- 2:55Speaker 3: Doctor Casey Sachs a Bridge Valley is with us.
- 2:58Speaker 6: Hey, good morning, Dave.
- 3:00Speaker 3: How's it going to see today? You picked a great
- 3:02Speaker 3: time to be here. Well, it's Radio threat.
- 3:04Speaker 6: Day to be here.
- 3:05Speaker 3: It's only next to Toyota thought.
- 3:07Speaker 7: You know.
- 3:07Speaker 6: As far as importance, Well, you're raising money for a
- 3:10Speaker 6: really terrific cause.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Yeah we are.
- 3:12Speaker 5: And again, all of our stations are not only the
- 3:15Speaker 5: stations in this building, all of our stations, but all
- 3:18Speaker 5: of us across the state are doing something right now.
- 3:20Speaker 5: I know Rob Real from our sister station ninety six
- 3:23Speaker 5: one KWS is in Morgantown at the hospital right now.
- 3:26Speaker 5: Jenny Murray, I think from V one hundred is also
- 3:28Speaker 5: up there as well. This is the thing where we
- 3:30Speaker 5: all get together, all of our stations, and we do this,
- 3:33Speaker 5: try to raise money. And we picked up WU children
- 3:37Speaker 5: just a couple of years ago, and I think, well,
- 3:39Speaker 5: this is our second year of doing it with them,
- 3:40Speaker 5: I believe, and they've just been a fantastic partner to
- 3:43Speaker 5: deal with and try trying to help out some kids
- 3:46Speaker 5: and families.
- 3:47Speaker 6: And they leave you Thomas Hospital Foundations.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Well there you go.
- 3:49Speaker 6: So we're really excited that you're doing this too.
- 3:52Speaker 5: I want to talk about Bridge Valley for a moment.
- 3:54Speaker 5: Most public schools are back in session. I know where
- 3:56Speaker 5: I live in Putnam County classes started today. Most colleges
- 3:59Speaker 5: are back to including a Bridge Valley where classes started
- 4:02Speaker 5: there on Monday. How to go for the first day?
- 4:04Speaker 6: Really agree, it's so fun to have students back on campus.
- 4:07Speaker 6: I love when the parking lots full.
- 4:09Speaker 3: It is.
- 4:09Speaker 5: Indeed, what kind of activities do you have for students
- 4:12Speaker 5: when they came back in the first day.
- 4:13Speaker 6: We always do special things for Welcome Back Week, Lots
- 4:17Speaker 6: of just stuff to get students out and engaged, things
- 4:20Speaker 6: from laser tag to lunches. But my favorite, they didn't.
- 4:23Speaker 3: Have laser tag when I was in school.
- 4:24Speaker 6: I'm sorry, you're really missing it.
- 4:26Speaker 8: Good.
- 4:27Speaker 6: My favorite thing this week has been dining with the deans.
- 4:30Speaker 6: It's lunch where students can meet the deans for their
- 4:33Speaker 6: academic areas, and I feel like it's really the beginning
- 4:36Speaker 6: of mentorship and getting more connected to programs and academic
- 4:39Speaker 6: leadership in their programs. And that's all just so important
- 4:42Speaker 6: for thinking about their workforce and careers as they move forward.
- 4:45Speaker 5: And you know, one of the great things we talk
- 4:47Speaker 5: about at Bridge Valley, we talked about it the last
- 4:49Speaker 5: time you were on is the student to teacher or
- 4:51Speaker 5: instructor ratio and dining with the deans. Is probably not
- 4:56Speaker 5: something that you're going to get at a larger university.
- 4:59Speaker 6: No, it's possible that they might do something like that
- 5:01Speaker 6: for an honors college or a first select group of students,
- 5:04Speaker 6: but it's something that we try and do for all
- 5:06Speaker 6: of our students and we've done. We did one for
- 5:09Speaker 6: engineering students in the building where they have most of
- 5:11Speaker 6: their classes, one for health science students in the building
- 5:14Speaker 6: where they have most of their classes, and then one
- 5:16Speaker 6: in Montgomery for students who have most of their classes
- 5:18Speaker 6: in Montgomery. So we really tried to make sure that
- 5:21Speaker 6: everybody would have access.
- 5:22Speaker 5: Talking to doctor Casey Saxonbridge value of the Dave Aland
- 5:24Speaker 5: Show in five Vetey Live. It's brought to you by
- 5:26Speaker 5: Morgan and Morgan with more than twenty billion dollars recovered.
- 5:28Speaker 5: They believe when you're injured, you deserve more. Morgan and
- 5:31Speaker 5: Morgan America's largest injury law firm.
- 5:33Speaker 3: I want to talk about graduation.
- 5:35Speaker 5: Classes just started, but you had a graduation of sorts
- 5:39Speaker 5: for the Green Power We.
- 5:41Speaker 6: Did so we had a cohort of GreenPower motor students
- 5:44Speaker 6: who graduated as certified production technicians yesterday. It was a
- 5:49Speaker 6: terrific ceremony out at GreenPower Motor Company. So they hosted
- 5:53Speaker 6: and we created a stage right in front of a
- 5:56Speaker 6: school bus production line, and they shut down production and
- 5:59Speaker 6: brought in a food truck and it was really celebratory.
- 6:01Speaker 6: Families all came out and we gave all of the
- 6:04Speaker 6: graduates their certificate, they walked across the stage. It was
- 6:07Speaker 6: it was a wonderful event. And Green Power actually gave
- 6:10Speaker 6: everybody a promotion who completed.
- 6:12Speaker 3: They got good, got a dollar a promotion.
- 6:15Speaker 6: They got a dollar an hour raise, which was which
- 6:17Speaker 6: was a really nice acknowledgment of the work that they
- 6:19Speaker 6: put in to get their certification and that they went
- 6:22Speaker 6: through the program and were committed to their schooling.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Now what goes into that program? What kind of things
- 6:27Speaker 3: do they learn there?
- 6:28Speaker 6: So certified Production Tech is a little bit of electrical,
- 6:31Speaker 6: a little bit green energy, a lot about batteries, certainly safety,
- 6:36Speaker 6: it's a lot about the production fabrication that's going into
- 6:40Speaker 6: making the buses that they make at the facility.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Let's talk about a business. You're doing a business happy
- 6:46Speaker 3: hour event.
- 6:46Speaker 6: We are, so if anybody's listening and their business, who's
- 6:49Speaker 6: affiliated with us or who wants to be affiliated with us.
- 6:52Speaker 6: If people have heard me talk about learn and earn
- 6:54Speaker 6: and they feel like, gosh, I would like to talk
- 6:57Speaker 6: to someone in person about this. We're doing a happy
- 6:59Speaker 6: hour on Monday at the Toyota Hall at South Charleston
- 7:03Speaker 6: and we just want people to come out and have
- 7:05Speaker 6: a drink and some appetizers and chat and learn about
- 7:07Speaker 6: the college and let us thank them for being such
- 7:10Speaker 6: good business partners.
- 7:11Speaker 5: Now, so just anybody that's contributed to anybody that anybody,
- 7:15Speaker 5: anybody can show up to.
- 7:16Speaker 3: That right what times the start?
- 7:17Speaker 6: It starts at six o'clock.
- 7:18Speaker 5: Okay, and that's in the Toyota Hall. It's not hard
- 7:20Speaker 5: to find that Toyota Hall sign is.
- 7:22Speaker 3: A big, pretty big, pretty big building. Yeah, pretty big sign.
- 7:24Speaker 6: But it's the if the South Charleston Tech Park, the
- 7:28Speaker 6: space that used to be now, so a lot of
- 7:30Speaker 6: people are more familiar with its life in the past.
- 7:32Speaker 3: Sure.
- 7:33Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 7:33Speaker 5: I always helps to mention that, you know, one of
- 7:35Speaker 5: the sponsors to the show is the Charleston dirty Birds,
- 7:39Speaker 5: our hometown baseball team.
- 7:40Speaker 3: And I'll go ahead and tell you something about then.
- 7:41Speaker 5: They're going to wrap up their road series at Southern
- 7:43Speaker 5: Maryland tonight and If you need tickets, schedule promotions, dirty
- 7:47Speaker 5: birds gear or whatever, just visit Dirtybirds baseball dot com.
- 7:50Speaker 5: But Bridge Valley is going to take over the ballpark,
- 7:53Speaker 5: or not take over, you're just going to sort of.
- 7:54Speaker 6: Be there sponsor. So next Thursday, Bridge Valley Night at
- 7:58Speaker 6: the power Park, everyone had come out. It's a very
- 8:01Speaker 6: family friendly event, as you know, if you're a Uribirds fan,
- 8:05Speaker 6: it's the kind of place where you really can't take
- 8:06Speaker 6: kids and sit and watch some really fun baseball. I know,
- 8:10Speaker 6: I took my dad out when he came to visit me,
- 8:11Speaker 6: and we had such a good time. He thought the
- 8:14Speaker 6: people who cheer behind home base were a plus.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Did he get to meet the toast Master, Rod Blackstone?
- 8:19Speaker 6: He did. He was really excited.
- 8:20Speaker 5: You know, everybody should should meet and hang out with
- 8:23Speaker 5: Rod Blackstone at least once or twice, even whether it's
- 8:25Speaker 5: even didn't have to necessarily be a game, just anywhere,
- 8:27Speaker 5: because the guy is walking fun.
- 8:29Speaker 3: I mean, I mean he really is. Well I'm glad
- 8:31Speaker 3: they get And what night is that at the ballpark?
- 8:33Speaker 6: Thursday night?
- 8:33Speaker 3: That is next Thursday night, the twenty ninth. All right,
- 8:37Speaker 3: and you're going to Harvard.
- 8:39Speaker 6: I am so This was really a fun opportunity. Harvard,
- 8:43Speaker 6: the School of Government there, called and said, we put
- 8:46Speaker 6: on a conference once a year about innovative school models,
- 8:49Speaker 6: and we want to feature West Virginia. We're really interested
- 8:51Speaker 6: in the Win Academy at Bridge Valley. Will you come
- 8:54Speaker 6: out to Harvard and teach us what it is that
- 8:56Speaker 6: you're doing in West Virginia.
- 8:57Speaker 3: So I hold on, and this is what I want to.
- 8:59Speaker 5: I want to I want to rack them up and
- 9:00Speaker 5: shoot them again that my grandfather has to say on this.
- 9:03Speaker 5: Harvard reached out to someone, a smaller college in West
- 9:08Speaker 5: Virginia called Bridge Valley, you specifically, but representing your institution
- 9:13Speaker 5: from Harvard, wanted you to come there to show them
- 9:17Speaker 5: what we're doing here.
- 9:18Speaker 3: At Bridge Valley.
- 9:19Speaker 6: Yes, it's great, isn't it.
- 9:20Speaker 3: That's pretty cool.
- 9:21Speaker 6: It is really cool, and part of that is such
- 9:23Speaker 6: a testament to my team. It's a really innovative model
- 9:26Speaker 6: getting students in high school on a pathway to be
- 9:29Speaker 6: able to complete a career early, get into the workforce earlier,
- 9:32Speaker 6: for anyone who knows what they want to do. It's
- 9:34Speaker 6: such a great deal. And so we'll be talking about
- 9:39Speaker 6: it here in a couple of weeks.
- 9:40Speaker 3: That's really cool.
- 9:40Speaker 5: I'm actually familiar with that particular school that you're talking
- 9:43Speaker 5: about because in my past life and some governmental things
- 9:45Speaker 5: I did, I actually did some work with that school.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Now, they didn't invite me to come up to speak.
- 9:48Speaker 3: They came here, you can come take you with me.
- 9:51Speaker 5: Yes, well, I've never been to Harvard, so I know
- 9:54Speaker 5: listeners are going, Really you didn't go to Harvard day
- 9:56Speaker 5: but find that hard.
- 9:56Speaker 3: To believe, they said, tell me and cheek.
- 9:58Speaker 5: But I am familiar with it school to government up
- 10:00Speaker 5: there because they have visited West Virginia several times. And
- 10:03Speaker 5: I got a chance to work with them and take
- 10:05Speaker 5: them through some areas of southern West Virginia that those.
- 10:08Speaker 3: Those students and I call them kids, but at that
- 10:11Speaker 3: point they weren't kids anymore. They were they were adults.
- 10:13Speaker 5: I got a chance to take them to McDowell County
- 10:16Speaker 5: and I got a chance to take them through southern
- 10:18Speaker 5: They weren't.
- 10:19Speaker 3: As one of them said, I don't think we're in
- 10:20Speaker 3: Cambridge anymore.
- 10:21Speaker 6: Yeah, it's really different.
- 10:23Speaker 3: It was very different.
- 10:24Speaker 5: There's a learning experience for them as well. And you
- 10:26Speaker 5: got a golf tournament coming up.
- 10:28Speaker 6: We do. We have a golf tournament coming up in
- 10:29Speaker 6: October and Little Creek. We're really excited about it. If
- 10:32Speaker 6: you want to play golf, have a foursome, come out
- 10:34Speaker 6: and support the college. It's for student scholarships.
- 10:37Speaker 5: All right.
- 10:37Speaker 3: What else is going on? Anything other than we didn't.
- 10:40Speaker 6: Cover so many things, But we'll pause.
- 10:43Speaker 5: There now, Doctor Casey Sacksonbridge Valley. I always appreciate you
- 10:47Speaker 5: stopping by and give.
- 10:48Speaker 6: Us the website Bridge Valley dot edu.
- 10:50Speaker 3: And you got a lot of exciting things going on.
- 10:53Speaker 5: The scholarship program that you do, I mean is where
- 10:57Speaker 5: you work with businesses and I mean it's it's going
- 10:59Speaker 5: on almost going back to the beginning where we started
- 11:01Speaker 5: with the green Power thing. That's just like one part
- 11:03Speaker 5: of it. It's an amazing program.
- 11:05Speaker 7: You're going there.
- 11:06Speaker 6: Green Power is a really good example of what we
- 11:08Speaker 6: can do with a business, and so any other business
- 11:10Speaker 6: that's excited or wants to hire a cohort of people
- 11:13Speaker 6: were really happy to do customized training for them.
- 11:15Speaker 5: I like that customized training. In other words, business leaders
- 11:19Speaker 5: contact Bridge Valley and say here's what we need. And
- 11:22Speaker 5: I think this is such a great model. And this
- 11:24Speaker 5: is going on at some other institutions of higher learning
- 11:26Speaker 5: as well across the country that for so long, these
- 11:29Speaker 5: learning factories, and I hate to use that term, but
- 11:34Speaker 5: institutions of higher learning have produced and they've trained up
- 11:37Speaker 5: these students and sent them out to the business world,
- 11:40Speaker 5: and maybe the business world looks at them and say, well,
- 11:42Speaker 5: that's not what we need. It's great that you have
- 11:44Speaker 5: this certification of this degree, but this is not what
- 11:47Speaker 5: we need.
- 11:48Speaker 3: Now you guys.
- 11:49Speaker 5: And another institutions too have kind of reversed it in
- 11:52Speaker 5: the business people. You're going to business people first and
- 11:54Speaker 5: saying what do we need to teach these students.
- 11:56Speaker 6: That's right. It's a real partnership. And we're so thankful
- 12:00Speaker 6: of the businesses in this area who are committed to saying,
- 12:03Speaker 6: let's make sure we train the workforce that we need
- 12:06Speaker 6: because that's what's going to help get people jobs here
- 12:08Speaker 6: and be able to stay here. And so that's all
- 12:10Speaker 6: really important that we work together, all right.
- 12:12Speaker 3: Doctor Katie Sacks, it's always a pleasure to have you
- 12:14Speaker 3: on the show. Thanks a lot, Thank you so much.

- 16:00Speaker 5: we're at WVRC Media Charleston. We're also doing it in
- 16:02Speaker 5: Morgantown and all of our places. A couple of our
- 16:04Speaker 5: folks from here in Charleston actually went to Morgantown up
- 16:07Speaker 5: to the hospital.
- 16:08Speaker 3: So they're up there today.
- 16:09Speaker 5: One of the folks that's helping making our coverage possible,
- 16:13Speaker 5: and she did a nice little donation forards.
- 16:15Speaker 3: Teresa how good morning. How are you?
- 16:17Speaker 10: Good morning, Dave, how are you doing?
- 16:18Speaker 3: And Teresa how? You are a candidate for.
- 16:20Speaker 10: House District fifty two, which is the Upper Canal Valley, Okay.
- 16:24Speaker 3: And so mainly the Upper Kanal Valley.
- 16:27Speaker 5: What communities for those who are listening to I mean,
- 16:29Speaker 5: just give me a few of the communities. And when
- 16:31Speaker 5: we say Upper Kanal Valley, just so people that may
- 16:33Speaker 5: be listening aren't familiar with them.
- 16:35Speaker 10: It is the part of Kanaw City that is around
- 16:37Speaker 10: the Mall area. It goes up to Montgomery that also
- 16:41Speaker 10: slides over into Fayette County. You cross the river and
- 16:45Speaker 10: you go from Houston all the way down to.
- 16:47Speaker 3: Rand That is a pretty diverse area. I mean, as
- 16:49Speaker 3: far as it's a lot of ground to cover, Yes.
- 16:51Speaker 7: It is.
- 16:52Speaker 10: It's my hometown. I grew up in Marmatt so well
- 16:55Speaker 10: versed in the area, and you know, love where I live.
- 16:58Speaker 3: What do they call people from mar Matt's Are you Marmadians?
- 17:01Speaker 10: Marmitian?
- 17:02Speaker 3: Marmitian? All right, make a note of that, Ryan, they're
- 17:04Speaker 3: Marmeician Libans.
- 17:05Speaker 9: I did not know that.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Yes, see, I've learned something today. Marmitians. I kind of
- 17:09Speaker 3: like that.
- 17:10Speaker 5: So why are you getting involved in this camp? Not
- 17:11Speaker 5: the political campaign, We'll talk about that a little bit
- 17:13Speaker 5: later on, but why did you decide to help us
- 17:15Speaker 5: out with this WV children's thing.
- 17:17Speaker 10: I've been a nurse for a little over twenty six
- 17:19Speaker 10: years and kids are near and dear to my heart.
- 17:22Speaker 10: They're the future of our nation. And I also grew
- 17:26Speaker 10: up with a childhood friend and this has stuck in
- 17:29Speaker 10: my mind and my heart my entire life. Her sister
- 17:34Speaker 10: was diagnosed with leukemia. And you know, when Ron contacted
- 17:39Speaker 10: me about the potential to do an ad, I'm like, oh, absolutely,
- 17:43Speaker 10: you know this is something that we need to make
- 17:45Speaker 10: sure there's support, great awareness, and you know, as I said,
- 17:50Speaker 10: these kids are the future of our nation and we
- 17:53Speaker 10: need to do.
- 17:53Speaker 3: All that we can to help, and sometimes, Teresa, that's
- 17:57Speaker 3: what it takes.
- 17:58Speaker 5: I mean, we all know that this is a very,
- 18:00Speaker 5: very worthwhile cause that all of our stations are involved
- 18:03Speaker 5: in in the community and the business community as well,
- 18:05Speaker 5: But sometimes it does take that personal story, you know,
- 18:09Speaker 5: kind of like.
- 18:10Speaker 10: What you had, absolutely and when you look at the
- 18:12Speaker 10: children that we have in our state of West Virginia,
- 18:16Speaker 10: we really need to push hard so that way we
- 18:18Speaker 10: can do all that we can to make sure that
- 18:21Speaker 10: they are successful. You know that their health is taken
- 18:25Speaker 10: care of, and you know they have what they need
- 18:27Speaker 10: to be able to grow up and mature into adults.
- 18:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it's very important.
- 18:31Speaker 12: You know.
- 18:31Speaker 5: We'll talk with Teresa Howe, who's a political candidate. We're
- 18:34Speaker 5: going to let her talk about that a little bit
- 18:35Speaker 5: later on, but she's talking what made you want to
- 18:37Speaker 5: decide to be a nurse?
- 18:39Speaker 10: When I was in high school, I had a algebra
- 18:42Speaker 10: teacher's name was mister Taylor, and he saw the potential.
- 18:46Speaker 10: I was great at math. I was very caring and kind.
- 18:50Speaker 10: I was the class president my senior year of high school,
- 18:54Speaker 10: and I was well organized.
- 18:55Speaker 6: I was a leader.
- 18:57Speaker 10: And he said, have you ever thought about going into healthcare,
- 19:00Speaker 10: and I had not at that point as far as
- 19:02Speaker 10: nursing goes. I thought of another field. He's like, why
- 19:06Speaker 10: don't you look into it and consider it? And so
- 19:08Speaker 10: I was a volleyball player of many years, and I
- 19:12Speaker 10: teamed up with the University of Charleston and the coaches
- 19:17Speaker 10: there were. One of them was also my junior high
- 19:19Speaker 10: school my junior high school coach, and so I ended
- 19:22Speaker 10: up getting a scholarship and I played there for a
- 19:24Speaker 10: short while and went through nursing school and I graduated
- 19:28Speaker 10: from the University of Charleston with a bachelor's degree.
- 19:30Speaker 6: And I just love the field. Right.
- 19:33Speaker 5: Well, we're a better place, I think for you being
- 19:35Speaker 5: a part of it. Let's talk about your political campaign.
- 19:37Speaker 5: We'll give you an opportunity to do that. You are
- 19:40Speaker 5: running for office again. Why did you decide to run
- 19:42Speaker 5: for a district? What was the district against?
- 19:43Speaker 6: It's district fifty two fifty two.
- 19:45Speaker 3: Yeah, why did you decide to run for office?
- 19:48Speaker 10: The Upper Kennal Valley. Each person that I talked to,
- 19:51Speaker 10: they are really looking for a representative that is engaged
- 19:54Speaker 10: in the community, that is well known and has a
- 19:58Speaker 10: deep commitment and love to see in great things for
- 20:01Speaker 10: the Upper Canal Valley and I'm that person. We have
- 20:05Speaker 10: we sit on one of the richest places, I believe,
- 20:08Speaker 10: in West Virginia with all of the resources we have.
- 20:11Speaker 10: We have coal, oil gas, we have as far as
- 20:16Speaker 10: transportation goes, we have highway, we have river, we have railway,
- 20:21Speaker 10: and so I really want to see great things happen
- 20:25Speaker 10: for our kids, especially. I have a deep seated love
- 20:29Speaker 10: for our seniors. I want to see them to be
- 20:30Speaker 10: able to retire and really enjoy the environment and things
- 20:35Speaker 10: that we have. So those are just some of the
- 20:37Speaker 10: things that I'm very interested in.
- 20:39Speaker 5: Well have you on as we get a little bit
- 20:40Speaker 5: closer to the campaign, So you've been out and about
- 20:42Speaker 5: shaking hands and knocking doors and doing all.
- 20:45Speaker 3: The doing all the stuff.
- 20:47Speaker 10: That's the great part about the campaign is you get
- 20:49Speaker 10: to go out and talk to everybody and see what
- 20:52Speaker 10: their issues are. And that's what this campaign is all about.
- 20:55Speaker 10: It's about the people in the community, their needs, you know,
- 20:59Speaker 10: things that they would like to see changed, things that
- 21:02Speaker 10: they want to see grow. And that's what this campaign's about.
- 21:05Speaker 3: All Right, Well, Teresa, we're gonna go and let you go.
- 21:07Speaker 5: I appreciate you stopping by the studio again helping us out,
- 21:10Speaker 5: and thank you for your support of the WVRC Media
- 21:13Speaker 5: Cares for Kids Radio Thought benefiting WVU Children's I appreciate
- 21:16Speaker 5: you being here.
- 21:17Speaker 3: Thanks a lot. Now, now your job is to go
- 21:19Speaker 3: out and tell all your friends that they need to
- 21:21Speaker 3: and be a part of it as well.
- 21:22Speaker 6: That's exactly right.
- 21:23Speaker 13: Thank you for that.
- 21:24Speaker 5: So you need to go ahead and say number one,
- 21:26Speaker 5: I need you to vote for me, and number two
- 21:27Speaker 5: I need you to do this right.
- 21:28Speaker 3: Yes, Teresa, I appreciate you being here. Thanks a lot. Well,
- 21:31Speaker 3: we had let you go, thanks a lot.
- 21:32Speaker 5: I appreciate your free You're free to go now, Teresa

- 21:53Speaker 5: Metro nine to one one, and he tells me that
- 21:55Speaker 5: the Metro nine to one one Employees Association is pledging
- 21:58Speaker 5: five hundred dollars of the children's hospital. How cool is
- 22:01Speaker 5: that this is part of the money, he tells me
- 22:03Speaker 5: in the text, that they made off their pickleball tournament.
- 22:06Speaker 3: So that is cool.
- 22:07Speaker 5: So Johnny, we appreciate you five hundred dollars, and we

- 23:08Speaker 5: Peyton Law for man.
- 23:09Speaker 3: You have have you done enough radio today? Dude?
- 23:11Speaker 14: Well, I've been making my rounds.
- 23:12Speaker 3: They said the best for last right, Well you started
- 23:15Speaker 3: off on the on the weekly show that the lawyer on.
- 23:20Speaker 14: This Okay, good good. At least you and at least
- 23:24Speaker 14: two other people work because we had two calls. So no,
- 23:27Speaker 14: I think we get a pretty good little audience. We've
- 23:29Speaker 14: been doing it every Thursday at eight twenty for since
- 23:31Speaker 14: nineteen eight ninety nine something like that, every single Thursday,
- 23:35Speaker 14: and we try not to miss so. But yeah, we've
- 23:38Speaker 14: been making the rounds to talk about this great fundraiser
- 23:41Speaker 14: that you're doing it.
- 23:42Speaker 3: Sell was it?
- 23:43Speaker 14: Johnny Rufford called in, Yeah, using some of the money
- 23:45Speaker 14: they made from the pickleball to which is great. That's
- 23:47Speaker 14: in Nitro where our office is. I actually played last
- 23:49Speaker 14: year in the inaugural one. I was out of town.
- 23:51Speaker 14: This year. But pickleball is a great sport, and it's
- 23:54Speaker 14: great that they can use some of those funds to
- 23:56Speaker 14: pass along to the w Children's Hospital.
- 23:58Speaker 5: Indeed, and I've tried to wrap my head around because
- 24:02Speaker 5: it's been a long time Tom since a sport has
- 24:05Speaker 5: come in and really just took off. Maybe just because
- 24:08Speaker 5: there haven't been a whole lot of newer sports of
- 24:09Speaker 5: the last hundred years.
- 24:10Speaker 3: Well, pickle ball is so popular, man, I have my
- 24:12Speaker 3: theory on it.
- 24:13Speaker 14: I mean, I played tennis a little bit when I
- 24:14Speaker 14: was younger, and then play some ping pong if I'm
- 24:17Speaker 14: out a party or something. In college, played some ping pong.
- 24:19Speaker 3: But pickleball, you know what you mean when you say play.
- 24:22Speaker 3: When you said play ping pong in college, that's right.
- 24:24Speaker 14: It was a modified game but good. But you know,
- 24:27Speaker 14: I think it appeals. You know, I started playing it
- 24:30Speaker 14: not knowing what it was. And it's easy to play.
- 24:34Speaker 2: You know.
- 24:34Speaker 14: It's if you play tennis and try and learn, if
- 24:37Speaker 14: you play against somebody advanced, they just you can't return
- 24:40Speaker 14: a serve.
- 24:40Speaker 3: You can't get a.
- 24:41Speaker 14: Serve in this This game is designed to make it
- 24:44Speaker 14: easy to play so that you know it's not you're
- 24:46Speaker 14: not getting the ball hit at you hard and slammed
- 24:48Speaker 14: and you can keep the game going, which is why
- 24:50Speaker 14: I think it's appeal appeals to a lot of people,
- 24:52Speaker 14: whether you're old young. We have you know, eighteen year
- 24:55Speaker 14: olds playing with eighty year olds and competing and and uh,
- 24:59Speaker 14: it's just the nature of the game. So if you're
- 25:01Speaker 14: thinking about playing picktball, I encourage you to do it.
- 25:02Speaker 14: It's it's it's fun, it's exercise, but it's not like
- 25:06Speaker 14: running a marathon. I mean, it's pretty pretty laid back.
- 25:09Speaker 14: Is it's sort of sort of.
- 25:11Speaker 3: A leisure sport.
- 25:11Speaker 14: But you know, you get your blood pumping a little
- 25:13Speaker 14: bit and breathe hard some and it's fun and it's
- 25:16Speaker 14: the most important thing.
- 25:17Speaker 5: Talk with Tom Payton again from the Peyton Law Firm,
- 25:19Speaker 5: and we are in the middle of our wv RC
- 25:21Speaker 5: Media Cares for Kids radio thon that you guys decided
- 25:24Speaker 5: to be a part of this and what one of
- 25:27Speaker 5: the great things I like about you and your dad
- 25:29Speaker 5: and all the people that you have there at the
- 25:30Speaker 5: Peyton Law Firm with your office in Nitro, is that
- 25:32Speaker 5: you're constantly doing things for the community. Sometimes they're not
- 25:35Speaker 5: always publicized, but that's not why you do it.
- 25:37Speaker 14: That's right. We try and help the community out and
- 25:39Speaker 14: we've kind of steered. You know, some of it is marketing,
- 25:43Speaker 14: but I think you know, if you can do things
- 25:45Speaker 14: on a personal level for people, that's frankly how we
- 25:48Speaker 14: You don't see a whole lot. I got a couple
- 25:49Speaker 14: of billboards and we don't see any TV commercials from us.
- 25:52Speaker 14: We do our radio show and we pay for that.
- 25:54Speaker 14: It's advertising. A lot of people think it's the other
- 25:57Speaker 14: way around, and we help people on that show. But
- 25:59Speaker 14: people get to know us, and that's how we get
- 26:02Speaker 14: most of our businesses referrals or people that have had
- 26:05Speaker 14: us in the past or know us. And so when
- 26:07Speaker 14: you contribute to a local sports team or in this
- 26:10Speaker 14: case a local calls, you know, on a state wide
- 26:13Speaker 14: level the Western Children's Hospital, it gives you that connection
- 26:16Speaker 14: and we really like doing that and you feel the
- 26:19Speaker 14: impact of it because you can see what it's doing
- 26:21Speaker 14: in the community. And this one we've given for years
- 26:24Speaker 14: through this radiothon. But you know, you might remember maybe
- 26:27Speaker 14: three four years ago it was Saint Jude, which is
- 26:30Speaker 14: great and then no better cause than that, but you
- 26:32Speaker 14: couldn't track where it went necessarily they're based in Tennessee,
- 26:35Speaker 14: and and so when when WVU built this facility for
- 26:41Speaker 14: children here up in Morgantown, I just reinforced our already
- 26:48Speaker 14: committed pledge to this, to this cause. And it's good,
- 26:53Speaker 14: you know, you get I've got two kids, you know,
- 26:55Speaker 14: my daughter Grace, she's twenty five and she's pretty much
- 26:57Speaker 14: flooding the coop now. And I got a twenty one
- 26:59Speaker 14: year old is finishing up college in Louisiana. But uh,
- 27:03Speaker 14: you know, there's nothing worse if you have kids than
- 27:05Speaker 14: having your kids really sick. You know, you just feel desperate.
- 27:08Speaker 14: You'd rather be sick one hundred times ever before your
- 27:10Speaker 14: kids would be sick. And not everybody can afford to
- 27:12Speaker 14: fly across the country and get the best treatment in
- 27:15Speaker 14: the world. And so now with this facility in WU
- 27:18Speaker 14: and Morgantown, I think it gives some local folks the
- 27:21Speaker 14: opportunity to get some state of the art treatment that
- 27:22Speaker 14: they might not be able to get otherwise. And if
- 27:25Speaker 14: we can just help a little bit with that, then
- 27:27Speaker 14: then we're happy to do it. And we're going to
- 27:29Speaker 14: get five hundred dollars. We'll try and get some more
- 27:31Speaker 14: next year. But any little bit helps because it really
- 27:35Speaker 14: adds up. It really adds up. So if anybody out
- 27:37Speaker 14: there is listening and thinking about giving, I encourage you
- 27:39Speaker 14: to do.
- 27:40Speaker 5: So here's what I don't want to put words anybody
- 27:42Speaker 5: that don't want to get you in trouble, Tom, But
- 27:43Speaker 5: here's what I think you should do. Because I know
- 27:45Speaker 5: all these attorneys, I know that you get you, you
- 27:47Speaker 5: have a working relationship. You should challenge all the other
- 27:50Speaker 5: law firms in the area.
- 27:51Speaker 14: Sure, we have done that before. And you know, if
- 27:56Speaker 14: you I would ask them to look at their advertising budget. Yeah,
- 27:59Speaker 14: look at their advertising budget and if most of them,
- 28:02Speaker 14: if they pay you know, one month's advertising budget, maybe
- 28:06Speaker 14: five percent of it, that would be a decent donation
- 28:10Speaker 14: that would help this cause a lot.
- 28:11Speaker 3: So the challenge has been thrown out with a little
- 28:13Speaker 3: help for me.
- 28:14Speaker 14: I'm sure with that challenge they'll one up me real quick. Okay, well,
- 28:17Speaker 14: there you go, but that's fine. We will accept that here. Now,
- 28:20Speaker 14: if you want to hire a lawyer there, yes, yes,
- 28:23Speaker 14: then I would ask you to consider us. And one
- 28:25Speaker 14: of the reasons we like giving locals because we were

- 33:34Speaker 9: Yeah? Yeah, it's exciting, man. You've got a lot of
- 33:36Speaker 9: activity hitre in the building and people calling and all
- 33:38Speaker 9: that stuff, people in.
- 33:39Speaker 3: And out and out.
- 33:41Speaker 5: Well, here's the thing about and I think it's something
- 33:43Speaker 5: that I want to fall up on some of the
- 33:45Speaker 5: Tom said, there are a couple of moments ago.
- 33:46Speaker 3: Greg, it's uh uh.
- 33:47Speaker 5: You know, we for years had a relationship with Saint
- 33:50Speaker 5: Jud's and Saint Judess is a wonderful organization, but sometimes
- 33:52Speaker 5: when you deal with national organizations, you don't know where
- 33:54Speaker 5: that money is actually going. And so we decided to
- 33:57Speaker 5: bring it back home to West Virginia. WVRC Media is
- 34:00Speaker 5: a one of the few local, uh one of the
- 34:03Speaker 5: few media outlets in West Virginia that is from West Virginia.
- 34:06Speaker 3: Our people are here, you know, all over the state.
- 34:10Speaker 3: So that's why we like to get involved in this.
- 34:12Speaker 5: So I got the TV on the studio here, Greg
- 34:14Speaker 5: been watching with Beta Breath. I'm sure the DNC in Chicago, right,
- 34:18Speaker 5: I have not watched any of it.
- 34:21Speaker 3: Don't You sometimes want to know though, what the other
- 34:23Speaker 3: side's doing. I mean I've seen you don't watch a
- 34:25Speaker 3: lot of televisions.
- 34:26Speaker 9: I don't want. Yeah, I don't watch TV that much.
- 34:28Speaker 9: Uh well, I don't like watch like news TV. I
- 34:31Speaker 9: watched like you know, you know, like British Crime TV
- 34:34Speaker 9: or something, you know what I mean, like something you.
- 34:36Speaker 3: Would that's something you would watch.
- 34:38Speaker 9: I mean, I just keep it. The TV for me
- 34:40Speaker 9: is like the distraction thing when you're like doing stuff
- 34:43Speaker 9: at the house. It's not like not a it's not
- 34:44Speaker 9: like a planned activity anyway. Uh you know, I've seen
- 34:50Speaker 9: a little bit of it. I mean some of the
- 34:51Speaker 9: stuff seems pretty I think they're like purposefully not wanting
- 34:55Speaker 9: people to watch though, right. I mean, I think for
- 34:57Speaker 9: them at this point, it's like, hey, you know, they
- 35:01Speaker 9: were any really really bad spot with Biden. They ousted him.
- 35:05Speaker 9: They you know, this whole you know convention is to
- 35:09Speaker 9: nominate somebody that didn't receive any primary votes with the
- 35:13Speaker 9: help of super delegates and all that stuff, which I
- 35:16Speaker 9: just think is so you know, for the party that's
- 35:18Speaker 9: like save democracy. I mean, they couldn't be any less
- 35:21Speaker 9: democratic than what they actually are. But you know, so
- 35:25Speaker 9: I haven't like watched any of it live. I've seen
- 35:27Speaker 9: some clips and some stuff like that. You know, they're
- 35:31Speaker 9: just really really out of touch for West Virginia. I mean, look,
- 35:34Speaker 9: I understand there's you know, some of the super blue
- 35:37Speaker 9: big cities that that that's that's just who they represent now, right.
- 35:40Speaker 9: I mean, this isn't you know, this whole thing isn't
- 35:43Speaker 9: like kind of right versus left anymore. It's just sort
- 35:46Speaker 9: of you know, the rural versus urban.
- 35:48Speaker 5: Yeah, Gregor, I heard a comment yesterday, Honey Ti mayor
- 35:53Speaker 5: Steve Williams, who's running for governor of course against Patrick Morris.
- 35:56Speaker 5: He was on Hoppy yesterday and I didn't hear the
- 35:59Speaker 5: exact leading question, but basically I did hear the response
- 36:02Speaker 5: from from from mister Williams, Mayor Williams, and he basically said, look,
- 36:05Speaker 5: I'm not a national Democrat. I may have a D
- 36:08Speaker 5: after my name, but I could not be any more
- 36:11Speaker 5: different than the Democrats on the national level. If any
- 36:15Speaker 5: Democrat has a chance of winning in a state like
- 36:17Speaker 5: West Virginia, they have to say things like that.
- 36:20Speaker 9: They'd have to not just say it, but they'd also
- 36:22Speaker 9: have to believe it and do it and improve it.
- 36:26Speaker 9: And it'd be really hard. I mean, look, you're not
- 36:28Speaker 9: none of these statewide. You know, all of the statewide
- 36:31Speaker 9: Republican candidates are going to win all of it.
- 36:33Speaker 3: I think it's pretty fair man.
- 36:35Speaker 9: And almost all of the Republican candidates are going to
- 36:38Speaker 9: win all all the way up and down the ballot.
- 36:42Speaker 9: And you have a few places here and there, you know,
- 36:46Speaker 9: we were we had a meeting the other day kind
- 36:48Speaker 9: of with some legislators and future, you know, potential future legislators.
- 36:51Speaker 9: I mean, almost half of the contested House of Delegate
- 36:54Speaker 9: races in the state are here in Kanan County, you know.
- 36:58Speaker 9: So I think that you know, Charleston is still an
- 37:00Speaker 9: area where you have some competitive races, Wheeling, Morgantown, you know, Huntington.
- 37:06Speaker 9: But in the rest of the state, I mean, it's
- 37:08Speaker 9: just whoever the Republican's nominate, it's gonna win. And that's
- 37:11Speaker 9: almost the case everywhere.
- 37:13Speaker 3: The reason I want to have you on today, I
- 37:14Speaker 3: want to talk about this list. Your group.
- 37:16Speaker 5: You're affiliated with the group. You're the executive director. I
- 37:18Speaker 5: guess that's your title of Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse, and
- 37:22Speaker 5: you your organization every year puts out a list of
- 37:25Speaker 5: what they call the Dirty dozen. Explained the definition of
- 37:29Speaker 5: what the dirty doesn't is.
- 37:30Speaker 9: We essentially you know, look, the the personal injury lawsuit
- 37:34Speaker 9: industry is a big business in West Virginia. You know,
- 37:36Speaker 9: you've got you've got you know, several dozen people that
- 37:41Speaker 9: make a lot, a lot of money. I mean we're talking,
- 37:43Speaker 9: you know, look, and there's we don't I don't want
- 37:46Speaker 9: to paint a big wide brush that's saying like oh,
- 37:49Speaker 9: we hate all lawyers and we hate all lawsuits and
- 37:51Speaker 9: all this stuff. It's not really where we're coming from.
- 37:53Speaker 9: I mean for us, it's like, you know, it is
- 37:55Speaker 9: a big business. Suing people in West Virginia is a
- 37:58Speaker 9: big business. There's a certain type of lawsuits and things
- 38:02Speaker 9: like that that we really focus on. We use this
- 38:04Speaker 9: list to focus on like saying, hey, look here's where
- 38:07Speaker 9: that that top group of the wealthiest of the personal
- 38:11Speaker 9: injury lawsuit and industry members here in West Virginia. They
- 38:15Speaker 9: go out and pick a hand. They go out and
- 38:17Speaker 9: pick some races across the state that they really invest in.
- 38:20Speaker 2: Right.
- 38:20Speaker 9: I mean, this isn't like all you know, Joe's buddies
- 38:23Speaker 9: with Jim and he gave him money. I mean this
- 38:25Speaker 9: is you know, some delegate in the you know, two
- 38:28Speaker 9: hours away got twelve thousand dollars of contributions from Charles
- 38:33Speaker 9: Liberal Democrat Charleston Lawyers. Well why is that right? I
- 38:36Speaker 9: mean you look at it and say, why is that?
- 38:38Speaker 7: You know?
- 38:39Speaker 9: And so we've been doing it for honestly, we've probably
- 38:41Speaker 9: been doing it for almost twenty years. And this year's list,
- 38:45Speaker 9: you know, without having to go through and name all
- 38:47Speaker 9: the names and all that stuff. I mean, what you
- 38:49Speaker 9: know this year's list, half of it really are just
- 38:52Speaker 9: liberals that wouldn't even my I mean, nobody wants to
- 38:54Speaker 9: be on a negative list, right, but I mean they
- 38:56Speaker 9: would just say, yeah, those are my buddies. That's money,
- 38:57Speaker 9: you know, I take money from those people.
- 38:59Speaker 3: You But there are Republicans on the list though, But
- 39:02Speaker 3: this year more safe.
- 39:03Speaker 5: And the reason I say that I mentioned this GON
- 39:05Speaker 5: show yesterday Greg's I don't want people to think, well,
- 39:07Speaker 5: this is just Greg Thomas coming in and just trashing
- 39:09Speaker 5: all all the Democrats, because you got Republicans on this
- 39:12Speaker 5: list as well.
- 39:13Speaker 9: And that's and that's why this is probably newsworthy this
- 39:16Speaker 9: time more so than most times. And I think of
- 39:20Speaker 9: the Republicans on the list, I think they're really in
- 39:22Speaker 9: two categories I think some of them really are you know,
- 39:25Speaker 9: just trial lawyer Republicans that have you know, either our
- 39:29Speaker 9: trial lawyers themselves or or you know, associated with, you know,
- 39:33Speaker 9: industries that are closely tied to the personal injury lawsuit industry.
- 39:38Speaker 9: There's also a couple that we used to support, that
- 39:42Speaker 9: used to be with us that now what happens, right
- 39:46Speaker 9: is people get in tough campaigns and they got to
- 39:50Speaker 9: start using campaign contributions and they'll take them from anywhere.
- 39:52Speaker 9: And we get that, right. There's just some people that
- 39:54Speaker 9: that's the way it is. So there's a difference though
- 39:58Speaker 9: between saying like, all right, I used to be pro
- 40:00Speaker 9: legal reform and I took twenty thousand dollars in personal
- 40:03Speaker 9: injury lawyers, and now I'm against legal reform. Right now,
- 40:06Speaker 9: I'm with them after I've taken the money. And that's
- 40:09Speaker 9: the case, you know, Patricia Rutgers under Patricia Rutgers pretty
- 40:13Speaker 9: much that person.
- 40:13Speaker 5: That's the name that really stuck. And I do have
- 40:16Speaker 5: the entire list, and let me ask you this, where
- 40:18Speaker 5: can people see this.
- 40:19Speaker 9: Listen on our website wvkl A dot org.
- 40:22Speaker 5: Okay, but the name that really stuck out to me
- 40:24Speaker 5: in this list and you have them ranked one to twelve,
- 40:27Speaker 5: with one being the person that took the most money
- 40:30Speaker 5: from Laarge. But but Patricia Rucker, I mean, nobody would
- 40:34Speaker 5: ever ever think that Patricia Rutger state a Senate District sixteen.
- 40:40Speaker 9: Is that right?
- 40:40Speaker 15: Yeah?
- 40:40Speaker 9: Out in the far eastern Paia, nobody And.
- 40:42Speaker 5: If you know anything about Patricia Rucker, with all due respect,
- 40:45Speaker 5: nobody would ever paint her as.
- 40:46Speaker 3: Being far left, Greg. I mean, if anything, she is
- 40:49Speaker 3: far far far right.
- 40:51Speaker 9: Well and until not on legal reform, and it's something
- 40:55Speaker 9: that you know, she used to support tort reform and
- 40:58Speaker 9: then you know she gotten some tough and you know,
- 41:01Speaker 9: you need the campaign contributions, and she has changed her
- 41:05Speaker 9: you know, she has kind of changed her tune on
- 41:07Speaker 9: that front. You know a lot of the other ones
- 41:10Speaker 9: that you know a lot of the other Republicans that
- 41:11Speaker 9: have taken it haven't taken as much. And they're you know,
- 41:14Speaker 9: probably people that you know, I would guess it's people
- 41:17Speaker 9: that the personal injury lossuit industry looked at it and said, hey,
- 41:19Speaker 9: here's somebody that's on the Judiciary Committee. They're in a
- 41:22Speaker 9: tough campaign, they're not raising much money. Let's go befriend
- 41:25Speaker 9: this person, right, you know what I mean, like, how
- 41:27Speaker 9: do we become friends with this person? Let's send him
- 41:28Speaker 9: a bunch of money and we'll become friends with them. So,
- 41:31Speaker 9: you know, for us, look, it's not like hey, we're
- 41:32Speaker 9: going to take somebody and throw them under the bus
- 41:35Speaker 9: as much as just like, hey, we're going to highlight
- 41:37Speaker 9: the fact that you've taken money from one special interest
- 41:39Speaker 9: group and see if it changes the way you vote.
- 41:42Speaker 5: Now, another one of those Republicans from this area is
- 41:45Speaker 5: a delegate Kathy has crouded.
- 41:46Speaker 9: I think she's in that ladder group that I just said.
- 41:49Speaker 9: I think she's just somebody that had not had a
- 41:51Speaker 9: real competitive election had, you know, because because Kathy has
- 41:54Speaker 9: been somebody that's been a strong advocate for legal reforms.
- 41:57Speaker 9: I mean, I think she's probably somewhere in that ladder
- 41:59Speaker 9: group that will like, Okay, you know she had she
- 42:01Speaker 9: had a really contested competitive primary out there, you know,
- 42:04Speaker 9: and she worked hard on it. So look, I think
- 42:06Speaker 9: that's somebody that you know, we've supported. You know, I
- 42:10Speaker 9: think Delegate Crouse has been a good vote and a
- 42:13Speaker 9: good conservative you know vote in the legislature. You know,
- 42:17Speaker 9: we don't you know, we don't pick and choose like
- 42:19Speaker 9: who's on there? Right, we go through and say, okay,
- 42:21Speaker 9: who took the money?
- 42:22Speaker 5: It's based on on on and again. If you go
- 42:24Speaker 5: to the website, you can see the dollar amounts.
- 42:27Speaker 3: That's how you rank them.
- 42:28Speaker 5: Number one, by the way, let me just throw this
- 42:29Speaker 5: out here, the number one with State Senator Joey Garcia
- 42:33Speaker 5: at a district thirteen, who took twenty three seven hundred dollars.
- 42:36Speaker 9: Yeah, and you look, and that's to be expected from
- 42:39Speaker 9: you know, and I don't. I don't know if Joe
- 42:41Speaker 9: if Delegate Garcia calls, you know, identifies himself as a
- 42:45Speaker 9: liberal or not. I mean, I would identify him as liberal.
- 42:48Speaker 9: But he also is a trial lawyer, right, you know.
- 42:50Speaker 9: I mean, so these are going to be people that
- 42:52Speaker 9: he knows and people he's friends with. I would guess
- 42:56Speaker 9: if I were a betting person, which I'm actually not,
- 42:59Speaker 9: if I were a betting person, I would bet the
- 43:02Speaker 9: Senator Garcia that Joey Garcia is a senator come January.
- 43:07Speaker 9: You know, he's in a he's in one of the
- 43:08Speaker 9: few districts that still the Democrats can win in. You know,
- 43:13Speaker 9: he's a likable guy, he works hard, you know, I
- 43:16Speaker 9: think he's going to be a tough one for the
- 43:18Speaker 9: Republicans to beat. And you know, and and so look,
- 43:23Speaker 9: some of these folks are you know, they're just that
- 43:25Speaker 9: they're on the other side, and that's fine. Uh, you know,
- 43:28Speaker 9: we just highlight the fact that that they are on
- 43:30Speaker 9: that other side. And then you know, for some of
- 43:32Speaker 9: these folks, it's just sort of like, hey, we're watching, right, like,
- 43:35Speaker 9: we see what's going on. We're watching. We want to
- 43:36Speaker 9: see what happens here.
- 43:38Speaker 3: And as you said, Greg, and we'll go to break.
- 43:40Speaker 5: I think that a lot of these folks on this
- 43:42Speaker 5: list you mentioned to Joey Garcia, I see that. To
- 43:44Speaker 5: Sean flu Hardy, I mean, you wouldn't expect him.
- 43:48Speaker 9: To you know, it only be surprising. It'd only be
- 43:51Speaker 9: surprising if he weren't on them.
- 43:52Speaker 5: And Deli and and another local one here, Deli get
- 43:54Speaker 5: Kaylee Young was another one again.
- 43:57Speaker 3: She is she is who she is, and she's probably
- 43:59Speaker 3: gonna tell you that, you know, I respect for her
- 44:01Speaker 3: for that.
- 44:01Speaker 9: She runs as a liberal Democrat and you know she's
- 44:03Speaker 9: been elected as a little Democrat. Now she's got a
- 44:05Speaker 9: tough race this time. I mean, Andrey Anderson's a good candidate,
- 44:09Speaker 9: So I think that's that's that's one of those handful
- 44:12Speaker 9: of competitive delegate races is going to be that race
- 44:14Speaker 9: with them and they're, you know, both good younger candidates
- 44:17Speaker 9: are working hard, and I think it's going to be
- 44:19Speaker 9: a race to watch. The complete list is available ware

- 47:05Speaker 5: Ask Greg Thomas for the names of all the funders
- 47:07Speaker 5: for West Virginia Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse.
- 47:10Speaker 3: We want to judge whether his filthy money is dirty.
- 47:13Speaker 5: Can't handle the same scrutiny he unscrupulously unscrupulously applies to
- 47:18Speaker 5: everyone else.
- 47:19Speaker 9: And if we had a pack that was active in
- 47:23Speaker 9: you know, political campaigns directly, we would report that information
- 47:26Speaker 9: is required by law. But we're you know, it's a
- 47:29Speaker 9: you know, an issue advocate organization that protects the support
- 47:32Speaker 9: of our I mean, look, you know, our donors are
- 47:34Speaker 9: our donors are job creators and healthcare providers. I mean,
- 47:37Speaker 9: that's who it is.
- 47:38Speaker 3: But you are not required by by law.
- 47:41Speaker 9: You know, we don't have a pack yet. We don't
- 47:42Speaker 9: go we did, we had a pack years ago and
- 47:47Speaker 9: kind of got involved in some races and stuff. But anymore,
- 47:50Speaker 9: I mean, we just sort of highlight things like this
- 47:52Speaker 9: and go out and you know, we you know, we
- 47:54Speaker 9: had we had our you know, local business meeting the
- 47:56Speaker 9: other day here, and we had one in Charleston the
- 47:57Speaker 9: other day. We had one in Barbersville, where you know,
- 48:00Speaker 9: we invite in local job creators, health care providers, local
- 48:03Speaker 9: elected officials, you know, talk about these issues you know. So,
- 48:08Speaker 9: I mean it's a you know, that's what we tend
- 48:11Speaker 9: to focus on, is just highlight the issue Texas.
- 48:14Speaker 3: How about jb Acres?
- 48:15Speaker 5: Why is he immune from the personal injury lawyer attack
- 48:17Speaker 5: when he obviously is one.
- 48:19Speaker 3: Is it because he gives his greedy money to Republicans?
- 48:22Speaker 9: I don't know.
- 48:23Speaker 3: I don't know what the arms that jb Acres has,
- 48:25Speaker 3: whether I want to call it greedy to his face
- 48:27Speaker 3: or not. But go ahead.
- 48:29Speaker 9: Look, you know, Delegate Acres is somebody that we work
- 48:33Speaker 9: with on issues. You know, obviously he is a lawyer.
- 48:37Speaker 9: You know, it's sort of Look, it's it's like we
- 48:39Speaker 9: say that we're not against every single lawyer. I mean,
- 48:42Speaker 9: it's you know, uh, you know, we joke all you know. Look,
- 48:45Speaker 9: sometimes people are injured through no fault of their own
- 48:47Speaker 9: and they need representation. I mean, nobody's going to come
- 48:49Speaker 9: in and say, hey, we shouldn't. You know, we're against
- 48:51Speaker 9: lawsuits entirely. And this is one of the things that
- 48:54Speaker 9: we highlight all the time. Right when we started really
- 48:56Speaker 9: passing tort re form ten years ago, the other side
- 48:59Speaker 9: came in and we're like, oh my godsh if we
- 49:00Speaker 9: pass this stuff, there'll be no lawsuits. There's plenty of lawsuits,
- 49:03Speaker 9: right like, you know, there may not be the big
- 49:06Speaker 9: two hundred and fift you know, the big nuclear verdicts
- 49:09Speaker 9: that we used to have in West Virginia. We don't
- 49:10Speaker 9: have very many of anymore. And you know, so that's
- 49:14Speaker 9: really the you know, we don't want to act like
- 49:17Speaker 9: we're just against all lawyers. There's just some people that
- 49:20Speaker 9: are worse offenders than others.
- 49:21Speaker 5: Texas Republicans are excellent at marketing. How else do you
- 49:24Speaker 5: get rural folks to believe wealthy urbanites and suburbanites had
- 49:27Speaker 5: their best interest in mind. Rural folks are ignorant if
- 49:30Speaker 5: they think the corporate Republican Party cares for them any
- 49:33Speaker 5: more than Democrats do.
- 49:35Speaker 9: You know, Look, I don't think that the Republican Party
- 49:38Speaker 9: is just a big corporate party. And obviously there's social
- 49:41Speaker 9: conservative issues and other things, but and not that Citizens
- 49:45Speaker 9: against Lawsuit Use is a political is aligned with any
- 49:48Speaker 9: political party, of course, because it isn't. But look, I
- 49:52Speaker 9: think this is you know, we know that they run
- 49:56Speaker 9: away verdicts and all of these things hurt in you know,
- 50:00Speaker 9: job creators, they hurt healthcare, they hurt access to affordable
- 50:03Speaker 9: health care. Uh, you know, they cause higher prices for
- 50:06Speaker 9: goods and services and insurance and all that stuff, and
- 50:09Speaker 9: that that's the stuff that we.
- 50:10Speaker 5: High like tex says Republicans putting federal Republicans on a
- 50:13Speaker 5: bad list. Admit it that it's something that Democrats would
- 50:16Speaker 5: never do. They circle the wagons around each other.
- 50:19Speaker 9: There's there's a lot of truth in that, that's for sure.
- 50:21Speaker 5: Dex says, what about Patrick Morrissey, Sue's businesses causes people
- 50:25Speaker 5: to lose jobs, increases pharmacy prices on law abiding citizens
- 50:29Speaker 5: to support addicts.
- 50:30Speaker 9: Well, our list, you know, it's hard for us to
- 50:32Speaker 9: be able to get through that at Morse he he
- 50:36Speaker 9: he doesn't take a lot of money from personal injury lawyers.
- 50:38Speaker 9: I mean, we've kind of looked at it before.
- 50:39Speaker 3: And you're not the biggest Patrick Morrissey fan in the world.
- 50:42Speaker 9: I know, you know, I haven't been in the past.
- 50:44Speaker 9: I mean, I look, I am giving you know, I'm
- 50:48Speaker 9: supporting them for governor. I think that they're I think
- 50:51Speaker 9: that there are I think that there are a lot
- 50:53Speaker 9: of opportunities for him to do positive things as governor
- 50:58Speaker 9: and I and I'm really hopeful that he will do
- 50:59Speaker 9: those things, and so we'll see. But look, I'm supporting
- 51:03Speaker 9: for governor and I think, you know, I'm excited about
- 51:06Speaker 9: some of the things that he's talking about doing as governor.
- 51:08Speaker 5: All Right, I mean you've closed with this speaking of governor,
- 51:11Speaker 5: that office that the governor. Governor Justice has another media
- 51:14Speaker 5: briefing today for those that.
- 51:15Speaker 3: Are allowed to participate at some point, and Brad mclhaney
- 51:18Speaker 3: cannot participate in some of those more legal issues.
- 51:21Speaker 5: Brad's got more stuff to talk about on Hoppy next hour.
- 51:24Speaker 5: Does it make any bit of difference.
- 51:26Speaker 9: No, he's still going to win. Yeah, I mean it's
- 51:28Speaker 9: not it's not an ideal situation he's in obviously, and
- 51:32Speaker 9: you know, and I hope he's able to you know,
- 51:33Speaker 9: just kind of personally. I hope he's able to figure
- 51:35Speaker 9: that out. And for the people that work at the
- 51:37Speaker 9: Greenberg or ipe, they're able to figure all that stuff
- 51:38Speaker 9: out in his other businesses. But no, it's politically, I
- 51:42Speaker 9: mean it'll take I'm sure it'll take a shave a
- 51:44Speaker 9: few points off here and there, but you know he's
- 51:47Speaker 9: going to be a US editor.
- 51:48Speaker 3: I mean Westfridgia.
- 51:48Speaker 5: As I've said over and over again, this week and
- 51:50Speaker 5: others have pointed this out to the Democratic Party. Knew
- 51:53Speaker 5: this and when he was a Democrat in twenty sixteen.
- 51:55Speaker 5: I mean, this is not anything new, it's just now
- 51:57Speaker 5: come there. There's more reporting on it now. Yesterday some
- 52:01Speaker 5: employees of the Green Brier says that there was a
- 52:02Speaker 5: delay in their direct deposit paychecks yesterday. Brad's gonna have
- 52:05Speaker 5: more in that coming up next hour. Greg, I appreciate
- 52:07Speaker 5: you being here man as always, Thanks a lot.
