- 0:34Hello, and welcome to another edition of BrakeFix.
- 0:37I'm your host, Brad.
- 0:38With me, as always, is Eric and Tanya.
- 0:40Heyo!
- 0:41And this is the DriveThru November edition.
- 0:45As you all know, the DriveThru is our monthly recap where we
- 0:47put together a menu of local, racing, and random car jason news.
- 0:52Now, let's pull up to the window number one for some holiday shopping news.
- 0:55That's right.
- 0:56This month we're taking our traditional holiday shopping article and
- 0:59bringing it to you in podcast form.
- 1:02That's right, Brad.
- 1:03It's that time of year again to answer the age old question.
- 1:06What do you want for the holidays?
- 1:09Most of the time we've already bought what we've needed throughout
- 1:12the season, but your loved ones really want to get you something.
- 1:15So what do you get for the enthusiast that already has all their toys?
- 1:19But before we get deep into gifts this time of year, I'm often reminded
- 1:23of those commercials you see on TV with the Lexus in the driveway, a big
- 1:28bow on the roof and an unsuspecting new owner shedding tears of joy.
- 1:32Or that car hauler full of silver Mercedes and that one red one
- 1:37driving alongside that you just have to have for your loved one.
- 1:41I'm pretty sure plenty of people do buy new cars for the holidays.
- 1:46So that got me thinking, let's play a round of what car
- 1:50should I buy holiday edition.
- 1:52What do you say guys?
- 1:53Well, you know, one car I would love to see in my driveway, even
- 1:56though it's probably got too much power is the GT 500 that we talked
- 2:00about on a previous episode.
- 2:02It's got more power than the GT 350 and sometimes more
- 2:06power is too much power, but.
- 2:08Not in this case.
- 2:09Give me a GT500 and I'll be a happy man.
- 2:11Since somebody else is buying it for you, what color should it be?
- 2:15There's no other color in the world but black, my friend.
- 2:18Dark blue?
- 2:18Black with black racing stripes.
- 2:20No, no dark blue with white Shelby stripes?
- 2:22What's wrong with you?
- 2:23The hell's wrong with you?
- 2:24Dark blue?
- 2:24No, no, no.
- 2:25Do you know me?
- 2:26You don't want red stripes on your black?
- 2:29I want black, black on black with black leather, red piping on the leather, and
- 2:34maybe red strips on the racing stripes.
- 2:37Very thin pinstriping on the racing stripes.
- 2:39I will have to see if Hot Wheels makes that for you, but we'll
- 2:41talk about that in a little bit.
- 2:43So I think if we have to go back over previous cars we talked about, I'd love
- 2:47to see a brand new Z400 in my driveway.
- 2:52That'd be a car I'd love to have for Christmas.
- 2:54Can you imagine that?
- 2:56I don't think I would go for yellow or that poo brown, but a nice
- 3:00silver would look pretty cool.
- 3:02With racing stripes or without?
- 3:04Uh, you know, I'm thinking maybe the old school Datsun livery, you
- 3:07know, the blue and the red, but I just, I'm not a big fan of stripes.
- 3:11So for me, I like it just in its natural, natural look.
- 3:14It's like, it's like.
- 3:15Highlighting your hair.
- 3:16You know what I mean?
- 3:17It's just, it doesn't do it for me.
- 3:19You don't want a car with frosted tips?
- 3:21No, no.
- 3:22I think I could do with that only in my five.
- 3:24Oh, so Tanya over to you.
- 3:26What do you think?
- 3:27Uh, alpha anyone, even the four C.
- 3:30Sure.
- 3:31I mean, who wouldn't want a 4C?
- 3:33I mean, if there's some rich European entrepreneur that just wants to give
- 3:36me a car, I'll happily take their custom designed bespoke Ferrari.
- 3:43What, only in red though, right?
- 3:45Of course, why not?
- 3:46Is there any other color a Ferrari comes in, or should come in?
- 3:50Ferraris are like Ducatis.
- 3:51They come in ketchup and mustard.
- 3:52That's it.
- 3:53That's all they should come in.
- 3:55If you were shopping for a car this Christmas, and it had to be a 2021 model,
- 4:00What would you be looking forward to?
- 4:01For me, my answer is going to be the same as for your next question.
- 4:06Uh, so I'm going to reserve that until we answer the next question.
- 4:11Yeah, I, that's really hard.
- 4:13Unfortunately, I like small hatchback vehicles, which are dying.
- 4:19So if, and when I eventually need a brand new car in the future, I'll
- 4:23probably have unlucky one choice.
- 4:25So what you're saying is the Mark 8 GTI really doesn't do it for you right now.
- 4:30I don't even remember what it looks like.
- 4:32It looks like a Corolla Hatchback.
- 4:35No, actually, you know, honestly, the Corolla Hatchback is not
- 4:38that looking terrible looking.
- 4:40I've seen several on the road.
- 4:41Yeah.
- 4:42But I don't think I'd want one.
- 4:44What about the Veloster N, since you like hatchbacks?
- 4:47No?
- 4:48No.
- 4:48If you want me to answer this question, so I am changing my answer a little
- 4:51bit, not that I even gave one, but so if I had to buy a brand new 2021,
- 4:56I'd, I'd be looking for something.
- 4:57And I talked to somebody earlier today about this.
- 4:59I'd get one of those lifted, you know, hatchbacks, maybe like a
- 5:02McCann turbo or something like that.
- 5:05Um, because I would want to lower it and then use it as my track car because those
- 5:08are some of the only things I fit in.
- 5:09Transcribed That is some sound logic right there, but since we're talking about
- 5:15SUV like vehicles, a car I would rather enjoy for 2021 and I was surprised to
- 5:22still see it available for sale today.
- 5:25So if anybody's listening, I wouldn't mind if a Lincoln Continental showed
- 5:29up in my driveway all as well.
- 5:32But in addition to that, if I was an Impala, that's what you in the car.
- 5:37All right, all right, all right, you get Will Willis from Forged in Fire instead.
- 5:43No, no, Matthew McConaughey, but no, I think, uh, in all honesty,
- 5:48though, if I look at the rest of the Lincoln lineup, I've seen the
- 5:51Corsair on the road a few times.
- 5:54I really liked the way it looks.
- 5:55I think it's a nice compromise between the Mark C and the Mark X.
- 5:59It's a really good looking car.
- 6:01And now they just introduced.
- 6:02The Nautilus, which is going to be in between, you know, what used to be, you
- 6:07know, the big old navigator and what was the mark C to kind of replace the mark X.
- 6:12And I like the way it looks and profile really nice seven seater SUV.
- 6:16So again, if I was in that market as a family man, I would kind of
- 6:20steer my eyes towards Lincoln if I had to buy a new car for 21.
- 6:23So good on them.
- 6:25It's making some really cool looking cars these days.
- 6:27If money is no object, and this is all fictitious, I would
- 6:31definitely go look at an Audi RS5.
- 6:34But having driven a previous year S5, or A5, I don't even remember
- 6:39now, it's been a couple years.
- 6:40That was quite an enjoyable car to drive.
- 6:4221 model year RS5, there you go.
- 6:45If you had to buy an EV for Christmas, knowing what we know
- 6:48now, and Tanya, our resident EV specialist here, what would it be?
- 6:53This year?
- 6:54So, for Christmas we're buying one?
- 6:57Let's say you could buy one now.
- 7:00None.
- 7:01There's no choice in America.
- 7:03She would buy a DC Toyota.
- 7:05Tesla, and then like Chevy Bolt or Volt.
- 7:07I don't even know which one.
- 7:09So let's say hypothetically of the ones that we talked about this
- 7:12year, if you could buy them now for Christmas, which one would you pick?
- 7:16Does it exist?
- 7:16It has to exist?
- 7:18Can't be um...
- 7:18You can, you, you, so I, I'm, I'm qualifying this as it doesn't have
- 7:22to be delivered by Christmas, but you can put a deposit by Christmas.
- 7:26I like that.
- 7:27I like that.
- 7:28What if it's just the concept?
- 7:30That's fine too.
- 7:31It exists in some form.
- 7:33I want my Fiat Panda Retro EV.
- 7:37I'm with you there.
- 7:37I'm with you on the Fiat side.
- 7:39I really like that 126 concept that we talked about.
- 7:43We've been interviewing a lot of other people lately and we've gotten
- 7:46some interesting feedback on the EV market and I think Brad was
- 7:49probably going to go there as well.
- 7:51But somebody actually brought up the Lucid Air and I thought
- 7:54that was really interesting.
- 7:55So people are definitely diving into all these different models of the
- 7:58hypercars, I'm not really interested in.
- 8:01I think I would have a tough choice on what I would buy as an EV, but I'm
- 8:05with you on the fiat side of the house.
- 8:07I'm still waiting to see how the Volkswagens turn out.
- 8:10There hasn't been the right car yet for me.
- 8:12What about you, Brad?
- 8:13For me, it would either be the Audi, I guess it's the e tron or
- 8:17whatever, the Q7 looking thing.
- 8:19I've seen a couple of those on the street.
- 8:21I think they're pretty slick.
- 8:22And if I was putting a deposit down on something, it would be a Mach E.
- 8:25Yeah.
- 8:26You know what?
- 8:26I take that back and you're right.
- 8:28I do like the Mach E.
- 8:29I want to drive one.
- 8:30I mentioned the other day to somebody I drove by the dealership yet again,
- 8:33and I haven't seen one outside happens to be a Ford and Lincoln dealership.
- 8:37That's why I've seen the Corsair so many times, you know, it's not out yet.
- 8:40So I'm kind of disappointed in that, at least in our area, it's not available
- 8:43yet to test drive, but I agree with that.
- 8:45The Mach E is a good choice.
- 8:46And I think in addition to that, since I'm still kind of on
- 8:50this weird Ford kick right now.
- 8:52I'm kind of holding out for that E 150 pickup truck that we talked about.
- 8:55I really want to know what that's all about.
- 8:58I want to know some more specs.
- 8:59I mean, that's definitely on maybe my Christmas list a year or two from now,
- 9:03but I'm still very excited to see where that goes here in the near future.
- 9:07Good on Ford.
- 9:08Some interesting stuff for a change.
- 9:09I got, I'm usually pitching the Chrysler flag all over the place, but
- 9:13yeah, I know your, your Mopar gods are very angry with you right now.
- 9:17You're going to go outside and your jeep's not going to start.
- 9:19I'm going to be smoted momentarily.
- 9:23Fossil fuel drum too.
- 9:25Pun intended.
- 9:27New year, new you.
- 9:29Okay.
- 9:29That's what it's all about.
- 9:30You got to embrace the change, I suppose.
- 9:32New year, new fuel.
- 9:33What kind of skidder car would you buy?
- 9:37All right, moving on.
- 9:38So we've got next, we've got Tanya apparently wants to talk
- 9:41about an electric Bugatti.
- 9:43Tell us about it.
- 9:44So I like the news article title that I saw.
- 9:49Bugatti is selling a 35, 000 electric car.
- 9:52For kids and I read that and just said, what are you kidding me?
- 9:58I think an alternative title might've worked here.
- 10:01They could have used Bugatti rich people doing rich people things again.
- 10:07Cause I, I, I, what happened to the couple hundred dollar, you
- 10:11know, pow, pow, power wheels.
- 10:13As a kid, I remember seeing, you know, Oh, they have a power wheels.
- 10:17They must be rich.
- 10:18They got a lot of money in hindsight, those poor destitute people.
- 10:22I mean, I don't know how they got by with the plastic power wheels.
- 10:27So, but this article is about the Bugatti Baby 2.
- 10:31And yes, two, it means there was a one before it.
- 10:36So Mr.
- 10:37Bugatti, he made the baby one for his son, his eight year old son at the time.
- 10:42I mean, sure, you're Bugatti, why not, right?
- 10:45But the baby two, this is geared towards teenagers.
- 10:50And so we heard it starts at that modest 35, 000.
- 10:54It doesn't look like a Chiron or a Veyron or anything like that.
- 10:58It's a replica of the 1920s.
- 11:01Type 35 Bugatti, if you're familiar with that, same Bugatti
- 11:06blue and everything, right?
- 11:07And you've got that base model that's at 35, 000, but there are two upgrade
- 11:12versions that you could choose.
- 11:14Starting at 50, 000 or up to 68, depending on the article you read.
- 11:21And they come with the Speed Key.
- 11:25Now, if you're familiar with the Chiron, the Chiron has a speed key,
- 11:29which unlocks the pow pow power.
- 11:33So the models are the Vitesse, French for speed, and the Pursane, pure blood.
- 11:38And when you engage the speed key, these pre learners permit drivers.
- 11:44Can get up to 42 miles an hour and drive it in the driveway
- 11:50because they're not street legal.
- 11:51So I'm not really sure where these people are going, but I'm gonna suppose
- 11:55that if you have $70,000 to spend on your child's toy, that the grounds you
- 12:01live on probably are pretty impressive.
- 12:03So there's space to go driving.
- 12:06I don't know.
- 12:06There's a lot of, I have a lot of questions here.
- 12:08I don't know about you guys.
- 12:09Mainly mine are why?
- 12:11And the only thing I could come up with was rich people, rich people things.
- 12:15Well, my immediate answer was it's French and I was just going to leave it there.
- 12:21I would need to buy two of them just so I can wear them around the shoes.
- 12:26I think it's cool.
- 12:28And let's just say you have the budget and you're like, man,
- 12:31I want the coolest go kart.
- 12:33That I can buy and it's a replica Bugatti type 35.
- 12:37I mean, yeah, that's pretty slick, right?
- 12:39Go karts could you buy for 35, 000 and go faster?
- 12:43You can buy legitimate shifter carts for less money than that.
- 12:46That's it.
- 12:46But here you go.
- 12:47You can buy your Bugatti go kart for 68, 000 or you can buy your
- 12:52little shifter cart for 15 grand and dump, you know, 50 grand into it.
- 12:58And completely blow it out of the water for half the cost.
- 13:01Since we were talking about kids and motorsports and electric vehicles, if
- 13:04you don't want to spend all that money on the Bugatti BB2 or the Aston DB5 Jr.,
- 13:10you should consider getting a go kart.
- 13:12And Brad has said that probably more than once.
- 13:15So if you're looking to get into the world of karting or need to upgrade your
- 13:19gear, the friendly folks from Race Factory USA, who we had on the show a while
- 13:24ago, are extending all of our listeners.
- 13:27A 15 percent off promotion on complete carts for anyone who uses the code GTM
- 13:3515 on orders through January of 2021.
- 13:38So you're looking to gear up for next season or you want to get your kid into
- 13:42carting and not have to spend 68 grand on the hyper key and all this kind of thing.
- 13:47Get yourself a U S built and designed go kart from race factory.
- 13:52Do they have a DE cart because I don't race it's the DK cart for you.
- 13:58The Donkey Kong edition.
- 14:00All right.
- 14:01So moving on from that.
- 14:03So we haven't talked about motorcycles very much at all.
- 14:08And apparently there is a Texas startup that is going to be building an electric
- 14:13motorcycle called the Vulcan grunt.
- 14:17All right, let's, let's stop there.
- 14:19'cause the names are getting really, really good these days.
- 14:24I, I don't make the names up.
- 14:26I just read the names of vol.
- 14:28So let me get this right, the Volcan grunt.
- 14:31So not Volcan.
- 14:33Volcan not, and not Voltron.
- 14:36Not Voltron.
- 14:38Voltron vol.
- 14:39And not gr grunt.
- 14:41Exactly.
- 14:42Now you're with us here, brought to you by the letters.
- 14:47So the Vulcan Grunt is going to be a super affordable EV motorcycle.
- 14:51It's going to be priced at just under 6, 000.
- 14:54So 5, 995 and it's going to be ready allegedly in spring
- 14:59of next year, spring 2021.
- 15:02The motorcycle is going to have 50 horsepower, 75 foot pounds of torque.
- 15:07And it's 60 mile an hour top speed and 100 mile range.
- 15:09Now I just heard everybody keel over going, what the heck?
- 15:13My understanding is I don't think this is at all intended to be a street legal bike.
- 15:19So I don't know much about bicycles, but there were some comments
- 15:22talking about how this bike is very similar looking to a Rokon.
- 15:26And even similarly named, I guess.
- 15:28So for people, motorcycle enthusiasts and, and kind of off
- 15:32roading vehicle enthusiasts, you might know what, what that is.
- 15:37So the intent is, this is more of a hobbyist or worker bike.
- 15:41So if you had, you know, your, I guess it makes sense in Texas, you're on your ranch
- 15:45and you want to get from one side to the other, you hop on your little electric
- 15:49bike and you scoot across the ranch, or maybe you're going to go out hunting or
- 15:53something, and, and this is your bike.
- 15:55It does it.
- 15:55It's basically a electric dirt bike.
- 15:59I mean, if you think about it from that perspective, I can see the appeal.
- 16:03I can see the use I can see sneaking up on wild animals much more easily because you
- 16:08don't have that going on where, you know, you can hear them from half a mile away.
- 16:13So I kind of liked the idea.
- 16:14I could see this being very popular in Asian countries, like, especially like
- 16:18Vietnam and places like that, where motorcycles are extremely popular.
- 16:22And they have a lot of bikes that.
- 16:23over here, we would consider not street legal.
- 16:26I could see something like this working out really, really well.
- 16:30I'm really shocked by the numbers though, because when you tell me,
- 16:33you know, a hundred miles of range and 60 mile an hour, I'm thinking
- 16:36moped on steroids, not motorcycle.
- 16:39So, I mean, neither here nor there, but you know, I'm still holding
- 16:43out for the Tron light cycles.
- 16:45So when those become available, please sign me up.
- 16:47Yes, and apparently this company too, they also do like electric ATVs, or
- 16:52they're going to be doing electric ATVs.
- 16:54So they're very focused on this off roading, hobbyist, not street legal,
- 16:57running down the highway market.
- 16:59So, interesting.
- 17:01So if you're in the market for anything, uh, look out for the Volcon Grunt.
- 17:05At your local grunt dealer, head on down.
- 17:09Alright, so we talked a little bit about cars and I think it's important
- 17:12we get back to holiday shopping.
- 17:13Today is Black Friday, so let's talk about deals that are out there.
- 17:18Today is Tuesday, my friend.
- 17:20Shut up.
- 17:21Today is Gray Tuesday.
- 17:23It's Burgundy Tuesday.
- 17:26So, our holiday shopping guide is traditionally
- 17:28divided into three categories.
- 17:31for your garage, for your So let's talk about some for this holiday season.
- 17:38of carrying around an air
- 17:42Look no further than this Ryobi portable air compressor, lightweight,
- 17:45no larger than your average impact gun.
- 17:48I have to say, I've got one, Eric's got one.
- 17:50I think he's burned out one of them using it so much.
- 17:53I've got an actual air pump that connects to the battery of the car.
- 17:56And I find myself using that 5 percent of the time in the Ryobi 95 percent of
- 18:01the time because it's so convenient.
- 18:02So it's a good piece of kit.
- 18:03Yeah.
- 18:03And it uses the same batteries that all the other Ryobi tools do.
- 18:06So you've, if you've already invested in Ryobi on your shelf, you
- 18:10know, the green brand versus red, yellow, blue, and the rest of them.
- 18:14Yeah.
- 18:14It's 18 volt one plus system, and you can quick charge it in 30 minutes
- 18:18and be out there and inflating all sorts of tires, bicycles, you name
- 18:22it, even basketballs for your kids.
- 18:24Right.
- 18:24And it's available on Amazon for as little.
- 18:27as 30 bucks.
- 18:29One of our favorite things and it's a recurring item on our holiday
- 18:34shopping guide is the QuickJack.
- 18:37The QuickJack is the world's first and only portable car lift to truly
- 18:42meet the needs of wrench turners and professional techs in any situation.
- 18:46It was designed to be taken to the track.
- 18:49It is a portable lift.
- 18:51It's also known as the RangerJack if you search for it on the web.
- 18:54It is able to lift various weights.
- 18:58They make three different models, a 3, 500 pound, a 5, 000
- 19:02pound and a 7, 500 pound model.
- 19:04They're very low profile when they're closed and it's modular
- 19:08and easy to move around.
- 19:09And it fits under just about every vehicle.
- 19:12It's ideal for tight situations where you don't have head height in your garage.
- 19:16And for very low cars where a typical two post or four post lift won't be able to
- 19:21get under the car without putting it up on blocks first or something like that to be
- 19:25able to lift the car the rest of the way.
- 19:26I've had mine for over five years now.
- 19:29I've had very minimal issues with it.
- 19:31A couple silly things, you know, like O rings on the quick connects that have
- 19:34to be replaced after tons and tons of use, you know, changing fluid, which
- 19:37is cheap, you know, five bucks for some ATF, you know, things like that.
- 19:41But if you're searching for one right now, BendPak, the manufacturer of the
- 19:45QuickJack RangerJack is offering a 150 off if you order through them, or you
- 19:49can buy it through Costco and the Black Friday sale for the QuickJack is 250 off.
- 19:57So thanks to Brett and John Richter for bringing that to our attention
- 20:01and for anyone out there that has a home and you've got a furnace in
- 20:04your home and you need air filters, K and N has filters for your furnace.
- 20:08They are lifetime warranty, washable, reusable.
- 20:12You, you buy one K and N filter instead of one box of the
- 20:16throwaways and you're set for life.
- 20:18So check it out.
- 20:20They've got them on Amazon right now.
- 20:22They've got a number of sizes to fit your needs.
- 20:24So go get one.
- 20:26Absolutely.
- 20:26And these are supposed to be hyper allergenic, Merv 11
- 20:29rated, a bunch of other stuff.
- 20:30I have one, Tonya has one and a few of other, other members jumped on top of it.
- 20:34I really liked the quality of the K and N HVAC.
- 20:37filter, it's an aluminum frame with their typical washable filter material.
- 20:41Like you're used to on your car that you would put in the car's air box.
- 20:44So I saw it as a plus and for the price of what I was paying for 3m or other
- 20:49brands at that same level or higher Merv rating, one K and N was the same price.
- 20:56And it's going to last me probably a lifetime.
- 20:59So something to consider next time you got to change your, your
- 21:01furnace filter, and you're also forgetting the most important fact.
- 21:04Every K& N air filter gives you plus five horsepower.
- 21:07Oh, I put that sticker on my furnace.
- 21:09So you have to for when the tech comes out, he doesn't just toss it away.
- 21:14This is a reusable filter.
- 21:16Don't throw away my K& N.
- 21:17That's exactly what it is.
- 21:18Perfect.
- 21:19So speaking of that, you want to spruce up your garage now that
- 21:22you've got it all nice, warm and toasty and running with fresh air.
- 21:26Check out the vintage racing posters available at allposters.
- 21:30com and varying sizes from different eras of racing from Le Mans to World Rally
- 21:36to IndyCar to Formula One, you name it.
- 21:39There are tons of color prints as well, but they're black and white
- 21:42prints are exceptionally beautiful.
- 21:43I have a lot of them hanging around my house and obviously prices vary.
- 21:47So it's a great way to bring some motorsport into the house and
- 21:50have an artistic twist on it.
- 21:52And if you're busy working in the garage, tucking your.
- 21:55Possibly race car away into a deep slumber for the winter, or maybe doing
- 22:00some tune ups to your daily driver.
- 22:02Perhaps you're getting thirsty with all the hard work you're doing.
- 22:05And if you are nostalgic for the old VW camper vans, then this
- 22:11refrigerator might be for you.
- 22:13It's a retro VW fridge inspired by the old VW camper van.
- 22:19So when you look at it from the front, it essentially looks like the
- 22:21front of a VW camper van comes in two colors and comes in a light blue.
- 22:26Uh, like a turquoise or a burgundy color.
- 22:29It's not the largest fridge in the world.
- 22:30They're about two by two by five foot tall.
- 22:33It's a very large mini fridge, but it's slender and sleek looking.
- 22:37And I do not know if you can get it in the United States,
- 22:39because it's sold out of the UK.
- 22:41So I have yet to find the price, because it...
- 22:44about three clicks in.
- 22:45I still wasn't at a price.
- 22:46If you're interested in it, it might be possible to get it here stateside
- 22:49and keep yourself hydrated this winter.
- 22:51So if you're hungry and you're looking for something different, little known
- 22:56fact is that Volkswagen actually has part number one nine nine three nine
- 23:02eight five hundred dash a currywurst.
- 23:06Which apparently is specialty sausage made in house at the Wolfsburg
- 23:10factory by about 30 employees that are trained in the art of making the
- 23:15sausage slash part time butchers, etc.
- 23:19And the majority, unfortunately, of these sausages are sold directly
- 23:24within the different VW plants.
- 23:26But then you can actually find them in grocers across Europe and VW
- 23:31dealerships will also give some away.
- 23:34So if you find yourself in Europe anytime soon, get over to Germany
- 23:39specifically, find yourself a VW dealer or go try and get to the factory
- 23:44and get yourself some currywurst.
- 23:46They do not, unfortunately, ship it to the United States, but if any of
- 23:50our German listeners are listening, please be sure to send these to us.
- 23:54Reach out to GTM on our website and we'll give you an address to send them to.
- 23:59We'll pay for them.
- 24:00Everything.
- 24:00Well, we.
- 24:01are dying to try these sausages.
- 24:03Yeah, I didn't realize they've been making these sausages for 47 years.
- 24:09This is not something new.
- 24:10This has been around for a long time.
- 24:1273.
- 24:13The people's sausage.
- 24:15The people's sausage.
- 24:18So to round out things you should get for your garage.
- 24:20Do you remember?
- 24:22The Bugatti Baby 2.
- 24:24That's my pair of shoes.
- 24:28No.
- 24:28But.
- 24:30Aston Martin.
- 24:33Doesn't want to be outdone by Bugatti.
- 24:35And they too are offering an electric kitty version of one of its iconic cars.
- 24:42The DB5.
- 24:45James Bond.
- 24:48It's Jimmy Bond Jr.
- 24:51So, it's not for your everyday person, okay?
- 24:55This is rich people stuff again, alright?
- 24:57So let's just...
- 24:59She's like, I...
- 25:00You get it?
- 25:01Rich people doing rich people things, yet again.
- 25:06Let's just calibrate here for a second, okay?
- 25:09Because 60, 000 for your child to have an electric car.
- 25:14Now wait a minute, that outspends the Bugatti.
- 25:17Wasn't the Bugatti 58 or something like that?
- 25:19The actual cost range, because of course, there's different models.
- 25:23Right.
- 25:25You get one as low as 47, 000 or as high as 60, 000.
- 25:28Now you're absolutely right.
- 25:29The starting price of the Baby 2 was 35, 000.
- 25:34But it's top of the line speed key blah blah blah was 68, 000.
- 25:40Ooh, 68, 000, that's what it was.
- 25:42So they are in line with each other.
- 25:44Okay.
- 25:44And not only that, so there's, so there are two models of the DB5
- 25:48Electric Junior, and its top speed is 30 miles an hour with a 20 mile range.
- 25:56And then there is the Vantage model.
- 25:59Which goes faster.
- 26:00And that's all they said, so I don't know how much faster
- 26:02it goes, but it goes faster.
- 26:05And if you recall, the Baby 2 also had a 30 mile range.
- 26:09And then its expert mode would go 30 miles an hour, but then the speed key is
- 26:14what brought it up to 42 miles an hour.
- 26:16So I could only assume that the DP5 is going to be something on par with.
- 26:19you know, the Bugatti and be around 40 miles an hour as well.
- 26:23The real question is, is there a James Bond version that has like, I don't know,
- 26:28oil slicks to come out of it or something?
- 26:30That's way better than the speed key.
- 26:33I need all the booby traps and grenades and smoke, smoke screens.
- 26:37But yeah, I mean.
- 26:39Get that on your Christmas list.
- 26:40Well, before we move on, a little note on the Bugatti and the Aston Martin, the
- 26:45little Baby 2 and the BB5 or whatever.
- 26:48Those aren't for your garage.
- 26:50Those are for your kid's garage.
- 26:51Don't you have to have like a separate structure for your kids
- 26:54to park their little toys too?
- 26:57Yes, but more often than not, they'll probably live in my garage taking
- 27:01up space and I get to trip over them and curse at them constantly.
- 27:05Not if you've got enough money though.
- 27:07Your kids are going to have their own little garage.
- 27:09They're going to have their own little driver of their own
- 27:10little DB2 or DB5 or whatever.
- 27:12Can we, can we get baby butlers?
- 27:15Yes.
- 27:16A little bit of others.
- 27:17Those count older children.
- 27:22Yeah.
- 27:22The, the, the younger, you're gonna have multiple kids and then the youngest
- 27:25one is gonna be the little baby butler.
- 27:27I can just imagine this baby in diapers, like detailing their Bugatti.
- 27:31Wax on, wax off, Miyagi style.
- 27:33Fantastic.
- 27:34Like Biff from Back to the Future.
- 27:39It's all signed up for you, boss.
- 27:42But if you're looking to put something extra special in your garage this
- 27:45year, you are still in time to help.
- 27:48us support the International Motor Racing Research Center by entering to win a brand
- 27:55new C8 Corvette through their sweepstakes.
- 27:59If you don't want the C8, you can also opt for 50, 000 in cash
- 28:04as the first prize option there.
- 28:06The sweepstakes have been extended to the end of December.
- 28:11So December 28th is when the sweepstakes end and the drawing will begin.
- 28:16They've also extended us a great promotion code.
- 28:19So if you want to up your chances of winning that Corvette or winning the
- 28:21cash, use the promotion code at checkout.
- 28:26K.
- 28:26I.
- 28:26P.
- 28:2725 to get bonus tickets when you make your purchase.
- 28:31All proceeds from the event go to helping fund the International
- 28:36Motor Racing Research Center.
- 28:39And please be sure to visit the episode that we recorded with them previously.
- 28:43And you can find out all the details about the center and everything they
- 28:47do and how they provide and give back to the motor sports community.
- 28:50So great cause great people.
- 28:52Best of luck if you're trying to win that Corvette and get
- 28:54it in your garage this winter.
- 28:56So to continue on with the, what should I buy?
- 28:59Eric, what would you buy for your garage for you?
- 29:01Or what do you want somebody to buy you for your garage?
- 29:04You know what I really want?
- 29:06That alignment machine?
- 29:06I want, no, I want that set of every size of 10 millimeter socket that exists.
- 29:12You seen that thing going around?
- 29:14I mean, for the love of God, I have lost every 10 I can think of.
- 29:17I know exactly.
- 29:21Where they are.
- 29:23I know where mountain man Dan's are there in the woods because I dropped them there.
- 29:29I bought every 12.
- 29:30I don't know why, but cause you can't find the tens in the store.
- 29:34You can find the twelfths.
- 29:35Exactly.
- 29:36So yeah, I really want that mix match set of sockets.
- 29:39So that that's definitely got my name all over.
- 29:42It's not exciting, but I actually would like a set of really nice, really nice.
- 29:46Whatever.
- 29:47I would like a set of.
- 29:48The, uh, like jewelers, screwdrivers, those type of really thin, but also long
- 29:54that you could reach, like, if you had several inches that you need to reach,
- 29:57but you need a very fine Phillips or flathead, I would like a set of jewelers.
- 30:01I'd also like a set of, uh, nut drivers, the, the multi size.
- 30:06Yeah.
- 30:06Cause I'm tired of using.
- 30:08Like a socket and a wrench.
- 30:10It's, it's a pain in the ass.
- 30:11I'd rather just have some, you know, some nut drivers.
- 30:13I know something that Tanya would like that was on a previous
- 30:16holiday shopping article.
- 30:18Those are the indexed wrenches from gear wrench, those dual
- 30:22pivot ratcheting wrenches.
- 30:24Those have come in super handy on multiple jobs where it's very difficult to reach
- 30:28and very difficult to turn the wrench.
- 30:31Those are the ones that were such a gigantic lifesaver when we
- 30:34changed the steering rack on that.
- 30:35Yeah.
- 30:36They're super awesome.
- 30:37Those, those turned a fricking six hour job into.
- 30:4145 minutes only hours.
- 30:44I think if it takes you that long to reach the frickin bolt, yeah, you're
- 30:46moving an eighth of a turn at a time.
- 30:48Those index wrenches were a lifesaver and I've used them for multiple jobs.
- 30:52You set them where you want.
- 30:53I mean, you're talking, you know, very severe degrees of angle where
- 30:56you can set that thing and then you have all this motion or you leave them
- 30:59wide open and you literally pump it.
- 31:01Like a train piston moving a wheel.
- 31:03And I mean, it's so awesome.
- 31:05The ability to reach with those things.
- 31:06So I could see that on Tanya's list for sure.
- 31:09And another thing I need is new blades for my Dremel because cutting
- 31:12the hole in my, for the insert on my bumper, I broke about four.
- 31:18What's those stupid blades?
- 31:19Those stupid little wheels?
- 31:20And if Mountain Man Dan's listening right now, he's, he's yelling at his
- 31:24speaker going, you need an angle grinder.
- 31:27That's what you really need.
- 31:29I was cutting plastic.
- 31:31I wasn't cutting anything serious.
- 31:32Hey, you could still cut with an angle grinder.
- 31:35Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 31:35I need his plasma cutter to cut plastic.
- 31:38That's what he's saying.
- 31:39I'll fix it right up.
- 31:41So let's move on to gifts for your ride.
- 31:45Keep your eyes out on the Garmin Catalyst driving trainer, which is now being
- 31:50sponsored in part by Ross Bentley, who many of us know through speed secrets
- 31:54and as many webinars, and he's come to personally coach some of us through the
- 31:58motorsport safety foundation, and he makes guest appearances at many clubs, you
- 32:01know, chin and HRD, et cetera, et cetera.
- 32:04He is involved in a.
- 32:06Aim like device, which looks like a old school Garmin that you'd
- 32:10have up on your dashboard GPS base.
- 32:12And it's designed to coach you through a lap, make you faster, work with
- 32:16you eliminates the human factor, but it uses a bunch of AI to analyze
- 32:20your laps and make you go faster.
- 32:23Before we move on though, I want to say about that Garmin, I pray.
- 32:27That the person giving guidance and, uh, advice and stuff, the
- 32:31computer, the AI that's talking back to you is Arnold Schwarzenegger.
- 32:36It's gotta be him.
- 32:36Dude.
- 32:37I, uh, I still want to get to the chopper.
- 32:39If you do not take the turn and get the apex.
- 32:43Hey, apex is out.
- 32:45You must track out.
- 32:48Oh my God.
- 32:49That's where's my tortilla.
- 32:51Anyway, I will say the price tag is hefty on this thing and if it wasn't for
- 32:56that Boy, does it look gorgeous the user interface in it and everything like that?
- 33:00I mean, it looks like it would be a high quality product, but outside my
- 33:04budget I think we all gasped at the price, but it is price competitively
- 33:08against the AIM Solo 2 and especially the Solo 2 DL, the ones that offer the
- 33:15OBD2 services and things like that.
- 33:16So I don't think it's too far off.
- 33:17It's a little shocking because a lot of us don't think you bought
- 33:20your AIM so many years ago and it's one of those tried and true devices
- 33:24that you've made the investment and it pays for itself over the years.
- 33:28This is the next generation of a tool like that.
- 33:30Now what I'm really excited for is what's AIM going to come up with.
- 33:35In retaliation to this device from Garmin, because Garmin's
- 33:38the new kid in this space, right?
- 33:42So maybe they'll send Garmin back to making fitness watches and, uh, AIM will
- 33:46come out with something even better.
- 33:47Garmin makes more fitness watches.
- 33:50They've been making, you know, they've got the bicycle huds and everything.
- 33:54So, especially when you're going off trail and things like that, they've
- 33:57got a lot of hiking, um, It's true.
- 33:59GPS watches and things of that nature.
- 34:01So, I mean.
- 34:02They clearly can do the GPS function.
- 34:05Oh, absolutely.
- 34:06Absolutely.
- 34:06I was, I was just poking a little fun at Garmin, right?
- 34:09As seen in our GTM article, the battle against brake dust, which is a multi
- 34:14part article that I wrote about trying to keep your track wheels clean.
- 34:18I found this nifty little tool that's made our shopping guide more than once.
- 34:22It's known as the Brush Hero Pro.
- 34:25And basically the way it works is it is a water rotary.
- 34:29And a lot of people online, if you go read about it, and I've done a
- 34:32couple of reviews in the positive light for this tool, we'll say, Oh,
- 34:35this is going to scratch your wheels.
- 34:37And Oh, my God.
- 34:38And these are really the car show purists that, you know, they want to
- 34:40rub everything with a diaper and that's totally fine, but for everyday use with
- 34:45the right soaps and everything, the brush hero is an amazing tool and it's.
- 34:48saves a lot of time, especially if you have multi spoke wheels, older wheels,
- 34:54basket weaves, you know, things like that that are just a pain in the neck
- 34:57to clean and never really come clean with the traditional brush or rag.
- 35:01The brush hero again is a water rotary.
- 35:03It is not electric.
- 35:04It is powered by your water pressure.
- 35:06It spins the brush brush while also using four jets.
- 35:10To inject water into the cleaning area that you're looking at.
- 35:13It turns at low speed.
- 35:15The bristle brushes are of different types, and it comes with four of them.
- 35:18When you buy it, they're all pretty soft.
- 35:20There's just more bristles on one than the other, so it's kind of a
- 35:23coarse clean versus a detailed clean.
- 35:26I've been using mine now for a couple of years.
- 35:28I love it.
- 35:29And I, I don't want to go back to cleaning wheels the old way.
- 35:32So if you want to learn more about that and how it works, go
- 35:35to our website, gtmotorsports.
- 35:36org and search for battle against brake dust.
- 35:38You can read out all about it and about the chemicals we used and we tested on
- 35:43the various wheels along with this tool.
- 35:46If you're interested in buying the brush hero, you can find it on Amazon for 45
- 35:50bucks and you can buy replacement brushes.
- 35:54in a multi pack for about 10 to 15.
- 35:57So, and also check out our YouTube channel for a review of
- 36:00the product as well in action.
- 36:02This next product is designed to help you not be left on the side
- 36:06of the road with a flat tire.
- 36:07These V Safe Universal Solar TPMS Wireless Tire Pressure Monitoring System has four
- 36:13external cap sensors, real time display.
- 36:16I use it on my trailer.
- 36:17It works really well.
- 36:18I haven't had any issues with it.
- 36:19It's great to know.
- 36:21With my trailer tire pressures are at, you know, as I'm going down the
- 36:24road, because I mean, you can only look back and see him, you know, so often.
- 36:28So it's available on Amazon.
- 36:3072 99.
- 36:32Get it.
- 36:33I agree, man.
- 36:33It's great to have that early warning system and an
- 36:36ability to monitor my trailer.
- 36:37And I'm with you.
- 36:38I can't see it.
- 36:39I mean, if the wheel flies off, I might be able to catch it.
- 36:42But at that point, it's too late.
- 36:43Or if I'm dragging a flat, It's really hard to tell with
- 36:47it being that far behind me.
- 36:48So having a TPMS for the trailer is, in my opinion, crucial hardware
- 36:52for your ride, for your rig.
- 36:54If you're, if you're using trailers a lot, and even if you're not going
- 36:57to the track, maybe you're just pulling a landscaper or you're, you're
- 37:00pulling a tractor or even horses.
- 37:03This would be great for any trailer application or anything where you just
- 37:06want to put a tire pressure monitor on a wheel and tire, and you don't
- 37:09want to have to get the onboard ones like you would have on your car.
- 37:13But since we're talking about tire pressure monitoring systems,
- 37:16you know, a lot of us spend time at the track, worrying about our
- 37:19tire temperatures, worrying about our pressures and what's ideal.
- 37:22And when we can really give it the beans in a corner, you know,
- 37:25are my tires hot enough yet?
- 37:26Or am I getting that heat in the rear that I was looking for?
- 37:29Well, there's a company out there named.
- 37:30Orange, not to be confused with the formula one team for many
- 37:33years ago, they make a universal tire pressure monitoring system.
- 37:37It comes with four internal sensors that you have to have mounted to your wheels.
- 37:42And then it gives you a real time display that you can mount on your
- 37:45dashboard, you know, permanently affix it or Velcro or whatever you want to do.
- 37:49It'll give you different alarm functions for if the tires are too cold.
- 37:52The tires are too hot.
- 37:53It gives you internal temperature of the tire.
- 37:56It also gives you pressures as they're changing.
- 37:59And there's a couple other different modes you can use on that same display.
- 38:02I personally have this device.
- 38:04I think it's absolutely awesome.
- 38:06It's been a lifesaver at the track, especially doing time
- 38:08trials and other things.
- 38:09Cause I'm getting real time data from my tires as I'm out there on track.
- 38:14And then I know, Hey, my three warmup laps, their warmup laps.
- 38:17My tires are ready to go.
- 38:19Let's go for it.
- 38:19Let's let's put some hot laps down.
- 38:21So for.
- 38:22You know, the 130 bucks that this unit costs, I think it's well worth it.
- 38:26The other thing is the tire pressure monitors themselves are
- 38:29probably the most expensive part.
- 38:31And oddly enough, I did a little research and it seems like they're
- 38:34using Ford off the shelf TPMS sensors.
- 38:38So if you blow one out, you can always get more.
- 38:41And they also say that you can buy more sensors and link it.
- 38:45To the one head unit that you have, so you could have multiple sets
- 38:48of wheels with TPMS is on them.
- 38:51So I think it's a valuable tool.
- 38:53It's a great time saver.
- 38:55Don't have to worry about parameters and all that kind of stuff.
- 38:57And it's giving you that functionality that a lot of the modern cars have for.
- 39:01So for those of us with older vehicles, this is a great plus and
- 39:05a great little gadget that will help you when you're out there.
- 39:07And if anybody from my viewership is listening.
- 39:11This probably would have helped me not spin in turn one in BIR if my tires were
- 39:16actually up to the right temperature.
- 39:17So, uh, anybody that's worried about my safety, wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
- 39:23All right.
- 39:24I'll continue on with the what should I buy?
- 39:26How about for your ride?
- 39:27Oh, thanks for my ride.
- 39:29I'm weird because I'm still trying to get parts for the Wookiee wagon from Europe.
- 39:33And so I think one of the things I really want.
- 39:37are the center caps for those ALMS wheels, the VW style
- 39:42ones instead of the Audi ones.
- 39:44I've been looking for those forever, so that's on my wishlist right now.
- 39:48And hopefully I'll be able to find them.
- 39:50I know it's a UK thing or European thing, but hopefully I can track a set down.
- 39:54I've been asking people all over the place.
- 39:56I've been scouring all over the web, looking for them.
- 39:59I too would like a set of center caps, oddly enough, because I lost one,
- 40:06unfortunately, off the Mille Miglia wheels that I have on my daily driver.
- 40:11And then a second one broke, which I have it, but one of the, it's
- 40:15missing two of the pegs now, so I don't trust it to stay on anymore.
- 40:19So I have two out of four.
- 40:21So another set, which I know are available, I think on the grand eBay's.
- 40:27So what about you, Brad?
- 40:28What about for your car?
- 40:29What are you looking for?
- 40:29Well, you know, I'm not as, uh, my cars aren't as close to being done,
- 40:34I guess, as your guys cars are.
- 40:36So there's huge things on my list, but, you know, it's nothing that
- 40:39I would ask anybody to get me.
- 40:41But if Santa was listening and feeling generous.
- 40:44I need a roll cage for the GTI, uh, which means I also need fixed back seats.
- 40:50Anybody that wants to go down to OG and, and test fit me,
- 40:54you can get me some seats.
- 40:55I'd like a new stereo for the Tundra because the stereo that I got,
- 40:59the junkyard stereo doesn't have Sirius XM for some stupid reason.
- 41:03So I need to get a new stereo for the Tundra and, uh, Yeah,
- 41:06that's what I want for my rides.
- 41:09Maybe a gift certificate to crutchfield.
- 41:11com, right?
- 41:11The, uh, the audio, uh, superstore there, right?
- 41:14That might be something to think about.
- 41:15Not to be confused with our crutchfield, but yeah, crutchfield.
- 41:18com.
- 41:19I do need that.
- 41:20Well, I don't need it, but...
- 41:22We don't need any of this stuff, any of this stuff, but if Santa were
- 41:26just magically dropping stuff off the adapter for the aux cable on the older
- 41:31style radios, it doesn't have that.
- 41:33So you don't have to use a car cassette adapter, which still works
- 41:36flawlessly, which a member actually recommended the exact unit for the.
- 41:42component to, to buy.
- 41:45That is some retro stuff right there.
- 41:47Hey man, that car cassette adapter still works.
- 41:51So let's talk a little bit about GIFs for you, not necessarily
- 41:55Brad, but for you, the automobile.
- 41:57No, no, no, I need, I need all the GIFs.
- 42:00Many of you may or may not know the DeLorean Motor Company still exists.
- 42:05It is based out of Texas and they are still working on developing a
- 42:10new version of the DeLorean, and we wrote about this in an article earlier
- 42:14this year that Mountain Man Dan put together, because he's a big fan of the
- 42:17DeLorean, unbeknownst to most of us.
- 42:20But, you can now own your own time machine.
- 42:23And I'm not talking about a gull winged stainless steel car.
- 42:26No.
- 42:28Texas based DMC Motors has licensed the rights to DMC
- 42:32logos, uh, style, patterns, etc.
- 42:36to the UK based Charlie Foxtrot Watches to release a line of
- 42:41DeLorean inspired DMC watches.
- 42:45And so the website is dmc watch.
- 42:48com.
- 42:49They have seven different styles and they clock in, ha ha, pun
- 42:54intended, between 130 and 150 US.
- 42:57So they're really affordable.
- 42:58They're actually very stylish.
- 43:00All of the bezels are stainless steel and you can check them out on the website.
- 43:05Really cool stuff.
- 43:06So yes, you can now own your own DeLorean at a very affordable price,
- 43:10unlike the DeLoreans that are going to be coming out of Texas, which
- 43:14will probably have a sticker price.
- 43:17well above 100, 000.
- 43:18Do they come with a line of coke?
- 43:22One of the things that's come across our desk and we're actually trying
- 43:25it out this year with much success and much enjoyment is a subscription
- 43:29service known as petrol box.
- 43:32It's the number one automotive enthusiast subscription box.
- 43:36Each box contains handpicked items, including tools wearables, garage
- 43:41gear, detailing supplies, magazines, collectibles, coupons, and more.
- 43:46Every box is different.
- 43:47Every month is different.
- 43:48Every month is themed.
- 43:50There is no contract.
- 43:51You can cancel at any time.
- 43:53Boxes do range from 20 to 40 a month, and there are discounts if
- 43:58you go with a full year subscription.
- 44:01I've had PetroBox now for about six months.
- 44:04I've been happy with every box that's come.
- 44:06It's been a great thing to have.
- 44:08Lots of really cool stuff I probably wouldn't have bought
- 44:10myself or have known about.
- 44:12So it's, you know, new products to try.
- 44:14Some really unique tools.
- 44:16Really cool gifts and potential giveaways.
- 44:18Speaking of boxes, Road and Track actually has a Road and track kids
- 44:23club, basically kind of a similar thing where you get a box maybe a month or
- 44:27at some frequency and it's, it's car related things geared towards kids.
- 44:31So there might be little hot wheels cars in there.
- 44:33There could be comic books that are car themed.
- 44:35They're specifically made.
- 44:36And then like, I think there's even little trading cards that have cars on them.
- 44:40So we're trying to get kids engaged and excited about motorsports.
- 44:43If you have any little kids of varying ages, maybe it's something
- 44:46you could look into for the little ones, not you, but you're you juniors.
- 44:51I think I'm going to sign up for this service myself.
- 44:54Hey, you said Hot Wheels.
- 44:55You have my attention.
- 44:57The post office has released for the first time Hot Wheels inspired stamps.
- 45:02So you can start using those on your Christmas cards as
- 45:04you're getting prepared.
- 45:06But in addition to that, if you're a Hot Wheels collector or Matchbox, which
- 45:09is owned by Mattel as well, and you like collecting that scale of vehicle,
- 45:14be careful while you're out there.
- 45:15I happen to do this myself.
- 45:17There are collectors out there who are spending.
- 45:20thousands on limited and rare additions of Hot Wheels cars.
- 45:25This is not new news to really anybody that's in that space.
- 45:28A lot of those old red line Hot Wheels from the 60s and 70s, things
- 45:32like that, they're worth a mint.
- 45:34But this is also the reason why when you go to your local Target, Walmart,
- 45:38Walgreens, whatever, you can never find the Hot Edition cars of the year.
- 45:43And little trick to people to do collect or you're looking, look in different
- 45:48states and different areas because Mattel distributes different paint schemes,
- 45:52different models to different parts of the United States and hope that the collector
- 45:55network distributes that almost like coins being minted in Denver versus being
- 46:00minted in Philadelphia and how they, you know, make it from one coast the other.
- 46:04So Mattel implements a similar strategy and they also do limited
- 46:07quantities and limited batches of certain vehicles, paint schemes, etc.
- 46:11So not to diverge too far on that, but since we're talking about
- 46:14the post office a little bit.
- 46:16We also issued a small matchbox size postal jeep that you can buy for 5.
- 46:2699 and I think they have a larger semi truck option which is about 30 bucks.
- 46:30And the money goes to helping USPS out.
- 46:34So if you're into, again, collecting the little Matchbox Hot Wheels
- 46:38type cars, you could add a USPS postal truck to your collection.
- 46:43Very cool.
- 46:44But speaking of collectibles, auto art.
- 46:48For those of you that might not be familiar is probably one of the number one
- 46:53brands when it comes to making replica die cast vehicles and models, they range from,
- 46:59you know, 1 18 scale 1 43rd and so on.
- 47:02But they've also gotten themselves into making.
- 47:05automotive related household items.
- 47:08And as an example, they have a Weber carburetor, salt and pepper shaker.
- 47:14It looks just like a two barrel Weber or two barrel Delorto.
- 47:17If you're into Italian carburetors and they also have
- 47:20a Camaro muffler spice grinder.
- 47:23They have towel racks in the shape of upper stress bars.
- 47:27All sorts of interesting cutlery and cups and dishes and things like that.
- 47:32Really cool stuff.
- 47:33And the prices are actually quite reasonable considering how expensive the
- 47:37models can be from, from time to time.
- 47:40As an example, the carburetor salt and pepper shaker retails for around a hundred
- 47:44dollars right off of their website.
- 47:46And remember auto art is top quality replica.
- 47:49So all things coming from auto art are going to look.
- 47:52Like the original item and we're very close to so really cool stuff.
- 47:56Very unique talking piece.
- 47:57Somebody comes out and goes, why the heck do you have a carburetor
- 47:59sitting on your kitchen table?
- 48:00Well, here you want some salt.
- 48:01You want some pepper?
- 48:02Have at it.
- 48:03And for many of us enthusiasts, when it comes to fashion, socks are the new tie.
- 48:08Everybody check out heel tread and there's collection of motorsport
- 48:11and racing inspired socks.
- 48:14They've got other things too.
- 48:15A couple of those little things, but mostly socks.
- 48:18Anybody that follows me on Instagram, uh, knows that I got
- 48:21all my groomsmen, these socks.
- 48:22Uh, I've got probably 10 to 15 pairs.
- 48:24So I'm, I'm all in with, uh, with heel tread and I love them.
- 48:27So, uh, go get you some.
- 48:29Yeah, you started a whole nother collection problem for me.
- 48:32Now I got, I got watches, I got cars, I got socks.
- 48:36As long as nobody buys me ties, we're okay.
- 48:39Cause I think ties are out.
- 48:40You're right.
- 48:40Socks are the new tie.
- 48:42And what, and what motor or what a heel tread is doing now is
- 48:45they've actually got some inspired.
- 48:46I think earlier in the year, they had some that were inspired by
- 48:49tanks and now they've got some that are inspired by airplanes.
- 48:53Uh, it's like the world war two era, like the mustangs.
- 48:56Yeah, exactly.
- 48:57Yeah.
- 48:57So they've got a really cool collection.
- 48:59The way they tie into the vehicles, they don't have pictures of cars on them.
- 49:03They're inspired by these vehicles and the designs and everything.
- 49:07And they're really slick the way they do it really retro, really cool.
- 49:10I like them all.
- 49:11And act now because they are having a black Friday sale and you could get
- 49:15up to 50 percent off select styles.
- 49:20That's actually really good.
- 49:21Considering the MSRP on the socks ranges from nine to 12.
- 49:25So you're talking about a high quality pair of dress socks for like
- 49:29four and a half bucks to six bucks.
- 49:31That's really, really good.
- 49:32And to be perfectly honest with everybody that's listening, they're
- 49:35one of the most comfortable dress socks I've actually worn because I
- 49:38would wear them to work every day.
- 49:39I didn't get the hole around my calf where the elastics biting into my biting into
- 49:43me or they're falling down all the time.
- 49:45Like you buy a brand new pair of socks.
- 49:47Always yanking them up.
- 49:48They've been great.
- 49:49And I almost don't even realize I'm wearing them.
- 49:51And to be even more transparent, I have a pair in my track bag that I wear
- 49:57with my Sparko booties because they are, you know, not a hundred percent
- 50:01synthetic, they are cotton based.
- 50:03So I can wear those, you know, underneath my racing suit and stuff like that.
- 50:06And I like the fact that they're thin and they gave me that feel and I don't have
- 50:10to worry about yanking them up all day.
- 50:12But I think over time they've kind of developed it.
- 50:13It's almost like a hybrid dress kind of sports sock.
- 50:17They're a little bit thicker, a little bit more comfortable.
- 50:19They don't wear through like, like other dress socks do.
- 50:23Uh, so I, I think they're, they're a great piece of kit.
- 50:25And I'm still looking to try out their sport socks.
- 50:27I just, you know, I kind of wonder, cause I do like low cuts, but I'm like, are you
- 50:31really going to see my Lotus or Porsche golf livery inspired low cut socks?
- 50:36If they're low enough in my shoe.
- 50:38I mean, so for me, I'm, I'm still on the fence about that.
- 50:40So he'll try the GTI ones.
- 50:43So he'll, so he'll tread.
- 50:44If you're listening, I'll take us, I'll take a pair to try them out.
- 50:47They actually did send me a pair of free socks.
- 50:49It's more for you to enjoy as you have your feet up on your Ottoman
- 50:52or your table, enjoying some Netflix or Hulu or Amazon prime.
- 50:57Yeah.
- 50:57When you're watching the latest, uh, car inspired, you know, Netflix documentary,
- 51:02and you've got your, your auto art.
- 51:04Salt and pepper shaker eating your, your dinner or whatever, and you can watch
- 51:09yourself having a drink out of your VW fridge as you stare across your toes.
- 51:13Yeah, you're enjoying your VW sausage.
- 51:15I'm watching my baby butler buff.
- 51:17My baby to try saying that 10 times fast.
- 51:23So speaking of apparel, what else is on the list?
- 51:25Brad?
- 51:26I'm wearing one now.
- 51:27Everybody's got a shirt from blip shift pretty much nowadays.
- 51:30I think I think everybody in the in the North America's has
- 51:33a blip shift shirt to speak of.
- 51:36I'm wearing the G.
- 51:37T.
- 51:37I.
- 51:371.
- 51:38I've they've got many different styles.
- 51:40They've got the thicker ones.
- 51:42They've got long sleeve.
- 51:43They got short sleeve.
- 51:44Mine, I've, I've started getting the tribe blend because I found that they
- 51:47don't shrink, uh, as much, uh, the, the thick ones, the heavy duty ones were a
- 51:52little too much, a little too thick for me, especially for summertime and stuff.
- 51:56The, the fitted ones, I liked them, but they shrunk really quickly.
- 52:00Uh, the tribe blend seemed to be the way to go for me.
- 52:02Uh, and they've got all kinds of different styles.
- 52:04Every single day, they come out with a new design every once in a while.
- 52:07I don't know if they're doing it now or not, but they, they roll out.
- 52:10past designs to have like a huge sale, I guess, to clear out inventory.
- 52:14Uh, you don't have to get a t shirt or a long sleeve shirt.
- 52:17You can also get a poster of the designs.
- 52:19So yeah, go to Blipshift and get some of that cool stuff.
- 52:23So since we're still talking about apparel, our friends at OG Racing.
- 52:26Are doing closeouts on various brands of helmets.
- 52:31So there are some really great deals out there on 2015, right?
- 52:35And as, as we learn on the safety as a system episode, there's a reason to
- 52:39update your helmet more often than the 11 year expiration period would suggest.
- 52:47Remember that 2015 helmets.
- 52:50are good until 2026 and a lot of the 2020 helmets are just now
- 52:55starting to ship and you may not be able to get them until next year.
- 52:59So honestly, if you've got a 20 10 right now and you're trying to get
- 53:04into something else, uh, because they expire next year and maybe a little
- 53:08later because of COVID and not having the track time, you know, getting into a
- 53:122015 and helmet that's five years newer, it's going to have newer hookups in it.
- 53:17Radio hookups are becoming standard now.
- 53:20You're not allowed to drill your helmets anymore.
- 53:22So, you know, as we learned, you know, the posts are going to be
- 53:24there, all that kind of stuff.
- 53:25The black Friday sales for OG racing are running from November 20th.
- 53:30Through December 7th, and they're taking 20 percent off all closeout
- 53:35items, including SA 2015 helmets.
- 53:38That's all brands, your ruse, your sparkles, your steelers, your
- 53:41bells, and so on down the line.
- 53:44Apex pro you're looking at 10 percent off all items that are in stock.
- 53:49And 15 percent off all O.
- 53:51M.
- 53:52P.
- 53:52and that would be all O.
- 53:54M.
- 53:54P.
- 53:54sport items.
- 53:55And so sport will be in the name of the item.
- 53:57So 15 percent off those and B.
- 54:002 helmets apex running at 199 95 and the B.
- 54:062 helmet known as the vision running at 179 95.
- 54:11through December 31st.
- 54:13So there's an extended sale on the B2 brand of helmets.
- 54:17So if you want to find out more about those particular sales.
- 54:20Hop on over to www.
- 54:23ogracing.
- 54:24com or reach out to Mark Francis, who was on the show earlier
- 54:27this year at mark at ogracing.
- 54:31com as well, I believe the showroom is open again, but I
- 54:35would definitely call OG Racing.
- 54:37To make sure you don't need an appointment, uh, if you want to
- 54:39run down there last minute and see what they have on the shelf or try
- 54:42something on, but you can call them.
- 54:44Their staff is super knowledgeable and they'll be able to virtually fit
- 54:48you as well, based on some criteria as we learned on that previous episode.
- 54:53And if you're looking for Mark, he told me before that he's
- 54:56there pretty much every Thursday.
- 54:57Perfect.
- 54:58Even better.
- 54:59So thanks to the guys at OG for extending those, uh, promotions
- 55:02and letting us know about it.
- 55:03So moving on to talking back about the OG and the, all the stuff that you can buy,
- 55:08you know, for safety for you and your car.
- 55:10You need that stuff when you go to the track and hooked on driving or one of
- 55:13the, you know, the many organizations out there that provide track events
- 55:17and track days and stuff like that.
- 55:19They have what's called a frequent driver program.
- 55:21They offer it two times per year.
- 55:23And it works out on a sliding scale.
- 55:26I think basically you spend a certain amount of money.
- 55:28The more you spend, the extra bonuses you get.
- 55:31Um, there's two levels.
- 55:32There's the gold and the silver level.
- 55:34If you've got any questions, you can surely reach out to Hooked on Driving.
- 55:37You can reach out to Mona directly if you're here in the Northeast,
- 55:40uh, and she'll hook you up.
- 55:41They've got, uh, also gift certificates as well.
- 55:44Somebody gave me one as a wedding gift that I was very happy about.
- 55:47So if you yourself want to go to the track or, you know,
- 55:50some people that you want to.
- 55:52Send to the track, reach out to Hoked On Driving and get, get yourself a frequent
- 55:56driver program or some gift certificates.
- 55:59And speaking of gift certificates, Mark Hicks, who was on the show
- 56:02earlier this year, also mentioned to us that Chin Track Days has online
- 56:08gift certificate sales as well.
- 56:10So you can actually go to their website, ChinTrackDays.
- 56:13com and purchase gift certificates for Chin Track Weekend as well.
- 56:18And again, these are just Two of the many clubs out there to offer this kind
- 56:21of service that people don't realize you can buy a track day for someone else.
- 56:26So gift your petrol head, a track day, probably heard over the years,
- 56:31you could get all sorts of Cadillac cologne and Jaguar driving gloves and
- 56:36Volkswagen sausages, Volkswagen sausages, and Porsche designed sunglasses.
- 56:41But did you know?
- 56:43A name that's synonymous with motor sports, that being Momo has a website
- 56:48devoted to apparel and accessories and motorcycle gear, et cetera.
- 56:54It's known as Momo design.
- 56:56You can check it out by using the link that's in the follow on article
- 56:59to this episode, but they carry a full online store with his and hers
- 57:03apparel, motorcycle gear, sunglasses, watches, accessories, and more.
- 57:08And it's all reasonably priced and is made and ships from Italy.
- 57:12So right from Momo, really cool stuff.
- 57:14One of the other things you might be able to get for your loved one is
- 57:18Something that's actually free right now, and that's a membership to one
- 57:24of our new partners, Garage Riot.
- 57:25Garage Riot is the car enthusiast social network.
- 57:29It's a great place for petrolheads, motorsports fanatics, anybody
- 57:33that's into cars, even casually.
- 57:35It's a great place to share ideas, share stories, pictures, events you're going
- 57:40to, et cetera, with like minded people.
- 57:42It's a great down to earth environment.
- 57:44It's not like anything you've probably used before.
- 57:47It's not like your Instagrams and your Facebook groups and things like that.
- 57:50It's really geared for petrol heads and motorsports and car enthusiasts alike.
- 57:54A great environment.
- 57:55Brad and I are on there along with a bunch of other GTM members.
- 57:58So head on over to Garage Riot and check it out.
- 58:00So that's www.
- 58:03garageriot.
- 58:03com and stay tuned for an upcoming episode where we dig in deep with the CEO and
- 58:09founder of Garage Riot so you can learn all about the service in more detail.
- 58:13What about for you?
- 58:14What is something that Eric wants, not for his car, not for his garage, or Tanya,
- 58:19not for her car, not for her garage?
- 58:21You know, Jess would cringe at me saying this, but...
- 58:27I could go for another motorsport or car inspired watch, to be
- 58:32honest with you, because like the DeLorean watch is fantastic.
- 58:36It's a really gorgeous watch in person, but there's some
- 58:39really cool ones out there.
- 58:41There's some Porsche watches, BMW motorsport ones, even though I'm
- 58:44not the biggest BMW fan, but some other Their kit is really cool.
- 58:49The Momo watches are pretty neat.
- 58:51If you're looking at those, I like stuff like that.
- 58:54I will say one thing just for me that I think I would like to have,
- 58:58and this is because I recently posted about this on Garage Riot
- 59:01and I watched a video on motorsport.
- 59:04tv, I would like to have a model.
- 59:07Of the first Jaeger liveried car.
- 59:11And that happens to be a nine 14, six, that'd be a good yet, right?
- 59:16They just got to find it.
- 59:17That's the, that's the thing.
- 59:18And if you don't know what I'm talking about, head over to motorsport.
- 59:21tv and search for Jaeger Meister.
- 59:23Uh, there's a 30 minute video on there, uh, talking about the history of the
- 59:27Jaeger cars and one of the largest collections, single owner collections
- 59:30of Jaeger liveried cars, et cetera.
- 59:32And he happens to also in his showroom have a.
- 59:35The largest collection of Jaeger models.
- 59:38Uh, there's about 144 of them total.
- 59:41He's got them in one 43rd scale, but I thought it was really cool that he owns
- 59:46car number one Jaeger livery, number one, and the final Jaeger livery car, which
- 59:51happens to be a Opel touring car V8.
- 59:53And the first one is a 914 six.
- 59:55And then he's got a ton of cars in between really good episode, really cool
- 59:59stuff, definitely worth checking out.
- 1:00:01So what about you, Brad?
- 1:00:02Just for you?
- 1:00:03Uh, just for me.
- 1:00:04Well, you know, you're, you're talking about Jaeger and everything.
- 1:00:07I'm actually getting a little thirsty.
- 1:00:08So a new bottle of Jaeger would be great for me and in my freezer.
- 1:00:12Uh, also to go with that, to go with that case of rich energy you have and my Haribo
- 1:00:20And then I also I used to have 1 and I don't know what happened to it.
- 1:00:25I thought I gave it to you.
- 1:00:26I had a 1 18 scale mark for G.
- 1:00:29T.
- 1:00:29I.
- 1:00:30and I do not know what happened to it.
- 1:00:32I'm so furious that I can't find it.
- 1:00:34Um, but I want 1 and then I want to sand it down and kind of paint it.
- 1:00:40Like my car and essentially just do a replica.
- 1:00:43Now there is a company on Instagram that I follow, but they actually make
- 1:00:47wooden models of anything you want.
- 1:00:49You send them pictures.
- 1:00:50I'm sure it's super expensive, but someday I feel like I will
- 1:00:54have, I will have one of those.
- 1:00:57That's actually really cool.
- 1:00:58Especially 118 scale cars.
- 1:01:00Those are harder to come by anymore.
- 1:01:02Everybody seems to have shifted to 140 third.
- 1:01:05I have a problem moving to that, right?
- 1:01:06I mean, we talked about this about, you know, the model Jeep and the
- 1:01:10Hot Wheels and stuff like that.
- 1:01:12It's hard to transition to a whole new collection.
- 1:01:14I mean, I started with 118.
- 1:01:16And I have a lot of them and they're, they're really cool, but then it's like,
- 1:01:19you look at a hot wheels, you know, one 64th scale, I believe they are.
- 1:01:22And it's like, you can get them for 70 cents when they're on
- 1:01:25sale, 50 cents, you know, 94 cents at Walmart, stuff like that.
- 1:01:28It's hard to say, Hey, here's a four inch car.
- 1:01:31And it's, it's 80 bucks, you know what I mean?
- 1:01:34Um, that kind of deal.
- 1:01:35So, so I haven't been able to transition into that market.
- 1:01:38That, and if we are talking about model cars that we'd love to have, I
- 1:01:42mentioned this to somebody the other day.
- 1:01:45If I could have any one, one 18 scale car right now, there's
- 1:01:48actually two I would have one is the hunch took Audi 90 ITU car.
- 1:01:53Like I saw walk ins Glenn back, you know, in the eighties when, when they were
- 1:01:57running there and Trans Am with SCCA.
- 1:01:59And I think the other one I would love to have is like a 88, 89 Sauber C9.
- 1:02:03Mercedes LMP car.
- 1:02:05Those are going to be super hard to find.
- 1:02:07I don't even know if, you know, auto art or, you know, Maisto or
- 1:02:10any of those guys make those, but that'd be, that'd be really cool.
- 1:02:14Again, that's, that's a, for me thing, but since we're talking
- 1:02:16about for ourselves, you know, that, that'd be super cool as well.
- 1:02:20So I think I'm going to take advantage of the sock sale.
- 1:02:25Somebody else has to take advantage of the sock sale for you, Tanya.
- 1:02:29This is Christmas time.
- 1:02:32The list is going to be long.
- 1:02:35And then I'm going to have to decide how many socks is an
- 1:02:37appropriate amount of socks.
- 1:02:38She'll be ready by December 2021.
- 1:02:40There's that many socks to choose from is the problem.
- 1:02:43They have a huge selection.
- 1:02:45It's great, isn't it?
- 1:02:46I would definitely have alpha ones.
- 1:02:49I haven't decided which one yet.
- 1:02:51I'd like both.
- 1:02:52My favorites are the, the Mercedes, the Wynn Mercedes, uh, GTD car.
- 1:02:59The ones that I wore at the wedding, those are my favorite by far
- 1:03:02because they really pop underneath like a dark suit or something.
- 1:03:05My second favorite, I call the Wynn socks, my good luck sock.
- 1:03:09My second favorite of the, the Ferrari.
- 1:03:11250 GTO inspired socks.
- 1:03:13Those are fantastic too.
- 1:03:15Yeah.
- 1:03:15See, I'm going to be more of the enjoys the socks as she
- 1:03:19looks over her feet at the TV.
- 1:03:25That is perfectly acceptable.
- 1:03:27But wait, there's more!
