- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Genesis 48.
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Blessings for Manasseh and Ephraim.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: Some time later Joseph learned that his father was very sick.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: So he took his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim and went to his father.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: When Joseph arrived, someone told Israel, Your son Joseph has come to see you.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: Israel was very weak.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: He tried hard and sat up in his bed.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: Then Israel said to Joseph, God all powerful appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: God blessed me there.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: He said to me, I will make you a great family and I will give you many children, and you will be great people.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: Your family will own this land forever.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Now you will have two sons.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: These two sons were born here in the country of Egypt before I came.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: Your two sons Ephraim and Manasseh will be like my own sons.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: They will be like Reuben and Simeon to me.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: So these two boys will be my sons.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: They will share in everything I own, but if you have other sons, they will be your sons.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: They will also be like sons to Ephraim and Manasseh.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: That is in the future they will share in everything that Ephraim and Manasseh own.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: On the trip from Padon Aram, Rachel died in the land of Canaan.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: This made me very sad.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: We were still travelling toward Ephraim.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: I buried her there on the road to Ephraith.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: Ephraith is Bethlehem.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Then Israel saw Joseph's sons.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: Israel said, Who are these boys?
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: Joseph said to his father, these are my sons, these are the boys God gave me.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: Israel said, Bring your sons to me, I will bless them.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: Israel was old and his eyes were not good.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: So Joseph brought the boys close to his father.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: Israel kissed and hugged the boys.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: Then Israel said to Joseph, I thought I would see your face again, but look, God has let me see you and your children.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: Then Joseph took the boys off Israel's lap and they bowed down in front of his father.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: Joseph put Ephraim on the right side and Manasseh on his left side.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: So Ephraim was on Israel's left side and Manasseh was on Israel's right side.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: But Israel crossed his hands and put his right hand on the head of the younger boy, Ephraim.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: Then he put his left hand on Manasseh, even though Manasseh was the firstborn.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: And Israel blessed Joseph and said, My ancestors Abraham and Isaac worshiped our God, and that God has led me all my life.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: He was the angel who saved me from all of my troubles, and I pray that he will bless these boys.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: Now they will have my name and the name of our ancestors Abraham and Isaac.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: I pray that they will grow to become great families and nations on earth.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: Joseph saw that his father put his right hand on Ephraim's head.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: This didn't make Joseph happy.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: Joseph took his father's hand because he wanted to move it from Ephraim's head and put it on Manasseh's head.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: Joseph said to his father, You have your right hand on the wrong boy.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: Manasseh is your firstborn.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: Put your right hand on him.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: But his father refused and said, I know, son, I know, Manasseh is the firstborn.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: He will be great and he will be the father of many people.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: But his younger brother will be greater than he is, and the younger brother's family will be much larger.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: So Israel blessed them that day.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: He said the Israelites will use your names whenever they bless someone.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: They will say May God make you like Ephraim and Manasseh.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: In this way Israel made Ephraim greater than Manasseh.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: Then Israel said to Joseph Look, my time to die is almost here, but God will still be with you.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: He will lead you back to the land of your ancestors.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: I have given you one portion more than I gave to your brothers.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: I gave you the land that I won from the Amorites.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: I used my sword and my bow to take that land.
