- 0:03I hope you were locked in, braced down,
- 0:05and ready for the storm of the century.
- 0:21I love the chase and the hunt,
- 0:22and I set the pace when I'm running.
- 0:24I always take what I want,
- 0:25and I always give it one hundred.
- 0:27Don't need a bank, no I'm funded.
- 0:29Play the game like it's nothing.
- 0:30I'm always thankful for something.
- 0:31Don't take for granted, stay humble.
- 0:33Now wake up!
- 0:34It's time to look at the enemy.
- 0:37Look in the mirror if he is no
- 0:39friend to me.
- 0:40It's not working out,
- 0:41maybe it's the chemistry.
- 0:42It's time to break up so I can
- 0:44make a better me.
- 0:44Eeeeee, abadabadoo!
- 0:50It's lunch time.
- 0:53What is going on, everybody?
- 0:54Welcome to Lunch with the Clydesdale.
- 0:57I'm the Clydesdale.
- 0:58He's Cowboy.
- 1:02And we are here bringing it to you.
- 1:06We've got the storm of the century rolling
- 1:08in in Ohio and I think all of
- 1:10the eastern side of the United States.
- 1:15I've heard rumor that Louisiana is
- 1:17supposed to get some snow this weekend.
- 1:21It depends on which forecast you look at.
- 1:23As of right now,
- 1:23it's going to rain Saturday and Sunday and
- 1:26then stop sometime around two o'clock.
- 1:29And then Monday and Tuesday is going to
- 1:30be in the twenties in the morning.
- 1:33That was the last thing I saw earlier.
- 1:35Cause we have me and the wife have
- 1:36a Mardi Gras ball to attend Saturday
- 1:39night.
- 1:41Mardi Gras coming up.
- 1:43Yeah.
- 1:44It's happening depending on who you ask or
- 1:47where you go.
- 1:48It's a whole thing.
- 1:50Uh,
- 1:52Right now, like I said,
- 1:53I looked at it this morning and it's
- 1:54going to rain.
- 1:55If you listen to the weather forecast on
- 1:57the radio, we're all going to die.
- 1:59Like everybody's going to die.
- 2:02It doesn't matter where you are,
- 2:04what's going on.
- 2:05They're all going to freeze to death and
- 2:07there's going to be a, uh,
- 2:08seven feet ice and everybody's going to
- 2:10die.
- 2:11It's ridiculous.
- 2:12Yeah,
- 2:12my wife texted me that their corporate
- 2:16office said, hey, everybody be prepared.
- 2:19Work from home on Monday.
- 2:21Don't come in, you know,
- 2:22because it's going to be too dangerous.
- 2:24Yeah.
- 2:24And maybe even extended through the week.
- 2:28And I'm like,
- 2:30this stuff happens every year.
- 2:33And I'm not saying we're not going to
- 2:36get it, but fifty-fifty,
- 2:38we get it or we don't get it.
- 2:40And we'll probably get two inches of snow
- 2:42and it won't even affect anything.
- 2:43Cause we're used to that here in Ohio
- 2:45and it won't be nothing.
- 2:48Yeah.
- 2:48But everybody in there is losing their
- 2:51damn mind.
- 2:52Go into the grocery store yesterday.
- 2:53I just went because I got paid.
- 2:55I wanted to go get some groceries and
- 2:59everything's gone.
- 3:01Everything's gone because, Oh my God,
- 3:04we might be stuck for two days.
- 3:08Oh,
- 3:14It's the best.
- 3:16Go ahead.
- 3:17Oh, no.
- 3:17The thing that's upsetting me is I have
- 3:19a biopsy on Monday and it's an hour
- 3:21drive north.
- 3:23Oh, yeah.
- 3:24And so they called me today and they're
- 3:26like, well, we're going to set this up.
- 3:29You're going to be the first person in
- 3:31on Monday morning, be here at six thirty.
- 3:33But if they call for a level three
- 3:35snow emergency, we're canceling.
- 3:41Well,
- 3:41level three in Ohio means that you're not
- 3:45allowed to drive on the road.
- 3:46So I get it.
- 3:47Okay.
- 3:48Level three,
- 3:48I'm not allowed to be on the road
- 3:49or I can be arrested.
- 3:51Yeah,
- 3:52I don't want to be arrested trying to
- 3:53get to a biopsy.
- 3:55But everybody's gearing up like this is
- 3:59going to shut it all down.
- 4:00And we get snow in Ohio.
- 4:02This is not new.
- 4:05Yeah, no,
- 4:05I think there's probably better ways to
- 4:06spend your Monday rather than getting
- 4:08arrested.
- 4:10Trying to get to a biopsy.
- 4:11Trying to get to a biopsy.
- 4:13I can think of better things you could
- 4:15probably be doing with your time.
- 4:20I have a family member who was upset
- 4:22that they didn't already cancel school on
- 4:24Monday as of last night for –
- 4:31for her child,
- 4:33even though we still have absolutely no,
- 4:35it might be eighty degrees, dude, like,
- 4:38in South Louisiana.
- 4:40Because, you know,
- 4:41weathermen have never been wrong.
- 4:43Yeah, no.
- 4:45Never.
- 4:46Never in history.
- 4:48Never in history.
- 4:48Me and one of my best friends in
- 4:50the entire world, Brian Short,
- 4:51have been saying for the past almost
- 4:53thirty years now that we missed our
- 4:56calling in life and we should have been
- 4:58part of the weather team.
- 5:00Like,
- 5:01cause there's not just a weatherman
- 5:02anymore.
- 5:02They got a whole team now.
- 5:04It's been like some time and you don't
- 5:06have to be right in here where we
- 5:10live.
- 5:11It's the easiest thing in the world to
- 5:12do, especially like during the summertime.
- 5:14Hey,
- 5:14it's going to be hot and it might
- 5:16rain.
- 5:17Yeah.
- 5:17It's going to be hot.
- 5:18It's going to be muggy.
- 5:18It might rain from two to four,
- 5:21something along those lines.
- 5:22And the sun's going to come back out.
- 5:23It's going to be miserable again.
- 5:24And it's going to be same thing tomorrow.
- 5:27Every once in a while we get a
- 5:28hurricane.
- 5:29Thanks.
- 5:30Back to you, Pam.
- 5:32Like, that's it.
- 5:33That's really all.
- 5:35Jay Burch, they're supposed to get ice.
- 5:37Arlene Smith, ready in New England.
- 5:39In New England,
- 5:40you guys are scoffing at this.
- 5:42Like, okay.
- 5:46Cajun's going to party no matter what.
- 5:47A hundred percent.
- 5:50Bro,
- 5:51the VA told people to take the day
- 5:52off today and I couldn't get an MRI.
- 5:55That's terrible.
- 5:58It hasn't even started yet.
- 6:00That's terrible.
- 6:02That's absolutely.
- 6:02That's insane.
- 6:04When I lived in Florida in the panhandle
- 6:06and there'd be a hurricane watch the two
- 6:09places you could not get into where the
- 6:11grocery store and the liquor store.
- 6:14Yeah.
- 6:14And,
- 6:15and probably about the same amount of
- 6:17ratio.
- 6:18Yeah.
- 6:19And they were, I mean,
- 6:20the shelves were empty.
- 6:26Uh,
- 6:26Mark Phillips got some trees in the back.
- 6:28I need to keep an eye on ice.
- 6:29We'll bring them down quick.
- 6:33I got,
- 6:33we got a listener that her and I
- 6:35trade memes on a friend, Jacqueline,
- 6:38she's up in Canada,
- 6:39and she sent me what they're going to,
- 6:45like,
- 6:45what their what their temperature is going
- 6:46to get down to, and it's like negative.
- 6:50And so I went and googled how, like,
- 6:52how cold is that to be for oil
- 6:53to freeze?
- 6:54And it's just right about that
- 6:56temperature, as a matter of fact,
- 6:57somewhere between negative and negative
- 6:59degrees.
- 7:00And I'm like,
- 7:02That's too cold.
- 7:02I was talking to my daughter this morning
- 7:06in,
- 7:06in Montana and they're supposed to get
- 7:08down to negative and she's like, yeah,
- 7:11people have heaters that they put on their
- 7:14engine block to keep the oil liquid.
- 7:17So they, their car starts in the morning.
- 7:20So then lock up Jaybird says block
- 7:24heaters.
- 7:24Yep.
- 7:24Yeah.
- 7:27bananas dude yeah i'm betting you like we
- 7:31will get we will get to monday and
- 7:36it will be half of what they expected
- 7:38oh that's i wouldn't take that back
- 7:40because i know better
- 7:43Every time there's a possible tornado in
- 7:46Ohio,
- 7:47they interrupt all programming on TV.
- 7:51You got the weather team out there like,
- 7:53I see possible rotation and this cloud
- 7:56form over here.
- 7:58And it was the same for hurricanes in
- 8:00Florida.
- 8:03The weather team,
- 8:04I think they have orgasms during this
- 8:06stuff.
- 8:08Oh, a hundred percent.
- 8:09Well,
- 8:09because they have something to do other
- 8:10than stand in front of their blue stream.
- 8:12And, like,
- 8:13try to figure out where their hands need
- 8:14to go.
- 8:16Yeah.
- 8:18Yeah,
- 8:18it's like the whole team gets to be
- 8:19together for a whole night.
- 8:21We get to break into programming.
- 8:23We're the stars of the show.
- 8:25So let's up everything that's possible by,
- 8:28like, five inches of snow.
- 8:30Bye.
- 8:30Because maybe they'll let us stay on a
- 8:33little bit longer.
- 8:35Dude,
- 8:35the radio people are right down here,
- 8:38because I don't watch network television,
- 8:41but I do listen to the terrestrial radio
- 8:43quite a bit,
- 8:44especially in the morning times,
- 8:45and those people are sick with it.
- 8:51It's a winter weather warning.
- 8:52It's a winter weather.
- 8:53Well, yeah, it's wintertime.
- 8:55I would hope it would be a winter
- 8:56weather.
- 8:56It'd be weird if you'd be like,
- 8:57it's going to get to ninety-five tomorrow,
- 8:59and it's January.
- 9:02Jay Birch,
- 9:02we're in an all-electric apartment.
- 9:04I'm more worried about power loss.
- 9:06I am really lucky there.
- 9:07Really lucky because Chase Bank is like
- 9:13stone's throw.
- 9:14So we are on their electric grid and
- 9:17it's all underground.
- 9:20Yeah,
- 9:20I got a friend that lives a stone's
- 9:22throw from the hospital in town.
- 9:26And she's like,
- 9:26every time something happens,
- 9:28she's like one of the first people to
- 9:30get her electricity back because they're
- 9:32wiped out by the hospital and they're on
- 9:33the same grid.
- 9:34Fantastic.
- 9:35But we got gas at the house so
- 9:37I can cook.
- 9:38I can turn it.
- 9:39If the power goes out,
- 9:41I can light the fireplace,
- 9:42keep the house warm.
- 9:43Not a big deal.
- 9:45I'm knocking on wood, but in my
- 9:48Twenty two years of living in this house,
- 9:50we have never lost electricity.
- 9:53I wouldn't say that out loud.
- 9:55I knocked on wood, man.
- 9:56I did the thing.
- 9:58I did the thing.
- 10:00Would not say that.
- 10:03A lot of young people here in Houston
- 10:04can't believe we have cases on for Monday
- 10:08in South Dakota.
- 10:08We get twenty inches and we will see
- 10:10you at work.
- 10:12I was talking to my mom.
- 10:13My mom's like, well,
- 10:14they should just cancel school for Monday
- 10:16and Tuesday.
- 10:18My mom's a lunch lady, right?
- 10:20And I get it.
- 10:21She's eight years old.
- 10:22She does not want to go into work
- 10:23on Monday or Tuesday.
- 10:26But when I was a kid, we never,
- 10:29ever shut down.
- 10:30And I grew up in the Appalachian
- 10:32Mountains.
- 10:33So everything was a hill to get to
- 10:35the next destination.
- 10:38Our buses had chains on the tires to
- 10:41grip.
- 10:43And I had to put on, like, full,
- 10:45like,
- 10:46snowsuits just to go wait for the bus.
- 10:52And, like, nobody cared.
- 10:56Nobody cared about my well-being.
- 10:57No, not at all.
- 11:02Oh, John.
- 11:06Ah, John George.
- 11:07Sorry I'm late.
- 11:07Update,
- 11:08Seventy-Eight and Sunny here in the
- 11:09Villages.
- 11:09DM me if you want to change.
- 11:11Got it.
- 11:15That's good stuff right there.
- 11:17Shut down for snow.
- 11:18Okay.
- 11:19We waited for the bus in cold weather.
- 11:21We never shut down for snow unless it
- 11:23was like feet.
- 11:26Feet.
- 11:27That makes sense though, right?
- 11:29Now, if it was an ice storm,
- 11:31that's a different story.
- 11:32Like we don't mess with ice.
- 11:34That was the only time as a child
- 11:36that we literally got to not go to
- 11:38school.
- 11:40I'll tell you like this.
- 11:41If it does manage to snow,
- 11:43that'll be twice in two years,
- 11:46which I've never seen in forty years on
- 11:48the planet down here.
- 11:51Yeah, obviously.
- 11:55All right.
- 11:56So what's happening this morning?
- 11:59Kind of last minute.
- 12:00If you didn't see Brian Friend was on
- 12:03with Hiller and that video was released
- 12:06maybe an hour ago, maybe.
- 12:09And they're having a conversation about
- 12:12everything that's kind of happened from
- 12:14the point of Brian Friend leaving Savant's
- 12:18podcast,
- 12:20the video of the least friendly man in
- 12:23CrossFit all the way up until today.
- 12:27I'm not through at all.
- 12:28I'm probably eighty percent through.
- 12:32It's like an hour and a half long.
- 12:34Yeah,
- 12:35I listened to it on one and a
- 12:37half speed to get eighty percent in.
- 12:42And I think it's a good I think
- 12:45it's a good video.
- 12:46I think it's good.
- 12:47They they sat down and they discussed all
- 12:50of the stuff that's kind of happened over
- 12:53the years and why Brian is where he's
- 12:55at.
- 12:55And yeah.
- 12:58And even the interaction between Hiller
- 13:00and Brian and Hiller even admits that he's
- 13:02kind of like a goldfish.
- 13:04And just because he has beef with you
- 13:05one day doesn't mean he remembers the beef
- 13:07another day.
- 13:09And so they actually had like a really
- 13:11interesting conversation.
- 13:14And I've never really talked about Brian
- 13:15publicly on this show.
- 13:17And there's a reason for that.
- 13:19And I'm going to say it now and
- 13:21then I'll let Corey say what his thoughts
- 13:23are,
- 13:23because I know he's watched some of it,
- 13:24too.
- 13:27Um, when I,
- 13:30and in I was a fledgling podcaster,
- 13:33I wasn't getting very far and I decided
- 13:36that I was going to write a letter
- 13:37to,
- 13:38or an email to Justin LaFranco at morning
- 13:40chalk up and, uh,
- 13:43see if I could take over their YouTube
- 13:46channel,
- 13:46which had been dormant for like two years.
- 13:52And he accepted that proposal and Kat and
- 13:55I moved over to Morning Chalk Up and
- 13:57we started doing some shows on there.
- 14:01And it was the bottom line.
- 14:02It's what Lauren Khalil eventually took
- 14:03over after we left.
- 14:06And our main guest was Brian Friend.
- 14:12He was on it more than anybody else.
- 14:15And anytime there was a big competition,
- 14:17we had him on to talk about that
- 14:19upcoming event and all the athletes that
- 14:21were there.
- 14:22And Kat and I had a horrible time
- 14:24at Morning Chalk Cup.
- 14:25We were treated like shit.
- 14:27Everybody kind of tried to sabotage what
- 14:32we were doing.
- 14:34Nobody wanted to be our friend.
- 14:35It was an awful experience.
- 14:40Brian was the only one that supported us
- 14:41there.
- 14:44And he was gracious, giving up his time.
- 14:47He would stop what he was doing many
- 14:49times to come on live shots from different
- 14:52events we were at.
- 14:54He was very giving of his time.
- 14:56And so I've always had a hard time
- 14:58reconciling what's happened in the last
- 15:01couple years and everybody and their
- 15:05vitriol towards Brian and what I knew him
- 15:07to be when we worked together at Morning
- 15:10Chalk Up.
- 15:12So I always had a hard time kind
- 15:14of reconciling it.
- 15:15Now I know that as he got more
- 15:17and more popular,
- 15:19like some things had changed and there
- 15:23were some things that happened that,
- 15:28that I did not care for that Brian
- 15:30had done kind of to me and our,
- 15:34in our channel and,
- 15:36I don't know how intentional some of that
- 15:37stuff was.
- 15:39And then there became a time where it
- 15:41became him and Patrick.
- 15:43And everybody kind of knows that Patrick
- 15:45and I have had a little bit of
- 15:46beef lately.
- 15:47And he is always finding ways to correct
- 15:50me in chats, in comment sections, in blah,
- 15:54blah, blah.
- 15:54Right.
- 15:55So I just kind of washed my hands
- 15:56of it all.
- 15:57And I am not engaging any of that
- 15:59stuff anymore.
- 16:02So I'm having a hard time.
- 16:03And so I was really glad to see
- 16:04this video with Hiller and him having a
- 16:07sit down and Hiller not really letting him
- 16:11kind of skate over topics and actually
- 16:13answering the topics.
- 16:15And so I thought it was really good.
- 16:16And for me,
- 16:18it's been a little cathartic just because
- 16:21to hear his answers, to see where he,
- 16:24what his thought process was in different
- 16:26things.
- 16:28Will my relationship with him ever get
- 16:30back to what it was when I was
- 16:31at Morning Chalk Up?
- 16:31I don't know.
- 16:33I don't know if that ever is going
- 16:34to happen again.
- 16:37But that's where I am with it.
- 16:39And I've struggled with it for years.
- 16:43And I do think some of his takes
- 16:46and what he tries to take on is
- 16:51not what I agree with,
- 16:52but he's entitled to those opinions and
- 16:55he's entitled to say what he wants to
- 16:56say.
- 17:00So yeah,
- 17:00I just wanted to kind of say that
- 17:02because I've never really kind of
- 17:04addressed anything about Brian on this
- 17:05show.
- 17:07But that's really the reason why because
- 17:08I've,
- 17:09I had a hidden experience with him that
- 17:11was not bad, that was actually good.
- 17:14And it's really been hard trying to
- 17:17reconcile everything around the space with
- 17:21him in the last few years.
- 17:25Your thoughts?
- 17:27I'm about halfway through.
- 17:28I'm kind of like in line with Mark
- 17:30Phillips.
- 17:30I don't know that I've gotten much new
- 17:32insight out of it.
- 17:34I do think what you said about him
- 17:36doing stuff,
- 17:37not realizing what –
- 17:39maybe the consequences of doing whatever
- 17:41he's doing is, is probably pretty true.
- 17:43Just because of some of the stuff that
- 17:44he says and like he remembers stuff
- 17:47differently than other people does.
- 17:48And you're always going to get, you know,
- 17:50three versions of a story, right?
- 17:52Your side, my side, and what's the truth,
- 17:54which is usually somewhere in between
- 17:56there.
- 17:57So if you know, you know,
- 17:59and like you said,
- 18:02Andrew wasn't letting up.
- 18:03Like he was going to get, you know,
- 18:05some kind of answer out of him,
- 18:07whatever that might be.
- 18:08And then come back and rebuttal and be
- 18:09like, well,
- 18:09that's not how this person said it.
- 18:11You know,
- 18:12that's person usually being about,
- 18:13usually being Savant and Brian sticking to
- 18:16his gun.
- 18:17So good for him.
- 18:20And that he actually gets an opportunity
- 18:22to address all of these things and that
- 18:25the killer is a dog with a car,
- 18:30right?
- 18:31He catches it and he plays with it,
- 18:33does whatever he can.
- 18:34And then three days later,
- 18:35he'll forget that it happened.
- 18:37i think that's very much a true thing
- 18:40so i don't know that i got a
- 18:41whole lot more out of it um at
- 18:43times he definitely seems arrogant to me
- 18:46but lots of people do i'm not real
- 18:49good with the i did this i did
- 18:51that i did this kind of stuff never
- 18:53been
- 18:55settled with people who you know claim
- 18:59other people's success for themselves you
- 19:02know or that they uh contributed to it
- 19:05and then have to talk about it because
- 19:06i feel like if you if i say
- 19:09that oh it's it's you know that i'm
- 19:11the reason why people are watching this
- 19:13show right now that then no it's not
- 19:16like if you have to say it it's
- 19:18not actually a thing that happened
- 19:21Beyond that, like I said,
- 19:22I haven't finished it either because it is
- 19:23an hour and a half long and I've
- 19:26had it on basically since I saw that
- 19:28it was live because I wanted to see
- 19:29what it was.
- 19:30So there's that.
- 19:34Mark Phillips, I'm about halfway.
- 19:35Not sure I've gotten much new insight out
- 19:37of it.
- 19:37Yeah,
- 19:38I don't know if I got more insight
- 19:39other than there were a couple times where
- 19:43Brian said, and even you, Hiller,
- 19:44have seen that like the story that the
- 19:47rumors that were out maybe not were as
- 19:48true
- 19:50as you thought,
- 19:51and Hiller did agree with that.
- 19:55Andrew Sten,
- 19:55I think many things in life are done
- 19:57without realizing the impact it may have
- 19:59on others.
- 20:00I think that happens a whole lot.
- 20:03The last time I spoke to Brian in
- 20:04person was at the twenty four CrossFit
- 20:07Games,
- 20:08and it was like a day after Lazar's
- 20:10death.
- 20:12So that is the last time I had
- 20:13spoken to him public or in person.
- 20:16And and he was broken.
- 20:19Brian was broken that day.
- 20:20There was like,
- 20:25there wasn't really much to talk about
- 20:27because of the,
- 20:28where he was at that moment.
- 20:31And we were all kind of stunned at
- 20:33the very least.
- 20:36So that's the last time I talked to
- 20:37him in person.
- 20:38He did reach out to me about some
- 20:40of my comments on the WFP.
- 20:42I texted him back.
- 20:44He asked for a phone call.
- 20:45I hate talking on the phone.
- 20:48Um,
- 20:48and I actually had some stuff going on
- 20:50that weekend.
- 20:51Uh,
- 20:51so I never did call him back about
- 20:53that.
- 20:54Um,
- 20:55but I wasn't against having a conversation
- 20:57with him.
- 20:58Um, it just was,
- 21:00the timing was really bad at that point.
- 21:04Um, Ken Walters, Corey,
- 21:09how the hell big is your dog?
- 21:10It catches a car and plays with it.
- 21:12It usually like a dog on a bone
- 21:14for my guys.
- 21:16They get big down here, Ken.
- 21:19i have no idea what he's talking about
- 21:21when i said that killer's like a dog
- 21:23they call a car oh gotcha gotcha so
- 21:30it's it seems to be a really good
- 21:32video um it's it's a great video you
- 21:35can speed up a little bit because uh
- 21:38neither one of them talk super fast
- 21:41no so when you even go to like
- 21:43one and a quarter one and a half
- 21:44it doesn't seem too out of the realm
- 21:48of normal my problem with putting a video
- 21:52on one and a half or one and
- 21:54a quarter whatever is that i have to
- 21:56be paying attention because if not
- 22:00like I will get lost and I will
- 22:01be like,
- 22:02what the hell did he just say?
- 22:03Like I have to be all the way
- 22:04in it so I can leave it playing
- 22:06right here and still be doing some work
- 22:07and like have it run in the background
- 22:09where I'm listening to it.
- 22:11I'll probably listen to it two or three
- 22:12times before I actually finish it.
- 22:15Stopping, pausing,
- 22:16catching phone calls on my regular work.
- 22:18Now, if you're listening to Corey,
- 22:19you have to put it on point seven
- 22:21five.
- 22:22Need to slow it down a little bit
- 22:23just to get into the normal range.
- 22:26So when I usually,
- 22:30especially if I get a hold of somebody
- 22:31who's moving to Louisiana from out of
- 22:33state and we're like looking to, you know,
- 22:34get homeowners and get their auto
- 22:37insurance and whatnot,
- 22:38I usually lead off with, look,
- 22:41I talk a lot and fast.
- 22:43So if I'm,
- 22:44you don't be scared to tell me to
- 22:46stop or slow down.
- 22:49I get it.
- 22:49Like,
- 22:49I'm not going to be mad at you
- 22:50for telling, for fussing at me to stop.
- 22:54Ken says you got gators down there.
- 22:58Cowboy.
- 23:01We ride him.
- 23:06So, yeah, we had him in Florida, man.
- 23:10It was wild.
- 23:13Yeah.
- 23:14Yeah,
- 23:14Dez Gate is all over the place down
- 23:15there.
- 23:18Well,
- 23:18let's talk about a couple other things.
- 23:20The other day we brought up the WFP
- 23:22had signed some of their athletes.
- 23:24During that show,
- 23:25there was a revelation that a few more
- 23:30people had signed while we were on the
- 23:32air.
- 23:33It doesn't look like anybody else has been
- 23:35announced, but Emily Rolfe, Jack Farlow,
- 23:38Jennifer Muir, Nate Ackerman,
- 23:39and Pat Vellner have all signed their WFP
- 23:42contracts for the upcoming season.
- 23:47They've also added a Masters partner
- 23:49competition.
- 23:52I wish they would just do one thing.
- 23:55Get one thing down and then start adding
- 23:59other stuff.
- 24:04We have talked about that ad nauseum.
- 24:05I mean, come on.
- 24:08But you're not wrong.
- 24:10I mean,
- 24:11how many teams did they have where the
- 24:14divisions were empty?
- 24:16at tour stops there was that one dude
- 24:19where like yeah there was that one of
- 24:24them that i could have showed up with
- 24:25a team and been on the podium yeah
- 24:30it's just so yeah they're adding a partner
- 24:35uh competition for masters
- 24:41Anyway,
- 24:42so that's who they are signed to contracts
- 24:46at this point.
- 24:48We also have Mayhem,
- 24:50who has had some more confirmation since
- 24:55we last talked.
- 24:56So we have Haley Adams, Mano Anganese.
- 25:01We have Saxon Pancheck, Nick Matthew,
- 25:04Abigail Domet, Claudia Gluck,
- 25:07and Paige Rogers.
- 25:11Even with all the declines,
- 25:13the lineup for this event is pretty damn
- 25:15good.
- 25:16Still pretty stacked.
- 25:17No.
- 25:19I mean,
- 25:19we can still do what we want,
- 25:20but it's going to be a fun competition
- 25:23to watch.
- 25:24I'm curious to watch Saxon.
- 25:28Yeah.
- 25:30He's got a lot to prove, right?
- 25:32Yeah.
- 25:32I saw a video of him training with
- 25:35Scott.
- 25:36I wonder if he's back up in Cleveland
- 25:38because I heard he was moving.
- 25:39Oh, yeah.
- 25:42might be.
- 25:43I need to reach out to him.
- 25:45You reckon he's hunkering down right now?
- 25:49So this storm is supposed to be more
- 25:52brutal south than north.
- 25:55Which is very opposite of what we usually
- 25:57get because we have Lake Effect and Polar
- 25:59Vortex and Alberta Clippers here in Ohio
- 26:02that are all coming from the north
- 26:04generally.
- 26:05And this is coming from the south.
- 26:06So Cleveland's actually got less
- 26:10anticipated snowfall than we do in
- 26:12Columbus.
- 26:14They're talking about,
- 26:15I got a friend of mine doing TFX
- 26:17and like he said a thing this morning
- 26:18showing like the long-term forecast or
- 26:20whatnot,
- 26:21possible snow next weekend at TFX.
- 26:25And I'm like, again,
- 26:28it's kind of a long way out to
- 26:30be worried about that kind of nonsense
- 26:31right now.
- 26:33Jenny says, I live with a Cajun.
- 26:34I understand Corey just fine.
- 26:36Yeah.
- 26:42Yeah, TFX,
- 26:43we're going to have Joe Valens will be
- 26:48shooting for us there.
- 26:50Cool.
- 26:51So we'll have some content coming in from
- 26:53TFX next week.
- 26:55Uh, super, super stoked about that.
- 26:57I did.
- 26:58Did you see the announcement they're
- 26:59bringing in Don fall, uh,
- 27:01and to do some stuff, uh,
- 27:03with the affiliates at TFX next week.
- 27:06I think that's a,
- 27:07that's a cool thing to do while you
- 27:09have a big competition.
- 27:11So, uh,
- 27:17Jay Birch on the tens.
- 27:20Not supposed to snow at TFX next week.
- 27:25Jay Birch with weather on the tens.
- 27:31I love it.
- 27:31Last time I was at TFX,
- 27:32it was the freaking wind, man.
- 27:36They gave us a canopy to do interviews
- 27:40under.
- 27:41And the wind,
- 27:42we had to anchor it down with cinder
- 27:44blocks because the wind was going to take
- 27:46it.
- 27:49it was so that's my biggest problem with
- 27:53that's why i have not i got a
- 27:55brand new pair of running shoes that i
- 27:56have not run in yet because the days
- 27:59when i would normally go it's been in
- 28:02the like mid high thirties in the morning
- 28:04which is not necessarily a big deal but
- 28:06it's also been twenty five mile an hour
- 28:08winds and i'm like i'm not running in
- 28:09that i'm just not
- 28:13I will run when I get an opportunity
- 28:15to,
- 28:15but I am not running outside when it's
- 28:17anywhere in the thirties and windy at the
- 28:20same time.
- 28:20The last time I did that,
- 28:21my hands went numb.
- 28:23I was supposed to be out for like
- 28:24an hour and a half and I came
- 28:25back in forty five minutes later.
- 28:27No, thanks.
- 28:30Yeah.
- 28:32You know,
- 28:32it helps us all that getting a good
- 28:33night's sleep.
- 28:35Oh, that's what I hate.
- 28:37You know how you get a good night's
- 28:38sleep.
- 28:38You take some thirdsy.
- 28:40And it's going to be a snowy weekend,
- 28:42right?
- 28:42You're already bunkered in.
- 28:44Might as well sleep in and get that
- 28:47thirdsie in your system,
- 28:48get a good night's sleep, get some REM.
- 28:52If I was to take some thirdsies, Scott,
- 28:54is there some sort of code I should
- 28:55put in when I buy it,
- 28:58maybe at checkout?
- 29:00Just use that code Jazzy.
- 29:05Yeah,
- 29:05thirdsy.com backslash Jazzy or use Jazzy
- 29:09as a promo code to check out and
- 29:10you get fifteen percent off your order.
- 29:12You get a good night's sleep on those
- 29:14snowy days.
- 29:14I'm about to have to order some more.
- 29:17I'm almost out of my second bag.
- 29:20Alito.
- 29:20Hello,
- 29:20both was just listening to the new Hiller
- 29:22Brian episode with the popcorn.
- 29:23Yeah, we talked about that already.
- 29:26Phil DePuper, unrelated topic.
- 29:28Any suggestions for getting the general
- 29:29population of my gym to sign up for
- 29:31the open?
- 29:32Roughly three hundred members,
- 29:33only nineteen signed up.
- 29:34I'm really frustrated.
- 29:37My first question would be you as.
- 29:42Are you the gym owner or just a
- 29:44member?
- 29:45How much is how much promotion is being
- 29:47done about the open by your gym?
- 29:51Second thing I would say is I think
- 29:54Sivan has done an excellent job having
- 29:56affiliate owners on who are successful in
- 29:59getting people to sign up for the open
- 30:01and they have been sharing all the things
- 30:02they do in their gym to get people
- 30:04to sign up.
- 30:06And so I think there are some great
- 30:07tips and tricks that you can learn just
- 30:10by listening to those people who do it
- 30:13successfully.
- 30:18I am going to get myself probably,
- 30:20you know,
- 30:21I'm going to get with some of the
- 30:22other coaches too and see, you know,
- 30:23who's got twenty bucks to throw up to
- 30:25try to get some free members,
- 30:27get some free signups available for the
- 30:32end.
- 30:32Specifically for people like, oh,
- 30:33I spent twenty bucks.
- 30:34Hey, you don't have to.
- 30:35Look at this.
- 30:36I got a free signup.
- 30:38Go on and sign up.
- 30:38Yep.
- 30:45Ken Walters,
- 30:46everyone is having a good night's sleep on
- 30:47Thursday.
- 30:48I haven't had any success falling asleep
- 30:51any faster, but love the flavor.
- 30:55So it took me a couple nights, Ken.
- 30:56And then it's not about faster for me.
- 30:59It's about deeper.
- 31:00Yeah.
- 31:03That's really what I'm experiencing.
- 31:06That's what she said.
- 31:07Exactly.
- 31:10I will say this.
- 31:12I think I figured it out.
- 31:14And I'll hit you up, Ortega.
- 31:16Thank you.
- 31:18I will say this.
- 31:21I don't say I figured it out,
- 31:22but I take mine.
- 31:24I usually go sit on the couch sometime
- 31:27before or after I put Jameis in the
- 31:29bed.
- 31:30And as soon as I start feeling like
- 31:34actually drowsy, get up, go to bed.
- 31:38And like,
- 31:39by the time my head hits the pillow
- 31:41and I got a sleep number bed,
- 31:42so like we call it the magic bed.
- 31:44So like you get some,
- 31:44and all of a sudden it kind of
- 31:46does it's whatever adjustment that it
- 31:48needs to do.
- 31:49And I'll wake up and it's morning time.
- 31:51Like there's no,
- 31:52there's not a whole lot of, oh,
- 31:54let me,
- 31:54let me twist back and forth and move
- 31:56back around.
- 31:58Done.
- 31:59Like it's ridiculous.
- 32:02Uh, not faster, but deeper.
- 32:03Yeah.
- 32:04That's now going to be on my tombstone.
- 32:06I'm sure.
- 32:07Um, uh, Phil the pooper, a member,
- 32:10although I think I own the place owner
- 32:11is doing a decent job promoting just not
- 32:13much interest.
- 32:15Yeah.
- 32:15I,
- 32:15there's a lot of us that are members,
- 32:17but think we own the joint.
- 32:19Um, I think that is,
- 32:20that is part of being a CrossFitter.
- 32:23Once you have that attitude,
- 32:24you automatically get to say I'm a
- 32:26CrossFitter.
- 32:29Lito,
- 32:30we just spam them on every single class.
- 32:32Lots of new members already signed up,
- 32:34which is great to see.
- 32:35Gym owner also programs a past open
- 32:37workout every week,
- 32:39which gives us a chance to talk about
- 32:40it.
- 32:42Yeah,
- 32:42we've been doing a lot of that too.
- 32:44Doing an open workout every week for the
- 32:47past three weeks for sure.
- 32:52And
- 32:55don't coach a lot of evening classes but
- 32:56when i do i try to let everybody
- 32:58know hey the open is upon us sign
- 33:01up sign up sign up sign up like
- 33:04it's well worth it it's going to be
- 33:06fun you get to test yourself see where
- 33:08you are compare yourself last year like
- 33:10you know you bring up all the things
- 33:11um and i'm hoping that everybody else is
- 33:15doing the same things the guys who are
- 33:16coaching the evening classes because our
- 33:18morning classes are those guys have been
- 33:20there forever and a day and they're
- 33:22probably not signing up and that's fine
- 33:24but the evening class is where the where
- 33:26it's at like the and even i say
- 33:28even even the later morning noon and in
- 33:31the afternoon classes where the majority
- 33:32of our people come and really get those
- 33:34people involved our morning classes were
- 33:36probably the biggest participation
- 33:39not us those guys came in friday morning
- 33:41knocked it out first thing before work and
- 33:44then they were not us i mean they're
- 33:46going to be doing it whether they want
- 33:48to or not so there's that but to
- 33:51get him to actually sign up it's like
- 33:53pulling teeth um you know what's going to
- 33:57be on larry young's tombstone freaking
- 34:00cardio open let me get larry to run
- 34:03a five k see how that works out
- 34:04for him yeah
- 34:07sign him up for a month for a
- 34:09year.
- 34:12Yeah.
- 34:12Or,
- 34:13or even just to run a mile for
- 34:14a day,
- 34:16run them off a day for it.
- 34:20It'll change outlook.
- 34:21Like, cause it, after about half, twelve,
- 34:24thirteen days in, you're like,
- 34:25it's just part of your day.
- 34:26I'm just gonna go take my ten minutes
- 34:29or so, whatever it takes me,
- 34:30or go run my mile, come back,
- 34:32call it good.
- 34:34So, I'm glad we're talking about the Open,
- 34:36cause the last thing I wanted to talk
- 34:37about was,
- 34:39what is your favorite Open workout ever?
- 34:42And what is your least favorite Open
- 34:44workout ever?
- 34:45Oh, man.
- 34:49So I'll go first to give you some
- 34:50time.
- 34:50Yeah.
- 34:52So my favorite open workout ever was
- 34:55fourteen point three.
- 34:59Fourteen point three was alternating
- 35:01deadlifts and box jumps
- 35:05And the deadlift increased.
- 35:07It started at one thirty five for ten,
- 35:09one eighty five for fifteen,
- 35:11two twenty five for twenty,
- 35:13two seventy five for twenty five and three
- 35:16fifteen for thirty.
- 35:17And then I think it went to three
- 35:18sixty five after that.
- 35:20It was an eight minute AMRAP.
- 35:23It was the most fun I've ever had
- 35:25in a workout.
- 35:25And it's the one open workout I felt
- 35:27like I was in the zone.
- 35:30And I had never hit a three-fifteen
- 35:32deadlift because of my back.
- 35:34And I got to that part and I
- 35:38nailed like twelve in a row.
- 35:43It was my favorite.
- 35:44And like the entire gym like converged on
- 35:48me when I was done with the workout
- 35:50and like smothered me like a pitcher at
- 35:52the end of like a playoff game.
- 35:55Dogpile.
- 35:58Dog pile.
- 35:59Oh man.
- 36:00So my favorite,
- 36:05my favorite is going to be anything that's
- 36:06got a gymnastics and a barbell more than
- 36:09likely,
- 36:10or so I just had to go look
- 36:13it up.
- 36:16And I haven't done it since then,
- 36:19but like,
- 36:19twenty point five was forty muscle ups,
- 36:21eighty calorie row,
- 36:23one hundred twenty wall balls,
- 36:24break it up however you want.
- 36:26So I did the eighty calorie row and
- 36:31one hundred twenty wall balls and ten
- 36:33rounds just real quick running through it,
- 36:35you know, ten and twelve at a time.
- 36:37And I spent the next however much,
- 36:39however long I spent trying to get a
- 36:40muscle up.
- 36:42And in twenty twenty,
- 36:43I just I didn't have them yet.
- 36:46Um, or just couldn't,
- 36:47couldn't get over the rings.
- 36:48I was so close.
- 36:49That one was pretty cool.
- 36:51But the one that was probably the next
- 36:54year, was it?
- 36:55Was it?
- 36:55It was a repeat.
- 36:58That is the giant chipper.
- 36:59So it was like a sixty Cal row,
- 37:02fifty total bar, forty wall balls,
- 37:05thirty cleans,
- 37:06and then ten ring muscle ups.
- 37:07I've done that one four times.
- 37:10That's probably my, my actual,
- 37:12aside from this one that I want to
- 37:13do, I would love to do again.
- 37:17was, that was fun.
- 37:20That was super fun.
- 37:21Cause like trying to get through
- 37:22everything and then get to the rings to
- 37:23try to get as many of them as
- 37:24you can before time runs out.
- 37:26And the fact that that's an AMRAP is
- 37:28amazing.
- 37:32Lito's least favorite is any open workout
- 37:34with a deadlift in it.
- 37:36Jay Birch says max burpees for time.
- 37:38Is that your favorite or least favorite
- 37:40dude?
- 37:40Cause everything is least.
- 37:44I train all of least favorite deadlifts
- 37:45and bar facing burpees, ten to one,
- 37:47one to ten, and thruster row.
- 37:50The deadlift burpee one,
- 37:52that's the one Sam Briggs yelled at me
- 37:54on.
- 37:56The thruster row,
- 37:58Brandon actually programmed for us this
- 38:00week.
- 38:00That was Wednesday, our Wednesday workout.
- 38:03Mark Phillips,
- 38:04I like twenty three point two.
- 38:05Yes, I'm weird.
- 38:08Phil Cooper, nineteen point one favorite.
- 38:10All the rest are least favorites.
- 38:13Oh, fifteen.
- 38:14Nineteen point one was wall balls and
- 38:17rowing.
- 38:18Nineteen and nineteen.
- 38:20That was my first ever.
- 38:22That was miserable.
- 38:24Larry Young,
- 38:24the Dan Bailey in the garage one is
- 38:26one of the best programmed,
- 38:27even though I don't have dubs.
- 38:30Lido favorite chest of bars and thrusters,
- 38:32whichever one that was.
- 38:39And burpees for time was his least
- 38:41favorite.
- 38:44Jay Birch liked the thruster row.
- 38:48Sixteen point two.
- 38:49I think a lot of these two toes
- 38:51to bar dubs and late cleans.
- 38:54And then Mark Phillips,
- 38:55twenty three point two,
- 38:56five burpee pull ups, ten shutter runs,
- 38:59five burpee pull ups each round.
- 39:03Yeah,
- 39:03I thought that's what he was talking
- 39:04about.
- 39:05That was my least favorite was a thruster
- 39:09row.
- 39:09No, twenty seven, twenty one,
- 39:12fifteen nine.
- 39:12Yeah.
- 39:14Yeah.
- 39:15There was a moment where I got off
- 39:16the rower and I went and I got
- 39:18my blender bottle to get a drink and
- 39:21seriously contemplated just walking out
- 39:23the door and not finishing the workout.
- 39:27One of my very, very good friends,
- 39:31her and her husband moved away a couple
- 39:33of years ago from our gym.
- 39:36We had that programmed for the AGOQ a
- 39:39couple years ago.
- 39:40It was the first time I ever did
- 39:42it.
- 39:43When it came up, Benoit was telling me,
- 39:45he said, Taylor cried after this workout.
- 39:50That's how bad it is.
- 39:51I was like, thanks.
- 39:52That's encouraging.
- 39:54That's super awesome.
- 39:55I really want to know if somebody cried
- 39:58after they got done with it.
- 40:01That was not a bad one for me.
- 40:02Even though I'm not a great ruler,
- 40:03I am
- 40:04pretty doing decent at thrusters.
- 40:10For some reason,
- 40:10my core was just done mid-workout.
- 40:15I probably went out too hard on the
- 40:17row to start because I'm a really good
- 40:19rower and the thrusters are probably where
- 40:21I struggled.
- 40:23When I hit,
- 40:24I think it was the fifteen on the
- 40:25row, I just wanted to vomit.
- 40:29And so,
- 40:30and I think what made it even worse
- 40:31is my fourteen-year-old daughter,
- 40:33her first ever open,
- 40:35did that workout RX and kicked the shit
- 40:38out of me.
- 40:40At fourteen.
- 40:42She smoked me so bad.
- 40:45I think she went unbroken on the thrusters
- 40:47the entire way.
- 40:48She was so strong as a little girl.
- 40:50Let's see.
- 40:55Least favorite.
- 40:55Oh, man.
- 40:56Least favorite.
- 41:02What did I say I was not going
- 41:03to do again?
- 41:04Now, fourteen five and in the repeat,
- 41:07sixteen five are right real close to that
- 41:10fifteen five.
- 41:11And that was the.
- 41:14That was the burpee thruster.
- 41:18And I think it was it was stupid,
- 41:20like twenty one, eighteen, fifteen,
- 41:23twelve.
- 41:25Nine.
- 41:28I would say.
- 41:31it was a redo i don't remember if
- 41:34it was in nineteen or if it was
- 41:36in twenty but the dumbbell snatch burpee
- 41:39box jump over and it was like an
- 41:44ascending anything with an ascending rep
- 41:46scheme can get bent like i am not
- 41:49i am not a big fan at all
- 41:52um and brandon program was something today
- 41:53that went down and then rest five minutes
- 41:56and it went back up
- 42:00It's not fun.
- 42:01Um, but I remember specifically saying,
- 42:04if I never do this one again,
- 42:06I think I'll be okay.
- 42:10And I'm like,
- 42:11I'm really good on a dumbbell,
- 42:12but that fricking them burpee box jobs,
- 42:14dude, just, it, it smoked me.
- 42:16Absolutely killed me.
- 42:19Uh,
- 42:19Lito S does my daughter do CrossFit now?
- 42:22Um, uh,
- 42:24She's actually kind of leaking back into
- 42:27it.
- 42:28When she was in high school,
- 42:29she was really like against everything
- 42:32CrossFit because I loved it so much,
- 42:34right?
- 42:36And she had been CrossFitting from like...
- 42:40...twelve, maybe twelve to sixteen.
- 42:46And she was outlifting women in our gym
- 42:51at like fifteen years old.
- 42:53She just was so, so strong.
- 42:56And she had a decent engine if she
- 43:00didn't let her mind get to her.
- 43:02And then she kind of like went away
- 43:04from it for a little bit.
- 43:05And now that she's out in Montana on
- 43:08her own and she's looking for some gym
- 43:09time,
- 43:10she's actually kind of like dipping her
- 43:13toe back in the CrossFit water.
- 43:15Let's go, Corey.
- 43:16Let's go.
- 43:16Yeah.
- 43:17Let's see it.
- 43:18Let's see it.
- 43:18So, yeah.
- 43:24Andrew said and redone once or twice.
- 43:26I think that's seventeen point one.
- 43:28You know, in fifteen,
- 43:30I think it was maybe it was fourteen.
- 43:32I redid a couple workouts and I just
- 43:35learned that like I am.
- 43:40I am not good at reduce like once
- 43:42I know what the pain is like,
- 43:45I am not good at like diving into
- 43:48it again.
- 43:50And.
- 43:51I just stopped doing redos.
- 43:53I just stopped.
- 43:54Cause I would do it and get like
- 43:56three reps better.
- 43:57And I'd be like,
- 43:58I did all that for, for that.
- 44:00And the other thing was like,
- 44:01it was killing my like regular training to
- 44:04be healthy.
- 44:06Right.
- 44:07Cause I let the open workout take up
- 44:09three or four days and,
- 44:12And then you get back and you do
- 44:13one or two workouts and then you're back
- 44:14to another open that takes up three or
- 44:16four days.
- 44:18And so I just stopped.
- 44:19I just stopped doing redos and just let's
- 44:23one and done it and get back to,
- 44:24because I'm not going to the games, right?
- 44:28Like for you,
- 44:29you're trying to qualify for something
- 44:31that makes sense to redo.
- 44:33For me,
- 44:34this is just my test once a year
- 44:36to see where I'm at and then get
- 44:38back to regular training to stay fit.
- 44:42I just had an epiphany,
- 44:45one I just remembered.
- 44:48It was a .
- 44:48five.
- 44:50So maybe twenty point five with the chest
- 44:54of bars.
- 44:56It was like a billion chest of bars.
- 44:58People were doing singles the entire time.
- 45:01God dog it.
- 45:02Is that twenty point five?
- 45:03I got to go look now.
- 45:07No, that's not twenty point five.
- 45:09So maybe it was nineteen point five.
- 45:15Train all of ten, twenty, thirty, forty,
- 45:17fifty dumbbell snatch and box jump overs.
- 45:19Gross.
- 45:20That one was awful, too.
- 45:22Yeah.
- 45:22Nineteen point five.
- 45:24Thirty three.
- 45:24Twenty seven.
- 45:25Twenty one.
- 45:26Fifteen nine thrusters and chest of all
- 45:28pull ups.
- 45:29Twenty minute time cap.
- 45:33I remember that one clearly and just like
- 45:38trying to slog through this every single
- 45:43rep.
- 45:44And I remember watching videos and people
- 45:45talking about, yeah,
- 45:46we just do the chest to bars and
- 45:47singles like you'd be better off because
- 45:49you have to get to the bar and
- 45:50do your thrusters.
- 45:53That one was rough.
- 45:54I would actually like I wouldn't probably
- 45:55wouldn't mind doing that one again,
- 45:56but I just remember it being miserable at
- 45:58the time.
- 46:01One and done,
- 46:01ninety-nine percent of the time,
- 46:02super rare.
- 46:03I'll do a redo.
- 46:05Ken Walters,
- 46:05you become acutely aware real fast after
- 46:07the first try.
- 46:09Yeah, you do.
- 46:10Train Olive,
- 46:11I only redid Burpee's pull-up shuttle run,
- 46:13and it was like four extra reps just
- 46:15made me more mad.
- 46:16Exactly.
- 46:19Lito,
- 46:19I think more people might be tempted to
- 46:21redo this year that the barrier to
- 46:23quarterfinals is twenty-five percent.
- 46:25see if I was see I'm not in
- 46:27that I'm in like the twentieth percentile
- 46:29I got a long way to go to
- 46:31quarterfinals where I'm at currently now
- 46:34once I get this shit fixed next week
- 46:36we're coming and that'll be like twenty
- 46:39twenty seven let's go um
- 46:44But I do think she's right.
- 46:45I think for people whose goal is to
- 46:47make that top twenty five percent and
- 46:49you're right on that border.
- 46:52I thought one of the coolest things is
- 46:53when Castro tried to make the age group
- 46:56quarters.
- 46:58And he was talking about doing a redo
- 47:00to make sure he got into that top
- 47:02twenty five percent because he was right
- 47:04on that cut line.
- 47:06And I thought that was like the first
- 47:09time I was like, Dave, yes,
- 47:11that's what you need to share.
- 47:13That's the shit that's awesome.
- 47:16That you're going through the same stuff
- 47:17we are and you're trying to make that
- 47:19twenty five percent cut.
- 47:21And then the fact that he got rid
- 47:23of that the next year after he himself
- 47:25fell into that trap of trying to make
- 47:28it.
- 47:30Why the insanity of getting rid of that
- 47:33level of the of the season?
- 47:37It just made less and less sense.
- 47:39Yeah.
- 47:44Mark Phillips, I had flu during that one,
- 47:46Corey.
- 47:46What a great time.
- 47:47Oh, my gosh.
- 47:50The only bad thing about the open,
- 47:51it is during cold and flu season.
- 47:53Like I have been where my buddies are
- 47:56like hacking up a lung in the middle
- 47:58of an open workout because they're trying
- 47:59to get through cold and flu season.
- 48:02We are so not used to like actual
- 48:06cold weather down here that when it
- 48:07happens to pass through and there's cold,
- 48:09dry air in the air,
- 48:11when the air is dry around here and
- 48:12cold and it's an open workout or something
- 48:15like that, do like people are just,
- 48:17it's like for hours,
- 48:22like during the entire time laying on the
- 48:24ground, trying to catch their breath,
- 48:25just beating themselves to shit.
- 48:27It's fantastic.
- 48:30uh david reed the open should be renamed
- 48:33how unfit am i dude you're a glass
- 48:37half empty guy aren't you yes i i
- 48:41need to like i was so my son
- 48:44just started back doing crossfit right a
- 48:47couple months ago want to get back in
- 48:48the gym cool awesome so i asked him
- 48:50the other day it's like he signed up
- 48:51for the open he's like i'm not ready
- 48:52to sign up for the open i'm like
- 48:54yes you are
- 48:56That's a ridiculous argument.
- 48:57Well,
- 48:57I've only been back a couple of days.
- 48:59That's a perfect time to sign up for
- 49:00the open because now you have a benchmark.
- 49:04You're setting a benchmark.
- 49:05Hey, this is where I'm at this year.
- 49:08I just started back.
- 49:09It doesn't matter because I just started
- 49:11back.
- 49:12Sign up.
- 49:13I'm going to do these workouts and I'm
- 49:14going to have this entire year to work
- 49:16on myself,
- 49:17get fitter and see where I land next
- 49:19year.
- 49:20I hate that argument so much, dude.
- 49:23Oh, my word.
- 49:24David Reed adds,
- 49:25my superpower is sandbagging.
- 49:31Lito, exactly.
- 49:32Statistically,
- 49:33there are just more people around that
- 49:35seventy-fifth percentile line.
- 49:40Yeah, it's a lot.
- 49:41It's a huge goal.
- 49:42By taking that away last year,
- 49:44it took a goal away from fifteen percent
- 49:48of the people that signed up.
- 49:50It was a lot, dude.
- 49:53It was a lot.
- 49:56Mary says,
- 49:57I've never even finished all the workouts,
- 49:58but that twenty five percent is my goal.
- 50:04My support system looked at me and said,
- 50:06there's no chance.
- 50:11I believe in you, Larry.
- 50:12I believe in you.
- 50:14We believe in you, Larry.
- 50:16We believe in you.
- 50:18I will be your official support system
- 50:19through this entire thing.
- 50:21DM me.
- 50:22We will trade phone numbers and I will
- 50:23keep your ass on in line there in
- 50:25the entire open.
- 50:26I have no problem doing that whatsoever.
- 50:28You can make top twenty five.
- 50:30I've seen you muscle through gymnastics.
- 50:32It's absolutely insane.
- 50:33And you're probably the strongest person
- 50:35in your age group.
- 50:36Yes.
- 50:37Sign up.
- 50:38Go through it.
- 50:38Finish them all.
- 50:39Finish twenty five and we'll do
- 50:41quarterfinals.
- 50:43That'll be awesome.
- 50:44That'll be awesome.
- 50:45Larry getting this twenty five percent.
- 50:47That'll be awesome.
- 50:48Hell yeah.
- 50:49I'm going to be watching the leaderboard.
- 50:50Should do.
- 50:54Oh, speaking of leaderboard,
- 50:56before you before you get on that,
- 50:58do we still have our Clydesdale hashtag?
- 51:02Do we need to make a new one?
- 51:04Hashtag Clydesdale.
- 51:06Hashtag Clydesdale.
- 51:08Yeah,
- 51:08the girls looked it up when we were
- 51:10live on Sunday night.
- 51:12It's still out there.
- 51:14I need to get caught up on that
- 51:15show.
- 51:15Good.
- 51:17Every year I pray we don't have thrusters.
- 51:19Never comes true.
- 51:21When I saw thirty three, twenty seven,
- 51:23twenty one, eighteen, I was like, F me.
- 51:25I did it twice.
- 51:29Not just once.
- 51:31F me twice.
- 51:33I mean,
- 51:33I admire John's prayer support system.
- 51:37Like maybe we won't have thrusters this
- 51:39year.
- 51:39We're going to have thrusters this year.
- 51:41That's just the thing.
- 51:43We're going to have thrusters.
- 51:44You're going to have thrusters.
- 51:44You're going to have some sort of pull-up.
- 51:46There's two things you can count on.
- 51:49I saw Jenny post an open workout with
- 51:51the dumbbell thruster.
- 51:55I don't want to see that one again.
- 51:57I'll go barbell all day long.
- 51:59All day long.
- 52:01dumbbell thruster dude I walk out of there
- 52:04concussed because my front rack mobility
- 52:07is not the most awesome thing in the
- 52:09world and like those dumbbells would just
- 52:12hit me in the head like over and
- 52:14over and over again that's when it was
- 52:19four six twenty four or six four twenty
- 52:22four it was four six twenty four right
- 52:27yeah
- 52:30Yeah, exactly, Jenny.
- 52:31It's only four.
- 52:33It doesn't mean I'm any less concussed.
- 52:36No, like that's how I thought about it.
- 52:38I was like,
- 52:38it's only four at a time.
- 52:39Like, who cares?
- 52:41I couldn't get my heart rate down for
- 52:42an hour and a half afterwards.
- 52:43I went and got an ECG and a
- 52:46freaking stress test the next day because
- 52:48I was worried like I had did something
- 52:49wrong.
- 52:50I'm not exaggerating.
- 52:51That happened.
- 52:52I had a little monitor that would glue
- 52:54to your chest.
- 52:54I had that on there for a week
- 52:55during an open because of that.
- 52:57I had to do that one twice because
- 52:59I had to stop on the first time.
- 53:02And I looked at Jeff and I said,
- 53:04something's wrong.
- 53:06because my heart was just, yeah.
- 53:10Jenny said the Toaster Bar and Dubs are
- 53:12my jam.
- 53:13I actually did really well on that workout
- 53:15on those two pieces,
- 53:16but every time I had to pick up
- 53:18those dumbbells, I wanted,
- 53:22I just wanted to be done.
- 53:23And it was only four.
- 53:24I think if it was any more than
- 53:26four, I would have quit.
- 53:28Four was just like that number, like,
- 53:30okay,
- 53:30you can pick this up and go get
- 53:32through four more.
- 53:34But I did that with Charlie.
- 53:36And if you're an old-time listener,
- 53:38Charlie, it used to be good.
- 53:40Charlie and I, like,
- 53:41we were both banging our heads so bad
- 53:43with those dumbbells.
- 53:46And we were going rep for rep.
- 53:48Oh, man.
- 53:48It's crazy.
- 53:52Love me some Charlie.
- 53:53Shout out to Charlie.
- 53:57I like four.
- 53:59Thank God it was four,
- 54:00because if it was any more than four,
- 54:01I would have been doomed.
- 54:05Alito wants that to be repeated.
- 54:11At Southern Camp, not the last year,
- 54:15but the year before that,
- 54:16we redid that one,
- 54:18but with a barbell instead of dumbbell.
- 54:21It was fun.
- 54:23If it was a barbell, man,
- 54:24I would smoke that workout.
- 54:26It might be healthy.
- 54:29Brandon programmed it with a barbell for
- 54:31us at Southern Camp, and it was...
- 54:34was fun it was still devastating like it
- 54:36was rough but it was fun um jody
- 54:44pipes in good news is i have lots
- 54:45of customers here bad news is i missed
- 54:47the majority of this
- 54:49See, upstate, like she's Connecticut,
- 54:53right?
- 54:53I think Connecticut.
- 54:54I think so.
- 54:55So she's up above New York even.
- 54:58And they're not sweating the storm.
- 55:00The customers are flying in to get some
- 55:02cabinets this weekend.
- 55:03Yeah.
- 55:08And getting measured up.
- 55:09I love it.
- 55:09Lito and the Toast-A-Bar double under
- 55:11Ascending Cleans.
- 55:13That's money.
- 55:14Bring that one back.
- 55:15I want to do that one again.
- 55:18Bring that one back.
- 55:19Please bring that one.
- 55:20That that's money for me.
- 55:23Uh,
- 55:23Larry says the problem is I I'm like,
- 55:25okay,
- 55:25what do I need to get before the
- 55:26open dubs thrusters wall walks?
- 55:30I need a lot of shit,
- 55:32but I signed up.
- 55:34Let's go.
- 55:38Yeah.
- 55:40can't wait dude I'm hoping that like with
- 55:43the treatment for this sarcoidosis I'm
- 55:45able to do the open um but I'm
- 55:48signing up regardless um uh Jonathan uh
- 55:56breaking news be aware of exploding trees
- 55:58in the extreme cold I think it's I
- 56:02think it's I think it's not going to
- 56:04be like what they say it is
- 56:08if it gets cold enough to start exploding
- 56:10trees we got it we got issues we
- 56:13had a nice storm on christmas here gosh
- 56:17it's been forever ago my daughter was tiny
- 56:19um and trees exploded the way the ice
- 56:23on the tree made the trunk explode the
- 56:26dude uh
- 56:29One of our coaches was coaching this
- 56:31morning, works for Energy,
- 56:33which is the major power company around
- 56:34here.
- 56:35They're on call this weekend.
- 56:37And he said one of the things they're
- 56:38going to do to try to keep the
- 56:39ice off the lines is pump up the
- 56:41power that's running to them so that they
- 56:42stay hot in that ice.
- 56:45Because the problem down here for us big
- 56:49time is that
- 56:51that's how they'll end up snapping ice.
- 56:53Cause they were not used to it.
- 56:54Right.
- 56:54So I don't know if it's a different
- 56:55cable, whatever it is, but,
- 56:58and then they'll end up snapping.
- 56:59So he said, that's what,
- 57:02that seems a little risky itself.
- 57:05He said, that's what their plan is.
- 57:06I was like, oh, okay.
- 57:09Tim Allen back in the day,
- 57:11just need more power.
- 57:13More power, baby.
- 57:14More power.
- 57:14We had to try to keep them heated
- 57:17so that the ice doesn't stick to them,
- 57:20doesn't accumulate, and we're good to go.
- 57:23Which, again,
- 57:25looking at the forecast I just looked at,
- 57:28if we get snow,
- 57:31it's not even – I don't see it
- 57:33happening.
- 57:33I just don't.
- 57:35Even if trees explode,
- 57:36I'll have people looking for cabinets.
- 57:40That's a good thing, Jody.
- 57:42Jody must have some pretty damn good
- 57:44cabinets.
- 57:44I mean, it's apparently so.
- 57:47If people are driving through exploding
- 57:50trees and twenty-five inches of snow just
- 57:53to get her cabinets, man.
- 57:56That's what she said.
- 58:01It's a modern colloquialism now.
- 58:05Kids are referring to that as cabinets.
- 58:11Damn.
- 58:12That needs to be her advertising.
- 58:16How good are our cabinets?
- 58:18I'm willing to drive through an exploding
- 58:20tree.
- 58:24We're saying you're only selling cabinets.
- 58:27What is in those cabinets?
- 58:30That's right.
- 58:31What is in those cabinets?
- 58:32Cabinets.
- 58:34All right, guys.
- 58:35This has been a fun show.
- 58:38Everybody bundle up out there.
- 58:39But before you do,
- 58:40make sure you like and subscribe to the
- 58:42channel.
- 58:45Hit that notifier.
- 58:46So you know when we're on,
- 58:48even though we're here every day at the
- 58:50same time.
- 58:52We'll be here Sunday night for Sunday
- 58:54Night CrossFit Talk.
- 58:55Next week is a shit show for the
- 58:58schedule.
- 59:02Most likely there will not be a Monday
- 59:04show unless my biopsy gets rescheduled
- 59:10because of a level three snow emergency.
- 59:14Just like how you said,
- 59:17it's a level three snow emergency.
- 59:19Like it sounds ridiculous.
- 59:21I know it's an actual thing, but.
- 59:24Level one is just like, hey,
- 59:27it's slick out there, guys.
- 59:28Be careful.
- 59:29Level two is, hey,
- 59:30please stay off the roads unless you have
- 59:34to be out here.
- 59:35Level three is you are not allowed on
- 59:37the roads.
- 59:37You will be arrested if you're out here.
- 59:39So shouldn't it only be two levels then?
- 59:41Because if like level one,
- 59:42I'm pretty sure you know if it's snowing.
- 59:44You don't need the state going, hey,
- 59:47it's snowing, which I take that back.
- 59:50I know how the public works.
- 59:51You actually do need to tell them that
- 59:52it's snowing.
- 59:53I'm sorry.
- 59:54I retract my previous statement.
- 59:55Be careful of this coffee.
- 59:56It's hot.
- 59:57A hundred percent.
- 59:59A hundred percent.
- 1:00:00That's how all of this started.
- 1:00:02Right.
- 1:00:02This Superman Halloween costume will not
- 1:00:05allow you to fly.
- 1:00:07Or be bulletproof.
- 1:00:08Correct.
- 1:00:10Right.
- 1:00:11Yeah, we have to explain everything.
- 1:00:14With that, guys, bundle up, have fun,
- 1:00:19watch a movie,
- 1:00:20watch some old CrossFit Games footage,
- 1:00:23and we'll see everybody next time on Lunch
- 1:00:25with Clydesdale.
