- 0:27Speaker 2: Quick.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Kicking, look excited.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Touchdown Kyle Williams touchdound amazing, unbelievable. They puttied william who's
- 0:54Speaker 2: has to full back and he scores a touchdown. It's
- 0:58Speaker 2: wealthier to face tackle.
- 1:18Speaker 1: What's good? Folks, family, friends, loved ones, enemies, friendemies, wizards,

- 1:57Speaker 1: of Disguise Coverage, we are about two weeks away from
- 2:03Speaker 1: the start of Buffalo Bills training camp, so I thought
- 2:06Speaker 1: we would start to put a bow on some things
- 2:10Speaker 1: to expect for training camp, some pieces to keep an
- 2:14Speaker 1: eye on as we move forward. In this off season.
- 2:19Speaker 1: We've talked a lot on the show about schematic changes,
- 2:23Speaker 1: personnel changes, you know, kind of projecting what the defense
- 2:28Speaker 1: is going to look like under Jim Leonard, what the
- 2:29Speaker 1: offense will look like this year, personnel group stuff, usage stuff,
- 2:33Speaker 1: all these things, and I think within a lot of
- 2:36Speaker 1: those conversations, you know, some things get lost, some things
- 2:39Speaker 1: fall through the cracks a little bit. So I wanted
- 2:41Speaker 1: to kind of put a bow in a couple of
- 2:43Speaker 1: different ways on a lot of the things we've talked
- 2:45Speaker 1: about this offseason here on this show and in that vein.
- 2:50Speaker 1: We are going to talk about some Buffalo Bills that
- 2:53Speaker 1: will see new and or different roles in twenty twenty six.
- 2:57Speaker 1: The way I'm kind of quantifying it for this episode
- 2:59Speaker 1: is it could be you know, playing their same position
- 3:03Speaker 1: but in a different way, you know, wearing different hats
- 3:06Speaker 1: or changing the ratios in terms of like the hats
- 3:10Speaker 1: that they wear, how much they wear them, when they
- 3:12Speaker 1: wear them. It could be playing, you know, a different
- 3:15Speaker 1: kind of position all together. It could be a completely
- 3:19Speaker 1: new role. It could be just an added responsibility or
- 3:22Speaker 1: a tweak and essentially have a top four one honorable
- 3:26Speaker 1: mention that we're going to get into here. But I
- 3:29Speaker 1: think some of this kind of ties into the larger
- 3:31Speaker 1: schematic conversations we've had about the offense and the defense
- 3:34Speaker 1: this offseason. And then to also give you guys a
- 3:37Speaker 1: peek going forward from here, we will do another episode
- 3:43Speaker 1: next week, and then I am going to training camp
- 3:47Speaker 1: for the twenty ninth and the thirtieth, so we'll be
- 3:52Speaker 1: hitting training camp on those days. I may do episodes
- 3:58Speaker 1: once I get back on the twenty ninth, the thirtieth,
- 4:00Speaker 1: There will definitely be a Tuesday episode on the twenty eighth.
- 4:04Speaker 1: We may get some bonus content there, and then before
- 4:05Speaker 1: we know it will be in the preseason. All this
- 4:08Speaker 1: stuff and I'm starting to dive more into similar in
- 4:11Speaker 1: the vein. Joe says, there, I should show the comments
- 4:15Speaker 1: on stages. We got to do that, Joe says, are
- 4:17Speaker 1: trying ant out in linebacker. They might in that vein
- 4:21Speaker 1: of kind of putting a bow on things, you know.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Also be we'll see what happens in the preseason. I'm confirming,
- 4:28Speaker 1: but I will likely be doing the postseason postseason preseason
- 4:33Speaker 1: postgame shows here on disguise coverage like I have in
- 4:37Speaker 1: previous years. So that'll be fun. We'll do that. But
- 4:40Speaker 1: then so then I'll probably use the Tuesday episodes to
- 4:46Speaker 1: you know, continue to dive into some of the schematic
- 4:48Speaker 1: things and the trends that we're going to see. You know,
- 4:50Speaker 1: I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, a couple of
- 4:52Speaker 1: episodes ago, we did the personnel episode talking about the
- 4:57Speaker 1: you know, thirteen personnel and twelve personnel, how Bills can
- 5:00Speaker 1: wield it, personnel group changes from previous years, league trends,
- 5:06Speaker 1: how the Bills fit into that, all of these things.
- 5:09Speaker 1: So yeah, I'm excited to see what we got forward here,
- 5:12Speaker 1: what we have going forward here, A lot of stuff
- 5:15Speaker 1: coming down the pike. There's real football to happen. But
- 5:18Speaker 1: we're gonna continue our schematic and you know, structural analysis
- 5:21Speaker 1: as we do here on the show into this episode.
- 5:24Speaker 1: As always, I see several of you are already commenting.
- 5:27Speaker 1: I'll get to those in a sec. I see them
- 5:28Speaker 1: popping up, but I haven't read them yet. Questions, thoughts, comments, concerns,
- 5:32Speaker 1: feel free to put them up into the live chat,
- 5:34Speaker 1: especially in these episodes. I know we're in the slow
- 5:36Speaker 1: time of the off season. So anything you got questions, thoughts, comments, concerns,
- 5:40Speaker 1: bills related, other team related, league related, college football related, whatever,
- 5:45Speaker 1: anything and everything. I like to make the show as
- 5:47Speaker 1: engaging as possible. You got wrestling stuff, you got other
- 5:50Speaker 1: sports stuff, World Cup stuff, anything and everything that Johnny mind.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Feel free to put it up into the chat, and
- 5:55Speaker 1: we will make this episode as engaging as possible. Appreciate
- 5:58Speaker 1: everybody for tuning in live. On this one, James says,
- 6:02Speaker 1: how many interceptions does Groot get? Hmm? Part of me one,
- 6:12Speaker 1: I feel like the over under should be said it
- 6:14Speaker 1: a half and part of me, I don't know. Part
- 6:16Speaker 1: of me feels like gut feeling. I'm gonna say two.
- 6:18Speaker 1: I'm gonna say one. I think Gregorso gets one interception
- 6:20Speaker 1: this year. I mentioned this earlier. Joe said they're trying
- 6:23Speaker 1: and out of linebacker. They might try me at linebacker.
- 6:25Speaker 1: It's wearing thin also like within that I know what's
- 6:28Speaker 1: been talked about or it's kind of low hanging fruit.
- 6:30Speaker 1: I'm not getting into it in this episode too much.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I mean I could if someone else comments on it
- 6:34Speaker 1: or wants to ask a question about it. I do
- 6:36Speaker 1: think Dorian Williams missing time is a huge, huge, huge
- 6:41Speaker 1: boost for Kayleb e Arms Or who. I'm going to
- 6:43Speaker 1: continue to call e Or cause it's just I don't
- 6:45Speaker 1: feel like saying all three names. I know that's stupid
- 6:47Speaker 1: and it's lazy of me, but I'm gonna call them or.
- 6:49Speaker 1: I forget who suggested that in an episode of the
- 6:51Speaker 1: Film Room, but I'm gonna call him e or on
- 6:53Speaker 1: the Film Room. I'm gonna call him or here. And
- 6:56Speaker 1: I know what I just said is particularly revelatory. I
- 6:58Speaker 1: know a lot of other people have said it, but
- 7:00Speaker 1: I really do think, you know, he's got a nice
- 7:03Speaker 1: inside track, especially with the questions around Dorrian. He's never
- 7:06Speaker 1: been a full time starter. I still think there's questions
- 7:08Speaker 1: for him in coverage. I think he's fine coming downhill.
- 7:11Speaker 1: I think this defense will actually help him more, especially
- 7:14Speaker 1: if they blitzmore. We're gonna talk about some stuff with
- 7:16Speaker 1: trou Bernard in this episode spoiler, but Dornyan finally getting
- 7:21Speaker 1: an opportunity to kind of put his stamp on the
- 7:25Speaker 1: line on the other linebacker position opposite of Toroel Bernard
- 7:28Speaker 1: and missing all this time, and then being in the
- 7:30Speaker 1: final year of his deal and ere coming in and
- 7:33Speaker 1: just getting all these reps with the first team and
- 7:35Speaker 1: kind of what his skill set brings. I do think
- 7:39Speaker 1: that's a huge feather in his cap in terms of
- 7:41Speaker 1: starting capability, and that I'm assuming he's gonna get a
- 7:43Speaker 1: ton of burn come preseason time. Dornian probably will and
- 7:48Speaker 1: or should too. But yeah, I inside tracked to Caleb b.
- 7:53Speaker 1: E arms Or at this point in terms of being
- 7:55Speaker 1: able to starter to or uh in terms of being
- 7:58Speaker 1: a starter opposite of Also, apologies, I changed the angle
- 8:03Speaker 1: of my computer and I notice every time I move,
- 8:05Speaker 1: and I do that a lot, I talk on my hands.
- 8:08Speaker 1: It's going in and out of focus, So apologies for that.
- 8:11Speaker 1: I'm gonna try and keep my hands down here and
- 8:12Speaker 1: not move my body too much either. What's up? RJ
- 8:15Speaker 1: RJ says, I know you are too humble to bring
- 8:18Speaker 1: this up. I wanted to let you know how awesome
- 8:20Speaker 1: it was to see you on Mina Kimes Show. If
- 8:21Speaker 1: anyone hasn't seen it yet, go watch it after this show.
- 8:24Speaker 1: I appreciate you that for that. RJ. Yeah, I was.
- 8:28Speaker 1: I had the privilege and sincere honor to be on
- 8:31Speaker 1: the Mina Chimes Show. Last week. We did an AFC
- 8:35Speaker 1: East preview, talking Bills, Patriots, Jets, Dolphins, both sides of
- 8:38Speaker 1: the ball, additions and acquisitions, some projections and thoughts and
- 8:44Speaker 1: you know, metrics and schematic analysis and pretty fun stuff.
- 8:47Speaker 1: It was. It was super cool. I'm still it's still
- 8:51Speaker 1: kind of surreal to me. It was awesome to do
- 8:53Speaker 1: that show. To see her tweeting about it and posting
- 8:57Speaker 1: about it on Blue Sky and promoing and tagging me,
- 8:59Speaker 1: and then you know, me being able to turn on
- 9:01Speaker 1: an ESPN channel and see myself on TV. It was
- 9:04Speaker 1: super cool. So I appreciate you, uh calling that out
- 9:08Speaker 1: and I'm glad you enjoyed it. R J. Thank you
- 9:10Speaker 1: very much, and also shout out to everybody. I know.
- 9:12Speaker 1: There were people who commented on the on the YouTube
- 9:14Speaker 1: page and the comments about it who were saying nice
- 9:16Speaker 1: things about me. There everybody who reached out to me
- 9:18Speaker 1: via text, d MS, the discord Twitter, Blue Sky, anything
- 9:25Speaker 1: and everything. I I appreciate everyone sincerely for checking that
- 9:29Speaker 1: episode out, giving me the flowers, shouting out Mina saying
- 9:33Speaker 1: a bunch of really kind things about me. It sincerely
- 9:37Speaker 1: means a lot. So thank you to everybody who reached
- 9:39Speaker 1: out and gave any ounce of support, whether it was
- 9:41Speaker 1: word of mouth, a comment alike, a retweet, uh, you know,
- 9:45Speaker 1: a quote, tweet post on Blue Sky, anything and everything.
- 9:48Speaker 1: I appreciate you folks for that, and thank you r
- 9:49Speaker 1: J for mentioning that here. And John Roberts says I.
- 9:53Speaker 1: He says, I see how the Bills signed to wide receiver. Yeah,
- 9:55Speaker 1: Quentin Skinner. I believe I have not looked into him yet.
- 9:58Speaker 1: I'm not no disrespect or maybe it's a reverse jinks
- 10:01Speaker 1: and Quentin Skinner ends up becoming the truth and becomes
- 10:03Speaker 1: the best receiver in the NFL. But I have not
- 10:05Speaker 1: dove into him yet. I probably won't. I'm still doing
- 10:11Speaker 1: a lot of league wide studying stuff, trends, position groups, teams,
- 10:16Speaker 1: both in terms of some application stuff for the Bills,
- 10:18Speaker 1: but just in general doing my off season work and
- 10:21Speaker 1: prepping for the season with things that I'm expecting defensively,
- 10:23Speaker 1: offensive least comatic, structurally, all that kind of stuff. I
- 10:27Speaker 1: appreciate you, Ralph. Ralph says Lenny with an exclamation boy,
- 10:30Speaker 1: he says, sow you featured on Mena Kime's great job.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Thank you very much. I appreciate it. R J says,
- 10:35Speaker 1: hopefully you're doing the post season post game shows as well.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Maybe I think that'll be more Greg and Aaron territory.
- 10:43Speaker 1: But if they asked me, I would obviously love to
- 10:45Speaker 1: do another comment here for my name is Jeff's ain't
- 10:47Speaker 1: great job on the Mina Times show. Thank you very much.
- 10:49Speaker 1: I appreciate you. I appreciate you very much. Joe. I
- 10:54Speaker 1: think this is in reference to the question earlier of
- 10:56Speaker 1: how many receptions this group get, and Joe says, my
- 10:58Speaker 1: hot take, wait, hot take. I read this as like
- 11:01Speaker 1: my hot take negative three, but your hot take is three.
- 11:03Speaker 1: That is a hot I mean they could drop me
- 11:05Speaker 1: to coverage three as possible. I don't know. My gut
- 11:08Speaker 1: still says two, but I'm gonna say one because that's hard.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Roy says zero. Andy says Caleb alarms Or has a legit,
- 11:16Speaker 1: legit chance to be the start of Week one. He
- 11:18Speaker 1: does as of right now. If I had to bet
- 11:20Speaker 1: I would pick him. But if Dornian is fine from
- 11:24Speaker 1: an injury standpoint and is able to get going during camp,
- 11:28Speaker 1: I think it'll be Dorning. Nick says training camp Darling predictions.
- 11:37Speaker 1: I think Caleb alarms Or will be one. I think
- 11:40Speaker 1: Jalen Kilgore is gonna be one. I think Jackson Hawes
- 11:46Speaker 1: is gonna be one. And I'm gonna go with those
- 11:55Speaker 1: as my top three. I think people are gonna rave
- 11:57Speaker 1: about man. Jackson Hawes has really stepped up as the
- 11:59Speaker 1: past kept or this is great, and then everybody's gonna
- 12:01Speaker 1: kind of circulate that. I think people are gonna talk
- 12:03Speaker 1: about the athleticism and caleber E arms Or. I think
- 12:06Speaker 1: that's going to continue to play and get burned. I'm
- 12:11Speaker 1: trying to think of I want to pivot and go
- 12:12Speaker 1: anyone else? No, Yeah, And then I think kill Gore, man.
- 12:17Speaker 1: You guys should have seen the move of kill Gore today,
- 12:20Speaker 1: the athleticism, the speed, the jump he made this play
- 12:23Speaker 1: this and that I think it'll Kill Gore is gonna
- 12:25Speaker 1: matter a lot, I think, or what will matter for
- 12:27Speaker 1: him a lot will be the actual preseason tape and
- 12:29Speaker 1: the games that come through. But I think his athleticism
- 12:31Speaker 1: is going to translate and people are immediately gonna start
- 12:34Speaker 1: posting and talking about like how well he moves and
- 12:36Speaker 1: how fluid he is, and the size and how athletic
- 12:39Speaker 1: he is for that size, so on and so forth,
- 12:42Speaker 1: all that kind of stuff. Ooh, spicy. Take here from
- 12:46Speaker 1: Tortured Bills Fan eighty five, he says, I Predictorrell Bernard
- 12:49Speaker 1: ends up not starting. He looked terrible last year. People
- 12:52Speaker 1: say he was injured at some point, but he even
- 12:54Speaker 1: looked terrible in Week one versus the Ravens. He did
- 12:57Speaker 1: look bad last year. But again not to give him
- 13:00Speaker 1: benefit of the doubt or make an excuse. He was
- 13:02Speaker 1: hurt before you even say like he looked terrible in
- 13:04Speaker 1: Week one. He was hurt already going into that year,
- 13:07Speaker 1: going into that week. I'm going to talk about it,
- 13:09Speaker 1: and when I get to him again, he's someone I'm
- 13:11Speaker 1: going to talk about in this episode. Spoiler. But he
- 13:14Speaker 1: had a busted wheel from training camp time, if I
- 13:18Speaker 1: remember correctly, and you could see right from the first
- 13:20Speaker 1: game against Baltimore he was just laboring through it. I
- 13:23Speaker 1: talked about it a bunch during the season last year.
- 13:25Speaker 1: You could tell he wasn't right. It was affecting him
- 13:28Speaker 1: being able to get to his spots and his timing.
- 13:30Speaker 1: And as a smaller guy who needs to beat guys
- 13:32Speaker 1: to spots, if he can't beat offensive lineman to a spot,
- 13:37Speaker 1: he's in trouble, and offensive linemen were getting their hands
- 13:39Speaker 1: on him and putting him in the dirt. To his credit,
- 13:41Speaker 1: I think he tried to battle through it and play
- 13:43Speaker 1: through the injury. Unfortunately, it didn't do him any favors,
- 13:46Speaker 1: and he tried to play through the injury and just
- 13:48Speaker 1: look bad. And I also think the coaching staff should
- 13:50Speaker 1: have kind of stepped in earlier and shut him down
- 13:54Speaker 1: so he could heal similar kind of granted so it's
- 13:58Speaker 1: more of a one game, but he had an injur
- 14:00Speaker 1: that played off earlier. Similar to conversation around Spencer Brown,
- 14:03Speaker 1: I think we can all remember that Texans game on
- 14:05Speaker 1: that Thursday night where he's basically playing with one arm,
- 14:07Speaker 1: like he can't use his outside arm, his right arm,
- 14:09Speaker 1: he can't use it or his shoulder at all. He's
- 14:11Speaker 1: essentially like keeping it tight to his body. He can't extend,
- 14:15Speaker 1: and Will Anderson is just attacking him and attacking him
- 14:18Speaker 1: and attacking him and they're just like leaving Brown in
- 14:20Speaker 1: there to try and play him with his inside arm only.
- 14:25Speaker 1: So I was surprised the coaches deaf didn't shut Bernard down,
- 14:27Speaker 1: similar to how I was surprised that they let Brown
- 14:29Speaker 1: continue to go out there and also only do five
- 14:31Speaker 1: man protection stuff for the most part against the Texans.
- 14:33Speaker 1: But to each their own, James says Odds on who
- 14:37Speaker 1: gets into the first fight at training camp with Chauncey
- 14:40Speaker 1: Gardner Johnson. He says, Hawes and Anderson. I could see
- 14:44Speaker 1: it being Hawes. That would be sweet. I would watch
- 14:47Speaker 1: a Hawes and Chauncey Gardner fight. I think that would
- 14:50Speaker 1: be sweet. Yeah, and he says what happened to Dorian
- 14:56Speaker 1: from the Broncos game. I haven't heard anything. I forget
- 14:58Speaker 1: what injury it is, but he has been banged up
- 15:01Speaker 1: with something to the point that he has not really
- 15:03Speaker 1: participated in any off season activity of any kind. Ah, Joe,
- 15:08Speaker 1: there you go, clutch Joe. Joe says, I saw it
- 15:09Speaker 1: was a next issue, but he was also on crutches.
- 15:11Speaker 1: So my guests has head he had an off season
- 15:13Speaker 1: surgery on something lingering. Yeah, it could be. Yeah. I
- 15:17Speaker 1: kept seeing the reports and kind of like glossed over it.
- 15:20Speaker 1: I do think it's notable that he essentially hasn't done
- 15:22Speaker 1: anything like this offseason from a team perspective, voluntary stuff,
- 15:27Speaker 1: mandatory stuff, he hasn't done much. So we'll see come
- 15:30Speaker 1: training camp time if he's good to go, if he's not,
- 15:36Speaker 1: you know e, or is gonna be rolling with the
- 15:38Speaker 1: ones with Bernard. If Donian is good to go, then
- 15:42Speaker 1: you can get one of two things like do they
- 15:45Speaker 1: put him in with the ones or do they put
- 15:47Speaker 1: him with the twos to ease him back in? Or
- 15:50Speaker 1: is he with the twos because he's with the twos.
- 15:54Speaker 1: So storylines abound potentially for that. This comment too, saying
- 16:02Speaker 1: I like me to comes, but I only went out
- 16:03Speaker 1: of my way to watch that episode and had to
- 16:07Speaker 1: drop everything to see Anna Hunter show. I appreciate that.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Thank you very much. I hope you enjoyed it. Thank
- 16:12Speaker 1: you for the sport and the kind of words here.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Thank you very much. I appreciate it. Oh, John Robert says,
- 16:16Speaker 1: The Internet says Quentin Skinner. The new receiver the bill
- 16:18Speaker 1: signed is tall, sixty five, one hundred and ninety five
- 16:20Speaker 1: pounds runs of four four five forty I'll take it
- 16:22Speaker 1: tall and fast, not bad. Joe doubling down or circling
- 16:26Speaker 1: back on his three interceptions for group prediction, my logic
- 16:29Speaker 1: is tip balls lead to opportunities when they dropped a group,
- 16:32Speaker 1: which I think will happen a decent amount. Also getting
- 16:35Speaker 1: those picks off of dialed up pressure from a student
- 16:40Speaker 1: Jim Leonard, that's funny, that's fair. I can see him
- 16:44Speaker 1: dropping into coverage for some sims and some creeper stuff.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Just the odds of the ball falling to him or
- 16:50Speaker 1: being tipped to him is hard to predict. But I
- 16:51Speaker 1: don't think three is crazy. Oh Brian says mcgovernor left
- 16:56Speaker 1: guard SVPG and cushion Bury battle for center. Spicy Spicy
- 17:00Speaker 1: James says, does Kilgour have more sacks or interceptions interceptions?
- 17:10Speaker 1: Argie said, I don't understand why some of these injured
- 17:12Speaker 1: guys didn't get pulled sooner in the seasons games. I agree,
- 17:15Speaker 1: I agree, I don't. The Spencer Brown one was the
- 17:18Speaker 1: big one. The Texans were all over the Bills offense.
- 17:21Speaker 1: It was a short week and you could see that
- 17:24Speaker 1: he just couldn't use his arm. And if you can't
- 17:28Speaker 1: use your one of your arms as an offensive lineman.
- 17:31Speaker 1: That's a problem in general no matter who you're facing,
- 17:33Speaker 1: let alone if you're facing, like arguably you know, the
- 17:37Speaker 1: best edge in football, if not for the fact that
- 17:40Speaker 1: Miles Garrett exists, and you're like also facing the best
- 17:42Speaker 1: edged tandem in football and the best defense in football.
- 17:44Speaker 1: I know Seattle did last year, but Houston defense is crazy. Yeah,
- 17:49Speaker 1: man it Yeah, I don't know. I don't know. I
- 17:52Speaker 1: don't know. I don't know. Royce and mcgovernor just signed
- 17:54Speaker 1: an extension. He's one hundred percent the center going forward.
- 17:56Speaker 1: That's fair. My name is Jeff says, Does Buffalo Joe
- 17:59Speaker 1: make this team? Yes, I think so, just purely out
- 18:01Speaker 1: of no disrespect, out of like autrition and default, like
- 18:04Speaker 1: they they don't have any packers. Not to be rude,
- 18:09Speaker 1: Kent says, Bernard had his most splash plays his first
- 18:11Speaker 1: two seasons since then decline. I don't know if the
- 18:13Speaker 1: new system will benefit him either. It will, and I'm
- 18:16Speaker 1: going to talk about that shortly as I finished getting
- 18:18Speaker 1: through comment's here, Jo says, Bernard played in a similar
- 18:21Speaker 1: system at Baylor, so I think it may actually be
- 18:23Speaker 1: better for him at this point in his career. Fair
- 18:25Speaker 1: Drucus says, sorry, my comment was kind of rough to
- 18:27Speaker 1: read outloud. No, it was fine. I may have stumbled
- 18:29Speaker 1: over in a bit. I think it was more just
- 18:31Speaker 1: stream of consciousness, but it was good. You're fine. Oh,
- 18:34Speaker 1: nice reference here for Connor mcgoverness, pizza cooking, James's time
- 18:37Speaker 1: for that new brick oven for mcgoverny. Yeah, he got paid.
- 18:39Speaker 1: He can have a million brick ovens if he wants.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Kent says, I think Bernard needs a two true two
- 18:44Speaker 1: gap nos to help him. I think that would help him,
- 18:48Speaker 1: and I'm going to talk about that when we get
- 18:49Speaker 1: to him. Drucus says, uh am, I correct, and remembering
- 18:53Speaker 1: that people were extremely high on Dorian Strong before he
- 18:57Speaker 1: got hurt, similar to Benford being good as a rookie.
- 19:00Speaker 1: People were high on Dorian Strong before he got hurt.
- 19:04Speaker 1: I was not one of them. I think he was fine.
- 19:09Speaker 1: I think he got overplayed a little bit. People were
- 19:11Speaker 1: kind of talking about Dorian Strong like he was kind
- 19:15Speaker 1: of I think you're Benford shout is spot on. I
- 19:18Speaker 1: think people were treating Dorian like he was another late
- 19:21Speaker 1: round corner gem ready to be a plug and play
- 19:25Speaker 1: starter from the jump and was great I thought he
- 19:29Speaker 1: had for a guy who played at Virginia Tech and
- 19:31Speaker 1: was physical and you know, they played good sound, fundamental
- 19:34Speaker 1: football Virginia Tech traditionally you know Beamer's gone and everything
- 19:37Speaker 1: like that. Even going back to the scrimmage, I thought
- 19:41Speaker 1: he had issues in his run fits. You know, his angles,
- 19:45Speaker 1: especially on like you know, push cracks and him trying
- 19:47Speaker 1: to fit from the outside running backs were getting outside
- 19:50Speaker 1: of him coverage. I thought he had limitations because of
- 19:52Speaker 1: the lack of athleticism and recovery speed and things. But
- 19:57Speaker 1: I think he was fine as a rookie, Like I
- 19:59Speaker 1: would have love to have him in there down the
- 20:02Speaker 1: stretch as depth or competition or just to in general
- 20:05Speaker 1: see what he would have done throughout the year had
- 20:08Speaker 1: he gotten more reps, had he continued to practice. So
- 20:12Speaker 1: I think Dorian Strong was. He was an encouraging player.
- 20:16Speaker 1: I don't think he was this solidified, penciled in CB two,
- 20:20Speaker 1: you know CB two, CB one corner in the making
- 20:24Speaker 1: that some people made him out to be. It was
- 20:27Speaker 1: again not to not to drill down on him too much,
- 20:30Speaker 1: but I he was definitely one of those guys when
- 20:32Speaker 1: when he did something good, everybody and their mother called
- 20:35Speaker 1: it out and shouted it out, but if he did
- 20:37Speaker 1: something that was bad or got beat, it was crickets
- 20:40Speaker 1: and nobody acknowledged it. And I was kind of like, Oh,
- 20:41Speaker 1: that's weird. Why are we Why are we doing this
- 20:44Speaker 1: with this guy? But yeah, coming here from from and
- 20:49Speaker 1: who says Josh that day versus the Texas, Yeah, he
- 20:52Speaker 1: got worked. That's I just the Texans in Seattle. Both
- 20:58Speaker 1: those defenses are super cool when you topos them with
- 21:00Speaker 1: one another because they play very differently. Seattle. I mean,
- 21:03Speaker 1: both of them have great players, both of them have
- 21:05Speaker 1: lots of raptors everywhere on defense, but Seattle does a
- 21:08Speaker 1: lot more schematically and not to downplay with the Texans do,
- 21:11Speaker 1: but the Texans are very much just like, we're gonna
- 21:15Speaker 1: do these four things and we've got amazing players, good
- 21:18Speaker 1: luck trying to beat it, and most offenses, if not
- 21:21Speaker 1: all offenses can't. But what I respect about both of
- 21:24Speaker 1: them in tandem with one another is the Seahawks and
- 21:27Speaker 1: the Texans both play defense like like they are personally
- 21:31Speaker 1: offended that the offense is even on the field, Like
- 21:34Speaker 1: they're like, how dare you even take the field, Like
- 21:38Speaker 1: you're gonna try and gain yards. You think you can
- 21:40Speaker 1: gain yards, You're gonna try and score on us. You
- 21:42Speaker 1: think you could score on us, and they just try
- 21:44Speaker 1: to beat the hell out of you, and not even try,
- 21:46Speaker 1: they do beat the hell out of you. Yeah, man,
- 21:48Speaker 1: that it was a rough day for the Bills, awesome
- 21:50Speaker 1: day for the Texans. I will remember Kamari Lassiter blowing
- 21:54Speaker 1: up James Cook and blowing up Reggie Gilliam. I mean,
- 21:56Speaker 1: Kamari Laster is also one of my favorite players in
- 21:58Speaker 1: the league. He's just awesome. But yeah, that was a
- 22:00Speaker 1: fool rough day. Joe says, Strong was doing fine as
- 22:03Speaker 1: a rookie. Probably would have defended Bonnicks. Yeah, maybe Dane
- 22:07Speaker 1: gets beat on that double move from Mims. We'll see,
- 22:10Speaker 1: We'll see, we'll see. Uh r J says, I remember
- 22:13Speaker 1: watching the Texans game and thinking, is Dean throwing this game?
- 22:15Speaker 1: He is stopping midplay. Turns out he was concussomed. They
- 22:18Speaker 1: should have pulled him. We're lucky he didn't get worse. Oh,
- 22:19Speaker 1: I didn't know that Dean Donkins was concussomed in the
- 22:21Speaker 1: game against the Texans. I did not know that fun
- 22:25Speaker 1: fact for me that I learned just now. Rgi also
- 22:28Speaker 1: says Dorian Strong will be the best c before in
- 22:30Speaker 1: the NFL. I don't know if you'd be the best.
- 22:31Speaker 1: I don't know, but yeah, I would take Dorian Strong
- 22:34Speaker 1: as by Ce before that. I would. I would welcome that. Yes,
- 22:36Speaker 1: Nick's comment here, McDonald is a sniper with that blitz man.
- 22:39Speaker 1: He knows how to bring pressure from the slot. He
- 22:41Speaker 1: knows how to bring those will those will pressures. He
- 22:44Speaker 1: knows how to attack the b gap. Beautiful. Jason says,
- 22:48Speaker 1: what are the chances the Bills pick up her trade
- 22:49Speaker 1: for a true nose tackle. My heart can't take this
- 22:52Speaker 1: conversation anymore, so I'm gonna say zero at this point
- 22:55Speaker 1: and try and reverse jinx it into existence. I still
- 22:58Speaker 1: think they need one. I personally would like one. I
- 23:02Speaker 1: don't think they're going to. I think they are content
- 23:05Speaker 1: going in with Dion Wall, some rotation of Dion Walker,
- 23:08Speaker 1: Dwayne Carter and Faderian Mathis and or Zion log at
- 23:13Speaker 1: Nos and godspeed to them and may God have mercy
- 23:18Speaker 1: on their soul. Good times. First person, I want to
- 23:24Speaker 1: talk about here on this episode? Oh did I put
- 23:27Speaker 1: it back? Ont of folks on back? First player, I
- 23:29Speaker 1: want to talk about in terms of Buffalo Bills. Who
- 23:31Speaker 1: will see new and or different roles in twenty twenty
- 23:33Speaker 1: six is Terrel Bernard, who we've already talked about a
- 23:37Speaker 1: little bit here. Oh, I gotta stop moving. So in
- 23:41Speaker 1: this Jim Leonard defense, We've talked about it a little
- 23:43Speaker 1: bit this offseason. I've talked about this topic a little bit,
- 23:46Speaker 1: but I wanted to bring some numbers here and back
- 23:48Speaker 1: it up with some stuff and some metrics in Jim
- 23:51Speaker 1: Leonard's defense, and Bernard has talked about this a little
- 23:53Speaker 1: bit already in speaking to the media during either mandatory
- 23:58Speaker 1: camp or voluntary stuff. This defense with Jim Leonard, you
- 24:02Speaker 1: are going to get more movement up front, and so
- 24:06Speaker 1: for Terre Bernard, that means more rum blitzes, more pass blitzes,
- 24:10Speaker 1: or run stunts or gap exchanges. You're also going to
- 24:13Speaker 1: get more man coverage. You're also gonna get more match coverage.
- 24:15Speaker 1: I think all of those play to Torol Bernard. I
- 24:18Speaker 1: don't think he's the best athlete, despite what his rast
- 24:20Speaker 1: score may say, but he's smart. He studies a lot
- 24:25Speaker 1: of tape, He understands tendencies and situational stuff. I trust
- 24:29Speaker 1: him to play the match coverage stuff, the man coverage stuff.
- 24:32Speaker 1: I think you can man up on some running backs
- 24:34Speaker 1: and some tight ends. I think from a coverage standpoint,
- 24:36Speaker 1: it'll be fine. I'm more excited for the movement aspect
- 24:41Speaker 1: and the come forward aspect of Terro Bernard's game. I've
- 24:45Speaker 1: talked about it several times. We are going to see
- 24:49Speaker 1: more simulated pressures and more creeper pressures from Jim Leonard
- 24:52Speaker 1: with the Buffalo Bills. For those who don't know what
- 24:55Speaker 1: those are, they're very similar to one another. A simulated
- 24:59Speaker 1: pressure is you show blitz right, but you only rush four,
- 25:05Speaker 1: but you drop a traditional rusher into coverage and you
- 25:10Speaker 1: bring a non traditional rusher to replace him. So the
- 25:12Speaker 1: easiest way to think of this, I'm gonna use previous
- 25:14Speaker 1: bills as an example. Say the Bills are showing five
- 25:18Speaker 1: or six guys on the line of scrimmage. They got
- 25:20Speaker 1: both linebackers in the A gaps, and instead of rushing
- 25:25Speaker 1: you know, their four down defensive linemen, instead of rushing
- 25:28Speaker 1: Groot at Oliver Dion Walker and Joey Bosa, they drop
- 25:34Speaker 1: Groot into coverage and they bring Matt Malano instead. That's
- 25:37Speaker 1: a simulated pressure. You are simulating that pressure. Look, so
- 25:40Speaker 1: you're still bringing four, right, but you are dropping a
- 25:44Speaker 1: traditional rusher into coverage in this case of defensive end,
- 25:46Speaker 1: and you are bringing a non traditional rusher on the
- 25:49Speaker 1: rush in this case a linebacker, could be a safety,
- 25:51Speaker 1: could be a defensive tackle dropping into coverage anything. What's
- 25:55Speaker 1: also good about those two is you can use them
- 25:57Speaker 1: to kind of dictate detections and matchups. You can make
- 26:01Speaker 1: an offense think the hey, pressure's coming, you know, and
- 26:04Speaker 1: the offense has let me keep in a tight end
- 26:06Speaker 1: to chip, let me keep a running back in because
- 26:08Speaker 1: here comes the blitz. And when you don't bring the blitz,
- 26:10Speaker 1: you still only bring four. Now they've wasted a potential
- 26:13Speaker 1: member who can get out into the route distribution. So
- 26:15Speaker 1: you've changed the math a little bit. And if you
- 26:17Speaker 1: know the protection rules and schemes of the offense, you
- 26:19Speaker 1: can kind of game up their protections. You might get
- 26:21Speaker 1: a free runner. Of course, the trade off is you
- 26:24Speaker 1: you know, if it gets picked up, or even if
- 26:26Speaker 1: it doesn't, you're still dropping a non traditional coverage player
- 26:29Speaker 1: into coverage, whether it's a defensive end or a defensive tackle.
- 26:32Speaker 1: So that's a simulated pressure creeper pressure is the exact
- 26:35Speaker 1: same thing, except you're not showing pressure pre snap. So
- 26:40Speaker 1: again old Bills defense, you've got your four down defensive
- 26:43Speaker 1: linemen Bernard and Milana were both lined up off ball
- 26:46Speaker 1: and then on the snap, Rousseau drops into coverage and
- 26:49Speaker 1: Milano blitzes from the second level from his off ball spot.
- 26:52Speaker 1: So sim and a creeper same thing. Still bring in
- 26:55Speaker 1: four dropping a traditional rusher bringing a non traditional but
- 27:01Speaker 1: simulated pressure shows the blitz pre snap. Again, you're simulating
- 27:05Speaker 1: a pressure, You're making it seem like a pressure's coming,
- 27:07Speaker 1: and then a creeper pressure. You're not showing that, so
- 27:09Speaker 1: it's more sneaky. You're hiding it. You're kind of creeping
- 27:12Speaker 1: with it a little bit. You're gonna get that more
- 27:14Speaker 1: with Jim Leonard, more of that kind of stuff. Sean
- 27:16Speaker 1: McDermott started to use these. He used them a bunch
- 27:20Speaker 1: in twenty twenty three, which I'm gonna talk about here
- 27:22Speaker 1: in a second. I love Simson creepers act. I think
- 27:25Speaker 1: there they should be a staple of every single defense
- 27:27Speaker 1: in today's NFL. Anything and everything. To change pictures for
- 27:31Speaker 1: a quarterback, change pictures for an offense, disguise or hide
- 27:35Speaker 1: what you are doing. Whether it's coverages, whether it's front structures.
- 27:40Speaker 1: It all speaks to trying to do what you can
- 27:43Speaker 1: to change the picture pre to post snap on a quarterback.
- 27:45Speaker 1: So I'm a huge fan of Simson Creepers. I have
- 27:47Speaker 1: been literally for like four or five, six, seven years.
- 27:49Speaker 1: I don't even remember. I like thisuses gonna sounds too,
- 27:52Speaker 1: but I don't remember a time where I wasn't a
- 27:54Speaker 1: fan of Simson Creepers. So it feels like a very
- 27:57Speaker 1: long time. But you're gonna get more of that kind
- 27:59Speaker 1: of stuff with Jim Leonard, and you're also just gonna
- 28:01Speaker 1: get more movement in general again, run blitzes, past blitzes.
- 28:04Speaker 1: You know, traditional blitz is five or more rushers. You're
- 28:06Speaker 1: gonna get run stuntch You're gonna get gap exchanges, all
- 28:09Speaker 1: of that. And that helps Terrell Bernard because more movement
- 28:16Speaker 1: in general, especially by design, helps keep him clean no
- 28:19Speaker 1: matter what type of movement it is. And I think
- 28:22Speaker 1: that working in tannem with Jim Leonards defense, where I
- 28:26Speaker 1: think he's gonna have to do a lot of winning
- 28:27Speaker 1: with movement and creating chaos this year based on the
- 28:31Speaker 1: body types and the archetypes they have on the defense.
- 28:34Speaker 1: I think that bodes well for Torel Bernard because it
- 28:38Speaker 1: leans into his skill set by having him be more
- 28:41Speaker 1: of a movement guy instead of being a static, kind
- 28:43Speaker 1: of read and react type of player at the second level.
- 28:46Speaker 1: As I talked about it earlier with whoever commented about
- 28:48Speaker 1: him being injured last year, you know, if he was injured,
- 28:51Speaker 1: he looked terrible. Torell Bernard needs to beat. He needs
- 28:55Speaker 1: to win by beating guys to the spots coming forward.
- 28:59Speaker 1: If he's sitting and reading, if he's static and not moving,
- 29:03Speaker 1: that gives offensive lineman too much of a chance to
- 29:05Speaker 1: climb to him and bury him. He is not built
- 29:07Speaker 1: to take on offensive lineman really at all, let alone
- 29:11Speaker 1: frequently and or regularly. So if offensive linemen are able
- 29:14Speaker 1: to get their hands on him, he's done, which again
- 29:17Speaker 1: is why that leg injury or ankle injury, whatever it
- 29:20Speaker 1: was last year was such a blow to him. In general,
- 29:24Speaker 1: as a football player, you want to be healthy in
- 29:26Speaker 1: your lower body, really everywhere, but especially in your lower body,
- 29:29Speaker 1: but especially for a guy like Bernard who is an
- 29:32Speaker 1: undersized player at his position, especially in today's NFL where
- 29:36Speaker 1: linebackers are starting to get bigger. You're starting to see
- 29:38Speaker 1: more you know, a Lua Khan's and Devin Lloyd's and
- 29:42Speaker 1: Sonny styles. You're starting to see the positional archetype change
- 29:46Speaker 1: a little bit. So Bernard playing it like I don't know,
- 29:51Speaker 1: he's listed at like two twenty three, twenty five whatever
- 29:53Speaker 1: he is. He's undersized for a linebacker in general, but
- 29:59Speaker 1: especially in today's NF where body types of change, the
- 30:01Speaker 1: run matters more so. Anything that gets Bernard on the
- 30:05Speaker 1: move helps him because it prevents guys from being able
- 30:07Speaker 1: to get a bead on where he is, climbing to
- 30:10Speaker 1: him and bearing him, putting in the ground, putting him
- 30:12Speaker 1: in the ground. And last year having that you know,
- 30:14Speaker 1: lower body injury that impacted it because if you've got
- 30:17Speaker 1: a busted wheel, guess what you can't move. And we've
- 30:20Speaker 1: talked about it. If Treel Bernard can't move, he's kind
- 30:22Speaker 1: of a sitting duck and dead in the water. So
- 30:25Speaker 1: I think Jim Leonard's movement based defense. We're gonna see
- 30:28Speaker 1: run stunts, We're gonna see gap exchanges, all that type
- 30:30Speaker 1: of stuff, sims, creepers, pass blitz is. We're gonna attack
- 30:35Speaker 1: formations we're gonna blitz the formation. We're gonna get some
- 30:37Speaker 1: of that Rex Ryan stuff. We're going to attack the
- 30:39Speaker 1: tight ends, the running backs. You know, different rules and
- 30:41Speaker 1: matchup principles or the game plan I should say matchup
- 30:45Speaker 1: principles for an offense. You're gonna see that with Jim
- 30:48Speaker 1: Leonard a bunch. Also, again, I know I'm talking about
- 30:51Speaker 1: a lot of movement based defense stuff. You're still gonna
- 30:55Speaker 1: see a gap in a half or two gaping principles
- 30:58Speaker 1: at times from Jim Leonard's guys up front on the
- 31:01Speaker 1: defensive line. You are still going to see read and
- 31:05Speaker 1: react stuff up front instead of attack react. I don't
- 31:10Speaker 1: know how much, because I don't think they have the
- 31:13Speaker 1: body types to just mitigate displacement and play read and react.
- 31:17Speaker 1: I think they do have to be more attack react,
- 31:20Speaker 1: penetrating movement based than they are. You know, let's anchor
- 31:24Speaker 1: and hold strong at the point of attack type of deal.
- 31:27Speaker 1: But in going back even to the tape at Wisconsin,
- 31:30Speaker 1: you go back looking at the stuff at Denver. You know,
- 31:32Speaker 1: I keep seeing that. And I've talked about this before.
- 31:34Speaker 1: I'm not gonna get into it too much, but I've
- 31:36Speaker 1: seen the conversation of oh, you know, like Jim Leonard
- 31:40Speaker 1: doesn't use a traditional nose, like he doesn't need Vince
- 31:43Speaker 1: will Fork or Vidavey or whatever it is. Like he
- 31:45Speaker 1: had Keanu Benton at Wisconsin, he had DJ Jones in Denver.
- 31:49Speaker 1: Keanu Benton did a whole bunch of playing gap and
- 31:52Speaker 1: a half at Wisconsin. He did a whole bunch of
- 31:56Speaker 1: react attack type stuff where he's you know, he's not
- 31:59Speaker 1: looking at penetrate on the snap. He's matching screws of
- 32:02Speaker 1: his helmet with the screws of the helmet of the
- 32:04Speaker 1: guard or a center, and he's matching. He's getting he's
- 32:08Speaker 1: got hit, you know, three quarters of his body in
- 32:09Speaker 1: this gap here, and then he's shedding and falling back
- 32:11Speaker 1: into a secondary gap right like he's playing gap in
- 32:14Speaker 1: a half. He is two gapping. He is the easiest
- 32:16Speaker 1: way I always put it. You know, he's playing react attack.
- 32:20Speaker 1: You're seeing that similar with DJ Jones, and people talk
- 32:23Speaker 1: about all like DJ Jones isn't a big guy in Denver,
- 32:26Speaker 1: and Leonard talked about him playing like more of like
- 32:28Speaker 1: a shade instead of a true nose. DJ Jones is small,
- 32:31Speaker 1: but he's a really good run defender like DJ Jones
- 32:34Speaker 1: doesn't get blown off the ball, and again he would
- 32:36Speaker 1: play some react and attack type stuff. So for as
- 32:40Speaker 1: much of the conversation I think people got caught up
- 32:42Speaker 1: in like I think people got caught up in thinking
- 32:46Speaker 1: to have a nose tackle who stays strong at the
- 32:48Speaker 1: point of attack, it needs to be like a three
- 32:50Speaker 1: hundred and thirty pound type of dude. That is not true.
- 32:54Speaker 1: It can It could be Bill's legend poona Ford, it
- 32:57Speaker 1: could be DJ Jones, it could be smaller based defensive tackles.
- 33:01Speaker 1: It is not about size. It is about play style
- 33:04Speaker 1: and skill set. Similarly to how dion Walker is a
- 33:08Speaker 1: literal mountain of a man, he doesn't play a mountain
- 33:12Speaker 1: of a man type game. He plays an agile, no
- 33:15Speaker 1: disrespect finesse type of game where it's about movement and
- 33:18Speaker 1: penetration and alignment versatility. Dion Walker is huge, he does
- 33:23Speaker 1: not play like a huge dude. Deon Walker does not
- 33:25Speaker 1: play like a guy where he says, good luck trying
- 33:28Speaker 1: to move me. I'm gonna hold point, I'm gonna hold
- 33:30Speaker 1: strong at the point of attack, and I'm not budget.
- 33:32Speaker 1: That's not the type of game dion Walker plays. Deon
- 33:34Speaker 1: Walker's trying to penetrate and move and it's funny seeing
- 33:37Speaker 1: the comments for that, like you literally have the exact
- 33:39Speaker 1: opposite in front of you, Like Dion Walker is huge.
- 33:43Speaker 1: He plays a finesse game, which means the opposite can
- 33:45Speaker 1: also be true. You can have a small guy and
- 33:47Speaker 1: they can play a beat him up, kick your ass
- 33:49Speaker 1: type of game. I do think the Bills still need
- 33:56Speaker 1: a true nose to be in rotation with Dean Walker. Again,
- 33:59Speaker 1: that mean a three hundred and thirty pounder. It just
- 34:01Speaker 1: means Roy Lopez, Kiris Tonga. It means that role. It
- 34:04Speaker 1: means that skill set, someone who mitigates displacement will hold
- 34:08Speaker 1: strong at the point of attack. I think that that's
- 34:13Speaker 1: needed in and of itself. I also think for guys
- 34:15Speaker 1: like Terrell Bernard go into that comment earlier, having somebody
- 34:18Speaker 1: who can eat some bodies and mitigate displacement and help
- 34:22Speaker 1: keep Terrell Bernard clean and Dorian Williams clean or Caleb
- 34:26Speaker 1: Larms or whoever the hell it is, I think that's
- 34:29Speaker 1: part of it too. It is interesting to just be,
- 34:32Speaker 1: you know, a smaller type of front and have smaller
- 34:37Speaker 1: type of linebackers and then not have an overwhelming amount
- 34:40Speaker 1: of like speed or athleticism, and it's just kind of
- 34:42Speaker 1: like you're smaller and slower, Like it's just that's not
- 34:46Speaker 1: a good combination. And as Ken says, yeah, I think Ken,
- 34:50Speaker 1: you nailed it here. Like I don't care about the
- 34:51Speaker 1: size of the player. I just don't think we have
- 34:53Speaker 1: a legiti nose card. I agree, And I don't think playing,
- 34:58Speaker 1: you know, a hold strong at the point of it
- 35:00Speaker 1: anchor type of play style is best suited for Dion Walker. Jpacosta,
- 35:04Speaker 1: friend of the Show. I always use his line in
- 35:07Speaker 1: reference to Dion Walker. He calls Deon Walker the iron
- 35:10Speaker 1: Giant because he just does not have that lower body bend.
- 35:13Speaker 1: He's a huge dude with long legs. It's hard to
- 35:16Speaker 1: be that to be built like that and bend and
- 35:20Speaker 1: do the things to reduce surface area and all that
- 35:23Speaker 1: kind of stuff that's required and play with leverage when
- 35:26Speaker 1: you're that tall and offensive linement are shorter than you,
- 35:29Speaker 1: so there's a lot of things to work against him.
- 35:32Speaker 1: I don't think he's necessarily guy who's getting blown off
- 35:34Speaker 1: the ball a ton, but I do think he gets
- 35:36Speaker 1: moved more than people talk about. And I would love
- 35:39Speaker 1: to have you know a guy like him who can
- 35:43Speaker 1: play movement and do all this fun stuff in a
- 35:45Speaker 1: line along anywhere on the front. I'd love to pair
- 35:48Speaker 1: him with a traditional nose tackle and have a good rotation.
- 35:51Speaker 1: I want to play rock paper scissors, and I want
- 35:53Speaker 1: to be able to throw rock paper and scissors. I
- 35:56Speaker 1: don't want to only throw two out of three or
- 35:57Speaker 1: one out of three. But yeah, I think that's a
- 36:01Speaker 1: super fair point. And again it ties to Bernard because
- 36:04Speaker 1: I think if you have some ass kickers up front,
- 36:06Speaker 1: some guys who are gonna eat bodies and eat space,
- 36:08Speaker 1: it helps keep those guys clean at the second level.
- 36:11Speaker 1: But either way, you're gonna see more movement. I think
- 36:14Speaker 1: that's what they're gonna kind of lean into this year,
- 36:17Speaker 1: just based off of who they have. Like if t J.
- 36:19Speaker 1: Sanders is going to be a rotation in your rotation
- 36:21Speaker 1: as a three to four defensive end, similar with Ed Oliver,
- 36:25Speaker 1: and then Dion Walker is your nose, you gotta play
- 36:28Speaker 1: more movement stuff like That's that's what it's gonna end
- 36:31Speaker 1: up being. And I don't mind that. I don't think
- 36:33Speaker 1: that's a bad strategy. I don't like that it's the
- 36:36Speaker 1: only strategy again. I use this all the time. I
- 36:39Speaker 1: think I got this from Nate Tice. If I'm playing
- 36:42Speaker 1: rock paper scissors, I want to be able to throw
- 36:45Speaker 1: rock paper and scissors. I don't want to be like, well,
- 36:47Speaker 1: you know, we win with movement, and it's like, Okay,
- 36:49Speaker 1: do you guys hold strong at the point of attack.
- 36:51Speaker 1: It's like, no, we don't do that. We only win
- 36:52Speaker 1: with movement. I don't want to do that. I want
- 36:54Speaker 1: to be able to do as many things as possible.
- 36:56Speaker 1: I want to live in whatever hell of the world
- 36:59Speaker 1: I want to live in and not just be put
- 37:01Speaker 1: into a box and siloed with one type of thing. Similarly,
- 37:04Speaker 1: on the other side, I don't want to just be
- 37:07Speaker 1: I don't want to just be reacting attack where it's like, yeah,
- 37:09Speaker 1: we have a bunch of dues who just holds strong
- 37:11Speaker 1: at the point of attack. Can they penetrate? No? Can
- 37:14Speaker 1: they move No? I don't want that either. That's why
- 37:18Speaker 1: all they had to do was get a friggin nose.
- 37:20Speaker 1: But such as life se le Vi Trea Bernard more
- 37:25Speaker 1: moving based defense. It works for Bernard, Yeah, I think
- 37:27Speaker 1: that's what we're gonna see in this defense. I think
- 37:29Speaker 1: it helps him and why does it help him? Going
- 37:32Speaker 1: back to his college tape and his evaluation, one of
- 37:35Speaker 1: the best things about Torell Bernard is his ability as
- 37:38Speaker 1: a blitzer and or pass rusher. To speak to that.
- 37:42Speaker 1: Twenty twenty three the season where Terrell Bernard had his
- 37:45Speaker 1: most pass rush snaps. Coincidentally a season where we saw
- 37:47Speaker 1: some really good sims, really good creepers. That was the
- 37:50Speaker 1: year where they had that really good defensive game plan
- 37:54Speaker 1: against uh Howell and the Commander's offense in Washington. Granted
- 38:02Speaker 1: it's Sam how or whatever, so like a not an
- 38:04Speaker 1: amazing quarterback, but they had some really good designs. They
- 38:07Speaker 1: were scheming some stuff up. That's the aj Apanessa interception game.
- 38:10Speaker 1: High had some nice plays. There was a lot of
- 38:12Speaker 1: good stuff that they were doing. That was that season.
- 38:17Speaker 1: Good sims, good creepers. But coincidentally, or maybe not coincidentally,
- 38:21Speaker 1: that was the season where Trol Bernard had his most
- 38:22Speaker 1: pass rush snaps. So in that season in twenty twenty three,
- 38:26Speaker 1: amongst qualifying off ball linebackers, Terrell Bernard tied for fourth
- 38:30Speaker 1: in sacks with four and a half. He was tenth
- 38:34Speaker 1: in pressures for linebackers. He was twelfth out of fifty
- 38:39Speaker 1: nine linebackers, twelfth out of fifty nine linebackers in a
- 38:42Speaker 1: pass rush win rate at sixteen point two percent. He
- 38:46Speaker 1: was third out of fifty nine qualifying linebackers in pressure
- 38:50Speaker 1: rate at twenty five point seven percent, and he was
- 38:54Speaker 1: first in past rush productivity at sixteen point two Pass
- 38:58Speaker 1: RUSS productivity essentially is a metric that measures how often
- 39:01Speaker 1: you are getting pressures relative to how many how much
- 39:04Speaker 1: you are rushing the quarterback. So, long story short, really productive.
- 39:09Speaker 1: I think Terrel Bernard is a good blitzer. I think
- 39:12Speaker 1: it is a better part of his game and in
- 39:16Speaker 1: terms of what he does. I don't know if this
- 39:19Speaker 1: is the bot, but this is weird, So I moved
- 39:24Speaker 1: that bot. I'm out. I think I'm out. Yeah, Terrel
- 39:30Speaker 1: Bernard's a good blitzer. Jim Leonard is gonna blitz his linebackers.
- 39:33Speaker 1: He's going to do a lot of movement stuff with
- 39:34Speaker 1: the front that fits into Terrel Bernard's game. So I
- 39:39Speaker 1: think that's a new different role for him. We're going
- 39:41Speaker 1: to see him blitz more, We're going to see him
- 39:43Speaker 1: move more. I think it's going to be less of
- 39:45Speaker 1: a static type of game where we see the snap
- 39:48Speaker 1: and he's on the balls of his feet, reading, trying
- 39:50Speaker 1: to see what's going on. I think it's more on
- 39:52Speaker 1: the snap, He's going somewhere, and that may seem like
- 39:56Speaker 1: a small thing. That's a big change for this defense,
- 39:59Speaker 1: and I think it's a bigger change for him. So
- 40:01Speaker 1: we are going to see a lot of movement, good
- 40:04Speaker 1: stuff I hope for to Robernard in conjunction with the
- 40:08Speaker 1: theme of this defense. I think moving towards you know,
- 40:12Speaker 1: having more movement in the defense should help to Robernard
- 40:16Speaker 1: because he's a movement player. He needs movement because he's undersized.
- 40:19Speaker 1: He's also a good blitzer. If only they got you know,
- 40:22Speaker 1: a nose tackle or some ass kickers up front to
- 40:24Speaker 1: help keep him clean, we'd be in an even better
- 40:26Speaker 1: spot for Torrell Bernard. As Nicholas says, you know well,
- 40:33Speaker 1: being said that those nose tackles were easy to find.
- 40:36Speaker 1: So it's fine. This one is that's always gonna drive
- 40:38Speaker 1: me nuts back to back years. I think even more
- 40:40Speaker 1: than that, it's been like three years where Bernard has
- 40:43Speaker 1: said in the off season, Brandon Bean has said in
- 40:47Speaker 1: the offseason, like Ola, the guys that get paid at
- 40:50Speaker 1: the top of the defensive tackle market are the guys
- 40:52Speaker 1: who rush the quarterback. It's easy to find the run
- 40:54Speaker 1: stopping like nose tackles and those interior guys. It's okay,
- 40:57Speaker 1: great if it's so easy to find them and they're cheap,
- 41:00Speaker 1: like you also mentioned, why have you not brought any
- 41:02Speaker 1: of them in? Also it's funny too because I actually
- 41:05Speaker 1: did this in an episode I think last year or
- 41:09Speaker 1: maybe earlier in this in the regular during the I
- 41:11Speaker 1: think during the regular season last year. When you look
- 41:14Speaker 1: at like the top paid interior defensive tackles. Actually, I'm
- 41:18Speaker 1: gonna look at up. They're like the guys at the top. Yeah,
- 41:23Speaker 1: they can rush the quarterback, but they're also just really
- 41:26Speaker 1: good players like who impact the run. So if we're
- 41:29Speaker 1: going by total value, you've got Chris Jones, who is
- 41:33Speaker 1: mainly more of a pass rush guy than anything, but
- 41:35Speaker 1: he can impact the run because he's such a ridiculous
- 41:38Speaker 1: penetrator and movement based guy. He's actually come on, there
- 41:43Speaker 1: you go. Then you got Jeffrey Simmons, who can do
- 41:46Speaker 1: everything all world interior defender Jeffrey Simmons Milton Williams, who's
- 41:50Speaker 1: more of a penetrator and a pass Russ guy, but
- 41:52Speaker 1: can play the run. Zach Allen penetrator and pass Russ
- 41:55Speaker 1: guy can play the run. Nom De Matabik for the
- 41:57Speaker 1: Ravens can do everything a limit. Neil plays the run
- 42:01Speaker 1: in the past. Derek Brown the run in the past,
- 42:03Speaker 1: Quinn Williams the run in the past, Deron Payne running
- 42:07Speaker 1: the past, Christian Barmore running the past, oh Sa Diggi
- 42:09Speaker 1: Zua a little more past than run, but can play
- 42:12Speaker 1: the run. Jordan Davis plays the run. Videveya plays the run.
- 42:16Speaker 1: Then you get to Ed Oliver plays the run for
- 42:19Speaker 1: being a smaller guy even though he is more of
- 42:21Speaker 1: a penetrator. Leonard Williams plays the run, Kenny Clark plays
- 42:25Speaker 1: the run. Zach Seeler plays the run. You see a theme.
- 42:28Speaker 1: I'm not gonna keep going. Ah, so long story short,
- 42:32Speaker 1: But in the Poon four one is people talk about
- 42:33Speaker 1: Pooniford is a weird one. I don't get why he
- 42:37Speaker 1: didn't play. I remember breaking down his tape when he
- 42:41Speaker 1: was here. He looked good. I don't know. McDermott didn't
- 42:46Speaker 1: want him. They opted to play Lynn Vaal Joseph ahead
- 42:48Speaker 1: of him, which is in the similar mold like You're
- 42:51Speaker 1: still opting for like a run stuffer, but Poona looked good.
- 42:55Speaker 1: I don't get why he didn't play. It is what
- 42:58Speaker 1: it is. Unfortunately at this point that's mystery. I don't
- 43:00Speaker 1: get it. But yeah, so we still have those questions
- 43:06Speaker 1: on the interior defensive line. But you know, hey, good times.
- 43:12Speaker 1: There was another question. I like this one that do
- 43:21Speaker 1: you think maybe a Bernard changes number to a larger
- 43:23Speaker 1: number like fifty five it might help his durability. I
- 43:26Speaker 1: don't like the eight. It throws me off. I don't
- 43:28Speaker 1: like it. Good for him, but I don't like it.
- 43:32Speaker 1: Ken says, what about the league going towards more tight
- 43:34Speaker 1: ends for Bernard and coverage? You know, I think he
- 43:38Speaker 1: can cover tight ends. I think what's gonna get Harry
- 43:42Speaker 1: is teams that can go with more tight ends on
- 43:45Speaker 1: the field and can live in the run. In the past,
- 43:48Speaker 1: I think that's just gonna get messy, not necessarily just
- 43:50Speaker 1: from Bernard, but defenses in general, but especially for a
- 43:53Speaker 1: linebacker like Bernard. Tight ends who can mash him into
- 43:56Speaker 1: the dirt in the run, but who also are going
- 44:00Speaker 1: to be somebody that is going to provide him a
- 44:02Speaker 1: problem as like a pass catching matchup that's a little
- 44:06Speaker 1: tougher like I would. I would rather Terrell like Terrell
- 44:13Speaker 1: Bernard verus Dalton Kincaid. I think his advantage Dalton Kincaid,
- 44:16Speaker 1: But I would rather see Terrell Bernard cover Dalton Kincaid.
- 44:20Speaker 1: Then I would see Terrell Bernard deal with Jackson Hawes
- 44:25Speaker 1: as a run blocker, if that makes sense to kind
- 44:27Speaker 1: of put that in perspective. My thoughts on Bernard and
- 44:30Speaker 1: kind of the in the league is going towards more
- 44:33Speaker 1: Jackson Hawes. They're looking for more tight ends who can
- 44:37Speaker 1: live in the light in the dark. They are going
- 44:39Speaker 1: away from Dalton Kincaid's not necessarily going away completely, but
- 44:45Speaker 1: there's it's less Dalton Kincaid's and Tyler Warrens and even
- 44:52Speaker 1: Trey McBride a little bit, and it's more Tucker Craft
- 44:56Speaker 1: and Colston Loveland. And if you're if you're not gonna
- 45:00Speaker 1: to be like a run factor or a run blocking
- 45:02Speaker 1: factor is a tight end, then you have to be
- 45:04Speaker 1: like Trey McBride and Brock Bauers and those both those
- 45:08Speaker 1: dudes are not unicorns, a tight end but pretty sick.
- 45:12Speaker 1: So yeah, it'll be interesting to kind of see how
- 45:14Speaker 1: that affects him and linebackers in general. I think linebacker
- 45:16Speaker 1: is a really interesting position because guys are getting bigger,
- 45:18Speaker 1: they got to play the run more. You still have
- 45:20Speaker 1: to play and coverage. Do oftense try to spread those
- 45:23Speaker 1: guys out? How do you attack? Some really fun stuff
- 45:28Speaker 1: in that regard. Next person I want to talk about,
- 45:31Speaker 1: Christian Benferd. I think this get what I'm about to
- 45:33Speaker 1: say can also apply to Max Harriston as well. But
- 45:36Speaker 1: long story short, here, we are going to get more
- 45:39Speaker 1: man and match coverage from the Buffalo Bills in twenty
- 45:45Speaker 1: twenty six. I also think we're going to get more
- 45:47Speaker 1: single high coverage. So that's your Cover one, which is
- 45:49Speaker 1: straight up man coverage, and then Cover three, which is
- 45:52Speaker 1: zone coverage. But I also think they will play Cover
- 45:55Speaker 1: three from a you know, a one on one in
- 45:58Speaker 1: match perspective, so you're gonna get a lot more one
- 46:01Speaker 1: on one type of coverage island type stuff for Benford
- 46:04Speaker 1: and for Harrison in general. Denver, for reference, had in
- 46:08Speaker 1: twenty twenty five had the ninth most the ninth highest
- 46:13Speaker 1: Cover one rate in the league at twenty one point five.
- 46:15Speaker 1: The Bills were sixteenth at seventeen point eight. But some
- 46:19Speaker 1: of that coverage stuff for Denver is muddy. I've talked
- 46:21Speaker 1: about it before when I broke down Jim Leonard when
- 46:24Speaker 1: the Bills hired him. Essentially, like the single high looks
- 46:27Speaker 1: in Denver can play out like man and or zone
- 46:32Speaker 1: because of the match rules and coverage rules that they play.
- 46:35Speaker 1: Sometimes it's just straight up man coverage like so single
- 46:37Speaker 1: high and it's cover one, right, you got man coverage,
- 46:39Speaker 1: single high safety middle of the field. But they have
- 46:43Speaker 1: a lot of matchup principles on the back end. Vance
- 46:45Speaker 1: Joseph this someone I'm about to say now you see
- 46:49Speaker 1: it on the tape. And then Ben Olbright had this
- 46:52Speaker 1: quote I think it was from Vance Joseph himself. What
- 46:55Speaker 1: advanced Joseph describes as zoned inside and match outside where
- 47:01Speaker 1: they're quote giving the player one side of the route
- 47:04Speaker 1: and they preach leverage. It's all about winning your leverage.
- 47:06Speaker 1: And it can look like man, but it's not man
- 47:08Speaker 1: in the traditional sense. And then again, if you really
- 47:11Speaker 1: if you watch the Denver Broncos, you'll see them playing
- 47:13Speaker 1: stuff where it looks like cover one, but they'll have
- 47:16Speaker 1: like a man side and his own side. Again, there's
- 47:18Speaker 1: a lot of rules based coverage match based coverage. And
- 47:21Speaker 1: if you don't know what match coverage is, there's different
- 47:24Speaker 1: match coverages, different rules, and you know, this is stubby
- 47:27Speaker 1: and this is poach and this is lock and this
- 47:30Speaker 1: is all these types of things. Essentially, all you need
- 47:33Speaker 1: to know at the end of the day is if
- 47:34Speaker 1: someone's playing match coverage, you're just playing a rules based coverage, right,
- 47:39Speaker 1: And that's the easiest way to look at it. It's
- 47:41Speaker 1: a big blanket broad term. There's specific buckets within that,
- 47:45Speaker 1: but if someone's playing match coverage, it's rules based coverage.
- 47:48Speaker 1: You know, if there's two receivers to this side, the
- 47:50Speaker 1: outside receiver is one, the inside receivers two. The defense
- 47:54Speaker 1: has rules. If number one does this, the corner does
- 47:58Speaker 1: a If the number one does something else, the corner
- 48:01Speaker 1: does be based off of what number one or number
- 48:04Speaker 1: two does. The nickel will do a B or C,
- 48:07Speaker 1: the linebacker, the safety. It's all rules based coverage, and
- 48:10Speaker 1: when it works, it's phenomenal because you're playing off the
- 48:14Speaker 1: route distribution. You are matching the route distribution, you are
- 48:17Speaker 1: matching what the offense does. What's tough about that is
- 48:21Speaker 1: you need everybody to see the same thing at the
- 48:24Speaker 1: same time and then do the same stuff accordingly. So
- 48:27Speaker 1: it takes a lot of coordination, It takes a lot
- 48:29Speaker 1: of practice. It takes a lot of synchronization. Everybody needs
- 48:32Speaker 1: to see the same thing and see it relatively at
- 48:34Speaker 1: the same time, so everybody has to see the thing
- 48:37Speaker 1: and be right, and everybody has to see the thing quickly.
- 48:40Speaker 1: So it's kind of tough. Whereas straight man coverage is like, Okay,
- 48:43Speaker 1: this is my man. And then if you're playing spot
- 48:44Speaker 1: drop zone coverage like Madden style coverages for the most part,
- 48:47Speaker 1: you know, okay, you know, I have the corona flat
- 48:50Speaker 1: on the snap. I'm gonna run in a forty five
- 48:52Speaker 1: degree angle. You know, eyes here, eyes there, get to
- 48:56Speaker 1: my spot cover, top down, whatever it is. I think
- 49:00Speaker 1: you're gonna get less spot drop type of coverage overall.
- 49:04Speaker 1: So you're gonna get more man coverage, you're gonna get
- 49:05Speaker 1: more match coverage, rules based coverage, and you're gonna get
- 49:10Speaker 1: more single high stuff. The Bills corners Benford Hairston, but
- 49:14Speaker 1: I'm using Benford for this because he's more of the
- 49:16Speaker 1: known product and is a really good zone corner. The
- 49:20Speaker 1: Bills are gonna play more one on one, whether it's
- 49:23Speaker 1: man or match and less spot drop zone type of stuff.
- 49:27Speaker 1: I think Benford. I'm excited to see how Benford does
- 49:29Speaker 1: in it because I think Benford is a good technique player.
- 49:33Speaker 1: I've talked about it before. I don't think he's someone
- 49:35Speaker 1: who is like on a scale of one to ten.
- 49:39Speaker 1: I think he's like a six and a half or
- 49:41Speaker 1: a seven in like everything, and that doesn't sound sexy.
- 49:44Speaker 1: But he's not a sexy player. Actually, No, he's like
- 49:46Speaker 1: he's like a nine and a half out of ten
- 49:47Speaker 1: when it comes to playing the run as a corner.
- 49:49Speaker 1: He's a tremendous run defender as a corner. But he's like,
- 49:53Speaker 1: not the most athletic. He's not the biggest, he's not
- 49:56Speaker 1: the fastest, he's not the quickest. He doesn't he's not
- 49:58Speaker 1: the most fluid. He doesn't have the change of direction.
- 50:01Speaker 1: But he's technically sound and he doesn't really have a
- 50:04Speaker 1: huge weakness or vulnerability. There's nothing on a scale at
- 50:07Speaker 1: one to ten where he's like a three or a
- 50:08Speaker 1: four below average. He's above average to good at everything
- 50:12Speaker 1: across the board. Is he elite in any one area
- 50:15Speaker 1: aside from the run defense, No, so from a coverage aspect.
- 50:19Speaker 1: I don't think he's elite in any one area, but
- 50:21Speaker 1: he plays with good technique, He plays within himself, he studies,
- 50:25Speaker 1: he knows who he is, and he's just a very
- 50:27Speaker 1: overall good coverage player. So I'm excited to see what
- 50:31Speaker 1: he does because I think he's gonna get put into
- 50:34Speaker 1: more true one on one situations, whether it's match, whether
- 50:36Speaker 1: it's man, which is a departure for the Bills a
- 50:40Speaker 1: little bit, who have played more spot drop coverages in
- 50:43Speaker 1: the past, much to my chagrin. And then we'll see
- 50:46Speaker 1: that for Max Harrison as well. We'll see that for
- 50:47Speaker 1: Davison Agbanosen. Obviously there is no bar set for Ignosin
- 50:52Speaker 1: because he's a rookie. But you know, I think you know,
- 50:56Speaker 1: from a new or different role for Christian Benford. Still
- 50:59Speaker 1: you're still playing corner obviously, but similar to Bend, similar
- 51:01Speaker 1: to Bernard at linebacker, you're wearing a different hat or
- 51:05Speaker 1: different things they're being asked of you, or the amount
- 51:08Speaker 1: that they're being asked of you is changed. Like I
- 51:10Speaker 1: still think the Bills will end up being more of
- 51:12Speaker 1: a quote unquote zone based defense, but they're gonna play
- 51:15Speaker 1: more man, They're gonna play more match and then match
- 51:18Speaker 1: coverage stuff is always it's always muddy with how it's charted.
- 51:22Speaker 1: You know, are people seeing the coverages, are they charting
- 51:24Speaker 1: it as match? Usually there's not match filters on sites,
- 51:30Speaker 1: so it's gets match coverage just gets chalked up as zone.
- 51:33Speaker 1: But it's really playing more like Man. So the numbers
- 51:35Speaker 1: and ratios get muddy. But at the end of the day,
- 51:38Speaker 1: the Bills are gonna end up playing more man and
- 51:40Speaker 1: they're gonna be playing more match. Easiest way to look
- 51:42Speaker 1: at it is the corners are going to have more
- 51:44Speaker 1: true one on one situations. You know, if the Bills
- 51:48Speaker 1: play quarters and they get a three by one, I
- 51:50Speaker 1: think they're gonna lock the solo receiver side with a corner,
- 51:55Speaker 1: so we'll see that. You know, you're just gonna get
- 51:56Speaker 1: more man, You're gonna get more match, all that kind
- 51:58Speaker 1: of stuff. And I'm excited to see what he does,
- 52:02Speaker 1: if he raises his game, if it's too much for him,
- 52:06Speaker 1: if he succeeds, if he doesn't, it'll be important. I
- 52:10Speaker 1: want to get back to this, Roy says, is Benford
- 52:12Speaker 1: a top five corner or top ten or overrated? I
- 52:16Speaker 1: said this last year and a bunch of people were
- 52:18Speaker 1: upset with me because I guess Joe Marino called him
- 52:21Speaker 1: a top ten corner and said he was a top
- 52:23Speaker 1: maybe even top five if I remember correctly, and a
- 52:25Speaker 1: lot of people said, well, Joe Marino thinks this no
- 52:28Speaker 1: shaded Joe Marino. People were just yelling at me because
- 52:31Speaker 1: they really love Joe Marino. I don't think Christian Benford
- 52:34Speaker 1: is a top five corner. I don't think he's a
- 52:37Speaker 1: lock for the top ten. I think Christian Benford is
- 52:41Speaker 1: like ballpark, like thirteen to fifteen. If you told me
- 52:46Speaker 1: you think he's top ten, I'm fine with that. I
- 52:49Speaker 1: think he could creep into the top ten if somebody
- 52:51Speaker 1: has him as ten or nine. I don't think that's egregious.
- 52:55Speaker 1: I think top five is too far for Christian Benford.
- 52:59Speaker 1: But I do think he's very good. I do think
- 53:01Speaker 1: he is a CB one. I think he's one of
- 53:04Speaker 1: the better players on the Buffalo Bills, and I think
- 53:07Speaker 1: depending on the year that he has playing in Jim
- 53:10Speaker 1: Leonard's system, we could have more of a conversation about
- 53:12Speaker 1: locking him into the top ten. I think he's in
- 53:14Speaker 1: the conversation and the role the decks for like anywhere
- 53:18Speaker 1: from ten to fifteen. So if you put him in
- 53:20Speaker 1: the top ten, I think that's fine. I just averaged
- 53:22Speaker 1: it out and said, like twelve thirteen, whatever it is.
- 53:24Speaker 1: I do not think he's top five conversation I think
- 53:27Speaker 1: can happen for top ten. For me, he's not, but
- 53:30Speaker 1: I think he's close and he's in that conversation. Similarly
- 53:34Speaker 1: to how I thought previous years, please don't yell at me.
- 53:39Speaker 1: Please don't tell me that Joe Marino thinks he's top
- 53:41Speaker 1: five or whoever thinks he's top ten or top five.
- 53:44Speaker 1: There were a lot of people who were mad at me.
- 53:45Speaker 1: I think of the end last year, last year, maybe
- 53:47Speaker 1: the offseason before. Yeah, people were people were upset at me.
- 53:54Speaker 1: Drugger says, is Christian Benford a Hawkeye superhero comp Ooh oh,
- 54:03Speaker 1: I don't know, though. Hawkey's like he's got like multiple
- 54:07Speaker 1: elite traits, like the hand eye coordination, the hand to
- 54:11Speaker 1: hand combat, obviously all the arrow stuff, and part of
- 54:16Speaker 1: me thinks that's kind of fair, and then all parlor
- 54:18Speaker 1: of me also thinks that's kind of underrating Hawkeye a
- 54:20Speaker 1: little bit. That's an interesting comp he. I don't know
- 54:24Speaker 1: Hawkey's elite at a bunch of stuff interesting. I also
- 54:28Speaker 1: don't know how he has powers or what he does,
- 54:30Speaker 1: like he's just like a really highly trained human being,
- 54:32Speaker 1: like like Black Widow. I've never gotten into Hawkeye too
- 54:34Speaker 1: much aside from what I've seen in the Marvel movies
- 54:36Speaker 1: and shows and stuff. His bookie says, fun fact, John
- 54:41Speaker 1: Elway carried the Broncos with three Super Bowl appearances in
- 54:43Speaker 1: his first eight season, so called best quarterback in the NFL. Currently,
- 54:47Speaker 1: Josh Allen hasn't been to one super Bowl in his
- 54:49Speaker 1: first eight seasons. I don't understand the correlation aside from
- 54:54Speaker 1: just trying to knock Josh Allen, but I don't. I
- 54:59Speaker 1: don't understand. But yeah, Kent says, I love Benford, but
- 55:03Speaker 1: he's going to have to show something this season. If
- 55:05Speaker 1: he shows up, he will be one of Bean's best picks.
- 55:06Speaker 1: I already think he's one of Brandon Bean's best picks.
- 55:08Speaker 1: You got you got a legit CB one on Day
- 55:13Speaker 1: three in the sixth round. That's awesome. That's a huge hit.
- 55:17Speaker 1: I think it's arguably if you're talking about where you
- 55:20Speaker 1: took a guy and what they turned into, Christian Benford
- 55:22Speaker 1: is one of the best draft picks in the Bean era.
- 55:25Speaker 1: Obviously you could be like, oh, well, you could be
- 55:27Speaker 1: like Josh Allen, but that's a top ten pick. Top
- 55:31Speaker 1: ten guys should be high end performers. Christian Benford is
- 55:35Speaker 1: a CB one grant. I don't think he's top five,
- 55:37Speaker 1: and I don't think he's a lock for top ten,
- 55:38Speaker 1: but I think you can flirt with that conversation for
- 55:41Speaker 1: him in the top ten. That's a huge win for
- 55:43Speaker 1: a six round corner. Yeah. I already think he's one
- 55:46Speaker 1: of He's already one of Bean's best picks. But if
- 55:48Speaker 1: he has the year that I'm hoping he has, and
- 55:51Speaker 1: honestly the year that he needs that the Bills defense
- 55:53Speaker 1: needs him to have in this coverage structure and in
- 55:57Speaker 1: this coverage scheme, yeah, I think he could really further
- 56:01Speaker 1: cement himself. But he yet good corner, very good corner.
- 56:07Speaker 1: R J says we need Aunt and JP to have
- 56:09Speaker 1: a power where they just break down superheroes like that.
- 56:11Speaker 1: I would love that. Some people really touchy though on it.
- 56:15Speaker 1: I remember I did a I did a tweet or
- 56:17Speaker 1: a pope. Yeah, I did a tweet like three or
- 56:19Speaker 1: four years ago where I compared all the quarterbacks in
- 56:21Speaker 1: the NFL different Dragon ball Z characters and a lot
- 56:24Speaker 1: of Bills fans were upset because I said Josh Allen
- 56:26Speaker 1: was sell and they were like, Josh Jones should be
- 56:27Speaker 1: Goku YadA YadA. People are never happy. Long story short, Yeah,
- 56:33Speaker 1: Andy says Benford shut down multiple top five wide receivers
- 56:36Speaker 1: last season. I don't what are your points of reference?
- 56:40Speaker 1: And like the show, what's the shutdown aspect? Like you're
- 56:44Speaker 1: playing zone coverage of that side, Like he's not really
- 56:47Speaker 1: a corner who's manning up and necessarily going everywhere with
- 56:52Speaker 1: certain guys. He played well in the Bengals game, if
- 56:54Speaker 1: I remember correctly, against Chase, but I don't necessarily consider
- 56:59Speaker 1: Ben for a lockdown corner or being in the for
- 57:04Speaker 1: me again conversation of you know kind of you know,
- 57:10Speaker 1: you said thirty yards or so no tds. Yeah, but
- 57:12Speaker 1: what's the target rate? What's the coverage? It's not just
- 57:16Speaker 1: that he only gave up thirty yards. Was he still
- 57:18Speaker 1: getting beat? But the quarterback wasn't able to go that
- 57:21Speaker 1: way because the progression started somewhere else, or because he
- 57:24Speaker 1: got pressure to that side and he was forced to
- 57:26Speaker 1: go somewhere else. Corner metrics are tough in general, because
- 57:31Speaker 1: just because you're not giving up yards and you're not
- 57:33Speaker 1: getting targeted doesn't necessarily mean you're dominating. It could just
- 57:38Speaker 1: mean they want to attack the corner too, or it
- 57:41Speaker 1: could mean that the progression is starting somewhere else, or
- 57:44Speaker 1: that pressure came again, pressure came from that side, and
- 57:47Speaker 1: you got beat. But the quarterback wasn't able to get
- 57:49Speaker 1: throw off, or he looked somewhere else or got flushed
- 57:51Speaker 1: from the pocket. So I think just defining it in
- 57:56Speaker 1: terms of how many yards were given up isn't necessarily
- 58:00Speaker 1: telling the whole story. I understand your point and the notion,
- 58:05Speaker 1: but for me, like if we're going and again this
- 58:08Speaker 1: is just me, But if I'm going off, I'm just
- 58:11Speaker 1: looking at a list of like corner contracts right now.
- 58:17Speaker 1: I mean, the best corner in the NFL is patser Tan.
- 58:19Speaker 1: The second best corner in the NFL is Derek Stingley.
- 58:21Speaker 1: For me, if not for Pats or Tan, Derek Stingley
- 58:25Speaker 1: would be the best corner in the NFL. But you've
- 58:27Speaker 1: got Stan, You've got Stingley. I know McDuffie plays inside,
- 58:31Speaker 1: but I think you can play outside as well. I
- 58:33Speaker 1: think McDuffie is better than Benford. I think Denzil Award
- 58:37Speaker 1: is better than Benford. So what are we at? There?
- 58:39Speaker 1: Four already? I think I would I would not even
- 58:44Speaker 1: think I would take Quinnon Mitchell. That's five. I would
- 58:47Speaker 1: take J. C. Horn. That's six. And kind of like,
- 58:53Speaker 1: I'm already there from that standpoint, So that's six right there,
- 58:58Speaker 1: and I haven't even really further gone down the list.
- 59:00Speaker 1: And why did this kind of go out? Now? Right now?
- 59:03Speaker 1: The window closed on me. That's fantastic. And he said,
- 59:07Speaker 1: unless we have the playbook, it's tough to tell why
- 59:08Speaker 1: the passes are not coming towards something. I well know.
- 59:11Speaker 1: That's where the tape comes in, Like you can watch
- 59:14Speaker 1: the tape and see, Like, if you watch the tape,
- 59:18Speaker 1: you can watch guys every one of his coverage reps
- 59:21Speaker 1: and see, Okay, was he beat? Was he not beat?
- 59:25Speaker 1: Does he have help over the top? Is he a
- 59:27Speaker 1: cloud corner? Is he matching this guy? Is he and
- 59:29Speaker 1: man coverage with this guy? I think that's where the
- 59:31Speaker 1: tape comes in. And when I watch the tape, for me,
- 59:34Speaker 1: I see a very good player, Christian Benford. I don't
- 59:37Speaker 1: necessarily see a like a top ten lock. Again, I
- 59:40Speaker 1: think because he's flirting with that conversation, I think he's
- 59:43Speaker 1: close to the top ten. Or again, if someone wants
- 59:46Speaker 1: to put him in the top ten, I think that's fine.
- 59:48Speaker 1: But I just don't think he's top five, and I
- 59:50Speaker 1: don't think he's a lock for top ten. But he
- 59:52Speaker 1: can be in that conversation a little bit. I don't
- 59:54Speaker 1: think that's crazy. Nicholas says Benford's punch timing is probably
- 59:59Speaker 1: one of the best traits at the catch point for
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: PBUs and after the catch for fumbles. Oh, that's fair point.
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: He's really good peanut punches. Punches at the catch point
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: through the hands. Yeah, he's a really good turnover generation
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: now from interception standpoint, but fumbles and stuff. I think
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: that also speaks to his ability as attackler, Like he's
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: so good coming up and playing the run, like I
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: love him being a forced player. Like if the run
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: wants to get outside and the receiver wants to push
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: crack to the safety, I'm like, Okay, that's fine. Have
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: your corner be one on one with Benford, or have
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: your running back be one on one with Benford. Benford
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: probably is bringing that running back down. Yeah, I think
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: that's fair. R J says, I think Benford is five
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: to ten for his ranking. We don't have any elite
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: players outside of Allen. Even Cook is good but not elite.
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: I think Cook is. You could tell me James Cook
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: is a top five running back. I think Cook is
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: more like five to seven than he is top five locked.
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: But if he has another season this year like he
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: has the past couple where he's continued to improve, we
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: need to have a conversation about James Cook being in
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: the top five. For me. Bijon is number one, Jamier
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: gives his number two, and then it's kind of like, Okay,
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: are you taking McCaffrey, are you taking Barkley? For me?
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: I want to see what Miami's offense looks like this
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: year from a run game perspective without Mike McDaniel. I
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: think Devon A Chan is a top five dude. I
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: think Devon a Chan is really great, but he's at
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: McDaniel scheme and run stuff up, and McDaniel's an awesome
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: run game designer and caller so and sequencer, So we'll
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: see what a Chan looks like without McDaniel. But I
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: think Cook is definitely a top ten running back in
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: the league. For me, saying someone is like one of
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: the best players at their position means they have to
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: be in the top ten and then if they're elite, yeah,
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: they're in the top five. I think Cook is better
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: than good. I don't think he's e laite because I
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: don't think he's a top five lock, But I Cook
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: is definitely a top ten running back and I think
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: he's closer to five than he is to ten. Benford,
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: I think is closer to ten than he is to five,
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: and I don't think he's a top ten lock. But
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: if we're looking at like are the Bill's best players
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: in terms of where they rank in their position groups,
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: it's Josh Allen, James Cook, and then Christian Benford. You know,
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: Spencer Brown had a really encouraging year a couple of
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: years ago, looked like a really good right tackle, and
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: then he was banged up again last year and injuries
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: kind of reared. It's ugly head Dawkins is, you know, fluctuating,
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: and he's been a mercurial player. So after I think
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: Alan Cook and Benford your closest guys to have in
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: like top ten guys their position is Spencer Brown and
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: Dion Dawkins. If you're separating right tackle and left tackle,
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: if you're combining tackles in general, I don't think either
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: of them are hitting the top ten. But if you're
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: doing left tackles its own spot, right tackles its own spot,
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: I think Brown and Dawkins have an opportunity to get
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: back into those spots. And then after that it's, you know,
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: maybe McGovern has a you know, a claim to be
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: in a top ten center. And then after that, I
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: think it's it's muddy at the best. Good conversation. Next one,
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: nothing too crazy. Talked about it a bit on the show,
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: kind of forecast has been in the offseason. Landon Jackson.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: This one is legit new role. He's not wearing an
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: added hat, he's not tweaking, you know, certain ratios of
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: things like Bernard or Christian Benford is you know, hey
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: we're playing more man coverage. Hey we're blitzing more. He's
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: playing a new position. He is not going to be
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: a edge. He's not gonna be a three four edge.
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: He's not gonna be a four to three edge. He
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: is getting heavier and as we know, he's going to
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: play especially a three four defensive end spot. He's going
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: to play that four eye inside shoulder of the tackle
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: in the tight front, or if the Bills you know,
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: want to, you know, move the chain down a little
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: bit and pull the chain and adjust some guys and
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: play more of an eagle front where you have a
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: four eye, a one tech and a three tech. Jackson
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: is going to be that four eye or that three
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: depending on it they're playing strong or weak eagle, or
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: you know, he'll line up head up on a tackle
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: in a true four or he'll line up at a
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: five outside shoulder of the tackle. Maybe he kicks inside
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: a little further on some pass rushing downs, or maybe
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: everyone's on the lines up in a two point stance
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: and set the edge. But long story short, Landon Jackson
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: is going to be a three four defensive end type
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: versus being a three four or a four to three
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: edge like he was last year. This isn't complete fish
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: out of water stuff for him. He played you know,
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: some four I and some odd front defensive end at Arkansas,
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: but it was more from like a spread type of
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: approach against the type of offenses they were facing, and
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: you know what was going on, especially like there's a
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: bunch of reps of him, you know, playing that against Tennessee.
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: Tennessee is a big spread type of team. But you know,
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: I think it'll be a bit different, you know, him
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: playing this type of role versus NFL condensed formations and
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: run schemes and double teams and downhill blocks and all that. Again,
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: it's going to be different what's asked of him, And
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: obviously the competition level is higher, but it's gonna be
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: different with what's asked of him versus how he played,
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: you know, that four I or that odd front defensive
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: end at times at Arkansas. T J Sanders is also
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: in that boat for different reasons. You know, the heavy
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: majority of t J. Sanders' experience is being a four
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: down three tech. So yeah, he's in a similar conversation.
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: But I expect Landon Jackson to win this role. I
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: think if I had to lean in that way, I
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: would pick Jackson. But as I've said before on the show,
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: one of these guys, t J. Sanders or LANDA. Jackson
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: needs to become a reliable starter in this role. One
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: of those guys becoming a reliable starter is massively important
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: to the Bills defense. If not if neither of them
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: of those guys rise up or nobody rises up. In general,
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: they have a legitimate hole of that position, not to
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: mention how ugly it can get if at all. Oliver
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: gets hurt at the other three four defensive end spot
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: and a similar conversation if Dean Walker goes down, if
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: Deon Walker goes down, what's happening? Are you doing? Dwayne Carter?
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: Are you doing? Fredarian mathis are you doing? Zion log? Like,
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: who's backing up Oliver? Is it? You know? Is it
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: gonna be? Frederian Mathis you're gonna let him rocks a
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: three ford defensive end?
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: Is it?
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: Zaane Durant Like what what are we doing?
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: Not?
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: What are we doing? And like, oh my god, what
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: are we doing? But what is gonna happen? Landon Jackson
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: or t J. Sanders emerging and locking down one of
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: those three four defensive end spots because they're playing well
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: is a very very important and underrated storyline for the
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: for the Bills as a team, but especially obviously the
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: defensive side of the ball this year, Rice is Land
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: and Jackson better against the past or the run run.
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: I'm still not a huge you know, if you watch
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: so regularly. I wasn't a huge fan of Jackson coming out.
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: I don't like dudes that are high cut and who
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: don't have a lot of lower body bend. You know,
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: he's stiff, not a great not a lot of change
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: of direction. He is high cut, long leg legs. But
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: he plays hard. He plays violent. He plays long, and
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: he wants to play the run and he will so
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: like he is an ass kicker, like he wants to
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: play violent. The issue is he's got to be so
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: precise with his hands and with his length and playing
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: to that because he doesn't have a lot of lower
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: body flexibility. Leverage is going to be so important off
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: the jump for him. On the snap, like, his positioning
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: has to be great because if guys get under him
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: or get into him a little bit, I don't know
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: if he's going to be able to anchor, because the
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: only way he's gonna be able to anchor is if, like,
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: if he's on a forty five degree angle and gets
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: that leverage right, He's not gonna be a guy who
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: oh you know, watch the look at the lower body
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: flexibility and how he recoils and how he absorbs the
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: impact and is able to disperse it throughout his body.
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: He doesn't have that, So I do think this. I
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: like him in this role better than I did last year.
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: Like I like him better as a three to four
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: defensive end and adding weight then I I did as
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: a four to three edge in the Bills defense last year.
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: So I like him better this year than I did
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: last year. But I still don't love him. I think
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: he would be a fine rotational guy at that spot,
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: just like I think T. J. Sanders could be a
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: fine rotational guy. I don't think either of them should
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: be starting in a defense right now. But you gotta
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: dance with who brought you, and that's what the Bills
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: brought at this point. But I would say Landon Jackson
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: is against the run than he is against the pass.
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: All you know, he had some encouraging pass rush reps
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: last year against Chicago in the preseason, and then he
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: got hurt. We didn't see him again, So we'll see,
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: we'll see, we'll see, we'll see. Ken says, unlike many,
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: I actually think some of the Bills's former draft picks
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: will benefit from Leonard's defense. Not out of the park,
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: but serviceable, maybe a little better. I do think Leonard's
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: philosophy and identity is much more. As I've said before,
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: like is much more in tune and in line with
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: modern trends and NFL you know, meta, and I do so.
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: I also trust him to kind of put guys in
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: the right positions and play more of a matchup based defense.
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: So I think things will look better overall, and things
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: will feel better. I think he'll raise the floor of
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: the defense. I just don't And even to the point,
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: I actually think this comment is fair, pretty fair for
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: the most part. My issue is the guys that are
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: still on the defense. You can only do so many
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: things with them. That is more of my qualm. Like
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: I think Leonard will do a good job using what
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: he has. My issue is more there are only so
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: many uses he has and only so many things he
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: can do. Like if we have a bunch of random
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: ingredients in the kitchen, I trust him to make the
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: best meal out of the ingredients that we have. But
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: as we just have a bunch of vegetables, like he
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: can't make filet mignon because there is no stake and
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: there is no meet. Now he could make an awesome
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: salad or whatever the hell you want to do with
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: all the vegetables. But so I trust him to maximize
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: what's in the cupboards and what's in the fridge. But
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: you need certain ingredients to be able to make certain meals,
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: and I don't think they necessarily have all those ingredients
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: like I would like them to. But I also didn't
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: expect him to do all that this year. They didn't
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: have a ton of financial resources. They didn't have a
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: ton of draft capital. They acquired some draft capital, but
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: then chose to go in other ways. So we'll see.
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: But I do trust Leonard to raise the floor of
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: the defense as a whole, and I would even say
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: for a good chunk of the players. But I think
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: the ceiling of the defense collectively is limited this in
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: this year because they don't have the flexibility and the
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: positional archetypes and body types needed for the type of
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: multiplicity that ideally his system has or could use, or
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: even just I would say the rotation in traits like
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: not having you know having all of your edges essentially
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: be power and compression. Guys, Michael Hoyt's a bit different.
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: We'll see if he plays, but having you know your
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: top three edges as of right now we'll see if
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: Hoyit plays. But your top three edges are Group, Chubb
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: and TJ. Parker. Those dudes are all cut in the
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: same mold, right. Those guys are all power compression, play
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: the run, set the edge type of dudes. You don't
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: have a dip bendy, speed juice guy coming off the edge.
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: Maybe that guy's Javon Solomon. Maybe this defense is a
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: nice boon for Javon Solomon. And then again, Hoyt, I
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: think is a little different. You can line him up
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: in a multitude of spots. I don't think he's even
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: like a true edge, like he's a He's a chess piece.
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: I hate saying that because it gets overused too much,
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: but yeah, I do think this is a fair sentiment. Granted,
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: I'm a huge Jim Leonard proponent and guy for Jim
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: Leonard and I have been since like twenty eighteen. But yeah,
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: good times, fair point, fair comment, bum bum bum. Fourth person,
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: I want to talk about Jackson Hawes talked about this before.
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: I've talked about this in the film room, spoke about
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: it on the show, I spoke about it on Mena Kimes.
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: I think we're gonna get more fullback stuff with Jackson Hawes.
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: With Gilliam gone, we're gonna get more twelve and thirteen
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: personnel and eleven personnel, and I think we're gonna see
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: more spots where Jackson Hawes is the quote unquote full back.
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: So I think you could have him, you know, as
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: like an an F in the formation and use him
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: as the move guy, set him in motion, line him
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: up in the backfield, shift all this type of stuff.
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: But I also think he'll be used more as a
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: pass catcher this year. Last year, obviously he was primarily
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: like the blocking tight end. This year, I think he'll
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: take on a little more as a pass catcher. So
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: I think you'll see him more as a pass catcher
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: a little bit, and also some more fullback. I also
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: love the ideas I've said before of using him and
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: the Bills titands in general and more spread looks. So
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: you come out in twelve or thirteen personnel and you
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: mash the defense with the right, you run right down
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: their throats, and then you stay in that same personnel
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: group and the next play you come out in a
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: three x two empty gun and spread it out, or
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: you come out in a three by one or two
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: by two, and again it's spread and you're in the gun.
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: Maybe you even add some tempo to it to really
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: throw the defense off. I just think those personnel groupings
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: and tempo as well. You can use that to put
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: defenses into a buying from a personnel and disguising coverage
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: standpoint right. If you're going more spread, the defense has
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: to match how wide you are with your alignment and
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: your formation, so it's harder for them to muddy looks
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: for you. That's one of the disadvantage of being in
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: condensed looks. When you are in condensed formations as an offense,
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: the defense, by extension is also condensed, so it's easier
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: because they have less real estate to cover. It's easier
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: for them to sit there and kind of be like, okay,
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: we can spin our safeties. We can play this inverted
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: Tampa two. We can show split split field safety pre
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: snap and then you know shift a single high post
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: snap or vice versa. You know, you can do all
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: this stuff. If you are spread out literally like from
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: a width standpoint, spread out and you have you know,
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: larger formational width, it's harder for defenses to disguise. You
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: can't play these games, cause it's harder for somebody to
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: be lined up you know, wide and then all of
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: a sudden rotate back into the box and you know,
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: do different things with your safeties and your coverage structures,
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: so hopefully identify things a little bit, creates an opportunity
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: for some more static looks for the defense, and then tempo. Obviously,
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: if you're just going fast, it's harder for the defense
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: to get their calls in. Everything has to be relayed.
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: They have to be on time. You know, if they're
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: timing their safety spins and their coverage rotations, you are
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: changing your timing. So if they're constantly guessing around their toes,
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: they can't really get into a rhythm. So it just overall,
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: you know, it's harder to disguise versus spread and then
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: versus heavy groups that go spread, how do you match that?
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: Especially if they just ran on you the play before
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: from that same group. You essentially have to play more
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: of the situation and the tendencies instead of personnel, which
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: is a larger defensive discussion where football is moving towards
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: more of play the situation instead of playing the personnel.
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: You know, the rams going with thirteen personnel to try
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: and pass the football. So it's like, Okay, you see
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: thirteen personnel, but it's not like, oh they're in thirteen,
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: here comes heavy. You know they're gonna run it. It's
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: more like, well, they're in thirteen, they're probably still gonna pas,
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: so maybe we should stay in nickel. But then if
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: you do that, does the offense check and say, oh,
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: they stayed in nickel. Let's run duo and run it
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: down their throat and run it through their face. And
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: that puts a defense into a mine. So I think
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: Jackson Hawes still gonna be tight end, but his new
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: or different role is I think he'll see some more
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: fullback stuff, and I think we'll see him more as
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: a pass catcher, whether in spread stuff or condensed stuff,
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: you know, chipping and releasing out or running more routes.
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: I think he'll be used. You know, again, I don't
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: think he's going to be like a sixty eight to
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: eighty catch guy, but I think he'll have some more targets.
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: I think he'll have some more pass catching usage, and
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: I think he'll get some more fullback stuff out of him.
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: And as I've stayed before, I said this on Mina
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: Kimes I said this on this show. I think the
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: Bills need to live in eleven or not eleven in
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: twelve and thirteen next year. Use those tight ends, run
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: the ball, grind defenses into dust, and then go play
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: action for your shot plays. Get Josh Allen on the move,
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: some tight end delays, some tight end leaks, Get Dalton
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: Kincaid in some mismatch opportunities. Get Dj Moore someone on
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: ones if they're not respecting Dj Moore. I think you
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: can go, you know, with twelve and thirteen and be
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: condensed and run the football. Be condensed and do true
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: dropback or straight drop back. Be condensed and go play
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: action that you can stay in that same personnel grouping
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: and go spread and run the ball, or go spread
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: and pass. There's a lot of opportunity to kind of
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: create mismatches, and I think Hawes, with what he can
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: do as a blocker, is going to want to give
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: teams the opportunity to put some bigger, heavier type of
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: dudes on him to kind of match that physicality, and
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: then I think he has the opportunity to kind of
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: beat them a little bit as a pass catcher. Let
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: alone obviously, what Dawson Knox is, you know, because he's
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: a better pass catching threat than Hawes, and then Kinkaid
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: is a better pass catcher that that both of those guys.
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: So I just think the thirteen and twelve personnel gives
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: the Bills a lot of options. And then if you're
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: going twelve the receivers you package you with. Is it
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: DJ and Shakiir? Is it DJ? And Palmer? Is it
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: DJ and Coleman? Is it some other combination? You know?
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: Do you take James Cook and motion him out of
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: the backfield and put him into the slot and Josh
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: Allen gets into gun. There's a lot of schematic potential
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: for this offense that I hope the Bills kind of
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: lean into a little bit more. I think last year
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: and the year before, and it's hard to argue with
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: what the Bills have been. Josh all won an MVP
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: two years ago. They last year, despite all the qualms
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: and worries, they essentially had a top four offense across
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: the board by most, if not all, metrics. But I
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: do feel like they kind of just ran what they ran,
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: which isn't bad, right, You know who you are. If
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: it's not broken, don't fix it. But I do wish
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: there had been more wrinkles present throughout the year, not
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: necessarily throwing everything out there so everybody can see your
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: entire catalog. Like I'm a fan of keeping some stuff
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: in the holster for the playoffs. But I do think
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: they have the opportunity to be a little more schematically
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: creative and put defenses into a bind a little bit more. Again,
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: how much more They had the leading rusher in the
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: NFL last year, and they had a top four offense
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: like by EPA, DVOWA, all this stuff like totally EPA,
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: EPA per attempt, pass, overall run, all this type of stuff.
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: Like they were a really really good offense last year.
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: But I think a way that they can improve is, yeah,
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: just a little more schemantic creativity, putting defenses into a
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: bind a little bit more in terms of the run
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: in the pass and making and play situational because of
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: the body types and skill sets you have at wide
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: receiver and tight end and running back, and how you
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: can kind of access more of the play calling menu
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: and sequencing without having to turn the page. And then
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: within that, I want to see more duo play action.
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: I don't think I've mentioned that on the show before,
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: but I want more of that. I remember when they,
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: you know, so in ideal world, your play action concepts
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: mirror the main run concepts that you use. And I
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: think it wasn't until the Steelers game last year, which
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: was late in the year, then I finally saw a
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: play action off of a duo type look. So more
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: more duo play action because the Bills run a ton
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: of duo. We run a ton of midzone week and
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: the Bills run a ton of duo. Cool, so you've
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: already got some play action off the midzone week type stuff.
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: Let's get some play action off duo straight drop back
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: from under center, making it look like duo and it's
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: actually a pass. And I think the tight ends obviously
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: tie into that. Receivers tie into that. I think the
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: Bills can for a team that has been having to
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: having you know, a lot of Josh Allen's past yards
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: each year has been increased by yards after catch, and
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: his average depth of target has continued to go down.
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: You know, his air yard throws to the sticks have
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: gone down, and they've struggled with some verticality in the offense.
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: Having DJ more helps because he's got speed. Maybe Skylar
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: Bell helps. I think DJ Morrils stretched the defense vertically
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: and horizontally. But I also think you can manufacture some
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: shot plays and lean into more of Hey look at
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: this personnel. Hey, look at this running this run game
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: that we got. Uh oh you're scared of it. Oh
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: you're not. Okay, cool, We'll just keep running the ball
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: down your throat for five to fifteen yards a clip,
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: but then leaning into it when you can to use
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: that play action game and those heavy personnel groups to
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: create your shot plays, and I guess some kind of
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: manufacture more of them, like we've seen in years past
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: in different eras of football a little bit. But yeah,
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: I think Hawes his new end or different role this
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: year is more you know, some fullback stuff, but I
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: think also more pass catching opportunities, especially if Dalton can
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: Kate can't stay healthy, which unfortunately kind of seems like
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: a thing. Honorable mention. I didn't create a label for him,
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: but Honorable mentioned I already talked about this a bunch.
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: I didn't want to get into one, but I think
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: cold Bishop kind of falls into this. Just I think
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: we're going to see more Cole Bishop in and around
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: the box like he was at Utah. I think Cold
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: Bishop is still at his best in and around the box.
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: I'm going to continue to say this until my voice
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: runs out. He's improved the deeper you know, He's improved
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: with this deeper play. He's improved the further he gets
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: from the line of scrimmage. But he is still at
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: his best in and around the box as a down safety,
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: as an apex player, as a big nickel, as a
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: monster man. However you want to label him, put him
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: into the box, let him blitz, let him cover tight
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: ends and running backs. Let him cover in the hook
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: curls and the curd of flats. That's where I want
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: him playing. I want him using that size in the
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: athleticism in and around the line of scrimmage as much
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: as possible. Let Chauncey play deep. Let Chauncey play the
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: single high post safety. Chauncey is also an absolute menace
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: in and around the box. He's physical as hell and
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: a great blitzer. So obviously you can flip them and
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: do different stuff. They can play too high together. They can,
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: you know, each play single high. But I would rather
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: lean into Cold Bishop in and around the box. And
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: Chauncey deeper. Obviously you're not just gonna silo them completely,
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: but I think that versatility will be fun and I
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: think we will see more of I want to see
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: the easiest way to say, I want to see more
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: Utah Cold Bishop than Buffalo Bill's Cold Bishop, and Utah
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: Cold Bishop was down safety apex player Robber playing top down,
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: in and around the box, in and around the line
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: of scrimmage, in between the numbers. That's where I want
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: Cold Bishop playing. I want more Utah Cold Bishop, and
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: I think you're gonna get that more. In Jim Letter
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: to the Gym Letters, Stephen's easiest comp like, you know,
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: he's gonna be more you know, hufanga type stuff playing
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: top down, you know if they're showing too high and
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: then they're spinning to cover three on the snap. I
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: want Kolebis should be that down safety, coming downhill and
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: going from there. Roy says, maybe Shaker should be on
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: this list, not as many screens and more use downfield.
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: Maybe I just want to see it before I think it. Like,
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: the things that I'm presenting in this episode are things
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: that I either believe or expect to happen. Shakir is
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: tough because you know, Joe Brady's saying like, oh, you know,
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: we should have used Khalis Shakir more, you know, outside
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: and downfield, and it's like, okay, but you were the
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: whole play caller, so why didn't you? It just seemed weird.
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: It just seemed like it seemed like Joe Brady was
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: mentioning that because they were hearing the chatter and he
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: just wanted to make a comment, but it it did
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: didn't hold water, like you're the guy who controlled what
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: Khalis Shakir did, so why didn't you use him that way?
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: Like again, I guess you can kind of recognize the
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: air of your ways in the off season when you
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: self scout and all that. But until I see it change,
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: I'm not expecting it to. And even a bunch of
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: the screens for Shakir, some of them, to Brady's credit,
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: weren't necessarily like true screens. A lot of them are
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: kind of essentially like runs with pass tags or sometimes ourpos,
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: but it's more runs with pass tags where they get
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: to the line of scrimmage, well, they get in the
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: huddle and it's like a packaged play where they have
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: a run call. But then Allen has a check built
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: in where based on usually it's based on whatever the
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: box count is or leverage or spacing, where Alan can
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: essentially take that run play and instead he can spit
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: it out Shakir or spit it out to Kincaid. So
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: it's a run play and Shakiro is gonna run that
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: bubble no matter what, but that pass is gonna happen
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: based on what Alan is seeing. So a lot of those,
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: you know, screens and those RPO bubbles as kind of
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: people label them as well, a lot of those are
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: package plays or run plays with pass tags where Alan
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: is getting to the and he is deciding whether or
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: not they're going to run the football and stay with
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: that or if he's going to spit it out Shakir
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: or kin Kate. But still that that's still that design
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: or ideas still on Brady. I think it was more
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: successful than it got credit for. It definitely happened more
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: than it should have and was frustrating a lot of
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: times where we're like, oh, here comes another like little
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: you don't run with a pass tag or everybody was
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: calling it a screen. But yeah, that and Mesh, you know,
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: obviously happened a ton, But but yeah, I do think
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: Shakiro could potentially be on this list. I just want
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: to see it because because again, if you wanted to
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: do it, you could have done it last year, and
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: you needed to do it last year. You know, if
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: you think Shakira can win downfield and be more than
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: what he was last year, I feel like last year
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: would have been a great, great time to try it,
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: considering you had no wide receivers and you had to
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: bring Brandon Cooks off the street to help you at receiver,
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: and then Brandon Cooks ended up being your best receiver.
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: So I don't know. Yeah, there there's I don't know
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: how much fire there is to that different secure usage Smoke,
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: which I'm also flying with because he's really good at
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: what he does and I understand get the bottom quick,
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: let him be run after the catch type guy, because
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: he's like a running back when he gets the ball
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: in his hands. But yeah, it's tough for that one.
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: There's some other candidates as well, but though those are
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: the main ones for me, those hard top four, Yeah
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: are saying no not Mesh, and Roy saying I think
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: we need more Mesh. I don't want to talk about much. Yeah,
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: those are the top four for me. I think there's
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: some other candidates. Cold Bishop was the closest honorable mention
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: for me. There's some other ones as well, and I
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: know I mixed in a couple of things overall, you
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: know some other players within that. But yeah, it'll be
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: fun and we'll continue to have these type of conversations
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: as we go forward. Speaking of go forward, if you
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: are going forward in your life and you are not
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: getting yourself some one pie piece, or you're doing yourself
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: a disservice. If you live in Buffalo, if you travel
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: to Buffalo, you should be getting yourself in one pie pizza.
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: And why because it's the best pizza in Buffalo, New York.
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: And I do not say that because they sponsor the show.
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: They sponsor the show because I sincerely believe they are
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: the best pizza in Buffalo, New York. Delicious sweet sauce pie,
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: homemade red sauce, homemade blue cheese is absolutely phenomenal, a
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: great cheese, the sauce ratio, they could do your pizza
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: well done, they could do it a little softer. Cup
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: and charred pepperoni, a variety of different toppings and specialty pizzas.
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: All the ingredients are sprinkled evenly across the pie. They
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: even make good salads if salads are your type of deal.
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: They also have a catering division called Elevated Catering a Buffalo.
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: I've had them do multiple events for me over the years.
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: I always get pizzas when I do it, but they
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: got great mac and cheeses, chicken and rice dishes. Again,
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: the salads. I'm not a salad person, but I eat
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: their salads like that. If you ever want to know
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: how good someone's salad is, if I eat it, that
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: means it's good. Because I hate salad, I think it's
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: a waste of time. But their salves are good. Everything
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: they make is good. And as I always say, like
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: it's not an official tagline for them, but I always say,
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: they're really good people making really good food. They're really
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: good food is self explanatory, but they're really good people.
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: They just do a lot of stuff for the community,
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: Toys for Tots partnering with Roswell and Knockout Cancer, partner
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: with the Alzheimer's Foundation, the SPCA. They just get back
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: in a multitude of ways. They're very forward thinking for
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: the city and the community. They do a great job
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: making great food, but then also you know, again providing
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: a lot of good will to the community and the
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: city of Buffalo. So if you live here, get yourself
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: in one pie. If you're visiting, get yourself some one pie.
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: Do not be like Joe DeRosa and come here and
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: not get one pie pizza. That's what Nick is referencing
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: here when he says GTA six is coming out. Before
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: Joe tries one pie, Joe says, I will get a pie.
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: We'll see. He already stabbed me in the back once
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: by not getting it. He says he tried to get it,
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: but they were sold out, which will happen because that's
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: how good the pizza is. They will run out of
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: pies at times. But you know, Joe, Joe sat there
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: and chose to be a liar and a deceiver and
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: a betrayer and not get one pie, and that treachery
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: will not be forgotten that, you know. I see Joe's
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: trying to make jokes in the chat right now, and
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: you know, I just think, to joke about treachery and
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: betrayal is just I don't even know if there's words
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: for it. You know, it's hard to sit in this
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: chair and do this episode with the knife that's in
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: my back because I can't fully lean back and it
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: just drives it in there further. But you know, to
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: each their own, to teach their own right. As I
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: see the tree survive the fourth of July, it did
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: I still have it in fourth of July colors. I
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: might just leave the tree decorated like that because I
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: think it looks good and then or if anybody has
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: any holidays or anything that exists in August, and I
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: could do colors for August, but I also feel like
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: football starts in August with the preseasons, I might as
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: well just leave it for Bill's colors. I'm torn. Joe's
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: continuing to lean into jokes into the chat says that
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: with the bee on your hat stands for betrayal. Oh,
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: good comment from Roy Royce's Joe eats wings with ranch?
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: What do you expect? That seems that tracks I also,
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: from what I do know, Joe also eats his pizza
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: with a fork and a knife, is what I've heard.
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: The streets is talking and they say to Joe eats
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: wings with ranch, and that he eats his pizza with
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: a fork and a knife. I also heard that Joe
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: has multiple two in Tagabyo Loa Jerseys, which is also
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: what the streets are saying. But you know, again, teachter On,
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: I'm not here to you know, spread rumors or make
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: stuff up. But you know, streets is talking and that's
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: what they're saying. I hope you folks enjoyed this episode.
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: I saw some positive comments coming through for myself towards
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: the end. I appreciate you folks for that. I always say,
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: I think it's corny to be by myself and then
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: pull up positive comments for myself like that I did
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: in the beginning with the mean of kind stuff, because
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: I always just roll through all the comments in the beginning.
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: But at the end here I think it's corny to
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: be like, oh, look at what all these people said
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: about me. But I see the nice comments and the
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: kind words, and I greatly appreciate them. I hope everybody
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: had a good time in this episode. I hope you
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: folks always enjoy the content. I hoe, oh, I can't anymore, Shoe.
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: I hope you folks enjoyed this episode. If you did

- 1:32:27Speaker 1: to bring it up because I think it's corny, but
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: I did see, I do see the comments. I appreciate
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: them very much, and in general, like you know, whether
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: you're somebody who watches this episode live or like I
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: mentioned in the beginning, follow me on any of the socials,
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: or just listen regularly, watch regularly, whatever form or fashion
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: your episode consumption or support comes in. I'm very thankful
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: for it, especially again not to drill too much down
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: on the Mena Kimes thing, but it was super cool
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: to be able to do that and then see the
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: support from everyone and the fashions that it came in.
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: It was it was just it was just really cool
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: and very much appreciated by it. So yeah, I'm very
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: thankful for everybody. Everybody, whether you watch Live, watch Later again,
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: any whatever, former fashion, your episode consumption comes in and
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: your support comes in, it means a lot. It means
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: more than you know. I'm really thankful for it and
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: appreciative of it. And yeah, enjoy the rest of your
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: Tuesday night. Hope you folks enjoyed this episode. We are
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: back in the swing of things now. My schedule has
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: been crazy, and every time I say that, I jinx
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: it and then things kind of like I'm like, oh, okay,
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: things are settling down, and then everything explodes again. We're
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: back in the saddle. I will be here live again
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: next Tuesday, nine pm Eastern, and then I'll be back
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: the following Tuesday, nine pm Eastern, and then I'm thinking
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: of also again doing shows on those training camp days
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: that I'm going to we'll see what's up. R J.
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: That's a super cool comment. And you say, my buddy
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: saw your face on the TV and applebe's that's awesome.
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: That's super cool. That's cool. Thank you for that. I
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: appreciate that. Joe. Don't try to get into the good
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: graces now. Now you're gonna try and give like a
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: nice comment at the end, Joe, after you're making jokes
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: about betrayal, you know, just hmmm, no, that's a comment
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: from Walter says, shout out to the tree from making
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: ant who he is today. I go nowhere without the tree. Actually,
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: you know what, I'm surprised about all all jokes aside.
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: I am surprised that nobody called out the tree, like
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: like people who had never seen me before. I am
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: surprised no one called the tree out in the YouTube
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: comments to Mina or in any of like the social post.
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: I just thought of that right now. I am surprised.
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: People were like, what's up with this dude in this tree?
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: Why does he have a tree? Nobody said that. I
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: am surprised. I just realized that. Huh. I yeah, I
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: Some people didn't like that I was wearing a hat.
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: Some people didn't like the hat. Some people don't like
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: that I leave the labels on my hat, so I
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: got that a couple of times. But yeah, the tree
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: was also on National TV. I just realized that. I yeah,
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: I kind of would have expected some at least one
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: or a couple people to be like, why does this
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: dude have a tree? Who's this dude? And why does
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: he have a Christmas tree in the back? But nobody
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: said that interesting. I thank you everything to my attention,
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: not directly, but kind of make me think about that.
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: I appreciate with that, Walter, all right, enjoy the rest
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: of your Yeah, it is time to leave you a
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: comment about the tree. Now. Thank you for everybody who
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: again tuned in live. I know when in the slow
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: time of the off season, but it's nice to have
