- 0:00Speaker 1: This is Kiss Breakfast.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Yeah, we have Sandra on the line. So she's a
- 0:06Speaker 2: 23-year-old from Sydney. Her partner is still missing in the
- 0:10Speaker 2: Nepal floods.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Yeah, Sarada, so tell us, your partner was over in
- 0:14Speaker 1: Nepal when the floods hit three weeks ago. Why was
- 0:17Speaker 1: he over there?
- 0:18Speaker 3: Yeah, so it was a pilgrimage and they were travelling
- 0:21Speaker 3: up to the Nepal-Tibet border at the time when the
- 0:25Speaker 3: flood hit. So they were meant to reach Mount Kailash
- 0:27Speaker 3: today that day and then start their hike around like
- 0:30Speaker 3: the base camp yeah um when obviously they they weren't
- 0:34Speaker 3: able to reach there um but yeah so they were
- 0:36Speaker 3: traveling in a group of 10 and they were about
- 0:38Speaker 3: 15 kilometers south from the border and that's when um
- 0:42Speaker 3: that's when the flood hit but We received some official
- 0:45Speaker 3: information from the AFP a few days later stating that
- 0:49Speaker 3: one of the group members had their phone pinged the
- 0:51Speaker 3: day after. So the line of thinking that we have
- 0:55Speaker 3: is that obviously it's a big, you know, sign of
- 0:58Speaker 3: life that the phone is being the day after. So
- 1:00Speaker 3: we're thinking surely they, you know, got out of the way.
- 1:04Speaker 3: We also got the GPS data that placed them on
- 1:07Speaker 3: the highway around 855. And when we look at like
- 1:11Speaker 3: Google Earth views of that location, it Unless they were
- 1:15Speaker 3: at a very specific bend, they wouldn't have seen the
- 1:17Speaker 3: flood coming, but otherwise they would have seen it coming
- 1:20Speaker 3: and they would have had time to get out of
- 1:22Speaker 3: the car and run up the hill.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Are you getting much support or, you know, help from
- 1:26Speaker 1: the government, the Australian government?
- 1:28Speaker 2: Are they doing enough for you?
- 1:30Speaker 3: Yeah, so I think that they're doing a lot, but
- 1:32Speaker 3: we still are trying to request everything that we can.
- 1:36Speaker 3: So I am in touch with DFAT. All the family
- 1:39Speaker 3: members have been assigned an officer from DFAT which has
- 1:42Speaker 3: been helpful, but unfortunately they just don't have enough updates
- 1:45Speaker 3: in general for us. We're still seeking out more information.
- 1:49Speaker 3: So we want to know more about the search and
- 1:52Speaker 3: rescue operations that are being conducted. We want to know
- 1:55Speaker 3: exactly what areas are being conducted in and exactly by
- 1:59Speaker 3: what means, whether they're on foot or just helicopter or
- 2:03Speaker 3: drones or anything. Like we've seen the helicopter videos and
- 2:07Speaker 3: we know that from that high up you can't really
- 2:09Speaker 3: see anything because it's all shrubbery. Yep. And it's all
- 2:12Speaker 3: just a forest.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Can you tell us a little bit about your partner, Rashab?
- 2:16Speaker 1: Like do you think that if he is still out there,
- 2:19Speaker 1: does he have the means to keep himself alive? Like
- 2:22Speaker 1: are him and his family well equipped to kind of
- 2:25Speaker 1: look for food and do you think that he would
- 2:27Speaker 1: know what to do in those kind of situations? 110%.
- 2:29Speaker 3: I don't have a doubt in my mind that he
- 2:32Speaker 3: would know what to do. He's a very sensible person.
- 2:35Speaker 3: He's very logical. He's in fact too logical sometimes.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:39Speaker 3: But he's very sensible and the whole family is. And,
- 2:43Speaker 3: you know, him and his brother are both medical trained,
- 2:45Speaker 3: so they would have an idea of what to do,
- 2:47Speaker 3: especially if there were any injuries. His parents were doing
- 2:51Speaker 3: 15 kilometer hikes on every weekend leading up to the event.
- 2:55Speaker 3: So they were all fit, all well-equipped, all logical.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Okay.
- 2:59Speaker 3: So I'm thinking that, you know, they would have all
- 3:01Speaker 3: the tools, but they just need help.
- 3:03Speaker 2: And what about you? What's life like for you at
- 3:05Speaker 2: the moment? Are you just constantly checking your phone and
- 3:09Speaker 2: looking for any information? How are you getting by?
- 3:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, that's all I do all day. I mean,
- 3:14Speaker 3: I have a lot of support around me, a lot
- 3:17Speaker 3: of friends and family that come in and check on
- 3:19Speaker 3: me every day. Yeah. you know, they provide a very
- 3:22Speaker 3: good distraction for me, but they also help me a
- 3:25Speaker 3: lot if I need to call people or need to
- 3:27Speaker 3: do any searches or anything like that. So it's been, like,
- 3:31Speaker 3: I've been very well supported.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Well, we understand why you'd absolutely be holding out hope.
- 3:37Speaker 2: And Sarada, we wish you the best of luck and
- 3:40Speaker 2: everyone's hoping that he can be found, okay?
- 3:44Speaker 1: And his whole family, yeah.
- 3:45Speaker 3: Yeah, and I don't think it's right by them if
- 3:47Speaker 3: any of us actually give up. So we're just trying
- 3:49Speaker 3: anything and everything we can.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 3:52Speaker 2: We wish you the best.
- 3:53Speaker 1: All the best. Thank you so much.
