- 0:04Speaker 1: There we go Tuesday on the radio program affectionately known
- 0:08Speaker 1: as Common Sense Amplified. How are you, ruminators? Appreciate you
- 0:13Speaker 1: joining us wherever? And however, it's the Morning Show with
- 0:15Speaker 1: Preston Scott Show fifty five fifty four. We're still counting them.
- 0:20Speaker 1: That's Jose. I'm Preston and this is us Congressman Kat
- 0:23Speaker 1: came at Kat, how are you?
- 0:25Speaker 2: Good morning? We're doing all right? Getting ready to head
- 0:29Speaker 2: back to crazy Washington, DC.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Yeah, let's talk about that first, your reaction to the
- 0:37Speaker 1: events of the weekend.
- 0:42Speaker 2: This is not a black and white situation. I think
- 0:45Speaker 2: that that's the first thing that needs to be established that.
- 0:48Speaker 2: I know that there's people who have a lot of
- 0:52Speaker 2: very strong opinions, but the reality is is that we're
- 0:57Speaker 2: living in a very complex world. I do have extreme
- 1:01Speaker 2: reservations about the lack of consultation with Congress. I understand
- 1:07Speaker 2: the administration's position that Congress leaks, and that is one
- 1:11Speaker 2: hundred percent true. There are people who are more interested
- 1:14Speaker 2: in furthering their profile than maintaining national security, and that
- 1:18Speaker 2: is unfortunately the reality of what Congress.
- 1:21Speaker 3: Is like today.
- 1:23Speaker 2: That said, that doesn't give a green light to abdicate
- 1:26Speaker 2: our role in our authority to declare war. And so
- 1:32Speaker 2: while the President has authority for the next sixty days
- 1:35Speaker 2: to take military action to defend against direct and immediate
- 1:38Speaker 2: and eminent threats to the United States, I do worry
- 1:42Speaker 2: significantly about the potential for long a long term conflict
- 1:49Speaker 2: in the region. So something that actually today we will
- 1:53Speaker 2: be in a skiff chatting with Secretary of Rubio and
- 1:59Speaker 2: the CIA and other parts of our government to really
- 2:04Speaker 2: get to the bottom of what the what next steps are.
- 2:09Speaker 1: We'll say, yeah, we've been talking about that. It is
- 2:12Speaker 1: clear that for right this moment, Iran has chosen to
- 2:17Speaker 1: continue the path the leadership of Iran of radical clerics
- 2:22Speaker 1: running the country. We know about Islamic extremism. We'll get
- 2:26Speaker 1: to unpacking that in future months. I think it's impacting
- 2:29Speaker 1: our country and I think it's a great danger to
- 2:32Speaker 1: our country. But having said that, Kat, what do you
- 2:35Speaker 1: anticipate the America the United States can do to assist
- 2:40Speaker 1: the Iranian people in giving them their best chance at
- 2:44Speaker 1: establishing a legitimate, duly elected government.
- 2:49Speaker 2: You know, I actually think that the President said it best.
- 2:52Speaker 2: You know, he said, this is this is your once
- 2:54Speaker 2: in a generation, maybe once in a multi generation opportunity
- 2:59Speaker 2: to take their country back. Right. He's saying this to
- 3:01Speaker 2: the Iranian people. I personally and the folks that I represent,
- 3:08Speaker 2: have no interest in nation building. We are not going
- 3:11Speaker 2: to be engaged in that type of activity in Iran.
- 3:16Speaker 2: But I do think that the elements within Iran exist
- 3:20Speaker 2: to re establish a nation that works for them, and
- 3:27Speaker 2: they have seen brutality on a scale that most people
- 3:30Speaker 2: cannot imagine. We all know that the Ayatola crushed just
- 3:35Speaker 2: here recently over thirty thousand, killed thirty thousand of their
- 3:39Speaker 2: own people who were protesting, and so we know that
- 3:42Speaker 2: they've seen and really understand the brutality of that type
- 3:46Speaker 2: of regime and religious extremism. And I think the Iranian
- 3:51Speaker 2: people will reject that. But that comes with the caveat
- 3:55Speaker 2: that we, the United States and the American taxpayers should
- 3:59Speaker 2: not and not be engaged in nation building around the globe.
- 4:04Speaker 2: That is something that I believe many people, Republican and Democrat,
- 4:08Speaker 2: we all kind of share this, these very hard lessons learned,
- 4:12Speaker 2: and you know, that's something that I want to be
- 4:15Speaker 2: super cognizant of. That said, when you look at the
- 4:20Speaker 2: larger geopolitical map. We are seeing how China is going
- 4:26Speaker 2: to be directly impacted by this, which I think is
- 4:30Speaker 2: hugely important to include in this discussion. This isn't just
- 4:33Speaker 2: a singular you know, I ran as the only one
- 4:37Speaker 2: who is taking a hit here. Now China is too,
- 4:39Speaker 2: because China has been getting immense amounts of oil at
- 4:44Speaker 2: a very steep discount of sanctioned oil. And I think
- 4:48Speaker 2: that this is a longer play in curbing China's threat
- 4:53Speaker 2: to not just the United States, but also to the
- 4:56Speaker 2: to the world. So lots of elements here. Like I said,
- 4:59Speaker 2: there's there is no black and white in a situation.
- 5:02Speaker 2: There are varying shades of gray. Dare I say fifty
- 5:05Speaker 2: shades of gray?
- 5:07Speaker 1: US Congress went cat camick with us this morning for
- 5:10Speaker 1: a few more minutes. What's going on with the Save
- 5:13Speaker 1: Act in the Senate? What are you hearing from your
- 5:15Speaker 1: colleagues over there?
- 5:17Speaker 2: Oh? God, bless America. Oh you know, there's a saying
- 5:22Speaker 2: that we have in Washington. The Democrats may be the opposition,
- 5:25Speaker 2: but the Senate is the enemy. And that is so
- 5:28Speaker 2: true at surface value. I would say people feel that
- 5:35Speaker 2: the Senate leadership will do anything they can to avoid
- 5:38Speaker 2: bringing this bill to the floor. And I would have
- 5:43Speaker 2: to say that that surface value take is pretty much
- 5:46Speaker 2: what is the truth. I myself have spoken to Leader
- 5:50Speaker 2: Soon and encouraged him to bring this to the floor,
- 5:55Speaker 2: to do the talking filibusters. Yes, it is absolutely ridiculous
- 6:00Speaker 2: that we are even talking about the fact that you
- 6:04Speaker 2: should have to be in the chamber. If you are
- 6:07Speaker 2: objecting to a bill, you should at least have to
- 6:09Speaker 2: show up. And that's really what the zombie filibuster is.
- 6:12Speaker 2: It's that sixty vote threshold that you have to break
- 6:15Speaker 2: in order to advance the bill to a final vote.
- 6:18Speaker 2: And in the zombie filibuster, you don't even have to
- 6:21Speaker 2: be present in the chamber to object. You just have
- 6:23Speaker 2: to make it known that you're not going to vote,
- 6:26Speaker 2: and that's it. At least with the talking filibuster, you
- 6:29Speaker 2: got to show up and you've got to stand your ground.
- 6:31Speaker 2: You got to make your case, and guess what if
- 6:34Speaker 2: you do, great if you don't, then let the bill
- 6:36Speaker 2: move forward, because all they're doing is holding up the
- 6:38Speaker 2: American people's wishes. And it is bizarre to me, absolutely
- 6:44Speaker 2: bizarro Land that the case that the left has staked
- 6:47Speaker 2: on is that this bill is going to disenfranchise women
- 6:53Speaker 2: because in their words, and these are not katcam x words,
- 6:57Speaker 2: these are the left's words, right, this is the Democrats.
- 7:00Speaker 2: They say women are too stupid to figure out if
- 7:04Speaker 2: they get married how to change their name and register
- 7:09Speaker 2: to vote. That is their words. I have never seen
- 7:13Speaker 2: a winning strategy in which you call someone stupid and
- 7:18Speaker 2: expect them to support you. And I, as a woman,
- 7:21Speaker 2: I can say that I am sick and tired of
- 7:23Speaker 2: them treating us like idiots every single time we turn around.
- 7:27Speaker 2: They want to make every issue about one thing, abortion
- 7:31Speaker 2: and then they want to insult us on every other issue.
- 7:34Speaker 2: And I just cannot wrap my head around how they
- 7:37Speaker 2: think that is okay for you to show id to
- 7:43Speaker 2: buy alcohol, cigarettes, to rent a car, to fly on
- 7:48Speaker 2: a plane, to rent an apartment, to buy a house.
- 7:51Speaker 1: To tickets will call in your.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Life, Yeah, exactly, picking up tickets that a will call.
- 7:57Speaker 2: But when it comes to voting, that's just a bridge
- 7:59Speaker 2: too far. My goodness, kat I'm.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Gonna get to the obvious to me, and because I
- 8:06Speaker 1: have been saying from the get go just what you said.
- 8:10Speaker 1: But also, the American public is one hundred percent okay,
- 8:14Speaker 1: eighty three percent on board with voter ID eighty three percent.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Just make the Democrats talk, do the talking filibuster, because
- 8:23Speaker 1: the ones running for reelection are then going to have
- 8:26Speaker 1: to own it on the campaign trail and then just
- 8:29Speaker 1: pass the thing because Federman changes the math. So in
- 8:33Speaker 1: my mind, there's a reason why Thune won't do this,
- 8:36Speaker 1: and there's something going on that that Republicans need to
- 8:39Speaker 1: press and make him uncomfortable.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I really do think, and soon himself. He is
- 8:47Speaker 2: a co sponsor of the Save America Act. That's a
- 8:51Speaker 2: front and he and he I honestly, I do think
- 8:54Speaker 2: he believes that. I think he is trying to keep
- 8:58Speaker 2: his coalition together. And that's where you know Senator McConnell,
- 9:03Speaker 2: who is the chair of the Rules Committee, is being
- 9:06Speaker 2: an obstructionist in this space. That's something that needs to
- 9:10Speaker 2: be called out. And again, I think if you were
- 9:14Speaker 2: to institute the talking philibuster, which doesn't require anything other
- 9:18Speaker 2: than to say we're not going to use a zombie filibuster,
- 9:20Speaker 2: We're just doing the talking philibuster, they have the rules
- 9:22Speaker 2: on the books that right there would be a game changer,
- 9:26Speaker 2: not just on the same of America Act, on so
- 9:28Speaker 2: many other bills because we in the House, we pass
- 9:31Speaker 2: bills all day long, and they just sit on the
- 9:34Speaker 2: doorstep of the Senate collecting dust.
- 9:36Speaker 1: YEP, the US Senate is very much like the Florida Senate.
- 9:39Speaker 1: That's where good bills go to die. All Right, We've
- 9:46Speaker 1: talked about our utter contempt for what's going on in
- 9:48Speaker 1: the Senate and the unwillingness to bring the Save Act.
- 9:52Speaker 1: But I just kat, I have to ask you about
- 9:56Speaker 1: the selfie that went viral.
- 10:01Speaker 3: Oh yes, I mean, first of all, before we talk
- 10:09Speaker 3: about the selfie, I have to applaud I had so
- 10:13Speaker 3: many people that were and you got to understand, Okay,
- 10:18Speaker 3: you're not necessarily our congressional representative, but you're ours.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Okay, you're a friend of everybody on this program. The
- 10:26Speaker 1: number of people that were glowing at your decision to
- 10:31Speaker 1: sit on the Democrat side and to stand and clap,
- 10:37Speaker 1: let's just say it was brilliant and people in this
- 10:41Speaker 1: audience loved it. Tell us what went into that choice.
- 10:47Speaker 2: I would say it was not super premeditated in the
- 10:51Speaker 2: sense that we had like a day's long strategy going
- 10:54Speaker 2: into this. No, we actually I got to DC, I
- 11:00Speaker 2: ran and changed and started my day and about an
- 11:04Speaker 2: hour before the State of the Union, I looked at
- 11:08Speaker 2: my team and I just had this gut feeling. I said, guys,
- 11:11Speaker 2: I think I want to sit on the Democrat side.
- 11:13Speaker 2: And they hated the idea, absolutely hated it. They were like,
- 11:17Speaker 2: do not do that, ma'am, Please do not sit on
- 11:20Speaker 2: that side.
- 11:21Speaker 1: But what was them what was their argument?
- 11:25Speaker 2: They they thought that it would be misconstrued. They thought
- 11:28Speaker 2: that folks would take it as you know, I'm siding
- 11:32Speaker 2: with the Democrats or whatever. And I and to which
- 11:34Speaker 2: I said, you know, list in America has has no
- 11:37Speaker 2: sides per se. You know, you're either for America or
- 11:40Speaker 2: you're not, you know, and everyone knows that I'm going
- 11:43Speaker 2: to stand. I'm going to clap for all the things
- 11:44Speaker 2: that you know, the President was saying. And I said,
- 11:49Speaker 2: and plus, I know what the Democrats are going to do.
- 11:53Speaker 2: They're going to sit on their hands and we're going
- 11:56Speaker 2: to hear some pretty incredible things. And maybe I can
- 11:59Speaker 2: just lead by example and show them how to stand
- 12:02Speaker 2: because clearly they've forgotten. Now when my team was like, oh, no,
- 12:06Speaker 2: you can't do that.
- 12:07Speaker 1: But weren't their seats available? I mean, some Democrats didn't go, right.
- 12:13Speaker 2: We had seventy Democrats that didn't go. And so originally
- 12:16Speaker 2: when I got to the chamber, and let me tell
- 12:17Speaker 2: you this is this is high stake stuff. For about
- 12:20Speaker 2: eight hours prior because we had been voting in the
- 12:22Speaker 2: chamber throughout the day, members were taking and duct taping
- 12:28Speaker 2: down their business cards to like mark their territory, and
- 12:31Speaker 2: everyone was, you know, positioning for great you know, all
- 12:35Speaker 2: these seats and all these areas. They wanted to shake
- 12:37Speaker 2: the President's hand and do all this. And I'm like,
- 12:39Speaker 2: you know, I'm just I've never been that type. Like
- 12:42Speaker 2: I just I don't fangirl. Yeah, and that's not me.
- 12:47Speaker 2: And so I said, you know, I think I can.
- 12:49Speaker 2: I think I could do something a little bit more
- 12:52Speaker 2: my my style, which is, you know, kind of rib
- 12:55Speaker 2: the left a little bit. And so I originally sat
- 12:57Speaker 2: down next to Nancy Pelosi and she did not appreciate that.
- 13:07Speaker 2: But it was funny because I was chatting with her
- 13:10Speaker 2: and she did not appreciate the roast that I had
- 13:14Speaker 2: done on her a few weeks prior, and she remembered
- 13:17Speaker 2: that and we were chatting and she said, well, you know,
- 13:21Speaker 2: there's some seats down on the front available and she
- 13:23Speaker 2: pointed out Chuck Schumer, and I said, you know what,
- 13:26Speaker 2: You're right because, as I said earlier, the opposition is
- 13:31Speaker 2: the Democrats in the House, but our true enemy is
- 13:33Speaker 2: the Senate. So I made my way down to the
- 13:36Speaker 2: front and I sat behind the Supreme Court, right next
- 13:39Speaker 2: to Chuck Schumer. And it was great because he is
- 13:43Speaker 2: the perhaps most miserable human being in the Senate. And
- 13:47Speaker 2: talk about an American. When they were pinning, when they
- 13:50Speaker 2: were putting the Medal of Honor on the helicopter pilot
- 13:53Speaker 2: from the Venezuela operation, and you know, the chamber is erupting.
- 13:58Speaker 2: He turns and says, oh, good grief. And so to
- 14:03Speaker 2: be able to hear that his real true disdain not
- 14:07Speaker 2: just for the President, but for all the things that
- 14:10Speaker 2: America stands for, it really was shocking. But it was
- 14:17Speaker 2: good for me to hear that because it really just
- 14:19Speaker 2: kind of lit the fire under me that I'm going
- 14:21Speaker 2: to do everything I possibly can to make life for
- 14:24Speaker 2: him miserable, absolutely miserable.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Well, you know what's interesting is Chuck Schumer used to
- 14:28Speaker 1: stand for a lot of those things that he now
- 14:30Speaker 1: stands against, and we have the receipts, we have the tape,
- 14:35Speaker 1: we have the speeches on the Senate floor when he
- 14:38Speaker 1: used to oppose illegal immigration, when he used to stand
- 14:41Speaker 1: for things that he now hates and rejects. So good
- 14:44Speaker 1: on you. Kat. I just want to let you know
- 14:47Speaker 1: that the people in this audience were proud. And here's
- 14:50Speaker 1: the thing, not only proud of you, but proud of
- 14:53Speaker 1: the fact that you come on this show. You're a
- 14:56Speaker 1: friend of this program and we appreciate that very much.
- 14:59Speaker 1: And you got a lot of people praying for you
- 15:01Speaker 1: and pulling for you.
- 15:02Speaker 2: So Hank Tough, I appreciate it. We're going to keep
- 15:05Speaker 2: up the good fight Farmville. This week, big consequences for Florida,
- 15:10Speaker 2: and we're going to fight.
- 15:11Speaker 3: The good fight.
- 15:12Speaker 2: So appreciate y'all.
- 15:13Speaker 3: God blessed. Take care.
