- 0:22SPEAKER_00: On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress pronounced that it was officially independent of British rule.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: Known as the Declaration of Independence, this document made it clear that the 13 colonies had their own sovereign identity.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: They would no longer be content to stay under the rule of another entity.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: Now, July 4th is a uniquely American holiday, but there's another kind of declaration that every one of us writers should make, no matter what our nationality.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: And this declaration communicates a simple truth to the world.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: The writer and my friend Jeff Goines alluded to it in the title of his profound little book called You Are a Writer.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: But what does it mean to declare to the world that you're a writer?
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: What does that mean exactly?
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: I believe that it means that you simply call yourself a writer.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: You tell other people about your work.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: You're not afraid of other people's reactions when you tell them you're a writer.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: Ultimately, it means that you courageously stand up and you tell the world I have something to share.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: I believe I have value, I have knowledge, experience, wisdom, or stories that I think will make your life better.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: That's ultimately what it means.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: And when you embrace your identity as a writer and you start sharing your voice, other people will embrace you as a writer too.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: So I encourage you to go ahead and make the declaration.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Today is a really good day to tell the world that you are in fact a writer.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: And in fact, that's today's challenge.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: I want you to mention to somebody today that you're a writer.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: And I want you to be brave and bold in your declaration.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: Go ahead.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: Nobody's going to bite your head off.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: A monsoon isn't going to come and carry you away.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: Nothing bad is going to happen.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: But instead, I have a feeling something good is going to happen.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: You're going to be confident, and that person you tell that you're a writer is going to appreciate it.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: And who knows, they might subscribe to your email list, they might buy your book, they might go to your blog.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Whatever it is that you want them to do, you might be really surprised at the cool things that happen whenever you tell the world that you're a writer.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: Hey, a big thanks to today's sponsor, The Word Wizard.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: You know, as we talk about writers, as we talk about books and creating content here on the show, all that's great and all that's really important.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: But you know, the thing about it is that when you write, you really need an editor to take what you've written and to polish it and to make it the best that it can possibly be.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: In fact, there are a lot of people who write books, but they kind of ignore the editing process and they put their books out there into the world and they're not really the best that they can be.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: And that is why I completely trust my good friend Karen Hunsinger, also known as the Word Wizard, to be the perfect partner to make sure that my author dreams don't become a nightmare.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: And she can do the same thing for you as well.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: You know, a great editor doesn't just correct spelling and grammar, they also correct wordiness, shifts in tone and voice, overuse of particular words, and a good editor also enhances transitions, clarity, and accuracy.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: In other words, they take the cool stuff that you have created and they make it way, way better.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: You know, I've worked with Karen many times, and she is your secret weapon for crafting the highest quality book possible.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: So I encourage you to go to Karen Hunsinger.com and grab your free sample edit.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: That's Karen Hunsinger.com.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: There's also a link in the show notes.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: Go there and tell her that Kent Sanders of the Daily Writer Podcast sent you.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: She will be thrilled, and I will be thrilled also because I know that you're getting a great edit for your book.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: So check it out.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: I promise you will love working with Karen.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: All right, on that note, my friend, thanks for listening as always, and I'll see you next time.
