- 0:11Hello, friends. It's Sean.
- 0:12Here it is, Thursday, it's the 29th of August.
- 0:16And today we are going to be reading the final chapter, the
- 0:20very end of this first letter that Paul writes to the
- 0:24Corinthian church. And this, of course, is like
- 0:27most of Paul's letters that ends with final instructions to his
- 0:31friends and then a greeting that of course, is filled with love
- 0:35and kindness and sentimentality, particularly because Paul knew
- 0:38this church so well, he he gathered them together.
- 0:41He first preached and converted them.
- 0:43And now from a distance, he writes this to encourage them.
- 0:47And as you read it, I pray that you and I will be encouraged by
- 0:52these words because this church that started there, well, it
- 0:56just continued to grow and to spread.
- 1:00Here we are in whatever corner of the world you are right now.
- 1:04We are a product of this growing church that this Holy Spirit
- 1:08just inspired and grew. So these words of encouragement,
- 1:12well, really, friend, they are for you.
- 1:15They are for you indeed. So let us read together this
- 1:18final chapter, First Corinthians chapter 16.
- 1:33Now regarding your question about the money being collected
- 1:37for God's people in Jerusalem, you should follow the same
- 1:40procedure I've given to the churches in Galatia.
- 1:43On the first day of each week, you should each put aside a
- 1:47portion of the money you have earned.
- 1:49Don't wait until I get there and then try to collect it all at
- 1:52once. When I come, I will write
- 1:55letters of recommendation for the messengers you choose to
- 1:58deliver your gift to Jerusalem, and if it seems appropriate for
- 2:02me to go along, they can travel with me.
- 2:06I'm coming to visit you after I've been to Macedonia, for I'm
- 2:10planning to travel through Macedonia.
- 2:13Perhaps I will stay a while with you, possibly all winter, and
- 2:17then you can send me on my way to my next destination.
- 2:21This time I don't want to make just a short visit and then go
- 2:25right on. I want to come and stay a while
- 2:28if the Lord will let me. In the meantime, I'll be staying
- 2:32here at Ephesus until the festival of Pentecost.
- 2:36There is a wide open door for a great work here, although many
- 2:40oppose me. When Timothy comes, don't
- 2:44intimidate him. He is doing the Lord's work just
- 2:48as I am. Don't let anyone treat him with
- 2:51contempt. Send him on his way with your
- 2:54blessing. When he returns to me, I expect
- 2:57him to come with the other believers.
- 2:59Now about our brother Apollos, I urged him to visit you with the
- 3:05other believers, but he was not willing to go right now.
- 3:09He will see you later when he has the opportunity.
- 3:12Be on guard, stand firm in your faith, be courageous, be strong
- 3:19and do everything with love. You know that Stefanus and his
- 3:25household were the first of the harvest of believers in Greece,
- 3:28and they are spending their lives in service to God's
- 3:31people. I urge you, dear brothers and
- 3:34sisters, to submit to them and others like them who serve with
- 3:38such devotion. I'm very glad that Stefanus,
- 3:42Fortunus, and Archaicus have come here.
- 3:46They have been providing the help you weren't here to give
- 3:49me. They have been a wonderful
- 3:51encouragement to me as they have been to you.
- 3:55You must show your appreciation to all who serve so well.
- 3:59The churches here in the province of Asia send greetings
- 4:02in the Lord, as do Aquila and Priscilla and all the others who
- 4:07gather in their home for church meetings.
- 4:10All the brothers and sisters here send greetings to you.
- 4:14Greet each other with a sacred kiss.
- 4:17Here is my greeting in my own handwriting.
- 4:22Paul, if anyone does not love the Lord, that person is cursed.
- 4:28Our Lord come. May the grace of the Lord Jesus
- 4:33be with you. My love to all of you in Christ
- 4:37Jesus Lord, I thank you for this
- 4:49encouragement from Paul to his friends.
- 4:52And I thank you for these words that echo through time to us.
- 4:56That we are to be on our guard, that we are to stand firm in the
- 5:01faith that you want us to be courageous and to be strong.
- 5:07And most importantly, to do everything with love, because as
- 5:13you have taught so clearly that nothing that we do amounts to
- 5:18anything unless we do it with Your love.
- 5:23So, Lord, I pray that in the uncertain, shifting sands of
- 5:27this changeable world that we would place our feet firmly on
- 5:32You, our rock, and that in You our identity, firm and set as
- 5:39Your beloved child, can inspire us to love, knowing that we are
- 5:47loved and that we are your treasures.
- 5:52Ah, we love you, and we pray that you could use us in the
- 5:55service of you and your Kingdom both now and every day.
- 6:02In Your name we pray Jesus, Amen.
