- 0:21Speaker 4: Pat all right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. We are live
- 0:28Speaker 4: with a special edition of our show from training camp
- 0:32Speaker 4: here at Jillette Stadium. We are high above the practice fields, myself,
- 0:35Speaker 4: Fred Kursh, Paul Parrillo, Evan Lazar, Mike du So, Tamara Brown,
- 0:40Speaker 4: and we'll be here for the duration of practice today
- 0:43Speaker 4: with a special guest after the show that we'll get live.
- 0:47Speaker 4: So it's a full slate. Can't wait. Fans are trickling
- 0:51Speaker 4: in here at Jillette Stadium. I can say that city
- 0:54Speaker 4: So was the first player out in the field, but
- 0:56Speaker 4: players are now coming out from the locker room to
- 1:00Speaker 4: the field. So we're getting ready to practice here. Practice
- 1:03Speaker 4: should start approximately eleven o'clock. And she could see Paul, Evan,
- 1:07Speaker 4: Mike Tamara all here ready to go.
- 1:10Speaker 5: Fired up.
- 1:11Speaker 6: You feel so far away. Fred, I'm like, hey, yeah,
- 1:14Speaker 6: I know. It was exciting me and Tamara just came
- 1:16Speaker 6: from down on the fields. A lot of Patriots Unfiltered
- 1:19Speaker 6: listeners down there, including one name.
- 1:21Speaker 5: I believe it's Linda.
- 1:22Speaker 6: Was Linda who drove all the way from Georgia to
- 1:26Speaker 6: come to camp today and to uh not only meet us,
- 1:29Speaker 6: but apparently Alex Barth too. She took a picture of
- 1:31Speaker 6: a selfie with Barth, so you know she catched twenty
- 1:33Speaker 6: two fans. She's a Patriots Unfiltered fans, so it was
- 1:35Speaker 6: cool too. That's a hardcore. It's hardcore like that, she
- 1:38Speaker 6: told me. She told me she even sent a question
- 1:40Speaker 6: into Catch twenty two. When they read it, very exciting
- 1:42Speaker 6: for them day. So they're excited. Fans are excited and
- 1:45Speaker 6: uh making dreams come true, making dreams come dream maker
- 1:48Speaker 6: Evan Lazar and Alex Barth.
- 1:49Speaker 5: So she drove from Georgia from I.
- 1:52Speaker 6: Couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe it. So they're excited.
- 1:54Speaker 7: She told Alex that she wanted to take a picture
- 1:56Speaker 7: with me, but settled for hours and I was cool
- 2:00Speaker 7: with that.
- 2:01Speaker 4: We can see in the fielders Gerd Mayo. We saw
- 2:04Speaker 4: some snippets of Drake may just prior to this, so
- 2:08Speaker 4: everybody's out there full from what we're told, everyone's here.
- 2:13Speaker 4: There's no one missing other than if you're on a list.
- 2:16Speaker 8: Yeah, and we should mention those guys that are, you know,
- 2:19Speaker 8: set to open camp. On lists that the team put
- 2:22Speaker 8: out last night, four players on PUP, they would be
- 2:25Speaker 8: Kendrick Bourne, Cole Strange. No surprises there, Seoni Taki Taki,
- 2:30Speaker 8: and Jake Andrews. Those two guys we didn't see much
- 2:33Speaker 8: of during the spring, so clearly they're dealing with some
- 2:37Speaker 8: physical limitations. Also on NFI, Antonio Gibson, so that's one
- 2:42Speaker 8: to sort of keep an eye on. That running back
- 2:44Speaker 8: spot guys is a little thin, so he would be
- 2:47Speaker 8: one of the two guys along with Ramandra Stevenson obviously
- 2:50Speaker 8: that you'd be relying on.
- 2:51Speaker 9: So I don't know if there's anything long term.
- 2:52Speaker 8: I didn't see any reports about him this morning, but
- 2:55Speaker 8: that's one to sort of worry about.
- 2:57Speaker 7: Yeah, Mayo seemed to indicate we just came Girod Mayo's
- 3:00Speaker 7: press car. I did came from Girod Mayo's press conference,
- 3:03Speaker 7: and he didn't seem too concerned about Antonio Gibson. He
- 3:07Speaker 7: was asked if there was any worry about a long
- 3:10Speaker 7: term absence, and he said, no, not at all.
- 3:12Speaker 9: That's good. Good to hear, Tamara.
- 3:14Speaker 10: I was wondering, you know, we said everyone's here and
- 3:16Speaker 10: everyone's in attendance, but when it comes to jude On
- 3:18Speaker 10: in Godshaw, do you think this is going to be
- 3:20Speaker 10: a situation where they're here and not participating or do
- 3:23Speaker 10: you think that they're going to be full go while
- 3:24Speaker 10: their contracts are possibly.
- 3:26Speaker 4: I see jude On out there, he's got his red
- 3:28Speaker 4: shirt on. He sprinted, He sprinted after the field.
- 3:30Speaker 8: He did the same thing he was doing last year,
- 3:32Speaker 8: which made me think exactly the way Jamara just indicated.
- 3:36Speaker 8: Gerad did say that he expects everybody to practice. I
- 3:39Speaker 8: think that there's probably a different definition depending on the individual,
- 3:45Speaker 8: you know observer.
- 3:46Speaker 6: It's gonna be hard to tell today because it's exactly
- 3:48Speaker 6: not going to be a lot of you know, team
- 3:50Speaker 6: Maybe it'll get a little competitive at the end and
- 3:52Speaker 6: maybe those guys won't be involved, but I'm expecting just
- 3:55Speaker 6: a lot of tune up kind of stuff carry over
- 3:58Speaker 6: from you know, mini camp and just starting to ramp
- 4:00Speaker 6: back up. It's not going to be you know, a
- 4:02Speaker 6: crazy competitive period. I do hope Paul probably in the
- 4:05Speaker 6: red zone. Maybe perhaps maybe some some fades, I don't know.
- 4:08Speaker 6: No red zone, no red zone.
- 4:10Speaker 10: No.
- 4:10Speaker 7: The MAHO also said that they're gonna start.
- 4:12Speaker 6: They're gonna fifty yard line.
- 4:14Speaker 7: They're going to start in the in the open field
- 4:16Speaker 7: with early downs just this portion of camp. No, So
- 4:19Speaker 7: they're not going to start in red zone like Bill
- 4:21Speaker 7: typically would. But there are some things that he said
- 4:24Speaker 7: that they will carry over. You know, if you fall, start,
- 4:26Speaker 7: you run a lap. You know, if you fumble, you
- 4:28Speaker 7: run a lap. You know, those types of things will continue.
- 4:31Speaker 7: But Justina Anderson had to report this morning that Matthew
- 4:34Speaker 7: Junon's not expected to hold in. He's going to participate
- 4:37Speaker 7: in practices, and that drives with what he said in
- 4:40Speaker 7: the spring where he was critical of himself last year
- 4:43Speaker 7: and said that he got a little caught up in
- 4:45Speaker 7: the contract stuff last year and that's not him and
- 4:48Speaker 7: he's a football player, and he actually called it trash
- 4:51Speaker 7: what he did last year by holding in. So I'm
- 4:53Speaker 7: actually expecting him to participate now at what level might
- 4:57Speaker 7: just be he's thirty one years old coming off and
- 4:59Speaker 7: in injury. We're not going to throw them out there
- 5:02Speaker 7: for one hundred percent of the practice naps, so we'll
- 5:04Speaker 7: see what that means.
- 5:05Speaker 4: He's gonna have to take off his shirt and show
- 5:07Speaker 4: his numbers because right now he's the only one not
- 5:10Speaker 4: wearing a jersey.
- 5:12Speaker 11: Uh.
- 5:12Speaker 4: He's playing catch with the fans as he likes to
- 5:14Speaker 4: do before practice at before games, So he's conducting that
- 5:18Speaker 4: ritual right now. But he is wearing a red sweatshirt
- 5:21Speaker 4: and he's gonna have to take that off if he's
- 5:24Speaker 4: gonna participate in some of the drills.
- 5:26Speaker 5: So we'll see.
- 5:27Speaker 6: Maybe happened the whole practice throwing throwing balls to the crowd.
- 5:30Speaker 6: That'd be funny.
- 5:31Speaker 4: Yeah, But a lot of guys coming out right now.
- 5:34Speaker 4: I see David Andrews, the Captain, Hunter Henry walking out,
- 5:39Speaker 4: everyone wearing those Guardian caps.
- 5:41Speaker 5: Over the helmets. I don't know if that's a requirement,
- 5:43Speaker 5: but they're all wearing them.
- 5:45Speaker 6: Yeah, it is.
- 5:45Speaker 7: It is a requirement in practice to wear them for
- 5:48Speaker 7: certain position groups. If you're going to be a position
- 5:51Speaker 7: group that is going to be well in these practices,
- 5:55Speaker 7: not contacting people, but in engagements of that sort, then
- 5:59Speaker 7: it is required. I don't think it's required for let's
- 6:02Speaker 7: say the quarterbacks, because they're in red non contact or
- 6:04Speaker 7: the kicker or whatever. But for linemen, you know, things
- 6:08Speaker 7: like that, that they are required.
- 6:09Speaker 6: Yeah, I've kind of gotten used to them now. It
- 6:11Speaker 6: was so jarring the first training camp that everybody had
- 6:14Speaker 6: them on, and now it's just kind of become second
- 6:16Speaker 6: nature to me. I'm just glad the quarterbacks don't have
- 6:18Speaker 6: to wear them. That might be look that might still
- 6:20Speaker 6: jar me.
- 6:21Speaker 5: Okay, yeah, all right, So what are we looking for today?
- 6:24Speaker 4: I mean, again, it's just helmets, not even shells, so
- 6:28Speaker 4: it's gonna be you know, low speed or.
- 6:33Speaker 5: Something like that.
- 6:34Speaker 10: I was going to say, the first thing I'm looking
- 6:36Speaker 10: at is reps. And I know that drod Mao keeps
- 6:38Speaker 10: saying don't pay attention to the order that they go in,
- 6:40Speaker 10: how many reps they get, et cetera. But I'd be
- 6:42Speaker 10: interested to see, carrying over from mandatory mini camp, how
- 6:45Speaker 10: the reps are split today between the quarterbacks.
- 6:48Speaker 6: Yeah, you can't help it, you can't help but look
- 6:49Speaker 6: at that stuff. But i'd say, some of the guys
- 6:52Speaker 6: that you know didn't end up on PUP, but we're
- 6:56Speaker 6: having some off season injury issues. Julani to Buy, you know,
- 7:00Speaker 6: eisting Gonzalez just you know, are all those guys, fully healthy,
- 7:02Speaker 6: full participants, you know, do they seem like they're ready
- 7:05Speaker 6: to go. That's another thing to kind of watch. Hopefully
- 7:07Speaker 6: there might be a little bit of competition at the end.
- 7:10Speaker 6: But I just think it's interesting what Evan said that
- 7:13Speaker 6: Girot had relayed about starting in the middle of the
- 7:15Speaker 6: field because the last couple of years when they started
- 7:18Speaker 6: in the red zone, it was hard. They couldn't get
- 7:22Speaker 6: any kind of like momentum going, They couldn't really string
- 7:25Speaker 6: plays together offensively, it was you know, all right, well, yeah,
- 7:28Speaker 6: nice fade to Devonte Parker. Otherwise bunch of incompletions and
- 7:32Speaker 6: it looked disjointed. So, you know, maybe part of the
- 7:35Speaker 6: thinking there is, let's not make it so hard right
- 7:37Speaker 6: out of the gate. Let's allow some space so that
- 7:40Speaker 6: our offense can make some plays and can start to
- 7:42Speaker 6: string together and feel good about themselves and start to
- 7:44Speaker 6: build confidence before we take them down to the red
- 7:47Speaker 6: zone and really make things hard on them.
- 7:48Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean makes sense.
- 7:51Speaker 4: Things are a little bit different, as we talked about yesterday,
- 7:54Speaker 4: practices starting around eleven, which is a departure from the
- 7:57Speaker 4: past where it was nine or nine thirty. Gerard wants
- 8:01Speaker 4: to have meetings in the morning and then take those
- 8:04Speaker 4: learnings right onto the field. So there's different ways of
- 8:07Speaker 4: doing it, different philosophies. He could change that up midway
- 8:12Speaker 4: through training camp. I think he's he's very flexible that way.
- 8:16Speaker 4: This morning, he during his press conference, he was talking
- 8:18Speaker 4: about all the different ways that he likes to learn things.
- 8:22Speaker 6: And they're not.
- 8:23Speaker 4: Always from other football sources. Sometimes they're from other businesses.
- 8:27Speaker 4: Sometimes they're from teacher teachers. He's part of that masterclass
- 8:31Speaker 4: thing on the internet that a lot of people sign
- 8:34Speaker 4: up for.
- 8:34Speaker 5: So he takes in information from a lot.
- 8:37Speaker 4: Of different ways and and really, you know, he's he's
- 8:40Speaker 4: an open book when it comes to how he's going
- 8:43Speaker 4: to do things.
- 8:43Speaker 5: This is his first year, and uh, he's.
- 8:46Speaker 4: Learning too, and he's going to find out what works
- 8:48Speaker 4: for not only him but for the team, and he
- 8:51Speaker 4: will adjust as he goes along.
- 8:53Speaker 6: Yeah, he seems fully cognizant that there's gonna be mistakes,
- 8:56Speaker 6: you know. I mean, then a couple of his press conferences,
- 8:58Speaker 6: you know, he says, I think he was talking about
- 9:00Speaker 6: Evan ross sin or so you know, it's like, look,
- 9:02Speaker 6: I'm the one who has to decide everything so I
- 9:04Speaker 6: think he's aware that that right now, and this goes
- 9:06Speaker 6: for kind of everybody across the board. It's you know,
- 9:08Speaker 6: they haven't really had any I don't say controversy, but
- 9:12Speaker 6: it's just it hasn't gotten hard yet. Like this is
- 9:13Speaker 6: all like, hey, we put a new team together, we've
- 9:15Speaker 6: got a rookie quarterback, we've got you know, new offensive coaches,
- 9:18Speaker 6: We've you know, do have some leftovers on defense that
- 9:21Speaker 6: should hopefully still form a core. But I think everybody
- 9:24Speaker 6: understands that things start to get hard now. And you know,
- 9:27Speaker 6: we saw the last couple of years with the offense struggling,
- 9:29Speaker 6: and you know, David Andrews getting up there and you
- 9:31Speaker 6: could see the look on his face of just how
- 9:34Speaker 6: much they were struggling. I don't think it's I hope
- 9:37Speaker 6: it's not going to be that hard for them, or
- 9:38Speaker 6: that you know that they don't seem that dejected. But
- 9:41Speaker 6: I think everybody knows right now is when it all starts,
- 9:44Speaker 6: and this is when things start to happen. Competition, injuries,
- 9:47Speaker 6: guys emerging, and and you know, I think everybody's excited
- 9:50Speaker 6: for that, but but fully aware that that this is
- 9:52Speaker 6: when it gets hard.
- 9:53Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, you mentioned Deuce and Evan that they're
- 9:56Speaker 4: going to start in the middle of the field, not
- 9:58Speaker 4: go for the red zone, not go for like high
- 10:00Speaker 4: pressure type of plays with a small field. And maybe
- 10:04Speaker 4: that's what you're talking about. Maybe he just wants to
- 10:06Speaker 4: have that early success and build on that. But then again,
- 10:12Speaker 4: if the offense is doing well, that means the defense isn't,
- 10:14Speaker 4: So there's always the trade off there, right.
- 10:16Speaker 6: Well, I mean and interesting too, it's like it doesn't
- 10:18Speaker 6: it make it harder on the defense when you're in
- 10:19Speaker 6: the middle of field, like.
- 10:20Speaker 5: The lower round to cover And absolutely no.
- 10:22Speaker 6: I mean not to read too much into it, but
- 10:24Speaker 6: you know, especially when you're talking about what's free safety
- 10:27Speaker 6: look like, you know, that's not really a concern when
- 10:29Speaker 6: the defense right now is playing in the red zone
- 10:30Speaker 6: because they got twenty five strong safeties and linebackers and
- 10:33Speaker 6: they can you know, play a bunch of different combinations.
- 10:35Speaker 6: But you know, once they're in the middle of the field,
- 10:37Speaker 6: you might get a real sense of how they're going
- 10:39Speaker 6: to play, you know, early downs, that kind of stuff.
- 10:42Speaker 6: We've talked a lot about Jalen Hawkins this offseason. Is
- 10:45Speaker 6: he in the mix here especially early on and definitely
- 10:48Speaker 6: one player that I'm watching to see if if he emerges.
- 10:51Speaker 4: So yesterday, Girod Mayo was very clear in saying that
- 10:55Speaker 4: Jacoby Brissett is the starter starting quarterback right now, and
- 11:00Speaker 4: you know, you look for little clues. The quarterbacks are
- 11:03Speaker 4: practicing the snaps with centers, and Jacoby Brissett's with David Andrews,
- 11:08Speaker 4: so that would fall in line with what uh Gerard said.
- 11:13Speaker 5: Drake may is with I think he's with Mafi. I
- 11:15Speaker 5: think Mafi's snapping to him.
- 11:17Speaker 10: But.
- 11:19Speaker 5: Yes it is. Yeah, so you know that that makes
- 11:22Speaker 5: sense that and and we'll look for those little clues
- 11:25Speaker 5: throughout camp to see if any of that is changing.
- 11:28Speaker 6: Nick Leverett fit snapping to Joe Milton.
- 11:30Speaker 7: Yeah, so Jake Andrews is on p P Mafi right
- 11:34Speaker 7: now is probably your your backup center at this point
- 11:37Speaker 7: in time, So Drake may would be with the backup
- 11:41Speaker 7: center and then Joe Milton is with Leverett.
- 11:44Speaker 6: Kind of surprised we haven't seen Charles turn around. That mean,
- 11:46Speaker 6: he's an undrafted rookie, but he was a you know,
- 11:47Speaker 6: a pure center at LSU.
- 11:50Speaker 8: Uh.
- 11:50Speaker 6: His coaches spoke highly of him, and you know, his
- 11:52Speaker 6: chances is an undrafted rookie to maybe make a team,
- 11:55Speaker 6: but so far it doesn't really look he's getting many
- 11:57Speaker 6: looks at center. He's pretty much been at guard, I believe.
- 12:00Speaker 4: Yeah, in terms of just the atmosphere, everything looks great.
- 12:05Speaker 5: It's all set up for the fans. Uh, fans are
- 12:08Speaker 5: trickling in.
- 12:08Speaker 4: It's It wasn't the mad rush that we've seen during
- 12:11Speaker 4: the dynasty years.
- 12:12Speaker 9: Very disappointed. No running of the jersey.
- 12:14Speaker 4: Yeah, but you know, listen, I think you know, to
- 12:17Speaker 4: compare now to back then is pointless.
- 12:20Speaker 5: We're not there anymore.
- 12:21Speaker 10: I would also point to today's weather, Fred, when I
- 12:24Speaker 10: looked at it until eighty percent chance of rain, I
- 12:27Speaker 10: can't say that I would be running out to see
- 12:28Speaker 10: guys in T shirts and helmets like they're not even
- 12:31Speaker 10: actually doing much of anything today. So I think I
- 12:33Speaker 10: would rather wait until it's sunny and maybe they have
- 12:36Speaker 10: pads on to come out to practice.
- 12:37Speaker 5: Good point.
- 12:38Speaker 6: Or you would just hope that fans also understand that
- 12:40Speaker 6: the first day it's exciting to be here, for sure,
- 12:42Speaker 6: but if you're going to come out here and watch
- 12:44Speaker 6: a practice, you're probably next week you're going to see
- 12:46Speaker 6: a little bit more action, probably, right, but you know
- 12:49Speaker 6: there's still I mean, I just think it's a great day.
- 12:52Speaker 6: Get this close to to the to the peak players.
- 12:55Speaker 6: You know, this is the first chance that all the
- 12:57Speaker 6: fans are getting to see Drake May. So we had
- 12:58Speaker 6: a chance a few times this spring see him, and
- 13:01Speaker 6: you know, it's just you can see why he was
- 13:03Speaker 6: a third overall pick.
- 13:04Speaker 4: I think there's something to be said as a fan
- 13:05Speaker 4: to say, hey, I was there for Drake May's first
- 13:07Speaker 4: training camp practice.
- 13:09Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 13:09Speaker 10: Yeah, but I will say this is an unusual weather
- 13:12Speaker 10: day for the first day of training camp. I feel
- 13:13Speaker 10: like it's usually like it's cold.
- 13:16Speaker 6: I'm cold, but I'm still sweating.
- 13:19Speaker 9: Yeah, I need to throw would get someone get blankets.
- 13:23Speaker 10: I wouldn't say I'm cold bread and I feel like
- 13:26Speaker 10: the fluoridian in me I should be saying I'm cold. Yeah,
- 13:29Speaker 10: but I feel like it's just weird. It's not sunny
- 13:31Speaker 10: and you know ninety two.
- 13:33Speaker 4: Yeah, we might get some rain in about fifteen twenty
- 13:36Speaker 4: minutes according to the radar, but no lightning. So there's
- 13:40Speaker 4: no really feared today of you know, the players having
- 13:43Speaker 4: to go into the bubble, which is what they do
- 13:45Speaker 4: when lightnings in the area. So we'll have a full
- 13:48Speaker 4: practice outdoors.
- 13:49Speaker 6: That's these like waste innovations fieldhouse threads.
- 13:51Speaker 5: Yes, yes, current the waste wind innovation.
- 13:56Speaker 7: Lines of talking about. Is today, you know, not really
- 14:00Speaker 7: the most exciting day because they're not in pads. Gerard
- 14:03Speaker 7: actually said they're not going to be in pads until
- 14:05Speaker 7: this time next week. He said seven days, seven days
- 14:09Speaker 7: until they get into pads. So league requirement is five
- 14:12Speaker 7: so they're not exactly following that, but he yeah, he
- 14:15Speaker 7: said that seven days is the plan right now to
- 14:19Speaker 7: be in pad. So I don't think they're gonna be
- 14:22Speaker 7: padded practices until Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
- 14:25Speaker 5: How do we feel about that?
- 14:28Speaker 6: I'll tell you once we see the actual padded practices,
- 14:30Speaker 6: because I felt like even when we got to padded
- 14:32Speaker 6: practices the last couple of years, they were kind of
- 14:35Speaker 6: you know, even then kind of felt dial back to me.
- 14:37Speaker 6: There was no more kind of goal line. That stuff
- 14:39Speaker 6: was gone. So I don't know, I mean, once we
- 14:41Speaker 6: get there, if they're pretty intense and it feels like
- 14:43Speaker 6: I mean, we talk about what he said yesterday, there's
- 14:45Speaker 6: gonna be some shorter practices. We're only really expecting to
- 14:48Speaker 6: go till about twelve thirty to day an hour and
- 14:50Speaker 6: a half.
- 14:50Speaker 10: I'm interested with his coaching style just because I feel
- 14:54Speaker 10: like a lot of it is being implemented from as
- 14:57Speaker 10: the guys like to say, he's a player's coach. So
- 14:59Speaker 10: I'm wondering if maybe he's waiting those extra two days
- 15:02Speaker 10: because as a player, or maybe he's heard from his
- 15:04Speaker 10: players that they need those extra two days their body
- 15:07Speaker 10: meets the break. So I'm wondering if a lot of
- 15:09Speaker 10: that has to do with he's been on both sides
- 15:11Speaker 10: of it.
- 15:11Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 15:12Speaker 8: I'm with you, Fred I can stand in your voice.
- 15:15Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't care for.
- 15:18Speaker 8: It, and especially like to me, I kind of like
- 15:22Speaker 8: the idea of shorter, more intense practices. Yeah, this seems
- 15:26Speaker 8: like neither. It seems like it's a shorter, less intense.
- 15:29Speaker 5: Is this what the Eagles are doing with Sirianni?
- 15:31Speaker 8: Yeah, And that's something that Mike and I talked about
- 15:33Speaker 8: off air. Mike, we don't talk about everything on the AID.
- 15:36Speaker 8: You know, when we were down in Philly a couple
- 15:38Speaker 8: of years ago for those joint practices, it was kind
- 15:41Speaker 8: of jarring how much shorter the practices were. The joint
- 15:44Speaker 8: practices with Sirianni in his first year. And I know
- 15:48Speaker 8: that we're doing joint practices again with Philadelphia. So obviously
- 15:52Speaker 8: girod Mayo's okay with that set up because they know
- 15:54Speaker 8: what they're getting into. Gerard was on that staffa it
- 15:57Speaker 8: was only a couple of years ago. So I do
- 16:00Speaker 8: think that when he mentioned that yesterday about you know,
- 16:03Speaker 8: fluctuating and having a you know, sort of reading the room,
- 16:07Speaker 8: you know, for lack of a better term, when he
- 16:09Speaker 8: thinks the players need to, you know, get a little
- 16:13Speaker 8: time off. It might be an hour and a half practice,
- 16:15Speaker 8: It might be an hour and forty five minutes. Conversely,
- 16:17Speaker 8: it might need might be a two hours fifteen minutes. Yeah,
- 16:20Speaker 8: you know, maybe a little longer.
- 16:21Speaker 5: So I'm all for adjusting on the go.
- 16:23Speaker 8: I like that, say, yeah, not being in pads when
- 16:27Speaker 8: it can be in pads, right.
- 16:29Speaker 4: You know, And that's something you know tomorrow you're going
- 16:31Speaker 4: to interview a player after right after practice. It might
- 16:35Speaker 4: be Dietrich Wide or Pop Douglas, I think one of
- 16:38Speaker 4: the two. But one of the questions maybe you can
- 16:40Speaker 4: ask them is how do you know, how do you
- 16:44Speaker 4: get ready for pads? Like is there something that you
- 16:48Speaker 4: can do while you're still in shells to get your
- 16:51Speaker 4: body ready for that first day in pads, you know,
- 16:55Speaker 4: And and is that something you know you're look forward
- 16:57Speaker 4: to and all that.
- 16:58Speaker 5: I'm sure they do, but mentally and.
- 17:00Speaker 4: Physically, how do you how do you get yourself ready
- 17:03Speaker 4: for pads when it's it's going to be you know,
- 17:06Speaker 4: a week before you do that.
- 17:08Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, and just you know, starting in the middle
- 17:11Speaker 7: of the field and then no pads for a week.
- 17:14Speaker 7: It just kind of counterintuitive to me because the whole
- 17:18Speaker 7: part of this offense is having the run game take hold,
- 17:21Speaker 7: to have it all merry up together and all these things.
- 17:24Speaker 7: And they haven't really worked on run game because they
- 17:26Speaker 7: haven't been in pads. So yeah, you can go through
- 17:28Speaker 7: the motions of getting into your blocks and things like that,
- 17:30Speaker 7: but it's not the same as actually hitting somebody.
- 17:33Speaker 4: It's like, you know, it's hockey training camp, but we're
- 17:36Speaker 4: not gonna be on skates for a week, you know.
- 17:39Speaker 8: Yeah, and we'll see, you know, how it all unfolds.
- 17:41Speaker 8: Because I think Mike makes a good point. If all
- 17:44Speaker 8: of a sudden, next Tuesday or Wednesday, a banger and
- 17:47Speaker 8: you know, they're really cracking skulls. You know, maybe say,
- 17:51Speaker 8: all right, while he was he was giving them up
- 17:52Speaker 8: a little extra give them a little extra time. I
- 17:55Speaker 8: would look at that make more sense. Yeah, to sort
- 17:58Speaker 8: of gradually work to Fred's point, like, how do you
- 18:00Speaker 8: get ready to be in pads? Like, wouldn't you make
- 18:02Speaker 8: more sense to gradually get the pads on, start hitting
- 18:06Speaker 8: right and then work up to goal line maybe on
- 18:08Speaker 8: day two or three in pads.
- 18:10Speaker 6: Yeah, excuse just as a linebacker's former linebacker, you feel
- 18:13Speaker 6: like he might be kind of itching to get the
- 18:15Speaker 6: pads on because that's probably where the most quality work
- 18:17Speaker 6: came for him.
- 18:18Speaker 5: And now here we are complaining.
- 18:20Speaker 4: But for all we know, they're starting late with pads
- 18:23Speaker 4: so they can have more pads together down the road,
- 18:27Speaker 4: you know what I mean.
- 18:28Speaker 9: When we're not around.
- 18:29Speaker 7: Yeah right, yeah, maybe, yeah, I just again, starting in
- 18:33Speaker 7: the middle of the field signals to me how they
- 18:36Speaker 7: are aware how important early downs is going to be
- 18:39Speaker 7: for this offense. They're gonna have to be a lot
- 18:41Speaker 7: more successful. And we talk so much about third down,
- 18:44Speaker 7: red zone because those are the stats that we extrapolate
- 18:46Speaker 7: the most when we look at offenses, but first and
- 18:50Speaker 7: second down, especially first down nowadays is really turning into
- 18:54Speaker 7: the most important down in football. So in order to
- 18:57Speaker 7: get ready for that, starting in the middle of the field.
- 19:00Speaker 4: And I think, I think to couple with that, I
- 19:03Speaker 4: think it's symbolic that this offense is really starting from scratch.
- 19:07Speaker 4: So there's no sense in going into the red zone
- 19:09Speaker 4: if we can't get to the red zone. So let's
- 19:11Speaker 4: let's start from the ground floor. Let's make sure we
- 19:15Speaker 4: can get those early downs looking good so that we're
- 19:19Speaker 4: in third and manageable and we're not third and long,
- 19:21Speaker 4: and we can we can have successful drives.
- 19:24Speaker 8: Yeah, I'm not overly concerned where they start. I know
- 19:26Speaker 8: that Bill liked to start there because that's the most
- 19:29Speaker 8: important area on the on the field for both sides
- 19:32Speaker 8: of the ball. Those are where games are won and lost.
- 19:35Speaker 8: Is generally who wins in the red zone, and you
- 19:38Speaker 8: need more practice there. I mean, I understand why Bill
- 19:41Speaker 8: did it that way. You know, it doesn't mean you
- 19:43Speaker 8: have to do it that no. I mean, I'm sure
- 19:45Speaker 8: they're gonna have a lot of red zone work before
- 19:48Speaker 8: camp is over.
- 19:48Speaker 4: But again, for a team that is literally starting from
- 19:51Speaker 4: scratch on offense, which this team is, I can understand
- 19:55Speaker 4: if that was the decision.
- 19:57Speaker 6: You know it makes sense. Yeah, I'll give you one
- 19:59Speaker 6: more thing too. Uh the kicker competition. I mean I
- 20:02Speaker 6: think that's a real competition between Joey Sly and and
- 20:05Speaker 6: Chid Ryland.
- 20:06Speaker 8: Uh.
- 20:06Speaker 6: You know whether or not people want to hear it
- 20:07Speaker 6: or not.
- 20:08Speaker 9: But keep me updated.
- 20:12Speaker 6: Distances. I wrote about it. I'm just teasing you. Already
- 20:15Speaker 6: got your It was one of my questions, how are
- 20:17Speaker 6: they going to do?
- 20:18Speaker 5: Already write?
- 20:18Speaker 9: Oh no, no, I didn't write that.
- 20:20Speaker 10: I can tell you from years of watching Joey Sly,
- 20:22Speaker 10: unless he gets hurt, he's going to.
- 20:23Speaker 5: Beat him out. Yeah. Oh yeah, tell me tell me that.
- 20:26Speaker 7: I love that.
- 20:27Speaker 5: Tell me.
- 20:29Speaker 10: Like And I'm not just saying that because he went
- 20:30Speaker 10: to Virginia Tech. Excellent kicks.
- 20:35Speaker 9: He's a kicker. I didn't know where he went to.
- 20:38Speaker 10: Yeah, he's excellent.
- 20:39Speaker 6: I mean, if you had to pick somebody off for
- 20:41Speaker 6: those mini campras, he was most He's reliable.
- 20:44Speaker 10: So I'm saying if as long as he doesn't get hurt,
- 20:46Speaker 10: I could definitely see him winning the job.
- 20:48Speaker 5: And is Bearinger He's the only punter in camp.
- 20:52Speaker 6: Slash golfer sash golfer, so is he.
- 20:54Speaker 5: Is that a lock, or do you think they might
- 20:56Speaker 5: bring somebody in later.
- 20:57Speaker 7: Or he had a good rooking season.
- 20:58Speaker 5: He was fine.
- 21:00Speaker 8: Okay, I think he had the most punts found inside
- 21:02Speaker 8: the twenty. Now that's a I was gonna receiving step
- 21:05Speaker 8: because he also more than everybody else. But he Yeah,
- 21:09Speaker 8: I thought he had a pretty pretty good rookie season.
- 21:11Speaker 9: I agree with Evan.
- 21:12Speaker 7: So we have perfect attendance unless I'm obviously the five
- 21:15Speaker 7: guys that Paul mentioned off the top that are on
- 21:17Speaker 7: the list or not here. But everybody that is supposed
- 21:20Speaker 7: to be here is here, including god Scha is here,
- 21:24Speaker 7: and Judon's here. Judon put on a jersey.
- 21:26Speaker 5: Fred Okay, there you go there.
- 21:29Speaker 8: Yeah, that's that's his uh, his mo o. He always
- 21:32Speaker 8: comes out with his jersey, usually in his helmet.
- 21:34Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 21:36Speaker 8: But yeah, I'm still I'm with Tamara. I'm still gonna
- 21:39Speaker 8: sort of keep my eye out when they do some
- 21:42Speaker 8: some of the drills. Seven on sevens, eleven on eleven's
- 21:45Speaker 8: whatever if is he going to.
- 21:46Speaker 5: Be in there?
- 21:47Speaker 9: And the spring he wasn't.
- 21:48Speaker 6: Also, two kickoffs, I mean that's another thing we we
- 21:50Speaker 6: we've been seeing throughout the spring, new kickoff rules, so
- 21:54Speaker 6: you know, Marcus Jones.
- 21:55Speaker 8: Another one you can shot for me, Mike, I got you.
- 21:58Speaker 6: Paul Special Teams, I'll get you on the on the
- 22:00Speaker 6: kickoff too, got that for you.
- 22:01Speaker 7: I'm just fascinated to see what kind of scheming they
- 22:04Speaker 7: do on kickoffs in terms of the blocking schemes and
- 22:06Speaker 7: stuff like that. That's interesting.
- 22:08Speaker 5: We can't report on it.
- 22:09Speaker 7: It's a little different than a normal kickoff where we've
- 22:12Speaker 7: seen it five million times over the course of our lives.
- 22:15Speaker 7: This is gonna be unique. There's different strategies in different
- 22:18Speaker 7: ways that you can go about blocking it up and returning.
- 22:22Speaker 7: So it's gonna be interesting to see what they pull out.
- 22:26Speaker 6: Interesting here they're doing the walk backwards very slowly drill yeah,
- 22:29Speaker 6: which I guess is like maybe I don't tear your achilles.
- 22:34Speaker 6: Nobody tear their achilles today.
- 22:35Speaker 8: That's a be careful you never know who's around.
- 22:39Speaker 6: Just back up slowly.
- 22:42Speaker 4: Looks like Brian McDonough is leading this. Brian mcdonno is
- 22:46Speaker 4: a guy who's worked with players for a long time,
- 22:49Speaker 4: but privately he owns a training facility in Foxborough and
- 22:55Speaker 4: a lot of guys went to him in the off
- 22:57Speaker 4: season and used to train with him. And he's always
- 22:59Speaker 4: been around, but now he's officially part of the staff
- 23:02Speaker 4: after all these years, so.
- 23:04Speaker 5: He's he's not from dropping the knowledge. Ugh, yeah, he's
- 23:08Speaker 5: not new to the team.
- 23:10Speaker 4: He's been around the Patriots for for i'd say fifteen
- 23:14Speaker 4: sixteen years.
- 23:15Speaker 6: How long was Moses here? I mean, Moses.
- 23:17Speaker 5: Was quite a long time. Yeah.
- 23:19Speaker 6: So, I mean a lot of everybody, you know, obviously
- 23:21Speaker 6: knows the coaching changes, but you know some of the
- 23:23Speaker 6: changes on the training staff. You're seeing a little bit
- 23:25Speaker 6: of you know, tweaks to the warm up stuff. I'm
- 23:27Speaker 6: sure that the off season program was probably a little
- 23:29Speaker 6: bit different than what it's been in the past. So
- 23:32Speaker 6: it's just such a ground zero kind of day here today.
- 23:35Speaker 6: I mean, you just it's it's all starts right here.
- 23:36Speaker 5: It all starts right here.
- 23:37Speaker 4: Any any visitors guests that we can see, you know,
- 23:42Speaker 4: teams with their coaches or anything like that, didn't see him.
- 23:45Speaker 6: Remember down there, Rob Nikovitch did get to go before
- 23:47Speaker 6: Tamara and I speaking of the crowd, talk a little
- 23:50Speaker 6: bit about ten year anniversary of Super Bowl forty nine. Yeah,
- 23:53Speaker 6: and of course Rob Nikovitch with a big sack there
- 23:55Speaker 6: in the fourth quarter on third down to set up
- 23:58Speaker 6: the game winning I guess it was. Yeah, the game
- 24:01Speaker 6: end up being the game winning drive before all the
- 24:03Speaker 6: dramatics with Malcolm Butler. But he's the only one I've
- 24:06Speaker 6: seen so far, unless you want to count Scott Zolacitt
- 24:08Speaker 6: right over there.
- 24:08Speaker 9: That's I don't now, not a celebrity.
- 24:11Speaker 6: Not a celebrity.
- 24:13Speaker 9: Oh sorry, Joe.
- 24:14Speaker 8: So I was just telling it like, it is, uh
- 24:18Speaker 8: so good news to see the team pretty healthy to
- 24:23Speaker 8: start now. I'm ninety nine percent sure that I said
- 24:26Speaker 8: the same exact thing last year, and then all of
- 24:29Speaker 8: a sudden, you know, he gone.
- 24:30Speaker 9: I think it was like the.
- 24:32Speaker 8: Day one or two, maybe day two or three, Cold
- 24:34Speaker 8: Strange went down with an injury that I think really impacted.
- 24:38Speaker 9: His whole season.
- 24:39Speaker 8: So yeah, these are the kinds of things. You know,
- 24:42Speaker 8: it's good to start off healthy, but it's far more important.
- 24:46Speaker 5: We know there will be injuries. Yeah, there will be injuries.
- 24:50Speaker 10: And I mean, well, do you think the health of
- 24:53Speaker 10: this team is why he's being so cautious with these practices?
- 24:57Speaker 5: No, I don't know. I don't.
- 24:59Speaker 6: I mean, I think at a certain point you just
- 25:01Speaker 6: have to go, but I don't know.
- 25:03Speaker 4: Yeah, I just realized that this is different. You have
- 25:08Speaker 4: defense on one side, offense on the other side during stretching,
- 25:12Speaker 4: which usually they were all together on the same field,
- 25:15Speaker 4: So this is a little bit different. McDonald's lee one side,
- 25:19Speaker 4: and a Grodd's brother I believe is Deron Mayo is
- 25:24Speaker 4: leading the other side the offense, so that is different.
- 25:28Speaker 4: I don't know why, what the philosophy is behind that,
- 25:31Speaker 4: but I'm sure there's always some reason why they decided.
- 25:34Speaker 5: To do that.
- 25:35Speaker 6: I two, Fred, I just take a second to highlight
- 25:37Speaker 6: a couple of position groups where it feels like the
- 25:40Speaker 6: depth is kind of tenuous. I mean, certainly with Jude On,
- 25:43Speaker 6: I mean he kind of stands alone as an all
- 25:45Speaker 6: around linebacker. I mean Paul mentioned Antonio Gibson. I mean
- 25:49Speaker 6: you're putting a lot on Antonio Gibson and Remandro Stevenson
- 25:52Speaker 6: right now. And if I mean, if even one of
- 25:54Speaker 6: those guys goes down, it's immediately a concern.
- 25:57Speaker 5: So Paul's not concerned. He can always get another guy
- 25:59Speaker 5: off this.
- 26:01Speaker 8: The fact that you can always get another guy off
- 26:02Speaker 8: the street is valid. But they haven't gotten another guy
- 26:06Speaker 8: off the street, and I think they've had opportunities. I
- 26:08Speaker 8: would say that another position. I would throw in there
- 26:11Speaker 8: for Mike his corner. And we've talked a lot about
- 26:14Speaker 8: Gilmore and he's still available.
- 26:17Speaker 6: You know. Like I thought a guy like.
- 26:18Speaker 8: Cam Akers might make some sense for the Patriots. Unfortunately
- 26:22Speaker 8: someone else thought the same thing, and he recently signed.
- 26:25Speaker 8: I think, or he's about to sign. I think with Houston,
- 26:28Speaker 8: maybe Latavious Murray, something like that. I think they had
- 26:32Speaker 8: who's the kid from Cleveland Felton? Yeah, Patrick Felton a
- 26:36Speaker 8: very similar player to Antonio Gibson. Obviously has some familiarity
- 26:40Speaker 8: with the Brown system and Alex Van Pelt, so you know,
- 26:43Speaker 8: I think he was in for a workout, Yester.
- 26:46Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 26:47Speaker 7: Dimitric Felton is basically a carbon copy of Antonio Gibson.
- 26:51Speaker 7: I believe he played receiver in college just the same
- 26:54Speaker 7: as Gibson did, and is a pass catching back. He's,
- 26:57Speaker 7: you know, a speedback, pass catching back. But we've been
- 27:01Speaker 7: saying running back is an area that.
- 27:03Speaker 4: I mean, you have to have running back, but no,
- 27:06Speaker 4: they don't have a lot of They have about six
- 27:08Speaker 4: and can't.
- 27:09Speaker 7: Yeah, but they have two running backs that have done
- 27:10Speaker 7: anything in the NFL, right, and both those guys are
- 27:14Speaker 7: are gonna be big parts, and we should mention you know,
- 27:16Speaker 7: non football injury signifies that Antonio Gibson was injured away
- 27:21Speaker 7: from the facility. Uh you know, usually it's like a
- 27:23Speaker 7: training injury or something along those lines. That it wasn't
- 27:26Speaker 7: in a practice, it wasn't in an organized team activity.
- 27:29Speaker 7: So that's why he goes on n FI instead of
- 27:32Speaker 7: on PUP. But like I said, Girodmeyo didn't seem super
- 27:36Speaker 7: worried about it as a long term thing. But that aside,
- 27:39Speaker 7: even if Antonio Gibson's back here, RB three is is
- 27:42Speaker 7: an area of this team that is very very thin.
- 27:44Speaker 7: I mean they just is Kevin Harris is a Jamichael Hasty.
- 27:47Speaker 7: Two guys that have really just not played a whole
- 27:50Speaker 7: lot of offense right occreers.
- 27:52Speaker 8: In the NFL, you know, and maybe you know that
- 27:54Speaker 8: they really like the two undrafted free agents or one
- 27:56Speaker 8: of the two you know, you know with with Fenwick
- 27:59Speaker 8: and Jennings.
- 28:01Speaker 5: So what does that.
- 28:04Speaker 6: Paul I was waiting to Sissy if I needed to
- 28:06Speaker 6: help you out.
- 28:06Speaker 4: So with a Van Pelt offense, according to Evan, it
- 28:10Speaker 4: is it maybe leans a little more run heavy than
- 28:14Speaker 4: other offenses.
- 28:15Speaker 5: What are we surmising from.
- 28:17Speaker 6: This, that's a good question, Fred. I mean, I think
- 28:20Speaker 6: the tackle gets all the well, they kind of ignored
- 28:22Speaker 6: that position that gets all the attention, but you know,
- 28:25Speaker 6: it just it feels like they're one running back kind
- 28:27Speaker 6: of short. I mean, you know, I think Evan and
- 28:29Speaker 6: I when we did the draft, like we would both
- 28:31Speaker 6: talk a lot about, you know, one of these to
- 28:33Speaker 6: be crazy, like a Day three guy, but you know,
- 28:35Speaker 6: somebody who has a little bit of a pedigree or promises.
- 28:38Speaker 5: Bring Sony Michelle out retirement.
- 28:40Speaker 8: But I would say last year in Cleveland, you know,
- 28:44Speaker 8: it was kind of a similar situation with Nick Chubb.
- 28:46Speaker 8: And you know they have a lot of the eggs
- 28:48Speaker 8: in the Nick Chubb basket, right, It's it's all him.
- 28:52Speaker 9: He went down. Kareem Hunt is there, but he's more
- 28:55Speaker 9: of the Gibson kind of guy for them, you know.
- 28:58Speaker 8: And then they started rotating some guys through old friend
- 29:01Speaker 8: Pierre Strong. Oh yeah, actually got a little run and
- 29:04Speaker 8: I think was it. Ford played a little bit for
- 29:07Speaker 8: them last year for the Browns, but similar kind of situation.
- 29:11Speaker 8: Not necessarily a stable of proven backs behind Nick Chubb.
- 29:15Speaker 8: Right in Kareem Hunt, they had two guys that they
- 29:18Speaker 8: probably felt pretty good about I think Alex van Pelt
- 29:21Speaker 8: probably feels pretty good about Stevenson and Gibson. Yeah, so
- 29:24Speaker 8: it's probably not all that different.
- 29:26Speaker 6: Now, and they if those two guys stay healthy, I
- 29:27Speaker 6: think it's a pretty pretty good one two punch. But
- 29:29Speaker 6: I you know, I go back to and again things
- 29:31Speaker 6: have changed, so philosophies have shifted, I'm sure, but it
- 29:34Speaker 6: always felt like you had four backs that you at
- 29:37Speaker 6: least had played a little bit or had some promise,
- 29:39Speaker 6: or or rookies. And I mean, maybe we're ignoring Kevin
- 29:42Speaker 6: Harris too. Maybe they think a little higher of him
- 29:44Speaker 6: than than we've seen so far. I mean, he was
- 29:46Speaker 6: he was okay last year when he finally got a
- 29:48Speaker 6: chance when but again there's just such a big difference
- 29:50Speaker 6: between Roland Remandre out there and supplementing him with Gibson.
- 29:54Speaker 4: It's nified non football injury too. We have any idea
- 29:57Speaker 4: what it is.
- 29:57Speaker 6: No reports yet on that, but I mean, as Evan said,
- 30:00Speaker 6: you know, probably some kind of training injury. He was
- 30:02Speaker 6: here this spring, heavily involved, no issues.
- 30:05Speaker 4: So if they do bring somebody in, maybe that tells
- 30:09Speaker 4: us that it's a little more serious than we know.
- 30:12Speaker 8: I didn't think he did much in the spring, and
- 30:14Speaker 8: then certainly the practices that I was here.
- 30:17Speaker 9: I don't know if that was related to this. No,
- 30:20Speaker 9: he seemed healthy in the spring, he was.
- 30:22Speaker 8: Definitely and he was out there in uniform yeah, yeah,
- 30:25Speaker 8: I mean in his shirt and helmet.
- 30:27Speaker 7: Yeah. So Deshaun Fenwick is the UDFA running back that
- 30:30Speaker 7: I would look at that some people were pretty high
- 30:33Speaker 7: on as a late, you know, day three type of
- 30:35Speaker 7: guy in the draft ends up going undrafted. But Terrell
- 30:38Speaker 7: Jennings is their other UDFA there, and he's also on
- 30:41Speaker 7: pup to start camp, so he's not out here right now.
- 30:44Speaker 7: But Deshaun Fenwick, I spent a lot of time in
- 30:46Speaker 7: college USC, Oregon State, bounced around.
- 30:49Speaker 8: I think he spent six years in college. Fenwick one
- 30:52Speaker 8: of those guys. He was pretty good at Oregon State.
- 30:54Speaker 7: Yeah, but he's average over five yards of carry in
- 30:57Speaker 7: college and had some flash at Oregon State the last
- 31:00Speaker 7: couple of years for sure. So he could be somebody
- 31:03Speaker 7: that could make a push here. But I think we're
- 31:07Speaker 7: all in the same boat.
- 31:08Speaker 5: With the craft is on the field.
- 31:12Speaker 6: To your point of it, I mean, it's it's hard
- 31:14Speaker 6: to really glean much about running backs until you probably
- 31:16Speaker 6: get into preseason games, but at the very least getting
- 31:18Speaker 6: to pads and for such a critical part of this offense,
- 31:22Speaker 6: you know, it will be a little bit frustrating not
- 31:24Speaker 6: to get a real sense of those, you know, lower
- 31:26Speaker 6: end guys. We know what Remondre can do. There's just
- 31:29Speaker 6: some opportunity exists there.
- 31:30Speaker 7: There's just so much emphasis on the system, it feels
- 31:33Speaker 7: like to me. And you know, as we know about
- 31:37Speaker 7: running backs with the data, it suggests that you can
- 31:40Speaker 7: basically plug in a lot of different running backs and
- 31:43Speaker 7: probably get relatively the same production if you're blocking it
- 31:45Speaker 7: well and it's sequenced together properly. And there's a lot
- 31:49Speaker 7: right now, and I think it was Tom Curns on
- 31:51Speaker 7: one of Paul's shows said that Alex van Pelt is
- 31:54Speaker 7: the most important person in the building right now. And
- 31:57Speaker 7: that's exactly how it feels to me, because if his
- 31:59Speaker 7: system doesn't work, if it doesn't take hold, they're going
- 32:03Speaker 7: to be swimming upstream in a lot of different areas
- 32:05Speaker 7: on offense, as we know already from a personnel standpoint,
- 32:08Speaker 7: and there's just so much riding on outside zone bootleg
- 32:12Speaker 7: actions like all of this just kind of coming together
- 32:14Speaker 7: and I think running backs another place where that's the case,
- 32:17Speaker 7: where they're just hoping that okay, well somebody gets hurt,
- 32:20Speaker 7: that Kevin Harris will just take on a bigger role
- 32:23Speaker 7: and then they'll still be productive. And I think that's
- 32:25Speaker 7: a lot to ask.
- 32:26Speaker 5: I think running backs, you know who I don't see, okay,
- 32:35Speaker 5: I feel like.
- 32:35Speaker 10: He's always lurking around. Also, I feel like it's hard
- 32:39Speaker 10: to talk about the running packs without talking about the
- 32:41Speaker 10: offensive line because it all starts with them, and unfortunately,
- 32:45Speaker 10: like you've seen for Remandre and even Zeke last year
- 32:48Speaker 10: that it was tough for them to get anything going
- 32:50Speaker 10: when there wasn't anywhere to go because the offensive line
- 32:52Speaker 10: was struggling.
- 32:53Speaker 4: Well, that might change this year, Tamara, because of the style.
- 32:56Speaker 4: It's more of like, you know, by the time the
- 32:59Speaker 4: balls in the running backs hands, the lines already on
- 33:02Speaker 4: the move, you know, according to Evan, that's the way
- 33:06Speaker 4: this offense runs.
- 33:07Speaker 5: So there might be a little bit more room.
- 33:10Speaker 4: But you're right, last year there was so much contact
- 33:14Speaker 4: behind the line of scrimmage they couldn't get their momentum going.
- 33:17Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, not everybody's Nick Chubb, So I'm not
- 33:19Speaker 7: trying to say that the Browns offense was the same
- 33:21Speaker 7: with and without Nick Chubb. But statistically the running backs
- 33:25Speaker 7: that replaced Nick Chubb over the years did well in
- 33:28Speaker 7: Cleveland to the point where it was productive in the
- 33:31Speaker 7: running game. Was it yards after contact like crazy like
- 33:35Speaker 7: Nick Chubb can produce. No, But they were still averaging,
- 33:38Speaker 7: you know, top ten in the league and yards per
- 33:41Speaker 7: carrying things like that because their system and their scheme
- 33:44Speaker 7: and they're blocking and all that kind of stuff is
- 33:47Speaker 7: sound and it works and that's what they would do.
- 33:50Speaker 10: Evan, do you think this offensive line here has a
- 33:54Speaker 10: chance to do what the Browns offensive line was doing.
- 33:56Speaker 7: They're not as talented as I mean, I have major
- 33:59Speaker 7: concerns about scheme fit for a lot of these alignement,
- 34:02Speaker 7: about what they're trying to do. I mean, if Mike
- 34:04Speaker 7: on Wendy's playing tackle at three hundred and forty pounds
- 34:08Speaker 7: and then you're trying to get him out on the
- 34:10Speaker 7: edge to try to block, you know, outside zone, it's
- 34:13Speaker 7: just it's tenuous. It's tenuous if they're going to have
- 34:16Speaker 7: the personnel to run that kind of system.
- 34:18Speaker 5: To see the line there on your screen, whether it's
- 34:20Speaker 5: your phone or your smart TV, and you see the
- 34:23Speaker 5: quarterbacks in the other box warming up.
- 34:26Speaker 10: I wasn't on the show with you guys yesterday after
- 34:28Speaker 10: Mayo spoke, But how did you feel, guys, just after
- 34:32Speaker 10: hearing girod Mayo talk. Do you feel like he's confident
- 34:35Speaker 10: in what they have or because he was asked about
- 34:38Speaker 10: like Okay, who's gonna who's going to play on the
- 34:40Speaker 10: west side?
- 34:40Speaker 5: Think?
- 34:41Speaker 6: I mean, I think he's realistic. I mean it's he's
- 34:43Speaker 6: definitely a different coach than Bill was. And I mean
- 34:45Speaker 6: we said, you know, all along we're talking about coaches
- 34:47Speaker 6: that there's different ways to do it, and this is
- 34:50Speaker 6: certainly going to be different. I mean, you know, personally,
- 34:53Speaker 6: I kind of had this experience in my sports playing career.
- 34:55Speaker 6: I played for coaches like Bill, I played for coaches
- 34:58Speaker 6: like Mayo, and for me personally, I got my best
- 35:00Speaker 6: performance out of coaches like Mayo. So we'll see.
- 35:04Speaker 5: I mean, I'm sure they're played to be coddled.
- 35:05Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 35:06Speaker 9: They were a sensitive artist type, right right, right?
- 35:08Speaker 6: No, no screaming at me. I mean, you know, Fred
- 35:10Speaker 6: and I just got yelled at all the time. Oh
- 35:12Speaker 6: yeah no, and that certainly, you know was my case
- 35:15Speaker 6: in college. But you know, I'm sure that there are
- 35:18Speaker 6: guys on this team that prefer that are going to
- 35:20Speaker 6: prefer Bill's style and the hard ass style, and you
- 35:22Speaker 6: know that certainly works for certain guys. But I just
- 35:25Speaker 6: think Mayo is fully cognizant that this all has to
- 35:27Speaker 6: come together. And as I said starting the recap yesterday,
- 35:31Speaker 6: it's about winning games. Like that they understand it, like
- 35:33Speaker 6: none of this matters if they win games. All the
- 35:35Speaker 6: stuff we talk about, you win games, a lot of
- 35:37Speaker 6: that stuff fault and if you lose, everything gets magnified.
- 35:40Speaker 6: I think he's aware.
- 35:40Speaker 5: Well, it's funny, you know. Yes, Bill was the coach
- 35:44Speaker 5: over the last four years, but during the last four
- 35:48Speaker 5: years it was Mac Jones who said I want to
- 35:50Speaker 5: be coached harder. Now.
- 35:51Speaker 4: I don't know if he was talking about Bill, I
- 35:53Speaker 4: doubt it, but he certainly was talking, probably about Patricia
- 35:57Speaker 4: at the time that he wanted hard coaching according to him.
- 36:02Speaker 6: I think it has a little bit of a different
- 36:03Speaker 6: meaning to me now in retrospect, knowing, you know, kind
- 36:06Speaker 6: of what we know, what they were going through, and
- 36:09Speaker 6: it wasn't I mean now I kind of look at
- 36:10Speaker 6: it not as I want them to be harder on me.
- 36:13Speaker 6: I want it's more. I want them to know what
- 36:15Speaker 6: they're doing and to really you know, to turn the
- 36:17Speaker 6: screws to get it to where we need it to be,
- 36:19Speaker 6: you know, not yell at me when I make mistakes.
- 36:21Speaker 5: More.
- 36:23Speaker 6: There was just a lut going on the last couple
- 36:24Speaker 6: of years, and I mean it's interesting because it feels
- 36:27Speaker 6: like year three where we're like, all right, what's this
- 36:29Speaker 6: offense going to look like? For so long you guys
- 36:32Speaker 6: watch training camp Josh McDaniels, Tom Brady, the offense is
- 36:35Speaker 6: the offense. We know exactly what we're going to get.
- 36:38Speaker 6: And now we're third year in a row, new offense,
- 36:41Speaker 6: and it's it's probably changed right now more than it
- 36:44Speaker 6: has the last two years.
- 36:45Speaker 4: You know, this is going to be the most I
- 36:46Speaker 4: can't emphasize enough that this offense is starting from scratch.
- 36:50Speaker 6: Yeah, And I just think Evan's point about, you know,
- 36:53Speaker 6: where are they all going to meet? Like if the
- 36:55Speaker 6: offensive line can't do what Alex van Pelt wants them
- 36:57Speaker 6: to do, he said, I'm not going to try to,
- 36:59Speaker 6: you know, jam people into this scheme. So what does
- 37:02Speaker 6: it become then, you know, do they do they start
- 37:05Speaker 6: going more to the power and the gap schemes that
- 37:07Speaker 6: fit their personnel a little bit better. You know, do
- 37:10Speaker 6: they get away from more wide zone? Does that affect
- 37:13Speaker 6: you know, it's like if you pull a string a
- 37:15Speaker 6: thread out of this offense and it's like, well, we're
- 37:17Speaker 6: not we'rening my zone. We can't really do the bootlegs now.
- 37:19Speaker 6: And then all of a sudden, you know, you're kind
- 37:21Speaker 6: of left with just a skeleton of your playbook, and
- 37:24Speaker 6: you know, maybe maybe it'll be a good thing. Maybe
- 37:26Speaker 6: it'll force Alex van Pelt to be innovative and you know,
- 37:29Speaker 6: have to have to accommodate his players, to accommodate his
- 37:32Speaker 6: system to the players. But that's what we're gonna be
- 37:34Speaker 6: watching here. We've seen two training camps where the offense
- 37:38Speaker 6: has struggled and the players look miserable after the practice
- 37:40Speaker 6: and they have full periods where there's one completion and
- 37:43Speaker 6: you're like, this is a train wreck. I just I
- 37:46Speaker 6: just hope to God that it doesn't exist.
- 37:48Speaker 5: The most critical joint practice we've seen in a number
- 37:51Speaker 5: of years, where.
- 37:52Speaker 6: I think it'd be the most interesting.
- 37:53Speaker 5: You know, where you really need it to see what
- 37:57Speaker 5: what the status check is of the team, because.
- 37:59Speaker 6: Even last year in in Green Bay, and I think,
- 38:01Speaker 6: you know, I was more with the defense, seven was
- 38:03Speaker 6: the offense. But I think he'd tell you that it
- 38:04Speaker 6: might have been a little bit of fool's goal. Even
- 38:06Speaker 6: in that in that joint practice, some of the things
- 38:08Speaker 6: you saw where it felt like they were turning the
- 38:10Speaker 6: corner and you know, making some plays out there, it
- 38:13Speaker 6: never really materialized. And not even throw the Raiders the
- 38:16Speaker 6: year before, which I went back and looked at my
- 38:18Speaker 6: notes at that joint practice and they were really terrible
- 38:21Speaker 6: both days, but the end of practice eleven on eleven
- 38:25Speaker 6: two minute drill competitive portions, the Patriots I think scored
- 38:28Speaker 6: touchdowns on all their final drives of that day, which
- 38:32Speaker 6: again it was kind of man, I think they're terrible,
- 38:35Speaker 6: but wow, that was, you know, a good drive and
- 38:36Speaker 6: they're psyched and they put one in the end zone.
- 38:38Speaker 6: And maybe it's not as bad as we think it is.
- 38:40Speaker 6: It was as bad as we thought, Yeah it was.
- 38:42Speaker 7: It's so funny to look back now in hindsight those
- 38:45Speaker 7: Green Bay joined practices and how good Green Bay ended
- 38:48Speaker 7: up being and how bad the Patriots ended up being,
- 38:51Speaker 7: because you watch those practices in Green Bay and it
- 38:54Speaker 7: felt even like it felt like green The Patriots kind
- 38:57Speaker 7: of won the first day, Green Bay kind of won
- 38:59Speaker 7: the second day. But it was a back and forth competition,
- 39:03Speaker 7: and the Packers ended up going all the way to
- 39:05Speaker 7: the NFC Championship game. In the Patriots win four games and.
- 39:10Speaker 8: They went they went to the divisional round and they
- 39:13Speaker 8: finished five hundred. They're ten and ten on the season,
- 39:16Speaker 8: And to me, it's kind of illustrated how close it
- 39:21Speaker 8: can be, because I agree with Evan, I don't think
- 39:24Speaker 8: you know, based on what you guys reported from those practices,
- 39:27Speaker 8: I didn't think there was that much of a difference.
- 39:29Speaker 8: It's like you win a couple of games down the
- 39:31Speaker 8: stretch and you sneak in the playoffs at nine and eight.
- 39:33Speaker 8: You're playing a little bit better down the stretch. Jordan
- 39:36Speaker 8: Love was really bad for three quarters of the season.
- 39:38Speaker 8: He was great at the end, to the point now
- 39:41Speaker 8: people were talking about him. He might become the highest
- 39:43Speaker 8: paid player of football, you.
- 39:44Speaker 6: Know, within a week.
- 39:45Speaker 8: So it to me, it's just kind of like how
- 39:48Speaker 8: close good and bad is now?
- 39:52Speaker 9: Great and bad is a big gap.
- 39:54Speaker 8: Like to me, there's a big gap between San Francisco
- 39:57Speaker 8: and Kansas City, and you know, those teams and.
- 40:01Speaker 9: Where the Patriots were a last ship.
- 40:02Speaker 8: But I don't think there's a big gap between middle
- 40:05Speaker 8: of the pack Green Bay and the Patriots, and I
- 40:07Speaker 8: think the Patriots could get there with you know, some
- 40:10Speaker 8: development from their young quarterback, just like Jordan Loved it.
- 40:12Speaker 7: I mean, Jordan Love did not tear up those practices
- 40:15Speaker 7: against the Patriots by any means. He had the flashes
- 40:18Speaker 7: of the arm, talent and things like that, but it
- 40:21Speaker 7: wasn't anything crazy where we came away from Deuce and
- 40:25Speaker 7: I came away from those practices. And that's something that
- 40:28Speaker 7: I'm reminding myself just with this team and with Drake
- 40:30Speaker 7: May and everything. Is a lot of this stuff that
- 40:33Speaker 7: happens in training camp, just it doesn't end up going
- 40:36Speaker 7: that way during the season, as much as we love
- 40:38Speaker 7: covering it.
- 40:39Speaker 10: And I feel c. J. Stroud is another great example.
- 40:43Speaker 10: If you watched him in the preseason and thought that
- 40:45Speaker 10: he was going to be where he was at the
- 40:47Speaker 10: end of the season, like props were you for having
- 40:50Speaker 10: that ability to envision that. But I was not seeing that.
- 40:52Speaker 7: When I saw him.
- 40:53Speaker 9: No, certainly not. And I should correct myself.
- 40:55Speaker 8: Ten and nine, yeah, because they were nine and eight
- 40:57Speaker 8: and they won and one of the player.
- 40:59Speaker 7: Yes, I should correct my self that they lost in
- 41:00Speaker 7: the Niners.
- 41:01Speaker 5: Speaking of Shroud, he was recently on a podcast or
- 41:04Speaker 5: something and said that he thought Drake May is the
- 41:06Speaker 5: most pro ready quarterback of the rookie class.
- 41:10Speaker 9: Yeah, I thought.
- 41:11Speaker 7: What was great about the comments that he made too,
- 41:13Speaker 7: if you're a Patriots fan wanted to be optimistic, was
- 41:15Speaker 7: he was talking about Drake May's poise in the pocket
- 41:18Speaker 7: and his ability to move in the pocket. And he
- 41:20Speaker 7: said that when he first started in the NFL, CJ.
- 41:23Speaker 7: Stroud he was moving around too much and causing pressure
- 41:27Speaker 7: where there wasn't pressure and things like that. And he
- 41:29Speaker 7: said that he watched Drake May at North Carolina. He's
- 41:32Speaker 7: composed and calm and poised with his movement and only
- 41:36Speaker 7: moving when he absolutely had to and scrambling when he
- 41:39Speaker 7: absolutely had to. So those were some of the things
- 41:41Speaker 7: that you saw in the draft that made you excited.
- 41:44Speaker 7: And you talk about how bad the offensive line is
- 41:47Speaker 7: to some people, But if he can handle the conditions
- 41:51Speaker 7: like he did at North Carolina the same way in
- 41:53Speaker 7: the pros, which I get is a step up. But
- 41:55Speaker 7: if he can do the same type of thing, then
- 41:57Speaker 7: maybe the line isn't as bad because they have a
- 41:59Speaker 7: quarter that can make up for it.
- 42:01Speaker 10: I also want to say too that when I think
- 42:03Speaker 10: of when I look at the Stroud situation, it gives
- 42:05Speaker 10: me the ability to be more patient because it's like,
- 42:08Speaker 10: even if May comes out and he's plays like c. J.
- 42:11Speaker 10: Stroud did and he's preseason games, that's not mean it's
- 42:14Speaker 10: the end all be all and you should just sit
- 42:16Speaker 10: him and not play him the whole season. Like it's
- 42:18Speaker 10: not gonna just blow up his whole season if he
- 42:20Speaker 10: plays bad in the preseason. So I think we need
- 42:23Speaker 10: to have patients regardless of what we see. sALS training hide.
- 42:27Speaker 4: You can email the show web radio at Patriots dot Com.
- 42:29Speaker 4: Is the email address in Andre for New Jersey does so.
- 42:33Speaker 4: He says, if Bill was the coach for this season,
- 42:35Speaker 4: will Judon and Gotcha get an extension by now? And
- 42:38Speaker 4: would we be seeing a rookie left tackle out there
- 42:40Speaker 4: instead of May?
- 42:42Speaker 5: What do he mean?
- 42:43Speaker 6: See some good questions there? Because Bill obviously loves the
- 42:45Speaker 6: defense he gave He's given what Gotshaw two contracts. Ye,
- 42:48Speaker 6: I don't think you would have given him another way? Yeah,
- 42:50Speaker 6: it might be a little asking, a little much but
- 42:52Speaker 6: I do wonder on Judah because he's an outside linebacker,
- 42:55Speaker 6: and so I hold in last year.
- 42:57Speaker 8: Yeah, I don't think that they would have given him
- 42:59Speaker 8: an extension, But I also don't think the other guys,
- 43:01Speaker 8: all of them. Some of them might have, but all
- 43:03Speaker 8: of those other guys wouldn't have gotten him, and I
- 43:05Speaker 8: think that's what's led to this.
- 43:06Speaker 6: Yeah, No, I don't think Bourne would have. I mean,
- 43:09Speaker 6: I would say probably most of them. I mean, it's
- 43:11Speaker 6: easy to make a case for just about all those.
- 43:13Speaker 6: Hunter Henry is one that I just there's nobody on
- 43:15Speaker 6: the market.
- 43:15Speaker 8: Henry would be would would have been resigned in my opinion, Yeah,
- 43:18Speaker 8: me too. I don't think Stevenson would have gotten his.
- 43:20Speaker 8: I'm talking about extensions now. Stevenson I don't think would
- 43:23Speaker 8: have gotten it. Barmore might have. Barber might have gotten.
- 43:27Speaker 8: You're getting a year ahead of the detach and especially
- 43:31Speaker 8: like it didn't like that deal was very team friend.
- 43:35Speaker 6: But would Bill had gotten ahead of it? And that's
- 43:37Speaker 6: the thing that it kind of fallen generally in recent
- 43:40Speaker 6: years though, I mean, guys were getting to their contract.
- 43:43Speaker 8: And this gets back to you a thing that you
- 43:44Speaker 8: always say, Mike. In recent years he hasn't had guys
- 43:46Speaker 8: that would have been worthy of that right, you know,
- 43:49Speaker 8: because the draft has been so.
- 43:50Speaker 7: But I also feel like he's missed the boat on
- 43:53Speaker 7: some of it to an extent where in the past
- 43:56Speaker 7: he would be ready to replace that guy with the
- 43:58Speaker 7: next player and hasn't drafted as well. Kyle Duggar to me,
- 44:03Speaker 7: would have been here on the franchise tag for this year,
- 44:07Speaker 7: especially after the season we saw from map Who. I
- 44:09Speaker 7: just don't think map Who's ready to be a starting
- 44:12Speaker 7: safety in the league. So maybe Kyle Duger is here
- 44:14Speaker 7: for one more year on the tag, but I don't
- 44:16Speaker 7: think his plan was to give Kyle Dugger a multi year.
- 44:19Speaker 4: Spaking of Bill, Andre also says he thought it was
- 44:23Speaker 4: idiotic for Kyle Shanahan to offer Belichick a job on
- 44:26Speaker 4: the coaching staff, knowing he just wants to be a
- 44:28Speaker 4: head coach.
- 44:29Speaker 5: I didn't think it was idiotic.
- 44:30Speaker 9: I don't think it's I mean, Kyle.
- 44:31Speaker 5: The Shanahans have a history with Bill.
- 44:35Speaker 4: Mike Shanahan came to Bill's defense during Spygate, and Bill
- 44:39Speaker 4: came to Mike Shanahan's defense when he didn't have a
- 44:41Speaker 4: job and said, I can't believe Mike Shanahan doesn't have
- 44:43Speaker 4: a job in the NFL. Kyle Shanahan just said the
- 44:47Speaker 4: same thing about Bill, So it makes sense. And listen,
- 44:50Speaker 4: if I was Kyle Shanahan and Bill wanted to be
- 44:52Speaker 4: on my staff, would do whatever. Come on coming on
- 44:56Speaker 4: once a week, I'll build you a house.
- 44:58Speaker 6: Tell me what you see, give what are your points
- 45:01Speaker 6: of emphasis for this game? We got the rest, right.
- 45:03Speaker 7: That was how it was presented from Kyle Shanahan's perspective too,
- 45:07Speaker 7: was he literally called Bill and said whatever you want.
- 45:10Speaker 7: You can do whatever you want, Like, we'll pay you
- 45:12Speaker 7: to do whatever you want to do. Whether it's defensive coordinator,
- 45:15Speaker 7: it's just an advisor role, like whatever it is, there's
- 45:18Speaker 7: a job for you here.
- 45:19Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 45:19Speaker 8: I like to take shots at Evans boy Shannahan, but
- 45:22Speaker 8: I think it would have been negligent. Yeah, given his
- 45:24Speaker 8: relationship with Belichick, right, Like, I'm not just telling you
- 45:27Speaker 8: every guy in the league should have called Bill Belichick
- 45:29Speaker 8: and said, would you like to be a consultant. The
- 45:31Speaker 8: Shannahans are different. I think it would have been negligent
- 45:34Speaker 8: for him not to at least ask. I mean, I'm
- 45:36Speaker 8: sure Mike Vrabel wishes he was a head coach. Yeah,
- 45:39Speaker 8: he considers himself a head coach. He took a consultant job, yeah,
- 45:42Speaker 8: with Cleveland. And I know that Belichick is not Rabele.
- 45:45Speaker 8: I'm not equating the two, but I'm just saying, you
- 45:47Speaker 8: don't know if you don't ask. And he has a
- 45:49Speaker 8: great relationship with Belichick.
- 45:51Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah. I mean you see coaches do that all
- 45:54Speaker 5: the time. I mean.
- 45:57Speaker 4: Dom Capers did it with us. Yeah, Like you know,
- 46:00Speaker 4: he wanted to be a head coach or a DC,
- 46:03Speaker 4: but he took a job with us just to stay
- 46:05Speaker 4: in the game, you know, to stay to stay relevant.
- 46:10Speaker 4: It happens all the time now. Like you said, Paul
- 46:12Speaker 4: Bill's a whole different thing.
- 46:13Speaker 8: Yeah, and I completely acknowledge that that Bill's you know,
- 46:17Speaker 8: a level of accomplishment, you know, dwarfs anybody else's right.
- 46:22Speaker 5: But no, I don't think it was idiotic at all.
- 46:24Speaker 5: I think it was why not ask? Why not ask?
- 46:29Speaker 5: All right?
- 46:29Speaker 4: So we see UH offense on one side, defense on
- 46:33Speaker 4: the other. It's still kind of going through you know,
- 46:36Speaker 4: unit drills i'd call it.
- 46:38Speaker 6: Yeah, still positionals ju Ju and Osborne leading things off
- 46:41Speaker 6: for the receivers. I I don't know, maybe I'm just
- 46:45Speaker 6: I'm an overly optimist. I don't. I just like watching
- 46:47Speaker 6: Javon Baker. I just I'm intrigued by him. I know
- 46:50Speaker 6: he's just running warm ups, but the way he moves
- 46:53Speaker 6: it's just a little bit different to me. I really, we.
- 46:55Speaker 5: Didn't and it got to look like the thumb is
- 46:57Speaker 5: bothering him at all. No, it doesn't seem like.
- 46:59Speaker 6: It seems like he's okay healthy. I mean, we saw
- 47:02Speaker 6: a little bit of him in the spring and not
- 47:03Speaker 6: much in competitive team portions. He didn't really, but you know,
- 47:07Speaker 6: it's just when you look at this receiving core and
- 47:09Speaker 6: you know what they need, it's hard not to look
- 47:12Speaker 6: at the only guy you don't really have any sense
- 47:14Speaker 6: of yet be like, maybe he's the one. But I
- 47:16Speaker 6: just continue to think he has a little bit of
- 47:19Speaker 6: spring in his step that the other guys don't quite have.
- 47:22Speaker 6: So we'll see at that translate. I could be totally wrong,
- 47:25Speaker 6: But you just keep.
- 47:25Speaker 7: Hearing with him about keeping him on the tracks, like
- 47:29Speaker 7: can they keep the train on the tracks with him
- 47:31Speaker 7: and keep him on the program. It's not talent, Like
- 47:34Speaker 7: the talent is not an issue. This guy was committed
- 47:37Speaker 7: to Alabama, played at Alabama, tore it up at Central Florida.
- 47:42Speaker 7: Like he's a very talented football player, it's just about
- 47:45Speaker 7: can you keep him mentally locked in.
- 47:48Speaker 4: Another observation I've had, and I'm probably reading way too
- 47:51Speaker 4: much into it, but I just get the sense that
- 47:55Speaker 4: Brian Belichick feels confident out there. Yeah, like he really
- 47:58Speaker 4: knows what he's doing. He feels empowered to really coach
- 48:05Speaker 4: and not just be out there.
- 48:07Speaker 10: And I can't imagine how freeing it is to be
- 48:10Speaker 10: out of the shadows of your brother and dad.
- 48:11Speaker 5: Well not's some that.
- 48:13Speaker 4: Plus, I think you know, he's done it long enough
- 48:15Speaker 4: now where I think you would consider him a veteran
- 48:19Speaker 4: coach now. And I was watching him earlier, you know,
- 48:22Speaker 4: talking to some of the younger assistant coaches and telling
- 48:26Speaker 4: them what he, you know, wants them to do during
- 48:28Speaker 4: and he just looked confident. Now, again, that could be
- 48:31Speaker 4: just me reading into it, but I got that sense.
- 48:34Speaker 6: It's funny.
- 48:35Speaker 10: But I mean Fred too, I think it could be
- 48:37Speaker 10: he was injured like the first half of the majority
- 48:39Speaker 10: of the season, so actually being able to be out
- 48:41Speaker 10: there walking around and coaching on your two feet, yeah,
- 48:44Speaker 10: it probably means everything.
- 48:45Speaker 4: Yeah, last year he had that terrible accident, tore up
- 48:49Speaker 4: his knee and really couldn't get out on the field
- 48:51Speaker 4: at all.
- 48:51Speaker 5: Yeah, mid season, If that's.
- 48:54Speaker 6: It's funny, friend, I caught a little and you guys
- 48:55Speaker 6: can make fun of me, but I always and whenever
- 48:57Speaker 6: Bill's Football Life is on from two thousand and nine,
- 48:59Speaker 6: I got I gotta watch it. But the amount I
- 49:02Speaker 6: was my guy, thanks, But the amount that Brian Belichick
- 49:06Speaker 6: is in that it didn't really occur to me ever.
- 49:08Speaker 6: But man, he is by Bill's side through that all
- 49:11Speaker 6: the time thing, and you realize it's like, no, yeah,
- 49:14Speaker 6: it's we talk about nepotism all that, but it's like
- 49:16Speaker 6: this kid has been immersed in NFL football since he
- 49:20Speaker 6: was like ten years old, just like Bill was, so
- 49:23Speaker 6: he should really blossom here. And I just you know, look,
- 49:26Speaker 6: Bill Belichick is a legend here. I'm sure we'll do
- 49:29Speaker 6: something for him at some point when he retired, But
- 49:30Speaker 6: to still have a Belichick in the building, I still
- 49:33Speaker 6: think that's pretty cool.
- 49:34Speaker 5: Yeah, when when you know Steve was out with the players,
- 49:37Speaker 5: Brian would be right by Bill's hit with a notepad.
- 49:40Speaker 6: Yeah, and Bill's telling himself to write down and I mean,
- 49:44Speaker 6: you know what he's been privy to his whole life.
- 49:45Speaker 6: He knows exactly how his dad sees the game. And
- 49:48Speaker 6: you know, now as a young coach, he's really I mean,
- 49:51Speaker 6: I think it's just you get a chance to spread
- 49:52Speaker 6: your wings. You're out of the shadows, as as Van
- 49:54Speaker 6: Tamara said, and you know, being able to really become yourself.
- 49:58Speaker 6: I know he just had a baby too, so it's
- 49:59Speaker 6: you know, it's it's all coming together for him and
- 50:02Speaker 6: I'm glad he's here still. Ye all right, Well with
- 50:05Speaker 6: Bryl Peppers, there's my guy who just you know, full
- 50:09Speaker 6: of energy always, you know, standing on the field, and
- 50:11Speaker 6: you know, hey, we all got to have our favorites, right.
- 50:18Speaker 4: Caleb writes in from Knoxville. He says it's great to
- 50:21Speaker 4: see the first ever volunteer get a gig at head
- 50:24Speaker 4: coach in the NFL. Talking about Gerard Mayo, of course,
- 50:27Speaker 4: I will follow that up with saying I don't have
- 50:29Speaker 4: much faith.
- 50:30Speaker 5: Frankly, when I think.
- 50:32Speaker 4: About what the end game looks like with Mayo, I
- 50:34Speaker 4: can't think of anything outside of him being a bridge
- 50:37Speaker 4: head coach. My question, what do you think the end
- 50:41Speaker 4: game for Mayo and Patriots look like, we really believe
- 50:44Speaker 4: he is going to lead this team to the AFHC
- 50:46Speaker 4: Championship Game or Super Bowl in the next four or
- 50:48Speaker 4: five years. Let's be honest. He has never been anything
- 50:51Speaker 4: more than a linebacker assistant coach.
- 50:53Speaker 6: Yeah, but how many coaches in the NFL can you
- 50:55Speaker 6: say that about right now? Do you feel confident that
- 50:57Speaker 6: they have what it takes to be I mean, there's
- 50:59Speaker 6: what five coaches and they don't just grow on trees
- 51:01Speaker 6: like so, I don't know. I'm not gonna sit here
- 51:04Speaker 6: and write what the end of the Jirab Mao era
- 51:06Speaker 6: is going to look like on day one. Uh, you
- 51:08Speaker 6: can believe whatever you want. I understand why people might
- 51:11Speaker 6: not have a lot of faith in him, you know,
- 51:13Speaker 6: given his experience and you know, maybe his overall kind
- 51:16Speaker 6: of football knowledge, especially on the offensive side of the
- 51:18Speaker 6: ball that's so important right now. But I think that
- 51:21Speaker 6: he's a guy who's been waiting for this chance. Clearly
- 51:24Speaker 6: the ownership believes in him. It's personally I like the guy.
- 51:29Speaker 4: But I think things have changed a little bit in
- 51:32Speaker 4: the NFL, where I think back in the day, it
- 51:34Speaker 4: was very hard for a first time head coach to
- 51:37Speaker 4: have success and maybe their first stint, maybe it took
- 51:40Speaker 4: them a couple of stints.
- 51:42Speaker 5: But I think you're seeing a lot.
- 51:43Speaker 4: Of these young guys McVeigh Shanahan, not that Shanahan has
- 51:46Speaker 4: won a Super Bowl, but have success early on. The
- 51:49Speaker 4: kid with the Vikings, Uh yeah, I mean they're having
- 51:53Speaker 4: success at least winning games early on. And Mike McDaniel, Yeah,
- 51:58Speaker 4: So I don't think it's out of it's it's not
- 52:01Speaker 4: out of the ordinary anymore for first.
- 52:04Speaker 5: Time head coaches to have that seat. Those guys have quarterbacks.
- 52:08Speaker 10: I feel like Dan Campbell is a good example. It's
- 52:11Speaker 10: like everyone watch Hard Knocks and he's laugh at him
- 52:12Speaker 10: and you're like, this guy's not gonna be terrible, and
- 52:16Speaker 10: then look at them now.
- 52:17Speaker 5: And he's from the defensive side of the ball to
- 52:19Speaker 5: which is a good si.
- 52:20Speaker 7: An offensive coach. Dan Campbell played tight end. Why did
- 52:24Speaker 7: I think he was alignment.
- 52:25Speaker 6: Because he spits It.
- 52:27Speaker 7: Looks like but the Lions are such a great example,
- 52:30Speaker 7: because Frank, I don't think Dan Campbell is a great coach.
- 52:33Speaker 7: I think he's a great motivator. I don't think he's
- 52:35Speaker 7: a great coach, but but it is a good leader.
- 52:37Speaker 7: I said, it is a great motivator, but at the
- 52:40Speaker 7: same time, their roster now is loaded and that's why
- 52:43Speaker 7: it comes back. It's Elliott Wolf, like I drave Mayo
- 52:46Speaker 7: can do what he does, but like it comes down
- 52:49Speaker 7: to can they get the personnel right? Like, like there
- 52:51Speaker 7: might win games if they have good personnel.
- 52:53Speaker 8: To Mike's point, you know, he's you know, how many
- 52:56Speaker 8: coaches around the league do you feel all that confident?
- 52:58Speaker 9: And I and I kind of agree with it.
- 52:59Speaker 8: I think are some of the you know, like McVeigh, Shanahan, Reid, Harball,
- 53:04Speaker 8: you know.
- 53:04Speaker 9: I put those guys in.
- 53:05Speaker 8: Those are guys that I have faith in if I'm
- 53:07Speaker 8: their fans of their teams. Yeah, but there are a
- 53:10Speaker 8: lot of really good teams that are Super Bowl contenders
- 53:12Speaker 8: that I'm not necessarily like Sean McDermott, Like, I think
- 53:15Speaker 8: Buffalo is really good, but I'm not sure he's a
- 53:18Speaker 8: great coach. Cincinnati, I'm not sure Zach Taylor is a
- 53:20Speaker 8: great coach. Yeah, I'm not telling you these guys stink,
- 53:23Speaker 8: but I don't. I don't put them you know, in
- 53:27Speaker 8: a in a battle of wits one on one with
- 53:29Speaker 8: Andy Reid or or Shanahan or or McVeigh. I don't
- 53:32Speaker 8: think that they're necessarily going to win that battle. In
- 53:34Speaker 8: Detroit's another great example.
- 53:36Speaker 10: I think Demiico Ryans too. I think that you could
- 53:38Speaker 10: have probably written him off early and been like, what's
- 53:41Speaker 10: he going to do with this Texans team? Like is
- 53:43Speaker 10: he going to be able to take CJ. Stroud to
- 53:45Speaker 10: the next level? And I think now, especially with the
- 53:47Speaker 10: additions they have of you know, Stefan Diggs, I'm interested
- 53:49Speaker 10: to see what their offense looks like. But Bobby, Bobby,
- 53:52Speaker 10: he definitely didn't get hired and you were immediately like
- 53:54Speaker 10: that that team is going to the super Bowl.
- 53:56Speaker 7: Yeah. I mean Demiko Ryans was a heralded assistant coach
- 54:00Speaker 7: for many using many cycles, three cycles. Yeah, but all
- 54:05Speaker 7: those coaches, you know, it's all about the coordinators too,
- 54:08Speaker 7: like Bobby Slow, which you know, and of course I'm
- 54:12Speaker 7: blanking on the guy and in Detroit, but Ben Ben Johnson,
- 54:15Speaker 7: thank you. Those two guys go to head get head
- 54:18Speaker 7: coaching jobs in a year whatever. Who knows what those
- 54:22Speaker 7: offensives are going to look like in this We've seen
- 54:24Speaker 7: it in Buffalo that they have taken a little bit
- 54:26Speaker 7: of a step back, subscrying Daviles left. So a big
- 54:30Speaker 7: part of this to me is not necessarily about is
- 54:32Speaker 7: it Gerrod Mayo? It's is it Elliot Wolf? Is it
- 54:35Speaker 7: Alex Van Pelt? Is it Drake may Like? Are these
- 54:37Speaker 7: the right guys in those positions? Because I think Gerrod
- 54:40Speaker 7: can lead a football team. I mean he did it
- 54:42Speaker 7: as a player. I think he can do it as
- 54:43Speaker 7: a coach. It's it's just a matter of are they
- 54:46Speaker 7: going to have the other pieces in place to be successful?
- 54:49Speaker 6: Yeah, hey, real quick, just you know, we're getting into
- 54:51Speaker 6: a little bit of of you know, defense overall. But gotcha,
- 54:55Speaker 6: Judon both seem to be participating in these Oh that's great.
- 54:58Speaker 8: That's why there's still position trills stuff.
- 55:00Speaker 9: They haven't done anything to yether.
- 55:01Speaker 6: Was this the stuff? They weren't sitting ou lat year
- 55:03Speaker 6: they woud they would still do.
- 55:03Speaker 8: This stuff like this isn't the stuff though? No, when
- 55:08Speaker 8: there's an offense on the other side, they've generally yeah,
- 55:11Speaker 8: the teams watching, Yeah.
- 55:13Speaker 4: Tim and Hubbardston right in what's your favorite training camp
- 55:16Speaker 4: memory of all time? It can be as a fan
- 55:18Speaker 4: or employee.
- 55:19Speaker 6: Mike, this has got you written all see now, it's
- 55:21Speaker 6: like too many, too many things going through my head.
- 55:26Speaker 6: There's probably a couple and I might come up with
- 55:28Speaker 6: a better one. But last year at Green Bay, I
- 55:31Speaker 6: mean just being in Green Bay. And then I think
- 55:34Speaker 6: I've said before like there are two fields that are
- 55:36Speaker 6: separated by a fieldhouse in the middle. So we go,
- 55:38Speaker 6: we're warming up on a field closer to Lambeau. It's
- 55:41Speaker 6: just the Patriots doing their usual thing. It's kind of quiet,
- 55:44Speaker 6: and then all right, they're ready for you. And we
- 55:46Speaker 6: walked through the middle and it was like, all of
- 55:50Speaker 6: a sudden, you're walking into a pack stadium, like not stadium,
- 55:53Speaker 6: but you know, past hostiles. The music's blaring, and it's
- 55:57Speaker 6: just like starting eleven on one end, starting twelve a D,
- 56:00Speaker 6: starting eleven D on the other end, and they just
- 56:02Speaker 6: walked right on the field and I was like, this
- 56:03Speaker 6: is awesome. Like the fans were into it. It was intense,
- 56:07Speaker 6: like there was no time to take it in. It
- 56:08Speaker 6: was just like they literally just walked right onto the
- 56:10Speaker 6: field and started going eleven on eleven. That was just
- 56:13Speaker 6: really really fun.
- 56:14Speaker 5: But that's cool.
- 56:15Speaker 9: That's a good one.
- 56:15Speaker 5: Yeah. Fine.
- 56:17Speaker 4: Most of my kind of fondest memories I think come
- 56:20Speaker 4: from Bryan College.
- 56:22Speaker 9: Getting your Dell's Lemonades go Fossil.
- 56:25Speaker 4: You know, just watching Parcels coach guys one on one,
- 56:30Speaker 4: Lawyer Maloya and ty Law coming over and just sitting
- 56:32Speaker 4: with us under the tent and just shooting.
- 56:34Speaker 9: Telling us they don't listen to Eric Mangini.
- 56:36Speaker 4: Yeah, those I think we were a little bit more
- 56:40Speaker 4: upp close and personal back then.
- 56:42Speaker 9: Definitely.
- 56:43Speaker 4: Yeah, So those are some of my best memories back
- 56:47Speaker 4: in Bryan College. I mean here it was always so like,
- 56:52Speaker 4: you know, don't do this, don't do that, so it
- 56:55Speaker 4: was different.
- 56:55Speaker 6: Yeah, I got one more I can share. It was
- 56:59Speaker 6: right after I got officially got the job, but I
- 57:01Speaker 6: couldn't start till like, you know, training camp started on
- 57:04Speaker 6: like Wednesday, but I couldn't officially start till Monday because
- 57:06Speaker 6: you know, I had to do orientation and stuff. So
- 57:08Speaker 6: I knew i'd gotten the job and Fred, you know,
- 57:10Speaker 6: they credentialed me, so like, oh, I'm gonna come watch
- 57:11Speaker 6: at least. But I remember just sitting on the side
- 57:14Speaker 6: and looking up and you know, seeing Paul and Eric
- 57:16Speaker 6: and Fred and Megan, you know, doing this live show
- 57:20Speaker 6: and knowing I was about to be part of it,
- 57:22Speaker 6: but I wasn't yet. You know so, and I remember
- 57:23Speaker 6: looking up at Paul, and Paul I kind of gave
- 57:25Speaker 6: me a little wave, and I'm like, oh my god,
- 57:28Speaker 6: he just gave me a little like, you know, I
- 57:30Speaker 6: just gave you a little hello, Paul, just just a
- 57:33Speaker 6: little wave. But but that was just cool knowing that, like, man,
- 57:37Speaker 6: I'm gonna actually be part of this now and and
- 57:39Speaker 6: you know, be part of that crew. And that was
- 57:41Speaker 6: that was a really cool moment too.
- 57:42Speaker 5: We look good, like from the distance sexy.
- 57:45Speaker 8: I think that's that's my distance, Fred, you know six levels.
- 57:50Speaker 9: I look well, you.
- 57:50Speaker 6: Guys were throw away. No, you were still down close
- 57:53Speaker 6: to the field. That was when you guys were still
- 57:54Speaker 6: doing it in the in the stand right right at
- 57:57Speaker 6: the end of the thing, so you were under the
- 57:58Speaker 6: little tent stuff. So I wasn't so I apologize that
- 58:00Speaker 6: I'd probably close to you. You still look good.
- 58:03Speaker 7: I remember my least favorite memory as a fan. I
- 58:07Speaker 7: was on the hill right here and someone accidentally landed
- 58:13Speaker 7: on Tom Brady's leg in.
- 58:15Speaker 8: The middle of practice. Was that a joint practice, I
- 58:17Speaker 8: don't think so. Maybe it was the knee brace.
- 58:21Speaker 7: Yeah, it landed on his leg and he goes down
- 58:23Speaker 7: in a heap, like just like he went down and
- 58:25Speaker 7: Bernard Pollard hit his leg and eighty and they were.
- 58:28Speaker 9: Playing joint practices against the Bucks that day.
- 58:31Speaker 7: And I was with some friends and all of us
- 58:34Speaker 7: are just freaking out right, They're all in and then
- 58:40Speaker 7: there was a helicopter that was circling above and I
- 58:44Speaker 7: was like, oh, no, like are they met backing out?
- 58:47Speaker 6: Like we were all just thought that what year was that?
- 58:50Speaker 6: Because I remember like reading it online that there was
- 58:52Speaker 6: like a scare.
- 58:53Speaker 8: It was definitely a scare. It wasting it. It was
- 58:57Speaker 8: like a like a half hour that people didn't know
- 59:00Speaker 8: exactly what.
- 59:01Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean it was. I remember seeing through the
- 59:05Speaker 7: all the trees, you know, all the people, and I
- 59:07Speaker 7: saw his knee buckle and him go to the ground,
- 59:10Speaker 7: and I thought for sure that he blew out his
- 59:12Speaker 7: knee again. And well, thankfully it was just a scare
- 59:15Speaker 7: and it they had nothing to do with that. But
- 59:17Speaker 7: I'll never forget that we were all just about to
- 59:20Speaker 7: you know.
- 59:21Speaker 8: I think Soldier may have gotten pushed back into Brady.
- 59:26Speaker 8: Yeah yeah, yeah, the details are escaping me. It may
- 59:30Speaker 8: not have been Tampa. I might be completely misremembering, which
- 59:32Speaker 8: is common for me. I think it was Tampa, But
- 59:35Speaker 8: I think it was Tampa. Say I want to say
- 59:37Speaker 8: Adrian Claiborne.
- 59:38Speaker 5: I think, okay, that's.
- 59:41Speaker 6: Who I was like, Oh, that's stupid guy.
- 59:43Speaker 9: But that was a that was a big thing. It
- 59:45Speaker 9: was like, oh is he is that?
- 59:47Speaker 6: Oh?
- 59:47Speaker 9: Like everybody was worried and.
- 59:49Speaker 8: He came out with a knee and he was like
- 59:51Speaker 8: sort of chastised for not having his knee brace on.
- 59:53Speaker 8: It is that the last time he didn't when I
- 59:55Speaker 8: think that was the last time he was out there without.
- 59:56Speaker 9: His brace.
- 59:59Speaker 4: Sam from Say Catherine's writes in just a quick response
- 1:00:02Speaker 4: to Mike stating that coaches don't grow on trees.
- 1:00:04Speaker 5: Coaches literally come from coaching trees.
- 1:00:07Speaker 6: Come on, that's pretty good, dang it. I walked right
- 1:00:10Speaker 6: into that, shout out Bradley Amos.
- 1:00:14Speaker 10: With Kendrick born down there.
- 1:00:16Speaker 7: Oh yeah, I saw cold strange walk out on the
- 1:00:19Speaker 7: field of the hoodie as well. So in his family,
- 1:00:21Speaker 7: he's doing some mental reps his baby.
- 1:00:25Speaker 10: Kendrick's new baby.
- 1:00:29Speaker 5: Uh Jake and Australia. Happy first day camp.
- 1:00:33Speaker 4: Everyone talks about their surprise cut, but who would you
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: pick as your surprise make not including Thornton because no
- 1:00:39Speaker 4: p he's done. I'm being biased in mind as I
- 1:00:43Speaker 4: really just wanted Aussie to finally make it to the NFL.
- 1:00:46Speaker 4: So Jotham Russell. Russell is my wishful surprise. Make that's interesting,
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: don't your surprise make?
- 1:00:54Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 1:00:55Speaker 7: Does Jalen Hawkins at this point qualify.
- 1:00:57Speaker 9: I don't think so.
- 1:00:58Speaker 7: We saw him too much in the spring probably for
- 1:01:00Speaker 7: him to qualify.
- 1:01:01Speaker 9: I mean, pick a guy.
- 1:01:04Speaker 8: It's one of the running backs. Fenwick was talking to
- 1:01:07Speaker 8: him up earlier.
- 1:01:08Speaker 10: Yeah, them, Caleb, I have a weird surprise, make one.
- 1:01:13Speaker 10: But I feel like we're gonna end up keeping all
- 1:01:15Speaker 10: four quarterbacks, even if even if two of them ended
- 1:01:18Speaker 10: up on the practice squad. Okay, that's my surprise, end
- 1:01:22Speaker 10: up keeping all four.
- 1:01:23Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean they don't really have the numbers to.
- 1:01:25Speaker 9: Practice practice squad squad?
- 1:01:27Speaker 5: Sure, yeah, because I know.
- 1:01:29Speaker 10: We talked a lot about will someone try to, you know,
- 1:01:31Speaker 10: trade for Zappi or will we cut them or you know,
- 1:01:33Speaker 10: what are we going to do with him? But it's
- 1:01:35Speaker 10: weird them all for sticking.
- 1:01:36Speaker 7: Around the way the rules are now at the emergency
- 1:01:39Speaker 7: quarterback there's really no incentive to carry three quarterbacks on
- 1:01:43Speaker 7: the fifty three unless you feel like all three guys
- 1:01:44Speaker 7: can play, because you can now elevate the player from
- 1:01:47Speaker 7: the practice squad and make him the emergency quarterback.
- 1:01:50Speaker 8: Which is funny that you bring this up, because that
- 1:01:52Speaker 8: was the whole thing last year the note day, I
- 1:01:54Speaker 8: had my roster projection and and basically it's all about
- 1:01:57Speaker 8: to me how they feel about May and are they
- 1:02:02Speaker 8: sort of comfortable with him playing whenever in the season
- 1:02:05Speaker 8: or do they want to sit him for a little
- 1:02:07Speaker 8: amount of time. We've talked about this all off season,
- 1:02:10Speaker 8: So if you don't want him to play, I think
- 1:02:12Speaker 8: you need to keep Zapi around right in case something
- 1:02:15Speaker 8: happens to percent if you don't want Drake May to play,
- 1:02:18Speaker 8: Otherwise they'll probably let go of Zapi. And I think
- 1:02:22Speaker 8: Milton goes to the practice squad for exactly the reason
- 1:02:25Speaker 8: that that Evan just said, Well, you would have thought
- 1:02:28Speaker 8: that I cut Tom Brady in year five. According to it,
- 1:02:32Speaker 8: you could put one one detractor on Twitter, and admittedly.
- 1:02:35Speaker 6: It was one, So I'm gonna call him out.
- 1:02:39Speaker 8: So what like, I just think that he's not necessarily
- 1:02:41Speaker 8: paying attention to what I wrote. He just looked at
- 1:02:45Speaker 8: it and said, well, that's that's absurd, and I'm like, no,
- 1:02:48Speaker 8: I wrote that this is all contingent on Drake May
- 1:02:52Speaker 8: and how fast they want him to play, and then
- 1:02:55Speaker 8: he's he follows back because someone else had written in saying.
- 1:02:58Speaker 6: That he didn't think Milton would make it either, and.
- 1:03:00Speaker 8: He attacked that guy saying, there's no way that arm
- 1:03:03Speaker 8: gets through waivers and he gets on the practice squad.
- 1:03:05Speaker 9: Now, it's like that Arm made it through.
- 1:03:07Speaker 8: Five plus rounds of the draft almost since you know what,
- 1:03:11Speaker 8: like so why like last year Bailey Zappi made it
- 1:03:14Speaker 8: through waivers after playing games as a rookie and winning them,
- 1:03:18Speaker 8: and he made it through through waivers. It's not like
- 1:03:21Speaker 8: out of the realm of possibility to get a guy through.
- 1:03:23Speaker 7: Waivers, right, Yeah, So many of those quarterbacks you have
- 1:03:25Speaker 7: to think about when you bring in a quarterback, you're
- 1:03:29Speaker 7: starting him from ground zero with your system and you're
- 1:03:32Speaker 7: you have to catch him up on the fly and
- 1:03:33Speaker 7: there's no practice time to do it. So unless you're
- 1:03:36Speaker 7: really sure that this is a either a desperation move
- 1:03:40Speaker 7: like last year at times when they bring in Nathan
- 1:03:42Speaker 7: Rourke or something like that, and the you know, those
- 1:03:45Speaker 7: desperation moves have to are one thing. But other than that,
- 1:03:48Speaker 7: you don't see teams pick up quarterbacks too often because
- 1:03:51Speaker 7: a period.
- 1:03:53Speaker 6: Sorry, but yeah, that is. But it was funny because
- 1:03:57Speaker 6: Alex Austin and Marco Wilson, who have been getting you know,
- 1:03:59Speaker 6: some looks, they were kind of over with the you know,
- 1:04:01Speaker 6: the top defense and then all of a sudden, overcome
- 1:04:04Speaker 6: Gonzales and j Jones and like, you guys are on
- 1:04:06Speaker 6: the other side.
- 1:04:06Speaker 8: So this is like, this is eleven on eleven if
- 1:04:10Speaker 8: you got Judon and gotcha both out.
- 1:04:12Speaker 4: I just want to let our viewers know that this
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: is a portion of practice that we can't have our
- 1:04:17Speaker 4: cameras on.
- 1:04:17Speaker 5: So that's why you're looking at us and not seeing
- 1:04:20Speaker 5: what's on the field.
- 1:04:21Speaker 8: Oh I thought it was because you wanted to see me.
- 1:04:23Speaker 7: So we have Big Mic at right guard currently not
- 1:04:28Speaker 7: at tackle, and Calvin Anderson playing.
- 1:04:31Speaker 5: But Judon is out there, so that's a good indication
- 1:04:34Speaker 5: that he is going to take part in team drills.
- 1:04:38Speaker 6: Godshaw as well.
- 1:04:39Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, we'll see. I'll see when Pat's come on.
- 1:04:43Speaker 8: But this is a good sign. But I think even
- 1:04:46Speaker 8: this stuff last year, I think that Judon did not
- 1:04:50Speaker 8: take part in Here's a guy to.
- 1:04:51Speaker 6: Highlight though, you know, real quick, O'Shane Emmenez who is
- 1:04:54Speaker 6: who is over on the right side field with you
- 1:04:57Speaker 6: know some of the guys that that you would consider
- 1:05:00Speaker 6: the iron of this defense right now, So maybe you
- 1:05:03Speaker 6: talk about a surprise guy him Arman Watts over there
- 1:05:06Speaker 6: as well, free agent signing from Pittsburgh who we can't
- 1:05:08Speaker 6: expect to, you know, replace some of what Lawrence guy.
- 1:05:11Speaker 5: Did poke with a catch.
- 1:05:14Speaker 7: Marcus Jones is playing the slot right now on defense,
- 1:05:18Speaker 7: but it looks like Drake may is he's over here,
- 1:05:22Speaker 7: He's gonna watch and then probably rotated with you. Cooleyber said,
- 1:05:26Speaker 7: you have Milton and Zappi with the two's on the
- 1:05:29Speaker 7: on the other field, so a little mental reps.
- 1:05:34Speaker 5: So right now Drake may is leap frog to be
- 1:05:37Speaker 5: the backup quarterback.
- 1:05:38Speaker 6: Let's mention for del Pettis too, del another guy over
- 1:05:41Speaker 6: there getting some looks with Peppers and Duggar.
- 1:05:44Speaker 4: Yeah, but back to Judon, you know there are a
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: lot of players have a philosophy when they're in his
- 1:05:53Speaker 4: situation that they can tell me that you know, we'll
- 1:05:57Speaker 4: work on it, but until it happens, I don't believe it.
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: Maybe this is a sign that Jude On has a
- 1:06:05Speaker 4: little bit more faith this year than last year that
- 1:06:07Speaker 4: we're gonna get something done, even though it hasn't happened yet.
- 1:06:10Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:06:11Speaker 6: Yeah, maybe it's a little past deflection. Ye pick Kyle
- 1:06:16Speaker 6: Duggar on the Star.
- 1:06:19Speaker 8: A nice played by Jonathan Jones. So yeah, that was
- 1:06:22Speaker 8: a bootleg. Godshaw came in car blanched to the middle
- 1:06:25Speaker 8: pressure Jacob were said into a rush throw tip interception.
- 1:06:29Speaker 5: So start starts unless you're rooting for the offense.
- 1:06:36Speaker 6: Or you're being sarcastic hunter Henry, that's what he does.
- 1:06:41Speaker 6: That's lit all Yeah, check down him.
- 1:06:43Speaker 5: So as promised, they're starting from the up uphill side
- 1:06:49Speaker 5: of the field.
- 1:06:53Speaker 6: Yeah. So again, I mean you know that we talk
- 1:06:54Speaker 6: about how many receivers that they have. I guess it's
- 1:06:57Speaker 6: what twelve on the roster right now. And liberal rotation.
- 1:07:01Speaker 6: I mean, I think everybody's gonna get a chance and
- 1:07:03Speaker 6: a look and right now, just example, Juju Thornton Polk
- 1:07:08Speaker 6: in the slot.
- 1:07:14Speaker 4: Any do you find it interesting that they went right
- 1:07:17Speaker 4: to the pass and they're not going to the running
- 1:07:19Speaker 4: game first.
- 1:07:20Speaker 7: They ran the ball in the first play.
- 1:07:24Speaker 6: Okay, yeah, yeah, nick Levertt another name kind of keep
- 1:07:28Speaker 6: an eye on new guys.
- 1:07:31Speaker 4: Speaking of an offensive lineman, Anthony from Hampton, Virginia says,
- 1:07:35Speaker 4: do you guys see that Trent Brown was put in
- 1:07:37Speaker 4: the NFI list for the Bengals, will not be there
- 1:07:39Speaker 4: for the beginning of camp, will allow Mimes to possibly
- 1:07:42Speaker 4: jump him in the starting left town.
- 1:07:45Speaker 6: By that, I mean I've heard. I mean, I don't
- 1:07:47Speaker 6: know what what trump.
- 1:07:49Speaker 4: I know a lot of people said we should have
- 1:07:51Speaker 4: kept him as a band aid for a year, but
- 1:07:54Speaker 4: this just goes to show you that they made the
- 1:07:56Speaker 4: right decision to move on glad to not have to
- 1:07:59Speaker 4: deal with him anymore.
- 1:08:00Speaker 8: I would agree wholeheartedly with that whole sentiment.
- 1:08:04Speaker 6: So you have the Drakes in the play action checkdown.
- 1:08:08Speaker 7: I'd like to know how the conditioning test went for
- 1:08:11Speaker 7: Trent Brown because it doesn't sound like.
- 1:08:13Speaker 6: It went well well.
- 1:08:13Speaker 8: NFI is conditioning test, just so you know, oh is it?
- 1:08:16Speaker 8: In general terms? It's not an injury. He probably didn't
- 1:08:19Speaker 8: pass the test. Now, I don't know what they do
- 1:08:21Speaker 8: in Cincinnati, Okay, And I'm not telling you that Antonio
- 1:08:24Speaker 8: Gibson failed the conditioning run here because I don't know
- 1:08:27Speaker 8: how Gerard Mayo does it either right, this is the
- 1:08:30Speaker 8: first time around for him.
- 1:08:32Speaker 4: Scott and Virginia writes, and I haven't seen much content
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: or discussion on Keon White. What role do you guys
- 1:08:38Speaker 4: see him playing this year? I feel if given the opportunity,
- 1:08:41Speaker 4: he will bring a whole other dominance to the front.
- 1:08:43Speaker 5: Seven.
- 1:08:43Speaker 7: Yeah, we talked about him a bunch in the spring.
- 1:08:46Speaker 7: Is somebody that Gerd Mayo highlighted as a guy that
- 1:08:48Speaker 7: impressed him coming into year two. He was out there
- 1:08:51Speaker 7: as the edge opposite of judaon on that first couple
- 1:08:56Speaker 7: of reps with the one, so they obviously see him all.
- 1:09:00Speaker 7: I think for him the biggest thing is is like,
- 1:09:02Speaker 7: what what is your dominant trade? Like, what what is
- 1:09:05Speaker 7: your spot that you dominated? What are you great at individually?
- 1:09:09Speaker 7: Because it's cool to be this versatile chess peas type
- 1:09:12Speaker 7: of player, but you got to be able to be
- 1:09:14Speaker 7: very good at one thing. I think he's still trying
- 1:09:16Speaker 7: to figure out exactly, you know, where he lives permanently
- 1:09:20Speaker 7: in the defense. But he was out there and he's
- 1:09:22Speaker 7: He's been out there a ton with the ones here
- 1:09:24Speaker 7: so far.
- 1:09:25Speaker 4: May had to bring the ball down and actually run
- 1:09:28Speaker 4: out of the pocket in that last play.
- 1:09:30Speaker 9: It's not that I find interesting.
- 1:09:31Speaker 8: They you know, they swapping out personnel and they have
- 1:09:33Speaker 8: a second offensive line in there now. But the last
- 1:09:36Speaker 8: couple of reps with the four replacement offensive linemen, Big
- 1:09:40Speaker 8: Mike stayed out there at right guard.
- 1:09:42Speaker 9: He's just out.
- 1:09:43Speaker 8: This is the first play he's out now, you know,
- 1:09:46Speaker 8: with David Andrews and the rest of those guys that
- 1:09:48Speaker 8: were with the first group. So I thought I thought
- 1:09:50Speaker 8: that was interesting that he took a few extra reps.
- 1:09:52Speaker 9: Yeah, draw going nowhere.
- 1:09:58Speaker 6: It's that Harris.
- 1:09:59Speaker 4: I like the way make hints, you know, the exchange
- 1:10:03Speaker 4: with the running back impressive.
- 1:10:05Speaker 8: Good, good, good observation thread.
- 1:10:08Speaker 6: It's like pop Douglas, like you see like a running
- 1:10:10Speaker 6: condition experens down the end, unless it's like he's running
- 1:10:14Speaker 6: with one of the trainers down there far in. Looks
- 1:10:17Speaker 6: pretty ghast.
- 1:10:18Speaker 7: Guy's hands on his head. It is not a good sign.
- 1:10:22Speaker 6: That's a.
- 1:10:24Speaker 5: I wonder why he's doing that, trying to make him
- 1:10:26Speaker 5: go to rehab.
- 1:10:27Speaker 7: I hope it's not good.
- 1:10:29Speaker 6: What it looks like? All right, what we got here? Yeah,
- 1:10:34Speaker 6: So I mean today, it's like, who's on the right
- 1:10:36Speaker 6: field to me? That's what's interesting. You know what guys
- 1:10:38Speaker 6: are kind of getting some mix with with the quote
- 1:10:41Speaker 6: unquote starters play action there.
- 1:10:45Speaker 5: It is nice off platform. That's the off platform.
- 1:10:50Speaker 8: This is like what I'm talking about with him, and
- 1:10:53Speaker 8: I know that I'm going to over rate this all summer,
- 1:10:57Speaker 8: but he just makes that look so effortless, like it
- 1:11:00Speaker 8: it's a play action boot. He's gonna throw her on
- 1:11:02Speaker 8: the run. His feet are going to be in the
- 1:11:03Speaker 8: air when he's throwing it, and it's just looks better
- 1:11:06Speaker 8: it's on a line. When other guys that aren't as
- 1:11:10Speaker 8: athletic do that, it doesn't look like that.
- 1:11:12Speaker 6: He looks I mean we've seen him already. How many
- 1:11:14Speaker 6: practice we watched, We've seen him do it, you know,
- 1:11:16Speaker 6: three four times already, just look comfortable on the move,
- 1:11:19Speaker 6: being able to pull up throw the ball.
- 1:11:21Speaker 7: Yeah. That that's how it's on the whiteboard, right, like
- 1:11:23Speaker 7: hit the crosser off the play action. That that's exactly
- 1:11:26Speaker 7: how they drew draw it up and how it's supposed
- 1:11:28Speaker 7: to look.
- 1:11:29Speaker 6: Like feed juju.
- 1:11:30Speaker 7: Right, that was a nice, nice cut up there. That's
- 1:11:35Speaker 7: what you're looking a little bit, you know, Yeah, those
- 1:11:39Speaker 7: last two plays is that's that's how it's.
- 1:11:41Speaker 5: Supposed a little bit because people can't see.
- 1:11:43Speaker 7: So, yeah, you have outside zone, right, so you have
- 1:11:45Speaker 7: everybody moving forrizontally in a ninety degree to their left
- 1:11:49Speaker 7: or right, and and then you're setting up more ideally
- 1:11:51Speaker 7: cutback lanes through the middle of the field. And then
- 1:11:55Speaker 7: on the play before he fakes the wide zone, you know,
- 1:11:58Speaker 7: fakes the stretcher on blue legs off of it, they
- 1:12:00Speaker 7: send Juju on a cross or coming in the other
- 1:12:03Speaker 7: direction and he just hits Juju over the middle for completion.
- 1:12:06Speaker 7: So that's how it's gonna look when they try to
- 1:12:08Speaker 7: start to build this up and rep it over and
- 1:12:10Speaker 7: over again. Is you know, we're gonna run it. We're
- 1:12:12Speaker 7: gonna show you run. But really what they're doing is
- 1:12:14Speaker 7: they're trying to set up the pass plays off of
- 1:12:17Speaker 7: the action. To run is just more of a way
- 1:12:19Speaker 7: to keep the offense on schedule.
- 1:12:21Speaker 4: Get guys to commit. It opens up up the middle
- 1:12:24Speaker 4: of the field.
- 1:12:25Speaker 7: Yeah, the explosive plays are going to come in the
- 1:12:27Speaker 7: passing game. That's that's the goal. And you know, like
- 1:12:30Speaker 7: Paul said, all these actions where he's on the move,
- 1:12:34Speaker 7: you know, Drake may is on the move. It just
- 1:12:36Speaker 7: looks natural for him, and that's what makes it such
- 1:12:38Speaker 7: an intriguing marriage between system and quarterback is you know
- 1:12:42Speaker 7: he can do those types of things effortlessly, and that's
- 1:12:46Speaker 7: why it was a good fit.
- 1:12:47Speaker 4: In Van Pelt, Jared writes in from North Carolina, I
- 1:12:51Speaker 4: think people forgot how good our defense is. Plus we're
- 1:12:54Speaker 4: bringing Gonzo and judea on back from injury. I think
- 1:12:57Speaker 4: they'll be top five again.
- 1:12:59Speaker 5: Offensive we don't need a quarterback to save the day,
- 1:13:02Speaker 5: whether it's presett or may If the offense could just
- 1:13:04Speaker 5: score two or three times a game, we'll win a
- 1:13:07Speaker 5: lot of games.
- 1:13:08Speaker 4: Over the past couple of seasons, we've lost a lot
- 1:13:11Speaker 4: a bunch of one possession games because of some missed
- 1:13:13Speaker 4: key plays. Do you guys think I'm being delusional or
- 1:13:16Speaker 4: that this team can be sneakily good if you surprise
- 1:13:19Speaker 4: the NFL.
- 1:13:20Speaker 8: If you think that they can score two or three
- 1:13:22Speaker 8: times a game and win, then you're being delusional because
- 1:13:26Speaker 8: twenty points doesn't win a lot of games, just doesn't.
- 1:13:30Speaker 10: Now. Now, if you're looking at last year's games, there
- 1:13:33Speaker 10: were a few games if they would have just had
- 1:13:35Speaker 10: a pulse on offense, yes, they would have won them. Yeah,
- 1:13:38Speaker 10: one or two touchdowns, but overall, it's hard to win
- 1:13:41Speaker 10: in the NFL if you're not scoring thirty, right.
- 1:13:43Speaker 5: Well three, And just remember those games.
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: You know, the Colts were with Gardner Minshew, the Jets
- 1:13:49Speaker 4: were with.
- 1:13:50Speaker 5: Not they didn't have a quarterback, you know.
- 1:13:52Speaker 8: So once was Zach Wilson, once was Trevis Simeon. And
- 1:13:56Speaker 8: I'm not even saying like the defense isn't going to
- 1:13:59Speaker 8: do what you think the defense can do. They they
- 1:14:01Speaker 8: could definitely do that. I just think it's surprising that
- 1:14:04Speaker 8: you would say that people are overlooking a defense. I
- 1:14:06Speaker 8: think that's all anybody talks about.
- 1:14:07Speaker 4: That's We talked to Aaron Shatz yesterday on our show,
- 1:14:10Speaker 4: and his whole reasoning for the Patriots having seven games,
- 1:14:14Speaker 4: which is three seven wins, which is three more than
- 1:14:16Speaker 4: last year's because of the defense.
- 1:14:18Speaker 8: Right, And you could easily they could easily have won
- 1:14:20Speaker 8: seven games.
- 1:14:21Speaker 5: Last year easily easily, Yeah.
- 1:14:24Speaker 9: And not been any different of a team.
- 1:14:26Speaker 7: Yeah, Like yeah, I just feel like even if they
- 1:14:28Speaker 7: win games like that reminds me of twenty twenty two,
- 1:14:31Speaker 7: where they were in it technically until the end, right,
- 1:14:35Speaker 7: I mean, they could have won in Buffalo and made
- 1:14:37Speaker 7: the playoffs. Yeah, but was that team good? Like, was
- 1:14:40Speaker 7: that yeah a product.
- 1:14:41Speaker 4: That I'd rather win four games again this year and
- 1:14:44Speaker 4: end the season saying, Drake May had a good rookie season.
- 1:14:48Speaker 5: We got something to build on here than win seven
- 1:14:50Speaker 5: or eight. And it's just because of the defense, yeah,
- 1:14:54Speaker 5: and the offense.
- 1:14:55Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean exactly, Like if it's if it's fourteen
- 1:14:57Speaker 7: to thirteen and they win six seven games, winning fourteen thirteen,
- 1:15:01Speaker 7: it just doesn't it doesn't do it for me. I'm
- 1:15:04Speaker 7: not excited about that.
- 1:15:05Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:15:06Speaker 10: There were so many times where if we weren't playing
- 1:15:08Speaker 10: and I was watching other NFL games on TV, it
- 1:15:11Speaker 10: was so crazy to see like actual offenses being front points.
- 1:15:15Speaker 6: Being like I always let you know what I's crazy
- 1:15:17Speaker 6: when it hits me to matter.
- 1:15:18Speaker 8: It is when I'm watching a game and there's like
- 1:15:22Speaker 8: seven or eight minutes left and one team's maybe trailing,
- 1:15:26Speaker 8: and you're watching, You're like, oh, oh don't don't, oh
- 1:15:29Speaker 8: slow down. You don't want to score because not only
- 1:15:32Speaker 8: you know they're going to score to take the lead,
- 1:15:34Speaker 8: you know the other team's then going to score to
- 1:15:36Speaker 8: win it at the end, exactly. And you never have
- 1:15:38Speaker 8: that feeling when you're watching the Patriots games, and.
- 1:15:40Speaker 10: You don't want to turn the game off, like you
- 1:15:41Speaker 10: want to watch to see what's gonna happen because there's
- 1:15:43Speaker 10: so many between the elite wide receivers and the DB's
- 1:15:46Speaker 10: it's so much action happening. And then our games you
- 1:15:49Speaker 10: have to struggle to keep your eyes open.
- 1:15:51Speaker 7: And nice throw over there by Jacoby Brisset and seven
- 1:15:54Speaker 7: on seven trying to get a number I think is
- 1:15:56Speaker 7: Austin Hooper a little stick nod, so he's gonna like
- 1:15:59Speaker 7: fake like he's gonna he's gonna come up the seam
- 1:16:02Speaker 7: and he threw it right over Marty Map Who's year?
- 1:16:05Speaker 7: Really nice throw there?
- 1:16:06Speaker 6: Who is the back safety?
- 1:16:08Speaker 12: Do you know?
- 1:16:08Speaker 7: I didn't see who the back safety was? No, but
- 1:16:11Speaker 7: he squeezed it in there.
- 1:16:12Speaker 6: I see thirty two walking off. So it was fifteen
- 1:16:19Speaker 6: and thirty two. Yeah, I believe.
- 1:16:20Speaker 5: So, yeah, this is this is uh not even seven
- 1:16:24Speaker 5: on seven right now? Yeah? It is?
- 1:16:26Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 1:16:27Speaker 5: Oh is it?
- 1:16:27Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 1:16:30Speaker 5: Looks like there are only six guys on offense.
- 1:16:32Speaker 7: There is because the coach is the one snap.
- 1:16:34Speaker 5: Oh I see, I got you?
- 1:16:36Speaker 6: Okay, all right, he's complicated.
- 1:16:38Speaker 5: Centers need love to Yeah, even when they don't have
- 1:16:41Speaker 5: a jersey.
- 1:16:42Speaker 6: It's a six on seven. Yeah, coaches don't count.
- 1:16:46Speaker 7: It's been pretty involved in some of these, not all catches,
- 1:16:48Speaker 7: but he did make a nice catch on the hitch
- 1:16:52Speaker 7: targeted on the go route. So he continues to be
- 1:16:55Speaker 7: someone that that looks the part. I would say, it's
- 1:16:58Speaker 7: not super flashy, but he's out.
- 1:17:00Speaker 6: Here, gets his job done. And where has uh has
- 1:17:03Speaker 6: shaken Baker Man?
- 1:17:05Speaker 7: Yeah? I haven't seen him.
- 1:17:06Speaker 10: Is that your nickname?
- 1:17:06Speaker 7: Prim?
- 1:17:06Speaker 6: I don't know. It just came to me. Maybe we'll
- 1:17:08Speaker 6: see if it sticks.
- 1:17:10Speaker 5: Well.
- 1:17:10Speaker 6: He has to shake hi, bake somebody first before I
- 1:17:12Speaker 6: can be shaking Baker.
- 1:17:16Speaker 7: To Michael Petaway check, don't sleep on the Michael, don't
- 1:17:21Speaker 7: sleep on Maybe.
- 1:17:25Speaker 5: It's Tim says.
- 1:17:26Speaker 4: One of my favorite training camp memories when Brady was
- 1:17:28Speaker 4: signing autogreshs back when they used to do autograph alley.
- 1:17:31Speaker 5: They still do that.
- 1:17:32Speaker 4: My friend is an Eagles fan and wore his Michael
- 1:17:35Speaker 4: Vick jersey to the signing. Brady signed for everyone, then
- 1:17:38Speaker 4: looked at my friend and his Eagles jersey and purposely
- 1:17:41Speaker 4: skipped over him.
- 1:17:42Speaker 5: It was hilarious.
- 1:17:43Speaker 4: He was mad that Brady skipped him, but that's what
- 1:17:45Speaker 4: you get for doing for wearing that tree. That's so
- 1:17:48Speaker 4: Brady though, Oh yeah you know, but did you guys?
- 1:17:50Speaker 6: Sorry, fred, I didn't mean to cut you off. They
- 1:17:53Speaker 6: showed him signing jerseys, and then all of a sudden
- 1:17:55Speaker 6: there was an Eli Manning jersey and that he had
- 1:17:57Speaker 6: to sign that I guess was going back to Eli Manning.
- 1:17:59Speaker 6: So he just wrote a big f off, and then
- 1:18:02Speaker 6: Eli got it and laughed, and Eli wrote back a
- 1:18:05Speaker 6: good game.
- 1:18:06Speaker 8: So yeah, that's good, subtle little comeback.
- 1:18:10Speaker 7: I haven't seen Pop Douglas, who is off with Jim
- 1:18:13Speaker 7: Whale and the trainer doing some stuff, and hopefully that's
- 1:18:16Speaker 7: nothing serious. And I haven't seen Javon do anything either.
- 1:18:22Speaker 7: That might be Jon. He is all right, that's his
- 1:18:24Speaker 7: first rep.
- 1:18:25Speaker 8: Drake not looking at this little checkdown that not even
- 1:18:28Speaker 8: looking at him.
- 1:18:29Speaker 6: Don't even look out't look any shake and bake anybody
- 1:18:31Speaker 6: if you don't look out a.
- 1:18:33Speaker 7: Couple of checkdowns in this sequence from Drake Man. I
- 1:18:37Speaker 7: think we should outlaw checkdowns and settle.
- 1:18:40Speaker 9: It's just you should drive me crazy.
- 1:18:43Speaker 8: Brady very rarely would have any down periods in these drills,
- 1:18:47Speaker 8: but whenever he did, it'd be like maybe a pass
- 1:18:49Speaker 8: get picked and then maybe an incompletion you knew it,
- 1:18:52Speaker 8: like a shallow dump down or a cross er to
- 1:18:54Speaker 8: like Edelman was coming. Yeah, he was going to complete
- 1:18:57Speaker 8: the next pass no matter what.
- 1:18:59Speaker 6: Yep, pet Away with Juju Baker Juju andborn with Drake May.
- 1:19:10Speaker 7: There's a lot of these little underneath you know, sit routes,
- 1:19:13Speaker 7: return routes, things like that that they're throwing right now.
- 1:19:18Speaker 8: Bolden Bolden, that's a little strap down after that play.
- 1:19:24Speaker 6: Yeah. I like him. He's another one kind of keep
- 1:19:26Speaker 6: an eye on. I don't know how all these cornerbacks
- 1:19:28Speaker 6: are going to play out. Alex Austin, you know, seem
- 1:19:30Speaker 6: to come on. They seem to like him as a
- 1:19:31Speaker 6: guy who can play in the league.
- 1:19:32Speaker 8: Markets Bolden, Dial some of the undrafted guys, keep an
- 1:19:37Speaker 8: eye on them.
- 1:19:38Speaker 9: There's gonna be jobs to win.
- 1:19:40Speaker 7: I like the idea of those guys competing in the
- 1:19:43Speaker 7: slot too, to maybe give them some more size than
- 1:19:45Speaker 7: they've had with you know, Marcus Jones, Miles Bryant. Those
- 1:19:48Speaker 7: guys are Marcus Jones good matchup player in the slot.
- 1:19:51Speaker 7: But ideally, oh it's kind of step there. Okay, So
- 1:19:57Speaker 7: let's that one Jalener on a go ball from Drake
- 1:20:01Speaker 7: May one handed catch down the right sideline. That was
- 1:20:03Speaker 7: a bomb.
- 1:20:04Speaker 5: That was a good catch.
- 1:20:05Speaker 7: He was overthrown like maybe buy half a stride in
- 1:20:08Speaker 7: one headed catch.
- 1:20:09Speaker 6: We're allowed to throw the ball that far school, showing
- 1:20:12Speaker 6: you why he's a special Yeah, they're not going to
- 1:20:14Speaker 6: put that in the tweet, so well, it's a.
- 1:20:16Speaker 5: Former first round pick there, Paul, Come on, Yes, schooler
- 1:20:21Speaker 5: and school are and coverage and they're not going to
- 1:20:23Speaker 5: see that a lot.
- 1:20:23Speaker 8: That's why they hate us, and you don't. We don't
- 1:20:26Speaker 8: provide the proper context.
- 1:20:29Speaker 7: I'm going to put it in the tweet.
- 1:20:30Speaker 5: Was a nice kidding You're not going to see school
- 1:20:33Speaker 5: or in terrific lot.
- 1:20:34Speaker 6: I didn't think he's gonna catch up to it, that's why.
- 1:20:35Speaker 9: But terrific one hander.
- 1:20:39Speaker 6: Yeah, and and let's be honest, I mean Jalen Rager
- 1:20:42Speaker 6: pretty active in mini camp too. Yeah, for what it's worth,
- 1:20:45Speaker 6: got some balls going again to Pulk. See that's usually
- 1:20:51Speaker 6: catch Pulk makes.
- 1:20:52Speaker 5: Yeah, that was that was catchable. He dropped it in there.
- 1:20:55Speaker 4: That was very Thornton like between two defenders and that
- 1:21:00Speaker 4: is May, by the way, that was.
- 1:21:01Speaker 9: More difficult when you're covered.
- 1:21:04Speaker 8: Yeah, that's I mean, Marcella's dial good coverage on that rookie,
- 1:21:08Speaker 8: rookie rookie. But yeah, that's more than a few times
- 1:21:12Speaker 8: in those last year you see good JA time.
- 1:21:19Speaker 10: I saw I saw some Zappi Our t shirts in
- 1:21:22Speaker 10: the crowds.
- 1:21:23Speaker 5: Zappy Hour in Boston.
- 1:21:26Speaker 6: It actually was about an hour. That's it's now we're
- 1:21:31Speaker 6: on Maytime. May Day. Zaps kicks it out too. I
- 1:21:38Speaker 6: still don't got these running backs down yet. Jim Michael Hasty.
- 1:21:42Speaker 9: He's definitely comfortable as a receiver.
- 1:21:45Speaker 4: Yeah, aj And is in the from the Bay Area,
- 1:21:54Speaker 4: but he's in Providence. Wants to know what the training
- 1:21:56Speaker 4: camp schedule is for the weekend. Uh, well, it's Tomorrow, Friday,
- 1:22:01Speaker 4: and Sunday at eleven.
- 1:22:02Speaker 5: O'clock off day, Saturday, off day, Saturday open. Don't come
- 1:22:07Speaker 5: down Saturday.
- 1:22:08Speaker 6: No, but Gape's open at ten and there's Baker, isn't it's.
- 1:22:15Speaker 7: He's deep, comeback or out. Yeah, that's one thing that
- 1:22:18Speaker 7: I think he does well is finished through contact. Like
- 1:22:21Speaker 7: there's not a ton of contact out here right now.
- 1:22:23Speaker 7: But even if he doesn't create a ton of separation,
- 1:22:26Speaker 7: whether he's going you know, elevating to go above the
- 1:22:28Speaker 7: defense or just boxing somebody out. He's got a good frame,
- 1:22:32Speaker 7: plays with good strength. That's all over his college tape.
- 1:22:35Speaker 6: Too, say seven game the more run that the kid
- 1:22:41Speaker 6: David Wallace who made the team as like a tryout
- 1:22:43Speaker 6: guy in the slot. But this is everybody right now,
- 1:22:49Speaker 6: all the all the linemen and defensive front eyes are
- 1:22:52Speaker 6: over FKA Dante's inferno.
- 1:22:55Speaker 8: So that looked like a little bit of miscommunication with
- 1:22:57Speaker 8: Baker and yeah, Zappy. I think Zappy thought it was
- 1:23:00Speaker 8: going to be a back shoulder and okay, now see
- 1:23:03Speaker 8: I think Baker actually read it right because I thought
- 1:23:05Speaker 8: he had a step too.
- 1:23:06Speaker 6: When I kind of said like, hey, have you kind
- 1:23:08Speaker 6: of like this year when we were like looking at
- 1:23:09Speaker 6: Joe Milton for like you know, scouting, I'm like, huh,
- 1:23:12Speaker 6: he'd be kind of fun, like this is it right
- 1:23:13Speaker 6: now where I'm like, all right, four string reps, Like,
- 1:23:15Speaker 6: let's just Joe.
- 1:23:17Speaker 8: It's the fourth quarter of the preseason case yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:23:20Speaker 8: That's when I'm like, yeah, I'll.
- 1:23:22Speaker 6: Watch him to see him rip it right right right.
- 1:23:24Speaker 8: It's like that that drive that Malie Cunningham had last year.
- 1:23:27Speaker 9: I'll watch that.
- 1:23:28Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, yeah, we have a helicopters, just bringing back
- 1:23:33Speaker 8: bad memories seven the helicopter coming in and training camp.
- 1:23:36Speaker 6: Terrible Joe Milton, nice throw. It's a pretty I was
- 1:23:42Speaker 6: on time, yep. Pretty to uh come back to eighty two?
- 1:23:47Speaker 6: Key Shawan Harris, Hey you Jack Jackson? Oh the team anymore?
- 1:23:53Speaker 6: It'd be funny just keep throwing old names out there
- 1:23:55Speaker 6: early eighty two.
- 1:23:56Speaker 9: That was right, Keysho Harris.
- 1:23:58Speaker 6: And then wasn't your kid too that you were like
- 1:24:00Speaker 6: into the receiver?
- 1:24:03Speaker 9: He was seventeen dollars.
- 1:24:05Speaker 5: So the owner was on the field, so that must
- 1:24:07Speaker 5: be Jonathan.
- 1:24:09Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:24:09Speaker 10: He walked off about ten minutes ago.
- 1:24:11Speaker 5: Okay, we'll see.
- 1:24:12Speaker 7: If I got eyes.
- 1:24:12Speaker 6: They sent the chopper to get him.
- 1:24:14Speaker 10: Yeah, he walked off about ten minutes ago. It was
- 1:24:19Speaker 10: kind of sneaky, though, Fred, because when he walked out
- 1:24:21Speaker 10: he had on like that blue button up. But then
- 1:24:23Speaker 10: when he walked back this way, he had on a raincoat.
- 1:24:25Speaker 6: Oh is it raining out there.
- 1:24:28Speaker 10: Quite a little bit? I see a drop here and there?
- 1:24:31Speaker 6: Oh yeah, all right, here and there.
- 1:24:33Speaker 7: You saw you saw a schooler in coverage on Rager, right, Yeah,
- 1:24:37Speaker 7: it was absolutely school some say or some grousing in
- 1:24:40Speaker 7: the media tent about this, so oh so some say
- 1:24:43Speaker 7: is easy hear and some are saying, okay.
- 1:24:46Speaker 8: I would just I would just argue does it really matter?
- 1:24:48Speaker 8: But the guy that was closest to him running down
- 1:24:52Speaker 8: the sideline was schooling.
- 1:24:53Speaker 7: That's who I saw too, But maybe he was coming
- 1:24:55Speaker 7: over the top.
- 1:24:56Speaker 6: We're higher guys where we got the view.
- 1:24:58Speaker 5: As long as it wasn't Christian Goanzal.
- 1:25:00Speaker 8: I remember, I remember thinking that's Bubba vent trone forty one.
- 1:25:07Speaker 6: Joe Milton excited for a dump off pass there to
- 1:25:09Speaker 6: Hasty Pudding.
- 1:25:10Speaker 5: And it wasn't one hundred miles an hour.
- 1:25:12Speaker 10: It wasn't. I was gonna say that, Bred. I feel
- 1:25:14Speaker 10: like in those short passes, I feel like he struggles
- 1:25:16Speaker 10: because he doesn't know how to reel back on the power. Yeah,
- 1:25:19Speaker 10: but those actually were pretty good.
- 1:25:20Speaker 7: Yeah, he looked let's see the bring out the bazooka,
- 1:25:25Speaker 7: Joel Azoka.
- 1:25:26Speaker 6: Joe, he's got a unleashed one here, right, Yeah, at
- 1:25:28Speaker 6: some point, take a shot.
- 1:25:29Speaker 5: Guy, he's on the hill.
- 1:25:37Speaker 6: I believe I might be twenty nine, which is Dyrell Jennings.
- 1:25:41Speaker 5: At twenty nine.
- 1:25:42Speaker 7: That's who I saw earlier.
- 1:25:52Speaker 5: Milton's still at quarterback.
- 1:25:56Speaker 6: It's a nice throw, yeah, right on time. Hit the
- 1:26:00Speaker 6: crosser up.
- 1:26:01Speaker 7: They like that. Concepts like Phill O'Brien would call it inch.
- 1:26:05Speaker 7: I don't know what they call it. But you have
- 1:26:07Speaker 7: like a little hitch underneath, and then you have the
- 1:26:09Speaker 7: incut come right over the top of it, and it
- 1:26:11Speaker 7: high lows the hook defender there in the zone and
- 1:26:14Speaker 7: he kind of has to pick you know which one
- 1:26:17Speaker 7: is gonna cover. And you often see that incut.
- 1:26:20Speaker 5: Get it completed, all right, Matt morel Are we good
- 1:26:22Speaker 5: to take a break?
- 1:26:23Speaker 6: Oh, yes, we are.

- 1:31:10Speaker 4: the New England Patriots. All right, we're back here high
- 1:31:12Speaker 4: above the practice fields at Jillette Stadium. It's Fred Kurs,
- 1:31:15Speaker 4: Paul Perrillo, Mike Dussa, Evan Bazaar, Tamara Brown and you know, guys,
- 1:31:21Speaker 4: while we were at break the teams in eleven and eleven,
- 1:31:25Speaker 4: what did we.
- 1:31:25Speaker 6: See early down work? Some work on the running game,
- 1:31:29Speaker 6: some you know, base defense, you know, nothing too crazy
- 1:31:35Speaker 6: so far, getting some run fits going. I mean, I
- 1:31:38Speaker 6: think this is what we kind of anticipated, that they
- 1:31:39Speaker 6: were gonna put some work in the middle of the
- 1:31:41Speaker 6: field on the run game in early downs. And I
- 1:31:43Speaker 6: think that's what we're seeing a lot of rotation. But
- 1:31:47Speaker 6: you know, to Evan's point as we were getting back,
- 1:31:49Speaker 6: I mean, when you seems like a brief kind of
- 1:31:52Speaker 6: move to right tackle early in the OTAs and now
- 1:31:55Speaker 6: he just seems like he's settled back in the right guard,
- 1:31:57Speaker 6: which I'm all for. Like I did think that's where
- 1:31:59Speaker 6: he's the best. Then, you know, I think that's the
- 1:32:01Speaker 6: best fit. And if Calvin Anderson, you know who's getting
- 1:32:04Speaker 6: to look at the right tackle right now more athletic.
- 1:32:07Speaker 6: I mean, of all the players on the roster. Grant,
- 1:32:10Speaker 6: he's not playing left tackle, but he's played more left
- 1:32:12Speaker 6: tackle snaps I think in the NFL than anybody else,
- 1:32:15Speaker 6: So he can move a little bit and I think
- 1:32:17Speaker 6: he probably fits a little bit more into you know
- 1:32:19Speaker 6: what Evan's saying. If as a right tackle who can
- 1:32:22Speaker 6: move his feet, get out there, and you know, maybe
- 1:32:24Speaker 6: he's a better fit. And that's why he's getting to.
- 1:32:26Speaker 9: Look right now.
- 1:32:27Speaker 7: Yeah. It just you're one hundred percent right, and I'm
- 1:32:30Speaker 7: I'm grousing about things I probably shouldn't grouse about. But
- 1:32:33Speaker 7: when you tell us in March and April that he
- 1:32:37Speaker 7: signed Mike on Winnu because he was the top right
- 1:32:39Speaker 7: tackle on the market, and then we're out here day
- 1:32:41Speaker 7: one a training camp and he's playing right guard, where
- 1:32:43Speaker 7: he should have been playing all along and is his
- 1:32:45Speaker 7: natural position. It's like, well, then you didn't sign a
- 1:32:48Speaker 7: top free.
- 1:32:48Speaker 6: Agent tackle like it just yeah, the.
- 1:32:51Speaker 7: Whole position was just didn't make any sense to begin with,
- 1:32:54Speaker 7: and us Layman's could see it from a mile away
- 1:32:56Speaker 7: that this was not going to work. And now we're
- 1:32:58Speaker 7: already out here on day one and doesn't work and
- 1:33:00Speaker 7: that that that's the part to me that's frustrating about it.
- 1:33:03Speaker 7: It's obviously the right decision, but it just how we
- 1:33:07Speaker 7: got here, Like, we didn't have to do that whole thing.
- 1:33:09Speaker 7: Mike on Win, who's the right tackle. He comes in
- 1:33:11Speaker 7: in the spring, he tells us he's getting ready for
- 1:33:14Speaker 7: the season to play at right tackle, and then here
- 1:33:16Speaker 7: we are, like what was the point of that?
- 1:33:18Speaker 6: So that first one with Drake Mayon just to kind
- 1:33:20Speaker 6: of a tuck and run, look like you want to
- 1:33:22Speaker 6: throw it quick. But unless unless you think Evan that
- 1:33:24Speaker 6: was a QB drop, No it wasn't.
- 1:33:26Speaker 7: But the red Seas did part and so that's something
- 1:33:29Speaker 7: that he's gonna do.
- 1:33:30Speaker 9: Yeah, if he sees that.
- 1:33:32Speaker 7: If he sees that green grass, he's just gonna take off.
- 1:33:36Speaker 7: I mean, well aborted snaps.
- 1:33:42Speaker 6: Mis guys, they don't take snaps under center.
- 1:33:44Speaker 17: Freddy in college big adjustment to ball security. Took the
- 1:33:49Speaker 17: words right out of my mouth, Paul, this is something
- 1:33:51Speaker 17: that we do have to monitor, and just a tiny
- 1:33:53Speaker 17: bit now. I think he does have Antonio Maffi, I'm
- 1:33:56Speaker 17: assuming is the center in this offensive right Maybe it's
- 1:34:01Speaker 17: nic Leverett.
- 1:34:03Speaker 5: So we are getting a little bit of precipitation right now,
- 1:34:07Speaker 5: are you. Yeah. Yeah, I'm not saying that's why he
- 1:34:13Speaker 5: dropped the snap.
- 1:34:13Speaker 6: But I mean, based on the schedule, we're probably coming
- 1:34:16Speaker 6: down close to the end here. That might only be
- 1:34:18Speaker 6: about ten minutes after.
- 1:34:19Speaker 7: Yeah, maybe one more time through the four quarterbacks.
- 1:34:22Speaker 5: We can't in practice without Chad Ryley.
- 1:34:24Speaker 6: No, he's getting warmed up right now, him and Slider
- 1:34:26Speaker 6: going at it against the what do you call this, Paul,
- 1:34:29Speaker 6: the skinny the skinny post, the skinny jeans with a
- 1:34:33Speaker 6: skinny post.
- 1:34:33Speaker 10: Skinny jeans, you know, skinny jeans, skinny posts.
- 1:34:38Speaker 6: May I'm Cork's one into double coverage and it is.
- 1:34:41Speaker 10: I remember we were, you know, talking about possible head
- 1:34:45Speaker 10: coaching candidates. Evan kept saying we need one of those
- 1:34:48Speaker 10: skinny jeans guys.
- 1:34:52Speaker 5: Yeah, all his offensive guys.
- 1:34:55Speaker 6: It just squeezes the scheme from your legs up into
- 1:34:57Speaker 6: your brain and you're able to this.
- 1:35:00Speaker 7: Drake made to Jalen Polk a post corner around just
- 1:35:05Speaker 7: couldn't connect on it, but he saw this single high
- 1:35:07Speaker 7: safety up the top and and he took the shot,
- 1:35:09Speaker 7: which is what you want to see.
- 1:35:11Speaker 8: Try to keep an eye on, you know, all the
- 1:35:13Speaker 8: all the young guys, new guys. That's another good rep
- 1:35:16Speaker 8: for Marcella's dial on that play. Ye, he had really
- 1:35:19Speaker 8: good coverage again on Polk.
- 1:35:21Speaker 7: Coming across those ones with Polk, you feel like they're
- 1:35:24Speaker 7: gonna take some time because you're gonna have to just
- 1:35:26Speaker 7: throw it into Polk's catch radius and trust that he's
- 1:35:29Speaker 7: going to make the play in traffic, Yeah, because he's
- 1:35:31Speaker 7: not going to run by anybody in the league at
- 1:35:34Speaker 7: four by four or whatever it was. So those ones
- 1:35:37Speaker 7: are are trust throws that he's going to go up
- 1:35:39Speaker 7: and get those.
- 1:35:40Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:35:41Speaker 8: I feel the rain now, Truss, Yeah, did.
- 1:35:44Speaker 6: You guys bring a slickers?
- 1:35:46Speaker 5: I'm just more worried about the equipment too.
- 1:35:52Speaker 6: It's waterproof electronics. They do they define him, Yeah, they
- 1:35:56Speaker 6: love water. Interesting in water chuydrophilic.
- 1:36:00Speaker 5: Yeah, Breake may out there under.
- 1:36:04Speaker 7: Center, Yeah, quite a bit of under center which you
- 1:36:09Speaker 7: would expect on early down work.
- 1:36:14Speaker 5: Not looking good.
- 1:36:15Speaker 6: Didn't come out of his hand.
- 1:36:16Speaker 8: It was the nose of the ball down kind of throw,
- 1:36:19Speaker 8: looked like a guy hit.
- 1:36:20Speaker 7: It was a Ken Dorsey throw, a little bit like
- 1:36:23Speaker 7: a little pressure in his face and just didn't get
- 1:36:26Speaker 7: into it.
- 1:36:27Speaker 6: That's Zapi Hour, Sean Wade just running gassers here on.
- 1:36:33Speaker 8: Yeah, he's he's done a lot of that.
- 1:36:36Speaker 6: Side field.
- 1:36:45Speaker 7: ZAPPI time, Zappy Hour. I do wonder at one point
- 1:36:54Speaker 7: in time we're gonna do away with some of these reps.
- 1:36:59Speaker 5: That was.
- 1:37:02Speaker 7: Her and who's gotten burned twice now by Jalen Rager.
- 1:37:05Speaker 9: So it was at.
- 1:37:07Speaker 7: Schooler was playing safety over the top on the first one.
- 1:37:10Speaker 7: Zzy Hearn having his hands full with Jalen Rager aka
- 1:37:14Speaker 7: Randy Moss.
- 1:37:16Speaker 6: Right well, and that's what I just, you know, I
- 1:37:21Speaker 6: wonder we look at that wide receiver depth chart. There's
- 1:37:24Speaker 6: so many guys and it's I just think there's so
- 1:37:27Speaker 6: many different permutations. That is it wrong to say that
- 1:37:30Speaker 6: Jalen Rager has no chance? Like, I don't think i'd
- 1:37:32Speaker 6: rule anybody.
- 1:37:34Speaker 9: I also think, yeah, could you say that?
- 1:37:36Speaker 10: I also think with Reger too, he brings something special
- 1:37:39Speaker 10: with special teams as well, Like there there were times,
- 1:37:41Speaker 10: especially with Marcus Jones out that he was in that
- 1:37:43Speaker 10: special Thomas turned spot returning those punts.
- 1:37:46Speaker 7: So Rega, I mean, we'll see what can help him
- 1:37:50Speaker 7: out when the pads come on. But right now, based
- 1:37:54Speaker 7: off the spring in this practice, which is granted not
- 1:37:57Speaker 7: a ton, it's hard to envision Jalen Rager off. It's
- 1:38:00Speaker 7: like he's he brings a speed threat. It translates more
- 1:38:04Speaker 7: than Taekwon Thornton's does to to offense. He has the
- 1:38:08Speaker 7: return ability, as Tamara said, like they need somebody on
- 1:38:11Speaker 7: the team that can run by someone offensively. It can't
- 1:38:14Speaker 7: all be you know, Jalen Polk's and those types of guys,
- 1:38:18Speaker 7: and pop Is obviously is a kind of his own thing,
- 1:38:21Speaker 7: you know, more of a jitterbug than he is like
- 1:38:23Speaker 7: a true deep threat.
- 1:38:25Speaker 8: Pardona from forty I just have a time.
- 1:38:27Speaker 7: Not seeing Rager got.
- 1:38:31Speaker 10: Evan in that same breath. What's it gonna take for
- 1:38:34Speaker 10: Juju to not be on.
- 1:38:35Speaker 6: This team, not to keep doing what he's doing?
- 1:38:40Speaker 7: Could play there by break.
- 1:38:41Speaker 10: Up, But do you feel like Juju has to like
- 1:38:44Speaker 10: wow you every single day of this camp?
- 1:38:46Speaker 6: Well, he just needs to show up. I think that's
- 1:38:47Speaker 6: I mean, that's the hardest thing. And I mean, you know,
- 1:38:50Speaker 6: we mentioned Riger he showed up in ot As a
- 1:38:52Speaker 6: little bit. He didn't really see anything from Juju. And
- 1:38:55Speaker 6: I mean, regardless of you know, oh it's just ohtas,
- 1:38:57Speaker 6: it's certain guys make plays, certain guy find ways to
- 1:39:00Speaker 6: catch the ball. You know, we saw what. I don't
- 1:39:03Speaker 6: know if I didn't see any other Juju targets. And
- 1:39:06Speaker 6: granted tough play, but you know, he dropped it. So
- 1:39:08Speaker 6: it's you could tell me Rager Thornton and Juju make
- 1:39:14Speaker 6: the team. You could tell me Rager Thornton and Juju
- 1:39:17Speaker 6: don't make the team, and I wouldn't even bat an eye.
- 1:39:20Speaker 6: I think it's gonna come down to a numbers game
- 1:39:24Speaker 6: and health for you know, guys like Born. If Born's
- 1:39:28Speaker 6: going to be ready to.
- 1:39:29Speaker 8: Go at the start of the season, and how many
- 1:39:31Speaker 8: of you keep it other spots, Like initially right now,
- 1:39:35Speaker 8: I only kept three running backs. I think they'll probably
- 1:39:38Speaker 8: have a fourth on the on the roster. Does that
- 1:39:41Speaker 8: take away a wide receiver or you know, do you
- 1:39:44Speaker 8: do you just keep seven receivers.
- 1:39:46Speaker 9: I love Marcus Jones.
- 1:39:48Speaker 6: And I don't want anybody other.
- 1:39:50Speaker 8: Than Marcus Jones returning anything as long as he's healthy.
- 1:39:54Speaker 8: So if Rager does what he does, what he did today,
- 1:39:57Speaker 8: and he's you know, like to Evan's point, you need
- 1:40:01Speaker 8: someone who could run by somebody. That's his role. He
- 1:40:04Speaker 8: has a role on offense. I'm all for Rager if
- 1:40:07Speaker 8: we're keeping him, because we turned to kick for a
- 1:40:09Speaker 8: touchdown last year. I like Marcus Jones more than Rager
- 1:40:12Speaker 8: as a returner.
- 1:40:15Speaker 7: Walk buddy stuff. Now you can keep on.
- 1:40:18Speaker 9: Yeah, I think you can make a case for any
- 1:40:20Speaker 9: and all of them. That's just the kind of all
- 1:40:22Speaker 9: the same to me.
- 1:40:23Speaker 7: I hear you on Marcus Jones. And especially with the
- 1:40:25Speaker 7: new kickoff rules, you do need a little bit of
- 1:40:28Speaker 7: make miss. I think with this new rule it's gonna
- 1:40:31Speaker 7: be a little bit more like a punt and then
- 1:40:32Speaker 7: they kick off. Yeah, in that respect. And Jalen Rager
- 1:40:37Speaker 7: is your traditional kickoff returner where he's gonna go in
- 1:40:40Speaker 7: a straight line from zero to sixty in a hurry,
- 1:40:42Speaker 7: whereas Marcus Jones has that joystick about him that he
- 1:40:45Speaker 7: can dance around contact and things like that. So it
- 1:40:48Speaker 7: does suit Marcus Jones a little bit more. I just
- 1:40:51Speaker 7: think that having both of them back, there is a
- 1:40:54Speaker 7: possibility that we might see that they might.
- 1:40:57Speaker 8: Use because you might need two kick returners. I did
- 1:41:00Speaker 8: think it was interesting that he compared it. It's like
- 1:41:03Speaker 8: more conducive to punt returns. The new, the new, the
- 1:41:07Speaker 8: new rules.
- 1:41:08Speaker 6: One for one there on Drake may. I love whoever's
- 1:41:10Speaker 6: recording stats. I hope they're getting these ones that walk
- 1:41:13Speaker 6: through pace. Let them catch it, let them catch it,
- 1:41:14Speaker 6: one for one. And that hasn't just really gotten no,
- 1:41:19Speaker 6: but that literally was let him catch it.
- 1:41:22Speaker 12: I mean.
- 1:41:25Speaker 6: Another cats for Rager, great day for him. Guys are
- 1:41:28Speaker 6: walking by, Okay, I think we're lifting up. We have
- 1:41:34Speaker 6: lift off chopper. They got to the choppa and now
- 1:41:39Speaker 6: they're leaving.
- 1:41:48Speaker 5: Yeah, so I think that's the owner leaving now right,
- 1:41:51Speaker 5: I assumes enough he said enough, We're gonna be good.
- 1:41:55Speaker 9: We're gonna be good. I've seen enough.
- 1:41:57Speaker 5: That long commute to Chestnut Hill, Fred, what what.
- 1:42:01Speaker 7: Are you doing?
- 1:42:02Speaker 10: What?
- 1:42:06Speaker 5: Oh?
- 1:42:06Speaker 6: So much time in.
- 1:42:07Speaker 5: The Pockectually he's he's heading to New York.
- 1:42:10Speaker 6: Ah, that's well, that way is probably that is New York.
- 1:42:12Speaker 10: That way I have no sense of direction.
- 1:42:14Speaker 6: Shelf, Well, this is the South end zone it is.
- 1:42:19Speaker 8: I've worked here for twenty this is my twenty sixth
- 1:42:22Speaker 8: training camp. They describe the North and South end zone,
- 1:42:26Speaker 8: and I ask Fred every time which one is the
- 1:42:28Speaker 8: North end?
- 1:42:28Speaker 10: Same the same one game day, They'll be like, meet
- 1:42:31Speaker 10: me here for this like live hit, and I'm like,
- 1:42:33Speaker 10: where is that. They're like North end zone. I'm like,
- 1:42:35Speaker 10: which one's which?
- 1:42:36Speaker 6: Oh, we might be running. We might be running the hills, folks.
- 1:42:39Speaker 8: This might be to me, North is that way and
- 1:42:43Speaker 8: the end zone's over there. I don't know why they
- 1:42:45Speaker 8: call it the North end zone.
- 1:42:46Speaker 4: So I just want to remind everyone to stick around.
- 1:42:50Speaker 4: We'll keep the show going because tomorrow is going to
- 1:42:52Speaker 4: be doing a one on one with a player right
- 1:42:54Speaker 4: from the field.
- 1:42:56Speaker 5: We'll put a headset on him and.
- 1:42:58Speaker 4: She'll talk to him, just kind of like what they
- 1:43:00Speaker 4: doing in baseball now with the manager and the dugout
- 1:43:02Speaker 4: and that type of thing.
- 1:43:03Speaker 5: We're going to do the same thing with a player. Uh.
- 1:43:06Speaker 4: Could be Dietrich Wise, could be Pop Douglas, We're not
- 1:43:08Speaker 4: sure at this point. We'll try to get the guy
- 1:43:11Speaker 4: who's available fast, uh, so that we don't have to
- 1:43:15Speaker 4: wait around that long. But right now they're heading down
- 1:43:18Speaker 4: to the hills and they're going to be doing a
- 1:43:22Speaker 4: little running conditioning. Run after practice.
- 1:43:26Speaker 6: It's the worst part of every sport, right, So running
- 1:43:28Speaker 6: after practice.
- 1:43:29Speaker 4: Your first day practice highlights, guys and girls?
- 1:43:33Speaker 5: What are we? What are we talking about?
- 1:43:35Speaker 10: To mere Star, I'll go first, which means I probably
- 1:43:37Speaker 10: get the highlight. Jalen Rager. I think he's my highlight. Unfortunately,
- 1:43:42Speaker 10: if I'm taking anyone's words out of their mouth, I
- 1:43:44Speaker 10: think he had a couple of great catches. Obviously, that
- 1:43:47Speaker 10: one down down the sideline where we don't know who
- 1:43:49Speaker 10: is defending him, we're up in the air and who
- 1:43:51Speaker 10: was defending him. But that one hand catch was my wow, wow,
- 1:43:54Speaker 10: I can't.
- 1:43:55Speaker 7: I can't confirm it was as easy earn. As much
- 1:43:57Speaker 7: as we don't like to advertise people taking videos from
- 1:43:59Speaker 7: this stands. Yeah, the streets have the video.
- 1:44:03Speaker 5: The streets have the video.
- 1:44:04Speaker 9: Yeah, okay, so Scholo was just chasing.
- 1:44:07Speaker 7: Correct deuce a favorite.
- 1:44:10Speaker 6: How about the second Jaylen May I'm just gonna say
- 1:44:14Speaker 6: the highlight for me is just getting started. I mean, there's,
- 1:44:16Speaker 6: you know, the great catch by Tamara, But just to
- 1:44:18Speaker 6: get the first day kind of under your belt, get
- 1:44:20Speaker 6: a sense of how things are gonna kind of go
- 1:44:22Speaker 6: with Jerrod a little bit different, a little shorter here today,
- 1:44:25Speaker 6: but just get the train rolling, and now you know,
- 1:44:28Speaker 6: now as to start to build Uart. We want pads,
- 1:44:29Speaker 6: we want preseason, we want joint practice, we want the
- 1:44:31Speaker 6: regular season. It all starts right now. So that's that's
- 1:44:34Speaker 6: it for me, just getting going.
- 1:44:35Speaker 7: Yeah, I would do so. I obviously there's we shouldn't
- 1:44:38Speaker 7: really jump to any conclusions based off of this one practice,
- 1:44:42Speaker 7: not in pads. But I guess we should just mention
- 1:44:44Speaker 7: that Jacoby Brissett let off everything as we expected in
- 1:44:48Speaker 7: Drake May right behind him, second in line, so that
- 1:44:52Speaker 7: that's how it's gonna be for the foreseeable future, I
- 1:44:55Speaker 7: would think. And I'm just curious to see at what
- 1:44:57Speaker 7: point do those guys start to double up in the
- 1:45:01Speaker 7: Bailey's appy. Joe Milton did get a few reps here today.
- 1:45:04Speaker 7: Did those reps go away for QB three, QB four
- 1:45:08Speaker 7: and we start to see a lot more of Jacoby
- 1:45:11Speaker 7: Ressaid and Drake May than what we saw here today.
- 1:45:15Speaker 8: I would say two things stood out to me. One is,
- 1:45:18Speaker 8: you know Judon talked, you know, in the spring about
- 1:45:21Speaker 8: not being happy the way he handled things last year
- 1:45:24Speaker 8: first day, both he and Godshaw were regular participants in practice,
- 1:45:29Speaker 8: so that stood out to me.
- 1:45:31Speaker 9: And the second one.
- 1:45:31Speaker 8: Is my overreaction, my daily overreaction to the athleticism that
- 1:45:35Speaker 8: Drake may possesses. I loved that play action boot Crosser
- 1:45:39Speaker 8: to Juju Smith Schuster.
- 1:45:41Speaker 6: That was my highlight of the day.
- 1:45:42Speaker 8: Plays that you could not run last year with the
- 1:45:46Speaker 8: personnel that you had at the position. So admittedly it's
- 1:45:50Speaker 8: a gross overreaction on one play, but I just love
- 1:45:54Speaker 8: the athleticism that he provides.
- 1:45:56Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm with everything that you guys have said.
- 1:45:58Speaker 4: I'll add this is a really month day one, but
- 1:46:00Speaker 4: one that just kind of underscored some things.
- 1:46:04Speaker 5: We're gonna do things a little bit differently.
- 1:46:06Speaker 4: When they were warming up doing their stretching, you had
- 1:46:08Speaker 4: offense on another field doing their own thing and defense
- 1:46:12Speaker 4: they'd never done that before.
- 1:46:14Speaker 5: They've always had, you.
- 1:46:15Speaker 4: Know, got you know, the offensive defense on the same
- 1:46:18Speaker 4: side of the field doing it together. Something different. I
- 1:46:22Speaker 4: don't know why they're doing it. It's silly, but it
- 1:46:25Speaker 4: just to me, you know, we're going to try different things.
- 1:46:27Speaker 4: We're gonna do it a different way, and I think
- 1:46:30Speaker 4: we're going to see more of that as we go
- 1:46:32Speaker 4: through training camp of Gerrodmeo and his coaching staff putting
- 1:46:36Speaker 4: their own thumbprint on how things are done around here.
- 1:46:40Speaker 5: So we're not wrapping it up.
- 1:46:42Speaker 4: We're gonna continue to tap dance as we wait for
- 1:46:46Speaker 4: a player to become available for tomorrow to interview.
- 1:46:50Speaker 5: I knew this was going to happen. Yeah, this is
- 1:46:53Speaker 5: my one fear.
- 1:46:53Speaker 6: Hard timing.
- 1:46:54Speaker 4: Yeah, just to get a player that quickly after practice
- 1:46:57Speaker 4: because you know they do things afterwards.
- 1:46:59Speaker 6: So yeah, we'll.
- 1:47:00Speaker 5: See how it goes.
- 1:47:03Speaker 4: See the media gathering because there will be player availability
- 1:47:06Speaker 4: after practice with several players, uh speaking to the media.
- 1:47:13Speaker 7: Yeah, I think there's a pop Douglas was scheduled.
- 1:47:17Speaker 9: We'll see.
- 1:47:18Speaker 7: If he ends up talking, i'll pull it up. But yeah,
- 1:47:22Speaker 7: we do.
- 1:47:22Speaker 5: We do have well while you're waiting.
- 1:47:24Speaker 4: It's easy to drink, it's easy to enjoy, but light
- 1:47:28Speaker 4: the official beer sponsor of the New England Patriots and
- 1:47:31Speaker 4: another sponsor is Bridgestone, Official tire of the New England
- 1:47:34Speaker 4: Patriots in proud partner with Sullivan Tire, New England's headquarters
- 1:47:38Speaker 4: for quality Bridgestone tires. Visit Sullivantire dot com to find
- 1:47:42Speaker 4: a location near you.
- 1:47:43Speaker 7: So it's Pop Douglas Hunter, Henry mike On WHENU Remandre
- 1:47:47Speaker 7: Jolie Tobai and Dietrich.
- 1:47:49Speaker 6: Wise, Evan's got to get down to and be like, like,
- 1:47:54Speaker 6: you're just a guard.
- 1:47:56Speaker 10: Am gonna say, I'm just doing my.
- 1:47:58Speaker 6: Job wherever they want to put me. But I do
- 1:48:03Speaker 6: think it's a little interesting just to see Calvin Anderson
- 1:48:06Speaker 6: kind of emerging into that mix a little bit. I mean,
- 1:48:08Speaker 6: it's a little bit unexpected that that, you know, he
- 1:48:11Speaker 6: might be one of the guys at the right tackle side.
- 1:48:13Speaker 6: But I do think it it just allows them to
- 1:48:16Speaker 6: play better. Like I just and when you re guard,
- 1:48:19Speaker 6: to me is the answer. And if Anderson's able to
- 1:48:22Speaker 6: hold down the right tackle spot, that to me is
- 1:48:25Speaker 6: the you know, Paul, we talked about the best five.
- 1:48:27Speaker 6: That's where it is for me. I think I'm when
- 1:48:29Speaker 6: you've got a play inside.
- 1:48:32Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, I think he's a better guard than
- 1:48:36Speaker 8: a tackle, But I'm not sure, you know, to me,
- 1:48:39Speaker 8: it would come down to those the Caden Wallace's, the
- 1:48:43Speaker 8: Baderian Low's, the Calvin Anderson's. Are they better than City
- 1:48:47Speaker 8: so or whoever else you want? Nick Liverett you know
- 1:48:51Speaker 8: someone like that. You know at Guard, that to me
- 1:48:54Speaker 8: is where you're coming up with your five best you know,
- 1:48:56Speaker 8: he's Calvin Anderson better than City. So you know, assuming
- 1:49:00Speaker 8: when Strange is back, yeah, I think, well when Strange
- 1:49:05Speaker 8: is out, yeah.
- 1:49:06Speaker 5: It looks like they're done with uh yeah, I can't
- 1:49:09Speaker 5: hear you, Evan. Looks like they're running as you as
- 1:49:14Speaker 5: they say, Let's see who's in the middle of that?
- 1:49:17Speaker 5: Is it? Is it Gerd in the middle? You can't tell.
- 1:49:21Speaker 6: It's a big, big gathering. Good first day, guys, way
- 1:49:26Speaker 6: to work hard.
- 1:49:27Speaker 5: Let's build on it.
- 1:49:28Speaker 6: Well, you know that's the The thing that's funny though,
- 1:49:31Speaker 6: is like, you know, the end of practice, but you
- 1:49:33Speaker 6: realize that these guys are they're in the midst of
- 1:49:37Speaker 6: like a tough couple of weeks. I mean, they're gonna
- 1:49:39Speaker 6: be living here, They're going right into meetings, they're gonna
- 1:49:42Speaker 6: break down this practice. And I would be curious though,
- 1:49:45Speaker 6: I know, you know, Gerard said they moved the meetings
- 1:49:47Speaker 6: to the morning before the practice. Is he getting guys
- 1:49:50Speaker 6: out earlier? You know?
- 1:49:51Speaker 5: Is that?
- 1:49:52Speaker 6: I mean? Is this a thing where they're still here
- 1:49:53Speaker 6: toll like eight, nine, ten o'clock at night. Sure some
- 1:49:56Speaker 6: of them are quarterbacks that need to study all that stuff.
- 1:49:59Speaker 6: But you know, I just I wonder if the days
- 1:50:01Speaker 6: are maybe a little bit shorter on the tail end
- 1:50:04Speaker 6: than they were under Bill.
- 1:50:05Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:50:07Speaker 6: Ye, players hanging out, fans hanging out, trying to get
- 1:50:09Speaker 6: some autographs.
- 1:50:10Speaker 5: Yeah, the players will be coming in signing autographs as
- 1:50:13Speaker 5: soon as they're done with their huddle. And he looks
- 1:50:16Speaker 5: like they're breaking it up now. So we'll see who
- 1:50:18Speaker 5: we get to talk to tomorrow. Are you ready to marrow?
- 1:50:21Speaker 5: What do you? What do you? What do you say?
- 1:50:22Speaker 5: It's Dietrich Wise, what are you gonna ask?
- 1:50:24Speaker 10: I can't tell you that, because then why would a
- 1:50:26Speaker 10: new one stay answers. No, they're not here to hear
- 1:50:33Speaker 10: your questions.
- 1:50:34Speaker 5: They're here to hear the questions.
- 1:50:35Speaker 6: I don't even need.
- 1:50:37Speaker 10: That's a spoiler.
- 1:50:38Speaker 6: You have to wait and see, all right, hash tag
- 1:50:42Speaker 6: tea trick Wise, But.
- 1:50:43Speaker 10: I feel like it's going to be Didrich, just simply
- 1:50:45Speaker 10: because we saw Pop Douglas running conditioning a lot and
- 1:50:48Speaker 10: not actually participating a ton in eleven or elevens.
- 1:50:51Speaker 6: So I've noticed too, with Dietrich going back to OTAs
- 1:50:54Speaker 6: that he's been out here really early. Maybe like you know,
- 1:50:57Speaker 6: I don't think he was the first guy out here today,
- 1:50:58Speaker 6: but often what was City show was so but often
- 1:51:03Speaker 6: you know, Wise has been out here. You see him
- 1:51:05Speaker 6: down there working on hand placement, the techniques of you know,
- 1:51:08Speaker 6: playing defensive line. But I just think he's a guy
- 1:51:11Speaker 6: really emerging as you know, one of these new leaders
- 1:51:13Speaker 6: and seems to be embracing that role.
- 1:51:16Speaker 10: I wonder how different it's gonna be without Lawrence Guy
- 1:51:18Speaker 10: for him.
- 1:51:19Speaker 6: That's that's a good question.
- 1:51:20Speaker 10: Should lock him too. It's like not just like out
- 1:51:24Speaker 10: in the field, how are you gonna miss him?
- 1:51:26Speaker 6: But like he's yeah, no, it's I mean, it's I mean,
- 1:51:29Speaker 6: I think, uh, I think Lawrence Guy missed two games
- 1:51:33Speaker 6: in his time here, so you know, I know he's
- 1:51:37Speaker 6: a little bit of a throwback player, but he filled
- 1:51:40Speaker 6: a big role for them, and I mean he was
- 1:51:41Speaker 6: pretty reliable when he was here. So it's you know,
- 1:51:43Speaker 6: I don't think it's the especially as he was getting
- 1:51:46Speaker 6: up in age. It's not the hardest position to replace,
- 1:51:48Speaker 6: but it's just you know, those those guys that eat
- 1:51:51Speaker 6: up all those snaps and you know, just take the
- 1:51:54Speaker 6: wear and tear off the rest of the line too.
- 1:51:56Speaker 6: I don't think it's a you know, just an easy
- 1:51:59Speaker 6: plug and play kind of replace. You're you're really hoping
- 1:52:01Speaker 6: that whoever's in that role is gonna be able to
- 1:52:03Speaker 6: be in it as as consistently as Lawrence Guy was, So,
- 1:52:06Speaker 6: you know, definitely one of the more underrated players of
- 1:52:09Speaker 6: the last few years that you know, did a lot
- 1:52:11Speaker 6: of the dirty work that these guys do on the
- 1:52:12Speaker 6: defensive line.
- 1:52:13Speaker 10: I feel like him and Godshaw are guys that, like,
- 1:52:15Speaker 10: you know, you're not going to look on the stat
- 1:52:17Speaker 10: sheet and be like, oh my god, they've done so much. Yeah,
- 1:52:20Speaker 10: you really have to.
- 1:52:21Speaker 6: Just yeahs in the field a unit. Part of what
- 1:52:24Speaker 6: I knew we heard new defensive coordinator Mark DeMarcus Covington
- 1:52:27Speaker 6: talked about plumbing last year that if you're gonna play
- 1:52:29Speaker 6: defensive line in New England, you're gonna have to be
- 1:52:31Speaker 6: willing to do the dirty work and to eat up
- 1:52:33Speaker 6: the blocks and you know, to allow other players, uh
- 1:52:36Speaker 6: to make plays. And you know that was something Lawrence Guy,
- 1:52:39Speaker 6: selfless kind of player up front that you know, I mean,
- 1:52:43Speaker 6: like Jeremiah Farms, he seems to be kind of in
- 1:52:45Speaker 6: the mix. To replace him, they signed Arm and Watts.
- 1:52:47Speaker 6: He seems like an easy kind of plug and play.
- 1:52:50Speaker 6: But you know, you just you wonder with Dietrich Wise
- 1:52:53Speaker 6: gotcha and and maybe Barmore. Now maybe that's that you're
- 1:52:56Speaker 6: starting three and you've got a little bit more pass
- 1:52:59Speaker 6: rush residence with Christian Barmore than you might have had
- 1:53:03Speaker 6: with Lawrence. Guy. You might be losing some consistency in
- 1:53:06Speaker 6: the run game though, something to consider. But overall, I
- 1:53:09Speaker 6: mean it's a good group. I think Daniel Qualley, we're
- 1:53:11Speaker 6: watching these guys walk off right.
- 1:53:12Speaker 10: Now, is another guy I'm not underrated, you know what
- 1:53:15Speaker 10: I mean.
- 1:53:16Speaker 6: He's like he's not a superstar, but he's a good
- 1:53:19Speaker 6: role player. Who can you know, again, eat some of
- 1:53:21Speaker 6: those snaps up and you know, allow the other guys
- 1:53:24Speaker 6: to to really do their things. So we're watching the
- 1:53:28Speaker 6: players slowly make their way off the field, and you know,
- 1:53:32Speaker 6: it really turned out to be a nice weather day.
- 1:53:34Speaker 6: I kind of like, I kind of like the rain.
- 1:53:37Speaker 6: It's nice and cool. We're gonna be pretty sweaty in
- 1:53:39Speaker 6: a couple.
- 1:53:39Speaker 5: So the quarterbacks and some of the offensive guys are
- 1:53:43Speaker 5: still they're going to do some extra curricular work after practice.
- 1:53:47Speaker 6: As Drake Mays wont to do, Fred, I mean that's
- 1:53:49Speaker 6: been him pretty much. Yeah, the whole camp hanging out
- 1:53:52Speaker 6: afterwards with whoever wants to catch some balls with them,
- 1:53:58Speaker 6: And yeah, it's gotta just gotta feel good. Check this
- 1:54:00Speaker 6: box off, get things rolling, you know, it's it's The
- 1:54:04Speaker 6: next few days will probably be pretty similar, but as always,
- 1:54:09Speaker 6: there's plays to be made here and there. You know,
- 1:54:11Speaker 6: you see little things that that stand out to you.
- 1:54:13Speaker 4: And yeah, I see our crack media staff making their
- 1:54:18Speaker 4: way out to the field corraling guys. So hopefully it
- 1:54:21Speaker 4: won't be too long before we have a player on
- 1:54:23Speaker 4: headset talking to Tamara.
- 1:54:26Speaker 9: See what happened?
- 1:54:26Speaker 5: Happens here? No, I can't hear you.
- 1:54:31Speaker 6: Now that's a little This is where everybody me enders
- 1:54:34Speaker 6: says low to the family.
- 1:54:36Speaker 10: No, yes, okay, now I can hear myself. I want
- 1:54:39Speaker 10: to circle back to you, Fred. First of all, is
- 1:54:41Speaker 10: it bad that I can't see? Should I be able
- 1:54:43Speaker 10: to see or should I just look here?
- 1:54:46Speaker 5: No, somebody will tell you because I.
- 1:54:47Speaker 10: Can't see, like the actual field, spot my spot down there.
- 1:54:51Speaker 10: I could see the field. No, I'm too short. I'm
- 1:54:54Speaker 10: too short.
- 1:54:55Speaker 6: You got that like an apple box?
- 1:54:59Speaker 10: I want to circle back to what Fred said earlier
- 1:55:00Speaker 10: about it being cold. Yeah, this was perfect weather, perfect weather.
- 1:55:05Speaker 6: But are you're from the south though, your sense of
- 1:55:07Speaker 6: hot and cold is all warped.
- 1:55:08Speaker 10: I will say, my mom and grandma are like, it's
- 1:55:10Speaker 10: cold here, like it's no humidity, like compared to Virginia.
- 1:55:13Speaker 10: You walk outside.
- 1:55:14Speaker 5: If you're a player, this is perfect perfect.
- 1:55:16Speaker 10: I mean this is almost like Fallway.
- 1:55:18Speaker 5: I bet you Gerard wishes it was like it was
- 1:55:20Speaker 5: a couple of days ago, you know, right, because it
- 1:55:23Speaker 5: was hot and humid here.
- 1:55:24Speaker 10: No, but I will say Gerard walked out today with
- 1:55:26Speaker 10: this towel around his neck like ready to go, like
- 1:55:29Speaker 10: it was like ninety two degrees.
- 1:55:30Speaker 5: Like the kid it just worked out because he was
- 1:55:32Speaker 5: sweat like.
- 1:55:32Speaker 10: He always looks like that though, Yeah, that's true. Always
- 1:55:35Speaker 10: him and High Tower looked like they just worked out
- 1:55:37Speaker 10: all the time.
- 1:55:38Speaker 4: Yeah, all right, we're still waiting for a player.
- 1:55:43Speaker 10: Thank you.
- 1:55:44Speaker 9: That's all right.
- 1:55:46Speaker 6: I can see guys, got your Milton's signing down there.
- 1:55:50Speaker 5: It's a.
- 1:55:52Speaker 6: Couple of mac Jones jersey. Sorry, not really nice, uh
- 1:55:54Speaker 6: Drake may Carolina Jersey. Really it was pretty sweet.
- 1:55:58Speaker 10: Did Paul purposely bring a carolin on a hat for today,
- 1:56:01Speaker 10: for like good vibes for Drake May like he did.
- 1:56:03Speaker 6: Actually, he loves Drake May. He supports. You should ask
- 1:56:05Speaker 6: him about it. It's entirely for uh, solely to support Drake.
- 1:56:10Speaker 6: I think he accidentally wore it to camp and like
- 1:56:12Speaker 6: everybody would not let it go. It would be like, oh,
- 1:56:15Speaker 6: Paul support May, Like I just went to North Carolina.
- 1:56:20Speaker 10: That's hilarious.
- 1:56:21Speaker 6: And this is sad because I see my boy Jabrial
- 1:56:23Speaker 6: Pepper's going to the podium, So you're missing out hang
- 1:56:26Speaker 6: out with you can go down man, Yeah, alright, I
- 1:56:28Speaker 6: just I want to keep you going, you know, keep
- 1:56:31Speaker 6: some more energy going until.
- 1:56:32Speaker 10: You're giving us, keeping us company.
- 1:56:34Speaker 6: All Right, I'm gonna go. Then.
- 1:56:37Speaker 5: He can't help it. He loves the first one out there,
- 1:56:40Speaker 5: as as always is the case. Uh in training camp,
- 1:56:43Speaker 5: friends and families come to practice, and so you see
- 1:56:46Speaker 5: a lot of wives and girlfriends down there on the
- 1:56:51Speaker 5: field right now, Uh, some kids running around.
- 1:56:54Speaker 10: Honestly, this is my favorite part of training camp.
- 1:56:56Speaker 6: Yeah, they're just real people to me.
- 1:56:59Speaker 5: The kids come out, Like.
- 1:57:00Speaker 10: David Andrews has a new baby. No one asked about it. Yesterday.
- 1:57:03Speaker 10: I was so mad.
- 1:57:04Speaker 6: I was like, come on, Well, it's always fun. It's
- 1:57:06Speaker 6: always fun when you see like the Matthew Slater's swinging
- 1:57:08Speaker 6: his kids around. But it's always fun when you see
- 1:57:10Speaker 6: some of these kids who are like, yep, they got
- 1:57:12Speaker 6: they got those D one jeans. Like some of these kids,
- 1:57:14Speaker 6: like their hands are already bigger than mine and they're
- 1:57:15Speaker 6: about two years old. You can tell not long before
- 1:57:18Speaker 6: some of these kids are going to be making a
- 1:57:20Speaker 6: push in the toward the NFL.
- 1:57:22Speaker 10: It's so good seeing Slater still out here. It feels
- 1:57:26Speaker 10: like nothing's changed, but.
- 1:57:27Speaker 6: No, it must have. It'd be fun. So it was
- 1:57:29Speaker 6: his first day.
- 1:57:30Speaker 5: Did you notice what he was doing during practice?
- 1:57:32Speaker 10: Because I know I have to watch it.
- 1:57:34Speaker 6: I didn't really clock him too much, but I mean
- 1:57:36Speaker 6: I would really love to know. I mean, he's got
- 1:57:39Speaker 6: to be he's got to have the itch right now,
- 1:57:41Speaker 6: right like he just like it's got to be like
- 1:57:42Speaker 6: this is when it hits you.
- 1:57:43Speaker 10: Like Fred, we should have added him to the interview list.
- 1:57:46Speaker 6: He would agree that would be a good interview just
- 1:57:49Speaker 6: the first day.
- 1:57:49Speaker 10: Yeah, because because this is the first time.
- 1:57:51Speaker 6: On the other side, it's so many guys that I've
- 1:57:53Speaker 6: talked to, like you know, retired players all levels of football,
- 1:57:56Speaker 6: and the thing that they all kind of mention, especially
- 1:57:58Speaker 6: in the training Camberly on smell the grass. Smell the
- 1:58:01Speaker 6: grass and start a training camp. That that's like the
- 1:58:03Speaker 6: thing that you know. And for Slater, I imagine going
- 1:58:06Speaker 6: out there, He's like, man, why aren't I working out
- 1:58:08Speaker 6: with my guy working on covering kicks, like you know,
- 1:58:10Speaker 6: just doing his own thing, whole tutoring session.
- 1:58:13Speaker 10: And just coming out and hearing the fans like cheer
- 1:58:16Speaker 10: and yell your name out and numbers and like wait
- 1:58:18Speaker 10: after practice for your autographs. It's like, yeah, there's nothing
- 1:58:21Speaker 10: like that.
- 1:58:23Speaker 6: Yeah, and do we have eyes on d wise? Is that?
- 1:58:27Speaker 5: Well? I'm also run for where or who will have
- 1:58:31Speaker 5: the headset to put on the player? Like where is it?
- 1:58:34Speaker 10: I think it's right there? Okay, do you see where
- 1:58:40Speaker 10: Steph is? It's like the very first podium.
- 1:58:43Speaker 5: Okay, if you look to the left, there's.
- 1:58:44Speaker 10: A camera guy and a person with a headset.
- 1:58:45Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, there you go.
- 1:58:47Speaker 10: Now that I have an Apple box, I can see everything.
- 1:58:51Speaker 5: Okay. Yeah, he's standing there at the camera right, so.
- 1:58:53Speaker 10: That's arms crossed.
- 1:58:55Speaker 5: That's where it's going to take place.
- 1:58:56Speaker 6: They're ready, they're waving.
- 1:58:58Speaker 5: So we got to get a player over there, okay.
- 1:59:02Speaker 6: And I don't see ninety one. Let's maybe he's signing.
- 1:59:06Speaker 6: Ninety one is a man of the people out, he's out.
- 1:59:08Speaker 5: But if he's signing, we should get somebody else.
- 1:59:10Speaker 6: No, I don't see him. That's true too, I don't
- 1:59:12Speaker 6: see him anywhere. But yeah, why do you see Stacey
- 1:59:19Speaker 6: walking over to the Romandre?
- 1:59:20Speaker 5: Oh, maybe we'll get Ramondre Stevenson.
- 1:59:23Speaker 10: Whenever I hear Remandre, I think of that miked up
- 1:59:27Speaker 10: David Andrews when he's just walking down the sideline screaming Andre.
- 1:59:31Speaker 5: So good.
- 1:59:33Speaker 6: All right, guys, this is where I leave you. I
- 1:59:35Speaker 6: am gonna go down and catch some of these interviews.
- 1:59:36Speaker 6: So hopefully you're not waiting too long.
- 1:59:38Speaker 10: But you have to get down there fast enough to
- 1:59:42Speaker 10: ask Ja brill Pepper's a question. There you go, just
- 1:59:49Speaker 10: the two of us, Fred.
- 1:59:52Speaker 4: Yeah, now he's Remondre stopping to say hello to somebody
- 1:59:56Speaker 4: and their kids, and.
- 2:00:00Speaker 5: You're really creepy. We're on player time, we are, We're
- 2:00:03Speaker 5: on player time.
- 2:00:05Speaker 10: I'm used to this, though, Fred. I feel like for
- 2:00:07Speaker 10: our TV show, I have to like just wait, hurry
- 2:00:10Speaker 10: up and wait.
- 2:00:10Speaker 5: Yep.
- 2:00:12Speaker 10: But It's worth the wait every single time.
- 2:00:15Speaker 4: This is something new we're trying. We've never done this
- 2:00:17Speaker 4: before after our live broadcast for Camp. We've never done
- 2:00:21Speaker 4: the player right from the field. So okay, let's see
- 2:00:40Speaker 4: anyone getting closer.
- 2:00:47Speaker 5: There's Dietrich. Oh no, that's not Dietrich. Wise Okay, big
- 2:00:57Speaker 5: MIC's going to the one of the podiums. M.
- 2:01:11Speaker 10: It's a good trio. Pepper's big mic. And is that.
- 2:01:20Speaker 5: Scott Zolac. We don't want to interview Scott. No, no,
- 2:01:23Speaker 5: I'm only kidding. What's he even doing?
- 2:01:26Speaker 10: He's like speed walking. He is coming to be interviewed.
- 2:01:34Speaker 10: This is a great spot to people watch.
- 2:01:45Speaker 5: All right. I don't know who they're going to get.
- 2:01:47Speaker 5: This is going to be a mystery up until the
- 2:01:50Speaker 5: point where somebody walks up to that camera.
- 2:01:55Speaker 10: It might be Matisse.
- 2:02:01Speaker 5: We shall see.
- 2:02:06Speaker 10: Fred. What's the longest practice that you've been to? Oh,
- 2:02:09Speaker 10: since you've been here?
- 2:02:10Speaker 4: Well, we used to back in the Bryant days, we
- 2:02:12Speaker 4: used to do double sessions, so no break. Well, you
- 2:02:16Speaker 4: go in the morning and there'd be a practice for
- 2:02:18Speaker 4: like two hours, and then you go have lunch and
- 2:02:21Speaker 4: you know, you follow your stories after that practice. Then
- 2:02:24Speaker 4: you come out in the afternoon and be another two
- 2:02:26Speaker 4: hour practice.
- 2:02:26Speaker 10: Do you feel pads by the way, do you feel
- 2:02:29Speaker 10: as though the first one was always way more productive
- 2:02:32Speaker 10: than the second one or were they about the same?
- 2:02:33Speaker 4: Oh, that's a good question. That's a good question. I
- 2:02:36Speaker 4: would say, yeah. I would say that the morning practice
- 2:02:39Speaker 4: was probably tougher. You know, but back then, man, you know,
- 2:02:44Speaker 4: Ted Johnson would be your middle linebacker and Sam Gash
- 2:02:47Speaker 4: was your full back, and they would do these running
- 2:02:49Speaker 4: plays and they would be hitting, hitting, I mean, you
- 2:02:54Speaker 4: don't see that anymore.
- 2:02:55Speaker 5: You don't see that anymore.
- 2:02:56Speaker 10: Do you think it had a positive impact on how
- 2:02:59Speaker 10: the season went having practices like that or do you
- 2:03:01Speaker 10: think the way it is now is better? For how
- 2:03:04Speaker 10: many games did they play?
- 2:03:05Speaker 5: I don't know. I listen.
- 2:03:08Speaker 4: I think that there were bigger hits back then in games,
- 2:03:12Speaker 4: but you know, were there less injuries more injuries?
- 2:03:15Speaker 5: I think the injuries are the same. I mean, that's
- 2:03:17Speaker 5: kind of the point is.
- 2:03:19Speaker 4: That you know, most of these bad injuries that you
- 2:03:23Speaker 4: see players have, it's not from the contact. It's those
- 2:03:27Speaker 4: non contact injuries that you know, knock guys out for
- 2:03:30Speaker 4: the season. So I don't think there's any to me.
- 2:03:35Speaker 4: I don't think there's any findings that say that, oh,
- 2:03:38Speaker 4: back then it was better or now it's better. It's
- 2:03:41Speaker 4: just different, that's all. Now you might say that maybe
- 2:03:45Speaker 4: the quality of play in the start of the season
- 2:03:49Speaker 4: isn't as good as it used to be because guys
- 2:03:52Speaker 4: were probably ready to go faster back then. That's true,
- 2:03:56Speaker 4: but then as the season progresses it probably levels out.
- 2:04:01Speaker 10: And how many games were they playing though, well, for.
- 2:04:05Speaker 4: The most part it was sixteen, but I think back fourteen,
- 2:04:09Speaker 4: I think stopped.
- 2:04:12Speaker 5: I forget what year it was, but it was before
- 2:04:14Speaker 5: I started.
- 2:04:15Speaker 10: Yeah, I can't imagine like them having a two a
- 2:04:19Speaker 10: day now, No, especially in this heat. Not today obviously, but.
- 2:04:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I could see them doing pads in
- 2:04:26Speaker 4: the morning and then you know, shorts in the afternoon.
- 2:04:29Speaker 4: But yeah, they would never do two a days anymore.
- 2:04:31Speaker 4: Those days are gone.
- 2:04:32Speaker 10: And we're fans at both of those.
- 2:04:34Speaker 5: Oh yeah, oh wow, oh yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 2:04:38Speaker 4: There was one we were at Brian College and it
- 2:04:40Speaker 4: was the afternoon session and I remember there was this
- 2:04:43Speaker 4: fan and he had full uniform, he had the helmet pads,
- 2:04:47Speaker 4: you know, obviously he bought it himself.
- 2:04:49Speaker 5: And he's like pacing back.
- 2:04:51Speaker 4: And forth on the sideline and I'm looking at him
- 2:04:55Speaker 4: for the whole practice and how like he's up to something.
- 2:04:58Speaker 4: Sure enough, practice ends, he jumps the rope and starts
- 2:05:02Speaker 4: sprinting up and down the and he was pretty fast.
- 2:05:05Speaker 4: He starts sprinting up and down the field and the
- 2:05:08Speaker 4: security runs out and they get him. But he thought
- 2:05:12Speaker 4: that he was going to impress somebody and make the team.
- 2:05:15Speaker 4: That was his thing, and it was so funny. But
- 2:05:18Speaker 4: I remember watching him and saying, he's.
- 2:05:19Speaker 5: Going to do something. He's up to something, And sure enough,
- 2:05:22Speaker 5: he jumped the rope and started doing sprints up and
- 2:05:26Speaker 5: down the field in full uniform.
- 2:05:29Speaker 10: See when you first said he jumped the fence, I
- 2:05:31Speaker 10: was like thinking, Okay, so he gonna run out and
- 2:05:32Speaker 10: try to like talk to people on the team. But no,
- 2:05:34Speaker 10: he ran sprints.
- 2:05:35Speaker 5: No, the team had already left the field.
- 2:05:38Speaker 4: Practice is over and he just it was a rope
- 2:05:41Speaker 4: and he just jumped the rope and started doing these sprints.
- 2:05:43Speaker 5: It was the funniest thing.
- 2:05:45Speaker 10: You've seen it all friends, Oh.
- 2:05:47Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, we still don't have a player.
- 2:05:57Speaker 10: See David Andrews walking, But I feel like he probably
- 2:05:59Speaker 10: has to go of the podium.
- 2:06:00Speaker 5: Yea with Aaron, So that could be the guy.
- 2:06:04Speaker 10: That could be the guy. Yeah, which I wouldn't be
- 2:06:07Speaker 10: mad at you.
- 2:06:09Speaker 5: You're good with that. David Andrews if he's the person.
- 2:06:12Speaker 10: No, No, he's he's walking.
- 2:06:14Speaker 5: He's walking by Mandri is going to putium.
- 2:06:20Speaker 10: David Andrews is walking still.
- 2:06:26Speaker 5: All right.
- 2:06:27Speaker 10: I also can't see, like where is d Church?
- 2:06:30Speaker 5: Yeah, I haven't seen him.
- 2:06:32Speaker 10: Do we know who my point of contact is for
- 2:06:35Speaker 10: getting said person?
- 2:06:36Speaker 4: I thought it was one of it was Aaron A
- 2:06:39Speaker 4: little inside baseball people don't know who we're talking.
- 2:06:42Speaker 10: Yeah, who is that?
- 2:06:44Speaker 5: Oh?
- 2:06:44Speaker 10: Look at Gonzo? Do you see him? No, running along
- 2:06:48Speaker 10: the fans like high fiving each a. He's still going.
- 2:06:55Speaker 10: Joe Milton did a backflip.
- 2:06:56Speaker 5: Okay, all right, here comes.
- 2:07:03Speaker 10: Is someone coming up.
- 2:07:05Speaker 5: Austin Hooper's a big guy, he really is.
- 2:07:07Speaker 10: I was looking at him trying to figure out who
- 2:07:09Speaker 10: that is.
- 2:07:11Speaker 5: He's a big guy for uh.
- 2:07:14Speaker 10: Not a lot of special teams work today, frid No, No,
- 2:07:18Speaker 10: we didn't see any of that. I was a little
- 2:07:20Speaker 10: bit shocked though. That's like we're going to spend some
- 2:07:22Speaker 10: time doing that because they did. I feel like during
- 2:07:24Speaker 10: mini camp a tone, but.
- 2:07:27Speaker 5: I don't know what's going on me either.
- 2:07:32Speaker 4: Well, I apologize for the delay everyone, but I thank
- 2:07:35Speaker 4: you for holding on. Maybe we'll get somebody in the
- 2:07:38Speaker 4: next minute or so. Up Here comes Dietrich. I see him,
- 2:07:43Speaker 4: you do.
- 2:07:44Speaker 10: Yeah, Oh, I see him too.
- 2:07:46Speaker 4: So I think he's headed toward our camera. So get ready, tomarra, yep,
- 2:07:53Speaker 4: here we go. First he has to say hello to somebody.
- 2:08:02Speaker 4: Now he's putting his helmet down and we are on
- 2:08:06Speaker 4: player timeup Here he comes. They're gonna bring them up.
- 2:08:10Speaker 4: I see them putting a headset. I'm gonna let you
- 2:08:13Speaker 4: take over here, Tamaron.
- 2:08:32Speaker 11: I don't want say anything, so you're good.
- 2:08:34Speaker 10: Yeah, Hey Ddrich, how are you? First day of school
- 2:08:39Speaker 10: under head coach Gerard Mayo. It's the first day of
- 2:08:42Speaker 10: training camp.
- 2:08:42Speaker 5: How was it at first day? Was great?
- 2:08:44Speaker 11: The rain didn't about it at all. We came out
- 2:08:46Speaker 11: here with really good energy starting off. They one really good.
- 2:08:50Speaker 11: Everybody got after. Everybody hustled around and it turned out
- 2:08:53Speaker 11: to be a good result.
- 2:08:55Speaker 10: One of the big topics of training camp this year
- 2:08:57Speaker 10: is the star time, which is eleven am. Gerardmeo said
- 2:09:00Speaker 10: he wanted to have meetings first and then come out
- 2:09:01Speaker 10: here on the field. How did it impact you from
- 2:09:03Speaker 10: your perspective, God's.
- 2:09:05Speaker 11: Prepared to start the day right. It didn't impact us
- 2:09:08Speaker 11: too much. It's very similar to how the season goal
- 2:09:11Speaker 11: when we have twelve o'clock games, so it's one of
- 2:09:13Speaker 11: those get up and goal type practices and nine to
- 2:09:17Speaker 11: eleven didn't you phases too much? But you came right
- 2:09:20Speaker 11: here and we got it done.
- 2:09:21Speaker 10: You're one of the longest tenured players on this team
- 2:09:24Speaker 10: to Church, you have a lot of wisdom. What was
- 2:09:26Speaker 10: it like for you to come out here for training
- 2:09:29Speaker 10: camp this season?
- 2:09:30Speaker 5: Like?
- 2:09:30Speaker 10: How different was it?
- 2:09:32Speaker 5: It was?
- 2:09:32Speaker 11: Actually wasn't really that big of a difference. I feel
- 2:09:35Speaker 11: like I kept the same routine I've been doing for
- 2:09:37Speaker 11: the last eight years. It's pretty awesome to come out
- 2:09:40Speaker 11: here for my eighth year. See a lot of new
- 2:09:42Speaker 11: faces every year, but everybody has the same goal in
- 2:09:45Speaker 11: the same same attitude, and that's to get better.
- 2:09:47Speaker 10: You don't have Lauren's guy out there in the trenches
- 2:09:49Speaker 10: with you anymore. I remember coming to your locker and
- 2:09:52Speaker 10: he was always right alongside you every single time we
- 2:09:54Speaker 10: saw you. What's the impact like without him?
- 2:09:57Speaker 11: So it's a lot different. I'm the older guy now
- 2:10:00Speaker 11: in the room. He uses the older guys sharing all
- 2:10:03Speaker 11: the wisdom. So I guess I took that job over
- 2:10:05Speaker 11: and now I'm sharing wisdom and sharing my knowledge of
- 2:10:08Speaker 11: the game.
- 2:10:08Speaker 10: Who would you say, from a younger guy perspective, is
- 2:10:11Speaker 10: maybe working to fill those shoes that he once had.
- 2:10:15Speaker 10: Say it one more time, who would you say, from
- 2:10:16Speaker 10: like a younger guy perspective in your room, that's taking
- 2:10:19Speaker 10: the shoes that Lawrence guy once had.
- 2:10:21Speaker 11: Uh, Well, the younger guys don't have a lot of
- 2:10:25Speaker 11: wisdom as Lown's guy. Uh So in that's case, nobody,
- 2:10:30Speaker 11: but I guess the other d tackles that that that
- 2:10:34Speaker 11: was behind Lawrences guy, armand Watts, Christian Balmore, uh Daniel Equal.
- 2:10:41Speaker 11: Those guys doing a great job.
- 2:10:42Speaker 5: Tristan Hill.
- 2:10:43Speaker 11: Those guys doing a great job playing three techniques and
- 2:10:46Speaker 11: filling in the roads that Lawrences guy was once was.
