- 0:06Speaker 1: Well, sorry about the delay everyone. As you can tell,
- 0:08Speaker 1: yes and other court cases hitters, this time from the
- 0:12Speaker 1: estate of Trevor Long. He wasn't happy with the way
- 0:16Speaker 1: he was portrayed in our last episode and apparently I
- 0:20Speaker 1: quote touched him inappropriately. Frankly, I don't think I touched
- 0:25Speaker 1: him appropriately enough.
- 0:29Speaker 2: We're back now, which is good news.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Contract and do you know what will be in the
- 0:33Speaker 1: same studio next time. Hopefully things will work out. We'll
- 0:36Speaker 1: get back on track eventually. But me and Trevor best buddies.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Who would have known.
- 0:40Speaker 3: By the way, we're going to be having a lot
- 0:42Speaker 3: of well, I'm going to be having a lot of
- 0:43Speaker 3: fun because we've changed the thing that we're recording with
- 0:45Speaker 3: today and I'm now in control of all the party,
- 0:49Speaker 3: in control of the sound effects. So as a result
- 0:51Speaker 3: of that, you will hear some wonderful effects from yours
- 0:55Speaker 3: truly the EP of the show, which I believe stands
- 0:57Speaker 3: for executive producers of the show.
- 1:01Speaker 1: I would have said, direct penis and not much job.
- 1:04Speaker 1: There's my quote puerile humor leaking into this podcast.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Oh yeah, We'll be running through our latest feedback closer
- 1:11Speaker 3: to the end of the show, so please stay tuned
- 1:13Speaker 3: for that.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Paul's Just so you know, Paul's are totally in control
- 1:16Speaker 1: of the sound effects. I can't do a thing, so
- 1:19Speaker 1: I just you your share back on mate. I don't
- 1:25Speaker 1: want to say, why are you Croatian dancing? Why are
- 1:29Speaker 1: you wearing nothing but some weird kind of pomp pom
- 1:32Speaker 1: white Beanie only used its ceremonies.
- 1:38Speaker 3: Yes, so he can control a little bit of it.
- 1:40Speaker 3: And before we get started, I don't know if you noticed,
- 1:42Speaker 3: but old mate who we spoke to last time with
- 1:45Speaker 3: the gr Corolla sold it. I don't know what it
- 1:47Speaker 3: sold for, but yeah, it's no longer listed, so good.
- 1:51Speaker 1: I'm glad. We should have got a cut from that.
- 1:52Speaker 1: I think, I think so. I think we helped him
- 1:54Speaker 1: out with the sale. He he lowered the price a
- 1:57Speaker 1: little bit. You know what, I've noticed. We're going to
- 1:59Speaker 1: talk about this in our review towards the end, but
- 2:02Speaker 1: the civic type bars are starting to pop up with
- 2:06Speaker 1: quite a few dollars added to the place as people
- 2:08Speaker 1: don't want to wait quote two years now. Yeah.
- 2:12Speaker 3: Well, the funny thing is Honda is one of the
- 2:14Speaker 3: only car companies Mercedes Ben's as well in the country
- 2:17Speaker 3: with fixed prices and the dealers are charging more.
- 2:20Speaker 2: It's like, guys, the whole.
- 2:21Speaker 3: Point of you ripping everyone off with your fixed prices
- 2:24Speaker 3: is you can't judge more.
- 2:25Speaker 2: And they're somehow now charging more for.
- 2:27Speaker 3: The civic tye bar as well, so the dealers will
- 2:30Speaker 3: be dealers.
- 2:30Speaker 1: By the sounds of it, it's kind of pissing me off.
- 2:32Speaker 1: The dealers are doing this too, and I honestly think
- 2:35Speaker 1: there should be a rule against it. I mean, to
- 2:37Speaker 1: buy their own, to have their own allocation, buy a car,
- 2:40Speaker 1: put some k's on its salat as whatever they like.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Now it's just it's gone free.
- 2:45Speaker 3: It's actually not so much an issue for well, it
- 2:48Speaker 3: is an issue for consumers, But I as a brand
- 2:51Speaker 3: would be annoyed because that is a franchise of your
- 2:54Speaker 3: brand that is ripping customers off and giving your brand
- 2:57Speaker 3: a bad name. So it's more that as a brand
- 3:00Speaker 3: protection thing, you car companies should be outraged with this stuff.
- 3:04Speaker 3: But it just seems dealers getting away with it, and
- 3:07Speaker 3: you know that they're dourning money while they can, which
- 3:10Speaker 3: you know, I guess it is their livelihood. They're used
- 3:12Speaker 3: to doing it, and people don't have to buy the
- 3:14Speaker 3: car if they don't want to. But ultimately it is
- 3:17Speaker 3: something I would have thought car companies would be interested
- 3:19Speaker 3: in protecting.
- 3:19Speaker 1: You'd think so. I just feel like this is the
- 3:21Speaker 1: new normal. I don't really think they care too much.
- 3:24Speaker 1: I think the new norm is wait for your car.
- 3:28Speaker 1: You'll be waiting a long time. They know that now.
- 3:30Speaker 1: I think the big surprising thing is we are now
- 3:32Speaker 1: prepared to shell out and wait, yeah, for long periods
- 3:36Speaker 1: of time, and shell out shitloads more than the actual price.
- 3:41Speaker 1: It's frustrating. It's frustrating for a car like the Type R,
- 3:44Speaker 1: which is a limited car and they're stacking on the
- 3:49Speaker 1: dollars for it. I don't know. I just it's hard.
- 3:51Speaker 1: It's shit to watch. That's all.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Yeah, one hundred percent agree. But anyway, we'll talk about
- 3:56Speaker 3: that a little bit later as well.
- 3:58Speaker 1: We should. We should mention there's if things that popped
- 4:00Speaker 1: up this week. One of them. One of them was
- 4:04Speaker 1: the Kupra Travis Scan, which sounds like sounds like a
- 4:08Speaker 1: scan I have for my ovaries. Yeah, but it's a
- 4:14Speaker 1: beautiful car. It's a big, big electric suv. It's hard
- 4:19Speaker 1: to see kind of the proportions of this by the
- 4:22Speaker 1: press photos, but I'm guessing Volkswagen Group. It sort of
- 4:25Speaker 1: seems probably a little bit bigger than the Tigue maybe
- 4:29Speaker 1: the two Egg.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, it's interesting because it's.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Going to be built in China and it'll be a
- 4:35Speaker 3: joint venture between the Volkswagen Group and the local car
- 4:38Speaker 3: brand Jack Jac, with exports to Australia starting in twenty
- 4:43Speaker 3: twenty five.
- 4:45Speaker 2: It is interesting with.
- 4:46Speaker 3: These cars that I don't know that it seems like
- 4:49Speaker 3: they've used Coopra as an outlet for design. You see
- 4:53Speaker 3: some of these cars in person and they actually look
- 4:55Speaker 3: really cool and edgy and fun. Yet beneath the skin
- 4:58Speaker 3: they share a lot of components with Volkswagen Group products.
- 5:01Speaker 3: So it's interesting that they have allowed that to progress there,
- 5:05Speaker 3: and it seems like Volkswagen finally has the idea that,
- 5:08Speaker 3: you know, you can actually get away with being a
- 5:11Speaker 3: bit more adventurous with this stuff.
- 5:13Speaker 1: They're so blatant about all sharing parts. I saw Matt
- 5:16Speaker 1: Watson during the week look under a Lamborghini Hurricane. Possibly
- 5:21Speaker 1: the amount of Audi parts he found under there was
- 5:23Speaker 1: fucking criminal.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:26Speaker 3: Look, I think that you'd have to be an idiot
- 5:28Speaker 3: to think that there weren't so many shared parts there,
- 5:30Speaker 3: But yeah, it is.
- 5:32Speaker 2: It is interesting. The closer you delve into it, the
- 5:34Speaker 2: more obvious it is. How much of the stuff is
- 5:36Speaker 2: actually shipped between a lot of these cars.
- 5:38Speaker 1: What do we think of that? What do we think
- 5:40Speaker 1: of that? Coopra Travis Scan Is it a travesty? Thanks
- 5:44Speaker 1: very much, guys. Yeah, I had to keep my humor
- 5:47Speaker 1: a little less puerile. Fuck face.
- 5:51Speaker 2: No, look, I think it looks good. I think it
- 5:53Speaker 2: looks nice.
- 5:54Speaker 3: The whole made in China thing is a bit strange.
- 5:57Speaker 3: I don't really understand what the benefit of that is.
- 5:59Speaker 3: There must be some monetary gain to be earned from that.
- 6:02Speaker 3: A lot of brands are either moving to the US
- 6:04Speaker 3: to take advantage of a lot of the tax relief there,
- 6:07Speaker 3: or China. It seems of the two sort of easy
- 6:10Speaker 3: options for them when it comes to electric cars.
- 6:12Speaker 1: How do you think they've launched Cooper here in Australia?
- 6:14Speaker 1: Because I remember, is there a dog.
- 6:17Speaker 2: In your studio? I've just noticed it in.
- 6:19Speaker 1: The it's my dog, Taco.
- 6:21Speaker 3: Come on, sorry, I just thought we did this on
- 6:24Speaker 3: a professional basis as opposed to just however you feel
- 6:27Speaker 3: like professional? Have you read our comments? That's true, that's cute.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Maybe you could put a photo of Taco up on Instagram.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Bloody huge. I thought Taco was small.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Holy crap, What sort of dog is it?
- 6:40Speaker 3: There?
- 6:41Speaker 2: You go, hey, very cute? What sort of dog is Taco?
- 6:49Speaker 1: He's a grudle. He's a half poodle, half golden retriever.
- 6:54Speaker 3: All right, we'll put a photo up on socials so
- 6:56Speaker 3: people know what I'm talking about.
- 6:58Speaker 1: I'll put him up, Put him up in the car,
- 7:00Speaker 1: put him up in the have al jolly on, jolly
- 7:03Speaker 1: goody driving along.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Oh'd a bit the last time I do that.
- 7:09Speaker 1: You know, it's actually not too bad. Is the is
- 7:12Speaker 1: the hybrid of that? I will say that it's more
- 7:14Speaker 1: balanced than the other stuff. It really is.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Look that they are improving.
- 7:18Speaker 3: They do have a couple of little bits and pieces,
- 7:20Speaker 3: like their safety systems need a lot of work. They're
- 7:22Speaker 3: just too intrusive. They come up with random messages that
- 7:24Speaker 3: make no sense. The cherry, my god, I remember that
- 7:27Speaker 3: driving that down the freeway. One of my colleagues. It
- 7:31Speaker 3: came up like thirty times telling him to concentrate, even
- 7:34Speaker 3: though he was just looking out the window driving the car.
- 7:37Speaker 3: So it had like a dodgy driver, you know, distraction
- 7:41Speaker 3: warning sensor coming up. So yeah, it is really strange
- 7:44Speaker 3: how they just can't get some of that right.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Every bell and whistle was going off on this thing.
- 7:49Speaker 1: I was telling you before before we started this no
- 7:52Speaker 1: joke like word for word. I've got the photo here,
- 7:54Speaker 1: I'll put it up on our circials. Hey, do we
- 7:58Speaker 1: need to talk about your drive.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Speaking that it was a bizarre message. I wanted to
- 8:08Speaker 2: send you a video.
- 8:10Speaker 3: We ran this on the site because I don't know,
- 8:12Speaker 3: I've just become addicted to watching watching dash cam owners
- 8:15Speaker 3: Australia the Facebook page and we came across this one
- 8:19Speaker 3: video that I just laughed so hard at and I
- 8:21Speaker 3: probably shouldn't have laughed, but it was a little bit funny.
- 8:24Speaker 3: A bloke who was driving a previous Gen Ranger was
- 8:30Speaker 3: cut off by a guy in a Jaguar Suv and
- 8:33Speaker 3: look the juries out whether he was cut off, It
- 8:36Speaker 3: looked like he sped up as the guy was trying
- 8:37Speaker 3: to change lanes to get out of an ending lane
- 8:40Speaker 3: and anyway, once the car is well and truly in
- 8:42Speaker 3: the lane, the Ranger driver tries to be a hero
- 8:45Speaker 3: and starts tailgating really closely. He then bizarrely drops back
- 8:50Speaker 3: and accelerates to scare the Jaguar driver and for some
- 8:54Speaker 3: reason very gently hits the back of the Jaguar and
- 8:59Speaker 3: then something funny happens. So I'm just going to get
- 9:02Speaker 3: you to play the video now and watch that for
- 9:05Speaker 3: the first time.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Okay. So, so it's the back of its dash camp
- 9:09Speaker 1: footage of the back of a jag There comes a
- 9:11Speaker 1: really shitty old Ranger, white range at the back. Oh god,
- 9:15Speaker 1: Oh no, he's going close. Ah did he did he
- 9:19Speaker 1: hit him the first time?
- 9:20Speaker 2: No, it came close. Okay, he comes back for seconds.
- 9:26Speaker 1: He's going back. Okay, now he's getting some speed on
- 9:29Speaker 1: that corner. Oh. Basically, for those of you I've just
- 9:37Speaker 1: got off.
- 9:37Speaker 3: Yeah, for those of you who haven't seen it, it
- 9:39Speaker 3: is the gentlest tap in the world, and for some reason,
- 9:42Speaker 3: his air.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Bags off and he cuts see.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Yeah, so I think it's well deserved.
- 9:49Speaker 3: Any like, someone that does that is just an idiot,
- 9:52Speaker 3: Like if someone cuts you off in traffic. Yeah, I
- 9:54Speaker 3: get that it's frustrating, but just don't be an idiot
- 9:57Speaker 3: and shit like this won't happen. So yeah, head to
- 10:00Speaker 3: our socials to see that video. And if we're not
- 10:02Speaker 3: allowed to upload it. Head to car expert dot com
- 10:05Speaker 3: dot where we've got it down the bottom. They're embedded
- 10:07Speaker 3: in a story.
- 10:08Speaker 1: People are mentally ill when you see that shit, People
- 10:11Speaker 1: are mentally ill.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, how do you explain that to your
- 10:13Speaker 2: insurance company? Well, what were you doing? Oh?
- 10:15Speaker 3: I was tailgating someone and then I decided to ram
- 10:18Speaker 3: them for no reason and then my airbags went off.
- 10:21Speaker 3: It's like, that is thousands of dollars worth of damage.
- 10:23Speaker 3: He would have been deafened by the explosion. Inside the cabin,
- 10:26Speaker 3: there would have been shit everywhere in there.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Just he's luck you didn't run off the road or
- 10:31Speaker 1: like he's exactly or hit someone else who well, well, yeah,
- 10:33Speaker 1: he's in the middle of the in the middle lane.
- 10:35Speaker 1: There was a it's done adelaide and that went past
- 10:39Speaker 1: him as well. He could have kept that stunning car anyway,
- 10:42Speaker 1: lesson learnt there.
- 10:43Speaker 3: So I think maybe what we'll do every episode, let's
- 10:45Speaker 3: let's find.
- 10:46Speaker 2: One of these videos that either you or I haven't
- 10:48Speaker 2: seen and we can.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Have a little head of the week.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Yeah. I like that. Well, then you and I are
- 10:54Speaker 2: excluded from that award obviously.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Well, we've we're pretty much nominated every week we'll say
- 11:00Speaker 1: though that we'll get a lovely intro made up and
- 11:04Speaker 1: maybe we can add that to Paul's button bar.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:08Speaker 3: At the moment, my button bar has ballpark, which is
- 11:10Speaker 3: this noise. It has drums, which is this noise. It
- 11:16Speaker 3: has dramatic piano, which is this noise.
- 11:20Speaker 1: That someone is making love to himself. And finally it.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Does intro outro, which is this noise.
- 11:27Speaker 3: So yeah, I'm looking to expanding that selection, so that'd
- 11:32Speaker 3: be fun.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Yeah, So other thing, can I tell you what's on
- 11:36Speaker 1: my button bar right now? Going? Okay, don't play a
- 11:39Speaker 1: little game, yeah, go on, okay, this is this will
- 11:41Speaker 1: be a game of guests.
- 11:42Speaker 2: The rev Okay, cool, all right, let's do it.
- 11:44Speaker 1: All right, you're listening, listen, here we go and you'll
- 11:55Speaker 1: get it. You'll get a big revenue. Oct came on.
- 12:06Speaker 1: So say, okay, let me guess the engine first. Is
- 12:11Speaker 1: it ten cylinders? Yes?
- 12:13Speaker 2: Okay, so it's a V ten. It's either in the
- 12:15Speaker 2: right or the Hurrican.
- 12:16Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, it is a bit hard to tell between
- 12:19Speaker 3: the two, but it sounds a little duller than a horrcan,
- 12:22Speaker 3: So I reckon maybe the right, Oh, it's the Horrican.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Hmm, that's annoying. What sort just the normal one or
- 12:29Speaker 2: the Yeah?
- 12:31Speaker 1: All right, are you ready? Here's a clue. This is
- 12:35Speaker 1: a bit off because it's historical footage. Go on, here
- 12:39Speaker 1: we go, there's a good clue.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Go again.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, So I'm going to preference this by saying
- 13:02Speaker 1: I took two different revs of this car, different different
- 13:06Speaker 1: sound effects, because the first one, even though look genuine
- 13:10Speaker 1: what I was recording, it felt like it been modified.
- 13:13Speaker 3: Okay, so I think it sounds like a V eight.
- 13:17Speaker 3: It sounds supercharged, so I'm thinking, can I hear that
- 13:22Speaker 3: one more time?
- 13:31Speaker 2: It's a manual?
- 13:35Speaker 3: It sounds it sounds like an LSA, which was the
- 13:39Speaker 3: engine they used in the HSV range.
- 13:43Speaker 2: That last one doesn't though.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Okay, see that like here the blow that kisses me
- 13:52Speaker 1: off because as I said, this was historical footage and
- 13:55Speaker 1: that doesn't sound historical.
- 13:57Speaker 2: So yeah, that's the problem.
- 14:05Speaker 3: It's hard to hear that particular. The first recording sounded
- 14:08Speaker 3: very clear. This one is It breaks up a little bit,
- 14:11Speaker 3: so I can't tell. It definitely sounds like a V eight,
- 14:15Speaker 3: and I'm thinking it's a Holden Slash HSV VAS of
- 14:19Speaker 3: some sort.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Half there Taranto SLR five thousand.
- 14:23Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, that definitely sounded modified that that had a
- 14:26Speaker 3: bit of meat to it.
- 14:27Speaker 2: It's definitely not supercharged.
- 14:29Speaker 1: So last tie. This one's shit. It's not about the
- 14:37Speaker 1: music in the background. Whoever put this one together is
- 14:39Speaker 1: obviously a massive flog driving a flog car.
- 14:53Speaker 2: So it sounds like a six cylinder. You know this, well, yeah,
- 14:56Speaker 2: probably it.
- 14:57Speaker 3: Sounds like a six cylinder and I reckon it could
- 15:01Speaker 3: be a Ranger raptor.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, baby's.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Literally the promo video and you know it back to front.
- 15:08Speaker 2: I think it's safe to say that I naked to it.
- 15:11Speaker 2: It's safe to say that I.
- 15:14Speaker 3: Knock that one out of the ballpark anyway, something fun
- 15:21Speaker 3: I came across, Well, not fun if you're in this category.
- 15:25Speaker 3: But Queensland has just enacted what they claim the most
- 15:29Speaker 3: severe hoon laws in the country, and they're wide sweeping
- 15:34Speaker 3: because not only do they affect hoons, they also affect spectators.
- 15:39Speaker 3: And basically what they've done is they've now made it
- 15:41Speaker 3: an offence to be a spectator at ahoon event, so
- 15:44Speaker 3: you don't even.
- 15:45Speaker 2: Have to be involved.
- 15:45Speaker 3: You can literally have parked on the side of the
- 15:47Speaker 3: road seen it happening and gone, oh, it's going on
- 15:49Speaker 3: over there. It's an offense, so is participating recording And
- 15:54Speaker 3: get this carrying spare tires.
- 15:58Speaker 1: That's odd, that is And by the way, from a
- 16:01Speaker 1: recent trip I took to Queensland, our sunshine state, a
- 16:05Speaker 1: lot of people carry tires up there.
- 16:07Speaker 3: Yes, look at this is the thing, right, I get
- 16:09Speaker 3: that you've got you've got like this is a bad thing, right,
- 16:15Speaker 3: And some of the footage that I've seen is bad
- 16:17Speaker 3: because they're literally on the freeway, they stop the freeway,
- 16:19Speaker 3: they're doing dumb shit and it's not great. But what
- 16:22Speaker 3: they're trying to do here is really just put a
- 16:25Speaker 3: bit of bit of mayo on this. And in the
- 16:28Speaker 3: press release they said, according to the Queensland Roads Safety Strategy,
- 16:32Speaker 3: the economic cost of road trauma in twenty twenty was
- 16:35Speaker 3: six billion dollars and was the cause of fifteen percent
- 16:38Speaker 3: of hospital admissions. Okay, what percentage of that was hoon drivers?
- 16:42Speaker 3: Probably not, meaning I would have thought. So they're putting
- 16:46Speaker 3: a lot of emphasis on this. And the bigger issue
- 16:47Speaker 3: is that, Okay, obviously they're not going to pull you
- 16:50Speaker 3: over if you have a spare tire in your boot
- 16:51Speaker 3: and you're just a normal person, and send you to
- 16:53Speaker 3: jail because it's like up to one year jail or
- 16:55Speaker 3: a six thousand dollar fine.
- 16:57Speaker 2: I get that, but.
- 16:58Speaker 1: It gives them them. Do you imagine didn't go into
- 17:00Speaker 1: prison or what did you do? Oh, bloody killed a
- 17:04Speaker 1: few people? What did you do? I did donut in
- 17:07Speaker 1: the mac.
- 17:09Speaker 3: But it's like the fact that they're allowed to do
- 17:11Speaker 3: it means you're going to have some police officers who
- 17:13Speaker 3: will just use that as a reason to send someone
- 17:16Speaker 3: to jail potentially. So I just wonder who comes up
- 17:19Speaker 3: with these laws. The only thing that works against this
- 17:22Speaker 3: type of behavior is visible policing. Driving around in unmarked
- 17:26Speaker 3: police cars doesn't help anyone you're trying to catch these people.
- 17:29Speaker 2: You are better just sending the helicopter down there.
- 17:32Speaker 3: Closing off the road with marked police cars, and then
- 17:35Speaker 3: just running through everyone. Because they have a huge issue
- 17:38Speaker 3: up there at the moment with people driving like idiots,
- 17:40Speaker 3: and I just don't think they're really paying much attention
- 17:44Speaker 3: to it these offenses.
- 17:45Speaker 2: I just don't think they're going to change anything, to
- 17:47Speaker 2: be honest.
- 17:47Speaker 1: I love how they like they've put this in a
- 17:50Speaker 1: monetary perspective as well. Like, the first thing you said
- 17:53Speaker 1: was how much it costs? How much the hone's costing?
- 17:56Speaker 1: Do you know how much it costs to send someone
- 17:58Speaker 1: to prison? Expensive? Like this country just doesn't like people
- 18:04Speaker 1: driving fast. I say that, Yeah, it's a wild one.
- 18:07Speaker 3: I just this is a very very very small handful
- 18:11Speaker 3: of people, and the amount of effort they're putting into
- 18:14Speaker 3: this is just unbelievable.
- 18:16Speaker 2: If they put this much effort into.
- 18:18Speaker 3: Just hiring more police officers to just be allocated to
- 18:22Speaker 3: this particular task, I suspect it would be a whole
- 18:24Speaker 3: lot more beneficial than having to change.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Laws in parliament and waste all this time.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Also, what constitutes a whon? Is it someone breaking the
- 18:32Speaker 1: speed limit? Is it someone doing donuts on a If it's.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Anything like Victoria, it's at their discretion. So you could
- 18:39Speaker 2: lose traction off.
- 18:40Speaker 3: The lights and it would be a hoon offence and
- 18:43Speaker 3: they could impound your car. So it just depends on
- 18:46Speaker 3: what kind of police officer you find on the day.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Did you get a little bit excited over the sneak
- 18:51Speaker 1: peak of the new Tesla?
- 18:53Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, maybe the little peep show.
- 18:58Speaker 3: So if you don't know what we're talking about, images
- 19:00Speaker 3: leaked online of what appears to be the facelift for
- 19:03Speaker 3: the Tesla Model three and eventually the Tesla Model Why.
- 19:08Speaker 3: What's been happening at the moment in the States is
- 19:10Speaker 3: Tesla is constantly dropping the prices of their cars to
- 19:13Speaker 3: help increase the amount of sales that they get. And
- 19:16Speaker 3: it's because they always set targets for deliveries and they
- 19:20Speaker 3: come very close to missing them, and then they have
- 19:22Speaker 3: to gut the price to sell more cars. That annoys
- 19:25Speaker 3: owners because you instantly lose money on your car, and
- 19:30Speaker 3: it also just affects appreciation and it's just a complex
- 19:33Speaker 3: issue that isn't helped by what they're doing. One of
- 19:36Speaker 3: the things they said very early on is they won't
- 19:38Speaker 3: do facelifts and design changes like other manufacturers, and the
- 19:42Speaker 3: fact that they are doing that now, the fact that
- 19:44Speaker 3: they are gutting their prices constantly, means that they really
- 19:47Speaker 3: are just becoming another car brand that is doing what
- 19:50Speaker 3: other car brands do.
- 19:51Speaker 2: So I do like the look of it.
- 19:53Speaker 3: It looks to me like they're going to have a
- 19:56Speaker 3: dash cluster as well, which I'm excited for because they
- 19:59Speaker 3: need it separately.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Yeah, it's sort of relying on that really minimalist, stripped
- 20:04Speaker 1: back look with the one screen in the middle that
- 20:06Speaker 1: doesn't go into landscape like a byd At. Yeah.
- 20:11Speaker 3: I mean they're obviously not aiming to build dreams, but wow, yeah,
- 20:15Speaker 3: someone someone has someone is Yeah, so I think that
- 20:19Speaker 3: they need to really work on that and I'm hoping
- 20:21Speaker 3: it does have a display there just what matches the
- 20:23Speaker 3: model less or at least that it's an option or something.
- 20:25Speaker 2: I don't know, but yeah, look, I'm excited for it.
- 20:28Speaker 3: It's nice to see just a little bit of change there,
- 20:31Speaker 3: and it just means these cars are getting cheaper in
- 20:33Speaker 3: Australia too.
- 20:34Speaker 1: It needed to happen, like there's hindsight. It's a beautiful
- 20:37Speaker 1: thing because like if they went back on their word saying, oh,
- 20:40Speaker 1: we'll never change the design, you know, do once every
- 20:43Speaker 1: ten years or whatever, this needed to happen. Clearly it
- 20:46Speaker 1: needed to happen. You cannot live with one design. It
- 20:49Speaker 1: just becomes boring.
- 20:50Speaker 2: And well that's what people are creatures of habits.
- 20:54Speaker 3: So if you have a car that looks the same
- 20:56Speaker 3: as one that's five years old, why would you upgrade it?
- 20:58Speaker 3: You would have no reason to spend money. And whereas
- 21:00Speaker 3: if you change the design all of a sudden, Tesla
- 21:02Speaker 3: has a reason for someone to go and drop money
- 21:05Speaker 3: on this car again, So it's just plain as day
- 21:08Speaker 3: why you would do this. So yeah, so it'll be
- 21:12Speaker 3: interesting to see how it goes, and it'll mean that
- 21:14Speaker 3: their cars will be wildly different in terms of the design.
- 21:17Speaker 2: When the cyber truck comes out.
- 21:18Speaker 3: I mean, that thing just looks, in my opinion, just
- 21:21Speaker 3: bizarre and not very functional, and it looks totally different
- 21:25Speaker 3: than the rest of their cars. And I just don't
- 21:26Speaker 3: know how that's meant to make any sense. It might
- 21:28Speaker 3: make sense, we'll see, but yeah, it's a bit of
- 21:31Speaker 3: an odd one.
- 21:32Speaker 1: It is an on one. I wonder if that'll actually
- 21:34Speaker 1: come into few fruition, because that's that was promised what
- 21:37Speaker 1: last year, really like.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Two years ago.
- 21:39Speaker 3: They keep delaying it constantly, And while they're delaying it,
- 21:43Speaker 3: other brands are starting to sell things like they're selling
- 21:46Speaker 3: f I fifties in record numbers, the Lightning, they're selling
- 21:48Speaker 3: stacks of Hummer Evs, Rivians, and all of those vehicles
- 21:51Speaker 3: look significantly better and more useful in my opinion. So
- 21:54Speaker 3: I know some people like the design of it, but
- 21:57Speaker 3: I just think it'll just yeah, it's just not not great.
- 22:01Speaker 1: But I think by the time they get to the party,
- 22:03Speaker 1: I just I don't think it'll be that spectacular as
- 22:06Speaker 1: it once was. Like the shop values well and truly
- 22:09Speaker 1: worn off. I just can't see it happening. Ye should
- 22:12Speaker 1: we talk type R Yeah, let's do it now. I
- 22:15Speaker 1: want I want to bring to the table. Is this
- 22:18Speaker 1: the most? Is there too much over hype with this car? Personally?
- 22:22Speaker 1: I was never a type ARE guy. I was never
- 22:26Speaker 1: I was never a Honda guy in this sort of scene.
- 22:28Speaker 1: I was. I never understood the red seats and the
- 22:33Speaker 1: whole look. I mean, the last generation looked like it
- 22:35Speaker 1: was built by a twelve year old kid with lego.
- 22:38Speaker 1: I never really got it. Having said that, I was
- 22:40Speaker 1: never off the Japanese street car, saying I was always
- 22:43Speaker 1: a big fan of Subaru's. I had a two sixties
- 22:44Speaker 1: Z you know, I love it. But I could never
- 22:46Speaker 1: understand the.
- 22:48Speaker 3: You mentioned that you had a whole bunch of sdis
- 22:50Speaker 3: when you were younger. Right, Oh, no, that was that
- 22:54Speaker 3: was not a car thing though, that was a that
- 22:56Speaker 3: was a different thing. Yep, thanks, I'll be here all week. No,
- 23:03Speaker 3: but I know what you mean.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Honda had a very select type of audience for their cars.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Yeah, and I'm surprised that that this car doesn't come
- 23:12Speaker 1: with like a flat cap and of vape. But I
- 23:15Speaker 1: drove it, and I love it. I fucking love it
- 23:18Speaker 1: and everything. The actual driving experience of this car made
- 23:24Speaker 1: me overlook everything I didn't like. That's how great it was,
- 23:27Speaker 1: everything from the red seats and the red carpets and
- 23:31Speaker 1: the wing at the back. In fact, this whole car,
- 23:35Speaker 1: I think it's toned down. Well, I think it looks
- 23:37Speaker 1: really good and I think it's the best looking one
- 23:41Speaker 1: that they've put out in years. But the yeah, let's talk.
- 23:44Speaker 2: About the stats, because well, just on the design before
- 23:47Speaker 2: we run into the stats. So I totally agree.
- 23:48Speaker 3: I thought the last one was a bit over the
- 23:49Speaker 3: top and it would exclude a lot of people who
- 23:52Speaker 3: didn't want something ricey and over the top. Whereas this
- 23:56Speaker 3: new one looks aggressive because it sits wide, it's got
- 23:59Speaker 3: a great stance, but it's not over the top. And
- 24:02Speaker 3: even if you wanted to show off a little bit,
- 24:04Speaker 3: people know what it is. But if you didn't want
- 24:06Speaker 3: anyone to really care that much, it also fits that
- 24:08Speaker 3: bill too, like it is it is quite impressive from
- 24:11Speaker 3: that regard.
- 24:11Speaker 1: Before the hype started flowing in, the reviews started coming
- 24:15Speaker 1: in from overseas and stuff. I thought. On paper, I
- 24:18Speaker 1: mean you look at say the zero to one hundred
- 24:22Speaker 1: time on this claimed I think is for five point
- 24:24Speaker 1: four seconds, two hundred and thirty five killer. What's four
- 24:27Speaker 1: hundred and twenty meters of talk? Right, So you compare
- 24:30Speaker 1: that to the Golfer, which is similar figures zero to
- 24:33Speaker 1: one hundred and four point eight. So even the bloody
- 24:37Speaker 1: I thirty and sedan, I mean that that had a
- 24:41Speaker 1: zero to one hundred times of like five point one.
- 24:43Speaker 1: It had a better time. But so on paper, I
- 24:46Speaker 1: was like, well, this is such a good case of numbers.
- 24:49Speaker 1: Don't sell cars.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Yeah, one hundred percent. And that's the thing. Like the
- 24:53Speaker 2: Golfer on paper is technically a better vehicle. It's got
- 24:56Speaker 2: all will drive, it's.
- 24:58Speaker 3: Quicker in a straight line, all that sort of stuff,
- 25:00Speaker 3: but it is just so boring in comparison to a
- 25:03Speaker 3: type the type as manual only it is incredibly quick
- 25:08Speaker 3: point to point, It handles unbelievably well. You know, there
- 25:13Speaker 3: is very little to not like about it, and I
- 25:16Speaker 3: think that they've achieved a great thing with this car,
- 25:18Speaker 3: and it will be a collectors item down the track.
- 25:21Speaker 3: And actually if you even if you compare it to
- 25:23Speaker 3: the GR Corolla, like the GR Corolla, even being all
- 25:25Speaker 3: wheel drives, still isn't as tuned or as focused as
- 25:29Speaker 3: this is. This just feels on another level altogether, and
- 25:32Speaker 3: I think it has become the king of the hot hatches,
- 25:34Speaker 3: like it is quite sort of a huge achievement. And
- 25:38Speaker 3: actually just published that they got a record lap time
- 25:42Speaker 3: atnerburg Ring. There is an attatched to this, so they
- 25:46Speaker 3: basically dethroned the Reno McGahan trophy are that had the
- 25:51Speaker 3: previous record, and a look a bit complicated because they
- 25:54Speaker 3: changed the rules for how long the lap needs to
- 25:56Speaker 3: be for the record and this was under the new
- 25:59Speaker 3: rules and it looks a little bit strange there in
- 26:01Speaker 3: terms of the numbers, but it is a faster time.
- 26:04Speaker 3: But the controversy controversy, that's an Italian terming some of this.
- 26:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I add some source on that.
- 26:16Speaker 3: So the controversy is that apparently there is a claim
- 26:20Speaker 3: that the time has been cheated.
- 26:22Speaker 2: And the background to this is there's a bloke called.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Mesha Charudin who's basically a YouTuber who works during the
- 26:33Speaker 3: on season at the nurburg Ring. He's driven a lot
- 26:35Speaker 3: of cars around the Nourburgering. I've met him before, really
- 26:37Speaker 3: nice guy and knows his stuff. He's basically come out
- 26:40Speaker 3: and said that the car.
- 26:42Speaker 2: That was used for the official lap time wasn't a
- 26:44Speaker 2: stock car. And what he's done is he's.
- 26:47Speaker 3: Referenced two bits of footage, one from another publication's lap
- 26:51Speaker 3: time of that car and then one from an autobarn test.
- 26:56Speaker 3: What he's done is referenced two spots in fifth gear
- 26:59Speaker 3: when the car changing gears, and you can tell that
- 27:03Speaker 3: with the test car that was used at the Nurburgring,
- 27:06Speaker 3: it produces more boost and is traveling faster at the
- 27:09Speaker 3: same rpm that the other two cars are, which leads
- 27:12Speaker 3: him to believe that that car has either been tuned
- 27:15Speaker 3: or had some different type of fuel used that's given
- 27:17Speaker 3: at that extra performance. So Honda hasn't responded to this
- 27:21Speaker 3: yet at the time that we're recording this, but I'll
- 27:23Speaker 3: be interested to see what they say, because according to Honda,
- 27:25Speaker 3: the car was stock outside of optional tires that you
- 27:28Speaker 3: can get as part of a package with the car.
- 27:30Speaker 2: So, yeah, what do you reckon about this. Do you
- 27:34Speaker 2: think it was a controversy?
- 27:35Speaker 1: Well, yeah, I mean, you can't claim something something. There's
- 27:39Speaker 1: a lot of prestige around something like this, around a
- 27:42Speaker 1: claim like this, and I don't think you can, certainly
- 27:44Speaker 1: if it's untrue. But there's got to be some sort
- 27:46Speaker 1: of regulations, like if they've tuned the car differently, or
- 27:50Speaker 1: you know, maybe there's a loophole with the fuel perhaps.
- 27:54Speaker 1: I just would find it weird that they've cheated this
- 27:58Speaker 1: system and then publicized it.
- 28:01Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 28:02Speaker 3: Well that's my thing as well, like why would you
- 28:04Speaker 3: go hard on publicizing.
- 28:06Speaker 2: It if you did cheat? So it just it makes
- 28:09Speaker 2: me wonder what's going on.
- 28:10Speaker 3: And I'm really keen to see what the outcome of
- 28:12Speaker 3: this is because I haven't paid enough attention to the
- 28:15Speaker 3: nuances here, but there certainly is a couple of sort
- 28:18Speaker 3: of question marks over this stuff.
- 28:20Speaker 2: And I don't know why they would need to cheat.
- 28:22Speaker 2: It is an incredibly accomplished car. You're really not achieving
- 28:26Speaker 2: anything by cheating.
- 28:27Speaker 3: So yeah, I'll be keen to see how it pans
- 28:29Speaker 3: out for them and what the response is.
- 28:31Speaker 2: And we will follow this up once we do. Hear
- 28:33Speaker 2: back from Honda and see what the outcome of it
- 28:35Speaker 2: all is just.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Under seventy three grand. I know, there's starting money, isn't it. Yeah,
- 28:40Speaker 1: it's a lot. It is a lot. And yeah, that
- 28:43Speaker 1: was kind of my thought. I was because I thought
- 28:45Speaker 1: to myself, seventy three grand. But they're advertising. I mean,
- 28:49Speaker 1: that's a two year wait if you get it for that,
- 28:51Speaker 1: or I could get it now for there's actually one,
- 28:54Speaker 1: a reasonable one that's on car sales at the moment
- 28:57Speaker 1: for about seventy six. Yeah, I mean if if you're
- 29:01Speaker 1: not prepared to wait, you can get one for just
- 29:03Speaker 1: a few grand more, which I thought was pretty good.
- 29:05Speaker 1: A lot of dealers which pissed me right off of
- 29:08Speaker 1: selling them from a round about seventy nine to early eighties.
- 29:11Speaker 1: I think, look stock as it is, it's an excellent car.
- 29:14Speaker 1: It'd been a while since i'd driven a stick shift,
- 29:17Speaker 1: and given this is one of the greatest I've ever driven,
- 29:21Speaker 1: I'd say it's especially in the last couple of years.
- 29:24Speaker 1: I mean, it's God, it's good, Like the throws are good,
- 29:27Speaker 1: the way it handles, it's so intuitive. It's just it
- 29:31Speaker 1: fucking made me feel so great. I have to say,
- 29:33Speaker 1: like you're going around a corner and the limited slip
- 29:36Speaker 1: diff just is so in tune with this whole car.
- 29:39Speaker 1: It's such an absolute joy. And whether it's numbers wise,
- 29:42Speaker 1: whether it's fast or not, I don't care anymore like
- 29:46Speaker 1: you don't care. It's just it's so well put together.
- 29:49Speaker 1: And I would buy this. I would want one hundred
- 29:51Speaker 1: percent buy this from someone. And this is someone who
- 29:54Speaker 1: never understood the car, never really got the red seats,
- 29:57Speaker 1: like the fuck on the outside looking and you look
- 30:00Speaker 1: at those red seeds because the back ones are black.
- 30:02Speaker 1: It looks like some boy racer kids just gone down
- 30:05Speaker 1: to the border and bought a couple of cheap Ricardos
- 30:09Speaker 1: on sale. But yeah, it's I mean that Alcantara steering wheel,
- 30:14Speaker 1: the way the seeds hug you in the driving position.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Everything is just excellent in this car. Excellent and made
- 30:22Speaker 1: me overlook everything I didn't like I thought. I mean, look,
- 30:24Speaker 1: I could nitpick, you could look at the tech on
- 30:27Speaker 1: it and go.
- 30:28Speaker 2: I think it needs more sound.
- 30:30Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, the exhaust sound could do with an improvement.
- 30:32Speaker 3: Inside the cabinet's okay, but outside it just sounds a
- 30:36Speaker 3: bit muted.
- 30:36Speaker 2: And I found the same with the gr Corolla.
- 30:38Speaker 3: It just needed a bit more, but this is all
- 30:40Speaker 3: stuff that you can go and change, like you can
- 30:42Speaker 3: go get an exhaust fairly quickly.
- 30:45Speaker 1: What was your take on the tech in this, because look,
- 30:47Speaker 1: I think the race tech in it aside good, but
- 30:51Speaker 1: I think a lot of people are doing that now.
- 30:53Speaker 1: I don't think that's that special anymore. I mean the
- 30:55Speaker 1: logging system I think is really cool. There's a few
- 30:59Speaker 1: cars out there that are doing that well these days.
- 31:01Speaker 1: But I thought the tech in it was a little bit.
- 31:05Speaker 1: It was good, but it wasn't seventy three thousand dollars good.
- 31:08Speaker 1: I mean, it's not a better camera system on it.
- 31:12Speaker 2: Yeah it's not. It's got no three to sixty camera.
- 31:14Speaker 3: It's not a quantum leap over a standard civic in
- 31:17Speaker 3: terms of the stuff that you're getting with it. But yeah, look,
- 31:21Speaker 3: I think it does what it says on the box
- 31:23Speaker 3: really well. I'd be more disappointed if it had all
- 31:25Speaker 3: the tech and just wasn't really all that fun to drive.
- 31:27Speaker 3: I think it sort of meets that brief. It is
- 31:29Speaker 3: pretty firm, so obviously you know you're.
- 31:32Speaker 2: Expecting that, but when you go to that plus R mode,
- 31:35Speaker 2: it's like they just take the suspension out and the
- 31:37Speaker 2: wheels are directly connected to the body. It is so firm,
- 31:41Speaker 2: it's just the next level. Yeah, if you're going to
- 31:43Speaker 2: be on a track with it, it really is quite
- 31:45Speaker 2: a composed beast.
- 31:46Speaker 3: So yeah, I'm a huge fan of it. And yeah,
- 31:49Speaker 3: had off to anyone that bought one and all has
- 31:52Speaker 3: an allocation for one and isn't getting ripped off by
- 31:55Speaker 3: a dealer.
- 31:56Speaker 1: You know, you do notice a difference between Like far
- 31:59Speaker 1: too often you look at a drive mode and from
- 32:04Speaker 1: sport to NAL drive plus R mode, you know whatever,
- 32:08Speaker 1: that that little jump is sometimes minimal and could be disappointing.
- 32:12Speaker 1: This is a proper jump in all modes from comfort
- 32:16Speaker 1: to sport to plus.
- 32:19Speaker 3: Yeah, you do notice the difference, and that's what I
- 32:21Speaker 3: love because it is very defined. There's no sort of
- 32:23Speaker 3: faffing about with it. So yeah, I love it.
- 32:26Speaker 2: I think it's I think.
- 32:27Speaker 3: It's really cool and yeah, excited to see what the
- 32:29Speaker 3: outcome is of this, this Neurburgreen lap record thing. Just
- 32:34Speaker 3: getting to the bottom of that. I think we'll be
- 32:36Speaker 3: good too. A bit of controversy, never heard anyone.
- 32:39Speaker 1: Yeah, one hundred of released what I think is a
- 32:42Speaker 1: new classic. I mean it's always been there, but it's
- 32:44Speaker 1: such a good jump. Yeah, we should rap, We should rap?
- 32:48Speaker 1: How do we wrap? Oh? Hey, do you want to
- 32:50Speaker 1: hear some great news? Yes, before we go into some
- 32:54Speaker 1: before we go into some lovely comments. We are I
- 32:58Speaker 1: think we've got some merch coming.

- 34:32Speaker 3: it's come from Gone a Bit too Far question Mark
- 34:36Speaker 3: question Mark question Mark. They've got a sticky key there
- 34:39Speaker 3: they need to look at. They say, Paul, you have
- 34:42Speaker 3: a brand to protect and you're not doing yourself any favors.
- 34:47Speaker 3: The attempted humor is quite pathetic. Couldn't agree more with
- 34:51Speaker 3: third rate humor.
- 34:52Speaker 1: Yeah, just on that. I don't know what he's talking about.
- 35:00Speaker 2: On the opposite end of the scale was.

- 35:25Speaker 2: And we will not we will not mention.
- 35:28Speaker 3: The other shows that drive cars and come up with
- 35:33Speaker 3: that stuff, so we will not mention that or people
- 35:36Speaker 3: that sue people.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Very commercialized platform.
- 35:40Speaker 3: Yes, so thank you for those two bits of feedback.

- 37:22Speaker 3: Yeah, it's not the best thing in the world to
- 37:24Speaker 3: see out of. Is that a pain in the ass, Yes, yes.
- 37:27Speaker 1: Apart from driving it getting out of it.
- 37:30Speaker 3: Yeah, getting out of it, as as I progress in
- 37:32Speaker 3: age was tricky. So I'm glad I don't do that anymore.

- 37:56Speaker 1: Is that Okay?
- 38:05Speaker 3: He's gone off the reservation, hasn't he? That rocket exploding
- 38:08Speaker 3: wasn't great.
- 38:09Speaker 1: He's learning experience, as he likes to call it.
- 38:11Speaker 2: Yeah, that's it, just a very very expensive one.
- 38:14Speaker 1: What that rocket was for? You know what I mean?
- 38:16Speaker 1: You kind of look at it and go, why why
- 38:18Speaker 1: did you do that? Why?
- 38:20Speaker 2: I think they're actually testing the launch pad from memory
- 38:22Speaker 2: to make sure it would stay alive because it was
- 38:25Speaker 2: so powerful. I think I actually genuinely.
- 38:28Speaker 1: Okay, Now, anyone questioning Paul's background or a reputation of
- 38:33Speaker 1: being an engineer, I'm pretty sure he just tarnished his
- 38:36Speaker 1: own I had nothing to do with that.
- 38:38Speaker 3: Yeah, if you do follow SpaceX and a fan of
- 38:43Speaker 3: rockets and stuff, send us a d M or an
