- 0:03Speaker 1: You know, Blutleg Cavs Show special guests, one of the
- 0:06Speaker 1: greatest of all time.
- 0:08Speaker 2: In fact, the guy who the reason why.
- 0:10Speaker 1: We use the word ghats is because of this guy.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Just dropped a new record that is insane too, man Ello,
- 0:15Speaker 1: cool Jay, thank you for your time, brother.
- 0:17Speaker 3: Bootleg cav what's up, Betty? Happy to be in man, Yo.
- 0:20Speaker 1: You're the first rapper in my entire life that I
- 0:23Speaker 1: ever met. I was fourteen in Arizona at a jewelry store.
- 0:29Speaker 1: I had a triple Excel aver X jacket on Indiana
- 0:32Speaker 1: Pacers Jermaine O'Neil Jersey, and I got a picture with
- 0:35Speaker 1: you at a jewelry store in Arizona and it was
- 0:38Speaker 1: like the best moment of my life up until you know,
- 0:41Speaker 1: fourteen years old.
- 0:42Speaker 3: You know, so, yeah, that's crazy.
- 0:44Speaker 4: That's crazy, man. Well, you know it's funny that life
- 0:46Speaker 4: comes full circle, right for sure. Man in the face
- 0:50Speaker 4: with a pile something. You know, Hey, at least it
- 0:54Speaker 4: worked out good vibes.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Hey, this new record is crazy, and I like it because,
- 0:58Speaker 1: you know, I feel like this is when I've heard
- 1:02Speaker 1: a new LU record was coming.
- 1:03Speaker 2: I was like, okay, the probably said, you know something
- 1:05Speaker 2: for the ladies.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Now you came with some real hip hop shit like
- 1:08Speaker 1: kicking off this this whole rollout. Man, explain to me
- 1:12Speaker 1: just why you're going this direction right away? Obviously you're
- 1:14Speaker 1: one of the greatest of all time. The beat is
- 1:17Speaker 1: so crazy, it's so it's such a boomback beat. You
- 1:20Speaker 1: got Ross and Fat Joe talking greasy on there, like like,
- 1:23Speaker 1: why why are you coming this way right now?
- 1:26Speaker 3: Yo?
- 1:26Speaker 4: I was inspired by you know what I'm saying, like
- 1:28Speaker 4: inspired by the vibe, like the whole idea, like listen,
- 1:31Speaker 4: if you want to survive in this world. It's like,
- 1:34Speaker 4: first of all, it all started like really just kind
- 1:37Speaker 4: of during the pandemic.
- 1:39Speaker 3: I ran around with a mask on and you know,
- 1:42Speaker 3: with a hoodie on.
- 1:43Speaker 4: And I was on the subway, and I was in
- 1:45Speaker 4: the projects, and I was in all the places that
- 1:47Speaker 4: you probably wouldn't think a quote unquote celebrity or artists
- 1:51Speaker 4: would be. And I was by myself and I was
- 1:53Speaker 4: moving around. I was incognito. I was anonymous in the
- 1:56Speaker 4: disguise nobody really knew. Nobody knew me at all.
- 1:59Speaker 3: And what I.
- 2:00Speaker 4: Realizes that one of the things you forget about when
- 2:02Speaker 4: you out here in this world even if you just
- 2:03Speaker 4: someone with a good job, like just even if you're
- 2:06Speaker 4: just an everyday working person with a really good.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Job, you forget what's going on in the world.
- 2:11Speaker 4: You forget about the danger that some people face on
- 2:14Speaker 4: a day to day basis, You forget about some of
- 2:16Speaker 4: the hardships.
- 2:17Speaker 3: You forget.
- 2:18Speaker 4: And one of the things I realize is that you
- 2:20Speaker 4: know what, let me impart some of them tools, because
- 2:22Speaker 4: part of surviving in this life.
- 2:24Speaker 3: You know, whether whether it's in the street, whether it's you.
- 2:27Speaker 4: Know, at some academy somewhere, whether it's you know, you're
- 2:30Speaker 4: trying to pass the ball on whatever level you look
- 2:33Speaker 4: at it, keeping your word and paying people back is
- 2:37Speaker 4: a key to surviving in life.
- 2:40Speaker 3: It is a key.
- 2:42Speaker 4: It's called integrity. I'm not talking about moral judgment being perfect.
- 2:46Speaker 4: I ain't say that, but keeping your word, meaning what
- 2:48Speaker 4: you say, saying what you mean is important. And so
- 2:52Speaker 4: that's what this song, why this song was so important
- 2:54Speaker 4: to me. So when I wrote it, I said, you know,
- 2:56Speaker 4: me and Tip were talking. I was like, you know
- 2:57Speaker 4: what the sonics of this meant?
- 3:00Speaker 3: Man? It was just I think Ross and Joe would
- 3:02Speaker 3: sound crazy on me.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Did Q Tip do the beat?
- 3:04Speaker 3: He q Tip executive produced my whole album.
- 3:07Speaker 4: Oh shit, yeah yeah yeah, So it's it's it's just
- 3:14Speaker 4: this whole project. The force is I think innovative because
- 3:18Speaker 4: like what I wanted to do, Like my thing is
- 3:20Speaker 4: that we're in a genre and you grew up in it,
- 3:23Speaker 4: so you know what I'm talking about. We're in a
- 3:25Speaker 4: genre where we used to people having a certain amount
- 3:28Speaker 4: of time, a certain type of run, and then they're
- 3:31Speaker 4: done and they step away and that's it, and anything
- 3:33Speaker 4: after that is mediocrity.
- 3:35Speaker 3: But there's one key point when they rocking on.
- 3:38Speaker 4: Top of the game, and then everything else is kind
- 3:40Speaker 4: of andep I believe personally that's just because the genre
- 3:44Speaker 4: is young.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Now, people say.
- 3:45Speaker 4: Fifty years of hip hop and certain generations, that sounds ancient,
- 3:49Speaker 4: but if you say somebody transitioned at fifty, you would
- 3:52Speaker 4: realize how.
- 3:53Speaker 3: Young it is for a genre.
- 3:55Speaker 4: So it's like, yo, you know what, let me lead
- 3:57Speaker 4: by example, let me show people that just like when
- 4:00Speaker 4: James Cameron puts out a new Avatar, when they put
- 4:02Speaker 4: out a new Lord of the Rings, when a new
- 4:04Speaker 4: ll COOJ album comes, it should be an event. It
- 4:07Speaker 4: should be innovative, it should be groundbreaking. It should create
- 4:11Speaker 4: a different type of energy. It should not be following.
- 4:13Speaker 4: It should be special and unique and something that only
- 4:16Speaker 4: I could do. And that was the that's the goal.
- 4:19Speaker 4: So this was just the beginning, you know what I'm saying.
- 4:23Speaker 4: There's a lot more where that came from, you know
- 4:24Speaker 4: what I mean?
- 4:25Speaker 1: Yo, shout out to Joe Ann Ross on the record
- 4:28Speaker 1: you have stolen the show as a feature artist quite
- 4:31Speaker 1: a few times, obviously, Rampage EPMD. My favorite probably Serial
- 4:36Speaker 1: Killers on the Blackout album with Methan Red. Whould somebody
- 4:40Speaker 1: who you've gotten a guest verse from where you were like, damn,
- 4:43Speaker 1: they might have got me on this one?
- 4:46Speaker 4: Well, you know, you know that's a very interesting Well
- 4:49Speaker 4: it depends on I'm gonna tell you man, and this
- 4:51Speaker 4: is the like, it really depends on the type of
- 4:53Speaker 4: song it is. Right, If it's a song where I'm
- 4:57Speaker 4: really trying to go there, I've never.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Felt that, You've never felt that way? No, that's fair
- 5:02Speaker 1: now now.
- 5:03Speaker 4: Now if it's a song that's like more of a
- 5:07Speaker 4: like a party thing and I'm like doing my thing.
- 5:11Speaker 4: But then niggid, But yes, I felt that before, like
- 5:13Speaker 4: I felt like like I loved, like I felt very
- 5:17Speaker 4: comfortable in my verse. But I loved with Biggie and
- 5:19Speaker 4: Busta did on Flavor in Your Ear the remix, Like
- 5:22Speaker 4: I thought what they did was great. I felt good
- 5:24Speaker 4: about mine too because it was so quirky, and yeah,
- 5:28Speaker 4: I love what I did. It was quirky, shit, lookit,
- 5:31Speaker 4: it was cool. But I loved what you know, Biggie
- 5:34Speaker 4: and Busta did on that song. I thought they killed it.
- 5:36Speaker 4: So yeah, and even on my new album, I have
- 5:39Speaker 4: a song where I think somebody did something really really cool,
- 5:42Speaker 4: but I actually I love that, Like I look at
- 5:46Speaker 4: that as like that's what it's about, Like it's you know,
- 5:50Speaker 4: it's just like it's just like basketball, man, Like you know,
- 5:54Speaker 4: you're not going to go to the championship every year, right,
- 5:57Speaker 4: But that don't mean you can't play ball. Lebron I
- 6:00Speaker 4: may not be in the finals this year, but that
- 6:01Speaker 4: boy could play ball. We're not gonna say he can't
- 6:03Speaker 4: play ball just because he hit the finals this year.
- 6:06Speaker 4: So with the projects, I look at it the same way.
- 6:08Speaker 4: It's like I might do one, Okay, I do one.
- 6:10Speaker 4: It didn't I didn't lock in all the way or
- 6:12Speaker 4: didn't touch Okay, cool, but that don't mean that it
- 6:16Speaker 4: ain't gonna.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Be like like you just gonna blow me out the job.
- 6:18Speaker 1: I heard this one and I said, it felt like
- 6:20Speaker 1: a like a hit in the throat to remind people
- 6:22Speaker 1: like which I'm ll cool J, but you.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Know what it really like.
- 6:26Speaker 4: I think that happens more organically when you're trying to
- 6:30Speaker 4: have fun as opposed to when you trying to hit
- 6:33Speaker 4: people in the throat. I wasn't trying to do that.
- 6:35Speaker 4: What I was trying to do is make some dope shit.
- 6:38Speaker 4: What I was trying to do is put something together
- 6:40Speaker 4: that people could feel, that they could vibe to, that
- 6:42Speaker 4: was relatable, that came from the soul and came from
- 6:45Speaker 4: the heart. Because all of my best music I wrote
- 6:48Speaker 4: it from the heart. I didn't you know. I may
- 6:50Speaker 4: have been anger, I may have had different fuel. I
- 6:52Speaker 4: may have feeling horny or whatever the feeling was, but
- 6:56Speaker 4: whatever it was, it came from the heart. It didn't
- 6:59Speaker 4: come from like a contry try a place even like
- 7:01Speaker 4: you mentioned rampage like that was from the heart. Like
- 7:03Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying, Like, so you know, Saturday
- 7:06Speaker 4: Night Special, Baby, let's do it.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Hey, I want to talk about longevity because when we
- 7:11Speaker 1: think of like hip hop longevity, there's nobody. There's not
- 7:15Speaker 1: a person that has more longevity than you, like I
- 7:18Speaker 1: can't you know, like shots of Run DMC and Grandmaster Flash,
- 7:21Speaker 1: but they're not making music no more.
- 7:23Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying, And obviously rect in peace
- 7:25Speaker 2: to jam Master J.
- 7:26Speaker 1: But the longevity, there is a whole other level of
- 7:30Speaker 1: longevity that we're inside of when it comes to you
- 7:32Speaker 1: and your career and the errors of your career.
- 7:35Speaker 2: And the tree that you you know.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Where it's acting or executive producing, the radio station, the festival.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Now is who's an artist that you are just a
- 7:46Speaker 1: fan of that's you know, of the newer generation that
- 7:48Speaker 1: you can see kind of being around for years to come,
- 7:51Speaker 1: like yourself.
- 7:52Speaker 4: Oh, man, I think it's a lot of them. I
- 7:55Speaker 4: think that I think that Kendrick and can have a
- 7:57Speaker 4: long run. I think Drake can have a really long run.
- 8:00Speaker 4: And I think there's a lot of them. I think
- 8:04Speaker 4: Future can have a long run. I think because he's
- 8:06Speaker 4: a great writer. I think, you know, that really comes
- 8:11Speaker 4: down to a lot of different things. Man, there's a
- 8:13Speaker 4: lot of things that come into play with that. It's
- 8:15Speaker 4: not just look, first of all, you gotta love it
- 8:18Speaker 4: and you got to care about it. And you know,
- 8:21Speaker 4: if you're only doing it just for money, even if
- 8:24Speaker 4: you happen to catch the big check, that won't be
- 8:27Speaker 4: enough for you to keep going to distance because you'll
- 8:30Speaker 4: get lazy.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Yeah, so you have to love.
- 8:33Speaker 1: It, and you're not always going to be on top,
- 8:34Speaker 1: so the money's not always gonna be there. So you
- 8:36Speaker 1: got to put up shots just because you like putting
- 8:38Speaker 1: up shots, like you like, not.
- 8:40Speaker 4: True too well, you know that, I know what you're
- 8:43Speaker 4: trying to say. And yes, you know, there's a certain
- 8:46Speaker 4: amount of money. When you make a certain amount of money,
- 8:48Speaker 4: you're good regardless. Like, so it doesn't really become about
- 8:50Speaker 4: that per se. It's not about like a salary. But
- 8:53Speaker 4: it's more about like if you get comfortable, you know
- 8:56Speaker 4: what I'm saying, Like, it's about being creatively comfortable as
- 8:59Speaker 4: a poet, to be willing.
- 9:01Speaker 3: To take some chances, take some risks, you know, you know, like.
- 9:07Speaker 4: And also there is the fear factor associated with art, right,
- 9:10Speaker 4: like I could be like yo, I could have just
- 9:13Speaker 4: been afraid to make new music just because I think
- 9:15Speaker 4: the world changed, and just let that idea of the
- 9:18Speaker 4: world changing intimidate me in the thinking that I have
- 9:21Speaker 4: nothing to offer as an artist. But that's not true.
- 9:24Speaker 4: That's something those of fabrications we create in our mind.
- 9:27Speaker 4: You have taste. If you pay attention, you you have taste.
- 9:31Speaker 4: If you pay attention, you know what you want to play,
- 9:33Speaker 4: you know what you want to spend, you know what
- 9:35Speaker 4: you want to listen to, you know what the topics
- 9:37Speaker 4: you want to discuss.
- 9:39Speaker 3: Like, so, we all have a point of view.
- 9:41Speaker 4: It's just you have to be confident enough and open
- 9:45Speaker 4: enough to be vulnerable. Remember, like and sports is a
- 9:49Speaker 4: good metaphor because that most people can relate to it.
- 9:52Speaker 3: The greatest athletes in the world are the most vulnerable.
- 9:54Speaker 4: Why because in order to take the game winning shot,
- 9:58Speaker 4: you have to risk missing it and the whole world's.
- 10:01Speaker 3: Watching in order to in order for you know, to shoot.
- 10:04Speaker 4: That that that that that shot from the.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Tunnel, Like, yeah, you gotta know what comes with missing it.
- 10:09Speaker 4: Yet exactly so that as as an artist, when you're
- 10:13Speaker 4: creating music and all that, it's the same idea. It's like, yo,
- 10:18Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying. People could love it, people
- 10:20Speaker 4: get you gotta love it, So you gotta have confidence
- 10:22Speaker 4: in that so me, I just love what I did.
- 10:25Speaker 4: I promised people I was doing an album for the culture.
- 10:28Speaker 4: I told people you have I have two types of
- 10:30Speaker 4: albums that I made. I make albums sometimes for me.
- 10:34Speaker 4: Typically those albums are not commercial and only a very
- 10:37Speaker 4: small handful of people really appreciate them, and most people don't.
- 10:41Speaker 4: Then I have other albums that I create where I
- 10:43Speaker 4: do an album that's really for the culture, where I'm
- 10:46Speaker 4: really locked in and paying attention to the culture, and
- 10:48Speaker 4: I do those for them. This is one of my
- 10:50Speaker 4: cultural albums, So that's why it has that different feel
- 10:53Speaker 4: to it. Now that being said, there are two audiences.
- 10:56Speaker 4: There's a don't call it a comeback audience who been
- 10:58Speaker 4: knowing me from day one. Is that he raps audience
- 11:01Speaker 4: who are going to be surprised by this, like this
- 11:04Speaker 4: new artist who who.
- 11:05Speaker 3: Is a celebrity.
- 11:06Speaker 4: They know it's a celebrity, but may not necessarily know
- 11:09Speaker 4: him as a rapper. And so you have to get
- 11:12Speaker 4: something that you could press play on that both of
- 11:14Speaker 4: those audiences love, at least your version of what you
- 11:18Speaker 4: believe they'll love.
- 11:19Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
- 11:20Speaker 1: Yo, So when I was a little kid, I scoured
- 11:24Speaker 1: every Wharehouse in Phoenix, Arizona to find the deluxe edition
- 11:28Speaker 1: of DMX's It's Dark.
- 11:29Speaker 2: And Hell Is Hot.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Now, why would I want to find the deluxe edition
- 11:33Speaker 1: that came with an extra disc?
- 11:36Speaker 2: What song was? Do you remember the song that was
- 11:38Speaker 2: on the extra disc? No, it was the Ripper strikes Back.
- 11:43Speaker 3: That's right. It was the Ripper strikes Back. Damn, that's right.
- 11:48Speaker 1: And the CD looked just like DMX's album. And so
- 11:51Speaker 1: I had, like, bro, when I tell you like that,
- 11:54Speaker 1: I know that entire song by heart, Like, uh, obviously
- 11:58Speaker 1: you've been a part of legendary hip hop battles. I
- 12:00Speaker 1: just got to know, just from a fans perspective, what
- 12:02Speaker 1: do you think about this? You mentioned Kendrick and Drake earlier.
- 12:05Speaker 1: You just you know, I mean, I think it's good
- 12:06Speaker 1: for hip hop. What are your thoughts.
- 12:07Speaker 4: About thought it was great for hip hop? I thought
- 12:09Speaker 4: it was great. Yeah, I thought it was great for
- 12:12Speaker 4: hip hop. I thought it was the right thing. I
- 12:14Speaker 4: thought they both did well. They held their own I
- 12:16Speaker 4: thought Kendrick one, but I thought that Drake by no
- 12:19Speaker 4: means did he embarrass himself or have anything to hold
- 12:22Speaker 4: his hand.
- 12:22Speaker 2: He showed up, he showed up.
- 12:24Speaker 3: He definitely showed up. He did his thing.
- 12:26Speaker 4: He showed up, and I think his fans can feel
- 12:29Speaker 4: comfortable with that, and I think Kendrick fans and they
- 12:32Speaker 4: probably got to cross over. Both of them are fans
- 12:34Speaker 4: that loved them both.
- 12:35Speaker 3: And I thought it was great for hip hop.
- 12:37Speaker 4: And the key to that stuff is as long as
- 12:40Speaker 4: it doesn't distract you from your ultimate goal, it's a
- 12:44Speaker 4: wonderful thing to participate in.
- 12:45Speaker 3: I love it, man, I love it.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Yeah, it was dope to see you think cannabis too
- 12:50Speaker 1: on was it the Hall of Fame speech you had,
- 12:53Speaker 1: oh yeah, one.
- 12:54Speaker 4: Years ago, because like listen man, like it's about the art,
- 12:59Speaker 4: like this stuff is. You know, this is no different
- 13:01Speaker 4: from you know Lebron and Steph. It's no different from
- 13:06Speaker 4: you know, Jordan when he was coming in and Magic
- 13:09Speaker 4: was going out, or you know whoever you want.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Edwards and Luca. We just saw no difference.
- 13:15Speaker 3: The court.
- 13:15Speaker 4: Yes, you're on the court, so you're on the record.
- 13:18Speaker 4: It's cool after that, it's not personal.
- 13:21Speaker 3: You know, I love you.
- 13:22Speaker 4: It's all good, but it's and it's fun. So I
- 13:25Speaker 4: think it was great for hip hop.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Like, talk to me about, uh, you are obviously in
- 13:31Speaker 1: some legendary movies, a part of some legendary soundtracks as well.
- 13:35Speaker 1: I was just talking to my boy because I just
- 13:37Speaker 1: had a conversation with Demizza Damien Young from Power on
- 13:40Speaker 1: six and he was talking about, uh, the first time
- 13:42Speaker 1: he heard Zoom because.
- 13:44Speaker 3: Yeah, Bullwarp soundtrack.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Yeah, and the Bull orb soundtrack was crazy, right. But
- 13:49Speaker 2: obviously Heart had like a.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Shark's fin and and uh, you know, any Deep Blue
- 13:55Speaker 1: was crazy in your opinion, what is the best movie
- 13:59Speaker 1: that is a just over the years that you were in?
- 14:02Speaker 3: Wow?
- 14:03Speaker 1: Me, yeah, that you were that you were in because
- 14:05Speaker 1: you were in some heat man, like my personal favorites,
- 14:08Speaker 1: Any given Sunday.
- 14:09Speaker 4: I was about to say, probably the one that aged
- 14:11Speaker 4: the best would be any Given Sunday, and probably Into Deep.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Into Deep was five. Also how to Rob on the
- 14:19Speaker 2: soundtrack How to.
- 14:21Speaker 4: Rob fifty Cents first joint, Yeah, well first song, right, yeah, yeah,
- 14:28Speaker 4: hundred percent.
- 14:29Speaker 3: How to Rob was on there. I think Nas was
- 14:32Speaker 3: on that soundtrack. There was a few people on there.
- 14:35Speaker 3: It was dope. It was dope.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Okay, So this album what made you know? Because obviously
- 14:39Speaker 1: Q tip is a legend, uh, you know, one of
- 14:42Speaker 1: the greats ever, just in terms of just I mean,
- 14:46Speaker 1: I got Tribe as the top three group all time.
- 14:48Speaker 1: I think he's one of the best producers to ever
- 14:49Speaker 1: live what they made. You guys come together and decide
- 14:54Speaker 1: to do this together.
- 14:56Speaker 4: Man, I had a man, you know, it's it's really
- 14:58Speaker 4: just kind of funny as so I had a dream
- 15:01Speaker 4: about five Dog, you know what I'm saying. And I
- 15:04Speaker 4: was at the time, I was working on the studio
- 15:07Speaker 4: in Drake. With Drake, we got like thirty forty songs.
- 15:10Speaker 4: I was working on, me and him, but it.
- 15:13Speaker 5: Was literally Doctor Dre Yeah, Doctor drechalantly like, yeah, yeah,
- 15:18Speaker 5: me and Doctor Dre got thirty forty songs I never
- 15:20Speaker 5: ever hear ever, but you know, yeah, but I.
- 15:23Speaker 4: Felt like I didn't feel like my pen was living
- 15:26Speaker 4: up to the quality of his music. I felt like
- 15:29Speaker 4: the music was better than the songs I was writing.
- 15:31Speaker 4: So I decided to take a little bit of a break.
- 15:35Speaker 4: And he had other projects so it didn't affect him,
- 15:37Speaker 4: you know, And I was kind of just like pulled
- 15:39Speaker 4: back just a little bit and started thinking about my
- 15:42Speaker 4: writing and thinking about like how I wanted to approach
- 15:45Speaker 4: this thing. And then you know, Fife Dog came to
- 15:49Speaker 4: me in a dream. You know what I'm saying, Like,
- 15:51Speaker 4: I know it sounds crazy, but I'm telling that I'm
- 15:52Speaker 4: really telling you the truth. No, cap, this is real,
- 15:54Speaker 4: real shit. He came to me a dream and I
- 15:56Speaker 4: was like yo. He just was basically like, Yo, them
- 16:00Speaker 4: songs you're working on they dope.
- 16:01Speaker 3: And I was like yeah.
- 16:02Speaker 4: But then he looked at me with like a like
- 16:04Speaker 4: a little smirk like maybe they're not so dope.
- 16:06Speaker 3: And I was like hmm.
- 16:08Speaker 4: And when I woke up that next day was it
- 16:09Speaker 4: stayed on my mind and I said, you know.
- 16:11Speaker 3: What, something just told me to call Q Tip.
- 16:13Speaker 4: I said, cause I five, I can't talk to Fife direct,
- 16:16Speaker 4: so let me call the Tip And I called Tip
- 16:18Speaker 4: up and I'm like, yo, Tip Man, I said, yo,
- 16:20Speaker 4: I wanna do an album?
- 16:21Speaker 3: Well, he said, well what you want to do?
- 16:23Speaker 4: I said, Man, I want to do the blackest hot
- 16:26Speaker 4: Sauce Chicken wing Flower in the paper Bag season their
- 16:30Speaker 4: joint in the world. So it's hip hop, I said,
- 16:34Speaker 4: straight up. He said, what's up, big bro, say, let's
- 16:37Speaker 4: next thing.
- 16:38Speaker 3: We did? We win the studio and here we are. Man.
- 16:41Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying, And it just was like
- 16:46Speaker 4: it was inspiring. And it's not that it's excluding anybody.
- 16:50Speaker 4: I just wanted to be focused, you know what I'm saying,
- 16:53Speaker 4: and really make something some dope shit. And we got
- 16:56Speaker 4: in the studio and it just man, we just clicked.
- 16:59Speaker 4: We just clicked in the studio. Man, we just started working.
- 17:02Speaker 4: And you know, I mean, look, even.
- 17:05Speaker 3: Saturday Night Special, that's just the tip of the iceberg. Bro. Like,
- 17:08Speaker 3: I'm telling you.
- 17:09Speaker 2: How many songs are on the album if you don't
- 17:11Speaker 2: mind me asking, I'm.
- 17:13Speaker 3: Not gonna reveal it yet.
- 17:14Speaker 4: But it's it's but it's but but I'm gonna come
- 17:17Speaker 4: back to you. We'll talk again as I'm rolling this
- 17:20Speaker 4: thing out. We will talk again.
- 17:21Speaker 2: In person, hopefully because we're in LA.
- 17:23Speaker 3: We're all both of them, come in person.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Last thing, l if you're the goat, my bock goat.
- 17:31Speaker 1: By the way, Uh, actually you signed that album when
- 17:35Speaker 1: I met you. I have a man at my house
- 17:37Speaker 1: still framed.
- 17:38Speaker 3: That's hilarious.
- 17:40Speaker 1: I had to rip the cardboard because it was a
- 17:42Speaker 1: cardboard CD. It wasn't like a jewel case, so I
- 17:45Speaker 1: can frame it. But if you're the goat, who's your goat?
- 17:51Speaker 2: In hip hop?
- 17:53Speaker 3: Hip hop?
- 17:54Speaker 1: Yeah, Like, obviously, if you're the greatest of all time,
- 17:57Speaker 1: who's the greatest of all times?
- 17:58Speaker 3: Goat? Who?
- 18:00Speaker 2: If it's not you in your opinion, who's the goat?
- 18:02Speaker 3: I understand exactly what you're saying.
- 18:04Speaker 4: So, so here's the thing, Like, here's the thing about
- 18:09Speaker 4: you know, I just want to like kind of qualify it.
- 18:11Speaker 3: See a lot of people, and I like, I mean
- 18:14Speaker 3: a lot of people have different criteria for that.
- 18:17Speaker 4: Right, most of the time it ends up being something
- 18:19Speaker 4: about wordplaying street records like that's usually where it ultimately
- 18:25Speaker 4: lies because most of the guys, who most of the
- 18:27Speaker 4: people that vote and think about that are a lot
- 18:29Speaker 4: of males and guys, and they think about it that way, right.
- 18:33Speaker 4: You know, I was raised in hip hop before all that,
- 18:36Speaker 4: even before that, right, I mean I became a fan
- 18:39Speaker 4: when I was eight years old. When I was eight
- 18:41Speaker 4: years old, I was listening to the tapes of The
- 18:43Speaker 4: Cold Crush and the Treacherous and before there was records
- 18:46Speaker 4: on Viney, and then when it came to vinyl, I
- 18:48Speaker 4: was listening to all that too. So I say that
- 18:50Speaker 4: to say this, I look at a whole package, Like,
- 18:55Speaker 4: you know, run DMC.
- 18:56Speaker 3: Is like the greatest hip hop group.
- 19:01Speaker 4: They're unbelievable and groundbreaking, and you have to in order
- 19:05Speaker 4: to put it in the context. You like, when you
- 19:11Speaker 4: look at these artists, Right, you don't compare.
- 19:15Speaker 3: A model T to a.
- 19:17Speaker 4: F thirteen, F eighteen or F whatever, you know, F
- 19:20Speaker 4: thirty five whatever. You know what I'm saying. You don't
- 19:22Speaker 4: compare a model T Ford. I mean, I'm sorry. You
- 19:24Speaker 4: don't compare the Right Brothers what they built to a
- 19:27Speaker 4: jet fighter. You look at what where the Right Brothers
- 19:31Speaker 4: came from.
- 19:31Speaker 1: The same way about basketball, Like we go back to
- 19:33Speaker 1: the basketball comparison. It's like you can't compare Will to
- 19:37Speaker 1: embiid like exactly.
- 19:39Speaker 3: Jow out exactly. So my point I say that to say.
- 19:43Speaker 4: This because remember everybody that came after everybody had the
- 19:47Speaker 4: luxury of being influenced by the people that you're comparing
- 19:50Speaker 4: them to. So ultimately, you know, it's like compound interest
- 19:55Speaker 4: on ideas and philosophy and approach. Right, If I have
- 19:59Speaker 4: this person has one perst in form, he gets the
- 20:02Speaker 4: benefit of learning from one.
- 20:03Speaker 3: It's like the youngest sibling.
- 20:05Speaker 4: The youngest sibling learns from all the older siblings. The
- 20:08Speaker 4: older sibling only learns from the parents, and if they're brilliant,
- 20:13Speaker 4: then maybe they can.
- 20:13Speaker 3: Learn from the younger siblings.
- 20:15Speaker 4: But only there's very few people that a lot of
- 20:18Speaker 4: their minds to be flexible enough to learn from those
- 20:21Speaker 4: who come after them.
- 20:22Speaker 3: I'm actually like that, but it's not but it's rare
- 20:25Speaker 3: so to me.
- 20:27Speaker 4: Man, Like when I look at Mellie mel, I look
- 20:30Speaker 4: at you know, the fear of Graandma that's the flash
- 20:32Speaker 4: of the Furious Five.
- 20:33Speaker 3: And I look at the Treachers three, and I look
- 20:34Speaker 3: at run DMC.
- 20:35Speaker 4: Those are great acts, man, Those are like because they've
- 20:40Speaker 4: made something out of nothing.
- 20:42Speaker 2: What about the person who came after you that you're like, Yeah.
- 20:48Speaker 3: I'm a fan of too many of the name man.
- 20:50Speaker 4: I mean like Big Daddy Kane is like my favorite rapper, Daddy,
- 20:54Speaker 4: Big Daddy Kane is.
- 20:55Speaker 3: Unbelievable to me. I mean it's like, you know, he's
- 20:59Speaker 3: amazing to me.
- 21:00Speaker 4: I love Rock Kim. I think Rock Kim is amazing.
- 21:03Speaker 4: I love I love EM. I think Em is amazing.
- 21:06Speaker 4: I think Cougi Rapp is amazing. I love Prodigy. Prodigy
- 21:09Speaker 4: from Mob Deep is one of my favorite rappers. You
- 21:12Speaker 4: know what I'm saying, Like crazy love love Prodigy I
- 21:16Speaker 4: love Pharaoh Manch You know.
- 21:18Speaker 3: What I'm saying. Yes, you know what I'm saying. I
- 21:24Speaker 3: mean Cube n w A, I love n w A.
- 21:29Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying. I think.
- 21:30Speaker 4: I think Snoop has one of the Snoop can say
- 21:33Speaker 4: anything and make it sound great.
- 21:35Speaker 3: His flow is unbelievable.
- 21:37Speaker 4: He can say andy goddamn thing and it would sound amazing,
- 21:41Speaker 4: Like I love him like so Rick, Like there's.
- 21:45Speaker 3: So many that I can name nas you know, his.
- 21:48Speaker 4: His story, the vivid pictures that he paints with his story,
- 21:52Speaker 4: Like there's so many artists that I think are top tien.
- 21:55Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying.
- 21:56Speaker 4: The Goat thing for me was like a manifestation of
- 21:59Speaker 4: me looking at the reason I came up with that term,
- 22:01Speaker 4: since I was looking at Muhammad Ali being the greatest
- 22:04Speaker 4: of all Time, and I was looking at a street
- 22:05Speaker 4: ball player named Earl La Manigo and ear La Manigol
- 22:10Speaker 4: they used to call him got So I took greatest
- 22:12Speaker 4: of all Time and go and turned it into Goat
- 22:15Speaker 4: Greatest of all Time, made the acronym, and then named
- 22:17Speaker 4: the album.
- 22:18Speaker 3: I had no idea that it would turn into.
- 22:20Speaker 4: Like, yeah, it would become part of like the fabric
- 22:24Speaker 4: of society and all that. I was just thinking it
- 22:27Speaker 4: was cool. But and that was just how I looked
- 22:29Speaker 4: at myself. But I wasn't necessarily, you know, excluding every
- 22:34Speaker 4: other act. I still have my favorite acts that I
- 22:36Speaker 4: love and the people that I love hearing in music
- 22:38Speaker 4: Chuck d He has one of the most amazing voices
- 22:41Speaker 4: in the world. I mean, if you never witnessed a
- 22:43Speaker 4: DMX show like, I mean.
- 22:46Speaker 2: You know, yeah, yeah, multiple times.
- 22:48Speaker 1: I mean literally, man, stage it's crazy.
- 22:52Speaker 4: So, I mean, it's just so many great acts. Biggie,
- 22:55Speaker 4: I was in the studio in Biggie Row Who Shot You?
- 22:57Speaker 4: I watched them write it.
- 22:59Speaker 1: I watched the video with Biggie when you row who
- 23:01Speaker 1: Shot You? That story for when we sit down do that.
- 23:07Speaker 2: I want to dive into that, but I know you
- 23:09Speaker 2: are limited time. Man. I listened with any idea in
- 23:13Speaker 2: the albums coming out.
- 23:14Speaker 4: It's coming out in the fall. The album's coming out
- 23:16Speaker 4: in the fall, and it's called The Force. And uh,
- 23:19Speaker 4: I'll send you guys a track listen. We'll sit down,
- 23:21Speaker 4: we'll talk about the track listening. We're talking about the features.
- 23:24Speaker 4: You know, I'll be having some listening parties I'll have
- 23:27Speaker 4: one here in l A.
- 23:28Speaker 3: I'll make sure they invite you. You come. You can
- 23:30Speaker 3: hear it. It's gonna be fun somehow.
- 23:32Speaker 1: You you haven't aged a day, So when you send
- 23:36Speaker 1: over the track listening, send over whatever you're eating and drinking.
- 23:39Speaker 3: Well man got the magic elixa
