- 0:00Hanan: Welcome back, everyone, to another episode of Obnoxiously Pleasant.
- 0:03Hanan: Lina, like, how else?
- 0:05Hanan: She's gotten used to it.
- 0:06Hanan: She has succumbed to it still.
- 0:09Hanan: Yeah.
- 0:09Hanan: It still like hurts me a little bit.
- 0:11Hanan: Yeah.
- 0:11Hanan: But at least that'll make you say I'm Henan and I'm Lena, right?
- 0:14Lina: I mean, you had me do that last time, didn't we?
- 0:16Hanan: I didn't do that.
- 0:17Hanan: All right.
- 0:17Hanan: Fine.
- 0:18Lina: Yeah.
- 0:18Hanan: All right.
- 0:19Hanan: So what's going on?
- 0:20Lina: Uh you saw the baseball clip?
- 0:22Lina: The lady at the baseball game?
- 0:23Lina: Yeah, I did see the baseball clip.
- 0:24Lina: Okay.
- 0:25Hanan: That's what we wanted to talk to you guys about.
- 0:27Lina: Well, not the whole episode, but it's a it's the starting off point.
- 0:29Lina: Okay.
- 0:30Lina: For another topic.
- 0:30Lina: We'll get there.
- 0:32Lina: Okay.
- 0:32Lina: Go ahead and put it in so everybody who hasn't seen it.
- 0:34Lina: No, I mean, we're gonna play it.
- 0:35Lina: People have said I'll as we're talking, I'll just put it.
- 0:38Lina: It's basically this lady, this mom.
- 0:40Lina: This uh uh video went viral.
- 0:42Hanan: Wife and mom.
- 0:43Lina: Yeah.
- 0:43Lina: The uh uh announcers at a baseball game, you know, the camera pants to them.
- 0:48Lina: Okay.
- 0:48Hanan: They did it really dirty.
- 0:49Lina: Yeah, and she's carrying the baby, and she's carrying like three trays of food.
- 0:53Lina: Yeah, and then she goes back to her seat and her husband's sitting there.
- 0:56Lina: And the internet had a lot of things.
- 0:59Hanan: They had a field date, and I just feel like the announcers did her dirty.
- 1:02Hanan: The internet did her dirty.
- 1:03Hanan: The woman had to come out and come out with tightened time out, time out.
- 1:07Lina: Before we get to the dirty, time out, time out.
- 1:09Lina: He did it dirty.
- 1:10Lina: Your initial reaction, be honest, before any of the backstory, your initial reaction.
- 1:14Hanan: No, no, even before the backstory, I was just like, oh my gosh, what's happening?
- 1:16Hanan: But at the same time, the other part of my brain always, I'm like, oh my gosh, that's so annoying.
- 1:21Hanan: But the other part of my brain thinks to myself, it's like, well, these people were like not prepared for that either.
- 1:25Hanan: I don't even care about the backstory.
- 1:27Hanan: Yeah, I just think sometimes the internet takes a clip of something, they build a narrative around it, and that becomes reality, whether it's reality or not.
- 1:34Hanan: And that's actually what I have a problem with.
- 1:36Hanan: I yes, maybe they're not like the best partner.
- 1:39Hanan: I I to be honest with you, I don't really care.
- 1:41Hanan: If I'm completely honest, what I care about is the fact that the internet does do that.
- 1:45Hanan: Like it's a wild place.
- 1:46Hanan: You they take they see a clip, they take something, and they turn it into something completely different.
- 1:52Hanan: Like the other day, yeah, yesterday was on TikTok, and there's this like makeup influencer that I follow you, and she just attended a friend's wedding.
- 1:58Hanan: Okay, she was wearing a baby blue dress.
- 2:00Hanan: Now, in photos, it looks off-white in real life and in video, it looks baby blue.
- 2:07Hanan: The internet wiped the floor with her without even seeing video footage first.
- 2:12Hanan: I understand.
- 2:13Hanan: Do you know the bride had to come out and actually defend her friend?
- 2:16Lina: I know.
- 2:16Lina: It was but terrible.
- 2:17Lina: I know, I know.
- 2:18Lina: Like, people get carried away online, obviously.
- 2:20Lina: Okay, but the like I put the poll.
- 2:22Lina: You saw the poll.
- 2:23Lina: Okay, and what was the first option was yes, uh, call the lawyer.
- 2:27Lina: The second option was what?
- 2:28Lina: I said no, I need more information.
- 2:30Lina: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:31Lina: A lot of people didn't even click no.
- 2:32Lina: Do you know what the percentage 96?
- 2:34Lina: 90% of people said yes, call the lawyer.
- 2:37Lina: And only 10% were like, I need more information first.
- 2:40Lina: I need more information first.
- 2:41Hanan: You know, I felt really bad for her that she had to put out that state.
- 2:43Hanan: And she put out a state messages.
- 2:45Hanan: Yeah, let me let me read it.
- 2:46Hanan: My sister's the one who sent me that uh today, actually.
- 2:50Hanan: And I was looking at it and I was like, Hadam.
- 2:52Hanan: Like, yeah, she felt she felt like she had to go out and put that out there to the public who doesn't deserve it.
- 2:56Lina: Yeah, so it was a really long post.
- 2:58Lina: Yeah.
- 2:59Lina: Okay, but she at the end she says, I understand and appreciate the kind words about being super mom.
- 3:03Lina: It is flattering to be called mom of the year.
- 3:06Lina: But alongside those compliments have come assumptions about my marriage that are simply not true.
- 3:11Lina: Some people may have seen something in the clip that reminded them of a relationship in which they felt alone or unsupported.
- 3:18Lina: I'm sorry if it brought back something painful, but this is not my story.
- 3:22Lina: You can appreciate what I was doing that night without assuming I have to do everything alone.
- 3:26Lina: Supporting me also means listening when I tell you about my own life.
- 3:30Lina: That night my husband needed me.
- 3:32Lina: I wanted to be there for him.
- 3:33Lina: Thank you for dubbing me mom of the year.
- 3:35Lina: Please believe me when I tell you I can only um be so with the dad sitting next to me.
- 3:40Lina: See?
- 3:41Lina: Okay.
- 3:42Hanan: So now do you My girl?
- 3:44Hanan: But I I also feel bad that she had to even like put that up.
- 3:47Lina: Yeah, I mean, listen, it's really like when a clip goes viral and you weren't even like prepared for that and it wasn't like sometimes I'm okay with things going viral.
- 3:55Hanan: Yeah.
- 3:55Hanan: Like remember the uh the couple at the Coldplay concert that were both cheating on their spouses.
- 3:59Hanan: You know what?
- 3:59Hanan: They did that.
- 4:00Hanan: I don't yeah, I don't feel bad about at all.
- 4:02Hanan: I mean, they had look, I do, you know, I don't feel I do feel bad for the um like their family members that you know from just the just from the aftermath of that clip being shared.
- 4:13Hanan: Um, yes, I feel bad for his wife or her husband if there's children.
- 4:18Hanan: I think they're both children, I'm not sure, but I just those people I feel bad for, but them I'm like, no.
- 4:23Hanan: Oh out there to cold play concert yes, that's definitely the the those guys deserve it.
- 4:28Hanan: I know.
- 4:28Lina: Okay, but here's the thing.
- 4:29Lina: But then this lady I felt bad for.
- 4:31Lina: I really I mean, yeah, I mean she shared on her post.
- 4:34Lina: You see, all like it was really long.
- 4:35Lina: I'm like, okay, just like you could have said this.
- 4:37Hanan: No, I actually so here's my thing.
- 4:39Hanan: No, it's not about being long or short.
- 4:41Hanan: I actually felt bad that she had to go out there and yeah, like just you know, to to like but see, people make assumptions all the time.
- 4:48Hanan: Oh, yeah.
- 4:49Lina: Okay, people make assumptions.
- 4:50Hanan: We make assumptions all the time.
- 4:51Lina: That's true, but I try not to anyway.
- 4:53Lina: I do my best.
- 4:54Lina: I do not, I do not always automatically assume like the worst about people.
- 4:59Hanan: I'm not saying the worst, but you make assumptions.
- 5:00Lina: Assumptions aren't necessarily bad.
- 5:02Lina: That's okay.
- 5:03Lina: Well, I'm not judgmental.
- 5:04Lina: That's we all make assumptions.
- 5:06Hanan: People who say I'm not judgmental usually are the most judgmental.
- 5:08Hanan: I'm just saying.
- 5:09Lina: Anyway, listen, this this is.
- 5:10Lina: No, no, no, no, no, not anyways.
- 5:12Lina: Stick to my point here.
- 5:14Hanan: No, Lena says I'm not judgmental.
- 5:15Hanan: Lena's so judgmental.
- 5:16Hanan: I'm judgmental.
- 5:17Lina: How am I judgmental?
- 5:18Lina: You are judgmental.
- 5:19Lina: When was the last time I judged someone?
- 5:21Lina: Tell me.
- 5:22Lina: We are all judgmental.
- 5:23Lina: Share an example.
- 5:24Hanan: We are all judgmental.
- 5:26Lina: Share an example.
- 5:26Hanan: What do you mean, share an example?
- 5:28Hanan: So if you see somebody and you have questions about whatever it is that they're doing with their lives, you don't make assumptions.
- 5:34Hanan: No, you know what it is?
- 5:35Lina: For me, I don't even do that.
- 5:36Lina: I'm like, I see someone, I don't like their vibe.
- 5:38Lina: I'm like, nope, I don't need to know them.
- 5:39Hanan: You just judge them.
- 5:40Lina: No, I'm just like, yeah, the vibe, okay, but I don't care how they live their life.
- 5:43Lina: Exactly.
- 5:44Lina: I don't care.
- 5:44Hanan: You make at the end of the day, you make assumptions.
- 5:47Hanan: Okay.
- 5:48Hanan: Stop pretending like you don't judge people because human beings, innately, we judge each other.
- 5:53Hanan: The sooner you come to terms with that, the better you'll feel.
- 5:56Lina: All right.
- 5:56Lina: So, anyway, this this whole like viral clip had me thinking about how some women, some, okay, uh, sometimes stay with their partner.
- 6:07Lina: Making exceptions.
- 6:08Lina: I mean, whatever.
- 6:10Lina: I mean, like, some women accept the bare minimum.
- 6:12Hanan: Like, why is that?
- 6:13Hanan: But your bare minimum is someone else's okay, as someone else's bare minimum.
- 6:18Hanan: Okay, okay, that's fine.
- 6:19Hanan: That's fair.
- 6:19Hanan: That's a that's a fair point.
- 6:21Lina: But here's my question to you.
- 6:22Lina: What there are there has to be some basics, no?
- 6:25Lina: In a relationship.
- 6:27Hanan: Yeah, but at the same time, yes, I agree with you.
- 6:29Hanan: At the same time, everyone's basics are different.
- 6:33Hanan: Everyone's like everyone's low bar and high bar are set in different places.
- 6:37Hanan: You know what I mean?
- 6:38Hanan: What you might find unacceptable, I may be okay with, and vice versa.
- 6:42Hanan: So I can't be out here telling people this is the bare minimum.
- 6:46Hanan: For me, I can tell you what the bare minimum for me is.
- 6:49Hanan: I can't tell you what the bare minimum for you is, right?
- 6:52Hanan: So the whole premise of people accepting the bare minimum, I don't genuinely believe in that.
- 6:59Hanan: Everybody's bare minimum is different because I look at it, I say I don't accept that.
- 7:03Hanan: But just because I don't doesn't mean someone else does.
- 7:06Hanan: Does that make sense?
- 7:06Hanan: I understand what you're saying, but there are some things.
- 7:09Lina: Okay, so what's what's the role of a partner?
- 7:12Hanan: Oh, that again, for people, people bring partners into their lives for very different reasons, right?
- 7:17Hanan: Okay.
- 7:18Hanan: My role for a partner, my partner is, you know, we're alhamdulillah, we've been like in a very long-standing marriage, is honestly more than anything, is to be my friend.
- 7:27Hanan: Okay.
- 7:28Hanan: More than anything else, is for us to be friends, for him to be a good support system, for him to listen to my.
- 7:33Hanan: I mean, just this morning I had a whole conversation.
- 7:35Hanan: Sometimes I feel like he's subjected to like a Virginia Wolf novel.
- 7:39Hanan: It's just streams from my consciousness.
- 7:40Hanan: Okay.
- 7:41Hanan: So for me, that's what I need.
- 7:44Hanan: That may not work for someone else, right?
- 7:46Lina: Okay, so here's here's that's fine.
- 7:48Lina: You're being very like politically correct.
- 7:49Lina: No, no, no, it's not about politically correct.
- 7:50Lina: Okay, here's here's here.
- 7:52Lina: So you don't you don't have any friends or people, not even friends, like acquaintances, people you work with, where you look at that relationship, you're like, oh my God, like why are these people still in that fucking marriage?
- 8:02Lina: Judgmental.
- 8:03Lina: Come on, be honest, be honest, just be honest.
- 8:05Hanan: All the time I look at them and I don't know, to be honest with you, sometimes, yes, it blows my mind, but I don't know why these people are together.
- 8:11Hanan: There has to be a reason.
- 8:13Hanan: Sometimes I'm like, do they have blackmail on each other?
- 8:15Hanan: Does somebody owe money together?
- 8:16Lina: Okay, but there are but what's what's the point here?
- 8:19Lina: The point is that there is something wrong in that relationship.
- 8:22Hanan: Yeah, but again, for me, to be honest with you, I'm not gonna solve it.
- 8:25Hanan: I'm not gonna try to figure out.
- 8:26Hanan: And as someone who's tried to help people in that position before, not gonna do it.
- 8:31Hanan: Not gonna do it, not gonna worry about why, not gonna even think about why.
- 8:35Hanan: And it's not about being politically correct or not.
- 8:37Hanan: It's honestly at the end of the day, I really cannot figure out why some people are together and then it uh and and what keeps them together, right?
- 8:46Hanan: Maybe it's their children, maybe it's fear, maybe there's so many reasons.
- 8:50Lina: Okay, so here's the quote, here's okay, let me let me get your thoughts on this.
- 8:53Lina: You've heard this growing up, and I'm not saying it's from our family or whatever, just in general, you've heard people say, Oh, well, as long as he doesn't cheat on you, as long as he doesn't abuse you, as long as he's a good dad, right?
- 9:06Lina: You've heard that before.
- 9:07Lina: Yeah, okay.
- 9:08Lina: Okay, so what what do you think about that?
- 9:10Lina: Is that enough?
- 9:11Lina: Is that enough for a relationship?
- 9:12Lina: No, because that's a very toxic thing.
- 9:14Hanan: We have all agreed to the fact that the way that like our some parts of our society are very toxic.
- 9:21Hanan: That's not about bare minimum or max or anything like that.
- 9:23Hanan: That whole concept is wrong.
- 9:25Hanan: It's wrong to tell somebody, well, if these people, if this person is not these horrendous things, then they're okay.
- 9:32Hanan: No, because they might not be these horrendous things and still not be okay.
- 9:36Hanan: That's what we should actually be talking about, right?
- 9:38Hanan: The problem is we don't teach people properly what to look for in a relationship.
- 9:43Hanan: Like you're telling, okay, you're telling me as uh growing up as a young woman, let's talk about us, forget other people.
- 9:48Hanan: Okay.
- 9:49Hanan: Somebody told you this is what you should look for in a relationship.
- 9:51Hanan: No, you kind of figure that out as well.
- 9:53Hanan: Oh, you figure that out.
- 9:54Hanan: Yeah, that's true.
- 9:55Hanan: It's not like your mom sat you down and was like, hey, Alina, because I know my mom didn't do that.
- 9:58Lina: No, no, my mom didn't know.
- 9:59Hanan: She didn't sit down and said, This is qualities of a good husband.
- 10:01Hanan: You know what I mean?
- 10:02Hanan: You gotta just look at the other thing.
- 10:03Hanan: Yeah, but you have around.
- 10:04Hanan: Yeah, but you have examples too.
- 10:05Hanan: You have ex, but again, again, I think even in the examples we have around us, there are things that like I don't know.
- 10:13Hanan: Like, I look sometimes at myself and I look at my husband and I'm like, we've been through this crazy like voyage of life together, right?
- 10:20Hanan: There, if there are things where we both weren't willing to work on ourselves as people, like we wouldn't have made it.
- 10:26Hanan: So the concept of bare minimum, I don't even really think about it that way because sometimes people are just surviving.
- 10:32Hanan: Like I think of new parents, right?
- 10:34Hanan: You're somebody you had twins.
- 10:36Hanan: Yes.
- 10:37Hanan: Those first six weeks with one baby are so hard.
- 10:41Hanan: With two, like you're not sleeping, you're not eating properly, like you, it's it's literally like being like tortured in the best way possible.
- 10:48Hanan: Right.
- 10:48Hanan: Okay.
- 10:49Hanan: So if you're not like if you and your partner like aren't in sync, if you guys aren't there to support each other physically, mentally, emotionally, I don't think people's relationships would survive, you know?
- 11:00Hanan: And that's something is that's something that's a decision that you made to bring somebody into the world, right?
- 11:04Hanan: Okay.
- 11:05Hanan: So I think about like that's what I mean.
- 11:06Hanan: When I say when people say like bare minimum, the reason I don't like subscribe to that because I don't think there's a bare minimum.
- 11:12Hanan: I think there's a bare minimum.
- 11:13Hanan: I think there is.
- 11:14Hanan: I mean, for you, yes, I think for me.
- 11:18Lina: But I don't think there's a bare minimum for everybody across the board.
- 11:21Lina: And I think here's the thing there's many factors as to why uh a woman or any any, it could be a man in a in a in a bad relationship.
- 11:28Lina: Yeah, a person, you know, it doesn't have to be strictly to a woman.
- 11:31Lina: There's obvious reasons why uh those who choose to stay in these kind of relationships, and you know, there are bad relationships out there, Hanan.
- 11:40Lina: Yeah.
- 11:41Hanan: Whether we whether we But I also think sometimes people, so here's the thing, right?
- 11:45Hanan: Like again, as somebody who's seen this a lot, sometimes people don't don't choose to stay in this situation.
- 11:52Hanan: Sometimes they don't have enough.
- 11:53Lina: No, no, no.
- 11:53Lina: I understand.
- 11:54Lina: There's this is what I want to take it to.
- 11:55Lina: There's other factors that they're not factors, but there's there's a reason, there's an explanation as to why.
- 12:01Lina: It could be anything as simple as like financially.
- 12:06Hanan: Sometimes there isn't a reason, and there isn't a reason you can place your finger on it.
- 12:09Hanan: You know what I mean?
- 12:10Hanan: Like it's very difficult.
- 12:11Lina: So do you do you think maybe it's uh like a self-confidence issue?
- 12:14Lina: Or maybe it's time.
- 12:16Hanan: Honestly, I think some so here's the thing, right?
- 12:18Hanan: Like, I think sometimes um people stay, for example, in abusive relationships, because one, it's they don't know that they're being abused, they don't see what the outside world's like.
- 12:29Lina: I'm not talking about abusive, like I'm not talking about domestic violence.
- 12:31Lina: That's a whole different thing.
- 12:33Hanan: Yeah, but abuse isn't necessarily.
- 12:34Hanan: No, no, no.
- 12:35Hanan: There's there's there's emotional, there's all kinds of all kinds of identity.
- 12:38Hanan: There's that.
- 12:40Hanan: And then sometimes there is like sometimes you look at people, let's let's talk about it like this way.
- 12:45Hanan: Fine.
- 12:46Hanan: Sometimes I know we all have friends, we look at them, and we're like, that's a very interesting relationship dynamic, right?
- 12:50Hanan: That's what I'm interesting.
- 12:52Lina: You're being very nice to be able to do it.
- 12:53Hanan: So interesting relationship dynamic.
- 12:54Hanan: I'm gonna use the word interesting because it's not something like I'd be okay with, right?
- 12:58Hanan: Absolutely.
- 12:58Lina: Yeah, there's some things you're not gonna accept.
- 13:00Hanan: Exactly.
- 13:00Hanan: So that's fine.
- 13:03Hanan: I don't know what works for them.
- 13:05Hanan: And to be honest with you, like after trying to figure out a lot in in a good span of my life why people are okay with certain things or not okay with it, I've like stopped.
- 13:14Hanan: I think it has something to do with self-worth.
- 13:16Lina: I really do.
- 13:16Lina: I cannot, I don't think it's that simple.
- 13:18Lina: I in some instances, in some cases, not in every single case, but in some cases, it is about self-worth.
- 13:24Hanan: I don't think so.
- 13:24Hanan: I think some people, honestly, like some people who stay in weird relationships, they like they like that.
- 13:29Hanan: Like it's it's some sort, there is something about that that they enjoy.
- 13:33Hanan: Like whether it's dramatic, whether I really do think so.
- 13:35Hanan: Maybe I think some people are like that.
- 13:37Hanan: I think, yes, sometimes it has to do with like their confidence or self-worth.
- 13:40Hanan: And I sometimes I don't have a reason and I can't find a reason, and I've just stopped trying to figure it out.
- 13:46Lina: I know for me, the main point, like we can like kind of you know bring this segment to an end.
- 13:51Lina: But like my point is if you have a partner, I expect certain things from that partner.
- 13:56Lina: Okay, that partner should be actually a partner, and not everything should fall on me.
- 14:01Lina: And I'm not talking about like not everything should fall on me.
- 14:03Lina: I don't think you and I disagree on that.
- 14:04Lina: No, no, no, but uh here's the thing it's not about like doing tasks, it's not just that.
- 14:08Lina: There's they need to be there for you, but also they need to help around.
- 14:12Lina: Like they they need like, I don't know.
- 14:14Lina: I think it's pretty simple, straightforward.
- 14:16Lina: I shouldn't have to be the only one doing something.
- 14:18Hanan: But I don't think it's about even doing something.
- 14:20Hanan: Okay.
- 14:20Hanan: I completely like, I don't think it's that simple, Leo.
- 14:23Lina: It's not just tasks, it's just being there for the other person.
- 14:25Lina: Okay, like when you see, when you see your husband is having a rough week, for example, don't you go out of your way to the other thing?
- 14:31Hanan: Everybody has so it's it's not it's again again, it's just not that simple.
- 14:35Hanan: It's not about making something harder easy for someone.
- 14:37Hanan: I think I think it has a lot to do with the way that you love somebody.
- 14:42Hanan: Each one of us needs to be loved in a specific way, and that's what that's where your minimum bare minimum comes from, right?
- 14:48Hanan: Everybody's bare minimum comes from somewhere.
- 14:50Hanan: Some people's way of like, you know, there's like the five languages of love.
- 14:53Hanan: And so some people, maybe your love language is acts of service.
- 14:57Hanan: Like you like you like the fact that your husband does stuff for you.
- 15:00Hanan: Yes, he takes care of things, you don't have to worry about it.
- 15:02Hanan: But that means your husband is very emotionally intelligent, he loves you the way you need to be loved, right?
- 15:08Hanan: Okay.
- 15:08Hanan: That's what I mean.
- 15:10Hanan: People's bare minimum are people's bare minimums are different, right?
- 15:13Hanan: I guess I mean something politically correct.
- 15:16Hanan: I don't know.
- 15:17Lina: It's not about politically correct.
- 15:18Lina: No, no, no, no.
- 15:19Lina: This is about some people are just shitty, henan.
- 15:21Lina: Some people are shitty partners.
- 15:22Lina: But even shitty partners have people who love them.
- 15:26Lina: I understand, but there's some things that are non-negotiable.
- 15:29Lina: Do you not agree with that?
- 15:30Hanan: I think there are things that are non-negotiable for me.
- 15:32Hanan: I've stopped worrying about what other people's non-negotiables are.
- 15:35Lina: Okay, I guess we're not gonna agree on this.
- 15:36Hanan: No, no, no, no.
- 15:37Hanan: It's not about again, again, I think we fundamentally agree with that.
- 15:40Hanan: Maybe you're right.
- 15:41Hanan: I think there are things that we disagree on.
- 15:43Hanan: I don't have, I don't think there are.
- 15:45Hanan: Here's my thing, right?
- 15:47Hanan: I don't think I need like I have female friends that, you know, they don't put gas in their cars.
- 15:53Hanan: I don't.
- 15:54Hanan: Exactly.
- 15:54Hanan: That's why I said this.
- 15:55Hanan: There are things like I put gas in my car.
- 15:58Hanan: I don't mind doing these things for my.
- 15:59Hanan: I like to do I it gives me a sense of like understanding.
- 16:02Lina: No, but that's not I would never think just because you get your own gas that, oh my God, you're in a horrible.
- 16:05Lina: Somebody else would.
- 16:07Lina: No.
- 16:08Hanan: No, you see that, but I use that specific example.
- 16:11Hanan: It's only because you know me.
- 16:12Hanan: That's it.
- 16:13Hanan: It's only because, but for you, that's a bare minimum.
- 16:15Hanan: Like, you don't fill your gas, you don't buy your groceries.
- 16:17Hanan: Your husband does all that stuff.
- 16:18Hanan: Yeah.
- 16:18Hanan: Because he knows that's the way you need to be loved.
- 16:22Hanan: I like to do things for myself.
- 16:24Hanan: I have, as a human being, I have a hard time asking for help.
- 16:28Hanan: My husband knows that.
- 16:29Hanan: So a lot of times he's like, just tell me, I'll do it for you.
- 16:33Hanan: And then he just starts doing things, little, very little tiny things, because he knows I'm never gonna ask him to do it.
- 16:38Hanan: I've lived in this house for 20 years.
- 16:40Hanan: There's like a toothpick holder that sits by my stove.
- 16:42Hanan: That's how I light my candles on my incense and stuff.
- 16:44Hanan: I've never had to fill it once in like 21, 21 years that I've lived in it.
- 16:47Hanan: Because he takes care of it.
- 16:48Hanan: Because he takes and it's something.
- 16:49Hanan: It's something so small, but it's dumb.
- 16:51Hanan: It's you appreciate it.
- 16:52Hanan: But I appreciate it because I never have to worry about it.
- 16:55Hanan: And that's what I mean.
- 16:56Hanan: Everybody for us has something that's the bare minimum, as you said.
- 17:00Hanan: Okay.
- 17:00Hanan: It's just different what that thing is for each single one of us.
- 17:03Hanan: And so I think that whether somebody finds something acceptable or not is a very different, like our gauges are just very different as people.
- 17:12Hanan: And it's not about being politically correct or not politically correct.
- 17:14Hanan: I just think sometimes, so sometimes like I see friends and what they're going through, I would just lose my mind, right?
- 17:21Hanan: But then I'm like, okay, well, maybe they're like this because this whatever, it works for their relationship, right?
- 17:28Hanan: Sometimes it's not working, sometimes they have problems.
- 17:30Hanan: But I think it all comes down to the same thing, which is if you and your partner are not good communicators, if you're both not letting the other person know how you need to be loved, what that actually means, and just like just open to conversation, like not you have to actually listen.
- 17:47unknown: Okay.
- 17:47Hanan: I'm not sometimes I'm not the best listener.
- 17:49Hanan: I always say I am, and usually people who are like, I'm excellent listeners are not guilty.
- 17:54Hanan: Um, but I I don't know.
- 17:56Hanan: I just feel like I cannot across the board say, Oh, uh bare minimum is the same.
- 18:02Hanan: Like when that woman that we began with the conversation about, immediately when I saw that, I was like, man, that's a lot.
- 18:06Hanan: That's crazy, that's just messed up.
- 18:08Hanan: And then when I read the statement, I was like, haram.
- 18:11Hanan: Like honestly, you felt bad for her.
- 18:13Hanan: I no, I didn't, I, you know, the only reason I felt bad for her was one, the all the attention, all the attention was unnecessary.
- 18:20Hanan: Nobody knows who she is, nobody knows her husband, nobody knows their marriage.
- 18:24Hanan: And at the end of the day, she had to go out and everyone made a judgment.
- 18:26Hanan: Everyone just made their judgment, including me, you know.
- 18:29Lina: Everybody has to be.
- 18:29Lina: Yeah, but that's the I mean, even the point, because I literally put it, I'm like, I need more info.
- 18:33Lina: I wanted to give people a chance to be like, hey.
- 18:35Hanan: Yeah, at the same time.
- 18:36Hanan: So yeah, I don't know.
- 18:37Hanan: I don't know if I subscribe to the concept of like a bare minimum because everybody is different.
- 18:41Hanan: And sometimes I look at like, you know, like people that are like super type A in relationships, right?
- 18:46Hanan: And or just in life.
- 18:48Hanan: And I look at their partners, and sometimes it's like when I see two type A people that are together, I'm like, oh my God, that house must always be on fire.
- 18:57Hanan: But I'm sure they have a rhythm of some sort that I don't understand, right?
- 19:00Hanan: And then I have friends who are like their husbands are type A and they're type B, and they just don't, they don't do anything.
- 19:06Hanan: And they love living life that way.
- 19:09Hanan: Like they don't work, they don't do bells, they're just there, they're there to, you know, and it's I shouldn't say they don't do anything.
- 19:16Hanan: No, most of them like all of them actually take care of children, which is like the hardest full-time job.
- 19:21Hanan: But I don't know, like it's I I think it's like I it always makes me think this whole question of the bare minimum.
- 19:27Hanan: Now, if we're talking about people who are dating, I think there's life etiquette stuff that you just have to be aware of, right?
- 19:33Hanan: Okay, but I think being in a long-term relationship is very different than you know.
- 19:38Lina: Okay, so here's the thing.
- 19:39Lina: Fine.
- 19:40Hanan: Okay, I can't.
- 19:41Hanan: I've convinced you.
- 19:42Lina: Maybe I've convinced you.
- 19:43Lina: Okay, I don't know.
- 19:43Lina: Okay, I just I still think there's some non-negotiable, but anyway, we're gonna move on to the next one.
- 19:47Lina: Like, what is the heck is a non-negotiable?
- 19:50Lina: What's non-negotiable?
- 19:53Lina: Being respectful, communicating but that's with any person.
- 19:57Lina: Yeah, but these are non-negotiable things.
- 19:59Lina: And like helping, like be like you're helping when you're needed.
- 20:02Lina: That that's these are non-negotiable.
- 20:04Lina: But but uh anyway, let's move on because we're not they're not like I get what you're saying.
- 20:08Lina: I don't disagree with you.
- 20:09Lina: Our approaches are very different.
- 20:11Lina: I it's yeah, I guess.
- 20:12Lina: Okay, but anyway, so we can agree.
- 20:14Lina: Fine.
- 20:14Lina: We we're we're putting that, we're we're we're leaving on to another discussion, right?
- 20:19Lina: Here's my question to you.
- 20:20Lina: Do you believe that there is such a thing as a man-child?
- 20:24Lina: Do you agree with that?
- 20:25Lina: That there are some men who are don't who don't behave like men.
- 20:28Lina: I think there's- This is another person that a woman has to take care of.
- 20:31Hanan: But I think that's what men and women, not just men.
- 20:33Lina: Okay, no, but we're talking about men here.
- 20:35Hanan: Why are we gonna be a man basher, Lena?
- 20:37Lina: We're not bashing men.
- 20:38Hanan: No, we're not bashing.
- 20:39Hanan: We're talking about I I think I think it's both, I'm sorry, I think it's both men and women, and I've met both in my life.
- 20:44Hanan: Okay, fine.
- 20:45Lina: Okay, both okay, so I'm gonna ask you some questions, and you're gonna tell me if this is a true partner or a child.
- 20:50Lina: Okay.
- 20:50Lina: That you have to take up.
- 20:51Lina: We're not gonna say man child.
- 20:52Hanan: Yeah, because honestly, I'm gonna tell you guys something.
- 20:54Hanan: No, because I'm I'm very against the concept of just man-child because I've I really have met both, like men and women, that I'm just like, no, somebody you need to go back to your parents.
- 21:04Hanan: We need to like, as we say, like I daik terbi tak, like we need to start from scratch, okay, and and then you can rejoin society.
- 21:11Hanan: Okay.
- 21:12Lina: Both men and women.
- 21:13Lina: Okay, fine.
- 21:14Lina: So I'm gonna ask you some questions, okay?
- 21:16Lina: Is is this person a partner or just another person you have to take care of?
- 21:20Lina: First one, uh, your partner says, just tell me what you need to do, and then uh when you tell him you're overwhelmed, okay?
- 21:28Lina: Yeah.
- 21:28Lina: So you're the you're the person who is your partner who lives with you, you're dating, whatever, says, Hey, just tell me what you need me to do.
- 21:34Lina: Yeah.
- 21:35Lina: Do you think that's someone who's a partner or someone who is a child?
- 21:39Hanan: I think that's someone who can be a very good partner, but who is lost on the way that you guys are communicating.
- 21:44Hanan: Okay, okay, fair.
- 21:44Hanan: Honestly, I think it's like, I think the fact that they're saying, like, tell me what you need me to do, maybe the one person that's overwhelmed is not communicating properly.
- 21:52Hanan: Okay, right.
- 21:52Hanan: That's a fair point.
- 21:53Hanan: Yeah, that's a fair point.
- 21:54Hanan: And because that person at this point, it's like, okay, I just want to I want to help you.
- 21:57Hanan: I I just don't know how.
- 21:58Hanan: I don't know how.
- 21:58Hanan: Just tell me what you need, and I Got you.
- 22:00Hanan: Okay.
- 22:00Hanan: I think that that's totally fine.
- 22:02Lina: Okay.
- 22:02Lina: Cause it could you're right.
- 22:03Lina: It could be the person is not communicating.
- 22:04Lina: Exactly.
- 22:05Lina: Okay, that's fine.
- 22:06Lina: All right.
- 22:06Lina: Um, so your partner says, uh, no, so your partner remembers the kids' appointments, buys the groceries, handles household tasks without having any instructions.
- 22:14Lina: Is that a partner or a child?
- 22:16Hanan: Obviously, that's a partner.
- 22:17Hanan: Obviously, that's my parents.
- 22:18Lina: Yeah.
- 22:19Hanan: That's an adult.
- 22:20Lina: Yeah.
- 22:20Lina: Okay.
- 22:20Lina: So we agree on that.
- 22:21Lina: All right.
- 22:22Lina: So you have to remind them three times to take out the treasure to do any other task around the house.
- 22:27Lina: Okay.
- 22:27Lina: And then finally you get annoyed.
- 22:29Lina: Okay.
- 22:30Lina: And then when you get annoyed or upset, your partner is complaining that you're being annoying about it or you're being a nag.
- 22:36Lina: Is that a child or a poor person?
- 22:38Hanan: I really think it's not about child abroad.
- 22:40Hanan: That is poor communication.
- 22:41Hanan: Okay.
- 22:41Lina: Really?
- 22:41Lina: You just, you, you're just going to say it's poor communication.
- 22:43Lina: No, no, no, no.
- 22:44Hanan: I'll tell you why.
- 22:45Hanan: Because sometimes, so here's the thing.
- 22:47Hanan: And I I I I will always use myself as an example.
- 22:49Hanan: I'm somebody, when I want to do something, I want to have done right now.
- 22:52Hanan: Right.
- 22:52Hanan: Now, now.
- 22:53Hanan: Right?
- 22:53Hanan: Now.
- 22:54Hanan: That's not necessarily how the other person sees it.
- 22:57Hanan: They're like, okay, you already told me.
- 22:58Hanan: Why do you need to tell me a second time and a third time?
- 23:00Hanan: I'm gonna do it.
- 23:01Hanan: Just give me the I'm not gonna need me to do it.
- 23:04Hanan: I'm gonna do it as soon as I'm ready to do it.
- 23:06Lina: Okay, so you're saying some of these conflicts arise because of the different like you said, type A or type B.
- 23:12Hanan: All of these conflicts arrived arise because we are very different in the way we handle our business.
- 23:16Hanan: When you tell me somebody is an adult child, I'll tell you what that means.
- 23:19Hanan: I'll tell you when they take, don't take ownership or accountability for their mistakes.
- 23:22Hanan: Okay, that's a something I have a problem with.
- 23:25Hanan: That's not about communication.
- 23:26Hanan: That's when you do something, right, that harms all of us, including yourself, and you refuse to be accountable for it.
- 23:32Hanan: That's when you're somebody that we need to go back and we need to start from scratch before you can rejoin society, right?
- 23:37Hanan: That's a problem.
- 23:38Hanan: But when I'm asking you to take out the trash, you don't do it right now, I'm guilty of that.
- 23:42Hanan: It doesn't mean this person's gonna do it.
- 23:44Hanan: Like like nagging my partner.
- 23:46Hanan: I'm basically saying, okay, you know, I'm gonna do it myself.
- 23:48Hanan: As somebody who has a hard time asking for help.
- 23:51Hanan: Yes, it's not about no, that you're a nag.
- 23:55Hanan: The other person's gonna be able to do it.
- 23:56Hanan: I'm not gonna do it, by the way, FY.
- 23:57Hanan: I know you're trying to make a point.
- 23:58Hanan: No, no, no, but it's like the other person's gonna do it.
- 24:00Hanan: You just have to give them a chance.
- 24:02Hanan: You know what I mean?
- 24:03Hanan: Now, if this is something that you consistently have a problem with, that's when you have a conversation as two adults and basically say, you know how I like constantly, like I feel like I'm asking you a lot and it bothers you.
- 24:13Hanan: Okay, well, it's because I have this thing where when I want something done, I want it done right away.
- 24:18Hanan: Fully understand that you may not operate this way, but that's why I become annoying.
- 24:22Hanan: Because you have to take ownership of your feelings.
- 24:25Hanan: Okay, yeah, the other person is not, they're not, they're not a child.
- 24:30Hanan: No, the other, the unless it is your child and they just move on with other tasks.
- 24:34Lina: Okay, but you have to admit, you know, we're I'm gonna like finish this segment, but you have to admit there are some partners, and we're not gonna say men, we're not gonna single men out.
- 24:41Lina: There are some partners who shouldn't be in these relationships, who are not who are not mature enough mentally to do this stuff, to be in a relationship.
- 24:50Lina: I'm sorry.
- 24:51Lina: They're really there's some of them shouldn't be in relationships.
- 24:53Lina: I'm not judgmental.
- 24:55Hanan: You are judgmental.
- 24:56Hanan: No, I mean come on.
- 24:56Hanan: It's not for you to decide who or shouldn't who or who should not be in a relationship.
- 25:01Lina: I'm not that's not what I'm trying to say.
- 25:02Hanan: I'm saying some people That's literally what you're saying.
- 25:05Hanan: No, no, no.
- 25:06Hanan: I'm gonna need you guys literally.
- 25:08Hanan: That is what you're saying.
- 25:09Hanan: It is not for you to decide who gets to do what.
- 25:11Hanan: Some people are bad partners.
- 25:12Hanan: It's not for you to decide.
- 25:15Lina: Do you agree that some people are bad partners?
- 25:16Lina: No, I don't think it's for you to decide.
- 25:18Lina: I don't think it's for me to pay whatever.
- 25:20Lina: That's BS.
- 25:20Lina: Some people are bad partners, Henan.
- 25:22Lina: That is so okay.
- 25:23Lina: You guys tell us bad partners for who?
- 25:25Lina: For you, maybe, but you're not their partner, so it doesn't really matter.
- 25:28Lina: Not just for me.
- 25:29Lina: You look, we had the we we already decided.
- 25:31Lina: I'm so annoyed I'm like smoking.
- 25:32Lina: There are some friends of ours or family members or people we know at work.
- 25:36Lina: Okay, you know for a fact that they're in a shitty relationship.
- 25:40Hanan: That's their problem, not mine.
- 25:42Lina: Okay, fine.
- 25:42Lina: I guess we're just gonna have to disagree.
- 25:44Hanan: No, it is their problem, not mine.
- 25:45Hanan: I don't get to decide, you know, because honestly, no, I will say, like, in my life, I have been in a place where you decide whether someone I made a decision, oh, this person is not a good person.
- 25:55Hanan: You know what?
- 25:55Hanan: At the end of the day, I don't, I I have really genuinely decided I don't care because the other person that's actually in this relationship is the person that's dealing with this.
- 26:05Hanan: And if they haven't decided that their partner is a bad partner, who am I to decide that for them?
- 26:09Hanan: So basically, at the end of all of this, we've learned one very important thing.
- 26:16Lina: Okay.
- 26:16Hanan: That Lena's judgmental.
- 26:18Hanan: Whatever.
- 26:19Lina: That Lena is judgmental.
- 26:20Lina: I just know that I mean, listen, I get it.
- 26:23Lina: I get what you're saying.
- 26:24Hanan: I'm not here's the thing.
- 26:25Hanan: Like, you it's and it's fine.
- 26:27Hanan: Yeah.
- 26:27Hanan: I'm telling you, I even say I'm judgmental.
- 26:29Hanan: Just own it.
- 26:30Hanan: You don't have to be like, no, I'm not judgmental.
- 26:31Hanan: We're all judgmental and it's totally fine.
- 26:34Hanan: But truly, at the end of this, here is my what I would like to share.
- 26:37Hanan: And then I'll let you have the mic to share what you want.
- 26:40Hanan: What I'd like to share is everybody's bare minimum, as Lena says, is different.
- 26:46Hanan: No such thing exists, in my humble opinion.
- 26:50Hanan: Because what you find acceptable, I may not.
- 26:52Hanan: What I find acceptable, you may not.
- 26:55Hanan: And at the end of all of this, what makes a solid partner is having good communication, even on your worst days.
- 27:03Lina: Okay.
- 27:03Lina: No, I mean, I I don't disagree with that.
- 27:06Lina: Okay, what I'm saying is actually, I do, you see, I do disagree with one thing.
- 27:11Lina: There is something called bare minimum.
- 27:13Lina: I really do.
- 27:13Lina: And I think across the board, there are certain things no one should accept in a relationship.
- 27:18Lina: Do you not agree with that?
- 27:20Hanan: No.
- 27:20unknown: Okay.
- 27:21unknown: All right.
- 27:22Lina: I mean, you guys let us know in the comments.
- 27:23Lina: Let us know if you agree with Hanan, who thinks everything is okay as long as the person, as long as the person's okay with it.
- 27:30Hanan: I did not say that.
- 27:31Hanan: I did not say that.
- 27:32Hanan: I did not say that.
- 27:33Hanan: Clearly, after like 30 minutes, you still don't get it.
- 27:35Hanan: I get it.
- 27:36Hanan: No, I get it.
- 27:36Hanan: Literally.
- 27:38Lina: I'm not judgmental.
- 27:39Lina: You just want me to be wrong.
- 27:42Hanan: No, there is no such thing.
- 27:43Hanan: Everybody has their own.
- 27:45Hanan: Everybody has their own.
- 27:46Hanan: Okay.
- 27:46Hanan: No, I don't think that's a good thing.
- 27:47Hanan: I don't think it's a board.
- 27:49Lina: No, I think there are some things.
- 27:50Lina: No, there are things that are going to be.
- 27:51Lina: Getting beating bare minimum that I can get on my freaking nerves.
- 27:54Lina: Like what?
- 27:56Lina: Like somebody buying my groceries for me.
- 27:58Lina: No.
- 27:58Lina: Why is that?
- 27:59Lina: Why are you upset about why would that upset you?
- 28:01Hanan: Because I like to pick out my own things.
- 28:03Hanan: Okay, I do.
- 28:04Lina: See, see, that's a control thing.
- 28:05Lina: That's a personality thing.
- 28:06Lina: Exactly.
- 28:07Lina: Okay, that's fine.
- 28:08Lina: Exactly.
- 28:08Lina: But did I ever say, oh my God, why are you doing that?
- 28:10Lina: I'm not judging you because I know everybody, like I know everybody's relationship is different.
- 28:16Hanan: Again, this proves my point that everybody's bare minimum is bare minimum.
- 28:21Lina: But that that's not a bare minimum for me.
- 28:22Lina: I never, like, my husband just took that on.
- 28:24Hanan: Which is wonderful.
- 28:25Lina: Okay.
- 28:25Lina: I never really made an issue of it.
- 28:27Hanan: Like I wouldn't be upset if I did.
- 28:29Hanan: Again, because he knows that you're actually you would be very upset if you're that's not true.
- 28:33Hanan: No, no, it is so true.
- 28:35Hanan: See, this is what I this is what I don't like.
- 28:37Hanan: You sit here and you lie to the people.
- 28:39Hanan: That's not true.
- 28:39Hanan: It is so true.
- 28:40Hanan: She would be so mad if she had to buy groceries and go to the 85 different stores that he gets groceries from.
- 28:45Hanan: He's gonna be pissed if she doesn't because she is just she's gonna take the shortcut to one place, buy everything.
- 28:51Hanan: And he doesn't like that.
- 28:52Hanan: So again, I do you do you go to one place or no?
- 28:56Hanan: No.
- 28:56Hanan: Okay, see, yeah.
- 28:57Hanan: But see, like at the same time, this goes back, you prove my love.
- 28:59Hanan: Yeah, but everybody needs to be loved in their own way.
- 29:03Lina: Yeah, I mean, who was he went and he bought me some groceries?
- 29:06Lina: That's like it's not about love, it's about being a partner.
- 29:08Hanan: It's an act of service.
- 29:09Hanan: Okay, I guess that's the way you like to be loved.
- 29:11Hanan: It's acts of service.
- 29:12Hanan: You're telling me the fact that he doesn't, that he does all this stuff for you doesn't make you feel like No, I love you.
- 29:16Hanan: Exactly.
- 29:17Lina: Absolutely.
- 29:18Lina: Oh my god, Lena, it's a mental block.
- 29:20Hanan: Lena has a mental block, you guys.
- 29:22Hanan: It's crazy.
- 29:23Hanan: She wants to see her be like, I'm not judgmental, and there are bare minimums in license design.
- 29:29Lina: I think they get the point.
- 29:30Lina: No, we don't want to keep going over and over the same thing.
- 29:32Lina: You guys let us know in the comments.
- 29:33Lina: Let us know.
- 29:34Lina: I mean, are there basic bare minimums across the board for everybody?
- 29:37Lina: Or as Hanaan says, everybody's bare minimum is different.
- 29:40Lina: Absolutely.
- 29:40Lina: Okay, you let us know.
- 29:42Lina: Okay.
- 29:42Lina: All right.
- 29:43Lina: This was fun.
- 29:43Lina: I think so.
- 29:44Lina: Yeah.
- 29:44Lina: I mean, we're gonna like fight off camera now, but we're not gonna fight.
- 29:48Lina: I just think that I'm right.
- 29:52Lina: Okay, until next time.
- 29:54Hanan: Yes.
