- 0:30Speaker 1: there you go, boys, how y'all he's fired up to night.
- 0:37Speaker 1: I feel the energy sacramental. What's up, guys is? Uh?
- 1:02Speaker 1: I got a couple people I want to ask about.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Larry Costigo here, Yeah, what's your wife's name? We'll get
- 1:08Speaker 1: to that. Uh. Um and uh, Greg Fonts, you guys
- 1:17Speaker 1: know you guys know the Free Dive Shop West Sacramento. Right, Okay,
- 1:23Speaker 1: we're gonna do a bunch of things to night. We're
- 1:25Speaker 1: gonna do our normal show. Um. Then we're gonna do
- 1:29Speaker 1: a thing that we're doing at our live shows, which
- 1:32Speaker 1: is called two Lies in the Truth a k a.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Seeing through the bullshit, Seeing through the bullshit. And uh,
- 1:44Speaker 1: we already picked a seat number before any of you
- 1:47Speaker 1: have to trust us that we just randomly selected a
- 1:49Speaker 1: seat number. Do you remember what it is, Steve? Do
- 1:54Speaker 1: you remember what it is? And that person will get
- 1:56Speaker 1: to play the game. Uh, so we're gonna do that.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Get a lot of interesting emails from California all the time.
- 2:06Speaker 1: When I think about is It's like what wasn't I'm
- 2:13Speaker 1: not sure whether there was a laugh there. It's like, uh,
- 2:17Speaker 1: it's like a lovable kind of nuthouse around here. Uh.
- 2:22Speaker 1: The uber driver. I was with the uber driver this
- 2:25Speaker 1: morning and he got kind of circumspect for a minute.
- 2:27Speaker 1: I wrote it down what he said to me. He says,
- 2:29Speaker 1: you know, the problem with California's We've got too many
- 2:31Speaker 1: fucking crazy people. He were not long ago. We get
- 2:38Speaker 1: an email from a guy not long ago who was
- 2:40Speaker 1: complaining about they had to go get a mountain lion
- 2:43Speaker 1: depredation permit because the mountain lion is wiping out his ostriches,
- 2:52Speaker 1: and uh, it's an our seat in the news too,
- 2:57Speaker 1: Like you guys just have your own special set of things.
- 3:00Speaker 1: There was I was reading an article do you guys
- 3:04Speaker 1: now have There's an article in National Geographic talking about
- 3:07Speaker 1: how you guys now have like the world's only population
- 3:10Speaker 1: of blue eyed coyotes, which feels so intensely California, like
- 3:16Speaker 1: there's no there's like no way that Nebraska right is
- 3:20Speaker 1: gonna have blue eyed and Chuck Taylors and and of
- 3:27Speaker 1: course National Geographic manages to spin the fact that California
- 3:33Speaker 1: has blue eyed coyotes into an anti hunting article. It's
- 3:36Speaker 1: like if they did an article about my mom's cookies
- 3:40Speaker 1: and the end they'd be like, you know, people shouldn't
- 3:41Speaker 1: really be able to hunt. I was reading not long
- 3:46Speaker 1: with a lot of people wrote in this guy, I
- 3:48Speaker 1: want to get this place? Why Rio del Mar? Yeah, yeah,
- 3:52Speaker 1: what's the beach you're laughing about? New can Beach. That's
- 3:56Speaker 1: that's California. You're crazy, right, Therapy Can Beach, Beer Camp
- 3:59Speaker 1: Beach and a d dude recently shot. That's the time
- 4:03Speaker 1: I've ever heard of this. A man. Uh, he was
- 4:05Speaker 1: fined for this shot and killed a great white shark
- 4:09Speaker 1: with a twenty two rifle off Beer Camp Beach, over
- 4:13Speaker 1: five hundred pounds, over nine ft tall, nine ft long.
- 4:17Speaker 1: The guy only get so this is the international like
- 4:20Speaker 1: it's international conservation status of the great whitest vulnerable. The
- 4:24Speaker 1: guy gets only a five thousand dollar fine. Hold on,
- 4:27Speaker 1: are we playing that game right now? And it was
- 4:32Speaker 1: it washes up on the beach. People are like laying
- 4:35Speaker 1: down with it and taking pictures of it, and it
- 4:37Speaker 1: looks totally fine. But they did a knee cropsy on
- 4:39Speaker 1: it and had a and a guy that had had
- 4:41Speaker 1: shot at three times with a twenty two. He was fishing.
- 4:43Speaker 1: He's a commercial fisherman. Disney doesn't even lose his license. Uh,
- 4:47Speaker 1: shoots it three times with twenty two. One of the
- 4:49Speaker 1: shots separates the backbone. Hit hit it through the spine,
- 4:54Speaker 1: kills it. Washes up on a beach. They do knee
- 4:55Speaker 1: crops and find three twenty two rounds in it. Someone's like, oh, yeah,
- 4:58Speaker 1: there was a guy or like some squad fishermen are out,
- 5:01Speaker 1: they go and find him. They find the exact rifle
- 5:04Speaker 1: behind his seat, destroy the rifle and only a five
- 5:07Speaker 1: thousand dollar fine, two years probation, two years of probation.
- 5:10Speaker 1: He did get probation, he did two years from fishing.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Oh I didn't see that because we were being an
- 5:15Speaker 1: article recently in Ohio. They're they're they're harder in Ohio
- 5:18Speaker 1: for catching yellow perch than they are here for great
- 5:24Speaker 1: white sharks. There's been no yellow perch movies I've ever seen.
- 5:28Speaker 1: It's great. Instead of jaws, it's called little lips. I
- 5:37Speaker 1: want to talk about this case from it, this Ohio case,
- 5:39Speaker 1: because it was it's like, uh, this big poaching case
- 5:43Speaker 1: that came out. It's called why is it called the
- 5:48Speaker 1: north Shore north coast, North Coast, but it's the south
- 5:51Speaker 1: coast of Lake Erie where this occurred. Cover. Yeah. And
- 5:55Speaker 1: it's like a case where poaching gets so bad that
- 6:00Speaker 1: they that it actually earns the term racketeering. The largest
- 6:04Speaker 1: poaching case ever for Ohio Department and Natural Resources. They
- 6:09Speaker 1: wind up it's racketeering. So they wind up confiscating ninety
- 6:12Speaker 1: six deer in Turkey mounts, thirty five sets of antlers,
- 6:16Speaker 1: two dred pounds of flayed sport fish, four hundred pounds
- 6:19Speaker 1: of dbone venison, and process dear meat. And here's what
- 6:22Speaker 1: it gets interesting is that the racketeering ring is a
- 6:26Speaker 1: whole bunch. There's like forty some people involved in this.
- 6:29Speaker 1: They shoot hundreds of deer, bone the meat out and
- 6:33Speaker 1: take it to what's the guy smoking team and have
- 6:40Speaker 1: over the course of investigation, they take two thousand pounds
- 6:43Speaker 1: of deer meat down and turn it all into what
- 6:45Speaker 1: they call smokey's, so like smoke sticks. The processor then
- 6:51Speaker 1: sells the smokey sticks and they use the money to
- 6:54Speaker 1: buy to get their own ship stuffed. Is like this ring,
- 7:01Speaker 1: and so they're there, which earned them a money laundering
- 7:06Speaker 1: citation in there as well. Yeah, and communications fraud because
- 7:10Speaker 1: they would just shooting dear but then have like their
- 7:12Speaker 1: old lady called the deer in and act like she
- 7:14Speaker 1: got it, which makes it communications fraud and racketeering money. Yeah.
- 7:19Speaker 1: The smoking tease, he gets it for money laundering because
- 7:23Speaker 1: he's converting poached deer into smokey's, which I didn't even
- 7:27Speaker 1: know that term. They use smokey's in the article in
- 7:29Speaker 1: quotes one of these guys, he gets, uh, twenty two
- 7:36Speaker 1: months in prison. He can't hunt, fish or trap until.
- 7:41Speaker 1: I can't even do that much math um. Another guy
- 7:46Speaker 1: who in the same like racketeering ring, he goes out
- 7:49Speaker 1: and catches a bunch of walleye in lake Erie, takes
- 7:53Speaker 1: him in alive well, enters a walleye fishing context on
- 7:57Speaker 1: the river when and then he gets fraud. He gets
- 8:03Speaker 1: fraud by their theft by deception and has to pay
- 8:06Speaker 1: the bait and tackle shot back their money. Another dude
- 8:10Speaker 1: get he sells to undercover agents a hundred pounds of
- 8:13Speaker 1: perch and Wally and bass Filat's two investigators. In all,
- 8:18Speaker 1: it's forty six defendants charged with ninety one felonies seventy
- 8:23Speaker 1: three misdemeanors, forty six individuals assessed to combine one hundred
- 8:27Speaker 1: and thirty one thousand, seven hundred sixty three and fines
- 8:31Speaker 1: and restitution eight point six years jail time, seventy nine
- 8:36Speaker 1: years of hunting revocation, and eighteen thousand in court costs.
- 8:41Speaker 1: These sounds like the dudes I grew up with, though,
- 8:43Speaker 1: but nothing ever having on It was like kind of
- 8:50Speaker 1: like the dudes my my dad fished with dudes that
- 8:52Speaker 1: would But John Garry I could say his names. He's dead. Uh.
- 8:58Speaker 1: One day he was like flame perch and he was
- 9:00Speaker 1: telling me how he the U was telling me about
- 9:02Speaker 1: where he sells his perch flats, and he said he
- 9:05Speaker 1: was telling me that whenever you sell him flays, he's
- 9:08Speaker 1: always got his thumb on the scale, and he says
- 9:11Speaker 1: the when you're buying something from him, he's got this
- 9:14Speaker 1: finger under the scale. But yeah, these guys like it's
- 9:18Speaker 1: like I remember this John Gary. He was right down.
- 9:21Speaker 1: He had a notepad and he'd write down every book
- 9:23Speaker 1: he read, and he'd write down what happened every day
- 9:25Speaker 1: he fished. And this guy would fit. Everyone likes to
- 9:28Speaker 1: say they fished two hund days a year. But this
- 9:30Speaker 1: guy would legitimately fish two hundred days a year, but
- 9:32Speaker 1: he lived by himself. There's no way to account for
- 9:34Speaker 1: all the pan fish he caught. And he was just
- 9:36Speaker 1: like a UM racketeer. We had to look up what
- 9:42Speaker 1: racketeer meant. We want to make sure that that applied
- 9:47Speaker 1: in this case. Yeah, it's like, uh, basically an unlicensed
- 9:51Speaker 1: business with the intent too kind of deceived. I guess
- 9:58Speaker 1: like you have a of crime business. Seems like we
- 10:02Speaker 1: got it really figured out. We looked it up, and
- 10:05Speaker 1: then uh, it's still gonna be one of those words
- 10:08Speaker 1: where you're like, yeah, racketeering. I don't I don't wanna, Yeah,
- 10:14Speaker 1: I know, I just like I'm like, who man, that racketeering? Um?
- 10:19Speaker 1: So we also got an email from a guy. It's
- 10:22Speaker 1: like like poaching takes different form and these guys are
- 10:24Speaker 1: obviously professional like a holes, right, But we got an
- 10:27Speaker 1: email from a guy recently. The guy like he got
- 10:30Speaker 1: in trouble or he thought he was gonna be in trouble.
- 10:32Speaker 1: So he's in an area we can only shoot a buck,
- 10:33Speaker 1: and he accidentally shoots an analyst. Deer self calls up
- 10:37Speaker 1: and self reports. So the game warrings like I'll come over.
- 10:41Speaker 1: So he's he thinks real fast and he's like, how
- 10:43Speaker 1: can I make this look as good as possible? So
- 10:45Speaker 1: he said he like dresses the deer skins. It scrubs
- 10:50Speaker 1: it down real good. So when the game warding walks
- 10:52Speaker 1: and it's like ready to present and the game warding
- 10:55Speaker 1: comes in, he's so pleased with the thing. The guys
- 10:56Speaker 1: don't even get a fine nice Yeah, you like played
- 11:00Speaker 1: it right. Reporting. We're always they advocating on self reporting.
- 11:04Speaker 1: We get cool stories about people that do self report.
- 11:06Speaker 1: And when I'm not getting in any kind of trouble,
- 11:09Speaker 1: Um cayl, can you break down? Can you talk about
- 11:13Speaker 1: the Lazarus species that you just fished for? Yeah? Uh,
- 11:18Speaker 1: hunting cutthroat trout around Pyramid Laic. Anybody ever been over
- 11:23Speaker 1: there earlier? Four four people brought this up to me earlier,
- 11:27Speaker 1: like asking if I knew about it. There's a couple
- 11:29Speaker 1: of dudes in this room and are doing way better
- 11:32Speaker 1: than then we were doing. How many people have fished this?
- 11:35Speaker 1: What's the lake? Pyramid? Pyramid? Like everybody everybody fish very
- 11:41Speaker 1: well known, but this, uh I did see like as
- 11:47Speaker 1: far as like the lazarous effects. So Lazarus rose from
- 11:50Speaker 1: the dead. Jesus resurrected Lazarus after four dass. This is
- 11:55Speaker 1: in the good book, the Book of John. I believe um.
- 12:00Speaker 1: And and now it gets like lumped into the scientific term.
- 12:06Speaker 1: It's called um Lazarus tax on. When something disappears from
- 12:12Speaker 1: the archaeological record, no not archaeological, uh goes extinct? Do
- 12:18Speaker 1: you think it went extinct? But it wasn't. And then
- 12:20Speaker 1: all of a sudden it pops back back up, like
- 12:21Speaker 1: the seal camp right, like armored fish. Um. That one
- 12:25Speaker 1: was rediscovered in the fish market in Africa, right, that's
- 12:28Speaker 1: where everything gets rediscovered, like that fit. That's interesting fish
- 12:33Speaker 1: because what they realized they everyone thought it was extinct,
- 12:36Speaker 1: or the scientific community thought that fish was extinct. How
- 12:39Speaker 1: do you say it? And I know Cela Camp, Cela Camp,
- 12:42Speaker 1: and the winds up that it was that they a
- 12:45Speaker 1: guy discovers it in the fish market and they were
- 12:48Speaker 1: using the scales you don't need, like get those shitty
- 12:51Speaker 1: little tubes to patch tires and grocery stores. And it's
- 12:55Speaker 1: got the tin that comes off, the lid that comes off,
- 12:58Speaker 1: and it's got a scratchy on it your bike tube.
- 13:03Speaker 1: They would use that fish as scale at tire shops
- 13:08Speaker 1: two rough up the rubber for patching, and so they're
- 13:13Speaker 1: using it for that and the rest of the world
- 13:15Speaker 1: thinks that they don't exist anymore. Oh the tire fish. Yeah.
- 13:22Speaker 1: And then uh, the black footed ferret was a Lazarus species. Yeah.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Everybody thought they were extrapated from the landscape. And then
- 13:31Speaker 1: all of a sudden, it's like, oh, yeah, look what
- 13:33Speaker 1: I ran over. So what happened in here mid lake? Okay,
- 13:37Speaker 1: So two strains of color um. One was kind of
- 13:44Speaker 1: the river cutthroat. One was the lake cutthroat, very much
- 13:47Speaker 1: paraphrasing here um. But there's this pilot point strain of cutthroat,
- 13:54Speaker 1: which is like the big big dogs pilot peak and
- 14:00Speaker 1: thank you. And that is so they found like bone
- 14:06Speaker 1: fragments where they estimated that these fish got up to
- 14:09Speaker 1: like eighty pounds cutthroat. Um, Well, I just cut throat
- 14:13Speaker 1: in the world, and uh, they market fish those things,
- 14:18Speaker 1: ship them all over the country at one point, but
- 14:21Speaker 1: fed you know, the big California gold rush, uh, giant
- 14:26Speaker 1: cutthroat going from Pyramid Lake down to San Francisco, and
- 14:31Speaker 1: then in nine biologists is out on a ranch, so
- 14:37Speaker 1: they wipe them out or presumably wipe them out, presumably
- 14:41Speaker 1: wiped out biologists out on this uh private cattle ranch,
- 14:47Speaker 1: private ground. And um, it's like, boy, this fish looks odd.
- 14:51Speaker 1: This is a different looking cutthroat. Were you just doing
- 14:54Speaker 1: a little nod you're doing a little nod towards private
- 14:57Speaker 1: lands conservation? Yes, I caught that. Yeah, thank you, I thought. Yeah. Um,
- 15:09Speaker 1: and uh, it takes five of these fish, takes them
- 15:13Speaker 1: in the lab. Holy cow, this is our extinct cut
- 15:17Speaker 1: throat trout. Um. And they were able to resurrect raise
- 15:24Speaker 1: from the dead, this uh hunting cut throat trout. Now
- 15:29Speaker 1: they're there are today. Yeah, I caught one. How big?
- 15:32Speaker 1: Like she'llmove your hands? How big? Uh? The one I
- 15:35Speaker 1: caught was probably about somewhere in here. Seriously. Yeah, but
- 15:40Speaker 1: you were with the dude that caught a toad. Oh yeah,
- 15:43Speaker 1: and that thing was like hitting probably probably Yeah. When
- 15:51Speaker 1: we we did away, it was eighteen pounds and guys
- 15:55Speaker 1: fish them off step ladders. Yes, that just doesn't like
- 16:01Speaker 1: it is. I don't just like it. I don't dislike it.
- 16:04Speaker 1: I like it, but I just it's a hard dude.
- 16:06Speaker 1: This is like a full Michigan thing. You would love
- 16:09Speaker 1: it is. These are like the race cars, like the
- 16:12Speaker 1: souped up race cars of step ladders. Are dudes drinking beer?
- 16:16Speaker 1: Are dudes drinking beer caddies? There's neck caddies. There's bass
- 16:21Speaker 1: seats on top of step ladders. So you go down
- 16:25Speaker 1: to the to the ramp, launch whatever, what have you?
- 16:29Speaker 1: The access point and dudes walking down the beach with
- 16:33Speaker 1: a ladder and a fish rode. Yea, did you do
- 16:37Speaker 1: this on a ladder? Yes? Did you wear a life vest?
- 16:42Speaker 1: I did not? I did get bucked off though, yeah?
- 16:45Speaker 1: Doesname it for a little diving board on the end.
- 16:47Speaker 1: There's a little wave action, a little floaty floaty arms. Yeah, bomit.
- 16:52Speaker 1: You're sinking the legs into the mud, yes, yea. And
- 16:57Speaker 1: you're trying to get up fish? Are you just trying
- 16:59Speaker 1: to get up? Clear the water? Well a couple of
- 17:01Speaker 1: things like getting clear the water saves you from like
- 17:04Speaker 1: totally freezing your ass off and then um, yeah, you
- 17:08Speaker 1: know if the water clarities. I did see a couple
- 17:12Speaker 1: of fish like cruise and eat some midges off the surface,
- 17:14Speaker 1: which was awesome. It's like a seven pound cutthroat eating
- 17:18Speaker 1: the dry fly off the surface was But you're just
- 17:21Speaker 1: bobber fishing. Oh, full bobber fishing. Yeah, I couldn't be
- 17:25Speaker 1: called anything else. What do you mean a bober could
- 17:27Speaker 1: we could be called a strike indicator. I've heard it
- 17:29Speaker 1: call him. Well, it's only a strike indicator when there's
- 17:31Speaker 1: a strike Okay, the rest of the time, bob. Yeah,
- 17:38Speaker 1: it's like, you know, I always struggle with that because
- 17:41Speaker 1: we used to fish them all the time, and we
- 17:42Speaker 1: call them like bobber felt reductive. Yeah, it does. Strike
- 17:47Speaker 1: indicator felt pretentious, so we took to call them floats,
- 17:52Speaker 1: which felt like there's gonna be some combination like bob
- 17:55Speaker 1: indicator or something like that. Yeah, he's like, you're fishing
- 17:57Speaker 1: to float, you know. It's like you're not dressing it up.
- 17:59Speaker 1: But they do not act. It's not like your kids
- 18:02Speaker 1: zep Co Rod. Yeah, not the dog on zep Co
- 18:06Speaker 1: gets people fishing. Uh. And then talk about the dude
- 18:11Speaker 1: you met. Oh yeah, man said my new best friend
- 18:16Speaker 1: wear this no no, uh, super cool old cager but
- 18:22Speaker 1: he kind of he's got one of he's souped up,
- 18:24Speaker 1: you know, sports car type step ladders. It's got easy
- 18:28Speaker 1: even got wheels. Sorry, this is a six ft step ladder.
- 18:33Speaker 1: What what are the wheels doing? Well, he's an older dude,
- 18:37Speaker 1: so the wheels make it easier for him to like
- 18:40Speaker 1: drag his ladder down the beach. And I had I
- 18:46Speaker 1: was freezing, so I had gone back to the beach
- 18:48Speaker 1: to do some some walking and uh and he kind
- 18:53Speaker 1: of parked his ladder, you know, twenty to the left
- 18:56Speaker 1: of my ladder. What's like when you put a ladder
- 19:00Speaker 1: up how much? How much? The way it was explaining
- 19:02Speaker 1: me is like, you want, you know, thirty ft would
- 19:07Speaker 1: be great, but a lot of guys just fish fish
- 19:10Speaker 1: closer together for the bullshit and you know, sladder the
- 19:14Speaker 1: ladder conversation that's going up there. Yeah, And uh so
- 19:19Speaker 1: I went out there to grab my ladder and drag
- 19:21Speaker 1: it back in. And I was actually gonna go like
- 19:24Speaker 1: prospect some some new beach and Joe is like, what
- 19:28Speaker 1: are you doing? He's like, am I too close to you?
- 19:30Speaker 1: You want me to move? He's like, no, I'm just
- 19:33Speaker 1: gonna take He's like I'll move, Like, no, man, I'm
- 19:37Speaker 1: gonna just drag I've been standing out here for like
- 19:40Speaker 1: three hours. Well you should get back on there and
- 19:43Speaker 1: stand on there a little bit longer. He's like, and
- 19:46Speaker 1: I'll tell you another thing. I have no idea why
- 19:50Speaker 1: those people are cast in as far as they are.
- 19:52Speaker 1: The fish aren't out that far. The fish are right here.
- 19:55Speaker 1: He's like, I've already missed two in the time it
- 19:57Speaker 1: took you to walk out here. I'm like, I can't
- 20:02Speaker 1: argue with that. He's like, seriously, stand up there, just
- 20:05Speaker 1: wait it out a little bit. He's like, the big
- 20:07Speaker 1: ones are gonna start coming out. And about six minutes later,
- 20:12Speaker 1: he's got an eighteen pound cutthroat. Yeah. And this guy was,
- 20:17Speaker 1: I mean, it was just amazing, right, this is like
- 20:19Speaker 1: his spot. I'm like, oh, you come out here often
- 20:22Speaker 1: every week day for twenty years. Oh huh, Like I'm
- 20:29Speaker 1: from Montana. Uh, I really dedicated myself to this for
- 20:36Speaker 1: six hours. Um, and uh yeah, I mean he was
- 20:41Speaker 1: just phenomenal. He's like, yeah, he's like, here's my flies.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Check him out. He's like, guarantee it's the same fly
- 20:48Speaker 1: as you're using. And he just had like this, I'll
- 20:51Speaker 1: help you out as much as as I can, and
- 20:55Speaker 1: there's still no way you're gonna be as good as
- 20:56Speaker 1: I am at this. So it was just it was
- 21:00Speaker 1: awesome like this, it's phenomenal. Yeah. Yeah, that that go
- 21:05Speaker 1: against uh the John gear Rock maxim that I like
- 21:09Speaker 1: to quote is that when it comes to fishing, there's
- 21:11Speaker 1: the people you're with and then the assholes. Oh now,
- 21:16Speaker 1: and I'd be just layed at myself and everybody in
- 21:19Speaker 1: this room if I wasn't like when I heard this
- 21:22Speaker 1: like step ladder with wheels on it coming down the
- 21:27Speaker 1: Rocky Beach, I wasn't kind of like, is this jackass? Yeah?
- 21:33Speaker 1: But it turns out, Uh, super nice guy? Um did it?
- 21:39Speaker 1: I mean, explain everything? He's like, Nope, those bugs don't
- 21:44Speaker 1: exist here. Those bugs don't exist here. This is what
- 21:46Speaker 1: happens in this lake. This is how cold the water is. Um,
- 21:50Speaker 1: this is exactly why I wasn't standing down here freezing
- 21:53Speaker 1: my ass off all day and why I came down
- 21:55Speaker 1: right now and just like went through the whole thing.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Was like trailhead diplomacy is ladder diplomacy, step ladders, step ladlomacy. Yeah,
- 22:06Speaker 1: be like Joe, good dude. Uh, what'd you guys take?
- 22:10Speaker 1: Someone wrote in about this, what's you guys take on
- 22:13Speaker 1: the habit of the practice of naming your rifle? This
- 22:19Speaker 1: guy is observing that he thinks it's extremely childish. Really,
- 22:24Speaker 1: I think Daniel Boon. I think Daniel Boone. I'm not
- 22:28Speaker 1: mistaken his what's called tick liquor? Tick liquor. That's yeah,
- 22:34Speaker 1: that's one letter away from offensive. Maybe it's just got
- 22:40Speaker 1: spelled wrong. Childish. Yeah, Since then, historians have been baffled
- 22:48Speaker 1: by what. You can't lick a tick too small? These
- 23:01Speaker 1: things get out of hand quick. Who do want someone
- 23:04Speaker 1: licking your tick? I've never named one, but you know what,
- 23:10Speaker 1: my my my halibate rod has a name, but it
- 23:14Speaker 1: came with the name. The guy that made my halibate
- 23:16Speaker 1: rod named it the Widowmaker, which is like weird because
- 23:20Speaker 1: you don't think of like when you catch a halibit
- 23:23Speaker 1: that you've now like there's another one down there, like
- 23:29Speaker 1: all bumed that you caught that one. I was gonna
- 23:32Speaker 1: go up, How do you ever talk to it? I
- 23:35Speaker 1: feel like that's where it gets weird. You're like talking
- 23:37Speaker 1: to it using its name. No, and I do it
- 23:39Speaker 1: like kind of ironically when I say I'm gonna grab
- 23:41Speaker 1: the Widowmaker. Yeah, but I think if you start talking
- 23:43Speaker 1: to it, that's where it gets kind of kind of
- 23:45Speaker 1: caught bullshit on that because I've been fishing with you
- 23:48Speaker 1: and you're like, no, no, no, widowmaker's mind. They're they're
- 23:54Speaker 1: widowmaker will get him. You fish confidently, and that is
- 23:59Speaker 1: the widowmaker. Uh you honest? You have named a rifall Yeah, several? Yeah,
- 24:07Speaker 1: like what kind of like you know what call it is?
- 24:09Speaker 1: What it is? I do that as well, like you know,
- 24:12Speaker 1: like my one gun or whatever. The most recent one
- 24:18Speaker 1: that had a name that sucked for a while, I
- 24:20Speaker 1: sold it, but it was a three hundred short mag.
- 24:23Speaker 1: The first one that I owned is soon after they
- 24:25Speaker 1: came out. I got caught up in the hype of
- 24:28Speaker 1: three D short mag, did I? Yeah, it's a great
- 24:31Speaker 1: round And it was all black synthetic gun and had
- 24:35Speaker 1: the steel on it was black. Um, you're not gonna
- 24:38Speaker 1: say something real offensive, are you. But it was the
- 24:42Speaker 1: same time, come on, it was the same time that
- 24:48Speaker 1: killed Bill. Those movies were coming out, very good movies.
- 24:53Speaker 1: You remember the scene where I can't remember the name
- 24:57Speaker 1: the snake and handel hand on, Yeah and yes, and
- 25:05Speaker 1: the actor that opens up the briefcase full of money
- 25:09Speaker 1: is Michael something. Yeah, thank you Mattson And some cinophiles
- 25:17Speaker 1: out there tonight. He gets bit right, and he gets
- 25:21Speaker 1: bit again. And and as he's getting bit and struggling
- 25:24Speaker 1: on the floor, and as the Black mom is poison
- 25:27Speaker 1: is getting to him, they don't. They don't. Hannah proceeds
- 25:30Speaker 1: to read like a little know that she has about
- 25:34Speaker 1: like how venomous the black Mama is and how a
- 25:37Speaker 1: strike anywhere to the upper torso will cause imminent death.
- 25:42Speaker 1: I believe it's how she says it. Well, man, that's
- 25:45Speaker 1: kind of like my so. I called it the ye
- 25:56Speaker 1: you're gonna say. My guy's name is Darryll Hanny. You
- 25:58Speaker 1: ever take so I named it Daryl d h d
- 26:05Speaker 1: h Um. Yeah, So black Mama was a name, Yeah,
- 26:09Speaker 1: black Mama. Yeah. He stacked him up. Man worked for
- 26:14Speaker 1: this outfitter. Uh. And he had one named rifle. It
- 26:19Speaker 1: was a three mag whin Chester mag the better of
- 26:24Speaker 1: the two if you're comparing him. Uh and uh. That
- 26:30Speaker 1: rifle's name was Birdie, and it was its own entity.
- 26:38Speaker 1: And he'd always be like, yeah, old Birdie and I
- 26:40Speaker 1: were out, and it's like and I turned to Birdie.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Was was Birdie? Was Bertie ever out? But he wasn't out?
- 26:52Speaker 1: I was back home with Birdie. But I've never found
- 26:58Speaker 1: like an approach, you know, impressionable kid working for your
- 27:02Speaker 1: first outfitter. I was like, yeah, I'm gonna name Yeah,
- 27:06Speaker 1: I just can't. Never never clicked for me. I feel
- 27:09Speaker 1: like such a phony man. There's a lot of like
- 27:11Speaker 1: Dolores's and Louise. You hear that. There's like some common
- 27:15Speaker 1: names for lady names for rifles. Yeah, like old Betsy.
- 27:19Speaker 1: That's a good one. But you've never named one. Never
- 27:23Speaker 1: named just since since you guys can't really add to
- 27:26Speaker 1: the conversation here, let me tell you about another. But
- 27:30Speaker 1: please too. But don't think that me not having named
- 27:35Speaker 1: one means that I don't have the authority to speak
- 27:37Speaker 1: about this. I'm thinking. I'm thinking just that. I'm thinking
- 27:41Speaker 1: just that. Now, my good friend Scottie of Nebraska, he's
- 27:45Speaker 1: not giving away this. It's a shotgun. It's not a rifle.
- 27:48Speaker 1: But he's not given away the shotgun because it got
- 27:50Speaker 1: to be too much for him. Because he got blown
- 27:53Speaker 1: up in Afghanistan in the concussion that he received there.
- 27:59Speaker 1: He couldn't take shooting big Was he a contractor nefgamest?
- 28:02Speaker 1: That's right, Yeah, drove big rigs and yeah, I got
- 28:06Speaker 1: hit by I d but not as he wasn't a
- 28:08Speaker 1: service member, right, No, Um, but he has. And now
- 28:13Speaker 1: another friend of mine has the shotgun and it's a
- 28:16Speaker 1: single barrel ten y and um its name is thunder Breath.
- 28:29Speaker 1: But you don't tell the story without doing his voice.
- 28:33Speaker 1: Saudi's from Maine. And uh, you guys have heard a
- 28:36Speaker 1: lot of pronunciations of Janus over the years. And Scotty says,
- 28:41Speaker 1: you want that took he was gonna get away. That's
- 28:47Speaker 1: why I had to shoot him for you. This is
- 28:52Speaker 1: how my very first ever turkey that I got went.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Scotty was nice enough to have me out. Uh, And
- 29:00Speaker 1: I'd hunted for three or four days on my own
- 29:01Speaker 1: and uh, at that point I couldn't tell a hand,
- 29:05Speaker 1: you know, apart from a gobbler. And so the last
- 29:08Speaker 1: one he takes me out and uh, we're doing a
- 29:11Speaker 1: little Uh. He took me to some ground that we
- 29:13Speaker 1: hadn't haunted, some private ground friend of his. And when
- 29:15Speaker 1: we're cruising in his uh pickup truck, and we kind
- 29:19Speaker 1: of come over this role and this is we're coming
- 29:21Speaker 1: over the role. Scotty's looking over the dash and just
- 29:24Speaker 1: by the time I see him. He just he's a
- 29:26Speaker 1: he's got a um sticksheft pickup truck and it goes
- 29:28Speaker 1: into neutral and that truck just just comes back down
- 29:31Speaker 1: over the role. I'm like, oh man, it must have
- 29:35Speaker 1: been something. I didn't even see the birds, you know.
- 29:37Speaker 1: I'm like, all right, it's on now. So he's like,
- 29:40Speaker 1: come on, they didn't see us. So we hop back, Doc,
- 29:44Speaker 1: come on, you want to let's go, and we go
- 29:47Speaker 1: sneaking up this little ups this little knob and uh.
- 29:50Speaker 1: We get about ten feet from where you could actually
- 29:52Speaker 1: see over and he's like, stay down, they're gonna see you,
- 29:56Speaker 1: and he goes on up there. Come on, man, I
- 29:59Speaker 1: feel I'm pretty slick in the woods, you know. And
- 30:02Speaker 1: he's just like, stay back, stay back. So anyway, we
- 30:05Speaker 1: peek over and he comes back and he's like, let's go,
- 30:08Speaker 1: and we just do this like full on army commando,
- 30:11Speaker 1: run around basically just circumnavigate this I don't know terrain feature.
- 30:16Speaker 1: And we're getting down into a cannone creek and circle
- 30:18Speaker 1: around and pop up near a windmill and we go
- 30:20Speaker 1: belly crawling next to the windmill to the water tank
- 30:23Speaker 1: and they've gotten out to I don't know forty yards
- 30:25Speaker 1: or so, and he's like, I can't remember what he said,
- 30:30Speaker 1: you want to shoot that bird? So it's listen, man,
- 30:36Speaker 1: you're the only dude worse that accents and neat that
- 30:40Speaker 1: doesn't sound like everything is like, that's like sound like
- 30:44Speaker 1: maybe like a pilgroom or something. I don't want to
- 30:49Speaker 1: you have a blunderbuss. Yeah, my mind is like Americans
- 30:52Speaker 1: and everyone else speaks kind of like a Irish. You're Australians. Like, so,
- 30:57Speaker 1: I shoot the turkey and it's flopping over doing a
- 31:01Speaker 1: dead turkey should do. Instead, he just like puffs up
- 31:04Speaker 1: and all his feathers just fly everywhere. Obviously body shot him,
- 31:07Speaker 1: you know, And I'm still just like kind of calculating
- 31:10Speaker 1: everything in my head, like what I should do next,
- 31:12Speaker 1: and you know, putting the safety off on the shotgun,
- 31:14Speaker 1: and the bird takes flight and he's now gone another
- 31:17Speaker 1: twenty or thirty yards and he's in the air and
- 31:19Speaker 1: Scottie and Thunderbreath just jump out in front of me
- 31:23Speaker 1: and pow And I've never seen a turkey do this
- 31:25Speaker 1: this day, but at like seventy yards, a turkey just
- 31:27Speaker 1: did like a somersault through the air and then he said,
- 31:31Speaker 1: you want to go get your bood. So I walk
- 31:36Speaker 1: over there and the first still flapping and I'm walking
- 31:39Speaker 1: back and it's, you know, sperming and beating me and
- 31:41Speaker 1: I'm trying to stretch its neck and I'm getting beat
- 31:44Speaker 1: up by the turkey. And you want to give me
- 31:46Speaker 1: that bud? And he grabs it and goes and throws it,
- 31:51Speaker 1: you know, and then it finally lays there Dennis can
- 31:54Speaker 1: be and then again you want to get your bood.
- 31:59Speaker 1: That's how I got my first turkey. Yeah, if you
- 32:04Speaker 1: bring it up, because the guy recently wrote in um,
- 32:07Speaker 1: like you wing shot the turkey. But guys like why
- 32:10Speaker 1: is it uh oh, like, why is it so bad
- 32:15Speaker 1: to shoot a duck on the water or a pheasant
- 32:18Speaker 1: on the ground, but it's okay to shoot a turkey
- 32:21Speaker 1: on the ground and it's bad to shoot one flying?
- 32:27Speaker 1: Like who came up with that good question? Steve? Well,
- 32:33Speaker 1: the the flying turkey, I think you have a way
- 32:37Speaker 1: higher probability of a body shot. He's like the turkey
- 32:41Speaker 1: on the ground, it's you know, he got a lot
- 32:42Speaker 1: of necks there. Yeah, because this this guy's main he
- 32:45Speaker 1: was mainly exploring, like the morality or the ethics of
- 32:49Speaker 1: you know, like shooting ducks on the water. Yeah, but
- 32:51Speaker 1: you're talking to a dude, shoot a duck on the water.
- 32:57Speaker 1: I don't have a problem with it either. I've never
- 32:59Speaker 1: had a problem with it. I mean, if you were
- 33:01Speaker 1: to ask the duck, right, yeah, I mean he's like,
- 33:07Speaker 1: I don't really want to be shot in the air either,
- 33:09Speaker 1: to be honest with you, you know, I mean it's like, like,
- 33:11Speaker 1: who are you? Who are you? Ducks can't talk? We
- 33:15Speaker 1: know that, don't don't. Some water fowlers say that because
- 33:19Speaker 1: when they're on the water and their wings are folding
- 33:21Speaker 1: and they sort of protects the water is protecting some
- 33:24Speaker 1: of their you know, brass, the wings are protecting some
- 33:26Speaker 1: of their I'm a water fowler and I say that,
- 33:29Speaker 1: But I don't know if that's widely accepted. But yeah,
- 33:32Speaker 1: I think that it's. Well, how many shells are Like
- 33:35Speaker 1: when you say the saying like, like shooting ducks on
- 33:38Speaker 1: the water, you might say, like, you mean like they
- 33:39Speaker 1: get up and fly away? Because yeah, I think there's
- 33:44Speaker 1: a I think there's a that's a part of it.
- 33:45Speaker 1: Have you ever trained your shotgun on turkey and the
- 33:47Speaker 1: roost and thought about it. Yeah, yeah, I have. We
- 33:50Speaker 1: thought about it hard one time, and we got me
- 33:53Speaker 1: and my brother in the dark, crawled in under a
- 33:57Speaker 1: roost treat one time, and we're looking up very struggling
- 34:01Speaker 1: with this very question, and you could seem goblin up there.
- 34:06Speaker 1: I've had turkeys fly over my head at dusk, and
- 34:08Speaker 1: as as they're flying over, I'm thinking, I know where
- 34:10Speaker 1: he's going. I can probably get him. But just never
- 34:14Speaker 1: do you Just I can't can't bring myself to shoot
- 34:16Speaker 1: a turkey on on the roost. We're just reading that
- 34:18Speaker 1: study the other day. Were they in Colorado speaking to
- 34:23Speaker 1: roosting in Colorado. They were doing this thing with Miriam's turkeys. Um,
- 34:29Speaker 1: what was the percentage of time that a gobbler will
- 34:33Speaker 1: roost in the same tree? Do you remember this? I
- 34:37Speaker 1: do remember it, but the number escapes me very low.
- 34:43Speaker 1: But the biggest thing is they tend to like you
- 34:45Speaker 1: think they oh, they're going that same tree every night.
- 34:48Speaker 1: It was less than twenty of the time a gobbler
- 34:50Speaker 1: or roost in the same tree, and on average they
- 34:52Speaker 1: roost one thousand yards away from where they roosted the knight.
- 34:56Speaker 1: And that number increases during turkey season. They're in Colorado
- 35:02Speaker 1: in this study you know, in this study area on
- 35:05Speaker 1: Miriam's in Colorado. Um best post apocalyptic gun guy was
- 35:10Speaker 1: saying that he the guy was saying that this guy
- 35:18Speaker 1: wrote in him and his buddy like have this argument
- 35:21Speaker 1: the amount of energy to put people put into imagining,
- 35:26Speaker 1: like lusting for a post apocalyptic world certain types certain
- 35:32Speaker 1: types of people. Can we just say what we wouldn't use? Hell,
- 35:36Speaker 1: let me give you the two He's kind of laying
- 35:38Speaker 1: it out, like the two things. There's this he his
- 35:40Speaker 1: buddy has this idea that you'd want to be a
- 35:43Speaker 1: twenty two, so you have all this ammunition because you're
- 35:46Speaker 1: gonna be dealing with all these dogs that are attacking
- 35:48Speaker 1: you all the time. And the other guy feels like
- 35:53Speaker 1: there's gonna be a lot more wolves. The other guys like,
- 35:56Speaker 1: there's a lot more wolves and grizzlies. There'll be a
- 35:59Speaker 1: lot of wolves and grizzlies, and so you need a
- 36:01Speaker 1: high cat like a large rifle to deal with the
- 36:05Speaker 1: post apocalyptic world. Is there zombies? Let's just say no.
- 36:09Speaker 1: Let's say no. Let's say no, I'm just anti crossbow.
- 36:13Speaker 1: I'm the anti crossbow in the post apocalyptic the world.
- 36:15Speaker 1: There's a certain show where there's a fellow drungey fellow
- 36:18Speaker 1: with a mullet runs around shooting things in the head
- 36:20Speaker 1: with a crossbow, and like, come on, man, you're not
- 36:22Speaker 1: gonna run. You're not running crossbow. You'll be eating alive
- 36:25Speaker 1: while you're trying to cock it to get the next one.
- 36:28Speaker 1: That's a fact. So mean in days are not in
- 36:30Speaker 1: a lot of days are not even legal, So you
- 36:31Speaker 1: have to cope with that. You have to cope with that.
- 36:33Speaker 1: You'd be a poacher and and you'd be dead because
- 36:35Speaker 1: you'll be cocking your crossbow. You're eating alive. I'm just
- 36:38Speaker 1: gonna sit back, see what happens in California, and then
- 36:42Speaker 1: I'll make my decision. Do you got any input? And
- 36:52Speaker 1: you know, I like, why is it so hard to
- 36:54Speaker 1: entertain the idea for you? I mean, it just seems
- 36:58Speaker 1: like so easy post apocalyptic world. Yet I am still alive.
- 37:06Speaker 1: He game whatever this is coming from the guy red
- 37:11Speaker 1: Ryder bb gun, I know I have a ton of
- 37:14Speaker 1: I have a ton of thoughts about this, and it's
- 37:16Speaker 1: not about slash a lot of funds, but I'd like
- 37:18Speaker 1: to do it like the full boat. I just want
- 37:19Speaker 1: to suck my gun. I like my vehicle. I'm get
- 37:21Speaker 1: a van for sure, Like I'm gonna put like a
- 37:24Speaker 1: you know, snowplow on the front. I got a lot
- 37:27Speaker 1: of things I think about, but just not the gun.
- 37:28Speaker 1: So I'd like to paint the entire picture if we could.
- 37:32Speaker 1: You know, what are you doing? Honest, you're sitting back
- 37:34Speaker 1: and doing what Just wait and see what happens here.
- 37:36Speaker 1: First I figured this is gonna be ground zero where Yeah,
- 37:39Speaker 1: and we'll probably still be covering out on the news
- 37:41Speaker 1: in Montana. I'll be like, oh, that didn't work. That
- 37:43Speaker 1: did you can? You can email over and ask what's
- 37:47Speaker 1: been working out for everything? My thing about it and
- 37:51Speaker 1: we get like this question a lot, not a lot.
- 37:53Speaker 1: Somebody I'll be blogging right, somebody in California will be
- 37:56Speaker 1: belonging about like I figured, I knew it. I told
- 37:58Speaker 1: you so it was. It's crazy you still have the
- 38:01Speaker 1: internet in the post apocalyptic world. Yeah. Still, that's where
- 38:05Speaker 1: I wind up having problems with the thing because it
- 38:07Speaker 1: is this. It's so I think we're coming out of
- 38:10Speaker 1: it now. But it was really like cool for a
- 38:12Speaker 1: while to like be ready for the apocalypse, But then
- 38:15Speaker 1: you're banking on you're like spending. There's people that spend
- 38:18Speaker 1: sort of their entire lives getting ready for something that
- 38:23Speaker 1: by definition means most people are gone. And there's this
- 38:27Speaker 1: assumption that you're not. But the other thing is that
- 38:29Speaker 1: you can find examples all around the world have collapsed societies.
- 38:34Speaker 1: And the first thing that goes into collapse society is wildlife.
- 38:38Speaker 1: Right like you go to the Democratic Republic Congo, or
- 38:41Speaker 1: go to Syria, I mean, wildlife vanishes. So we have
- 38:44Speaker 1: this like fictitious idea that that society will collapse, You'll
- 38:50Speaker 1: be alive, everyone will be dead, and we'll have wildlife,
- 38:53Speaker 1: when in fact, a stateless society almost like it's almost
- 38:56Speaker 1: like by definition, stateless societies lose their animals, like the animal,
- 39:00Speaker 1: the wildlife we have we only have because we decided
- 39:03Speaker 1: to have it. It's not here accidentally. And with the
- 39:06Speaker 1: with the with all the regulatory structure and anything of
- 39:10Speaker 1: that that, like the imposes restraint removed, that's gone too.
- 39:18Speaker 1: So the best you really just buzz killed the apocalypse.
- 39:23Speaker 1: It was way cool to that to that monologue. Yeah,
- 39:28Speaker 1: it's big fun gonna be there. Oh yeah, speaking of
- 39:34Speaker 1: we're not supposed to talk about that speaking of what
- 39:37Speaker 1: like a big weird state. You guys living um has
- 39:41Speaker 1: anybody here seem a big Foot? I'm not gonna I'm
- 39:43Speaker 1: not gonna say a word. Yeah, yeah, I don't. I
- 39:48Speaker 1: won't talk about it. I'm it's curious anyone seem because
- 39:52Speaker 1: this is like, this is a lot of bigfoot country
- 39:54Speaker 1: north of here. I think you have said ye like
- 39:58Speaker 1: they yeah, sure there is. Yeah, you look on an
- 40:02Speaker 1: onyx match, you can see that one area that's where
- 40:04Speaker 1: they are. I want I want to grab a subject
- 40:06Speaker 1: that comes all the way from Norway. The guy from
- 40:08Speaker 1: Norway wrote in him and his wife were out hunting
- 40:11Speaker 1: black grouse, which we had to look up to verify
- 40:13Speaker 1: was a bird. It's a bird, black grouse. It looks
- 40:16Speaker 1: it's got the red eye comb. What's that whiskey or
- 40:19Speaker 1: scotch with the red grouse on it? Which is a
- 40:23Speaker 1: ptarm again basically famous grouse, famous grouse. It's got a
- 40:27Speaker 1: red eye comb like that grouse. But it's a black grouse.
- 40:30Speaker 1: That's not that capper Kyle Kelly, which is the thing
- 40:33Speaker 1: I most want to hunt. Yeah, yeah, someday in my
- 40:36Speaker 1: life I'd like to do that. I should contact this
- 40:38Speaker 1: Norway fella. So he's out with his wife and they
- 40:42Speaker 1: jump a black grouse and it heads off. He's all
- 40:48Speaker 1: whacked out. He says he went a hundred meters by wish,
- 40:51Speaker 1: he means a hundred yards roughly. He goes. So he
- 41:00Speaker 1: strikes off and him and his wife march in the
- 41:03Speaker 1: direction it went to go catch it, and it's wherever
- 41:05Speaker 1: it landed. And they get there and before he can
- 41:08Speaker 1: get there, a goss hawk kills the grouse. It's just
- 41:13Speaker 1: laying their warm dad bird takes off and he pulled.
- 41:16Speaker 1: He even said that this he presented the email. The
- 41:18Speaker 1: subject line is a moral question from Norway. Oh and
- 41:21Speaker 1: you point out that I want to tell you this,
- 41:22Speaker 1: your honest blouch where he's from, is paying So you
- 41:31Speaker 1: in a hunting story in Norway. Apparently you're like, and
- 41:34Speaker 1: I raised my rifle and paying pa like it doesn't
- 41:40Speaker 1: that's very a feat. Yeah, uh so, so he never
- 41:45Speaker 1: gets to paying paying. Is it immoral to take to steal?
- 41:54Speaker 1: To steal the bird from the bird. His wife stole
- 42:00Speaker 1: the black growls from the gosshawk because she felt, well,
- 42:03Speaker 1: I kicked it up. She has an assist at the
- 42:08Speaker 1: very least she should. She should have just taken one lobe.
- 42:16Speaker 1: I think, yeah, a wing, No take it. You have
- 42:23Speaker 1: hands and feet the bird it doesn't have those taken
- 42:25Speaker 1: any It's just it's that you think you just like
- 42:27Speaker 1: exploit the bird. Yeah, I'm exploiting the bird. I would
- 42:30Speaker 1: not have touched There's no way I would have touched that.
- 42:33Speaker 1: You have some like big bird respect, Like I just
- 42:35Speaker 1: feel like it's like, yeah, kind of, I feel like
- 42:37Speaker 1: you've lost fair and square. Man. Put it this way.
- 42:41Speaker 1: You kick up a bird and then it flies and
- 42:44Speaker 1: often dis iss year paying like, yeah, what are you
- 42:49Speaker 1: gonna go make the case? Are you gonna go make
- 42:50Speaker 1: the case to that guy? Yeah? But I can talk
- 42:52Speaker 1: to that guy, like, listen, guy, you good. Good for you.
- 42:56Speaker 1: If you were a bird, i'd take it. You're a
- 43:01Speaker 1: small little you're a small little bird or smaller. Yeah,
- 43:08Speaker 1: similar story. No, I don't know this is similar. I
- 43:11Speaker 1: can make this similar. We just got in the just
- 43:15Speaker 1: of the last un So the two thousand eight hunting season,
- 43:18Speaker 1: the guy who wrote us a letter drew a Utah
- 43:25Speaker 1: Henry Mountain. So there's a there's a buffalo herd in
- 43:27Speaker 1: the Henry Mountains in Utah. So he draws a cow bison,
- 43:31Speaker 1: Henry Mountains tag. They hunt their asses off and can't
- 43:33Speaker 1: find one. Oh, we met some people last night. They
- 43:36Speaker 1: got too. No, but they hunted ten days before they
- 43:40Speaker 1: found one. Yeah, there in this mountain range where they
- 43:43Speaker 1: give these tags out. I've applied for these tags in
- 43:45Speaker 1: the past. He was saying that the density, it's such
- 43:49Speaker 1: a low density. It's one per four square miles. So
- 43:56Speaker 1: they put in ten days and then he found they
- 43:59Speaker 1: put in ten days before they found him, and it
- 44:00Speaker 1: was a woman. She had a tag and she got one.
- 44:03Speaker 1: But his other mud rights in that they're hunting and
- 44:07Speaker 1: they're not finding anything, but an all of a sudden,
- 44:08Speaker 1: his buddy is like, get over here, get over here,
- 44:10Speaker 1: get over here. And he comes over and peers off
- 44:14Speaker 1: this rock ledge and there is so he has a
- 44:16Speaker 1: cow tag, a female tag, and there is what they
- 44:20Speaker 1: suspect to be a bull. Bet it down and they
- 44:26Speaker 1: observe it for a long time, and they're going by
- 44:28Speaker 1: the curvature of the horns and they're thinking it's a
- 44:30Speaker 1: it's a bull. So he can he can't get it,
- 44:33Speaker 1: and you watch it and watch it, watch it, and
- 44:34Speaker 1: eventually they get to want and to make a cell
- 44:37Speaker 1: phone video of it walking away. I don't Lord knows why.
- 44:40Speaker 1: He doesn't explain why, but they want a cell phone
- 44:41Speaker 1: be able walking away, so they decided to try to
- 44:44Speaker 1: spook it up, and they can't get it to spook
- 44:48Speaker 1: and even throws a rock down there, and it won't
- 44:50Speaker 1: get up. And they picked their way down there and
- 44:53Speaker 1: realize that it is stuck in a crack in the rocks.
- 44:58Speaker 1: It's like got his leg wedge and the rocks and
- 45:01Speaker 1: is laying there unable to move. They can stand up
- 45:05Speaker 1: and struggle, but it's stuck. So they still think it's
- 45:09Speaker 1: a bowl. And they try prying and poking and digging
- 45:13Speaker 1: and wrestling the thing out of there, but they don't
- 45:14Speaker 1: want to get hurt by it, and they exhaust all
- 45:18Speaker 1: the possibilities of trying to free this thing, and they're
- 45:21Speaker 1: getting ready to walk away when one of them finally
- 45:24Speaker 1: has a good I need to lift the tail up
- 45:28Speaker 1: and it's a cow, so paying and field tag. So
- 45:40Speaker 1: if you extend the goss hawk logic to an inanimate
- 45:44Speaker 1: object such as a rock, he took that rocks catch.
- 45:52Speaker 1: But I would have done nothing different, Like I would
- 45:55Speaker 1: have absolutely done what he done. Yeah, I don't like it.
- 46:00Speaker 1: You don't like, but you kind of have to. What
- 46:03Speaker 1: do you like about it? I just don't. It's not ideal. No,
- 46:08Speaker 1: it's not ideal. Yeah, I mean that's not what. Yeah,
- 46:15Speaker 1: you know. I I am very particular on my hunting
- 46:18Speaker 1: and I have like this idea of how a hunt
- 46:20Speaker 1: should go and if it doesn't, like go out kind
- 46:23Speaker 1: of follow through on my big ideas. A lot of
- 46:28Speaker 1: times I just don't pull the trigger. But that'd be
- 46:29Speaker 1: a hard one to if you were hungry, would be ideal?
- 46:32Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that'd be queen mother. I don't think it
- 46:35Speaker 1: would be ideal. It'd be like it be on it.
- 46:39Speaker 1: You couldn't anticipate it. No, you can't anticipate it. And
- 46:43Speaker 1: if you leave, you know what's going to perish? And
- 46:46Speaker 1: you didn't, I mean not that you know. I believe
- 46:47Speaker 1: when you treat recycling and all that, like nothing actually
- 46:49Speaker 1: goes to waste, right like out in that environment, it's
- 46:52Speaker 1: not it's not it will be consumed and write a
- 46:55Speaker 1: circle of life all that kind of stuff. But yeah,
- 46:58Speaker 1: I would have absolutely, but it still was the first day.
- 47:02Speaker 1: But also like were you like, man, I wonder like
- 47:06Speaker 1: how much struggling has this thing done, and has there's
- 47:09Speaker 1: been like is the meat going to be affected? Which
- 47:12Speaker 1: kind of is kind of like prick thinking at that point,
- 47:15Speaker 1: it's like it's all about me. How's it selfish? Yeah?
- 47:19Speaker 1: What would you done? Ni? Yeah? I was gonna say
- 47:22Speaker 1: in both those instances that it would depend on how
- 47:24Speaker 1: hungry you are, right, because if you're really hungry, sure
- 47:26Speaker 1: you're just gonna take the bird from the goss hock
- 47:28Speaker 1: and you're gonna kill the buffalo with its legs stuck.
- 47:31Speaker 1: But we don't ever have to face that question. But
- 47:34Speaker 1: what would you have done? Just knowing what I told
- 47:37Speaker 1: you with the buffalo? No, and it was a weekend
- 47:41Speaker 1: of the hunt and been tough hunt, probably would have
- 47:44Speaker 1: killed it for sure. Yeah, And then you know, people
- 47:48Speaker 1: come more. You got like the skull on the shelf,
- 47:51Speaker 1: You're like, you see that and you tell them what happened?
- 47:53Speaker 1: That's right, You're like, I before I killed this bison,
- 47:57Speaker 1: I lifted its tail up. I was just thinking the
- 48:02Speaker 1: same thing, like you've kind even know what I was
- 48:04Speaker 1: looking for? Put your head up a bison's ass. Yeah, Yeah,
- 48:09Speaker 1: there's no going back after that. What you're taking that
- 48:14Speaker 1: bison home? What was what was Larry's wife's name Emily. Emily.
- 48:23Speaker 1: That's right, Emily. She was wondering about this. What's that? Okay?
- 48:37Speaker 1: Can I talk about it? Your question? Yeah, I'm just joking.
- 48:40Speaker 1: It wasn't Emily wonderness. Okay, there's a fella. Let's just say,
- 48:44Speaker 1: let's just say there's a guy. He's a section. There's
- 48:49Speaker 1: a guy that was wondering and this is this is like,
- 48:51Speaker 1: this is a difficult thing to address. It's hard to
- 48:53Speaker 1: bring up. Uh, you process an animal, okay, and you
- 48:59Speaker 1: got an animal, and there's a there's a smell to it,
- 49:02Speaker 1: and we're all familiar with um. Has one ever noticed
- 49:06Speaker 1: that after that, one might uh, one might pick sent
- 49:13Speaker 1: some of those same orders around their own flagelence or
- 49:16Speaker 1: bobble movements. And he's proposed this. This individual has proposes
- 49:23Speaker 1: to family members. And some people think it's that sensation
- 49:25Speaker 1: of when you put garlic between your toes and feel
- 49:29Speaker 1: like you can later taste it. Or is it just
- 49:33Speaker 1: that it's a familiar smell and you tend to then
- 49:36Speaker 1: find that smell, you know, you recognize it in other areas.
- 49:41Speaker 1: I have no idea. This isn't something I've experienced, but
- 49:44Speaker 1: I do like to take all like I like to
- 49:46Speaker 1: take all things that get and and lay them out
- 49:49Speaker 1: to be helpful to people. I'm genuinely confused. Ye. Can
- 49:59Speaker 1: we go back to the garlic and toes? Okay? If
- 50:05Speaker 1: you have you've never done this? What? No? What was garlic? Yeah?
- 50:11Speaker 1: You take peel and crush a peel and crush clover
- 50:17Speaker 1: garlic and then jam it between your toes and wait
- 50:21Speaker 1: a while. I've had some boring nights. Wait a while,
- 50:31Speaker 1: and you will get to where you can taste the garlic,
- 50:37Speaker 1: or you can't but you think you can, and you've
- 50:42Speaker 1: been smoking what It works so well that the trick
- 50:46Speaker 1: is this? You need you tell someone We've done this
- 50:50Speaker 1: at my house. You tell someone, Um, I'm gonna put
- 50:54Speaker 1: something between your toes, but don't look, and then after Wow,
- 51:00Speaker 1: they'll be able to tell what it is. Dude, I
- 51:08Speaker 1: wish you had some in your toes right now? Got
- 51:14Speaker 1: there in the crowd. We can not back to the Okay,
- 51:17Speaker 1: the guy you any you got any to add there?
- 51:21Speaker 1: Should we hit the actual question? Yeah? I mean if
- 51:24Speaker 1: it's okay, Clara or whatever. Brad, you're not going on
- 51:28Speaker 1: the question. I'm not clear. I'm not clearer person. A
- 51:32Speaker 1: person observed he observed this phenomenon that that he experiences
- 51:37Speaker 1: where if when he you know, I'm just gonna move on.
- 51:45Speaker 1: This is a psychosomatic we really get into. So a
- 51:48Speaker 1: twenty year old person wrote in, and he's dating and
- 51:51Speaker 1: using dating apps. There's nothing to do with the there's
- 51:54Speaker 1: nothing to do with the the different person's nothing to
- 51:57Speaker 1: do with this has nothing to do with gutting an
- 51:59Speaker 1: animal and then feeling that it has affected the odor
- 52:03Speaker 1: of one's own flatulence. This is completely set off. The
- 52:07Speaker 1: subject where a guy saying he's digging through the rubble
- 52:11Speaker 1: of the modern dating world on dating apps, and this
- 52:14Speaker 1: guy is one of those closeted hunter types and he
- 52:18Speaker 1: won't tell he won't tell women that he meets that
- 52:24Speaker 1: he hunts. Yeah, I don't even have the luxury. Well,
- 52:30Speaker 1: I don't have luxury. Got married. If I wasn't married,
- 52:32Speaker 1: I wouldn't have the luxury anyways. But like that's some bullshit, man,
- 52:38Speaker 1: get it together, man, closet, get it together of virtue?
- 52:44Speaker 1: Ye put it out there. Yeah, i'd say, not only
- 52:48Speaker 1: do I haunt by a shoot ducks on the water.
- 52:52Speaker 1: Let me tell you a story about this goss hawk
- 52:54Speaker 1: that I know. I steal food from birds. I put
- 53:02Speaker 1: garlic between my toes, a fish off the ladder. Oh,
- 53:13Speaker 1: this is not a control. We're gonna have to adjust
- 53:16Speaker 1: your tender profile tonight. We got what have you been?
- 53:20Speaker 1: Have you been out there lately? No? I like how
- 53:22Speaker 1: you put it out. I think it's appropriate, Like I'm
- 53:25Speaker 1: you're sifting through the rubble of how did you put it?
- 53:28Speaker 1: That's what he how he put it. I'm a mid
- 53:31Speaker 1: late he doesn't know how damn old he is. He's
- 53:36Speaker 1: no wonder. He's like, this guy is like suffering from
- 53:38Speaker 1: some personal problems. I'm a mid to late year old
- 53:42Speaker 1: male sifting through the rubble that is the dating world.
- 53:46Speaker 1: Well done. You know what if you were, if you
- 53:49Speaker 1: would come out and just be upfront about what kind
- 53:52Speaker 1: of feller you were, you might not be sifting through rubble.
- 53:55Speaker 1: You might be like climbing the tower. We talked about
- 53:57Speaker 1: this in the office, about hunters only dot com where
- 54:00Speaker 1: it would be like a dating site where it's hunters only. Yeah,
- 54:03Speaker 1: because they got Christians only, they got all kinds of
- 54:05Speaker 1: farmers only. Doctor, why not hunters only dot com? You
- 54:08Speaker 1: have your ripping grin, right, on there. It would be
- 54:10Speaker 1: a good website because farmers only, I gather I think
- 54:13Speaker 1: there's a lot of non farmers, Cal being one of them.
- 54:17Speaker 1: He's probably never Cal. Have you ever dated on the
- 54:23Speaker 1: on the internet there? Because I I we all. I
- 54:24Speaker 1: think we all probably got married before it was prevalent.
- 54:27Speaker 1: I missed it. I missed. It's like I missed a
- 54:29Speaker 1: good old day, you know, like the good old days
- 54:30Speaker 1: of dating, I like totally missed. Back then, you had
- 54:32Speaker 1: to like get ship faced if you wanted to go
- 54:34Speaker 1: on a date, because you yeah to go down and
- 54:38Speaker 1: put in the time. Man, I've never swiped a lady
- 54:41Speaker 1: any really any direction, but never swiped anybody. Right. You had, like,
- 54:46Speaker 1: you know, drink a bottle of Boons in the shower,
- 54:48Speaker 1: go down and have a long Island ice tea and
- 54:50Speaker 1: then start talking and then once you got to the
- 54:54Speaker 1: garlic in your toes, the day was over. My buddy
- 54:58Speaker 1: Ronnie was just telling me about a guy that he
- 55:00Speaker 1: who's in the dating game and he still does the
- 55:02Speaker 1: old passioned way in bars, but he uh carries a
- 55:05Speaker 1: thing of tic TACs in his pocket and he reaches
- 55:08Speaker 1: in his pocket and rattles are like a rattlesnake and says,
- 55:11Speaker 1: there's a snake in my pants, and he says it's this,
- 55:14Speaker 1: he says, he says that it works. I started, I
- 55:18Speaker 1: started doing to my wife and I haven't gotten anywhere
- 55:20Speaker 1: with her. That's a good ad for tick tacks. But
- 55:28Speaker 1: I was using those orange tic TACs and my kid's hand.
- 55:30Speaker 1: Now I was rattling to my wife and she's just
- 55:32Speaker 1: like having none of it. Another question, it's kind of
- 55:37Speaker 1: like same vein is post apocalyptic? Guns? Is is U
- 55:40Speaker 1: when it comes to backpack and you like spoons or forks? No,
- 55:47Speaker 1: that's like that's like the middle of the road centrist
- 55:50Speaker 1: bullshit right there. That's like fence sitters. Those guys are
- 55:55Speaker 1: the fence sitters. You know. Well, I'm pro nuanced. I
- 55:58Speaker 1: feel like that's the prone nuance, very nuance. It's got
- 56:01Speaker 1: some curvature and some spiking things at the end. It's
- 56:03Speaker 1: very nuanced. Yeah, I'm a long uh fork. I feel
- 56:08Speaker 1: like the natural world is nothing but like fork things,
- 56:14Speaker 1: pokey sticks, knife tips. Like I'm never out in the
- 56:17Speaker 1: woods and be like, man if I only had a fork. Yeah,
- 56:22Speaker 1: I feel like the meals that we eat out there
- 56:25Speaker 1: aren't sophisticated enough for a fork, right, And it's like,
- 56:30Speaker 1: if there's some time when you need a fork, your
- 56:33Speaker 1: knife will do the trick. Yeah, like you don't like
- 56:36Speaker 1: tuck in your napkin and ship like you And yeah,
- 56:41Speaker 1: it's a blunt object. I guess just that one hunt
- 56:44Speaker 1: where where the helicopter took us in and then with
- 56:48Speaker 1: the Hollywood people. Yeah, we had to use the small
- 56:51Speaker 1: fork from first one from the Johnny that's you salad
- 56:55Speaker 1: for big Like I, we've taken to run and almost
- 57:03Speaker 1: exclusively like big long handled spoons, which are meant for
- 57:07Speaker 1: digging into, so you don't you don't soil your knuckles
- 57:14Speaker 1: eating freeze dry. In a moment of weakness around Christmas time,
- 57:18Speaker 1: I bought myself a titanium spoon. That's what I have,
- 57:21Speaker 1: like the long one. Uh. And I got suckered in
- 57:26Speaker 1: because it also had like a table of measurement on
- 57:29Speaker 1: there as well, and I like everything to have more
- 57:32Speaker 1: than one job. And I was like, wow, that's kind
- 57:33Speaker 1: of sweet. So now you did, you're able to ditch
- 57:36Speaker 1: the measuring cup and just run the spoon. It's got
- 57:40Speaker 1: a toothbrush. On the other hand, it's but like the dirt,
- 57:43Speaker 1: cheap long plastic g s I spoons I think are
- 57:49Speaker 1: better talk about. It's kind of off white. Yeah, it
- 57:55Speaker 1: flexes too much. You can't get into the corners and
- 57:59Speaker 1: you don't get a good stair. It's it's actually actually
- 58:03Speaker 1: weighs less than than the titanium spoon. What I find
- 58:08Speaker 1: the titanium gets wicked, hock. What I find because everyone
- 58:13Speaker 1: now has the same Like most people I know have
- 58:15Speaker 1: the same spoon. What is that spoon? Speaking of name
- 58:19Speaker 1: and ship, what's your spoon's name? Dope V notch? That's childish.
- 58:27Speaker 1: Well no, because here's the thing, people will everyone owns.
- 58:29Speaker 1: Everyone that I know owns the same spoon. I don't
- 58:32Speaker 1: know what it is. It's a titanium spoon. It's like
- 58:36Speaker 1: we usually just wipe out a size trout. Is that long?
- 58:41Speaker 1: See the summit titanium spoon and something like the camera
- 58:45Speaker 1: guys are wrap gaffe tape of various colors around their spoon.
- 58:48Speaker 1: But then that gets soiled. So I take my the
- 58:52Speaker 1: file and my multi tool and I all my stuff.
- 58:57Speaker 1: I caught two V notches and all my ship, all
- 59:00Speaker 1: my stuff. So I cut two V notches in my spoon.
- 59:04Speaker 1: I called the double V notch why too? Why not one?
- 59:07Speaker 1: It seems like a extra work. I saw someone else
- 59:09Speaker 1: baby do that. I just wanted to have to in air,
- 59:11Speaker 1: and I like cutting the thing, and it's like a
- 59:15Speaker 1: thing I like enjoy doing. I do that with my
- 59:17Speaker 1: I do my sleeping pad too. I kind of it keeps,
- 59:21Speaker 1: it keeps popping. I don't know what that's. Yeah, that's
- 59:23Speaker 1: sleeping pad with the two holes. Um, and I did that.
- 59:27Speaker 1: I did it to my my steep country knife. I
- 59:30Speaker 1: cut two things in there. And then someone was like, oh,
- 59:33Speaker 1: does that mean you've made two kills since you've got that?
- 59:36Speaker 1: And I was like, oh no, You're like, well this
- 59:37Speaker 1: is but yeah, the double V notche. But no spoons
- 59:42Speaker 1: all the way, man spoons all the way. Everybody out
- 59:45Speaker 1: there is into the sport. Sports. Dude, there are sticks.
- 59:50Speaker 1: You have a knife fingers. Yeah, I'm not saying I.
- 59:57Speaker 1: I did a lot of early season, no dove. I
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: was packing the salmon packets and uh, there's a shop
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: and catch him there that if you went in for lunch,
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: they had like a Mondo bucket of the wooden chopsticks.
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: Sorry for whatever they were serving for lunch. I wasn't
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: buying it, but I was grabbing a handful of the chopsticks.
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: Um and smash up that salmon and rock the chopsticks.
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: It was great and then just go like stove with
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: cold foot. Yeah you took sticks in the woods, Yeah,
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: yes I do. Did you bring it? Did you bring
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: your hands? I brought some grass to make a fire
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: and a little back. We talked about that. They were
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: clean sticks. Do you know him? Do you know what
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: Kurt Roscoe? Yeah? Yeah, your to hear what he does
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: freeze dry food because he doesn't like to carry a
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: stove around. He around noon puts the water in the
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: freeze dry pack called cold because by dinner, Wow, it'll
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: be edible and just eats room like cold ass freeze
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: dry and that has never like exploded all over his
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: You know, I didn't ask him about that, but it's
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: a great question packing that around. Yeah, you know someone
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: wrote in that he's harder and woodpecker lips. We've talked
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: to multiple people that have tried the Kurt Roscoe method
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: of or the cur Roscoe back country menu and camp
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: come back and said, I was miserable. It can wreak
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: havoc on your gut eating like impron like read like
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: beans that aren't totally made back normal again, you want
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: to talk about a gut pile? Uh? Guy wrote in
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: about um, it's like the weird little deer hunting things.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: Guy wrote in that He's like, do you think it's
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: a good idea if I put a mannequin in my
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: hunting blind all year so the deer get used to
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: being someone in the area. Yeah, that's the best question.
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: That's great. You should dress it like you put your
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: clothes on it. Well. In the same week, a guy wrote,
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: and he's saying, like, why if, why don't I just
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: keep like I'll wear clothes and I'll put my clothes
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: in a pile on my tree stand so that the
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: deer in the area become accustomed to my smell. But
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: and I like, you're kind of like sure, but I
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: just don't. I don't know. I feel like you're tipping
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: in some weird direction. Oh for sure. But I think
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: it's kind of beautiful too, because I that's what so
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: much like, go away from tradition, Like you got this
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: whole wild world out there to mess with. Yah, I
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: like it invites experimentation. Yeah, exactly. Rebel little old spice
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: on there. And but there's moment you gotta just realize
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: when you're carrying a mannequin out through the field and
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: it's like, what the funk am I doing here? Like?
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: Am I really? Like? Really? Guy walks about a step
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: ladder and a mannequin? Am I really that into this? Like?
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: Is that really where up going? Um? Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: I can't. Like, I just feel like I don't know
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: why I feel that it's bad to do that. I say,
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: get weird, dude, I can't. You can maybe even make
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: like a little scene because you could just bring out
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: your dope and buck decoys at the same time, bring
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: a couple of mannequins and then so when the buck
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: comes out on the field, he just looks down. He's like, Oh,
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: everybody's just hanging out together. You know, have a little
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: card They got a little card table set up a
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: little outstretched. I feel like that's a slippery slope. Then
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: you're gonna be starting to put mannequins in different places
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: they shouldn't be. If that works, okay, Uh. Another guy
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: wants to know this, Um, if you how does he
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: want to put it? He includes this, It has me
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: that if you it's about if you're gonna die in
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: a in an outdoor wilderness disaster accident, but he but
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: he prefaces it by saying if you knew you were
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: gonna die anyway, which I feel like has implications, but
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: I don't know what they are. So it's like, I
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: guess it just makes it easier, Like God comes down
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: and says you you now have to die, um, and
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: you can pick how you would like it to happen,
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: any wilderness accident or whatever. Predator avalanche, Okay, what do
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: you like? What do you get into? Yeah? I thought
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: the question is gonna be like, how are you gonna
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: prepare for this? But no, no, he's got a prepper.
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: This dude's a fatalist. Oh man. Yeah, it's just like
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: in the outdoors. Yeah, probably on a surfboard, drinking a
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: beer with some fireworks and twenty two great white shark
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: keeps men something cool like that. Though you're in a
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: jet ski your kids on the beach be like, yeah, dah, yeah,
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: I'm on a jet ski. Probably it's on fire, but
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: it's a great white the probably, so it's all that.
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: But it's like leading up to a shark. Yeah, I
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: want people to think, Oh, that's how he's gonna get it,
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: But no, no, he survived. He's in the water, great white. Yeah,
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: I like I I fall two different directions on them, right,
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: which is one that would be a grizzly because man,
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: you know the experience of that. But then I also
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: think that way back up, what do you want? Well, yeah,
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: but afterwards you're not gonna get to hang out and
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: enjoy like your past experience anymore. Now you're like laying out.
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: Now you're like laying out. Um, You're you're laying out
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: a rather grim afterlife scenario. Yes so, but okay, okay,
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: ivascilate between the two extremes. One would be freezing to death.
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: Would you lose your sense like if anyman has ever
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: been hypothermic, You lose your you lose like your wherewithal
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: and then you have that phenomenon called paradoxical dressing. Or
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: it'd be like the struggle with a wild beast, not
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: some middle ground ship like a tree falling on you. No, take, ma'am.
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: You ever see a Royal tennan bombs right? A couple
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: of times? Phenomenal movie, But you know at the end
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: he's got this tombstone, and it's like his dying request
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: is and the tombstone reads like died saving his family
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: from a destroyed sinking battleship. Right, it was total bullship
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: Gene Hackman, right, Yes, uh little Bill from the Unforgiven,
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: So like apply that to uh Jeremiah Johnson. Right. And
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: he comes across the old trapper in the woods, you
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: know that where he gets uh, the dude buried up
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: to his neck in the sand, know, hatch Jack's hatch Jack.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: And he gets he like leaves this little like, hey,
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: you get the rifle that killed the bear that killed
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: me type of deal. So I'd kind of like combine
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: the two where I would get myself into a situation
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: where somebody would inevitably find me, but maybe I would
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: like give my rifle barrel just like an ever so
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: slight little tweak to where they're not gonna be able
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: to hit ship with it, but lay out this amazing story.
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: That's a great point. Hatchet Jack did the two I
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: don't even think about that. The greatest movies ever made.
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: Hatchet Jack did the two things. He did both my extremes.
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: He got mauled and then frols of death that's what
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: I want that. Um, that's tough one though, Yeah, what
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: about last words? He like, I'd want to have some
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: kind of last words that were impactful sons. I think
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: he could die happy though, with like a well played
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: joke where you're like, eventually somebody's gonna find me read
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: this note. It's gonna be great. Yeah, might be like
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: damn jet Ski. We with a guy rolled into us
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: once and we're talking about what we wanted to have
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: into our bodies actually died, and a guy wrote in
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: that he wanted to have his kind of dried out
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: out in the woods. So he's kind of pointing, but
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: have it be this point that I just absolutely nothing,
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: just a mess with everyone that found him, and they'd
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: go over just dying to know what it was over there.
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: But he's was like, it's just bad because what else
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: do you do with your dead people? Just burn them
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: up nowadays doesn't do anybody any good. Um. In the
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: same vein what's the best they like, the best scar
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: that you had have from some kind of outdoor venture.
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: I got a good scar, but it's not from and
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: like it's very weird life I have led. Let me
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: tell you, Um, I've never been like thrown in jail
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: despite my best efforts. I've never you know, I've been
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: in some situations in the woods where I'm like, well
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: that's it, and uh here I am. But I have
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: this scar on my shoulder from leaning back at my
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: desk with a cup of coffee. And I have no
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: clue to this day what happened, but I ended up
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: flat on my back with that cup of coffee on
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: my shoulder and I this wicked scarf from the scalding
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: cup of coffee. And it's just like a great reminder
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: of like the humor in life. Right, that's my scar.
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: You know, Well you want to think you got some
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: cool thing we just got from like being a don't
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: mass at your desk some day, Like see that, kids,
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: that's hot coffee. I'm a riddles decaff you anything. He's
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: gotta have something. I've got a few scars, um, but
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: the one that happened kind of outdoors, the hunting related scars.
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: Don't talk about what I think you're in top about.
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: It's not right here, is it? And That's not what
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: I'm gonna talk about. Um. But I had let a
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: buddy of mine who was coming up to hunt with
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: me at in Colorado after we've been done guiding, who's
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: gonna come up and hunt? I think, I don't know.
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: And the third season, maybe fourth season, we're gonna hunt Elk.
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: And he didn't have a rifle, and um, I was
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: gonna borrow a rifle and let him borrow mine so
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: that I didn't have to let him be borrowing my
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: buddies rifle. Right, So I was the one responsible for
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: my buddys. I let Chris borrow the black Mamba, and
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: I took a three d weather be Did you say
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: something like careful bite? No? So, but I took a
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: three hundred weather be that I can't remember that if
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: she had a name. They're always females, aren't they. Why
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: is that? Well? Yeah, but that's like that ship sailed now, man,
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: they started naming storms after dudes, now really, yeah, you
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: know that. I didn't know that all these storms women's names,
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: and the storm come and kill everybody and women got pissed.
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: Now they alternate. Now there's like storms like Bob came ye, Like,
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: oh man, Bob used to go by Robert. But yeah,
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: when when Bob blew through here? You know, so the
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: three weather be which black Mamba No One Nameless UM.
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: It was rigged out very ultra light weight, super lightweight
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: stock and as you know that going has a lot
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: of kick um. The three weather be likes to balance. Well.
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: The first elk that week, This is back in the
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: day in Colorado were like every year you could have
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: to count tags. So I was doubled up that week.
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: And the first elk that I get into um for
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: some whatever, for whatever reason, but I'm not hanging onto
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: the rifle and I touched off and that thing come
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: comes back, and uh, I just got blood, you know,
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: in my eyes. So I've got this nice cut right here.
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: But I get back to camp and I kind of
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: cleaned it up and look at him like it's not
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: too bad, you know, it's it's just slight. You know,
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: it's not gonna scar. A few days go by, kind
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: of starts, you know, closing up, and there's really not
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: like a big, great, big um scab or nothing for him.
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: And I was sweet, but I'm still hung with the rifle.
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: And the last evening of the hunt, I get another
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: shot at a cow and somehow forget that this gun's
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: got a ton of recoil and the same thing I
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: get into some awkward position and I'm not really hanging
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: onto it, and I touched off and wam so twice
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: in one week. And so now that's why I have
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: that nice scope scar between my eyes. I know a
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: lot of people to have those. Remember something, My brother
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: one time, he was real sick. He had like the flute.
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: And now I'm watching him and I can't figure out
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: what's going on with him. Like we were on either
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: side of this valley and I hear him and I
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: hear him shooting. I look over and I'm looking at
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: is trying to figure out what's in the grass. He
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: shot something and he's vomiting. But also his face is
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: covered in blood and so he already had the flu.
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: And then he like cut his face open, and it
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: was kind of a miserable sight. I dragging dragging his
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: deer back like that. You know you got nothing? I got, man,
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: I got nothing. I feel I feel sad about this.
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: I'm gonna go out and cut something up. So I
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: got a story. These like date like this, beautiful hands
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: that are soft, soft hands. It's a it could be
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: a testament to how skilled you are. No, it's not. No,
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: it's definitely not that, Uh, the only one, like my
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: kind of main outdoor one. This is this would drive
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: Mark Canyon crazy because you know, like all this like
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: Super Joe Ninja white Tail stuff, you know. But we're
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: out like in Michigan Open Day deer seasons November. So
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: at a round eleven PM on November fourteen, roughut in
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: the woods building ground blinds in the dark. Uh, and
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: I waylaid my leg with a machete and that was it.
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: And I don't even know I did. I thought I
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: hit with the back in a while later my brother
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: wondered why my car hard overalls were all read that
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: was the only one. Yeah, lifetime of safe practices. Yeah,
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: these are terrible scar stories. No, I don't. I want
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: to be like, well then I got that. Yeah, gressly
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: be just in my real foot. Okay, one last one
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: before we getting to see him through the bullshit is uh,
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: what did you learn? I mean, it's an infinite number.
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: There's an infinite number of answers, all the prefaces where
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: I even say it, but pick one. What did you
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: learn from your dad? You look at me? Anyone everyone
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: hunting outdoor. Later we're just guess that's kind of like
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: the I don't think he's talking about He's like you like,
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: you know, when your balance and your check buk. You know, Yeah,
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: I would say I think that that's probably what he's getting.
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: It's that's probably what he's driving at angling camping that
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: rassling animals, you know, m hm hm. Yannie sounds the
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: most inquisitive. I'll let him go. Well you met Yanni's dad.
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, well I guess I can. I can
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: tee off. It's uh, it's probably is to stay positive
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: out there in the woods. Always be thinking, like you're
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: just about to come up on something. He's gotta hashtag,
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: he's gonna start using. What is it? Keep smiling? Keep smiling?
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: Smiling that's your hashtag, not stay positive. There's no hammering,
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: but only smiling, just smiling. Um. But yeah, I mean,
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: and I don't think he actually like went out to
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: teach me that, like for you know, to be successful hunting.
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: It was more of a I think a life lass.
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: And my dad was definitely always pushing to be looking
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: on the brighter side of things and too always know
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: that we had a choice how we really reacted to.
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: You know, most of time, if it's something good, you
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: react good. But even if it's something bad that happens
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: to you. He taught us that we had a choice
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: how we wanted to react to it. Right, you can
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: react positively or negatively make the best out of a situation.
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: But you know, just that constant positive good attitude, you know.
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: And that's something we talked about this last night. It's
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: like an argument we have me and your honest which
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: is I feel that, uh, because I'm not I'm not
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: into I'm not into metaphysics too much. So I feel
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: that the what's in your brain ends at your skull. Okay,
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: so that you could have all you could have a
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: negative mind frame, but if you're sharp enough to have
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: it be that your physical execution doesn't betray your mind frame,
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: you will have the same out home then if you
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: had a positive thought in your head. But Yanni believes
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: that you push out a sort of energy wall of
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: positivity or negativity which impacts animate objects kind of kind
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: of I think. So I believe that, at least for
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: me personally, I might not be how did you put it,
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: um sharp enough to separate the two? That was poor.
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: It was poor word choice. I didn't mean sharp enough.
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: But you know what, but no, it's it's fine, But yeah,
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: I might not have the ability to separate those two.
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: So that don't made me live with the word choice.
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: I don't care, um, but yeah, I can't separate the two.
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: And so I know if I'm like having a bad attitude,
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: negative attitude and being pessimistic and thinking, man, we're probably
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: not gonna kill something, that I just feel like, yes,
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: that's gonna affect what I'm doing and turn it into
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: probably not killing something. But how are you able to control,
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: like people say, stay positive, think positive, how are you
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: able to control what part of your brain controls the
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: other part of your brain? You only have one mind,
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: So if that mind is feeling a certain way, what
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: part of it is able to manipulate that part. It's
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: not like there's two brains and one's telling one how
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: to be Like, if your brain feels negative, what in
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: it is telling it convincing it to not feel that way?
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: You don't ever want to have a two way conversation
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: with yourself ever, No, I can't say I can't be
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: like if I did, I just tell myself to be
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: super happy all the time. You know what my dad
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: taught me, He said, if a conversation goes on too long,
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: always step in. Uh now I, oh yeah, old man,
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: what's your old man telling? Oh man, Yanni's dad taught
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: him to be positive, Be positive, man. I I feel
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: like my dad's teachings were just, uh, we're so consistent
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: that I couldn't just say, like he taught me this
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: one thing, be positi or whatever. But it was be present,
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: like enjoy what you're doing and be with people you
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: love what you're doing it. When I was coming up
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: hunting with my dad, it was less about the deer,
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: less about the act of hunting, but it was more
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: just about being together, you know, being together with For me,
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: it was just following this large and a life figure
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: around in the woods. And so he didn't really say it,
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: never really said that to me. He followed me, son,
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: but he he walked and I followed. So I learned
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: that just being there with him and him appreciating that
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: I'm there and me you know, giving that back to
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: him was enough to to propel me to you know,
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: hunt the rest of my life. So it wasn't one
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: thing he said to me, was just his presence there
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: and his willingness to take me wherever I wanted to go.
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: Know that was pretty metaphysical. Cal oh the old man.
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: Um so yeah, not the sharpest woodsman out there. Uh.
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: And he would tell anybody that himself. But what he
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: did do was spend the time, uh, because I was
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: infatuated with being outside. Um and as much as he
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: really wanted me to be like into you know, a
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: fun sunday watching ESPN and college sports and things like that, Oh,
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: he tried to be a bad influence on you. It
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: was very very palpable, Like I knew this is what
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: he wanted to do, but he was willing to, you know,
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: take me on the woods again, not his comfort zone,
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: but spent the time. And I never really knew this.
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, So I mean that's that's a great lesson
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: and something that I certainly keep in mind all the time.
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: It's like, so he bent in your direction, yep, because
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: he just knew. He was like, yeah, this is what
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: this kid fell off with, apple rolled far from the tree.
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: But I'm gonna do what I can to help him along,
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: help him along. Yeah. Yeah, it's not a word I
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: say very often. Um. Yeah, yeah, So I mean that
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: that was a good lesson for me. You know, it's
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: like and then a lot of what I've done in life,
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: UM is helping folks in situations where you know, sometimes
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: I don't really want to be there at that time
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: doing that thing, but I know it's for a good,
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: good purpose. In the amber, the thing I didn't even like.
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: My old man was a real advice giver UM and
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: had like a lot of life philosophies and whatnot. The lesson,
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: the latest lesson that I've learned from him, I'm only
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: now being depreciate is having he had. You know, I
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: well he had multiple kids because he had been you know,
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: I had like half siblings, right, but I was raised
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: with two brothers um from day one. And now that
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: I have three kids, Uh, just how difficult it is
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: to take kids, like take kids in the outdoors. It's
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: a struggle, especially with that many of them. It's like hard,
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: and I see a lot of there's a lot of
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: people that I know that just kind of get, like
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: a man, this is too hard, and they kind of
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: ditch them. But the fact that he, I mean, since
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: we were little little with take us all out and
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: the pain in the ass that was. But also to
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: make it feel that you were very welcome and he'd
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: freak out like over anything, but um and wish I
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: get now, wish I get now? But like you bet
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: you like you live a bunch of life. You kind
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: of like free wheeling and do what you want and
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: you stay out and it gets cold and you still
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: stay out and then all of a sudden, have it
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: be that? Uh also have a bet you're at the
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: whim of all these little freaks, you know, and that
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: he did it for that long and it kind of
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: leaves you like, man, I'm gonna have to do it too.
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: But man, it's hard. Oh dude, running my five year
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: old al hard. It was the other day and it
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: hurt her feelings. This is hard. And let's how you
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: use something. Um Oh it's hard. It's hard even finding
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: all the mittens. There is no silence. There's no silence
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: like running out with you and the kids and like no,
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: even when things are going perfect, it's like, hey, well
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: what about this? Can't I do that? What about that? Well?
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: If I can't do that, can I have a snack? There?
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: Like it's they wanted their own little face masks, So
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: I gave I had to like net gators, the Marino netgators.
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: I give one to each of them. Then they got
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: to wear there. We're wearing them to school, and they
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: now take them school because you'll lose No, we won't
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: lose them. Next day we're going out side, okay, get
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: the things, neither of them. And one day they've both gone. Yeah,
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: like you can't find the mittens, you can't find the hats,
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: and you just got to like somehow just but you
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: can't ditch them. It's too wrong to ditch them. Ditch
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: your kids. Yeah, you know, it's fun, it's fun, but
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: hand it's hardened. And I think like in my dad,
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: I'm like way more tolerant than my dad was the
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: fact that he managed to hack it out is inspiring
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: to me. Well, you said that your your dad was
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: that he was never like into being friends, you know,
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: friends with No, he didn't even tell you though. He
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: wouldn't like secretly not want to be your friend, to
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: tell you he wasn't your friend. He was about it friend.
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: You know, in that moment when you're struggling with the
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: kid thing, that's when you're just telling yourself, man, these
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: are the days. This is like awesome, this is great. Yeah,
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: I do try to do that. And when they when
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: they say, what's that you're saying? You didn't talk to
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: yourself earlier? Try, I said, I do, try to remind myself.
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: It's all coming back. I tried to remind myself and listen.
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: My wife is very forceful about which side of your
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: brain is reminding which side of your brain. I'm trying
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: to do it. There's a difference. There's a big difference
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: because I do it, but it's not effective. But I tried,
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: Like I try to remind myself. My wife makes it,
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: makes a constant practice of verbally reminding me of how
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: good like right, and you'll cherish these days and they
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: grow up so fast and all that stuff you do
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: not try hard. I really do try hard. I'm committed
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: to trying to do I'm committed to like raising them up.
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: And when they complain, um, they're like, why don't we
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: have to do that? So cold or whatever? I tell him,
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: Because you'll be able to hang out with cooler people
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: if you learn how to hack away through this kind
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: of stuff, which doesn't really sell them on it, but
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: that's kind of what I'm pictured like, you like, you'll
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: you wind up, you wind up with cooler friends. I
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: found myself the other day trying to like define and
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: explain grit and how that was gonna help my girls
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: later in life. And yeah, they just is in one
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: year out, you're trying to tell me you need to
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: have grit. Yeah, ger Tony the Tiger, all right, seeing
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: through the bullshit. The game we're gonna play with Vortex Optics, Yes,
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: because they gave us we needed to have a prize.
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: So the guys of Vortex gave us the new Uh,
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: they got new three five thousand. I think one time
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: I said six three five thousand range finding binals. That's right,
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: you can ditch your range finder and just carry binals.
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: And we've been playing around with these, and yeah, they
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: will pick up reflective objects out to about five thousand
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: and deer type animals. Um Steve was paying Cou's deer,
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: which is a real small critter out at a thousand
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: or over a thousand yards. Yeah, so we had a
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: sweeten deal and get these. So you get this, and
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: we randomly selected a seat number which I think the
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: numbers are right here, right, and that person will come
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: up and play and we select did my son's nicknames
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: Jim Jams Jams and he's eight j J eight. So
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: if you're in J J eight, shall we say come
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: on down? Come on? Then how did they get up here?
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: I don't know how they get up There is is
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: somebody in that seat. Was it a full seat or empty?
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: I hear somebody coming, make some noise. Okay, So now
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: remember it's uh, what are you doing, Ben? I'm gonna
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: let him sit down here, come on up. I'm gonna
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: let him sit in my seat. That way he can
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: look at you guys in the eye while you oh yeah,
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: because he needs to look us in the eye. We're
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: gonna tell you what's your name, John, and it's up, man,
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: take a seat, John's hot seats. We're gonna tell pressure. No,
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: I know, it's a lot of pressure you're gonna get.
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: You have to pick out. You need to see through
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: the bullshit to see the true, the one of these
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: it's true. All right. We're each going to tell you
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: a thing. You'll mean to go first. We're each going
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: to tell you a fact. Remember to maintain eye contact,
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: especially with Yanni especially. I needed I need to check
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: my facts. And it is two lies and the truth.
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: You gotta find the thing that's fine, the truth, Alright, binoculars. Currently,
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: I do alright around. Let's make it sure. I worked
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: real hard on this story, so I want to make
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: sure I had nail it. Yeah, I'm selling it. I'm
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: selling it. Yeah. See he's seeing through it. Um. Recently,
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission finished a four year
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: study on white tail deer in South Florida, where the
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: largest deer research finds ever conducted in the state. Two
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: x three year were fitted with GPS collars eighty camera
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: traps fer set. The gold project was to gain a
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: better understanding of deer ecology in the unique South Florida
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: environment where there's pythons and panthers and all sorts of
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: stuff they can get deer ned next. Um. Okay, so
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: they studied all different kind of stuff. Um, the habitat, predation,
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: hunting impact. Um. What was interesting to me was the
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: mortality results. A hundred and fifty four deer died within
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: that four year time frame. A hundred and two were
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: ruled as possible or probable by a panther hif four Wait,
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: what did it start with panthers? Oh? Two sixty three
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: two Yeah, so it says here. Hundred two were ruled
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: as panther or probable panther. Bobcats killed three, bears killed two,
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: alligators killed one, disease got four poaching and probable poaching two.
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: And the lowly Florida hunter only killed one of those
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: deer California. He's been listening shit all right. This is
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: the unlikely heritage true story of Jan Smith. Right mountain
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: man Who Je Smith is? I know the name you
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: by Grizzly. Were you gonna clue that? No? He was
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: balled by Grizzly and his buddy sowed his head his
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: skelp back on, and you always wore his hair long. Yeah. Uh,
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: the stitching wasn't very tight, so he had to part
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: his hair just so. Uh so jets Man, famous mountain man,
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: had an incredible life, but he ran into a bunch
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: of trouble just about in this area. He actually ran
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: into the Spanish military. Um, got detained for amount of time,
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: ended up having a kind of a harrowing run through
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: a bunch of cactus, got all bloated up from his
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: body reacting to a ton of cactus needles. Um. During
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: that kind of healing process, he is tended to by
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: this very nice Spanish lady named rose Rita. Um they
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: have twelve kids. Uh yes, um, that's where all the
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: Smiths in the world come from. Now here's where things
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: get pretty deep. So stay with me here. Uh. As
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: this uh family grows, the Spanish heritage takes over and
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: they produce a line of high quality Mexican foods that
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: you can find at your grocery store today. If you've
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: ever eaten rosary to refried beans. That is the unlikely
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: true heritage of Jedediah Smith. Jedediah Smith, and I just
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: Jed Smith Jedediah Strong Smith. Okay, the Florida panther is
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: reduced down to maybe fifty animals, and there's talk about
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: supplementing the population with mountain lions from West Texas. The
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: debate centers around what is the Florida panther? If we
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: bring in a genetic line from another area, are we
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: destroying this isolated habitat. They do a collering study on
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: mountain lions to try to determine their range and distribution,
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: and they have a collar on a mountain lion in
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: the Everglades of Florida, And for some strange reason, one
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: of these lions, whose name is G four five migrate
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: south and swims and starts going out into the Florida
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: keys And there's that diminutive white tail sub species, the
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: keys deer, which is an imperiled species. And this lion
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: is praying very heavily on these very small populations of
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: keys deers, and a number of times the Florida Department
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: of Fishing Game thinks they're gonna need to remove one
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: of these lions. But eventually it is hit by a
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: tour bus in Key West. A little too detailed in
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: little too Yeah, it's a little you to figure this out.
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: You can't ask the audience if you'd like, I can
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: go and hold my hand over each person. They can
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: cheer for you can you can go to audio. You
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: can go to audience support if you really if you
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: if you think you need I think I have an idea,
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: but I'll go to the I mean, where where are
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: we going? Alright? Alright, alright, cheer when I hold my
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: hand and do this motion over the person. You're looking
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: for the truth. If you think this was the truth,
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: cheer for Yanni his story. Do you think cal was
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: telling the truth about asked me something? Now? If you
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: believe it's Steven Ronello is telling truth about that women
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: to pay, he suppose, and you're gonna go with that.
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: Mr Ronello over here, I think he's I think his story.
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: It's true. He gets your story, that's true. They just
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: they just put out the results. Man, Panthers killed over
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: a hundred of the tuner sixty three that were collared. Yeah,
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: and Florida Hunters only killed one. They were even told
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: don't let the GPS collars and the ear tax bother you.
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: Please kill those deer when you see them, right, believe
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: for playing you still anyway? Yeah, thank you for playing.
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: Oh yeah, good, thank you, thanks man. Oh excellent, that's great. Alright, guys,
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: don't go away because we're gonna Uh first off, thank
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: you very much for coming out, but don't go away. X.
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: We gotta do a we gotta do a birthday give away.
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: But first if you go out, we have our merge
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: table set up. We have signed books. We have new
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: are signed cookbooks out there. We have our meat Eater
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: mug mugs, uh squirrel meat hoodies. We have our ice
