- 0:003 lifelong friends, 6 trusty balls and endless NFL takes.
- 0:05Welcome to three guys 6 Balls NFL podcast.
- 0:08Welcome to episode 52 of Three guys 6 Balls NFL podcast.
- 0:11I'm your host Joel and I'm here with my two Co hosts Will and
- 0:14Avery. The NFL Combine is officially
- 0:17over, and if you watched it, hopefully you didn't think it
- 0:19was as boring as Jets head coach Aaron Glenn did all.
- 0:23Right. Yeah, yeah.
- 0:25Pause, pause, pause because I've got some thoughts about this.
- 0:27Matter of fact, later today. It's a little bit of a behind
- 0:30the curtain here. We're talking about draft
- 0:31winners. Honorable mention Aaron Glenn,
- 0:33draft winner or combine winner. Excuse me?
- 0:36You know how long and boring that is.
- 0:39And that dude for The Jets, like I even in The Jets, this is
- 0:42boring. I we need more help than anybody
- 0:45in the league for like a generation now and I still find
- 0:49this crap boring. I think it was ballsy him to
- 0:52fall asleep there. Hey in Lucas Oil Stadium.
- 0:54I think he's a winner for that. Also 52.
- 0:58That means we've been doing this for one year guys.
- 1:00Happy one year anniversary. Oh shoot, you know, I was
- 1:03thinking about that today actually, because the, I think
- 1:06our first episode was released on like the 13th of March.
- 1:10And so that doesn't make sense because this is the 52nd
- 1:13episode, but we still have like 2 weeks before we get there, so
- 1:17I'm not sure how that works. But I don't know how to count.
- 1:19Yeah, that's all. Yeah, maybe we skipped an
- 1:22episode or two in there somewhere.
- 1:23I don't know. Wouldn't that be funny?
- 1:27Yeah, yeah, all right. But anyways, since the NFL
- 1:29Combine just happened, so we decided to change the plan a
- 1:32little bit for today's episode. So what we're going to do today
- 1:35is we're going to go over some NFL Combine winners and losers,
- 1:37as we'll mentioned. And then with whatever time we
- 1:40have left, we're going to get into some more scattering
- 1:42reports for you guys today. So we'll just go ahead and get
- 1:45started with the winners and losers from the NFL scouting
- 1:48combine. So Avery, why don't you start us
- 1:51off, pick a winner for us, and we'll just, we'll just take
- 1:53turns. Pick a winner for us, Avery.
- 1:56I'm going to start with the obvious.
- 1:57You guys know, I'm going to talk about Kenyan Sadiq.
- 1:59Dude is a legend, wild athlete. I think he just kind of to me,
- 2:05like, I mean, as an Oregon Ducks fan, none of that surprised me.
- 2:10I didn't, I maybe I didn't know he was quite that fast or could
- 2:13jump quite that high, but I knew he could.
- 2:16I mean, in the same breath, I kind of have to also mention Eli
- 2:19Stowers. I mean, that guy, to me, he just
- 2:23seems like a big receiver. It really just like a a receiver
- 2:28that just got a little too bit too big.
- 2:30And his coaches were like, we're going to have you play tight
- 2:32end. That being said, I think Sadiq
- 2:34is more of a true tight end than Stours.
- 2:38I think he, you know, can easily be put into blocking schemes a
- 2:41lot easier than Stours. But to me, Sadiq, I mean that to
- 2:46me that solidified. Yeah, he is.
- 2:47He is the true #1 followed by Stowers.
- 2:51But I feel like I'm like why is this man playing tight end?
- 2:54He should clearly just be a big receiver.
- 2:57Yeah, I think Kenyan Sadiq's performance at the NFL Combine,
- 3:00I think that will secure his spot as a top 15 draft pick in
- 3:04my opinion. But I do want to touch on
- 3:06Vanderbilt tight end Eli Stowers as well, because that dude is
- 3:09also an athletic freak at tight end.
- 3:11So Sadiq scored a 94 athleticism score at the combine.
- 3:16Eli Sowers had a score of 90 at the combine, so he was right
- 3:19behind Sadiq. He ran a 45140.
- 3:22He had a 1.59 seconds, 10 yard split, 45 1/2 inch vertical and
- 3:27an 11 foot 3 inch broad jump, which is insane.
- 3:31Eli Saris is a guy that's been on my radar for a while because
- 3:34I've been looking at tight ends a lot because the Buccaneers
- 3:36need a tight end. And so he was one of the guys
- 3:39that really stood out to me when I was watching his tape.
- 3:41Eli Sowers is a former quarterback who started playing
- 3:44tight end in 2023 actually. So he hasn't been playing the
- 3:47position for very long, but I think Sowers uses his
- 3:49quarterback background to his advantage.
- 3:51He's very intelligent with the way he runs routes because as a
- 3:54former quarterback, he knows where his quarterback wants him
- 3:57to be. And so he's he's seen everything
- 4:00from the quarterback's perspective and he uses every
- 4:02bit of his knowledge from the tight end position that he had
- 4:06as a quarterback. So I think for teams that miss
- 4:09out on Kenyon Sadiq in the first round, Eli Stowers is going to
- 4:11be a great second option for them in the second round.
- 4:14Kenyon Sadiq set the record for tight ends and the vertical jump
- 4:17at 43 1/2, and in one minute of time, what goes by and Stowers
- 4:23comes in and jumps an entire. It's like, Oh my gosh, come on.
- 4:25If I were Sadiq, I would still say it.
- 4:28At one time I held the record. I would still throw it in there.
- 4:31It doesn't matter. It was one minute only.
- 4:33I would still say it. All right, Will pick a winner
- 4:37for us. Who's your 2026 NFL Combine
- 4:40winner? I'm going with Jeff Caldwell,
- 4:43wide receiver. From Cincinnati.
- 4:45From Cincinnati. Dude, that dude, Isn't he like
- 4:4865? He's yeah 6566 right now.
- 4:51I don't know what his actual height measurement came in at.
- 4:5440 yard dash, 4316 foot five, 216 lbs.
- 4:59Ran a 4314042 inch vertical leap and 11 foot 2 bra jump.
- 5:04Set the record. A 99 athleticism score.
- 5:08Yeah, he didn't set your records.
- 5:10So I'm talking about my next guy, the he's a, he's a day
- 5:13three wide receiver. Unfortunately, and it's because
- 5:16of his team production. He ended up with 478 yards this
- 5:18season. Their top receiver had 674
- 5:21receiving yards and so no one on their team had very many
- 5:24receiving yards. He was third in his team with
- 5:27478. He was second 132 receptions.
- 5:30He had one touchdown every four receptions this last season.
- 5:34He's an absolute freak athlete who can catch the ball very
- 5:37well, but played for a team that didn't utilize ball thrown that
- 5:42much. That's the reason that Brendan
- 5:44Sorsby's leaving Cincinnati and going somewhere.
- 5:47I don't know where he ended up going, but they they all left
- 5:50Cincinnati. And so Jeff Caldwell kind of
- 5:53went under the radar. 1st 99 athleticism score first over
- 5:56receivers, but his production score was only a 68.
- 6:00And so so he'll be a day three receiver that you're going to
- 6:03have to to train up and to get going.
- 6:06But he's got real size, real athleticism.
- 6:09And when you are looking for for that in a draft where most wide
- 6:13receivers, at least athleticism wise, most of their first round
- 6:17wide receivers either didn't participate or didn't do well
- 6:20when they did participate. And so there's a real opening
- 6:23for athletic wide receivers right now.
- 6:25And Jeff Caldwell showed up in a big way.
- 6:27Yeah, I think one thing we've learned from the previous NFL
- 6:31drafts is if you can run fast as a receiver, you're getting
- 6:34drafted around higher than you probably actually should be.
- 6:37So I think Caldwell actually actually boosted himself up at
- 6:40least one round in the draft because he ran a fast 40 time.
- 6:44So good for him. Yeah.
- 6:46So I'm. I'm going to go with kind of the
- 6:48an obvious one here. This is Ohio State linebacker
- 6:51Sonny Styles. Because of his performance.
- 6:54Yeah. Yeah.
- 6:55Because of his performance at the NFL combine, I think Sonny
- 6:57Styles secured himself as a top five pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
- 7:02Every GM who's drafting after the Raiders should remember the
- 7:05words of Sonny Weaver, junior from the movie Draft Day, Vontae
- 7:08Mack. No matter what.
- 7:10Forget positional value. Forget whatever position you
- 7:13need more. If you or any of the GMs
- 7:16drafting after the Raiders, it'd be Sonny Styles.
- 7:18No matter what. He's an absolute freak of an
- 7:21athlete who will be a centerpiece of a defense for the
- 7:23next 10 plus years. He absolutely crushed the NFL
- 7:26combine. That dude is just an insane
- 7:29athlete. I saw that his player comparison
- 7:32that they gave him on the, I think it was Rich Eisen or
- 7:34whoever the other guy was, the Megatron, Calvin Johnson was his
- 7:39player comparison. They gave him like that is
- 7:41freaking wild. Wild.
- 7:44Especially just for what? No, go ahead.
- 7:48Wait, who? Gave him.
- 7:49Comparison. I can't remember who it was.
- 7:51This is someone on NFL Network. OK.
- 7:53I was going to say because somebody on NFL.com compared
- 7:56Denzel Boston to Pook and Akua, so you can only take that.
- 7:59With oh, yeah, no, I'm not seeing any of these as real.
- 8:02I just see the fact that they would even dare put up Calvin
- 8:06Johnson for this guy is just like just shows like, OK, the
- 8:09whole point of Sonny Styles is that he is kind of a defensive
- 8:12jackknife. Like he can do kind of whatever.
- 8:14And so, I mean, he was playing safety a year ago, and I mean,
- 8:18maybe two years ago. But at this point, it's like,
- 8:20OK, like you said, you know, no matter what, you know, you got
- 8:24to pick Sonny Styles. Oh yeah, Will, sorry, what were
- 8:27you going to say? You know, I don't remember
- 8:29anymore, so obviously wasn't that important.
- 8:32OK, all right. Avery will give us another
- 8:34winner of the 2026 NFL Combine. I'm going to go with the I've
- 8:38got some other ones that I think are more obvious, but I'll leave
- 8:41one of those to Will for sure. But I thought Dylan Theeman
- 8:46another word. Hey, he's.
- 8:47One of the guys I had too, I thought.
- 8:49He crushed it. I thought he crushed it.
- 8:51I don't know what the deal is, what's in the water, but the
- 8:54white boys are making a return to the secondary.
- 8:58And it's wild to considering you see a lot of these records being
- 9:03broken like every year. It's kind of like the Olympics
- 9:05where it just kind of shows like, man, like so is everyone
- 9:08just from a previous four years just like not as strong or fast
- 9:12or good or whatever. And part of this is, you know,
- 9:14you have better technology. There's also nil money.
- 9:18So you can use this to, you know, better prep yourself, get
- 9:21better trainers, get better, you know, basically coaching and
- 9:23stuff on the side, you know, to get yourself ready.
- 9:26Even with that, these white boys are still making a a comeback
- 9:30And it's it's wild to see Dylan Theatoman is a freak athlete.
- 9:34Another one of those guys that just had older brothers that
- 9:37were older and bigger that could kind of, you know, put the pain
- 9:41on him to, you know, get him to that next level.
- 9:43But I mean, I, I thought he was insane at Purdue.
- 9:47He was crazy good at Oregon, ended the game.
- 9:50Penn State whiteout game. Dude's a freak.
- 9:53And I I think he's going to be a great, great safety in the
- 9:57league. Have you guys sort of the CCU,
- 10:00you know what that? Is yeah, the the Caucasian
- 10:02Collision unit. Yeah.
- 10:05With Thieaman and Bryce Becher, Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:09He's, I think Dylan Thieaman is absolutely a winner from the NFL
- 10:12combine. He's one of those players who
- 10:13was like a fringe first round player leading up to the
- 10:16combine, but after his performance, I think he secured
- 10:18himself a spot as a first round pick.
- 10:21We see this every year where players in that range to
- 10:24possibly go in the first but might go in the second, then
- 10:26they run a fast 40 time and because they run a fast 40 time,
- 10:30they get drafted in the first round.
- 10:31Like you saw it with Matthew Golden last year, you saw it
- 10:34with Xavier Worthy the year before.
- 10:36So Dylan Thiemans 43540 time secured him a spot in the first
- 10:40round for sure. All right, well, give us your
- 10:41second winner from the 2026 combine.
- 10:43I have Arkansas quarterback Halen Green.
- 10:47I don't know if you saw any of his stuff.
- 10:50Again, this is a late 2nd or late second day, early 3rd day
- 10:54guy. Fastest 40 time from a
- 10:56quarterbacks actually post the second fastest quarterback forty
- 11:00time since 2003 behind Michael Vick.
- 11:04And again, it's at the Columbine.
- 11:05People are like Robert Griffin at the Columbine specifically
- 11:09was a 43640. He had a 43 1/2 vertical jump
- 11:14and 11 foot 2 broad jump which are both records for quarterback
- 11:18at the combine. 97 athleticism score, 6 foot six £227.34 and
- 11:25three quarter arm length 9 7/8 hand size.
- 11:29The dude is an athletic freak. The problem is because he can't
- 11:31play football like that's his actual prime time.
- 11:35He is an absolute athletic freak and and there's going to be
- 11:39Arkansas fans. I'm sure Tim will have an
- 11:40opinion on that. There's going to be Arkansas
- 11:42fans that are going to be like, oh, he's so good.
- 11:44He's the best. Listen, Arkansas themselves are
- 11:49very hit and miss on this guy on set.
- 11:51Half like I'm half don't. When he can get outside the
- 11:54pocket and run. He does very well.
- 11:57When they keep him inside the pocket, his decision making not
- 12:00good. And so he'll have a lot to learn
- 12:03on the field, which is why he'll be a a day 2 day three guy.
- 12:07But athletically, it's almost like I'm going to taste some
- 12:10hill where he's incredibly athletic.
- 12:13Can could move at six foot six. You can move around.
- 12:15You put him at tight end, you can hand the ball and he's a
- 12:18he's a a multi threat athlete. I don't know how well he can
- 12:21catch, but he just needs to learn how to, you know, play
- 12:24quarterback. And somebody asked him at the
- 12:26combine. Somebody asked him, Hey, what
- 12:29are your thoughts about moving to wide receiver?
- 12:30And he full on gave it the I'm a quarterback.
- 12:34Next question. OK, well, flexibility is not
- 12:38you're going to have to have some of that.
- 12:39But Taylon Green, I actually would not hate the Rams taking
- 12:43him day three. Day 2, definitely not day one.
- 12:46So I think what I'm taking from this Will is that NFL.com has
- 12:49his player complicit as Lamar Jackson.
- 12:51Is that right? Probably because, because why
- 12:55not? Because let's just pick the only
- 12:58other guy that we know that can run the football and throw it.
- 13:00I think coming out of college, I think Josh Allen might be a
- 13:03better comparison. He played in a Shrine game and
- 13:05he can throw a deep ball very well and it sometimes hits its
- 13:09mark. But that was Josh Allen's big
- 13:11thing. Coming out of college's accuracy
- 13:13was not as good. Has an arm and the ability to do
- 13:16the athletic ability to do whatever he wants.
- 13:18Just has to dial in the accuracy and it's the same thing with
- 13:21with Taylor Green is that he has the arm talent to throw the ball
- 13:24all over the field. He is athletic enough to run
- 13:27away from you and especially in A43640 time he just has to, you
- 13:32know, dial in the the the IQ and the decision making, the
- 13:35accuracy. I'm going to put that comp on
- 13:37the Internet and you're going to get absolutely roasted.
- 13:40Do it, Do it. Yeah, give a about the Internet.
- 13:45I'm going to go with his teammate at Arkansas, which is
- 13:49Arkansas running back Mike Washington Junior.
- 13:51He had a 92 athleticism score and Mike Washington Junior is a
- 13:56six one 223 LB running back who just ran for over 1000 yards
- 14:00last season while averaging 6.4 yards per carry.
- 14:03He's got the speed, he's got the size, and when you watch his
- 14:06tape, all he does is just make people miss.
- 14:08He's got the speed to run by people, he's got the size to run
- 14:12through tackles. Before the combine, I thought he
- 14:14would be a day three pick, but I think he really put himself on
- 14:16the radar with several teams with his combine performance and
- 14:19I think he moved himself into the day 2 conversation.
- 14:23Not saying that he will for sure be drafted on day 2, but I think
- 14:26he at least put himself in that conversation.
- 14:28So he's definitely going to be drafted higher than he was going
- 14:32to be before his performance at the combine.
- 14:34I think a lot of people were expecting him to run fast, but I
- 14:37don't think they were expecting him to run that fast.
- 14:40So. And I don't know if you guys
- 14:41watched the video of him after he ran his forty time, but he
- 14:46was like, yeah, that was awesome to see.
- 14:48Like he was like, yeah, I just, I just made some money for my
- 14:51family. Like that was cool.
- 14:52That was cool to see. So good for him.
- 14:55All right. Well, do you guys have any other
- 14:57winners you want to mention before we move on to the losers?
- 15:01I think I'm amazed that Jeremiah Love has not been brought up.
- 15:05Maybe it's because it's obvious, but I think, I mean, it was
- 15:08already the number one running back, but I think that kind of
- 15:11cemented it in just OK, this guy is, you know, he will be the
- 15:16first running back off the board.
- 15:17I thought he just crushed it. I thought he looked healthy too.
- 15:21Not that he's not going to look healthy, but just more just
- 15:24robust because that's usually my main knock on running backs is
- 15:27that, you know, it's, I don't know, it's, it's like a little
- 15:30sports car, a little German engineered sports car where it's
- 15:33like, yeah, I mean, you can get, it might be expensive to fix.
- 15:37You know, I don't know how reliable it's going to be, you
- 15:40know, if you got a big workload. But I, I thought he looked
- 15:42great. So I just want to throw his name
- 15:45out there. The reason I didn't pick him or
- 15:47bring him up is because there was other players like Sonny
- 15:50Styles who moved themselves up the draft more.
- 15:52Because when you look at mocked outs before the combine,
- 15:55Jeremiah Love was already being mocked to like the Saints at 8
- 15:58or the Chiefs at 9. And now he's still being mocked
- 16:01to the Saints at 8 or the Chiefs at 9.
- 16:03Like it's he's in the exact same position that he was before.
- 16:06But Sonny Styles was a guy who is being projected to go to like
- 16:10the Buccaneers at 15. And there's no chance of that
- 16:12happening now because he's going to be in the top five.
- 16:16Like for sure, in my opinion, he's a top five pick.
- 16:18So I think Sonny Styles is a guy who moved himself up the draft
- 16:22board versus a guy like Jeremiah Love.
- 16:24I think he just kind of put himself right in the same
- 16:26position that he already was at. So I think he had a good
- 16:29combine. I just didn't pick him as a
- 16:31winner for that reason. All right, so let's move on to
- 16:33the losers. Avery, who's your draft combine
- 16:36loser? I wasn't.
- 16:39I've got a, I've got a couple. But I do want to say that I
- 16:42didn't think that anyone really, I mean, I don't know, like
- 16:46looking at some of these speed comparisons between certain
- 16:49guys, like, oh, Kenyan City go, he's faster than Justin
- 16:52Jefferson. He's faster than Bijan Robinson
- 16:54kind of thing where it's like, OK, well, more than anything,
- 16:59it's like, OK, yeah, he might be faster, but these other two guys
- 17:02are proven commodities in the NFL.
- 17:04Like they So it's almost like, OK, so on one hand you could
- 17:09say, oh, look, this guy's even faster than them.
- 17:12But then you can all say like, but if their speeds aren't that
- 17:15great and they're still that successful, maybe the speed
- 17:19isn't as important. Maybe this metric isn't as
- 17:23important as as, you know, we're we're making it out to be now.
- 17:25It's the draft combine. We're not seeing guys going up
- 17:28against different guys. It's just really just, you know,
- 17:31physicals. But there's plenty of guys I
- 17:33mean that have, you know, I mean, I remember Chris Johnson
- 17:36back in what, 2009, 10, whatever dude was was nuts.
- 17:42He had like a 428. But I remember he had one or two
- 17:46insane years and then just fell off.
- 17:49And I goes back to my running back issue.
- 17:51But for the most part, a lot of these things, I see them and I'm
- 17:53like, OK, yeah, you might not be able to do as good here, there.
- 17:58I'm going to throw in a basketball reference.
- 18:00Kevin Durant was just a lanky slenderman in the NBA combine.
- 18:05I mean, he came in, Dude couldn't do like a single
- 18:08freaking bench press. I mean, is it noodle?
- 18:12Arms. That's easier to work out.
- 18:15Exactly. And that's my point is, oh, this
- 18:17guy doesn't even work out. It's like I'm still taking him,
- 18:20you know, no one want, I know now I'm still taking him.
- 18:22So it's, it's one of those things where like I look at some
- 18:24of these and I'm like, yeah, that was a negative.
- 18:27It might hurt you a little bit draft stock wise, but it's the
- 18:31same time like we're looking at film, we're looking at how good
- 18:33you can do doing the thing we need you to do.
- 18:37That being said, Emmett Johnson running back out of Nebraska.
- 18:40I don't know why he did that little agility drill.
- 18:42It definitely screwed him. I, I, I saw somewhere there was
- 18:47a tweet from some guy, Ryan Heath basically said it let me
- 18:52just pull this up. It was the only running back to
- 18:55even participate in the three cone drill.
- 18:57The only guys that have been drafted since 2010 that were
- 19:02below his, none of them had been taken before day three.
- 19:07Basically just saying like, K, this was probably just not a
- 19:09smart, smart thing to do. I mean, it's kind of the same
- 19:12deal with a lot of these, you know, like downs, you're not
- 19:16participating as much. A lot of guys, you know, the top
- 19:18guys, like, I'm not going to bother doing that.
- 19:20Why would I even risk it? You know, it's like I'm already
- 19:24going to be a top pick. I don't need to do this.
- 19:26All I risk is, you know, going down.
- 19:29So maybe this is something he felt like he needed to prove,
- 19:31maybe just had worked on it. But I thought that was
- 19:34disappointing. And I think that's because of
- 19:36that. I think it's going to hurt him
- 19:39even further. For sure, yeah.
- 19:40Going into the combine, I think he was.
- 19:42A lot of people were putting him as RV 3 in the class, and I
- 19:46don't know if that's the case anymore.
- 19:47So I definitely think that hurt him.
- 19:49All right, Will, who's your NFL Columbine loser?
- 19:51I'm just, I'm just taking the same vein here with Carnell
- 19:53Tate. He only ran the 40 and he didn't
- 19:56have to and it just hurt him. That's all it did.
- 19:59And we didn't do the cone drills and the shuttles into the jump
- 20:01didn't do either jumps. He ran a 453 when, whether
- 20:05reasonable or not, everyone's expecting him to run in the mid
- 20:08fours and he just didn't. He ran a 453 twice and
- 20:13everyone's looking at him like. But at the same time, that's the
- 20:16same speed that Des Red or not Des CD Red, I mean, Devonta
- 20:20Adams ran that. You could just run down the list
- 20:23of of #1 wide receivers on teams that ran the same speed.
- 20:27So I almost feel as if we are looking at what we expect and we
- 20:33don't find that. And so we're putting too much
- 20:36stock into it because what matters more to me is the film
- 20:40he puts up. We've already talked about
- 20:41Cardinal Tate and we've already, we already said the same thing.
- 20:44Here is this year's Ohio State wide receiver who's going to
- 20:48lead A-Team quietly, right? Just just this year's guy.
- 20:52I don't think to me, I don't think this 453 hurts him that
- 20:56bad, in my opinion. But I'm not AGM or Scout, and
- 20:59I'm not the one sitting there making a decision.
- 21:01Did it help him at all? No, absolutely not.
- 21:03I do think it makes him a loser because for I was a combine, not
- 21:07a loser in life, obviously because he didn't do anything to
- 21:09boost his stock, so he just have to hurt his stock.
- 21:13But yeah, I I don't like the decision he made.
- 21:16He didn't have to do it. Although I wish, I do wish they
- 21:20would have a more uniform across the board.
- 21:23You either all are or you all aren't.
- 21:26I don't know either. Or like you do all of the things
- 21:29or you do none of the things per person.
- 21:31And so like, if you're going to run you, you should, you have to
- 21:33jump and jump and cones and everything.
- 21:36Quit picking and choosing based off of your strengths.
- 21:38Because as a, as some of you sitting here doing these
- 21:42scouting reports, I look at that.
- 21:44I'm like, OK, so you chose not to do these other things because
- 21:47you assumed you were going to do bad.
- 21:49So you were unwilling to do hard things.
- 21:51They're going to make you, they're going to put you out
- 21:54there as possibly doing bad that I'm judging that a whole lot
- 21:58more than I'm judging you doing it and not getting a time that I
- 22:01think you should get in my. Opinion yeah, I think the
- 22:04difference for Carnell Tate running of the 453 and like a
- 22:07guy like CD Lamb is, I don't think it was a concern for CD
- 22:11Lamb going into the draft where he couldn't separate on deep
- 22:14routes. But that is a concern with
- 22:16Carnell Tate. So I think that's one of the
- 22:18reasons why he's a loser in that situation, because teams wanted
- 22:22to see him run like a four four or even like a 445.
- 22:25And I know there's not that much difference between the two
- 22:27numbers, but if he would have ran in the four fours, I think
- 22:30those concerns might have gone away a little bit.
- 22:33But now that he ran a 453, I think that concern of him not
- 22:36being able to separate on deep routes is still there.
- 22:40So although he can he can win the jump balls like he's a jump
- 22:43ball winner, those concerns of him not being able to separate
- 22:46down the field are still going to be part of his process
- 22:50throughout this whole the whole draft process.
- 22:53So I think that's kind of the difference between him and like
- 22:55a guy like CD Lamb. For my loser of the combine, I'm
- 22:58going with Texas A&M edge Cashius Howell.
- 23:01I think Cashius Howell was a loser at the combine simply
- 23:04because of his arm measurements. Nobody talked about it because
- 23:07they were too focused on Ruben Baynes arm measurements which
- 23:09measured at 30 7/8 inches. But how was another guy who was
- 23:13rumored to have short arms and the measurements confirmed it?
- 23:17His arms are even shorter than Baynes measuring at 30 and 1/4
- 23:20inch. How?
- 23:21It was frequently mocked in the first round, but honestly
- 23:24there's a strong chance that he falls to the second round after
- 23:27his arm measurements because they are significantly shorter
- 23:30than Ruben Baynes arms and his arms are already concerned for a
- 23:33lot of teams. He had an.
- 23:34Overall average. Going at the combine, he had a
- 23:37good forty time. He had the best 10 yard split
- 23:39among the edge players, but his vert and his broad jump weren't
- 23:42impressive at all. I don't think his test numbers
- 23:44really matter that much just because of how short his arms
- 23:48are. So really I think he's just a
- 23:50loser because his arms were significantly shorter than Ruben
- 23:54Bain's arms, who everyone is already concerned about how
- 23:57short his arms are. So I think really it's just his.
- 24:00How short his arms are is why he's a loser of the NFL Combine.
- 24:04Have nothing to add there. I I agree completely with what
- 24:07you said. Yep.
- 24:09All right, Avery, give us the second loser.
- 24:14You're not going to like this. I put makai lemon.
- 24:19Boo. Yep, Yep.
- 24:21Get off the podcast. I've seen what makes you cheer.
- 24:24Your booze mean nothing to me. I put the big.
- 24:30The big reason is, well, one, the interview just kind of
- 24:35turned me off from him a little bit.
- 24:37Just maybe he's just got a weird way of being, or he was just a
- 24:44little nervous. I did tell.
- 24:45You his comp. I did tell you his comp was
- 24:47Antonio Brown. So.
- 24:48Yeah no I know but but your comp was pre CTE brown so.
- 24:55I I never said that. I never said that.
- 24:58It was implied because that was when he was good.
- 25:02I, I mean, I, I, I think he's good and stuff.
- 25:07And so I'm not saying he's going to necessarily fall that far,
- 25:09but that I also, I think the gauntlet was the only thing he
- 25:13did and he missed it like the first ball or the second.
- 25:18It was before even started to run.
- 25:20And I remember thinking, I was watching it and I remember
- 25:23seeing some other guys go and I'm like, I'm like, man, this
- 25:27doesn't even look, I mean, I understand like when you're
- 25:29sprinting, you're supposed to keep going.
- 25:30You're supposed to stay in line, catch it in stride, you know,
- 25:34look comfortable and everything. And I understand that.
- 25:36And I thought he was, you know, fine there.
- 25:38But I remember the first 2 balls, I'm like, man, the
- 25:41quarterback doesn't even wind up to throw it until after the guy
- 25:44is already totally, the receivers already totally facing
- 25:47him hands out, kind of thinking like, man, I feel like they
- 25:49should like throw the ball at least like 1/2 a second earlier.
- 25:52So you turn around and just have to catch it.
- 25:54And I feel like that's a lot of catches in football are those
- 25:58kind of anticipatory throws where it's like you turn around,
- 26:00the ball is already halfway to you.
- 26:02So I just see this drill and I'm like, this just seems a little
- 26:04like that part seems a little too easy.
- 26:07You haven't even started running yet.
- 26:08Why are they like waiting for you to totally set up?
- 26:12And it just just hits him in both hands right over his
- 26:15helmet. And I'm like, OK, so when I saw
- 26:17that, and then I'm like, that's the only thing you did.
- 26:20And you like, couldn't even catch the second ball to me.
- 26:24And then with the interviews, I'm like, all right, this, this,
- 26:27it's given. It's given a little diva to me.
- 26:31Joel's not going to like that. Joel likes him a lot.
- 26:34Antonio Brown. I don't think that's a safe bet.
- 26:36If you knew this is Antonio Brown and he's going to get CTE,
- 26:40let's see how long you can get it before he starts taking off
- 26:43his clothes and running off the field.
- 26:45So no, I just, I just thought after that I'm like, OK, Nah,
- 26:49for how high I was on him before, I'm like, yeah, little
- 26:53I'm a little, I'm a little bit of a doubter now.
- 26:55I'm a little bit of a. He just needed to have a
- 26:57defender on him in order to make the catch.
- 26:59If he had a defender there, he he would have made a catch.
- 27:02That must be it. That must be it.
- 27:03Because I saw that and I was like, dude, like that's one of
- 27:07those things. I'm like, OK, can we please
- 27:08start again? Like that was so embarrassing.
- 27:10Like I've never had that's. Never.
- 27:11The interview was definitely. I suppose this normally never
- 27:14happens. This is This is so strange.
- 27:18I also thought it was funny that he said he modelled his game
- 27:21after Almanar St. Brown because I specifically
- 27:23asked you guys to not do that. Every everyone other than us is
- 27:27giving him that. Analysts himself, everyone,
- 27:30everybody. The fact that he said it, I'm
- 27:32like, OK, why don't you say like I'm me?
- 27:35It's like, oh, there we go. Still unoriginal, but you know,
- 27:40yeah, I don't know. Anyway.
- 27:41All right, Will, who do you have as a combine loser?
- 27:44I have a guy who didn't do anything at the Combine except
- 27:47for show up. He got measured and didn't do
- 27:50anything else. And that's Germond McCoy.
- 27:52Germod Excuse me, McCoy, we're talking right here a little bit
- 27:55more today. You want to know why he didn't
- 27:56do anything? Because he said his body's not
- 28:00ready yet and he's recovering from an ACS choice.
- 28:04Joel, that ACL happened 14 months ago.
- 28:09Aaron Rodgers was back at practice 79 days after ripping
- 28:13his Achilles at 39 years old. This boy is in his early 20s and
- 28:19he tore his ACL 14 months ago, took an entire year out.
- 28:24He tore it in January 25. They were expecting him to play
- 28:28football October 25 for the University of Tennessee
- 28:31Volunteers. Took the entire year off.
- 28:34Now it is February and it's March 1st today, but February
- 28:3928th, 2026. And he's still saying my body's
- 28:44not ready yet if I'm an NFL. Guy.
- 28:48Exactly. And it's my team, my choice, and
- 28:51you're? Not what a choice what and what
- 28:53a choice he made. There is, I am either.
- 28:57He's got the worst yips of all time because he's got the
- 29:00biggest mental block and he's afraid.
- 29:02He's just afraid to put any pressure on it so he doesn't
- 29:05want to tear it again. And you see this happen
- 29:07sometimes these guys come back with these major knee injuries
- 29:09and leg injuries and just afraid to do anything on it.
- 29:11And that's fine. That's all well and dandy, but
- 29:14you don't get to be top 15 pick and also do this that those two
- 29:20years don't. I don't think he's going top 15
- 29:22not not think he's going. There's no way he doesn't get to
- 29:25say my body is not ready to do this fourteen months after the
- 29:28tear and then also go top 15 because you that is the biggest
- 29:33red flag knee injuries for anybody in NFL.
- 29:36Knee injuries are have to be 1 of the biggest red flags and it
- 29:39is 15 or 14 months later. I know I keep repeating myself,
- 29:43but fourteen months later and he's still not ready to do
- 29:46anything. Dude, you are.
- 29:49You are throwing away your career.
- 29:51I hope you took those months and graduated college.
- 29:55I want to go with what Will said.
- 29:57I agree I tore my ACL I was back to 8 months.
- 30:02About this. Avery Yeah.
- 30:04Yeah. Regular.
- 30:05Yeah, you guys remember. That a regular human in the.
- 30:08Same movie. Wisdom teeth.
- 30:10Avery is an elite athlete, OK? Avery is a dad bod with no kids.
- 30:20That's so good and so mean. That's so good.
- 30:25I got to use that. Not.
- 30:29Only that I even had Greg Odin's micro fracture surgery and that
- 30:33put him in the grave in the NBA. Granted, I mean, and and that's
- 30:37The thing is, I mean, it's one thing to be like, oh, yeah,
- 30:39yeah, of course I'm not. I'm absolutely not performing at
- 30:42the highest level. But if I see a guy, I mean,
- 30:46right now, again, basketball reference, Caleb Wilson is hurt
- 30:49and he's probably going to show back up like right around the
- 30:52postseason. But it's one of those things
- 30:53where if he decided, you know what, there's only the ACC
- 30:57tournament in March Madness. I'm still recovering.
- 31:00I'm I'm just not going to play. The assumption there is is that
- 31:06you are now preparing for the combine.
- 31:11If you take that season off and you have done it, like, OK, so
- 31:15now we are expecting for the real job interview, you will be
- 31:19ready, right? And then he gets to his like,
- 31:21I'm just not ready. It's like, dude, what are you
- 31:25waiting for? What is it now?
- 31:27Because at that point it's like, OK, are you just slow to heal?
- 31:32Do you have the yips as well? Said it is one of those things
- 31:36like, hey, that's a big question mark.
- 31:37It's the same deal again, basketball, Darren Peterson.
- 31:40I don't know if you guys know that is Kansas point guard,
- 31:42combo guard, I guess going to be the number one draft pick most
- 31:45likely is already managing his load already comes in, play some
- 31:51games, plays well and then Subs himself out.
- 31:54And it's one of those things where it's like gay, this is
- 31:57this is frustrating one, because there's nil people paying people
- 32:00paying you, but also it's like, how is this going to translate?
- 32:03You're not going to get you're not just magically going to get
- 32:06more mature when you get to the NFL.
- 32:08Like these are habits you build now.
- 32:10So when I see that I'm like, OK, this, I mean, especially if I'm
- 32:14the fan, if I'm the fan of a team of the team that drafts
- 32:17him, OK, there had to have been someone better.
- 32:21There had to have been someone better.
- 32:22Unless it was like seventh round, then I'm like, all right,
- 32:24we can just go ahead and take them.
- 32:25All right, well, I just have one more loser I want to mention
- 32:27real quick, and then we'll get into some scouting reports.
- 32:31I think Notre Dame wide receiver Malachi Fields was a loser from
- 32:35the NFL Combine because he ran A461 Fourty.
- 32:39Fields was in the conversation to be a late first round pick
- 32:41after he had a very strong performance at the Senior Bowl,
- 32:44but running a 461 likely pushed him back into the second round.
- 32:48When you watch Fields on tape, you'll see that he's not a
- 32:51dynamic route runner and he doesn't consistently separate
- 32:54from man coverage, which is exactly what his 46140 time
- 32:57confirmed. He's more of a guy who wins at
- 32:59the catch point because he's 64. I just don't think teams will
- 33:02choose to draft a guy in the first round who can't
- 33:04consistently separate because winning contested catches is
- 33:07cool, but receivers who can't find separation at the NFL level
- 33:10don't often work out. So I think that 461 just really
- 33:14hurt Malachi Fields. All right.
- 33:16Do you guys have anything else before we move on to the
- 33:18scouting reports? Nope.
- 33:22All right, cool, so I'm going to share my screen, get the
- 33:25slideshow going. So we're going to jump back into
- 33:28Tennessee corner Jamad McCoy because he is the number 19
- 33:32player on the ESPN top 50 big board.
- 33:35And so, you know, I kind of feel like you guys don't like him
- 33:38very much, but just going based off of.
- 33:40Things to say. OK, OK.
- 33:43Well, I have. I have a lot of nice things to
- 33:44say. I'll start.
- 33:46I'll start because I have some nice things to say about him.
- 33:48I really like Jermad McCoy because he doesn't just cover
- 33:51wide receivers. He's often running routes better
- 33:53than they are. He moves with the receivers like
- 33:55he already knows the route. And he was a two way player in
- 33:58high school playing both corner and wide receiver.
- 34:00And I think every bit of his experience at the receiver
- 34:02position shows up on tape. He's got the awareness to know
- 34:06where the ball is at all times. He's always getting his head
- 34:09turned around and he tracks the ball and attacks the ball like
- 34:12he's the intended target. I think he's got everything you
- 34:15want in a corner at the NFL level.
- 34:17He's got size, physicality, the ability to track the ball.
- 34:20It's just really unfortunate that he tore his ACL in an
- 34:22offseason offseason training session in January of 2025
- 34:26because if he hadn't, I think he'd easily, easily be a top 15
- 34:30pick in this draft just based off of his 2024 tape.
- 34:33I think he's an awesome player, but as you guys mentioned, there
- 34:36is something kind of weird going on there with his recovery from
- 34:39this ACL injury. I read everything you said.
- 34:41He and 2424 he was elite. Exceptional zone timing, top of
- 34:45a ball, those translating to turnovers, advanced route
- 34:47recognition with with physical ability to stay on defenders in
- 34:51all parts of the field willing to put in the work to fight for
- 34:54deflection, get a turnover or if they make the play, make the
- 34:57tackle immediately for for a limited number of yards after
- 35:00the catch. And like we were kind of beating
- 35:02this dead horse. He just didn't play last year.
- 35:04If it were up to me, I think he should red shirt or medical,
- 35:07medical Gray shirt or wherever it would be at this point and
- 35:10come back to Tennessee for one more year.
- 35:11Because I, I think as a as a scout, as AGM, I'm sitting down
- 35:16in interviews with him and the only question I'm drilling into
- 35:18him is why didn't you play? Well, I was hurt.
- 35:20Well, you were hurt in January. Why didn't you play?
- 35:22Why didn't you actually play? Guys, come back from this and
- 35:26list the number of people who come back from it in less than
- 35:2910 months. When you play at all the entire
- 35:32season, you miss a a year of your life for what?
- 35:36And, and make him answer that question.
- 35:38Yeah. I, I, I like what he put on
- 35:40film. I just don't like that he had no
- 35:43film last year. That is a huge, major red flag.
- 35:47Yeah, but it's 2024. Tape was very good.
- 35:50Yes, incredible. I think that was State Beaver
- 35:53legend. Excuse me, Pardon me, to cut in
- 35:55there. Organ State Beaver legend,
- 35:57Germande McCoy. Let's not forget.
- 36:00He's stuck with the orange. He's going to the Browns.
- 36:05Absolutely. The Five.
- 36:06Yeah, I I see this kind of the same way as you guys, I think.
- 36:10Yeah, his his tape was very, very good.
- 36:13And it's one of those things where generally I would say
- 36:16like, maybe you should, you know, stick around, but if
- 36:19you're already projected a first round, you know, as a
- 36:22cornerback, I almost just feel like there's there's not really
- 36:25a reason. It's kind of the same.
- 36:26And college basketball, we're seeing if you're already a
- 36:28lottery pick, it's like that's that's kind of just the green
- 36:31light from everyone in your circle, coaches included, be
- 36:34like, yeah, this is, you know, especially, you know, here, it's
- 36:37like you could get injured and something could happen.
- 36:40You might as well just go ahead and secure the bag.
- 36:42And this could be something where, again, you know, just
- 36:45like, you know, some of these guys who didn't, you know,
- 36:48participate, It's like I'm going to let my game film speak for
- 36:51itself. I'm not going to give people a
- 36:53reason to doubt. Now, this is a very, very big
- 36:57reason to doubt. But I do think that his tape
- 36:59before shows, OK, he's got these tools.
- 37:02At that point, like Will said, I'd be drilling.
- 37:05I'm like, what's the reason here?
- 37:06I want to, I want to get a better feel for like who you are
- 37:09as a person. What motivates you?
- 37:11You know, what's you know, what is your motive here?
- 37:13Is it just, I don't want to devalue myself?
- 37:15Is it just, I'm physically not ready and this actually did very
- 37:20much alter me and I'm trying to bluff it until I get to the
- 37:24draft. I hope that's not the case.
- 37:25I don't think it is. But it is definitely a worry.
- 37:29Yeah, for sure. Just to bring up something else
- 37:31I think he needs to work on, from his 2024 tape, he had eight
- 37:35penalties called on him in 2024. And I don't know what penalties
- 37:38they were. I didn't find the specifics on
- 37:40what penalties were called, but I would assume that they were
- 37:43for holding because he does get grabby downfield.
- 37:46And you know, again, I think he's very good at turning his
- 37:49head when the ball is in the air to avoid like pass interference
- 37:53penalties. So I would assume that they were
- 37:56holding penalties, but I think he does need to work on how he's
- 38:00grabbing receivers when he's downfield because I again, I
- 38:02think he's really good at turning his head, but I think he
- 38:05just grabs onto the receiver too much which gets him called for
- 38:07those penalties. So something he doesn't need to
- 38:09work on there. But just one more thing that I
- 38:11have to bring up. He had four interceptions in
- 38:142024. Three of those came within the
- 38:16opponent's 3 yard line. And I think that goes back to
- 38:19his background as a wide receiver because he plays the
- 38:22fade routes in the end zone very well and he puts himself in the
- 38:25right position to make the play. So again, I think his
- 38:28experience, even though it was at the high school level, I
- 38:30think his experience as a wide receiver in high school shows up
- 38:34on tape when you watch this guy play.
- 38:36Do you guys have anything else you want to add with Jermod
- 38:38McCoy? Nope, I told her a bunch of nice
- 38:41things to say about him. You did you.
- 38:44Just I just want. Him for a while so.
- 38:47Just wait till we get to Lee Hunter.
- 38:51All right, well, let's move on. I was.
- 38:52Really hoping. I was really hoping it would be
- 38:54Lee Hunter right there. No, he's next.
- 38:57I knew he was. Next or not next, I knew he was.
- 38:593rd today. All right, well let's move on to
- 39:03the number 20 player on ESP NS top 50 big board, which is
- 39:06Clemson defensive tackle Peter Woods.
- 39:08Well, before the show you told me you really like this guy, so
- 39:11why don't you start us off with Peter Woods?
- 39:14Yeah, athletic testing is is free for a size consistent high
- 39:18motor throughout the whole game. I mean it doesn't matter what
- 39:21the score is either. He is going to be constant going
- 39:25at the entire game, strong and low timed hand striking.
- 39:29He's going to have to make the switch from being the best and
- 39:32biggest on the field to actually using technique.
- 39:34So that's going to be a huge area of improvement in the NFL
- 39:37because he's no longer just going to be the biggest body out
- 39:39there. But he is he is fast, he's
- 39:41explosive, he eats up a double team and and gets he he's got
- 39:46this two hand slide where he just throws people around and
- 39:49gets to it. And he's a difference of tackle
- 39:51first and foremost. But Clemson moves him around the
- 39:53line a lot and I wish they wouldn't have if he had been
- 39:56able to take the entire year to hone in his three tack or his
- 40:00nose straight up nose tackle abilities, I think he'd be even
- 40:03better. But I I love what he's got going
- 40:05on. I think he's the best friend of
- 40:06tackle in this draft. Not best defensive lineman, but
- 40:09best tackle specifically in this draft.
- 40:11I think he's going to. 'Cause real problems at the next
- 40:14level. He's a bit leaner at 3:10, but
- 40:17at six three he's he's got a long body with long arms with
- 40:22the hands up. In the past deflections as you
- 40:25see most from defensive tackles, they're willing to put in the
- 40:28work but not get the statistics for it.
- 40:30And that's why statistically you don't see a lot of numbers from
- 40:332 sacks from the entire season, but from AD tackle that's
- 40:37actually pretty good. So you want him in there eating,
- 40:40eating or the the lineman up in the box up because he's very
- 40:43good in the run, good run stopper, he says head across,
- 40:46able to see where the ball is moving.
- 40:48I love what he's got going on. He just going to have to improve
- 40:51in his technique moving into the draft in the in the NFL.
- 40:54Can I ask, Will, was there anything that wowed you about
- 40:58Peter Woods? No, Yeah, actually, that's one
- 41:01thing. Excuse me?
- 41:02His consistency, he was consistent throughout the entire
- 41:05game, and I think that's what raises him up so much.
- 41:08He does nothing exceptional, nothing like blows you out of
- 41:13the water and then you realize it's the fourth quarter, you're
- 41:16up by 20 and he's still playing at the same intensity that he
- 41:19was playing at snap #1 and that is really what you're looking
- 41:23for. Doesn't matter what they're
- 41:24doing, he's just playing. It's like a guy who just loves
- 41:27football. He just wants to be in and wants
- 41:29to play and he he runs hard from sideline to sideline.
- 41:33He tries to make the play every single time.
- 41:35I just love everything he's got going on from the defensive
- 41:38tackle position. Yeah, the reason I brought that
- 41:40up, the reason I asked that is because I don't feel like there
- 41:43was anything that wowed me on tape about Peter Woods.
- 41:45There wasn't anything that I hated.
- 41:47I just didn't think there was anything that made me really,
- 41:49like, fall in love with him. And so that's why I asked,
- 41:52because I just didn't think that there was anything that really
- 41:54like wowed me, like a key mesodor's motor.
- 41:57Like that wowed me on tape. There was nothing about Peter
- 41:59Woods that like, wowed me, like made me fall in love with the
- 42:02guy. So that's why I asked.
- 42:05What Will said there last I, I, that's what I also noticed.
- 42:08It's, it's that consistency, it's that motor, but also like
- 42:12that hustle, especially in the fourth quarter, being able to
- 42:15maintain that level of play. And honestly, you know, we, we,
- 42:19we've, you know, talked about other guys that have these just
- 42:23kind of, you know, insane strengths in certain areas.
- 42:28But then you also see the weakness on the flip side of it.
- 42:31And I think that this is what a coach would want, someone who is
- 42:36consistent, someone a known quantity, someone you know
- 42:39exactly what you're going to get from them every week.
- 42:42And I I thought that, you know, it's like the the pass rushing
- 42:45is like, OK, you know, you can get an edge rusher, you know, in
- 42:48on that. But seeing that like what you
- 42:50put on the scouting report, that sideline to sideline hustle, I
- 42:54thought just his motor, his ability to just keep going.
- 42:58Because that's The thing is, especially in the fourth
- 43:00quarter, you know, it's these little moments, these little
- 43:03lapses in energy or effort that, you know, you miss a tackle,
- 43:07it's a blown assignment and then the guys off to the races.
- 43:10So I think seeing this, seeing this guy, and maybe it's because
- 43:13he's a little leaner that he's able to do that, but I think
- 43:16that is exciting to me, someone that you know, you see
- 43:20something, you're like honestly great all around.
- 43:22Couldn't really find anything that was any outstanding
- 43:25strength, but definitely no outstanding weakness.
- 43:28Just you know exactly what you're going to get from him.
- 43:31And I think something to note too.
- 43:33There's a bunch of guys in this draft class that are from
- 43:35Clemson. But if there's something to note
- 43:37with all these guys from Clemson is pretty much every single one
- 43:41of them took a step back in 2025 compared to 2024.
- 43:45I don't know what happened to Clemson's defense, but for some
- 43:48reason all these guys took a step back at least statistically
- 43:53in 2025 versus 2024. So that's something to note
- 43:56there. So I think that's kind of a more
- 43:58of a defensive issue, like defensive coordinator type of
- 44:02issue versus the actual players issue.
- 44:05So just something to note. Will you were going to say
- 44:07something. Oh, Oh yeah, that's right.
- 44:10So to put in perspective about statistics there, we've got
- 44:13listed 20 tackles, 2 sacks. Last year Jaden Carter was hurt.
- 44:17This year, arguably Jaden Carter one of the best kind of tackles
- 44:19in the league. Oh yeah, absolutely.
- 44:22Unfortunately, he plays for the Eagles so.
- 44:24So in 2024, the last he he only played eleven games last year,
- 44:28so we're taking that last year out. 2024 full season had 4 1/2
- 44:33sacks and 42 combined tackles. So you're not looking for,
- 44:39you're not looking for like Miles Garrett type sacks and
- 44:45tackles and things like that from your, from your definitive
- 44:46tackle, your, your stat statistics size just scales down
- 44:52due to the position. And so 30 tackles and two sacks
- 44:55on a, on a year for a tackle are actually pretty good numbers.
- 44:59We just, we just aren't used to saying 2 sacks in a year is a
- 45:02good number for a defensive lineman of any kind.
- 45:06It's to put it into perspective. That's true.
- 45:08That's true. Well, let's move on to the
- 45:10number 21 player on ESPN's top 50 big board, which is Texas
- 45:14Tech defensive tackle Lee Hunter.
- 45:17Will, I know you got some things to say about him, so I'm going
- 45:19to have you start again. Tell us about Lee Hunter.
- 45:22All right, listen, I am, you know, it's right around starts
- 45:28like that. I am right around the same size
- 45:32as this dude. OK, height and weight combo.
- 45:35I'm right around the same physical stature of this day.
- 45:39OK, so when I am talking here, I'm talking as a true comp.
- 45:45The difference? Same.
- 45:46Athletic ability, too. The difference is, is I have not
- 45:49just spent the last years of my life in college or how to have
- 45:54top of the line training facilities and meal plans and
- 45:59all of this stuff. OK, I'm going to run down our
- 46:02strengths here on on the on the list and press the upper body
- 46:05strength. Absolute truth.
- 46:07Difficult to move with one-on-one blocks.
- 46:10Possibly the hardest to move because he's listed at 3:20.
- 46:13There is no way. I don't know what he weighed in
- 46:16the combines. I don't know.
- 46:18I don't know what he weighed in the combine, but he was for sure
- 46:20drinking Castor oil and just emptying the bowels to get that
- 46:24weight down. Anyway, makes consistent plays
- 46:28in the backfield. He is an unbelievable run
- 46:30stopper. This dude, when he he's got some
- 46:35of the strongest arms and vice grips for hands.
- 46:37When his hands get on you, you're going down because he's a
- 46:41big dude who's just lying on you and you just can't get up.
- 46:45That's just what's happening. Now I do want to pull up his
- 46:49combine numbers because I do believe I read that he had
- 46:52ground scraping vertical. I believe that was the exact
- 46:55quote, which, if in case you're wondering, is not a good thing.
- 46:59Just to while you're pulling that up, just to tell you guys
- 47:02how bad. Of a ground is scraping
- 47:04vertical, yeah. Yeah, that's the one.
- 47:08He he put up a score of a 53. Athleticism score.
- 47:12That's the one is bad. That's bad.
- 47:16That's horrible. He 518 five .1840 yard dash.
- 47:22That is actually rather fast. That is, it is not fast for the
- 47:28people, but for what you're thinking of those tackles going
- 47:31to be. I'm not mad about this man
- 47:33running a 518. The problem is, is his 1.78 or
- 47:371.7910 yards. But that's what really matters
- 47:40more. You're talking nose tackles and
- 47:41you're talking offensive lineman.
- 47:43The 40, who cares? These guys are never running 40
- 47:46yards in a play in their life. Throw that number away.
- 47:48What you would care about more is a 10 yard split and he's
- 47:51doing 10 yards in almost 2 full seconds and that's a problem.
- 47:55That is too a 21 1/2 inch vertical jump, an 8 foot 4 inch
- 48:00broad jump. That is nothing.
- 48:03That dude, this dude can't even dunk.
- 48:05And and listen, I can't dunk either, but I'm not a 23 year
- 48:09old college athlete. I just without trying to say
- 48:15he's a fat sack of crap, I'm trying to find another way to
- 48:18say it. He is so unathletic.
- 48:21He is unbelievably unathletic. When I watched I watched I was
- 48:27trying so hard to find good things to say about this man.
- 48:30I watched probably 30 minutes worth of his highlight films.
- 48:34Never once was a highlight of his with a double team.
- 48:38Every single highlight of his is one-on-one and he is unblockable
- 48:41one-on-one because of his sheer size and strength.
- 48:45The problem is he bends at the waist.
- 48:47He bends at the waist and, and leans on you and if you step
- 48:51back, he's falling flat on his butt because he's no longer has
- 48:54the center of gravity. And so if he if you let him in
- 48:57on you and he leans in and, and he's not bending in his knees
- 49:01bend at the waist, he's going to fall flat on his face.
- 49:04He he is slow, he's unathletic, but he does do things very good.
- 49:12He will stay on the line of scrimmage.
- 49:14He gets his head across. He reads the run very well.
- 49:17He has no pass rush in the NFL when people can just outrun him.
- 49:21And by people, I mean just regular offensive lineman can
- 49:24just outrun him. He's going to just get swept
- 49:28under the rug as like, oh, well, this guy didn't make it.
- 49:31Just like last year. Like, dude, that was, I think, a
- 49:34Buck who's in the Buccaneers, and it wouldn't let him play
- 49:37because he had to get his weight down.
- 49:40Oh yeah, Desmond Watson. That's a dude.
- 49:43He never officially made the He never officially made the team,
- 49:46though. Sure.
- 49:48I do bring in a very similar scenario where Lee Hunter will
- 49:51get drafted probably late first round, maybe early second round,
- 49:54then he'll get on the team and they won't let him play.
- 49:58You are not athletic enough to get on the field with these
- 50:02other actual athletes because when you and you see it, you you
- 50:06see it in high school sports a lot more.
- 50:08And yeah, pretty much just in high school sports.
- 50:10It doesn't happen at the collision level or the
- 50:12professional level when one team is physically worse than the
- 50:16other team. They are just so different.
- 50:18That's when the least, the least athletic in the least physical
- 50:21team starts getting hurt. These players cannot physically
- 50:24keep up and everyone just gets hurt.
- 50:26Same thing here. He is the strength to do it, but
- 50:29he does not have the physical athleticism to keep up with the
- 50:34athletes that are offensive lineman now.
- 50:37And and if you don't think an offensive lineman is an absolute
- 50:40athlete, go ahead and watch those guys on the combine they
- 50:43ran today, March 1st. Watch those guys do their their
- 50:47their leg drills and their their footwork drills.
- 50:49These guys are just so athletic nowadays because they have to be
- 50:54because of the speed of the game.
- 50:55And Lee Hunter does not measure hypothetically incredibly
- 50:59strong. When he gets his hands on you,
- 51:00you he will not let go. He is a going to be a hole in
- 51:04the defense. Yeah, no, I I agree with Will I,
- 51:07I think that speak coming from someone we just went from, you
- 51:12know, just saying this guy is just consistent, just all
- 51:16around, you know, solid player. This is a guy, here's a guy that
- 51:20plays football when he's physically able to, you know,
- 51:23that that does one thing you know very well.
- 51:26And that is, you know, it's like, hey, dude, dude is, is, is
- 51:30gambling at all on on every one of these pass rushes where, you
- 51:34know, it's like bending at the hips, you know it.
- 51:37It really just takes one intelligent lineman to just be
- 51:41like, I'm going to call this guy's bluff.
- 51:43It reminds me of Joaquin Phoenix's character and signs.
- 51:49He was this dude. He just going to play baseball.
- 51:52And he had like the most strikeouts like ever.
- 51:56And this whole thing was just like, it felt wrong not to
- 51:58swing. And that this, this, this.
- 52:01That's just kind of what this reminds me of a little bit.
- 52:03But also, yeah, dude is severely, severely unathletic.
- 52:07And it's kind of strange. I feel like we have been
- 52:11shitting on, sorry dad, these Texas Tech defenders like every
- 52:17is this the third? Is this the 4th one or just the
- 52:20third? Because I know this is
- 52:21definitely the third. But anyway, all of these guys.
- 52:25I think it's just David Bailey and.
- 52:27We have it was was it not another one?
- 52:31Maybe there wasn't. There will be another one in
- 52:33Jacob Rodriguez coming up soon, but I.
- 52:37Think it's just the two of them now.
- 52:39Oh, shoot. All right.
- 52:40Well, either way, yeah, Rough, rough.
- 52:44I, I just, it's strange. I mean, they played in the Big
- 52:4712. They had, they had a pretty good
- 52:49schedule. They, they won a lot of games.
- 52:51They got beat down by Oregon barely.
- 52:53But I mean, they won that game. But no, I, I think that this guy
- 52:56is, it's going to be one of those things where, yeah, the,
- 53:01the training staff is going to have to make sure they get this
- 53:04guy on a not only a plan, like a diet plan, but like just a
- 53:11exercise routine. This ground scraping vertical is
- 53:16brutal. But however I will say I bet
- 53:19money this man can run faster than all three of us.
- 53:22Oh I for sure 100% he can just run me.
- 53:25Funniest thing that's the funniest thing is I've 18.
- 53:29I'm like, I don't even know if I could run that.
- 53:31I I can't. I know I can't.
- 53:35Next time we're all together we're going to run a 40 for
- 53:38sure. It's fine, you'll do it four
- 53:40times. We got to go in the drop,
- 53:41combine ourselves, figure out how bad we are.
- 53:45Yeah, that's. Funny, just one more thing here
- 53:48real quick. I to keep to keep bringing it
- 53:50back to basketball. My biggest fear here is you're
- 53:54going to get like a Greg Oden or like a Zion Williamson, right?
- 53:57You've got all this power, all this potential.
- 53:59You're just your career is going to be riddled with injury.
- 54:02I'm often surprised when I hear Zion's actually in.
- 54:06Oh, yeah, Zion's playing tonight.
- 54:07Oh, really? That surprises me.
- 54:09He's just so consistently hurt because he's too powerful for
- 54:14his body. His body got too big and too
- 54:17powerful without his ligaments keeping up with it, and that is
- 54:21the problem. I think it's going to be Lee
- 54:23Hunter's problem as well, is he's too big and too powerful
- 54:27for his ligaments. I truly think that's why he
- 54:29bends at the waist more than bending with the knee with his
- 54:32knees, because his knees can't drive him the way that he can
- 54:36just use his upper body strength.
- 54:38I I really don't have anything else to add.
- 54:39You guys pretty much covered everything that I would have
- 54:42said So yeah. So let's I'm going to share my
- 54:46other screen here. So, Avery, let me know if you
- 54:49like this because this is how we're going to be doing our.
- 54:51Draft board. I do like it.
- 54:53I love it. All right.
- 54:55So more of it. I've got the three guys that we
- 54:58talked about on the bottom of this list, so currently ranked
- 55:011920 and 21. So first, before we rank these
- 55:05guys based off of what happened at the Columbine, are there any
- 55:09guys on our current list, one through 18 that you guys want to
- 55:12move anywhere else? Like Jeremiah Love's on his way
- 55:16up, but that's. Just me.
- 55:19Think Avery might have some reason about that?
- 55:21I, I don't know, I think Aid's still fine.
- 55:24I think like Joel said, I, I, I think he's still kind of like.
- 55:30He's in the same spot. He's really good running back,
- 55:32but he's still, he's still. Sunny styles should move up.
- 55:35Sunny Styles. Is #2 probably the number 2
- 55:38honestly. I mean probably no number.
- 55:40Two, I wouldn't even if not. One number one, honestly.
- 55:44I'm good. I'm actually, I'm actually OK
- 55:47with that. I'm actually OK with that.
- 55:49I'm actually OK with moving sunny styles with one he didn't
- 55:53show up. I'm totally.
- 55:54Fine with that. He he did not have as good a
- 55:56Caleb Downs even performing he. Didn't even.
- 55:59He didn't even test. He didn't even test.
- 56:00Yeah, anything. And so I'm like losing a ranking
- 56:03because on a bye week, but still all of a sudden he styles it was
- 56:07prove how good he was so. I mean, we might as well just
- 56:10move Carnell Tate to #4 just keep the.
- 56:12Top four, yeah. No.
- 56:18Right. Yeah, I'm cool with that.
- 56:19If you guys are cool with that, is there anybody else you guys
- 56:22want to move around? Should move Sadika.
- 56:25Yeah, I like him at 11. I.
- 56:27Like that? And mainly, I mean, I would move
- 56:30it up higher, but he is still just a tight end.
- 56:32So I don't think he's necessarily like extremely game
- 56:36changing as some of these other players if you know, because
- 56:38it's one of those things like if the scheme even uses him
- 56:41correctly. But I like him at 11.
- 56:44OK, cool. All right.
- 56:46So now we got to move these these three guys in.
- 56:49So where do you guys think, Jermad?
- 56:52McCoy should be. I like him right there.
- 56:55At 19. Yep, he didn't perform at all.
- 56:59But I don't want to take away from his his his athleticism.
- 57:02I don't want to take that away from him.
- 57:04But he he has literally shown nothing in 14 months to prove he
- 57:09is better. But I can't say he's worse.
- 57:12That's fair. Fair.
- 57:15Do you guys think Lee Hunter is worse?
- 57:17Is the worst player on this list.
- 57:19Yes, I do. Do we think he's worse than
- 57:21Fano? I do.
- 57:22He's he's yeah, he's way less athletic.
- 57:25Yeah, Fano is a much better athlete than Lee Hunter.
- 57:28OK, so where do you guys want to put Peter Woods then?
- 57:30I think he goes above Ruben Bane.
- 57:33I was even thinking, yeah, below Lomu, above Bane.
- 57:38It's right there at 16. I like that and.
- 57:42Then I would move Fano down 1. And put McCoy above Fano.
- 57:46Yeah. OK, I'm cool with that.
- 57:48I. Mean we don't have to, but.
- 57:50No, I'm, I'm cool with that. If we're just going based off of
- 57:54Mccoy's 2024 tape, then I think he should be above Fano.
- 57:59That it's just a tough one because he's hurt.
- 58:01So right, it's it's kind of hard to rank him just because we
- 58:06don't know what he's going to be.
- 58:07Right. Yeah, but but we do know how bad
- 58:11most well, we know how bad Lee Hunter is athletically and we
- 58:16know Fano is is what he is. I I has did he test?
- 58:22Do we know if he tested? Yeah, he tested.
- 58:25How did he do? He had a 49140 which is I think
- 58:29one of the better 40s for the tackles.
- 58:31Yeah, he he had a 90. I thought this has him score.
- 58:33Yeah, I knew everything. Combined, Greg.
- 58:35Overall. What we said about Fano with his
- 58:38ability to win with his movements is what showed up at
- 58:42the combat. OK, let's let's put Lee Hunter
- 58:45into a better perspective here. Final measure, the six, five and
- 58:48a half 311 lbs. So taller and about the same
- 58:52weight as Lee Hunter, 32 inch vertical jump versus a 21 inch
- 58:56vertical jump and a nine foot 3 broad jump versus an 8 foot 2
- 59:00broad jump. OK, so that's that's kind of
- 59:03stuff we're talking about here. Like he jumped over a foot
- 59:07taller and horizontally than Lee Hunter.
- 59:12Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 59:14So I'm I'm good with the board the way it is right now, if you
- 59:17guys are cool with that. I like it.
- 59:18Yeah, I like that. OK, cool.
- 59:21So put McCoy in at 19, Lee Hunter's going in at 21, and
- 59:25then we put Peter Woods at 16. I we don't have to change it,
- 59:31but I would like to say that I would switch Carnell Tate and
- 59:36Mackay Lemon. We don't have to do it, but
- 59:40that's what I would do. Will.
- 59:42Even after Cardinal Tate slow 40 time.
- 59:44Yep, I have. I have no issue with that.
- 59:46In fact, that goes back to the 40 times of some of these other
- 59:49better players where it's like, honestly don't even care that
- 59:54much. Like he showed it on the field.
- 59:56I don't think it's a huge deal. Honestly, those two guys, it's
- 59:59probably kind of like splitting hairs here, but that's what I
- 1:00:03would do. I don't expect you guys to move
- 1:00:05it, but that's what I would. Do I would rather put Jeremiah
- 1:00:08at Love at six, Carnal Tate at 8, who had a limit at 9:00?
- 1:00:14I'll be OK with that. Because Jeremiah Love stayed
- 1:00:17after and ran extra routes that he did not have to.
- 1:00:23He ran extra from these guys and all he was continue to prove how
- 1:00:29good he is out of the backfield receiving, running.
- 1:00:32There's a point I was watching his his combine tape.
- 1:00:34There's a point where he's trapping his feet over pads, his
- 1:00:37foot clips a pad and he just stomps through it, doesn't miss
- 1:00:41a beat, picks it right back up and keeps going.
- 1:00:43Doesn't trip, doesn't stumble, just keeps going like that.
- 1:00:46I've done that before and ate so much dirt.
- 1:00:50I fell so hard. That is not easy.
- 1:00:54That's what would happen to the hunter.
- 1:00:56That's what would happen. It is for sure what would happen
- 1:00:58to the hunter. All right.
- 1:01:03I'm cool with these rankings if you guys are cool with that.
- 1:01:06I'm cool. I like this.
- 1:01:07I like how how fluid that that big board is.
- 1:01:10Yeah, that's nice. All right.
- 1:01:12Cool, so that's what we've got time for on today's episode.
- 1:01:16But next week we're going to be back with Avery's cousin coming
- 1:01:20on the show and hopefully this time he'll actually make an
- 1:01:23appearance on the show. We're still going to be talking
- 1:01:25about the NFL Draft, but we're going to be doing it a little
- 1:01:28bit differently than we have been, so stay tuned for that.
- 1:01:31And as always, don't forget to keep your balls played with.
- 1:01:34We'll see you next time. Bye now y'all.
- 1:01:37Also, Mark Davis and Sarah Kyle still sucks.
