- 0:06Hello, what's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:10Welcome to What's Your Least Favorite Scary Movie?
- 0:11The podcast where we talk about the good, the bad, the ugly and
- 0:15the absurd and all of our favorite.
- 0:16Family's favorite? Scary movies.
- 0:17Because we believe every horror movie rightfully has its fan
- 0:20base. Even if we don't always get it.
- 0:22My name is Travis. My name is Jesse and welcome to
- 0:25our Patreon voted episode for February.
- 0:28We are talking silver bullet. Yeah, I'm so happy we're talking
- 0:33about this movie. Too, we were a friend of the
- 0:37show Bubby, and our Patreon, Jason invited us to go along
- 0:43with him and Kendra to see Silver Bullet in the theaters
- 0:47this past October. Yeah, it was part of where they
- 0:49were doing the different horror movies every day of the month.
- 0:53And yeah, this one it hit. And yeah, we just were
- 0:57immediately in love with it. So we're very excited to finally
- 1:01talk about it. Yeah, it's going to be cool.
- 1:02Before that, just a quick announcement, we're doing our
- 1:05Patreon bonus episode before the end of the week.
- 1:08Yeah, we're actually getting it out way earlier than when we
- 1:10normally do. Yes, because I'm going to be
- 1:13having surgery on the 23rd, so we just want to make sure that
- 1:15we've got that taken care of. Yeah, OK.
- 1:17So be on the lookout for that. It should be here.
- 1:20It should already be out. Yeah, yeah, in theory, just if
- 1:25you're curious about it. You don't have to be a budget
- 1:27tier, Bobby, but it's only a dollar more and you get special
- 1:32perks every month. Yeah, but you can just buy the
- 1:35episode if you want. The link to our Patreon is down
- 1:38in the show notes. We are doing a fan cast of a
- 1:44horror movie character themed season of the Traders.
- 1:49So we're gonna get our favorite 22 characters together and we'll
- 1:53assign the 1st 3 or 4 traders. If it ends up being fun and
- 1:59everybody ends up liking it, we might play out a season.
- 2:02Yeah, we'll simulate all the season of it if it's cool, but
- 2:05I'm excited for that. I think it's going to be fun.
- 2:07Jesse and I have really gotten into that show here lately, so
- 2:09this is going to be a fun little blend for us.
- 2:11I hope everybody else is into. It it's we're, we're going to
- 2:14have fun and we hope you all have fun at least by proxy.
- 2:17Yeah. Other than that, the only other
- 2:21announcement I have is that we have a poll.
- 2:23Yeah, that's right, baby. And we did it.
- 2:25We are back on track. We are so fucking bad.
- 2:28Yeah, and this one, in all credit goes to Jesse.
- 2:31She came up with the idea for this.
- 2:32Poll I had lost my last remaining brain cell at work
- 2:36when Travis texted me on my break and he was like what
- 2:39should the poll be? And I said, what is a knife that
- 2:45or this? That's perfect for this movie.
- 2:49It really works well. So that's what it is.
- 2:52It's either this or that. So, OK, we have 14% that say
- 2:57that is a knife, 86% say this. Is a noise 14% of you.
- 3:03I must remind you that that's not a knife.
- 3:07This is a knife. It is.
- 3:10It's subjective. I think that could be a knife.
- 3:16Tell that to Liz. I don't have to don't tell
- 3:20anybody that I you know what? But, I mean, this isn't it.
- 3:24That's my vote. This.
- 3:26Yeah, I agree. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:28OK. So yeah, that's it.
- 3:29We got our poll. So thanks everybody for doing
- 3:32that. I think we're ready to move on
- 3:33over to Silver Bullet now, so. Are OK?
- 3:36Silver Bullet released October 11th 1985.
- 3:40We watched it on our Screen Factory fork.
- 3:44You can currently stream it from YouTube TV or you can rent it on
- 3:48YouTube, Google TV Prime, Apple TV or Fandango at Home.
- 3:52Written by Stephen King. Yes, I know it is based on the
- 3:55short story by Stephen King, but the screenplay was also written
- 3:58by him. Surprise me.
- 3:59More information on that to come.
- 4:01Well, how did it surprise you? The ending was so sudden, no and
- 4:05chaotic. Finding that out made it made
- 4:08all of that makes sense, but it surprised me that he actually
- 4:11did the screenplay for this. Yes, OK.
- 4:15Directed by Daniel Atias, music by Jay Chataway, special effects
- 4:20makeup by Michael McCracken and Matthew Mungal, Starring Gary
- 4:24Busey as Uncle Red, Everett McGill as Reverend Lowe, Corey
- 4:29Haim as Marty Koslaw, and Megan Follows as Jane Koslaw.
- 4:34Travis, it's time for our favorite game on this show.
- 4:36Budget or bugtad? I think this is a bugtad.
- 4:42It is, but it might surprise you.
- 4:44I'd say it would be a high bug, Ted.
- 4:46If I had to put a number, I'd say 8 million.
- 4:49God damn, you were close. 7 million.
- 4:51Whoa. Yes, all right.
- 4:53It had an opening box office of 4 million and a worldwide gross
- 4:56of 12,000,006.4 out of 10 on IMDb.
- 5:00Awesome. Cool.
- 5:01I'm glad that it's got some love.
- 5:02Yes, I chose a theme from 1985. I could have gone all
- 5:06werewolves, it would have been possible.
- 5:08Seems like this is like a time where werewolves were really
- 5:10bumping. But there is an even larger
- 5:12theme to go with. OK, and I'm going to just simply
- 5:15call this theme. Bite me.
- 5:16Bite me. Interesting.
- 5:18So do we have vampires soon? We do.
- 5:21I figured OK. But that's not it.
- 5:22Like I chose something different for each one.
- 5:24OK, cool. So the first one is the stuff.
- 5:27Oh yeah. You literally bite it you.
- 5:29Eat the food, you become goop, I think.
- 5:33I think that's how that movie. Are you locking in that answer?
- 5:36I'm locking that in as a tagline if we ever cover that.
- 5:41Movie The Stuff released June 14th, 1985.
- 5:45A $1.7 million budget. I have shit for the gross but it
- 5:48is a 5.9 out of 10 on IMDb. OK, I think I've, I think I've
- 5:52watched that once. Yeah, I remember us watching it
- 5:55one time, but I couldn't tell you much about it.
- 5:58Same. Second, I can tell you a lot
- 6:02about this. We watch it minimum once a year
- 6:04and we've covered it on the show Return of the Living Dead.
- 6:08Oh hell yeah. OK, Yep.
- 6:10And I'm going to have a quick aside for just one moment,
- 6:13talking about zombie movies, if you listen to the January
- 6:18Patreon bonus episode where we discussed original versus remake
- 6:21and neither of us had seen Day of the Dead in 2008.
- 6:25I think that's the one of the dead or was the day of.
- 6:26The Dead Day of the Dead. I fell asleep last night on the
- 6:30couch. The Billy of Travis at some
- 6:32point had put Zombieland on and so the streaming was just vibing
- 6:36with that and I woke up to the 2008 Day of the Dead remake.
- 6:40We were absolutely correct and going with the original because
- 6:43that was it was rough. So like 10 minutes I saw of it
- 6:45rough. OK.
- 6:46I've seen 10 minutes of the original and it was good.
- 6:48So, yeah, all right, that's what we're going off of just 10
- 6:51minutes. It was rough all.
- 6:55Right, she she did like all reenactment of the scene for me
- 6:58this morning, it sounded. Yeah, you.
- 7:01My mother is dead. My hometown is infested by these
- 7:06monsters. You need to answer this.
- 7:10That's my meanest Suvari impersonation.
- 7:13OK. Return of the Living Dead
- 7:15released August 16th, 1985. Budget of $4 million.
- 7:19World Red gross of $14 million. IMDb score 7.3 out of 10.
- 7:23Hell yeah. Which I think that's the perfect
- 7:25score for it to have since it takes place on July 3rd.
- 7:29My God damn, that's is it really July 3rd?
- 7:34Yeah. Is it the day before July 4th?
- 7:37Really. Yeah, that's why we watch it
- 7:40every year on July 3rd. Huh, I didn't realize it was
- 7:42July 3rd. Yeah, We watch on July 3rd start
- 7:44at 5:00 PM. All right, if you're wrong,
- 7:46somebody's going to correct you. I am very confident OK in
- 7:50myself. OK.
- 7:53The third one is the vampire movie.
- 7:54It's actually vampire's like parody movie starring Jim
- 7:57Carrey. It's called Once Bitten.
- 7:59Oh interesting, I've never heard of.
- 8:00That I hadn't either, but I was like, you know what?
- 8:04Yeah. Once Bitten released November
- 8:0615th, 1985, A budget of $8.2 million, a worldwide gross of 10
- 8:13million, and an IMDb score of 5.60.
- 8:17It's 3.2 million budget, not 13.2 or 8.2.
- 8:21Whatever I said it's 3.2 million.
- 8:23I'm sorry. I had my tablet zoomed way in so
- 8:26in my handwriting would be neater except then when I zoomed
- 8:28back out it's just small and blends together.
- 8:33I've got 4 tag lines. OK.
- 8:36One on the poster. It started in May in a small
- 8:39town and every month after that, whenever the moon was full, it
- 8:45came back. That's too wordy.
- 8:47It's too much. Yeah, it's quite a bit.
- 8:49It's like a poem. Yeah, except it's one of those,
- 8:53like, fake poems that doesn't rhyme.
- 8:55Yeah, like I like, don't, don't come at me about like I have a
- 9:00pentameter. You guys like is poem should
- 9:03rhyme? I'm probably basic, but poem
- 9:06should rhyme. Yeah.
- 9:09You hear me? EE Cummings.
- 9:12He probably did that one right. There second type 1.
- 9:15When darkness falls, terror rises.
- 9:18I like that. That's a good one.
- 9:19That's really good. That's a good one.
- 9:21Part human, part wolf. Total terror.
- 9:25OK, not bad, not bad. He makes evil an event.
- 9:32OK, OK. Like are are we talking about
- 9:38the Reverend here? I think so.
- 9:39I guess he kind of does make an event.
- 9:41I don't think he's I I'm, I question his motives.
- 9:46I don't know if he really is intentionally wreaking havoc on
- 9:51this town because he wants to. I just don't know if he can
- 9:54control himself. Yeah, he started off kind of
- 9:58like a judge. Mental morality police type of
- 10:03werewolf. As priests do.
- 10:04Yes. Well, yeah, you know, we'll get
- 10:07into that in a little bit. First, let's do some fun facts
- 10:09about the movie. Yeah, sure.
- 10:10So Everett McGill, who played the Reverend Lowe, who also
- 10:14spoiler, is the werewolf, he very adamantly did not want to
- 10:19do the creature. He was like, I will play
- 10:21Reverend Lowe. I do not want to do the creature
- 10:24effects, the person that was originally pegged to be the
- 10:28creature, like stunt double, body double or whatever you want
- 10:33to whatever terminology fits wasn't working out.
- 10:37And because Everett McGill had a good, close relationship with
- 10:40the producer, I wrote his name down here somewhere.
- 10:44It's Dino, something Dino De Laurentiis, just like in Pretty
- 10:50Little Liars. He like they had a good working
- 10:53relationship and Dino was basically like, hey, but can you
- 10:56though? So he was like, he's in good to
- 10:59me. So he went ahead and did it.
- 11:01He said it was really, really uncomfortable and like there's a
- 11:04bunch of wires. And because we, you know, we had
- 11:07the screen factory discs, so we were watching some of the
- 11:09special features and yeah, they had like a bunch of wires in
- 11:12there because that's how they made the creature have its
- 11:13facial effects. And that was a whole event in
- 11:17and of itself, because the original face that they made for
- 11:19it looked too much like a bear. Interesting.
- 11:23And I. Didn't show a picture of that.
- 11:24They did. Okay, did it look like a bear?
- 11:26More so than a wolf, yes. It didn't have much of a snout.
- 11:30I was kind of paying half attention to that cuz I wanted
- 11:32to come into this surprise so. Yeah, yeah.
- 11:35And so that ended up getting redone.
- 11:38It sounds really uncomfortable that having like all those wires
- 11:41poked on your face. Yeah, that kind of surprised me
- 11:43here in that. Yeah, he, that's what his
- 11:46interview started off with us talking about that.
- 11:49And I think that kind of like tainted the rest of it because
- 11:51everything else we read, everybody was like, no, this is
- 11:53a great set to work on. And it was awesome.
- 11:55The special effects team, they, they really loved it.
- 11:58They said it was a great, great time.
- 12:00They didn't feel like they were going to work.
- 12:02They had made a body double for that very first killing of the
- 12:07the drunk man on the road railroads.
- 12:09They had set up a rig so that way when he was beheaded, the
- 12:12body drops and then just slowly starts oozing blood.
- 12:15And because of the way the rig was done, it was like 1 and
- 12:17done. You you don't get multiple takes
- 12:19with this type of setup and somebody messed up on dropping
- 12:23the rig. So the head flu and the body
- 12:26just kind of like. I overheard that part.
- 12:29They didn't pull out the safety pin which apparently so their
- 12:32problem was the body didn't collapse, it just shot blood
- 12:36from the neck. But that still would have been
- 12:38cool. Yeah.
- 12:38You know, I would not be complaining if that were the
- 12:41shot that we got. Yeah, this is Dan Atias's
- 12:45directorial debut, and Everett McGill said he was actually
- 12:48really impressed. Didn't seem like Dan was so
- 12:51fresh at this at all because he was like really ready to go,
- 12:54probably at least partially due to some of his acting
- 12:56experience. But he said when he was trying
- 12:59to describe this character to Low and the type of performance
- 13:02he wanted him to have, he was like crying because he said it
- 13:06was just so intense what the Reverend is going through
- 13:08Because, you know, he doesn't want to be this monster, but
- 13:11he's got his own issues that he's not really probably dealing
- 13:16with and working through either. Interesting.
- 13:19I wish we could have explored some of that a little bit more.
- 13:21Yeah, it seemed like there could have been a little bit more
- 13:23there, which I'll, I'll share a little bit when we do our our,
- 13:28our own thoughts on it. Yeah.
- 13:31This was shot in North Carolina. And actually a lot of like the
- 13:34the townsfolk were portrayed by local actors, which I just think
- 13:38is cool. Yeah.
- 13:40The original script writing team was Don Coscarelli and Sergio
- 13:45Atleiri. And Don Coscarelli was
- 13:48originally pegged to direct but Dino De Laurentiis was not super
- 13:54loving the script so he like had Stephen King come down to help
- 13:59consult with it and he had faxed some notes and Don Coscarelli
- 14:03rejected the notes and dropped out of the project.
- 14:05Damn. Yeah, that that guy was like, I
- 14:08made fantastic. I don't need this shit.
- 14:13Let's see, Gary Busey, you're going to love this.
- 14:17So Gary Busey actually did multiple takes of most of his
- 14:21scenes, one with the script line readings and then one or two or
- 14:25however many of him ad libbing. OK, because he apparently felt
- 14:29like such a connection with the character.
- 14:31And Stephen King and Danitius ended up really loving his ad
- 14:37libbed ones so they ended up mostly using the ad Lib takes.
- 14:41That explains why I feel like this character is Gary Busey.
- 14:44Yes, because. He mean it, just like he shines
- 14:47through. Absolutely, absolutely.
- 14:50The only other fun fact I have is that the special effects
- 14:54project was initially offered to Stan Winston, who turned it
- 14:57down. That's crazy.
- 14:58Yeah, that's crazy. Yeah.
- 15:00So so we could have had Stan Winston with Don Cascarelli
- 15:03making silver bullet. That could have been an
- 15:06interesting thing it. Could have been interesting, but
- 15:07I think it would have been a very different movie and I'm
- 15:10very happy with the product we got in the end.
- 15:12I am too. So, you know, while we're on
- 15:15that train of train of thought, let's go ahead and talk about
- 15:17good, bad, ugly and absurd. OK, let's do go ahead and kick
- 15:20us off, Travis. All right, so from the good
- 15:23right out the gate, I I love the effects from this movie.
- 15:26It I I just love practical effects and this is the golden
- 15:29era of it right here and we get a lot of really cool depths in
- 15:33this movie and they get to like be displayed in all of their
- 15:38gory gory yes, it's it's really cool.
- 15:43They did a pretty good job with the werewolf.
- 15:45I will say after, you know, having watched a lot of Buffy
- 15:48lately, I've been seeing some bad werewolves.
- 15:50So it's nice to see some good werewolves again.
- 15:52You know, it's making me feel good about that.
- 15:55I, I love the characters in this.
- 15:57I especially love the Reverend as the villain he is.
- 16:02There's something about him it's almost like a cartoonish we
- 16:06like. They give him the eye patch they
- 16:07like. But Everett McGill, holy shit,
- 16:10he's got the facial structure to pull off an eye patch.
- 16:13And the thing? Is I think it's criminal for him
- 16:15to not just be in an eye patch in all of his roles.
- 16:17He he rocks the eye patch, he rocks the evil look actually.
- 16:21And like whenever you realize that it is him, he's like, how
- 16:24could I have not guessed it was him?
- 16:26He looks. I was shocked the first time it.
- 16:29Happened. I was.
- 16:30I did not expect. Night like I knew it was was
- 16:32coming but when it like pans to him his full face after he's
- 16:37just greeted Janie you're like. That's a great shot.
- 16:40It's a great reveal because he's just over there gardening in the
- 16:42church. The one or whatever.
- 16:44Yeah. But man, yeah, I love that.
- 16:46I love all the characters here. I love the story progression.
- 16:49The relationship between Marty and Red was really cool.
- 16:54Gary Busey is. He's a one-of-a-kind kind of
- 16:58character for this, right? Here I could not picture this
- 17:00movie with anybody else's Uncle Red.
- 17:02Yeah, me too. Like, look, I'm not.
- 17:04I'm going to be real. I haven't seen a whole lot of
- 17:06Gary Busey things, but the things that I have seen have
- 17:09been pretty interesting. And this one right here was
- 17:11like, he he just knocked the shit out.
- 17:13Like this is great. I liked his.
- 17:15Career. If I found out that Gary Busey
- 17:16was actually Corey Haim's uncle, I'd be like.
- 17:19Yeah, yeah, that's like a it did a really good job of like
- 17:24showing that uncle nephew relationship, you know, cuz I
- 17:28have like a similar relationship with our nieces and nephews and
- 17:30stuff like that. But it was really cool.
- 17:34I also like introduction of like the speeding, like the silver
- 17:39bullet, like motorcycle thing too, because like it allows him
- 17:43to be able to like go out there and like have these chases with
- 17:45the werewolf and stuff like that.
- 17:46And that whole scene where he's getting chased by the Reverend
- 17:49in the car and it goes over to that bridge and like, he runs
- 17:53out of gas and then the reverend just like, slowly approaches him
- 17:56and walks up to him. That is so fucking chilling.
- 17:58It was so good. That scene makes me think of the
- 18:02new roller coaster at Kings. I say new, it's one of their
- 18:05newer ones. But the roller coaster at Kings
- 18:07Island, Mystic, Timber Falls or whatever it is like because they
- 18:10have a similar kind of setup. There's allure and then you're,
- 18:14you know, going through the whole roller coaster and you
- 18:16stop in a covered area and something sneaking up behind
- 18:19you. Yeah, it was really cool, man.
- 18:21There's just so much fun about this movie.
- 18:23It's just a fun movie, man. I gave flow as well from start
- 18:26to finish. It's super entertaining.
- 18:28All of the characters are super likable, even the villain, you
- 18:31know, like it's just, it's so well done.
- 18:33I liked it a lot. Yeah, yeah.
- 18:35No, I agree. This movie is just easy breezy,
- 18:38fun to watch like it flies by. It's I actually looked it up
- 18:43because I was expecting it to be like an hour 20.
- 18:45It's an hour and 35 minutes. Is it really?
- 18:47Yeah. Wow, so I like, I'm shocked at
- 18:50just how quickly like it progresses.
- 18:52The pacing is Immaculate. Like you said, the performances
- 18:56are all great, save for maybe Brody's dad, Herb.
- 19:04He has some he's. Got some?
- 19:07Moments. He's got some moments or he's
- 19:09really chewing on that scenery. Dude, OK, I will give him props
- 19:13for that scene in the bar where he's like, yeah, shut up, you
- 19:16know, shut up, Joe. Talk to me about private
- 19:19justice. He fucking steals that scene,
- 19:22yes, Yeah. But like him crying at the
- 19:26funeral or when he he. Kind of does the junk Christmas.
- 19:32Week or like when he sees his boy's body like.
- 19:38That's just like scream. That's a sad.
- 19:40Scream, Yeah. Like you're just, you're
- 19:43reminded me too. That was another thing I loved
- 19:44about this movie was like the the town, like where they're all
- 19:47forming the mob and doing mob justice and stuff like that.
- 19:50I love. That I wrote in my notes.
- 19:52What is this Haddonfield? I know it reminds me of
- 19:55Halloween 4. And like it the all the
- 20:00different funerals, it kind of gave me Heather's vibes.
- 20:03Yeah, I got that too. Yeah, yeah.
- 20:06So yeah, this is just this movie just instantly endeared me to
- 20:13it. I I love it so much.
- 20:17All right, What, what bads do you have for it?
- 20:19Really, I just got to say the ending is a little bit lack
- 20:22Buster and so abruptly and I I wish that we had some kind of an
- 20:28epilogue or something, you know, like after the fact, like see
- 20:32things wrapped up. But like it really like they
- 20:34kill him. They huddle up in like against
- 20:37the wall and like, hug each other and that's it.
- 20:40We put the. Credits.
- 20:42And I just, I would have liked to have had some aftermath, you
- 20:45know, like. Like how did the town react to
- 20:47the referendum being the murderer?
- 20:49How did the town react to actually being a werewolf?
- 20:52You know, like did everybody. Else I don't believe anybody
- 20:55will believe that it's a werewolf.
- 20:56Yeah, I don't think so either. But like, you know, like what?
- 21:00What did the mom and dad think? Like This is why we don't leave
- 21:04red. What happened to the wall of
- 21:06their house? Yeah, like what the fuck
- 21:08happened? Like the reverend jumped through
- 21:11the wall and like not that did not happen.
- 21:13I. Have to do this.
- 21:15I have to. And I'm really sorry because I
- 21:17recognize the horse is dead and I'm still beating it.
- 21:19But we have a werewolf tearing down the wall of the house, but
- 21:22we couldn't get Christine tearing down the wall of the
- 21:24house. And Christine, I'm sorry, I'm
- 21:26I'm going to be bitter about it. I think in this case, right
- 21:29here, the like if, if John Carpenter directed this movie
- 21:33and wrote it instead of Stephen King writing it, he would have
- 21:35had all of that taken out. There would have been no
- 21:38crashing through walls. You bringing out John Carpenter?
- 21:41Reminds me of one. We're good.
- 21:41I forgot to mention, but the soundtrack is perfect.
- 21:44Oh yeah, it. Is like the.
- 21:45Music has these great moments because like when Marty is
- 21:48setting off the fireworks and he feels something watching him,
- 21:51the music gets like really discordant and creepy.
- 21:53Yeah, you're right. I forgot about the scores.
- 21:56The scores really good. It's kind of, I think it's like
- 21:58Cynthia a little bit. Yeah, yeah.
- 22:00It really hit. Yeah.
- 22:04For me, the bad is is it would have been interesting to see
- 22:09those kills be a little bit more paced out.
- 22:11Like we see the morality, like he gets a drunkard, he gets a
- 22:17woman that's, you know, I think it's implied that there's some
- 22:21adultery that happened and that she is about to overdose on some
- 22:25pills. She was looking at a picture of
- 22:27somebody else other than the guy that she was fighting with,
- 22:29right? That's what you're saying.
- 22:30No, I think the guy was like cheating on his wife with her.
- 22:34I don't know why I have that in my head, but that's the vibe I
- 22:37got. Interesting.
- 22:40Maybe that's not accurate. I haven't actually read the
- 22:41story that the movie's based on, you know?
- 22:45Then he kills Tammy's dad who is a bigot.
- 22:50He's. Not a nice guy, but then it just
- 22:53like it, it kind of starts to devolve to just people that are
- 22:56on to him. And it would have been
- 22:58interesting to see a little bit more of that devolution down to
- 23:03that. Yeah, I like that.
- 23:05It seems seemingly random, but I like the fact that like he hones
- 23:11in on a person, like it becomes more of a personal thing.
- 23:14I think it's one of the things I liked about this being a like a
- 23:19werewolf movie this time around. I don't know, I feel like a lot
- 23:21of times the werewolf is just kind of like doing shit.
- 23:23This time I feel like the reverend like had a mission.
- 23:25I feel like it's also just a really kind of powerful way of
- 23:30showing, like it's a good metaphor for that holier than
- 23:33thou attitude of like, I'm going to judge you and I'm going to
- 23:37mete out punishment for these things.
- 23:39What's happening to me, I can't control that.
- 23:41You know, it's not my fault that I'm a werewolf, that I'm
- 23:44murdering people, yet somehow I'm intentionally choosing who
- 23:46I'm murdering. You know what I mean?
- 23:48Like there's that cognitive dissonance there, which I think.
- 23:50Is really great. I never really thought of that.
- 23:52But I just like I said, I wish I'd been explored a little bit
- 23:55more, but with the way this movie was paced, I don't know
- 23:58how much more you could fit in without losing some of the
- 24:01vanity of it. Yeah, for sure.
- 24:04Ugly. Ugly.
- 24:05I had Tammy's dad because he's just like saying that they need
- 24:09to kill handicapped people like that was fucking crazy.
- 24:13Yikes on bikes. And there are people to this day
- 24:15that agree with that kind of sentiment.
- 24:17That's so fucking stupid. Yeah, like he was an enjoyable
- 24:21death because he got pulled under the like four boards but
- 24:25also stabbed by the four boards and it was really well done.
- 24:28He had it coming. He had to come.
- 24:32How about you? I think probably a little bit of
- 24:36the way that people can't agree how to treat Marty.
- 24:41You know, that Nan's a little bit overprotective of him.
- 24:44And Red's like, well, you're just treating him like he's like
- 24:47him being handicapped is all that he is.
- 24:49And there's a little bit back and forth.
- 24:51And then, you know, I feel like we also have to acknowledge
- 24:54that. Were there any, you know,
- 24:56wheelchair users who were trying to find a role, you know, in
- 25:01Hollywood at that time? Yeah, and so cuz this is a role.
- 25:04That could have gone to somebody who's got that, you know, like
- 25:08actual it lived experience, but also, you know, can't get the
- 25:14same roles as Corey Haim. All the.
- 25:16Time, you know? Yeah.
- 25:18So. I'm not, I'm not blaming Corey
- 25:20Haim for that. I just, it's not his fault.
- 25:23And I'm sure that there are probably some additional
- 25:25practicalities behind it, but you know it, it just is ugly
- 25:29that when those marginalized groups have a chance for a role
- 25:33and then it it goes to somebody who doesn't belong in that
- 25:35group. Yeah, for sure.
- 25:37Yeah. Absurd.
- 25:41I remember when we walked out of the theater the first time I
- 25:45went to the bathroom and I my first steps out of the bathroom,
- 25:48you guys looked at me like, can we all agree that Herb was
- 25:52wearing a bald cap? What is that guy's hair
- 25:56situation? We, we, we couldn't stop
- 25:59talking, talking about it. Well, it doesn't look natural.
- 26:02OK and The thing is like we watched it at the theatre now we
- 26:06brought it home with the 4K Dolby Vision get to like have
- 26:09and it's detail. It looked more natural.
- 26:11This time it doesn't look. More natural, but.
- 26:14Definition. I looked at it, I'm like, I
- 26:15think I see stubble up there. I think he shaves that part off.
- 26:19I don't know what's happening. Freckles.
- 26:21You saw freckles? Yeah.
- 26:22I thought I saw stubble. I thought I saw like, he's just
- 26:25like, he wants that. I think he's just like, just
- 26:30like take the top off. I feel like if you're.
- 26:33Sides. If you're balding and you just
- 26:35decide to shave it off, shave it all off you.
- 26:37Know yeah it can work for some people don't go some people can
- 26:40make it work this guy right here he didn't have it and I'm sorry
- 26:44I'm not trying to make fun of people that are always in here
- 26:47or anything it's just this guy is head was very.
- 26:51It was the cause of debate. It was.
- 26:53And the fact that all of us were thinking it individually and
- 26:56then had to discuss it after we saw the movie were like, yeah, I
- 27:00mean, clearly that's something that stands out to people.
- 27:02It was so strange, but that was probably the biggest one other
- 27:07than just the entirety of Gary Busey's character in this movie.
- 27:10OK, yeah, he's so over the top, especially in the introduction
- 27:14where he's playing that card game with Marty.
- 27:18He always calls it yeah. I wonder if he had that whole
- 27:22joke. I want to see the original skirt
- 27:25because I want to know which scenes definitively where AD
- 27:28lived. He's so loud, like honestly, if
- 27:31I weren't, if I had no way of anticipating what's coming out
- 27:34of his mouth, I would probably jump like every time he like
- 27:38speaks at me like it would always catch me off guard, like,
- 27:41you know? Oh man, OK, what's your?
- 27:45So Marty has the silver bullet. It's a wheelchair and it's gas
- 27:51powered. And I just, we've seen him come
- 27:53out of the school. Yeah, in his gas powered silver
- 27:57bullet, custom made wheelchair, which to me says that he has
- 28:01been poisoning his classmates. Oh my God, you're long.
- 28:06Yeah, holy shit. Can you?
- 28:07Imagine like that would just be like somebody having a lawn
- 28:11mower in the class with you all day long.
- 28:14He's just like, got it idling the entire time in the
- 28:17classroom. Everybody's taking the test and
- 28:20then the classroom. Here classes have a moment of
- 28:25silence for another lost community.
- 28:33He's just like here. I like there.
- 28:35They're actually reminded me of another absurd ad because like I
- 28:37remember when we were first watching this and I was like, he
- 28:39has a gas powered wheelchair. I've never seen anything like
- 28:41that before. What does he do?
- 28:43Does he go to the gas station whenever I thought that was
- 28:45like, that's such a weird thing. I hope I actually see it.
- 28:47The next shot I see him just like pull into a gas station.
- 28:51I'm like, Oh my God, they fucking did it.
- 28:53He went to a gas station. It's just so funny Where it.
- 28:57Was being filled up at. I don't even know.
- 28:59He didn't even get gas. He just like went over there and
- 29:01he's like, hey, can we pretend like I'm getting gas?
- 29:05Like I, you know, I don't know. It was just so funny.
- 29:09But yeah, OK, I think, I think it's time to give our ratings.
- 29:13OK, yeah, I will love this movie man.
- 29:14I give it 9 1/2. I'm gonna give it a nine.
- 29:18OK, so we got a 9.25 starting average.
- 29:21Very well deserved for this movie.
- 29:23Agreed. We're ready to talk about it.
- 29:25Let's do it. We started off with a Jane
- 29:28voiceover. It's springtime and it's 1976.
- 29:32It's the last full moon before the summer.
- 29:34I'm excited for spring to come back.
- 29:36Me too. This has been a rough winter.
- 29:38Very. We just had so much ice on the
- 29:39road and I just got to say fuck ice.
- 29:42Fuck ice in all forms. Get ice right the fuck out of
- 29:44here. I can't believe that our
- 29:46government hasn't done enough to get rid of this ice.
- 29:49Even our local government filled us this.
- 29:51Ice is just terrible for people, it's ruining lives.
- 29:55Abolish it. So fuck yeah, fuck the ice.
- 29:59But they don't have to worry about that this in this season
- 30:03because we're going to be going from spring to October in this
- 30:06movie. And they they see the first
- 30:10kill. This is what we're seeing.
- 30:12This is when it all started. Nobody, nobody realized what was
- 30:15going to happen this summer. So we see Arne on the railroad
- 30:18tracks. He is drinking, singing about
- 30:21once Rheingold. He is also drinking Rheingold.
- 30:24And then he gets his capitated. Yeah, it's a really cool shot.
- 30:29You know, he's over there, he gets out and all of a sudden he
- 30:32sees like a big footprint and he's like, what the fuck?
- 30:34And then just, like, wax his head off.
- 30:37And that was a really cool shot. They did a really good drop with
- 30:39that fake head. Yeah.
- 30:40It kind of reminded me of Hereditary because, like, we
- 30:42just cut to it being found the next day in the sunlight.
- 30:44And it was just. Yeah, I feel like Ari Astor took
- 30:47that shot from here. You know what?
- 30:50I hope he did. Yeah.
- 30:52I love just this lore that we've built in our head for Ari Astor.
- 30:56He was inspired by Hereditary. He was inspired for Hereditary
- 31:00by Silvery Bullet, and he was inspired for Midsummer by Wrong.
- 31:04Turn 6 will not be told I am incorrect about any of these.
- 31:09I want us to meet him someday and he'll be like, I've heard
- 31:12your podcast. Like you guys win.
- 31:14You guys understand? You guys, you get it.
- 31:17Thank you. OK, Janie is 15, Marty is 11.
- 31:22And they aren't the Tigers Mill celebration.
- 31:25I don't know if there's like in like a town celebration, like a
- 31:28Centennial. It's seven, it's 1976.
- 31:30So it could just be like the country bicentennial.
- 31:32It just seems like the County Fair type thing.
- 31:34Yeah, and Janie is, you know, she's 15.
- 31:38She's showing off her cute little skirt to a boy she likes.
- 31:42And Marty's friend Brody is like, hey, let's play a prank on
- 31:45your sister Janie. And so they kind of drop a snake
- 31:49in front of her. She falls, rips her hose, and
- 31:53then they do it again and she falls into a puddle.
- 31:55And she's really upset. And her parents tell her that
- 31:58she has no right to be upset because Marty's in a wheelchair.
- 32:02I feel bad for her. Last child.
- 32:04Yeah, I I feel bad for her because like Marty didn't want
- 32:07to do it. Marty's like OK, we can prank on
- 32:09her, but let's not be too hard. And then Brody goes too hard 2
- 32:12times. Yeah, and he's trying to make up
- 32:14for it in the backseat of the car, but she does not want to
- 32:17hear any of it. I am going to call bullshit on
- 32:19this because that night he he comes and gives her some money
- 32:24for he's like just some new pantyhose.
- 32:26How much do they cost? I just want to help you replace
- 32:28them. She goes.
- 32:29I can get them for a dollar. I can get a pair of legs at for
- 32:32$1.49 down at the pharmacy. I can get a pair of legs for
- 32:35$0.79 at Walmart in 2026. There isn't.
- 32:39She is cheating him out of. Pharmacies are fucking expensive
- 32:43for shit though. I still still the legs, they
- 32:46come in the little plastic egg thing.
- 32:48I will show you at Walmart later today.
- 32:50Please do. But before that they also yes,
- 32:54she she had some harsh words because she was mad at him.
- 32:56She's like, well. She's covered in blood.
- 32:58And I want to say perhaps to the costume department because the
- 33:00way it dried, it looked like, you know, caked up clay.
- 33:04Yeah. At the time they get home.
- 33:06But she is. She's like, oh, and by the way,
- 33:08Uncle Uncle Red is getting another divorce.
- 33:11Yeah. He's a, he's a chronic drunk.
- 33:13Nobody likes him, you know, And she's saying that because Uncle
- 33:16Red is Marty's. Guy and she she apologizes.
- 33:20She was like that and she doesn't apologize for saying it
- 33:22because it's true, but she apologizes for the way she said
- 33:24it. She is.
- 33:25She's going to go far. The force #3 Who's this guy,
- 33:28Ross? Oh, and it's also important to
- 33:35know this is how we found out about the the woman with the
- 33:38baby. Because when Janie is like
- 33:39hiding in the bushes after she's gotten covered in mud, she sees
- 33:43this woman telling this man that she's pregnant.
- 33:46It's his baby. And he was like, I ain't.
- 33:49My bun in your oven. Not my lover.
- 33:52And Michael Jackson overheard it and.
- 33:54That's where that came from, yeah.
- 33:56He's like, right? The camera pans over just a
- 33:58little bit of Michael Jackson. Take notes, all right?
- 34:04It's also where you got the idea for thriller, this movie, right?
- 34:06Exactly. Yeah.
- 34:08So I don't know if like that's why I just have this like he
- 34:11doesn't want to take accountability for the child
- 34:13because it will like reveal his affair.
- 34:16I might spend too much time on Reddit, I don't know.
- 34:18But I mean, it's plausible. Head can, yeah, it could be.
- 34:21We don't know. It's a bad situation whenever it
- 34:24is. Yeah, she's taking it hard
- 34:26though, cuz she goes home that night while her mom plays hymns
- 34:29on the piano downstairs and she dumps out.
- 34:32This is a very sorry trigger warning, going to talk about
- 34:36suicide, but it's a very aesthetic moment.
- 34:38She's got this beautiful ceramic plate she dumps these bright red
- 34:41pills on. She thought about it, a crystal
- 34:42glass she's drinking the water from.
- 34:45But if you need help, please seek out help resources.
- 34:47Don't take me talking about this aesthetic and condoning their
- 34:51actions because I think that people deserve to live and they
- 34:54deserve to get help that they that they need because I don't
- 34:57think anybody should have to live feeling the way she's
- 35:01feeling in that moment. Yeah, she's, she's bummed about
- 35:04what happened and she's like, well, you know.
- 35:06She's like they. They say suicide is a way to not
- 35:10like you won't get into heaven by suicide, but.
- 35:12Go to hell, especially if you're pregnant.
- 35:14Yeah, so she's like, whatever, you know?
- 35:16And then the werewolf said not on my watch.
- 35:19Reverend's like I've got you. Yeah, he, like you can see it's
- 35:23the werewolf is stalking outside and it climbs up the the.
- 35:26What do you call this? Lattice.
- 35:28Lattice. I was I was going to call it
- 35:29lattice. I might be saying it wrong.
- 35:31It's one of those words that I've seen written down but never
- 35:34heard out loud. You know what?
- 35:36We've been watching a lot of Jeopardy lately and it realized.
- 35:38It's made me realize a lot of words I do not know how to
- 35:41pronounce. Story of my life.
- 35:45But yeah, he climbs up that, bounces through the window, rips
- 35:49her up. This is kind of like Nightmare
- 35:50Before or Nightmare on Elm Street right here.
- 35:52Yeah, mom downstairs goes to get her gun and she's a responsible
- 35:57gun owner. She's got the gun and the bullet
- 35:58sword in different places. Not so great for a break in
- 36:02situation because by the time she's got the gun loaded and
- 36:04she's upstairs it it's all over. Yep, finds a body up there.
- 36:09Sheriff Joe Haller talks to Pete.
- 36:12He says that the state detectives are coming in and
- 36:16Pete goes to the bar and. I mean, I love the scene though,
- 36:19because like, he's on the phone with the detective and like, he
- 36:22ends up like fuck off. And I like how Pete's just like
- 36:25Joe. I don't think it was a good idea
- 36:28to tell the detective to fuck off.
- 36:30He's like he. Was already shut.
- 36:32He had already hung up. I just love that delivery like
- 36:36Joe. Yeah, and but you know what?
- 36:39Pete's loyal. He's true.
- 36:40He was at the bar that night. Andy.
- 36:42What's his name? Andy.
- 36:43Andy Fairfield. I think that's right.
- 36:46I just called him Andy, but he's a little.
- 36:48He's a town shitster. Yeah, they've all decided 2
- 36:51murders means a serial killer and that Joe Haller doesn't know
- 36:56his ass from Pete's. So, you know, they're, they're
- 37:01just, they don't have any faith in him.
- 37:03Yeah, and Pete tries to speak up and say hey, excuse me, but we
- 37:07have. Then Andy says something about
- 37:09like how his taxes pay the shares salary.
- 37:13And then somebody is like, well, that's interesting because the
- 37:16last report I had said that you were arrears in taxes.
- 37:19I like that guy speaking up there.
- 37:20He's like, excuse me, but then we have I was.
- 37:23Tyranny. Yes.
- 37:24So look up with the actor. Yeah, this guy right here, holy
- 37:28shit. He's a good guy.
- 37:29Just. To see Lawrence tyranny pop up
- 37:30in this movie, I'm like, shit, he's holding up a baseball bat.
- 37:34This is Peacemaker. I'm gonna stop fighting in your
- 37:36presence. He I know him mostly like he's
- 37:41Elaine's dad and Seinfeld. He made Jerry Seinfeld and Jason
- 37:45Alexander super uncomfortable because he was like seriously
- 37:48unhinged on set. He seems like a scary guy to be
- 37:51around in general. Yeah, no, he's, he's got that
- 37:54air of intimidation about him for sure.
- 37:56Yeah, so he he breaks it up and they all get along.
- 37:59Yeah, Marty is at his last day of school.
- 38:03Everybody's leaving, saying their goodbyes, and he's going
- 38:06to walk Tammy home. You know, his uncle has updated
- 38:10the chair some. He took off the muffler, which
- 38:17you know what this tracks for Small southern town bullshit
- 38:22kind of stuff, because if it wasn't a wheelchair, in five
- 38:26years it would be a lifted pickup truck.
- 38:28Oh my God. Yeah, yeah.
- 38:32But yeah, they're, they're walking home and they walked
- 38:35past where the woman was killed at her house.
- 38:38And the cops are all over there. They're boarding up the window
- 38:40on the second floor. And then Tammy tells them that
- 38:43she hears weird sounds coming from their shed, flash
- 38:46greenhouse or whatever, and it makes her, makes her nervous and
- 38:49he's like, well, I'd offer to go check.
- 38:51She goes, no, it's covered in mud, you'd get caught.
- 38:53And her dad's in the doorway saying that it's stuff I'm not
- 38:58going to repeat. He's just like, he's cursing
- 39:00about Marty, basically being like Marty.
- 39:04Yeah. All it is.
- 39:05Like oh man, he's in a wheelchair, must automatically
- 39:08be a bad person. Never mind the fact that he
- 39:10fucking walked my child home from school and is clearly her
- 39:13friend. Yeah, so Marty, he, he, he pulls
- 39:16up at the gas station. Gotta fill her up.
- 39:19I'd like to find out that this is the second movie within a
- 39:22month where Corey Haim has left his gal's home and her dad got
- 39:28killed by a mysterious. Oh my God, you're right.
- 39:33Wow, Corey Haim. Do it.
- 39:36Corey Haim's characters are just a They're dead.
- 39:40Yeah. I'm not going to go and talk to
- 39:41Corey Haim, the person. Yeah.
- 39:43You're. Not you will, Yeah.
- 39:44Yeah, unless you don't like your dad.
- 39:46You know, like in Tammy's situation here.
- 39:49Yeah, I feel like she probably got into a better situation
- 39:53after that. Her life improved.
- 39:54Yeah, Yeah. For sure, 'cause that.
- 39:57Oh, let's see, that night, after he's gone to the gas station to
- 40:01fill up his chair, Marty and Red are playing cards.
- 40:05They're betting using baseball cards, so it's double cards.
- 40:08I was wondering what that was 'cause they were saying baseball
- 40:10teams and. Yeah, I just assumed that that's
- 40:12what they were betting with 'cause they were also playing
- 40:14poker. I will agree with Red here.
- 40:16Fuck the Yankees. I figured he would have.
- 40:19Some. I'm more on the fuck the Dodgers
- 40:21train right now though. Fuck the Dodgers, fuck you guys.
- 40:24Yeah, I hear this so much. Just fuck them.
- 40:27I I don't like them one bit. But yeah, they're playing the
- 40:30game. Red's drinking and.
- 40:34Nan is not amused. Nan is the mom, yeah.
- 40:39Yeah, and so Marty goes upstairs.
- 40:41He's got to go upstairs. She got ready for bed with the
- 40:44help of Jane. They've got one of those chairs,
- 40:46stairlift, and I looked it up because this is the second time
- 40:49we've talked about one of these on the show.
- 40:52And I looked up the cost and in 2026, estimates can go from
- 40:56about 2500 to 5000 for a straight single story staircase.
- 41:02When you have like a, a, what is it?
- 41:05The circular staircase? Spiral.
- 41:07Yeah, spiral. Thank you.
- 41:09The next word out of my mouth was going to be Helix, so I
- 41:11appreciate that like that gets really expensive.
- 41:16It's. Long.
- 41:16I can imagine that's a little bit more complex.
- 41:18Yeah, yeah. But just in case anybody is
- 41:20wondering like I was, yeah. Now you know.
- 41:23Yeah, and so Nan is fighting with Red.
- 41:25Yeah, they're arguing about how to how they each treat Marty.
- 41:29Red's just trying to treat him like a normal kid, you know,
- 41:32like, he's just, he is a normal kid.
- 41:34And that's his argument. And Nan's like, it's easy for
- 41:36you to say because you just come in here.
- 41:38You show up once a month and you come over here and play some
- 41:41games and then you just leave. But we have to live here and we
- 41:44like we see what he goes through every day.
- 41:46Yeah, and also like you're showing him how to give up.
- 41:50That was fucking harsh. It was harsh, but.
- 41:55She's like, he's like, he's not giving up.
- 41:57It's like, well, she, he doesn't need you to show him how to
- 41:59like. Oh my God, sister.
- 42:01Big fight. Big fight.
- 42:04Meanwhile, over at Tammy's house, where your dad is drunk
- 42:07and watching wrestling, which is probably the only time in this
- 42:10moment I will relate to this man.
- 42:13And he hears the noises outside, grabs his gun, because that's
- 42:17what every drunk person needs, is a gun rack with fully loaded
- 42:21guns. And he goes outside.
- 42:23He checks the greenhouse and it's a nice spooky atmosphere
- 42:28and you think something's going to pop out from behind one of
- 42:30the plants, but no, under the floor.
- 42:33Yeah, just reaches up there, pulls him down under and stabs
- 42:36him with one of the boards. It's.
- 42:38Really cool. A lot of the the next day, the
- 42:41mayor decides to question Haller, 'cause he's like, what's
- 42:45going on with your investigation?
- 42:46Like what was happening? Do we have anything to go off
- 42:50of? The mayor is very concerned
- 42:51about this. Marty and Brody are flying kites
- 42:55and Marty has to get his out of the tree, and Brody apparently
- 43:01just treats him like a normal kid.
- 43:03So yeah, he's like. I think I often get yourself.
- 43:05I was watching this video yesterday and it was like if
- 43:07wheelchair users acted the way non wheelchair users did and it
- 43:11was this man who's like looking at stuff in Home Depot and this
- 43:14woman in this wheelchair goes can I help you Sir?
- 43:17Is there anything I can get for you?
- 43:19Don't be proud let me help. And like, it's just like was
- 43:23just him going down different aisles and her just like getting
- 43:26closer and like, come on, you can tell you need the
- 43:29assistance. Yeah, it's really cool.
- 43:35Jane comes up. Yeah.
- 43:36It's supper time. Yeah, you gotta come home.
- 43:38Yeah, apparently like Mom's mad. Yeah, it's man, isn't me back
- 43:42cuz I'm I'm from the era where our rule was when the street
- 43:46lights come on, that's when you go back home and that's kind of
- 43:50the situation. This is for them.
- 43:52I didn't have St. lights. I was out in the country.
- 43:56But yeah, yeah, I get it. Yeah.
- 43:57You know, come home, you know, whatever.
- 43:58And no. So they do.
- 44:00And Brody's like, no, it's cool. Like I'm, I'm going to stay back
- 44:03and hang and continue to fly my kite.
- 44:05Yeah. And Marty just gives him this
- 44:07long look. He's like, like he knows
- 44:09something. He's sensing something is going
- 44:11to happen. It is like what happened.
- 44:14It's the same vibes I got when we were watching Dragon Ball
- 44:19and. Goku looks at Krillin.
- 44:21Goku looks at Krillin cuz Krillin's getting Gokie at.
- 44:24His arm. Before him.
- 44:26That's exactly what this is from.
- 44:28And he is just staring at him and I'm like, this stare feels
- 44:32like foreshadowing. And it is.
- 44:34You know, I wouldn't actually be surprised if that was like,
- 44:36Toriana lifted a lot of shit from American movies, especially
- 44:40like these types of movies. Maybe that did come from them.
- 44:43I don't know. I I would love that.
- 44:45I would too. Yeah, so we got Mariaster Kira
- 44:49Toriyama. Who else has been inspired by
- 44:52Silver Bullet? Everybody.
- 44:53Michael Jackson especially. Though Yeah, God, can't forget
- 44:56Michael Jackson. Although in my world he's just
- 44:59actually in the movie. Just always off camera.
- 45:04So yeah, like we cut and they fight.
- 45:09Somebody, they're at the bar again and he's still running his
- 45:11mouth about how Haller can't even find like a single
- 45:15detective and Deputy Pete is confronting him again and
- 45:18they're about to fight. But then Brady said her buns and
- 45:20he goes, my son, he's missing. And then we cut to Haller at the
- 45:26park. Just this kite that we had seen
- 45:31Brody flying covered in a full bottle of ketchup.
- 45:36Yeah, and he's just saying prayers to himself.
- 45:39Like you know what they found? He looks over at the gazebo and
- 45:44we see something or someone and we know it's not good, and
- 45:50that's when Pete pulls up and he's got Herb with him and
- 45:56Holler tries to stop him from going over there.
- 45:58He's like Herb, you don't want to do this.
- 45:59That's one of those moments where you don't want to, but you
- 46:03feel like you got to. Yeah, that's one of those that
- 46:05like you feel sick every step of the way, but you have to see it
- 46:09to know that it's real. Yeah.
- 46:12And that's what he does. Like the man.
- 46:21Can act pretty well, but not with the sorrow.
- 46:24He's not good with emotion. Yeah, it's just not his strong
- 46:27suit. At the funeral, Reverend Lowe
- 46:31says that the face of the beast always becomes known, so he is
- 46:36foreshadowing his own fate. Red offers to drive Marty home.
- 46:42And Marty's like, hey, I think maybe a monster's doing this.
- 46:46And Red, who was drinking during the funeral.
- 46:49He almost did. He he second guess it.
- 46:51He he snuck out the flask and almost took a sip.
- 46:54He's like, I better not. Well, who sees his nephew, who
- 46:59he's very close to, who's just left the funeral of his best
- 47:03friend and laughs in his face? Yeah, Yeah.
- 47:07But then he does kind of, like, clear it up a little bit.
- 47:10And he was like, listen, it it is a monster, but it's a human
- 47:13monster. It's a psychopath.
- 47:15Yeah. Then we get the Haddonfield
- 47:19Express. Yep, there's a mob format at the
- 47:22bar and it's led by Andy. He's trying to get it.
- 47:26And this is where Joe steps in. He's the head police chief or
- 47:31whatever. What you guys are talking about
- 47:34is, and in my note I wrote vigilantism because that's what
- 47:37this is. And he goes private justice.
- 47:42Mine was better. Yeah, I, I agree.
- 47:44I also like, you know, I would watch that show.
- 47:47Yeah, Private Justice, that daytime TV courtroom show,
- 47:52Absolutely. We'd watch Private Justice.
- 47:53It's probably being filmed right down the road at like studios as
- 47:56we speak. Surely.
- 47:58But you know, this is a really good scene.
- 48:00I like both performances here because Joe, he has a very
- 48:02compelling argument here. He's like, look, I see what you
- 48:04guys are doing, but you know what?
- 48:06As far as it's concerned, I am the law in this town.
- 48:10You guys are not going to be doing this shit.
- 48:12It would be. A lot more convincing if we saw
- 48:14him actually do something though.
- 48:16Yeah, it's true. He had them here, He had them.
- 48:19But they're one guy in the moment that you can not argue
- 48:22against because Andy's like, look, shut up, Joe.
- 48:25And like, whatever. But then from the back, Herb is
- 48:27like, yeah, Joe, shut up. Then he gives this very
- 48:31impassioned speech about how they didn't even have all of the
- 48:34pieces of his boy to bury. He's like, how about you go dig
- 48:39the pieces of my boy up and explain to him about private
- 48:44justice? I understand what he's saying
- 48:46here, but I don't understand how this applies like.
- 48:50Yeah, because at first it almost feels like he's on Haller's
- 48:52side. Yeah, that's what I thought too.
- 48:54But like, I mean, it's just very quickly, not like, so you are
- 48:57wanting everybody to go look for this thing.
- 48:59Yeah. Yeah, OK.
- 49:00Except he doesn't go out to the woods with them, which is good
- 49:02for Herb. What he said he was going to.
- 49:06He said he's going to go look. He didn't go to the woods, I
- 49:09guess, yeah. So we have a few groups of
- 49:12hunters, 1 is just a duo in one of the fellows steps into a bear
- 49:16trap and the other guy's trying to get him out.
- 49:18This is just like, I appreciate this because like we don't have
- 49:21to do this, but we're going to give you some more like a
- 49:23special effects score right here.
- 49:24Because he steps in that and like something catches their
- 49:27attention and they jump and he accidentally like twists his leg
- 49:30and they just like just like, Oh yeah.
- 49:33Wasn't necessary for the story, but I liked.
- 49:35It leg trauma, by the way, I think because Travis made me
- 49:37watch the opening game for one of the college baseball teams.
- 49:41This guy had a two run home run and he was celebrating and
- 49:44jumped while he was running first base and he broke his
- 49:48fucking leg rounding first base. It's like he grew a second knee
- 49:52in the middle of his shin. That's not how legs are meant to
- 49:55bend. It was.
- 49:55Bad it. Was bad.
- 49:57He didn't even get to score it. Was a jump scare.
- 49:59I'd had a sip of coffee and Travis was like, hey, watch
- 50:01this. Some crazy shit happened
- 50:05yesterday in baseball. I'm just going to say that's
- 50:08just the tip of the icebreaker. I think I'm not even lying, you
- 50:13know, it's. Even crazier, what baseball
- 50:17season just ended? It's February.
- 50:20This is college, OK? The the college year ends here
- 50:24in a couple of months. We don't got much more time.
- 50:29Baseball is not a real sport. It is.
- 50:31Okay, so the group, group, yeah, they're in the woods and it's
- 50:35foggy and they're just wandering around.
- 50:38They good. This is Murder Mist.
- 50:39It is, this is very sinister. And they're like, I sense
- 50:43something here. I hear it and they hear
- 50:45something crawling around. One of them goes.
- 50:47It's after the. And that Spooks everybody.
- 50:52Well, because he said it so scary and convincingly, and then
- 50:56as soon as he said it. Pulls the dude down, throws him
- 51:00up against the tree. The other guy, he gets pulled
- 51:02and then he gets his head just like ripped off and then held up
- 51:06for everybody else to see. And then he goes over to the
- 51:09bartender. I can't remember the bartender's
- 51:10name, but he takes. That's just just Lawrence
- 51:13Tierney. Yeah.
- 51:14And he takes the Peacemaker and he just starts using it.
- 51:16I like this. I like the fact that the
- 51:18werewolf used a weapon. Yeah.
- 51:20Like he starts to just whacking at him with the baseball bat,
- 51:23and then Andy runs away and a couple of others do, too, and
- 51:26they make it out alive. Yeah.
- 51:29And I think it's funny because even though Andy wasn't hurt in
- 51:33this attack, he shuts his fucking mouth for the rest of.
- 51:36The movie does not see shit the rest of the movie, so another
- 51:39funeral. Yeah, I can't tell when it goes
- 51:41from reality to dream here. I can't either, but the reverend
- 51:46is up there. He's got to give another speech.
- 51:48He's looking more sweaty this time.
- 51:50Very nervous, like the townsfroker just staring at him.
- 51:54He's having a hard time speaking, which I get it, but
- 51:58also like, I'm not a reverend for a living.
- 52:01This, this us talking to strangers on the Internet.
- 52:04Guess what? We edit like I can.
- 52:07I fucked up so many times already today.
- 52:10I'm just going to delete all of that.
- 52:12You guys won't be any of the wiser when this comes out on
- 52:14Thursday. But the reverend, this is his
- 52:17life. This is his calling, his
- 52:19passion. But he's getting nervous and
- 52:21he's watching these townsfolk and he's trying to make them
- 52:23feel better, but then they all start turning into werewolves.
- 52:26And this should have been the hint.
- 52:27This should have been the hint that he was the werewolf.
- 52:30Yeah, but but then again, you can also say I don't know, he's
- 52:32just freaking out. But you know who else knows?
- 52:35It's the. Werewolf.
- 52:35Maybe he'll join forces with Marty and Jane.
- 52:38Yeah, yeah. So the the Tarker's Mills Galla
- 52:43Fairer has cancelled its fireworks, and it seems the fair
- 52:47itself is just actually fully cancelled.
- 52:50And then we hear on the radio that the sheriff has encouraged
- 52:53folks to follow the curfew, but not to leave town.
- 52:57Yeah. Don't run away.
- 52:59It's a it's a ghost sound out there too.
- 53:00All the streets are empty. But I mean also, it is the end
- 53:03of summer. This is when people do like
- 53:05vacations. That's true.
- 53:08So we see no. It almost feels like the mayor
- 53:11in jaws like doesn't want to lose the the revenue.
- 53:17Yeah, well, the family that was doing this, this is around the
- 53:20time of Jaws. If it's in the 70s, you know
- 53:22they they leave the werewolf and go to the shark.
- 53:24Man, Can you imagine? You're like, you know what?
- 53:27No, we're just we're going to go to the coast.
- 53:29Yeah, we're getting away from this.
- 53:30We need a. Vacation Amity Island sounds
- 53:32amazing. Sounds super friendly and
- 53:34welcoming. Yeah, oh boy.
- 53:38All right, so now we see the family.
- 53:39They're all grilling over at their house.
- 53:41So having a good time, enjoying summer.
- 53:45I need to add this to our list of ugly because red refers to
- 53:49this dish later as pork tartar. Sir, that's just food poisoning
- 53:53at that point. What is pork tartar?
- 53:55Tartar means rare. Oh, really?
- 53:57Yeah, that's steak tartar is like basically blue, I think.
- 54:02Gross. From what I understand, you must
- 54:05remember it's been half my life I've not eaten meat.
- 54:08I've been me my whole life and I don't know what this shit, so
- 54:11it's OK. Well, you don't like pink or red
- 54:14in your food, Yeah. You're right.
- 54:17Yeah. So, yeah, they're doing that.
- 54:19Red is working on something for Marty in the garage.
- 54:22He's keeping it hidden. He's keeping it hidden but this
- 54:25is also weird because it's the cause a lot of this house so.
- 54:28Yeah, like how he must have, like, brought it over and it's
- 54:30like finishing. Putting I'm picturing it like
- 54:33software type of like piece by piece situations making it in.
- 54:37Yeah, and he's like, OK, what? He's like your best friend died.
- 54:44Yeah, your best gal left town. Fares cancelled, fireworks are
- 54:48cancelled. But I got something that'll make
- 54:50you feel better. I love is like, tell me I'm not.
- 54:53It's just like, I love this. This is great.
- 54:55And this to me, it starts to turn into like I would like to
- 54:58see the laws in the town for what constitutes a street
- 55:03vehicle. I want to know, is Marty like
- 55:07legally allowed to operate? I.
- 55:09Think this is one of those things where small towns will
- 55:11start a blind eye. Yeah.
- 55:13I don't think that they care about this situation here.
- 55:16Because like, I know Lexington has very specific laws about
- 55:19what can and cannot be written on the sidewalk versus bike lane
- 55:23versus street. Yeah, well, nobody pays
- 55:25attention to that. Well, no, it doesn't actually
- 55:27matter. I just know that the laws exist.
- 55:29Yeah, yeah. And this thing is fast.
- 55:32So he's like, OK, what? He's like, don't tell your mom
- 55:34how fast is. This Yeah, and I I love this
- 55:37he's like, all right, go take it for a spin.
- 55:38And he like peels out and like just seeing red go through all
- 55:43of the emotions of grief. He's like he's dead the entire
- 55:47time when he. Comes back, he's like, listen, I
- 55:50love you. It would kill me if you killed
- 55:53yourself on this. Fair.
- 55:55That's a good way to tell him to just be chill because he's like,
- 55:58OK, that means a lot. But I I got to ask a question
- 56:01because we see like it looks like Corey Haim actually did all
- 56:06the writing on this thing. Because anytime I don't, I
- 56:08didn't recognize any stunt people for that.
- 56:11And there's a moment where he fucking willies the thing.
- 56:14Yeah. Nothing is going fast.
- 56:16I couldn't. He's not even wearing a helmet.
- 56:18I was I was in a bit of disbelief at them allowing this
- 56:23to go. I don't think you could do this
- 56:25today. Yeah, no, it'd definitely be a
- 56:28bit more of a tricky situation today, but yeah, I think this
- 56:34was before Lost Boys, wasn't it? This is 85.
- 56:37Lost Boys was 87, so I. Was going to say maybe Jason
- 56:42Patrick like taught him how to drive a bike on set.
- 56:45It could be being as on set, yeah.
- 56:48Lost Boys 87. OK, yeah.
- 56:51So yeah, they make it back and then, you know, it looks like,
- 56:54hey, things have finally been repaired between Red and Nan
- 56:57because they are having a nice moment.
- 56:58I think what is implied here is he has quit drinking or how he's
- 57:02presenting it to them. Yeah, he's a.
- 57:04Sober guy now. Yeah, he's if not fully sober,
- 57:07more sober. Yeah, he's not actively drinking
- 57:10around. Them.
- 57:11And he's got one last thing for Marty before he leaves and it's
- 57:15fireworks. He said save the rocket for
- 57:18last. Trust me on that.
- 57:20And then this answer is all of the questions of our household
- 57:25during these holidays where we're like, who is still setting
- 57:28off fireworks at 2:00 AM? Apparently it's 11 year olds who
- 57:33were given fireworks by their quasi drunken uncle.
- 57:37That's exactly what it is. At least he takes the time he
- 57:40goes out to the woods. So thank God this isn't
- 57:44California, 'cause that's just asking for a forest fire.
- 57:48And he's setting them off and he starts to feel something and.
- 57:54We see like we're getting some POV shots of the wolf, the
- 57:57werewolf stalking in the woods too.
- 58:00Yeah, and he is about to light the rocket and then the werewolf
- 58:04comes out of him. He turns around, shoots it, goes
- 58:07into the werewolf side. Boom.
- 58:08Doesn't kill him, but it will make it easier to figure out who
- 58:13is the werewolf. Yeah, he also gives him a chance
- 58:15to be able to speed out of there.
- 58:17So he rides, he gets out of there and makes it back to his
- 58:20house. And the next morning he calls
- 58:21Red. And Red doesn't believe this
- 58:24still. He's woken up drunk.
- 58:26Yeah, next to random woman. Random woman.
- 58:29We don't. Even know who it is.
- 58:31So Marty talks to Jane and in her voice over, she said that
- 58:35she believed most of it. And she can she could tell that
- 58:39Marty believed all of it. So she agrees to do a little
- 58:41Recon for him. She's got to collect recyclable
- 58:44cans and bottles for the Med Q drive smart.
- 58:47And yeah, so she's just going around checking to see who's got
- 58:50one eye. And this is how we know Andy is
- 58:52still alive because she goes into the Barber shop.
- 58:55He is there, literally hiding his face in shame.
- 58:58I like all these shots though, like the way that this whole
- 59:00thing is done. It's just like the way that the
- 59:02camera moves and it's just like glancing on everybody's face and
- 59:06the way everybody's just looking at her.
- 59:07Everybody's so suspicious of each other.
- 59:09Yeah, yeah, I like this whole lot.
- 59:11This is the end of the season of traitors like everybody's like.
- 59:15Yeah, you, you, you. And then she's all but giving up
- 59:20at this point. So she's like, all right, I'm
- 59:21taking the. She's seen the entire town.
- 59:23And so she gets to the church to drop her stuff off.
- 59:26And Reverend Lowe, who's like working on the garden, he's
- 59:28like, what's the matter? She goes, just my stupid
- 59:29brother. He goes, yes, brothers are
- 59:32stupid. Yep.
- 59:33And you see. The iPad, it's just a it's just
- 59:38a Jimmy Simpson like cotton pad. Over his like he actually drew
- 59:42the eye on it. I don't love that.
- 59:48Yeah, yeah. And so she goes and she unloads
- 59:51her stuff and I like how this is all honours is so.
- 59:53Good. Wait, hold on.
- 59:54I gotta say though, just I I was curious about the director
- 59:58because they say that he went on the direct OITV.
- 1:00:01He directed a lot of It's Always Sunny.
- 1:00:03You know what? I'd like to think it was his
- 1:00:05idea to do the eye that. It might have been.
- 1:00:08He did a lot of episodes that we he did a lot of episodes.
- 1:00:11Oh, really? Yeah.
- 1:00:12So I don't know, it could have like could have been, could have
- 1:00:15been a part of that right there. It's like, you know what?
- 1:00:18I like you. Know what I'm editing?
- 1:00:20I don't care. I'm going to pull this up on
- 1:00:21IMDb real quick, all right. Underage drinking a national
- 1:00:24concern, Gun fever. The gang finds a dead guy.
- 1:00:29Gang goes jihad. Dennis and D go on welfare shit.
- 1:00:34Mac bangs Dennis's mom $100 baby.
- 1:00:38The gang gives back. The gang exploits a miracle.
- 1:00:41The gang runs for OK basically all of season 2.
- 1:00:45Charlie goes America all over everybody's ass.
- 1:00:49Dennis and do you get a new dad? Mac and Dennis buy a timeshare
- 1:00:54the gang say is the day. Flowers for Charlie and the Gang
- 1:00:57makes Lethal Weapon 6. OK.
- 1:01:00So it's not any of those episodes, unfortunately.
- 1:01:02Unfortunately not. I don't even think there was
- 1:01:04Mcpoiles in any of those episodes.
- 1:01:06Season 2, it's got to have some Mcpoiles.
- 1:01:09Well, that's true. Yeah.
- 1:01:10OK. Now that we've done that very
- 1:01:13important work. Yeah, so she she goes into the
- 1:01:16shed to drop off the bottles. Yeah, he says.
- 1:01:18Just put them in the shed and give me your tally sheet.
- 1:01:20So I appreciate how this is all on our system, which I get that
- 1:01:23it's for church. Church people can lie.
- 1:01:25Yeah, for sure, as we see with this guy.
- 1:01:28Yeah, so she goes in there and she falls and falls into a bunch
- 1:01:31of the recycling. Janie just stays fallen.
- 1:01:35Yeah, she's a bit clumsy. Not very good on her feet.
- 1:01:38But this is a little miracle in disguise, because she happens to
- 1:01:42find the Peacemaker broken off. Amongst the rubble they shoot
- 1:01:46up. Yeah, and she freaks out.
- 1:01:49And then I just love this whole thing with like, Reverend.
- 1:01:52He's so fucking creepy in this moment.
- 1:01:54Yeah, he comes and basically like corners her in the shed and
- 1:01:59we discover he is the Cyclops. Yeah, he's, he's trying to get
- 1:02:02her to come. Yeah, he's like, he's like, come
- 1:02:04inside for a soda. Yeah, I will give you a ride
- 1:02:09home. And she's just like, no play.
- 1:02:12It a little bit cooler, Jane. She, she does the best she could
- 1:02:15in that moment because now she's like 100% team Marty.
- 1:02:18She's like, all right, the. The thing is though, she I think
- 1:02:21she tips him off because she's like, tell your brother, give
- 1:02:24him my best. That's ominous.
- 1:02:29So Marty constructs A disturbing letter to the Reverend and mails
- 1:02:33this. I forgot about this.
- 1:02:35He's like, we know who you are, we know what you are, why don't
- 1:02:38you kill yourself? Leaky Laura, kill yourself.
- 1:02:41Like what the fuck? But The thing is, this is like,
- 1:02:44what else do I expect from a little 11 year old kid, you
- 1:02:47know? This is like this is it.
- 1:02:49This is why I heard this shit in Call of Duty when I was 11 also.
- 1:02:54It ties into our Final Destination franchise coverage
- 1:02:57right now, because somebody in every movie inevitably is like,
- 1:02:59well, if you want to break the chain, you could just.
- 1:03:01Yeah, you're right. You're right.
- 1:03:02Yeah, so they send him that, and we find out through Jane's
- 1:03:08narration that they've sent, like, several.
- 1:03:10Yeah, they just keep doing it. And then they finally tell Red
- 1:03:13and he's like, wow. So I don't want to be involved
- 1:03:16in the prosecution of this crime.
- 1:03:18Yeah, it's like you guys are sending little love letters to
- 1:03:20the Reverend over here and you think he's a fucking werewolf.
- 1:03:24Now he says the most devastating thing that I feel like only a
- 1:03:29well loved family member can get away with, which is sometimes I
- 1:03:32wonder if your common sense wasn't also paralyzed.
- 1:03:38Brutal. Harsh.
- 1:03:39That was harsh. If that had come from anybody,
- 1:03:42if I read, I think it would have like destroyed Marty.
- 1:03:45Yeah, yeah, yeah. But they, they stand firm on it.
- 1:03:50They're like, look, because he's like Jane, do you believe this
- 1:03:52is like, look? I don't think I believe all of
- 1:03:55it, but I believe something's up with the Reverend at least.
- 1:03:57And Marty says, I know he's coming for me.
- 1:04:01I know it's going to happen. And we see the next day, maybe
- 1:04:05that's the next day we don't have, I think.
- 1:04:07It's later that day they're they're.
- 1:04:09It's later. Yeah, they're stocking the
- 1:04:10reverend. They're watching them from afar,
- 1:04:12from the car. And then later on, Marty is
- 1:04:16watching a baseball game. He's going to go.
- 1:04:19I this was interesting to me, too, because it almost looked
- 1:04:22like he was watching the baseball game.
- 1:04:23And you get that sense, like he's very sad, like he can't
- 1:04:25play with the kids. I think with his wheelchair he
- 1:04:28could play. He could.
- 1:04:29Be an outfielder. He could round the bases like
- 1:04:31you go fast enough for that thing.
- 1:04:32I don't think you're cheating with that thing like.
- 1:04:34I don't feel like he'd be able to get a good stance to bat
- 1:04:36though. If he used the silver bullet, I
- 1:04:38think he would not do well. He he could bat.
- 1:04:43I mean, a batting is a lot of like, you know, power with the
- 1:04:45hips. So I don't know how you'd shift
- 1:04:47your way, but I think you could like, like maybe get people play
- 1:04:51baseball and you, you can do it. There has to be some adaptable
- 1:04:54equipment out there. I I want to do some further
- 1:04:56research on this I. I know it's a thing, but like,
- 1:04:59he could play. I think he could play.
- 1:05:00And what's interesting is it seems like the kids like having
- 1:05:03him there, but it's just weird that he's not on the other side
- 1:05:05of the fence. I think they're like, dude, you
- 1:05:07got a fucking motorcycle, you cannot play with us, right?
- 1:05:10That is. Cheesy.
- 1:05:11Unfair. Yeah, like we're not saying is
- 1:05:14PEDs, but. Yeah, like there is an
- 1:05:17advantage. Here PE performance enhancing.
- 1:05:19Equipment, all the kids were juicing okay, they were all
- 1:05:22taking steroids too back. In the 70s it was just common.
- 1:05:26This was the roid era by the way, so trust me, they were all
- 1:05:30we all did it back then. So I like this too though.
- 1:05:35Like he's watching, but then from the background you can just
- 1:05:37see the Reverend's car just pull up and he's just watching him
- 1:05:40from a. Distance and again, it's giving
- 1:05:43Halloween vibes. It was giving me Halloween vibes
- 1:05:45big time. And so he's going home.
- 1:05:48And then love starts following him, has no qualms with, like,
- 1:05:53showing his entire hand. So like, we both know.
- 1:05:55We know. You know, I know you know.
- 1:05:57I know, you know, I know, you know.
- 1:06:00I got an. Eye patch.
- 1:06:01Now I got to start acting on a Swiss.
- 1:06:03Yeah, and so he starts trying to run money off the road.
- 1:06:06And again, I have to go back to Dragon Ball because why do all
- 1:06:10these people keep beefing with children?
- 1:06:12This child knows his secret identity.
- 1:06:14He's got to keep that shit protected.
- 1:06:16Like this is way too intense and also inefficient because I feel
- 1:06:20like there's got to be easier ways to take out kids.
- 1:06:23True. I'm not, I'm not going to look
- 1:06:25that up because that's suspicious, but.
- 1:06:27Yeah, it was not. It was not.
- 1:06:28Get that heat on us. Yeah, He tries to run him off
- 1:06:30the bridge and he gets stuck. And then he tries.
- 1:06:33He gets stuck on the bridge again, but then he manages to
- 1:06:35pill out. Yeah.
- 1:06:36Only problem is Marty's almost out of gas.
- 1:06:38Yeah, so he ends up into this covered part of the bridge and
- 1:06:42lo. It's a condemned bridge.
- 1:06:43Yes. And Lo has to get out because he
- 1:06:45can't drive his car into it. And he comes in there and he's
- 1:06:48saying like he was doing good things, like he saved that woman
- 1:06:50from committing suicide because that's a sin.
- 1:06:53He he saved her soul. And he goes, and I could have
- 1:06:56kept doing that if it weren't for you, you meddling little
- 1:07:00shit. And the righteousness he has
- 1:07:03when he says that is just the best acting from ever at McGill
- 1:07:07in this. Movie.
- 1:07:08This is a great scene. Like I was scared.
- 1:07:10Yeah, it was really well done. But.
- 1:07:12Then there's a tractor on the other side.
- 1:07:14It's Mr. Zimmerman. And we didn't get a good look at
- 1:07:17him and I did not check the names of the cast to verify.
- 1:07:20Did the guy from the opening. No, it looked like the deputy
- 1:07:23Pete. It did.
- 1:07:25Yeah, it didn't look like that's me.
- 1:07:26It looked like the guy from the opening that gets killed.
- 1:07:28It sounded like Pete to me, but it probably isn't.
- 1:07:34So yeah, Reverend backs out, leaves, so I'm already saved.
- 1:07:39Yeah, and the red agrees that he will, he will talk to the
- 1:07:43sheriff. And so he gets the police
- 1:07:45station and. Oh, yeah.
- 1:07:47First, though, he, he notices his like, he's not quite buying
- 1:07:51the story, but he's like, whatever, like I'm sure
- 1:07:53something weird is happening. But then he looks at the silver
- 1:07:55bullet and he notices where there's some blue paint stuffed
- 1:07:59on the side of it. It's dented and has some paint.
- 1:08:00On it. And he's like, Jane, do you know
- 1:08:02the color of Reverend Loewe's car?
- 1:08:04She's like, yeah, it's blue. And boom, there we go.
- 1:08:07So Haller agrees that he's going to go check out LO, and Howler's
- 1:08:12probably a vampire because he just kind of goes around the
- 1:08:15perimeter of the church, doesn't go in.
- 1:08:17He does go to the shed and he sees enough in there that he's
- 1:08:22ready to take LO in. He sees the car and he sees it's
- 1:08:25dented and it's got silver on the side of it.
- 1:08:28So he's like, all right, this is starting to add up.
- 1:08:30And then Lo comes out from the shadows and he says it's not his
- 1:08:33fault, and then he turns into a werewolf and he kills Howler and
- 1:08:38nobody in the town cares. No, nobody talks about it.
- 1:08:42Everybody hated him. She doesn't even get a funeral.
- 1:08:44Talking about private justice. Well, you know what private
- 1:08:49ironic justice now. Yeah.
- 1:08:52So Marty asks Red to turn his medallion into a silver bullet,
- 1:08:58and Jane offers her cross too, and he takes him 'cause that's
- 1:09:02the only thing that's consistent in the lore, apparently.
- 1:09:04Where wolf lore is much like the vampire lore, where there's a
- 1:09:07lot of commonalities but very few actual consistencies.
- 1:09:10But the only thing they found consistent was silver.
- 1:09:12They they've figured out like, OK, like he may like, 'cause
- 1:09:18he's like, how are you telling me this is happening?
- 1:09:19Like it wasn't even a full moon yesterday.
- 1:09:21But like, what if he's like that actually all the time?
- 1:09:23But the more full the moon gets, the more wolf like he becomes.
- 1:09:28Which Buffy uses that kind of lure.
- 1:09:30Oh, does it? Yeah.
- 1:09:31OK. I mean, if you think about Cuz,
- 1:09:32like that was Oz's whole thing. It's like the wolf is always in
- 1:09:35me. That's true.
- 1:09:36I forgot about that, Yeah. Well, you've been trying to
- 1:09:39forget. Yeah, I yeah, I've been
- 1:09:41successful until now. Thank you very much.
- 1:09:44Reopened that. Wound that was.
- 1:09:46Yeah, that wound's reopened, goddamn it.
- 1:09:49Sorry. Oh boy.
- 1:09:51So yeah, they're like, OK, And Marty's like, and that's what I
- 1:09:54think it's gonna happen. I think he's waiting for the
- 1:09:57full moon. That way he can come from me
- 1:09:58when he's full beast. Yep.
- 1:10:00So Red gets this bullet made and this.
- 1:10:04Is some magical shit. This right here, But this movie
- 1:10:08becomes a book for a second. Well, and here's the thing I was
- 1:10:10going to say, Stephen King got really into the art of bullet
- 1:10:13making because there is a whole scene in the novel IT where they
- 1:10:18are constructing the silver pellets to kill Pennywise.
- 1:10:21Interesting. OK, so I like the mold and the
- 1:10:24whole process of melting it down and hitting it with the hammer
- 1:10:27and all of that. I was like, he put that he put
- 1:10:30that research to good use. I I feel like it was implied
- 1:10:32that this guy was kind of magical.
- 1:10:34He knows, right? Yeah, but I mean, they said the
- 1:10:36guy, he wasn't an ordinary. Yeah, he said.
- 1:10:39He was the best in business. Then he goes because Red was
- 1:10:43like, yeah, no, my nephew's gotten really into The Lone
- 1:10:46Ranger and he goes this, you know, you don't have to make
- 1:10:49such a high quality functioning bullet.
- 1:10:51Like, you know, it's just a get a gag, A goof.
- 1:10:53You know, what would I shoot with it anyway?
- 1:10:54And the guy goes werewolf. Yeah, I like that he got it.
- 1:10:58Yeah, he was like, yeah, no, like I, I live in Tigers Mills.
- 1:11:02I get it. I know what's happening.
- 1:11:03I've just been waiting for somebody.
- 1:11:04I'm the bullet maker. Story rules.
- 1:11:06I'm not allowed to be the one to count.
- 1:11:07Yeah, no, but like I can't make my own bullets unless somebody
- 1:11:10requests the bullet. I am a side.
- 1:11:12I am a side character. A crucial 1.
- 1:11:15Still a side character. Isn't APC he has to be given the
- 1:11:17prompt, yeah. So the next full moon, it just
- 1:11:22so happened that Red won a romantic getaway for two from
- 1:11:25Publisher Clearinghouse. And since he just divorced from
- 1:11:28Sheila, he decides to give it to Nan and Bob and Jane goes, did
- 1:11:32you really win the getaway? He goes, Nope, but I did win
- 1:11:35your subscription. A popular weekend.
- 1:11:36That was cool. So, you know, like he traded his
- 1:11:39sister to something nice and he also did actually win.
- 1:11:43A party. For him.
- 1:11:46And so it's like, yeah, I mean, look, I got him out.
- 1:11:47It's full moon tonight. Let's just wait it out and we'll
- 1:11:50see what happens. And they all fall asleep on the
- 1:11:52couch and they wake up at about 2:50.
- 1:11:55Because Red was smoking a cigarette and the ash like wakes
- 1:11:59him up because it burns him. Yeah, well, that's cigarettes.
- 1:12:02They had to start making them where they couldn't, like,
- 1:12:05remain lit on their own without, you know, a drag on them because
- 1:12:09enough people did that. Died.
- 1:12:11Yeah. Dider got severely right that
- 1:12:13way. Yeah, So, yeah, they're arguing
- 1:12:18about it. And he's like, you guys need to
- 1:12:19go to bed. I'll sit down here with this gun
- 1:12:21like a Jackass. And Jane's, Jane sees the
- 1:12:25werewolf in the window and she screams, and Red doesn't see it.
- 1:12:29He looks through like he's looking pretty thoroughly.
- 1:12:31He's like, you guys, this is ridiculous.
- 1:12:33Like, I've got this silver bullet.
- 1:12:34And to make his point, he takes it out of the gun and shows it
- 1:12:37off. And then the lights are cut.
- 1:12:40In that moment, why would he not just reload the bullet?
- 1:12:43But he doesn't. He doesn't, and he's like, well,
- 1:12:45it might just be a fuse. And Jane and Marty always say,
- 1:12:48like, fucking really? Yeah, come on, dude.
- 1:12:50Like we're already, we're at this point, now he's here.
- 1:12:53And then Reverend Lowe the werewolf just Hulk smashes.
- 1:12:58Kool-aid smashes. All the way through all.
- 1:13:02The way through the wall. Yeah, I love it because he
- 1:13:06spreads. He drops the gun and the boy.
- 1:13:08The boy falls into the vent. It, yeah, it goes into the floor
- 1:13:11register and it almost feels like they have a similar set up
- 1:13:15to us, which is in areas where certain animals not to be named,
- 1:13:21might knock valuables into a floor register.
- 1:13:24We have a netting inside of them to catch.
- 1:13:26Those items and. It feels like maybe it's a
- 1:13:29similar situation there. And so Marty is down there.
- 1:13:33He's trying to dig the bullet out while Uncle Red, I would say
- 1:13:38he's fighting low, but he's just being tossed around.
- 1:13:42Yeah, I mean, he's actually putting up a decent fight
- 1:13:45because he's getting some hits in with some chairs and some,
- 1:13:47you know, weapons. But he's he's getting tossed
- 1:13:50around. He's put up a better fight than
- 1:13:52anybody so far. Yeah, and Marty's able to get
- 1:13:56the bullet out him and Jane loaded into the gun.
- 1:13:59Marty shoots him and then in the eye, in the other eye and then
- 1:14:04low is in the corner and he just D transitions.
- 1:14:07And Everett McGill talked about how long this scene took to
- 1:14:11shoot. He says hours and hours and
- 1:14:14hours because they have to. Use stop motion.
- 1:14:16Yeah, the. Stop motion makeup effects and
- 1:14:19he's like, and sometimes, you know, you get set up in the
- 1:14:20wrong position and then you have to reshoot and you've lost hours
- 1:14:23and. I can only imagine and then, but
- 1:14:27it looks cool. It looks cool and then send.
- 1:14:30Yeah, they, this is it. I I can't even remember.
- 1:14:32Like we got like an ending monologue from Jane about like.
- 1:14:36She's like, I can say it. I couldn't always say it back
- 1:14:39then, but I can say it now. I love you, Marty.
- 1:14:43Yeah, and that's it. It makes so much sense that this
- 1:14:45like I understand now your complaints about Stephen King
- 1:14:49book endings because like what the fuck is this?
- 1:14:52The man is so good at build up and scary and character
- 1:14:55development. Then he gets to the end and it's
- 1:14:57like. And that was that.
- 1:15:01And that's that and. I don't know where to go from
- 1:15:03here, folks. So you know what?
- 1:15:04Ending notwithstanding, I'm gonna keep it at a nine because
- 1:15:06this is an amazing movie. I say I'm keeping mine at 9 1/2
- 1:15:09because I just love this movie man.
- 1:15:11It's so fucking fun. Yeah, I I wish maybe we had a
- 1:15:14little bit more of a devolution in how the murders are handled,
- 1:15:18but. Yeah, it would have been a
- 1:15:20little bit interesting. Overall, just such an amazing
- 1:15:24movie. It's just fun.
- 1:15:25Yeah, yeah, it really is. Talia, she was pretty sleepy
- 1:15:29through this. We already thought.
- 1:15:30We thought she was going to be reacting more into the the yeah.
- 1:15:34But not really, no. I think she's like, you know
- 1:15:37what? This is fake.
- 1:15:37Yeah, she's like, this is fake. She was like, also, I'm going to
- 1:15:40heaven. I'm an Angel, so I'm not
- 1:15:43particularly concerned about any of this.
- 1:15:46She's like y'all, y'all will be fine.
- 1:15:48Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:15:48So I think so. I guess this is 3.
- 1:15:51She was just like meh. Misrepresent.
- 1:15:53Yeah. It's like it's, yeah.
- 1:15:56Like this is offensive. Yeah, who's Zoe's ultimate
- 1:15:59warrior? That's a tough one.
- 1:16:12I almost feel like it's Marty because we've seen Zoe go from
- 1:16:18being the hunter to being the haunted and then back to being
- 1:16:22the hunter. Yeah, because, you know, for a
- 1:16:25while she was all about getting the bugs around the house.
- 1:16:27Then Cordelia shows up in Cordelia is a Kitten and Full of
- 1:16:30kitten energy, and has realized that Zoe wanders around the
- 1:16:34house a lot and therefore it's very fun to stalk her and jump
- 1:16:37out at her, and Zoe has turned that back around on her.
- 1:16:40Lately, I was in the bathroom yesterday and like I like I was
- 1:16:44there. It was me, Scout and Cordelia.
- 1:16:46And we hear Jingling coming down the hall and Cordelia like shut
- 1:16:49her up. And then she like ran over to
- 1:16:51the side of the wall and like like shuffled around like got in
- 1:16:54her palace position. She's like, this is my chance.
- 1:16:56I'm going to get her as soon as she comes around the corner.
- 1:16:58But then as soon as Zoe it goes around the corner she freezes.
- 1:17:02Cordelia lacks in execution. Yeah, she she gets scared at the
- 1:17:07last second. You're gonna remember this but
- 1:17:09she cuz this is coming up soon for you.
- 1:17:11But she's Gohan. OK.
- 1:17:14She she becomes very Gohan. OK, I'm excited to see how that
- 1:17:18means. Yeah, I'll, I'll bring it up to
- 1:17:20you whenever it comes up to it. But yeah, OK, let's say it's Zoe
- 1:17:24or not Zoe. Let's say it's Marty.
- 1:17:26Yeah, yeah. Was this a who or a holler for
- 1:17:29Cordelia? That's tough.
- 1:17:35Holler, as in the sheriff. OK, it's like, I mean, he was a
- 1:17:43character, so holler. I have.
- 1:17:50I have a tagline suggestion ready to go.
- 1:17:54Let's go. But I need to do it before I
- 1:17:56forget it. Let's do it.
- 1:17:58The gang fights a werewolf. Oh, I like it.
- 1:18:03Yeah, I. Know he's in.
- 1:18:04It's always Sunny. Direction.
- 1:18:06I love that. That's great.
- 1:18:07OK, OK, cool. Dream sequel.
- 1:18:14Oh boy, where'd we go from here? I I want to see the fallout.
- 1:18:23I want to see what happens to this town.
- 1:18:25Maybe it becomes like a tourist town.
- 1:18:28Maybe the story of the werewolf becomes something of a legend
- 1:18:32and so people want to come and see kind of like Tremors.
- 1:18:35Oh did. What if they embrace it?
- 1:18:36Like the fair becomes like werewolf theme, like everybody's
- 1:18:39like. Oh, that's fun.
- 1:18:42This is kind of like Wolf Cop where they all like embrace,
- 1:18:44like the werewolf, like war and everything like that.
- 1:18:47Yeah. Yeah, so like it, it just
- 1:18:49becomes like an attraction and everybody's like they're looking
- 1:18:51for the werewolf. I like it.
- 1:18:53Yeah, Who's going to be the werewolf this time?
- 1:18:57Is it a character that we already know?
- 1:18:58It's got to be somebody surprising.
- 1:19:01It does. What if it's Herb?
- 1:19:05Herb. Yeah, the dad of Brody.
- 1:19:10That would be surprising. Or we could do a little bit more
- 1:19:14of a wolf cop thing and maybe his deputy Pete.
- 1:19:17Could be deputy, yeah, he just becomes a wolf.
- 1:19:20Cop then we could then we could do like a Wolf Cop crossover.
- 1:19:24I like that. Yeah.
- 1:19:26And of course, we get Red and Marty and Jane.
- 1:19:31Oh yeah. Back.
- 1:19:31And they're, they're there to solve the mystery.
- 1:19:35OK, cool. I like this.
- 1:19:36OK. Who did you relate to?
- 1:19:40I related to to Red that whole relationship of the uncle and
- 1:19:44the nephew thing like it feels true, you know?
- 1:19:49OK, I really don't know who I relate to and this.
- 1:19:54I feel like you would be the woman like sorting her pills
- 1:20:00because I've seen like how you are very careful and like
- 1:20:03organized with how you place your pills.
- 1:20:05That is true, but she's going to do something.
- 1:20:10Yeah, Yeah. Well, that's not the part you
- 1:20:12relate to. You just relate to the
- 1:20:13organization of it all. I guess that's fair, I do drink
- 1:20:17a lot of water. You do, and fancy glasses.
- 1:20:22Sometimes I'd say the fanciest of all is my Edward Turking
- 1:20:26glass. That's the one I'm thinking of.
- 1:20:28Yeah, OK. All right, what would Dom
- 1:20:31Toretto do? I think he, I mean he would have
- 1:20:36made the silver bullet still. He would have made it himself.
- 1:20:39He would have just like crushed it in his first.
- 1:20:41Yeah, no, I'm talking about the machine like the the motorcycle.
- 1:20:45The. Motorcycle yeah cuz I mean The
- 1:20:47thing is though, he doesn't do motorcycles so he that.
- 1:20:50Would be a letty. Yeah, but he's like, I can't
- 1:20:54make a motorcycle for you. Like that's Letty's thing.
- 1:20:58Yeah, so this is like he lets her step up and do her thing.
- 1:21:02Yeah. And instead of the silver
- 1:21:05bullet, he just takes, like, a silver cross necklace that he
- 1:21:08always has and he, like, puts it on the hood of his car and,
- 1:21:12like, drives like he noses. Yeah, like, yeah, he noses.
- 1:21:16And like he like the silver from that necklace, like stabs the
- 1:21:20werewolf in the heart and it kills him.
- 1:21:23Nice. Yeah, there we go.
- 1:21:25I like it. Yeah, I like it.
- 1:21:27I feel like we got more things. Do we have anything else?
- 1:21:30I don't think so actually. I do need to pull a user review
- 1:21:34though. So this is a negative review
- 1:21:37because I knew that we both were just completely charmed by this
- 1:21:40movie. OK, this is a 2 out of 10 on
- 1:21:42IMDb. Has some decent generic horror,
- 1:21:46but drags the score is offensively generic.
- 1:21:49Nice performance by Terry O Quinn.
- 1:21:51He doesn't get much screen time but displays exceptional tuft.
- 1:21:55Who is that? Is that?
- 1:21:56The sheriff OK Haim is solid. He wears a very bright
- 1:22:00sweatshirt at one point, which may be the high point of the
- 1:22:02movie. Aside from O'quinn's tuft, the
- 1:22:04girl wears a very neat sweatshirt at one point as well.
- 1:22:07Nice hair on Haim and Busey. Busey's outfits are sometimes
- 1:22:10nice, but he generally looks very goofy, which isn't
- 1:22:12surprising. The movie is much too long and
- 1:22:14should have been compressed into a 45 minute TV episode.
- 1:22:17Silver, their bullet elements are forced only they're to play
- 1:22:19to the title. Scenes really drag while rarely
- 1:22:22building substantial tension. There are a few Humira scenes,
- 1:22:25as when an old lady holds a gun. The horror scenes and effects
- 1:22:29are OK and seem typical for the era.
- 1:22:31The main effect segment is pretty sweet.
- 1:22:33Voice over scenes contrived and is somewhat bothersome.
- 1:22:36At least there's not much of it, though that fact contributes to
- 1:22:39the problems with it. Quality sung on the closing
- 1:22:41credits. There's some good stuff in the
- 1:22:43movie, but it's just way too long.
- 1:22:45Wow, this is one of the things where like it makes you realize
- 1:22:50that some people like watch movies completely different than
- 1:22:53you. Yeah, this was reviewed in 2010.
- 1:22:55OK, just to have a little bit more context on the time, but I,
- 1:22:59I, it's interesting because I normally pay a lot more
- 1:23:03attention to costuming and wardrobe and I didn't pay as
- 1:23:05much attention to it in this one.
- 1:23:07No, it felt natural to me, Everything.
- 1:23:09Did you know it didn't stand out or anything like that?
- 1:23:12It seemed. Like the hair stylings or
- 1:23:14anything like that too, you know, it wasn't like obscenely
- 1:23:17of its time. Like it just felt natural.
- 1:23:21I, I don't, I, I feel like a lot of the scenes had tension for
- 1:23:25me. Yeah.
- 1:23:27Like, I mean, especially with the Reverend and Marty scenes,
- 1:23:30like with that whole chase segment and the moment with Jane
- 1:23:33and the Reverend and the the shed.
- 1:23:38But you know, like I, I don't, I, I don't know what could have
- 1:23:43been done differently to make this a little bit more
- 1:23:45interesting for you. Yeah.
- 1:23:47It doesn't seem like the person is necessarily turned off by
- 1:23:49werewolf movies, but. Yeah, it just seems like maybe
- 1:23:51it just wasn't like a movie for them, which is unfortunate
- 1:23:54because I think it is such a fun little movie.
- 1:23:56But you know, if, yeah, I guess if it just doesn't do it for
- 1:24:02you, it just doesn't do it for you, you know?
- 1:24:03Yeah, it's just one of those things, like, I can't really
- 1:24:05argue what you're saying because, I mean, that's how you
- 1:24:07felt about it. But yeah, I I just got like I
- 1:24:10had a completely different experience watching.
- 1:24:11It myself, it seemed like they were distracted, which it's, I
- 1:24:14mean, we talked about being distracted about things in it
- 1:24:17ourselves. So it's not that's true.
- 1:24:20You know that that's not necessarily out of line.
- 1:24:22It's just interesting that the distraction took away from their
- 1:24:25enjoyment of it. Yes, Yeah.
- 1:24:27OK. Well, that's interesting to have
- 1:24:30that perspective. Let's see what everybody else
- 1:24:32thought about it. Yes.
- 1:24:34So we do have listener reviews. We have one, I don't know.
- 1:24:37We actually have two. Something came in.
- 1:24:39Oh, it's from Joe Frecotron, who says one of my favorite werewolf
- 1:24:43movies by far, Gary Busey, is that uncle that everybody has.
- 1:24:48Yes, exactly. That's the thing that like he,
- 1:24:50he is like a relatable type of character, everybody.
- 1:24:52Has that uncle that everybody has or is?
- 1:24:55Exactly. And again we have Cubesafes says
- 1:24:59Busey plays a great drunk uncle. I replied to him that he plays,
- 1:25:04in my opinion, the best drunk. Uncle yes, I cannot, I cannot
- 1:25:08picture anybody else in that role.
- 1:25:11I can't either, man I cannot. It was perfect casting for him.
- 1:25:14Like, I didn't know what to expect, but he did it.
- 1:25:18He did the damn thing. Yeah, it's just, it's, it's so
- 1:25:21charming, man. This movie, the characters, the
- 1:25:24portrayals, everything was so well done.
- 1:25:26I just love it so much. That relationship was definitely
- 1:25:30a huge part of it, though. I feel like if that didn't have,
- 1:25:34if it didn't have that going for it, it may have lost some of its
- 1:25:36magic. But yeah, like, overall, I love
- 1:25:39it. I had a great time with it.
- 1:25:41I'm glad we talked about it. And you know what, we're going
- 1:25:43to have a great time with and be glad we talked about next week.
- 1:25:46Final destination. Yes, the Final Destination AKA
- 1:25:50part 4, AKA the one in 3D AKA the one that we will be
- 1:25:55defending. That is right.
- 1:25:57Be prepared for that. Still not streaming anywhere,
- 1:26:00but you can rent it on YouTube, Google TV, Apple TV, Fandango at
- 1:26:03home or Prime or go out. To Walmart and get a four pack
- 1:26:07for $4. Or whatever.
- 1:26:09They might have a full 6 pack now.
- 1:26:11They might, yeah. They get a six pack, 6 pack and
- 1:26:13a six pack. Oh yeah of whatever drink of
- 1:26:15choice. It doesn't have to be alcohol,
- 1:26:17although alcohol's fun. Yeah, could be yoohoo.
- 1:26:20Yeah. You know, everybody loves
- 1:26:21Yoohoo. Yeah, you can't have you.
- 1:26:25I'm sorry. But yeah, I'm.
- 1:26:28I'm excited for that. It'll be fun.
- 1:26:29It it's, it's a good time, yeah. So, OK, all right, so we want to
- 1:26:39give a shout out to our bubbies over on the Patreon.
- 1:26:41Especially because they voted for this movie.
- 1:26:43This time, Yeah. Thank you guys for picking this
- 1:26:44one. This is a great one.
- 1:26:45I can't even remember what the other one was.
- 1:26:46Oh yeah, it's Predator 2 because it.
- 1:26:47Was Battle of the Beast Battle of the Busey?
- 1:26:49Yeah, we were. We were talking about Gary
- 1:26:51Busey. One we were father this one.
- 1:26:54So yeah, we want to thank you guys.
