- 0:00To talk from Missouri, Brett, you're on.
- 0:05Hey, how you doing? I hope you guys are having a
- 0:08nice Christmas, Yeah. Thank you A.
- 0:12Good Sunday. Well, I I do have a couple
- 0:15questions if you guys have the time for me.
- 0:20Sure. One of the first questions I
- 0:22have is I used to be a former atheist myself.
- 0:26I think some of you might actually Remember Me being one
- 0:30of the first to come to social media and make videos and all
- 0:34that. I spent a great deal of time
- 0:36listening to atheists. I've got a lot of friends who
- 0:39are non believers and I've discovered that on YouTube a lot
- 0:42of them say I'm happy, I'm fine with being an atheist, I don't
- 0:47need God, I don't need the Bible.
- 0:50But when they're in private with people they say things like I'm
- 0:54suicidal, I'm unhappy. I have a lot of psychological
- 0:58issues because of abuse or tragedies that have happened in
- 1:01my life and it's really correlated with my concept or
- 1:05belief and a higher power in the universe.
- 1:08And I was wondering why do you think it is that non believers
- 1:11act one way on video but in private with people that they
- 1:16trust or respect, they'll say things like this.
- 1:19Why? Why the double face for Hey?
- 1:23Brett So when you were an atheist, you didn't learn how to
- 1:25make an honest argument, right? I've made plenty of arguments.
- 1:29How come atheists do this one way what not?
- 1:33How come there's a group of people?
- 1:35How come some people do this? I love this categorical.
- 1:38How come atheists do this one? Where is this This Why the
- 1:43double face from atheists? Yeah, there's, there's plenty of
- 1:46people in lots of different categories who are not going to
- 1:49go public with their private concerns, people's personal
- 1:53mental health issues and troubles and trials.
- 1:54Of course, that's more likely to be discussed with friends than
- 1:57it is with us. I can tell you this, I am not
- 1:59now, nor have I ever been suicidal.
- 2:02I did not. I was not wronged in any way.
- 2:04And I'm happy to answer almost any question about my life.
- 2:08But if you're going to call in and be, oh, I used to be an
- 2:10atheist. And why do you think atheists
- 2:12are like this? Well, I want to know why you
- 2:14used to be an atheist, why you're not anymore.
- 2:16And why, when you're asking this question, did you frame this the
- 2:19way Jimmy pointed out that, oh, why do atheists do this?
- 2:22Don't think Christians do this? You don't think Mormons do this?
- 2:24You don't think Jews? I mean, Mormons are probably
- 2:27some of the worst of it because they have a church encouraging
- 2:30them to put a good face on things publicly.
- 2:33Well, the reason why I bring it up is it's something that's been
- 2:36going on for the last 20 years. According to stats, atheists
- 2:41have quadrupled the amount of suicide rate as well as
- 2:44substance abuse over any group out there.
- 2:47It's been going on for. Are you capable of actually
- 2:50addressing the issue honestly? Yeah, I'm asking why do you
- 2:54think the stats are that atheists had they just a massive
- 2:58amount of suicide rate and substance abuse?
- 3:03Oh, OK, now you've had. A substance abuse in it too.
- 3:06Go ahead, Ben. Well, well my question like how?
- 3:09Did you? So how did you relate the the
- 3:12depression and and mental health issues to the lack of belief
- 3:16when, at least in my experience, any issues that I've had with
- 3:19that have been related to human beings doing things to other
- 3:23human beings. So how is that related to the
- 3:26belief or lack of lack thereof, and not caused by something else
- 3:32that is, you know, more mundane? Well, just earlier today I did
- 3:37my own live show on GOD TV Radio and I had Atheist on there and
- 3:41they did exactly the same thing except for one of them.
- 3:44He was very, very honest. Now it took a little while but
- 3:48some of them started admitting because of their parenting.
- 3:51Mute, mute breast. Dishonest fucking ass.
- 3:55Don't you dare, Sir. Pretend that they all did the
- 3:57same thing, but one of them was honest.
- 3:59Go fuck yourself. Yeah, they were.
- 4:01Oh, is that that joyous, happy attitude there, Matt Weren't.
- 4:06Honest. Prove that.
- 4:07You call it honest by personally attacking someone when I've been
- 4:11nothing but respectful and just pointing out the facts, no?
- 4:14Sir, no, Sir, you're a you have not been respectful.
- 4:19The point that I made, if you'd have listened, was why did you
- 4:22frame it as if the people who fit your narrative were being
- 4:25honest and the others weren't? Matt, we're talking about stats
- 4:30and actual facts. You sound like you're getting
- 4:32very angry. I don't hear the joy in you.
- 4:35All right. Look here, I'm talking fucking
- 4:39disgusting lying. I've muted you.
- 4:41I'm going to write this one more time.
- 4:44Why would you, in talking about what happened on your show,
- 4:49claim that the atheists who talked about their depression or
- 4:53issues or suicidal tendencies were the only ones who were
- 4:58honest? Why would you frame it muting
- 5:01you now? You're I heard a beep noise.
- 5:04Did you say you finally unmuted me?
- 5:09Yeah, because I, like I said before, I've talked to these
- 5:12people in private. It's a different story.
- 5:15But some of them, whenever they get on their cameras, they
- 5:18pretend as though everything's great and wonderful.
- 5:21But the stats do not show that. But am I on like a different
- 5:26planet? Because I'm pretty sure this is
- 5:27a universal human experience that when you are around people
- 5:31in public, you act one way, you put on a front, and then when
- 5:35you're in private you are more inclined to divulge the personal
- 5:39things you're going through. This is universal across the
- 5:42human experience is not an atheism.
- 5:44Thing Yeah, Brett's just learning about social
- 5:46performance and it's blowing his mind.
- 5:48Well it's not just that. It's according to stats.
- 5:51Although there are Christians who have committed suicide.
- 5:54Fucking. Time without explaining where
- 5:56they're coming from or what. Even when you said are the stats
- 6:00aren't the stats aren't. Atheists are more private, but
- 6:04if you say you have a stat that you've been so far unsighted,
- 6:07but whatever that suggests that atheists, that non believers
- 6:12have a tendency to participate in suicidality or depression or
- 6:15whatever else, we can engage with that without it having a
- 6:19single thing to do. And This is why I know.
- 6:22I know what your motivations are here.
- 6:24I know your motivations are to bring in this concept that you
- 6:28will be more miserable after being a non believer.
- 6:31And then that should somehow suggest because there would be a
- 6:34God bringing you some kind of joy if you were a believer.
- 6:37We all know that that's the implicit fucking argument here.
- 6:39And I have Matt brought up Mormonism.
- 6:41I have something to share with you.
- 6:43My days as a believer were my most miserable.
- 6:46This the times I was the most suicidal and attempted suicide
- 6:51was my days as a believer because I so could not exist as
- 6:55the person I actually am comfortably within a group of
- 7:00believers who believe many things about my identity make me
- 7:03essentially pathetic and filthy and everything else.
- 7:07So it's if you want to engage on the actual argument of even if
- 7:10this stat is true still would not indicate whether or not God
- 7:14exists or not. And by the way, we would then
- 7:17also get to talk about society's part in all of that because as a
- 7:21non believer, I have been ostracized more than as a queer
- 7:26person. And we know that queer people
- 7:28often have a higher rate of depression and suicidality
- 7:31because their communities turn on them because they they
- 7:36experience from religious fucking people that
- 7:41ostracization that that you're a piece of shit.
- 7:44So let me answer the question for you, Brett.
- 7:47The reason why people in communities become depressed
- 7:50after they lose faith is assholes like you.
- 7:55So it's my fault why the the majority of atheists are
- 7:59suicidal depressed. Oh my God.
- 8:01Specifically. It sounds like victim virtue to
- 8:06me a little bit there. You're blaming other people for
- 8:09your own issues sounds like. To you, I'm going to give you
- 8:11exactly, I'm going to give you exactly one more chance to have
- 8:14an honest conversation because I'm happy to tell you that yes,
- 8:18there are people who are atheists who are suffering and
- 8:23some of them aren't going to talk about it.
- 8:24And the reason is because there are different social boundaries
- 8:27with which people are comfortable with and, and
- 8:29atheists as a maligned minority, we don't have the support
- 8:35networks installed in place. We don't have the mountain of
- 8:37privilege that religions have. We don't have any of that.
- 8:41And so at this time of year when people are going to visit their
- 8:45families, because that's what people do frequently around
- 8:47Christmas, if you're the only atheist there and everybody else
- 8:51just talking about Jesus this and church that and Jesus this
- 8:54and church that, and talking about political views and things
- 8:59that set these people aside in a different bucket, of course
- 9:03you're going to be depressed because or sad or upset because
- 9:07you are part of the minority. Now let's go back to the actual
- 9:11issue here and see there are studies that address happiness.
- 9:17And with regard to theism or atheism, those things have
- 9:20nothing to do with whether or not a God exists.
- 9:22I'd like to ask you, Brett, what convinced you that a God exists?
- 9:27Well, there I will go into that with you.
- 9:29But I do also want to point out that according to stats
- 9:33According to stats, theists have happier, longer lives.
- 9:39You will answer my question now because we have honestly
- 9:43addressed your question several times or I will drop you from
- 9:46this call and not engage with you any further.
- 9:50I'm unmuting you now. OK, So what's your question?
- 9:55Go fuck yourself, Brett. If you're not going to listen to
- 9:57my one question, why should I talk to you at?
- 10:00All well, it's difficult with the beep noises going on in the
- 10:03ear. I didn't quite hear it.
- 10:05You said something about unmuting.
- 10:08Fucking liar. There was no beep when I asked.
- 10:11When the music. Changes that a God existed you
- 10:15lying piece of shit. Because it is more rational and
- 10:19logical to believe there's more to the universe than just simply
- 10:22stating it all poofed into existence from nothingness.
- 10:25That's. Not an answer to my.
- 10:27Question. That's my answer.
- 10:29I'm telling you why I think it's a more rational, logical
- 10:32position explained. By anybody objecting me dropping
- 10:35him like a hot rock right now. I I I kind of want to.
- 10:38Educate his ass. I get it.
- 10:39You want easy Christians? You want easy Christians to
- 10:42debate? I understand.
- 10:43Oh. Hang on, hang on, hang on.
- 10:46No, no, no. Fuck you, Brett.
- 10:48I muted you. I don't want easy Christians.
- 10:50I want honest Christians. I'm the one of the two of us
- 10:53that have been engaged in more fucking debates than you would
- 10:56ever hope to imagine to. And I have debated the most
- 10:59dishonest motherfuckers on the planet, and I have debated some
- 11:02of the most wonderful, honest people on the planet.
- 11:04And when I asked one of those honest people what convinced
- 11:07them that a God exists, they don't spit some fucking pablum
- 11:11about how it's more rational. Of course you think it's more
- 11:13rational. That was a fucking given.
- 11:16I wanted to be actual evidence or argument, but you can't have
- 11:19that honest conversation and in response to it you decide to
- 11:22shit on all the other Christians and pretend that they're less
- 11:25honest than you. I didn't say anything like that.
- 11:28We'll. Let everybody else deal with you
- 11:29now while I play chess. All right, can I ask another
- 11:35question? A more sciencey thing than
- 11:37psychological. We're not done with the question
- 11:40we asked. You well, you said he was going
- 11:41to go play chess. I didn't know he was still there
- 11:44and. I'm still here, Mother fucker.
- 11:46Brett, you were asked why you believe in God and you said
- 11:50because it's more rational to believe that there's more to the
- 11:54universe than it just pooped into existence, which is not an
- 11:58explanation for God. Because I think everybody here
- 12:00thinks that there's more of an explanation than fucking magic,
- 12:04which is what pooped into existence means.
- 12:07So you haven't even given you're a theist, we're atheist, and you
- 12:11gave your reasoning being acclaimed that.
- 12:15I think all four of us also claim we think that it's more
- 12:19than just pooped into the universe because we wouldn't say
- 12:22something so radically stupid to describe The Big Bang.
- 12:27Well, one of the one of the reasons, one of the well, I'm
- 12:32trying to answer your question, one of the positions that
- 12:35atheists hold is that they go along with science and a pop
- 12:39Nope, Nope, Nope, Nope. What's the problem?
- 12:42I'm trying to answer your question.
- 12:43Your answer to why you believe in God does not begin with one
- 12:48of the positions which atheists hold.
- 12:52Your answer to I, why I do I believe in God begins with I
- 12:57believe in God because would you like to engage with it honestly,
- 13:01Brett? Sure, sure, sure.
- 13:03And I get that you want to put people on the corner and all
- 13:06that. You don't want to allow
- 13:08explanation the. Next words out of your mouth,
- 13:10they're going to be I believe in God because.
- 13:13Go I believe in God because the universe has a supernatural
- 13:17origin. Demonstrate that.
- 13:20Well if you believe in The Big Bang then you have to believe
- 13:24some prime mover or no is my answer.
- 13:27Oh, I see you fucking. Idiot.
- 13:31So it's not supernatural. The universe didn't.
- 13:34So you can know how to obviously.
- 13:36Engage because it does not start with if you believe The Big
- 13:41Bang, then you have to believe blah blah blah.
- 13:43We're talking about your belief in God and you've said that it
- 13:48the origin of the universe has a supernatural beginning.
- 13:51I said demonstrate it. An example of a sentence which
- 13:55might do that would be the universe has a supernatural
- 13:59beginning because and then the the answer would follow.
- 14:03OK, the answer is there are. Some other.
- 14:06Ones Brett, the answer is the same.
- 14:08Dishonest route again. OK, choose your.
- 14:11Favorite, but I've given you a good example.
- 14:15All right, so as I was saying, the answer is because space and
- 14:20time and matter came into existence.
- 14:23Supernatural is defined by something that exists outside of
- 14:26nature. That's the very classic
- 14:28definition of it. So The Big Bang is supernatural
- 14:32by origin. No.
- 14:36No. You are incorrect that nature
- 14:39came in, necessarily came into the existence, the nature which
- 14:42we interact with, sure, but what you are describing, if what you
- 14:47are describing was true, why does no physicist follow that
- 14:52same line of reasoning? Well, most physicists believe in
- 14:56The Big Bang, that it actually happened, that space-time and
- 14:59matter came into existence. Space-time and matter all in an
- 15:05all likely by a natural. Hey, by the way, Brett, I'm not
- 15:08even telling you that it didn't happen by supernatural means.
- 15:12Of course not. I'm telling.
- 15:13You that there has been no demonstration of whether or not
- 15:17The Big Bang happened by natural or supernatural.
- 15:19That said, natural things have been demonstrated billions of
- 15:24times over. Supernatural things have been
- 15:26demonstrated to even be possible a whopping 0 times.
- 15:32So the rational person, as you like to talk about rationality
- 15:36goes. Which one of those am I going to
- 15:39line up with? A supernatural explanation with
- 15:42its zero demonstrations of ever occurring or the natural, the
- 15:46potential for a natural explanation?
- 15:48Which one am I going to presume though with the ability to be
- 15:52incorrect? But it's probably more likely to
- 15:55be the category under which The Big Bang follows.
- 16:00Well, the rational. Person's face, right?
- 16:03Well, it is rational and logical.
- 16:05If you believe in The Big Bang, then you believe in the
- 16:07supernatural origin. You guys don't feel like you
- 16:14have a lot of happiness and joy in.
- 16:16You sound very angry. That was where he wanted to
- 16:20identify as the sexiest man alive.
- 16:23So I already knew it was going to be a stupid call in the 1st
- 16:25place, but does anyone want to be some threat before we go?
- 16:28The only thing I have to add is that a study from Bridge
- 16:31examined the raise risk of suicide amongst people with
- 16:36different religious affiliations and the most at risk group
- 16:41differs based on age range. It seems to be a significant
- 16:48factor. There was also factors like
- 16:51social class, academic qualifications, and marital
- 16:53statuses seem to have far more significant impact than religion
- 16:58did. So this whole stat say.
- 17:01Sounds like you found one study that might have suggested that,
- 17:04which in no way suggests that the cause of the suicidality is
- 17:08atheism, much in the same way that the cause of suicidality
- 17:12and trans people. As was pointed out earlier, it's
- 17:14not trans people trans miss, it's often the society and the
- 17:18culture and the environment that they're in.
- 17:21I don't think you've demonstrated in any capacity
- 17:23that atheism is the cause of suicidality, and the data do not
- 17:29support your conclusion. So get fucked, Brett.
- 17:33Well the information can be found on Richard Dawkins
- 17:36website. Aren't you guys buddies with
- 17:37them? You might want to ask him, he
- 17:39talks about it. Oh my God, you can go tog, touch
- 17:44Dawkins spark box somewhere else.
- 17:46Brett But you guys don't like Richard Dawkins anymore.
- 17:49I love that. You started this I don't like.
- 17:51You. I love that you started this was
- 17:53I used to be an atheist and then you were like, but don't worry,
- 17:56I'm going to spend this entire call showing that I never
- 17:59understood even the notion of skepticism because Jesus Christ,
- 18:04it didn't get. Close.
- 18:05So you guys were saying earlier, if you don't mind me asking, you
- 18:09have a difficult time being able to do the holidays because of
- 18:12religious issues. All right, see you later.
- 18:15There. You scared of me?
- 18:16Are you? See you later.
