- 0:04Speaker 1: Hey, and welcome to the short stuff. I'm Josh, and
- 0:06Speaker 1: there's Chuck and Ben's here too, sitting in for Jerry,
- 0:08Speaker 1: who usually sits in for day. It's very confusing, so
- 0:11Speaker 1: let's forget the whole thing and get started because this
- 0:13Speaker 1: is short stuff.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Hey, happy day after birthday friend.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Oh, thank you very much. I appreciate that, friend. What'd
- 0:21Speaker 1: you do? Oh geez, I can't really get into it here,
- 0:26Speaker 1: but it was a good birthday.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Okay, tell me in private.
- 0:30Speaker 1: We had a good time. But no, I appreciate you
- 0:32Speaker 1: getting those posts on social media up. That was very
- 0:35Speaker 1: nice of you. It made me feel very loved.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Hey, of course people love you, and they said so
- 0:39Speaker 2: in the in the hundreds and thousands.
- 0:41Speaker 1: I know, it's really nice. Thanks a lot. Yeah, you
- 0:44Speaker 1: text me, You're like, you're getting a lot of love
- 0:45Speaker 1: over on Instagram right now.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Well, so I have to get you to open Instagram.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I know, it works like a charm.
- 0:52Speaker 2: It's no good my good deed goes unseen if you
- 0:55Speaker 2: don't watch it.
- 0:56Speaker 1: So but thank you for that. Of course we'll have
- 0:59Speaker 1: to go back and edit all this out because this
- 1:01Speaker 1: is short stuff.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Uh no, that was only a minute. Ten eleven twelve.
- 1:05Speaker 2: We're doing great, all.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Right, Well, then we have to talk really fast for
- 1:08Speaker 1: the rest of the episode.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Well, we're talking about something near and dear to my
- 1:12Speaker 2: heart that I've talked about on stage in front of
- 1:16Speaker 2: thousands of people, and that is the fact that I
- 1:21Speaker 2: not always, but I mostly try to sit down when
- 1:25Speaker 2: I go peepy.
- 1:27Speaker 1: H I do too, I'm a sitzpinkler.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Oh do you just started doing that?
- 1:33Speaker 1: Yeah? I think I confessed along with you on stage
- 1:36Speaker 1: in Seattle too, if I remember correctly, But yeah, yeah, no,
- 1:40Speaker 1: I totally now I own it. At the time, I
- 1:43Speaker 1: was a little wary. Now I'm like, yeah, I sit
- 1:45Speaker 1: down to pee. It works really well. The only time
- 1:48Speaker 1: I don't is in public because I would rather cut
- 1:52Speaker 1: off the lower half of my body than ever sit
- 1:55Speaker 1: on a public toilet seat.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Yeah. And if I remember correctly, my on stage joke
- 1:59Speaker 2: was that I sit to p but I stand up
- 2:01Speaker 2: when I poop.
- 2:02Speaker 1: That's right, that was a classic. Yeah.
- 2:05Speaker 2: I've been doing that though for I feel like it's
- 2:08Speaker 2: semi knew, like in the past, like six or seven years.
- 2:13Speaker 2: I started seeing down to pe and the first uh,
- 2:15Speaker 2: you know, adult male that I saw doing this was
- 2:21Speaker 2: was my brother in law when your brother in law. Yeah,
- 2:24Speaker 2: my brother in law when I lived with them, my
- 2:26Speaker 2: sister's husband, Carston, who is German.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Oh that makes sense because this is a very German thing.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Like there's even know that I didn't either. I think.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Actually you me found this one because we were talking
- 2:41Speaker 1: about I don't remember what we were talking about. We
- 2:43Speaker 1: looked it up and it turned out that this is
- 2:45Speaker 1: a big thing in Germany and they have a word
- 2:48Speaker 1: for it, sits pinkler. Can you say it was a
- 2:51Speaker 1: German accent? Yeah, Hasselhoff, he does.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Uh No, you said it right, basically since sitzpink.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, there you go. That's what I was looking for.
- 3:02Speaker 2: You just got to add a little flare.
- 3:04Speaker 1: It makes sense too that the Germans would have a
- 3:06Speaker 1: word for it, because the Germans have a word for everything.
- 3:08Speaker 1: But the reason why a little bell went off in
- 3:11Speaker 1: my head when you said your brother in law is
- 3:13Speaker 1: German is because it's a big deal in Germany. As
- 3:17Speaker 1: a matter of fact, there was a yu Goov Pole
- 3:19Speaker 1: of eight Western European countries plus the US, Canada, Mexico,
- 3:24Speaker 1: Australia and Singapore, and the whole point of this pole
- 3:28Speaker 1: was to find out where where men sit down to
- 3:32Speaker 1: pee the most. It was groundbreaking scientific pole.
- 3:36Speaker 2: And Germany went out. I didn't quite get this because
- 3:40Speaker 2: it says sixty two percent of German Men sit every time.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Nope, a combined sixty two every time or most times.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Oh, okay, every time being for most times. I got you.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, So I mean for the that
- 3:55Speaker 1: means that for the most part, by far, most German
- 3:59Speaker 1: Men are you'll find them sitting down when they're peeing
- 4:02Speaker 1: most of the time.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Yeah. And behind them was Sweden at fifty percent, Denmark
- 4:07Speaker 2: forty four, Australia, which kind of surprised me at thirty nine.
- 4:10Speaker 2: I thought they would be pretty low on the list. Yeah,
- 4:13Speaker 2: but the US, Mexico, Britain, and Singapore rounded out between
- 4:17Speaker 2: twenty and twenty four percent.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Yeah, which all of that's a little surprising. I thought
- 4:22Speaker 1: Singapore would be up there with you. I thought Australia
- 4:25Speaker 1: would be down there because they're so rough and tumble.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Yeah, that's such a sexister misogynistic. I don't know what
- 4:33Speaker 1: it is exactly, but it's just a really kind of
- 4:36Speaker 1: wrong thing to assume, like, oh, yeah, Australians are rough
- 4:39Speaker 1: and tumble, they ride kangaroos around and drink like fifty
- 4:42Speaker 1: five gallon drums of fosters, right and eat it out
- 4:44Speaker 1: back every night. But if so, of course they don't
- 4:48Speaker 1: sit down to peak. And that's kind of like this
- 4:50Speaker 1: idea behind the six pinkler thing, like it's used in Germany,
- 4:54Speaker 1: or it used to be used as an insult. Yeah,
- 4:57Speaker 1: like you're a sixth pinkler, you're kind of you're a feminine,
- 5:00Speaker 1: you're kind of a woos You're just not a manly man.
- 5:04Speaker 1: And somehow, some way, German society said, nine, we're taking
- 5:09Speaker 1: that and we're going to own it, and we're going
- 5:11Speaker 1: to turn it on its head, and we're going to
- 5:12Speaker 1: start a campaign starting around two thousand and four to
- 5:16Speaker 1: basically train German Men to sit down to pee.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I love it. They even have this, This is incredible,
- 5:22Speaker 2: a device sort of like a what do you call
- 5:28Speaker 2: the things a duvet, A duvet, a bidet, You want
- 5:32Speaker 2: to make.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Those up, Spread a duvet over your toilet and then
- 5:35Speaker 1: just p all of.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Nothing would splash, sort of like a bidet. You know,
- 5:40Speaker 2: some bidets talk to you, I know in Japan and
- 5:43Speaker 2: Germany has kind of gotten on that with their WC
- 5:46Speaker 2: geist or toilet ghost or schbook sp uk, which is
- 5:50Speaker 2: spook which is a person recording a person who has
- 5:55Speaker 2: recorded a message that says things like excuse me, except
- 6:00Speaker 2: in German there's a penalty for peeing while standing in
- 6:02Speaker 2: this house. You better not risk any problems and sit down.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Yeah, so if you lift the toilet, it triggers that voice.
- 6:09Speaker 2: I kind of like that.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Yeah, sometimes they'll be recorded in the voice of a
- 6:13Speaker 1: famous German chancellor. Sometimes it's just like a lion's roar.
- 6:17Speaker 1: But I mean, that's how invested in getting men to
- 6:21Speaker 1: sit down to pee they are in Germany, Like they
- 6:23Speaker 1: really take it seriously. And there's another country that takes
- 6:26Speaker 1: it at least as seriously, and that's Japan. Yeah, And
- 6:30Speaker 1: what I found very interesting is that Japan. I said
- 6:34Speaker 1: that Germany like really started this drive to get men
- 6:36Speaker 1: to sit down to pee, to turn men into sit
- 6:38Speaker 1: spinklers in like two thousand and four. The same thing
- 6:42Speaker 1: happened in Japan back in around two thousand. In fact,
- 6:45Speaker 1: there was a survey in nineteen ninety nine only fifteen
- 6:47Speaker 1: percent of Japanese men sat down to pe, but by
- 6:50Speaker 1: twenty twenty it was up to sixty percent. So something
- 6:54Speaker 1: really radical happened here on planet Earth in the early
- 6:58Speaker 1: two thousands that just turned everything on its head, yeah,
- 7:02Speaker 1: or put everything on its bottom, right.
- 7:06Speaker 2: And I guess we'll come back and talk a little
- 7:07Speaker 2: bit about some of the reasons why that might happened.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Right for this indubitably.
- 7:41Speaker 2: So one thing I thought was, you know, since it
- 7:44Speaker 2: really increased a lot over the past like twenty years
- 7:46Speaker 2: or so, I thought there may have been something I missed, like,
- 7:50Speaker 2: you know, Captain America sat to pee in a Marvel
- 7:53Speaker 2: movie or something like that, But I couldn't find anything.
- 7:56Speaker 2: I think it's just literally people men realizing that it's
- 8:02Speaker 2: a lot more hygienic to sit down and you risk
- 8:05Speaker 2: a lot less almost down to zero basically if you're
- 8:08Speaker 2: doing it right, that there's going to be pee elsewhere
- 8:11Speaker 2: that's not in the toilet.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Yeah. I think men finally started listening to women when
- 8:15Speaker 1: they're like, this is so gross. Why do you do this?
- 8:19Speaker 1: Get out of the house forever? Yeah, because it is
- 8:22Speaker 1: so there's a I mean, when you sit down to pee,
- 8:26Speaker 1: your chance of getting pee anywhere but in the toilet
- 8:29Speaker 1: is almost zero. You're doing something really wrong if you're
- 8:32Speaker 1: sitting down to pee and pea spraying everywhere. But there
- 8:36Speaker 1: might be a duvet stuffed in the toilet right as
- 8:38Speaker 1: a matter of fact, you might want to check that. God,
- 8:41Speaker 1: but if you stand up to pee, the chances are
- 8:44Speaker 1: essentially one hundred percent that you're going to get pee
- 8:46Speaker 1: splattered somewhere some way. Sometimes this is a terrible thing
- 8:51Speaker 1: to say, but it's true. Some men just miss entirely
- 8:54Speaker 1: and they'll pee like basically behind the toilet. They'll get
- 8:58Speaker 1: it in front of the toilet on the sides. There's
- 9:00Speaker 1: a whole thing that every man listening knows about where
- 9:04Speaker 1: there's a lot of opportunity to get pete outside of
- 9:07Speaker 1: the toilet bowl when you pee standing up.
- 9:10Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know, I was going to say not
- 9:12Speaker 2: to get too gross, but I guess we're kind of
- 9:13Speaker 2: there already. Yeah, you know, people get distracted, especially in
- 9:17Speaker 2: the age. You know, I've seen plenty of grown men
- 9:20Speaker 2: on their smartphone like at a urinal urinals by the way,
- 9:24Speaker 2: or it's a whole different horror show that we want
- 9:26Speaker 2: to even get into, because there's no way that p
- 9:29Speaker 2: isn't going places even if you're properly peeing in a urinal.
- 9:33Speaker 2: But I've seen guys on their phone, like you get
- 9:34Speaker 2: distracted and all of a sudden, like you look down,
- 9:37Speaker 2: you're like, that's not going where I thought it was going. Yeah,
- 9:40Speaker 2: not for thirty seconds, but like you know, all it
- 9:42Speaker 2: takes is as a second of a peepee stream and
- 9:45Speaker 2: you've got a real mess on your hands.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Yeah, And I think the thing that really is the
- 9:49Speaker 1: judge of character is whether you correct your course once
- 9:53Speaker 1: you realize if you just keep peeing off to the
- 9:55Speaker 1: side of the urinal, no, you're a bad person.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Well, bring Young University. They study fluid dynamics there in
- 10:03Speaker 2: their physics department, and they actually did studies on urine
- 10:09Speaker 2: back spray when you're standing up. And like I said,
- 10:14Speaker 2: even if you're doing it perfectly right, there's probably going
- 10:18Speaker 2: to be some kind of spray that's going somewhere outside
- 10:21Speaker 2: the toilet, even if it's just on the rim of
- 10:22Speaker 2: the toilet.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Yes, yes, because there's a lot of factors contributing to
- 10:27Speaker 1: that that combined to basically say you peace standing up
- 10:30Speaker 1: piece going somewhere outside of the toilet. One is that
- 10:34Speaker 1: when the urine stream exits the penis towards the toilet powl.
- 10:40Speaker 1: There's a whole period where it's not it's just flying
- 10:44Speaker 1: through the air. Yeah, And for about the first six
- 10:46Speaker 1: inches after exits said penis, it's held together in a stream.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Everything's going really well. And then after about six inches
- 10:56Speaker 1: past the exit, it enters what's called the plateau Rayleigh
- 10:59Speaker 1: in stability. It's a fluid dynamic phenomenon where a stream
- 11:05Speaker 1: of fluid eventually breaks up as gravity starts to pull
- 11:08Speaker 1: it apart, and it breaks up into droplets, and each
- 11:11Speaker 1: one of those droplets can hit that toilet bowl and
- 11:14Speaker 1: spray everywhere.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Yeah, you nailed it. Porcelain is also a problem because
- 11:20Speaker 2: if you have a porcelain toilet, which you know chances
- 11:23Speaker 2: are you probably do, porcelain is hydrophilic, which means it
- 11:26Speaker 2: really loves fluid, so it loves to splait it all
- 11:30Speaker 2: over itself. Basically, it's a very splatty surface that you're
- 11:35Speaker 2: peeing on. To be honest, I might be on something
- 11:38Speaker 2: with the duvet thing.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I think you find. One of the other things
- 11:43Speaker 1: that people who are like, yes, be a sitzpinkler are
- 11:46Speaker 1: all about is emptying the bladder. It's a big deal
- 11:49Speaker 1: to empty your bladder. It's not just for the forty
- 11:52Speaker 1: plus crowd, even though it really is. But you really
- 11:56Speaker 1: want to make sure you get all the p out
- 11:58Speaker 1: of your bladder whenever you peet.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Reason why everyone, though, does anyone key to eighty percent
- 12:04Speaker 2: and be like that feels good enough?
- 12:07Speaker 1: Well, no, there's just off you can you can run
- 12:10Speaker 1: into situations where you're like, you can't like all you get.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Out, yeah, or you're interrupted Yeah okay.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Right, but I mean even if you're not like that
- 12:19Speaker 1: could be all that Like you can't get one hundred
- 12:21Speaker 1: percent out. So sometimes when you're like.
- 12:23Speaker 2: No, that's I get you.
- 12:25Speaker 1: I think it has to do with prostate. But so
- 12:28Speaker 1: people like sit down to pee. But this is a
- 12:30Speaker 1: very fraught debate because medical researchers tend to say if
- 12:36Speaker 1: you're a man standing up to p or sitting down
- 12:38Speaker 1: to pe, depending on your condition, depending on how healthy
- 12:42Speaker 1: you are and how healthy your prostate is, it's not
- 12:44Speaker 1: going to make any difference whatsoever. One way might help
- 12:47Speaker 1: one guy, the other way might help another guy. So
- 12:50Speaker 1: that's really not a very good argument for getting people
- 12:53Speaker 1: to sit down to pee.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Yeah, So I get all that now because I, in
- 12:56Speaker 2: fact myself since we're being honest, since this is just
- 12:59Speaker 2: you and me talking to no one else's listening. Sure
- 13:02Speaker 2: have have reached that age where there's like some prostate
- 13:05Speaker 2: things where peeing, you know, all of a sudden, you
- 13:08Speaker 2: wake up one day in your fifties and you go
- 13:09Speaker 2: to p and you're like, huh, nothing's happening, right, So
- 13:13Speaker 2: it's just going leg. Yeah, So you call your doctor
- 13:16Speaker 2: and they're like, oh, well, that's just what happens. You
- 13:18Speaker 2: start to have some like little prostate issues and nothing
- 13:21Speaker 2: like super serious usually but no.
- 13:23Speaker 1: But that's such a double edged sword. Like on the
- 13:26Speaker 1: one hand, you're like, oh, I'm so relieved this is
- 13:28Speaker 1: in a terrible medical condition. On the other hand, what
- 13:32Speaker 1: they're saying is like, get used to it, buddy, Yeah,
- 13:35Speaker 1: this is just what your body's doing from now on.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. Women, on the other hand, it's a different story.
- 13:43Speaker 2: They don't have the bladder, you know, when you stand
- 13:45Speaker 2: up to pee, which you know, supposedly I don't think
- 13:48Speaker 2: supposedly standing up to pe does help a man empty
- 13:51Speaker 2: their bladder more fully, but the prostate is supporting us,
- 13:54Speaker 2: is supporting that bladder. Women don't have the prostate. So
- 13:58Speaker 2: if a woman is forced a piece on the side
- 14:01Speaker 2: of the road behind the concert venue, at the campground,
- 14:07Speaker 2: in the shower. They're all manner of reasons why a
- 14:11Speaker 2: woman may have to go peepee standing up. They don't
- 14:14Speaker 2: have that prostate supporting them, so it's much more difficult
- 14:17Speaker 2: for them to empty their full contents.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. The thing is is so if they sit
- 14:24Speaker 1: down to pee, they're much more prone to empty their bladder.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Ipso facto, everybody should sit down to pee. The problem
- 14:31Speaker 1: is when you again, when you get into public and
- 14:34Speaker 1: you hover above the toilet seat to pee, that actually
- 14:38Speaker 1: has a similar problem as when you're standing up to pee.
- 14:41Speaker 1: But really, if that's your choice, I feel like in
- 14:43Speaker 1: that situation, just go with the not getting one hundred
- 14:46Speaker 1: percent of your pee out right then.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Yeah, And the one last thing I want to say
- 14:50Speaker 2: is I get that a lot of men probably don't
- 14:53Speaker 2: sit down to pea still, the statistics tell me that
- 14:56Speaker 2: at least, but in the middle of the night, if
- 14:59Speaker 2: you have to get up and go, I just think
- 15:02Speaker 2: it's the craziest thing I've ever heard of to try
- 15:05Speaker 2: and stand there and still try and stay asleep and
- 15:08Speaker 2: pee in that toilet. That's how that was The gateway
- 15:12Speaker 2: for me was in the middle of the night because
- 15:15Speaker 2: it just makes sense.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Well, I remember the first time that happened to me.
- 15:19Speaker 1: I accidentally fell onto the toilet while I was peeing
- 15:22Speaker 1: into a sitting position, and I was like, oh, this
- 15:24Speaker 1: is much nicer.
- 15:26Speaker 2: I love it.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Well, Chuck says he loves it. I want to end
- 15:29Speaker 1: on a high note that means everybody a short Stuff
