- 0:23Hello and welcome back to Remember Why You Are Here,
- 0:27a podcast for seekers and sensitives where you can relax, receive,
- 0:31reconnect to yourself and remember the most important thing of all - why you're
- 0:36here. I'm Asia Suler, author, earth intuitive,
- 0:40teacher,
- 0:42and in this podcast episode today we're going to be talking about one of my
- 0:45all-time favorite things,
- 0:47which is dreams. So I've always been a very vivid dreamer,
- 0:52ever since I was very young.
- 0:54I can remember having repeated dreams, having precognitive dreams.
- 0:59Dreaming has always just been one of my pipelines into
- 1:04the beyond, into connecting with my own wider knowing and wider self,
- 1:08and dreams in a lot of ways, really led me into the work that I'm doing today.
- 1:13That throughline was something that kept me going even in hard times
- 1:18or kept providing clarity for me,
- 1:20giving me direction. And I have been so passionate about dreams for so long that
- 1:24I've now been teaching about dreams for 15 years.
- 1:27I love helping other people connect to their dreams,
- 1:31because even if you're someone who doesn't remember your dreams,
- 1:34you are still dreaming. Dreams are still important for you,
- 1:39and they are the message - the messages - that just never stop
- 1:44being sent. Your dreams are always coming with guidance, information.
- 1:49They are here to help you through your life, to navigate your life.
- 1:52And we're going to talk specifically about what dreams actually are in a few
- 1:56minutes. But just know that even if you don't remember your dreams,
- 1:59you are still having them. And so I'm hoping that this episode today is going to
- 2:04help you really get in touch with your dreams if you're maybe someone who
- 2:08doesn't remember them or it's hard to sort of get them before they fly in the
- 2:12morning, or if you're someone who does remember your dreams,
- 2:15this episode is here to help you go even deeper in understanding what your
- 2:18dreams are, what kind of dreams you might be having,
- 2:22and how they can be helpful to you in your life. So let's start with talking
- 2:26about what are dreams,
- 2:28because I think a lot of us were handed this framework for dreams that's
- 2:33inaccurate.
- 2:33So a lot of us were told from a young age that dreams are just the
- 2:38random firing of our mind.
- 2:40That dreams is just the way that our subconscious processes
- 2:45information from the day, that sometimes there's a rhythm to them,
- 2:48but it's really just all about our brain processing extra information,
- 2:53trying to problem solve, and that some dreams are just completely random,
- 2:57that they're just this random firing of our brain and they're to be ignored
- 3:02or to sort of be laughed at or looked at with curiosity,
- 3:06but that they're not this font of wisdom that they actually are. So let's talk
- 3:11about what dreams actually are. And there are different types of dreams,
- 3:15and we're going to go into that in a little bit.
- 3:17So I think the different types of dreams are coming from different places within
- 3:22our psyche and within our spirit. But in general,
- 3:26dreams are remembrances of our time
- 3:30outside of our body and outside of physical reality.
- 3:35So they have done studies with people where they were sleep
- 3:39deprived, but only to the point where they weren't dreaming.
- 3:43They were still able to get - in terms of the timeframe - enough sleep within a
- 3:48certain given period to function, all the things.
- 3:51But if they were prevented from going into REM sleep,
- 3:55they started to have mental breakdowns,
- 3:57started to have mental issues and problems. And why I think this is,
- 4:02is that we are all spirits inhabiting bodies.
- 4:07We come here to be in a physical form, to have this physical experience,
- 4:11but it's built into our system to need time away,
- 4:16to need time to escape,
- 4:19to have experiences in other realms of reality,
- 4:21to leave this reality behind for a little bit. And yes,
- 4:25to process what is happening in this reality,
- 4:27to receive guidance from this unseen world. So when we
- 4:31dream, we're traveling, we're adventuring,
- 4:34we're exploring.
- 4:37And dreams at their heart are remembrances,
- 4:40they're memories of our time in the
- 4:44non-physical world,
- 4:45our time stepping into the other world and stepping out of our day-to-day
- 4:49existence.
- 4:51And I believe that this is why it's so important that we have the time and the
- 4:56space to dream,
- 4:57why it's essential for our psyches and our functioning.
- 5:01And I also think that this is why it's so
- 5:05valuable to connect to our dreams,
- 5:07because our dreams are a direct pipeline into our wider self.
- 5:11And if you've been walking with me for a while,
- 5:13you know that I prefer the term "wider self" to "higher self" because from my
- 5:18perspective, my higher self is something I'm a part of.
- 5:22It's my wider self. I belong within it. I am a part of it.
- 5:26And remembering your dreams is a direct line to connect into your wider
- 5:31self. So if you are someone who is interested in talking to your higher self,
- 5:35your wider self, receiving guidance from the beyond,
- 5:38connecting with those on the other side of the veil,
- 5:40having this bigger picture of reality,
- 5:42you are getting dreams every night that are giving you that potential,
- 5:46that are opening that doorway for you.
- 5:49And there are techniques and methods for you to be able to really remember those
- 5:54dreams and to start to work with them. No matter what of dream you're having,
- 5:58when you interact with your dreams,
- 5:59you're interacting with your own consciousness. And that's powerful.
- 6:03We come here in part to have this experience in a physical body on this planet,
- 6:07but we also come here to know ourselves,
- 6:10to know the shape of our own consciousness and dreams are a direct
- 6:15pathway to doing that as well. Now,
- 6:18one of the central tenets of dreamwork as I see it,
- 6:22is this theory that dreams are these beautifully-packaged,
- 6:27storied metaphors of your time outside of this reality,
- 6:31outside of this time and space in this body.
- 6:34And those metaphors and those stories,
- 6:39they're perfectly packaged for you: not for anyone else, for you.
- 6:44And this is why dream dictionaries don't
- 6:48necessarily work. And I say this as someone who's dad,
- 6:52as a psychologist, literally edited a dream dictionary when I was growing up.
- 6:57There is validity in the dream dictionary in that there are certain archetypical
- 7:02things that, when we dream about them,
- 7:05we might be tapping into a collective consciousness piece.
- 7:09And yet we all have our own life experiences, our...
- 7:14the things that are utterly unique to us. So yes,
- 7:17while we might dream about the ocean,
- 7:19and there's certain archetypical understandings of the ocean depth,
- 7:23the unconscious, the vastness, the mystery,
- 7:27you might have a really particular association with the ocean that cannot be
- 7:31found in a dictionary. And that's really where the
- 7:35vitality comes in in our dreams,
- 7:37is you being willing to be your own interpreter
- 7:42of your dreams,
- 7:43to go through your own storied remembrance of your life and
- 7:48ask yourself, what does this mean to me? How does this feel in my body?
- 7:52How did I feel when I woke up from this dream?
- 7:55And all of that is going to give you so much more information than necessarily
- 7:59trying to look up what something means.
- 8:02And that can also be a way that our intuition's going to speak to us,
- 8:06like part of us will know: she's going to wake up and look up what this means,
- 8:10so let's throw her a wild card and see what comes up. But at the same time,
- 8:16what you don't want to do is give away your power because you are the
- 8:19interpreter of this dream.
- 8:21It's a perfectly storied metaphor made for you - by you,
- 8:25for you.
- 8:26And there's so much richness there if you can really see yourself as the
- 8:31interpreter of your dreams. One of my teachers, Robert Moss,
- 8:35a shamanic dream teacher, likes to say that dreaming is about waking up.
- 8:40And what this means is that when we work with our dreams,
- 8:44we wake up to the reality.
- 8:47We wake up to our own inner selves,
- 8:51we wake up to the greater potentials that exist in our life.
- 8:55And on a very literal level,
- 8:56if dreams are the remembrances that we have in non-physical reality,
- 9:03then just by remembering them, we're waking up to this knowledge,
- 9:07this awareness, that we are spiritual beings on a human journey.
- 9:13I've always loved in people's descriptions of their near-death experience when
- 9:19they talk about the experience of dying as one of waking up,
- 9:23of...
- 9:25as if their whole life had been a dream and then they woke up into a
- 9:29space that was more real than what they were experiencing here.
- 9:34And we all know what that feeling is, right?
- 9:36When you wake up from a dream and you're like, oh, thank God.
- 9:39Thank God this is my life. Maybe you were having a scary dream or whatever.
- 9:43But when people describe their near death experiences,
- 9:46they often describe it in this way:
- 9:47as if they woke up from a very long and yet brief
- 9:51dream. In the moment it seemed so long, when you're inside the dream,
- 9:55but then you wake up from it and you're like, oh, that was just a dream.
- 10:00Well, that's the way people describe dying,
- 10:03as waking up into another reality. And so if this is true,
- 10:07then dreaming is about waking up and that it helps us see that life
- 10:12is this dream, and we are its co-creators,
- 10:17we are constantly being sent messages and stories
- 10:21that are specifically for us to interpret and understand.
- 10:24And that's incredibly empowering.
- 10:26And this is the thing that I love about dreams as an access point,
- 10:31is that it's accessible to all of us, that all of us dream,
- 10:35that all of us have this ability. We do it every single night.
- 10:39And it's almost like this doorway that never closes,
- 10:42that's always open for us to actually remember who we are and be guided.
- 10:48So let's talk about kinds of dreams now,
- 10:51because there are a lot of different kinds of dreams.
- 10:54And the more you work with your dreams,
- 10:55the more you're going to be able to really feel out those textures.
- 11:00So there are dreams where you're just processing your day.
- 11:03And I say "just" as if that's not also miraculous and magnificent,
- 11:08but you'll kind of know them because they will contain elements from your day,
- 11:12you'll be able to actually look at it and see, ah,
- 11:15my brain was trying on different scenarios and different options with this.
- 11:20They don't normally have a feeling of big profundity or depth.
- 11:24If you wake up,
- 11:26it will almost feel like waking up after watching a sitcom or something.
- 11:30You're like, okay,
- 11:31so I was processing these pieces from my day and that's valuable,
- 11:36that's helpful.
- 11:37We know for a fact that our brains need that time and
- 11:41that this is how we learn, this is how we integrate memories,
- 11:47and process experiences.
- 11:49If we don't have enough time to sleep and specifically go into that REM cycle,
- 11:53then we don't get the time to complete a lot of memory-making,
- 11:58story-making,
- 11:59sense-making processes in our brain. So you'll often know
- 12:04it's a processing dream about your day because you will recognize elements from
- 12:09it, you will sort of wake up with this more
- 12:13mundane perhaps feeling about the dream.
- 12:15And that doesn't mean that these are to be ignored.
- 12:19These small dreams are still important. And in fact,
- 12:23I think writing dreams down is the absolute best thing you
- 12:28can do for holding onto and understanding the content of a dream.
- 12:33And I say this as a mother to a 3-year-old currently,
- 12:37and I used to write down my dreams every single morning,
- 12:41several dreams, every single morning.
- 12:43And now I'm really lucky if I write down one a week,
- 12:47if I remember one a week because I used to have time and space to really
- 12:52remember them. And now my day starts out like a hundred miles per hour.
- 12:56And yet I know this is a phase, that it's not going to last forever.
- 12:58And I try to do what I can still to capture them.
- 13:01So if that means really repeating the details again and again to myself until I
- 13:06have the time to write it down,
- 13:07or the next best option is to literally
- 13:12verbally say the dream out loud. So if I have to hop in the car in the morning
- 13:17and I don't have time to write them down,
- 13:19I will literally speak the dream out loud,
- 13:22record myself speaking the dream out loud.
- 13:24And I often find that then it's stored in my brain in a similar way as if I had
- 13:28written it down.
- 13:29But what I find time and time again is that even with these smaller,
- 13:32more mundane dreams, when you write them down,
- 13:36you can start to actually slow down enough to receive the message.
- 13:39And it's so... I have been writing my dreams down now for 20 years,
- 13:42and it's so amazing to me how I will think I've
- 13:46understood the message and then I'll write it down
- 13:51and so much more will come through.
- 13:54And so I really encourage you to write down your dreams if possible,
- 13:58in writing them down. After you write them down,
- 14:01give it a title so you can find it again.
- 14:04It also sort of helps create more of a storied framework of what actually
- 14:09stands out to you from the dream. And then free associate themes at the bottom,
- 14:14write down themes that are coming up for you.
- 14:15And what I will find is that I will often have different but similar
- 14:20themes come up within periods of time in my life.
- 14:23And I might not even realize until I go back and look at it that, oh,
- 14:27those dreams all were of a similar theme.
- 14:29I was working with a similar type thing. So these are processing dreams.
- 14:33We all have them, they're so helpful,
- 14:36they're part of how we function as human beings.
- 14:39Then there's also dreams that I consider remembrances outside of your
- 14:44physical body. So I think all dreams are remembrances of work that you're doing,
- 14:48stuff that you're engaging in outside of obviously being awake,
- 14:51and being in a body. But I think that there are some dreams that are very
- 14:56specifically remembrances of experiences that you are having in
- 15:01nonphysical reality. And it's a gift when we get these kinds of dreams.
- 15:05And I think they can come in a lot of different forms.
- 15:07But I have had dreams where I am with a teacher
- 15:12who's teaching me specific things,
- 15:15including spiritual teachers teaching me different spiritual tools, techniques.
- 15:20You might've had a dream where maybe you were in school and yet it wasn't
- 15:25like a school that you recognize here, it was a night school.
- 15:28Maybe you were with other souls learning something in particular. I have
- 15:33also had kind of wild dreams where it really feels as if
- 15:38I have stepped into almost another planet or another
- 15:43stream of consciousness,
- 15:44like a whole other set of rules to that reality on
- 15:49another planet or in a storyline that's completely different from my life.
- 15:54And those are kind of fun because I feel like I can recognize them,
- 15:58because there's not an element of charge around whatever the storyline is.
- 16:01And I come back, and I'm like, how interesting.
- 16:04I literally feel like I just experienced this sci-fi experience. And your
- 16:08feelings when you wake up,
- 16:10they are going to direct you towards what kind of dream you've had and what the
- 16:15content is for you to explore.
- 16:17And if you wake up from a dream that's even pretty wild,
- 16:20but you feel pretty neutral,
- 16:22you can probably guess that that's actually a remembrance of you having an
- 16:26adventure outside of your body.
- 16:28And it's not even necessarily like that's information you technically need right
- 16:33now in your life, although you can still gather gems from it,
- 16:37but they're almost like you are remembering the entertainment that you undertook
- 16:42when you lift your body for a little bit that night.
- 16:44And so those can be really fun. Now, I also think there's a class of dreams,
- 16:49and I would call them Big Dreams,
- 16:52and these are more like soul level communications.
- 16:55So I know I mentioned this idea of night school in this other category of
- 17:00just these remembrances of entertainment that you've had outside of your body.
- 17:04But really anytime you have a dream where you wake up from it
- 17:10and you think, wow, something about that felt big,
- 17:13I feel a lot of movement inside of me, I feel a lot of charge,
- 17:18pay attention.
- 17:19And it's these soul-level dreams that are always the dreams that we're all
- 17:23wanting and waiting for, right? And they don't happen every night,
- 17:26and that's okay. But when these big dreams do happen,
- 17:29they can literally change the course of our life if only we slow down enough to
- 17:34listen to them. So this could be a dream where you're communicating with a
- 17:38teacher, where you're met by a loved one.
- 17:42I actually have had a lot of dreams with people who have
- 17:46passed,
- 17:47specifically people - who are connected to people I love - who've passed.
- 17:51And this is one thing I do want to mention because especially if you've lost
- 17:55someone really close to you, it can start to feel...
- 17:58it can feel really upsetting if they're not visiting you in your dreams or you
- 18:02haven't seen them and it can feel like, well, are they still there?
- 18:06Is there something wrong with me?
- 18:07And what I have found as someone who does experience these type of visitations
- 18:12from the other side is that most often the people who are coming to visit me
- 18:16from the other side are not directly connected to me,
- 18:20or if they are directly connected to me, it normally...
- 18:24the communication normally only happens after they've had a period of time of
- 18:27integration on the other side. And that's the only way I could describe it,
- 18:30is that they've gone through a period of integration enough that they can then
- 18:34expend the energy to come communicate with me. So be open to that,
- 18:38be open to that... that you might have your loved one come in a dream,
- 18:43but you might have someone else's loved one come to your dreams.
- 18:45And that I have even found over time that over, for example,
- 18:50the 20 years that my grandfather has been passed,
- 18:53that I will get periodic updates on how he's doing on the other side.
- 18:57And it always comes in at a time too where it's helpful for me or helpful
- 19:01for my dad and helpful in our growth too.
- 19:04So these dreams are possible.
- 19:07These dreams happen a lot. Other big dreams are big creative dreams.
- 19:11So a lot of people have talked about the idea that whatever their incredible
- 19:16groundbreaking invention is or creation, that it first came through in a dream.
- 19:21For example,
- 19:22I remember reading that Paul McCartney said that the song Yesterday,
- 19:27an iconic song, came to him in a dream.
- 19:31What I find really funny about this story though is that it came to him in the
- 19:34dream as a melody and he didn't quite catch the words.
- 19:37And so he wrote down the title at first as scrambled eggs instead of yesterday.
- 19:41And I think that this is just such a funny story and example too of how
- 19:45sometimes these creation dreams will come in,
- 19:47that we have this big idea - of an invention, a creation, a life path,
- 19:52whatever it is - and it will take some interpreting. That it'll come in,
- 19:56it'll be there, it'll be this package,
- 19:58and yet we do also need to add that layer of filtering
- 20:03it through our day-to-day mind to really understand what is actually coming
- 20:07through. Like I think Paul McCartney knew that the song wasn't going to be about
- 20:11scrambled eggs,
- 20:13but that was the stand-in until he had that time to really piece through
- 20:18that, that these big inspirations are coming in,
- 20:21they're being downloaded by our wider self, our soul, our guides.
- 20:25And if you pay attention to your dreams,
- 20:27this might be a kind of dream that you have. There are also
- 20:32pre-cognitive dreams. So I have dreamt about people before I've met them,
- 20:36dreamt about things that have happened before they've come to pass.
- 20:40I've been teaching about dreams for so many years now too that I've heard so
- 20:44many stories of people also having pre-cognitive,
- 20:47including precognitive dreams of loved ones passing, of accidents happening.
- 20:52Sometimes if you were a kid who had precognitive dreams,
- 20:59it could have been something that scared you. And because of that,
- 21:03sometimes we shut down when we have precognitive dreams,
- 21:05especially when we're younger,
- 21:07when we don't understand that we're actually just sort of peering
- 21:11past linear time, and that we didn't cause that to happen,
- 21:16that it's not our fault.
- 21:17And that in fact my understanding of precognitive dreams is that we're
- 21:22often shown those dreams not to change the future,
- 21:25but just to give us a heads up so that we have the ability to meet it with more
- 21:29grace. So if you've ever had a precognitive dream and afterwards maybe had a
- 21:34hard time with, why didn't I do something? Why didn't I change something?
- 21:37I just really want you to know that this is my understanding of precognitive
- 21:42dreams: that there are certain things that we cannot change,
- 21:44but given time to prepare for,
- 21:47we can just meet with more flexibility and understanding and grace.
- 21:53Now, I talked a lot just now about big precognitive dreams,
- 21:57but you can also have small precognitive dreams,
- 21:59like just little dreams about what might happen that day.
- 22:03And those can be cool too because often those dreams,
- 22:07which almost function as a little bit of deja vu,
- 22:10are often confirmation that you're on the right path,
- 22:12you're doing the right thing,
- 22:13this is where you're supposed to be. And then there are healing dreams.
- 22:17So you can receive healing in your dreams and your dreams
- 22:22will also often be guides helping you figure out what you
- 22:26need in order to heal. So when I first started studying plants,
- 22:31I would often dream about the Latin name of a plant.
- 22:35It would come to me in a dream,
- 22:36and I'd have to look it up because I didn't know them all at that point.
- 22:40I was really learning them. And I'd often be surprised. I'd be like, oh,
- 22:43it's this plant, and whoa,
- 22:45that plant makes so much sense for what I'm physically dealing with right now or
- 22:49what I'm emotionally dealing with right now. I've also had experiences of direct
- 22:53healing through dreams.
- 22:54Like I had an experience when I contracted Lyme disease of a direct healing that
- 22:59happened inside of a dream.
- 23:01These dreams are profound gifts when they come,
- 23:04and it's not going to be every day,
- 23:06but I am bringing it up because I want you to be open to the possibility that
- 23:09what you're experiencing in a dream might actually be a healing or might
- 23:14actually be an avenue of healing for you. And to pay attention.
- 23:17Pay attention to how you feel when you wake up, what's inside your body,
- 23:21your psyche, your mind when you wake up from those dreams,
- 23:23because it's here to guide you. I think all dreams are healing in this
- 23:28capacity, and when we work with them,
- 23:30it's like we give them permission to actually root in.
- 23:34And this healing can come in a lot of different ways. You know,
- 23:37talking about the remembrances or dreams as remembrances.
- 23:40I've also had dreams that I am pretty convinced are past life experiences,
- 23:44where I am someone else entirely,
- 23:49but that person is very, very, very familiar to me.
- 23:51And my entire life story is different.
- 23:53I've had very vivid dreams from certain time periods with certain historical
- 23:57detail that I've been able to look up afterwards and confirm detail that I just
- 24:02would not have known in my day-to-day life for any reason. And so be open to
- 24:06that possibility too,
- 24:07that if you have dreams that are taking place in other time periods or you seem
- 24:11to be an entirely different person,
- 24:14that this could also be a past life remembrance.
- 24:16And those are often coming up to help us with whatever we're dealing with now,
- 24:19to understand maybe some of the patterns that we're holding,
- 24:22some of the tricky stuff that seems to not shift no matter how much
- 24:27we try to address it.
- 24:28Sometimes these are rooted in other lifetimes and these dreams can really help
- 24:32us work with that. And the final type of dream I want to talk about is my
- 24:35favorite type of dream - favorite,
- 24:38because it's so straightforward - and I call them text message dreams.
- 24:41And these are dreams where you get very specific downloads about what to do.
- 24:45Go here, do this, don't do that. Break up with him,
- 24:49whatever it is. And these dreams also don't happen all the time,
- 24:54but when they do happen - and if they happen for you,
- 24:57you know - when they do happen, it's like this clarity piece of like, okay,
- 25:01here we go. That's what I'm supposed to do.
- 25:03And if you could take anything away from this episode, it's this:
- 25:07heed the text message dreams.
- 25:09Listen to what the text message is saying because when it comes in with that
- 25:14kind of clarity, you know that that's important.
- 25:18It was important enough that it was formed into a very direct message for
- 25:23your unconscious to deliver to you. Now,
- 25:27most dreams won't be text message dreams like that,
- 25:29but if you do get a text message dream and you heed it,
- 25:33what I often find is that you will then have more dreams.
- 25:36And this is the thing about dreams. If you want to remember more dreams,
- 25:40if you want to work more with dreams, if you want more guidance dreams,
- 25:45more dreams - big dreams,
- 25:47like I was just talking about - these soul level experience in your
- 25:51dreams,
- 25:52then you need to court them. And in
- 25:57courtship,
- 25:58we receive what is being given.
- 26:02We relish even the smallest little things. We treasure them.
- 26:07It's like if your beloved gave you a rose petal,
- 26:10you would treasure that because you're in this courtship.
- 26:13You want to get to know them more. Well, the same is true for dreams.
- 26:16And so if you want to remember more of your dreams,
- 26:19here are some tips to do that: The first thing is going to be
- 26:24to write down whatever you remember first thing in the morning.
- 26:28Even if you can't remember a whole dream, write down whatever is there.
- 26:33Is it a feeling? Is it a song? Is it a song lyric?
- 26:36Is it a word? Is it a color? Even if it's super subtle,
- 26:41writing that down is signaling to your brain that you want to
- 26:46remember more of these dreams because this is what we're talking about.
- 26:50We know actually through research that everybody dreams.
- 26:53You dream every single night, multiple times a night.
- 26:56It's just about communicating to your brain and to your waking mind that these
- 27:00are important, that this is information you want to hold onto and remember.
- 27:04And how do we do that? How do we signal our brain to do that? Well,
- 27:07we start by asking your brain to attune to the details.
- 27:11So writing down whatever is there,
- 27:13taking that time first thing in the morning to do that. Another thing that is
- 27:16really,
- 27:17really helpful is giving yourself time when you
- 27:22wake up, if at all possible. If you are a parent of a little one,
- 27:26this just might not be in the cards for you right now, but, maybe!
- 27:29Maybe you're someone who feels like you have the capacity to set an alarm for a
- 27:34little bit earlier than your little one wakes up and have that
- 27:38time. I often find that I remember my dreams a lot more when I have a series of
- 27:42alarms. So if you know have to be up at a certain time,
- 27:45set a series of alarms 15 minutes apart for the 45 minutes before
- 27:50that,
- 27:51and you will have a much greater likelihood of remembering your dreams if you
- 27:55have those periods of waking up and then going back to sleep. And to add
- 28:00on to that,
- 28:00to even create more potential surface area for you to remember your dreams,
- 28:05when you wake up, linger in that state for as long as possible.
- 28:09This is called a hypnopompic state.
- 28:12It's the state where we're waking up or we're rising into consciousness.
- 28:15And this is really that turning point time when you can either remember your
- 28:19dreams or just let it float out of your brain.
- 28:22And so the more you let yourself rest in a hypnopompic state as you're waking
- 28:27up - just let yourself rest there, try not to think about your day. If possible,
- 28:31try not to launch into your day,
- 28:34unless ou have a toddler pulling your hair - but you rest there if you
- 28:37can,
- 28:38and a lot more will have the ability to come back if you rest there.
- 28:42And if nothing comes back, that's fine.
- 28:45Don't go down a stressful rabbit hole with this.
- 28:47Just think of it as quiet time in which you're actually meditating before you
- 28:52start your day and you're meditating in this open state to see what might come.
- 28:57And you can also really let your dreams know that you're courting them,
- 29:00that you want to be in greater conversation, if you practice dream invocation.
- 29:05So dream invocation is where you have an intention for your
- 29:09dreams, where you're asking to get a certain kind of guidance, clarity,
- 29:13perspective.
- 29:15My favorite way to do dream invocation is to write it down on a piece of paper
- 29:18or in my journal right before I go to bed.
- 29:21So to write that down right before I go to bed and put it on my bedside table.
- 29:26And really, as I am falling asleep,
- 29:29really focus on that invocation,
- 29:31really focus on what I want to receive,
- 29:35ask for it again and again, keep it in my mind. Just hold it there if I can.
- 29:39And then have that right on my bedside table.
- 29:41And when I first wake up in the morning,
- 29:42write down whatever is there. And what I have often found is that even if I wake
- 29:47up and think, okay, my question was not answered. I don't know what that was.
- 29:52If I write it down, I'll start to see that there is actually an answer in there,
- 29:56that there is a thread. And if you have a really big question in your life,
- 30:01ask it more than once. Set the intention several days in a row,
- 30:06because what you're doing is you're signaling to your consciousness that this is
- 30:09important,
- 30:09that you're willing to take the time and the energy you need to focus on this.
- 30:14And if you keep asking, you will receive an answer.
- 30:18And if you practice the things that I talked about, setting those extra alarms,
- 30:23giving yourself time to rest as you are in this hypnopompic state,
- 30:27as you come up into wakefulness,
- 30:28writing down whatever's there as fast and as quickly as you can - maybe not
- 30:33fast, but catching it while it's fresh, catching it in the morning,
- 30:38if at all possible. I definitely have written down dreams later in the day,
- 30:42at night, but it's a different quality than writing them down first thing.
- 30:46You're going to be able to catch a lot more. If you can't write them down,
- 30:49try voice notes.
- 30:50And this works particularly well if you are someone who wakes up in the middle
- 30:54of the night and you remember a dream, get your phone,
- 30:58leave yourself a little voice note about what you just experienced.
- 31:02And when I do this and I listen to them again,
- 31:05I'm often blown away by what I was dreaming about because I will have completely
- 31:09forgotten about it or I'll have forgotten 90% of the detail. And so if
- 31:14you practice these pieces,
- 31:17your dream invocation will just get stronger and stronger and stronger,
- 31:20and you can start to use your dreams as a kind of oracle.
- 31:23You can use your dreams as a source of guidance to really direct you in your
- 31:27life-and not only direct you in the decisions that you're here to make or the
- 31:32big steps that you're contemplating,
- 31:34but dreams will also download into your body,
- 31:38into your energy system,
- 31:40a greater sense of your own soul and your own capacity.
- 31:45You'll start to feel more and more and more like you are awake inside
- 31:50the dream of your day-to-day life.
- 31:52You're able to see yourself more as the creator of your existence and
- 31:57really step into that empowering piece of I am here to
- 32:02co-create my life, that none of this is happening to me,
- 32:05it's all happening for me,
- 32:07and that I am invited into this as a co-creator and
- 32:12I'm excited to be a part of this dream. So if you are getting excited about
- 32:17dreams and dream work and the idea of working more deeply with your dreams -
- 32:22especially in connection with the living world, with plants,
- 32:25with the earth - is something that's calling to you,
- 32:28then definitely stay tuned for the Intuitive Plant Medicine sale that I'm
- 32:32running next week.
- 32:34Intuitive Plant Medicine is my longest running course - I think this will be the
- 32:37ninth year that I'm running it - and it is the place where I've taught most in
- 32:41depth about dreams along with many other things,
- 32:45including working with plant allies, on the body treatments,
- 32:49land healing, flower essences, channeling,
- 32:53ancestral plant work. And in Intuitive Plant Medicine,
- 32:57we go even deeper into how to dream with plants,
- 32:59how to work with your dreams in conjunction with communicating with the living
- 33:04world of receiving guidance from the living world.
- 33:06We talk more about plants for dreaming, which is a whole nother topic.
- 33:10And one I'd be super excited to get into another time.
- 33:13But if any of this is interesting to you,
- 33:15then definitely stay tuned for that because that sale is going to be the biggest
- 33:18sale I've ever run on Intuitive Plant Medicine.
- 33:20And that's happening next week. And if you are someone who
- 33:25has had big dreams or if you're listening to this and you're like,
- 33:29I have questions about dreams, I would love to hear them.
- 33:32Leave me a voice message.
- 33:33I have an answering machine over on my website at AsiaSuler.com/remember.
- 33:38And I just think talking about dreams is one of the most delightful things ever.
- 33:43And if there's enough interest,
- 33:44then we'll definitely do another episode about dreams,
- 33:47because there's just so much richness here.
- 33:49There's so much to talk about. And speaking of dreams or things that are dreamy,
- 33:54or things that are dreamlike,
- 33:56it has been so dreamy for me to receive your feedback,
- 34:01to see your reviews, to read them,
- 34:03to hold them close to my heart.
- 34:06They're like a little light on dark nights. And I just,
- 34:10I've been so honored by all of your ratings, all your reviews,
- 34:13all your feedback.
- 34:14And if you are loving this podcast and you want to make a little dream for me
- 34:19a reality, I would love it if you left me a review or if you rated this podcast.
- 34:24It really helps this podcast reach more people.
- 34:26I've already seen this literally in action, reaching the right people,
- 34:30reaching the people that I dearly want to be in contact with,
- 34:33that I want to be in connection with, and that are part of this community.
- 34:37And so if you have the time and the space to do that, it would be dreamy for me,
- 34:41and I would thank you so much. So I often find that just by talking about
- 34:45dreams, we signal to our consciousness that we're ready to remember them,
- 34:49that we're ready to work with them more, that we want bigger dreams.
- 34:52So I want you to know that just by listening to this podcast today,
- 34:56you have set that in motion,
- 34:57that you are reconnecting to your dreams. And to say that piece too,
- 35:01that we go through seasons in life, seasons when we are really connected,
- 35:05and seasons when things are just busier.
- 35:08But I want you to know that this is the doorway that never closes.
- 35:11It's always open. It's always there for you.
- 35:13It will be there for you when you have the time and the space again.
- 35:16And if you're listening to this podcast,
- 35:18then it's probably because that doorway is beckoning to you now,
- 35:22and you have the tools that you need to begin connecting and to begin dreaming
- 35:27big. So until next time, may your dreams be deep,
- 35:31may they be wild,
- 35:33may they guide you,
- 35:35and may they bring you into connection with the most important thing of all:
- 35:40remembering why you're here.
