker 3: not the trainer, right I couldn't be.
- 44:53Speaker 1: I don't think so.
- 44:54Speaker 2: If you go back and look at the races that
- 44:56Speaker 2: Golden Tempo had before the Kentucky Derby, they were shorter
- 44:59Speaker 2: to business Is, obviously, and it was coming up third second,
- 45:04Speaker 2: never a first, and then you get the longer distance
- 45:06Speaker 2: and guess what at one. I kind of feel like
- 45:09Speaker 2: that's the main decision right there.
- 45:11Speaker 3: I mean, I don't think this. I'll be the first
- 45:13Speaker 3: to say I don't think this horse would win this race.
- 45:15Speaker 1: But I don't think so either.
- 45:17Speaker 3: To strip that that hope away from just your casual
- 45:21Speaker 3: racing fan, that would be like, heck, yeah, Breakness is
- 45:24Speaker 3: this Saturday. Let's see if Golden Tempo can run it back.
- 45:26Speaker 3: And you don't get that chance. Yeah, you're right. I mean,
- 45:29Speaker 3: nobody's gonna watch Breakness outside of the hardcore horse racing fans.
- 45:34Speaker 3: I mean, it's still gonna be a great race.
- 45:36Speaker 1: I'm not.
- 45:36Speaker 3: I don't want to act like it's not gonna be
- 45:38Speaker 3: a great race. I'm looking forward to the Breakness, but
- 45:40Speaker 3: I was also looking forward to a potential triple Crown run.
- 45:43Speaker 1: How's it gonna be a great? Way?
- 45:44Speaker 2: Sixteen of the eighteen Kentucky Davy horses are not going
- 45:48Speaker 2: for the Breakness. You heard me correctly, So who is
- 45:52Speaker 2: going exactly? Who are the two? I don't remember who
- 45:55Speaker 2: the two are. We can look it up during the break.
- 45:57Speaker 2: We'll talk about that when we come back. But yeah,
- 46:00Speaker 2: sixteen of the eighteen Kentucky dirt I think the Puma
- 46:04Speaker 2: might be one of them. I didn't run, so oh no,
- 46:08Speaker 2: that's right. No, no, no, it might not be the Puma.
- 46:10Speaker 2: I forget who it is.
- 46:11Speaker 1: No, I mean no, that's why I'm saying puma would
- 46:13Speaker 1: make sense because it didn't run.
- 46:14Speaker 2: No, No, I'm only talking about sixteen of the horses
- 46:17Speaker 2: that actually went to the starting gate, and the Kentucky
- 46:19Speaker 2: Derby are not going to be in it.
- 46:22Speaker 1: That's crazy. Yeah, so that's insane. I know.
- 46:26Speaker 3: I mean, I'm so ticked off if I'm Preakness, which
- 46:29Speaker 3: is now Churchill.
- 46:31Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, so, I know. We got to take a break.
- 46:34Speaker 2: Our two coming up right now. We'll talk about this
- 46:37Speaker 2: and a few other things. I want to talk about
- 46:39Speaker 2: sting and I want to talk about McDonald's see in
- 46:41Speaker 2: a minute.
- 46:58Speaker 4: Welcome to Just with Michael Bennett.
- 47:04Speaker 2: I don't think I've ever seen you move so quickly
- 47:07Speaker 2: in my life.
- 47:08Speaker 1: Right thereat.
- 47:09Speaker 2: I just want you to know you freaked out because
- 47:12Speaker 2: we're getting ready to go to dead air and you
- 47:14Speaker 2: took off to the other the weather.
- 47:16Speaker 3: No, we wouldn't have gone to dead air because your
- 47:17Speaker 3: intro would have played, Okay, plays by itself?
- 47:20Speaker 1: Correct?
- 47:21Speaker 2: Okay, the weather guy talk? How long will it play
- 47:24Speaker 2: by itself? It is, and then it goes to twenty
- 47:29Speaker 2: three seconds and then it goes to dead air.
- 47:31Speaker 1: Correct.
- 47:31Speaker 2: Okay, interesting, I had about a minute to spare. Yeah,
- 47:34Speaker 2: then why'd you run? I mean, you're out of breath
- 47:36Speaker 2: now and.
- 47:37Speaker 1: Need the exercise? Good lord, right, I am all right.
- 47:41Speaker 2: Let's go back, because you reminded I thought you were
- 47:42Speaker 2: gonna play Mark Pope's interview, and I forgot. I forgot
- 47:45Speaker 2: answering the questions. Let's go to Mark Pope. How long
- 47:49Speaker 2: is it?
- 47:50Speaker 1: Three minutes? Thirteen seconds? Oh that's a long time. Not really?
- 47:53Speaker 2: Okay, all right, Well we'll play it on him taking
- 47:55Speaker 2: the questions that he took and answering the way he did.
- 48:00Speaker 1: Go ahead with that big lunation.
- 48:02Speaker 5: You never cease to amaze me. Twenty four hours in,
- 48:05Speaker 5: we're almost two million views were five thousand questions between
- 48:10Speaker 5: X and Instagram. You guys are incredible, So let's jump
- 48:13Speaker 5: right to the questions.
- 48:14Speaker 1: Kyle S.
- 48:15Speaker 5: Robertson. Is Kentucky being used by players to leverage for
- 48:19Speaker 5: more nil? Yes, we're the biggest brand in basketball. Next
- 48:23Speaker 5: question from at high School top recruiting. What changes are
- 48:27Speaker 5: being made to recruiting. You have to see a problem
- 48:30Speaker 5: with fourteen top twenty kids visiting and landing none. What's
- 48:34Speaker 5: the change with the first change? I'd like to get
- 48:36Speaker 5: all twenty kids to visit our campus. That's a major
- 48:40Speaker 5: win and there's no limits. Second, I'd like to land
- 48:43Speaker 5: a few third This year, we were chasing a generational
- 48:48Speaker 5: talent and we fell a little short. But we weren't
- 48:50Speaker 5: sending on our hands. We put together roster that we
- 48:53Speaker 5: are gonna love watching crush it in rupp Aerna. Next
- 48:57Speaker 5: question from at Feltner keV three. Another concern I have
- 49:03Speaker 5: is we are not addressing the five spot. Also, Moreno
- 49:07Speaker 5: is on the precipice of the first round. Malachi Moreno
- 49:11Speaker 5: was the number one priority for us going into this
- 49:15Speaker 5: portal season. We think that he's going to be the
- 49:17Speaker 5: best center in all of college basketball next year. Here
- 49:21Speaker 5: at Kentucky. He's also going through the draft process. He
- 49:24Speaker 5: had a great workout just last night for an NBA team.
- 49:28Speaker 5: Next week he's heading to the Combine and we're supporting
- 49:32Speaker 5: him every step of the way. This is the place
- 49:35Speaker 5: where basketball dreams come true. And Malachi has two dreams.
- 49:39Speaker 5: He's dreaming of hanging a banner at Kentucky and he's
- 49:42Speaker 5: dreaming of playing in the NBA, and so we're supporting
- 49:46Speaker 5: him chasing both of those. At the same time, we're
- 49:50Speaker 5: working hard in the portal right now to shore up
- 49:52Speaker 5: this five spot. We're going to have an unbelievable crew
- 49:56Speaker 5: at the center position. Next question from Zack Smith on Instagram.
- 50:00Speaker 5: Would you come to our wedding? Zach, I don't know
- 50:03Speaker 5: if I can make the wedding, but I have had
- 50:05Speaker 5: the opportunity to officiate at three of my former player's weddings,
- 50:09Speaker 5: which has been incredible. I do want to say best
- 50:13Speaker 5: wishes to you and Grace on this incredible day. Next
- 50:17Speaker 5: question from at the ky Game Day and at Matt
- 50:20Speaker 5: sach R two NG. What is your favorite aspect of
- 50:24Speaker 5: Zoom Diallo and Alex Wilkins game. One of the top
- 50:27Speaker 5: priorities for us going into the portal was finding creators,
- 50:31Speaker 5: and these are two of the elite creators in all
- 50:35Speaker 5: of college basketball. They are going to form a dynamic
- 50:39Speaker 5: duo for Kentucky basketball. They are both over thirty percent
- 50:44Speaker 5: assist straight. There's only currently one other roster in the
- 50:48Speaker 5: entire country with two players over a thirty percent assist rate.
- 50:51Speaker 5: This is going to be awesome. Last question from Instagram
- 50:55Speaker 5: from at Steph Palmer. Where you've been so in the
- 50:59Speaker 5: last few days. I was in Tel Aviv, Lubliana, Milan, Cremona,
- 51:06Speaker 5: as well as five or six cities in the States.
- 51:08Speaker 5: But I am so happy to be back in Lexington.
- 51:12Speaker 2: Let's go cats, all right, let's talk about our first impressions. Uh,
- 51:21Speaker 2: the first thing it stuck out at me? Can I
- 51:24Speaker 2: this is probably a little too much of a criticism.
- 51:26Speaker 2: Put the music in the ground, that is.
- 51:28Speaker 1: Can we talk about the I felt like it's your
- 51:32Speaker 1: first thing too.
- 51:32Speaker 3: I wrote three things down and that is the first
- 51:35Speaker 3: thing on my list. I did not need elevator music
- 51:37Speaker 3: in the background.
- 51:38Speaker 2: I felt like I was listening to a motivational selling
- 51:41Speaker 2: thirty second spot by Tony Robbins.
- 51:43Speaker 1: This is what I felt like.
- 51:44Speaker 3: I felt like I was getting a massage, and that
- 51:46Speaker 3: made the video extremely boring because I got sleepy.
- 51:51Speaker 2: And then every time he goes to another questions, we
- 51:53Speaker 2: get the little It's like, why are we doing a
- 51:56Speaker 2: little bird dear whistling?
- 51:57Speaker 3: Also, I don't need the entire Twitter I don't need
- 52:00Speaker 3: you to say s Stevens seven two, four three nine.
- 52:04Speaker 3: I don't need the numbers on their who cares?
- 52:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I understand. I think he's trying to make a
- 52:10Speaker 2: little on the personal side to know that he actually
- 52:13Speaker 2: answered people that ask these questions. Now, do you like
- 52:19Speaker 2: the questions that they chose him to answer? Were they
- 52:22Speaker 2: a bit on the softball side? Cause I didn't feel
- 52:26Speaker 2: like there were any difficult questions right there. And when
- 52:28Speaker 2: he did get a difficult question, it's like we had
- 52:32Speaker 2: a generational talent that we were going after. And I'm thinking, Okay,
- 52:37Speaker 2: he didn't name the person, but you know who he's
- 52:41Speaker 2: talking about. Is Tyrone Stokes? Is Tyrone Stokes generational?
- 52:45Speaker 1: I would say, so, would you really?
- 52:48Speaker 3: I mean, by all appearances on the outside, it seems like, okay,
- 52:51Speaker 3: now we'll see how it plays out of Kansas.
- 52:53Speaker 1: Maybe he's not.
- 52:54Speaker 2: I just I think He's a definitely a talent. I'm
- 52:57Speaker 2: not going to discount that he is not a good
- 53:00Speaker 2: basketball by he's a great basketball player, but I'm just
- 53:03Speaker 2: not going to define him as a generational talent.
- 53:06Speaker 1: You wouldn't put him in the same category as like
- 53:08Speaker 1: a Zion Williamson.
- 53:09Speaker 2: No, I don't think Zion Williamson was a generational tap
- 53:13Speaker 2: Absolutely he was. The Only thing I remember about him
- 53:17Speaker 2: is losing and not making a championship. That generational talent
- 53:21Speaker 2: wins championships, and Zion would have if he could stayed
- 53:25Speaker 2: away from the and his blowout tennis shoe. That was
- 53:30Speaker 2: the other part which should have just blown up Nike,
- 53:32Speaker 2: but it didn't for some reason. I mean, there are
- 53:35Speaker 2: other players out there that I think are generational talent.
- 53:39Speaker 2: I still think John Wall was a generational talent. Yet
- 53:42Speaker 2: he goes to Washington, which was the biggest mistake. Not
- 53:46Speaker 2: for John, but it's because the fact that he had
- 53:49Speaker 2: to go there. It's a shame he couldn't get on
- 53:51Speaker 2: the team and become a player that he could have been.
- 53:58Speaker 1: I think.
- 54:00Speaker 2: Trying to think that there are other players out there,
- 54:02Speaker 2: but I just I don't think he was generational talent.
- 54:05Speaker 3: But why the wedding question. I thought that was a
- 54:09Speaker 3: great I thought he liked that. I thought he handled
- 54:11Speaker 3: that one pretty much. Okay, not sure i'll be able
- 54:12Speaker 3: to make now the question he didn't handle very well,
- 54:15Speaker 3: in my opinion, was.
- 54:16Speaker 1: The Malachi Moreno one.
- 54:18Speaker 3: Okay, that was our he says, that was our number
- 54:21Speaker 3: one priority as a staff this offseason to make sure
- 54:24Speaker 3: that we get him back in the fold.
- 54:26Speaker 1: But then he.
- 54:26Speaker 3: Addresses the whole NBA draft thing and it's like we're
- 54:31Speaker 3: we're supporting him every step of the way and wish
- 54:33Speaker 3: him the best.
- 54:34Speaker 1: Well exactly, it's talking out both sides your mouth.
- 54:36Speaker 3: So you do you think you're getting Malachi back? Or
- 54:40Speaker 3: do you not think you're getting Malachi back? Because if
- 54:43Speaker 3: that was your number one priority, right to get him
- 54:45Speaker 3: back into the fold and he doesn't come back, yeah,
- 54:48Speaker 3: that is yet another whiff.
- 54:50Speaker 1: Yeah. And then he talks about, well, where you've been.
- 54:53Speaker 2: I've been all over the place, to Tel Aviv, to
- 54:57Speaker 2: a Slovenia, and he's talking about all these places he
- 55:00Speaker 2: going to, but nobody commits. To contempt what I mean resulted?
- 55:04Speaker 2: How much did all of that cost for zero commits?
- 55:09Speaker 2: So that's where I get a little worried. Honestly, this
- 55:13Speaker 2: video kind of made I don't want to say it
- 55:16Speaker 2: made him look worse, but it kind of made him
- 55:18Speaker 2: look worse. I mean, the whole question about he had
- 55:21Speaker 2: fourteen to the top twenty recruits come on to campus.
- 55:24Speaker 3: What would you like to see change? But I'd like
- 55:26Speaker 3: to see all twenty come on campus. But that's all
- 55:29Speaker 3: fine and dandy, Mark, but you're still not landing any
- 55:32Speaker 3: of them.
- 55:33Speaker 2: Yeah, that didn't answer the question. I don't care about it.
- 55:36Speaker 2: It's just like the poor kid that kept reporting, Oh,
- 55:39Speaker 2: we just scheduled a zoom call.
- 55:41Speaker 1: I don't care.
- 55:42Speaker 2: I don't care if you get him on campus. What
- 55:45Speaker 2: I care about is who's committing to your program. That's
- 55:48Speaker 2: what I care about. Landing them on campus doesn't tell
- 55:51Speaker 2: me anything. When you start getting them to commit to
- 55:55Speaker 2: your program, your your school, your team, your everything, then
- 56:01Speaker 2: I'll start listening and appreciate it and respect you. But
- 56:04Speaker 2: to bring him on campus, that's your response. Okay, but
- 56:08Speaker 2: he I mean you said it. He whiffed. He whiffed
- 56:11Speaker 2: on everything. I like the effort. Listen, I'm not going
- 56:14Speaker 2: to criticize him for everything. Yeah, I like the fact
- 56:18Speaker 2: that he tried to do this for sure. I just
- 56:20Speaker 2: don't think it turned out that great.
- 56:21Speaker 1: And maybe he does more.
- 56:23Speaker 2: I don't know, but he says he will do more
- 56:27Speaker 2: and he's going to answer everything, and he don't say
- 56:29Speaker 2: you're going to answer every question. You're not going to
- 56:31Speaker 2: answer every question, nor should you answer every question. What
- 56:34Speaker 2: you should do instead of handpicking questions by an intern,
- 56:38Speaker 2: you should go on radio shows and talk about it.
- 56:41Speaker 2: Stop doing this kind of stuff. That's the part that
- 56:45Speaker 2: UK is really frustrating me. You know, uh uh uh,
- 56:48Speaker 2: Mark Stoops. He was a friend. He has completely ghosted me.
- 56:53Speaker 2: I have reached out to him, I've called him on
- 56:55Speaker 2: the phone, I've texted him. He's ghosted me since he's
- 56:58Speaker 2: left UK. Well, I know we talked before. The last
- 57:02Speaker 2: time I talked to him was two games into the
- 57:04Speaker 2: season last year and then that was it. Now we
- 57:08Speaker 2: had a lot really nice long conversation. Uh when before
- 57:13Speaker 2: the season and all of a sudden, you know, you've
- 57:17Speaker 2: got all of this going on and then he's like, Okay,
- 57:20Speaker 2: UK doesn't want to be doing any radio shows.
- 57:22Speaker 1: Uh.
- 57:23Speaker 2: You got other people that are working for UK, some
- 57:27Speaker 2: of the sports announcers, not play by play, but we're
- 57:32Speaker 2: talking color announcers Jack Gibbons, JM. I doesn't want him
- 57:36Speaker 2: doing any interviews, and so JM, I and UK are
- 57:40Speaker 2: shutting down a lot of stuff. Yeah, and I don't
- 57:43Speaker 2: like this. I haven't they been doing that for years though, No,
- 57:47Speaker 2: I wouldn't say they've been doing it for you years
- 57:49Speaker 2: with certain programs. Yeah, yeah, because I mean it's it's
- 57:53Speaker 2: not the case with will Stein. He's out, He's been
- 57:56Speaker 2: on all kinds of media here. You're exactly correct. He
- 57:59Speaker 2: hadn't been on this show. But I'm told he's coming
- 58:01Speaker 2: on Mark Pope as soon as the roster is complete.
- 58:06Speaker 2: I'm told Mark Pope will come on just the Cats.
- 58:10Speaker 2: We'll see if it happens. But the fact that they
- 58:12Speaker 2: keep shutting down all these people within the athletic department,
- 58:16Speaker 2: it's really frustrating because let them have a voice, don't
- 58:20Speaker 2: let them do this. And it leads me to believe
- 58:23Speaker 2: is it because of Jami or is it someone in
- 58:26Speaker 2: the athletic department.
- 58:28Speaker 1: I don't get it.
- 58:29Speaker 3: I just feel like they could do a much better
- 58:31Speaker 3: job at controlling the narratives. And that's really kind of
- 58:35Speaker 3: been the issue this offseason, right and really going back
- 58:38Speaker 3: to last season is it doesn't feel like they have
- 58:41Speaker 3: control of the narrative, and that's problematic. Like Louisville, for instance,
- 58:46Speaker 3: you're not hearing them come out and talk about the
- 58:48Speaker 3: guys they want that that hasn't came out. How many
- 58:51Speaker 3: names have you heard associated with Kentucky that they haven't landed?
- 58:56Speaker 3: And how many names have you heard associated with Louisville
- 58:59Speaker 3: that they haven't landed? Not very many, because Louisvill's doing
- 59:02Speaker 3: a much better job controlling what gets out and how
- 59:05Speaker 3: it gets out and just all that stuff with the
- 59:08Speaker 3: media because they have a relationship with the media and
- 59:12Speaker 3: doesn't feel like this Kentucky coaching stapf Well.
- 59:14Speaker 2: I mean, you got an athletic director it's on his
- 59:16Speaker 2: way out. You got a president of the university that
- 59:20Speaker 2: more than likely on his way out very soon. They're
- 59:23Speaker 2: trying to hire new athletic directors, which is the dumbest
- 59:27Speaker 2: idea in the world. But who's running the show. I
- 59:30Speaker 2: don't know who's running UK. I don't know who's running
- 59:33Speaker 2: the athletic department at this point. So who's making all
- 59:37Speaker 2: these decisions?
- 59:38Speaker 1: Is it JMI? Is that somebody completely out of the
- 59:42Speaker 1: university and if it is why.
- 59:45Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, either of those scenarios that shouldn't be
- 59:48Speaker 3: not that good. No, yeah, it should be UK running it.
- 59:51Speaker 3: And you know what, for that fact, it should be
- 59:54Speaker 3: the coach going say, you know what, I need to
- 59:57Speaker 3: go speak to people. I can't do these random things
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: here like this. I just think it's a bad look.
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: I just don't think it's a maybe it's not maybe
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: that's a little strong. I don't think it's a good look.
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: Let's just turn it around. It just does not look
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: good for UK right now. And all the things that
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: are going on with the basketball program. To me, if
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: I was Mark Pope, I would be on every single
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: show I could right now.
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: But here's here's my question. How can things be going
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: the way they are on the men's side, But yet
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: Kenny Brooks is having no issues. Matter of fact, Kenny
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: Brooks is smoking it right now.
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: All right, let's talk about Kenny Brooks right now. Why
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: why is there such a big difference UK and Kenny
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: Brooks women's basketball team added a six foot four young
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: lady guard, six foot four guard in women's basketball, that's awesome.
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: Her name is Sevka are Aisha Sevka and she's from.
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: She's Slovenian, which means she's slat. What country is Slovenia?
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: Is that it? I don't know.
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: I guess it's towards Russia. It's one of those kind
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: of names where I pronounced it right because I spelled
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: it phonically. Okay, So I know it's aisha. But if
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: you look at it, it has an aj S with
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: an upside down triangle above the S and then an A.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: What does that mean? Nobody knows?
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: Okay, so we just over in that part of eastern Europe.
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: We just add certain characters to letters every language. Does
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: that okay?
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: All right? We put a dot above our eyes.
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: She was she's a twenty year old, was pick tenth
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: overall in the twenty twenty five w NBA Draft for
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: the Chicago Sky. I heard you talk about that, and
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: you didn't know that. But she did not join the
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: team because she opted to remain in Europe to represent
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: the Slovenian national team and to also get her high
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: school degree. So that's why she didn't play. Now that
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: she did not play for that team, she's eligible right
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: now and joining the team. I'm excited for Kenny Brooks
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: because You're right, what is going on? And I think
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: that's a fair question. Why is it so different between
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: Kenny Brooks, who's the cool dude on the block, and
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: Mark Pope, who's kind of the outside looking in trying
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: to be the cool dude. They're joined the cool dudes
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: out there on the block.
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: Kenny's bringing in three all Americans. That's typically the case
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: on the men's side of things. I mean, and now
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: you're telling me he's gonna add a girl to the
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: fold that got drafted tenth overall in the WNBA.
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: I think you get right there.
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: Oh and by the way, you're bringing up back Clara Strack,
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: one of the best bigs in the country. They're going
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: to be scary next year. But as to why the difference,
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: I have no idea. It doesn't make any sense to me,
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: and I've said it. I guess it was earlier this
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: week or last week, but it just it does. It
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: feels like Kentucky women's basketball is becoming what man has
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: always the.
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: Cool place to be exactly. It is crazy. And I'm
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: hoping that Kenny Brooks gets it on so much that
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: he can serve surpass South Carolina because you know, the
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: really tough teams in the SEC South Carolina number one,
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: Texas number two, and uh and then outside of that,
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: you got yukon if he could somehow get enough talent
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: to where he can beat those teams. Man, there's no
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: telling what women's basketball is going to do because you
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: get women's basketball really going, and I feel like he
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: is on the cusp of having a really good team
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: that people Big Blue Nation and beyond will be going
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: nuts for UK basketball. I'm just telling you that's how
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: I feel.
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: Kenny wins a championship or Stein makes the playoffs, what
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: happens first.
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: That's a great question, all right, Kenny Brooks wins a
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: title or will Stein makes the playoffs. I'm gonna lead
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: with what Kenny has going on right now. Here's the difference.
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: I think will Stein has it rocking at UK. Because
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: somebody predicted yesterday from CBS Sports that UK is gonna
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: make a Bowl game this year. They predict that UK
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: will win six games. I think that's a long shot.
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: I think a successful team for will Stein's first year
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: is gonna be five wins. I think that'll be successful,
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: but there'll be a lot of close games, and that's
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: what's gonna keep people into UK football this year because
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: this team's gonna stick together. They're gonna want to play
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: for Stein because they're having fun, and because he's got
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: so much young energy out there, they're gonna fall in
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: love with him, and the fan base is gonna fall him.
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: That's my prediction with will Stein. I really believe Kenny
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: Brooks will win a title before will Stein gets to
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: a playoff game.
- 1:04:51Speaker 3: I do think it's going to be more tough for Kenny,
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: just because you do have to get over the hump
- 1:04:58Speaker 3: of those South Carolinas and your Yukon's and now even
- 1:05:02Speaker 3: U C.
- 1:05:02Speaker 5: L A.
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: And there's a lot of where we get a lot
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: of parody in the men's game. We don't get so
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: much on the women's side of things. It's pretty much
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: the same three or four teams every single year. But
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: if you can get to a spot where you're getting
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: past those teams, I think i'd probably agree with you
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: that Kenny wins the champions.
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: Well, here's the thing, it's will Stein's first year, yeah,
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: and Kenny Brooks has a two and a half year
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: head start. Sure, So that's why I think Kenny Brooks
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: has it more going on than will Stein, even though, man,
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: I'm excited, I'm excited for both.
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: But three years ago, we wouldn't have been thought we'd
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: be in a position where we could potentially be talking
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: about a Kenny cheer.
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: Not at all, not even close. And I think it's
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: gonna the regular thing is going to happen. Is Kenny
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: Brooks is going to beat U of L on a
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: regular basis.
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: I think that series is gonna get really really good.
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: You think so.
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: Because both of them, I mean Jeff Walls, he recruits
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: his asshole, he does and he's a good guy. Both
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: of those teams are gonna have so much talent.
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: Here's what's fun is that.
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: I think that basketball is gonna get serious again between
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: the UK U of L. I think that volleyball is
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: there right now. Craig Skinner has it going on. I
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: don't know U of L's volleyball coach, but man, that's
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: a fun series, I think. Okay, I think that basketball,
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: women's basketball is gonna be a lot of fun. And
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: then with Will steedin coming in and bringing the unbelievable
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: talent he's bringing in, I think football is gonna be
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: fun again. I really do, And so I fully expect
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: within the next year or two UK football will start
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: beating U of L again. That's gonna be my prediction
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: right there. So it's gonna be a lot of fun.
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: And my buddy's over there, you know, twenty minutes down
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: the road are gonna be h you're funny, Michael, and
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: then to guess what it's gonna happen. So anyway, yeah, yeah, exactly. No,
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: we're not gonna call him that. Now, come on, uh,
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: follow two three eight four fourteen fifty. You want to
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: call in follow two four one four fourteen fifty. I'll
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: get because text lines going crazy. Now we'll get to
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: your textas when we get back. Plus uh, the singer
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: sting from the band police he is doing something to
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: his kids. I want your opinion. Do you think this
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: is a good idea or do you think you feel
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: kind of bad for the kids. We'll talk about that
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: next as soon as we get back.
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: This is just a.
- 1:07:24Speaker 4: Cats last segment on this Thursday.
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: God, this week is just flown by it. You know,
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: in two days it's going to be a week from
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: when derby. I mean, it's it's just what happened. I mean,
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: it just flies by. But did you see where the
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: FIFA president, you know, the the world Uh what's it called?
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: The World Cup? Just there you go, FIFA. Yeah, that's
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: how much I listened to soccer. Okay, I don't care
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: if it's five a FIFA.
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: You don't like soccer without telling me, well exactly, there
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: you go.
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: I do not put me in a booth in middle
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: of Times Square enforced me to. That's imprisonment as far
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: as I'm concerned. But FIFA, there what difference. It's FIFA FIFA,
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: you know what I'm talking about.
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: I've never heard anybody say fight. I don't care.
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: Well, nobody's ever heard a Nill either. Okay, and you
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: might as well say Nile. I just come on. But
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: he's being he's being criticized. You heard about this, didn't you?
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: Or did you not? I didn't about the prices? How
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: much ticket prices are ridiculous? Of course, you know the
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: games are going to be in the US, Mexico, and Canada.
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: They are five times more than the tickets cost at
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: Guitar back in twenty twenty two. Five times. And his
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: response is that's the price of doing business in the
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: United States. That's a bad answer. It's a bad look
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: for us. Well, I agree with that too, because you know,
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: I don't know if you saw it. Recently, four tickets
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: went up for sale for FIFA of Finals. Did you
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: see how much they were? Two point three million dollars
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: a yach, Oh my gosh, I'm not exactly now, now
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: they haven't been sold out. Here's here's the hidden they
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: haven't been sold exactly. He's going to shell out nine
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: mil to go to a soccer game. Listen, if they
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: pay me to go, i'll go. But I'm not going.
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: I won't even apply for a credential. I don't care.
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: But I saw this and I thought this is ridiculous.
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: He said that a lot of it has to do
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: because you can go to the United States and you
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: can resell your tickets, and that a lot of scalpers
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: are going to be reselling these tickets making a lot
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: of money. So therefore we want to have our own
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: resale site so this doesn't happen and we make all
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: the money. It's really selfish. Now here's the part that
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: I do kind of like. And this is where I
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: really like the owner of the Atlanta Falcons, because you
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: know the games are going to be played some of
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: them are going to be played at Mercedes been Stadium
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: where the Falcon's play in Atlanta. Now, the owner of
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: the Falcons has said, we want to show people from
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: around the world what Southern hospitality is all about. So
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: my plan is to show FIFA that we want to
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: keep the prices the same as they charge them at
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: the Falcon's games, which is really cheap, really cheap.
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: All right. You want to know what something costs? Hit
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: all right? Coca Cola refillable cup three bucks two dollars refillable. Yeah,
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: it's great.
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: A hot dog two dollars, waffle fries three dollars, A
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: bud Light draft beer five dollars, popcorn two bucks, pizza
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: slice three bucks, it's unbelievable. A souvenir refillable cup is
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: four dollars. Good for him. You know, this guy's a billionaire.
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: He started a company called home Depot. That's how he
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: made all his money. And do you think FIFA says,
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: because you know they the Falcons will not have us
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: say as far as how much the prices will be
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: for concessions. Is there any way that FIFA says, Okay,
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: you can do that, or do you think they're just
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: gonna up the prices for concessions and say, now we're
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: not gonna listen to you. We're gonna do what we
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: want because we gotta make as much money as we can.
- 1:12:06Speaker 3: I truly have no idea that this is going to
- 1:12:10Speaker 3: be fascinating to see how it plays out just because
- 1:12:12Speaker 3: of all this.
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:12:14Speaker 3: I would think if you've got somebody that it plays
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: their football games in that stadium and they don't want
- 1:12:21Speaker 3: to raise the concessions, I think you just let them
- 1:12:23Speaker 3: do that. But FIFA is greedy. I mean, it's it's
- 1:12:27Speaker 3: a huge organization. Big organizations are all greedy, so I
- 1:12:30Speaker 3: don't they probably won't let it fly.
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: I'm kind of surprised that the stadiums would say, okay,
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: you can dictate the prices.
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: It's like, well, wait a minute, are.
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: They is FIFA pain for the stadium and that's how
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: they're getting around this and then they get to dictate
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: what prices are No idea.
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: I don't either. I was just.
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: Curious about that. I just I saw this and it
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: just turned me off so much.
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: A lot of logistics that go into stuff like that.
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: I mean, let's just screw the fan because we know
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: that some just won't get to go because they can't
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: afford it, and it's going to be mostly corporations that'll
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: be able. That's what's happening with the Super Bowl, every
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: major sport out there, it's become corporate run. And if
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: you're not a part of some corporate or a big
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: customer some corporations, you're not going to get to go
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: see your favorite team.
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: Playing the championship game. And I think that's so sad.
- 1:13:16Speaker 3: I mean, even if I'm a billionaire, I'm not paying
- 1:13:19Speaker 3: two point three million one ticket. Did you see where
- 1:13:22Speaker 3: the tickets were?
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: No? I did not. They're in the end zone behind
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: a goal. Are you serious? If I'm paying two point.
- 1:13:28Speaker 3: Three million dollars, I better be on the field at
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: the fifty yard live.
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, I I for fifty yards like I know,
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: you know what I mean, I know, midfield wise? Yeah, yeah,
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: I get it.
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: Well, let's get back to the whiskey thief text line
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: before we have to go today. The Belmont easyy isn't
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: even ran on the same track run. Uh, it's at Saratoga,
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: so they for four go traditions there but that but wait,
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: that's just for one more year. So they've done it
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: the last two years because they're doing the same thing
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: that they're doing a Pimblico. They completely tore down Belmont
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: where the stands are.
- 1:14:04Speaker 3: Why is they called Belmont at the Big A if
- 1:14:07Speaker 3: it's being ran at Saratoga.
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no, all right, let me clarify a
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: lot of this. Let's start one with Belmont. So Belmont
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: was completely torn down, and so that's why the Belmont
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: Stakes has taken a little longer for them to rebuild.
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: So that's why they're doing one more year of the
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: Belmont Stakes Saratoga.
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: Now.
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: The reason they're calling it the Belmont at the Big A,
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: that's Aqueduct. It's a completely different racetrack. So they're doing
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: the Belmont Steaks the big racing days at Saratoga.
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: Now. The rest of the card that they're doing just
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: on regular race days are running at Aqueduct. Gotcha.
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: So that's why they call it Belmont at the Big A. Okay, yeah,
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: all right, So yeah, I just want to make sure
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: you understood that one person said UK better roster this
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: coming year. U of L has nose scores. I love
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: the hate talk. I mean, nothing makes me happier than
- 1:15:06Speaker 2: they read something like that to all the U of
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: L listeners out there, because that's that that makes me happy.
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: And then then when they respond back with with sayings
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: sometimes I can't even read on the radio. It just
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: makes me smile. It's gonna be a long summer.
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: It's gonna be a lot. What do you mean, It's
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: gonna be a fun long So no, when we get
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: all the IU you mean, well and UK fans all
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: worked up, Chris, I'm the UK fan. We're gonna be
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: debating this same thing for the next six.
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: Months and it nothing makes me happier because people want
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: to turn in a tune in and listen to the
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: crap that we're talking about in the text that we
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: read out of here. I mean, we're gonna get all
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: the fans so worked up, by the way, I don't
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: know if you know this or not. Mark Cuban made
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: a comment in a podcast last couple of days that
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: he helped pay for Mendoza Yea Love that. Were you
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: surprised by that? I don't think anybody was surprised by it.
- 1:16:00Speaker 3: I was, I mean I was surprised his quote that
- 1:16:03Speaker 3: he came out with and said, basically, I told them
- 1:16:06Speaker 3: that i'd pay for him if we went out and
- 1:16:07Speaker 3: get Fernando. So you're telling me, Mark Cubans, this expert
- 1:16:11Speaker 3: talent evaluator, let's let him go out and get every
- 1:16:14Speaker 3: quarterback he wants in the future. Sounds like a great idea.
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: But the part that surprised me He graduated, I think
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: they said in eighty one, and yet that was the
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: first time he's ever given money to IU.
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: I was kind of surprised by that. So why the
- 1:16:29Speaker 3: change all of a sudden, at least for nil purposes?
- 1:16:31Speaker 3: Because he's given money to like the media school and
- 1:16:35Speaker 3: stuff that's different, but never towards athletics.
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: Never.
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: And that's the part that really surprised me. He never
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: made a donation to the academic I'm sorry, the athletic department.
- 1:16:47Speaker 3: Now, maybe he did for like upgrades or something when
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: they upgraded Assembly Hall. I'm sure they got some money
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: from him, but yeah, never for the athlete.
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: Yeah, John, here, I am leaving everything to my son. Yes,
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: he is working now and he is learning to weld,
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: so he will earn his own money. However, I know
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: how hard it is in this world, and I want
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: him to have a better chance in life than I did.
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: Jesus gave the greatest gift of salvation and love for free.
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: That is where I learned to give and love.
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: From It's great Mansa. I think so too.
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: That's where I was kind of surprised. Come on, sting,
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: leave your family a little something. I was just really
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: surprised by that when when really wealthy people make those
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: decisions too, because my parents, my dad did really well,
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: and he left a lot of money for certain things,
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: and then he left money for his kids. So he
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: gave a lot of money to our local church here,
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: he gave a lot of money to the schools that
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: he went to, and then he left some for us.
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: I don't have a problem with that.
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: And well, you leave money for your kids.
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: Absolutely sure will Yeah so your kids, no, absolutely not,
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: my gosh, because you'll spend it on fireball.
- 1:18:05Speaker 3: That's what you're gonna do. I would like to think
- 1:18:07Speaker 3: fireball and donuts. I would like to think at that
- 1:18:10Speaker 3: point in my life, I'll be out of my fireball stage. Unfortunately,
- 1:18:14Speaker 3: I don't think you'll ever be out of your file.
- 1:18:16Speaker 3: But if they make a donut at the local place
- 1:18:19Speaker 3: over here that's made out of fireball, you will probably
- 1:18:23Speaker 3: weigh five hundred pounds in a matter of a month
- 1:18:25Speaker 3: or two. I'd at least give it a whorl okay.
- 1:18:29Speaker 3: One person said, if the Belmont had been one hundred
- 1:18:32Speaker 3: yards shorter, Real Quiet would have been the next triple
- 1:18:35Speaker 3: Crown winner. Instead, Victory Gallup nailed him on the wire.
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: Leave it alone.
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: If carry Back sixty one, Northern Dancer sixty four, Wow,
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: Cowie King sixty six, Ford Past sixty, I can't read
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: all of this failed in the Belmont after capturing the
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: first who maybe if they'd had a little more time
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: between the Derby and Preakness they had, they may have
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: had a better chance. You are absolutely correat. We don't know,
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: but that's the test. Now we're going to make it
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: easier to produce more winners. Where does that end? Maybe
- 1:19:11Speaker 2: participation medals. By the way, I forgot another horse. So anyway,
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: Tim tam In fifty eight, who shattered his sesimal and
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: deep stretch of Belmont. So anyway, American Pharaoh and Justifi
- 1:19:29Speaker 2: didn't need any extra time. And that's in the last
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: ten years. You're exactly correct about that. So anyway, all right, everybody,
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: we got to go. I appreciate all the texts today.
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: It's been a lot of fun. One person said, Zach
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: soccer players are also called grass fairies. Okay, that's a
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: great way. That's what his brother is right there. We'll
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: see tomorrow. Everybody have a great day and we'll have
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: a fun Friday.
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: A baser at
