Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: It's media podcast.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome to Meet Eater Trivia, the only game show where
- 0:13Speaker 2: conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer new Arthan. Today
- 0:17Speaker 2: we're joined by Giannis Putellis, Brody Henderson, Randall Williams, Christine
- 0:21Speaker 2: Siwiki Chester, Floyd Logan, Dove, Tresa Croker, and Seth Morris.
- 0:26Speaker 2: This is a ten round quiz show with questions from
- 0:29Speaker 2: Meat Eater's four verticals which are hunting, fishing, conservation and cooking,
- 0:33Speaker 2: and there is a prize. Meat Eater will donate five
- 0:36Speaker 2: hundred dollars to the conservation organization of the winners choosing
- 0:41Speaker 2: in each week he're on Trivia, we reveal a new
- 0:43Speaker 2: stat for the Stat of the Week This week, we're
- 0:45Speaker 2: looking at the average winning scores after sixty games of
- 0:49Speaker 2: Trivia now. On last week's show, we learned that the
- 0:52Speaker 2: average player score has risen by fourteen percent throughout the
- 0:57Speaker 2: history of the show, But will the winning scores have
- 1:00Speaker 2: the same trend Well. Over the first twenty games, the
- 1:03Speaker 2: average winning score was seven point one. Over the next
- 1:07Speaker 2: twenty games, the average score was seven point three to three,
- 1:10Speaker 2: and over the last twenty games, the average winning score
- 1:13Speaker 2: was seven point five to five. So that's a six
- 1:16Speaker 2: percent increase for the average winning scores compared to a
- 1:20Speaker 2: fourteen percent increase for all player scores. That means our
- 1:24Speaker 2: trivia winners are improving, but their competition is improving even more.
- 1:30Speaker 2: How do you feel about that, Brody, as the winningest
- 1:32Speaker 2: player in the.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Room, makes sense?
- 1:34Speaker 2: I guess you're getting a little better, but the other
- 1:36Speaker 2: seven folks in the room are doing even better than that.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Yeah, we just had a three way tiebreaker.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Free way tiebreaker, Johanni, you feel like the questions have
- 1:48Speaker 2: gotten easier in trivia? Has it been easier to win
- 1:51Speaker 2: a game? What do you think?
- 1:53Speaker 4: No, I've been stuck at eight wins for that seems
- 1:56Speaker 4: like a year.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Now, you think so? Mm hmm, okay, if you break
- 2:00Speaker 2: it six months now. Here's our zero percenter question of
- 2:03Speaker 2: the Week, which tests how much knowledge players have retained
- 2:06Speaker 2: from previous games. This question was from episode three point
- 2:08Speaker 2: fifty three. The topic was hunting, and nobody got it right.
- 2:13Speaker 2: What country was given its first Elk and moose by
- 2:16Speaker 2: Teddy Roosevelt.
- 2:18Speaker 4: Oh, I was not there, but I bet you I
- 2:20Speaker 4: can answer it.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Go ahead, yealand that's right. Nobody in the room that
- 2:24Speaker 2: day got it right, though. The incorrect answers given were
- 2:27Speaker 2: the United Kingdom and Japan, but the correct answer was
- 2:31Speaker 2: New Zealand. We have some housekeeping to get to. In
- 2:34Speaker 2: a previous game of trivia, way back in episode four
- 2:37Speaker 2: oh two, we had a tie breaking question about the
- 2:40Speaker 2: average cost of a white tailed deer shoulder mount. I
- 2:44Speaker 2: got that number by looking at the prices for over
- 2:46Speaker 2: thirty taxidermists across the country, which was six hundred and
- 2:50Speaker 2: ninety five dollars and thirty one cents.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Wow.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Well, Taxidermist Ashley Eve, who is part of the Deer
- 2:57Speaker 2: Mounts of America facebook page, recently gave gathered her own
- 3:00Speaker 2: data on this. She surveyed six hundred and sixty one
- 3:04Speaker 2: taxidermists in America and asked them what they charge for
- 3:08Speaker 2: a shoulder mounted deer. Her polling showed that the average
- 3:12Speaker 2: price was seven hundred twenty one dollars and thirty five cents,
- 3:16Speaker 2: which is a twenty six dollars difference from what I
- 3:18Speaker 2: came up with six months ago. Ashley's data had more
- 3:22Speaker 2: interesting tidbits, like that Alaska is the most expensive place
- 3:25Speaker 2: to get a deer mounted, followed by Washington, Nebraska, California
- 3:30Speaker 2: and Hawaii. Those were the only five states with an
- 3:34Speaker 2: average shoulder mount costing more than nine hundred dollars. The
- 3:38Speaker 2: cheapest states to get a mount were Delaware, Alabama, Kentucky,
- 3:41Speaker 2: and North Carolina. They were the only four states with
- 3:45Speaker 2: an average price under six hundred dollars. Ashley also found
- 3:49Speaker 2: that five point five to four percent of taxidermists charged
- 3:52Speaker 2: more than one thousand dollars for a shoulder mounted deer,
- 3:55Speaker 2: and that Canada's average price is about fifty dollars more
- 4:00Speaker 2: than America's. Does that check out for what you think
- 4:03Speaker 2: you know about deer mounts? Yeah, the Southeast. Her whole
- 4:08Speaker 2: map was color coordinated. If you live in the Southeast,
- 4:11Speaker 2: you live in the cheapest area to get a deer mounted.
- 4:13Speaker 2: If you live in the Northwest, you live in the
- 4:16Speaker 2: most expensive area.
- 4:17Speaker 5: Would that have changed the results of that driven.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Back to the tiebreaker itself, Saith, Even if we use
- 4:23Speaker 2: Ashley's new data, that would not change the outcome of
- 4:26Speaker 2: the game. In that episode, Yannas said seven hundred dollars
- 4:29Speaker 2: and Brody said eight hundred and ninety nine dollars, meaning
- 4:32Speaker 2: Yannis was still closer. Well, there we go, Brody you.
- 4:38Speaker 2: You even argued that day you said, I don't think
- 4:40Speaker 2: that number can be right. Well, now our data pool
- 4:43Speaker 2: is six hundred and sixty one strong. Do you still
- 4:46Speaker 2: feel like it's higher than the seven hundred idea?
- 4:51Speaker 6: It's trending towards Brodie's Yeah.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Okay, sure, maybe if we revisit in a decade, come
- 4:57Speaker 2: back in a decade and Brody wins. Now the Shelby Inexpert.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Today's round is a four, so our winner should get
- 5:04Speaker 2: eight correct answers, and with that we're onto the game
- 5:07Speaker 2: of trivia. Play the drop, Phil, Look, I need to
- 5:12Speaker 2: know what I stand and win everything.
- 5:16Speaker 1: How's that? Just tend to win everything?
- 5:25Speaker 2: Gamon Suckers Question one. The topic is cooking. This is
- 5:31Speaker 2: our listener question of the week, which was won by
- 5:34Speaker 2: Tate Romnis for sending this great question. Tate is going
- 5:37Speaker 2: to get a book signed by Steve. What is the
- 5:41Speaker 2: second best grade that a steak can receive from the USDA?
- 5:46Speaker 2: Is it Select, Prime, Superior or Choice? Again, the topic
- 5:54Speaker 2: is cooking. What is the second best grade that a
- 5:57Speaker 2: steak can receive from the UA SDA? Your four choices
- 6:02Speaker 2: are Select, Prime, Superior or Choice. You need to tell
- 6:07Speaker 2: me which one of those is the second best grade?
- 6:12Speaker 4: You know what, Brody?
- 6:14Speaker 3: No, I mean when you eat your milk all the time,
- 6:16Speaker 3: What are you gonna know about like cattle cuts?
- 6:19Speaker 2: Good? Randall with a quick answer, Randall, would have you
- 6:22Speaker 2: gotten this one without the choices? You think no?
- 6:26Speaker 6: And I don't even know that I'll get it with
- 6:27Speaker 6: the choice.
- 6:28Speaker 2: So how about Chester, Seth, You're boys gonna get this
- 6:31Speaker 2: one right?
- 6:32Speaker 1: Same as Randall r.
- 6:34Speaker 4: Brody.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Second best grade that a state can receive from the USDA, Select, Prime, Superior, Choice.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Does everybody have an answer?
- 6:46Speaker 3: Prime, Superior, and Choice.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Brody saying choice,
- 6:55Speaker 2: Tresa saying select, Seth saying select, Check saying prime, Christine
- 7:01Speaker 2: saying choice, Giannis saying choice, Randall saying choice, Logan saying Prime.
- 7:09Speaker 2: The correct answer is choice. The room did pretty well
- 7:14Speaker 2: for beef. The grading scale goes prime, Choice, Select, Standard, Commercial,
- 7:20Speaker 2: utility cutter, and canner. According to the A choice steak
- 7:26Speaker 2: be very tender, juicy, and flavorful, making it suitable for
- 7:31Speaker 2: dry heat cooking. The bottom three grades, which are utility,
- 7:34Speaker 2: cutter and canner, rarely make it to retail, and if
- 7:38Speaker 2: they do, they're turned into ground beef, processed products, and
- 7:42Speaker 2: pet food.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Gotta say that one wandered a little outside the wild
- 7:45Speaker 3: game category.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Question two topic is conservation. What does the acronym l
- 7:53Speaker 2: C stand for when labeling an animal's risk for extinction?
- 8:00Speaker 2: What does the acronym l C stand for when labeling
- 8:04Speaker 2: and animals risk for extinction? Brody and randall with quick answers, Seth,
- 8:11Speaker 2: you got this one right?
- 8:12Speaker 7: No, come on, Seth, just first thing that came to mind.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Yanni looks like he's going to get it. Chat has
- 8:19Speaker 2: not come up with an answer yet, Christine, how do
- 8:21Speaker 2: you feel about your answer? I don't have a feeling.
- 8:24Speaker 6: I just wrote something.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Does the acronym l C stand for when labeling and
- 8:30Speaker 2: animals risk for extinction?
- 8:32Speaker 4: L does not stand for love?
- 8:35Speaker 2: It's a hint from Yanni. Damn it.
- 8:40Speaker 3: How many other words start with L? You got something
- 8:44Speaker 3: written down over there? Logan Tresta. Do you have an answer, Christine? Good,
- 8:51Speaker 3: go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 8:53Speaker 2: We have Brody saying least concern, Chessa saying lois choice,
- 8:58Speaker 2: set the same, Seth saying last chance. Christine also said
- 9:02Speaker 2: last chance. I love that it's not saying last critter,
- 9:07Speaker 2: which is also very good. Jan is saying least concern,
- 9:11Speaker 2: Randall saying least concerned. Logan also said last chance. I
- 9:15Speaker 2: don't know how you guys did that.
- 9:18Speaker 4: I want to give it.
- 9:19Speaker 1: I want to.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Except for the opposite. The correct answer is least concern.
- 9:30Speaker 2: If we were to redo this scale, though, I think
- 9:32Speaker 2: that would be at the bottom, would be elchie else
- 9:36Speaker 2: last chance. If an animal is listed as least concerned,
- 9:40Speaker 2: then biologists have determined that it's at no risk for
- 9:44Speaker 2: ending up on the endangered species list. Other labels used
- 9:47Speaker 2: are near threatened, vulnerable, endangered, critically endangered, and extinct. Some
- 9:53Speaker 2: animals with an l S designation include white tails, blue jays,
- 9:58Speaker 2: largemouth bass, and painted term Question three, The topic is fishing.
- 10:03Speaker 2: This next great question comes to us via calab O'Connell.
- 10:06Speaker 2: If you have a question you think is right for
- 10:07Speaker 2: media to trivia, you can send it to Trivia at
- 10:09Speaker 2: the meadeater dot com. According to a twenty twenty survey,
- 10:14Speaker 2: anglers in this state catch the most saltwater fish in America. Again,
- 10:22Speaker 2: the topic is fishing. According to a twenty twenty survey,
- 10:26Speaker 2: anglers in this state catch the most saltwater fish in America.
- 10:31Speaker 4: Like number of number, number of.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Total number, the total number if they catch the same
- 10:39Speaker 2: exact fish a billion times.
- 10:41Speaker 6: But it's not per capital.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Is this not per capital?
- 10:44Speaker 4: Recreation? Commercial?
- 10:45Speaker 2: What state? This was a commercial survey?
- 10:49Speaker 1: Excuse me?
- 10:50Speaker 2: Excuse me. Recreational is not commercial. It's not commercial recreational survey.
- 10:54Speaker 2: According to a twenty twenty survey, anglers in this state
- 10:59Speaker 2: catch the most saltwater fish in America strictly recreational.
- 11:04Speaker 1: How are you feeling about this one, Seth?
- 11:08Speaker 7: You know, I feel like the state I pick.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Kansas.
- 11:13Speaker 6: Is it on the ocean?
- 11:15Speaker 2: Yeah, you know it is.
- 11:18Speaker 7: It is on the ocean.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Brody, I think we're waiting on you.
- 11:24Speaker 4: Is it residents of the state? No, No, just anglers
- 11:28Speaker 4: show up there.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Brody, how are we doing? I don't know where to
- 11:32Speaker 2: find out. Is everybody ready? Let's go go ahead and
- 11:36Speaker 2: reveal your answers. We have Brody saying Florida. Tressa saying Florida,
- 11:40Speaker 2: Seth saying Florida.
- 11:43Speaker 8: Uh.
- 11:43Speaker 2: The entire room said Florida. They got it. The correct
- 11:47Speaker 2: answer is Florida. About half of the country's one billion
- 11:52Speaker 2: saltwater fish that were caught in twenty twenty came from Florida.
- 11:57Speaker 2: That's followed by North Carolina at seventy two million, in
- 12:00Speaker 2: New York at seventy million, Virginia at fifty eight million,
- 12:04Speaker 2: New Jersey at fifty five million, in South Carolina at
- 12:08Speaker 2: fifty million.
- 12:09Speaker 4: In California was in that list, is not in the top.
- 12:12Speaker 2: They weren't even in like the top six or seven.
- 12:14Speaker 2: But you'd think, like California. I thought Hawaii might trip
- 12:17Speaker 2: people up, but they're not at the top of the list.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Question four, The topic is hunting what nonprofit publishes the
- 12:27Speaker 2: magazine fair Chase. Again, the topic is hunting what nonprofit
- 12:34Speaker 2: publishes the magazine fair Chase? Quick answer from Randall and
- 12:40Speaker 2: Brody and Jannis Brody? Are you going to get this
- 12:43Speaker 2: one right? I'll be mad if I don't? Randall, do
- 12:46Speaker 2: you have this one right?
- 12:48Speaker 6: I think so?
- 12:49Speaker 2: Okay. Rest of the room is filing in with some answers.
- 12:54Speaker 1: How about you, Chester, No, I don't have an answer,
- 13:00Speaker 1: Feel good about.
- 13:00Speaker 2: It, Seth. While Chester comes up with an answer. Tell
- 13:03Speaker 2: us about the walleye tournament you got coming up?
- 13:05Speaker 4: Oh I'm not fishing it.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Oh you're not. Oh that's right. Tell us why you're
- 13:08Speaker 2: not fishing.
- 13:09Speaker 7: I'm not fishing it because it's my first wedding anniversary.
- 13:13Speaker 7: I promised my wife we do something walleye fishing, and
- 13:16Speaker 7: in return, she promised that she would never, you know,
- 13:23Speaker 7: never impede my ability to fish that tournament again.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Okay, so if this tournament happens the exact same time
- 13:31Speaker 2: again next year, you'll be there.
- 13:32Speaker 4: I'll be there.
- 13:33Speaker 2: You and Kelsey hadnt agree.
- 13:34Speaker 6: So she's trading the first anniversary for the rest of them.
- 13:37Speaker 4: Yes, Chester's planning on winning.
- 13:39Speaker 1: That Uh huh, I'm fishing it and uh yeah, I'm
- 13:42Speaker 1: going to go in there, partner. I feel good about it.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Our buddy Casey Underwood, he makes these mugs and stuff.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Such a good artist.
- 13:51Speaker 5: He also has some of his artwork on our mediator
- 13:53Speaker 5: merch and First Light.
- 13:54Speaker 4: Go check it out.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Chester. How is pre fishing gone so far? This episode
- 13:57Speaker 2: is coming out way in the future. You don't have
- 14:00Speaker 2: to worry about giving any sure tips.
- 14:02Speaker 1: It's going really well. Well, It's going really well. The
- 14:09Speaker 1: lake that we're fishing is historically challenging to catch one
- 14:13Speaker 1: fish like over twenty inches, and we are going in
- 14:17Speaker 1: there every single time and finding fish over twenty inches,
- 14:23Speaker 1: so if we get five bites, they're probably going to
- 14:26Speaker 1: be the right ones, and over the two days we
- 14:30Speaker 1: can get ten fish in the boat. I think there's
- 14:33Speaker 1: a high likelihood that we could win it.
- 14:35Speaker 4: Pulling for you, Chester, hearing that does that make you
- 14:39Speaker 4: a little sad? It does.
- 14:42Speaker 1: However, he helped us time.
- 14:44Speaker 7: Heavily involved with finding this the specific pattern that they're
- 14:49Speaker 7: going to be fishing this weekend.
- 14:50Speaker 6: I'm just struck by what a great interview response that was.
- 14:53Speaker 6: It was like a pregame football coach, just like.
- 14:57Speaker 4: Can we go the day after the tournament and then
- 15:02Speaker 4: just go keep all those fish?
- 15:04Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 15:05Speaker 1: Well not all of them because there's a slot limit,
- 15:08Speaker 1: but we can go catch some meters of course.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Is that is this a release tournament? Snap a photo
- 15:14Speaker 2: and release it or what's the deal?
- 15:15Speaker 1: There's two options, this is kind of a rare one.
- 15:18Speaker 1: You have an option to keep them in your live
- 15:21Speaker 1: well and like bring in five fish, or you can
- 15:24Speaker 1: do the catch capture release camera thing where you take
- 15:27Speaker 1: a picture of it on the bump board and turn
- 15:30Speaker 1: in only five photos at the end of the day.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Good luck Chester. Again, we are in question for what
- 15:35Speaker 2: nonprofit publishes the magazine Fair Chase. Does everybody have an answer?
- 15:41Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Brody saying
- 15:44Speaker 2: boone and Crockett, Tresta saying BLM, Seth saying boone and
- 15:48Speaker 2: Crockett check saying QDM, Christine saying and Da Jannis saying
- 15:54Speaker 2: boone and Crockett Randall saying boone and Crockett Logan saying BHA.
- 16:00Speaker 2: The correct answer is the Booning Crocket Club. The magazine
- 16:05Speaker 2: is named after the phrase that the conservation organization created.
- 16:10Speaker 2: The earliest recorded usage of the term fair Chase is
- 16:14Speaker 2: in the fifth article of the Booning Crocket Club's Constitution,
- 16:18Speaker 2: which was adopted in February of eighteen eighty eight. The
- 16:22Speaker 2: magazine is published quarterly, with a bonus issue at the
- 16:25Speaker 2: end of the year that's called the fair Chase Yearbook.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Question five. We will get a scoreboard update from Phil
- 16:33Speaker 2: after this. The topic is foraging. This next great question
- 16:36Speaker 2: comes to us via Wes Gall. If you have a
- 16:39Speaker 2: question you think is right for media to trivia, you
- 16:41Speaker 2: can send it to Trivia at the medeater dot com.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Merriam Webster defines this five letter word as a spout
- 16:49Speaker 2: inserted in a tree to draw off sep. Merriam Webster
- 16:56Speaker 2: defines this five letter word as a spout inserted in
- 17:01Speaker 2: a tree to draw off set logan with a quick answer, logan,
- 17:08Speaker 2: are you going to get this one right?
- 17:09Speaker 7: There was six letters in it, so no?
- 17:11Speaker 2: Okay, alright, say that again. Merriam Webster defines this five
- 17:16Speaker 2: letter word as a spout inserted in a tree to
- 17:21Speaker 2: draw off set.
- 17:24Speaker 7: Not an't even what we called it?
- 17:28Speaker 1: Right?
- 17:30Speaker 2: What does anybody feel good about their answer they have?
- 17:33Speaker 6: Does anybody have an answer?
- 17:35Speaker 1: I'm probably gonna be kicking myself. I bet. I mean
- 17:40Speaker 1: we tapped a ton of sugar maples in Wisconsin.
- 17:43Speaker 2: You probably use this tool that. Merriam Webster defines this
- 17:47Speaker 2: five letter word as a spout inserted in a tree
- 17:51Speaker 2: to draw off set.
- 17:53Speaker 1: What letter does it start with?
- 17:55Speaker 2: I'm not going to give you any hints, Yanni, you
- 18:04Speaker 2: think you'll ever come up with it?
- 18:06Speaker 4: No? Really, I don't think so.
- 18:08Speaker 2: We have a lot of folks from the north Woods
- 18:10Speaker 2: here where this activity takes place. Not many people that
- 18:14Speaker 2: are confident.
- 18:17Speaker 4: I buy and eat a lot of sererus from us
- 18:21Speaker 4: made by Chester's family over there, and was scanny really
- 18:27Speaker 4: enjoy it.
- 18:28Speaker 2: Randall, do you have a five letter word?
- 18:32Speaker 6: I started with a six letter word, back to square one.
- 18:36Speaker 4: I feel better if I could just think of that one.
- 18:39Speaker 6: Oh that's not the right answer, though, No I.
- 18:41Speaker 4: Know, but at least I have something.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Brody, are you going to come up with an answer?
- 18:46Speaker 2: The room may be stumped? Man, Is everybody ready?
- 18:52Speaker 4: No?
- 18:55Speaker 2: Are you writing something now? Yanni?
- 18:58Speaker 4: Yes?
- 18:59Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Brody saying stipe,
- 19:04Speaker 2: Tressa saying spout, Seth without an answer, Chester without an answer,
- 19:08Speaker 2: Christine without an answer, Yannis saying crank, Randall saying spike,
- 19:13Speaker 2: Logan saying spout. Nobody got it, but people flirted with
- 19:18Speaker 2: the right answer, which was spile something spile. Other names
- 19:23Speaker 2: for a spile include a tap, tamper, and spout. The
- 19:27Speaker 2: practice of tapping trees dates back to before European contact.
- 19:32Speaker 2: One Native American legend speaks of a time when pure
- 19:35Speaker 2: maple syrup flowed right from the trees, but a powerful
- 19:39Speaker 2: prince learned that this made his tribe lazy, so he
- 19:42Speaker 2: covered the trees with bark, diluted the syrup with water,
- 19:45Speaker 2: and only made it available in spring. Now that you've
- 19:49Speaker 2: heard spile. Does that sound right to you, Chester, Yanni,
- 19:53Speaker 2: that that sound like a word that was in your
- 19:54Speaker 2: brain somewhere.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Man ever really be a good.
- 19:59Speaker 6: One for wordle though.
- 20:00Speaker 4: Just called a tap. I was gonna say this comes
- 20:02Speaker 4: up in a word here in the next couple of years.
- 20:04Speaker 4: That'll be one of those days where I'm like s
- 20:07Speaker 4: P I T s P I V S TV and
- 20:12Speaker 4: just keep guessing because I won't really run out.
- 20:14Speaker 1: I believe we sell the the Family's maple syrup on
- 20:19Speaker 1: the website in those bloody or those old fashioned kits.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Uh huh. They probably came out of a spile that
- 20:26Speaker 2: Chester's family tapped into a tree. Phil, we are halfway
- 20:30Speaker 2: through the game of trivia. Give us a scoreboard update.
- 20:34Speaker 5: Logan, Treessa and Chester. I'll have one point apiece, Seth
- 20:37Speaker 5: and Christine have two points and tied up in first
- 20:41Speaker 5: place at Randall Brody and Giannis with four points.
- 20:45Speaker 4: Phil, you know it's not too excited.
- 20:48Speaker 5: I have a great time.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Jannest ask if you make the request for him to
- 20:52Speaker 2: bring more energy, he will, so that that was officially
- 20:55Speaker 2: Yanni's request. Sump it up, Phil, Okay, when we get
- 20:58Speaker 2: to the question when we turned the corner ate. We
- 21:01Speaker 2: need a little more energy.
- 21:02Speaker 4: Got it?
- 21:14Speaker 2: Question six, The topic is fishing. The bones of an
- 21:19Speaker 2: angler who drowned in nineteen ninety eight was among the
- 21:23Speaker 2: four human bodies discovered in this receding lake in twenty
- 21:27Speaker 2: twenty two. The bones of an angler who drowned in
- 21:33Speaker 2: nineteen ninety eight was among the four human bodies discovered
- 21:38Speaker 2: in this receding lake in twenty twenty two. A lot
- 21:46Speaker 2: of the room needed to hear that a second time
- 21:48Speaker 2: to come up with an answer. Yanni, do you think
- 21:50Speaker 2: you have this one right?
- 21:51Speaker 4: I do, as long.
- 21:53Speaker 2: As okay he thinks he does the seth. Do you
- 21:58Speaker 2: have this one right?
- 21:59Speaker 4: I think I do.
- 22:01Speaker 2: Chester do you have this one right?
- 22:04Speaker 1: I don't have an answer yet.
- 22:09Speaker 2: The bones of an angler who drowned in nineteen ninety
- 22:12Speaker 2: eight was among the four human bodies discovered in this
- 22:16Speaker 2: receding lake in twenty twenty two. Quiet room, Randall, do
- 22:24Speaker 2: you think you have this one right?
- 22:26Speaker 9: No? I do not.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Come m brody doing a lot of writing and eracing
- 22:31Speaker 2: over here. No, just trying to decide. Think we're running
- 22:38Speaker 2: out of time. I think we are waiting on you.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Everybody ready, Go ahead? And reveal your answers. We have
- 22:47Speaker 2: Brody saying Powell, Tresa saying Lake Mead, Seth saying Powell,
- 22:52Speaker 2: Chester saying Devil's Lake, Christine saying Lake Saint Clair, Yiannis
- 22:58Speaker 2: saying Mead, Randall's saying Great Salt Lake, Logan saying Lake Powell.
- 23:04Speaker 2: The correct answer is Lake Mead. A few folks got
- 23:08Speaker 2: it right. Lake Mead was at an all time low
- 23:12Speaker 2: last year thanks to a twenty two year drought. The
- 23:15Speaker 2: first body of the year was found in a barrel
- 23:18Speaker 2: that used to be underwater. The man inside had died
- 23:20Speaker 2: from a gunshot wounded the head. As of April twenty
- 23:24Speaker 2: twenty three, the victim still had not been identified. Detectives
- 23:28Speaker 2: believe the man was killed sometime in the late nineteen
- 23:31Speaker 2: seventies or early nineteen eighties because of his clothes. From
- 23:35Speaker 2: KMART question seven, the topic is conservation. This next great
- 23:40Speaker 2: question comes to his via chest Yancey. If you have
- 23:43Speaker 2: a question you think is right for Meat Eater Trivia,
- 23:45Speaker 2: you can send it to Trivia at the medeater dot com.
- 23:48Speaker 2: This is an audio question. Phil is going to play
- 23:51Speaker 2: you one minute of a song from nineteen ninety You
- 23:55Speaker 2: need to tell me who the artist is. Take it away, Phil.
- 24:03Speaker 8: We live in the land of plenty, but many things
- 24:09Speaker 8: aren't plenty anymore.
- 24:12Speaker 2: With water from high sing, you need to tell me
- 24:16Speaker 2: who the artist is.
- 24:18Speaker 4: You gotta go and buy it at the store, getting.
- 24:20Speaker 2: The topics conservations in the old.
- 24:25Speaker 8: Song, look, wat's washing on the beach, and Lord, I
- 24:32Speaker 8: believe from the heavens to the sea to bring in
- 24:36Speaker 8: Mother Nature to her names. Souless, leave somebody up above us.
- 24:45Speaker 4: Let's leave some green on the ground.
- 24:50Speaker 2: So only I follows say.
- 24:52Speaker 5: And I wish you guys can't see the music video
- 24:54Speaker 5: that I'm seeing right now.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Just to feel like you've been set back to nineteen ninety.
- 25:00Speaker 5: I was thinking earlier, but.
- 25:01Speaker 2: It looks like that Chester. It seems like you're the
- 25:04Speaker 2: only one who's come up with an answer. Do you
- 25:06Speaker 2: think you have this one right?
- 25:10Speaker 1: I don't think I have it right, but it's very close.
- 25:15Speaker 1: I know it's just so close. If it's if it's wrong.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Again, the topic is conservation. That song was from nineteen ninety,
- 25:22Speaker 2: and you need to tell me who the artist is.
- 25:27Speaker 4: I think I got it as long as he just
- 25:29Speaker 4: changed his voice a little bit for that song.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Doctor dre is that you put down big Randall? Are
- 25:41Speaker 2: you going to get this one right? I feel like
- 25:43Speaker 2: you are someone who has some knowledge of music trivia.
- 25:47Speaker 6: I'll be honest, I don't think i've ever heard that
- 25:50Speaker 6: song again.
- 25:52Speaker 2: Again. It's from nineteen ninety. The topic was conservation, and
- 25:56Speaker 2: you need to tell me who the artist is Chester.
- 26:01Speaker 2: Maybe the country who gets this one?
- 26:03Speaker 1: That's a real country.
- 26:05Speaker 4: That's real country. Then I should change my answer.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I kind of want to start never.
- 26:10Speaker 2: Mind, what do you want to do? Chester?
- 26:13Speaker 1: Start singing some other songs real quick?
- 26:16Speaker 2: Does everybody have an answer? Who's going to come up
- 26:18Speaker 2: with an answer? Brody?
- 26:22Speaker 1: Sure?
- 26:24Speaker 4: Can I change?
- 26:25Speaker 2: Sure? Go ahead?
- 26:26Speaker 4: Rayel doesn't even have any written.
- 26:28Speaker 2: Can't come up with an artist from nineteen ninety that
- 26:32Speaker 2: may sound like that, it's.
- 26:34Speaker 7: Not Limp Biscuit.
- 26:36Speaker 2: Yeah, Yanni, are you ready? Brody? Are you ready? Go
- 26:41Speaker 2: ahead and reveal your answers? We have, Brody saying, Montgomery
- 26:45Speaker 2: Tresta saying, George gonna go George sang, Hank Junior Chest saying,
- 26:51Speaker 2: Toby Keith, Christine saying Toby Keith, Yanna saying Garth Brooks
- 26:56Speaker 2: Randall without an answer, Logan saying Kenny Chesney. No, nobody
- 27:00Speaker 2: got it right. The correct answer is Alabama.
- 27:04Speaker 1: Oh sounds a lot like Tobey Keith kind of you
- 27:07Speaker 1: know what it does.
- 27:08Speaker 2: Once you said that, it's easy to hear that being
- 27:10Speaker 2: Toby Keith.
- 27:11Speaker 7: Pre Toby Keith early nineties, nineteen ninety.
- 27:16Speaker 1: Toby Keith was singing in the nineties.
- 27:18Speaker 2: I feel like should have been the should have been
- 27:20Speaker 2: a Cowboy was early nineties. I would bet it's close.
- 27:23Speaker 4: I was gonna say Neil Young because he's the one
- 27:25Speaker 4: that would write a song. Yes.
- 27:27Speaker 2: That song is called Pass It On Down, and it
- 27:30Speaker 2: was released on Alabama's nineteen ninety album of the same name.
- 27:34Speaker 2: The song peaked on the American charts at number three
- 27:37Speaker 2: and the Canadian charts at number two. The lyrics were
- 27:40Speaker 2: inspired by Mercury Warnings for Fish in a River that
- 27:44Speaker 2: the band loved. It made them wonder what the river
- 27:46Speaker 2: would look like when their grandkids fished it someday. Question
- 27:51Speaker 2: eight the topic.
- 27:51Speaker 4: Is what's up with the river now?
- 27:55Speaker 2: I don't know what the river was?
- 27:56Speaker 4: All right? Well, next episode, Spender's gonna come back and
- 27:58Speaker 4: tell us.
- 27:59Speaker 2: We'll see where it's at years later. Question eight the
- 28:03Speaker 2: topic is cooking. If you order L pastoor tacos, then
- 28:07Speaker 2: what kind of meat are you getting? If you order
- 28:14Speaker 2: L pastoor tacos, then what kind of meat are you getting?
- 28:19Speaker 2: A pretty confident room coming off of a question that
- 28:23Speaker 2: nobody got right. We've now had two zero percenters in
- 28:26Speaker 2: this episode.
- 28:28Speaker 4: Alabama, Alabama, Alabama. Remember it. He's gonna ask us again
- 28:32Speaker 4: in about.
- 28:32Speaker 2: A month, Johnny, do you have this one right?
- 28:35Speaker 4: I think so.
- 28:36Speaker 6: I'll never forget the answer.
- 28:39Speaker 2: If you order L pastoor tacos, then what kind of meat?
- 28:44Speaker 2: This is kind of a multiple choice question. Really, the
- 28:48Speaker 2: rest of the room doesn't look so confident. Is everybody ready?
- 28:52Speaker 4: I'm not confident?
- 28:56Speaker 2: Chester, there's us.
- 28:58Speaker 4: There's a great article in a recent New Yorker about
- 29:02Speaker 4: how Taco Bell goes about their ideation process and how
- 29:07Speaker 4: they bring things like Crunt Trap Supreme to be I
- 29:10Speaker 4: highly recommend everybody read it.
- 29:12Speaker 2: Very what did you learn? What did the crunch they
- 29:14Speaker 2: like sit in a stoner's kitchen?
- 29:17Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm sure there are some stoners that are part
- 29:20Speaker 4: of the process. But yeah, it goes from like ten
- 29:23Speaker 4: thousand ideas down to seventy that are put forth and
- 29:28Speaker 4: actually messed with. In this lab and then it comes
- 29:31Speaker 4: down to ten annually and uh yeah, and it's not
- 29:36Speaker 4: just the making of the food but the marketing. It's
- 29:39Speaker 4: very very interesting.
- 29:40Speaker 2: How many bathrooms do you think are on that laboratory?
- 29:43Speaker 4: That was the interesting part. Nobody although no one, lady
- 29:46Speaker 4: that did. I think it was late that it made
- 29:48Speaker 4: the crunch Trap supreme. At the end, she was like,
- 29:50Speaker 4: I'm good she passed when the dude brought her one.
- 29:53Speaker 2: What would it take you to get taco bell? When's
- 29:56Speaker 2: the last time you?
- 29:57Speaker 4: Reading that article kind of made me like want to
- 29:59Speaker 4: go and try things. Some people will drive hundreds of
- 30:03Speaker 4: miles when like the new Dorito's flavored whatever comes out,
- 30:07Speaker 4: you know, and I feel like I'm missing out?
- 30:10Speaker 2: Is everybody have an answer?
- 30:11Speaker 4: The crunch Trap's best thing they've ever made. And you
- 30:14Speaker 4: can make mars omesert, Yeah, I do all the time.
- 30:16Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Brody saying beef,
- 30:21Speaker 2: Tresta saying pork, Set saying beef, Chet saying beef, Christine
- 30:25Speaker 2: saying beef, Yanna sang pork, Randall saying pork, Logan saying beef.
- 30:30Speaker 2: The correct answer is pork. It's about half the room,
- 30:34Speaker 2: got it right. L pastor translates to shepherds style in English.
- 30:40Speaker 2: Pork that's cooked. L pastoor is usually marinated in dried
- 30:44Speaker 2: chili's and pineapple and then roasted on a rotating spit.
- 30:48Speaker 2: The meal was created in Mexico but has Lebanese influence.
- 30:52Speaker 1: I was thinking of tongue, but that's langua right correct.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Be a good trivia question for the future, Phil. We
- 31:01Speaker 2: have two questions left. Where does the scoreboard stand? And
- 31:05Speaker 2: I'm looking forward to being blown away.
- 31:06Speaker 9: Here Logan Chester, Seth, Christine and Tresa. It was your
- 31:11Speaker 9: LC but now you've got xteed yes and in first
- 31:19Speaker 9: place of six points.
- 31:19Speaker 4: It's honest. The eagle poop jello. Wait wait wait, wait wait,
- 31:24Speaker 4: that's what I'm talking about. That made my name Phil.
- 31:27Speaker 2: Last time we made that request, Phil came in with
- 31:30Speaker 2: like one of the best lines ever said on this podcast.
- 31:32Speaker 2: He said, if you can't take the heat, then get
- 31:34Speaker 2: out of the meat eater studio. It was really good, Phil,
- 31:38Speaker 2: Well done. Question nine, the topic is woodsmanship. Name one
- 31:43Speaker 2: of the five best states to live in if you
- 31:46Speaker 2: hate mosquitoes.
- 31:48Speaker 8: Now.
- 31:48Speaker 2: This is according to a twenty twenty three study that
- 31:51Speaker 2: looked at data from every state except why and to
- 31:54Speaker 2: be fair to some of the folks in this room.
- 31:57Speaker 2: Last episode, I asked about the five worst to live
- 32:00Speaker 2: in if you hate mosquitoes. That answer was Louisiana, Florida,
- 32:04Speaker 2: South Dakota, New York, and Texas. So there is five
- 32:08Speaker 2: to take off your list, as well as Hawaii because
- 32:11Speaker 2: they were not in this study. Again, the question is
- 32:14Speaker 2: name one of the five best states to live in
- 32:18Speaker 2: if you hate mosquitoes. Brody, how do you feel about
- 32:25Speaker 2: your answer this time around to this dumb question?
- 32:28Speaker 4: I didn't got a shot.
- 32:30Speaker 2: Okay, I think you have a shot.
- 32:34Speaker 3: I think yes, Like I feel like this is easier
- 32:38Speaker 3: than last week.
- 32:39Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, this one feels easy. But I could have
- 32:42Speaker 1: a round.
- 32:43Speaker 2: The hint here is that the answer for the worst
- 32:47Speaker 2: states to live in if you hate mosquitoes. Those were Louisiana, Florida,
- 32:52Speaker 2: South Dakota, New York, and Texas. And this study did
- 32:56Speaker 2: not include Hawaii.
- 32:58Speaker 4: I'm surprised main it actually make that list from worst
- 33:02Speaker 4: mosquito states too. Yeah, maynards will say that the state
- 33:05Speaker 4: bird is a mosquito.
- 33:06Speaker 2: I think every state says that that.
- 33:08Speaker 4: Uh, that's true.
- 33:09Speaker 2: State bird is the mosquito. Does everybody have an answer?
- 33:14Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Brody saying Arizona,
- 33:18Speaker 2: Tresta saying Arizona saying Arizona, Chester saying Nevada, Christine saying Kansas,
- 33:24Speaker 2: Jannis saying Arizona, Randalls saying Nevada, Logan saying Arizona. The
- 33:30Speaker 2: five states are Michigan, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, and Utah. Arizona
- 33:37Speaker 2: was not in the top five.
- 33:38Speaker 3: What Michigan Yes, as we discussed starting question your sources.
- 33:44Speaker 2: These states were ranked on a one hundred point scale
- 33:47Speaker 2: that looked at things like number of mosquito species and
- 33:50Speaker 2: the number of mosquito transmitted diseases. Michigan was rated as
- 33:55Speaker 2: the best state to live in if you hate mosquitoes,
- 33:57Speaker 2: with a score of twenty. That's follow Mosquito at twenty five,
- 34:03Speaker 2: Washington and Oregon at twenty eight, and Utah.
- 34:06Speaker 6: Lunacy.
- 34:07Speaker 2: Other states in the top ten include Idaho, Alaska, Massachusetts, Tennessee,
- 34:12Speaker 2: and Kansas.
- 34:13Speaker 1: Have you ever heard of pure Michigan like where they
- 34:15Speaker 1: advertise all the lakes and stuff?
- 34:17Speaker 2: You know, I don't disclose your sore spencer. This was
- 34:21Speaker 2: an insurance company had this study done to learn about
- 34:26Speaker 2: states where mosquitoes are the worst.
- 34:29Speaker 4: There's no other smell that brings me back to my
- 34:32Speaker 4: childhood backwoods off exactly.
- 34:35Speaker 2: Or cutter, and that's how good Michigan is. The other
- 34:39Speaker 2: forty nine states are all better, if you, excuse me,
- 34:42Speaker 2: are all worse. If you hate mosquitoes, you were lucky
- 34:44Speaker 2: on it. I guess so, Phil, We have one question left.
- 34:49Speaker 2: What does the leaderboard look like?
- 34:50Speaker 5: The only two players left in the game are Jannison Randall,
- 34:53Speaker 5: who are all tied up with six points.
- 34:55Speaker 4: Oh boy, you're looking a little peaked.
- 34:59Speaker 6: I I feel awful. I feel awful. My heart is
- 35:03Speaker 6: racing out of control. My stomach is just full of
- 35:06Speaker 6: black coffee. I'm just preparing myself for a collapse.
- 35:13Speaker 4: You had a big weekend of wedding festivities. Indeed I did, yeah.
- 35:19Speaker 2: Question the topic is hunting. What animal has a score
- 35:25Speaker 2: minimum of sixty seven in the Pop and Young Record Book?
- 35:31Speaker 2: What animal has a score minimum of sixty seven in
- 35:35Speaker 2: the Popen Young Record Book? Brody with a quick answer,
- 35:42Speaker 2: Tresa seth Chester, you're all with quick answers as well, Treesa,
- 35:46Speaker 2: are you going to get this one right now? Okay, Seth,
- 35:50Speaker 2: changing an answer, just adding to it, adding to it.
- 35:56Speaker 2: Some might take that as a hint. M maybe yeah, Seth, Yanny,
- 36:02Speaker 2: do you have this one right?
- 36:03Speaker 4: I don't know. Okay, I got a good guess.
- 36:07Speaker 2: Christine, we're waiting on you.
- 36:09Speaker 4: What do you think? It's not what I have?
- 36:13Speaker 1: I have?
- 36:15Speaker 2: Christine? Are you ready? I saw?
- 36:17Speaker 1: But now I feel really guilty.
- 36:19Speaker 8: You don't.
- 36:23Speaker 6: Flashing?
- 36:26Speaker 1: Keep that keep that I saw.
- 36:28Speaker 2: You answers last control here? Yeah, ready, go ahead and
- 36:34Speaker 2: reveal your answers. We have Brody saying saying, Seth saying
- 36:40Speaker 2: who's deer? Saying antelope, Christine saying prong horn, Yiannis saying
- 36:46Speaker 2: mountain goat, Randall saying prong horn, Logan saying deer. We
- 36:50Speaker 2: have a correct answer in the room. It's pronghorn, making
- 36:55Speaker 2: Randall our winner. With seven correct answers, it's all done,
- 37:00Speaker 2: Randal Randam, did you know that answer? Was it just
- 37:02Speaker 2: a guess?
- 37:03Speaker 6: It made sense to me?
- 37:05Speaker 2: And Yanni tell me about your answer of mountain goat.
- 37:09Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 37:09Speaker 4: I just thought of an animal that has not You know,
- 37:13Speaker 4: they're probably even less.
- 37:14Speaker 2: Their minimum is forty to get a good bok with
- 37:17Speaker 2: a Mountain goat. Other animals in that ballpark include Cou's
- 37:20Speaker 2: deer at seventy inches, six couple black tails at seventy
- 37:24Speaker 2: five inches, and Anaelope is scored by taking twelve measurements
- 37:27Speaker 2: that include length of horns, circumference of horns, and length
- 37:31Speaker 2: of prongs. The Pope and Young world record, which was
- 37:34Speaker 2: killed in Arizona, taped out at over ninety one inches, Randal,
- 37:39Speaker 2: with our winner getting seven points, no overtime needed. You
- 37:42Speaker 2: get to choose where a five hundred dollars donation for
- 37:45Speaker 2: meat eater goes. So what's it going to be?
- 37:47Speaker 4: Make it fun? Randal?
- 37:49Speaker 2: What would be a not fun answer?
- 37:50Speaker 4: You think, Well, when someone says just the same old
- 37:53Speaker 4: conservationalization that we hear ninety percent of the time.
- 37:57Speaker 2: A lot of pressure. Sounds like he's talking to your employer.
- 38:02Speaker 7: Geez, do you have anything to do with the shirt
- 38:03Speaker 7: you're wearing?
- 38:04Speaker 6: Oh I am I'm wearing a TRCP shirt.
- 38:07Speaker 2: Okay.
- 38:08Speaker 6: I was going to go with the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership.
- 38:12Speaker 6: They were here in our office recently hosting a summit
- 38:15Speaker 6: about chronic wasting disease with a lot of leading scientists
- 38:19Speaker 6: and industry leaders. And nonprofits, and I'm just happy that
- 38:24Speaker 6: I can back in the Winter Circle and able to
- 38:28Speaker 6: support an organization that's dear to my heart.
- 38:30Speaker 2: Were you at that summit, Randall? No, I wasn't.
- 38:33Speaker 6: I was across the hallway, so I heard some of
- 38:36Speaker 6: the louder interjections by members of the Steve was.
- 38:41Speaker 2: That I could hear Steve.
- 38:43Speaker 6: Okay, I think he was just sitting in the right seat.
- 38:45Speaker 6: But yeah, I was across the hall.
- 38:47Speaker 2: He's always sitting in the right seat for interjections.
- 38:50Speaker 6: But no, it was a good event, a lot of
- 38:52Speaker 6: it was an impressive crowd.
- 38:54Speaker 2: Well done, Randall.
- 38:55Speaker 6: Sitting in my office working away decisive victory.
- 38:59Speaker 2: Yanni. Do you think prong Horn would have been an
- 39:01Speaker 2: your second choice?
- 39:02Speaker 4: Maybe I didn't. I didn't have a second choice, Okay,
- 39:07Speaker 4: just chose one.
- 39:09Speaker 2: Not good enough this time. No, Join us next time
- 39:11Speaker 2: for more Meat Eater Trivia, the only game show where
- 39:14Speaker 2: conservation always wins.
- 39:16Speaker 4: Thanks Spencer,
