- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30Today I have a quote from Edgar Allan Poe that I love because it
- 0:36kind of fits me in a very interesting way.
- 0:39Hence a podcast in a chicken coop.
- 0:42He said there is no beauty without some strangeness.
- 0:46Boy, is that not true. I can't even tell you how happy
- 0:51that makes me because I was never the normal kid.
- 0:55I was the strange kid. I did not fit in well.
- 0:59I had weird curiosities of science fiction and loved to
- 1:04obsessively read and always wanted to be doing art and
- 1:08making things and projects and I didn't care what my hands were
- 1:11doing. It was just, if I, if I could
- 1:13get into a project, it would make me happy.
- 1:16And that did not fit in with the people I was surrounded by.
- 1:22Not my family, but my, the, the kids I went to school with and
- 1:26the majority of them. I was just different.
- 1:30And obviously I shoot a podcast in a chicken coop.
- 1:34My love of animals in the way that I do, that's not normal for
- 1:38most girls. They like animals, but they
- 1:40don't want to, you know, raise chickens and have farms and love
- 1:44to obsess on learning about vegetables and want to grow when
- 1:47you're 10121415 years old. It was a very interesting time
- 1:53in my life and I had I, I remember I had a boyfriend in
- 1:58high school and I would, his father was always into woodwork
- 2:02and I would go to their house and I wouldn't hang out with my
- 2:07boyfriend and his friends. I would go sit on the stairs to
- 2:10the basement and talk to his dad while his dad was woodworking.
- 2:15And I used to like, love to watch how he was doing it.
- 2:20And he was fascinated that I would rather be there watching
- 2:24him than hanging out with the guys who had just been playing
- 2:28video games. And I, I can't explain it, but I
- 2:33can tell you that I knew I was different, but it always wasn't
- 2:38a good thing because it at least to me then it wasn't a good
- 2:41thing because I couldn't be happy if I was just trying to
- 2:46force myself to fit in. And because I was denying my
- 2:50nature, my true nature. And my true nature is to be
- 2:53different. And I'm OK with that now, but it
- 2:56took years of practice with that.
- 2:58And this is one of those quotes that really gave me a huge
- 3:02amount of peace and faith in that, the fact that I am strange
- 3:08and I'm OK with that. I can be different and I'm OK
- 3:11with that. I do things very differently and
- 3:15I'm OK with that. And that's what I want you guys
- 3:17to hear today, is that being different, being strange, being
- 3:21peculiar is not a curse to you. If you feel that way about
- 3:26yourself, it's a gift. It means you have not been
- 3:28cultivated into the the set of drones that are out there doing
- 3:33the same thing, looking like everybody else, doing the same
- 3:36things. If it makes you happy and it
- 3:39truly is you, great. That is what the point is.
- 3:42But if you are strange, peculiar, different, odd, that's
- 3:46OK. It is more than OK because
- 3:49you're not meant to fit in. We're not all meant to be the
- 3:52same. And when we recognize we're not
- 3:54all meant to be the same, all of a sudden there is a very
- 3:57different power in US. And it's a it's the power of
- 4:00peace. We accept ourselves, we feel
- 4:03good about ourselves, and we are able to actually navigate life
- 4:07better when we recognize that about ourselves.
- 4:10So today the thought on this is embracing your peculiar self,
- 4:16embracing the things that about you.
- 4:18You know, if you don't like to go and hang out there, there are
- 4:21certain things. I mean, I don't, I do not like
- 4:24to go hang out with large groups of people and drink alcohol and
- 4:29complain about things. You will never see me do that in
- 4:32a million years. I don't enjoy it.
- 4:33I haven't forever. It just, it just doesn't, it
- 4:37doesn't click for me. So when people invite me to go
- 4:39out, I'm always extremely cautious about where that is
- 4:43what we're doing. It just doesn't work for me.
- 4:45I don't want to put energy into it and it's OK.
- 4:50It's OK if you find that you are more interested in doing your
- 4:55introverted activities and those make you truly happy, then so be
- 5:00it. That's who you are and it's OK.
- 5:02That's the work your soul is doing right now and you embrace
- 5:05it. You start to fulfill the work of
- 5:08your soul and that feels really good my friends, it feels really
- 5:11good. So hug yourself, give yourself a
- 5:14little bit of love on this and remember there is no beauty
- 5:17without some strangeness and we add that beauty to the world
- 5:21with our strangeness. OK my friends, I hope you have a
- 5:24blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 5:26Bye.
